Sleep-Deprived Sarcasm
Ghost is an asshole.
Everyone knows this, everyone thinks this.
Ghost is an asshole in ways that many don't really stop to appreciate. Because he may be an asshole, but he's not mean in a way that actually hurts anyone.
He'll casually call someone a dumbass if they did something stupid. He'll find solace in smacking a particularly close teammate over the head after a dumb stunt (Soap) or berating them until their ears are ringing for saying something stupid in front of a superior officer or someone interrogating them (Gaz).
He's an asshole, but he's loving about it in ways those who aren't close to him don't see.
Can't see.
It's a privilege to be able to hear when Ghost is sarcastic. People will hear stories around the base of him being incredibly sarcastic to Soap or Captain Price.
Soap brags about being able to get him to ask the invisible audience what he's won when Soap himself says something particularly dumb in front of him.
Price once told a funny story that no one actually believes where Ghost, high on the exhaustion of a mission gone sour and 4 days of minimal sleep, asks where he should house the high horse a particularly nasty unnamed superior rode in on during a debrief.
Everyone knows Ghost is an asshole. No one except the 141 sees when that asshole tendency turns soft and pointed and trusting. No one but them knows how deeply gratifying it is to see him dropping his guard and actually saying something disrespectful in front of them, showing a little bit of his Simon Riley attitude and personality rather than the forced blankness that "Ghost" is supposed to personify.
The first time Gaz saw him drop his guard, he cried.
According to Soap anyway.
It had been a time when everyone was getting eyed for their actions, after a stressful but successful mission, by their superiors.
Ghost had obviously had enough of the people breathing down their necks and sending them on pointless missions to "see if [taskforce 141] are good enough to keep on." The entire taskforce was put into question and none of them had gotten a good night's sleep in about a week between all of the debriefs, training, missions, and pointless lectures about being "the face of the military" (bullshit if you ask any one of them, especially the one in the mask) and it was getting on their nerves.
Ghost wasn't one to show his anger much when he was meant to be Ghost unless he deemed that it benefitted them, made the enemies or even allies nervous, and made them listen.
So seeing him overly sarcastic and willing to be directly disrespectful? It's a rite of passage.
It happened in the kitchen at 0300.
Gaz and Soap are shooting the shit getting some coffee to wind down and talking about how horrible the breath of their "borrowed" commander is when Ghost walks in wearing civvies and his usual hard skull balaclava.
"You look tired, Ghost" Gaz decides to comment, seeing the slouch in the taller man's shoulders that he wouldn't normally be able to see.
In the heaviest "no shit" voice he seems to be able to muster, Ghost looks him dead in the eye, holds a pretend microphone to Soap and says "He got the right answer, give the man a prize! What did he win Johnny Boy?"
Between one blink and the next, Soap making a choking noise like a dying cat and proceeding to double over forwards to laugh into his knees, and Gaz staring at Ghost like he had lost his mind, Ghost grabs a mug and starts making tea with more sugar than necessary.
When he walks out, taking the tea with him and cursing the universe for "dumbass shithead commanders," Gaz has to sit down as Soap tries to catch his breath, finally able to control himself now that Ghost isn't there looking like a puppy just woken up from a particularly hard nap despite none of them having gotten sleep in the past 24 hours.
It started happening more frequently from there.
Gaz would say something obvious on particularly hard days, days where they were all exhausted and wanted nothing more than to collapse into bed and sleep but couldn't because of various dealings with higher-ups or responsibilities, and Ghost would hand either Soap or Price a microphone and be sarcastic.
He tries saying the dumbest things he can to start longer speeches, something he was told to do by Soap after finding out that the more sarcastic he gets, the more he rants about the topic. They eventually start timing the rants when he gets into it.
The winner so far is a minute and a half to Soap for getting him to rant about fall and leaves. They don't remember how that started.
In one memorable instance, Price says something stupid. Ghost, being half asleep at the table while they all wait for some superiors to get there for a meeting, hands Gaz the microphone and sasses Price so hard Soap is choking on breath until the first superior enters 10 minutes later.

Is your love as unrequited as you think? Or does the team hide more than you think?
Maybe you’re just a lower rank soldier or just lack the confidence,, but you don’t believe that a love with the main characters of the task force would be possible, even in your daydreams as a hopeless romantic.
Johnny’s achievements are nothing to be humble about, being the youngest candidate to pass the selections process and being deemed a demolitions expert are ever praiseworthy. His cheeky demeanour makes even the quietest soldiers crack a smile, and lights up the base unlike any other. Maybe that’s why you code him as Sunshine in your journals,, scrawling affirmations of adoration between the margins. Coded lines of love decorated your many notebooks, all sealed within the depths of your cabinet to never see the light of day. Of course, you’d know it’s too selfish of you to ever confess, since there is no possible chance. Maybe you would change your mind if you ever caught a glance of how Soap casts his first look at you to see if you laughed at one of his corny jokes. Definitely making notes on what kind of jokes make you smile the brightest, obviously.
Although understated, Gaz is obviously brawns and beauty. Like, was it really necessary for him to have the prettiest eyes you’ve ever seen? You can barely focus, line of sight often slipping down to his lips before moving them back up just to feign ignorance. You saw him as an aspiration at first, viewing his top place on the SAS selection rankings to be a goal to achieve. It wasn’t long for that awe to morph into something more affectionate. Dangerous territory, too dangerous that you decide to bury yourself in your training. Trying to snap yourself out of that lovesick daze, you push yourself to your own limits in the process. Using that pain to distract yourself, you definitely don’t notice Gaz’s worried gaze when you head towards the training grounds once again, his concern evident when he realises your hands are still bruised from the previous day. He’ll have to sneak some ointment into your gym bag again, somehow.
Ghost, who doesn’t know him? The stoic Lieutenant in the task force, prime of his trade in ambush and stealth. It’s tough to even get familiar with him, let alone be in a relationship with the lieutenant. Respecting his quiet demeanour, you have always kept your distance as a form of respect; never pushing more than what you know he can handle. A secret is that you always keep his tea bags in stock, replenishing when stocks go low. Simon hides a secret of his own; sometimes gripping the standard military knife you normally practise with to gauge your hand size,, just for an accurate daydream of how your hands would fit in his own. Would your fingers lace with his just as well as he imagines? Don’t tell anyone, but Simon has been staring at you long enough for Soap to notice, who knew Ghost could be so distracted?
Honestly, Price is the one you have to be the most cautious about. Out of everyone in the force, he is the most observant thanks to his expertise in the military field. Rugged and charming, it is not hard at all for Price to get your attention. His gravely chuckle lights a fire in your stomach, you desperately wishing to be the cause of it someday. Yet, a love between a Captain and his subordinate remains unfeasible on all sorts of levels, especially one as devoted to his job as John Price. Even if your love is impossible, you always try to make his life easier; doing paperwork with both speed and detail. Often, his heart softens when he sees a light peeking from under the door of your office, hoping for an opportunity to get to know the angel who files their reports perfectly. No matter how much he shouldn’t, he sincerely hopes to find a chance to make himself a stable placement in your life soon enough.

Episode 30 (Operation Annihilate) WE MADE IT! Though I had a bit of difficulty with this post because they fucking deleted my draft and then brought it back. For no goddamn reason.
Here we go:
- Kirk is staring straight into the sun
- As always kids when avoiding things in space, go to the left
- JIM HAS A BROTHER???!???
- Yelling at Uhura will get you a punch at most Jim. If she can’t do something about the comms then no one can
- It looks like a college building. Imagine going to college and you see the landing party just appear like that
- “They tried to brain us with these clubs. Brain you?? Yeah, Jim?
- Spock and McCoy being there for Jim after his brothers death
- Aurelan’s fucking SCREAM (props to that actress)
- WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT FUCKIN THING
youtube
- IT FUCKING BIT SPOCK. Kirk is losing everyone today...
- McCoy looks so concerned for Spock while operating on him
- As soon as Spock gets on the bridge he pushes McCoy lol
- “These restraints will no longer be necessary. Neither will your sedatives, doctor.” Spock says this with the most pain in his voice, McCoy just crosses his arms and gives him a look like 'nuhuh'
- “I am a Vulcan… There is no pain.” No gain but seriously I can hear it in your voice- damn there goes the restraints
- BADASS SCOTTY MOMENT YEAH
- Bones is fucking furious. He wants to help Spock but the only way he can do anything for him is to have him rest in sickbay
- As soon as Spock is within arms reach of Bones again, he’s scanning him

- gentlemen.. what is this
- “I understand your concern. Your affection for Spock.” Why don’t you just call him out then, Bones. Takes one to know one.
- The fact that Kirk found the answer and that it was fucking light. If I were McCoy or Spock I’d be pissed off
- Continuing on that… what is this???

- “Do you know what one million candlelight square inch can do to your optic nerves?” He asks this like ‘are you stupid?’ But it’s full of care cause he thinks it stupid that Spock is going to sacrifice himself
- Bones is so so worried I can’t I can’t what
- Everything Bones does to try and get Spock out of it is that he gives Spock the chance to get out himself, tries to give him goggles, makes a frowny face the whole time, says that Spock is the best first officer (he shouldn’t be put in danger), he bargains with Jim a bit, and he still has to do this :(((
- aheem

- “Uh Oh.” WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN UH OH, MCCOY
- Don’t be mad at Bones you bitch, that decision was just as much yours as it was his. I swear to god they all fucked up but holy crap he’s feeling terrible already
- They’re gooping. (edit: I don't know what this means anymore)
- “Bones, it wasn’t your fault. Bones. Bones.” Kirk comforting McCoy. It’s so tense and it breaks my heart. They won’t be truly fine until Spock is fine.
- “We tend to ignore it as you ignore your own appendix.” Good line and I'm glad Spock is okay now but also that's so so convenient
- And now: The last couple minutes of conversation between Kirk, Spock, and McCoy that had me squealing and giggling
Kirk walks over: Mr Spock, regaining eyesight would be an emotional experience for most. You, I presume, felt nothing.
Spock: Quite the contrary, Captain. I had a very strong reaction. My first sight was the face of Doctor McCoy bending over me.
McCoy: Hmm, ‘tis a pity brief blindness did not increase your appreciation for beauty, Mr Spock.
Kirk (as if he didn’t start this): If you gentlemen are finished, would you mind laying in a course for Starbase 10, Mr Spock?
Spock: My pleasure, Captain.
McCoy while leaning against Kirk’s chair: Unusual eye arrangement. I might have known he’d turn up with something like that.
Kirk: What’s that, Doctor?
McCoy: I said, please don’t tell Spock that I said he was the best first officer in the fleet.
Spock turns around dramatically: Why, thank you, Dr. McCoy. (Spock gives him the raised eyebrows)
This episode is so…

Heal the Scars 4/?
The island names are, again, from fantasynamegenerator.com. And I honestly don’t know how the tasks on a ship are spread. One Piece Wiki only tells that the second officer has to ensure orders are fulfilled. And don’t ask me how a Navy crew works. I Just follow what television taught us: No one does a shit or uses his brain until told otherwise. And for Copyright purposes: “Alrighty Crew! Let’s go!” Is the beginning of “Cowboys of the Sea” by Rumahoy. Recommended if you want to laugh.
Elizabeth just picked her second cup of black tea. The first was necessary, to do her hairdo without stabbing herself with her hair pins. She braided her shoulder length strawberry blonde hair and then wrapped it around the beginning of the braid and pinned it there. The second tea was necessary to follow a conversation. She wasn’t a early riser. If she could choose, she would relax in her bed until late morning and then have a very extensive breakfast. The more decadent the better. But this luxury wasn’t granted to her. So caffein had to make her socially acceptable.
Armed with her cup she entered the command bridge. When Drake said he “will expect” her, that wasn’t just a set phrase. Despite her not being a morning person she was five minutes early, but he already stood bent over some maps
“Good morning, Captain Drake” she saluted.
“Good morning, Master Chief Petty Officer Elizabeth” he nodded in greeting.
“What do I have to know about this Snail Patrol? I couldn’t find anything in my predecessor’s documents” She stepped closer to him, took a sip of her tea and placed the cup as far away from the maps as possible. Because of this she couldn’t see his grimace at her second phrase.
“They only assault passenger and trade vessels. We’ve tailed them for weeks but couldn’t catch up to them. Their ship is faster than ours, so we have to intercept them”
“Oh, so the detour to pick me up increased the distance even more?”
“No, actually not. The name Patrol is very fitting, because they patrol between these islands” he pointed towards the for maps in front of them “As long as they don’t leave this area a few days more or less won’t make a difference “
“So we can just sail towards them?”
„If it would be that easy I caught them long ago. They vary their routes constantly. I assume they have eternal poses of the islands.” X Drake straightened “We don’t know much about their combat effectiveness, since they always only attack unarmed civilians. They flee from other pirates as much as from us. SO we assume they are not that strong, but very fast. We had no personal encounter yet.”
Elizabeth got her cup again “So their is nothing more to do than shuttle between the island until we find them?”
He sighted „Unfortunately, yes. But at least we caught some other pirate crews, a small compensation for the time spent here. But still very frustrating.”
“The Victims” she started carefully “What exactly does Snail Patrol do to them?”
“They board the ship, threaten the crew and demand all valuables. Hence the majority of them are unarmed there is rarely a fight. Most civilians surrender their belongings, when staring down a barrel and a knife on the throat loosens most purses. The Victims are manageable. There have been a few injured, but no dead. But The navy can’t ignore this behavior.”
“Hm, they’re fast and avoid confrontation…” she put her now empty tea down “Captain, Sir, you’re tailing them for quite a while now. What is your gut telling you? Do you think they use surprise attacks on easy prey because they are bad fighters or do you think they just don’t want to waist time and effort on stronger opponents with less profit?”
He looked her over thoughtful “I feel tempted to pick the first option. They managed to long on the Grandline for that. Their ship may be very fast, but that alone can’t be enough. According to the witnesses the vessel isn’t strongly armed but we should remain careful. TheY’re not dumb and we don’t know anything about their combat fighting power.”
“So everything could be possible?”
“Yes. But at first we have to get to them”
“Can’t we just wait for them on one of the islands?”
He sighed “That’s what we tried before we picked you up. Either they have informants warning them or were just very unlucky. But for two weeks we waited at Thunder Island we couldn’t catch a glimpse of them.”
“Thunder Island, how suitable is that name?”
“A lot. SO It did wonders for the crews morale to go to Albatross. Two weeks of thunderstorms ruin most moods. A free evening on a summer island helps a lot.” Her new superior threw a glance her way “If you don’t have any other questions, I have to give the order to set sail.”
“No, not right now” She watched him turning to leave “Oh, there is one more thing”
He stopped and turned towards her.
She smiled a bit sheepish “What do I do now? DO I help the Crew or…?” ‘…do I go and get a extended breakfast?’ She added mentally.
“Actually… You can do that.” He retrieved something from his pocked and tossed it to her. “We’re heading towards Thunder Island, but only to see if Snail Patrol has been there in our absence. Then we’ll see.”
Elizabeths gaze wandered to the Eternal Pose in her hand and then to him “I am to supervise the sailing and our course?” She asked surprised.
“Is this a problem to you?” He lifted an eyebrow and crossed his arms.
“No. No! I’m on my way, Sir!” She answered maybe a little bit to fast to cover her nerves. She started to salute but lowered her arm at the last moment, and placed the Eternal Pose in her other hand. Without the risk to hit that in her face she saluted abashed and fled from the commanding bridge.
———————————————————————————————————————————
On deck was moderate bustle. A lot, considering the dusky sky. But little, considering they were supposed to set sail at day break. And the day did break. Elizabeth stood a bit insecure on the main deck.
She took three deep breaths, put her hands on her hips and raised her voice “Alrighty, Crew, let’s go! * Raise the anchor and set sail, otherwise we won’t get away.”
The result was… humbling. No one really payed attention to her. It would have been even more unpleasant, if she had known she was being watched. Drake left the commanding bridge as well and stood hidden in the dim light leaning against a wall.
“Hello? This is where it’s at!” She called and pouted. Still no reaction. She put thumb and index finger in her mouth and whistled sharp. This got her some short annoyed glanced, but that was all. She knew, she didn’t look very authoritarian, with her pretty blouse and cute hairdo. And as a women in her middle twenties especially older comrades didn’t take her always seriously. The fact that she hadn’t been properly introduced yet was not helping either. Maybe just an oversight by the Captain, but she would beware of asking that right away.
“You!” She grabbed a passing soldier at his collar “Go and use the foghorn! Chop chop!”
With a grin she climbed on top of the command bridge’s roof. Her older sister recommended that practice in wise foresight.
At the sound of the Foghorn the soldier turned startled to the source of noise. The crew of the other vessels and her former comrades at the base wouldn’t appreciate this method, but that was no longer her business. Because this time, she had the crew’s undivided attention.
“A WONDERFUL MORNING TO YOU!” She yelled “Now that I got your attention: My name is Elizabeth Newman, I am Master Chief Petty Officer and as from now captain Diez Drakes right hand man” borrowing little authority couldn’t hurt “I am certain we will have enough opportunity to get to know each other and actually I am quite looking forward to our time together. As far as I am informed, it was known since at least, yesterday, we will set sail at dawn. But if I take a look, I see the sun rising, but the ship is still tied to the harbor. Anchors aweigh, hoist the sails and cast off towards Thunder Island!”
Self-satisfied she watched the crew set to work. As she climbed back down to the main deck she realized she had to figure out how to explain the early noise nuisance to the Captain.

DoF:RefTE chapter six - Reinforcements
Dreams of Freedom: Reforging the Edge
Chapter six: Reinforcements | (AO3 link)
A centaur falls to the rain-soaked ground, and Logan moves to the next. This centaur holds its blade defensively and blocks Logan’s first blow. They stand, swords locked, staring at each other for a moment through the rain. Logan’s magic had been slowly regenerating, but he’d been fighting without it for a while and he is exhausted. He can’t spare much energy at this point. He isn’t a warrior - his adrenal glands can’t take too much magical overstimulation. Stop thinking negatively.
Logan spins and ducks to the left, under the centaur’s sword. He dodges away from the centaur to bring his own sword free. The centaur turns to face him.
Another Seraph soldier flanks from the right and sinks a blade into the centaur’s side. He pauses, breathing heavily.
Logan capitalizes on the centaur’s distraction. He leaps forward, thrusting his sword into the centaur’s chest. It falls.
The soldier gives him a weary salute and lifts his eyes reluctantly to the next foe. Logan turns with him to face the next threat together.
But another centaur comes from the right. The Seraph soldier turns too slow and takes a heavy blow to his sword-arm. Logan jumps in front of him and catches the centaur’s next swing on his own sword and twists it out of the enemy’s grip. He sinks his blade into the centaur’s chest.
His men are exhausted. Logan had trained extensively in energy manipulation, but his men don’t all have the same luxury.
Already another centaur is approaching the man. Logan can tell that the soldier doesn’t have it in him to keep going, even if he’d had a functional sword-arm. “Get to the back and find a healer!” Logan tells him, pushing past to engage the centaur.
Logan should be able to heal him. That is one of his men, a loyal soldier and a brave one, on the front lines in this battle. But he has to save his magic, and the man isn’t dying yet. Cradling his arm, the soldier sprints back toward the northern gate, where the healers work as far from the battle as possible.
That’s another soldier out of commission. Logan fights on. A thudding boom comes from behind them. The northern gate had closed.
“Captain,” Lieutenant Francis calls, and Logan gladly disengages with the fight to hear his report. It's a risky business, stopping to rest, but a necessary one. Logan heads over to him.
“Lieutenant Hines arrived with a few extra men from HQ - she’s taken over the fight at the north gate. Centaurs from Shaemoor won’t be able to slip past her group with the gate closed - she wants you to know you can focus on the south gate.”
Logan appreciates it; he does need the space. Good woman, Logan thinks. What Francis had left unspoken hovers in the air between them. The gates of the garrison don’t open from the outside - Hines and her men are stuck outside unless someone inside opens them. “We all fight for Kryta,” Logan says solemnly.
Francis straightens and thumps his fist to his chest in a salute. Logan returns it. The two of them stay at attention for a long moment in honor of those Seraph who risk their lives.
Logan sighs. “Did Hines bring any update from the office?”
“Just that Lieutenant Groban is having difficulty gathering Seraph from the city to send to our aid. Not many are out at this time of night, and there’s red tape - regulations the Ministry pushed through ages ago about off-duty public servants and not making people work overtime. Flimsy excuse, of course, but Minister Beetlestone is insisting that troops need to be kept in the city in case you, ah, fail. For the protection of the queen."
Logan stares. "By all Six Gods! Balthazar curse him! Dwayna have sweet mercy! Grenth by just to his soul when I get done with him! What!"
Francis coughs. "Groban has apparently been going head-to-head with Minister Beetlestone himself for the last hour.”
“Good for him,” Logan growls. Truth be told, Logan would probably have punched Caudecus Beetlestone right in the face after five minutes. I hope he’s finally left behind something incriminating after all this. He turns back towards the centaurs, anger burning in his veins. Civilians are dying. Lieutenant Hines is leading a suicide mission, or as good as. His men are dying. And Caudecus is standing there, an oily smile on his face, spreading his hands innocently and claiming to have the best interests of Kryta at heart while poisoning her from the inside. “I have to punch some centaurs,” Logan announces to Francis.
Francis nods and draws his sword. “As do I.”
The night drags on. The rain pours down. Logan is exhausted. Even his training hadn’t taught him how to make do when he has no energy. His men are worse off. He takes injuries. His swordsmanship suffers. He continues holding his sword up against the centaurs simply because he must, because there is no other option. Because if he leaves, the garrison falls, and if the garrison falls, Divinity’s Reach comes under a siege that can only end one way.
And yet, despite Hines’ huge risk to protect the garrison’s northern flank, and despite the home advantage, and all the desperation and ferocity of being backed into a corner, the Seraph are losing. The centaurs keep pressing them back across the courtyard of the garrison as the rain continues to come down in torrents. Logan has no energy to spare for casting spells. Even so there are injured and dying. More fall each moment. The medics can’t keep up with the healing - they are as exhausted as Logan himself is. Even the ones that don’t need physical energy to cast spells are flagging.
Logan ducks a battleaxe. He counters with a swordstroke. Weariness rests in his bones. I wish I could’ve done right by the civilians all along… they've been suffering from lawlessness and banditry just because I gave up on managing the civil side of the Seraph’s duties… now I’ll never…
Logan narrowly avoids the sharp side of a centaur’s blade. This may have been his last day. He is not done yet, by a long shot, but the centaurs show no sign of letting up any time soon. It’s only a matter of time.
Logan rejects that idea. I cannot fall. Not here, not now! I am needed - there are soldiers and civilians both depending on me. I am the Champion of the Queen. I did not fight her foes on distant battlefields only to fail when they are at her doorstep! I will defend Jennah.
Another heavy breath, another close call.
…I won’t let all the sacrifices be in vain. Snaff, Glint… Destiny’s Edge.
But Logan struggles to lift his sword. He struggles to breath. He is at his limit. Nothing can overcome the simple fact that he is long past exhausted. His magic pool isn’t much use if he has no energy to turn into heat or light or healing. Nevertheless, the renewed determination holds Logan in place. He won’t give in to despair. He won’t fall. He will keep fighting and he will overcome. He has to.
And then there is a moment when there are no centaurs; Logan meets Francis’ gaze across the battlefield with only the glimmerings of understanding in his eyes. The bridge rumbles from hoofbeats. The centaurs charge across the courtyard. Logan is back to fighting his tired body to lift his sword against the enemy threatening Kryta… Divinity’s Reach… Jennah… the queen of his heart.
The momentary break had allowed the Seraph to advance a few feet. For Jennah, he whispers to himself as the battle commences. His muscles screaming in agony as he forces them into motion again. For Jennah, as the pain dulls to nothing in the overwhelm of the clash and combat of battle. For Jennah, as he shouts empty words of encouragement. Centaurs fall. Tired Seraph fall. Logan’s body feels big and bulky and moves sluggishly.
A centaur looms over him, sword rising high.
Logan tries to lift his own sword to block. His arms refuse to move. Logan looks dully up at the blade arcing down at him, and wonders if this is it, if he had failed, and he will be struck down in a moment and Kryta will finally succumb, if he had failed Jennah, failed Snaff, failed everyone…
And then he moves with a jerk and blocks the blade. The shock jolts through him. He slashes at the centaur and it falls with a yell. Logan fights and destroys the foes that threaten his everything - his country, his people, his queen, and now his own life.
He tries to block a blade and fails. The weight of a centaur sword crashes down on his pauldrons. A jolt lances down his arm, leaving it tingly and numb. He manages to duck the next swing. He blocks the one after that. The centaur rears back and kicks him. Logan crashes to the ground, head spinning, a sharp pain in his chest. Above him, two centaurs raise two blades high. Then there is one centaur, one blade. Two again.
Logan shakes his head. The world spins. He tries to crawl backward. The sword arcs downward. A Seraph soldier leaps over him and crashes into the centaur, flailing with two axes.
Logan slowly, painstakingly, hauls himself to his feet. He picks up his sword where it had fallen. His savior had beaten the centaur and its body lies with those of its brethren.
“Alright, Captain?”
“Good work, soldier.”
Logan steps forward to the battle again.
Logan’s late brother had once said he fought like a charr - which mean he was a brutish, dirty fighter, concerned more with practicality and ruthless victory than etiquette. But Logan had taken it as a compliment; his best friend Rytlock had been a charr. Charr are skilled, ruthless, and graceful even in the face of death. And nobody can say they don’t get results.
But here in the garrison, long past midnight, tired and soaked to the bone, Logan could not be said to fight like a charr; here he fights like an animal cornered, desperate and fearful.
Logan is half-aware as he stumbles through the forms of battle. He earns himself many cuts, scrapes, and injuries. Blood trickles down his face. The pain in his chest had not gone away. One pauldron is missing and the other dented. Smaller cuts and scrapes had healed quickly due to his natural affinity for protection and healing magic, but the larger injuries remain.
There is another break in the onrush of centaurs, Logan can’t appreciate it - he barely registers Lieutenant Francis shouting. The lieutenant is ordering the northern gates open. If there are any men left on the other side, they are needed. It takes a moment for Logan to register that this won’t help. It will only expose them to centaurs from the village.
But there is an exclamation. A weak cheer rises from the men on either side of him. Logan brightens. Sergeant Walters must have sent reinforcements. The extra men will help tide them over until Groban can send real aid. Logan forces firmness and confidence into his voice, although it feels like a voice not his own. “For Queen and Kryta!”
But it isn’t Seraph soldiers who join the fight. A double handful of villagers from Shaemoor, wielding all manner of old, rusty weapons - or items not designed for combat at all - rush into the garrison. The cheer dies. Logan’s heart plummets. These are reinforcements? Untrained? Civilians? Despair creeps over him. Exhaustion settles into his bones. He finds he cannot find the will to lift his sword. There’s no hope.
Nonsense. Logan can do this - he CAN because he MUST - because Snaff had died so Logan could protect Jennah once. Logan can’t let her down now. If he fails here, Snaff’s sacrifice was in vain. Logan would have achieved nothing for it. Rytlock would have been right to condemn him a faithless coward. Logan would have the blood of not just Snaff on his hands, but also of Jennah and all of Kryta. He cannot fail here. The civilians have come, and the civilians will fight. Logan cannot lay down the sword while anyone still fights, much less do so and let civilians do his work for him.
Yet the shame of turning to civilians for help - civilians whom Logan should have been protecting - is still present, if overwhelmed by sheer exhaustion and desperation. The garrison is in no position for Logan to turn away willing aid. All are standing against the destruction of Kryta. Logan turns and trudges toward the civilians, sheathing his sword tiredly. He is met by a young woman - dressed for combat in leather armor, with a quiver and longbow slung over her back. A big brown bear paces by her side. Well, a ranger and her companion might have more than just passing skill…
Word must be spreading. Maybe Groban had found a loophole. But she is no Seraph. “Civilian, can you and the others fight?” The question sickens him. Civilians dying at enemy hands is one thing, even if I did leave them unprotected… having them actively participating in battle… But he has no choice.
“Some of us can, but not all,” she replies. “Some of them have healing and reinforcement magic, but other than that only my sister, my companion, and I have been in a serious fight.” It goes unsaid that all will fight and do their best regardless.
Logan nods - that is about what he’d expected. This pair and the sister might be quite capable fighters, but three is a far cry from ‘reinforcements.’ Logan wishes he had more - even of civilians. He suppresses a sigh - it’ll have to do. “We have many injured. Send those healers to the back of the garrison - we have several medics there already who could use a hand. Tend first to those who have been there longest - they’ll be most rested.”
The ranger glances at her companion. “I have no healing magic myself, sir. Beorn - my companion - does, but that’s specifically a companion thing.”
Logan blinks. Most rangers have quite good healing and support magic. “No matter, I want you on the battlefield anyway.”
She nods. Logan wonders what he did to obtain such trust and loyalty from his civilians. Certainly it wasn’t by good civil management, he thinks ruefully, and not without a touch of regret. He is seeing more and more that it was unacceptable for him to leave the civil, domestic side of Seraph affairs to rot while he gloried in his battles and victories. He'd tried to sit through Groban's lectures on legal codes and penal and appellate systems and non-criminal disputes... he really had. But he'd had a duty and a responsibility to set up a system that would work instead of just abandoning it, and he'd abdicated responsibility because he was lazy, and good enough in other areas to get away with it.
He blinks, scans the battlefield again, and sighs. “You and those who are willing to fight - speak to Lieutenant Francis about equipment - armor and weapons. Once you join the battle, focus on reinforcing the center - it’ll be hit hardest once the next wave of centaurs comes.” Logan grimaces, guilt squeezing his chest. “I’m sorry to put you in the thick of the fighting like that, but my men are about to collapse. Get in there and do your best. Today you defend Kryta and her queen.”
The civilian comes to attention and salutes, one hand behind her back, but instead of thumping her chest with her fist, she brings her index and middle fingers to her temple. “Yes sir!”
That is… disorienting and rather odd, but she spins on her heel and marches back to the group of civilians, shouting instructions at them. Logan catches Francis’ eye across the courtyard and nods toward the civilians, then rejoins the line.
The next wave of centaurs arrives. The ranger and another woman join the ranks, helping a little to fill in the gaps in the line where Seraph had been injured. The line falters at the centaur onslaught, wavers, steps back. Other civilians join the line over the next few minutes. Miraculously, the line holds. Barely. Not for long. The unskilled civilians fall quickly, doing nothing so much as providing a distraction for the centaurs and an opportunity for Seraph soldiers to finish the centaurs off. His stomach churning, Logan focuses on his own fight and tries to block out the civilian screaming. He had failed again. Those are his people - people he had sworn to protect. He had betrayed every oath of protection of the people he had taken when he joined the Seraph - all in one night.
But there is nothing he can do. His oath to protect the queen and her kingdom is set over them all.

what are your thoughts on yandere levi 😩
my thoughts are: HELL YES
assuming that this is captain levi you're talking about, he's an already pretty terrifying force to be messing with in the first place, whether you are part of the corps or the enemy. to add on the yandere trope onto his character, you're in deep trouble LOL
ngl for me, it really varies on what kind of yandere he is depending on who he's interested in. for now, i'm only going to be explaining the instances and scenarios of reader either being a survey corps low-ranked soldier, marleyan captain enemy, and civilian.
i didn't mean for this to be so long but levi's been one of my favorites since middle school (literally was insane for him back then before reiner's s4 glowup lolol)
this is written as a gender-neutral reader sorta, no pronouns are used but it's slightly implied that this is a fem reader.
tw: manipulation, abuse of power, inappropriate touching, possessive behavior, implied non-con, implied mind-breaking
if you're part of the survey corps but serving as a low ranked soldier compared to levi, he constantly abuses his power over you. it doesn't show at all that he likes you, it's him mostly making you do things for him like you were his personal secretary. he takes you out of training to clean his office instead (he'd make you do it over and over again if it's not up to his standards), takes you away from your lunch group so you can boil his tea for him, sometimes just pulling you out of anything you're doing just to hang around him. at first, you were excited to take any job from him, after all, levi's one of the top soldiers in the corps. it was completely out of respect for the man until you begun to realize that he's just using you to only do "desk-jobs". you start getting sick of doing meaningless jobs for him but you're terrified of even saying anything about it to humanity's strongest soldier. levi's never going to be the really touchy type in any of my renditions of him being a yandere, but you've occasionally felt his faint touches around certain parts of your body as if a ghost had brushed past you; other times, he sternly grips your forearm or shoulder whenever he's in a not-so-pleasant mood. since him and erwin are buddy-buddy, he turns an eye with his behavior towards you, telling you that he would report the mistreatment to the higher-ups but really just throw away the files. he doesn't want his best soldier to falter anytime soon and you being a little special treat to satiate his appetite is nothing short of a itty bitty loss in the ranks. he's manipulative, wavering the threat of forcibly having you dishonorably discharged when you don't do as you're told. you wouldn't want your family to know that you're a shameful excuse of a soldier, would you? so be a good little pet, get down on your knees and beg for his forgiveness by any means necessary.
if you're a marleyan enemy soldier, especially a captain like him, FUCK there's so much tension between the two of you. his paradisian devil soldiers made a complete mess that night, killing many of the underlings and your coworkers, incapacitating the warriors as if they were nothing short of pests. you saw the absolute speed of that man who tore through one of the hinges of galliard's jaw and completely cut down jaeger's beast titan form, swearing nothing but completely hatred for that demon. levi thought you were interesting the moment he spotted you witnessing his attacks, eyes wide with admiration but stewing with disgust at the same time. there was a certain kind of fear that he's never seen before and the two of you shared a long stare before you took a shot, barely missing your intended target: him. a frustrated scream ripped out of you as you had to powerlessly watch them leave through one of the many blimps in the air. you didn't realize that he soon shot his ODM spears towards you, zipping in your direction and kicking you down to the ground. it was like he teleported in front of you as he stood over your body but you were soon knocked out with the butt of your own rifle. you woke up tied to a chair, hair being pulled back and gaze focused on the blinding light above you. he started asking questions, hitting you around like a training dummy but you refused to budge no matter how much pain you were in, spitting and laughing at his face. one of his comrades told him that it was useless trying to make you spill out anything, that they already knew everything that they needed to know from the marleyan defectors and zeke. part of his motivation for this (at that point in the anime) is because he's so sick of losing everyone important in his life so having someone to control, knowing what the outcome is because their future is strung by his own hands, it made the pain easier to deal with. on your side, for some godforsaken reason, he refused to let you go or kill you. oh no, no, no. he wants you to break. he wants that terrified, but idolized look in your eyes again. levi wants you to completely forget the person you are and who you served, only becoming his sweet and obedient marleyan prisoner.
if you're just an average citizen, it's a slow build-up of when levi began to take an interest with you. it was on accident but he starts to occasionally spot you whenever the scouts come back from outside expeditions, eyes wandering over the injured with a sullen expression. he couldn't decipher whether you felt simply ashamed of their loss again or that you felt bad that they had to keep doing this to themselves. that's usually only the few times where he sees you, usually trying to keep to himself and ignore the other bystanders. you were always there however, as if his eyes were automatically always darting to the same spot when he looked over into the crowd. when hange forced him to get out of the stuffy corps building and out into the city, he found himself staring at you while you serve drinks out to customers. it's filthy the way you brush your hand against theirs, winking at them to rub it even more. it was reminiscent, as if he was back watching an underground whore working for better tips. it felt strange seeing you outside of something he was used to, especially if it's something as deprecating as this back-alley bar. levi couldn't stop himself from standing up and trudging over to you when some pig put his hands on you, more so from what you're obviously comfortable with. it felt like he was back in the underground, the way he dug his fists into that sorry son of a bitch's face, fighting the group of men that he was with as well. hange eventually joined in as well, cheering in joy as they threw a beer glass into some guy who was sneaking up behind him. as the fight started to get more insane, he snatched you away from the scene when the moment was right (he may have left hange behind but they're more than capable of handling themselves in a fight). you thanked him profusely and offhandedly mentioned that you were definitely not working back there again after what happened. it could've been the traces of alcohol in his system or the adrenaline, but he kissed you right there. you pushed him away of course, completely shocked that the humanity's strongest had literally just kissed you unwarrantedly. he wanted to take his time to get to know you, he really did. yet levi realizes that he's no different from the disgusting man that he had just beat his face in, his grip around your arm tightening as he forces you against the grating wall in the dark alleyway.

Thinking about what if Trafalgar Law had an s/o that is secretly rich. Like...
They don't flaunt it but they aren't exactly hiding it either. How would law react?
Would he be neutral? Would he be confused...? Like...? What?
Characters: GN! reader x Law
Cw: some fighting/arguments, cute fluff other than that :)
Total word count: 700
Quite literally nothing goes unnoticed with Law, so I imagine he figures out you’ve got money pretty quickly. However, he’s not sure how much you have or how you’re getting it, and he won’t confront you until something big happens.
It starts out with little things. On port days you always come back with an extra special dessert or something fancy to share with the whole crew. Law can calculate how much it costs to buy something that nice for a crew of 20 people. He doesn’t think anything of it at first, but after the third time at port, he’s suspicious of your finances. But again, he’s not asking.
A crew mate mentions that they want something they see while they’re on an island but don’t have enough berries. Every now and then when you hear someone talk about something they really want, you’ll buy it for them and place it on their bed while they’re out.
You never say anything about it or let them know it was you who bought it, but every time someone shows up to dinner showing off something they wanted, Law notices how your eyes are full of joy, while everyone else’s are full of amazement and shock. The crew thinks it’s their captain who’s giving the gifts, and he thoroughly denies it, but he never throws you under the bus.
And then the ship needs a repair. A BIG one. And you’re stuck at port until you can get it fixed. Law gets the estimate for repair at 100,000 berries. You can see he’s stressed about it, trying to figure out where to cut corners to afford such a big (but necessary) repair. His stress is bleeding into all other aspects of his life, including your relationship.
So you walk into his office one day, and just set the money gently on the table, and walk away. He’s staring at the money, shocked that you could have so much on hand.
“Y/N-ya?” he calls to you before you exit the room. “Where on earth did you get this?”
“It’s better not to ask questions,” you smirk back at him and leave. You’d rather not tell him that you were rich, it’s not like it really mattered anyway.
Later, when the two of you are alone in his room, he brings it back up again. “Seriously, though” he purrs to you, kissing the crook of your neck in between words. “Where are you getting all this money?”
You laugh and push him away gently, teasing him. “What, you think I’m a secret Marine spy or something?”
His eyebrow raised in suspicion, playing along with your joke. “Wouldn't be unheard of, you know.”
You kiss the tip of his nose, finally giving in. “It’s just some money I had from my past life, Captain. Nothing more to it.”
That’s enough of an answer for him. Law isn’t one to pry, and he trusts you completely.
He continues to let you do small gestures for your crewmates anonymously. Your secret is safe with him.
But he doesn’t let you pay for ship problems or other things he should have to deal with as a captain in the future. Sometimes it can spark arguments between the two of you. He’s so damn independent and prideful, and you just want to help ease his burdens when you can. You two usually find a compromise, but sometimes the argument can last a few days until one of you gives in to the other.
Sometimes he caves first, sometimes you do. It not a super common occurrence, and after your alls spat about money is over, it’s completely forgotten. Law doesn’t want to take advantage of you, even though he knows you don’t see it like that. Because of that, you rarely buy things for him. He’s more of an “Acts of Service'' and “Quality Time” kind of guy anyway.
He likes to pamper you with gifts though. Little treats from a bakery, small pieces of jewelry you pass by and comment on. In the back of his mind, he knows you can afford it, but he still likes to show his love through little gifts anyway. And you like receiving the gifts too. They’re way more special coming from him.

For bingo card, can I request protective with bucky? Like he is super protective of the reader, and the reader likes it and makes her feel safe and secure
Extra for tooth-rotting fluff
Tysm already😘
Thank you so much 🥰 I love this request, but i mixed it with another because it actually fit very well. So, I went ahead and turned @buckaroundandfindout’s request into reality as well. This is basically part two of presumed dead but each part can be read individually 😊
Protective (Bingo Game)
!BINGO ASKS CLOSED!
BuckyBarnes x Female!Reader
word count: 1.2k
warnings: Bucky being angsty and vulnerable, fluff (so much), Steve being a little too captain, and swearing
part one | part two (each can be read individually)
“Steve!!” It echoed through the hallway before heavy footsteps sped toward Steve’s office.
The Captain already had an inkling of what the rage was about, but he would approach it with reason and calmness as he always did.
“What is this?” Bucky’s eyes were fiery as he held the tablet up to Steve’s face, his hand shaking with agitation before the screen went black again.
“You know what it is” Steve moved to put his notepad away and stood up to level with his friend. He wasn’t proud of it, but he had to do what was necessary, even if it would drive the wedge between them further.
“But didn’t I tell you that she’s not going on a mission with you idiots anymore? Don’t you remember what happened last time?” There was sweat building on his brow now. Steve hated his position in times like this. Times, in which he would rather console his best friend than reason with him why he put his girlfriend back on a mission she had almost died on last time. He hated it, really, but he had an obligation to do so.
Steve sighed with a heavy heart. “She’s a grown woman, Buck.” If he were to argue with himself right now, he’d call bullshit too.
“Grown women can still get injured and lost on a glacier and die!” There was fear forming behind the angry eyes staring him down with a plea. It was hard to see Bucky like this, so desperate and scared, but he couldn’t put him first. Not when so many lives were on the line. Not when going without you would definitely kill his team.
“I'm not changing it, we need her.” Steve turned to look out the window where the sun shone brightly through the clouds. A stark contrast to the atmosphere in his office right now.
“Stop being a punk, Steve.” He was closer now, almost daring but Steve knew that Bucky was begging for help. He wouldn’t back down, but neither would Steve. He’d rather have his best friend think he was an asshole than be responsible for genocide.
“Buck..”
But the brunette had turned as soon as Steve’s mouth opened, speeding out the door and shoving Sam aside gruffly on his way. “Woah, what’s going on?”
“Fuck off.” And then he was around the corner leaving Sam to stare between Steve and the place Bucky just was in confusion.
“What’s this about?” He closed the door as he stepped in and Steve just sighed with his hands on his hips and the sad shake of his head.
-❁-
“Fucking prick!” You watched as Bucky hauled a pillow at the bed with so much force, you were sure went beyond the pillow fight scale. But you didn’t say anything yet. Bucky needed to calm down first and sort out his anger before he could think clearly again.
He wasn’t good with his emotions, and apart from affection, which was definitely the hardest for him, anger and fear didn’t mix well with him either sometimes.
Bucky paced the room for another minute, frustrated grunts leaving his mouth every once in a while, and then, finally, he plopped down on the bed with his head in his hands.
“Is this about the mission?” You carefully approached him, mindful of his agitated state, and gently knelt down before him.
His head shot up again. “Yes, it’s about the mission. He’s sending you out so the same place again!” And then he was looking down again, some short strands falling out of place as he shook his head harshly.
Bucky was struggling, you knew the signs: fast and shallow breaths, avoiding eye contact, and that painful ache in your heart whenever you felt something was wrong with him. And if it weren’t for your being the cause of his worry, you would have probably taken time to appreciate his protectiveness. But you wanted to make things right. Bucky was the sweetest, most caring guy in the universe; it wasn’t fair for him to feel this way because of some stupid mission. He needed you to be safe and he needed reassurance.
“Take a breath with me, Bucky.” Your hand slowly laid on his knee but he instantly jerked away, a choked noise escaping him when he did and it broke your heart a little more. “It’s okay, baby. I’ll be fine.” Your hands kept soothing over his pants, and this time he let you.
Bucky was relaxing all over again - slowly. You could feel it beneath your fingertips, sense it in the room.
But then he finally looked up at you, revealing the tears stinging in his eyes. “But what if you’re not?” His voice was breaking. You didn’t say a word, let him sit in the silence for a moment. You didn’t know what to say. Of course, your job was dangerous, and unfortunately, accidents had happened before, but you were capable and trained and skilled and tough.
His flesh hand covered yours, his thumb soothing over your skin as a tear met with your touch. “I thought I lost you once and it was the worst feeling I’ve ever felt.” His Eyes were boring into you, captivating you, pulling you in. You could feel his pain, his fear. “I can’t lose you. Not again, not ever.” It was only a whisper when his little speech finished but it didn’t affect you any less.
Bucky Barnes was scared, and it took everything in his being to tell you. His anger, the frustration towards all of it, were all born from the fright losing you was providing. And even though it was sad, you somehow found it endearing as well. You were proud of Bucky. Because not only did he get a step closer to communicating his feelings, but he also merged into a man that had things to live for more and more.
Worlds divided the Bucky you met a year ago and the insanely sweet and vulnerable man in front of you right now. And though you could see the timidness in his eyes, he tried so hard to conceal, you knew he had gotten over the initial hurdle.
“You won’t,” you said steadily as you forced an encouraging smile on your face. You would not let Bucky fall into a panic attack when he had already come this far. He deserved just as much security as he provided you with. Care and love and so much more you were exchanging on a daily basis.
But he just huffed in response. You could see the tears in his eyes shimmering with uncertainty and you wanted to kiss each one of them away with tender love. But it wasn’t easy. You were going on that mission, whether your boyfriend liked it or not. You could, however, soften the blow.
You reached up to cup his face and gently pressed your forehead to his as you closed your eyes. “What if I talk Steve into letting you come with us?” You whispered onto his lips, soft skin grazing his chapped ones.
You could feel Bucky’s hands tighten for a moment, but then he relaxed and exhaled slowly. There was calmness washing through his veins, it cooled him down, made him weigh his options rationally - you could feel it, almost heard the wheels turning inside his skull.
“I guess...” He pressed your hand deeper into his skin, nuzzling his face, and kissed your palm. “I could agree to that.”
“Okay.” You pulled him back with a short but sweet kiss “Good.”

Stuck on You (Levi x Childhood Friend! Reader) Part 2
A/N: Hey guys! It’s been kinda a while but here is part 2~ I have this habit of writing and rewriting my pieces since I’m never fully satisfied by them, but overdoing that is just as bad so I’m going to leave this as is ajflkajada The amount of love my first part recieved was so genuinely heart warming and I cannot express my gratitude enough. I’m nervous to post this because of it, to be honest, because I hope it lives up to the expectations. Thank you to everyone who has shown me support, it means so much! If you guys want a part three, or maybe just a short epilogue, I will consider it so let me know! Also if you would like to be tagged in my future works, comment below or send me a message <3 I hope you all enjoy!
Warnings: Angst, Season 1 and No Regrets ova spoilers
Word Count: 4k
If you haven’t already, read part one here
As a former member of the Scouts yourself, you knew the ins and outs of the military’s regulations. Because of this, you also knew your request was a strange one, seeing as soldiers weren’t typically allowed visitors, but you hoped your letter appealed to the more personal side of Commander Erwin. Apparently it somehow moved the man, seeing as you had been brought by carriage to the legion's base the following night.
The clopping of horse hooves eventually stopped, and you were currently being escorted into the building by another familiar face, her hand already outstretched to help you out of the vehicle as soon as the door swung open.
“I understand your reservations about this, but you’re brave for coming here. I think he’ll be relieved to see you, (Y/N),” Hange spoke, her fingers hovering over the small of your back as she guided you down one of the many hallways, lantern swinging in her free hand. “I think he could benefit from seeing a familiar face.”
Your eyes were downcast, staring at the floor as rooms upon rooms passed by along your path. You couldn’t speak if you tried, words seemingly stuck in your throat and unable to keep up with your racing thoughts.
Deep breaths, (Y/N).
For better or for worse, there was no need to reply, as Hange came to a halt not a second later. She squeezed your shoulder gently before bringing her knuckles to the wooden door, knocking once, twice.
Your hands were clammy, heart thundering in your ears as you tried to steady your breathing.
“Levi, someone is here to see you,” Hange’s voice rang out firmly.
There was a distinct sound of a chair being pushed back, and footsteps growing nearer. Time slowed down, and you began to second guess every decision up to now. Would Levi even want you to be here? Will he be angry? You felt like bolting away and forgetting about the whole idea, suddenly afraid of his reaction. Afraid that your presence would only make everything worse.
Your eyes were widening as you realized the possibility of leaving was too late to explore, Levi already turning the handle from the other side. So instead, you swallowed your pride, stood up straighter, and pushed away the growing sensation of nausea in your gut.
“Who could possibly be important enough to interrupt my--”
The second his eyes met yours, Levi halted in all movements. Your gaze was fixed on him as well, every bit of longing settling back in your bones the second it did.
He looked nearly the same as the last time you saw him, clean and kempt as ever, hair styled the way it always was-- the same way he’d keep it when he used to chastise you for running your fingers through it.
And those stoic, gray irises that drew you in your were fierce, yet somehow emptier. At the sight of you, his flooding emotions became too much to properly register, unlocking every moment you’d ever spent with him as they replayed all at once.
“(Y/N)?” He couldn’t hide his disbelief, eyes widening ever so slightly.
“Hello, Levi.”
~~~~~~~~~
Never did Levi think he would grow to care for another group of people the same way he had for you, Farlan, and Isabel. But sitting around Petra, Gunther, Eld, and Oruo, he found their excited chatter over the dinner table endearing more than anything. The ever stoic look on his face didn’t change, and he would never openly admit it, but it felt reminiscent to be surrounded by trusted company like this. All of Squad Levi had full faith in one another; it was necessary for the battle field. This created an unspoken bond between all of them that the unreachable Ackerman did not picture building with others again.
Fate worked in funny ways, he supposed.
Sounds of clinking silverware and chatter filled the mess hall, sun setting outside of its many windows and painting the expanse in an orange light. The males eyes drifted towards the entrance of the room expectantly, where a clock rested above the doorway. He took a sip of his tea whilst squinting at it, attempting to get a better read before feeling a slight jab in his side.
“Looking for someone, sir?” Petra inquired, with a hint of deeper emotion in her tone that went right over the male’s head.
He glared at her in annoyance, having almost spilled his drink as the thought of you returned to the forefront of his mind.
It was strange, seeing how capable you had become after spending those months by yourself in the Underground. They made you a bit more calloused than when Levi last saw you, carrying over to your skills as a Scout. You never used to be skilled at riding ODM gear, not even when Levi tried to teach you in your youth. Seeing you slash Titans without blinking an eye was like watching someone completely different.
But you had to learn, since you had no one to protect you.
Your open displays affection had grown fewer and farther between as your time in the Survey Corps dragged on. At first, Levi thought nothing of it. Truthfully, the Captain had hardly noticed, with how busy the both of you were. He wrote it off as stress, or the workload catching up to you. Or, maybe, it was that nagging thought in the back of his conscience he dared not dwell on: he had turned you into this, after being away for so long and then failing to protect your friends.
But as your words replayed in his mind like a broken record, too late he realized this wasn’t the case.
“I see the way you look at her. I see it because you used to look at me that way.”
“Captain?” Petra repeated, leaning forward to study his distant countenance and successfully pulling the man out of his thoughts. “She’s probably just training.”
He rested his hand on top of her head, turning it away from him and sighing.
“Eat, Petra. I don’t need you to be whining about hunger during our patrol tomorrow morning,” he chastised, forcing his eyes away from the doorway.
After that talk, Levi had watched you go, telling himself that you’d return soon enough. Yet could not shake the feeling in his gut that there was something amiss. He pushed away the pit in his stomach. You were safe, you were healthy, and that was all that mattered. Humanity’s Strongest had other things to focus on, after all, and tuned back into his comrades’ conversation. The man blended back in easily, occasionally offering a few of his own comments as the meal dragged on.
Every so often his thoughts would shift back to your conversation earlier that day, and he realized that you were wrong. As close to Petra as he had gotten, there was a stark difference between you and her:
No matter how strong you’d get, and no matter what you thought of him, Levi would always shield you from as much of this world as he could.
But it was better this way. Better if you moved on from him and easier to do if you thought it was because he wanted Petra.
If only he knew your last words to him “I’ll be back for dinner,” had been a lie.
It had been strange for him when you didn’t return. Levi tried not to think about how Kenny had done the same, instead grasping for a reason. For once, he could not read your thought process. The male had no idea why you’d voluntarily leave, after everything. He knew better than to hold onto certainty, but you’d thrown him for a loop. You were always the one to communicate, the problem solver, the one who understood him without much direction. Didn’t you know that you were irreplaceable? He should have come clean: told you that he didn’t see Petra that way, and just didn’t have the heart to admit he didn’t feel good enough for you anymore.
Did he ever even get the chance to say “I love you?”
His regret multiplied tenfold as he began to understand that maybe if he had, you would’ve stayed.
~~~~~~~~
A strange sense of comfort washed over the man as you smiled softly, small hands clasped together in front of you. He blinked, wondering if you were simply a mirage caused by his sleep deprivation. But you remained where you were, after all this time, standing at his door. For once in the man’s life, his mind was drawing a blank.
“I’ll leave you guys to it, then,” Hange stated, excusing herself and soon disappearing out of sight.
Her statement pulled the both of you back into the present, and you were suddenly self conscious of Levi’s stare. You tucked your hair behind your ears and gestured towards his office, unable to gage his reaction to your presence.
“Would it be alright if I came in?” you asked shyly, astonished he hadn’t slammed the door in your face the second Hange left.
To your shock, Levi simply nodded, stepping aside to let you through. Your movements were unsure and hesitant, stark in comparison to his: calm and collected as ever.
Just like any space Levi occupied, the area was clean and tidy, a lantern sitting upon his desk the only source of light against the cloudy night sky. It smelled like tea leaves, sandalwood, and disinfectant, a signature scent that made you fill with nostalgia. As the click of the door echoed behind you, the reality of your situation set in, and you turned around to face the man you were here to see.
His gaze had never left you.
“You’re hurt,” was the first thing that left your mouth, concern evident as you studied the bandaging that peaked above his knee length shoes.
“Long story,” Levi offered curtly, eyeing you up and down from a few feet away. “One I don’t particularly care to tell you.”
“Of course, that’s fine,” you agreed softly, a weak smile pulling at your lips.
You did your best to mask the hurt, knowing you deserved to feel it. It hurt to be here, the fear that Levi hated you previously keeping you away. Now that you were facing the music, that fear seemed more realistic than ever. Your brain wracked to change the topic before your mind could continue overthinking; desiring instead to cut the unbearable, building tension that never used to exist between you two.
“How are you, Levi?” it was a stupid question, but you no longer knew how to talk to him.
“(Y/N).”
The way he said your name was sharp and challenging. You quickly cleared your throat and looked away.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have asked. Of course you’re--”
“--Why did you leave?” Levi effectively cut you off, orbs narrowing as you dared to come closer.
The question caught you off guard. You thought you’d made it obvious with your last conversation with him those years ago. Surely, he had some idea, although his pained expression said otherwise. His fingers twitched at his sides, a movement you didn’t miss as your eyes flickered back to his in surprise. He had been so composed just a moment ago, that the sudden shift gave you whiplash.
Now his fists were clenching, as he waited in the painful silence, knuckles turning white.
“Why did you leave?” The phrase echoed tauntingly in your ears, over and over again.
You don’t know what came over you. All you knew was that you needed to rid him of the rare, defeated look etched into his countenance. To purge him of this feeling you caused. Whether reaching out would help or hurt, you didn’t know.
But you needed to be near him.
Levi’s eyelids screwed shut as you brushed your thumb across his cheek. The action was so simple, so delicate, so unsure and so familiar all at once, and at the feeling, the Captain’s composure finally came undone.
He reached up and gripped your wrist, as if you’d fade away if he let go. In previous years, it was always you who craved skinship, yet it seemed as if a weight had been lifted off Levi’s shoulders to have you this close. Your touch still felt like the comforting warmth of a campfire; the type that would make anyone want to stay forever.
“I’m sorry. I thought you’d be better off without me,” you whispered. “I didn’t want to cause you any pain.”
He let out a breath.
“Then why are you here now?” his question was more defeated than hostile, which you hadn’t expected.
If someone asked a few hours ago, your answer would have been much clearer. But now, the logic that brought you here seemed overshadowed by doubt. After all this time, and after everything that had happened between you and Levi, any semblance of a relationship with him seemed unsalvageable. You told yourself this mantra over and over until it stuck. So why were you here?
Levi must’ve thought it audacious, for you to run away like a coward and still think you were relevant to him.
“I owe you so much. Whether I ended up being wrong or right, I’ve always acted with your best interest,” you sighed, thumb brushing over Levi’s dark circles. “Truthfully, I don’t know if I’m any use to you now. I might be the last person you want to seek comfort from, but on the off chance that I still matter to you, I’ll always come back,” you whispered earnestly.
Levi’s grip on your wrist tightened imperceptibly, and you longed to bury your face in the crook of his neck; to feel him wrap his arms around you in his embrace once more. It seemed as if Levi was staring into your soul, his shallow breaths mingling with yours at this close proximity as he opened his eyes to fully drink you in.
“I’m here to tell you that if you need me, I’ll stay.”
He looked to the side as if brushing aside your touch, hand falling away from the raven-haired man’s face as he did so. It felt like rejection, as if he was brushing all of you away with a simple turn of his head.
Silence.
“You’re a real idiot, (Y/N),” he spoke finally, voice nearly out of place against the stillness.
Moonlight suddenly peaked through the window, showering you in a bath of silver light. Levi recognized this look. You were wearing your heart on your sleeve, offering everything you had to give; eyes wide and honest, shining with a vulnerability that even after a lifetime of knowing you, he had never seen before. The man felt conflicted at the sight, annoyance prickling under his skin as you somehow managed to hold him together and tear him apart all at once with your presence.
Losing his squad twist that knife in his heart, convincing him that he was cursed to be left by everyone and his superhuman talents only doomed him to live a life alone.
But now, here you were, standing within arms length: despite the pain you caused, still the only person he had left. Only you could draw this much emotion out of the typically monotonous man. He couldn’t tell if you were a blessing or a curse, but in the moment, all he knew was that he didn’t want you to leave again. He needed you to stay here, with him, the way it should be. Because you were family.
And true to your word, you did.
“You should really get some sleep, you know,” you stated after a while, closing the door with your foot as you entered with two fresh cups of tea.
You watched Levi fill out paperwork on the other side of the desk, bringing the cup to his lips in the strange fashion you always teased him for. His gaze flickered up boredly.
“You know I don’t sleep. You go on ahead, though. The bed’s behind that door,” he paused, gesturing somewhere behind him. “I hardly ever use it.”
You shook your head, reaching forward and plucking Levi’s pen from his hand.
“What you’re drinking is caffeine free. I switched it, so you have no excuse now.” You ignored the indignant scowl growing on the Captain’s face, urging him to listen. “Please, you really should rest. You know you need to.”
It took an entire hour of imploring and convincing for the man to finally give in, him grumbling as you helped take off the boot on his injured foot and ushered him onto the bed. You knew you were the last person with any right to tell the short Captain what to do, but knowing Levi, he was running on an hour or two of sleep while his body was begging for rest. And yes, you were very much hypocritical, draped across the couch in Levi’s office, staring at the ceiling. But none of that mattered to you, as long as he was okay.
You had been lost in introspection, being a room away from your childhood best friend and first love after so long a surreal experience. It felt strange to be back here, but you were too tired to dwell on how strangely out of place you seemed in a place you once called home.
The weight of your abundant emotions from the day finally crashed down, fatigue settling in. You rubbed your eyes, and snuggled closer to the cushions, letting the darkness claim you.
And in the other room, as Levi slipped out of his uniform, shaking his head in exasperation. His last thoughts while he inspected the door as if he could see you through it, was that of course only (Y/N) (L/N) could be more stubborn than he was.
As he slipped under the covers per your command, the ghost of a smile spread across his lips at the thought.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Perhaps it was the constant danger of where you grew up, and the need to always stay on your toes, but for as long as you could remember, you’d been a light sleeper. If someone so much as stared at you for too long, your body would jolt awake, ready to take action within a moment’s notice. There had been many instances where this came in handy in your past; even after years of seldom disruption in your now boring life within the walls, this was a trait you never seemed to grow out of. So it wasn’t hard to notice the heavy breathing and panicked movement from behind Levi’s closed door.
Just like for you, some things never changed-- when it came to old habits, you knew the man like the back of your hand. The reason he rarely ever slept was one you were quite familiar with. One both of you struggled with, and probably always would. Nightmares never seem to stop. You’d gotten through so many of your own rough nights with your friends by your side.
Levi, however, always refused to admit how they affected him. Insisted on going through it by himself.
The subconscious urge to look after one other was most likely one you'd never grow out of, even if Levi had. You didn’t think twice before making your way across the office, swinging your legs across the sofa, awake within seconds. Without missing a beat, you stood up and made your way to Levi’s personal sleeping quarters, knuckles rapping against the frame twice. Levi’s shallow gasps quieted, and when you realized he didn’t plan on opening the door, you steeled your nerves to do it yourself. This was what you were here for, wasn’t it? To offer some comfort?
He did want me to stay.
“Levi?” You called into the darkness gently, feet padding foreword as your eyes adjusted to the lack of light.
His silhouette was upright in the bed, no doubt staring at you menacingly.
“I'm fine, (Y/N). Go back to sleep,” he snapped.
That didn't deter you, for he would never openly admit vulnerability. This was by no means new behavior. Besides, the strong emotion behind the Captain’s voice was an easy tell that betrayed his words. You pressed on, sitting on the edge of the mattress.
“Do you remember the time we were teenageers and you got sick, but couldn’t afford medicine so I took that sketchy job you specifically told me not to?” Your back was to him, yet you could feel Levi peering at you.
“Obviously,” he humoured you with a reply, knowing you weren’t going to leave. “You came home half alive and I felt like the most useless piece of shit in the world.”
You chuckled, fingers fiddling with the white sheets beneath them.
“Yes, which was unfair to yourself but also something I did not realize since you called me pretty much every name in the book,” you smiled, the memory oddly fond despite its events. “You were so angry, but I was also scared out of my mind... which was more important than your anger, I suppose. So you let me lay next to you that night. That was all it took to make me feel safe again.”
There was a long pause, you trying to get your words together in a way that could allow Levi to understand how you felt right now.
“I know what you’re thinking; what you’ve been thinking your whole life. You haven’t failed anyone and that stupid idea should be the furthest thing on your mind. Take it from someone who knows, alright? So many lives have had meaning because of y--”
His hand closed around your wrist, the grip much like it was the day you left him.
This time, he would not let go.
“--Stop, (Y/N). Don’t.”
You hadn’t realized there were tears falling down your cheeks until Levi turned your face to look at him. Trying to look away in your embarrassment, you laughed bitterly. His grip did not budge as he examined you sternly.
“Just be quiet and go to sleep, alright?”
You wiped at your face, determination etched into every fibre of your being.
“Mark my words, Levi, I will make you believe me.”
Levi rolled his eyes but tugged at you once more, opening the duvet in an invitation. When he sensed your uncertainty he simply nodded, arms winding around your waist as you finally crawled in beside him. Both of you knew that there was so much that still needed to be said; so many buried feelings and pain that would only take time to unravel. It felt like a miracle to find yourselves in this situation, pushing aside the thousands of emotions and questions and misunderstandings the two of you had, if only to stay together in this moment.
You didn’t need Levi to know that you still loved him; not while he was coping with another loss. It would be selfish to spring that on, and that was not what you were here for. But you had to tell him:
“I missed you.”
Levi hummed, nose brushing against yours in the close proximity.
“You better not be gone when I wake up,” he chided in response, orbs fluttering shut.
Your fingers threaded through his onyx black locks, brushing through the knots soothingly. Knowing you’d help this man heal no matter how long it took, you took comfort in the realization that he’d finally let you do just that.
“I’ll be right here. You’re not alone, Levi. I promise you never will be.”
He pulled you closer, thankful that there was at least one source of warmth left in his life that he could hold onto-- especially after coming to terms with and almost having been certain he’d never experience this feeling of contentment, again. But here you were to prove him wrong, a living slice of home in his arms.
It may have been wishful thinking, but you could have sworn you felt Levi’s breath fan across your hairline, a soft voice whispering “Thank you, (Y/N).” before you felt yourself slip away into slumber once more.
Mission: New Asgard
Character: Loki x reader (completely gender neutral. There are zero indications of the readers gender, no pronouns at all. Note that this is written from the perspective of a woman, though, so if something is too biased, please let me know!)
Summary: You are assigned to help integrate the Asgardians to Midgardian society, but your mission ends a whole lot different than you expect.
Warnings: None!
Word Count: 5,493
A/N: My second fic! The title is supposed to be a play on the Mission: Impossible movies, but I've never actually seen one, so sorry if it's wrong lol. Now that I officially have more than one fic, I'm gonna make a masterlist, so that will be coming soon. I hope you like the story!
You rapped your knuckles on the office door that had been left slightly ajar. “Director Mackenzie? You asked to see me?”
“Come on in, Y/N. Elena was just leaving.”
You opened the door and nodded at Agent Rodriguez as she made her way out. She gave you a curt nod in return.
Alphonso Mackenzie, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., leaned back into the chair behind his desk and gestured for you to have a seat. “And for the last time, Y/N, you are one of my most trusted operatives. Call me Mack, please.”
You sat down. “Sorry, Mack.”
He opened a desk drawer and pulled out a file folder stuffed to the brim with documents, which he dropped onto the desk between you, the loud thwap resounding in the small office.
“I have a mission for you, Agent. A few days ago, the planet Asgard was completely destroyed.”
“Asgard?” you interjected. “Like where Thor is from?”
He nodded. “You’ll find all of that and more in these files. Thor and his brother Loki have set up a colony in a small town in Norway. We need you to supervise the integration of the Asgardian people onto Earth. This is the first known mass migration of aliens that our planet has ever seen, and we need to be keeping a close eye on this, or it could go sideways real fast.”
You pulled the files closer and began to flip through a few pages. “I thought Loki was a bad guy. What was it? 80 people in 2 days? Plus the invasion of New York. Why are we letting him back here?”
Mack sighed and rubbed his temple. “I can’t personally vouch for the man, but Thor claims he was being mind controlled. According to Thor, Loki eventually broke free of the control and killed the guy who was behind the whole thing. Some alien named Thanos? Tony Stark himself seems okay with this New Asgard business, and you know how paranoid he gets. So for now, we observe, not attack.”
“Gotcha,” you said. “When do I leave?”
“As soon as you can get your stuff together and get out of here. Say the word and we'll start prepping a Quinjet.”
“Aye, aye, captain,” you said, standing up and grabbing the files. “I’ll let you know as soon as I get an idea of my timeline.”
“Thank you Agent L/N, and good luck.”
------
You gripped the steering wheel tightly, barely making a rather sharp turn. When you finished this assignment, you were going to have to have a talk with whoever designed these roads. Despite the unsafe driving conditions, though, you sighed in contentment. You were back in the field, this is where you belonged.
You pulled a van loaded to the brim with various tech items mixed in with your personal possessions down a bumpy road, coming to a stop before a small, rustic-looking, seaside town, where two men and a woman stood for you. The sun was beginning to dip below the horizon. You turned the key and shut off the van, trying to get a read on each of the people standing before you.
The buff blond man was clearly Thor. You recognized him from the news and the files you had read. Next to him was a tall woman with dark hair who had wan air of confidence about her. You had never seen her, nor did S.H.I.E.L.D. have any data on her. The third man was lanky, but clearly still fit, with dark hair that fell just past his shoulders. He was clad in green and had a demeanor that made you shiver. This was Loki, scourge of New York and would-be king of Midgard. But Thor and Tony Stark had vouched for him, and that would have to be enough for Y/N L/N, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.
You exited the van and heard Thor call to you. “Welcome, newcomer! Our scouts observed your vehicle approaching our home!”
You walked briskly towards the group. Game time. Put on the 'no time for your shit' face and get to business. Coming to a stop in front of them, you began to speak. “My name is Y/N L/N and I am here on behalf of S.H.I.E.L.D., the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division of the American government. We have been granted permission from the government of Norway to oversee this colony's development. This is an unprecedented situation on Earth, and as such, we have written new protocols. I am the agent assigned to this case, and I will be supervising the construction of New Asgard and its integration into Midgardian society.”
Thor furrowed his brow. “I was under the impression that S.H.I.E.L.D. was controlled by Hydra.”
You nodded. “Unfortunately, yes. The previous incarnation of S.H.I.E.L.D. was corrupt, but we are a hardy breed, so to speak. A much smaller branch has survived, and deals with various situations across the world, aliens being one of them.”
Thor nodded. “Then we welcome your presence here with open arms.”
Loki scoffed. “You are too trusting, brother. This so-called agent could be anyone. What cause do we have to believe this story?”
You turned to him. “Loki, God of Mischief, Chaos, and Lies, correct? You of all people should know, am I lying?”
He stared at you, long and hard, before shaking his head. “No, I suppose you aren’t,” he admitted.
“There’s that then,” you said. “Now, I will need to ask the three of you some questions regarding yourselves, if you don’t mind.”
-----
The strange woman was first. You had been given a small shack to conduct your interviews out of, the woman stared at you from across the table, looking for all the world like she had somewhere better to be.
“Name?”
“Brunnhilde.”
“No family name?”
“I am a Valkyrie. I have no blood other than my sisters.”
“Right,” you said, “You lived on Asgard then?”
Her face took on a sour look. “A long time ago. I’ve spent the last few centuries on a different planet, Sakaar.”
You scribbled the information into your notepad. “What do you do then? If you were gone so long, why are you back with the Asgardians?”
Her chest puffed with pride. “I am to be the new King of Asgard. On the Summer Solstice we will hold a coronation. It will give the people enough time to accept the transfer of power from Odin’s bloodline to me, and for me to learn how to lead.”
You nodded and took note of it. “Congratulations,Your Majesty-to-be. I believe that’s all I need for now, but I expect we will see a lot of each other over the months.”
-----
Thor. The large man sat across from you, seemingly happy to be there.
“Thor Odinson, correct?” you asked him.
“Yes.”
“And I hear you're passing on the title of King to Brunnhilde?”
A dark look came over his face. “I have learned recently that my family has done many wrongs by Asgard. As long as I breathe, I will fight for Asgard and her people, but I do not believe it is my place to rule. Brunnhilde loves the people and has a talent for leadership. She will be a much better King than I.”
“A very noble decision, Thor. Thank you very much, and please send your brother in on your way out.”
-----
“Name?”
“I believe you know who I am.”
You sighed. “It's a formality, Mr. Laufeyson.”
“Friggason.”
“What?”
“I prefer Loki Friggason.”
You nodded, and made the necessary changes to his file. “Noted. Anything else I should know about?”
“Just a warning,” he said, leaning forward, his voice dangerously low. “I am the God of Lies. The truth is a luxury I will afford no one, especially your little government. The God of Chaos is an enemy you do not want to have.”
You raised an eyebrow, and wrote a single word in your file, exaggerating each syllable as you wrote it out. “Dra. Ma. Tic.”
Truth be told, you were a little scared, given this guy’s reputation, but you would be damned before you let your exterior crack.
Loki scowled. He seemed to do that a lot. “You mortals think you are so funny, do you not?”
You shrugged. “I’m delightful.” You slipped your papers into your file folder and stood up. “See you around, Friggason.”
You left, leaving Loki slightly aghast that you had managed to get the last word in.
-----
You walked calmly out of the hut, then quickened your pace as you made your way back to your van. Loki, as much as it pained you to say, had been intimidating, and your heart was beating a mile a minute.
You opened the door and climbed inside, shoving your paperwork into a filing cabinet, which you promptly locked. You turned to your computers, fiddling with the buttons, atttempting to establish your connection back to S.H.I.E.L.D headquarters.
"It's quite rude to walk out on a prince, you know."
You jumped and whipped around to see Loki standing outside your van.
"What the hell!"
"I said-"
"I know what you said, Your Highness," you interrupted. "But you scared the shit out of me. “
"Many apologies," he said as he hoisted himself up to sit on the edge of the van, his insincerity clear. "And I grant you permission to refer to me as Loki."
"How generous," you muttered, before going back to your instruction manual. Technology had never been your forte. You chose being a field agent over a scientist for a reason.
The both of you sat in silence for a while, you working slowly through the instructions that Fitz, a S.H.I.E.L.D agent much more qualified in machinery than you, had given you.
You glanced up at Loki, half expecting to see him sleeping against the van's frame, only to find his gaze resting on you.
"Can I help you?" you asked.
He just laughed a bit, like staring at you had been the most normal thing in the world. "I am watching you, Midgardian, lest you sabotage the society my brother is trying to build."
"I never took you for the loyal type," you said, putting away your things. "I'm gonna have to ask you to get outta here though."
“Why?”
You gestured to the twilight outside. “It’s late. I’ve had a long day. I’m going to bed.”
Loki strained his head slightly, attempting to peek into the van. “Where do you plan on sleeping?”
Not breaking eye contact, you grabbed a cord on the wall and yanked, and the rusty old pull-down bed flopped out with a loud groan. The rickety old thing was probably going to give you back problems by the time you were done here, but such was life. S.H.I.E.L.D.’s money was usually spent on more pressing things than upgrading amenities for field agents.
Loki’s nose wrinkled in disgust. “You are not sleeping in that. We’ve built a larger house for Thor, Brunnhilde, and I. You’ll stay in one of the guest rooms there.”
You shrugged. “It’s not too bad out here.”
“Mortals,” he said under his breath, almost indecipherably, before speaking again, at a normal volume this time. “I insist. Whether I like it or not, you are a guest of Asgard, and you will be treated as such. Besides, that bed looks seconds away from collapsing.”
You nodded, trying not to betray your confusion at the combination of his kindness and rudeness. “Thank you, just give me a second to lock up.” You grabbed the pieces you had been fiddling with, then paused, your hand hovering over the satellite dish. “Actually, if you’re just gonna sit there, you may as well make yourself useful. You can teleport right?”
Suspicion crossed his face. “Yes?”
You held out the device. “Hop up to the top of the van, there should be a little cord. It’ll fit into this port here,” you said gesturing. “Plug it in for me, please?”
He raised an eyebrow. “You ask a god to do your bidding?”
You scoffed. “You’re not a god, you're an alien. And I just asked for a favor. You’re free to say no, but I’m exhausted, and as much as I would like to put off climbing on the roof off until tomorrow, I need to send a check in to headquarters ASAP.”
He begrudgingly reached out and took the dish and you watched as his form rippled green and faded away. You heard shuffling on the roof for a moment, then silence, before the Asgardian reappeared in front of you.
“If that’s all, Midgardian?” he said.
“Thank you, Highness,” you said, ignoring his tone. “And thank you for offering the room.” The monitor beeped a confirmation that your signal had connected and you punched in a code to let S.H.I.E.L.D. know you had made it to New Asgard. You grabbed the bag you had packed and hopped out of the van, waiting for Loki to follow suit before closing the doors and locking the vehicle.
You offered him your arm. “Shall we?”
He brushed past you, rolling his eyes at your mock-politeness.
“Alright then,” you muttered, “This is gonna be fun, isn’t it?” Taking one last look at the van behind you, you moved to catch up with the Asgardian walking briskly away from you.
-----
Loki had not been talkative on the way to the house, and after being curtly shown to your room, he quickly left. You had settled into a decently sized room complete with a desk and a small bathroom attached. Undoubtedly, the house was a far cry from an Asgardian palace, but it was much larger than needed for three, even four, people. Surprisingly, you got a sound night’s sleep.
You woke to rambunctious laughter, and, wiping bleariness from your eyes, got out of bed. You stood in front of a small mirror on the wall and attempted to make yourself look slightly less like you had just woken up. Moving to your bag, you put on clothes that were much more professional than the old sweatshirt you were currently wearing.
Finally satisfied, you stepped out of your room and followed the sounds of conversation into the kitchen, where you found Brunnhilde and Thor joking at the counter while Loki sat at a dining room table, reading a book.
Seeing you, Thor broke into a smile. “Y/N! Loki had told us you would be staying here!”
You returned the smile. “Thank you for letting me stay here, Thor. I really appreciate this.”
The large man set a plate heaping with food on the table and gestured for you to sit. You did, glancing at Loki as you took the seat across from him, but he made no move to acknowledge that you were there. Brunnhidle began to speak. “We will be building fishing boats today down at the docks today. Will you be joining us, Y/N? We could use an extra set of hands.”
You nodded. “I don’t mind helping out. I have a few things to take care of first, though, so I’ll meet you all down there.”
Thor clapped. “Excellent! We’ll make an Asgardian out of you yet!”
You laughed softly and finished your meal as Thor and Brunnhilde began to tell you the plans for the day.
------
After breakfast, you ran up to your room to grab your laptop and then met the rest of the group on the stairs of the house. “I’ll see you guys in a little while,” you said, waving while walking in the opposite direction.
Thor and Brunnhidle branched off from you, but Loki, still silent, walked beside you towards your van.
You looked at him quizzically, but he seemed to have no intention of indicating why he was with you, and not with Thor and Brunnhilde.
Finally, as you approached your van, you caved and asked. “Why are you with me instead of your brother?”
“I’ve consulted with Thor. I will be supervising you for the remainder of your stay here.”
You stared at him in disbelief. “I’m supposed to be supervising you guys!”
“You are a stranger,” he replied, “and there’s something about you that I don’t trust. I have harmed Asgard many times over, and I don’t intend to let you get away with hurting these people any more.” There was an edge to his voice, that you had to admit, scared you.
After a long moment, you sighed. “Fine. I could use an assistant, I guess.” Which was apparently the right thing to say, because it made him clearly flustered.
“I am no one’s assistant, I am a prince of Asgard,” he argued as you turned away from him, partially to unlock your van and partially to hide your laughter.
You hopped up into the vehicle and grabbed a folder and tossed it to Loki, who was still sputtering about his status behind you. “Scan those in, would you?” you said gesturing at a machine in the back corner of the van.
He huffed but snatched the folder from your hand and went to fiddle with the machine.
You glanced over. “Do you know how to use that?”
“Yes,” he snapped. “This is primitive technology compared to what I have seen in my travels.”
You shrugged. “Okay.” You turned to your computer and queued up a call to S.H.I.E.L.D. HQ. “I’m gonna need you to be quiet for a second,” you said, right before Mack’s face popped onto the screen.
“Y/N! How’s Norway treating you?” he said with a smile.
“Colder than I thought, but not too bad. They’ve given me an actual bed to sleep in. You really need to update the beds in these vans,” you joked.
“I’ll let the budget committee know,” he replied. “I trust Thor and Loki are being cooperative, then?”
“More or less,” you said before stepping to the side, putting Loki in full view of your webcam.
Mack’s eyes widened. The change was subtle, but you could tell he was surprised. “That’s Loki.”
“Yup.”
“In your van.”
“Yup.”
“Why?”
“His Highness has deemed me untrustworthy, and decided I need a chaperone.”
“Right,” said Mack, suspicion in his voice. “Well you know the drill. Weekly check-ins, and don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any problems,” he said, looking at Loki.
“Gotcha, Mack. Talk to you next week,” you said, turning off the call. You turned to Loki, who had yet to even turn the scanner on. “You don’t know how to work that, do you?”
He glared at you and did not reply.
“Come here, Your Highness, I’ll show you. It really isn’t that hard.”
“You know the honorific loses its value when you say it so sarcastically,” he said, while watching your motions intensely, memorizing the steps to work the machine.
“Sorry, Highness.”
-----
The two of you walked down to the beach shortly after, meeting Brunnhilde and Thor at the docks. You were allotted supplies and miraculously, you and Loki ended up caulking the same boat.
Great.
The silence was deafening at first, until you decided to break it.
“You know I never would have assumed that someone of such status would be out here doing the dirty work,” you said, sarcasm dripping from your voice.
He grimaced. “I owe Asgard a debt. I intend to repay it, however I can offer service.”
“A very noble stance from Loki, God of Mischief.”
He grinned and looked up, meeting your eyes. “I find that one can be noble while still being quite mischievous.”
You felt your face heat up, and ducked your head, looking down at your work. He had smiled at you, for the first time, and what he had said had sounded almost like flirting. Why had that made your stomach turn in such a strange way?
“Oh my,” he laughed. “Seems that the Midgardian is finally speechless.”
“Just trying to hold my tongue around my betters, Highness,” you said, rolling your eyes. “Now let’s get to work before Brunnhilde has our heads.”
-----
Finally, late that afternoon, the work was done, and the New Asgard armada of fishing boats was ready for a celebratory launch. You and Loki stood in the crowd, watching Brunnhilde give a speech in front of the flagship, which really wasn’t much larger than the rest of the fleet. Loki leaned over and whispered to you, “You know, back in the day, the Norse would give a human sacrifice to the sea god to ensure safe passage.”
You wrinkled your nose, put off by the suggestion. “I think I prefer the more English tradition,” you replied, watching as Brunnhilde smashed a bottle of champagne against the hull of the ship.
Loki sighed. “Such a waste of perfectly good champagne.”
“I’m sure there's plenty more alcohol around here somewhere,” you said as you walked over to your boat, preparing for her maiden voyage. You hopped in and offered Loki your hand to help him in. He hesitated, but he took it.
“What should we name her?” you asked.
“What?”
“You know,” you shrugged, “We have to give our ship a name.”
Loki seemed to ponder it a moment before deciding. “How about The Midgardian?”
You put your hand on your chest in mock flattery. “Aww, you named her after me, didn’t you?”
He laughed. “It’s a fitting name. She’s lackluster and hardly even worthy of being called a boat.” His words were biting, and maybe you were imagining things, but you could have sworn you heard the playfulness in his voice.
You laughed and tossed him an oar. “For you, Highness.”
“Many thanks, Midgardian.”
The two of you followed the rest of New Asgard, rowing out to sea. Suddenly, you noticed a small sprig of water in the bottom of the boat. “Loki,” you said, the fear dawning on you, “I think the boat is leaking.”
He turned to see the small leak coming through the floorboards. “Okay,” he said, suddenly serious, “Don’t panic. Let’s turn around.”
You switched the side you were paddling on, beginning to move the boat in a circle. Before you could completely orient yourselves, the floorboards cracked, and a large chunk of wood detached from the boat. You yelped as the water came flooding in.
Loki swore. “Can you swim?” he asked you, speaking quickly.
You nodded. All S.H.I.E.L.D. agents knew how to swim.
“Then jump!” he said, and you did, without a second thought. Your boat was sinking fast, and there was no way you were going to make it back to shore dry.
You hit the water, and a second later, heard Loki behind you.
“Swim towards Thor’s boat, he can get us-”
You missed the rest of his sentence as you were pulled away from him.
You fought the current that had taken hold of you, but your panic was making things worse. In the confusion, you lost control, and dipped under water. The ocean filled your mouth. Breaking the surface again, you choked out most of the water, trying to stay calm and find a way out, but every second you were being pulled further out to sea. Falling under once again, you were prepared to accept your fate when a strong pair of arms wrapped themselves around you and pulled you into calmer waters.
You gasped for air as Loki held you against himself, allowing you time to recover.
“Wha- How did-” you began, once you could speak.
“Don’t talk, just breathe,” he said. “I am a god, I can overpower currents much easier than your mortal bodies can.”
“Thank you, Loki,” you said.
“You are welcome, Y/N.”
A larger boat pulled up next to you, Thor leaning over the side. “Brother, Agent Y/N! Take my hand!”
Loki helped you onto the deck of the boat before climbing over the side himself.
You flopped onto the deck, panting. “Rest in peace, SS Midgardian.”
-----
Later that night, you and Loki sat together watching the fire crackle. Thor had brought you a hot drink, and after plenty of fussing ensuring that you were okay, had left to do something leader-ish with Brunnhilde.
Suddenly, a loud scuffling at the door broke the silence and a series of thudding footsteps made their way toward you. Upon seeing your company, Loki sighed, exasperated. You turned and saw a large figure that appeared to be made out of rock alongside a smaller, insect-looking creature.
The large one began to speak, his gentle tone in contrast with his threatening form. “Hello. Um, I’m Korg and this is my friend Meik. We came to apologize for the whole boat thing. Thor put us in charge of wood collection, so it’s our bad, really. Sorry.”
“Oh, um, that’s alright,” you said, still processing the fact that there were two very large, very strange-looking, aliens in the living room. “You couldn’t have known the wood was rotting, and no one’s dead, so we’re good.”
“Alright, cool,” said Korg. “No harm, no foul, yeah?”
You nodded. “Yeah.”
“Right then,” he said, scooping up Miek. “We’ve gotta get going. Thor put us on clean up duty for the next week.”
“Thank you, Korg!” you called, but he was already out the door.
Loki let out another sigh. “Idiots.”
You turned back to him. “I had no idea there were other aliens here! How many species came with you?”
“Just Korg and Meik. And unfortunately, they are around a lot.”
You settled into your armchair. “I’m gonna have to document this.” But even as you said it, you could feel yourself drifting off.
-----
The next day you woke in your own bed, slightly embarrassed at the implication that Loki had carried you there, but he never brought it up, so neither did you.
The next few weeks were filled with collecting information and helping with the construction of New Asgard to fill the rest of your time. Always, of course, accompanied by Loki. In a strange way, you were becoming friends. The two of you never exchanged a single kind word, but your actions said otherwise. Before long, it seemed less like Loki was breathing down your neck and more like he was genuinely relaxing around you.
“Hey, Mack,” you said, beginning your weekly call-in, Loki now sitting beside you instead of hiding in the background.
“Hey there, Y/N. How’s it going, Loki?”
“Quite well, thank you, Director Mackenzie.”
You stared at him in shock. You had never heard Loki use honorifics for a Midgardian.
The rest of the call was uneventful, and as soon as you hung up, you whirled toward Loki.
“You were polite!” you said, your tone accusatory.
Loki sniffed. “I do have manners, you know.”
“You called him Director Mackenzie.”
“And?”
“And I can count the number of times you’ve used my real name on one hand. It’s always ‘Midgardian’ this ‘Midgardian’ that. You know Mack’s a Midgardian too, right?”
He rolled his eyes. “And you call me ‘Highness’ in that terrible mocking tone of yours. The disrespect is mutual.”
You sighed. “Fine, we’ll call a truce. I’ll call you Loki, you call me Y/N, deal?” You stuck out your hand, waiting for his response.
He seemed to be considering his options, before he settled on his choice. “Deal.” He grasped your hand firmly within his and shook it.
“Glad we’re on the same page, Loki,” you said, leaning back into your chair.
“What now, Y/N?” he asked.
You shrugged. “I dunno. Brunnhilde and Thor don’t have anything going on, and I’m done with what I need to do.” You started clicking around on your computer. “Wanna watch a movie?”
“I’ve heard of movies, but never seen one.”
“You’ve never seen a movie?” you asked. “I guess that makes sense. It’s basically just a recorded play. You’ll love it.” You pulled up a movie. One of the lesser known perks of working for S.H.I.E.L.D.: free Netflix. “This is one of my favorites,” you said as the opening credits rolled.
“I suppose you aren’t giving me a choice then?” he asked.
“Nope,” you replied. “Now be quiet and watch.”
-----
Later that night, you were in the kitchen with Thor, cleaning up after dinner. The two of you worked in comfortable silence until suddenly-
“Are you and my brother involved romantically?”
The plate you were washing fell into the soapy water with a splash.
“What?”
“I have never seen him willingly be around a person as he is you,” Thor explained. “And he has changed. He is happier than he was before Midgard.”
You shook your head. “He doesn’t- I thought he was just ‘supervising’ in case I tried to kill you all.”
“Hardly. The man just has no clue how to adjust to a more… domestic lifestyle. He wants to be around you, he just does not know how to express that.”
“Huh,” was all you managed to say, not looking up from the dishes.
Thor let out a small chuckle. “One day you two will figure it out,” he said so quietly you weren’t even sure he said it.
-----
More time passed, you and Loki still spending your days together. Before you knew it, the Summer Solstice was here, and you spent the morning preparing.
Rushing around your van, alone for once, you scrambled to get your work done quickly before Brunnhidle’s coronation began.
Finishing up you glanced at your monitor when you saw a message pop up.
Alphonso Mackenzie: I forgot to mention it in our call this week, but you’re coming up on the six month mark, and there seems to be no complications with Asgard’s transition, so we’ll be pulling you back to HQ. We’ll sort out the details in next week’s meeting.
You felt a sinking feeling in your chest, which was quickly replaced by determination as you began to type your response.
-----
You hurried to Loki’s side, panting slightly, making it to the coronation just in time for Brunnhidle to make her entrance.
“You’re late,” he whispered.
“Shh,” you said. “They’re starting.”
-----
After every great coronation comes an even greater feast, and the Asgardians spent the rest of the day revealing and celebrating their new leader.
Surprisingly, you had seen very little of Loki. That wouldn’t last long though, because as the sun dipped below the horizon, your closest friend in New Asgard appeared from the crowd and said nothing as he led you to a private space away from the partygoers.
“I’ve hardly seen you all night,” he said, as soon as the two of you had a moment of relative silence.
“I know,” you laughed softly. “It’s been strange to not be around you.”
Your smile fell and you looked up at him. “Look, Loki, I have some news, and I’m not sure how you’re going to feel about it.”
His expression turned serious and he led you to a small bench, where the both of you sat. He stayed silent, waiting for you to speak.
“I got a message from Mack today. They want me back in America.”
Loki’s entire demeanor changed. “What? You can’t go back. There’s still so much I- so much supervising to be done here.”
“That’s where the part I’m unsure of comes in,” you said. “I talked to Mack, and the specifics still need to be discussed, but if we can get agreement from all parties, he wants to create a new position at S.H.I.E.L.D. I’d be the first permanent Asgardian-Midgardian liaison that S.H.I.E.L.D. has ever had.”
His face broke into a grin and he clasped your hands into his. “That’s wonderful! Why would I have any problems with that?”
“You haven’t always been my biggest fan,” you said, nudging his arm gently.
He was silent for a moment, looking for the words. “Maybe not at first,” he began slowly, looking you directly in your eyes, “but now, I’d argue that you are closer to me than anyone else.”
You suddenly became all too aware of his hands resting on yours, and the closeness of his face to yours. “Loki…”
“I hate to admit it, but after a long talk with Thor, I’ve realized that I’ve grown quite fond of you, Y/N.”
“I guess I’ve grown fond of you too, Your Highness,” you said, smiling softly.
“Oh, Midgardian,” he said, unable to keep the laughter out of his voice as his face drew nearer.
You didn’t remember which of you closed the gap, only that it was the most magical kiss you had ever had.
Fear
— Levi x Reader
— angst, fluff, mention of death, cursing
— summary: Levi never let his fear get in a way of his decision yet for this moment he did
— word count: 2.8k
It’s that time of the month once again, when Squad Leaders were given a tremendous quantity of paperwork to be finish in an unfair amount of time, Levi is unexcluded to this time but even worse for his part. A list of cadets where handed to him early on.
The list consist of mostly from the 104th cadets and his eyes soften at the familiar name included on the list. (Y/n) (L/n). All your efforts and hardship within the past month has finally paid off, he knew about your unspoken goal of wanting to be part of his squad long time ago. He couldn’t be much prouder of you ever since, considering you to his squad would definitely increase his time with you, he can already see himself having you by his side.
Content with list of candidate given to him, he decided to set it aside as he move on to another paperworks, his calloused hand reaches to the papers near him. The thick cursive heading made his breath hitched
Certification of Death
It felt like a hard slap to him as memories of the recent expedition flash before him as he passed through the forest seeing nothing, but the bloody corpses of his members brutally killed by the Female titan as tried to protect Eren till the end.
Worries began to fill him, he couldn’t bear to see you in those situation, this is the only thing that matters to his life and one wrong situation can slip you out of his grasp in a matter of seconds, yet he couldn’t afford any distraction in the moment of the expedition as the lives of the soldiers lies on his own hands, reaching for the list of candidates once again before crossing your name before stacking another paper above the list.
“Levi?” the sound of his name being called out as the door of his office shut close, revealing his (h/c) haired lover “not done yet?” he shook his head, “I see” he notice the lethargic tone you release as you sat on his lap, wrapping your arms around him as you buried your face at the crook of his neck indulging on his scent. He lean onto his chair caressing the tresses of your (h/c) hair. “Did something happened?” he questioned, which you shake your head
“It’s nothing, I just want to ease your stress somehow” those words never failed to cause his heart to leap in adoration, he always thought there will be times that you would finally leave him seeing that he always lack of showing his affection to you, yet one year after \here you are showering him with affection at first, he would stiffen at the unpredicted kisses you place on his cheek during your private time until it become something that enlightens his sour mood daily.
Placing a kiss in your forehead, he wishes for you to forgive him for what he was planning to do. He could take all your anger at him if it meant to keep you alive by his side.
༺═──────────────═༻
The final members of Levi’s Squad was finally announced, the rush excitement you felt were shattered to piece as the roll out of names ended without getting your name called, the combination of anger, frustration and disappointment were enough to put you on the edge, clenching onto your fist as you tried to fight off the tears threatening to fall down your cheeks.
“Are you alright (Y/n)?” you heard your friend worriedly asked as you both head back inside the castle, snapping you out of your thoughts. “Yeah, yeah I’m fine” you immediately answered. “You should head first, I’ll catch up”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, I’ll see you” bidding a goodbye before heading to a certain office for explanation.
“Captain” you called out from the outside of his office, giving his permission for you to enter.
“Why?” The first word that left your lips were the conclusion of messed up emotion you were trying to endure. You knew that he knows what you were talking about, you know that he would be the person who gets to decide on the final list of the members.
“There are more suitable soldiers fitted in my squad”
“So, I’m not suitable for your squad. Is that it?” you hissed, how could he say that when he knew how much you work hard to be part of his squad
“Yes” you stared at him in disbelief as your whole body began to tremble holding yourself opening your lips only painful laughter were able to leave your dry throat, which surprised the man in front you.
“Fuck you, if that was the case you shouldn’t have gotten my hopes since the beginning, you shouldn’t have fucking care if I work myself up if that was the FUCKING CASE, WERE YOU LAUGHING JUST LIKE THEM WHEN SAW WATCH ME FUCKING STRUGGLES FOR NOTHING” you snapped out
“FUCK OFF, (Y/N) ISN’T THE ONLY REASON YOU WANTED TO JOIN WAS TOO HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO FUCKIN LAZED YOURSELF AROUND ME” He spat off, his mind was screaming at him to tell the truth already yet anything that left on his mouth is nothing truthful. He was spouting to stand for his decision. For a second, he tried to reason himself it was for you own good, it really is. Until his gaze returned back to you. He watched how tears drenched down your cheeks for the first time in his life he saw you cried. He could only stand on his feet frozen as you tried to brush off the tears blurring your vision.
“it was never about that case, I--” biting your inner lips, there’s no use for you tell him everything what’s the point of everything at this point, giving up. You only turned your back at him before shutting the door close.
As the sound of the door clicking shut was the only time he realized he fucked everything up, he wanted to follow you back yet he remained frozen on his feet, the silence on his office only left your voice echoing in his mind, every word you left a stabbing guilt and regrets on him. Was everything really necessary? For the sake of keeping you alive he had to hurt you in the process.
“were you laughing just like them” clenching his fist, how his way of showing his affection were seen in a different, only then he realized someone was thinking so lowly of your effort yet it only returned back to him knowing you think he was just like them.
A knock on his door, snaps him back to his thoughts. “What?” he didn’t bothered hiding his irritation to the soldier disturbing him “S-sir, Commander Erwin called you to his office sir”
“What do you mean my squad would be on standby? I thought we would be leading for the clearing up tomorrow?” Erwin sighed, it turns out only two squads would be leaving tomorrow to examine the behaviour of the titans before clearing up the titan near the wall.
“I see, then who’s squad would you be sending instead?” he asked, taking a sip on his tea, surprisingly glad he had a free time which he would dedicated on asking for your forgiveness.
“(L/n) William’s Squad”
༺═──────────────═༻
It was supposed to be a clear up for the remaining titans roaming across the abandoned city, only expecting atleast twenty or less titans left, yet when you encounter a horde of abnormal titans gathered in the deeper corner of the city, you knew this can be the last of something. Right now, the titan’s attention were averted from you with the quantity they had you wouldn’t be able to take them all with the lack of gas and blade, if you fire the flare gun to sign the soldiers around you, the titan’s attention would directly be place to you which would lead to the first option. Lastly, if you tried to escape you will most likely lead them to the other soldiers.
Not only your choices are limited but everything is too risky for you and the other members.
“Fuck this shit” firing your flare gun instead of pointing the gun at the sky, you fire the flare at the titans instead before releasing your hook leading back to where your squadmates are, in the center of the city you found a familiar figure the vibrant red covering him.
“William!” You shouted turning his gaze his eyes widen as you fired your hook on the concrete walls in attempt to carry him “Wait no! AT YOUR BACK” he tried to warn, before you can process his warning a giant palm slaps your body like a fly.
the impact of being thrown inside of a building breaking the window in the process, a static rings across your ears as every part of your body is throbbing in pain, opening your eyes only to feel a burning pain with a blurry eyesight reminding you much of the arguments yesterday, recalling back the words you let out that time. Maybe, maybe they were right,
“Just this last time, let me see them” you speak to yourself, trying to stand up every movement you make felt like you were being electrified in pain, stabbing your blade on the ground using it as foundation for your footing. Feeling the ground continuous shaking, losing balance, hitting the concrete floor hard, a sharp pain once again pierce through you, causing you to whimper in unbeknownst to you a sharp wood stab through your abdomen, leaving you crumbling in pain on the ground the sight of shards of glass soaked a puddle of blood. was the only thing you have seen before blacking out
I was never suitable to be here in the first place.
༺═──────────────═༻
Levi anxiously waited on his seat, no matter how much he tried to focus on the meeting between regiments he found himself drifting back to your situation, despite already reminding a soldier to immediately call him when your group arrived, yet several hours have passed and the meeting is already reaching its conclusion.
“Captain!! They’re here” A soldier barged inside the office, disregarding Erwin calling him out he wasted no time to leave the meeting,
“They’re at the Medical Bay for now.” the soldier reported,
“How are they?” he noticed the grim look on the soldier confirming his fear all at once
“one of the squad were completely leaving only one soldier in critical condition” dismissing the soldier he immediately head to the medical bay, every step he make felt heavy as if the world had collapse at his grasp. It wasn’t supposed to be like this.
“Levi” a familiar voice called out, hanji was waiting in front of the medical bay door, “Is she?” the jumbled emotion he’s feeling couldn’t continue the question he needed answers for, luckily Hanji quickly understand his struggles
“It turns out that there were more titan than what was initially reported, their squad had to face a horde of abnormal titans as we split up. We only found her inside of a building after a flare was shot. She was thrown by a titan trying to save her brother, a large wood pierce through her abdomen at the same time she already lose too much blood, the moment we found her” Hanji saw the grim expression from Levi, as he quietly listen the events that had happen, the fear, guilt, and regrets shown directly to his metallic irises. For once, Hanji saw a vulnerable side of Levi, a man so close losing a part of him leaving him once again alone.
A few hour has passed, when the door has finally opened as a doctor step out of the room, looking around the doctor only find him alone waiting.
“Captain Levi, are you perhaps the relative for Miss (L/n) (Y/n)?”
“Yes” leading him inside the medical bay, his eyes quivered at the sight of your figure wrapped in white pristine bandage up until your neck and another to covering your eyes. your pale like skin made it you look like “the progress of the surgery were slightly complicated due to the loss of blood but overall, the surgery was a success” Levi felt a relief wash over him, hearing how his lover is still alive felt like a heavy burden were lifted from his shoulder,
“at least that’s the good news, but the condition of her eyes had receive a different outcome”
“What do you mean?”
“Not only her abdomen where severely injured but also her eyes, shards of glass were able to damage her pupil that may became a permanent blindness, overall she needs to stay bedridden in three weeks before we can discharge her” the doctor explained, Levi remained stiff on his feet, his mind tried to comprehend the information given to him, blind? You wouldn’t be able to see anything from now on? You wouldn’t be able to see him?
Sitting beside your bed, his hand grasp to your bandage covered hand, entwining his fingers to yours, the coldness of your hands gave discomfort to his, it felt like he was holding onto a lifeless body the coldness of your body felt uncanny it might be because he was used to having your warm hands to his cold calloused hand. Pressing a kiss to your knuckle seeing the pattern of your chest rising and falling, was the only thing he need for now. Your alive that’s all that matters to him.
༺═──────────────═༻
Despite how much he doesn’t want to leave by your side yet with the constant nag from Erwin, it’s the third week you’ve remained unconscious, your temperature had increases in the spam of time yet it still frustrated him seeing no sign of waking up. He wanted nothing more but to hear your voice again. Placing a kiss to your forehead as he whispers his goodbye.
That was several hours ago, the sound of someone screaming from the top of their lungs had reached from the hallway he was in, either way he continue onto his path back to medical bay reaching closer the screams become clearer.
“IF IT WASN’T FOR YOU HE WOULD HAVE BEEN ALIVE” the woman angrily yelled out, nurses already had their hands around her preventing the woman from getting closer
“MISS PLEASE STOP SHE’S STILL RECOVERING” one of the nurses begged at the woman “NO LET ME GO” she demanded wanting to remove the grasp around her, she was able to pull you out of your bed earlier leaving you on the floor. Her hand was able to reach to your hair tugging it off roughly pulling you to her.
“WHY DIDN’T YOU JUST LISTEN TO US IN THE FIRST PLACE YOU WOULDN’T BE LEFT LIKE THAT?!”
“what do you think you’re doing?” Levi intervened slapping the woman’s wrist away sending a glare at the older woman while holding you at his arm protectively, the people The bandage on your eyes has already been removed, showing those eyes he long for were finally wide and awake.
“WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?! I’M HER MOTHER I KNOW WHAT’S THE BEST FOR HER”
“I don’t care, your daughter is already adult enough to know what’s best for herself. you two” he called out the two-soldier passing by.
“guide the guardian her way out of the castle” obeying the captain’s order, the two already hand their hand to the exit, waiting for the woman to follow looking back at the two of you, clicking her tongue in irritation before following the soldiers.
After your mother left, his attention immediately turned to you carrying you at his arms placing you back to your bed, no words were exchanged during that time. Hugging your knees, leaning your head at the top. He wanted to say something, anything yet he couldn’t bring himself to left words out afraid he might hurt you once again.
“Let’s end this here, Levi”
Levi’s eyes widened.
“What do you mean?” He mumbled, afraid his voice might cracked any moment.
“There’s no point on continuing this”
“How?” your hand clutches on the white blanket covering your lower half, holding back the tears from building on your cloudy eyes.
“CANT YOU SEE?! I LOST MY EYESIGHT I’M ALREADY USELESS AT THIS POINT” snapping at him, the frustration you’ve been feeling since the moment you woke up and being informed by your condition finally took its last trigger and burst.
“I’m sorry” feeling his warm calloused hand at yours “I thought removing you from the list would keep you safer than the circumstance we had. I’m scared (y/n), I cannot bear to see you the same position that my old squad had that time, you’re an amazing soldier. I never mean what I said before”
“It doesn’t matter now, I can’t be a soldier anymore” removing his grasp from you
“Please just leave”
vacation night
pairing: Benimaru Shinmon x f!reader
genre: nsfw (i really tried giving it a background, i really did)
warnings: spit play, spanking, slight dom/sub, breath play?, little degradation
words: 2.7 k
summary: working as a fire force officer you inevitably met and worked with the Seventh Company’s Captain and you grew a soft spot for him, so you went to visit him on your “vacations”
tam’s notes: it’s finally here, my first Fire Force fic. I knew as soon as I saw this man that I had to write for him. I hope my fellow Benimaru lovers enjoy reading this as much as I did while writing it.
tags: @writeiolite , @shinsotired , @loneveenas , @vventure
"Ugh, you here again?" Benimaru walked past you and his friend, with the twins behind him. "I'm not interested in what you have to say, so please leave."
He was already in the next room when he finished talking.
"I'm sorry, he's… stubborn," Konro explained.
"Oh, don't worry, Konro-san. I can assure you I'm even more stubborn," you laughed. "Do you know a nice place where I can stay the night? I won't bother him now, I don't want to ruin your dinner."
"We have extra rooms, you can stay here if you like."
"Thanks. I'll take a look around the city and I'll be back," you smiled at the gentle man that made you company until now.
You walked around the city, bought some candies and went to sit by the river under the moonlight. A few minutes later you heard steps behind you and a big arm brushed yours when a person sat by your side.
"Why are you still here? Didn't I make myself clear?" Benimaru couldn't understand what it was about you that made him nervous.
"I'm not here for official business," you explained.
You were sitting on a bench facing the river and the man by your side had his back facing the river. You couldn't quite see the other's face but it wasn't necessary.
"I might apply for a new company," you whispered.
"We don't take people outside Asakusa," he anticipated.
"You don't."
"I'm not in charge."
"I'll ask Konro-san then."
"Tsk," he clicked his tongue and sighed. "Why―?"
"I like Asakusa. I'd like to be away from the Holy Sol Temple for a while…"
"Take some vacations," he said as if it was the most obvious thing ever.
You burst out in laughter. You couldn't believe a man this powerful could be so dense sometimes.
"I'm not making myself clear, I see. I'm here for you.”
He sighed. He had his suspicions and he was right.
“I don’t have time for this,” he answered.
You stayed silent. You had your suspicions too. Benimaru Shinmon didn’t look like a man interested in a relationship or any kind of romance. He had his job and his kingdom. And he was satisfied with it.
“Try not to wake up anyone when you come back to the headquarters,” he said as he walked away.
You smiled at him and observed his shadow disappear in the night. It was ok, you weren't hurt. It was just a simple crush on him, not like he was the love of your life or something. He could be but whatever.
You waited a few long minutes to stand up and walk back to the Seventh Company headquarter. Konro left a note with the room he had prepared for you and a little map to not get lost or get into someone else’s room, all of them marked with an X. You walked there and stared at the ceiling for another long period of time. You weren’t getting any sleep that night, you just knew, so you decided to leave. But you couldn’t leave without any notice so you wrote a note for Benimaru and walked to his door ―which Konro kindly pointed in the map with a different mark― to leave it there.
Once there, the curiosity bit you. You couldn’t hear anything, not even the slightest sign of his breathing, so you slowly opened the door to get inside and deliver your note.
It all happened so fast. You barely saw a flash of fire and then a hand in your throat had you pinned against the wall, without making a sound.
“Easy there, destruction king,” you said. He had your throat in one hand and your hand with the note in the other. “It's just me.”
“I could’ve killed you. What the fuck―?”
“Just wanted to leave a note before going my way,” you interrupted, as calm as you could with him all over you. “I didn’t think you would be so territorial.”
“Do you know how many people have tried something against me? Sneaking here and shit?”
“Pretty sure after a few tries they learned their lesson,” you joked.
“Are you leaving?” he asked without letting go even a little bit.
“I had a nice stay here today but I have to go,” you shrugged.
“What are you even wearing? In the middle of the night are you gonna walk out like this? Without a uniform?”
“A dress. Civilian clothes, Beni, I'm on vacation, remember? You should try it sometime,” you said, the pressure on your neck a bit lighter. “You’d look good without―”
Without your uniform, that's what you wanted to say. His mouth was over yours before you could mock him one more time. You made him come closer to you with your leg around his waist. He let go your arm and neck to grab your legs, you held to his shoulders to jump and cling to him. His torso had you against the wall as his hands explored your thighs.
You didn’t waste a second thinking about how he rejected you a few hours ago. You couldn't focus on anything else but his hands and his tongue, that wet muscle that was now tracing the veins from your neck to your shoulder. You moaned as his big hands grabbed your ass as hard as he could. He walked to his bed and let you fall there, as if you weighed nothing. You gasped when you felt your body hit his mattress. He was taking off his clothes without getting his eyes off of you for a second. It was almost like a lion stalking his prey before jumping to its neck to end the job.
“You’re big under all those oversized clothes,” you commented.
“You talk a lot,” he said.
“Want me to use my mouth for something else besides talking?” you smiled, you put up the most innocent smile that you could in that situation.
He sighed and rolled your dress up to your waist to position himself between your legs. You rolled your eyes at him even when he couldn’t see you. He bit your inner thigh and you closed your legs on pure instinct. You tried to, at least, but Benimaru’s hands held your legs at a safe distance from his head as he kept going up your skin and finally got to the point. He kissed your clothed clit and his mouth went up to your pelvis and belly until he met your dress again. He clicked his tongue and stood up to take your dress in his hands and ripped it apart, like it was a buttoned shirt.
You opened your mouth to complain but all you left out was a moan when you felt Benimaru’s mouth over your nipple. You tangled your hands in his hair and you were surprised by how soft it was. You threw your arm down between your bodies and took his erection on your hand to jack him off. He was… huge. Just like everything else on him, he was big and intimidating. His broad shoulders and chest, his big hands that could easily cover your whole face in one touch, he was just so powerful and big.
“What’s wrong?” he said and stopped to look at you. His different eyes looked at you through long locks of hair and even in the dark you could see a little blush on his face.
“Nothing,” you cleared your throat and moved your hand again before spacing out in your thoughts again.
Why get lost in a thought if you had the original one all over your body and kissing you in that same moment? You pulled his hair to hear him make some noise one more time, just in case you were dreaming. He growled when you moved your hips up and grinded your wet underwear against his bare dick.
“Just fuck me already, Beni,” you whispered on his ear as you tried to get rid of your underwear.
He helped you to get it off and then step back to admire your naked form on his bed. He also set your panty on fire, as if that little piece of fabric just did the most unforgivable thing to him. You giggled as you bent your knees and spread your legs open for him. He stood right in front of you again and took two of his fingers to his mouth and then to your pussy. You wiggled your hips at his touch so he rested one knee between your legs and put his other hand around your neck to try to keep you still.
You held to his bicep with both hands ―yes you needed both to get a hold around his arm― and moaned. You moved your hips desperately, silently begging for more. Without letting go of your throat he took his dick and teased your entrance, going up and down with his tip full of precum.
He could tease you like this the whole night just to watch you squirm and whine under his hands. But the reality was he wanted to fuck you just as much as you did. So he finally gave you -and himself- what you wanted. You arched your back at the feeling of him stretching you. Even with all the teasing and preparation you still needed a minute to adjust to his huge erection. He could be a bit rough with you but he still waited for you to signal him to keep going and when you squeezed his arm he took it as his signal.
He started thrusting slow, taking his time to see his dick disappearing between your folds. Once he had enough of that hypnotic view, he pushed himself balls deep into you, like his life depended on it. The pleasure clouded your mind, you had no space for something that wasn’t him right now, nor mentally or physically.
“Oh god fuck,” you whispered when he threw one of your legs over his shoulder and started thrusting in a new position.
You couldn’t hear anything besides his heavy breathing, your moans and the constant skin-against-skin sounds. He pulled out and bent down to kiss you again.
“Turn around,” he ordered and you obeyed without a thought.
He slapped your ass and you screamed as you shut your eyes. You couldn’t hear him or see what he was doing so the expectation only added to your arousal. Then you felt his palm again on your skin and your pussy clenched around nothing.
“Again, p-please,” you said.
He chuckled and obliged. Your ass had three red marks with his hand shape and he felt proud of it. He used his fingers on you again as he kissed your spine up until he finally reached your head and whispered in your ear.
“Do you like it when I’m rough with you?” he asked. His deep voice made you feel like you were dreaming.
You nodded with desperate energy. You just wanted his dick inside you again, stretching you so good it almost hurted. And as he could read your mind, he kneeled behind you and used his hands to elevate your hips and thrust again into you. Seeing your ass hit against his pelvis was a glorious sight, he could feel himself on the edge of an orgasm just with it. But he couldn't do that to you. He took a fistful of your hair and pulled back so you couldn't muffle your moans with his cover anymore.
Beni fuck, holy sun and derivatives were the only things you could say between your moans and screams of pleasure. He slapped your ass again with all his strength when his thrusts became sloppy. Sweat dripped from his face to your back and tears of pleasure threatened to fall from your eyes if he kept that monstrous rhythm while ramming into you.
"This is what you wanted, right? Why don't you cum so I can see how bad you wanted this?" he said and slapped you again.
You moaned his name and your arms gave up to your weight and the strength of Benimaru's thrusts. He used a hand to touch your clit and rub it. That was your limit. Your climax hit you and you couldn't even keep your hips up, you collapsed on the bed as the man behind you observed as you struggled to catch your breath. He pumped his dick a few times before he started grinding against your ass and sucking bruises on your neck and shoulder, holding his weight with his hands on both sides of your head.
You felt cornered, trapped under his body and his dick still grinding between your ass cheeks, but you wanted more. So you asked for it.
"Such a good subordinate," he said as he made you roll on your back again.
He took your legs and threw them over his shoulders as he aligned his cock with your pussy to thrust again. He spit over his dick and your clit before starting to move, massaging over your sensitive organ to make you clench on him as he moved forward.
"Fuck," he hissed. He was balls deep inside you again but he didn't move this time.
You whined at the feeling of his cock stretching you again. It almost hurted, to feel him fill you like that and not move an inch.
He was biting his lower lip. You tried to move and he held your hips to make you stop.
"What's the rush?" he whispered and you were on the verge of tears again.
He knew what was the rush. He felt it too, your walls clenching on his dick, your legs trembling on his shoulders with the denial of pleasure.
He sighed. He couldn't keep his façade much longer, his balls ached for release. So he moved again, back and forward, hitting your cervix each time. You screamed and cried, it was too much. First nothing and then too much at once. You had your second and faster orgasm of your life. Benimaru lost it too, finally giving his body release, filling you up with his cum. He stood still again, feeling your pussy frantically clamping on his dick as your climax went down and your legs shaked still over his broad shoulders.
When you could breathe normally again he pulled out of you, cum dripping from your cunt and his dick to the bed.
You observed as he walked outside naked and came back with towels. You sat on the bed as you could, your legs were still shaking. Benimaru helped you to get up and cleaned you before taking off the covers and sheet of his bed.
"You shouldn't walk around naked, what if someone sees you?" you said. What if someone heard us, you thought.
"My room is the only one occupied on this wing, no one's around," he answered. "You can still stay here tonight."
"Here in the seventh or…?"
He didn't answer but he threw you one of his giant shirts before putting on some underwear and walking out again to get clean sheets. You walked out to the bathroom next to his room to wash your face and body. You would have marks in a few hours on a lot of places. You took your bag that was forgotten in the hallway and rushed inside his room again, you were still ashamed that someone saw you.
Benimaru was already sprawled on his bed, semi-naked and with one arm stretched to his side. You took that as an invitation to use it as a pillow as you laid by his side and tiredness finally took over your body.
When you woke up, Beni was gone. You assumed he was already working. You got dressed and you were ready to leave (again). When you walked outside, hoping no one was around, you were met by a soft oh that scared you.
"Konro-san, good morning!" you nervously smiled.
"Good morning. Did you enjoy your stay?"
You couldn't tell if he was joking or not, but you decided it was the latter. He didn't look the type to laugh at a nervous woman.
"I did, thank you. Your map was really helpful," you tried to joke now. "I have to go now, sadly. My vacations will be over soon."
"Come to see us whenever you like, I'm sure Waka will be pleased," he smiled.
"Thanks, again. See you next time," you said and walked away after slightly bowing to him.
Confessions
MICHE ZACHARIAS X SHY CADET
Miche finally tells his crush he likes her. That's it
Miche watched her from Erwin’s office as she left the headquarters to enjoy a well-deserved break. The evening sun highlighted her brunette curls, stopping just below her delicate shoulders. It was a shame really, her hair used to touch her waist when she first joined. She was so incredibly shy and anxious back then, struggling to find her place among younger people that were much stronger than her. He remembered back when she declined the promotion for the sake of her happiness. It had been 3 years since y/n joined the survey corps at the age of 20. She was a late beginner, but her analytical skills, a fateful emotional meltdown and a background in research had soon gotten her a place under section commander Hange. Y/n was not good as a fighter, but she was observant, more than Erwin and Hange. Miche could not help but notice her, she was cute after all. She had flaws, just like everyone else, but the veteran soldier was drawn to her in particular. He couldn’t remember when he felt like that for the first time. Maybe it was when he saw her for the first time, clutching a soiled handwritten application and trying her hardest to put on a brave face. Who knows? Who cares? The important part was that he liked her, she did not know and he was not going to tell.
“What are you looking at Miche? “
“N-nothing, Erwin. Go on…”
Miche went back to focusing on the meeting. y/n had already disappeared in the next lane, so there was no point looking outside. The meeting would go on for hours, as usual, veterans had no holidays.
Meanwhile, y/n made herself comfortable near the quiet riverbank. It was one of the few attractions in the little land of Paradis, especially after the fall of Wall Maria. The serene river glowed red under the now darkening sun rays. Y/n had about 30 minutes to draw something, after which it would get too dark. Problem was, y/n had no idea what to draw. So she just sat there, wondering about her life. It seemed self-indulgent to refuse work only to get out and ponder about herself, but she needed it. The chaos inside the headquarters hardly did her any good. She wanted quiet and peace, but what she had right now was just pure loneliness. Y/n had friends, but nobody close or free enough to sit under the open night sky. So she sat all alone over the wall, the cold breeze ruffling her hair. If only there were someone to hold her.
“Bottomline, all of you must prepare your squads for next month’s expedition. We can’t afford to compromise manpower. Pay attention to the weak members, we need them to come back alive. You all are dismissed.”
Miche walked out of Erwin’s office and went straight to his room that he shared with Dieter, another squad leader. He felt tired, as though he knew what was about to come. A lot of action and a shit ton of casualties, not to forget all the rigorous training he was about to deliver on the cadets.
“What a long day..”
“Tomorrow’s going to be longer, Ness.”
“Yeah.”
“Do you think you will make it through the expedition?”
Miche scrunched his nose at the odd yet totally reasonable question. Him and Dieter served the scout regiment since their teenage years, yet they never quite got used to the anxiety before impending doom. Against his overbearing stress, Miche gave him a positive answer hoping to lift his spirits.
“I will make it out alive, Ness. The most damage I will end up with is a lost limb, after which I will retire and live a peaceful life. Don’t worry.” Miche finished with his signature scoff, masking his true emotions. The shameless, pretentious display of cockiness was all worth the little chuckle from Ness, the most sociable, tender man among veterans.
They made their way to the dining hall after chit chatting and freshening up. Their tables had the usual serving of bread, soup and vegetables. His eyes scanned the place for the owner of those beautiful, crazy curls, y/n, she should have been back by now. He couldn’t see her anywhere. Usually it was so easy to spot her in her corner seat. Perhaps Hange assigned her some work, but he couldn’t risk revealing his crush by asking the overly-energetic squad leader. So he quietly finished his plate, feeling just a little hint of emptiness because he missed y/n.
“Nifa, find y/n and tell her I want her in the lab tomorrow at 6am sharp.” Mike overheard Hange speaking from a couple of tables away.
“Yes captain.” Nifa quickly finished her meal and left the dining hall and eventually the headquarters. Her face made it clear that she had done this several times now and Miche was not surprised. Y/n was often in her own head and stayed out for a long time. Miche just found it unusual for her to stay out this late. It was cold outside, no person in their right mind would stay out past 8pm. He wished he knew what was going on inside the girl’s head that made her personality so withdrawn, but he did not have the time. He needed to draft a schedule for this week’s training and tests for the cadets. Just the thought of sitting in an office doing paperwork with a candlelight flickering throughout the night made him feel calm. He was extremely skilled on the field, but he liked doing paperwork too. His studious side was something only his immediate squad and other veterans were familiar with. Sometimes he couldn’t help fantasizing about sharing his study with y/n. Aside from his feelings, y/n had the brains to draft a perfect test that tapped into all the necessary skills for the next expedition. After all, that was what she had been doing before joining the survey corps, albeit in a different field. Miche stopped in his tracks as an idea struck him. He felt dumb, so dumb. He had drafted so many tests, all by himself, fully knowing that there was someone that could probably do it better than him. Fully knowing that y/n had been a psychology student, and she had perfected the theory subjects after joining the survey corps. He turned around and approached Hange.
“Would you mind if I borrow one of your soldiers for a while?”
“That depends, Miche, who are you talking about?”
“Y/n, I need her help drafting the tests tonight. I think she can do a good job.”
“You are right.. I’ll let her know.”
“Tell her to be in my office by 9;30 tonight.”
Miche left for his office to begin work, he wanted to finish as much as he could before y/n showed up. Because work was not the only thing he was concerned about. He knew exactly what he was doing, it was dubious, but he needed to do it. It was funny how a few hours ago he thought he’d never confess his feelings, but later created an opportunity to do that exact thing. He couldn’t believe himself.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was 9;30 sharp, and Miche heard a soft knock on his office door.
“Come in, it’s unlocked, and take a seat before me.” He said without lifting his head.
Y/n made herself comfortable and glanced over three open books and a single page. Miche was writing down questions.
“Alright y/n, I need your help drafting the question papers for tomorrow’s tests. Of course, you will be exempted from actually taking the test as a reward.”
“Understood, sir”
“Good, now I want you to create 30 questions that combine the concepts of formations, weaponry and strategy. Make them difficult, and make sure to base it upon the last 5 expeditions.”
“Alright-”
“You have 2 hours to finish this.”
“Okay..” y/n walked over to the bookshelf and grabbed a heap of books. Miche raised his eyebrows in confusion,
“How are you going to refer to that many books and finish it within time?” Miche questioned her.
“I will, don’t worry.” y/n’s sudden confidence took him aback.
“Well good luck.”
Time flew by quickly as both of them were engrossed in their work, the only sounds coming from the candle and turning of pages. It wasn’t peaceful to be precise, y/n was turning pages with such aggression it made the section commander steal glances at her. She would flip through the pages and write down important points, constantly checking the time as she worked. Her handwriting got messier as time flew by and Miche couldn’t help but notice. He could tell that y/n totally had the plan to give those cadets a hard time. She had a weak, but cocky smirk the whole time, and Miche was just glad that he was not one of the people that would need to take the test. He knew that expression and aggressive handwriting very well. She always wore that smirk while writing exams, and everytime she came out on top. Miche knew she was overcompensating for her sub-par physique and iron-deficiency that interfered with her ODM skills, but that semblance of confidence on her face always turned him on. Her hair was still messed up, she struggled to keep that twisted fringe out of her face.
“Where’s the ruler?!” Y/n asked loudly, shaking Miche out of his trance.
“Wait…” He fished out a ruler from the clutter in his drawer and handed it to y/n.
“What are you drawing?”
“A wrong diagram of the latest formation.” Y/n replied curtly.
“I see.. Good.”
Miche was organizing his drawer after finishing his work when y/n handed him the tests. It was 11;30 sharp. The ink had somehow gotten between y/n’s fingers. Miche went through all seven pages of three extremely complicated tests and shot a glance at y/n, who looked like she was awaiting his praise. She was sitting with her back straight, wide eyed and messy hair. Miche chuckled, and y/n smiled. She knew she had done those cadets dirty with her questions.
“You have a naughty side, don’t you?” “Kitten” , was the term Miche refrained from using at the end.
Y/n nodded with a cheeky grin. The section commander squinted and got up from his chair, towering over her. A faint blush crept over her cheeks as she broke eye contact with him, staring down at her feet instead. Her delicate shoulders now looked tensed up under her transparent, embroidered shoulder shawl. The pile of paperwork didn’t allow him to notice her beautiful blush pink dress. She had embroidered little flowers to accentuate her figure all the way down to her hips.
“You look beautiful in that dress.” Miche blurted out, causing her to blush harder and breathe unevenly.
“Thank you, sir..”
“Look at me when you speak.”
“O-okay..” she slowly raised her head, still not wanting to make eye contact.
“I will be straight to the point y/n… I like you, not just as a comrade.”
“Understood.” y/n was taking quick, short breaths, causing the tall blonde to get on his knees. She had gone back to her timid mouse state and he could no longer read her.
“Are you scared right now?” Miche tried hard to not sound like a creep.
“No, I like you too!”
“That’s -” he began to speak but got cut off.
“More than a comrade, if you were wondering…” she trailed off shyly. Miche kept staring at her, dumbstruck at her honest confession. This whole time he had no idea about her feelings.
"When were you planning to tell me ..?" Miche asked, pulling a chair behind him. He was still leaning towards y/n with an expression of pure shock.
"I… Never planned on saying anything." Y/n's expression saddened as she looked at him with her doe eyes.
"I can understand.". he was telling the truth. The realisation that their confessions were a result of his impulsive decision dawned on him. He couldn't take his eyes off her form. She looked anxious, fondling with her pendant in one hand.
"Do you want to take this further?" Y/n asked with a shaky voice, and his answer was immediate.
"Yes."
She looked straight into his eyes and smiled.
"Can I kiss you?" The 35 year old man felt like a teenager trying to walk on eggshells. The woman before him giggled and nodded in approval, finally lifting her hand from the pendant. She was starting to settle down, although the butterflies in her stomach made it difficult. Miche was about to lean in when she stopped him and got up from her chair.
"I forgot to lock the door." She said naughtly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Okay, I really wanted to turn this into a smut, but I am too chicken. 🙈🥺
TikTok Trend: #ItsSettled
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader, Billy Russo x Reader
Word Count: 1653
Warnings: Angst, language
Summary: Work at Anvil yields results and dangerous temptation.
A/N: Divider by @whimsicalrogers
TikTok Trend Series Masterlist
You sit across from Billy in his office and prop your feet on his desk while giving him a shit eating grin.
“So, what’s this offer, Mr. Russo?”
“Consulting on an as needed basis for training, security, so on.” Billy’s dark eyes stare into your own.
Despite feeling insulted, you keep your expression benign. You had expected a job offer and had planned to counter with consulting. “I told you, my consulting fee is hefty.”
“That’s not a problem. Plus, I don’t think it's the right time for you to be leaving the Avengers and I think you feel the same.”
“Mind reader now, are we?” You smirk.
“Not usually. There are so many things going on here and with the Avengers. I think you’d like to keep a finger in both pies for the time being.” Billy returns your smirk.
“I don’t fuck my employers. Mixing business and pleasure only causes trouble.” You counter.
“That’s disappointing but, as much as I’d like to take you to bed, you’re worth more to me as an asset.”
“Then it’s settled.” You stand and shake Billy’s hand. This was going to be fun.
--
A few weeks into your consulting position and you had already improved several of Anvil’s procedures. Billy was quite pleased with your progress. You had earned his trust, proven your loyalty, and was now a trusted member of his team. He had fed your disdain for Steve and Tony, as well as the entire situation with Bucky. He hated the Avengers and was glad to bring you into the fold.
Finished with running a training exercise that day, you had just dismissed the team you were working with when you felt a breath fan across your neck.
“Watching you take down men twice your size almost makes me regret employing you.” Billy says. He often flirts this way.
You lean back into him and look over your shoulder, “But then your business wouldn’t be running so damn smooth.”
“And my cock wouldn’t be so achingly hard all the time.” Billy whispers in your ear.
“Mmmm,” you release a small moan and rub your hips against him, “then may I suggest a cold shower?” You laugh as you pull away and finish stowing gear.
“Fucking tease.” Billy chuckles.
“Absolutely.” You smile as you unzip your tac suit just enough to give a peek of your breasts.
“I have a job for you.” Billy’s voice is gravelly.
“What would that be?” You hop up on a crate to sit. Billy immediately positions himself between your legs and cages you with his arms.
“I need some intel.” Billy states while bringing his lips to your neck.
“On?” You lean your head to give him access.
“Carl Creel.”
“And who is he?” You whisper as Billy’s lips travel up and down your neck as he speaks.
“A bad guy. I just need some info on him. Stark and SHIELD have dealt with him in the past. I believe Stark even ran some tests on his abilities.” Billy’s teeth scrape against your skin deliciously.
“And how, mmmm, how am I supposed to get that to you? Everything is encrypted and shielded from leaving the Tower.”
“Put it on this thumb drive and hand it off to Benjamin Poindexter in R&D. He works for Stark and can get it out of the building undetected.” Billy says.
You pull back and look at Billy, “Will it piss Tony off if you apprehend this guy?”
“Immensely.”
“Consider it done.” You grin.
--
You head to a meeting with the Avengers team, but when you get to the meeting room, a different one than normal, the door is locked.
“No electronics. All devices must be checked.” FRIDAY announces. A drawer pops out of the wall. You place your phone and tablet in it and turn expectantly to the console. “Your watch also, Agent.” Friday pronounces. You roll your eyes before removing the watch and dropping it in as well. The door buzzes and you are finally allowed entry.
“Good, we’re all here.” Steve says from inside the room.
“What is this room?” You ask as you look around at Tony, Steve, Natasha, Bucky, Sharon, Sam, and Artie.
“It’s entirely shielded. Nothing electronic can get in or out. No cameras, no audio, nothing.” Tony smirks. “Since we know who our mole is now we can’t have this meeting in the conference room.”
“So, we can say or do anything in here without it getting out?” You ask to be sure.
“Exactly.” Tony says. “We need to make plans.”
“Yeah, yeah. One minute.” You say as you walk to Bucky. Jumping into his arms, you crash your lips into his.
Bucky’s chest rumbles with a chuckle and once you pull back he grins, saying “Hi Doll.”
“Hey baby.” You whisper against his lips.
Steve clears his throat loudly causing you and Bucky to laugh.
“Shut it, Punk. We haven’t been able to even be in the same room for weeks. Give us two minutes.” Bucky grouses at his best friend.
“Yeah, yeah, I know. Sorry.” Steve says.
“I still don’t think the two of you dating is the best idea.” Artie pipes in. You and Bucky both flip him off while sharing another kiss.
When you finally separate, you turn to Sharon, “Hey, friend, how are you doing?”
“Good. Been dating a really sweet guy, but I think he’s interested in someone else.” Sharon winks at you.
“Thanks for doing this. I know the publicity wasn’t really what you wanted.” You say.
“Just one of those things. I don't mind you owing me a favor.” Sharon smirks.
“Actually, the polling on you two dating is extremely favorable, Agent Carter.” Artie announces.
“Artie, shut up.” Steve says as he puts an arm around Sharon. “Hi Beautiful.”
“Hi.” Sharon whispers sweetly to Steve.
Artie groans, “Oh, this is going to be a nightmare.”
You laugh, “No wonder you weren’t so keen when I suggested Sharon date Bucky, Captain.”
Steve looks at you with a little pink tinging his cheeks and shrugs.
You remember the meeting that started this all:
“How bad is this?” Bucky asks.
“I don’t-” your phone ringing cuts you off. Looking down at it, the dreaded name appears, Tony Stark. You look at Bucky as you bring the phone to your ear. “Tony?”
“Both of you, conference room, now!” Tony demands before hanging up abruptly.
“It’s bad. Conference room.” As you make your way to the door, Bucky interlaces his hand with yours, pulls you back for one last kiss, and then leads you out. As soon as the conference room door closes, you eye Tony and Artie Pithins, Director of Public Relations.
Artie looks disdainfully at your joined hands and says, “This ends now.”
“Cam down, Artie. I know this looks bad but we can fix it.” You say.
“Friday, black out mode. You’re supposed to be single. We needed to release the story and make you look bad for this to work.” Tony throws at you.
“This can work out to be even better. Hear me out.” You insist.
“Doll, what the hell is going on? What are you talking about?” Bucy says.
“A mission.” You say.
“We believe we may have a mole and very few people know the specifics of this mission.” Artie says with arms crossed.
“And why would you be in on it?” Bucky asks Artie.
“Necessary optics for it.” Steve says as he enters the room.
“Look, bare minimum, we believe there is a mole working for Billy Russo, owner of Anvil. I was supposed to have some bad PR leaked about me and make it look like I was on the outs with the team in order to get him to try to recruit me.” You turn to the rest of the group, “This can work out even better, I think. Instead of me causing trouble, I could be heartbroken. Hell hath no fury, right? It would make sense that I’d be willing to turn against the team over that and I throw in a few anecdotes about the tightass and the playboy running the team and I’ll have him.”
“Tightass?” Steve grouses.
Tony rolls his eyes at Steve before turning to you, “How does Bucky break your heart?”
“That video will go viral,” Artie chimes in. “It’s bound to, with her popularity and people’s curiosity about Sergeant Barnes. But if, that same week, we see him out with another woman. Say, Natasha? It would play all over the tabloids.”
“Natasha won’t work, Artie. Everyone knows she’s my friend and they’ll see it as a publicity stunt. I think there is only one person that could raise the profile enough.” You look at Steve.
“No.” Steve shakes his head.
“Sharon is perfect. A few dates, some PDA, and then an appearance at the party. It’ll be sold.” You argue.
“I agree.” Artie says.
“Wait, you two actually agreed on something?” Tony looks between you and Artie, the animosity between the two of you well established.
“First time for everything.” You say.
“Why does it have to be Sharon?” Steve says again.
“Because it’ll cause an uproar.” You nearly shout.
“What is happening right now?” Bucky puts his head in his hands.
You look at Bucky and cups his face, “I’m so sorry. I couldn’t tell you about this mission. It was very hush hush. I need to be single to get Billy’s attention. I’m his type and as the newest member of the team he’ll see me as being vulnerable to being turned.”
“This is bullshit.” Bucky says.
The next hour is spent making plans. Bucky is furious at the thought of you dating someone else, but understands the mission comes first. Everyone leaves the conference room worse for wear but with the mission intact.
Now that the mission is nearly complete, you look to your team. “Well, now that we know who the mole is, how are we handling it?”
Title: First Day
Summary:
“You usually don’t take time off,” Levi commented.
“I know."
“So why are you taking time off?”
“It’s our kid’s first day at school,” Hange responded in the most anticlimactic of manners. Yet, the knowing grin in her face didn’t fade.
Hange and Levi deal with their child's first day of school in different ways. Written for Levihan Week 2021, Day 1: School.
Levihan Week Day 1 Prompt: School, organized by @levihanweek.
This is kinda late because the past few weeks have been hectic but I've been trying to get back into writing regularly again since the long break I took after completing Lovebug.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy!
Most mornings, Hange was out the door at six in the morning. Sometimes ten minutes after, sometimes five minutes after but never anything more than that. It was always a loud grand exit accompanied with footsteps, a clipped ‘see you later’ and a loud slam of the door.
So routine that Levi would never look back. That day was a little different. Ten minutes past six and it was utterly silent. The absence of such a loud and chaotic goodbye seemed to leave a more deafening echo.
Deafening silence, or the absence of what had been usually there, wasn’t the type of deafening that rang in his ears. It was the type of absence that seemed to tickle at the back of his ears, awakening a fighting instinct that had been long asleep. “You’re still here?” Levi asked.
She was quick to reply. “I asked for a half day at work today.” Quick and very casual.
“Oh really?” Levi responded.
Hange had always told him the day before if she were taking a leave. That day, such a small detail sent some alarm bells ringing inside him. He looked back to see Hange deftly flipping through a newspaper with just one hand, taking bites of bread with the other. “Yep.” She didn’t seem at all in any hurry to look up at him.
Levi narrowed his eyes at her, wondering if that was enough to make her feel any obligation to meet his eyes. It wasn’t. The newspaper must have been a very interesting subject. “You usually don’t take time off,” Levi commented.
“I know,” Hange said, her tone unchanging.
“So why are you taking time off?” Levi felt slightly ticked at having to articulate the question. It just wasn’t the natural flow of their conversations.
Hange chose that moment to look up, a wide grin on her face, a knowing grin. She put the newspaper down, took another bite of bread and her chews were larger, seemingly more exaggerated. She had a special talent. If she actually tried, she could hide what she was thinking even from someone who had known her more than half their life. “It’s our kid’s first day at school,” Hange answered in the most anticlimactic of manners. Yet, the knowing grin in her face didn’t fade.
Levi raised one eyebrow at her. He set aside the cutlery he had been organizing and settled in front of her. He took a slice of bread from the plate in front of him, bit into it and flashed his partner an expectant look.
It wasn’t every day Hange was there at half past six on a weekday and she looked like she was completely aware of it. “How do you feel about Luke’s first day?” she asked.
“All kids go to school. This isn’t really a big change,” Levi said in between bites of bread.
“Really? Not a big change?”
Levi paused for a second. It wasn’t a big change. That is, if he didn’t count the past few days spent looking through rows of school bags at the shop, if he didn’t count the daunting process of organizing stationary while just relishing the unnatural feeling of expensive school supplies to the touch. The underground city didn’t really have a lot of schools and consequently, Levi never had to worry about such a luxury growing up. “Luke will be in school so more peace and quiet.”
The conversation was surprisingly slow. The air between them seemed louder and seemed to be circulating a little faster than usual. It was a loud silence only broken when Luke came barging into the kitchen, big bag precariously propped on his back.
Levi was suddenly aware that he was taking his sweet time speaking and Hange was letting him.
The young boy gave him more than enough of an excuse to avoid that awkward silent interrogation. “Luke, what the hell is in your bag?”
“First day!” Luke said, in some attempt at protest maybe.
No, it was a protest definitely as Levi had made it his mini mission for the day to untangle the straps from under the young boys arms.
There was no way in hell he was letting his child go to school with such a disorganized death trap. The bag was comically round, stuffed to the point that pencils and markers were sticking out in weird places.
A chaotic mess. A death trap waiting to bite or more specifically, crush him.
There was still some attempt by the young boy to inject some organization into it. The stationary was organized in clusters. The crayons bunched on one side of the bag and pencils on the other. There were folded papers stuffed in the middle of the paper, and some snacks were stuffed towards the bottom of the bag.
“Luke, I told you, you can bundle your crayons like this.” He had gotten a rubber band and twisted it around the crayons and pencils, once then twice.
Levi was bringing out the items in bunches, lining them out on the table then stuffing them into the bag again, that time with a little more regard for aesthetic and functionality. Levi was creating shapes, very convenient shapes and he had made a puzzle out of the whole process of organizing a three year old’s school bag.
When he was done, all the supplies only occupied half the bag. He gestured at the organized bag in the same way he did every other time Luke would watch him clean. And the latter nodded understandingly, the same way he did every other time before. Enough for Levi to know, the boy had at least taken note of half the cleaning process.
That exchange between father and son was very much routine. Since the child was old enough to talk, Levi had taken great pains to teach the young boy organization. Sometimes though, there were hiccups in the whole process of teaching. And during those hiccups, Levi was reminded, Luke was Hange’s child too.
Suddenly curious about her reaction, Levi turned to his Hange. The latter was still sipping coffee as she watched. An amused look was etched on her face. “If you ask me, I think he did a pretty good job fixing his bag.”
***
Levi didn’t know he had been waiting for a climax until he found himself very disappointed at the denouement.
It just seemed too easy and Hange just seemed too happy and too laidback. By the school gates, they separated with hugs, some pieces of advice dumbed down for a three year old. Hange was usually the more talkative one but Levi found he was the one asking more questions, saying more than necessary.
“He’ll be fine, you know,” Hange said, her voice firm, her look almost admonishing.
Levi froze. He had only become more hyper aware of his uncharacteristic chattiness when Hange pointed it out herself.
I packed you a sandwich… I’ll pick you up at two… If you wanna go home early, just tell the teacher okay?
Were those words unnecessary for a kid? But Luke had to know right? Or at least his teacher? “Maybe we should talk to the teacher,” Levi suggested. "Just so they know us and they won't hesitate to contact us if—"
Hange shook her head. “He’ll be fine,” she said. “Look, he’s ready to go in already.”
Luke wasn’t crying. He wasn’t begging them to leave him alone. In fact, he had only turned back at them, waved one hand and shouted ‘bye!’ when he was already a good few feet away.
“Okay, I guess he’s fine then,” Levi said. If Luke and Hange both think it’s fine… He spun around, his back towards the school and he let out a stifled breath, some release for that disappointment and tension that had been raring to ooze out since that morning.
“I said, he’ll be fine,” Hange repeated. It was starting to get annoying.
“I knew that,” Levi retorted.
“Doesn’t look like it.”
Levi shot her a venomous glare. “Okay, if you knew he’d be fine, then why bother taking a half day off from work to see him off?”
“Cause I was guessing… someone else wouldn’t be so fine,” Hange responded.
They had turned the corner from the school gates, to a narrow road a little emptier. Again, there was that knowing grin on her face and her face was only inches away from him. Consoling? Mocking?
No, it was definitely mocking. “Oh, who are you talking about?”
Hange didn’t respond. She looked away, just making it more apparent that she had been staring right at him.
“Who are you talking about Hange?” Levi pressed. He wasn’t stupid. The answer was right in front of him. But was it an answer he wanted to accept?
“I called a half day off from work. But I’m planning on going to the office today and working for an hour or so. Why don’t you come along? You should say hi to Armin and Mikasa, it’s been a while since you talked to them,” Hange said.
“I have to pick up Luke—”
“At two right?” Hange asked. “We won’t be in the office that long.”
“I need to prepa--”
“Prepare what?” Hange challenged. Her voice was firmer. She was walking ahead with longer strides, towards the path to her office, only a convenient few minutes away from the school. “You’re gonna be alone in the house you know.”
Alone in the house. Being alone wasn’t too big of a deal. Levi had lived alone a few times when he was in between roommates at the barracks. As captain, he conveniently got his own room. That felt like a lifetime away though.
The past few years were easier to look back at. When Hange was at work, it was usually just him and Luke at home. Then and there, just the thought of being home alone had sent some strange feeling through him.
A very strange sadness. A very strange loneliness.
A sudden need to turn to Hange and maybe confide for a little longer. Besides, it isn’t everyday Hange is giving you this much attention. Levi reminded himself.
“He’ll be fine,” Hange said again. “Going to school’s just part of growing up.”
“It is.” Levi admitted. “I think I just need to be a little sad about it.” He deliberately softened his voice then to something just loud enough for Hange to hear.
Annoyingly, her smile got wider, her eyes were larger, as if she was looking at a specimen and he was her specimen. “I knew taking a half day off would be a good idea.”
