Do you think that Charlie also undergoes retconning/revision as the series goes on? In Twilight he seems somewhat distant but still buys Bella a truck, worries about her, etc. By Eclipse he can't work a microwave and is (at least through Bella's PoV) an unreasonable brute of a man. Do you think that Meyer needed to make Charlie more distasteful to the readers so that Bella essentially abandoning him (and Renee) wouldn't come off so cruel/harsh? Or did she just evolve the character as she went to mesh better with New Moon and Eclipse, even when those new character traits DON'T mesh well with FD/BD? Charlie was still in Bella's life in FD and presumingly Nessie was also still named Carlie as well.

Charlie is interesting because if you think about the idea that it was originally just Twilight and Forever/Breaking Dawn, Charlie seems to exist mostly so Bella can move to Forks and be largely unsupervised. I mean there's a story there about a girl reconnecting with the father she barely knows, but that's not the story SM is interested in and for the most part is not the story she is telling. I'd argue the movies made a bit more of an effort there, or at least Billy Burke made people care about Charlie. I don't remember people being all that invested in him when it was just the books, but movie!Charlie is largely beloved.

But yeah I think a lot about Bella's homelife is the way it is so that choosing to become a vampire doesn't seem so terrible. If she were close to her parents, if she had siblings, hell if she had any actual human friends she cared about, that decision would be a lot harder to make and there would be consequences, things she had to give up. But she doesn't really have anyone. She likes Angela well enough, but doesn't spare her a second thought after the wedding. Her grandparents are dead, no cousins or aunts or uncles. No friends back in Phoenix. Just Charlie, Renee, and Phil. And she gets to keep Charlie and doesn't seem to care about Phil at all.

I think some of the problem with Charlie is that SM was going for humor. Similar with Renee, I never really believed he didn't actually know how to cook. I assumed it was Bella exaggerating for effect. I didn't actually think Bella was paying the bills and doing the grocery shopping at 10, either. But then we get Charlie not even knowing how to boil pasta or not to but metal in the microwave. Like he hadn't lived on his own for nearly two decades, like he hadn't cared for his parents? It's just "haha look how clueless he is!"

I do think his disdain for Edward is largely justified, though, given what he actually knows. The "break-up" after the baseball game where Bella ran back to Phoenix and ended up in the hospital, and then her depression when he breaks up with her again, then her disappearing for three days because he needed help. Yeah, I'd think this guy wasn't good for my kid, too. But because it's a romance and Bella's the narrator, she paints him as unreasonable and Edward being a saint for putting up with it.

I don't think he was retconned as much as Renee; I think they both started off as well-meaning but comically helpless/clueless and that Renee took a darker turn whereas Charlie may have benefited in later works from how beloved movie!Charlie is.

- Emma and Hina r boring and used as romance plot devices it’s okay to admit that Wakui can’t write women idk I don’t expect shounen/men to be able to write girls well (still cried when Emma died tho bc she didn’t deserve it!!!)

- lol I LOVE Yuzuha and Senju tho

- I actually do like Emma and Draken together but I also firmly believe Draken is in love w/Mikey and was just projecting onto Emma LMAO

- Controversial: I don’t think Shinchiro was THAT great of an older brother. Like he was cool but he still introduced Mikey and Izana into the world of gang life/normalizing violence and yeah OG Black Dragons isn’t like that but….what do u expect when u form a gang??? .obviously there’s a high chance that it’s gonna develop into LEGIT gang activity

- As an adult and someone who was basically raised by an older sibling w/a big age gap (my sis is 7 years older) I kinda don’t blame Takeomi for being a bad older brother??? Realistically he’s a 17 yr old in charge of raising 2 toddlers like NO SHIT he did a bad job. At least Shin had his grandfather to help out but Takeomi actually had no one. - Tbh if the dark impulses/Shin thing wasn’t real I would’ve firmly believed Mikey had DID or something. Which again made only worse by the fact that violence and death is such a regular thing in his life (GET THIS MAN THERAPY LIK WTF IS SHIN AND GRANDPA SANO DOING???)

- Kazutora going a lil crazy is lowkey expected and I hate how we only find out about his home life in the character books. - I don’t ship Mikey and Takemichy (despite the IMMENSE gay ness btwn them) firmly bc I think everyone can see how much power Takemitchy has over Mikey idk it has a weird power dynamic like if Takemitchy tried he could 100% control Mikey (platonically or romantically)

- Baji, Chifuyu and Kazutora r a throuple

- I HATE how Sanzu is reduced to this crazy drug addict. Sanzu is canonically smart, manipulative, and formally trained fighter. He also REMEMBERS the OG timeline, he had to experience Shin dying twice and everyone else die no shit he’s a little bonkers/needs drugs to take everything away. You stretch your arms over your head, happy to finally be in a bed that wasn’t on a ship or a sleeping bag on the ground. You unstrap the holster where you kept your blaster and toss it to the side, snuggling further into the scratchy sheets below you. 

You can hear Cal talking to Greez just outside of the door, their voices low and serious. Usually you’d be more inclined to listen in and jump in to protect him, but you’re so tired tonight you can’t bring yourself to care. 

He’s a Jedi, he can take care of himself. 

It’s been a long day and all you want is to fall asleep, your head starting to drift away. You’re interrupted when the door slides open with a clang and the frame of the bunk bed rattles. 

You can hear Cal groaning below you, sprawling out on the lower half of the bunk beds. BD-1 hums in agreement, probably making himself busy scanning all of the stuff in the room. 

You fall into an uneasy sleep, tossing and turning within the small bed frame. It doesn’t last very long though, because you hear a small yelp that has you sitting up so fast the world spins. 

You can hear Cal whimpering below you, feeling the movement of him on the bed beneath you. He must be having a nightmare—an all too common occurrence over the past few years. You slide out of your bed as quietly as possible, wool socks sliding against the floor. 

You sit on the edge of his bed and run a hand across his forehead, smoothing his red hair back. After travelling together for so long, you’ve learned to read him in a way no one else can. 

You wrap your other hand around his, thumb stroking the back of his hand. “Shh, it’s okay Cal. You’re safe here. I’m with you, it’s okay.”

The crease in his eyebrows eases and his lip stops quivering. You sigh in relief, leaning in to press a soft kiss to his forehead. You’re not sure when this started, this uneasy relationship between the two of you. 

It wasn’t one born out of want, but out of necessity. You needed to keep each other around to survive, and the amount of times you’ve cling to each other in the dead of night were immeasurable. The amount of times you’ve fallen asleep in his arms, on his chest, bodies pressed so close together you’re not sure where he ends and you begin. 

You go to stand up, ready to head back to your own bed, but his hand catches your wrist. “Where are you going?” He mumbles. 

“Just back to bed. I’ll be right above you, Cal.”

His green eyes soften, “lay with me?”

You sigh. You can never resist his boyish charm and he knows it. That’s how you end up climbing into bed with him, laying on your side so you can face him. “Did you have a bad dream?”

“Just the usual,” he admits. “Thank you for being here.”

“For you? Always.”

He wraps an arm around you, tugging you until your chests are pressed together and all you can smell and feel is him. His hand runs up and down your hip, tracing patterns on the fabric of your shirt. 

He rolls onto his back so that both of you can be more comfortable and your head falls naturally into the crook of his arm like it always does. You can feel the muscles beneath his shirt, feel the rise and fall of his chest. It’s all so familiar to you. 

He kisses the top of your head. “I love you, y/n.”

Your heart flutters at the words, and you tap the syllables onto his thigh as you repeat them back to him. “I love you,” you whisper. “I love you.”

For the past few years, you’ve travelled the galaxy. You haven’t had a home, nowhere to settle down. But laying in bed with him right now, all you can think is that your home is wherever Cal Kestis is.

Looking back at my 2021 tok rev Tumblr post i was damn right my gut feeling about shinichiro sano being more deeper than just Takemichi Hanagaki spiritual successor. I love Wakui when he add that shin twist. God even back then i was always read dark shin fic i was FEEL right about this guy doing this stuff if he is push to far and I was dang right. Oh god. He need to a reason to continue and Manjiro is his reason. Take that reason away and he will be next villain of the world. Plus with how much responsibility he have to endure in short time and losing her mom and Manjiro in original timeline in short span of course he lose it. Plus there is a factor of grandpa sano being the kind of Japanese guy who doesn't seem to interested in talking with his grandson mental health. And a passive way he let Shin taking part in delinquency too factor in. I guess also because we don't see any Sano relatives who can support the Sano siblings if the Grandfather die. God. The amount of pressure on Shinichiro is tremendous. He is the one line of safety after his grandpa death and god this seek blood family even though he love Emma and Izana. His dedication to Manjiro is everything. Everything.

Also, your post in black dragons real life counterparts open my eyes. It is intentional. And the Shin we want to see is the same depressive fate Mikey have in canon. Honestly, reaching the Original Timeline, I wonder how many ppl still see Takemichi and Shinichiro are Basically the Same because they aren't. At least, we never saw Takemichi fall as deep as Shinichiro did. Plus, there's the fact one of Shinichiro's most important trait is being a (parentified) big brother and Takemichi is an only child.

He loves Emma and Izana, of course he does, but Mikey was there before Shinichiro lost his parents and had had to say goodbye to his normal life. Emma and Izana came afterward. There's only Takeomi and Mikey left from his (I assume peaceful) childhood.

Sometimes I think about how Shinichiro only left BD for Mikey to take over when he'll be old enough, and that it weirdly seems to coincide with the year their mom died and really, Shinichiro can go back to civilian life and being a shop owner, but without Mikey he wouldn't have. There's about half a year between their mom's passing and Mikey's accident and like... I think that, BD was such an emotional support for him during his teen years that he would've handle those four years better if they had remained together. If he had decided to fully go back to it (or to never leave) - and not just do shady things by himself - he'd have lived a more stable life - they'd have helped him sm - although Mikey would've still died (and Shinichiro would've probably met the same end since he can't accept loosing his younger brother).

Like you, I want to break him. I really want to observe how he act when he's fully broken; the manga didn't give us enough. He decided to name his gang like that when Mikey was still okay, that's a good clue to know he was already messed up from the start.

I have way too many fics to write and none near finished, but yeah, everyone (progressively, confusingly) remembering about their other lives in the final timeline is really, really tempting to write. They all (rightfully) freak out and Takemichi and Mikey really, really don't want them to remember but they have no power over it.

I saw a recent ask and got curious and went back to read what everyone was discussing and saw people mention TaeTen. I wanna put aside any speculation of anyone's sexuality to say something. Do you trust that what we see on camera is everything about their lives? Because it isn't. The polaroid was a mistake. Ten never *showed* it. It was caught by fans in the background of a very good 4k cam. It was a private part of his space that he didn't realize he filmed(and never made that mistake again), where pictures of his family were, along with a Gengar figurine right next to it (Taeyong has posed with a Gengar recently and Gengar-Kitty art). Ten is a private person. Also, you say he only talks about Johnny. Since when? When was the last time he did? Cricket noises. And if Ten did like Johnny more than a friend, would he have mentioned him as a "bro" best friend in the past? (Always "bro" just like he talks about Mark). Or would he have kept it a secret? There is a good reason TaeTen is the biggest Ten pairing in Thailand, Ten's homeland where his most dedicated fanbase is. They pay more attention to Ten and how others and SM treat him than anyone else. They keep closer tabs on him than us. They know more than us. Ten has multiple friends he's never seen interact or mention much. And that's true for all neos. Taeyong and Yuta are very close friends but the fandom narrative is DoTae are the besties, when it's Yuta who kept close to Taeyong while they toured LATAM. Who entertains him enough to pose with Taeyong shirtless and probably took the pics so Taeyong could show off his new tattoo of two cranes, an animal who form long monogamous relationships with their mates. You are right to say that there is life behind the cameras and that the relationships portrayed before the camera are not always exactly how they are in reality. Idols need to demonstrate good relationships, be able to work together even if there is tension, or, other way around, pretend they are not as close as behind the scenes.

However, another member of the same group is not a non-celebrity friend. And bts videos and variety shows are not scripted controlled interviews. Taeyong can like this pokemon, Ten could have introduced the pokemon to Tae and persuade him to like it or inspire him to take pictures of it as "hey, this figurine reminds me of you, friend". Again, it is not a 2+2=4 "they are in love".

Where did I say Ten only talks about Johnny? I said when NCT meet for projects, we see more of JohnTen than TaeTen.

Cranes mean longevity, purity and peace in Korea. Johnny and Taeyong both have swallow tattoos, which JohnTae shippers interpreted the same way you did with cranes and TaeTen.

This is the tattoo you are talking about. It can be number "6" in Thai script, or it can be entirely something else. The second symbol is not a Thai number or a letter. You didn't even investigate how the tattoo looked like, just latched on the "in Thai language". Mind you, the squiggles are beside a tattoo of a swallow, and Ten is "kingfisher".

You are talking about informed conversation but mention the same "signs of TaeTen" that anons advocating for TaeTen brought up in the past. Which, I think, is a mistake.

Ten is in WayV, however, Taeyong is in 127. A profound change in him or his relationship with Ten, will have a ripple effect on his relationships with other 127 neos (Johnny-Ten-Tae dynamic, for example). The same way JaeDo getting together had a huge effect on DoTae and JaeYong and brought a change in Yuta and made Woo stop with his "confident gay" game towards Doyoung.

“We’ve known each other for a thousand years” ok I think we all expected this but confirmation is always good. Anyway yeah this at least means Port was around before his official founding (again, seems obvious but confirmation is always nice.) And so was Toni.... I wanna know more about Toni!

More importantly, I really like how Hima presented Port here. It makes sense that with their history, he’d be suspicious/not entirely willing to trust Toni at face value. “Oh our websites say this? Lets put it to the test, then, show me how much I should trust you” is very much something I would expect from him, because their history is complicated.

It also seems clear to me that he doesn’t expect Toni to get the first question right. Hell, he’s surprised at how quickly Toni agrees to it. (Yes there’s the olive oil, but I think this also shows Port that Toni is confident about his knowledge of them)

 But Toni’s answer!!! My god.... not only does he get it right right away, he adds a bunch of more information regarding other cooperation dates. He also looks absolutely adorable and very pleased with himself.

Again, Port is surprised at Toni getting it right AND how fast he answers it. He’s clearly caught off guard by this. He even admits that he expected Antonio to struggle with it. And I think you see a genuine face from him (Hima has mentioned in the past that Port’s smiles are very much thought out!)

 And what does Toni do? HE REASSURES HIM!

He reassures Port that he would NEVER forget these days, that they’re important for the both of them.

And Port wasn’t looking for reassurance, he just expected Toni to struggle and not know, because that would confirm his opinion of his neighbour AND be funny to watch. This is the most flustered you see him in this comic, when Toni smiles like that at him saying he would never forget things that are important to them both.

He wasn’t expecting such a peppy reaction, and it looks like he doesn’t want Toni to misunderstand his words as wanting reassurance, either. “That’s not the kind of reaction I was askin’ from you.”  And Toni says “I see...”

“I see...” What do you see? That he doesn’t think you’d know this? That he doesn’t want your earnestness reassurance? Why was your first reaction reassuring him so earnestly....

I think it’s also important to note that Port likes to see Toni down (which I attribute to him projecting his own insecurities. Yet here is Toni, being cheerful....) And another side of it could be related to the fake bravado he accuses Toni of having in a previous comic. Maybe he’s trying to get behind Toni’s smile?

Once that moment is over, the sparkles and fake smile come back. Because he knows Toni will have trouble with the next question!

Honestly the bd/sm joke is funny as hell, and I’m glad Hima’s back to zany hijinks. But more than that, I really like the glimpse we get into Port and Toni. 

I really do think this comic goes a long way to show his suspicious nature, and his distrust of Toni because of their history. I mean, he basically spells it out for us with the “we’ve know each other for 1000 years and been at each other’s throat more times than I can count/just because we’ve been cooperating for 50 years doesn’t mean...” etc.

And I wonder if he set it up like this as a self-fulfilling prophecy. Like, if you wake up strapped to a table and get told if you don’t answer right that someone will pour olive oil on you, you’d be disinclined to being buddy-buddy with them, you know? Port has set the most hostile scenario for Toni to get him down, but Toni stills BEAMS AT HIM while saying he’d never forget those dates.....and Port is so taken aback by it.... Port just accept his feelings are real

And Toni gets more confirmation that he’s SMART. He’s SMART!!!! If I recall correctly, much of his air-headedness is by choice, because he chooses not to read the room. We already knew he’s smart, but my god... he’s competent too. He knows boring government stuff!! Am I thinking “he knows it bc it pertains to him and Port uvu”? Yes, yes I am. But even if it wasn’t, Toni would still know stuff if it’s something he’s interested in.

Again, this isn’t news. But it’s always nice to have confirmation.

To finish, Toni also clearly knows Port very well. Because despite his reaction, I think Port DOES need and want Toni’s reassurance that their relationship is important to him too. He won’t admit it, and he doesn’t need to, because Toni knows him that well.
