OCtober Day 5: Redesigned OC
I hadn't drawn Iryna yet this month, and she's certainly been through some redesigning, so I drew her for today :)
On the left, labeled 2022, I drew Iryna's original design in my current style. On the right, for 2024, I drew her current design in the style I first drew her in !
It was so so much fun revisiting her old design, and one of my old art styles :) this felt like an art trade with my past self <3
#this is one of the like. six art styles that i used in 2022#i was deeply unsatisfied with my art at the time so i overhauled my style several times#and even though this one didn't last long it is lots and lots of fun to draw in!!#i also think it's really fun to see the holdovers from her old design AND the holdovers from that art style#the blush lines (my beloved and famed 'scratchy blush') remain. of course#for her design she used to have freckles and a totally different color palette!!#i think i was trying to keep her and desa's color profiles separate at first. clearly I didn't stick with that#OH AND THE EARS. obviously. i keep forgetting that that changed lmao#my art#my ocs#iryna oc#bweirdoctober#bweirdoctober2024#digital aritst#oc art#artists on tumblr#illustration#oc tober

Hello! Hope you're having a great day/night! I absolutely adore your art, you are one of my favourite artists. I love the way you shade and do backrounds. Also everytime I get into a new show I immediately see your art for it??
I was wondering if you had any advice on drawing more realistically (backrounds, anatomy etc) but still keeping a style?
Hey hey!
Thank you so much!
I have a pretty good understanding of facial structures, because before I got into drawing more semi-realisticly, I heavily focused on realistic portraits. Here are some example, these are from around 2019!
(yes, I was really into danmei and kpop back then, haha)
I just always loved drawing/painting faces and it was all I did. But at some point I realized that I wanted to do more than that because just portraits felt super restricting. So it took me around 2-3 years to somewhat find my style. Thought it would be fun to show a little timeline! Advice will follow afterwards :)
2020
I began working on my OCs in 2020 and since I didn't have an exact reference to work off of, I struggled a lot. My art from this year is super wonky.
2021
Still wonky, but the Lokius obsession was the jumpstart into finding my style! My work from this year is all over the place haha, I was experimenting a lot.
2022
This first ofmd piece is pretty much the first drawing where you can see where my style is gonna go, which I think is pretty cool! This is the year I made the biggest progress cos I was drawing SO much. These two pieces are only six months apart. The one on the right was the first time I gave drawing a background a proper go, too! It was a good year.
2023
And this is where I am now! I'm still constantly learning and improving, but I'd say I have a style you can recognize now!
Now here comes some actual advice, haha:
What I highly recommend you to do is to study your favorite artists as much as you can! I have like 5 A4 sketchbooks all from 2020 that I filled with sooooo many studies, where basically all I did was look at artists I like and copy how they draw stuff, to try and figure out how to stylize certain things. Some of my favorite artists are Ami Thompson, Velinxi and TB Choi. But I also liked to just scroll through pinterest and study all the art I came across that I liked! For example, if I saw a really great drawing of a pair of pants I would copy it many times in my sketchbook and try to learn how they stylized the folds. Doing this for a prolongued period of time will naturally improve your own work! It'll be difficult at first, but you gotta push through, it's gonna be worth it!
I also highly recommend studying unique faces to try and avoid the same-face syndrome. Find some cool looking people and try to draw them as simple as you can! Maybe even draw a little timeline where you first draw them as cartoon-y as you can, and keep going until you end up with a more detailed, realistic drawing. Maybe in the middle of it you find a step that feels the most fun to you, so you can try to build on that! It's a great way to figure out what kind of style might be the best for you.
Here are some cool faces I found on pinterest!
I have a pinterest board with many more!
One REALLY important part of learning how to draw all kinds of things is to understand forms and shapes and how to manipulate them. I have so many pages in my sketchbook filled with just shapes that I drew from all kinds of angles without any references.
This is a great video on it:
6 Ways to Draw Anything by Proko
Learning how to do this is so crucial! Young artists often think they first have to learn all kinds of detailed anatomy before doing anything else, but all that's gonna do is make you tired and hate drawing. Shapes are where it's at! Once you understand how shapes work and which ones to use for certain parts of bodies or objects, drawing is gonna get so much easier! Once you understand them, you can get into details such as muscles and bones!
And honestly the most important point is to just absolutely love what you're doing! I wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't for the fact that I get extreme hyperfixations on certain media that turn me into some kind of beast where I can suddenly draw 10 detailed illustrations a week, haha. Just be passionate about what you do, find something you REALLY love and go crazy!
I really hope this was somewhat helpful! My inbox is always open if there's any more questions :)
#responding to these has made me realize how much I love helping you guys out#it's genuinely really fun and I just hope it's actually helpful haha#my art#art advice#art resources#ask#anon

A non-comprehensive list of favorite songs that came out in 2024
Elbow, "Things I've Been Telling Myself For Years" [YOUTUBE] alt-rock Haven't been super thrilled by the past 2 or 3 Elbow albums but they're back in fine form with Audio Vertigo. Swinging for the bleachers, getting a little weird with it again, thank god. This one's got my favorite verses on the album: I'm the dashboard hula girl of nodding self-deception Here's to never accepting slight adjustment or correction... Of course I'll live to ninety-six and fix the welfare state I'll build a house with these two hands, my face above the gate I haven't paid for cabs or beers or met a cunt in twenty years Like all that outrun poverty, all I have was coming to me Things I've been telling myself for years
TWRP, "Content 4 U" [YOUTUBE] pop Highly danceable, highly relatable. First heard this on the Digital Nightmare tour this spring. After shaking my ass and giggling into the April night air, the lyrics sink in and I'm doing that dead eyed Lisa Simpson stare at the pavement because yeah that's. That's trying to live from any creative hustle in this bitch of a 21st century. Excellent work, boys, I hate it. I love it.
St. Vincent, "Big Time Nothing" [YOUTUBE] alt-pop What's the big deal this is just "Numb" over the bass line from "Army of Me" with a little Laurie Anderson and Talking Heads thrown in and wait hold up this rules
Oranssi Pazuzu, "Muuntautuja" [YOUTUBE] (link fixed!) prog/psych/black metal Goes hard and slow. A pulsating, hypnotic onslaught of black smoke and sandpaper. The whole album's incredible but this is probably my favorite track.
Kendrick Lamar, "Euphoria" [YOUTUBE] hip hop I mean, it's Kendrick Lamar. Dude's a fuckin Godzilla across the musical landscape. "Not Like Us" was the splashier hit of the summer, but this is the one that stayed with me. (Listening again while writing this and. Jesus, It's... it's 6 solid minutes of sticking your hand right on a hot burner.)
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, "Antarctica" [YOUTUBE] southern rock A fun (ironically) warm summer jam that fuckin blew the doors off live. Easily my fave from their most recent album.
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, "Wild God" [YOUTUBE] alt-rock/symphonic Really sneaks up on you, like a mumbly guy in the coffee shop. What's he writing? "Moving through your body like a prehistoric bird?" Huh, Looks intriguiOH HOLY SHIT HE HAS A CHORUS WITH HIM.
John Grant, "All That School for Nothing" [YOUTUBE] alt-pop/funk John Grant's got this particular nasty (complimentary) streak, a deep-seated gay cynicism that reminds me of Hidden Cameras at their best, but with more lush and varied instrumentals. His lyrics are always tops, and this one's no exception. The whole album, The Art of the Lie, is great, with "Marbles" being another delight.
Ninja Sex Party, "Let's Save The Earth" [YOUTUBE] comedy pop Feels silly to put this one in alongside the rest, but... I mean it's NSP. They do goofs, not a poetic dissection of the zeitgeist. I actually heard this one on tour in Fall 2022 and it brought the house down--I might actually prefer it live with audience participation TBH. This has become me and Brett's karaoke go-to.
A.G. Cook, "Soulbreaker" [YOUTUBE] electronic Deceptively simple chord progression becomes healing, memorable. The animated video for this is essential viewing, IMO. Wild art style and cool concept. This song makes me feel like things might turn out okay.
Elbow, "Balu" [YOUTUBE] alt-rock Probably my most played track of the entire year. Apparently this is a semi-fictional tribute to a beloved cousin or nephew? Once again back with the incredible lyrics. Probably my favorite line of the entire year: I'll never be home without you, but I'll never grow in your shadow. Anyway that bass/keyboard line is sending me to the center of the galaxy

This year's art summary!
More mha! More izkt! More green and more purple? This one seems darker than the previous year, but I feel like my works became more detailed perhaps? It seems like there's definitely more going on here
Previous years! ⬇️
You can actually see when my mha brainrot started lmao
I got my first drawing tablet in 2019, I was drawing digitally before that, sure, but since then it became more serious to me ig?
Don't remember much of 2020, I couldn't use my pc for some time and then ig I just didn't have any motivation, in august I made an account on twt and started drawing again
In 2021 I got into eighty six anime, it was the first fandom where I got sorta recognised for my art, I guess there my love for symbolic angsty illustration showed up for the first time, tho this phase didn't last long
I didn't have a summary for 2022 so I had to quickly throw together smth, it was pain in the ass cuz all my works were scattered in multiple folders, and I had some trouble finding pieces for some months so I had to put wips into january and april
2022 was also a year where I struggled the most with my style, I was lost and didn't know what I wanted to create, it was only after I got into mha I was able to find joy in drawing again
In 2023 I got into mha and became obsessed, I don't even know how it happened but before I knew it I was drawing nonstop, I stated getting more attention and support, I feel like it really helped me to keep going, bit by bit I was figuring out how I want to draw
And now we're in 2024! I'm trying to put more work and thought into my works, I feel like I've finally found myself, I used to struggle with sticking to one style and aesthetic, but now I've learnt to just draw whatever the hell I want
I'll keep improving myself to become even better next year! Thank you for your support!
#art summary 2024#bnha#mha#my hero academia#boku no hero academia#should I tag mha here? hm.#fanart#bkdk#SHOULD I TAG BKDK HERE??? HM.#i really don't know how to tag this

How it took a whole year and six pieces to evolve a concept
Sometimes you have a great idea, but the finished art looks a lot worse than how you imagined it, and that’s okay! You can always shelve it and come back to it later when you have a lightbulb moment on how to improve it. In my case it took multiple iterations as well as a style evolution throughout the process.
~~~~~
1. Aquarium II - Nov 14, 2021
I started with a pretty solid idea of fish inside glass baubles of water, with a palette of yellow, orange, pink, lavender, and sky blue. I kind of like how the design turned out with the filigree and the cats, but the palette just wasn’t working out. It’s probably because I didn’t put in enough contrast and dark areas, but I hit a wall with this one and put it aside, unfinished.
~~~~~
2. Koi Pond (Winter) - Jan 3, 2022
Using the palette of ‘Aquarium II’ as well as the two circling koi, I expanded it into a pond of circling fish. I did like this one and even made an animation of the fish swimming, but it still felt like something was missing.
~~~~~
3. Circular Motion - Feb 21, 2022
I decided to go full Escher with the fish tessellation (everything is flush, no spaces between) and also push the palette and contrast. I really didn’t like the result. The colours look dull and bland, and the fish look weird. It was partly because of this piece that I decided I wouldn’t do perfect tessellations if it made the animals look weird.
~~~~~
4. Aquarium - May 25, 2022
The first true success from this concept! This is part of the trio that uses the same palette, including ‘Arboretum’ and ‘Archives’. I put the aquatic creatures in clear baubles once again, and my lineart style is more established at this time.
~~~~~
5. Koi Pond - Jun 18, 2022
I fell in love with this palette of yellow, orange, pink, green, and dark green. It’s just a recolour of the previous ‘Koi Pond (Winter)’, but the lines feel wishy-washy to me now that my style has thicker lineart.
~~~~~
6. Flow - Dec 21, 2022
The final success of this concept! This is part of another trio that includes ‘Flock’ and the upcoming ‘Flutter’. I kept to the theme by adding cats observing the main subject, and used a minimal palette so that the center koi would stand out more.
~~~~~
In the end, I am still attached to the two ‘Koi Pond’ variations. I want to get them to a place where I feel like they are complete, but I don’t yet know how. So, they will just hang out in their respective folders until then.
6th Birthday
Today is the day I made my main two boys, Rune and Hyde, exactly 6 years ago, in 2018. These are the only two I keep up with with that, since they’re my longest lasting ocs and I like to use it to keep up with my progress every year. So I thought I’d share the drawings I made for them on their birthday every year, including the first drawings I ever made of them and share a bit of their history. And give a brief history of my art journey along with that.
These are their very first sketches, before I figured out their personality, backstory, or even that they’d be a couple. Some key elements are already there, like Rune’s earring (which I’d actually forgotten about for a while until I looked at this sketch again), and Hyde’s scar on his lip (although, not very visible.)
I made this not long after. They were originally part of a cast of characters which was supposed to be more of a found-family thing. I thought they were going to be side characters and that Selene would be the main character. But as the story developed, I grew to love them more and wanted to focus on them. Half this cast is gone now, and the ghost girl is no longer a ghost, simply a human (that’s Raven). This world no longer has mermaids, that’s become entirely its own thing. The purple mermaid stuck around for a while as a human, as more of a regular friend to Hyde in the village, but in the end, I also got rid of her. The only one I kinda miss is the zombie boy, he was cute. But he didn’t serve much of a purpose, other than his existence hinting at Selene’s experiments. I guess he’s been replaced by a rat now, poor boy.
This was their first birthday, when I started getting more comfortable with digital art. I was quite wishy-washy about Rune and Hyde’s dynamic for a while, which one of them would be wearing the pants, sort of. That’s probably why Hyde is so small here. Now, neither are more dominant in the relationship than the other.
I didn’t do much for their second birthday. I didn’t draw much at all that year. Especially not them, because 2020 is the year where I lost interest in them for a while and started developing both Team of Thieves and Merfolk. (More on that another time.)
In 2021, my interest in them still hadn’t come back all the way, but I did still care about them. They look a bit awkward, because I was developing a lot in my style and hadn’t drawn them in this new style before. I did a lot with markers at this time, so I made a marker drawing.
2022 is when my interest in them finally came back. I started reworking the book that I’d already written before, an early version of Please, Go Home, and I started making illustrations for it. At the end of the year, I scrapped all of it and began completely rewriting it into what it is today. This was around the point where about 90% of my art became digital. I still like traditional and I want to do it more often, but digital is just so convenient.
This illustration was originally supposed to be animated for a school project (which is why Hyde’s hands are hidden in his sleeves, much easier to animate), but that ended up falling through. So I made it into a more detailed illustration. A lot of the art I made around this time was school work, so I had to shove my characters in wherever I could.
And here we are today, 2024. They’ve been a consistent presence in my art all this time, and now they have their own book out there, and their sequel is currently being written. These two have been with me for six years and I don’t see them ever leaving.
These long illustrations are made for bookmarks, which I may or may not actually get printed. Which is why they’re so long. Perfect for a phone background, though :)
Forefront 7: Black Noir’s Animated Psyche in The Boys - Season 3 (2022)
Season 3 of The Boys (2019-present) finally unveils more of the shrouded mystery that is Black Noir. One of the ‘‘Seven’’, he never utters a word and communicates only in writing in important situations. Not much is previously known about him other than his proficiency in the martial arts and of his super strength and heightened senses.
Background
We first get a glimpse of his background in season 3, with the mention of Soldier Boy and his entourage. Soldier Boy ends up violently beating Noir’s head and sticking it on top of a burning car. This incident leaves Noir brutally disfigured, causing his brain to regress and get stuck at the mental age of a child. It also causes him to experience hallucinations and delusions of cartoon characters which he imagines as his friends.
Image: The Boys Season 3 (2022) ‘ Here Comes a Candle to Light You to Bed’ | Prime Video
Style
The Boy’s showrunner, Eric Kripke, detailed that they wanted to show Noir’s inner thoughts during his contemplation and brooding because he has no one he can speak with. The show had already done flashbacks to introduce Soldier Boy’s connection to him and this time, they wanted to refrain from repeating the same style of storytelling. They intended on having the animations look like classic Disney, as ‘‘if Martin Scorsese made Snow White’’. These sweet-looking, fluid characters were to present the flashback in the most brutal fashion (Kripke, 2022).
Image: The Boys Season 3 (2022) ‘ Here Comes a Candle to Light You to Bed’ | Prime Video
This strange animated ‘‘dialogue’’ and the flahback made more sense considering Noir’s stunted mental state and finally revealed a glimpse of what the inside of the mystery super’s head looked like.
Psyche
We see him interact with his imaginary cartoon friends, including pizza mascot Buster Beaver, who apparently previously helped him deal with a mass murder, and a boner in school (Anderton, 2022).
Although it is implied that they are ever present, his imaginary friends seem to try and protect him. It seems like he has conjured them up as a form of protection for his mental state, to help him deal with his doings and with traumatic incidents.
When he briefly escapes from Vought’s clutches after learning of Soldier Boy’s return, he sits at an abandoned, dusty Buster Beaver restaurant to seemingly gather his thoughts. This is when Buster Beaver reassures him. We see the flashback in the same, adorably animated style, showcasing the most violent battle (Zalben, 2022).
Image: The Boys Season 3 (2022) ‘ Here Comes a Candle to Light You to Bed’ | Prime Video
Influence
Animation can achieve an idiosyncratic style of storytelling that live-action could struggle with, since it is devoid of the same limitations. This blended style has not been used much in live-action for such a profound execution, before. For this blend of 2D animation and live-action, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Mary Poppins, and even comics like Spider-Ham, which features a pig version of Spider-Man and a cat version of Captain America were referenced by the Animators at Six Point Harness (Davis, 2022). The team behind The Boys successfully uses animation to not only stylise this episode but to also appropriately address Black Noir’s stunted, child-like brain while also adding character.
My work often features inward and outward perspective of the characters - of themselves and of the world. This is a great way to execute an episode like this one, much like the imaginary companion that I manifested in my film for Optical Sound, which follows a lonely protagonist conjuring up a shadow to keep them company and mute their feeling of desolation and loneliness.
Zanmataisei Demonbane (2022) characters. Chapter 5: The ash
Chapter 5 The ash - A Poem of Evil
"This is a room the of throne. The gloom is heald at bat by the light of torches. In those ever-burning sacred flames one can sometimes catch the glimpse of outerworldly shadows. Is this really an illusion?
Six shadows, illuminated by the torches, danced back and forth around the empty throne." The grimoire "Necronomicon" has manifested in this universe."
Necronomicon the Ash.
"The remains of burnt mythology. A patchwork of dead words
."Grimoire. One that cuts off evil. Chaotic good. The Aeon (upright).
Commonly known as Ash. This story main heroine, and this time's Necronomicon. The grimoire "Necronomicon" does not exist in this world; she is merely a collection of remnants of the "Necronomicon" that once existed in a parallels universes, Hence the name "Ashes of the Necronomicon" or the Death Maiden. She has a cruel personality and a rough tone of voice. She is always filled with anger and hates the way the world is. Although she is a dangerous girl, she is quite honest when it comes to the magician she has made a contract with.
The heroine is a dog-like who thinks she is superior to her owner. Unlike Al- Azif, who masters was used to fight in Magius Style, she is the type who takes the initiative and fights himself. She favors a weapon that is a brutal modified version of Barzai's scimitar commonly known as the Barzai Chainsaw.It's essentially the same thing of the final boss of "Nitroplus Blasters.*
(*A Nitroplus fight game that apparently is canon in Demonbane mythos. Especially the "adventure mode" witch is a sequel to kishin hishou)
Augustus
"Come, my sword, My steel, With the help of the golden light of twilight"
Split Spirit. Outer God. Chaos. Space. Devil (Reversed)
A high-ranking official in the magical society Black Lodge but in fact, she is the True leader and the true commander of the Anti-Cross. She is an honest, upstanding lady. At times she acts as a faithful official, and at other she is a strict teacher, guiding the still immature Grand Master Myself... but the truth is that she is slowly undermining him. She is the incarnation of the evil god Nyarlathotep, and unlike the old Augustus, she is fully aware of this. She is incredibly strong, but doesn't fight when it matters most.
Tiberius
"Oh my... Blood and gore It's totally useless"
Necromancer. Neutral. Death (reversed)
One of the Anti-Cross, a high-ranking member of the Black Lodge. A magician who made a contract with "De vermis mysteris." A handsome man who wears a clown-like costume and speaks in an fraternal-like manner. Although he has an easygoing and elusive personality, he is cheerful, friendly, and considerate. His real name is Julian. He is the same person as Tiberius from the original work. Unlike the old Tiberius who became a zombie and turned evil, in this work he is a man of love who believes in the goodness of humans even though he has stepped into the world of darkness.
Caligula
"I hate humans. You have taken our sea from us."Demon. Ninja. Chaotic. Space. Sun (reversed)
One of the Anti-Cross, a high-ranking leader of the Black Lodge. Tall, thin, half-fish-man. A survivor of Innsmouth, a descendant of the royal family of the underwater city of Y'ha- nthlei. He is stubborn and proud, but also has a strong sense of justice
Claudius
"Yes, Yes l'am Claudius, My main job is as an evil god hunter. I also work as a high-ranking in a evil organization executive part-time."
Evil god hunter. Neutral Lawful. Chariot (upright)
A high-ranking member of the Black Lodge, one of the Anti-Cross, and a female student in the Exorcism Department at Miskatonic University. She once served as an assistant to Professor Shrewsbury and fought against the evil gods cults. However, she abandoned Shrewsbury, who had become Hastur's servant, and disappeared after stealing the grimoire "Celaeno Fragments." She then joined the Black Lodge. Her real name is Andrea Ferran. She is a modern schoolgirl. She is frivolous and easy-going but she can also be quite harsh. Due to her teacher's influence, she is a physical attack magician.
Hazuki
"That's shameless, Andrea."
Spellbook. Neutral. Space. Chariot (upright)
The incarnation of the grimoire "Celeano Fragment." The author, Laban Shrewsbury, had become the servant of an evil god, so she left him together with Claudius. She currently has a contract with Claudius, who gives her power. Perhaps because it is not Claudius's preference, she is unable to summon the magical machine Byakhe, and it is still being controlled by Shrewsbury.
Vespausianus
"Wonderful! wonderful! I have reached the land of the underworld"
Demon. toy possessor. Chaos. Hermit (reverse)
One of the Anti-Cross, a high-ranking member of the Black Lodge. A Japanese scholar and explorer. During an expedition in search of the mythical continent Hyperborea, he encountered the evil god Rlim- Shaikort, and was transformed into a demon. Perhaps due to the effects of his transformation he is possessed by three mechanicalmonsters named Galba, Oto, and Vitellius. He is extremely shady and suggestive, and always gives off the air that he is ready to betray at any time.
Titus
"Cultes de Goules... is surprisingly boring, Even after i being reincarnated as a demon, What joy could there be?"
Swordsman. True Neutral. Temperance (Upright)
A master of the Ukami clan's traditional school, the Hishinryu school, and a veteran who survived the upheaval of the late Edo period. He real name is Narukanna. He is the same person as Titus from the previous work, but did not make a contract with the Grimoire "Cult de goules" As result, despite being human, his strength reaches superhuman levels, and as a swordsman he is far stronger than Titus was.
Goliath
A giant mobile weapon developed by Ruri Hadou mother, Augustina Ada Darleth. It has been upgraded over time and is mass- produced as the STEEAL's main weapon. The design also has specially customized aircraft. Ruri herself pilots the Goliath and goes out on missions, mainly during disaster relief efforts.
Robot juggernaut
A critter summoned by Augustus. It is about 10 meters long and is one of the strongest critters around. However, summoning critters is just one of Augustus' abilities
Galba, Otho, and Vitellius
Mechanical monsters called a critters possesses Vespausianus. A human possessed by a critter is called a toy possessor and the owner can control it according to his will. The critters vary in size, but the three that Vespausianus controls are roughly the size of a medium- sized to large vehicle. A common feature of all Critters is that they have a screw winding somewhere on their body. The identity of the critter is unknown. Some say that they are the remains of Clockwork Phantom*, an evil deity in the form of a Machine.
(*The final boss and Nyarlathotep avatar in kishin hishou demonbane)
Diana
The girl from one of the grimoires that the protagonist can chooses. They sometimes fight together in Demonbane Darkness. Diana is the embodiment of "legacy of gold". She is a intelligent and very poetic girl
Bell
The incarnation of "de vermis mysteris." A girl from a grimoire who has a contract with Tiberius. Often commits suicide (and then revives)
Aqua
The incarnation of "Cthaat aquadingen." A demon. In fact, her compatibility with Demonbane Darkness is second only to "Necronomicon."
Kanata
The incarnation of the "Book of Eibon." She has a very sharp tongue, but is also genuinely sweet.It is a great grimoire on a par with the Necronomicon and the Book of Nameless rituals. However, there are very few magicians who can master it.
Lars
The incarnation of the "Cultes de Goules."She tried to make a deal with Titus but was refused.She's an arrogant character, but a bit pathetic.
Demonbane Darkness
Pilot: Grand Master Myself (protagonist)
Spellbook: Necronomicon the Ash
As part of my research, I will be watching as many independent films as I can and review each one to help guide my own practice and help me set more realistic expectations of what I could potentially produce for my own film.
To start, I watched the short film Pachyderme (2022):
youtube
Which is a blend of 3D and 2D animation. According to Wikipedia, there was a team of six who worked on this film.
The film had a subtle narrative; the art style made it feel almost like a children's storybook which juxtaposed the story of childhood abuse. I enjoyed the simplistic art style, especially the texture from the brushes used. I also liked that only certain elements were animated in a scene, for instance the background was a still image and only the character was animated. This is likely a technique that I will also use for my project to make it simpler.
I also liked that in some instances, the shot was a still image, moving to another still image to set the scene, you can show a lot of information without actually animating something in the scene and acheiving it instead with camera shots/angles.
QUESTIONS okay!
What is your favourite art of Thomastair, Ghostwriter, and Wessa?
Who are your top 5 TSC characters and why?
What's your all time favourite meal?
What's your favourite of your own TSC fics?
Can we have a snippet of a WIP? ❤️
Hey 💜
What is your favourite art of Thomastair, Ghostwriter, and Wessa?
I really love the Thomastair art Sasha Coleman did for CoT with them outside! (And Thomas has freckles too on that one so it's a bonus). I don't have a link because it's not on the artist's IG
I also love @agnes-draws's art of Thomastair with Zachary and little Thomastair 🥹 and a lot of @lekawi's art, esp. the medieval Thomastair piece: https://www.instagram.com/p/CbDjLshrPrN/
My most fave of Ghostwriter is surely this dancing piece by loweana.art because it's ethereal and soft I love realistic style so much! https://www.instagram.com/p/CTfmo_FAAOX/
I also love this by lasq.draws (one of my favorite artists bc of adsom too) https://www.instagram.com/p/CMplzhmJo8f/
Of Wessa I think Charlie Bowater's art for the 2022 TLH calendar it's the best (like I said, I love realistic style a lot!!) https://www.instagram.com/p/CInOWF_HV1-/
Who are your top 5 TSC characters and why?
Well, the first character is Will because he is so deep and he's the first TSC character I've ever liked for longer after I read a book series after years. I love his sense of humor and how he's silly but he is someone who would do anything for the people he loves
Then comes Alastair, who I can relate a lot to because we have a lot of things in common (especially with the past teen me) and we deal with people in a similar manner. We also have a similar familiar situation and Idk when I see Alastair and where he arrived at the end of the series, I have hope that things can get better for me too. I project a lot onto Alastair ehm lol
And on the other side there's Lucie who is like the younger part of me who used to be so excited about life and who has the same hobby I have (writing). I like that she's a bubbly character but she's also fearless and a bit unhinged and that's a part of me I want to find again (the innocent girl)
Then there is Matthew that has a killer fashion style and a great sense of humor and I also project on him. He had an uplifting arc that didn't end tragically (I'm sure another author would've chosen the easy way out) so it was a positive example to me because I am often in a similar spot mentally. So it made me think there is hope
And then let's pretend they are six and not five because I also need to mention Jesse and Thomas. I may not mention it enough but I just love them and they are positive characters to me, comfort characters. Thomas is courageous and he's a little stubborn and he would try to do anything to save the people he loves. And he loves learning languages which is something we often forget!!! I like of Jesse that he's a little arrogant and bookish and that he is reserved. Needles to say I also heavily project on him and I find him relatable as well
What's your all time favourite meal?
Gnocchi for sure <3
What's your favourite of your own TSC fics?
I think Farewell, Farewell. One Kiss and I'll Descend because it was my longest fic and it's a comfort fic
Can we have a snippet of a WIP? ❤️
I don't have any longer wips right now, but I have this piece from a James and Jesse fic where they train together and Jesse confides in James
“I am feeling way better now,” Jesse said after they gathered their things, ready to go back to their rooms to change for dinner. “Thanks for the runes.” “Don’t mention it,” James smiled, but there was still a hint of worry in his golden eyes. “But you should look for help. You could go to the Silent Brothers or if you want privacy, I could call for uncle Jem.”
Thanks for the questions <3
Comic artists researches. Part 1
Frank Miller:
Frank Miller is an American comic book artist, comic book writer, and screenwriter known for his comic book stories and graphic novels such as his run on Daredevil, for which he created the character Elektra, and subsequent Daredevil: Born Again, The Dark Knight Returns, Batman: Year One, Sin City, and 300.
What is Frank Miller doing now?
On April 28, 2022, it was reported that Miller was launching an American comic book publishing company titled Frank Miller Presents, or FMP. Miller will act as the company's president and editor-in-chief, working alongside Dan DiDio as publisher and chief operating officer Silenn Thomas.
Did Frank Miller draw Daredevil?
He started out with minor tasks, like drawing covers and short stories for Spiderman anthologies. Then, at the beginning of 1979, came the big break: Miller became the official artist for Daredevil, one of Marvel's lesser-known series.
Who influenced Frank Miller?
Among his graphic influences were Neal Adams, Ernie Bushmiller, Guido Crepax, Will Eisner, Jack Kirby and Goseki Kojima. His made his debut in 1978 with contributions to Gold Key's The Twilight Zone. He soon also drew for DC anthologies and Marvel titles like 'Spectacular Spider-Man' and 'John Carter: Warlord of Mars'.
My opinion for this artist of his art style is very interesting for my opinion, that he uses some specific colours for different comic he made for Sin city, Daredevil and 300. As my point of view toward his comic is a mixed with a big art of scene in the comic and four small boxes to show what is going on with that scene which is very interesting to me.
John Romita Jr.:
John Salvatore Romita is an American comics artist best known for his extensive work for Marvel Comics from the 1970s to the 2010s. He is the son of artist John Romita Sr.
When did John Romita Jr draw Spider-Man?
Romita Jr. made a name for himself as a key Marvel artist thanks in large part to his work on Spider-Man. He first drew the character in 1977, as the rising star son of the legendary John Romita Sr., and went on to become one of the definitive pencillers to ever work on the character.
What was the first comic of John Romita Jr?
Romita Jr. began his career at Marvel UK, doing sketches for covers of reprints. His American debut was with a six-page story entitled "Chaos at the Coffee Bean!" in The Amazing Spider-Man Annual (1977)
Is John Romita Jr back at Marvel?
He drew many of Marvel's greatest characters, and then moved to DC for a short period, where he also drew their greatest characters. John Romita Jr. has since returned to Marvel, getting his old job on The Amazing Spider-Man back.
My opinion for this artist of his art style is very pop culture-like as he is uses pop colours for example, red, blue, orange, yellow, etc. As he worked for Marvel as he did his work on Spider-Man as he first dew the character in 1977 as he is going to work back on the Spider-Man for Marvel.
Brian Bolland:
Brian Bolland is a British comics artist. Best known in the United Kingdom as one of the Judge Dredd artists for British comics anthology 2000 AD, he spearheaded the 'British Invasion' of the American comics industry, and in 1982 produced the artwork alongside author Mike W. Barr on Camelot 3000, which was DC Comics' first 12-issue comicbook maxiseries created for the direct market.
What inspired Brian Bolland?
As early as 1962, aged 11, Bolland remembers thinking that "Carmine Infantino's work on the Flash and Gil Kane's on Green Lantern and the Atom had a sophistication about it that I hadn't [previously] seen." He would later cite Kane and Alex Toth as "pinnacle[s] of excellence," alongside Curt Swan, Murphy Anderson
You'll be surprised to hear that even though Judge Dredd had been in 2000AD since Prog 2 the editors weren't sure which of the interior characters would sell the comic best if that character was on the cover. Artists like me just came up with cover ideas and, if they liked them, we'd draw the cover and they would write a one-page text story based on it to go inside. These early covers of mine fall into that category.
Other covers followed for nearly a third of the first 30 progs, as well as stand-alone pages and some inking duties on Gibbons' Dan Dare. Already familiar with Nick Landau (acting editor), when another artist dropped out, Bolland was called directly to complete a Judge Dredd story in Prog 41 (3 Dec 77) and soon was established as a regular artist on the series. "From that point on," writes Bolland, "either he [Landau] or his successor Steve MacManus called me direct whenever they wanted me to do a Dredd story."
Bolland's early work on Judge Dredd was much influenced by McMahon, a talented newcomer whose idiosyncratic style was fuelling the interest in the new character. Bolland thought McMahon was "terrific, the real ideas man on Dredd," but noted that McMahon's approach was "very impressionistic," while the "average comics reader, certainly at the time, does tend to prefer realism." Bolland therefore states that he "aped Mike's genius... and then reinterpreted [Dredd] in a style which actually borrowed a lot from the work of the American artists," retaining McMahon's "granite-jawed" look but bringing a level of realism and fine detail to the character, which Mark Salisbury says "finally cemented the iconic image."
My opinion for this artist of his art style is horrific but in a good way as he is showing us in the comic with joker and batman as showing the Joker a villain in a horrific, disgusting and creepy style as he is showing toward us in world that the style of his is amazing as he did a well done of showing the art style on the comic book to show what horrific is it.
Adding my reasoning as to why I think they would be good options
Hannah Grae - female rock artist who is fairly new to the industry who only started releasing music in 2022 but has a decent following and has an upcoming performance at Lollapalooza Stockholm
Lauren Aquilina - singer/songwriter who’s toured a few times and been on fan wishlists for a Eurovision for a few years now. She’s worked with Reiley and follows a few other Eurovision artists on Instagram, plus she watches it annually. Unrelated but since she’s half Maltese and has a decent following in Malta she’s going to get high points in the jury from Malta
Rina Sawayama - I am one of the many people who think she’d do great at Eurovision. Fun fact: Lauren Aquilina has written a few of her songs and toured with her in the US
Natalie May Paris - original Jane Seymour in SIX the musical, wished Monika Linkyte good luck on the day of the grand final and follows both Sam Ryder and Mae Muller on Instagram. She has a very powerful voice and can do pretty much anything that is thrown at her, but since she is currently part of the US SIX tour and will be doing it next year as well a participation in 2024 isn’t likely
Manw Robin - JESC 2018 representative for Wales and still does singing and acting quite a bit, if she were to get chosen we would probably get a Welsh language ballad
Alffa - Rock duo that has the most Spotify streams for a Welsh language song, we would get a Welsh rock song if they were chosen
Cory Spedding - JESC 2004 runner-up for the UK, still the best result for the UK in the contest. She still sings and writes her own songs
Daughter - English Indie Folk band that is also my favorite band, their style of music is kind of similar to zalagaspar (Slovenia 2019)
Other acts not listed in the original post
JC Stewart - hails from Northern Ireland and has worked with Brooke Scullion in the past, could do Ireland or UK
Art School Girlfriend - a solo musician from North Wales, I’m using the same logic here as with Daughter
I just listed several musicians that I know of and I don’t know of any Scottish acts off the top of my head but there are definitely going to be some great options that I don’t know about
Artists I think should represent the UK in Eurovision in the future
Hannah Grae
Lauren Aquilina
Rina Sawayama
Natalie May Paris
Manw Robin
Alffa
Cory Spedding
Daughter
In defense of Enchanted's (2007) Robert.
So, Enchanted is probably one of my favorite Disney movies. I love how it blends classic 2D animation with live action, the great soundtrack, and memorable characters.
And about the characters, I love them. Giselle, Robert, Nancy, and Edward. I especially like Nancy and Edward, and am so glad they returned for the sequel Disenchanted (2022).
I'm glad they had each other in the end. And who would pass up the opportunity to live in a fairytale land, where your biggest problems are the occasional trolls or dragons? And you don't have to worry about student loans or nuclear warfare!
Because I want to see more of Nancy and Edward, I look for fanart and fanfiction of them. This brings me to their pairing tag on Archive of Our Own. There are some great fanfics about them, but while browsing the tag, I came across a fic that I wanted to discuss now.
By all means, there was nothing mechanically wrong with it. Spelling, grammar, etc. And there's some fascinating ideas in there, like the "return" (?) of Queen Narissa in Nancy's dreams to tempt her and persuade her to learn magic. But I take issue with the author's depiction of Robert.
In Enchanted, we never know the ages of the characters, and nothing has been confirmed by the writers/directors/etc.
The fanfic author seems to think that Robert is 40 however, and Giselle is 18. So of course the author has Nancy react with shock (which makes no sense because she has met Giselle and can judge for herself how old she is), and the author basically drags Robert's name through the mud, saying how "he didn't want a woman who could challenge him".
I could just leave this at that, since this is "fan"-fiction after all, and it's not supposed to be entirely accurate. But I was quite surprised to discover that there is a portion of Enchanted's viewers, who have similar opinions on Robert. Even going as far back as 2007-2008.
Therefore, I would like to use this post to refute a couple of the most common claims against Robert's character.
#1. The "age difference"
Like I mentioned before, there is no official confirmation from either the movies, or staff who worked on the movies, on the character's ages (other than Morgan, Robert's six year old daughter).
As such, it is not fair to assume things about the characters, reflecting their actions in respect to those "ages". It is not fair to villainize Robert for being in a relationship with a woman "younger" than him, when we don't even know their actual ages.
I assume the aforementioned fanfic writer thought that Robert was 40 because of the actor, Patrick Dempsey's age. He was 40 years old when Enchanted came out.
If you're using the actor's age to estimate the character's ages, than let's be impartial here, okay? Amy Adams was 33, Idina Menzel was 36, and James Marsden was 34, when Enchanted came out.
On the topic of age differences in relationships however, let's step back from Enchanted for a moment and discuss it.
An age difference is fine. If both parties are consenting adults, then they are allowed to be in a relationship. As an outsider observing that relationship, you may have problems with it because it is not what you personally agree with, but this is not about you. This is their relationship, and thusly, no outside party should interfere with the wishes of two capable and consenting adults.
Therefore, responsibility for the age difference in relationships should fall on the parties involved. Both parties should be prepared for the differences in maturity and life experience compared to their partner.
Back to Enchanted, I believe that the four main characters are similar in age to each other. Giselle and Edward, the reason the audience may be led to think they are younger than they actually are, is because of their animation in Andalasia, and the way they act.
The animation style/art style of the fairytale land of Andalasia is very ambiguous. It is not clear how old Giselle and Edward are from the art style alone. Even Nancy, when marrying Edward at the end of the movie, looks younger than she was when she was in live action.
If you observe Nancy and Edward in Disenchanted, which takes place ten years later, Edward has hardly changed at all in the 2D art style. Nor has Nancy, other than changing her hair with bangs.
Giselle acts immature because she was an orphan woman living by herself in a magical forest. Her only company in the forest is the animals who raised her.
Similarly, Edward only acts "immature" because of the environment he was raised in. Queen Narissa definitely did not educate Edward as a prince, since that would make him more capable of going against her. Edward's father, the King, is not there to raise him either.
Their immaturity comes mainly from their backgrounds, not really because of age differences with their partners.
Plus, as shown in Disenchanted, Giselle and Robert have a baby ten years after Enchanted. Even if Giselle was inexperienced in "sexual relationships", it took them ten years to have a baby. Robert clearly did not rush things with Giselle, on account of her immaturity. Nor did he take advantage of her immaturity.
#2. Robert's interactions with Giselle
When Robert first meets Giselle, she is someone with nowhere to go and who has no idea of the world around them. He is justifiably wary of her, and yet he stills allows her to rest in his home.
He is not heartless, and what he did was incredibly kind compared to what someone else would do in his shoes.
Nor does Robert "put Giselle down" and deliberately make her out to be someone she isn't. His attitude towards her throughout the movie does not stem from maliciousness, but practicality. After all, people in New York do not spontaneously burst into song everyday, or act the way Giselle does.
Robert is concerned for her, which is why he tells her not to sing, or to not believe "Prince Edward" is coming for her. He views her from the lens of someone from Earth, not Andalasia, which is why he didn't believe she was from a fairytale world.
In conclusion, Robert doesn't have to be your favorite character. But please don't accuse him of being a criminal, nor an evil person!
I think out of all the Captain drawings I’ve done, this is my favourite! Shunsui Kyoraku! 🤩 As I have said previously, I’m drawing six Captains in celebration of Bleach’s return. I’m on the fifth Captain now, and I don’t know if it was because Shunsui has a more complicated style that looks more interesting, or if it was the lighting or just everything just seemed to come together really well, but I love this piece. The red as well just compliments just what kind of man Shunsui is, and I love him for it. ❤️ I can’t wait to see the upcoming fights the new series has in store for him!
But that’s all for this one! If you like my art or want to see more Bleach fanart, stick around for more! 😊
Like this style? I’ve got more six more so Follow Me if you want to keep up to date! 5/7 - 1 2 3 4 HERE 6 7
Ectoberhaunt21 Master Post
Commentary Under the Cut
It has been supremely challenging and fun to do all of these prompts! I know I’m not a super prolific author and artist, but I really enjoy events like this. While it’s been hard on me to produce this sheer amount of content, it was engaging and active, giving me something to do and has motivated me to put out more content in a month than I would normally do in a year on my own. I also love seeing the improvement in my content from this year to last year, when I first took part in this event, along as throughout the event itself, I noticed improvement. While I might not have been able to fill all of the prompts I had planned to do, I also did much more than I originally planned as well, shooting to fill all of the prompts, both for each day. But with 29 fills, 3 of which have no prompt at all, instead inspired by other things throughout the event, I’m satisfied.
I’ve had so much fun throughout this entire event, from planning my fills, to the story line made up by the Ectoberhaunt crew, to drawing and writing my fills themselves. But of all of them, I do have some favorites.
I found my trend of horrible angst holds true, with some of my most severe fill, at least in my opinion, being Paved with Good Intentions. Vlad’s perspective of Danny’s grief was definitely something I found fun to write.
I noticed I used a lot of Outside, or limited perspective, especially with The Haunting of Amity Park, where you only get the perspective from the camera, so it ended up being mostly descriptions and dialog. The morticians perspective in A Way of Death was also amusing to write.
I tried out a lot of different art techniques this year as well. I messed with my style, bouncing back and forth between a more semi-realistic style and then a more cartoon-esque style for the more humorous fills, and then the simplistic style for a few other ones. I definitely think I’ve improved over the past month, just due to the sheer amount of art alone. The animations were fun themselves.
My ask box is always open if you want to talk to me about a particular piece.
See ya around!
CFWC Event Please Be Prompt!
What is it?
We here at CFWC miss the weekly prompts from Wackydrabbles, and we’d like to see if we’re not alone. To find out, we are sponsoring this three-week event. Each Sunday morning, beginning on Sunday, July 17th, we will post three prompts…a fluffy, angsty, and smutty one…to help inspire you.
Here’s your job!
Write a fic! Use one, two, or all three prompts. Just have fun and be creative! Submit your fic by the end of each week, and we’ll include it on our Fics of the Week List, a special masterlist at the end of the event, plus…there’s more!
Why are we doing this?
Mostly because we miss the prompts! But also, we’re throwing in a giveaway! One lucky winner will win an art commission from the talented @bayleedrawsx
What are the rules?
To be in the drawing, write and submit a Choices fanfic using one or more of the weekly prompts. It can be a drabble, an epic masterpiece, or anything in between.
You will receive one chance for each week in which you participate. If you participate for two weeks, you get two chances. Three weeks, three chances. It’s easy as that!
Please be sure to tag @choicesficwriterscreations, and use the #please be prompt tag. Also, bold the prompt in your fic to make it easy for us to find it.
How do you win?
On August 7th, a winner will be randomly selected by a spin of the wheel. Entrant's names will appear on the wheel once for each week they participated in the Please Be Prompt challenge. (Max of 3 entries per person.) The deadline for all submissions is 11:59 PM EST on Saturday, August 6, 2022.
Please see FAQs below for more information, and please feel free to reach out to either @jerzwriter or @lucy268-mod with any questions.
HAPPY WRITING!
(See FAQs below)
FAQs:
Do I have to use all three prompts? No, you can use one, two, or all three in your work. However, there is only one entry, per person, per week for the contest, regardless of how many prompts are used.
Can I use a fluffy prompt to write an angsty fic? Or an angsty prompt to write a smutty fic, etc.? Sure. If you think the prompt fits better in a different style of fic - go for it!
Can I change the prompt? In most cases, we will ask you to keep it exactly as is. If you have questions about a change, please contact @jerzwriter or @lucy268-mod.
Can I submit more than one fic for the Please Be Prompt challenge in any given week? Yes, but you will only receive one chance for the contest per week.
If I submit three fics during the last week, will I get three chances? No. You will be given one chance. It’s one chance per week participated.
Can I use a prompt published on July 17th during one of the following two weeks? Sure! We recommend using them within the same week, but all will be accepted toward the event until the deadline on Saturday, August 6th at 11:59 PM EST.
I submitted a fic for another event (Sunday Six, Fics of the Week, Throwback Thursday), but I did not use one of the prompts. Will I get a chance for the giveaway? No. In order to obtain a chance for the giveaway, you must use one of the tags in your fic.
