I started watching Moriarty The Patriot 3 days ago— I don’t know why I even kept it waiting since 2021. It has been just 3 days into this masterpiece and I have already bought the first volume of manga, styled a cosplay wig, drabbled fanfiction scripts, memorized DYING WISH (opening 1) and made stickers out of it. I don’t know why, but it hit me so hard. It is the first time in two years that something other than Hypnosis Mic excited me this much!
Though, Hypnosis Mic itself is the reason I started Moriarty in the first place— I went there only with the expectation of listening to the brilliant voice actor Saito Soma’s voice acting! He voices the lead role, Moriarty himself! AND moreover!? The plot reminds me a lot of Psycho Pass, especially season 1! Makishima Shogo is the favorite character of all times in my heart, and in this plot not only does Moriarty have a very similar role to Shogo, they have the same character designer with the person who illustrated part of Psycho Pass’ manga. The story is less gore and more light hearted compared to Psycho Pass, the art and music is wonderful and the characters are gorgeous.
I have never been someone specifically into crime and murder, I know Sherlock Holmes stories of course, from my childhood books, but I don’t go out of my way to seek detective stories. Again, I only seeked Moriarty The Patriot because I wanted to watch Soma Saito’s voice acting performance. BUT oh boy, not only Soma-san is AMAZING (though Moriarty The Partiot feels like it all is Gentaro’s tale he is telling to Dice in his smooth cute voice and he will finish with Uso desu yo), BUT THERE IS SO MUCH MORE! I am so so so happy and amazed of this work by all means!
Definitely recommended!
And if you are a Hypnosis Mic fan, just check it out for Soma Saito. Plot is different, but he is the same gorgeous actor. You can hear Gentaro amongst the lines and it just ADDS UP a lot to the fun! ❤️

Can you explain gentaro/gentaro's brother identity switch a little bit? I've been trying to find info online but I can't find a source and I'm dying for content
Of course!!! Under the cut for spoilers and also because I tried to be thorough.
First of all: Our Gentaro not being real Gentaro. I’m about to say Gentaro a lot in this post so for the sake of clarity, Gentaro 1.0 is his brother, Gentaro 2.0 is the Gentaro we know.
So Gen2.0 has both alluded to and straight up said that he is “not Gentaro Yumeno”. In the Marionette drama track, when they’re sharing secrets, he says he isn’t really Gentaro Yumeno, but Dice and Ramuda don’t take it seriously, so he just laughs it off. No “it was a lie”, no silly voices. In the “Catch Us If You Can” drama track, when Gen2.0 takes them to a safe place to hide, Dice asks what this place is, and he says “It’s Gentaro Yumeno’s study, although I ‘myself’ have never used it.”
We know Gentaro has a brother. This was first revealed in one drama track (the second maybe) where he’s visiting his pre-established “friend” at the hospital, but bids farewell by calling him “nii-san”. Our second clue was, again in the Marionette secret reveal scene, he jokes about Dice being his brother. He pulls an “uso desu yo”, but says there was a bit of truth in it. This is finally elaborated on in the Catch Us If You Can drama track, when he goes to his brother’s editor to try to get Gen1.0’s manuscript. The editor refers to Gen2.0 as “ototo-kun” (essentially just “little brother”), and Gen2.0 argues for his brother’s manuscript. The editor also teases him saying “Although, I guess you’re an author now too, aren’t you?”
So, the full timeline with the filled in details of everything we solidly know, is as follows:
Gen1.0 was an author who “risked his life” to create a manuscript to expose Chuuoku’s corruption. It was never published because his editor decided to use it for monetary blackmail. Gen1.0 is currently comatose, likely due to Chuuoku. Gen2.0 began acting as his brother to try to continue his work of investigating Chuuoku, and is now in way too deep.
Of course, I didn’t have to type all that because they revealed this exact thing word for word early in the manga and none of us took it seriously.
(Of course the final one I personally theorize to be about Ramuda, which is why I talk about how Gen2.0 didn’t LOSE anything when giving up the manuscript, because he did it to save the very person Gen1.0 was trying to save, too.)
Now for my own thoughts: INCREDIBLY fucked up how Gen2.0 has been basically “crying for help” in a sense this whole time. All he’s been writing about under the name Gentaro Yumeno is this situation he’s trapped in, and by all means he was ready to reveal he wasn’t Gen1.0 to Fling Posse at the very first opportunity they presented him. He’s very dedicated to his job of continuing his brother’s work, but there’s so many cracks in the facade. He says he’s fine being anyone but himself but I think he wants to tell FP more than anyone. At the end of the Marionette drama track, he was the first to say “Okay cool now let’s all reveal our secrets” but Ramuda stopped him, saying they didn’t need to. It’s poetic in that, similar to Ramuda, it’s about them loving him for the person he is rather than who he presents himself to be (Dice’s line in Black Journey: “You say you’re not ‘yourself’? I don’t care, because I know you.”) Also I’ve joked about it on main but it’s basically the same thing as what happened in Gravity Falls

love how hypmic incorporates the cultures of each city into the division members! ramuda representing shibuya’s fashion community, jiro’s sunshine motif being a reference to a street on otome road, doppo and hifumi representing the fact that 90% of gay bars are in shinjuku,
