@inception30daychallenge, Day 31: A letter to Inception fandom.

Dear Inception Fandom,

Friends, I am Old. I have been around the block and back again. I am old enough to have read fanfic on the computers in the school library and printed out fics for my friends because they did not have computers at home. I read fanfic on dial up. I cut my teeth on fanfic on FF.Net, on AngelFire websites, and on AOL Message Boards.

I say this ONLY because I want you all to know How Long I have been in Fannish Spaces, and how many fandoms I have been involved in, so that you can believe me when I say: I have NEVER encountered a fandom like this one.

If you look at my AO3, you'll see that most of my posted fics are dated prior to 2010. I spent most of my 30s not being particularly fannish. I didn't post fics. Once LJ made the move to DW, I lost track of fandoms and friends (and never really grasped Tumblr, tbh), and whatever writing I did, I kept to myself. I thought I had lost the ability to get fannishly obsessive over a piece of fiction. There are a lot of Real Life reasons for this--jobs, health, family crap, mental health, selling my home and building a new one, working in healthcare during COVID... And I was put on a medication a few years ago that, it turns out, basically induced depression, but I didn't realize it until February of this year, when I stopped taking it.

It was like a switch was thrown in my brain, and I suddenly wanted to read fanfic and create again! It was great! And one day I was rereading old fics by a favorite author and thought "what else did they write?" and saw they had Inception fics. I thought "huh. That was a fun movie. It provided the premise for the very best RP game I've ever been involved in. Why not?"

As they say, the rest is history. I fell down the rabbit hole of Inception fanfics, discovered an obsession with Arthur/Eames, and dragged my bestie @nutterzoi down with me. I swear that in April, I watched that movie basically every other day for the entire month. And then we started writing fics. I have now posted FOUR Inception fanfics since the middle of June. With Zoe, I'm working on a Big Bang and on several other fics. We literally have a gdoc of ideas for fics because otherwise we will forget them all.

This is all great, Sara, but what about the fandom? Guys. Friends. Zoe and I have been writing fanfic together basically nonstop since before Y2k. We have not posted any of our fanfic since prior to 2010. UNTIL NOW. And the reason I am happy to write and post fanfic? For other people to see and read?? Is because of YOU, the fandom.

This movie is 14 years old, but the fandom is alive and active. Arthur and Eames have about 3 minutes of screen time together, but over 8,000 fics on AO3! @inceptiversary came along just as I was finding my footing here on Tumblr, and MAN, the things everyone has come up with for @inception30daychallenge just blow my mind! The creativity, attention to details, impressive meta and gorgeous fanart and graphics are incredible. Maybe some of the reasons this fandom is so calm and comforting is that I missed the early growing pains, but it is FUN to come into a well established fandom with so much to read and see!

But even more than that... this fandom is KIND, and WELCOMING. I point out again that I am Old. I have reached the point in my life that I do not want to spend time around people or spaces that are not comfortable, especially online, which is where I go for my escapism and fun. Every single person I have interacted with in the Inception fandom has been friendly and encouraging. I hope you all know just how rare this is for both a fandom and for an online space. THANK YOU for being so wonderful. In more ways than one, you have restored my faith in fandoms and fannish spaces, and in my place in them. I certainly hope you're all okay with being stuck with me, because I do not see myself going anywhere.

Thank you for giving back a part of myself that I thought was lost and gone forever.

Bee! Chloe is now called Honeycomb, post redemption she needed a new name, because she felt queen bee had to many negative connotations with her past

Honeycomb or Honey for short is a lot more mellow, willing to work with others more now. Doesn’t mean she won’t show off, she’s even more insufferable when it comes to impressing everyone

Chloe herself is more willing to bond with others now (she and luka meet up and chat shit for hours, her and Mari like to go shopping & chloe and Adrien have oboe and piano jam sessions)

Pollen & Chloe are still and always will be peas in a pod

Also she may or may not be dating kagami, they are push and pull atm

Zoe is still her anxious ball of fluff self

although a lot more confident now because they’ve all grown zoe still has a fear of fitting in with her new peers ( the guild and with her new friends!)

Roo absolutely loves their holder, she’s soft and kind everything the Kwami of comfort looks for in a human

Zoe knows Karate, she’s in the middle of a theatre course and literally balances being Lila’s sort of gretchen and her own person

Alix, Max and Kim share an apartment, well it’s mostly now just Max and Kim’s since Alix sort of hops from place to place

but they always keep her room nice and tidy for when she comes back and crashes. After all it will always be her home

Ondine and Kim broke up once they left school, but their good friends still! They don’t see each other often because she went to the us and joined a swim team there

Max is a programmer, he’s living his best life and kaalki adores him

honestly he’s vibing, until shit hits the fan and Alix gets hurt

(these 3 are my favourite trio tbh I need to write more for them)

Alya and Nino broke up too! They realised they were better off as friends and their whole pathways were drastically different

(also the two of them admitted their relationship was very much a teenage rushed love sort of thing)

They are like ultimate bros now (of course nino would never admit that to Adrien)

Alya works with Nadja, and is working on her biggest scoop yet

nino is balancing being an events manager and his uprising dj career

wayzz sometimes has to help him relax

trixx and alya just get into huge shit half the time

also this duo get up to all sorts when they are together, like digging up dirt sort of thing

Asmodeus was the first to approach you, running;

“Where are you going dearie?” He asks, clinging on your side.

You hand your key, and teleport back to Devildom, it took longer than usual but you shrugged it off.

As you stood in front of the house of lamentation, it somehow looked like it aged.

There was more overgrown vines, but you ignored it and entered

“I’m home! “ You yell out closing the door behind you

‘hmm, maybe they went out’ you thought

You pat your pockets trying to find you D.D.D, only realizing you left it in your room.

You quickly run up to your room to be greeted with a different look

Your bed was now covered in clothes with mismatched bed sheets, you look around the room to see everything changed.

Your bookshelf was now a desk, and your desk area was now an empty area filled with random junk.

“What the fuck?” You mumble to yourself

A loud scream was heard after something was thrown at you.

“OW WHAY THE FUCK?” You hold your head.

“WHO ARE YOU?” A female voice yelled

“NO WHO ARE YOU? What are you doing in MY room” you yell

“I’m Zoe and it’s not your room, it’s mine” She says crossing her arms

“Zoe, is there something-“ Lucifer’s words get cut off

“LUCIFER YES, can you tell this girl to get out of my room?” You ask him

There you were, standing in front of Lucifer, who kinda looked more unstable than before.

“If this is a shapeshifters sick idea of a joke, it’s not funny” He says anger laced in his voice

“What do you mean? What the fuck is wrong with all of you?”

“Get out. Whoever you are, get out. Diavolo will hear about this. He’ll hear about a shapeshifter disrespecting a dead friend of ours.” He grabs your arm and drags you out the house

“Friend? Lucifer what do you mean friend?”

“Get out. And shape shift back to your normal form. What you’re doing is disrespectful.” If looks could you’d be 6ft under

“shape shift? Lucifer you aren’t being serious right now right? What the fuck is wrong with you? I’m gone for a day and suddenly you don’t know me?” you snapped

Your words were ignored and a door slammed in front of your face.

“Fucking hell” you run your hands through your hair

“You can’t be serious, asshole! Open the door!” You kick the door, only to receive no answer

“Okay well fuck you too I guess”

At this point you didn’t know where else to go.

You walk around Devildom thinking where else you could go, while you are walking you notice a few stores changed.

Your beloved bookstore was now a restaurant.

Your favorite record store, where you used to shop with Lucifer, was now a fashion boutique.

You didn’t notice how far you walked, suddenly you were in front of Diavolo’s Castle.

While you were staring at the building in front of you, a light bulb turns on in your head.

You confidently walked in front of the gate, only to be stopped by a few guards who you don’t remember being there;

“You can’t enter”

“Why not and also who are you?”

“Not relevant. But you cannot enter”

You groan

“Oh my god look a trespasser!” You pointed at a random area

“We aren’t falling for that.”

“Nah bro I’m being real”

The guards looked at each other and immediately ran to the area you pointed in.

While they were distracted you teleported in.

It was like luck was on your side (kind of) you teleported in the throne room, where Diavolo was in;

“DIAVOLO! I need help- Lucifer is acting like he doesn’t know me and I’m a shapeshifter??? apparently-“

“Y/n? Is that you?” He asks interrupting your ramble

“Jesus Christ, yes it’s me, I am here. What’s with everybody today?” You question

“Y/n…” He approached you

“And also there’s some girl named Zoe in my room???? Like excuse me-“

“Y/n.” His voice demanded, hands on your shoulder

“Yes?”

“You’ve been missing for a year.”

“You were missing for a year, everyone believed you were dead.”

Recently after many months of not really knowing whether windowverse Kaine ought to be bi or gay or what I had a brainwave which is that, he's probably attracted to masculine presenting people in general, including men, butches and studs. it makes the most sense to me tbh, esp w/ his complicated relationship with his own body, masculinity, manhood, and sexuality in this universe (and 616, arguably). And also because in the comics, Louise was kinda butch or at least not super femme, and so is Terry, and Annabelle dresses however the hell she wants, including in men's clothes sometimes, so I was like. now. hang on. i'm sensing a pattern.

obv zoe and shannon are very feminine but the former is a stalker kaine seems to not actually want to be touched by and the latter was a mind controller so... you know.

really, in windowverse at least, a large facet of kaine's relationships and approach to sexuality is mostly built on this desperation to be loved and therefore taking whatever he can get... for the most part he's essentially doing this responsive, reciprocal thing in addition to trying to be a "real person" by trying to conform to heteronormative standards (but also rebelling against those standards at the same time, thus the skirt) — which is a lot of what his relationship with annabelle ends up being, and a cause of friction as well.

but the suit? actually hot to him.

as an aside wrt not being able to use the comics scene for AU kaine's life in houston crumbling apart: i can't make the Other work for that scene in windowverse specifically because in AU by Feb 2016 Kaine is in a position where if he is mortally wounded he will just die.

the Other happens (in October 2015) because Kaine is off his immune meds for a few weeks because he runs out and keeps putting off finding a new doctor etc. but anyway that means his fucked up (auto)immune system can do its thing and turn him into a monster after he's eaten alive by werewolves.

REALLY i actually don't know how long his immune system should take to start (over)working after he stops taking his azathioprine. Mostly i was like how long do t cells and other immune cells take to repopulate? and the answer is: i don't know. i couldn't find a good answer XD but I figure 2 weeks is probably fine............................? it's not like prednisone where he's technically withdrawing for like... 2 years.... (mmm steroids)

but anyway, in february he's had a new doctor for a few months and has access to all of his prescriptions again so like, spider monster ain't happening because he's immunocompromised on his meds— a state which simultaneously keeps his body from destroying itself but also makes him more vulnerable to dying from normal things. like infections. or bazookas.

i do think it would be fun drama if wally shot him though

I did not check other people's tumblrs for like a week and just caught up on all the Princess Bee stuff! Sorry for the anon shyness, but I have a couple of things:

1. You mind if I draw these suckers and send em to you? Cuz now I really wanna draw the next gen kids, Chester Fester, and timeskip designs for everybody.

2. Holy shit, this is a fun premise! I especially love that Chloe is a lawyer! Like, she'd be so good at it, especially with the way you write her (which is the default Chloe in my brain, tbh). You already have her run the merch department. Her dad is the freaking mayor, even if he is a bad one. She's already really good at knowing which authority can override what and when, she's good at working the system and knowing when it's screwed up, and she's got a helluva sense of justice after all the shit she's been through.

2. Some stuff with Lila: I know it was decided that she was gonna do a grand scheme where she got her petty revenge on Ladybug, but then Ladybug didn't show up after the first few akumas cuz the wish said so, and so she kinda just fucked off for a bit to do lowkey cons using the butterfly. When she sees the new EmmaBug, it brings up unaddressed trauma and she zooms back to Paris and starts being a Problem TM. But, like, what is actually her plan? She's going after the miraculous, but what does she want to do with them? What'll her wish be? I know she doesn't really care about the shit that went down with the Miracuclass anymore (she did get exposed). But she is still real bothered by Ladybug, but we also kinda established that she doesn't really know what she wants. So what are Lila's plans?

3. Thoughts on establishing a rogues gallery:

You said you wanted the main focus to be akuma, so why not have a handful of regularly occurring akumas instead of a new one every time? We've already got Chester as Lila's right-hand man, even if he is gonna be a bit of an inneffectual, comedic, Mr. Pigeon-esque akuma. Why not have Lila amass several other allies to regularly akumatize who want in on whatever she's up to. Lila can be very charming and has been doing on and off cons for like 20+ years. Odds are, she's met some pissed of people willing to do some shady shit to get what they want. Lila was also very much willing to use Chloe for her bullshit back in the day, so she could also maybe manipulate some people into helping her out, especially if you want more kid akumas.

I also think it would be cool if you had a handful of other "rogues" who are unrelated to Lila and aren't actively villainous so much as they are assholes that cause issues. Like, Chloe's enemies from lawyering, some of Jess and Zoe's problems from NYC, the creepy boy who was uncomfortably hitting on Emma and ended out getting Dawn landed in the principal's office in the first place, the previously discussed Chief of Police. Etc.

4. I really like the idea of the kids all being roughly the same age, but a couple years apart. It allows for shenanigans like Hugo and the other younger kids having an awkward gang of middle school pals who know nothing about this shit, shipping the heroes, writing fanfics, giving unsolicited bad advice, etc. And it lets some of the kids be older, more mature, more experienced, and act as mentors to their middle child leader. Kinda how Luka worked for the OGs, but you have more of them with different personalities. Kinda like how digimon adventure had the kids mostly the same age but a little spread out across a few grades.

5. Give Hugo or Louis the horse. That would be a really obvious one to take out for a joyride, and they'd get attached to Kaalki.

Ya girl has been rolling with a lot of depression that she doesn't realize is 'depression' because fuck man what does she have to be 'depressed' about? So she just feels like nothing is 'enough' to make her happy and must find something out there that can 'fix' her.

Seeing the 'Ladybug Returns' both kinda gets in her head of as much she acknowledges her grudge with LB was petty teen stuff, it is unresolved business. And that may make her feel better. However, barring that, the Wish would do whatever she wants. It could 'fix' her. Give her whatever she needs to not feel this hollow emptiness in her chest 24/7.

This is kinda random. But as a fellow Jason enjoyer and classic Doctor Who enjoyer. What do you think about the difference in narrative treatment and framing of Adric and Jason? They both got blown up (in the 80s) trying to do something noble that didn't really mean anything (the ship wasn't going to wipe out humanity/Sheila betrayed Jason to the Joker for trying to save her). Adric is characterized as not well liked by his peers and Jason is but post-mortem the treatment of Adric is very much a tragedy. They didn't feel a need to aggressively (pretty much every time mentioned) victim blame Adric (as far as I remember I haven't done a proper rewatch, outside of that one bad audio drama that I refuse to engage with) to justify future companions. Not even future teen companions. Meanwhile Jason was seemingly loved but post-mortem was incredibly disrespected and victim blamed by the people who allegedly cared for him. Most mentions of Jason were accompanied with an element of victim blaming.

Also interesting that in Doctor Who the Fifth Doctor thinks that Adric's 'deprived, delinquent upbringing' makes him naive. (There is logic to it. He would likely to be more used to desperate people than malevolent in his difficult situation. Also in this specific case, his trauma seemingly involving a lack of food the robot body no food requirement would make sense.) While Batman says Jason is destined to be a criminal and then characterizes his death as recklessness when there is actually a stronger argument for Jason's death as being the result of naivete. Him trusting in Sheila.

I have thought about Jason and Adric parallels! I'm not familiar with EU Adric content so I can't (yet) comment on it, but I will talk about how the show deals with it.

Adric's death isn't really dwelt upon as much as you'd expect. There's no "Lonely Place of Dying" arc for the Doctor, there's no spiral, he even directly says that Adric wouldn't want them to mourn unnecessarily (which I assume means get lost in grieving rather than meaning any mourning is unnecessary). This is partly because the show, at the time, wasn't really concerned with pulling at your heartstrings too much and following through emotional development plots. Sure, you'd get sad moments, but they wouldn't really deal with them properly after it happened (Katarina's death, Jamie and Zoe getting their memories erased, Turlough's suicide attempt, etc). It's also because the Doctor is a very different, and tbh more emotionally stable character. He's not preoccupied with his own grief or (at least in the Classic series) at risk of going off the deep end without people around to ground him.

Batman, by contrast, was originally more stable but as comics got darker when the Comics Code Authority's censorship got less stringent and writers also actively wanted to fight against the perceptions of comics as childish, he became darker and more brooding, so the writers actively wanted to dwell on traumatic moments where Fifth Doctor era Doctor Who didn't. So part of the reason we didn't get a victim blaming arc for Adric was because they just didn't talk about it.

And Adric didn't have a replacement character to take his role in the narrative. Sure, the Doctor got new companions but none of them took Adric's role. They weren't trying to tear him down to lift someone else up like "See, aren't they so much better at being Adric?"

So yeah, outside a few scenes, Adric doesn't get dwelt so there's no real opportunity for the writers to victim blame him post death, but Jason became a ghost in the narrative that haunted Batman, and a character for Tim to supercede, which gave them a lot of chances to shit talk him, which they did take.

Additionally, Jason got resurrected (which was a decision that wasn't made for his character but rather to create a new villain for Batman) so to justify this darker turn, they made a point of going "See, he was destined to be criminal. Here's all this foreshadowing." Well, it's less foreshadowing and more backshadowing since it was inserted after the fact. Adric doesn't have that.

There's really nothing to motivate them going "See, Adric was always bad and he's worse now." He's just a character that a lot of people didn't really like who's only really remembered positively in the context of his death. Which is apparent in Tales of the TARDIS where Five and Tegan can't seem to say anything nice about him.

FIVE: "He was so..."

TEGAN: "Oh he was a nightmare."

FIVE: "He was daft and silly and sulky and... He was just a kid."

I've talked before about how I don't like how certain DW writers will make the Doctor straight up unreasonable to his companions or overly mean, and how Adric was treated def falls into that sometimes. Like yeah, him and Five arguing over going through the CVE to get home in Earthshock is in character tetchiness from the Doctor, but Five calling him a naive idiot in Four to Doomsday without giving him a chance to explain himself (which you brought up, and I thought the writers had him side with the villain for no reason but you do bring up a good point about hunger, I wish his motives were more focused on in narrative and he was given more sympathetic characterisation) and Five berating him for losing control of the Total Survival Suit in Kinda was just unnecessarily mean to me and I think part of it was because the writers just didn't like Adric so the Doctor didn't either I guess.

This moment is another case of that because that's not how you talk about a teenager who died violently in an attempt to save people, one who was also smart and determined (along with his negative traits). The writers just don't seem to notice it as mean because they don't like him.

Which is more in line with how Jason is talked about post death. "Yeah, we don't like him but his death was sad." Noteworthy that this is written in retrospect in an era where DW is much more concerned with ~emotional moments~ and it was written by RTD, who is A Fan of a Certain Generation who probably never liked Adric and can't bring himself to describe him nicely in any way (but still wants to use his death to pull at people's heartstrings), so of course Adric gets more of the Jason treatment.

And that, fundamentally, is the fate of Jason and Adric. To be disrespected as characters but have their deaths used as Emotional Moments (please get out the violins) by writers who don't see them very sympathetically outside of that.

tbh that kind of tracks bc there were a couple fans including the swiftologist who said they found taylors secret pinterest (now deleted) in 2022-2023 because her stylist followed it and she shared boards with him and apparently she had home renovating/home decor boards that she was sharing with someone whose account name was just a letter J and interior designers and decorators from london. apparently she’d been posting home stuff on it well into 2023 so even the swiftologist said in one of his videos recently that based on that it does seem like their breakup was something sudden on her part.

Sudden to WHO tho? To staff? (Very likely, it seems to have come as a shock to Tree who wasn’t in the loop so yes obviously random staff may have known even less ALTHOUGH household staff may have suspected because they’d see their routines and such shift but also obviously she wasn’t telling the cleaners like “idk maybe I should leave Joe” yk? And obviously she didn’t say that to their decorators?) To Joe? (Likely to a degree - I mean he wasn’t happy either seemingly but he didn’t appear to have a plan to do anything about it so I rate he didn’t expect her to actually end it BUT I also don’t believe it caught him entirely unawares like he would’ve known things aren’t going grand and fwiw his family appeared to as well seeing as how they didn’t go to Eras without him). To The Swiftologist? (Absolutely lol there was no reason to think they’re done). To Taylor’s friends? Doubtful lmao because we know she was writing music about this with Jack and Jack was spending time with her and Matty, she’s mentioned talking to friends about all this so she likely would’ve mentioned it to people like Abigail and Blake (and probably Ryan for the “guy perspective” on whether it’s all normal or nah) and Zoe and Lena etc etc etc. That’s precisely my point.

People don’t signal their intentions to leave longterm partners beyond their inner circles usually? So yes it’d be a surprise for people outside that, but was it really a surprise for Taylor and her close friends? They probably didn’t know when it’d happen but realistically they knew it would eventually?

If not, how do they explain some of the things happening around them (e.g. whatever Devil's Gap got going after the latest Main Quest)?

Alou's philosophy is "if I do not aknowledge it it does not exist. And even if it does it will not pay attention to me as long as I don't draw its attention and mind my own business." They do not know anything about magic, they have some knowledge on the uses of crystals but only because they use them in jewelry and it's a good thing to know when selling.

All the others know about the Sisterhood and the Keepers, and are part of the Keepers/druids! Zoe knows about the Herds from Kieron, but has promised him not to share. Corinne knows about the Herds on Wild Warden knowledge, again sworn to silence, it's a "trade secret" of sorts. They are all aware of Pandoria, and Elaina is training to specialize in exploring it.

Corinne's father introduced them into his coven at an early age, and they have been a witch for almost all her life. Crucially, the Keepers do not know about this, as she doubts they'd react well to it. Her coven does know about her druid status though, and they're cool with it.

Feya is sort-of-part of a hidden magical group. (homebrew lore). I will give no further info on that right now, I keep telling myself to make a post about it. Maybe I will sometime within uhhh 2 days and like 20 years. I mean... it's all there in faer name, really ;)

Elaina loves Pandoria! She is very interested in it, which is why she accepted the explorer/researcher apprenticeship. The others all think she is insane for doing it but support her nonetheless.

They're really not that bothered by the time and space stuff, tbh. They mostly just use it to their advantage - Everlee most of all.

Since none of them are part of the main storyline, they haven't really interacted with any legends and myths as far as I can recall.

@kitnita and @penswriter also asked me this so thank you :') i will never pass up an opportunity to talk about robotter!

tbh zoe's post on them is already PERFECT and she nails the core essence of what makes them compelling so i feel like i don't have to tack on much more but. 2129 are my 2nd favorite stars ship (i'm just equal opportunity robo multishipper. i will reflect) and my main takeaways are that they're so much fun for 1) how their freak_guy mentalities are like... insanely similar despite documented commitment to midwestern "niceness" and 2) how much they embody entwined_legacy draft narratives. and also how much they patiently indulge the media by continuously acknowledging and answering for them.

like jake being the goalie the stars traded up for, robo being the guy who slipped down to the 2nd round and wasn't even interviewed by the team because they always knew they wanted him, etc... i think what destroysss me about robo saying that he and otter "grew up together" in the ahl despite it being literally One year is that for most guys (especially star players) the ahl is barely more than a transitory interval on the path toward their Real Careers, and while robo does characterize it that way most of the time — sometimes when people fish for those ~are you surprised you Made made it to the nhl~ soundbites he's kind of like uh... well not really because i put in the work at every step of the way so why wouldn't i get there eventually? — he still talks about the draft being that moment when he realized that like, Woah okay this professional hockey stuff is a whole different ballpark and the type of player i have to become requires way more sensitive calibration than cooking in juniors does. so in that sense the ahl really is where he officially Grew Up, and the fact that he credits otter as being an integral part of that is like 😭 IT MAKES ME WANT TO CHEW ON SOMETHING.

i also think their jr paths really inform their gamer_mentalities which is sooo interesting to me. like they're both nerds but in different ways: jake is extremely sentimental about his time playing high school hockey and had a very vibrant social life in minnesota and carries that ferda love (second to none but tydel of course) into every roster he plays with, wants so badly to hold onto the memories of every guy who skates for him each season 🥲 whereas robo's parents upended a ton of familiarity to homeschool him and his siblings and let robo focus uniquely on hockey and is sort of why he's much more romantic about the game itself than anything else (and yet otter is still Special and That Guy and the Backbone of the team to him! okay!). so those little nuances, despite their being very similar competitors, does beget intriguing dynamics.

also there's a quote pav had in his exit interview (03:29) that i keep coming back to and it's that "[robo] does have somewhat of a belief that this is his team, as do other guys—as a miro, a roope, and for me that's super encouraging. to see young players have that kind of intensity, that drive, that they want to be the guy out there that's going to make a difference." and i feel like honestly no one better exemplifies that pure raw Belief that they are (or have to step up and become) THE GUY more than otter and robo do. which is just. auUGHHH... so fascinating also because at the end of the day no position is less disposable than a winger and no position is more opaque and singular and coveted than an "elite" goalie. and yet.

i won't wax poetic much longer because i feel like this is all very obvious rambling but i just adore them! and tangentially i find the general existence of ty dellandrea incredible because truly there are so many ways to insert him into a robotter triangle. and when you can start throwing in wyatt or whomever else in there??? the possibilities are endless!!! i love 2129 as a baseline "it's us until the end and we want to win HERE and TOGETHER and NOW" ship so much and i'm obsessed with how much you can keep iterating on that to your heart's content.

Well, as I said in my au or whatever we want to call it Vinnie was born in Italy and Italian is his native language so there's that. His voice also sounds a bit different when speaking Italian because of different pronunciation. He doesn't have an accent though. I guess that is as good time as any to say all the nationalities I gave him over the years that I no longer headcanon: Polish - no reason, just total self-indulgence, German - because he's often angry and German sounds so angry when you don't know the language, Finland - I think there was something about me thinking that Finland is a country with cold temperature? And you know, he's always cold...? Something like that. Tbh, Finland as far as I know is a pretty cold country soo... that was actually my longest nationality headcanon for him besides Italian but I moved on from this. At one point I also made him French and I would have stayed with it but you know why I didn't? Because in that one episode To Paris with Zoe Blythe was trying to learn French and she wanted the pets to help her but none of them knew the language and once I remembered that I was like "omg, I can't make him French, he didn't know that language in this one episode!!!" Yeah, I normally ignore canon whenever I want to but for some reason my mind told me I can't ignore this one fact. So then I was like "Ok, what's a language that is most similar to French? Italian, duuuh!" plus I saw this one post on devaintart which also made him Italian and so his nationatility was cemented. Anyyyway, now that I finished talking about my man of choice...

Just like Vinnie moved from Italy to America so did Sunil from India so Sunil natively speaks Hindi.

Penny can speak a bit of Chinese but just that, a bit because she's learning. She's committed to learning more but not that committed.

Minka knows a good chunk of Spanish, enough to feel comfortable if she went to Spain but not well enough to know everything of course. She likes the language so she just kinda speaks it sometimes for the fun of it so her friends picked up a bit but nothing worth mentioning unless it's Russell. She kinda infected him with her enthusiasm and he began learning it so he's not half-bad either. It's just something he does when he has nothing better to do. And it's Russell so you know he's quite engaged.

@jamespotterthefirst okay, tbh my friend, you might get sick of me after this week is over but oh well. I’ve said it a million times but you were my first writer I read, first MC I fell in love with, so obviously I have to give you a shoutout here. I could never pick just one thing on your masterlist to give a shoutout to because I read that bitch all the time. The fake husband/wife series, I think I’d read like that 17 times. Literally like every oneshot you have I’ve read at least twice. And of course the OG pictagram series that started us all on pictagram edits. Your works are like a comfort to me, and I could never express how much I adore literally everything you do. You have a true gift, bestie and I hope you know that. The way you write our favorite grumpy old man is top tier, Lilac is an inspiration and I can never get enough of the way you weave words together and craft these freakin masterpieces. 

@jerzwriter Listen, do I hate you still for breaking my heart with DTI? Yes. But I am also so impressed and amazed at the way you wrote that giant. You wrote a freakin book dude.
