~"We carry the dead with us but we never let them guide us. We carry them selfishly." (for Kariom)
The Ever Pleasant Mr Bates
The guilt weighs him down immediately. It drags Kariom's gaze down, down, down towards the ground and sets his fingers---fingers that were now trembling faintly---searching for the bracelet he'd shoved into his pocket. Milosh's bracelet. Kariom finds it in short order and not even wrapping his fingers tightly around the wooden accessory stills that incessant trembling. Of course he carries them with him; be it selfishly or otherwise, he carries them with him because---
Kariom's grip on the bracelet tightens further still---tighter, tighter, tighter, feverishly tight---until he feels the ink dried into the carving of the all too familiar sualokin visages practically PULSE AGAINST THE SKIN OF HIS PALM AND FINGERS. It was trying to answer him in its own way. It was trying to heed his call and protect him like it'd promised to do in the Slough. It was trying to do the things it could no longer do.
"WHAT'S WRONG WITH BEING SELFISH....?" He had to carry them. He had to. He had to. He had to. He carried the Tsourai they'd lost; he carried Milosh, he even carried himself, Kariom carried all of them with shaking, struggling hands as far as he could and for as long as he could because if he loosened his grip for even a fraction of a second he would forget. The stars would steal them away as they had before and with each and every shuffling Kariom's grip loosened, his hands shook more and more and more as his memories fell and then, eventually, clicked back into place....but not quite. Never perfectly. Always tenuous. And that inevitable tenuousness made Kariom need them all the more.
Like the stars themselves the ones he'd lost still whispered in his ear and dogged his heels---even when he couldn't place their faces or voices for whatever stretch of time---they stayed and stayed and stayed and in return he reached for them again and again and again and wasn't that what one could consider being guided? A constellation. A memory. A word---friend, kiddo, brother---all of them continuing to light his way even in the darkest of places, no matter how many times he faltered and fell. Again. Again. Again. Just keep trying kiddo and one day---
Now Kariom's expression twists; a stark vulnerability surging through him only to color the star-reader's face and weaken his voice as his nails begin to dig small, bloody rivulets into his own palm.
".....I won't leave any of them behind." Not again. "I REFUSE TO LEAVE THEM BEHIND and I don't care how selfish that makes me."
#;;ask response: ic kariom#;;ask response: with squiggles#this is one of my favorite lines in the entire thing and Kari is perfect for it and I know you know that ;;;;#I cannot stress how much I agonized over making this response as perfect as I could! gaahhh#anonymous#death mention tw#blood mention tw#memory loss mention tw

The Definitive Surviving Girls Of FRIDAY THE 13TH
Inspired by an article featured on VHSRevival.com I’ve decided to compile what I consider to be the definitive ranking of the FRIDAY THE 13TH series’s “final girls”. If you’re not well versed into what makes a slasher film “final girl” so special let’s break it down in simple terms: she’s gotta be the smart one, the “pure” one and in a perfect world would go head to head with the big baddie during the film’s finale, ultimately coming out on top, but not successful enough to make it through a sequel. With the ground rules set, here’s a look at the FRIDAY THE 13TH films’ worst to best “final girls”. Warning, there may be spoilers to follow.
12 - Amanda Righetti - Whitney - FRIDAY THE 13TH (2009)
I’ve never kept it a secret just how much I dislike any FRIDAY THE 13TH film post-Paramount. 2009′s reboot has a few good things going for it: Julianna Guill and a pretty aggressive Jason Voorhees (Derek Mears). In all reality they’re about the only two positives I can come up with off the top of my head. What it’s lacking though is what really made the original set of FRIDAY THE 13TH films so enjoyable. Marcus Nispel’s film leans more into TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE territory than it does FRIDAY THE 13TH. It’s also short on a likable and true to form “final girl”. Righetti’s Whitney character, while by all accounts is the smart and “pure” one, is too reliant on her co-star Jared Padalecki’s Clay character to be considered Jason’s nemesis this go-round.
11 - Lexa Doig - Rowan LaFontaine - JASON X (2002)
New Line Cinema’s entries into the FRIDAY THE 13TH cannon are my least favorite of the bunch. Along with JASON GOES TO HELL: THE FINAL FRIDAY, 2002′s JASON X feels almost nothing like a Jason Voorhees vehicle. Too bad for Lexa Doig, whose Rowan LaFontaine character exhibits all the “final girl” traits, but does so in a pretty terrible film.
10 - Monica Keena - Lori Campbell - FREDDY VS. JASON (2003)
Monica Keena’s Lori Campbell character is really unnecessary in a film like FREDDY VS. JASON. If Jason was going to have an adversary to challenge him throughout the film’s final reel it needs only be Freddy Krueger (Robert England) right? Final girl fail!
9 - Kari Keegan - Jessica Kimble - JASON GOES TO HELL: THE FINAL FRIDAY (1993)
Adam Marcus’s JASON GOES TO HELL: THE FINAL FRIDAY is not even a true FRIDAY THE 13TH film in name. It sure as hell isn’t a true FRIDAY THE 13TH film in content either. With body-swapping, newly revealed Voorhees bloodline ties and not a teenager in sight, JASON GOES TO HELL: THE FINAL FRIDAY is just a complete mess. Kari Keegan’s Jessica Kimble character, like the film she appears in, is a “final girl” by default only (she’s the last girl standing, so I guess that makes her pretty “final”). Her contributions to the “final girl” club are minimal. I guess she does get to stab Jason in the chest with a medieval dagger, that’s pretty cool, right? No!
8 - Jensen Daggett - Rennie Wickham - FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VIII: JASON TAKES MANHATTAN (1989)
Ah! Finally, the Paramount Pictures contributions to the Voorhees legacy. 1989′s FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VIII: JASON TAKES MANHATTAN is easily the weakest of the first eight films, as is the “final girl” character of Rennie Wickham (Jensen Daggett). She dresses like a forty year old mom who’s given up on life, is more of a fragile character than usually required to be an imposing, and victorious “final girl”. It’s not all Daggett’s fault. In reality she's ultimately a victim of lousy writing and poor creative choices by the film’s director, Rob Hedden.
7 - Adrienne King - Alice Hardy - FRIDAY THE 13TH (1980)
FRIDAY THE 13TH purists may cry foul with this one. Hear me out. As a die hard fan I love Adrienne King’s Alice Hardy. She’s the perfect “final girl”. The only real drawback to her character is that she never gets to actually go toe to toe with Jason Voorhees. In fact, the one and only time (not counting the first film’s dream sequence finale) she comes face to face with Mr. Voorhees (in 1981′s FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2) she takes an ice pick to the temple! Her “final girl” days were over at that point.
6 - Lar Park Lincoln - Tina Shepard - FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VII: THE NEW BLOOD (1988)
In 1987 when Paramount Pictures and New Line Cinema couldn’t come to an amicable agreement on potentially featuring both of their marquee horror icons in one film, Paramount forged on with another “versus” idea. Jason versus “the new blood” (I guess that’s what they meant by that title) Tina Shephard (Lar Park Lincoln). Tina fits the mold of the “final girl” perfectly. Add to that fact that she also comes equipped with almost supernatural, telekinetic powers, and old Jason was in for one heck of a showdown in his sixth outing, and the seventh overall FRIDAY THE 13TH film.
5 - Kimberly Beck - Trish Jarvis - FRIDAY THE 13TH - THE FINAL CHAPTER (1984)
Ask me now, ask me in one hundred years, what is the best FRIDAY THE 13TH film? Hands down, 1984′s FRIDAY THE 13TH - THE FINAL CHAPTER. Joe Zito’s film has everything the series has come to be known and loved for. In the fourth entry, Kimberly Beck’s Trish Jarvis, along with her younger brother Tommy (Corey Feldman) put a (temporary) end to the hockey masked killer. Trish is fierce and just as brutal with old Jason as he is with her. She protects her brother, faces her fears head on and ultimately holds her own quite well against Crystal Lake’s most famous resident.
4 - Dana Kimmell - Chris Higgins - FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3 - 3D (1982)
By 1982, the slasher genre’s “final girl” had become well defined. The third FRIDAY THE 13TH entry runs with that established characterization with no hesitation. Dana Kimmell’s Chris Higgins not only finds herself alone, one on one with the seemingly unstoppable force that is Jason Voorhees, but the film, halfway through clues us in that she’s sort of been through this before, having had an encounter with Jason in her younger days that she can’t quite completely recall. Maybe it was her earlier experience with Jason that prepped her for her Higgins’ Haven redux. She hangs the big fella, whacks him in the back of the noggin with a log and a shovel, stabs him in the leg and even tattoos him in the dome with a full on swing of an ax. She thinks and works quickly, constantly keeping herself one step ahead of Jason throughout the entire final reel of the film. Kimmell’s “final girl” would definitely top the list if it were not for our final three candidates.
3 - Jennifer Cooke - Megan Garris - FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VI: JASON LIVES (1986)
Jennifer Cooke’s Megan Garris character is not so much a “final girl” as much as she’s the partner in crime with the sixth film’s “final guy” Tommy Jarvis (Thom Mathews). Why so high on the list then? For starters she’s hot. That counts for something, right? Seriously though, she’s one tough cookie. Not content with just going along for the ride, Megan helps Tommy along the way, compiling all the necessities to return Jason to his watery grave once and for all (?). She even steps in to save the day when Jason gets the best of Tommy during the film’s finale, on the water Crystal Lake fight scene. Just as Dana Kimmell’s Chris Higgins character did in the third film, Megan leaves a permanent mark on Jason’s infamous hockey mask (thanks to her quick thinking and a readily available boat propeller), something that would visually define Jason’s trademark mask throughout the seventh film.
2 - Melanie Kinnaman - Pam Roberts - FRIDAY THE 13TH PART V: A NEW BEGINNING (1985)
I know what you’re thinking. “But Pam never fought Jason, she fought the impostor, Roy”. Well, factually speaking you’d be right. And if you took what I said about Adrienne King early and applied it here, then theoretically Melanie Kinnaman’s Pam Roberts should also be lower on the list. I say you’re wrong though. Kinnaman’s final showdown with Roy (Jason impostor or not) is the stuff of FRIDAY THE 13TH legend. She’s tough, protective of her younger costar (similar to Kimberly Beck in FRIDAY THE 13TH - THE FINAL CHAPTER) Reggie (Shavar Ross) and aggressive when it comes to taking on the masked murderer intent on putting an end to her. She wields a chainsaw for Pete’s sake! Plus, let’s not forget she looks pretty darn good doing all of this!
1 - Amy Steel - Ginny Field - FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2 (1981)
Amy Steel’s Ginny Field is one bad ass chick! Her showdown with Jason is pretty standard fare when you stack it up against the others in the series. What sets her apart though is her quick thinking and use of psychology to take on Jason when the chips are down. Tricking Jason into thinking she’s his beloved mother by donning her rotten sweater in an effort to strike the death blow on the confused Voorhees may have worked had it not been for one false move. No biggie though, she still lays the smack down on him by way of a machete in the shoulder blade that not only saves herself, but her boyfriend Paul Holt as well, who is in a life or death struggle with the maniac until she lands the fateful whack. Like the character of Tommy Jarvis in the later films, it would have been great to see the Ginny Field character return to do battle with Jason again. Amy Steel has talked about her willingness to return to the series, so maybe, fingers crossed, us fans will one day see the return of the greatest “final girl” in FRIDAY THE 13TH history. A boy can hope!

New ask for my lil skater sis
Which parent do they look the most like?
Definitely her dad, which she loathes. She got all of his features, and especially when she’s older she’s the spitting image of him (except much prettier and happier).
Is there a name they were almost given (either by their parents or during character creation)?
She was almost named Aamani after her grandmother, but is extremely glad she isn’t because she loves being Sarita. It’s only annoying when someone tries to call her Sarah or Rita because she thinks they are ugly names, but she loves being almost name twins with her big sis.
What were they like as a kid (if they’re currently a child, what would they be like as a teen)?
She’s currently a child (or well, she’d say “almost adult” but she’s twelve), but as a teen she would take the skater punk aesthetic to a new level. Kari fully supports all her piercings, hair dyeing, and when she’s old enough, tattoos. She’d also love dunking on all her friends, especially Benny.
What’s their drinking tolerance and what kind of drunk are they?
Kari will not let her drink until she’s 18 but she definitely has the highest drinking tolerance of the younger squad except for Bridgette, and after 4 drinks, is very loud and boisterous trying to start a fight with everyone just because she can. Even people bigger than her. Especially people bigger than her.
Where do they like to be touched?
Sari is the queen of fist bumps and secret handshakes, but other than hands, she does like throwing her entire bodyweight on top of people she cares about, so when people are chilling she will come in and sit next to them and just throw her legs over theirs and start talking about her day. Really the only one who’s enamored by it is Ezra.
What’s their favorite position (top/bottom/switch/pillow princess/etc.)
When she’s older, she’ll be a pretty teasy top to her himbo of a boyfriend, because it’s almost impossible to fluster him with verbal flirts because he is more just in love with everything she is and does than what she says about him (plus he has that self love that he knows he’s great because Philly told him so), but is easily flustered when those flirts become more sensual and touchy. Because no one ever taught him how to respond to it.
What are their kinks?
When Sari and Ezra get older to do anything sensual or sexual, Kari sits them down for a long long conversation because with Ezra’s power and Sari’s lack thereof, it can quickly become manipulative or toxic, which no party wants. So one of the ways they will find they can take that worry away (and something they find they’re both into) is making Ez unable to speak and really putting Sari into the power position. They’re both more vanilla than some of the others of their group, but they do like the very sweet gentle dom/sub that can go both directions.
How do they feel about adrenaline (roller coasters, extreme sports, etc.)?
Unsurprisingly, Sari is right behind her sister in doing dangerous stunts to feel the rush of being on a mission. She’s the first to try anything and usually is the first to get hurt unless one of the others intervene.
What is their fight or flight response?
Definitely fight. She will punch and kick until she’s listened to, god dammit.
What’s their pain tolerance?
Usually Kari edges her little sister out in every category, but Sari actually has a higher pain tolerance than her. Mainly because Sarita’s more dexterous than Kari, but also she can take more hits before she’s down. Sari likes to say it’s her own chi, even though everyone knows it isn’t.
What character archetype are they the most like (the Innocent, the Hero, etc.)
The Magician. Sarita wants to show that she can be just as powerful as her friends. She doesn’t have the mechanical or technological prowess that Kari has, but Sari has more of something to prove and more of a drive to show that she can be great and she can be powerful.
What TV-Tropes trope would they be?
Badass Adorable. She’s the little sister that everyone wants and she’s even willing to become a vigilante to play with the older kids.
What John Mulaney quote/bit do they most embody?
‘So, we’re going on the highway. We’ve been on the road for three hours. And in the distance, we see a McDonald’s. We see the golden arches. And we got so excited. We started chanting, “McDonald’s! McDonald’s! McDonald’s! McDonald’s!” And my dad pulled into the drive-thru, and we started cheering. And then, he ordered one black coffee for himself. And kept driving.’
She’s simultaneously the kids and the dad.
With the exception of love interests and immediate family, who are they closest to?
Outside of Kari who she thinks the world of and her future stupid boo Ezra, she’s pretty close to Bridgette and later Ashi. In her own perfect world, Ashi is what Kari should’ve been. A cool big sister who can show her the ropes without acting like the parental figure as well. Sarita just wants to party. However, she will eventually become best friends with Benny because as everyone knows, when you’re straight and you’re a jock you just find the nearest straight jock and be friends with them.
What is their moral alignment? What would have to happen for it to shift?
She’s too calculated to be full chaotic, but she’s straddling the line between neutral and chaotic good. She’s much more likely to bend the rules than outright break them so she can defend herself under and circumstance. While she could never go evil, she does whatever she can to twist a situation to fit her needs.
Are they a morning person? What are they like before 8am?
Sarita is not a morning person and you can never make her a morning person. If she’s up before 11am, something is horrendously wrong. She is just a lump of potatoes in the shape of a human who doesn’t do anything but sit and wait for her hot chocolate and bagel.
What are they like when they’re tired?
She starts to get a little silly when tired. She will make the randomest jokes that are more on par with what Ezra makes, which he finds the absolute best. She also will start playing with her hair more because having her fingers busy is the only way to keep her awake.
What are they like in arguments?
She’s like Bridgette in that she can hold a grudge, especially on behalf of others. If someone’s talking shit about someone she loves, she will stare them down and debunk everything they say. However, when it comes to generic arguments about everyday things, she loves to troll people and make them look like idiots. She will pretend to not know what a burger is just because you told her she took your lunch.
What is their dominant hand?
She’s naturally a rightie, but taught herself to write with her left hand because she’s that bitch.
Out of 10, how happy are they? How happy do they think they are?
Out of all the kids in the Library, she’s probably had the least amount of trauma, and although she’s definitely had struggles (her parents abandoned the family at two, leaving an eleven year old still figuring herself out to care for her baby sister and also being the only child in the Library besides Kauri not to have powers), but she’s still at a good 8/10. Now let’s see if it stays that way.

Tag Game Compilation
Tagged by @prycarious. I really enjoy doing the tag games, but actually sitting down and doing them is another matter. Also I tag anyone wearing red while reading this.
First Three Lines
Rules: Post the first three sentences of a current WIP–either the first three sentences of the entire WIP itself, or a specific chapter.
Here’s the first three sentences of Parlous Heritage Chapter 6
On her second exploration of Laoris, Kari decided even the streets were threatening. The buildings on either side of them were built too close together, and leaned inward. It was more mouth than alley; stony rows of teeth on either side.
Character Moral Alignment Chart
I’m just going to hit up my main three and Kari’s sister. Be warned that my info on this is the first google result that gave more than a known character image to explain.
Kari Spearce- Lawful Neutral Kari’s moral compass is dictated by the teachings and traditions of the Demon Hunters. While the events of the novel come to challenge her beliefs, Kari tends to cling to her identity as a Spearce and therefore a Hunter over much else.
Jamie Spearce- Neutral Jamie doesn’t share her sister’s strong dedication to upholing their father’s name. She will challenge the status quo to protect those she loves, but she doesn’t go out of her way to change the world or adhere to it’s social laws.
Camden- Neutral Good As soon as I saw that the nickname for this one was “The Benefactor” I knew it was Camden. Through his job as the librarian Camden is a major figure in his town’s society. On top of his secret-trading day job, Camden can’t see someone in trouble without wanting to help. He doesn’t hold any special respect for the law or leaders, but he seeks to do any good that he can.
Aleksander Herst- Chaotic Good Alex does whatever he thinks is right in a situation, screw the consequences. While he doesn’t take on as many projects as Camden, he’s not as conscientious of his own limits. His actions don’t always have awful repercussions, since his tactic is to diffuse most situations with words. However its not rare for his meddling to cause problems that Camden has to sort out.
Old Writing Meme
1. Post a quote or short excerpt from your early days of writing. (I’m talking old fanfics, slash fics, original fics, etc., that are barely edited and have a ton of technical errors and misspelled words.) This is the cringe part. Don’t edit anything! Let it be horrendous. Don’t Panic.
OOOOOk, I found a true gem, a horrible thing that should be burned. Because if I’m gonna go back, why not all the way back to my 12 year old self’s novel that I wrote in a 3 subject notebook. The first four pages were ripped out and lost, suffice to say a girl was walking home and got drugged and kidnapped. Idk why that needed four pages.
When I wake up my surroundings have changed again. I was in a cage a lot like the ones from old zoos before they had the whole habitat thing going for them. There were more cages that varies in size around me. All were filled with kids my age and younger. My age... what is my age? I try to think past before the day I was taken. Nothing, I just come up blank. I don’t remember my name, where I was going, or even my family. I’m pretty sure I had a family though.
Then my eyes took in all of the other kids here and I had to stifle a gasp. One kid had at ail, one was a girl with red eyes and long fangs. The list was endless, all of the kids around me had some kind of weird mutation.
2. Post a quote or short excerpt from one of your most recent works/WIPs. Something that you’re proud of. Something that you’ve written that makes you smile when you read it.
This isn’t the best thing I’ve written in this draft of Parlous Heritage, but it is one of my favorite pieces. Mostly because the initial collision of these two characters has changed drastically through the drafts. I feel like this version sets up their dynamic better than any of the others.
3. Tag a writer you admire, anyone you think is amazing, new friends, followers, writeblrs, anyone who you’d like to know more about. If you think someone is a great writer and you want to see how they’ve developed their skills, tag them! Everyone started somewhere.
Last Sentence Tag
“This wasn’t any magic she knew, and it probably wasn’t Accaven approved.”
Cool Words for MCs Tag
This one is neat.
Camden- Esoteric- Understood by or meant for only the select few who have special knowledge or interest.
Aleksander- Irpe(urp)- a smirk of the face; a twisting of the body.
Kari- Hiraeth (Welsh word without a perfect English translation)-a longing for a home you can't return to, or one that was never yours. not necessarily a house, but a homely feeling such as love.

Time to spread some love!
So. Since today is Fanfiction Writer Appreciation Day and I’ve been so busy lateky I haven’t had the time to give feedback to all the wonderful writers that inspire me every single day (that’s about to change it two weeks time btw), I decided to make a list of my favorite fics of all time to show to all those wonderful writers that their words matter more than they know.
Let’s start, shall we?
The Arrangement, Hold On I’m Coming, Sleep Without You, Marry Me, This Can’t Be The End, Something I’m Good At by @ravengirl94
Okay. So I basically had to stop myself from inserting twin’s entire masterlist here, but it’s only because she’s so damn good with words. When she posted the first chapter of The Arrangement, I knew it would become my favorite thing in the world. I can’t really convey how perfect her work is but, God, her stories are always so beautifully and well-written, Dean’s characterization is always on point and the plot is sooo good. She can make me cry and laugh and die from Dean’s cuteness all at once and I can’t even stay mad at her because she’s that talented. She’s just awesome, alright?
Until It’s Gone, 10 Reasons, Used To This, Afraid Of Home, Falling Stars by @trexrambling
Really, anything by her is amazing. I still remember how I came across Jess’s writings; she was included in the same fic-rec post I was included for one of my stories and I decided to go check her out because you can never follow enough SPN blogs, right? Well. I went through her entire masterlist and ended up in tears. She has a way with words that keeps surprising me. And 10 Reasons is one of the fics I carry deep within my heart...
Always, All That Matters, End Credits, My Favorite One, Crazy, Stupid Love by @winchestersnco
So, yeah. Words are not enough to describe Erin. I fell in love with her writing when I read Always (if you love Dean Winchester and you haven’t read that fic, you are obviously doing something wrong, by the way, that story is a love letter to him), and then started reading more and more, and she’s just amazing, you know?
Balconies, Ferrum Gloria, Hold The Line, Eye of The Hurricane, Bright and Warm, Tape Hiss by @lipstickandwhiskey
I still fangirl over Lips. I fangirl over her every single time. Every single time, she surprises me with how much she can make me feel with the words she uses. Her stories are always so beautifully-written, always pull at my heartstrings and what I love about them is that she manages to create a reader that treats Dean with so much love and affection because, dammit, he deserves it. Also. I will never get over Hold The Line. Never.
Found, Home, Jingle Bells, Silences, Dee, Peanut Butter And Banana Sandwiches, One More Day, Stroke of Luck by @percywinchester27
Ana will make you feel all the feels, I promise you. She’s made me smile like a complete idiot. She’s made me scream into the void and wait for the next part of her ongoing daddy!Dean series. She’s made me sob and fall in love with Dean Winchester all over again because with Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwiches (oh, yeah, she has the best Weechester fics out there). So yeah. All the feels.
Pinky Promise, To The One Who Loves Her Next, Colors, Apples, Snowflakes, Always Have, Always Will by @jpadjackles
B is the most wonderful ray of sunshine in the world, but don’t let her fool you because her words will make you ache. She’s made me cry repeatedly or made me swell with happiness and her fic Apples has become my personal headcanon. Someone should call the SPN writers and tell them to add that detail somewhere in the script because, damn, it’s too heartbreaking and beautiful to go to waste.
Silk and Rough Velvet, Forward, Drop in the Ocean, Back from the deep by @blacktithe7
Erin is just... too talented for words to describe. She’s inspiring and hard-working and every and each one of her fics has its own voice. And. I rarely read Jensen fics but her work is so pure and wonderful and beautiful to not read. I admire her so much.
A Way To Go, Freaky Friday, The Letter, Simple Man, Pig in A Poke, At The End of All Things, Hard To Say I’m Sorry by @hannahindie
Hanna is such a beautiful soul that uses words and magic to creat fics. She’s incredibly hard-working and puts her soul into her writing and that ends, well.. That ends with me in tears because she knows just how to break my heart. But I keep coming back because she’s too good to not read.
Heathen, Killzone, Choices by @thing-you-do-with-that-thing
Kari’s been so incredibly good to me and I’ve been dying to find some time to show her the love she deserves. Hopefully, that’ll happen too, but all I can say for now is that I’m sitting at the endge of my seat waiting for Choices, hope from the bottom of my heart she won’t kill anyone in Killzone and that Heathen is practically a glimpse into Dean’s complex mind.
Missed, The Incovenient Truth, Void, Cupcake by @kathaswings
I fell in love with Lina’s writing when she posted The Incovenient Truth and have been held captive ever since (no, don’t send help, I love it here). Her stories are so full of emotions and she works so hard on her writing and as a reader, I can always see that. PS. If you decide to read Missed grab some tissues, you’ll need them.
Easy on the Tickles, First Degree Burns, His Favorite Girl
I definitely need to read more of Bailey’s stuff because her words make me so happy. First Degree Burns has me hooked and I keep going back to read Easy on the Tickles because it makes me smile on a bad day. Soft Dean you see...
The Wish Spell, The Falcon and The Wolf, Let’s Swayze This Mother, The Day After Tomorrow by @emilywritesaboutdean
Emily comes up with the most interesting stories. The Wish Spell is basically every girl’s dream and The Falcon and The Wolf is one of the best things she’s ever done. Oh. And the sass. Her sass is real, I’m telling you.
Fix You, What A Wonderful World, To The End of Time, Well That Explains That, Me Too, I Got You by @impala-dreamer
Beka is the most multi-talented person I know. She can do absolutely everything but mostly she enjoys ripping my poor Dean to shreds and breaking me by making him suffer. It’s all good though because, well... She does it beautifully... (On a side note:I’m still not over To the End of Time)
As It Seems, Down With Me, Notes, You’re Not There, Jealous!Dean Imagine, A+Secrets by @imagining-supernatural
Hmmm. How can I describe Aubrey? Insanely talented. Insanely. Her sass makes me break into laughter every time, her gentleness and emotions pull at my heartstrings and she has some crazy cliffchangers (*cough* As It Seems *cough*). Also. Every time I read You’re Not There I cry.
Summer Fling, Where It All Began, The Way Dean Winchester Cuddles, Little Moment, Morning Kisses by @supernatural-jackles
Jen is so wonderful and she pours that wonderfulness into her fics. Summer Fling is so special because it deals with some very heavy stuff in the most appropriate way possible (and includes the sweetest possible version of D.W.) and Where It All Began is one of the first stories I read before I joined tumblr and it gave me feels.
Fragments, Series Rewrite, Daddy’s Little Lovebug, Lazy Sunday, Drugs Don’t Work by @torn-and-frayed
Steph is a magnificent story-teller. I am constantly in awe of her writing and the way she describes Dean or rather the deep understanding of his character. Her series rewrite is a gift to the SPN world (I used to read each chapter after I watched an episode) and Fragments is one of my favorite stories of all times.
Save or Break, Forever Young, I’ll Remind You @thevioletthourr
She’ll make you cry. A lot. She’ll make you wonder why she’s so brilliant in angst. She’ll make your heart swell with the end of Save or Break. She’ll make you love her. That’s all...

The Piano Man, Unrequited, Dean’s Dream Girl, The Unknowns, Awesomeness All Around by @spnsimpleman
Mel has inspire my writing so much. She’s so lyrical and poetic, writes a wonderful imagery and her stories are always so emotional and original. I fell in love with her work ever since I read Awesomeness All Around but really everything she writes is gold.
Spilled Whiskey, Bronco, Wood Smoke, The Beginning, Shut Up And Dance, Crash by @supernaturalfreewill
I am so in love with this writer. She inspires me to be a better user of words every single day. Her stories are crafted with magic and talent and love and I get lost into her words and travel into time with her fics. Basically everything she’s ever written is gold.
Somebody Else, The Open Road, An Ode To Baby, Blue by @idreamofhazel
Hazel has the most lyrical expression in the world. Her writing is emotional and genuine and real and it makes my heart swell every single time.
Happy Birthday, Dean, Reverie, Will You by @atari-writes
Amber is the best, alright? She’s just the best. Her writing is so beautiful. I still remember how in awe I was when I read Reverie. She nailed it. She nails every and each one of her fics and uggh, I just love her.
Riptide, Lucky Penny, Castle On The Hill by @kaz2y5-imagines
Reading fics written by Kazzy is like reading a book. She made me cry with all of the fics mentioned above and I’m not even mad because the end was so absolutely worth it. Again, I’m simply in awe of the talent of this wonderful woman and have been inspired by her multiple times to become a better writer. I carry Riptide and Lucky Penny in my heart and I’m not even kidding.
Also @sebastianshoe is one of the most wonderful and hard-working writers in here. She works on requests mostly and has so many beautiful fics not only for SPN but also for Sherlock and many other fandoms and I hope to turn her into a Dean girl one day.
*clears throat* That’s all for now, folks. I really, really hope that I haven’t forgotten anyone, and apologize for the long list but what can I say?

• Ale, not beer, in a pewter mug was comme il faut, the only thing for a gentleman of letters, worthy of the name, to drink. – Guy de Maupassant • Alex took a silent step closer to the kitchen door and watched unseen as willow spooned instant coffee into a pair of mugs. With another yawn, she scraped her hair off her face and stretched. She looked so entirely human, so drowsy and sleep-rumpled.For a moment, Alex just gazed at her, taking in her long tumble of hair, her wide green eyes and pixieish chin. Fleetingly, he imagined her eyes meeting his, wondering what she’d look like if she smiled – L.A. Weatherly • Animals look at people the way people look at people that might mug them. – Dov Davidoff • As long as the “woman’s work” that some men do is socially devalued, as long as it is defined as woman’s work, as long as it’s tacked onto a “regular” work day, men who share it are likely to develop the same jagged mouth and frazzled hair as the coffee-mug mom. The image of the new man is like the image of the supermom: it obscures the strain. – Arlie Russell Hochschild • As things are, and as fundamentally they must always be, poetry is not a career, but a mug’s game. No honest poet can ever feel quite sure of the permanent value of what he has written: He may have wasted his time and messed up his life for nothing. – T. S. Eliot

Sometimes, when I brew my wicked strong Irish black tea just perfect, about halfway through the mug I feel a clear and overwhelming feeling of optimism. It didn’t surprise me when a study a few years ago implied that suicide was much less likely among coffee and tea drinkers. – John Vanderslice • Closing his eyes, he sent up a prayer to anyone who was listening, asking please, for God’s sake, stop sending him signals that they were right for each other. He’d read that book, seen the movie, bought the soundtrack, the DVD, the T-shirt, the mug, the bobble-head, and the insider’s guide. He knew every reason they could have been lock and key. But just as he was aware of all that aligned them, he was even clearer on how they were damned to be ever apart. – J.R. Ward • Effectively, it makes the greasepaint permanent, blurring the lines not only between public and private but also between the authentic and contrived self. If all the world was once a stage, it has now become a reality TV show: we mere players are not just aware of the camera; we mug for it. – Peggy Orenstein • Have faith, Ed, all right?’ I search the coffee mug, but there’s none in there. – Markus Zusak • How could he convey to someone who’d never even met her the way she always smelled like rain, or how his stomach knotted up every time he saw her shake loose her hair from its braid? How could he describe how it felt when she finished his sentences, turnec the mug they were sharing so that her mouth landed where his had been? How did he explain the way they could be in a locker room, or underwater, or in the piney woods of Maine, bus as long as Em was with him, he was at home? – Jodi Picoult • I aint such a mug as to put up my children to all I know myself. – George Bernard Shaw • I confess, right at the start, to the doubts – and sometimes outright dreads – that go with me as I climb the stairs to my study in the morning, coffee mug in hand: I have to admit to the habitual apprehension mixed with a sort of reverence, as I light the incense . . . and wonder: what is going to happen today? Will anything happen? Will the angel come today? – Gail Godwin • I gave my mother a matching set [of mugs] for Christmas, and she accepted them as graciously as possible, announcing that they would make the perfect pet bowls. The mugs were set on the kitchen floor and remained there until the cat chipped a tooth and went on a hunger strike. – David Sedaris • I have mugs of hot water every morning because the studio is cold, and also because it makes my throat sound clearer. – Mika Brzezinski • I hight don Quixote, I live on peyote, marijuana, morphine and cocaine. I never know sadness, but only a madness that burns at the heart and the brain. I see each charwoman, ecstatic, inhuman, angelic, demonic, divine. Each wagon a dragon, each beer mug a flagon that brims with ambrosial wine. – Jack Parsons • I like light green, sometimes red is fun to look at, not a fan of yellow, unless it’s in a rainbow or on a coffee mug or on a happy face. – Chris Kattan • I like my mug shot. I think I have a really great mug shot. It looks like a magazine shoot. – Paris Hilton • I wasn’t a great improviser when I started there; I’m not really up on current events. I would always just mug, just try to get my laughs from making faces. So I decided to do a character who should never have become a comic – somebody you would see at the Comedy Store and go, “This person is never going to make it.” – Paul Reubens • Ice is most welcome in a cold drink on a hot day. But in the heart of winter, you want a warm hot mug with your favorite soothing brew to keep the chill away. When you don’t have anything warm at hand, even a memory can be a small substitute. Remember a searing look of intimate eyes. Receive the inner fire. – Vera Nazarian • If you and I took a walk down a shopping street in Jo’burg or Cape Town or London, we see two guys looking in a shop window, we think, “Oh, they’re wondering what they’re going to buy.” A cop looks at them and thinks, “Why are they standing there? Are they doing a drug deal? Are they going to mug someone? Are they going to rob the shop?” – Peter James • I’m a huge Wonder Woman fan – I have about 12 coffee mugs at home! – Kari Wahlgren • I’m pretty sure lurking in a dark alley to mug me with your apology isn’t the usual way to go about saying you’re sorry. But I didn’t read that Mars-Venus book, so who knows. – Jim Butcher • I’m really conscious of the amount of food I eat, but I don’t deny myself anything. For example, I have a really big sweet tooth. At the end of the night, if I’m craving ice cream, I might not have the bowl that I would have when I was a kid, but I’ll put a couple of scoops in a coffee mug, and I’ll eat it slowly, and I enjoy every moment of it. – Summer Sanders • Individually the poor are not too tempting to thieves, for obvious reasons. Mug a banker and you might score a wallet containing a month’s rent. Mug a janitor and you will be lucky to get away with bus fare to flee the crime scene. – Barbara Ehrenreich • Isaac Newton was born at Woolsthorpe, near Grantham, in Lincolnshire, on Christmas Day, 1642: a weakly and diminutive infant, of whom it is related that, at his birth, he might have found room in a quart mug. He died on March the 20th, 1727, after more than eighty-four years of more than average bodily health and vigour; it is a proper pendant to the story of the quart mug to state that he never lost more than one of his second teeth. – Augustus De Morgan • It was one of those mornings when a man could face the day only after warming himself with a mug of thick coffee beaded with steam, a good thick crust of bread, and a bowl of bean soup. – Richard Gehman • It’s a no win situation. It’s a mug’s game. The religions have contrived to make it impossible to disagree with them critically without being rude. They play the hurt feelings card at every opportunity. – Daniel Dennett • It’s the nicest thing on earth if someone comes up to me and says, ‘Every day I drink out of a mug you designed.’ – Jonathan Adler • I’ve always been accused by my detractors of some sort of moral failure, cowardice, or even lack of humanity by not portraying the human form. I respond that I do better by portraying traces of character and intentions of human volition that no mug or body shot can ever exude. – Robert Polidori • I’ve been very lucky. All I wanted was to pay the rent. Then these characters took off and suddenly there were Hulk coffee mugs and Iron Man lunchboxes and The Avengers sweatshirts everywhere. Money’s okay, but what I really like is working. – Stan Lee • I’ve gone through a lot of the same things like Britney Spears. I just don’t have a mug shot. – Fergie • I’ve never been able to write for myself. I was doing a lot. I produced The Green, I wrote it – I didn’t see myself in the world of this film. I’m sure there are elements of dark corners of my psyche that found their ways on screen; you didnt need my mug up there. There was enough of my essence in the story as it plays out without me acting in it. – Paul Marcarelli • Karl Marx himself preferred a glass of claret to the mug of tea affected by some of his recent converts. – Denis Healey • Listen, boy, just ask the chef to make me a proper Full English Breakfast. You know, bacon, fried eggs, sausages, liver, grilled mushrooms and tomatoes, black pudding, kidneys, baked beans, fried bread, toast and served with strong English mustard, mind – none of this effete French muck – and a large mug of hot, strong Indian tea. – Bryan Talbot • Martha Stewart showed up at Manhattan FBI Headquarters to have her finger prints taken and pose for a mug shot. Then Martha explained how to get ink off your fingers using seltzer water and lemon juice. – Conan O’Brien • Mma Ramotswe had a detective agency in Africa, at the foot of Kgale Hill. These were its assets: a tiny white van, two desks, two chairs, a telephone, and an old typewriter. Then there was a teapot, in which Mma Ramotswe – the only lady private detective in Botswana – brewed redbush tea. And three mugs – one for herself, one for her secretary, and one for the client. What else does a detective agency really need? Detective agencies rely on human intuition and intelligence, both of which Mma Ramotswe had in abundance. No inventory would ever include those, of course. – Alexander McCall Smith • My daughter got me a ‘World’s Best Dad’ mug. So we know she’s sarcastic. – Bob Odenkirk • Nanny Ogg could see the future in the froth on a beer mug. It invariably showed that she was going to enjoy a refreshing drink which she almost certainly was not going to pay for. – Terry Pratchett • Nobody thinks in terms of human beings. Governments don’t, why should we? They talk about people and the proletariat; I talk about the suckers and the mugs. It’s the same thing. – Graham Greene • Not like I need an excuse to enjoy a Moscow mule, but this tray and six-mug set, handmade in Mexico with hammered recycled copper, makes cocktail hour extra special. – Oprah Winfrey • O lovely O most charming pug Thy gracefull air and heavenly mug … His noses cast is of the roman He is a very pretty weoman I could not get a rhyme for roman And was obliged to call it weoman. – Marjorie Fleming • Oh, God above, if heaven has a taste it must be an egg with butter and salt, and after the egg is there anything in the world lovelier than fresh warm bread and a mug of sweet golden tea? – Frank McCourt • On my first day in New York a guy asked me if I knew where Central Park was. When I told him I didn’t, he said: Do you mind if I mug you here? – Paul Merton • Once Mo had closed the gates, he returned to his little stone hut, and his half-eaten sandwich of butter and canned sardines, and his mug of thick hot chocolate, which every night he poured carefully into a thermos labeled COFFEE. – Lauren Oliver • One day as a young man, I was walking down the streets. Stupidly, belatedly, I realized he was the drunk. Who else but Valek could win a fight against four large men when armed only with a beer mug? – Maria V. Snyder • Outside the youth center, between the liquor store and the police station, a little dogwood tree is losing its mind; overflowing with blossomfoam, like a sudsy mug of beer; like a bride ripping off her clothes, dropping snow white petals to the ground in clouds, so Nature’s wastefulness seems quietly obscene. It’s been doing that all week: making beauty, and throwing it away, and making more. – Tony Hoagland • People’s arrest tapes, mug shots, everything is online. – Jane Krakowski • Poetry is a mug’s game. – T. S. Eliot • Revolution? Unscrew the flag-staff, wrap the bunting in the oil covers, and put the thing in the clothes-chest. You want to mug and tase everybody these days.” “I do,” Zuzana agreed. “I swear I hate more poeple every day. Everyone annoys me. If I’m like this now, what am I going to be like when I’m old?” “You’ll be the mean old biddy who fires a BB gun at kids from her balcony.” “Nah. BBs just rile ’em up. More like a crossbow. Or a bazooka. – Laini Taylor • Something smashed to the ground. Farrell • Suppose there were groups of secularists at hospitals who went round the terminally ill and urged them to adopt atheism: ‘Don’t be a mug all your life. Make your last days the best ones. People might suppose this was in poor taste. – Christopher Hitchens • That was close,”he said, helping himself to coffee. Yeah, you almost opened the door to Morelli.” I wasn’t talking about Morelli. I was talking about us.” That too,” I said. Ranger sliced a bagel and looked for the toaster. It’s broken,”I told him. He truned the boiler on and slid the bagel into the oven. That’s surprisingly domestic for a man of mystery,” I said to him. K. Rowling • This is ideal, you’ll see. We do everything backward. It’s just how we are. We began with an elopement. After that, we made love. Next, we’ll progress to courting. When we’re old and silver-haired, perhaps we’ll finally get around to flirtation. We’ll make fond eyes at each other over our mugs of gruel. We’ll be the envy of couples half our age. – Tessa Dare • This is no time for drinking a mug of water – which you would do nowhere else in the world. A mug of water! You just don’t drink water from mugs, do ya? Except on the telly. Water out of a mug! Should be a hot drink… mug of water. – Russell Brand • Three years ago, the white hope of the theatre. I’m sure there are elements of dark corners of my psyche that found their ways on screen; you didn’t need my mug up there. And a group of Zulu guys was walking behind me closing in on me. And I could hear them talking to one another about how they were going to mug me. (Speaking Zulu). Let’s get this white guy. You go to his left, and I’ll come up behind him. I didn’t know what to do. I couldn’t run.So I just spun around real quick and said (speaking Zulu). Yo, guys, why don’t we just mug someone together? I’m ready. – Trevor Noah • One must be able to say at all times–instead of points, straight lines, and planes–tables, chairs, and beer mugs – David Hilbert • Out of nowhere, Valek appeared before me, yelling in my ear, shaking my shoulders. Let the old lady bring you your house-slippers and untie your fiery red necktie. You always make revolutions with your mugs, your republic–nothing but an industrial accident. – Alfred Doblin • Saiman picked up a coffee mug, stared at it, and hurled it against the wall. It shattered into a dozen pieces. We looked at him. “Your date appears to be hysterical,” Rene told me. “You think I should slap some man into him? – Ilona Andrews • She sits in her usual ample armchair, with piles of books and unopened magazines around her. She sips cautiously from the mug of weak herb tea which is now her substitute for coffee. At one time she thought that she could not live without coffee, but it turned out that it is really the warm large mug she wants in her hands, that is the aid to thought or whatever it is she practices through the procession of hours, or of days. – Alice Munro • Snowflakes swirl down gently in the deep blue haze beyond the window. The outside world is a dream. Inside, the fireplace is brightly lit, and the Yule log crackles with orange and crimson sparks. There’s a steaming mug in your hands, warming your fingers. There’s a friend seated across from you in the cozy chair, warming your heart. There is mystery unfolding. – Vera Nazarian • So violent. Jack looked at me, all the mugs forgotten. “I’m not going to let anyone kill you.” He grinned. “If I don’t get to, no one should. – Kiersten White • Studs Lonigan, on the verge of fifteen, and wearing his first suit of long trousers, stood in the bathroom with a Sweet Caporal pasted on his mug. – James T. He looked at me over the rim of his coffee mug. “I like things hot. – Janet Evanovich • The mug from the washstand was used as Becky’s tea cup, and the tea was so delicious that it was not necessary to pretend that it was anything but tea. – Frances Hodgson Burnett • The mug is a tool. My ace in the hole. To have looks is the bonus on top of what motivates me to be an actor. Not to realize they’re an asset would be counterproductive to the cause; they serve the common good. – Billy Zane • The toughest thing for a homeschooler is the same as for a school teacher – shifting from a weak tea vision of math being grinding calculations to a rich frothy mug of math as an active way of thinking. – John Golden • The world won’t get more or less terrible if we’re indoors somewhere with a mug of hot chocolate,’ Kim said. ‘Though it’s possible it will seem slightly less terrible if there are marshmallows in the hot chocolate. – Kamila Shamsie • There are many differences between a baby and an I-Pod. And one of the biggest is, no ones going to mug you for your baby. – Nick Hornby • There are popular celebrities, there are unpopular celebrities and then there are the walking dead. You know the walking dead when you see them: they look like Mel Gibson, still striving for drunken charm in an L.A. County mug shot, after getting picked up on a DWI charge that included anti-semitic slurs directed at the police. – Jeffrey Kluger • There is more similarity in the marketing challenge of selling a precious painting by Degas and a frosted mug of root beer than you ever thought possible. – A. Alfred Taubman • They were the reason that he kept faith with his stars, that reinforced him in his belief that the universe had more in store for him than the mug’s game of working for a modest salary until he retired or died. – J. Today, a mug. That’s New York for you. Puts you on a Christmas tree, and then – the alley. – Ben Hecht • To espresso or to latte, that is the question…whether ’tis tastier on the palate to choose white mocha over plain…or to take a cup to go. Or a mug to stay, or extra cream, or have nothing, and by opposing the endless choice, end one’s heartache. – Jasper Fforde • Tonight, I propose a 21st Century Crime Bill to deploy the latest technologies and tactics to make our communities even safer. Our balanced budget will help put up to 50,000 more police on the street in the areas hardest hit by crime, and then to equip them with new tools from crime-mapping computers to digital mug shots. We must break the deadly cycle of drugs and crime. – William J. Clinton • We have such a long, familiar history with Peter Falk. The minute his mug is on that screen people smile. – Paul Reiser • We need to get past the point where being black and a male means that I am likely to mug you for your wallet, likely to have a minus 15 on my IQ, likely to not go to college and likely to wear my pants below my arse. – John Amaechi • We were talking of DRAGONS, Tolkien and I In a Berkshire bar. The big workman Who had sat silent and sucked his pipe All the evening, from his empty mug With gleaming eye glanced towards us: “I seen ’em myself!” he said fiercely. – C. S. Lewis • What are they teaching these thugs? -Why are there so many of them? -What is the Institute for Higher Aeronautics? -How many of the are there? There are only six of us! Why? -Why is DC public transportation so weird? -Why don’t we mug those Eraser goons for money more often? -Fang’s Blog – James Patterson • What brings you onto my property?” Rhev said, cradling his mug with both hands trying to absorb its warmth. Got a problem” I can’t fix your personality, sorry – J.R. Ward • What I really want is to sit next to someone under an L.L. bean blanket on the beach in the fall and drink coffee from the same mug. I don’t want some rusty ’73 Ford Pinto with a factory-defective gas tank that causes it to explode when it’s rear-ended in the parking lot of the supermarket. So why do I keep looking for Pintos? – Augusten Burroughs • With a face like this, there aren’t a lot of lawyers or priest roles coming my way. I’ve gotta face that was meant for a mug shot and that’s what I’ve been doing for the past thirty years. If I play a cop, it’s always a racist cop, or a trigger-happy cop or a crooked cop – but by and large I play cowboys, bikers, and convicts. – M. C. Gainey • Yes Headwoman Azaze. But I never lie to Rosethorn. She, um, discourages it.” “Evvy and I have an understanding.” She grabbed the teakettle and poured hot water into the mug. “She tells me the truth, and I don’t hang her in the first well we come to. It’s a solution that works tolerably well for both of us. – Tamora Pierce • You can never prepare yourself enough to see your mug shot and DUI. – Tracey Gold • You can tell the future?’ ‘More like the future mugs me from time to time.’ Rachel said ‘I speak prophecies. The oracle spirit kind of hijacks me once in a while, and speaks important stuff that doesn’t make any sense to anybody. But yeah, the prophecies tell the future.- Rick Riordan • You had a package. It was torn, so I looked in.” She lifted one of a stack of firefighter calendars, with his own mug and half-naked body on the cover. “Nice,” she said, a ghost of a smile crossing her lips. “Mr. 2008.” He bit back a sigh. “It’s for charity.” “And you definitely contributed. – Jill Shalvis • You know I’ll never say no, and Nate’s so dedicated, I think he loves our alpha more than me.” “I resent that,” Nate grumbled. “I might love football more than you, but definitely not Lucas’s ugly mug. – Nalini Singh • You should take more pride in your appearance,” I tell him. “You’ll never attract girls with an ugly mug like that. – Darren Shan • You should think about nobody and go your own way, not on a course marked out for you by people holding mugs of water and bottles of iodine in case you fall and cut yourself so that they can pick you up – even if you want to stay where you are – and get you moving again. – Alan Sillitoe • You were safe on a troll. Anyone wanting to mug a troll would have to use a building on a stick. – Terry Pratchett

Concuss and In Love
Pairing: Jensen x Reader
Warnings: Slight injury (mild concussion), Language (I dropped the f-bomb a few times, sorry I swear like a sailor), So fluffy it will rot your teeth out
Word count: 2088
A/N: So, this was written spur of the moment today. No outline, no plan, I just picked up my phone in the car and started typing. This was written for @thing-you-do-with-that-thing or as most of you know her by Kari’s SPN Hiatus Writing Challenge Week 7. The prompt was “Stop filming me, moron!”. I added a word to it to make it flow in the story hope that’s ok. I am not a nurse or doctor, but I did do research on concussions and at home treatments so if any of this is wrong I apologize. Sorry if this is complete shit like I said it was written in like a few hours. No beta so all mistakes are mine.
Summary: You are enjoying a nice relaxing morning in your home, when your husband Jensen comes home early scaring the crap out of you. This fright, however, may have been a little more dangerous than Jensen thought.
You were sat in your bedroom on the window ledge in your pjs and a nice hot cup of coffee. Your back was to the door as you faced the window taking in the beauty that Austin had to offer in the morning. You were so hesitant to move here at first, but after waking up to a view like this every morning you were glad you did.
You sat there just contented in the relaxation your room, hell your home had to offer you. The only possible thing that could make it any better would be if your husband Jensen were there with you with his hands wrapped around you.
Jensen was still in Vancouver filming. He hadn't been home in about a month and a half now and you missed him like crazy. But, you understood it was his job. Apparently, something had happened to one of the cameras on set after Jared had a prank go wrong and they lost the footage they had and had to start the whole episode over setting them way behind hence the not coming home part.
You couldn't help but think the Jensen would love this view. This particular morning the sky was a perfect beautiful blue with barely any clouds in the sky, the grass and plants never looked greener, and it was in the low 70's out. It was just beautiful.
You took a sip of your coffee and picked up your phone to send a quick text to Jensen.
You sat down your phone and coffee and turned on the radio in your bedroom and turned it to your favorite station and nodded your head to a few of the songs.
After about 10 minutes, a song that you knew all too well came through the speakers.
"Carry on my wayward son
There’ll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
And don't you cry no more."
You got out of your bed and began to dance around your room and sing along to the lyrics that you had memorized.
"Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
I was soaring ever higher, but I flew too high
Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I'm dreaming, I can hear them sayyyy...."
However, you failed to notice that your husband had gotten home earlier than expected. He stood at the doorway, smiled, and pulled out his phone. Once you started the second verse Jensen was already Facebook live-ing the entire show.
"Carry on my wayward son
There’ll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
And don't you-"
As you were belting out the last line of the chorus you turned around to see your husband laughing and filming you in the doorway. This unexpected sight led to you losing your footing, tripping over the rug, and hitting your head on the footboard of the bed.
Jensen stopped laughing the minute you hit your head and started heading towards you. He turned his phone around to face him, but before he could get any words out you butted in with,
"Jensen Ross Ackles, stop filming me, you moron!"
His face winced at your tone and quickly said, "Sorry guys, gotta go. I'm sure Y/N is fine, but I'll let you know if she's not. Bye!"
With that he ended the recording, rushed and crouched down next to you. "Hey sweetheart, are you ok?" he asked as he held your head in both hands.
"Yeah, I think so," you said as you extend your arm out. "Help me up, would ya?" He nodded and grabbed your and helped you stand. However, you wavered on your feet and stumble back into Jensen causing him to worry.
He lifted you up and brought you to sit on the bed. He felt the back of your head and felt a large lump already forming and felt a wet substance. When he pulled his hand away he saw that it was blood.
"Oh, my god, Y/N you're bleeding! I'm so sorry I didn't think you'd fall. We should get you to the hospital," he said panic evident in his voice.
You couldn't help but smile at his freak out. This man loved you and you knew that but moments like these just showed you how much.
"Jay, calm down. It's fine honey. I'm good. Head wounds tend to bleed a lot even if they are minor. Which, in my case, it is. I'm fine," you said to reassure him.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I mean I have been a nurse for five years now. I think I know a little about this type of stuff. I probably have a mild concussion, but there's nothing the hospital can do for that except tell me to take it easy."
"Alright, well you stay here and I'm going to get some supplies to fix you up." With that Jensen was out of the room.
He came back 10 minutes later with a basket full of stuff and a wet wash cloth to wipe up the blood from your head.
"Ok, since this is pretty much my fault for scaring the shit out of you, I think I have what I need to be your home nurse for the day," Jensen said.
"I hope you mean next few days, Jay, since one I need someone to keep an eye on me to make sure I don't have like a seizure or something. Two, you're right, this concussion is your fault. And three, you embarrassed me in front of the millions of people that watch your stupid fucking Facebook," you said in a playful tone until you reached the last sentence.
"Yeah, I'm sorry sweetheart, but if it means anything they were all more worried than laughing. And I meant these supplies were for today. I'll obviously need fresh ones tomorrow. You've got nurse Ackles all week," Jensen said with a grin.
"What supplies are we looking at here?"
"Ok, first here's an ice pack for your head to help with the swelling. Here's a bottle of water and a bottle of your favorite tea since I know you will only take one sip of the water. Your can of Pringle's and box of cheese-it's. I'd would have gotten pain meds, but if I remember correctly those will do more harm than good. I got your favorite magazine off the counter that came in the mail today so more pictures and no stain on your brain. I brought a book just in case you wanted me to read to you. Some lotion, because I think I owe you a foot rub now and lastly my black and blue flannel that I know you love to sleep in. Did I miss anything?"
You just looked at your husband in awe. This man knew you inside and out. He knew exactly what you would want or need when you didn't feel good. But he also didn't treat you like a glass doll that would break at any second. He was everything you could ever hope for in a man. Hell, he even listened to your hospital talk and retained enough of the information to know what to do and not to do with a concussion. You just smiled and shook your head at the man sitting in front of you, thinking how lucky you were to have him in your life, as your husband, but most importantly, your best friend.
"Hello, earth to Y/N. You're not spacing out, are you?"
"No, no I was just thinking."
He smiled at you and asked, "Ok, did I miss anything?"
"Yeah, where's the sexy nurse costume? I mean come on, my smoking hot husband is my nurse and no sexy costume?" You grinned as you looked at Jensen.
He couldn't help but bust out into a full body laugh at your words knowing damn well that he would have said the same thing
"No costume. We wouldn't want to get your heart rate too high and make things worse, would we?" He said with a cheeky grin.
"Damn, why do you have to be such a good listener? Most husbands would just tune out the shop talk," you said jokingly not expected the real serious ass answer your husband was about to give.
"Well, I'm not most husbands. I love you so fucking much and respect you and what you do too much to just tune you out. I'm gone and away from you enough as it is. When I'm with you I want to hear everything. Whether it's about work, yoga, the neighbors, or your god damn sock drawer, which is way too organized for a sock drawer if you ask me, but anyway, yeah. I love the sound of your voice. I love listening to everything you have to say and when we can just talk with you wrapped in my arms that's everything to me. You are my beautiful, amazing, wonderful, smart ass, badass wife, who wouldn't want to listen to that every night. Besides, your "shop talk" could actually save a life, so I figure it's good to listen."
"Jensen fucking Ackles. How dare you make me concuss and then say those words and make me fucking cry. Damn I love you. I'm glad I scooped you up when I did. I'm so damn lucky."
"Oh sweetheart, that's where you're wrong I'm the lucky one."
At those words, you leaned into to him and kissed him. You moved and straddled his legs and deepened the kiss while his hands cupped your cheeks. Your tongue glided over his plump pink lips while he bit your bottom lip to ask for permission to enter, which you obliged. He let go of your cheeks and began to run his fingers up and down your back. You played with the hair at the nip of his neck.
Suddenly, you began to feel dizzy and light headed. You let go of his lips and leaned your forehead against his. "Jay..." you whispered. All he had to do was look at you to know what was going on.
He smiled sincerely, glided his thumb over your cheek, and said, "How about a rain check on this until your?" You nodded. "Good now let's lay you down, while I get you another ice pack as yours is less ice and more water at this point."
You giggled and nodded your head while Jensen lifted you off his lap, wrapped his flannel around you, and laid you down tucking you under the covers.
When he came back with a fresh ice pack, he placed it gently on your head. He sat back on the bed and just looked at you with your long beautiful hair down and flowing, dressed in his flannel, and smiling. Even injured and not feeling well you were still the most beautiful woman in the world to him. You were the world to him.
He broke his stare and grabbed the basket. "So, what first?" he asked.
You motioned for him to put the basket back on the floor, which he did. You turned him to face you and smiled.
"I need some rest, so how about we just cuddle until I fall asleep, then we can get to the basket of greatness when I wake up?"
He laughed and nodded his head. He unbuckled his belt and took off his jeans so he was in just a t-shirt and his boxers. He climbed in bed next to you under the duvet and you nestled your head into his chest as he wrapped his arm around you. You took comfort in his warmth and instantly felt better.
"I love you, Jay," you muttered before you feel asleep.
"I love you, too, sweetheart," Jensen said.
Jensen looked down to see you peacefully asleep and couldn't help but smile. He kissed the crown of your head and grabbed his phone. He took a picture of you asleep in his arms and posted it to Facebook to reassure the fans you were alright and he posted it to Instagram to show off how beautiful and wonderful you were.
You were the love of his life and he was the love of yours. Neither of you were happier than when you were with each other like you were at this very moment.

Innocent Games: the rewrite
Without a world to save, petty drama and circumstances have forced a rift between the digidestined. That is until they find themselves in a world shaped solely by their memories, without their partners, where the only monsters to face are themselves. I’m doing it. I’m posting the rewrite. I put it on A03 and after a lot of thought I decided to delete all the old chapters on ff.net. I replaced them with the rewritten version and will be reposting the entire thing over the next few months. You can read it here. Or, you can read on tumblr below. I hope to gain some new readers and have some of my favorite peeps return. :) Post 02, ignoring the epilogue, pretending tri don’t exist. Rated M for language, upcoming violence and sexual innuendo. Dub ‘cuz dub.
Innocent Games
I've seen worlds.
Before I knew that others existed, before I was torn from mine and forced to save another. Before the Digital World, I was sure they existed.
As a child, my mind teemed with magical places: a world where I could fly, another where I constantly wore a suit of armor (even in the tub) and got everywhere by riding a horse. In one, everything was blue. So blue that I couldn't tell the earth from the sky from the ocean from myself. But my favorite world was the one formed by fading memories: where my brother and I still shared a tiny room and I didn't do much but cry. I remember it in pieces: the legos spread across the floor, Matt's foot in my face when I snuck into his bed and turned in the night, the way we'd run to shut the door when our parents kissed, pretending like we hated it.
I sometimes wonder about the world Oikawa brought us to. If there were a way to get back there, if all those worlds could exist in a world like that.
I used to wonder if I was the only one who wondered.
Now that I'm here, I don't wonder at all.
....
Chapter One Black Hole
...
i need u
The words had been sitting mockingly on his phone for more than an hour, waiting for a response. Matt frowned, finally left with nothing to do but answer. His college essay sat on his brother's desk, covered with comments in red pen (too poetic, too vague, this should be a semi-colon not a comma) all written in skewed pillars of scratchy scrawl. His eyes slipped sideways, across piles of books and crumpled paper to the disheveled bed. An arm slumped over TK's face, but his knees were pointing toward the ceiling and every now and then he had to readjust his feet to keep them there. Patamon had curled into a nest of blankets by his side, long furry ears masking his face. Matt turned back to his phone and hammered out a line with his fingers. Hanging with my brother tonight.
bring him with
Is your sister coming?
no excuses
Matt could think of a hundred. Nope
i thought blondes had more fun ¬_¬
With a verbal groan, Matt's fingers found the bridge of his nose. Tai's name blurred across the screen of his mobile. He set the phone face down and fiddled with a box of cigarettes nestled in his pocket, fingertips dancing along the few that remained.
“Better leave them there,” TK mumbled into his mattress. “Mom's gonna flip when she finds out you're smoking.” He lifted his head and Patamon squirmed in his sleep. “Who are you texting?”
Matt pulled out a cigarette anyway, letting it linger against his lips. “Tai.”
“You're not going to light that in here...”
“I'm going outside.”
“Better brace yourself. An hour lecture. Minimum.” TK watched as Matt stood. “You didn't tell her about Sora yet, did you?”
The cigarette bent between Matt's teeth.
“Make that two hours,” said TK.
come on! Mimis back. i told her every1 would be there b a friend and act suprised
With a sigh, Matt closed the balcony door behind him. His phone went off again.
man up. u cant avoid Sora 4ever
I'm not Matt stopped typing and his thumb jabbed into the backspace button, erasing his words. He shoved the phone in his pocket and lit his cigarette.
…
your gonna come cuz im irresitable
Does your phone not have spell check?
its not smart
Sora bit back a smile and rolled her eyes.
“Are you sexting?”
Her whole face flushed. “Omigod, no. Mimi.”
Noodles flopped in front of Sora's nose when Mimi pointed a pair of chopsticks at her. “You look like you're playing coy. Is it Matt?” Mimi grinned and the yakisoba retreated, sliding behind her pink lips with a loud slurp.
“Playing coy?”
Mimi spoke with one cheek full. “Pretending you don't like the sexting.”
“I am not sexting.”
“You and Matt don't sext?”
Sora put her phone down. “No! What if someone read it?”
“Who doesn't enjoy some steamy literature once in a while?”
“My mother.”
“She doesn't like Matt?”
“She doesn't like sexting,” Sora hissed. She hid her face behind her hand when an old couple was seated in the booth beside them. “You did hear me when I said we broke up, right?”
“I'd rather live in denial.” Mimi pouted when Sora glared. “Whyyyy? You guys are so cute together.”
That was true, she guessed. Every picture of them was gorgeous. Matt was perpetually handsome, even when he was at his worst. Did he have a worst, really? His frown practically oozed sex. That definitely wasn't his worst: the brooding crease by his cheekbones and narrowed frosty gaze. His smile certainly wasn't. It was bright and charming, even when he was all awkward and embarrassed and his cheeks burst into rosy splotches.
Sora closed her eyes when her phone chimed with a new message. “I don't know,” she said. “Maybe that's why.”
“Because you guys are cute...?”
“Because we...” A piece of chicken was speared through by her chopstick. “Because we're perfect together.” Sora concentrated on wrapping a single noodle around it. She swore she could hear Mimi's jaw drop.
“Well, that's stupid.”
Sora looked up and found Mimi's mouth had puckered, like she tasted something sour. Her eyes narrowed and Sora's narrowed right back. “Thanks.”
“Explain.”
Sora groaned. “It feels like we're always trying too hard. We never fight.” She sighed when Mimi raised her brows. “I mean about us. Our relationship. Shouldn't we fight about us sometimes?”
“You broke up with Matt because you guys don't fight about your relationship?”
“You're making it sound stupid.”
“I'm just repeating what you said.”
Sora flicked a straw wrapper at her and it barely fluttered. “I tried once. To fight with him. About the band. I acted like I was jealous of it, even though I wasn't.” She laughed and Mimi took another big bite of yakisoba. “He just looked at me, you know, like he was trying to get me and then he asked if he should quit.”
“Seriously?”
“Dead serious. He wasn't even mad. He said it didn't matter. Like music didn't matter more than me.”
“That's really sweet.”
“It's not. It's uncomfortable.” Sora poked at her food and everything seemed to rush out of her in one breath. “I'm always uncomfortable. When its just us, I get... he makes me nervous – my stomach hurts, sometimes I can't even breathe.”
“Sounds like a crush.”
“It's exactly like a crush.” Sora frowned. “For four years.”
Mimi swallowed another bite of noodles and stared at her, hard. “You broke up with Matt because you've had a crush on him for four years.”
“I just want to be friends again. I want to sit in a room with him while he plays guitar and not feel like I have to sing his praises. I want to work on a sketch without him telling me how beautiful it is. I want him to forget our anniversary. I want him to do something wrong.” Sora's eyes sunk to her uneaten meal and found a notification on her phone.
“You want someone less perfect.”
Nodding, Sora checked her messages. “I guess.”
sora you dissapoint me. i left u the perfect opening and u blew it. so u coming 2 the party or what?
“Do you want to go to this party Tai's bugging me about?” Sora asked.
Mimi beamed. “Who do you think convinced him to go?”
….
emergency meeting
“I call bullshit,” Davis grumbled.
The pew pew pew of the arcade shooter quieted when Yolei stopped her relentless button mashing to raise a brow at him. It shot up like a question mark beneath her lenses, glaring with the countless lights of electronics. “What?”
Leaning against the side of an old pinball machine, Davis lifted his phone so she could see the text on his screen.
Ken took out another couple zombies before racking up his arcade gun. Davis huffed when Ken's name outranked his in the high scores.
Pushing hair behind his ear, Ken pulled his cell from his back pocket. “I have the same text.”
Yolei hung up the gun she'd still been holding and grinned devilishly when her name climbed to the top of the screen. She flipped open her phone. “He sent it to all of us.
“It's bullshit,” Davis spat. “Guaranteed. Mimi's in town, scheming. She probably stole his phone.”
“It does say emergency,” said Ken.
“Wait. No, Davis is right. I think he's bluffing.” She pulled a crumpled piece of paper from her purse and attempted to smooth it. “Apparently Tai's class is lacking in graphic designers. I think someone did this in Paint. God awful.”
She held up a flyer covered in ridiculously drawn confetti and written entirely in Comic Sans. “The seniors are throwing a graduation party.”
Ken looked at his phone again. “Why would Tai invite underclassmen?”
“Because it's Tai,” said Yolei. “He likes attention.”
Davis frowned. “He's going to beat me up.”
“Oh please, he messaged all of us.”
“I'm not going,” said Davis. Bullshit, he typed.
u got me emergency party
And then a second later, dont worry, im not gonna beat u up
Davis leaned forward, peering suspiciously around the corner to find a bunch of elementary kids gathered around the latest version of DDR. No Tai. He held up a finger when Yolei tried to talk to him. Thanks, he wrote. It took him a while to hammer out the next line. Kari gonna be there? I need to talk to her.
maybe not
“What is that supposed to mean?” asked Yolei.
Davis flinched and shrugged his shoulder into her chin, nudging her away. “Stop reading my texts.”
“You were about to show it to me anyway.”
True, but he wasn't about to admit it. “Mind your own business.”
“Please, your business is everyone's business.”
“No it's not.” Davis looked to Ken for back up and was let down by a shrug. “Shut up.”
“I didn't say anything,” said Ken.
Davis huffed and showed Ken his phone. “What is this supposed to mean?”
“I think he's being purposefully elusive.”
“So that I come? Or I don't? Maybe he forgot to leave me out of the message.”
“I doubt that,” said Ken.
“He knows it takes two to tango,” said Yolei.
“There was no tango-ing,” Davis snapped, trying not to sound disappointed. “We had a moment.”
“With your tongues. While she was dating TK.”
Davis reached into his hair to fiddle with his goggles before he remembered they were missing. He could still picture them, nestled in Kari's hair. He crossed his arms. “I know, I know. I'm an asshole.”
“You just weren't thinking,” said Ken. If it had come from someone else, Davis would've taken it as an insult, but Ken did this thing with his voice that was eerily soothing.
“Was that Kari's excuse?” Yolei's eyes went all squinty, the same way they did whenever she took off her glasses. Davis sorta wanted to steal them so she always looked that stupid.
“It was a moment,” he repeated.
She was already ignoring him, fingernails clicking against buttons as she hammered out her own texts at breakneck speed.
Davis pouted at Ken and returned to Tai's message. It must have taken him a good five minutes to write back, because Ken was already winning against the next round of computer zombies. Tell her to come. I'll be good. You can even chaperone us.
His phone gave a pleasant chirp in return.
as if u had a choice
Davis started to respond when Yolei's voice squealed, “Oh! We're doing makeovers at Sora's!”
“We?” he asked.
“For the party. With Mimi. The girls,” Yolei said. Before Davis could open his mouth again, she looked up from her phone to glare at him. “Kari's not coming.”
He frowned. “Crap.”
Ken gave him a small smile. “Whack-a-mole?”
“How'd ya guess?”
…
emergency meeting
Green eyes scanned the words through thin metal bars. Ripping off his glove, Cody typed a quick reply. Where?
His fingers tapped impatiently on the end of a shinai while he waited for a response. “Sorry, sensei.”
Removing his helmet, Chikara Hida gave a wave of dismissal and kicked back a swig of prune juice. His white beard came back glistening around a smile, wrinkles kissing the corners of his cheeks. “How is the Digital World these days?”
“Peaceful.” Cody pulled off his own helmet and pushed strands of damp hair from his eyes. He looked over his shoulder to where Upamon was happily playing with his own mini shinai, his oversized ears swinging it around with strange precision. Cody's attention turned back to his phone and it felt suddenly heavy in his hand. “It's been a long time since we've had a meeting.”
“We haven't seen anyone since I've been back,” complained Upamon, suddenly dropping his weapon. He bounced across the dojo floor and flew into Cody's back, forcing him forward. “Are we having a meeting?”
“Sounds like it.” His phone chimed and he peered down at the new message.
Bullshit, it said. A tiny avatar bursting with burgundy hair appeared beside it. Davis was grinning behind his goggles and shooting up what he must have thought was some sort of American gang sign.
Cody squinted at his phone, watching as Tai and Davis messaged back and forth.
“Is everything all right?” his grandfather asked.
“False alarm,” Cody answered flatly. He gave Upamon's head an affectionate pat and typed out a quick message of his own.
Davis, you're in a group text.
His phone chimed again.
Fuck
…
Ba-ding.
Ba-ding. Ba-ding.
Ba-ding.
The phone slid under a pillow and a body slid under the sheets, further and further until it was just a ball at the foot of the bed. It gave a pitiful moan. “Please stop.”
A door creaked open. “You could turn it off.”
The lump shook, a pathetic vibrating that only ended when the smoothly tucked corners of the the comforter were yanked out from under the mattress, uncovering it.
Susumu Kamiya sat on the bed and gave his daughter's hair a rub. Chestnut strands stuck in every direction, clinging to the sheets.
Kari pulled the covers back over her head. “I messed everything up,” she moaned, wiping damp cheeks into her mattress. “Even Tai's mad at me.”
“He's not mad at you, honey. He's just brothering.” Susumu laughed, just a little snort of appreciation at his own humor. “You know, like mothering, but he's your broth—”
“Got it, Dad,” Kari moaned.
“Anyway, you didn't mess everything up. You're in high school, Kari. This isn't time for a serious relationship anyway.”
“You mean any relationship.”
“That's my girl.”
Ba-ding.
Susumu's hand reached and slipped under her pillow. He started scrolling through her messages.
Kari peeked from under the covers. “Dad!”
“You don't want to read that. Or that.” He stretched his arm away from her grabbing hand. “Protecting my daughter's virtue is my dadly duty. Please.”
Kari found her nose smushed under his palm. “Stop looking at my—”
“Definitely not that. Wow. I'm gonna have a talk with his mother about that language. Oh here.” Susumu released her face and handed her the phone. A row of texts had appeared, all accompanied by a grinning picture of Mimi Tachikawa, who (courtesy some good trick photography) seemed to be sporting Lady Liberty's crown.
“You should go have fun with the girls,” Susumu said. “Get out of the house.”
Kari looked up from her phone and frowned. “Stop fathering me.”
“Too late.” He patted her knee with a boyish grin. “Did that a long time ago.”
….
im here. ur mom made dinner. its delish
“Mmmmm, Mrs. Izumi,” Tai mumbled through a mouthful of dumplings, “dese are amadin'.” He grabbed another between his fingers and offered it to Joe, who sat awkwardly beside him, knees knocking into the Izumi's coffee table.
Joe peered over his glasses at the food, moist in Tai's palm. “Let's leave some for Izzy.”
Shrugging, Tai popped it in to join the others. The bedroom door opened.
“Iddy!” Tai swallowed. “Can I have your mom?”
Izzy's eyes, dark and lined with heavy shadows, flickered to the kitchen where his mother was putting together another plate. His attention turned back to Tai who seemed to be waiting for a serious answer. “No.”
“I have some fresh bok choy and garlic,” Mrs. Izumi said, carrying a tray into the living room. The smell preceded her and Tai's mouth started to water.
“Trade?”
Izzy ignored him and turned his attention to Joe. “I'm going to make an educated guess and conclude the emergency's a farce.”
“This is why I don't add you to group texts,” Tai grumbled. “You ruin all the fun.”
Mrs. Izumi set the bok choy on the table and Tai quickly snatched some up with his chopsticks, thanking her through a loud slurp. “Would you boys like anything to drink?” she asked.
“Could I take my dinner in my room?”
“Oh, well, of course, Izzy, but,” Mrs. Izumi seemed to hesitate, her hands wringing together, “don't you want to take a break?”
“I want to show them what I've been working on,” he said, rubbing a tired eye. “I'll go to bed after that.”
“No way, emergency meeting, Izzy.”
Izzy set his eyebrows until they looked like a big bushy V and Tai grimaced.
“Is everything all right?”
“Everything's fine, Mom. Don't worry.”
“Okay, I'll just put this all on a tray for you. Tai, Joe, are you staying for—”
“No,” Izzy said. “They have a party to go to.” He pulled open his door, motioning for them to step inside.
“Aw man,” Tai moaned, slumping into Izzy's office chair. His neck craned backwards, making it seem as if his large mop of hair was weighing him down. “Killjoy, that's what you are. I coulda boxed that up and taken it home for later. Do you know how hard it is to get a good meal at my house?”
Izzy pushed the chair so that it rolled away from his desk, Tai flopping with it. An array of screens were running in black and white, with code so tiny that Tai had squint his eyes to make out any of it.
“So what's got you too busy to make it to my graduation party? This is like a once in a lifetime opportunity, Izzy.”
“No one went to mine,” interjected Joe, stretching his legs as he sat on Izzy's bed. “Including me.”
“Wrong.” Tai snapped his fingers. “I went to yours.”
Izzy tapped a couple of lines into the screen, his dark eyes running back and forth to double check his work. He looked haggard. His red hair was long again, sticking out in every direction in greasy clumps. Tai was about to ask when he'd last thought to take a shower when he spoke up.
“I'm replicating the data that existed in the world MaloMyotismon brought Davis's team into.”
Tai sat up straight and used his feet to roll the chair forward. His eyes danced over the screens. “You mean Whoop-ass Wishing World?”
“That's what you named it?” Joe asked.
Tai gave a shrug. “Davis did. Made sense.”
“WWW.” Izzy's top lip curled with a hint of amusement, fingers still flying across the keys. “Because of it's connection to the Digital World, I've actually managed to extract a quantitative code that could potentially give us the power to create tangible spaces with the images in our brains: memories, dreams...”
Joe gave a heavy swallow. “You're kidding.”
“Not at all,” groaned a voice beside his rear.
Joe jumped, literally taking off across the room with a hand clutched over his breast when Tentomon appeared from under the covers.
“He's been working on it all night,” Tentomon moaned, green digital eyes flickering sleepily. “And all day. And the night before that and the night before that...”
“So what you're saying is”—Tai gave a big grin and rolled up, bumping the back of the chair into Izzy's legs—“he needs a break. A party perhaps?”
Izzy was already shaking his head. “I'm not going, Tai. Do you have any idea what a breakthrough like this could mean? We can dream up”—he started to look a bit manic— “endless possibilities. This could mean a world of unlimited resources... we can literally create an entire world of unlimited resources.”
“You must have weird dreams.”
“He has no time for dreams,” yawned Tentomon. “Never sleeps.”
“Izzy, Izzy, Izzy,” Tai tsked. He stood and threw an arm around his shoulders. “You gotta know when to quit. This isn't healthy, is it, Joe?”
Joe was already busy picking up an assortment of empty tea bottles from the floor. “I hope you're drinking water.”
Izzy lifted his shadow-rimmed eyes to Tai's, squinting. “Breakthrough.”
“Is this why you missed my soccer game Friday?” Tai pouted when Izzy gave a shrug. “You wound me.”
A knock disturbed them and Mrs. Izumi slowly opened the door with a tray of food in her arms. There was enough for all of them even though they weren't staying. “It's so nice to see you boys,” she said when Izzy quickly turned back to his screen. “It's been too long.”
Tai deflated. “College applications, ugh.”
In truth, they were only half the problem. It had been more than six months since he had attempted to get the group together. The older they got, the more complicated everything seemed to get. School was a given, relationships were just, ugh, drama... heck, even soccer was crazy. A quarter of the team was stressing over college scouts. Tai was over it. He hated complicated – the stress, everything--it was easier to avoid it.
“Just wait until you're in college,” groaned Joe. “I don't even know why I'm here.”
“Easy.” Tai grinned. “Me.”
Mrs. Izumi smiled. “I can't believe how much you've all grown.” She set the tray down and the fingers on her hand twitched, just behind her son's red hair. It lowered suddenly when Izzy began to plug in another line of a code and Tai noticed the way her smile stretched when her eyes filled with tears.
Joe must have noticed too, because he started fumbling with his armful of empty bottles and excused himself, bolting out of the room to throw them into the recycling bin.
Izzy immediately stopped typing and turned to her. “I can't speak for Tai, but I'd deduce my growth has a lot to do with your incredible cooking.” He rubbed one tired eye and forced a grateful smile.
“Please speak for me,” Tai said, swiping yet another dumpling. He internally breathed a sigh of relief when Mrs. Izumi's face lit up, tears shining.
“I really appreciate it,” Izzy continued. Pink welled into his cheeks when she kept smiling. “Thanks, Mom.”
Her voice came out sweet and strangled. “You're welcome, sweetheart. You boys let me know if there is anything else I can get you.” The door closed after Tai caught her wiping her eyes.
He turned to Izzy. There was a brief moment unspoken between them, a concern Tai wasn't sure how to voice: What's going on? Why is your mom crying? Are you okay?
Izzy turned back to his screen and Tentomon buzzed into the side of his leg, a not so subtle nudge. He leaned down to grab a dumpling from his partner's outstretched claw.
“I'll call you when I've reached a stopping point,” Izzy said before taking a bite. His mouse clicked once, twice, and then he reached backwards without looking and rolled the office chair back in front of the desk. He took a seat and clicked again.
“Okay, I get it.” Tai shoveled a mound of food into his palm for the road. “You're on a roll. Breakthrough. Yeah, call me when you decide to be cool again.”
“A breakthrough that could theoretically save the world.”
“Meh. Already did that. Literally.” Tai put one last dumpling on his pile. “You make sure he gets a shower later, eh Tentomon?”
Izzy frowned while Tentomon gave an obedient salute.
Tai's fingers danced by his head in a weak imitation of Medusa's snakes. “Your hair, Izzy, geez. Shower! Water, food... life!” He tore into the dough with his teeth and spoke through a mouthful of pork. “You know Mimi's gonna be there, right?”
There was another light flush in Izzy's cheeks and Tai felt triumphant.
“Tell her I said hello,” Izzy mumbled before taking his own bite of food. “How long is she in town?”
“A week, I think.” Tai gave a shrug and headed for the door. “Life,” he hissed, backing out of the room. “La-iiife.” He could have sworn he saw Izzy start to laugh, just the slightest shake of his shoulders.
Joe almost ran into his back. “Where are you going?”
Tai popped another piece of food into his mouth. “To da pardy.”
“What, that's it? You aren't going to drag him out by the collar and call him a pansy?”
“Nope.”
Joe glared through his lenses. “Yet it's perfectly acceptable to do to me?”
“Can't do it to Izzy.” Tai slapped him between the shoulders of his collared shirt, hard. “He's got a backbone.”
…
The screen had gone blurry long before he finally quit. Izzy's face lowered onto the keyboard, crushing keys. Blank lines entered beneath the cursor until there was nothing left but black. It took a minute before he realized he'd fallen asleep.
Izzy peeled his sticky cheek from the back of his hand and robotically erased the lines until he was back to a screen full of code. He rubbed his eyes but the numbers wouldn't focus. Yawning, he saved his work and rolled his chair backwards.
“Shower,” he mumbled, still hearing Tai's voice chiming cheerfully in his ear.
It had been a long time since Tai had been by.
Maybe it just felt long. Time didn't pass normally when he was working. Obsessing, Tentomon would say worriedly from his usual position on his bed. The digimon spent the rest of his time in the kitchen with his mom, worrying. Izzy cast a look over his shoulder as he trudged tiredly to the hall, catching the digimon snoring beneath the covers. Guilt crawled into his belly and he slowly closed the door behind him.
Izzy tried to shake it off. It would be over soon. The program was complete. It was riddled with bugs, a million different glitches that he couldn't seem to figure out, but the essence was there. The power to create, just waiting for his fingertips.
Turning on the water seemed mundane, infinitesimal in comparison to everything he could be doing. Necessary only because he was, unfortunately, still very human.
Izzy stared at himself in the mirror, his red hair was greasy and wild from endless frustrated tugs and long enough that it looked a miniature version of Tai's gravity defying mane. He attempted to smooth it and it stuck to his scalp in kinky waves. He gave himself a small sniff and his nose crinkled with disgust.
Sighing, he stripped and stepped into the shower. Code danced across his closed eyes, burnt permanently into his retinas, while the screen in his room slowly ate it away.
Inside his computer, the numbers collapsed. Code slipped from all sides of the monitor, funneling to the center of the screen. The whole room flashed, a distortion of a pixels, just a glimpse into the world beyond. Then everything went silent.
Months of work lost and in its wake, a black hole, just waiting for something else to come close.
