i think its EXTREMELY fascinating that in all of the yet released (watch the one coming out in a month prove me wrong) koike specials, its only in fujiko's that the designated rival/foil to the titular character is killed instead of spared

fujiko still had to do that with bincam- she proved to him that no supernatural ability is bettter at controlling and seducing people than her. but she didn't let him walk away with that realization. he had to die (he was even stabbed through the heart, a similar visual and physical representation of the "lesson" she taught him that happened to yael and hawk), and theres a couple interpretations that can be put to it, i think

shes a woman, and while she can clearly hold her own in a fight as the special and her series suggest, that sort of chivalry that jigen and goemon had with their rivals is a chauvinistic kind that would never be extended to her. bincam would hunt her forever, so she had to kill him

her world isnt that of brute force like lupin's other two companions. it's cutthroat and ruthless, and death is rarely swift of honorable. there are no duels when you get your way through lies and seduction. a mark that clocks her is eager to kill her on the spot, so Mercy isnt a particularly useful tool to her

and lastly, and what i think is most implied by the text, is that she sees herself in bincam, in a way. the only orders she follows are her own desires, and her "heart" is her weakness (her heart in this case being the kid). to be the best at what she does, you HAVE to kill it. to lie and cheat and seduce and take. you have to be number one all by yourself. so he has to die, stabbed through the heart, just like she's already done to herself

despite being quite into shipping dynamics and wolships (I gave my girl like. six. she's got a complicated love life) I do get incredibly annoyed when some people discuss npcs being into the wol as "canonical"

There's only like one or two npcs I can think of where there was explicit flirting, but most of the time it's just "oh this character has deep feelings of admiration, dedication and respect for the wol and you can interpret that as you like." and a lot of it is my aromantic ass, but when playing I mostly didn't see characters like g'raha, aymeric, etc as inherently romantic. I definitely went "I see why people ship this" but as someone who gets very giddy and eager about wanting to be friends with someone I think is really cool I could also see their interactions in that light.

honestly this isnt even directed at people who like shipping with these characters but moreso people ive seen talk about how they dont like "how many characters are pushed onto them" and im begging you...you dont have to interpret it that way. especially if its making you unhappy. but also just when anyone discusses characters being "canonically in love with the wol" I find it very often makes me go "ok we clearly had very different outlooks" and it can just be very alienating at times to see people act like romance is the one true canon interpretation.
