Jiro: A-Ameli…?? I don’t get what he just said but you can leave its flavour to me!!

Ichiro: Thanks, you two! Then, why don’t you go ahead and give it a taste?

Jiro: What? We’re about to head out.

Saburo: No, it’s just, since we’re going to have to sell it, doesn’t that mean we need to come up with a name for our curry? I think the usual naming conventions revolve around the main ingredients used in the product.

Jiro: We got vegetables, fish, meat… If we go off of that, we’ve just got a variety curry.

Ichiro: We don’t even have to worry about that! No matter the ingredients, this is the “Yamada Family’s Special Curry”! And with it, the three of us will beat all the rest!!

so i just finished watching hypmic and i might be in love with kuko harai...

i just love his character soooo much.. he's so wild and fun and loud and i LOVE it 🔊🔊🔊 and as a buddhist, i actually really like how he breaks some of the "rules" of buddhism without actually straying from the essence of buddhism itself (at least to me, this is just my opinion because i'm not too traditional myself!!!) he's quite vulgar and his behaviour may seem "unbecoming" of a buddhist but ultimately, he's a good guy!!! he's kind and compassionate with a strong sense of loyalty and moral code

but the anime definitely doesnt go as deep into hypmic lore as the game does, but i enjoyed the anime regardless!! it was a fun, easy-going watch with good music!!

i actually found out about hypmic after listening to nqrse's cover of the division rap battle and i was so intrigued by the concept of a rap battle anime. i loved it!! i'm so glad the hypmic discography is available on spotify

Slug, have you had a chance to listen to the new rhyme anima+ album yet? I’m interested to hear your thoughts on it, even though a fair amount of people think it’s not as good as the first season songs. Personally, I can forgive any and all sacrifices in quality just because the dotsuhon/mtc song might be the single greatest song ever created (and no, I’m not just saying that because they sing the line “Go shawty! Go shawty!”. Although I’m not, not saying that…). As always, dotsuhon never misses.

I finally finished watching it with a friend a couple weeks ago, and I liked most of the songs. Let me do a quick relisten and run down the list...

Also, the "Go shawty! Go shawty!" got to me too haha. Literally dropped everything I was doing to Google "shawty 意味 [definition]" in the hopes of getting some clarity on what they meant. (I was not successful. Presumably, this is another "wow, cool English word!" moment.)

Rise From Dead feels very anime-ish to me, so it's not something I would listen to on its own. But idk, it's fun and bouncy.

Bring it on is fine. BBs continue to be solid rappers. Doesn't do a ton for me in audio only.

Shinogi (Pay Respect) is a fun blend of genres that I normally like, but it's slower than I would like. Feels like the whole is worth less than its parts.

SANITY's instrumentals slap. Solid rhythm. Feels like it'd be good for a workout playlist but probably not something I'd listen to on its own.

New World's instrumentals are where it's at. I would listen to this one on its own. Dancing at my desk as I type this.

Dive in's rapping and instrumentals seem oddly disjointed with one another. (<- knows jack shit about music) Not sure if I'm a fan of this one.

An Idol has a really fun rhythm, and I like the singing. I feel like this will grow on me easily.

We go with the flow is bopping. Ichirou and Kuukou's VAs kill it as always. This would make very good workout music. Dancing at the desk again.

PUMP IT UP bring more of the dance music. And the infamous "Go, shawty! Go, shawty!" ??? out of 10. I think I could enjoy it if I pretend I don't speak English. There's a song I'm enjoying atm where the rapper keeps dropping the word "pussy" in places "pussy" should not be, and I can vibe w/ it so long as I assume I am a newborn babe and all language is indecipherable to me. Same deal here, I feel.

FIGHTER'S ROAD... Oh, this episode was an art form. I like Horsefumi's and Gentarou's sections. Without the absolutely batshit visuals, though, I don't think this is something I would voluntarily seek out.

BATTLE ANIMA+ 01 is blatantly a battle song, and I don't usually listen to them on their own. That being said, I like the rhythm and most of the rapping. The autotuned sections are cool.

BATTLE ANIMA+ 02 falls into the same camp as the previous one. A bit slower, so less up my alley, but I still like the rhythm and autotuned bits.

BATTLE ANIMA +03 sounds like RPG music. I can vibe with it. Would be good for workout playlists.

RELIEVE is...it sure is a song. That sounds like a bad thing, but it's just... I have no opinion about this whatsoever. This is music that exists. Zero idea if I like it or not.

Next Stage is FUN! It's long enough and repetitive enough that I wouldn't listen to it on its own, but it would be a much-loved addition to a workout playlist. I really, really like this one.

Yeah, I can see why some fans might be disappointed. Most of them don't strike me as stellar without their visuals, but it also takes me a while to warm up to (get Stockholm Syndromed into, maybe?) Hypmic songs in general. I'll probably be a big fan once I hear more of them.

° You search his face with your hands, going up his torso pulling slightly on his necklace on your way. Laughing he places a hand on your cheek rubbing his thumb on your lips and you shamelessly lick it off. A startled noise escapes his mouth before they finally start kissing softly.

° Pulling him towards you, you hold onto him by his neck, lightly touching the skin of his back. Gradually his lips gained confidence, demanding that yours respond with the same intensity and you are not far behind. You catch his lower lip between yours pulling him back, leaving a small bite, barely letting him recover when you come back to attack using your tongue as well. You can hear him laugh into your mouth, almost giving you a warning.

° They continue kissing in a disorderly way, panting rudely. Taking advantage of the darkness as an excuse, he becomes more daring than usual. His tongue wraps around yours in such an exquisite way that it makes you moan deeply. "Rosho!...You know that you should be careful...don't you?" ° This time his hands are less respectful, lifting your blouse and pinching your breasts, touching them with need. You arch your back in surprise but enjoying the contact, his fingers moving with the same enthusiasm as his lips. Taking everything further you open your legs to trap him between them, crossing them behind him, smacking his crotch with yours in the process.

"You don't even have to apologize, that idiot did it on purpose" you caress his back waiting for him to show his face again.

° Giving a small squeal of frustration, he puts his glasses back on and helps you to arrange your clothes while you do the same for him. When they think they are presentable enough to go out Rosho stops in front of the closed door "Y/o… no…. I don't think I can go out yet."

°Believing that he says it because he still wants to continue, you are about to kiss him madly like he did a moment ago, but it is evident that it is not so, he is really just ashamed of what happened. You would make sure to make Sasara pay for interrupting at the right time, he will not get away with this crime.

-He's actually more playful than envious about the fact that you're so strong, offering to have a little fight with him. It's more like a game for him, of course, as he has no desire to hurt you even a slightest. But if you were actually able to overwhelm his defenses and attack him, Samatoki would be excited.

-"Oh! So you actually have guts.. I like it.." - he chuckled, breathing heavily after your rap session. He steps closer and leans to you with a grin. - "It's a pity we didn't meet each other earlier, baby.. I think we'd make a good rap duo, wouldn't we?"

-Samatoki is kinda overprotective in relationships, values you more than anything in this world.. But the fact that you actually can stand up for yourself makes him really proud. That's it, you're his partner, after all! You're a powerful couple that is gonna show this cruel world what you two are made of..!

-He really wants you to teach him more pro tips, as it not would help not only him, but his whole team to improve. Yet it's kinda hard for him to confess this, as Samatoki prefers to be the one on top.. So he would just tell you he wants to have some more practice with you, as you're a worthy opponent for him.

-"I noticed you were quite soft in our first fight, darling. So don't you dare to go easy with me this time.. Or I will take the opportunity and knock you down.." - your boyfriend smirks, taking his hypmic. - "You know I can absorb your attacks? So come on, don't be shy, I want to feel your whole strength on me today.."

Even now, when Japan was under the rules of 'Party of words', and there were no weapons, the streets weren't so safe. Police always dealt with accidents about some jerks fighting each other with illegal hypmics.. When Jyuto gets another tape from the security camera of the cafe, near which another fight took place, he notices a familiar figure..

-He was quite surprised. Huh, so his precious darling was able to trick him and hide something like that?

-If you have hypmic, what do you think about making your own team? Jyuto loves to feel some competition in your relationship and see you working hard for your own division. Oh, or maybe you want to join M.T.C?

-Jyuto will never admit it but he's kinda jealous how strong you are. He would tease you about this, but actually it's a great way for him to push his limits more and catch up with your skills.

-Because, despite the fact that he's glad you're so powerful and can stand up for yourself, your boyfriend is still quite protective and wants to be the one who would defend you.

-"I think it's time for me to get serious as well, don't you think?" - Jyuto pinch your cheek with a playful grin. - "I want you to see me in my best shape and actually be proud of what a powerful boyfriend you have.."

Rio is a good survivalist, and knows how to treat any wounds. So one day, when you visited his tent, asking to help with a few scratches, he was glad to help, but quickly noticed that your bruises were different from usual ones.. It's like they were made in a fight that contains hypmics..

-He's not sad or mad about what you didn't tell him before. Well, maybe you didn't have the right opportunity, and Rio doesn't love to poke his nose in other business.

-"Oh, so you also have it, but I don't remember you to have a team.." - he nodded and smiled a little, curious. - "For what do you use it most of the time, then..?"

-He do understand that in new world without any weapon having hypmic is actually kinda normal, and he really glad you're so strong, even stronger than he.

-"I'm sure we can share some helpful info for each other.." - Rio sat next to you in his tent, bringing some hot herbal tea he just made. - "Here, let's have a little talk and then spare for a while? I'm sure you would be a great soldier in this war against me.."

-Rio doesn't want to harm you with his rap skill, only using this opportunity to have a challenge. Even if he would actually attack you, he would always warn you before this, just to see how you would defend. Yet you can use your whole strength because he wants to see your potential.

-It's actually just makes his mood better. There's nothing better for your boyfriend than just spending some time with you and learning something new from you and then teaching you some of his pro tips. He admires people who're improving themselves and wants you both to be the better version of yourself.

-He also has no envy for your power, only adoration. Of course you can try to tease him a little but honestly he's quite thick-headed.. For him this difference just means that he also should work better and harder to get such strength.

-But, despite you're so strong, your boyfriend doesn't want you to get into rap battles and form your team. As he is still trying to find ways to save his Commander, Rio starts to find more and more info about 'Party of Words' and he doesn't want you to play their dangerous game. Am sure he understands that there's something more behind this 'division rap battles' they make.

-"Please, s/o.. Always be careful.." - he mumbled, embracing you in a tight hug. - "And also don't forget that I'm by your side, okay? There's nothing we can't overcome together, dear.."

i do think this song is nice, it has good flow and the beat is pretty nice with lots of oppertunies to change the genre. Like this big group piece is probably the bridge which is a nice connector to any more hard hitting places

and honestly i do like that they went for a softer approach here, that the thing that won in the end wasn't perpetuated violence but something gentle.

i feel like it wasn't the best ending out there but it was satisfying. tied up some ends pretty nicely and kept the status quo without mucking canon up too hard. As an anime original storyline i think they handled it quite well

WHile I don't have all the thoughts to encompass this episode yet, it was overall really nice! i enjoyed the story overall and while the pacing was meh as always and you could tell where the budget went, the anime introduced really good characters that I really enjoyed. Beginning Gate quartet was so much more intresting to me than Secret Aliens. THe only thing I wish they could have done better is put some more focus on BAT and DH as it is their anime debut. Oh well, I'm happy with what we got anyways.

wait, the hypmic anime isn’t canon? how does that even work? it’s one of the things i have multiple mutuals talk about so i have been considering checking out the anime if i’m ever able to just to get a feel of the characters and stuff… but it’s not canon?

Yeah so the anime was kinda like. Just to get people into the series afaik and it does not follow the manga or drama tracks at all (which ARE canon) aside from like. Who wins the division rap battle tournaments. The songs are different, the plot is different, it's a whole time. I still think at least the intro episodes are a lot of fun, especially Fling Posse's and I get why at least those were changed from the drama tracks (cuz the drama tracks, while fun to listen and read along to, i can't imagine you'd get very far keeping the audience entertained in animated format).

However, the wiki page has translations of all the drama tracks up so you can just hop right in there! I'm told it's more fun to listen along while you read them but I've only read the unit intros for Buster Bros, MTC, Matenrou, and Fling Posse and those are quick reads without the audio and mostly just...unit introductions lol.

Hypmic Party Concept: Post 2nd DRB 💞

After their reconciliation, Jakurai and Ramuda plan to spend a weekend together just for themselves. Ramuda is reluctant at the offer at first but he gradually accepts when Jakurai says he wants to cook for him (to which, he awkwardly uses Ramuda’s poor health and “You eat only sweets!” as an excuse— not that Jakurai ever needs an excuse to meet up with Ramuda at that point). Although Ramuda would normally prefer the party type of date, he has somehow grown tired of all the canon-typical drama, anxiety and health issues he went through so he agrees to just have dinner at Jakurai’s ridiculously big house (mostly because he misses him and wonders if they can be like the old times).

Except, Hifumi and Doppo has no idea about the fact that their usually lonely bird Sensei actually has a boy— Ramuda Amemura— over, so Hifumi decides to surprise Jakurai by bringing a bunch of indrigents to cook! He is sure sensei would be alone and sulking, so he doesn’t hesitate to grab Doppo and come along— except, it is Ramuda who opens the door,. Doppo cannot process the fact that he is standing in front of Ramuda Amemura and apologizes and shuts the door thinking he came to the wrong house. Jakurai overhears and checks the door only for a very awkward (but pleasant) Matenro/JakuRamu encounter and JakuRamu’s reveal of relationship.

Ramuda then tries to play it off as they are Not Dating and he is here for Stuff, but the brilliant host Hifumi Izanami immediately Gets It, and tries to laugh it off and leave saying he shall not ✨disturb✨ (wink wink) Sensei’s private time. At that point Jakurai is also very awkward so he says he and Ramuda were “not doing much in particular” so it is okay that they can join. Ramuda, who also panics, immediately agrees that they should join and this all big thing was actually supposed to be a big SURPRISE PARTY!!! He was just about to call Gentaro and Dice too!!! A-and of course Samatoki and Ichiro! Y-You see, Ramuda planned this big party post second division rap battle and throw away the championship money by the food (there definitely is not that much food at Jakurai’s house) and Hifumi and Doppo just caught them pre-surprise! On a logical level, Jakurai and Ramuda don’t need to pretend they were not intending to have a date. But none of them could properly talk to their teammates about how “Oh I actually pretended to hate this guy but I am so irreturnably and hopelessly in love with him”, and they seem not to be quite ready for that, so they both play a big lie where everyone is quite aware of the nature of their relationship but not saying a word because they don’t want to embarass JakuRamu.

Anyway, Hifudo agrees to stay then, much to not embarass Sensei further. Ramuda, playing along with his plan, calls Gentaro and Dice. Dice comes because there is free food! Gentaro comes when he learns it’s Jakurai Jinguji’s household— he is a TDD fan, after all, he’s not missing it. Ichiro brings his bros along because it’s a party! Samatoki brings Jyuto and Rio too because why not? It is a party! Rio and Hifumi bond over cooking, TDD gathers again, Saburo plays with his phone on the corner because he is bored (that OR he is checking Jakurai’s medicine-related books and actually being impressed by his library!), Jiro is rolling the barbeque, and overall everyone is having a great time, then at some point JakuRamu find themselves alone in the kitchen while they watch the crowd on the backyard. Ramuda is still a bit tense because he casually threw up a big lie and called so many people over Jakurai’s place without ever explicitly asking for his permission— completely spontaneously too. Jakurai notices that Ramuda’s mood is off, so he asks him if something is wrong. Ramuda avoids eye contact and focuses on the plates he is preparing.

He asks, “Things will not go back to be the same… right?” and Jakurai is surprised for a moment that instead of enjoying the party, Ramuda is thinking about deep sad things. It once again reminds Jakurai just how fascinating Ramuda is. They both watch their friends— teammates— people they met through the rap (Hifudo is probably making a mess and laughing really loud on a corner). Jakurai smiles it off and pats Ramuda’s head. “Perhaps not,” Jakurai says and Ramuda flinches. Jakurai says, “It can’t go back to be the same. But, I am still looking forward to the future we build.” Ramuda gives Jakurai The Emotional Teary Eyed Look that he gave him a few times in canon and he feels like he is about to cry but at that moment Dice abrubtly enters the kitchen for food, absolutely clueless about the romantic moment he just interrupted. He asks Ramuda where the popcorn is— then why Ramuda looks so freaking sad. JakuRamu blushes awkwardly and then Ramuda laughs it off and speaks in his bubbly voice while giving Dice a bowl of popcorn. Dice asks if they are not coming back. Ramuda spares a quick look at Jakurai and then, with a spontaneous decision, holds Jakurai’s hand and pulls him to backyard, where all of their friends are. He says Jakurai is right. The end.

So kind of a dumb reason for liking a franchise, but one of the main things why I fell in love with Hypmic is the rapping aspect in the sense of speed the words go, tone, delivery, intonation, accent etc. it was so satisfying to listen because while I have a pretty bad speech impediment and can't rap to save my life but hearing others do it makes me smile so much. Maybe that's why people say you can "vibe" to the music even without understanding it completely/having the ability to sing yourself

Tbh not a dumb reason at all!!!! The characters and overarching storyline are all very awesome and interesting, but, considering it's a music-centric franchise, I feel like liking the music itself should be a big part of liking the whole thing. Sure, the audio dramas and manga and the anime are great, but the music is the core of it.

But you're absolutely so right. I love rap and hip-hop - I'm not too knowledgeable about the culture and stuff, I just love the way it sounds - and honestly Hypmic has pretty high quality rappers. Which is interesting, because I know most are primarily voice actors, and it's not as if rapping is something you can do with zero training, skill or talent. There's definitely a big difference between a bad rapper and a good one, which even a layman can notice tbh but to my ear, all the rappers in Hypmic are pretty good. Sasara especially imo. Personally, I found Jakurai's verse in Division Rap Battle a bit weak, but even that was a good verse, just not exactly my style. A lot of the VAs also portrayed characters in various idol media (a big chunk of them are also in enstars and idolish), but it's not like being good at singing would also make you good at rapping, so it is pretty cool, to me, that a lot of the Hypmic cast can do both. It's not just speed, fast rap doesn't necessarily mean good rap, but, as you said, they all have such good enunciation, intonation, accents, delivery and flow!!! It all comes together and the end result is surprisingly good. I remember, when I just got into it, making a post like "It makes me so irrationally angry that a media about anime boy rappers features raps this good" and well pretty much. It's not something I expected, but it sure was a good surprise.

And you can absolutely enjoy music without singing/rapping along or even understanding. If I'm feeling myself and the verse of the moment is too fast for me or I just don't know the language well enough, I just adlib lol and headbanging!!! A vibe is a feeling first and foremost :D

it kills me the things people who don't see the stageplays don't know. rosho and sasara saved some cute ass kids and jyushi joined a CULT and samatoki has an entire emotional BALLAD about missing his sister?????? like yeah the albums would definitely not do that

I went into them completely blindly without any spoilers and ost my shit when track 4 started covering the manga?? and every other stageplay fits into the manga+drama track canon really neatly in my opinion, there's so much unfilled time in hypmic it fits in easily enough. rhyme anima felt kinda empty so I'm really glad the stages provided another way to see the stories come to life, it really was impressive

the stage play canon actually diverges from regular canon at a few points! for example buster bros and fling posse wind up winning their respective division rap battles and go on to face each other, with fling posse as the ultimate winner! not that i’m sure exactly when and where this takes place, and i don’t know any more details than that; i’ve just seen what i think were promotional trailers or web exclusives while digging for content on disreputable video sites. other than that, i’ve seen it pointed out that ramuda as a character is presented pretty differently in hypste—he’s way more spiteful and vindictive even up to the present day, going so far as to basically psychologically torture jakurai in TWO different shows just because! which i think is pretty bold for a franchise that depends on its boys being likable and marketable.

Day 5: Favorite MTC Member

Mr. Hardcore, Yokohama Bad Boy, Samatoki-sama himself! He’s one of the characters that has this perfect combination of story relevance, good musical presence and strong personality that makes it hard to not pay attention to him. Although, hilariously, he’s like one of those characters, I would want so badly to square up against. Might I lose? Sure, but I feel it’s a win if I a good hit in. I know it’s such a strange thing to want to do to someone I just said is a favorite. But I think it’s just my thing towards the tsun he puts forward. 

Why do I like Samatoki? Well to start I do actually really like the ‘aesthetics’ of his music. I don’t know why everyone shits on gangsta rap so badly when I’ve listened to genres containing subjects just as bad. I digress anyway, I think I like it because it gives me a sense of nostalgia. A lot of his and MTC’s sound remind me of hip hop and rap that I used to listen to as a child. And I have no idea why but I am so thoroughly entertained by him calling himself by ‘ore-sama’ and being very picky about the respect his name is given. Especially considering he’s quite...irreverent. 

And yet. Yet. This man possesses such a heart towards those in his fold. He’s so low-key about his care both because he doesn’t feel to do kindness to be recognized. That and because he’d be embarrassed as all hell if someone did figure it out. Samatoki’s priorities never waver from those that he could consider ‘family.’ Enough so that even if the world itself were against them, Samatoki without hesitation would make the world his enemy and fight tooth and nail to have them survive. 

Also I find it interesting despite me saying he’s irreverent...Samatoki’s pretty respectful in a lot of senses. I know that sounds crazy considering...I mean there’s a card of him about to kick someone’s ass! But ultimately, he is a family sort of guy and good at it considering that Nemu is shown to be a kind woman with the strength to protect whom she can (not discrediting Nemu’s own personality and being but it does feel like she got it from her brother). He is loyal to the oyabun and set on doing things properly in terms of tradition as seen in the New Years event in ARB. He still is fairly deferential towards Jakurai when they’re not actively in battle with each other. Which, again, is crazy considering like.....*gestures at him*

He also doesn’t drag nor tries to initiate violence/trouble in front of children and he put himself on the line for sake of helping out a family. The former I believe is a big aspect of the MTC storyline in ARB. Jyuto may have done it as an experiment but he wasn’t wrong. As for the latter I mean, a lot of drama tracks and event hooks for Samatoki involve the endangerment of children such as in TDD’s drama track where he jumped in because of a child being kidnapped; disowning instead of killing a subordinate for betraying him and saving the subordinate’s sibling, which is why he did it in the first place, in the anime; and when he endangered himself, Jyuto, Doppo and Hifumi by making it obvious who they were so terrorists didn’t target civilians including children in an ARB event. 

Obviously he has some other agendas while he accomplishes these things but we all know why he really went. Samatoki knows the pain of loss and helplessness. To have given your all to shelter and protect and it still not be enough to keep them. It is a pain I honestly think has shaken Samatoki to his core. And while I don’t think he feels their pain, he just knows that no one should have to feel what he went through if it’s within his power. And he is sure of a lot of his power. 

Which is why I find it wild about his ‘adherence’ to his phrase of ‘life is not fair.’ He’s actually the only I can think of that actively says his. I mean granted it’s also short enough to be used but still. To me, it sounds like the most defeatist thing that ever leaves Samatoki’s mouth. And it feels so odd because all of Samatoki’s personality and actions run counter to that. Life is not fair, yes, but he’s gone and MADE it fair. For all those that he helped, HE was an equalizer that gave them a chance for their life to a little more fair. Maybe he says it because his lot in life was particularly unlucky but at the same time, he’s never let it stay that way. He strives to be a man that isn’t like his father, he honors his mother’s memory, he did what he could ensure there IS a life for himself and Nemu....hell, he was willing to start revolution because he though what was now life for normal people was not fair! Life is not fair but everything about Samatoki feels like it works to counter that.
