domestic!ellie who finds herself being completely smitten by you during your weekly movie night. ✧.*
a short and quick one-shot ౨ৎ ˖ ࣪⊹
Palestine resources !!
DVD's litter the mahogany coffee table in messy arrays of colors and titles as you search for a specific disc for tonight's movie night. It wasn't a movie you and ellie had watched together yet, but you knew it was somewhere in your collection as you hunched over the edge, eyeing each and every disc the two of you owned.
"does it really take this long to pick a movie, babe?" ellie would tease, clicking her tongue as she set down two of your blankets on the couch behind you before crossing her forearms over the crown of your head and resting her chin on them. a huff leaves your lips at her comment as you tilt your head upwards, her playful gaze meeting yours through your lashes and her messy bangs.
"hey, you choose the same movie every week. You have absolutely no room to talk," you quip back, a fond look in your eyes as you watch her chuckle in amusement before glancing back down and finally spotting the DVD you had been searching for. "aha! found it!" you cheer, holding the disc up for ellie to see.
"...mama-mia? babe, I swear if this is one of those musicals you like.-"
"you'll love it. promise." you interrupt, a giddy chime in your voice as you carefully shake her off and get up to insert the beloved disc into the waiting dvd player. seeing your excitement, ellie only shook her head while letting out a playful overdramatic sigh.
"atleast pick up your mess first."
──
so maybe ellie did "love" it, but not because of the plot nor the abundance of ABBA classics. Instead it was because of the way it seemed to bring you so much joy as you smiled from ear to ear and you sang along to each and every song while commenting on little parts of the movie she otherwise wouldn't have picked up on. it was endearing, and although you were generally a rather bright person, she couldn't help but admire the genuine light in your eyes as you watched the film she had learned was your favorite.
her sketchbook was on her lap, her gaze flickering from you down to the page every so often as she scribbled down little doodles of you singing or mimicking certain actions from the characters on screen. you were too busy attempting to harmonize with "donna and the dynamites" to super trooper, that you didn't notice the way her attention was solely on you as she drew a portrait of your side profile. the light from the screen illuminated your features, accentuating the curves and edges of your face with a soft glow that she swore made you look almost ethereal. in the moment you were her muse, regardless of whether your voice cracked or went off key, and all she wanted to do was capture this moment and live in it forever.
"you're not paying attention, els." she hears you whine as your attention finally shifts back to ellie who was still sketching away in her sketchbook.
"Of course I am," she responds, looking up at the screen for a second and realizing she didn't actually know what was going on as she watched sophie help one of the three men crawl out of under a table. you raise a brow at her and she gives you a sheepish smile in return as she puts her sketchbook to the side and signals for you to lean closer to her to which you happily ablige.
"doesn't seem like it," you hum, sneaking a glance at the open book at ellies side before shifting slightly to rest your head against her chest. her arm wraps around your waist, her fingers gently resting on your stomach as she presses a kiss to your forehead.
"but I am, promise." she responds, deciding to finally pay attention to the film despite her fingers itching to finish her drawing. It was a habit she had picked up during her time with Joel, always sketching little pictures of things she found interesting in the films and writing down quotes she would later recite to the older man whenever there was a chance to reference them. she found herself doing that less nowadays but it was still something she enjoyed doing, especially in special situations like these where it was you she was drawing instead.
as the movie neared it's end, she found that maybe she could appreciate the plot even if it was rather odd in her opinion. your singing had quieted down to small hums as you slowly began to drift off against ellie's chest, the rise and fall of her chest lulling you into a sense of comfort despite your attempts to stay awake until the end of the movie. she would definitely tease you about it tomorrow morning, especially after all the times you swore you'd stay up despite your track record of falling asleep. It was cute, a sweet moment she wouldn't replace with anything in the world.
she brushes a stray strand of hair from your face, a fond look in her eyes at her feather light touch before she carefully reaches for her sketchbook with the hand that wasn't holding you to her.
she flips it open to the page she had been drawing on before scribbling something down in messy handwriting under your portrait.
"Mamma mia, here I go again ,, My, my, how can I resist you?"
it was dumb, and the song didn't necessarily fit the situation, but she knew you'd get a kick out of it the day she'd finally show you the sketchbook filled with pictures of you.

how do you anatomy
I personally don't think I'm the best at anatomy, but I'll do my best to explain my process!
I usually start by kinda just blocking in the general shape of the pose. If I'm working traditionally I might make a couple small thumbnails to test out poses (especially if I'm not using a reference). I try to go pretty quick and messy with this part to make the pose feel less stiff (and to try to avoid perfectionism cuz that shit is time consuming)
If the proportions, angles, etc. are feeling off and you're working digitally it can help to move the reference picture underneath your drawing every now and then to make sure nothing looks too far off. Just keep in mind that there might be differences if the character you're drawing has a different body type/height than the reference
From here I make the usual anatomy guidelines. There's tons of great tutorials that explain this part in more depth (especially if you're looking for help with a specific body part) but the gist of it is to simplify all the human shapes into easier shapes like squares and circles
I also try to keep this part pretty loose and fast to keep the pose more dynamic and less stiff. It helps to try and think of each part of the body as a 3d shape (so the torso is a big rounded box, the arms are tubes connected to spheres, etc). Also keep in mind the angles of the head, shoulders, and hips. For example, in this reference the shoulders are at a slant so I made a straight line across the shoulders to keep that angle in mind
From here I kinda just go at it and sketch (which isn't the most helpful adivce, I know). You can think of this part as putting the skin onto the shapes you just made (sorry if that's a gross image, I don't know how else to describe it)
If something specifically is giving you trouble (like arms or hands) I'd highly recommend looking more closely at references or guidelines for those specific anatomy pieces that thoroughly break each shape down in more depth. It can also help to look at art that you admire to see how they translate these shapes into their art (focus on where they put lines to indicate muscles, limbs, etc).
If something feels especially difficult, you can always do a study of that thing (maybe spend an hour just drawing hands or legs or whatever else is giving you trouble). I'd say try to keep these sketches loose and quick so you can focus more on the general motions rather than minor imperfections
Also, when adding the clothes, keep in mind where the body folds, what limbs are in front of others, and other similar details to figure out where the folds go (this helps indicate the figure underneath the clothing)
From here it's mostly cleaning the sketch and adding colors. I'm sorry if my process isn't the most helpful, I tend to jump around a lot and make lots of minor adjustments in the moment
I hope this was still helpful in some way!

Okay, this is a positive post about my art because, despite all the weird and self-doubting thoughts my brain produces sometimes, I still appreciate what I've accomplished.
For example, I'm really proud of my sketches. It's always been my goal to be able to make clean sketches, be more confident in almost every line, and know where to put the next one. It's not like there's something wrong with messy sketches! It's in the nature of sketches to be messy. I just wasn't satisfied with how mine looked.
Now, the line between sketch and lineart is blurred for me. It's also very efficient because, most of the time, I spend significantly less time figuring out the pose. It feels like my brain was rewired. Quick and clean sketching kind of forced me to better understand how things work.
Of course, I'm not on one level with Kim Jung Gi, that man was insane (in a good way), but still, I'm pretty damn proud of myself. However, I'm not that confident in sketching with traditional materials. I need to work on it heh
Also, this skill is pretty helpful with drawing comics (well, to be honest, this is exactly how I developed it). Here’s a timelapse of me drawing one of my comics if someone is interested

Hello hi I just found out you're the artist of my favorite pic of Jamil from all time 🥹 I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEE SO MUUUUCH his bday art from 2020!! It's my favorite one from every art and he looks so pretty and hot and cool and like he's in a music clip and about to drop a fire verse!! I LOVE your painting style so much, as a baby artist, would you one day show us how you color? I'm sure you put so much blood, sweat and tears into your hard work and it would great to get a little bit of that wisdom. Please keep drawing, keep doing what you love because it makes the world a better place to live!
Sketched my sleepy and tired oc to do a very quick demonstration but it covers how I color when i render things:
Start with rough greyscale first, it's a good start to roughly decide light direction and value of your overall work. Especially if you have no idea on your shading.
Next, apply base color to greyscale. I'll use gradient map if I want to keep the details of my greyscale. But if not, I'll just start with a flat base color, and try whatever I can to apply color.
Rendering phase. Add layers and just paint on top to refine it. Merge all layers if it's too messy. Then add layers again. My rendering really depends on how much time taken because it's just a loop of paint over and refining. Thats why i do more simple fanart cuz I sometimes get bored of rendering Also at this stage when doing lineless style, I merge lineart with layers and cover up the lines.
Final touch. Merge all layers and use [filter gallery > paint daubs (brush size 1, sharpness 2)]. It will sharpen your work and look detailed. Or add some very fine noise texture, it will look detailed too.
Another very rough demonstration on how i apply color mood. This will be after step 2. And same will be more refining and even paint over to ensure the colors look ok.
Other tips:
Add warm and cool colors especially on skin.
Use pinterest. Always find more than one reference for a subject if you want to draw better than yesterday. Pure ref is a nice tool to gather reference on your pc. When i draw a single hand I had a lot of ref. (pose, color temperature, lighting, photos, artwork, all diff ref)
Color theory is so important I still struggle a lot. I highly recommend beginners start from practicing Marco Bucci's ball practice. After that slowly change to adding character into movie scene and photographs, the purpose is to adapt different color moods and learn the lighting from the image. Learn more from famous movie and cinematic. They did their best to nail the colors.
Anyway,
this is a long answer about how I color. My previous job influenced me so much on coloring so there's a lot of thinking and struggle on my colors.
So, I suggest you be more experimental and try new ways, at the end what remains is what fits you.

I'm just gonna make my own headcannon real quick.
Dontis is definitely the type of guy to be calmly angry. He doesn't scream, or yell, or curse at people. He doesn't get violent because that's simply not in his nature. He'll speak to you in an even tone, and his voice would be low and flat.
But you can definitely tell when he's at his wit's end with you —because the entire vibe of the room changes. An unsettling, eerie feeling that fills the air, and suffocates you as you try so desperately to breathe. And the most scary part is that you don't even know what's coming next.
The only way I could describe is that very uneasy feeling you get when you're in a relatively calm, and quiet place in a horror game. You're looking over your shoulder every two seconds, and you're staying vigilant because the last thing you wanna do is to be caught off guard when the enemy comes out.
You can hear the venom behind that calm tone as he speaks to you. And you can see the displeasure in his eyes.
I feel like seeing Dontis angry would be a very frightening sight—-and its not even because he's calm about it; but because the whole vibe of the room is thrown completely out of wack when he does. I'd imagine that it'd even make Xanthus a little scared.
To cool off, I think he'd go on a long walk, or sit in a park. Take a few deep breaths, and enjoy the scenery in silence.
After he's had time to cool down, he'll definitely try to talk to you and try to see your perspective on things--and will make the effort to work things out with you. Unlike some people.
All I know is, if you somehow got DONTIS to be angry at you —then whatever happened between ya'll is YOUR FAULT. 'Cause how in the 7 circles of HELL did you get the most kindest, forgiving, and empathetic soul in ALL of the SAKUVERSE upset with you??? Whatever you did must've been deliberate--because Dontis doesn't get angry easily at all.
For god's sake, he found a way to befriend and fall in love with the hunter who LITERALLY tried to take him OFF the UNITED STATES CENSUS‼️ Hunter listener literally tried to put my man Dontis on a shirt and he STILL found a way to be understanding and forgiving‼️
Whatever you did, you better be sorry. And knowing Dontis, he will still find a way to forgive you, even if you don't deserve it.
BONUS:
It's a quick sketch and very messy, but this is what I'd imagine how he'd look like if someone were to piss him off. I have a headcannon that Dontis is a little over 6 feet tall, so he already has a very imposing stature, but him being angry on top of that makes him all the more intimidating.
(I tried to make it look like he's staring down at you but I suck at perspective and just drawing men in general. I hope ya'll see the vision anyway 💀)
#sakuverse#zsakuva#dontis zsakuva#sakuversefanart#sakuverseart#ya’ll see the vision tho right?#he angy#i love Dontis bro

i just wanna talk a little bit about my art journey the past few years, about my mental health related to it, and about my recently rediscovered joy in art. this doesnt have any real point, id just like to share (under the cut because its pretty long lol)
for a very long time, like several years, i was deeply unmotivated and uninspired to make any art. getting out of high school and eventually quitting my first job, i just felt really depressed, and with undiagnosed psoriatic arthritis putting me in worse and worse pain every day, i was lucky if i could even physically sit down and get a doodle out.
i also held myself to secret unsaid rules about how to create my art. no starting a piece unless i intend to finish it in the same day. no creating anything that isnt fully colored and polished. no making anything that doesnt have perfect lines or proportions im perfectly satisfied with. it stunted my self expression, it took all the joy out of making my art, and it made me upset because i believed i was somehow losing my passion for making art.
i sincerely believed i was growing out of my desire to draw, forever. i was distraught and grieving. i couldnt even draw things i was excited to, i would think to myself, "wow! id love to draw this idea!" and then id sit down and think about how id have to finish a full, perfect piece, and id immediately lose my motivation. so all id ever make were full, finished pieces every once in awhile, and i was still deeply unsatisfied with them.
however, in the past 6 months or so, a few things have come together that have really restored my excitement for creating art
first, (DISCLAIMER: this is not advice! dont follow my example!) i quit my adhd meds. yes, really. i was suddenly out of them for a couple weeks and in those couple weeks i realized i felt better than i had in years, and, ironically, it was way easier for my to do chores without it. the only thing i can really think of to explain it is that i was on a stimulant medication for a very, very long time, like most of my working memory ive been on them. i guess after so long it stopped working the way it should to due to tolerance buildup and was just bogging me down instead of stimulating me.
second, i doodle, i sketch, i make quick drawings i have no intention of finishing. i allow myself not to finish or perfect a piece. i even draw random ideas i wont do anything else with, just for fun. at the advice of a few friends, i have forcefully practiced letting myself get messy and unrefined with my art so that its less intimidating, and to my surprise it actually worked.
third, i started arthritis meds and i listen to my body way better now so i can avoid inflaming and injuring myself, which makes it a lot easier to draw without pain! i even do stretches! im still working on fully effective treatment for my pain, but im doing at least a little better
i dont really know where im going with this tbh... for anyone who has followed me for a long time, uve seen this blog get quiet with little to no art posts for months and months at a time for the past few years, so i hope u are excited to see me posting more frequently again! i missed it! i hope u enjoy me now as much as im enjoying me!
im happy to be creating again and i hope i can keep my passion going! im happier now than i have been in an extremely long time, and im excited to show everyone the things ive been creating more often
umm thats all i guess! if u read this far ummmm One Big Kissaroo From Me To You okay 🩷🩷🩷 MWAH

Arcanolinguistics Companion Blog
Arcanolinguistics, my article about verbal components in spellcasting for 5e, is out today in MCDM's ARCADIA. Please check it out! This blog post is a small dive into what went into its creation. Today marks a milestone in my career: the best thing I've ever written by far, which serves as a love letter to 5e and the people who made it worth playing for me.
When I build a character for a TTRPG and there’s an option for a language-based skill or power, I take it. One of my first D&D characters, Thavma Sanguine, was built with the linguist feat, the spell comprehend languages, and the anthropologist background from Tomb of Annihilation. Thavma was—like me—young, curious, and desperate to connect with the people around her. After years of academic study, she was eager to put her skills to the test in the real world. Language was an extension of that.
Immediately upon her creation, Thavma was captured by drow and taken to the Underdark, where the prisoners all spoke different languages. She used her abilities to bring people who did not understand each other together, to hatch an escape plan that only worked because everyone was on the same page. The DM of that campaign (you might know him, his name’s Willy Abeel) picked up on the fact that I really enjoyed exploring the game world through language, and the rest of the campaign was full of little moments for Thavma to puzzle through bits of text or linguistic differences to move the story forward. From there, our shared table started to develop some interesting linguistic trivia, some of which you can read in the article.
Playing Thavma, who was also a Wizard, made me super aware of spellcasting components. Most of the time you don’t really pay attention to them, but I feel like there’s so much storytelling potential there. I wrote a blog post about getting the most out of material components once. After that I started wondering about verbal components. Thus the idea for Arcanolinguistics was born.
On Collaboration
As of its release, Arcanolinguistics is the best thing I’ve ever written. This is in no small part due to everyone who worked on it. At dinner the other day, Hannah and I rounded up how many people it took to make, before it ever even made it to playtesters: two developmental editors, two line editors, four cultural and sensitivity consultants, two artists, and two (haha) writers.
I never intended S.A.M. to be a co-author on the article. But when I sat down to write, actually take my messy outlines and notes and put them into something for somebody else, no words came. This happens often, and like every professional I’ve developed a toolbox for fixing it. Sometimes I will start my day with a writing warmup. A quick blog post, opinion piece, or stream of consciousness to get the words flowing. Like a warmup sketch, but with words. Since at the time S.A.M. was a student in one of my home games (at Thavma’s institution, no less!), I decided to write research notes from its point of view. The more I wrote, the more I realized that S.A.M. wanted to write the article. So I let it.
This work would not exist without MCDM, especially Hannah. I only pitched this article because I know that MCDM was the only place with the passion and the resources who would help me make this article what it was supposed to be. The pitch was a risk from the start. It needed heavy development, consulting, and playtesting, and right now for a freelancer like me MCDM is the only place that can make that happen. I cannot stress enough how much of a gift ARCADIA has been to my professional development. I learned a lot on this project, pushed myself, and made something I never would have without these resources.
Hannah was always there to hop on a call and talk over spell ideas or brainstorm ways to make effects work. A lot of the effects in the article are very different from their original ideas. Without Hannah, much of them would have been super overpowered, confusing, or just plain wrong. It’s hard to add a system like this on top of spellcasting and make it click, but I think we did it. She found not one but FOUR consultants to work with us. It was important to us to do this right, from the outline stage to the end.
Kathryn and Hakan provided amazing insight for the early drafts. I’m a hobbyist; I don’t know what I’m doing. But they helped me find the right words and guided my concepts in the right direction. Yes, they were consulting on my article, but it felt like my own personal crash course in all things language. I learned about a bunch of amazing linguistic concepts thanks to them. And though I didn’t get to work directly with Rogan or Basil, their notes and suggestions made this piece shine!
The testers at MCDM are unrivaled. They built a spreadsheet for every language and every official 5e spell that the language could possibly affect. They caught some edge cases that were devastating, and devastatingly funny. My favorite was the entry for casting ray of sickness in Goblin, which just read, "Ray of Vaccination?"
I offer both my awe and apologies to Sadie and Amber, for sending them a behemoth that was so large it took two editors to tame. The final product is clear and usable and flows great thanks to them. They’re the reason you can bring this to your table instead of just considering it abstractly. They’re also the reason we got the Dohma Raskovar joke on Orcish!
Speaking of, there is always Willy, the co-creator of the personal playground inside my head. I didn’t ask what he thought of the Dohma joke. Maybe I should have, considering Raskovar is his character, designed for Flee, Mortals! But after I sent the bit in to Hannah, I just told him I did it and he laughed. I got to turn a question about wording into a love note just for him.
On My Interest in Linguistics
Linguistics (specifically sociolinguistics and the history of language) has always been an interest of mine. I love reading about the origins of language, how it’s evolved over time, and how a language’s structure can shape its speakers’ way of thinking. I’m not an academic; I can’t elaborate on that. But I can point you to some people who can. People I read and watched whose work served as research and inspiration for this article include:
The Mother Tongue: English and How it Got That Way, by Bill Bryson Lingo and Babel, both by Gaston Dorren The Story of French, by Jean-Benoît Nadeau and Julie Barlow The Linguistics Crash Course with Taylor Behnke on YouTube Conlang 101 from David Peterson (creator of Dothraki) on YouTube My favorite ttrpg: Dialect, from Thorny Games (imagine my surprise and delight when Hannah brought on this linguistic duo to CONSULT for my article!!! Holy shit!!!) The Language Instinct, by Steven Pinker Exploring Language, a collection of essays compiled by Gary Goshgarian The Language of Thieves, by Martin Puchner Jews and Words by Amos Oz and Fania Oz-Salzberger Legends of Localization blog, run by Clyde “Tomato” Mandelin A Language Family Tree in Pictures illustration by Minna Sundberg, for The Guardian's "Case for Language Learning" series.
If TTRPGs can be power fantasy, then mine is being able to use many languages, to connect with and understand as many people as I can. Not just in the /comprehend languages/ way (which I’ve likened to Google Translate), but in the authentic way, where you start to get the jokes and nuances, where you can forge relationships and shift your own perspective. I’ve been studying French on and off for over a decade, but I wouldn’t call myself any good at it. It’s hard! I don’t have anyone to practice with, and I’m also super shy in real life about speaking foreign languages. That’s why I wanted to add a fail-forward mechanic for language learning in the article. I want to believe that even though I’m not a toddler anymore, and my adult sponge-like mind has been left for many years to dry by the sink of knowledge, that I can keep working at it and get there someday.
On 5e Design
When I turned in the final draft of this article, I thought it was going to be the last major 5e thing I ever worked on. This is because I turned it in in January 2023, and you remember what happened all those years ago. While things have worked out differently and I am still designing in 5e, I sought to “leave it all on the page” with this one. It is, in my opinion, the purest expression of my 5e design philosophy: it’s fanfiction all the way down.
I liken my career as a 5e designer to my experience as an incredibly niche fanfic author. I like finding the little cracks in canon and filling them in, adding nice little layers of things that could have plausibly happened within canon and supporting them with as much textual evidence as possible so that people reading can accept it as their own headcanon. I think these are important skills to have for a designer of someone else’s game, especially when there’s a lot of other third party material competing to be incorporated into your table.
I found a niche in the 5e system—spellcasting components could be cooler and tied more to the world—and I filled it. While language is very much setting-based, I tried hard to use as much textual evidence as possible when forming these concepts. Devils have forked tongues, elves live everywhere and can all understand each other somehow, the dwarvish writing system is by far the most common in use. So I hope these ideas can conform to your own table, too.
But if they don’t, remember that everything not discussed at your table (yes, even official material) is fanfiction. Take it or leave it! If your table’s world doesn’t have the same languages as the SRD, maybe you can still find a way to map my rules onto your world. Or maybe it’ll inspire you to write brand-new rules for your own languages. As a writer and designer of fanfiction, nothing would make me happier.

I think you have some really good anatomy when it come to humans and pokemon, and really good skill when it comes to colors and lighting and even backgrounds!! I think something to work on however is consistency, i’ve noticed that your style can be super detailed one minute, or a different style the next, which is totally fine depending on how much time you have! That or it could be one rendered panel and the others are colorless. Some advice could be mayhaps simplifying coloring some asks if you’re worries about putting them out on time, or taking some extra time to ensure a style is consistent across a sequential set of panels? put your efforts into a style you can easily use for asks and save that detailed style for more important panels you want to emphasize! I hope this didn’t sound too confusing, art is hard, but don’t forget you’re doing great!! its all a journey!
You're so right. I constantly change my style. It's mainly because I'm not satisfied with how I draw now so every time I draw I try to change things up in a way I might like. I'm currently going through a "what do I want my style to be" kind of phase so things have been very all over the place. That's honestly why I'm asking for feedback OTL I really want to love my style but I get bored with it after doing the same one a few times lol and admittedly, I use this blog as a way to try new ones out.
I've only recently been testing waters with lighting. I used to only do clean line art with flat color and simple shades but It became boring to me. Now I've been trying messy lines with more detail coloring. I am quite fond of it but there's still a lot more I need to figure out.
I tend to do colorless sketches as a quick way to tell more story without taking too much time. And throw in a detailed piece when there's more of a tone I want to set. It may seem lazy but I really don't have time to color all of my sketches. And honestly I lose stamina after coloring one piece lmao. I haven't really stepped back and took time on this blog because I'm trying to tell a story within this decade haha I'm not very fast at drawing so I cut corners when I can.
But you're completely right. I need to focus if I want to improve. Find a simple style for asks that I can do consistently and experiment on the side. Thank you for your feedback!
#bluetalks#dl#munday#ask#i hate that i get bored with my stylr#or i see one#and im like#oh i wanna try that#then do it once and like nah#not for me

HOW I MAKE TRADITIONAL COMICS AND COLOR THEM DIGITALLY - PART 1 - HOW TO MAKE AN EMPTY COMIC PAGE
Things you'll need for this part
Ruler
Thin pen
Thick pen
Pencil
Eraser
Heavy book
Something small you can draw on, preferably small paper or a handheld whiteboard
Step one - write your comic page
I usually write comics like this, I work by myself so the comic script can be messy. I stay on six panels most of the time so I can reuse pages, but you should also change it up sometimes, especially on scenes where it needs it.
Step two - plan out panels
Use a small piece of paper or a whiteboard to plan out panels after you've written them. Do the most important panels biggest, and more chaotic panels for more chaotic scenes. You could also use a tablet or ipad and use ibis paint to plan out the panels.
Step three - sketch the different panels
Use a ruler to decide how wide you want the space in-between your panels to be. I usually go to 0 inches because there's some space between the start of the ruler and 0, but you can also do whatever fits the style of the comic.
Draw the lines with the ruler and a pencil, use a heavy book to weigh the paper down straight so it doesn't move. Make a box on your page, then start adding the gutter (space in-between panels) to separate the panels. Make sure you go outside the lines while you're sketching so you don't cover up the entire line with your ruler when you ink.
Step four - inking panels
Use a thin pen to ink the panels with the ruler. Be sure to not go to far off the line, or go too low down below the other lines. Erase all the pencil marks by holding the paper down and carefully erasing (so the paper doesn't bend)
It should look something like this
Step five - copying
Swipe away all eraser marks before you copy the page on your printer. You may still have some marks on your new copy, but you can edit those away in your art software. I always make a copy of the page to keep incase i need to use it for later. Use plain paper and 8'5 by 11 (if that's the type of paper you're using).
Extra step six - thick copy
This is an extra quick step incase you need a more hand drawn and thicker look to your page for now or later. Copy the page like before, but afterwards go over the lines with your thick pen (i use a brush pen) and make it as shaky as you'd think fits the style. It's a quick way to make another type of page and i try to do it with every page i make just incase i need it one day.
Step seven - put away original copies
I keep the original copies of my comic pages in a folder for later use. After a while you'll have a bunch of blank comic templates to use.
I'll post the next part once i finish and scan the finished traditional page.
Also I'm not a professional, this is just how i make traditional comics

Tumblr Update #7
What's happening?
• This weekend I took some personal time to relax, get other errands done, and take a break from drawing. I took a short break because I felt if I continued to work on a drawing for 6-8 hours or so a day, I would get burnt out quick. I am sort of reaching that burn out threshold, as for my second piece I've been getting stuck on the lighting and have been going back and forth trying to fix. I'm about a little more than half way done with my second piece! I've also posted up the timelapses for the first drawing, along with creating a simple thumbnail for them.
Hiccups?
•Looking back at mt IG page, I wish I would have created more thumbnails for my posts to have created a more put together portfolio of my journey there. I could say "the messiness of the aesthetic gives it an artistic feel of my thought and creative process, how it's messy but artsy!", however, I thought it would've just been better to post the sketches and final artworks to show them directly without a thumbnail. I didn't think in the end it would make the journey portfolio unaesthetic, but with all the different art styles, it ended up that way. I talked to a classmate about it, she has a way to edit her posts and pictures after she's posted it, but unfortunately I do not have that feature, so I have to stick with the current thumbnails or delete and repost every post! :( Other hiccups my artist participants and I have noticed is with using AI as a tool, sometimes whatever had been generated didn't give us enough "inspiration" for our second piece. I do agree since I had to generate many times to try and get the reference I needed. It was difficult to be honest, but I did get lucky on the sleeves generation in one of the artworks, and used it as reference in my artwork.
Next update will be when I start my third and final drawing! Everyone is close to finishing and I've really enjoyed my time trying to improve as an artist and working with my participants in this journey!

I feel spoiled with how many es blogs i'm finding- anyways, can I ask for some fluffy headcanons with ritsu, natsume, kaoru, and suou stumbling across their easily flustered fem s/o's sketchbook and complimenting her for her artistic abiltiy please? (like she downplays her abilties because of how shy she is) and thank u!!
sooo this is one of those requests that has been sitting at the very bottom of my askbox for a whiiile now ahaha i'm sorry.... since i write for 3 charas max i just chose the first 3 i had an idea for... and kinda ran with it... for 2k... (*/ω\*) i relate to this rq on a personal level so it made it really easy to just,, write a lot about it <333
✧ kaoru, natsume, ritsu | finding their s/o's sketchbook ✧
RITSU SAKUMA;
✦ ritsu has the habit of accidentally stealing people’s stuff. since he can be found laying/resting virtually anywhere, no secret is safe with him (and his naps!). there’s also the fact that he’s stuck to your side 24/7, keeping watch of every little thing so he can protect you <3 protect you and that little sketchbook you keep carrying around, of course!
✦ ritsu will lean on your shoulder, putting his arms around your dominant hand to try and restrain you just to peak into the pics. because he knows just how quick you are when it comes to hiding this particular notebook! if this attempt doesn’t work out, he’ll resort to cute whining and being (adorably) annoying until you let him see. he’ll call your name and poke your cheek so softly yet so insistently i’m giving you 5 minutes before you sigh in defeat. ritsu sakuma, master of persuasion ( ‵▽′)ψ
✦ so you end up placing the sketchbook on your lap, quietly flipping through the pages under ritsu’s attentive glance. you would think that ritsu being ritsu will stay quiet during the entire flip through but he keeps pointing at his favourite doodles and asking about the story behind them. about what you were thinking about when you drew it, about what that character means to you: he’s putting genuine interest into it!
✦ ritsu finds art to be a really really good hobby. why you ask? because you can be together! he’ll be kind enough to lean on your non-dominant hand this time so you can doodle properly~ he thinks the sound of the pencil gliding against the paper is comfortable… makes him sleepy <3 that is what he says but as soon as you start sketching at his side he will rest his head on your shoulder and look at the pic. he thinks your art is beautiful and wants to see more and more of it. and he is not afraid to compliment you for it!
✦ i think that ritsu can become a bit of a hoarder sometimes. this means every time you’re working on a sketch that you don’t like as much and rip it off, he will ask to keep it. this probably takes you by surprise the first time. and the second time. because you know, he’s not asking for the almost finished pics (he is too, but not now) but rather the messy doodles you gave up on halfway through! you try to say no but ritsu won’t accept no as an answer. if he has to stand up and grab the wrinkled piece of paper, he will (` 3 ′) this shows just how stubborn he is into taking care of your pictures!!
✦ he has this cute little folder in his room with the doodles he has managed to snatch from you. it’s like a dragon hoarding a big treasure of gold coins and jewels but it’s ritsu sakuma collecting a lot of your sketches <3 i think he wouldn’t be opposed to hanging some on the walls of his room. imagine going to his room and finding up this nice frame and when you try to look into it you find your art… no matter how much you ask him to please, please take it off because it isn’t even done he’ll shake his head…
✦ “mrmm it’s a placeholder then. i like seeing your art every day… i might reconsider putting a full illustration if you don’t like this one… i think it’s pretty though~” see he tricked you. it’s all a trick so he gets more of your art. he’s so smart isn’t he!
✦ all in all i think ritsu is very supportive of your hobby (❁´◡`❁) he tries not to be too pushy but he still wants to see everything you do, to learn more and more about the things you love. he understands what “not being enough” feels like and he knows just how important it is to have someone by your side reminding you that you are enough. skills take time to develop! but you don’t have to be the very best. if it’s your passion and it makes you happy, then that is good enough!
NATSUME SAKASAKI;
✦ they say curiosity killed the cat but that doesn’t apply to natsume: once he catches an interest in something he’ll be fixated on it until he’s completely satisfied. call it a scientific method, call it him being nosy and wanting to find out everything: both are right! (●ˇ∀ˇ●)
✦ you keep spending your free time together with him in the secret room, sitting down on a comfy corner with a notebook in your hands and natsume didn’t even think too much about it until now. it’s always the same notebook, same cover, decorated with the exact same stickers. and as soon as he walks by and turns his head just by the tiniest bit, you’re already turning the sheet or closing the book right on his nose. so he’s growing more and more curious by the minute. if he were to snatch your notebook…?
✦ but there’s no need to! one day his prayers are heard as you have to run for a quick errand and forget it right on his table. right next to his stuff. look, you got this one on yourself. he is most definitely not prying around your stuff, you knew exactly what was going to happen if you left your stuff unsupervised!
✦ so natsume opens the notebook with the utmost curiosity only to find out it isn’t the kind of notebook he thought it would be. instead of pages full with scribbles and notes, he’s surprised to find little doodles and half done illustrations. it’s actually a sketchbook!
✦ natsume isn’t even trying to be coy about this. you’ll come back into the room and catch him sitting in your favorite corner, happily flipping through the pages and nodding along with every pic. you don’t get a chance to complain about him stealing your notebook (because you forgot it yourself, he reminds you), but rather he goes straight into asking.
✦ “and so? how long were you planning to keep this hidden from me? ah no, i’m not giving it back it’s mine now” camera pan to natsume keeping the sketchbook away from you while he keeps staring intently into each and every page. maybe when he’s done,, he’ll consider giving it back. maybe. if you’re good <3
✦ so from that day onwards, he keeps getting just a tiny bit closer to you when you’re doodling. like yeah he does have stuff to do but mayyybe he can take a bit of a break. no he’s not staring at you?? you’re just making things up jeez (he’s is indeed staring at you)
✦ methinks natsume is good at art, maybe in a different sense than you are? it does of course depend on your style and the things you like drawing better! but this little man here can draw some pretty impressive rune circles and stuff so he knows what good art looks like when he sees it <3 and even if what you do were to be totally out of his area of expertise you won’t even realize until he’s done some proper research about it ehehe
✦ he’s also comes across as a biiiit rude sometimes… natsume kind of rude. maybe not rude but painfully honest? you don’t downplay your skills in front of him because he can and will roast you into accepting that you are wrong. that you are wrong in thinking you are not good, that’s the right thing ( ˘︹˘ ) oh wow a bit of a twisted argument isn’t it? but it somehow works. he keeps using logical arguments and things you can’t quite deny to prove that you are indeed a good artist and just painfully modest. but who needs modesty? just learn to accept yourself with your good and bad points (mostly the good ones, like he does but shhh) and you’ll be happier and safer. good advice from your local fortune-teller / boyfriend! be sure to listen to him!!
✦ if those kind of arguments don’t work on you, it’s natsume we’re talking about! he surely has some tricks up his sleeve to make you finally accept that he is right and you need to love yourself a bit more. if has to… tease you into accepting, he will. maybe he’ll pull just so close to you, so close you can see every golden sparkle in his eyes… so close you can almost kiss! only to try something along the lines of “now, if you talk nicely about yourself for once i might consider giving you a reward? do we have a deal~?” here we have it,, another master of persuasion in all his glory www
KAORU HAKAZE;
✦ ohhh kaoru. this is going back to ritsu square: won't stop whining and being annoying (but in a cute kaoru way) until you let him see. if puppy eyes are needed and some adorable "babeee pretty please let me see?" then he won't stop until he gets his point across.
✦ he is just so surprised. like, he knew you could draw (he is surprisingly smart at realizing people's hobbies, actually) but not at this level! he's literally showering you with compliments. That's some real talent!! ♪(´▽`)
✦ so kaoru finds in art a couple bonding experience. that is, he asks you to teach him how to draw. other than a couple silly doodles he really can't do much but he's excited to try! Sitting together for a chill afternoon, just doing your best at doodling each other. oh yes! be sure to get his right side, okay? and then you can exchange the pictures. more like, he’ll ask to take your picture with him, just to keep it somewhere safe. getting your s/o to draw you in their style,, he’s getting this precious little fluffy feeling in his chest, he couldn’t be any happier
✦ kaoru is the absolute king of boosting people’s self-esteem no matter the situation. i’m sorry but that’s the rules <3 seeing as constant compliments don’t really work, he tries to shift his strategy and rather asks you why you think so badly of your art. first of all he calls your half-done doodles art (and that is utterly adorable) but then he asks why. why do you? maybe you feel like your skills aren’t good enough or you keep comparing yourself to other people. maybe you’re just shy… but worry not! best boyfriend kaoru hakaze will work with you on getting rid of whatever makes you feel like that. he’ll be your personal cheerleader!
✦ he would also like to be your personal model if you don’t mind? he’s always up for the offer ( •̀ ω •́ )✧ …oooor that is what he says. because they day you actually say yes he’s even more surprised than you are for finally accepting. please don’t look at his blush please don’t look at his blush please don’t— suddenly his heart started beating so much faster than usual? lucky for him it only takes him a couple minutes to recompose and smile brightly. well, you did accept after all! and kaoru is positive when it comes to his looks <3
✦ he will try to mask his nervousness by aggressively flirting with you, cute winks included. “heh, you love me so much you can’t help but stare, can you? that’s cute…~ (๑・ω -)~♥” which could have worked had kaoru remembered that he is… modeling for you. that. that’s the entire point of it, you know? as an idol he is used to, it’s just,, he wants to do it well for you, okay?
✦ also! kaoru makes some really good company at all times but when you’re casually doodling? absolutely awesome. you can play some light music in the background while you listen to him talk about his day, about work or anything he might remember. it brings this sense of comfort… of feeling at home no matter where you are, as long as you’re together (❁´◡`❁)
✦ would it make him a mean person if he said he likes the way you blush? you really make the cutest expressions when he says something nice about your drawings… which only prompts him to say even more sweet things about them. of course he means it! it’s just your cute reaction is extra points for him ehehe indulge him a bit! <3

cosiest setups. maybe with a few succulent plants, but definitely some tiny figurines lying here and there. really organised yet clustered desk. minimal colour schemes. always have an extra chair tucked under the desk with your favourite pillow or plush toy. would play relaxing games with you such as animal crossing, calico, terraria. always has the playlist you made switched on during gaming sessions, whether you are here or elsewhere. loves it when you would slip into the gaming room with a mug of hot coffee/tea. sometimes would sketch or doodle pictures of you or make picrew avatars for the both of you. would definitely set it as their twitch, discord or social media icons. streams on twitch every now and then, but would rather focus on gaming with you. it’s a lot more private and intimate. cries during emotional quests and stories in front of you so please give them a hug :-( literally looks at you for reassurance that there will be a happy ending or some good out of it. “thank you for comforting me, i love you” and they will always love you unconditionally.
— thoma, JEAN, kaedehara kazuha, KAMISATO AYAKA, gorou, ALBEDO, keqing, yoimiya
invests a lot in gaming. built their own pc, and definitely will build yours including a table, the gaming chair - everything you need for top quality gameplay. plays a variety of games. doesn’t have a favourite, but will like whatever you pick or enjoy. occasionally or regularly streams with friends, and especially with you. definitely yells out, “y/n come here, chat wants to see you”. effortlessly good at video games with minimal practice. gets emotionally invested in characters, lore, or competitive rounds/matches so they need your hand on their shoulder when things get too tense. pretty much a clear desk btw. except for the little figurine, mini speaker or controller you bought for their birthday. has pretty light decor and 1 or 2 posters above the monitor. streams privately for you on discord and loves your lil’ reactions. made a private discord server between the both of you. puts their favourite selfies/ootd pics of you there. always feels more confident and/or comforted with you during streams. kisses your cheek when people simp for you. “i’m so lucky to have you”, they whisper in your ear to watch you blush on stream.

complete ass wipe (as a joke). toxic troll in almost every lobby. but would definitely turn the swearing and toxicity down a notch when you are around. relatively messy table but will definitely have a picture of the both of you. gets embarrassed when you tell them off for being mean/toxic but secretly loves getting attention from you. deliberately doesn’t want another gaming chair so you would have to sit on their lap. sometimes, they would play horror games just to take a piss on your reactions with jump scares. would occasionally toss the controller at you and ask you to carry the game while they run to the kitchen or bathroom. wouldn’t even help you when they come back but make some annoying remark like, “aww baby y/n missed 3 shots and respawned again?? wow…” with a smug face. super, duper annoying. but will be quick to call anyone out for being harsh/rude to you in lobbies or games. quick with comebacks and the funniest insults. absolutely no one can disrespect you on their watch. “i got you, baby.” and they never fail each time.
— YAE MIKO, KAEYA, arataki itto, hutao, beidou, KAMISATO AYATO, SCARAMOUCHE, venti
doesn’t play video games but will sit patiently next to you, or join your streams on twitch or discord. will definitely offer to be your moderator and pay close attention to hateful/problematic comments. listens diligently about the rules and tips for games. sometimes does their own research so they can learn to play your favourite video games. will be too shy to offer but would hope to impress you with their skills. would give you really educated and helpful responses to better your gameplay. they’ll end up as a walking encyclopaedia and you would learn from them, more than you could ever teach them. definitely your number one fan through thick and thin. “i’m proud of you, dearest.” without fail, you always made them proud.
— EULA, GANYU, lisa, yelan, SHENHE, sangonomiya kokomi, ZHONGLI

so, say someone already has a good design for their character. but, it's a bit too... "normal". what suggestions would you give to make a character's design a big more out there, but not so much that the design becomes too complex?
I think what makes a good character design, aside from the basics such as shapes and silhouettes (when dealing with a cast of characters), is having several core details that remain unchanged, while everything else can fluctuate.
If there's one part of a character's design that's immediately recognizable, then you're on a good way to making a good character design. A good way to know if you got there is to try to draw your character in the most minimal, simple style you can, and see if they are still recognizable. Look no further than Araki's quick character sketches to see what I mean.
For some examples with my OCs.. with Barbi, I think the specific messy spiky shape of her hair, the axes on her shirt and the white collar and sleeves of the crop top give her a pretty distinct look
King can wear a lot of different outfits but still remains recognizable because of his extremely distinct hairstyle. I also always have a specific aesthetic in mind when designing clothes for him, so every time I give him a new outfit it seems believable that it's something he would wear. (Pinning down your character's fashion sense is really helpful if you want to design more outfits for them and keep them unified across the board)
Luv has been drawn in many different ways, but because the core elements of his design (fire hair, heart mask & striped legs) always stick around, he stays recognizable in pretty much every style
Giving a character design some minor but distinct detail that goes beyond the predictable (shirt print or necklace would count as 'predictable') can quickly elevate it from 'normal' to a bit more 'out there', as you put it. Weird hairstyles, hair accessories, earrings, beads, brooches or badges in unusual places on clothes, patterns, stitches or rips, skin being shown in an interesting way, unusual materials (fur, see-through, fishnet..) in unusual places - just one or two of things like these can help a design to become really interesting!
You see a LOT of that sort of designing in jojo.
My favourite design in jojo is Giorno who's a perfect example of how what was initially a pretty boring suit was turned into a gorgeous design. A lot of what makes his design work so well is really just small and very simple details; the hair, the ladybugs, the heart chest opening. An aspect I personally also love very much is the checkerboard pattern on the back of his jacket, it adds a little extra flair for when the character is drawn from behind.
Jotaro is much the same, with the most iconic parts of his design being the hat-hair, the badges on his hat, the chain and the long flowing jacket. An interesting aspect of Jotaro is also how his silhouette remains the same across all of his appearances in other parts, keeping him immediately recognizable, because the core parts of his design always return.
I think that a few good interesting details make a much more interesting, memorable and striking design than a ton of super detailed parts.
I really hope this was helpful!! <3

i cannot believe that these paintings you've been posting are your quick/messy paintings, they are so so so good! i love your art sm, its so inspiring <3
also please do remember to take care of urself, its ok if you miss a day or don't put in full effort every time :)
Aww thank you!! Yes, these are my quick/messy paintings while I’m sick. My trick for saving time is that I skip any sort of lines or pencil sketch—I just go right in with the coloured paint brush and whatever happens happens! Im really glad that people are interested in seeing what I have for Huevember, even the paintings so far that I’ve been less satisfied with have gone over really well 😊
And I appreciate that, thank you! If I have to skip a day I’ll probably just shunt everything back by a day and finish in December instead. I’m happy just doing what I can with what energy I can muster. It just feels good to be painting again!

“...No, darling, listen. We've talked about this."
But of course you don't remember, you sighed. The moments those dazzling red eyes flared up, you knew that you had to start over. Again.
"Look, for the last time - that pounding sensation in your body? It's called pulse. It's an energy. See the laser gun there? That's where the pulses should go. It's not-" you inhaled sharply, clearly having gone through this more than once, "...it's not love. It can't be love, or whatever other feeling you called it. Why does this happen every time?"
When nothing came back but silence - with fervent eyes - you let out another sigh. In your arms was a stack of parchment covered in messy handwriting and sketches. You halfheartedly skimmed through them, knowing full well the answer you seeked was not contained in the pages.
Minutes later, a weary smile climbed up your face. With a flick of your wrist, the materials all flew callously to the ground.
"Well, we'll see. The laser still needs some work, but I can name it Lancel0t's-Very-Own-Excalibur if you like that word so much. But darling, you must stop using that word so casually. Especially around me. You're not supposed to... I'm not building you to love," you mutter, eyes downcast. "Witches shouldn't be loved. And I know you can do better than that, alright?"
You pace across the floor as you kept muttering, the heels of your boots clicking against the smooth marble floor in a repetitive tap-tap-tap. Your delicate fingers danced across the holo-screen of the silver machinery, feeding it with untested formulas and new commands. Soon the colours running through the machine and his veins started to change - the pink disappeared and the black crept upon, the green faded and the purple moved on.
Mutters turned into spells, spells turned into a song. Your melodic voice became the only audible sound for him, your figure the only lively thing in his darkening vision. At last, you came to a stop in front of him, so close that he could see the shiny gloss of pink on your lips, the faint flush on your cheeks.
"I want you to have everything. Eyes brighter than stars. Armour darker than night. Bones stronger than steel. Mind sharper than a blade. Everything, as soon as I know how to do so. And then... maybe we'll be together." You sighed.
The colours were draining. The colours were draining, but you still knew that your voice was heard. Across the glass, those eyes - those breathtaking eyes - were silently burning with each word you uttered, like stars going into supernova.
"I'll have to reboot you again to eliminate unstable factors. Don't worry, I'll make it quick. It won't be long before we first meet again."
A more genuine smile spreads upon your face, but it's tinged with sadness.
"I’m sorry, Kazuha.”
His red eyes were saturated for the last time, then all the slots were waiting to be filled again.
----
"This is Lancel0t," you say, gesturing at the man clad in jet-black armor, a sword strapped to his side, red eyes distant and unfocused. "As you can see here, it's conditions are stable and adapting well to the potion." You hand a clipboard to your leader, who flippantly turns a couple of pages. "I've done a physical assessment and put it through some training, and I can affirm it is apt for combat."
They turn their head to face you, and you can feel their gaze piercing through yours, as if scrounging through your head for a sign of weakness.
"I'll have it sent out for combat in three days."
You blink, confusion in your eyes. "Pardon?"
"You've created a weapon, have you not?" they ask, turning the clipboard over in their hands. "Surely such a creation can withstand anything."
Your blood froze but you steeled yourself nearly instantly, dread filling your system. Lancel0t's gaze suddenly flits to you, his eyes betraying none of his emotions- but you could feel that it was a look of concern for your well-being. Even after your most recent reboot, he still manages to act in such unpredictable, human ways.
His small acts of rebellion reminds you of your Kazuha. It's no wonder you're so hesitant to send him out.
"I feel like that is a bit too soon-"
"You graduated at the top of your class, did you not?" your leader asks, but it feels more like a statement.
You nod, eyes narrowing. "... Yes."
Once again, they flip through the pages, almost disinterested. "Your research is thorough and definitely what I've needed to see. Not only have you created an immensely powerful weapon, but a serum to keep our sacrifices to the minimum." they throw the clipboard atop a desk, and you cringe at the sharp clatter of plastic hitting metal. "You said so yourself that your weapon has been put through tests, and your research shows me just how powerful it is. I don't think it's too soon for it to face battle," they pause, and your blood freezes when they catch your gaze, eyes narrowing into slits. "unless it's not as strong as you say it is."
"That is not what I meant-"
"Then what did you mean?" they said, effectively cutting you off.
The reply is nearly instantaneous. "Nothing."
They stay silent, merely gazing at you and Lancel0t. It feels as if an eternity has passed before they nod and walk to the door, their steps almost drowned out by the sound of your heartbeat thrumming in your ears. They stop at the door, hand wrapped around the iron handle, and utter your name.
You flinch momentarily, cursing yourself for the small moment of weakness.
"Yes?"
"I never thought someone as cunning as you would be so attached to a weapon... But I suppose it's what happens when you use the body of your beloved for such an experiment."
You feel your hackles raise slightly, something seething in your chest, but remain quiet.
"Leave it at the main hall on Monday with a copy of your serum and its recipe. It's time we turn the tide of war to our favor."
They leave you in stunned silence, the gentle click of your door echoing through your lab.
