Okay I had to think looooong and haaaaard about this one because it's an interesting concept, but, as you said, it can turn dark very quickly. I'm not sure if I analyzed it properly tbh, but I hope this gives you a nice idea of how I think the dynamic would go.

First, Jin as a yandere in his usual setting would probably be an extremely controlling man. He'd demand MC to be at his beck and call at any given moment and would probably tell them what they can or cannot do, what to wear, what to say, basically how exist as "his property".

I've had someone say that it's a bit upsetting that the boys as yanderes see MC as an object to possess, but that's just how most yanderes act; they might love their darling, but most of all, they're obsessed – they want to possess them. It's the nature of a yandere character, so I'd have to say Jin would be the blueprint for that.

Now, in that king x court jester dynamic, things would escalate A LOT MORE.

I researched the accurate definition of what a jester used to do, and they used to be "a member of the household of a nobleman or a monarch employed to entertain guests during royal court."

Okay, well. Forget about entertaining other people. You'd be Jin's personal plaything, and no one else would be allowed to watch your lovely acts. And of course, that would allow him to demand more intimate ways of entertainment too...

You'd have to be ready to be his pillow; to light his cigarettes; to smother him in kisses and sweet words whenever he got stressed; to follow him around wherever he went like a loyal puppy; and, just like one, he'd expect you to never complain.

Summary: After breaking up with Seungmin you receive a text message from someone unexpected.

No longer holding onto Seungmin and letting him go hurt. It left you feeling regretful. Why did you watch him fall out of love with you? Why didn’t you do something about it? Was there anything you could do about it? Why didn’t you have the courage to confront him about it instead of tiredly trying to hold onto him as if there was nothing wrong in your relationship? Why couldn’t you have let him go sooner? All of these questions were eating away at you as you cooped yourself up in your room. Crying until your tears couldn’t fall anymore. However even after you run out of tears your heart still aches. 

Alas you couldn’t stay cooped up in your room forever, not if you wanted to pay your bills. So you got yourself out of bed and fixed up your appearance and got ready for work. 

“Just make it through the workday,” you mumbled to yourself, heading inside of your workplace. You dived right into doing your work, trying to keep yourself as busy as possible. Using your work as a distraction for your broken heart. It served as a very good distraction. That was until your lunch break, you debated working through it. Though that would only result in you finishing up early and leaving you where you are now, without a distraction. 

Almost as if someone knew about your situation your phone lights up with a notification. You were a bit scared to check it though, fearing that it might be Seungmin. He only contacted you once. It was the day after you broke up with him. It was him apologizing once again and asking if you could give him a chance to explain. You didn’t want to hear it though. You didn’t need an explanation, you knew what happened, you watched it happen. You never responded to his message. Debated blocking him, but as you stared at the block button you found that you didn’t have the heart to do it. 

Working up the courage you grabbed your phone checking the notification. Much to your relief it wasn’t Seungmin, but you were caught by surprise at who it was. It was Jiseok. You opened the notification revealing a message from Jiseok. It was a meme, just like he used to always send you. A genuine smile appeared on your face. It was the first genuine smile you wore in a while.

Contrary to your bit of happiness Jiseok was feeling  a bit of panic on his end. 

“Oh, crap crap crap,” he cursed out. When he first came across the meme he automatically went to send it to you without thinking about how you and Seungmin are broken up. Now he stares at the delivered sign anxiously. You probably thought that it was weird. A friend of your ex texting you. However as he is mid way through typing out an apology you responded with a laughing face emoji. Now Jiseok is the one who is smiling, after he let out a sigh of relief. His smile grew more as you sent him another message. “Thank you I needed that” it read. He thinks for a moment before typing out a reply. “Happy to be of service 🫡” 

“What are you smiling about?” Jooyeon suddenly appears at Jiseok’s side, pestering him. 

“Nothing!” Jiseok quickly calls out, hibernating his phone and fumbling it onto his lap. 

“Well now I know it’s something. Let me see.” Jooyeon reaches for Jiseok’s phone to which Jiseok quickly bats him away. 

“It was just a meme,” Jiseok states, trying to keep Jooyeon away from his phone. 

“Let me see it,” Jooyeon insisted. Jiseok sighed, unlocking his phone and scrolling up in your twos’ chat to click on the meme. 

“See look meme,” Jiseok showed Jooyeon.

“No wonder you were acting weird. That meme is so lame,” Jooyeon remarked. 

“Y/n didn’t think so,” Jiseok defended. Then he realized what he just said with wide eyes. “I mean-” he tried to save it. 

“You sent it to y/n?” It was too late to save it. Jiseok admits defeat. Mentally scolding himself for slipping up.

“Yes, it was an accident though. I did it out of habit. I forgot that they and Seungmin broke up,” Jiseok explained. 

“How are they?” Jooyeon asked. Jiseok shrugged. 

“I don’t know. They thanked me for sending the meme. Said that they needed it, so I assume they’re not the best,” Jiseok frowned. Jooyeon’s face became filled with discontent too. 

“I guess that should be expected though. Seungmin isn't great either,” Jooyeon noted. 

“He deserves it though.” Jiseok is still bitter to say the least. Jiseok can’t forget the sight of you crying that day. Seeing you cry like that made him feel a stabbing pain in his heart and you told him that you wanted to be alone. That was one of the last things he wanted to do, leave you alone. It was what you asked for though, so of course he respected it. Leaving your place with his heart feeling heavy. He is Seungmin’s friend, but he can’t find any sympathy for him over this situation. In fact Jiseok laughed when Seungmin told them about how she rejected him. Told Seungmin that it served him right. Yes, maybe he was being a bit too mean, but he didn’t care. Not when he thinks about your crying eyes and the words that you said. “I’m not surprised [...] I watched him fall out of love with me”. He’s Seungmin’s friend, but really didn’t like Seungmin at the moment. 

“He regrets it,” Jooyeon said, causing Jiseok to give him a look. “Look, yes, what he did was awful. We all agree on that. Even Seungmin admits that, but he clearly regrets it. I know you can see that Jiseok,” he continued. Jooyeon was right, he could see that Seungmin was remorseful. He believes Seungmin when he said that he wished he never met her, but Jiseok was having a hard time forgiving him when he knows how hurt you are. 

“I do, but you didn’t see them cry Jooyeon. You didn’t see the look on their face when they said they watched Seungmin fall out of love with them. Y/n has been hurting for months. They’ve been hurting since Seungmin met her, so I can’t say that I feel sorry about him not being great. Even if this sounds messed up. I’m glad he’s getting to feel the pain that y/n felt for months,” Jiseok declared. 

Seungmin who was standing outside the room felt tears sting his eyes. Not at Jiseok’s harsh words towards him, but about hearing how hurt you were. He remembers you telling him that you watched him fall out of love with you and in love with her, but he never truly processed those words. Not until he heard Jiseok say them. He really messed up. He was hurting you for such a long time while being oblivious to it. Thinking back now he can see it. The way you were holding onto him and hurting yourself by doing so. You even apologized for it. “I’m sorry I know you were still talking to them.” You apologize for interrupting him from talking to the girl he was developing feelings for while he was still with you. Jiseok was right, he did deserve to feel the pain he’s feeling. Seungmin slid down the wall onto the floor crying. How could he have been so horrible to you in the last months of your relationship together. Why did he fall for her when he already had you?

Jiseok and Jooyeon exit the room to find Seungmin there just outside. Jiseok feels conflicted in moments like these. The sight of his friend crying makes him want to comfort him, but then he remembers why he’s crying and then he just thinks about how he deserves it. Upon hearing Jiseok and Jooyeon exit the room Seungmin looked up. 

“You’re right Jiseok, I deserve it. I hurt y/n for so long. I deserve this,” Seungmin says. Jiseok only nodded, leaving Jooyeon to comfort him. It was gonna take time for their friendship to be restored, but Jiseok could tell Seungmin meant what he said. They’re friendship was gonna be ok, it just needed time. 

You made it through your workday, arriving home. You felt a bit better, still not great, but better. Your heart still aches and memories of you and Seungmin seemed to be everywhere you looked. You pushed through though, you had to. It was time to start moving on. Somehow you found yourself rereading your last conversation with Jiseok and you’re smiling again, but you don’t if it’s necessarily because of the meme. 

The week goes on and you find yourself feeling a bit better each day, beginning to get in the swing of things again. It was still hard and you’d be lying if you said you weren’t still thinking about Seungmin. It was a bit different though. Instead of thinking about the end of your relationship with him and all the things that went wrong. It’s more reminiscent. Looking back over your relationship as a whole, all the good times you had together. Right now remembering these happy memories make you feel sad and dampen tissues with your tears. You are grieving your relationship with Seungmin. It’s needed so that you’ll be able to move on from it.

The message that illuminates your phone successfully makes your tears come to a halt. It was another message from Jiseok. This time it was a funny video. You clicked on the video, watching it. Replacing the sound of your sniffling nose with laughter. These messages from Jiseok were moments of light in your dark times. Your messages with him even started to branch out to be more than just memes and funny videos. They started with you talking about the sent meme or funny video. Then some messages like “How was your day?”’ or “It’s dinner time don't forget to eat” snuck their way into your conversations. They were never long conversations, yet they felt like a breath of fresh air. You found that your heart always felt lighter when talking with Jiseok. 

Jiseok’s heart felt lighter when he was talking to you too. He’s the one that started sneaking in “How was your day?” into your conversations. He was quite nervous the first time he did it, fearing that you might think that it was weird. A gigantic smile graced his face when you replied to it. Frankly Jiseok wanted to talk to you more and more, but was held back by the fear of him contacting you being weird. You never said anything, but him being your ex’s friend stuck in his head. It would be odd for your ex’s friend to form a friendship with you right? However when you texted him a photo of a duck in a pond telling him that you saw him today he began to not care so much. He started to text you as he pleased. No longer initiating conversations with memes or funny videos.  

“Bro why are you always smiling at your phone? Did you finally find yourself a lover?” Gunil questioned him one day. 

“What? No. I was just…” Messaging with you. 

“Was just?” Gunil motioned for him to continue. Jiseok didn’t know if he should tell the others about him talking with you. 

“Talking with someone.” he decides to go with. 

“Talking with someone?” Gunil arched his brow.

“Yeah.” Jiseok nodded. He hoped that Gunil would just drop it. 

“You’re talking with someone who is not your lover, but they make you smile like a fool in love,” Gunil stated. 

“I don’t smile like a fool in love,�� Jiseok refuted, but right then you responded to his message making his phone light up with your name and that’s when he felt it. Boom Boom. His heart beated. Oh. Oh! Jiseok feels like a wave just crashed onto him. He liked you. Jiseok liked you.

“Oh my god,” Jiseok uttered. Panic started to fill his body, much like when he first accidentally sent you that meme without thinking. 

“What?” Gunil asked, giving him a weird look. 

“I like them,” Jiseok spoke out loud, but it was more to himself.

“Congrats you have a crush,” Gunil said. 

“No you don’t understand,” Jiseok stated. 

“Understand what?” Gunil questioned. Not at all understanding what Jiseok could be so bothered about. 

“I like y/n,” Jiseok proclaimed. Gunil looks at Jiseok in shock. 

“You like y/n?” This wasn’t Gunil asking, it was Seungmin. Jiseok thought he might throw up as he saw Seungmin standing there in the doorway. Right when their friendship started to mend again.

“Ye-No! Maybe?...yes.” Jiseok looks down at his feet. Why did he feel like he was in the wrong though? He didn’t do anything wrong. Jiseok picked his head up. “Yes, I like y/n,” he spoke confidently. He looks at Seungmin waiting for him to say something. 

“Are you gonna tell them?” Seungmin asked. Jiseok can’t quite read the look in his eyes.

“I don’t know. I just found out that I like them. I haven’t thought that far yet.” It’s supposed to be a serious moment, but Jiseok’s answer makes everyone in the room laugh.

“You should,” Seungmin says after the laughter calmed down. His answer was surprising to hear.

“What?” Jiseok looked at Seungmin in disbelief. Gunil takes this moment to slowly leave the room, leaving the two to talk, but also eavesdrop from the outside. 

“Tell y/n that you like them,” Seungmin stated.

“Aren’t you upset?” Jiseok questioned. He knew Seungmin wasn’t over you, still regretting what he did. 

“A bit, but you should tell them. We’re over, I’ve come to terms with that, so tell them.” Seungmin’s words are sincere. “Just don’t hurt them like I did.” It’s a bittersweet moment. 

“I’m not that stupid,” Jiseok played, knocking his shoulder with Seungmin’s. 

“Good.” Seungmin knocked him back.

“Are you busy today? Can we meet?” Jiseok’s text brings a sense of deja vu, but not with a bad feeling in your stomach. Instead you feel excitement at the thought of seeing him again and maybe some butterflies. “I’m not busy. We can meet,” you texted back. 

Jiseok arrives at your apartment not long after and you welcome him inside with a smile. Jiseok smiles back. He wiped his sweaty palms on his pants before taking a seat on the couch. 

“Um I don’t know how to say this,” Jiseok says. 

“That sounds familiar,” you joked as you sat down beside him. Jiseok chuckles. 

“It’s not bad news this time. At least I hope it’s not. I guess it’s more for you to decide,” he discloses. 

“What is it?” you questioned. 

“I like you,” he confessed. It’s not what you were expecting him to say. Although you don’t know what you were expecting either. You felt your heart beat Boom Boom. You smiled. You liked Jiseok too. You’re not sure when it happened. Maybe when he asked you how your day was. Maybe when he reminded you to eat dinner. Maybe when that duck in the pond reminded you of him.

“That’s not bad news,” you told him. Jiseok looked at you hopefully. “I like you too,” you confessed. Jiseok scoots over to hug you, holding on to you. You hug him back, holding onto him.

Yandere!Mammon would at first like your new attitude because it means he can do whatever he likes with you, but then it would start to bother him. I think he actually likes the banter the two of you get into, so seeing how deflated you are now would make him kind of sad. He'd probably try to act goofier to make you laugh and chide him. The not eating, Mammon wouldn't see a problem with a first, just thinking youre on a harsh diet (which isnt abnormal in his social circles because hes a model), but once you started showing physical symptoms like being faint, sallow skin, shaking hands, brain fog, he would tell you to stop it and eat more. He might do this in a snarky way to hide that he feels bad for the role he played in your becoming like this.

Yandere!Levi has more experience with two dimensional people than real people, so I don't think he'd quite understand how bad things were getting for a long time. He'd see you losing the will to fight as making you more sweet and gentle, and make you dress up in frilly lacy pink things like docile characters in whatever he's reading/watching. He also would probably agree with you that it increases how dainty you seem for you to eat less, remarking on how you're like a doll that only he gets to play with. He wouldn't notice until your symptoms got much, much worse that there's a problem, and I think it would probably take him asking one of his brothers (in a poorly disguised hypothetical) to figure out exactly what's wrong.

Yandere!Satan doesn't just want you to be docile, he wants complete and active submission. Saying that to say, he doesn't just want you to nod when he's talking to you, he wants you to kneel and bow until your head touches the floor. If you are submissive in that way, he will love it. If you're not, he'd be irritated and you can expect more abuse until you get it right. Once you start eating less, though, he'd probably consult with some books on humans to figure out what has gone wrong with his. Eventually he'd find some stuff about the physical impacts of eating less and the psychology of the way you're behaving. Then start trying to unwilt you the way someone does to a plant, so he'd take you outside on walks on a leash, play music for you, let you talk to one person a day (humans are social creatures, after all) and tell you to eat more. If you refuse to eat he will make you eat by force.

Yandere!Asmo won't like that you're more docile because to him it would feel like you're less attentive. He likes when you're outgoing and opinionated, he wants you to be fully present with him (and only him) and reactive. He'd assume you're kind of depressed so he'd take you to do fun stuff to try and cheer you up, like shopping and amusement parks and spas. With the not eating, I think Asmo subscribes to diet culture in general because of some lines of dialogue he has, including a couple about dieting himself, so he probably wouldn't even give you not eating a second thought. He may give you a compliment or two. I think he would be another who needs someone else to point out that it's becoming an issue.

Yandere!Beel would not like that you are romanticizing the situation because to him the way that he restricts and sometimes abuses you is a means to an end, where you can be a happy family together and you won't try to run away any more LOL He would try and tell you that he's not really like that so you don't need to get used to it, and when you seem comfortable while restrained he would be sad. The not eating would also make him really sad. He would encourage you to eat more and more, and probably would also force you to eat if you didn't.

Because of his own experience with being restrained, if Yandere!Belphie is chaining you up and abusing you, you have probably made him very, very angry. At this point he doesn't trust you at all, and you've probably done something to make him feel abandoned. He'd not buy your docile "act" and maybe even mock you for it (Belphegor ur chapter 16 is showing). You'd better work hard at regaining his good favor, because who knows what he'll decide to do if you let him stew on it? He also would not like you not eating your food, but at this point he's more likely to just order you to eat rather than force feeding you.

The act of giving in is very uncharacteristic for Kate Whistler, and deep down, Lucy knows why Kate is agreeing. She knows why Kate is so willing to let Lucy back into her bed despite their issues. And she knows why Kate is currently gently clearing off Lucy’s side of the bed that is so obviously slept-on instead of Kate’s usual side.

But Lucy pushes those thoughts deep, deep down, and instead buries her face into a pillow and listens to Kate’s uneven breathing. “I can hear you thinking,” she says, feels Kate shift behind her. “Relax, okay? We’re just two people…sleeping next to each other…to get one night of rest. It doesn’t have to be weird.”

Kate gives a huff of a disbelieving laugh. “Right,” she mumbles. “Not weird at all.”

Tbh the only real difference between anon and attaching your name is that I have the choice to reply to you privately if you send an ask under your name (which is sometimes preferrable if the question is personal or really niche!) and that gives me more options. Anon forces me to only answer publicly (which is probably why you're seeing that so much!!), but the downside is that sometimes I have to delete anon messages when I don't want the responses or even the ask/s on my public blog.

Anyway! This is something I'd respond to publicly anyway, because I think this is a fear a lot of new and young writers have. The tl;dr is that copyright is often assumed on the internet, provenance makes it easy to send DMCA takedowns, and letting a fear of piracy stop you from putting your work up is one of the biggest ways I see new authors handicap themselves on the web currently (idk if it's confirmation bias or what but it seems like I see this several times each month atm from specifically new authors), and it's like...not a thing...to be hampering yourself with.

Okay, now for the longer explanation:

The first thing with copyright is that it by and large depends on your country and what you want to do with the story. In Australia, every created work by default has legal copyright protection simply by being created by someone. We don't need to pay to apply for copyright on creative works, we automatically have it and if we can prove provenance (i.e. if we can demonstrate we created it first, with like a document date etc.) we are legally protected.

So I can't answer for the country you're in, anon, but honestly, this is how it works on most of the internet where you're likely to put a project online. AO3 will respect that a work is yours if it gets stolen, if you can prove you came up with it or published it before another person did (literally all you need is a screenshot or a link). In the Properties or Details of most of your documents, the 'date created' is your best friend.

I've had my work stolen quite a few times over the years. It's been stolen the most from AO3 over to Wattpad (it's almost like Wattpad authors don't realise that sometimes we look lol).

In one case, blanket commenting on one of the fics that the original fic was on AO3 *and complete and not stolen* was enough for the author themselves to take it down. x.x Otherwise what you generally do is send a DMCA takedown notice, which almost all creative sites give you access to when reporting theft (your readers cannot do this for you, you must do it.)

Similarly, on AO3, if this happens, you can just report it. The big downside here is that it can take the volunteers there some time - sometimes up to two weeks or more - to get on top of that, so it might feel like nothing at all is happening. Patience is recommended.

Look, theft happens, you can't avoid it. It is a normal part of putting your work out there in the world. And I can't tell you how many new authors I know who kind of shoot themselves in the foot trying to prevent the acts of thieves, while not realising they're hampering themselves in the process.

Pirating is the worst, but so is never putting your work out there, or waiting for a magical protection from piracy. It doesn't exist - and there's a general rule where the more steps you introduce to stop or reduce piracy, the more you actually alienate your general readers - think about how having right-click disabled on a website can feel, for example. It's considered hostile internet architecture that is often very inaccessible.

(There's also a phenomenon where the authors most scared of theft are the ones least likely to encounter it, because their works are new, and they'll need a lot of time to build up readers and engagement in the first place. Most of the time, those who plagiarise don't want to take the works of new/young authors over the works of experienced authors who just won't think to check the sites they're using. By the time you're popular enough for that to be an issue, you'll probably have more confidence in yourself and your ability to handle this. I will say theft of ebooks on sites like Amazon etc. is way more common than theft of original stories and fanfics on AO3, but both happen more often than they used to, that's just...sadly a part of life.)

Also, applying for copyright doesn't mean your work won't get stolen. You'll still have to send DMCA takedowns, and you'll still have to get in contact with websites. A lot of the time websites have a form you can fill out. You still have to do all that labour and pay to register copyright. The filing of copyright is sadly not a magical shield against theft of a creative work. It does make it easier to take someone to court, but that's expensive, often not worth it, and the labour someone can spend chasing down thieves is often better spent amongst the readers who actually give a shit (they're the ones who often notice the theft in the first place when it comes to serials).

If you plan on publishing ebooks, there's software and organisations you can pay a monthly fee to, who just exist to issue takedown notices to piracy sites so you don't have to. I've never used these personally, but from what I've read on Facebook writing groups, they're often not worth it compared to the past, because new sites spring up all the time. But different authors have different experiences with online theft (and different levels of income to combat it) so you'll hear different things on that front.

I'm...pretty zen about it. To me, it's only a worry when I have to send someone a notice about it, which I don't actually have to do all that often. Like, it sucks, but almost always it never happens as much as a new author like yourself fears it will. That doesn't mean you won't hate it when it happens, but you'll live, and your works will keep finding readers, and it won't be what you're likely imagining it will be. It's for most authors, just an occasional giant pain in the ass that we forget about a day or two later sdakfjdsa

Ao3 also heavily relies on tagging. Those multi-chap multi-fandom reader things have tons of tags. Unfortunately, if you're anything like me, once it comes time to tag... it's like someone asking your favorite song 😅. Like I was working through your ao3 a bit ago because I was worried old blog links wouldn't work well on mobile and ie I think you didn't have omega aventurine tag in night flower (sorry if I'm misremembering)? And technically that's a searchable tag that might have gotten you more hits because it's both searchable and relatively niche.

Just tagging is a huge help. There are tags for specific relationship dynamics, au's/Canon divergences that are popular, different nsft acts/positions/knks, tropes of course... however it can be hard to know which ones are searchable unless you're on ao3 enough. I wonder if anyone has ever made a guide? I also know for sure that tagging characters separately from the ship "/" tag helps.

And multi-chapter stuff does get more hits because you go to the top of the date sorted options more times. I have a lot of one-shots on my account (from cross-posting) and I'm pretty sure the reason any of them got over 1k is because I'm writing for rarer characters in a larger fandom or for a large fandom that still has surprisingly few fics (oh naruto). The only one I've got that has more is both complete and I restricted myself from posting all chapters at once even though I wanted to be done with it. And yeah, unfortunately, unless your fandom is so niche you end up on the last few pages of a search or the fic gets so popular you end up in the first few, fics tend to get buried after a few weeks.

Tl;dr more tags are better because it lets people find you from many different angles! But there is some fandom-characteristic stuff that tends to either help or hurt depending on where you are.

... and there's a lot of meh fics in the top spots of many fandoms 😅 just because of the numbers game (complete, multi-chap, popular fan ship etc). I read your piece! It's good and has that mao panache 🥰, I liked it even though world references go over my head since I've not seen the show. Don't let the numbers get you down 💜 you're a really great writer! It sucks when effort doesn't seem to reflect the reaction (also kudos are famously low, good-normal is about 10% of your hits and you *might* get 1-5% comments of kudos based on whether that fandom is chattier/ more social with each other) but I hope you know we still appreciate having fun with you 🤗

It won't get rid of the wound, and while it may ease the pain in the beginning, it's only temporary, and oftentimes, when you take the same pain reliever for so long, it soon stops taking any effects and might even cause more harm than before. His luxury bags and dresses are nice, but the perks aren't really there anymore, it's overused and the pain still comes back. Without trying to mend things with anything of substance, those things he buys end up being useless. Can't patch up a marriage with duct tape bestie 🫡 He can't replace his absence with gifts and he can't take away boredom with luxury. In response to your post about your writing...

Forgive the essay, but you're one of the best writers I've seen on this platform. My favorite is probably "the years start coming and they don't stop coming"; it never gets old. I also LOVE "The Sphynx" and "Dirty Pop(sicles)" (but that last one... lmao).

I think the way you write is typically clear, concise, and interesting. You do a good job at varying sentence length and structure, and you use a wide range of vocab to avoid repetition. These things also give the MC a relatable personality and convey their emotions in a subtle way (not to mention the fact that they can be downright hilarious). "Actions speak louder than words" is always a hallmark of good writing, and I'd say you nail that most of the time.

One thing about fanfiction is that you don't have many opportunities to describe things without relaying something your reader already knows. But this is arguably good practice; in general you don't want to stop time to give a full description of an environment unless the character is in awe and observing it all in detail themselves (even then, keep it brief).

Personally, I like your character- and plot-centric approach; truthfully, the details of the setting and what someone's wearing aren't important to the reader... unless, of course, they are.

Some might disapprove of your "abrupt" transitions, but I think it works really well for you. The way you introduce the next part usually makes it easy to pick up and avoids being repetitive, so I don't see it as a problem (quite the opposite, actually).

In short, you do a great job! Do you write/plan on writing formally at all, or is it just a hobby for you?

I feel like I struggle with “show don’t tell” a lot, which leads to the balancing act between elaborating/describing and not over-explaining/stating the obvious. I’ve written plots too vaguely before, and I always have to remind myself that plot twists readers can see coming (or at least don’t come completely out of nowhere) are actually a good thing 😅

I’ll keep your encouragement in mind Anon! And to answer your question, writing’s just a hobby for me. It’s something I want to keep absolutely stress-free, so I don’t do those “write x words a day” stuff or monthly challenges. Kudos to the writers who do though, I have mad respect for them 🫡
