Bnha Boys react to you have snake pet
[ Characters: Denki Kaminari, Tenya Lida, Ejiro Kirishima, Bakugou Katsuki, Sero Hanta, Izuku Midoriya, Fumikage Tokoyami, and Shoto Todoroki ]
[ You x Some Boys ]
Tumblr media
Denki Kaminari
• He was absolutely terrified to see a snake crawling around your dorm room at UA and he definitely felt like fainting from something like that, but you made him realize that your Petunia wouldn't be able to hurt anyone. Although despite that, Kaminari was afraid that if he got close to you, your snake would attack him. Not to mention that she can be aggressive when it comes to strangers (since she hated them)
Tumblr media
Tenya Lida
• Well... He'll try to get used to it, but he also knew that he should approach your snake calmly so as not to arouse a threat towards her. However, to your surprise, your Petunia liked it very much and got used to it
Tumblr media
Ejiro Kirishima
• Definitely This manly guy is not prone to violence and threat towards Petunia. You were actually surprised by the sudden turn of events that your boyfriend immediately took a liking to your snake
Tumblr media
Bakugou Katsuki
• Oh my... It wasn't the right time when he barged into your room in the UA school dorm, but when he noticed the snake he wanted to smash it to pieces and burn it alive (no aggression, honey). However, you were surprised and worried that Petunia was afraid of him, hiding under the bed, terrified of him when he appeared in your room. However, when she was in her glass house she hid in the scattered tree bark. Your boyfriend was happy that your snake was afraid of him, but you scolded him for scaring her and somehow convinced him to apologize to her. Somehow he managed to convince himself and he did, but Petunia It will take some time before she stops being afraid of him (it won't end well)
Tumblr media
Sero Hanta
• At first he was unsure about it seeing the snake which was huge not to mention it was longer than your bed. However he was terrified seeing such a huge snake and he didn't expect you to have something like that in your room and even in your UA dorm. After a while he managed to get used to it much to your surprise
Tumblr media
Izuku Midoriya
• OH MY GOD! He almost had a heart attack when he saw the huge snake in your room and he felt like he was going to faint when he saw your Petunia. But you assured him that she would never hurt him and besides Izuku is your boyfriend and he has nothing to be afraid of because it's a (normal) snake
Tumblr media
Fumikage Tokoyami
• Off-topic... He knew what snakes ate: birds and he has a bird's head, for God's sake! He stayed away from her because he saw the way she looked at him when he was around you and in full view. He basically tried not to look at her. You assured him that you would leave her in the glass house so he wouldn't be afraid that your boyfriend would suddenly decide to enter your room
Tumblr media
Shoto Todoroki
• Nothing interesting, but he still left his stoic face and decided to stay calm. He wasn't afraid of snakes, although Petunia tried to scare him with things like: hissing, showing sharp teeth and even opening his mouth. However, nothing worked, because your boyfriend didn't even flinch after what your snake had just shown

I think about this sometimes but I personally love that Horikoshi took the Yandere trope, split it in two, and gave one half to Izuku and Himiko.
Like it’s so fascinating how you can just SEE how purposeful Himiko was as a character in hindsight standing next to him.
Himiko is a really interesting subversion of her trope for two reasons:
She hurts people because she loves them, not for isolation or destruction of the competition (gore/blood is love to her, not necessarily a means to love someone)
She’s not possessive. Like at all.
I’ve seen that hc a few times and it always bothers me. Ochako is for sure a possessive character (we saw that with Hatsume around Izuku way back at the sports festival arc), but Himiko? Really?
You mean the girl who had a crush on a boy AND the girl who also had a crush on the same boy? Her?
You mean the girl who doesn’t hurt people who love who she loves, rather actively encouraging it in the first place? That one? Really?
Like it’s such an integral part to her subversion too. It’s what makes her such a weird and fascinating character. Possessiveness is supposed to be whats ugly about love itself, yet her love remains ugly without it. She is ugly because the fundamental ways in which she sees and feels about the world are considered “wrong”, “dangerous”, and “deviant”.
But Izuku… ohhhh Izuku…
He holds this trait like a badge melted to his skin. My man cannot escape these allegations. It’s to the point where it’s honestly a fundamental to his narrative. Izuku does not act nor feel the same without it.
Izuku holds a cutesy nickname that literally every other childhood friend of Katsuki’s has long left behind, saying his real name instead (this is honestly why I’m also uninterested in a scene where Izuku calls him “Katsuki” instead of “Kacchan”, Katsuki doesn’t represent the same things the name Izuku does, imo at least), izuku “give him back to me” midoriya, holds his dead body to his chest on a cover, freaked out on someone either hurting/offending Kacchan.. 3 times(?), keeping big boy ofa secrets…. The list goes on.
So it’s this main reason that I think their characters are just so. Fucking. Intertwined. I’m glad this has become a more common interpretation because there’s just so much that aligns between them.
Both of them call their “special people” with -chan endings, both by their first names, both deemed deviants/irrelevant by society. It’s no wonder Ochako fell in love with Izuku, just like she did toga, they’re fucking freaks. They’re interesting. They’re weird. They’re overly friendly and socially inept and a little beaten down by the world yet have too much passion to stay on the ground. They’re envious of the ones they love (Ochako of her freedom to be a normal girl, Katsuki for his raw power and harnessed skill), and I guess I just wanted to make this post because I adore how it’s all done.
I LOVE how the yandere trope is used as societal commentary here. Not necessarily as a way to make the main love interest jealous and feel she must protect the main character, nor for some kinky reason surrounding her character, but because the trope is built off of real, ugly feelings that can and do happen. That love can and is considered truly beautiful in all its forms, especially those of queer people.
So I especially love it because it isn’t just limited to Himiko, but Izuku as well. He may never hurt the ones he loves, but he would hurt for them.
A perfect narrative foil on queer and deviant forms of love. Big fan Horikoshi.

I just thought of Izuku immediately shooting up in the hero rankings like a week after he becomes an active pro-hero again because everyone is so happy that he's back and Katsuki wants to be annoyed that Izuku ranked higher than him so quickly like he would've been, once upon a time, but he really can't be because this is what he worked eight years to see, and now he can finally compete with him again. So he sits in his apartment, TV on, watching Izuku try not to stutter his way through his first returning interview with fondness and pride, and thinks it's finally time to put some actual effort into climbing higher on the hero rankings.
(Not that being #1 is his priority anymore. He's just happy that he gets to fight alongside Izuku again, that they can compete with one another as equals, and that they can complete one another like two sides of the same coin. For the rest of their lives.)

But he was always strong enough. He was always a caring and protective person.

He was and is a hero, always lifting others to greater heights.

He just never truly understood and believed it until Midoriya said it.

sellllllll it's meeeeee. hehehehehehehehehhehe
so for ur writing exercises.... deku + light? please? pretty please?
:3c
heheh heheh hehe niku. this will be the death of me. me writing izuku for the first time 🥲 i will only do this for you </3
contains: established relationship, spoilers for the end of the manga, aged up deku but sometime in between the final outcome (he doesn't get the h*** s*** from bakugo yet), mentions of sex and scars
deku + light
izuku only sleeps with the lights off.
it isn't uncommon; many people you know can't sleep with even just a sliver of light turned on somewhere in the room. but the difference with izuku, you learn, is not that he's unable to stand the light―it's that he refuses to.
you quickly pick up on it the first few times he sleeps over.
he fidgets in bed, pretty badly, actually. the nightlight you sleep with glows a warm yellow, illuminating the side of your face and coating him in its afterglow. you chalk it up to nerves, how he pulls at his sleeves and adjusts his position constantly; he is, after all, one of the most anxious people you know.
and this relationship―it's new. heck, even you feel a little jittery with his arm wrapped around you.
the rhythmic tapping on your hip only increases pace. you don't think he realizes it, so your hand gently reaches for his, intertwining your fingers as you turn around in his arms.
he's close, nearly touching you nose-to-nose; the proximity leaves you fuzzy, a little ticklish, so you giggle, a soft "oops," as the freckles dusting his face almost glisten under the warm light.
"hi," you whisper, meeting his eyes; they stare back at you wide in surprise, "can't sleep?"
he looks almost guilty at your question, as if you’ve caught him with the one thing he's been trying to keep from you.
"just—" his voice comes out louder than intended, prompting him to chuckle nervously as he readjusts his volume, "just winding down, sorry."
you inch closer, nuzzling his nose lightly, "it's okay."
"did i wake you?" he asks, cheeks flushing pink as his eyebrows furrow in immediate concern. his expression is something caught between stifling a grin and feeling sorry.
you shake your head against the pillow you share, strands of your hair tangling with his. "just winding down," you tease, watching as his gaze turns softer, eyelids drooping heavier.
sometimes, you think, izuku holds the world in his eyes―a deep, dark green, the color of life. most times, they look at you with wonderment, bright and alive; photos from inko tell you they're the eyes of his inner child.
on nights like this one, however, they hide a depth in them weighted by what you can only assume is time, and all that has happened to him in such a short span of it.
you try your best to understand what lies beneath them, knowing full well he'll never tell you outright what truly bothers him.
"is it the light?" you bring up, some time after laying in silence.
"hm?" he clarifies.
"do you have a hard time sleeping with the nightlight?"
his eyes widen briefly once more, as if shocked that you've caught him again. these split second reactions are ones you've learned to be attentive to when it comes to izuku.
"no," he tries to lie, but you know better as you turn to your nightstand and reach for its switch, "you don't–"
"it was hurting my eyes," you quickly make up an excuse, tucking yourself closer under his chin as you cut off his attempt to deny it again.
finding out that the light was the problem was the easy part—
you'd begun to notice much earlier on that izuku was barely rested on the nights he'd spend at your place. it was only when your old nightlight broke that you began to notice him waking up much later than you did, groggily rousing from a deep sleep.
—what was hard, was figuring out why.
at first, you suspected it was his scars.
"s-sorry, it's not—" he'd warned you, right as your hands gripped the hem of his shirt the first time you were about to have sex, "—it's not nice."
you didn't care though; you still don't care, and you've made that abundantly clear to him since. you love izuku and all his parts―all the nicks and jaggedy pieces of skin that make up who he is.
when you eventually ask him about it, with a request that he be honest with you for once, he tells you that it is and it isn't―the reason why he exclusively sleeps with the lights off, that is.
it's an odd, comforting relationship he has with his body—that he is simultaneously grateful and sorry for how its become a canvas, both painted and marred to symbolize japan’s historic last stand.
you find out the real reason when you catch him staring at his hands.
he does it often, when he thinks you aren't looking—his fists bunched up in the same way he used to watch the power of one for all course through his fingertips; the same way he used to prepare them in battle.
there’s a faraway look in his eyes that lingers, you notice—a little wistful if anything.
“do you miss it?” you finally ask. he gives you the same shocked look he does every time, as if he’s been caught with a secret he’s been trying to hide.
he’s learned a fair bit about you now, too, though—lying to you is futile when you’ve perfected reading his truth. he stares at his fists again as you take a seat beside him, moving to give you space. you rest your head on his shoulder gently, waiting.
“sometimes,” he admits, but you know it’s an understatement.
“i think about the vestiges a lot. i miss them the most, i think,” he continues, clenching his fists tightly, “i always try to reach out to them, but i guess it doesn’t work that way.”
“i… i try to replicate the right conditions every night, but…” then he lets go, stretching his fingers out wide. the scars on the surface ripple through his skin, telling its own story.
you hum, acknowledging what he means. silence sits with the two of you as you take his hand in yours, slowly unfurling his fingers until his palm reveals itself to you. it’s rough to the touch, seasoned with hard work and all that he’s been through.
“is that why you prefer the dark?” you ask softly, after some time.
it's not often that you stay up later than izuku does. when you do though, you catch him shifting in bed, moving from side-to-side. you pretend you aren't awake, but you hear him mumble their names, dwindling in volume as he dozes off to sleep.
he stares at his palm for a moment before he admits quietly, "yeah." his brows furrow as if contemplating whether to say more, but he shakes his head, dark green strands swaying to the beat of his embarrassed chuckle, "nevermind, it's silly."
"it's not."
you intertwine your fingers, sandwiching his hand between yours. a slight sheen glosses over his eyes as he tilts his head up to look at you. he draws in a breath, before it spills over.
"it's..." he finds the words, and you squeeze his hand in comfort, "it's easier to believe it was all real when the lights are out, and that maybe it can happen again."

MHA didn't create some miracle way of helping others. It was never promised to be this way. And when it came to villains...
Tumblr media
Spoilers for manga all the way to chapter 423.
The only way to get anything in life in MHA was to be born "normal" like everyone else and that way of thinking never left Izuku with Toga getting the same treatment she did before from everyone from her family to her "normal" classmates. It was Ochako who helped Toga even if just a little by lifting the weight of all the feelings that Toga had.
Tumblr media
She couldn't save Toga the way one could save a civilian by saving them from harm. If it worked that way Dabi would've saved Toga even before Ochako could apologize for failing to notice Toga. She was so lazer focused on saving everyone else, that she was just another villain to stop, not a human.
Even if by the end of it Ochako helped Toga to deal with her grief, acceptance as it was wasn't something possible when a quirk makes you want to drink someone's blood from jealousy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We got a bittersweet ending with Toga, in which she probably died from blood loss just like her double did in MVA. If it wasn't for Twice she would've died back then.
Giving away her blood for Ochako wasn't a redemption or a way to save Toga in the end, more as it was her being true to herself until the very end.
Just like Twice chose to stay with the League even if Hawks offered him a way to survive that battle. He refused and died protecting his friends who accepted him instead of choosing to betray them and accept Hawks' offer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After Twice's death... It was a matter of time that more 'active' LoV members would join him as well. As sad as it is, we now can return to Izuku.
Who, after his time OFA-AFO quirk space, now wanted to help a "crying boy" he saw in Tenko just as before with Katsuki in chapter 1. He didn't forgive Tomura and didn't excuse the way he chose to solve his problems.
It didn't mean that Tomura would survive in their battle, even if Izuku didn't see killing others as a way to solve problems. He didn't understand Tomura, but he still wanted to try, and try he did.
Tumblr media
The rest of this post was nothing more than a contextual prologue to understand that it's not the first time a hero failed to save a villain and in Twice's case we know that he died and his death was the reason Toga started thinking about her own possible death and Dabi finally revealed himself as Toya.
The goal of saving a "crying boy" never was an end-goal for Izuku in the Final arc, since helping Tomura deal with his feelings just left him hollow with a goal that clashed with Izuku's. As being a hero for villains meant destroying the world for them to help them live freely.
But that was before AFO resurfaced.
Tumblr media
Sadly after that Tomura who was talking about making his own choices for a while now stopped doing that. Even if he still had a goal of helping villains and only villains, Tomura was almost gone. And his goals were now unreachable.
Izuku helped Nana who in turn kept Tomura from fading away entirely. In MHA there were countless situations where Izuku's help affected people by helping a different person to keep hope, All-Might being the first one and Nana being the last one at the moment.
Tumblr media
Hollow after Izuku helped him to get rid of his hatred Tomura could do the only thing he did - accept the situation as it was.
Accepting AFO as his Sensei, accepting Stain's ideals and Overhaul's deal was the way he solved his problems. Just like Izuku had a problem of understanding something outside of his norm, Tomura was accepting too many things, which lead to his downfall after accepting AFO's quirk.
Just like Twice could've given up everything that he had for his friends so did Tomura.
Tumblr media
With Izuku helping as much as he could let Tomura to finally rest as he wasn't really living ever since waking up in the hospital. With his body now affected by AFO's wishes instead of his own until the end.
In a way Izuku didn't succeed in his wish for Tomura to stop ever since PLF war arc. As he "kept fighting to destroy" no matter how hard Izuku tried to stop him.
The only thing he succeeded in was changing Tomura's mind about himself, instead of viewing himself as a monster he accepted that he was a human just like Izuku said. A "crying boy" who couldn't really destroy Izuku's hands in the end.
For a group of Villains who weren't supposed to get profiles of their own at the start of the series, League is slowly fading as the most memorable group that there was in MHA, getting backstories, their own Villain themed arc all the while being as human as anyone else.
As sad as their story is they were not "unlucky", they didn't need a happy false ending where they would need to change to be normal - they chose to live this way and they lived it to it's fullest.

"I can't believe Midoriya said no!"
I can't believe Bakugou wasn't even direct with him, let alone have that conversation in a car with someone else present.
No, no. Because as much as the fandom wants to drag Midoriya for saying "no" (even though he just became a Pro Hero again and need that time to adjust before making a big decision), no one else thought it was weird that Bakugou who had the development of expressing himself more openly to Midoriya about how he feels... NEEDED A TRANSLATOR TO ASK MIDORIYA TO JOIN HIS AGENCY?!
And I think what further bothers me about this, the reactions to Midoriya saying no, is that some folks treat Midoriya and Bakugou running an agency together as something rather intimate, like being in a relationship, but then in the same breath not acknowledge that Bakugou decides to have a conversation about that very thing in front of someone else???
Let's replace "joining the agency" to "taking the next big step in our relationship".
Does that sound like something that should be discuss on the way to meeting with friends to a dinner in a car in front of one of those friends?

do you have any idea how hard it is to keep fanon and canon media separate in your brain when you are actively 1.) watching the anime 2.) reading the manga 3.) reading multiple fanfics 4.) writing multiple fanfics and 5.) consuming mass amounts of fanart and fan comics that alternate between canon and fanon content

companion piece to this post, but now we're jumping over to deku. set about 2 months after the bkg visit. izuku's in heat and he has big feelings about it
cw: omegaverse
"Don't laugh."
"I wasn't going to."
"You were! You did that thing where you take a deep breath and bite your bottom lip-"
"Okay, okay, so maybe I was going to laugh. But you can't blame me."
"You're horrible."
Izuku tried not to pout, but it was a losing battle. He was crouched at the far end of his outrageously spacious walk-in closet while his wife—gods above, he was still amazed and awed that he got to call her that—leaned against the doorway, amusement evident in her gaze. The point of their contention was the pile of fabric he was crouched over, consisting of two blankets, three pillows, and a white shirt far too small to belong to him.
"Starlight," she pleaded with him, the nickname making his stomach flutter. "Be reasonable."
"You can't tell me what my nest is supposed to look like!"
"Then it's a good thing you've built a fancy soldier's cot and not a nest."
She laughed as she fluidly dodged the pillow he lobbed at her. The pout was on full display at that point and growing stronger by the minute, but he didn't stop her when she began to move closer. She knelt in front of him and his makeshift nest, her lips lifted into the same soft smile he fell in love with.
"Do you want to talk about it?" she asked, hand coming up to brush a curl out of his face. He was so deep in pre-heat pheromones he could almost see her scent curling up out of the glands at the base of her neck and enveloping him in a comforting haze.
"Talk about what?" His hindbrain quieted a bit as he inhaled, taking her in by the noseful. She waved a hand lazily, encompassing both his shoddy attempt at building a safe heat space and the general air around them, thick with the smell of distressed omega.
Izuku sighed and moved from his squat to a proper sit, some of the tension bleeding out of his frame at last. "It's dumb."
"I don't care. If it's bothering you, I want to hear it."
For a moment he didn't speak, his emerald eyes dragging over the ornate drawers, alcoves and wardrobes decorating the room. It was almost as big as the entirety of his old home. He didn't even have enough clothes to fill up a fraction of the storage, though the empress was quickly working to rectify that. His gaze finally settled back on her face, and he exhaled long and slow.
"I don't think I know how to be an omega." The confession was quiet, meant only for the space between them. "My mother raised me as best she could, but between her job and the fact that she's a beta, it's not like she had the time or expertise to help me with the finer points of things. I didn't exactly have a ton of friends growing up either and on top of all of that, I turned 18 while I was in training. The guard isn't keen to have their promising recruits down and out because of pesky things like biological urges, so..."
Understanding began to dawn on his wife's face. "You only went off suppressants when we got married. This is your first heat ever."
Izuku nodded, his fingers drumming anxiously against his thighs. "Everything is so…overwhelming. Like the day before you get sick when you know it's coming and you feel off but nothing's really happened yet. I guess I thought my instincts would rumble to life out of nowhere and tell me what to do but…" He rubbed the fabric of one of the blankets between his fingers. "Clearly that's not the case."
His wife made a sympathetic noise and moved closer, their knees almost touching. One of her hands came up to scratch at the hair near the base of his skull and Izuku had to fight past the purrs building in his chest to continue speaking.
"Must paint a pretty stark contrast, huh?" He chuckled, low and self-deprecating. "One consort raised in the lap of luxury with all the tools an omega could ever need to be a perfect partner, and another that's better at swinging a broadsword than homemaking. You really don't discriminate, do you?"
She didn't even crack a smile at his (admittedly, pretty bad) joke, her brow furrowing as a look of confusion settled on her features. "I didn't marry you just because you were standing in front of me and happened to be an omega. I did it because of this," the hand not in his hair pressed against his heart, "and this," the tip of her perfectly manicured finger poked his forehead. "You're important to me, Izu. Not your social status, not what's between your legs, just you."
Her words didn't exactly lift the whole weight of his worries off his chest, but they sure as hell made the load lighter. The purrs he'd been trying to suppress came out in full force, and she smiled as the vibrations from his chest traveled through her arm into her own body. Leaning forwards, he laid his forehead against her shoulder and they stayed like that for a while, basking in each other's company.
Eventually, Izuku spoke again. "If nothing else about our lives changed, but I was an alpha, would you still be with me?"
Her laugh filled his ears like church bells. "I would engage each member of my council in single combat if it meant I could still marry the alpha version of you. We could flip a coin for who fucks who during our ruts."
She could see the edges of his grin dimpling his freckled cheek. "You really don't discriminate."
"Nope. Now, let's get you a nesting base and some better material, there's work to be done."

I think that there’s a fundamental misunderstanding of what exactly is…happening with Izuku’s character. Specifically in regards to chapter 425.
I’m glad that a lot more people generally recognize that Izuku is not a character that can be read at a surface level, given that he’s both a repressed person with built up emotion of basically everything and also a very glaringly HUGELY unreliable narrator, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I agree with the ways I’ve seen this most recent chapter spoken about.
I see posts, comments, etc with ideas like “Izuku don’t suppress your emotions! Open up with people! It’ll be okay I promise!” When that’s fundamentally not what is happening here.
There’s always always ALWAYS been a distinct difference in character throughout horikoshi’s writing when he is showing that a character is:
A—Avoiding emotions, thoughts, ideas less than ideal for them. Not opening up when they probably should about their problems given that they’ve been handed the space to do so. Just genuinely not acknowledging, feeling, or expressing emotions that they don’t want.
B—Reflecting on the ways they feel about the world, themselves, or other people given their new perspective on a situation. Not outright reaching out to others to talk about these problems/feelings, but instead waiting until the moment they feel they have the most confidence to do so with their new outlook on their own life.
And genuinely, guys, to grab your BkDk attention rn, this is the exact reason why Ochako’s reflection on her feelings for Izuku and thereafter decision to pull away from them WAS NEVER GOING TO END IN OCHAKO EXPLODING WITH HER LOVE FOR HIM.
This was another common interpretation I saw of Ochako and Izuocha for a long time. That because she pushed these feelings away, they were somehow going to explode in this unbelievable way and she would “get the boy” because of it. That her arc would surround accepting her romantic feelings and that she can’t just push away how she feels for a career.
But yk. That didn’t happen. At all. Nowhere close even.
The same kind of goes for Katsuki, allmight, etc. They all had moments in their arc where it was spent genuinely reflecting, and the only reason we as the audience never connected it in the same ways we do ochako or Izuku was ALWAYS BECAUSE the narrative showed their inner thoughts while doing so (mostly because Allmight’s arc after losing OFA and Katsuki’s arc on what it means to be a hero were so intrinsically tied, both starting at the same time and ending at the same time during the final war. And because they were so tied this caused their own reflections, development, and thought process to be broadcasted to us frequently throughout their arcs… to each other. They also somewhat shared aspects with Izuku, but these were cherry picked more often than not, like dvk2 for example).
To us Katsuki never seemed to be.. idk, suppressing his anger in any way because we were always told what he was doing and why (side note: this is why I’ve always thought arguments against Katsuki were so weird, bc unlike characters like endeavor or Ochako he wasn’t like… hiding who he was and how he was changing. Ever. Like the audience knows at all times past basically season 3 what Katsuki is thinking and doing. Like how do you watch this happen, stare me dead in the eye, and tell me how much of a terrible and awful teenage boy he is. Like damn I didn’t think we were this dumb. This is also my theory as to why he’s most popular, his arc is very… in your face if that makes sense). Katsuki’s entire mini arc on reflecting his mistakes and his childhood and his future is spent TELLING YOU that it’s what he’s doing. (I’m referring mostly to the endeavor internship arc, the provisional license exam makeup, and basically everything in the war arc related to him leading up to bakugou Katsuki rising here)
And see, Horikoshi will stare you dead in the eye, tell you “this girl has taken into consideration that she doesn’t want to waste her time training her career focusing on a boy because he kinda caught her fancy”, and y’all will still say that this will explode in her face.
Y’all this is a series about learning how to manage emotions, maturity in relationship to one’s emotions, how to feel an emotion, but in a way that is helpful. Horikoshi isn’t telling you “go buck wild, feel everything all the time and always express it”, in fact he explores why you DONT do that! Through Toga or Shigaraki, they show how grief and anger can genuinely consume you. But he also shows why you shouldn’t just put everything in a box to never look at or acknowledge, or why you shouldn’t just let your grief destroy the world around you, or pretending that some emotions simply don’t exist.
I can’t say this enough, so let me say it now, mha is about the extremes of your psyche. That you should control something, but not too much. Everything can be harmful. Everything can be good.
Izuku is not controlling too much, he’s expressing just enough.
I LOVE shaming this dickhead at all times in all my posts. I love saying he’s an ignorant dipshit with a weird amount of distaste for a girl who just confessed to him. I’ve joked that chapter 348 is basically an entire chapter spent on Izuku calling Himiko a mean dyke. And yet I also believe he’s doing nothing WRONG here.
In fact, I’ll even say that this moment right here?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ISNT EVEN IZUKU DOING THE SOCIALLY APPROPRIATE THING ABOUT IT! But he’s still TRYING to reach out to someone he thinks MIGHT be able to understand. (And frankly, this moment is far deeper than what it’s being made out to be, to me it reads more like an unrequited friendship that Izuku both desires and has thought of them to have, while simultaneously showing the distance Ochako has successfully wedged between them for her own sake. Maybe it was always there though, maybe in weird, miscommunicated Horikoshi fashion, this is a representation of how Ochako always read all those “fun friend hangouts” as a little more than that, and without those feelings the friendship never really held any substance to her in the first place. Where Izuku saw his first real friend at UA, she saw little more than acquaintance)
Simultaneously, Izuku is genuinely reflecting on what it means for the world to change, to be a hero, to live after loss—and trying and failing to gain the connection he desires from individuals who can not and will not afford him that.
Izuku is ready for the world to change, a few select characters are also ready for the world to change (mirio, for example), but not nearly enough are. So maybe I’ll have to take this back if I’m proven wrong and I accidentally looked into this far past what everyone else did for no reason, but I genuinely believe with moments like this

That Izuku has come forward with that aspect of his character development. He’s reflecting on his new beliefs, not repressing his emotions for them.

i have an old wip of aizawa secretly bringing in someone with an illusion quirk and putting 1-A in groups of two and running a training course with them and making them think something’s gone wrong and they have to watch it kill him so he can prepare them for not only seeing someone die in the field but it also being their fault… i wish i could finish that
