I understand that for some people it can be scary to go to neighbourhoods and businesses that are outside our normal daily routine and that are primarily populated by people from different cultures and backgrounds. If you feel any of that, that is a sure sign you need to get out there and explore those areas and broaden your cultural horizons.

I can't speak for other countries or what their norms might be, but here in Canada it's something everyone should try to explore. You will meet new people and have new experiences, and in the end you will find that we all have much more in common than any differences we might have.

In my experience, as long as you are being polite, respectful and non-obnoxious, people will welcome you and be grateful for your business and appreciate your interest in their culture. Depending on the demographic makeup of the area you are going to and how often they see people like you, you might get a few curious looks at most. In the vast majority of cases you're just going to be one of the crowd, and no one will make any special notice of you at all. Especially in any major city in Canada, where there is such a mixture of people from all backgrounds.

When you are in an unfamiliar area don't be afraid to strike up conversations or ask questions, but make sure you are doing so respectfully and that your questions aren't based from an assumption. For example, "Where are you from?" can be offensive because it implies the person is a foreigner when they might be a 3rd generation Canadian. It is also more personal than is appropriate for a stranger to ask.

Better questions are more open-ended, and are rooted in your own ignorance rather than in their perceived 'difference'. For example, "I haven't seen anything like this before - may I ask what it is used for?"

Always, always be respectful and remember that you are a guest in their [business, neighbourhood, etc.].

When it comes to seeing a movie from GG and DD, most of the people in the theatres are likely to be fans of theirs, and they will be very excited to see you there. They want GG and DD to be supported by as many people as possible. It can be especially exciting to see GG and DD's broad appeal across cultures and geography.

When I went to see Born to Fly, some Chinese XFX actually came up to me after the movie and asked me how I knew about Yibo and if I enjoyed the film. Of course I dare not tell them I was a turtle, but they were very sweet and friendly, and very happy to fill me in on everything about the movie and about DD (which I already knew but politely smiled and nodded at 😅).

In the extremely unlikely event that someone is awful to you, it is critical that you understand it is because they are an asshole, not because they are from a particular cultural background. There are assholes everywhere, in every shape, size and ethnicity. One Chinese person's behavior is in no way indicative of any other Chinese person's beliefs, attitudes or behavior.

I hope you enjoy the movie, and encourage you to find other excuses to explore your city and find new neighbourhoods and cultures to appreciate.

a bajillion months ago i had sent @witch-and-her-witcher some of my ciri fic draft. and after some back and forth about what was going on, here was Cee's conclusion:

14k of ciri feelings. and i think i've pretty much reached the part of the story that i had actually intended on writing when i first had the idea.

also i know @sassaffrassa will be pleased to hear that i didn't let myself get lost in all of the other story ideas that sprung up during the drafting process. 'Cause I remembered the core of what I wanted to explore with ciri and ye olde book events that got glossed for game canon. putting all the other ideas in a separate document so I don't get lost again. too many ideas.

i doubt it'll stay at 14k but i think (knock on wood) i have the foundation down by now. gonna try to get it into better shape in the next few weeks if i can keep my momentum going.

writing!!! am so tired. reading!! am so tired. but by god i am going slowly keep doing the things i'm enjoying. ❤️

Summary of The Cat of The Year poll atrocities of 2023/2024

I'm sure that most people on this side of tumblr have seen the Jellie vs. Nefarious Anglerfish poll going around with like 60k votes at this point, and I'd really like clear up some of what happened since I was around for the whole thing.

Url blocked out for op's privacy. They have already left but don't look for it if you haven't seen it/don't harrass them if you already have.

1. The previous round (preparation)

I discovered the poll in its previous round, needless to say she beat Jort's ass severely. This was around the 3rd of january, meaning that this round finished before jellie's passing with only about 7k votes. Op did add their own piece of propaganda from their main:

...which was FINE. (except for stuff we'll see later) Of course running a poll while biased isn't ideal but I for one didn't even know they were the op until much later. I also added my own piece in a separate thread, and they didn't interact with it at all. There was no drama.

2. The Finale

Jellie unfortunately passed away right before the starting of this poll, which was the catalyst for what happened next. Op did exactly as last time and added a slightly more mean spirited encouragement to vote for the other contestant. This is the point where I believe that i fucked up personally.

I added this thinkpiece accusing op of associating all mcyters with Dream (who we all hate for the record) despite them not alluding to him at all. This is because tumblr has a history of disimissing all mcyters as... everything that dream was been accused of. Op did allude to not caring for mcyt. but they didn't say what i accused them of. This is important to point out because this reblog of mine is still being spread. Jellie was in the lead at the time, but not by the time i woke up next morning.

I won't be including anyone else's additions because I don't want to put blame on any specific person. Just felt like clearing up mine.

3. The Fuckening

Some time later op made this post to their personal blog:

which is insanely shitty because, as other people have pointed out, the "lame ass youtube cat" didn't die to inconvinience op or ruin their fun, and people would have probably voted for her anyway because jelly is universally beloved in the mcyt community. This isn't anti democratic. This post was added to the poll with a caption saying op should not be running this poll, and it took off. Op later went on to say that this was a joke:

This apology was not taken well by people, (including me) because "you were not meant to see it" isn't an apology and they still very much made fun of someone's pet dying. Safe to say this did not make the drama stop and only added fuel to the flame. I believe this was the point where the conversation of mcyt fans being unjustly sent hate to was reignited.

We should discuss that! it's a real thing that happens often and is equal to childish bullying. However, in this case, OP was the only one getting sent hate to my knowledge. The notes were mostly saturated by mcyt fans, and even now i can only find one or two hateful stance towards us under the whole 20k notes post.

4. Conclusions

Op posted a second apology to the catoftheyear blog to try and calm people down (i believe this is comprehensive and a lot better than the previous one) The blog was deactivated shortly after, so i only have my phone screenshots of it that i also added to the poll itself at some point:

Needless to say I am deeply dissapointed (and guilty) that it's come to this. Yes, op said tasteless things that made us all angry, but telling a human being to commit suicide is worse than being insensitive about a stranger's pet dying. Even after I posted about the blog being decatived i had someone come into my notes to wish that "they never find happiness" i mean wtf. This isn't like shipping where we can do whatever without the content creator's input. this is fucking harrowing and i can't imagine how i'd feel if this was done in my/my pet's name especially after losing them as recently as a week ago.

I hope no one from hermitcraft who is on here (let alone scar holy shit) learns about this like they did with previous lighthearted tournaments. If you truly respect the creators you claim to be a fan of as people, you do not tell people to kill themselves over them. And finally, let Jellie fucking rest, guys. she had a long, good life. I hope op can come back and also avoids behaving like this if they ever wish to do so. I'm angrier at mcytblr, though.

Hello guyssss!!!! im back with another edition. In this one were gonna discuss the placements that may indicate that you underestimate you intelligence, or others do or others have called you stupid or mocked your intelligence or simply underestimated.

[Saturn restricts and here's the thing, 3rd house governs your early childhood and learning imo. It also governs your schools and neighbours whilst on the other hand, 9th house governs travelling and higher education alongside your higher mind and religeon and faith and mercury needless to say determines your intellect and mind. Saturn rewards but creates a harsh environment and also and it also rules discipline. This placement indicates that you may have felt that you always had to work harder than your peers to achieve the same as them. It may akso indicate that no matter what you may have always felt inadequate and average at best. It may also indicate that authority figures may have been harsher with you or may have doubted your intelligence and neglected you or they may have been more attentive towards you than other students as they may not have alot of confidence in you. Basically all of maths. I would avoid studying like it was a plague. I was also constantly compared with other students by my parents and would feel extremely insecure of other people scoring well. I also had horrible self esteem and wouldnt answer as i feared being mocked and the one time i did answer,the teacher looked at me and told me that it waas wrong snd then called me near the white board and made me solve it and i struggled too and my hands were shaking and everyone laughed at me😀like?????
