Final Tumblr Reflection Post!

Update: So sorry for a late post! I had some trouble posting on time and had to try to repost this.. Hopefully its fixed abd now viewable! I had to fix it to be a Google Drive link since the video was too long again.

This class was a big eye opener and full of self taught lessons I believe everyone went through! Definitely be weary of your own time and effort! Don't stress too much, but also don't try to slack in this class. You need your best efforts for your project or practicum! It was super fun to see everyone's progress and final pieces.

Tumblr Update #9

What's happening?:

• Hello everyone! Almost there!! After finishing my last illustration, I've been meticulously creating some reflection posts to post up on my Instagram @innovativeaicreativity ! I got a lot to reflect upon, and I'm hoping my points get across and interpreted well enough. This journey was one that I am very happy I had pushed myself to do. It made me change my creative process to try and be more studied and self observant.

Hiccups:

• Currently some hiccups I'm experiencing is the late submissions of some illustrations. As I've mentioned in my previous post, I wait till I can get all artist's illustrations/posts so I can continue posting to create a more professional and aesthetic feed. This however creates some timeline set backs. Right now I'm waiting for my last two artist to give me their last illustrations so I can post in a timely and organized matter. With the deadline for all files coming up, I'm trying to communicate with them that I need it asap, but I do not want to stress them out too much. I mostly just am excited to post my reflections too, besides the final due date haha. I worked hard trying to collect my thoughts from the past months into three posts for each drawing. Hopefully everything will get done by the 6th!

One other hiccup I've been experiencing the last weeks is that I've been trying to work extra hard on my project while maintaining my other class and small business. This weekend is Super Saturday to which I will be attending as a booth vendor selling my works :). I've been experiencing the time crunch of finishing my capstone project and other class project while trying to maintain my time to create quality handmade products for my booth. Oh this and last month have been so hectic, but it gives me so much learning and lessons in the process.

Watching some of the precapstone student's presentations and hearing Alphie and Sharla give advice to them reawakened the time where I also went through that stage. It gave me reflections on how my final project should be, and some second hand advice for my reflections. Today I ended up writing some more reflections and stats for my project!

Tumblr Update #8

What's been happening?

Hi everyone! Almost done with all drawing prompts soon, just need to render out the last one. I'm so excited to collectively see everything posted, everyones sketches, final illustrations, and all timelapses together! I'd say this is the first time in so long that I was able to consistently fully draw and render illustrations back to back without getting an artblock. It does feel good to be able to do that again, and I partially believe that generating multiple different AI artworks to get my references and base for the 2nd and 3rd prompt helped me get inspired to continue creating these illustration back to back. With my Instagram, I've been trying to get it to be consistent in posts and the thumbnails, so I usually have to wait till I receive all files and documentations from each respective artist so I can post! So for example, I have the post pattern of myself first, Qilumi, then True_wing168, and if volunteer artist Qilumi hasn't completed or sent me their files yet, I have to wait till they send me the files until I can post True_wing168's post. So with that pattern, it does give a weird posting time but my volunteers have done extremely well to still give me their posts on time :).

I forgot to upload the character design/small reference sheet for the 3 characters I drew, so that has now been uploaded to my Google Drive folders for the past days. I've also updated it with other files needed, and have been trying to rename all corresponding files to its content. A bit of reorganizing has been happening!

Small update on the newest volunteer artist joining us! He finished his first piece and is getting started on the 2nd! I'm extremely grateful he wanted to join and is taking the time and effort to complete this journey with me. To me, every artist has their opinions on art and AI. I wanted to get as many volunteers as I could for that opinions, however, many were too busy or just didnt want to volunteer. So to get a last minute artist isn't my intentions, but I'd love all the opinions and thoughts that I can get. I'll be sure to upload and publish his illustrations, findings, and reflections after he has given me all files! In terms of how I will post it on Instagram, I will try to keep it in order still, so my plan is to post his works after the current artists and I have finished the last drawing prompt and timelapses!

Hiccups:

Besides mentioning the last minute artist volunteer, I've been off putting taking a photo of me working as I don't have a complete work space good enough to snap a photo in, nor do I have any tripods or anything to help. However, I think I finally found a solution to it and will do it today! I will then complete my senior bio as well :). Overall, not any hiccups the past days and I'm looking forward to finishing my journey strong in reflections ^^.

Hiccup:

• Just experienced my most major hiccup, and to me it really stresses me out since this is the last week or so of the project. A participant decided to drop out of my journey project, and I'm trying to figure out to get another participant last minute because I would really prefer not to have only two participants in the end.. The possible participant that I'm discussing things with is interested and possibly willing to join, bit time is really at a crunch for them. Still trying to work hard though!

What's happening?

• This weekend I took some personal time to relax, get other errands done, and take a break from drawing. I took a short break because I felt if I continued to work on a drawing for 6-8 hours or so a day, I would get burnt out quick. I am sort of reaching that burn out threshold, as for my second piece I've been getting stuck on the lighting and have been going back and forth trying to fix. I'm about a little more than half way done with my second piece! I've also posted up the timelapses for the first drawing, along with creating a simple thumbnail for them.

Hiccups?

•Looking back at mt IG page, I wish I would have created more thumbnails for my posts to have created a more put together portfolio of my journey there. I could say "the messiness of the aesthetic gives it an artistic feel of my thought and creative process, how it's messy but artsy!", however, I thought it would've just been better to post the sketches and final artworks to show them directly without a thumbnail. I didn't think in the end it would make the journey portfolio unaesthetic, but with all the different art styles, it ended up that way. I talked to a classmate about it, she has a way to edit her posts and pictures after she's posted it, but unfortunately I do not have that feature, so I have to stick with the current thumbnails or delete and repost every post! :( Other hiccups my artist participants and I have noticed is with using AI as a tool, sometimes whatever had been generated didn't give us enough "inspiration" for our second piece. I do agree since I had to generate many times to try and get the reference I needed. It was difficult to be honest, but I did get lucky on the sleeves generation in one of the artworks, and used it as reference in my artwork.

Next update will be when I start my third and final drawing! Everyone is close to finishing and I've really enjoyed my time trying to improve as an artist and working with my participants in this journey!

What's been happening?

•Hi everyone! The project is moving along quickly now! My artist participants and I are currently working on our 2nd drawing prompt, drawing an illustration with the use of AI as a tool! I'm currently on my lineart phase, to which I finished my sketch and basic color in!

The circled parts are the areas I've used a generated AI artwork to help give me specific references for my artwork! I've always struggled with clothing folds, so I was really excited to see how AI might be able to help me draw the folds on her sleeves.

On Instagram, I'm looking forward to finally be able to post all the first drawing prompts by the other artists, as my last participant got back to me with her finished illustration and reflection!

Hiccups:

•A hiccup I went through is that during my sketching process, I had some trouble figuring out what body or pose to do for my original character. She is a new design I created a few weeks ago, so she wasn't 100% fleshed out. What I mean by this is, short reflection time, when I create characters, I like to give them their own personality! This girl to me when creating her, stood out to me as a quiet, almost mysterious type! Like all other character creation by artists, we like to give our characters backstories, personalities, and emotions to give them a certain feel. It also helps viewers to connect with said characters, like how you would in animes, cartoons, or films. That is one thing a human artist can do that I would argue an AI cannot; is to give life and a personality to a charactee design. An AI might create a random character design, but it doesnt have any in-depth personality accompanied with it.

So continuing with my hiccup, I had trouble finding a pose that made sense to her personality. In my timelapse, I originally had a pose sketched out that I did like, but the more I had thought about it, the more it made no sense, it was just a random pose. So I had decided to completely scrap that idea, even if it meant more time wasted. In the end, I believe it had helped me come up with a better pose idea for her!

This taught me as an artist to try and think more about my art and how I can portray my characters! I learned that if I am to draw, I should try my best to draw with feelings and give a sense of direction to my viewers. As artists we have the ability to tell a story or emotion with our art, and that I should try harder to express myself and the characteds I create!

I couldn't fit my entire video in this post, so I uploaded it to my drive and gave a link! I talked and shared about my progress on my first prompt drawing, my volunteer's progress, and a little on the survey results. Looking forward to moving onto my second drawing this week! We'll be working on another illustration with the help of AI used as a tool. I'm excited to document my creative process and thoughts on it, please stay tuned for it!

I've been discussing there on my reflections while in my progress of my first drawing. There was quite a few things I've reflected on, ans it gave me more insights to how I treat myself and my art. I think before my journey, I always underminded my own skills and art. I didn't really think much about it besides, "Finished piece? Okay! Looks good to me!". Now, I'm starting to just see and admire how much I've grown as an artist over the years. I really do have a passion for art, and this journey had reignited it in a different way. I'm learning to appreciate the creative process more than I have before. I always saw it as something that took so long to produce, and at times that killed my motivation. Seeing my first timelapses helped give that sense of recognition and love to my art! Being able to replay the creative process and all the strokes and erasing to make a good drawing, really is something.

So far, I've really enjoyed working on this first drawing prompt in my art journey!

Finished up my colored sketch of my 1st drawing prompt of my personal art journey!

Excited to get started on outlining and base coloring soon! :) This prompt is me ddawing without using AI at all, so I time-lapsed the whole process of how I started my drawing (start with circle for head, add lines and blocking out for limbs and body/pose, etc). I explained for my second drawing with using AI as reference, I will be adding a small image to the corner of my canvas showing I'm using AI as a reference and tool!

Tumblr Update: #3.5

Some hiccups I've experienced trying to recruit volunteer artists to join me is that most people are too busy to join in.

Having experience that did make me worry if I would even get volunteers to join me with my art journey. Although it is a self exploration with AI as an artist, I would love the help and thoughts from other artists doing the same! It would give me more insights on how artists personally perceive AI now by going through the motions of incorporating AI into their creatice process; asking them how they felt and such. In the end, I got 3 artists who gave the OK in joining me. That was less than I would have liked but nonetheless I am grateful to still have volunteers! I do understand everyone has their own things going on, not everyone will have the time!

Tumblr Update #3

Got my final volunteer for the personal art journey explorarion! Very thankful these lovely artists will be joining me!

We'll be doing 3 drawings in total during our exploration!

1st drawing: Draw an illustration in your style on your own. This first drawing will be on your own, using your own reference and ideas. AI is not allowed here.

2nd drawing: Draw another illustration in your own style, this time WITH the help of AI as your personal art tool. You may use AI to generate certain references you need for your art! Some examples may be if you need help with lighting, background ideas, clothing folds and ruffles, and to overall generate ideas to INSPIRE you and your creative process!

3rd drawing: Draw your final illustration by using AI as a base for your sketch. Here you will generate an AI image to sketch over (you will be completing the final drawing by your own hand, the AI image is not to be edited, just sketched over as a base!). This final section of the art journey will give insights on if using AI as a base for a sketch made drawing quicker, easier, and more effective with skill and time!

Follow up discussions and questions will come after each artist has finished their last drawing! We will be documenting our process and progress via time lapses, pictures, videos, and journaling thoughts!

I'm looking forward to see our creative process and what everyone can create in the end!

Tumblr Update #2.5

Sorry for not being able to post earlier, I had gotten caught up with family matters for a while. Hopefully I can get back posting and updating everything while it happens, rather than filming and posting a couple weeks later :(

One thing I want to note about my capstone project, to always try your best to work around the difficult times. Yes we have our own time in this class, but try not to always steer away from working on your project. Unfortunately so many things has happened this summer and have continued on into this class semester. I wanted to take a break from school since I had a feeling the rest of this year is going to be difficult, personal and family wise, but I had thought to try and continue pushing forward. I'm hoping I still can, and to finish my project in the end. ♡ These are just some hiccups I'd want to share.

Hi everyone! Sorry for the background, we're renovating rooms so it's messy and this was the best place to film currently!

The past Senior Capstone that I found to be interesting was Matthew Naki's Echoes of Redemption project! His topic, research question, and abstract had piqued my interest as I wanted to see how AI was being used in the film industry, rather than art communities. I can see from his projects that in the creative field, AI is more apparent, and people have been looking for ways to use AI to help problems such as budgets, expansion, and creativity. I do agree with how AI can help those problems, and how he researched how to utilize AI within his project was insightful!
