I'm rewatching all the Marvel Defenders shows on Netflix and as much as I mock the MCU now, I need non-Marvel fans to understand that I was and still am a fan of "Daredevil fighting the gentrifying assshole who bought out the police force because ACAB both as a lawyer and vigilante of the community" and "Jessica Jones fighting the man who mind controlled her into doing unspeakable things and forming a community of fellow survivors and allies while dealing with PTSD in a range of both healthy and unhealthy ways" Marvel. God I love these idiots they carried so hard
#vio.txt#mcu#marvel#jessica jones#daredevil#also the two of them induced so much bi panic in me. also gender envy. jessica jones is one of the few women i get gender envy fron#the iron fist and luke cage shows were...more mid but still leagues above current marvel shows#like. yes be anti-mcu but these were masterpieces#and yes this is why i was so pissed about them putting daredevil in she hulk and trying to make him iron man 2.0#like! yes hes suave and charming but thats bc its his lawyer job!! he works in a law firm he and his friends started to serve his community#he is NOT 'i am rich and better than u' charming. he is 'i learned how to talk fancy for my degree and i have empathy' charming#and not bringing the other guys over either???? bruhhh#marvel really cancelled the best things they did on the screen#matt murdock my original red and black round glasses wearing sadboy what did they do to you#also!! can i mention that these shows had such better representation than nowadays marvel#murdock's actor doing extensive research on blind motility for the role#jessica and trish's friendship and how trish immediately believes jess about kilgrave#the whole!!! unique community feel of harlem and in luke's bar#hogarth whos both jessica's employer and foggy's boss in later seasons being a lesbian and having Real Marriage Issues#and also being a conplex and kinda shitty person#iron fist was....eh but that's why it was the worst one lmao#OH YEAH HOW COULD I FORGET MY GIRL KAREN#karen page getting a whole storyline in s1 about her dealing w ptsd and then getting fleshed out backstory and her own adventures#like ok it was kinda weird in daredevil that she dated like every guy bc she was the female lead đ#but even then foggy and matt and her figuring their shit out like adults. like they shot their shots and it didnt pan out. still besties th#disney would never allow such good writing in current times#but a boy can wish

With more than half the season done, Louis has been served two meals that he does not touch, and is due to throw another at the stolen Rembrandt.
#my beautiful princess with an eating disorder#went back to season one to confirm that the glass bowl his blood is served in doesn't have red in the design#(which would be a nice design touch to show Louis' avoidance and distaste for his hungers)#but they are indeed uncoloured#it is notable that there has been no live food for Louis this season but the supposedly ethical alternative holds no interest for him#considering hunger doesn't seem to be bothering Louis I think we could imply that he is feeding from Armand in private#it is unlikely though not entirely impossible that the season will end with Louis attacking Real Rashid#but the absence of Louis eating in front of Daniel and his lack of interest in the food in front of him is pointed#Louis de Pointe du Lac#Interview with the Vampire#Jagged Jottings

Also like ⌠I was getting exhausted just looking at Viren. So in the nicest possible way: I hope he stays dead. The man needs his peace.
#he should have died like 3 seasons ago#and then he got brought back kind of against his will#and like idk if he had a real redemption but he at least tried?#Iâm not sure where his sacrifice falls under the âone grand moment of redemptionâ trope#the dragon prince season 6#tdp season 6#I guess he finally actually served Katolis instead of his own selfish needs#the symbolism of him dying on the same balcony he should have died on in the first episode#when he like should have been protecting harrow#is not exactly lost on me

#finished my Penny Dreadful rewatch#oh man I would have loved that ending so so much if it had had three more seasons to it#it's really beautiful in its tragedy. it's a good one because it's so wrong#they make so many wrong decisions for all the right reasons. but they're still wrong#I love love love the core element of a cosmic guard dog solely destined to accompany and serve his ward. and then he can't#because he made the wrong choices out of desperate confusion. because everyone in this show is so human#cosmic level destiny being fucked up by the sheer human-ness of its agents is a wonderful thing when done tragically#and suddenly the only options left for an ending are the worst ones#that is such a great story#oh how I wish they would have had the time to tell it right#because this last season is so cheap in so many ways#what you can make out through the rubble and the bullshit is beautiful#but sadly just that#edit I am not done#this show does dog tropes so well it made me cry real tears#Ethan sitting in Vanessa's room all day just. watching where she used to be#peak mourning dog behavior#I don't even like dogs#but that trope#I'll eat it up whole#credits to Josh Hartnett though he was born for that duality#I love that man's layered performances. he has the ability to make paradoxes seem as naturally human as they are#it's everything to me

BUY ME PRESENTS | draco malfoy
summary; draco loves you, and you love him. he just needs a little push to make things official. OR, draco malfoy fighting for his life when he realises just how much everyone wants his girl.
word count; 8928
notes; this is based on christmas eve, but I'm posted a couple days later! this fic puts us half way through our slytherin boy holidays! I'm not sure how the one I expected to be the shortest became the longest one so far. like, seriously, I know I keep saying this but wtf? why can't I write a short fic?
Dinner had already been served by the time you made it to the Grand Hall, the smells of roasted meats and seasoned potatoes filling the air, your mouth watering as you navigated between the throngs of people. Your seat had been saved, of course. A spot on the bench between Draco and Daphne, and as you neared, your friends noticed, smiles rising and waves in your direction.Â
Sinking into your seat, you pressed a kiss to the cheek of the blond boy beside you, his face tipping up to receive it and lips twisting into a smile, attention moving to you as you sat.Â
âGood day?â
âBetter now that itâs over.â You smiled, a chuckle falling from him, and his hand came to rest upon your thigh, squeezing comfortingly while you helped yourself to a plate of whatever food was left. âWhat are we talking about, what did I miss?â
âNot much. Just Theo telling us all about Christmas in Italy.â Mattheo rolled his eyes, as though you all hadn't heard this exact same speech since that very first Christmas youâd become friends. Most of the group seemed to have simply tuned it out, laughing and nodding at the correct times as they whispered their own conversations.Â
A swipe of a thumb over your thigh as you finished filling your plate with food, and you shifted your attention to Draco. âSo, what are your Christmas plans, Dray?â
Shuffling a little bit closer now that your plate was full, his arm moved to lay across your shoulders instead, letting you snuggle up into his side. âOh, you know, the usual.âÂ
He smiled, and your world seemed to get a little bit brighter, his lips brushing your hairline as he left a barely-present kiss there.Â
âTypical Malfoy-family Christmas. I get to do the tour with my parents, visiting every other rich-arsehole couple they know. Christmas Eve party. The pleasure of my fatherâs annual âyouâre growing up now, son, itâs time to get serious about the worldâ over the dinner table on Christmas Day. Open some presents I donât want, on a schedule I donât like.â He sighed, clearly used to it by now, but it didnât make it sound any less awful.
âWell,â You smile, nudging him playfully with your elbow. âMaybe we could write to one another, or even get a little visit in?âÂ
The hope in your voice was evident, and Pansy gave you an encouraging smile across the table. Youâd been meaning to ask Draco this question for weeks now, and your last chance had been fast approaching. Since the summer, you and Draco had been hooking up. It was no secret among your friends, or even the students; your affections for one another were hardly contained, but it wasn't official.Â
You wanted the labels, the security, and the safety of knowing that he was yours and you were his, and nobody else could come between you. You wanted to be introduced to his parents, be his date at events, to have him be proud to call you his girl. But Draco had been hesitant, avoiding every conversation that might inch into the âso, what are we?â territory, keeping a safe distance from any kind of real commitment.Â
It wasnât enough for you anymore, not by a long shot, but trying to talk to Draco about it only ended up with him shutting it down, or skilfully diverting the conversation and you were growing tired of his games.Â
Draco only made a vague noise, neither an agreement nor disagreement, and looked away from you as he picked up his drink to take a sip. âI donât know⌠maybe. I can get pretty busy over the holidays, Iâd hate to let you down.â
Another skill of his, making it seem like cancelling or delaying or not doing something at all was your idea. He was clearly hoping youâd brush it off, and tell him not to worry about it, but instead, you kept quiet. Not giving him the satisfaction of any easy win, this time.Â
Pansy caught your eye across the table, shaking her head disapprovingly, and shooting a glare at an oblivious Draco. She had been your confidant these last few months, every update and development in your situationship, sheâd been informed of. Every decision, sheâd been a part of. She was practically as invested as you were, at this point, and she certainly did not approve of his nonchalant behaviour either.Â
âSpeaking of parties,â Mattheo cut Theo off, clearly having had enough of the annual rehashing of âthat one Christmas when Theo was eightâ for today, and changing the subject, âWhoâs got their dates sorted for the Malfoy Christmas Eve Ball, and whoâs daring to go solo and have Narcissa set them up like a matchmaker all night long?â
Chuckles rang out among the group, and Pansy smiled, leaning into Blaiseâs side with a love-struck grin. âI think weâre safe this year.â
âIâm going solo, but, I did tell Aunty Cissa that I have my eye on a girl in one of my classes, and Iâm seeing how it plays out. So, sheâs not setting me up anytime soon, since she believes Iâm already onto someone.â Enzo smirked, and Blaise congratulated him for his clever tactics.Â
You smirked through your mouthful of food, listening to Mattheo explain his complex excuse, to Reggie mournfully spill the story of how heâs already been set up by his parents witha âpotential bride to meetâ, and how he hopes she doesnât show up. You laugh with the others as Tom simply raises an eyebrow, knowing that even Narcissa doesnât attempt to set him up anymore, lest he scare away any more of her friendsâ daughters. Theo, ever the player he is, is looking forward to dancing with every single lady he can find, and taking his pick at the end of the night.
âI suppose nobody needs to ask Draco who his date will be.â Mattheo grins, wiggling his brows at the pair of you as you smile, leaning a little further into the man at your side.Â
âHey, who knows?â He chortles, and your eyes narrow a little, âIâve had plenty of offers. I havenât made up my mind yet.â
âOooh.â Enzoâs eyes went wide, the other boys joining in, and Pansy fixed him with a glare. Daphne leaned around you with her jaw dropped at his statement, and you sat up from his embrace, lips pressed flat and a brow raised.Â
The boys snickered, âheâs in shitâ and âsomeoneâs in the doghouseâ, but he lived for the spotlight, a drama queen at heart, and he smirked down at you.Â
âOh, câmon. Donât look at me like that, babe.â The playful nickname was one he only ever used when joking around. When he was sincere, he was much more romantic; darling, sweetheart, beautiful. âWhat am I supposed to say? âHi mum, hello father, meet the girl Iâm skipping class to shag! Thanks for paying my tuition!â, I donât think so.â
The boys all laughed, Daphne scoffed in sync with her sister behind you, and Pansy looked like sheâd lunge across the table at any moment, if it wasnât for her chastising Blaise for laughing, instead. âYou and Draco can share that couch youâll both be sleeping on tonightâ, sheâd said. âSee how funny you think it is thenâ.
The words stung as he spoke them, dismantling your relationship down to the bare minimum; to sex and physical connection and nothing else. Like the nights spent talking until the sun came up were nothing, the times youâd held him while he cried, or washed him in the bath when he was so exhausted he could barely keep his eyes open. Like he didnât rub your stomach for hours every month when you got cramps, or had a stash of your favourite snacks in his bedside table for whenever you came over.Â
You knew that Draco Malfoy lived you, just as much as you loved him. It was evident in everything he did, every kiss and every word. But, he needed a little push.
âI suppose youâre right,â You sigh lightly, giggling along with the laughing boys around the table. âIâm not so sure Lucius wouldn't burst a blood vessel then and there.â
âExactly.â Draco hummed, and you glanced back to Pansy. She was shocked, only for a second, before taking in the subtle signs of mischief on your face. Her own smirk stretched out in return, and her gaze flickered once to Draco, before back to you.Â
A new game was afoot, and Draco wasnât going to stand a chance.
Slipping your coat from your shoulders, the annual Malfoy Christmas Eve Ball was well underway. Your parents had disappeared into the crowds before youâd even stepped out of the carriage, uncaring of where you were as long as you werenât causing trouble. They were here to mingle with the other importants, and you were just here to learn the ropes of proper socialising.
The garment was taken from you, your small bag clutched in hand as a ticket was given to you for it, and you brushed down the front of your dress delicately. Pearls moved under your touch, beading along the bodice flat and perfected, and you felt your confidence rise as you looked at yourself once more in the reflection of a dark window. Adjusting the small lace gloves on each hand, you took a step towards the dining room.Â
Elegant music was playing from a live band up on a stage, the room was decorated this year to look like a winter escape. Pale and frosty, like a palace of ice, twinkling lights and glittering decor, crisp white tablecloths and ice sculptures. A layer of goosebumps travelled along your skin at the sight of it all, despite the warming charms that took place for the guests.Â
Scanning the room, you quickly found your table. The designated kids table, despite you all being legal adults and far beyond such status. Youâd all be the babies of the ball until the new generation emerged, no doubt. Moving through the bodies and crowds of people politely, Theo was the first to glance up and spot you, his mouth falling open, and a rush of confidence took over as he raised two fingers to his lips and whistled.Â
The sound caught the attention of the othersâ chatter fading to quiet as they all turned to look for the object of his cat-calling, Enzoâs eyes widened, Pansy cheered loudly, and even Mattheo looked momentarily speechless. Youâd had the same reaction when youâd seen yourself in the dress too, your stylist had truly outdone herself for this one.Â
You looked flawless, and you looked expensive, and utterly elegant. Doing a little spin as you approached, a smile broke free on your lips as you stopped before the chair with your name card before it.Â
âMerlin, babe,â Pansy started, drawing your attention straight her her, âYouâve got every eye on you tonight. If I was single, Iâd be all over you.âÂ
She winked when you laughed, and Blaise rolled his eyes but smiled, leaning in to kiss her cheek affectionately.Â
âPretty necklace,â She commented, and your fingers rose to the pretty string of pearls and diamonds that you had.Â
âIt was a gift,â You simply hummed, tugging at your gloves. Glancing at the others, you gave each a polite smile, eyes lingering on Draco as he stared. In any other style, this dress would be scandalous for an event like this. A low neckline, spaghetti straps, no sleeves. Tight and fitted to every curve of your body, and yet the classic designs and vintage nature elevated it to the kind of class Audrey Hepburn would be proud of.Â
He looked just as good, a dark suit, a fresh white shirt, a champagne-coloured tie that made the colour of his eyes and his hair stand out and your mouth dried out a little. Silver rings adorned his fingers, the Malfoy signet standing out, clenched so tightly around his whiskey glass that his knuckles were almost white.Â
Youâd worn soft, golden makeup effects today, a dusting of glitter along your cheekbones and eyelids, a shade of pink on your cheeks and lips that you knew was his weakness.Â
âSomeone really wanted your attention with that, huh?â Your best friend teased, and your eyes snapped away from Draco, back to her.Â
âI suppose so,â You muse, hand coming up to touch one of the beads on your ear, âSince they also got me this lovely pair of matching earrings.â
Pansy made a dramatic show of admiring them, and Blaise gave a funny look, glancing at the jewellery, and then back at Draco, who was frowning. Before you could reach for your chair after placing your clutch down, Enzo was shooting to his feet from beside you, tugging out the chair for you.Â
Draco scoffed as you gave him a thank you, settling into your seat, and he glared at the man beside you. Enzo didnât flinch, however, smirking at Draco as he spoke;
âWhat? Itâs called being a gentleman, cousin.â
Crossing your leg delicately, youâd hardly even removed your gloves, before a tray was coming down by your side, and a young waiter with a dazzling smile was looking right at you.Â
âChampagne, maâam?â Not a planned pawn in your game, but a welcome addition, you smiled sweetly in return.Â
âOh, Iâd love some. Thank you.â Taking the single glass by the stem, you lifted it from the tray and the manâs smile stretched wider as you sipped the bubbly, holding his eye.Â
âOf course, miss. If you need anything, anything at all, Iâll be at the bar, happy to serve.â His flirting was heavy enough that normally youâd want to roll your eyes, but tonight, you suppressed that urge, playing into it as you bat your lashes.Â
âIâll be sure to keep that in mind. Thank you.â
He took the dismissal, staring appreciatively as he walked away, another look over his shoulder to you as you watched him go.Â
âStop eye-fucking the help.â Draco snapped, and your focus moved to him slowly, just to find his icy glare on you. He didnât scare you, though, all that mean bravado, but you knew what was underneath.Â
âI was doing no such thing.â You tut, placing down your drink. âDonât be jealous, Dray. You look even better in that suit. If you want compliments, just ask. No need to be mean.â
He seemed rather placated by this, his ego settling down, even if the others did laugh at him.
The conversation seemed to continue around you as you settled in, avoiding Dracoâs heated stare and sipping at your champagne. The rush of warming alcohol through your veins settled every dancing nerve, and gave you the calm confidence to do what you had planned. Sitting forwards, just enough, you angled your body so that Draco might have the perfect view over your cleavage as you feigned interest in the chatter around you.Â
He took the bait, his gaze falling right where you wanted it, the gems of your necklace dangling just over the swell of your breasts, and he licked his lower lip, pulling it between his teeth.
Raising your hands and catching the swinging gem, you toyed with it carefully, letting it run over your fingers. Time melted away as Dracoâs gaze flicked between your nimble touch, your lips, and your chest, shuffling in his seat every so often, and gulping at the bubbly in his glass.Â
He was on his third refill by the time food started to be taken around, and you took pity on him momentarily, sitting back in your chair and angling away from him, ready to receive your first course.Â
As the starters came around, you turned to thank your waiter, surprised to see it was the same man from the bar who had brought you your champagne. Youâd given him little thought since heâd walked away, and youâd never spotted him again, but perhaps that was exactly why he was delivering your food now, as he beamed at you and set down the plate.Â
Men did love a little attention, after all.Â
Reaching for the bottle of champagne cooling in the centre of the table, the waiter never looked away from you as he refilled your glass without being asked. Draco finally seemed to notice as he finished adjusting his napkin, gaze narrowing on the man serving you. âYouâve got to be kidding meâŚâ He muttered.
You pretended to take no notice, smiling at the man and waving your fingers flirtily as he walked away.
âIâm going to get another drink at the bar,â He announced, leaving without his glass and without asking if anyone else wanted one. You knew where he was truly going, if the lock of his jaw and the stamp in his step were any indication. You doubted youâd be seeing that waiter again.
As you poked at your food, Pansy excused herself too, only a few bites into her meal before she disappeared with a wicked grin and no explanation to anyone. Enzo just chuckled beside you, glancing around the room like he was watching all the cogs of a machine in motion, before turning his gaze on you. âYou do look lovely tonight, do you know that?â
âOf course I do. I spent days on end trying on dress after dress to find this.â You sighed, admiring the gorgeous piece of art on your body as you set your cutlery down.Â
âAnd is it serving the purpose you need it to?â He teased, voice knowing, and you nodded. Flicking your gaze over the patrons and guests in the room, you searched for Draco, finding him talking politely to one of his motherâs friends at the bar.Â
âIt is, I think.â
âLetâs hope it stays that way.â He whispered, your focus still on the man who truly held your heart, who was making his polite excuse and walking way, back towards you all. His gaze locked on yours, only for a second, before Pansy was calling your name and drawing your focus elsewhere.Â
When you looked up to her, she was grinning, a man by her side. âThis is Elliot, heâs been wanting to meet you for some time. I promised him Iâd introduce you both tonight.â
You offered the best smile you could as his cheeks reddened, and Pansy merely patted him on the shoulder, slinking away as you offered your hand to him. âLovely to meet you, Elliot.â
âYou too. As embarrassing as that introduction was, itâs true. I have wanted to meet you for some time.â He had a kind smile and pretty eyes, and he seemed far too nice to be dragged into your game tonight, but he seemed almost like a willing participant, and you werenât one to look a gift horse in the mouth. As Draco took his seat, Elliot continued, âPansy has told me so much about you. You know, if youâre free one day before you go back to that fancy boarding school of yours, Iâd love to take you out.â
âYeah? What have you got in mind?â You smile, twisting a little more to face him, and your encouragement only brightens his expression as Dracoâs darkens in your peripheral.
âA night in London, perhaps. We could get dinner, and see the opera?â
âShe doesnât like the opera.â Draco sneered, openly staring at Elliot with enough contempt to scare away lesser men. Elliot tugged at his collar, glancing at Draco, and then back to you as you tried to hide your shock at his behaviour.
âThe theatre, then?â
Draco looked ready to snap again, and before he could, you nodded, sparing your unwilling partner. âThat sounds wonderful, Iâll see what my schedule says. Iâll get in touch with you through Pansy if I can find the time, is that okay?â
âPerfect.â He smiled, sneaking another wary glance at Draco who was not backing down from glaring at him unflinchingly, but Elliot shook it off, bravely. âIt was a pleasure to meet you, truly.â
âAnd you, Elliot.â
Soon after he left, the plates were being cleared. You tried not to smirk as a different waiter, and one who very pointedly did not so much as even catch your gaze, cleared your dishes away at record speed.Â
You knew that Draco had something, everything, to do with that. He was jealous by nature, a spoilt single child who did not like to share his favourite toys, and that is exactly what you were betting on tonight.
You stood, taking a lap around the room with Pansy to settle your food before the next course, and to get another drink. She took the opportunity to fill you in on how her first Christmas event with Blaiseâs family had gone, and when you returned, you made sure to surreptitiously place yourself behind Dracoâs chair.Â
You placed a hand on his shoulder, a friendly gesture, squeezing and rubbing enough that your thumb swept over his collar and across his neck. His pulse jumped under your touch, and he tipped his head closer, into your touch.Â
As he did so, your heart leapt in your chest. To others, it might look like a friendly gesture but to you, it meant so much more. You were tempted to cave then and there, to live with this being enough, to settle, but you couldn't. You didnât want this to be it, you wanted to follow this by leaning down to kiss him, to have him smile against your lips in public the way he did when you were alone.Â
To arrive at these events together, arms linked, and to stumble out tiredly together too. To sit by him, his hand on your thigh, to rest your head on his shoulder, to kiss him on the dance floor. The thought was enough to push you through.Â
He twisted his head, to kiss your hand like he often did when you did this. Carefully, you slipped your hand away just in time, knuckles brushing across the nape of his neck as you stepped away, and back to your seat.Â
His sights moved to you, but like a saving grace, the servers began to appear with more dishes, and dinner soon distracted you all. A delicious serving of salmon and potatoes, and the hall fell quiet enough for you to hear the beautiful music playing when chatter fell low.Â
Low conversation, drinks refilled, and that perfect mood set across the room, as people took to the tables and quieted down. Your favourite part of the night, usually. Good food, your friends, and a chance to catch up without the usual weight of it all sitting on you. Regulus was talking, telling the rare story that had him caught up in a long conversation where he usually just observed quietly, but your attention was fixed on your lover.Â
Until, Theo spoke up.Â
âOh, merda,â He muttered across Reggieâsâ story, his gaze cutting to you alarmingly quickly. âI forgot to tell you.â
âTell me what?â Your heart skipped a beat, a flash of panic.
âMy cousin flew in last minute for the party, and he wants to speak to you.â Theoâs words soothed your panic, and you offered him a flat look for the dramatic way heâd put it. Taking a sip from your glass, you raised a brow.
âWhen?â
âNow.â He confirmed, sights lifting to sit just behind you, and before you could even turn, a chair was being pulled up beside your own from another table. Turning your head to the owner, a smile burst across your face at the man sitting before you.Â
âDario!â Your arms were around his neck before you could stop yourself, and he was chuckling as he bundled you into an equally enthusiastic hug. He chuckled lightly, pulling back only far enough to press a friendly kiss to your cheek, and you cupped his face as you parted from him. âYouâre growing a beard!â
âMy mother hates it.â He chuckled, rubbing a hand over it. As you twisted a little more towards him, he reached down, practically manhandling you as he reached for the edge of your seat by your legs, tugging it sideways to face him. You squealed as the chair jolted, screeching on the floor, tugging you closer as he leaned in. âSei incantevole.â
âAre you charming me in Italian?â You smirk, a boyish smile on his face as he lounged back in his seat. âWhat are you doing here, anyway? Theo said none of you were flying in this year! I thought you couldn't make it.â
âI couldn't,â He sighed, shrugging, âBut, then I heard that you would be here, without a date, and I knew I just had to make it. So, here I am, la mia bella donna. You think a short flight from Italy would stop me rushing over here to you?â
Your giggle was against your control. Even if he was more like family than a romantic interest, the way his accent twisted around coyly spoken words, was enough to bring a blush to even the most unreceptive womanâs face. âCut it out, you flirt.â
âYouâll save me a dance later, right?â
âWeâll see.â He rose his brow, and you lifted your glass, taking a sip of bubbly to hide your smile, leaving him hanging. âDepends on how much more of your cheesy flirting I can endure.â
âYou mean my wonderful Italian charm?â He teased, pinching one of your cheeks, and deepening the flush he had already created. âDonât think I donât see the way I make you blush.
You could only scoff, mouth dry as you tried to think of a retort, and you didnât miss Theo muttering in Italian behind you, curse words youâd picked up on tumbling from his mouth.Â
âPerhaps this can convince you,â Dario reaches for his inner pocket, producing a small, slim box. An excited squeak breaks from you as he hands it over, your fingers brushing the elegant leather, an Italian name embossed across the front. âOpen it later, alright?â
You could only nod, admiring it happily, before slipping the box safely inside of your clutch. He took your hand, kissing your knuckles as he stood. A final wink as he offered you hid charming goodbyes, and a farewell to the rest of the table, before returning his borrowed chair to where he had taken it from.Â
You watched as your friend left, disappearing into the crowd, no doubt to mingle and socialise as he had always been so good at, before you swung back around in your chair.Â
âHe taught you everything you know, huh, Nott?â
Theo only shrugged, a cheeky grin on his face. âWhat can I say, tesoro? We Nott men just have charm. Weâll woo your panties right off.â He winked, the cockiness not lasting long as Draco swung at him, a fist landing roughly on his arm as the Malfoy heir scowled, glaring at his best friend.Â
âCut it out.â He growled the words through gritted teeth, and your hand shot up, rubbing at your lip to hide your grin as Draco made no effort to hide his own emotions. Theo only laughed, rubbing at the patch on his arm heâd taken the hit.
Dessert was served, a beautiful display of ice cream and winter berries that almost looked too good to eat. The key word being almost. You hadn't been able to resist, however, and the first small groan youâd let out as the sugar hit your tongue had Dracoâs gaze snapping straight to you. I did not leave, once, after.Â
Instead, he watched, through a dark gaze, every curl of your lips around the spoon, every swipe of your tongue to catch the juice of burst berries. If youâd put on a little extra show, just for him, nobody else had to know.Â
It was like he was staring right into your soul, so intense, even after the meal was long since finished. Finally, you indulged him once again, turning to look at him and raising a brow. âYes, Draco?â
âYou look beautiful tonight, I am simply admiring.â He let his gaze move across you slowly, making his admiration apparent, and his gaze lingered a fraction of a second longer on your neck. He stared at you with open adoration, the kind of look that told you exactly how he felt, even if he was fighting it, but he was close to breaking. He was close to losing this game he didnât know he was playing. Then, his gaze flickered over your shoulder, sweet observation morphing. His brows drew together, his open hand slamming down on the table hard enough to make the glass rattle. âOh, fucking hellâŚâ
Mattheo erupted with sudden laughter, loud and brash, and there was a tap on your shoulder before you could even ask him what had him in such hysterics. A young man you did not know, perhaps a few years younger than you, and glanced around the table to see which of your friends had put this one together. Each seemed to have caught on in their own time, and had a hand in adding to the fun, to watch Draco suffer more, but none of them were laying any claim to this one.Â
âIâve been watching you all evening, and you are beautiful.â He smiled, stuttering over his words slightly, and Draco made no shy show of his disdain, rolling his eyes and making a disapproving sound. âI was wondering if you might grant me the pleasure of a dance?â
âShe would dance with you,â Enzo interrupted, before you could speak at all, leaning forward toward the edge of your chair from his own, and you could have kissed him in gratitude for saving you. âBut, she promised me her first dance. Isnât that right, love? And I think now is the perfect time. Letâs go.â
Offering you his hand, you took it, letting him sweep you away without a secondâs delay, navigating you both to the dance floor and twirling you expertly into his arms. One hand clasped your own, the other sitting at a respectable place on your waist, your own on his shoulder, and he fell into the well-rehearsed steps of a classical ballroom dance heâd been doing since he could walk.Â
You let out a shaky sigh, relief flooding your veins as you looked back to your seat, noticing that the boy had taken Enzoâs rejection well and disappeared, not hanging around and waiting for your return.Â
âYouâre killing him slowly, like a predator playing with its prey,â Enzo smirked, neither of you needing to clarify who you were talking about, as he brought up his cousin.Â
âI donât know what youâre talking about.â
âReally?â He chuckled, spinning you out before pulling you back in, sharp actions that made you dizzy with their accuracy, and you grinned as he brought you tumbling right back into his arms, perfectly. If heâd been trying to win you over, his dancing alone wouldâve had you swooning. âYou just show up to a fancy event like this, dripping in diamonds and pearls and looking like a million bucks, supposedly single. You mean to tell me you didnât know that all these rich London boys wouldn't descend on you like vultures?â
âNot my fault Iâm single and hot, Enz.â
He just laughed, dipping you a little. âWe do struggle, donât we.â You wove between people, a happy silence falling between you both once again as he guided you over the floor, back and forth, âAre you, though? Single, I mean.â
âThat is up to your cousin.â
âTouchĂŠ.â
You continued to move, until your feet were sore from all the twirling, clinging to Enzo in fits of giggles as he spun and twirled and dipped you more, hands on your waist as he lifted you through the air, making a show of his dancing.Â
He may have seemed altruistic in his gestures, sweeping in to save you and Draco from your dance with the boy, but he was using you too. Enzo was taking every opportunity to show off his moves to every lady around the room watching, a flirty smile on his face between conversations and he glanced around, and you wouldn't be surprised if he received more offers than Theo or Dario by the end of the night.Â
As the third song came to an end, and the music fell for just a second, you panted slightly, arm around his neck now, looking up at him with flushed cheeks and a bright smile. âCan we take a break?â
âTired, already? You only gave me three so far.â He smirked at the way your jaw dropped, your face going hot and you knew your cheeks were red. You untangled yourself from his body, barely making it a step away from his laughter before he wrapped an arm around your waist, tugging you into his side. âOh, câmon. I thought the aim was to flirt and make him mad?â
âHeâs not even here to listen!â
âIâm practising,â Enzo murmured, steering you towards the bar, and leaning on the wood as he flagged down the bartender. You were quickly served, by a woman who fawned over Enzo as she passed by, and you had to snap your fingers in front of his face to snap his gaze away from her retreating form. âSo, how long are you going to make himââ
A tap on Enzoâs shoulder cut him off, and he turned to look, straightening up instantly from his slumped position. As soon as he moved so you could see, your relaxation melted away too, as you found yourself face to face with Narcissa and Lucius Malfoy.Â
âLorenzo, Iâve hardly had a chance to talk to you all evening. I want to ask you about your schoolwork.â The impressively formal and deep voice of Lucius Malfoy settled over your skin like fresh snow, cold but smooth, and you shuddered.Â
Narcissa only chuckled lightly at her husbandâs words, her eyes on you. âYouâve been busy, though. Who is your lovely lady?â
âUncle Lucius, Aunt Cissa. This is my friend, (Y/n).â
It wasnât exactly the circumstances youâd wanted to meet them under, but you smiled nonetheless, nerves running wild as you offered your hand to them both, shaking politely just as your parents had taught you.Â
âAh, (Y/n). Yes. I make a point of knowing all of Dracoâs school friends, but Iâm in business with your father, arenât I?â Something like a small kernel of sweetness was buried in that statement, his interest in his sonâs life, even if he tried to hide it behind formalities, but it wasnât your place to comment.Â
âYes, sir. That is correct.â
âTheyâre very proud of your schoolwork. They were telling me about your latest project. You synthesised a new potion to grow murkweed faster, is that true?â
You were surprised he knew so much, your small project submitted for Herbology was the last thing youâd expected Lucius Malfoy to know of, or take an interest in, and your mouth felt like sandpaper as you tried to form words. âYes. Yes, sir. Thatâs right.â
âInteresting.â That calculating gaze scanned over you, analysing you from head to toe, like he could see right through you with a single glance. âThat is impressive, for someone of your age. Iâd be open to learning more. Are you considering making a future out of your alchemy talents? I have connections that I could contact for you.âÂ
You were speechless, your stomach going wild with butterflies born of both excitement and anxiety. He smirked, a look that would set you on edge if you werenât sure deep down that this was in your interests, not against them.Â
âPerhaps we can discuss it more soon, when we next see you. With Enzo?â
Enzoâs arm around your waist shifted, a reassuring weight that you were sure had been your only grounding presence for this surreal conversation. He patted your hip encouragingly. âOh, no, we arenâtâŚâÂ
Motioning between you both, Luciusâ brows furrowed, and Narcissa tried to hide her sigh.
âSorry to disappoint you, Aunt Cissa. (Y/n) isnât mine, though it is wonderful that you approve.â Before either could question him, or expand on their confusion, Enzo gave your waist a final rub, before removing his touch from you entirely, and stepping towards his family. âShall we go and discuss schoolwork then, Uncle? You have questions, and I have answers. I hope the ones you want.â
âIt was a pleasure to meet you, Miss (Y/l/n).â Lucius politely offered you his hand again, shaking it firmly, and that was about as friendly a dismissal as youâd ever get from him, youâd heard. This was only supported by the surprised look on Narcissaâs face, and the beam Enz gave you as he guided his uncle away.Â
âI hope to see you again soon, (Y/n). You look wonderful this evening, thank you for coming.â Narcissa murmured, before following her husband and nephew, glancing back at you only once over her shoulder. She knew. The woman was far more cunning than she let on, the true embodiment of a sneaky Slytherin, observing quietly and taking everything in. Her eyes glinted. She knew you knew she knew, too.
Your heart was pounding, cheeks warm as you lifted your fingers to them cautiously. The disappointed waitress placed down two drinks before you, Enzo long gone without his, but you smiled at her with appreciation, fingers shaking a little as you lifted the glass to your lips to take a sip.Â
Youâd spoken to Dracoâs parents.Â
Theyâd liked you. Lucius had offered to put you onto the career path, and Narcissa had complimented your dress. A soft laugh of disbelief slipped free, your eyes sliding closed for just a second as you revelled in the moment.Â
It hasnât been what youâd set out for tonight, but it was far more than what youâd hoped for. Opening your eyes again, to head back to the table and find Draco, you were met by the sight of a stranger leaning before you on the bar, grinning down at you in amusement. âHello.â
âHi.â You gave a terse smile, and a single nod. âIf youâll excuse meââ
âI didnât even get to ask you to dance yet. Saw you out on the floor with the Berkshire boy, earlier, and I thoughtââ
âIâm dancing with her next, mate. Piss off.âÂ
Draco rarely sounded that mad, a chill went down your spine as you felt an arm slide around your waist, tugging you back into his chest. âDrayâŚâ
The stranger only scoffed, glaring at Draco as he wandered away, and your hand reached for his forearm on your body. He snatched it away too soon, however, tugging on your hip to turn you around. His jaw was clenched tight, eyes more frozen than the coldest glacier. âDance with me.â
Not a request, and he didnât wait for an answer, before plucking your drink from your hand and slamming it down onto the bar, guiding you back to the swaying bodies. Standing before you, you offered him your hand, your hand sitting lightly on his shoulder. He didnât take the respectable route, instead, his arm wrapped tight around your waist, sweeping you close to his body, and beginning to move you both in simple steps.Â
It was several minutes before he relaxed, your arm sliding further around his neck in a more intimate hold, bringing the two of you much closer, swaying slowly. The tension in his body gave way with every step, and with a resigned sigh, he finally spoke, âYou met my parents.â
âI did. They were lovely. Very curious about Enzo and Iâs relationship.â
His hand clenched on your waist, and you tipped your head at him as his piercing gaze drilled into you. One more moveâŚ
âOh, donât be so mad, Dray. Weâre only shagging, after all. Youâll find a new girl if I get swept away by someone else.â
His eyes narrowed, jaw clenching, and a fire burned in those silver eyes now, melting the ice away with rage. Checkmate.
âYou win, alright? Iâm not playing this stupid game any longer.â He took a deep breath, and another, fingers twitching on your back as jealousy bubbled under the surface. âFor fucks sake, how many pieces of jewellery from other guys are you wearing? Who bought you those earrings, that necklace? I should be the only one buying you gifts. I should be the one spoiling you. You want the Malfoy family ring? Iâll go yank it off my motherâs engagement ring from her finger right now, just take all this off.â
He studied you for a second, confusion growing at the smirk that grew on your lips. Victory was yours, and you leaned in, pressing a delicate kiss to his cheek. Letting the hand from his neck smooth down his chest, his gaze stayed locked on the jewels around your neck, glaring angrily. âNo.â
âNo?â
âNo. Itâs pretty. Iâm going to keep wearing it all, let it remind you what you have. Next time you piss me off, forget a date, or use the last of my shampoo, Iâm going to put it all back on so you can remember how many guys would jump at the chance.â His nostrils flared, but he stayed silent, wisely knowing when to keep his mouth shut. âI donât want your family ring, Malfoy. Not yet. I just want a proper title, and the respect that comes with it. Iâm not your booty call, or your side piece. You donât want to play games anymore? Then donât.â
âYou already won.â He whispers, his head dropping down to let his forehead rest on your own. âYou know how much you mean to me.â
âYes, I do. But I want the whole world to know it, too, Dray.â
He didnât respond verbally. Instead, he twisted his head, enough to press his mouth to your own, silencing any more arguments between you both as he kissed you. His lips claimed yours, a tender and loving kiss, showing everyone just how much you meant to him. There was no mistaking the emotions within it, not as his arms wrapped around your body, holding you to him as the pretence of dancing was given up, your hand on the back of his head, fingers in his hair, meeting every push and pull.
When he pulled away, your smile took over, bashful now under his openly adoring gaze, and he stole several more pecks from your lips. A happy sound escaped you as he tugged you in, tucking his face into your neck, and swaying you both to the music.Â
âHave I told you how beautiful you look tonight?â
âYou have, but Iâd be open to hearing it again.â Your hand smoothed over his hair, and he chuckled against your skin, leaving a kiss on the crook of your neck before raising to meet your eye.Â
âYou are breathtaking, darling. Iâm in awe. This colour is my favourite, you know.â
âWhy do you think I wore it?â
His fingers trailed down your spine, eyes sparkling even more at that revelation. âHow about we get out of here? Weâll make our goodbyes to my parents, and head out.â
âOur goodbyes?â You repeated as he took your hand, lacing your fingers together.Â
âYes. From their son and his girlfriend. I think you deserve a proper introduction, after all.â
Tugging you across the floor, he gave you no time to prepare, and certainly, none to disagree, as you smoothed your hair and attempted to control the blush heâd brought to your cheeks. Through the crowds he wove, until he was pulling to a stop just shy of his parents, and Enzo looked as though he could have cried with relief when Luciusâ intense focus was taken away from him. The boy quickly slipped away as both of Dracoâs parents turned to face you.Â
âMiss (Y/l/n), when we said we hoped to see you again soon, I didnât realise youâd take it quite this literally.â He murmured, voice as low and calm as always, and your lips parted, a different kind of heat flooding your features.Â
âOh, behave now, Lucius,â Narcissa grinned, her gaze dropping to your clasped hands, before she reached up to her sonâs face, pinching his cheek with a smile. âDraco, darling, Iâve hardly seen you all evening.â
âWell, Iâm sorry to disappoint you Mother, but weâll be leaving early.â She only gave him a knowing look, ignoring Luciusâ displeased huff, as if she wasnât surprised at all.Â
ââWeâ?â
âMy girlfriend and I.â He said, proud and strong, before tugging you forward a little more to stand in front of him. His hand left your own, circling your waist instead, and she offered him a smile at the news.Â
âI see.â She smiled, patting her sonâs cheek affectionately, before turning that knowing gaze on you. âNow Lorenzoâs evasiveness whenever I asked him about you makes sense.â
âYou asked about me?â Your words were a rushed squeak, which only seemed to amuse Narcissa more.Â
âOf course, dear. I wanted to know more about you. Iâd ask you to sit and chat with me for a spell, but I believe my son might combust if I did.â
âMother!â He gasped, and Lucius only tutted.Â
âDraco.â His father growled softly, shaking his head, and the red on his sonâs cheeks only grew.
âYou both may go, for now. But I hope youâll visit me soon, and we might talk?â
âYou mean⌠just us?â Your words tapered off to a near whisper, and Lucius smirked to himself as Draco rolled his eyes.Â
âYes, dear. Weâll have tea.â
You could only nod, bidding your final farewells to them both in a state of awe, before Draco was hurrying you along. Tight hands gripping your waist, lips on your neck as he loved you through the crowds, swiping up your bag and giving you barely a moment to say goodbye to your friends before sweeping you away again. It was only due to the snow falling outside, you were sure, that he allowed you to stop long enough to get your coats.Â
Helping you, he lifted the garment onto you from behind, kissing your cheek as he reached around your body to fasten it. His elegant coat was already on, and leather gloves were on his hands as he offered you one. Lacing your fingers through his own, he smiled, tugging you out into the freezing night, and ushering you around the side of the Manor, away from the stream of cars lined up for guests as they left.Â
âWhere are we going, Dray?âÂ
âTo one of the gardens near the path.â He never turned back, leading you carefully around patches of ice and slippery snow as you moved, the light from the house fading. It was almost pitch black, before he mumbled a small spell, and the garden lights glowed to light, glittering on the fresh blanket of ice.Â
Sitting on the grass was an old-fashioned sleigh, enchanted to keep dry, even in the snow, and two reindeer sat happily in the snow snuffling at the grass and scattered food.Â
The landscape stretched out far before you both, trees and grass and walls all covered in snow like something from a Christmas card, and the sigh that left your lips clouded in the air before your face.Â
âOh, DracoâŚâ Taking a few steps closer, snow-tipped over the tops of your heels as you stepped off the pathway onto the grass, chilling your feet for only a second, before Draco was following. Scooping you up into his arms, you kicked the ice from your feet with a giggle, your arms looping around his neck. âWhatâs all this?â
âThis is your Christmas present. I didnât realise that was the kind of ice you wanted instead.â He muttered, eyes flicking down to your neck, as he carried you carefully through the snow and towards the ornate sleigh. As you leaned in to kiss his cheek, he smiled shyly, avoiding your gaze as he became embarrassed, âI wanted to do something romantic for you. We can take the sleigh back to the town, get a cab, and take the jet anywhere you want to go. Pansy already packed a bag for you.â
He placed you down on the edge of the sleigh, letting you shuffle across onto the warmed leather. With another kiss to your lips, he scoffed at your smile.Â
âMerry Christmas, my wicked little girlfriend.â
âI canât believe you arranged all this.â You were practically bouncing in your seat, watching as Draco nervously tugged on the reins, prompting the lazy animals to stand back up, before settling into the sleigh himself. Like they knew just what to do, they took off in a slow trot, tugging the pair of you along through the snow.Â
âMaybe if youâd have waited, instead of making me fight for my life tonight, youâd have been surprised.â
His arm was splayed along the back of the seat, and you snuggled in a little closer to him. Curling his arm around you, he pressed a kiss to your forehead, shaking his head and burying his nose in your hair. âIf I didnât make you fight for me, Dray, youâd probably have introduced me to your mother as your study partner. I gave you a little push, thatâs all.â
âIs that so?â He muttered, guiding your face up so he could peck your lips. âWho do you think helped me arrange all of this for my âlovely lady friendâ, hm? Iâve been writing to my mother about having an interest in someone for months now. You underestimate me.â
âYou never gave me any other indication!âÂ
âOh, please. You walk me like a damn dog, you knew how I felt.â His mouth closed over your own, stealing a kiss, and you couldn't help but smile into it. âI think tonight just proves it.â
The sleigh trotted on as Draco kissed you in the back, beyond thought and reason, your hands tucked into his coat for warmth as he kept you cuddled in close to his side.Â
Minutes melted away, the two of you lost in your own world as you jostled and trotted through the fields, back toward the town. Whatever he had planned, it had been in motion for days, and the thought only made you fall a little more in love with him. Perhaps you had underestimated him, but none of it mattered now, not when he was kissing you like you were his only way to breathe, and you had him in your arms, properly, at last.
âSo, Pansy knew about your little plan?â
âYes. I told her days ago.âÂ
âHmâŚâ You loved her, and it was perhaps her knowledge of Dracoâs actions that made this all the funnier. âSo, she knew about your plan, and mine. And still, she made sure to introduce guys to me all night. She played us both just for her own amusement.â
As you thought of her, your fingers lifted to your neck, sitting on the delicate jewellery there, and Draco huffed. Looping his finger underneath it, he tugged lightly. âCan you take this off now, please?â
âWhy would I do that?â His pout deepened, glaring at the offending item, and you gave in with an airy laugh. âPansy, Daph and Tori picked it out personally.â
âWhat?â His head snapped up, pout gone as his jaw dropped, and he was not laughing like you were. âYou let me believe another guy decked you out in diamonds all night! What about the matching earrings?â
âBlaise.â
âThe bracelet?â
âTheo and the Notts.âÂ
At that mention, his eyes narrowed again, searching for your clutch and finding it resting in your lap. âBut Theoâs cousin Mario gave you a separate gift.â
âDario.â You corrected, and he mimicked it childishly, scoffing afterwards. âWell, that part was real. He truly was flirting, and I have no idea what it is, I havenât opened it yet.â
âGive it to me.â He reached for your bag, a second too slow as you swiped it away from him with a gasp. He didnât give up, still trying to snatch it as he leaned over you, pressing you back into the seat through fits of laughter, the two of you fighting over the bag until it was pressed to your chest, your eyes wide as you stared up at him, shaking your head. âGive it to me! Iâm chucking it, hand it over!â
âNo, itâs mine!â He slumped back into his seat, panting for breath and smoothing his hair back down. He was pointedly staring away in the opposite direction, and when you leaned in closer with a chuckle, he leaned away. Grabbing his shoulder, you planted yourself firmly in his lap, kissing the underside of his jaw. âIâm keeping it, but your present is better, I just know it. Whatever it is, could never beat this.â
âPromise?â
âI promise, Dray.âÂ
He gave in, wrapping his arms around your waist, tugging you in closer to his body and pressing a happy kiss to your cheek. âFine, but Iâm buying you a new necklace when we get off the damn plane. I donât care who bought that one.â

knock on wood but already had the thought about how the potential What If winstuk of ostensible post-7x03/WDE could just be....boisterous. effulgent. vibrant.
#and it could Not Be. we could have tuk be like i; specifically; hate you; specifically. bit of a damper esp. not assuming further material#but if there's the setup for Contrast Surprise in ''everyone hates winston & has been assaulting him or not moved to make sure he's not#assaulted all day'' bad time & he ends up Unleashed. perfect time to meet just out of frame like knock knock it's me your actual friennd...#anyways i have boundless thoughts; feelings abt WDE Impends that i won't try to expound & enumerate via thirty tags limits#representative is how atm the vibe is [mild] but earlier did have an adrenal response to secondhand info. which is also just a tuesday but#winston billions#winstuk#it could sure just be everyone lining up for a last chance at telling winston they wish he was dead & then forget he exists next ep#like what happens when he's been offscreen for a moment all these five seasons lol#and of course i've thought abt ''well it's not even off the table he litchreally dies offscreen lol lmao''#it's just like 4x11 time to lose forty followers overnight#causing mpc problems? maybe someone will kill you for real.#then his life will have served its highest purpose: upping the stakes for people who matter (rian going ''hope that doesnt happen to me'')#but this would be as likely as anyone following up on winston ever to even realize if he's alive or not. maybe if they Had to ask him smth#billions probably wouldn't be that mean but who even knows. do you want maximal drama out of the winston sendoff or not#like thanks for naming an episode after him and his dick energy i guess....could've just written him out offscreen entirely#but i also have the standards of ''yes i'm gonna be pissed if/when they write him out w/o treating him like another Person in universe''#and even if they do at all in some ways. i'll also be annoyed if they stick to the tradition of not letting taylor talk to him#i know someone official liked my livetweet about that backpat. you all had better do any damn thing. sigh. anyways#only Some expounding. the winstuk setup potential could also be cuntrageous as it'd be great if winston could be more generally

My mom suffers from a critical salt deficiency. This is a lie. She just started her life at a baseline of salt much below the average person. Also untrue. She just fuckin loves salt. That oneâs real.
My momâs boundless hunger for salt manifests in a few ways but itâs almost always met with outrage and to be honest I canât fault the people who serve her food for being infuriated. She even salts her watermelon.
The most memorable occasion for me was at a creperie in Paris. My mom ordered a ham and cheese crepe. Our food arrived, it looked amazing. My dad and I reached for our silverware.
My mother reached for the salt.
Itâs critical to know that she did not taste the crepe before reaching. We had no prior frame of reference for their baseline saltiness. Nevertheless. She automatically went straight to needing more salt.
I looked up and saw our server watching my mother with a look of pure indignation and rage. âMom,â I said urgently, âYou didnât even try it yet.â
She waved me off and salted the crepe before taking a bite and nodding complacent enjoyment. The server did not return to our table of his own volition.
Most recently for her birthday we went to the aquarium. They had a little restaurant on site and my folks got fish and chips. Mom specified she would like salt and ketchup then waited for dad and I to go collect our food.
I picked up our food and asked the cook, âIs there salt packets?â
His head shot up in confused annoyance, âItâs well seasoned,â he said.
âBelieve me. My mom would add salt to a salt lick, I wonât be allowed at the table if I donât bring extra.â
He looked into my eyes and we shared a silent moment of suffering before he pointed to a tiny hidden bin of salt packets. I thanked him and brought my mom her food.
She salted the fries before tasting them and pronounced them very pleasant.

main masterlist || series masterlist || previous chapter || next chapter
When Sukuna was in the sixth grade, he read A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket for a project. He doesnât remember the plot, the characters, nor any details of real importance about the series, but he knows one thing for sure.
The title could describe how his day unfolded.
Nothing is particularly out of place throughout his morning. He wakes up to the sound of his alarm, blearily rubbing his eyes as he gets out of bed for an early morning workout. He throws his airpods in and turns on his workout playlist as he lifts weights and hops on his treadmill before taking a cold shower to rouse himself from the clutches of drowsiness.
He wakes up the kids, helping Yuji get ready while he multitasks making oatmeal for breakfast and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for their lunches, which he tosses into their Pokemon lunch bags alongside some snacks. Mornings like these are like clockwork for him, simple and predictable, just how he prefers. No surprises.
With the first snow of the season chilling the air, he bundles both kids up in winter gear and grabs his heavy coat before walking them to school. He sets his alarm for their pickup, allowing him just enough time to get to his final class of the day, albeit a little bit late. Nothing new about that, though. As long as he isnât late for your presentation, thatâs all that matters. Itâs the one thing heâs keeping at the front of his mind so as not to disappoint you.
Heâs not sure why it matters so much, but like an itch he canât scratch, the thought wonât go away. Ever-present and the only thing at the forefront of his mind since he accepted the presentation on your behalf. Heâs not foolish enough to think that thereâs any world in which you want to present at all, even though he knows you wouldnât say no to the extra credit, and he could use it too.
He blinks snow away from his lashes, letting it melt from the warmth of his cheeks as his gaze sticks to the ground before him. His fingers fumble with the metal lighter in his pocket as he walks. Heâs had it for a long time, evidence of how worn it is carved into the steel, but heâd sooner pull it apart and put it back together himself than get rid of it if it failed.
As he reaches the campus with time to spare, he spots one of your friends outside the building to his next class. He recognizes the blonde immediately, the one you sit next to at lunch, though he doesnât recall his name. He knows they share an Accounting class, though him and Sukuna have never interacted beyond brief glances.
Keeping his distance from the blonde, Sukuna pulls out a cigarette as his thoughts are once again back on you, and all he can do is pray the nicotine dulls the feeling of his heart palpitating just at the thought of you like some pathetic teenager. The smoke billows and wisps in the air, more evident than usual in the cold, and he relishes in its brief reprieve from his thoughts.
Itâs lust.
Itâs nothing more than a reminder that he needs to find an excuse for his neighbour to watch his brothers so he can attend one of Gojoâs shitty frat parties and get laid.
With a glance at his watch, he stubs out his cigarette and trudges past the blonde without a glance. He makes his way to his usual seat isolated from the rest of the students in the corner closest to the door in case he needs to leave. Flipping his laptop open, he waits for the old computer to boot up so he can put together a semblance of an outline to work off of for the presentation at the end of the day.
Itâs then that his misfortune begins.
His eyes flicker down to a notification in his email inbox and he sighs at the sight of the contact, his boss at the warehouse looking for him to fill a shift. Right now. He could accept the shift, miss European History, get off in time to pick up his brothers, bring them home, shower, and make it to Art History albeit a few minutes later than heâd intended. That wouldnât be a big deal, you wouldnât present at the beginning of class. It would also give him enough money to begin looking at Christmas gifts for the brats, which is an appealing ideaâŚ
He accepts the shift, and slips out towards the end of class. The shift isnât unlike any other, nothing that would make anyone think this day is worse than any other. Sure, he stepped in a deep pile of snow on his way back from his shift and his ankle damn near froze and his socks are wet, but heâll live. Not the end of the world.
He clocks out and picks up his brothers without a hitch, getting back with enough time to quickly shower the remnants of his shift from his skin and toss on a black hoodie with a Deftones logo across the front, and a pair of black jeans that were strewn over the back of his desk chair. His neighbor would be over any minute and he could head to class, only a few minutes late. An exhausting start to his day, but not bad.
A knock at the door sounds, and Sukunaâs brow furrows. Since when does his neighbor knock? He gave her a key for a reason.
âChoso! Grab that!â He calls as he throws his laptop and textbooks into his backpack, sure the sitter just forgot her keys despite being literally across the hall.
With a sigh, Sukuna casts a glance back at his room to see if heâs forgotten anything, when Choso peeks his head through a crack in the door. âKuna? Someoneâs asking for you.â
The tattooed manâs brow furrows further as he throws his backpack over one shoulder and follows after his little brother, who had shut the door on the person upon realizing it wasnât their neighbor. The little boy stands a small ways back as Sukuna opens the door.
A man dressed in a long, deep gray peacoat with neatly styled hair stands at the door. Something akin to shock flickers in the manâs gaze at the sight of Sukuna, but it hardens as he addresses him.
âIâm looking for Ryomen Sukuna.â
Sukunaâs eyes narrow, his posture straightening. âWhat do you want?â
âCan you confirm youâre Ryomen Sukuna?â The man doubles down, keeping his expression indifferent.
With a scowl, Sukuna nods. âYeah, Iâm Sukuna. What do you want?â Thereâs more bite this time as Sukuna repeats his question.
âExcellent. I am here to serve you with legal documents. Please ensure that you attend your court hearing on March 23rd. By accepting these documents, you have been officially notified. Should you decline them, I am still obligated to make a note of this interaction.â
âThe fuck?â Sukuna snatches the manilla envelope from the manâs hands, ripping it open and pulling the documents out. His eyes scan the words on the document, widening in disbelief. âYouâre fucking kidding me.â
â
If Sukuna were a better man, he would have put your presentation in his calendar. He would have made an alarm. He would have sent you an email. Anything to let you know he was occupied. If he was a better man, he wouldnât have torn his court documents in two. The ripped paper is hardly any concern when the handle on his door fell to the ground with a clank with the force he used to shut the door. At least one of those could be fixed with tape.
If Sukuna was a better man, he would have noticed his mistake before it got dark out.
With his head in his hands, he stares out the window by the table at the back of his apartment, brimming with anger when it all comes back to him.
The fucking presentation.
He wants to tell himself that he shouldnât care, that youâre just a nuisance that wormed your way into his life and his mind. He wants to tell himself that you donât matter and that he should forget about you like he had tried to last week, and accept that like everyone else in his life, he let you down.
But when he envisions your genuinely nervous expression at the thought of presenting even with him, his blood runs cold at the thought of you presenting without him.
He balls his hand into a fist, trembling from the sheer force of strength he puts into flexing his muscles.
âFuck!â He hisses, slamming his palm down onto the table as he pushes himself up, sending ripped paper tumbling to the floor. His chair scrapes loudly across the scuffed hardwood of the dining space as he rushes to the door, pausing for only a moment at the sight of the handle heâd barely managed to screw loosely back into place. His jaw tightens as he grabs his keys and coat, tugging the door open a bit too hard as he hears the handle fall to the ground with a metallic thud inside the apartment.
As if he wasnât already frustrated enough, this only serves to piss him off further. He considers himself lucky (if it can even be called that at this point) that his neighbor is still willing to watch his brothers (with a warning about the door handle) after the irritated dismissal heâd thrown her way earlier, but heâll fix that bridge later.
Thereâs a more important one on his mind right now.
Heâs not sure why he runs to campus first. Of course you wonât be there. Of course the professor wonât be in class, with the lecture hall closed and locked.
He tries the door again, as though a second tug at the handle might turn back time to three hours ago when he should have been here, but itâs nothing but wishful thinking. With his hand still on the unmoving handle, he slams his head against the door.
âFuck!â With his brothers no longer around to hear, the curse escapes him in a furious roar. Whatever anger had been simmering at the surface for hours now bubbles over and explodes. In a flurry of frustration and pent up emotions, he reaches into his pocket and tosses the first thing that hits his fingers.
His lighter collides with the wall with a dull thud, falling in two pieces to the ground across the hall as a small dent is left in its wake in the drywall.
Sukunaâs hands rake through his hair, his teeth gritted as he inhales sharply, grappling with the weight of his emotions. He stumbles back until his back collides with the wall behind him, sliding down it with his head in his hands. Heâs not sure how long he sits there before the sound of the cold wind whipping at the door outside brings him back to the present.
Running a hand over his face again, he grits his teeth as he stares across the hall at the lighter on the floor and frowns. Pushing himself to his feet, he crouches in front of it as he gathers the lid, hinge, and body, smoothing his thumb over the engraved name of his father on the steel.
Looks like heâll be learning to fix a lighter sooner than he thought. Shoving it back into his pocket, he pulls his hood up over his head and makes his way back out into the cold. Itâs well into the evening now, the cold snowflakes a sharp contrast to his warm skin as the night temperature falls well below that of the early morning.
His gaze rakes the empty Friday night campus. Distant laughter outside one of the bars on campus is all that disrupts the drone of wind and distant cars. Youâre gonna be pissed. You have every right to be pissed, and he knows it, but for some god forsaken reason that Sukuna canât make sense of, he canât leave this be. He doesnât want the image of your fearful expression as you present alone to be the only thing that comes to mind when he thinks of you.
Would it be stupid of him to show up at your door? He doesnât even know. He doesnât know what the protocol is for shit like this because this doesnât happen to people like him. Sukunaâs only long-lasting friendship is with Uraume, who knows him well enough to know not to hold his fuck-ups against him. Itâs a miracle theyâre still friends, if heâs honest with himself. Of course, he has other people he hangs around with here and there, but no one close enough to bother himself with matters like this.
Fiddling with the broken lighter in his pocket, he sets off towards your place, bussing to the nearest stop as he makes his way there from memory. He buzzes your apartment, staring at the ground as the machine rings several times, before it eventually hangs up.
No.
He hits the button for your apartment once more, but you still donât answer. Youâre not home.
âFuck,â he mutters, the remnants of his anger fizzling out into concern and something that twists in his gut- dread. The day has worn him down so much he has half a mind to wait for you to come home and try to talk to you, but with his mind and body as drained as he is, he doesnât think heâll make it home if he doesnât leave now. Thatâs not even taking the cold into consideration.
Trudging back to the bus stop, he slides down against the bench and stares up at the sky. The stars are barely visible, but a few still shine brightly enough to be seen over the glow of the city lights. Like everyone else, he took Astronomy as an elective just for the credits, and he remembers that the stars that donât flicker are planets. He wonders if the one heâs staring at is Jupiter, or maybe Venus.
He wonders if you like looking at the stars.
Sukuna leans forward with his head in his hands. Heâs fucked, heâs so fucked. How many âunfortunate eventsâ do those kids go through in that stupid book? How many more can he take?
He swallows hard, reaching into his pocket for a cigarette and balancing it between his lips, reaching in again for his lighter. Although the cap isnât attached, he hopes it still turns. To his relief, it produces a flame and he sets the broken cap over it to put it out, replacing the pieces into his pocket as he waits for the bus. The nicotine does very little to help dull the edge of his stress.
The ride home is quiet, save for the rumbling of the busâ engine and the tapping of someoneâs foot at the front of the vehicle. Itâs not long before Sukunaâs back in his apartment with a screwdriver in-hand as he holds the doorknob back in place while screwing it back in. Its hold on the wooden frame is loose at best given just how badly heâd jostled it earlier and Sukuna has to turn to super glue to keep it in place.
Putting the kids to bed is a mechanical and empty action, one that he tries with every fiber of his being to hide from them. Theyâre smart kids, he knows theyâve already figured out something is up, but Sukuna needs to keep up appearances and make it seem as though nothing is wrong.
With the kids in bed, he sits at his desk with his laptop, his fingers hovering over your email thread. âsorryâ, he types out, before hitting backspace. âhowd the presentation go?â, he then types out, but thatâs just about the worst thing he thinks he could send. âcan we talk?â he tries next, staring at the screen. He rubs his eyes with his thumb and forefinger before typing and hitting send before he can overthink his words.
[email protected] - Friday, 10:02 PM hey. let me know if you get this. i owe you.
Shutting his laptop, he leans over his desk, his chin propped up on his forearms.
His mind is plagued with thoughts that make it feel as though a dagger is being plunged straight into his chest, each one twisting and dragging it through his body. He wants to fight back, he wants to fight back so violently that he draws blood, but thereâs no one on the receiving end of his anger but the world itself.
He grits his teeth, exerting enough strength that he knows his jaw will be sore tomorrow. Every muscle in his body already aches, why not add another one? With a sigh, he finds it in him to sit back up, staring helplessly at the ceiling.
When Sukuna was in second grade, he read Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst. He doesnât remember what that one was about either, but that one could be the title for his day as well.
â
You blink up at the ceiling the Saturday following your shitty presentation, emotionally drained. Though Nanami had proposed to take you for breakfast⌠or lunch or dinner, he had allowed you to decline this time, unlike on Friday. Youâre no less thankful for him being there for you, but all you really want to do is take some time for yourself.
Pushing yourself out of bed to make tea, you stare out at the snowscape outside your window, glad youâre staying inside as youâre able to bundle yourself up in blankets. You pick up your laptop, setting it on your lap in front of you as you browse movies, looking for something that appeals to you.
Your email inbox number rises as you peruse streaming services, though you donât bother to look at it. Youâre not awaiting any emails. That is, until itâs rising steadily as youâre watching it.
You know whoâs blowing up your inbox. Itâs not the latest deals from the ramen store down the street, or Netflix requesting to change your password.
Itâs the one person you donât want to talk to.
Your mouse hovers over the âxâ, your finger not even an inch away from clicking. Yet some sort of bitter curiosity gets the better of you as you click on your inbox.
Seven emails, huh?
You sigh as you stare at the emails. Heâs replying to the thread of your last exchanges, so you canât see a preview of what heâs written.
âIs it so wrong of me to be disappointed?â You remember asking Nanami last night, stirring the straw in your milkshake mindlessly.
He sits up in his seat. âHe made you a promise, no? You have every right to be upset.â
You glance up at him. His sharp mahogany eyes are unreadable, but you can sense his sympathy for you through his actions.
Youâre silent, absorbing his words as you return to mindlessly stirring your milkshake. The chatter around you is dull in comparison to the loud thoughts of inadequacy digging their filthy claws into your mind.
âI made a fool of myself.â
âNo one will remember by Monday,â Nanami tries to reassure you, but it falls on deaf ears.
âI think I said that to myself after Prom.â
Nanamiâs lips press together in a tight-lipped frown. âWe were kids, back then. All of us, all of them. Things will be different this time around.â
âDo you believe that, or are you just saying that to reassure me?â You ask with a dry laugh, a nervous reaction to his sympathy.
Kento frowns, leaning forward. âI believe it with my entire being,â he replies firmly, ending his statement with your name. You glance up at him again, observing the way his jaw tenses when he sees your puffy cheeks and reddened eyes. âDonât let this keep you from being you.â
You stare back down at the strawberry milkshake. Itâs melting so steadily itâs hardly a shake anymore, itâs closer to strawberry milk.
âYou know what the worst part of this whole thing is?â
âWhatâs that?â
âWell-â you laugh bitterly, â- I can't decide what's worse; That Iâm actually still worried about him for some reason or that I ever believed him to begin with.â
Nanamiâs gaze flickers away from you as he leans forwards over the table. He contemplates his words carefully, mindful of your obvious feelings for the burly man. âYou don't deserve to contemplate that over someone.â
âWhat am I supposed to contemplate, then?â You chuckle wryly, finally taking a sip of your milkshake. Itâs definitely just strawberry milk now. At least itâs not lukewarm yet.
âDid you see the latest episode of âLove is Blindâ?â
You set your milkshake down with a clink. âDid you?â
âWell⌠No, but I heard Shoko and Haibara speaking about it at lunch.â
You crack a smile. Itâs half-hearted and doesn't reach your eyes, but he senses your amusement anyways and returns your smile.
Now, staring at your unopened emails from Sukuna, Nanamiâs words continue to echo in your mind.
âYou don't deserve to contemplate that over someone.â
So why are you struggling to return to Netflix? You should just watch a movie and forget about him. If his words meant anything, he would have shown up when you needed him. He wouldnât have made promises he couldnât keep.
Sighing, you will yourself to click away and keep your mind off of him as you peruse movies on Netflix. Mindlessly scrolling through each category, itâs by the third one that it occurs to you that you havenât actually been paying attention to your options, your thoughts occupied by the one man youâre trying to avoid.
After showing you his words mean nothing, why are you still so stuck to him like glue? Staring into your mug of tea, you frown when the answers to your problems arenât swirling within the warm drink.
Against your better judgment, you take a sip of your tea and click on his emails.
[email protected] - Friday, 10:02 PM hey. let me know if you get this. i owe you.
Frustration stirs within you. He knew damn well that you would be upset with him for not showing up and the best he can do is an âI owe youâ?
[email protected] - Saturday, 7:23 AM cmon just let me know youre seeing this
[email protected] - Saturday, 7:28 AM fuck, i know i
[email protected] - Saturday, 7:29 AM shit. hit send too early. i know i fucked up but give me a chance to explain
[email protected] - Saturday, 7:33 AM please.
The sight of his plea staring back at you feels like a mockery. Burying your face in your hands, you groan loudly to yourself, as though it might help you make sense of your emotions. Sukuna doesnât plead with people, heâs made that much clear. Everything with him happens on his terms and is purely transactional, so whatâs changed to have him suddenly begging for your attention without asking for anything in return?
Some delusional part of you wants to believe that whatever he wants from you is more than just free babysitting services but heâs given you no reason to believe otherwise.
[email protected] - Saturday, 8:41 AM ill make it up to you. idk how but fuck
You know heâs serious when his email ends with your name. Not Prom Queen, not some nickname that borderlines on flirty, but your given name.
Your mouse hovers over the reply button, thoughts racing through your mind. What if there was an emergency? What if he needs help? What if the boys are in trouble?
No, if something was wrong he wouldnât be rambling over email. Nothing is wrong, Sukuna is just an asshole, and maybe you need to remind yourself of that. Maybe youâre too kind, maybe you give others the benefit of the doubt too often when they donât deserve it. Maybe the rumors about Sukuna were always true. Maybe Gojo is right about him.
With frustration fueling your movements, you close the emails and shut the tab. He doesnât deserve your time and youâll be damned if you let him ruin your weekend with his incessant messages.
Returning to Netflix, you finally settle on a romantic comedy youâve been meaning to watch and get back to your (somewhat cold) tea.
â
After a relaxing Saturday spent by yourself and a rejuvenating Sunday spent alongside Shoko, who convinced you (again) to forget about Sukuna, you feel miles better than you did on Friday.
Shoko was ready to put up a fight with your former project partner when you told her what had happened. Now that classes had ended for the semester and you only found yourself on campus to make use of the library, the extra free time only fueled her fire. Nanami, usually cool and composed, was no better when the two of you joined him in the library.
âHow are you feeling?â He asked, shooting a glance at Shoko who heâs certain had heard about what went down.
âIâm okay. Thanks, Nanamin,â you shoot him a smile. Though you do seem more at ease than Friday, itâs clear that your anxiety and frustration runs deeper than simply being disappointed. Youâre heartbroken. Shoko and Kento would have to be fools not to see the heart eyes youâd had for the History major.
âIf you need anything from me, please feel free to ask,â he offers.
âAnything at all,â Shoko tacks on to his statement.
A smile pulls at your lips, even as you find yourself sighing. âCan both of you stop trying to fight him? Iâm okay now, really.â
âI wasnât suggesting that I would fight him-â Nanami begins, interrupted by Shoko.
âI was.â
You canât help a laugh at her confidence and the grimace that Nanami dons at the sound of said confidence. Regardless, youâre thankful for their support, even if Shokoâs just a bit too eager to teach Sukuna a lesson.
You all fall into easy silence as you study individual subjects, simply enjoying being in the presence of your friends. The morning is quiet and still in the library outside of the sounds of pencils and pens scratching over paper and textbook pages turning. Only a few other students made their way to campus on the first official day of break aside from you, Kento, and Shoko.
Your focus wanes quickly as you find your thoughts wandering, something thatâs been commonplace when you find yourself stuck in your own head. Your thoughts roam back to Sukunaâs emails, to his mention of wanting to explain what happened. Had something happened?
You shake your head, trying to remind yourself heâs not worth your time of day and you have no reason to trust his words.
The morning drags on as you struggle to focus on your studies and the moment the clock strikes noon, youâre immediately packing up and dragging your friends to the lunch hall, desperate for the reprieve from your hopeless thoughts.
âI think Iâm fucked for my Bio exam,â Shoko sighs as you take a seat at your usual table in the empty hall.
âPerhaps if you had spent more time in your lectures and less time smoking outside my Accounting class, you wouldnât feel that way,â Kento bites back, earning a laugh from you. He may be aloof and calm, but sometimes you forget just how sassy the blonde can be when he wants to be.
âShit, that was your Accounting class?â
âMhm.â
âMotherfucker,â Shoko mutters under her breath, looking off to the side when something catches her eye and she sits up straight suddenly. Both you and Kento take notice of her weird behaviour and go to follow her line of sight, turning your gaze over your shoulder until youâre eye to eye with none other than the cause of all your problems.
Sukunaâs chest rises and falls unevenly, as though he ran to the lunch hall in an effort to find you, his usual aloof expression long gone and replaced with something youâve never seen on him before- regret. Heâs in a black winter coat, his hands fiddling with something in his pocket as he stands there as though heâs debating what he wants to do.
Your heart clenches, your chest feeling heavy all of a sudden. All you can do is freeze, staring uncertainly at him as your body flips between a morbid curiosity to know what happened and the sparks of anger that you feel for him putting you through something you made clear you didnât want to do.
Finally making up his mind, he crosses the lunch hall to you, only to be met with Nanami taking a stand in front of you. Kento is a tall man, though you would never know when he stands between you and Sukuna. Even with the horribly obvious disadvantage between them, thereâs something heartwarming about Kento putting himself between you.
Sukunaâs gaze hardens, his jaw tightening at the sight of Kento. He opens his mouth to say something, but Shoko speaks up first.
âLeave, Sukuna.â
Your lips purse as you glance between Shoko and Kento. Itâs sweet, really, of them to try to spare your feelings and fend for you, but you can do it yourself.
âKen, Sho. I can handle this.â Your smile does little to convince either of them, but with a frown, Nanami sits down. With a resounding sigh, youâre able to finally get a good look at Sukuna.
Youâre used to him looking tired, youâre more than used to him looking downright exhausted, but the expression he wears now isnât exhaustion. His muscles are tense, eyes flickering between your friends before they land on you and itâs only then that his distress becomes apparent. Heâs doing what he can to hide it, but his facade of indifference is already cracked, falling apart at the seams.
Your heart twists at the sight as you wrestle with your anger and concern, deciding finally to put yourself first for once. Something Sukuna is clearly incapable of.
âI donât want to see you, Sukuna.â Your voice is firm and even, and youâre grateful youâre able to keep up the hardened shell youâve built up over the weekend. He doesnât deserve your tears or your anxiety.
âI know. You can tell me to fuck off and Iâll listen, but first you gotta give me a chance to explain,â his voice is raspy, evidence of some sort of strain, and you wonder whether heâs been crying or yelling, or maybe heâs been smoking more than usual. Conceivably all three.
You grimace, staring at the wall as you contemplate his words. âYou promise youâll leave me alone after?â
âAnything.â
Heâs so quick to respond that it tugs at your heart strings. Why is everything about this interaction so unfamiliar? Whereâs the Sukuna you know? Even as he had begun to open up over the last month, youâd never seen him like this. His hand is still fidgeting with something in his pocket, the faint sounds of metal scraping ringing out from his pocket, he keeps shooting glances back at your friends, and his usual air of confidence has fizzled out to nothing.
Then thereâs his appearance. His hair is disheveled, pushed back and sticking out on all sides as though heâs been running his hand non-stop through it. His face is gaunt from a lack of sleep based on the dark circles under his eyes and his jaw has been clenched since the moment he arrived. In fact, that might be the only part of this encounter that is familiar, he looks about as angry as usual.
âFine,â you sigh after a moment, observing the way he exhales in relief.
âCome with me?â He asks, nodding his head towards the door.
Kento and Shoko exchange an uncertain glance as you turn back towards the table and grab your coat and pack your backpack again.
âCall us if you need anything,â Kento speaks up, loud enough for Sukuna to hear as the two men throw scowls at one another. Sukuna knows heâs in the wrong, but he still doesnât care for this protective behaviour Ken, as you called him, is throwing his way. Youâre more than capable of taking care of yourself.
âThanks, Kento,â you whisper with a dry attempt at a smile.
With one final challenging stare at the blonde, Sukuna turns to lead the way as you pull your coat on and follow him out into the cold. The snow has been piling up over the weekend, crunching beneath your feet and allowing the cold to seep into you, chilling you straight to your bones. You zip your jacket up further, wrapping your arms around yourself as you follow after Sukuna.
He glances back at you, at the way youâre obviously cold and struggling to keep in step with him given the height of the snow banks heâs trudging through. He diverts his path until youâre both in a spot thatâs been cleared and youâre able to steadily keep pace with him, although you still keep a small distance back.
The air between you is heavy with unspoken words, and Sukuna knows heâll deserve everything you throw his way, though it doesnât make him anymore eager to get to his destination and keep his mouth shut.
âWhere are we going?â Your voice is meek, and those sharp crimson irises observe you quietly from ahead for a moment before he replies.
âFor lunch.â
âOh, I actually brought my own lun-â Your words die in your throat at the sight of his brow twitching as he stares back at you. âOkay.â
You just need to grin and bear it through the next twenty or so minutes, and then you can ask him never to bother you again.
Keeping your eyes on the snow as it kicks up with each step, youâre silent for the remainder of your walk. You keep yourself a few feet back at all times, only catching up once he finally reaches his destination and holds the door as he waits for you to catch up. You pause at the entrance of the building, finding a cafe sign hung above the door.
With a nearly inaudible âthanksâ, you slip past Sukuna into the building. You both pull your hoods down as you take a look around the cafe. Although itâs only a few blocks from the college, youâve never been inside.
The interior is decorated in warm orange hues with deep wooden floors and plants lining the walls. Thereâs shelves from floor to ceiling filled with loaves of bread and a display at the front filled with pastries. Two menus hang above the back of the counter with sandwiches, soups, and salads, alongside cozy looking drink options. You make your way up to the counter slowly, followed closely by Sukuna.
âGet whatever you want,â he grumbles in a tone that would make anyone else think heâs frustrated with you, but it lacks the usual growl that would give that indication.
âHm? Are you sure?â You ask uncertainly, knowing his financial situation all too well.
He nods. Luckily for Sukuna, he took an extra shift and he thanks whatever god will listen that he did and he can afford to buy you lunch. He owes you more than just food, but itâs a start and he hopes he can convince you to give him a chance to prove himself.
He brings a hand up to scratch his chin, the first signs of stubble poking through his skin and faintly visible around his jaw. Itâs a good look on him although he clearly just hasnât had time or bothered to shave.
âWhatâs good here?â You query, doing whatever you can to ease the discomfort between you, even though you want to tear into him for what he did.
âYa havenât been here?â He quirks a brow questioningly. Youâre so close to the college he assumed you would have been. âI like the chicken and beef barley soups. The deli sandwich is good too,â he shrugs.
After a moment, you settle on a small soup and a grilled cheese, letting your attention wander to the plants as you wait for the food while Sukuna pays. Neither of you dare to interrupt the tense understanding keeping both of you from saying something you may regret, allowing the silence to suffocate you.
Even once your lunch is ready and the two of you find a quiet seat in the back corner of the cafe, it does nothing to ease the growing anger threatening to boil over as this frustrating man canât even so much as apologize.
âHowâs your food?â
You drop your spoon into the bowl. It clatters against the edge with a sound that startles the poor employee behind the counter, but your attention is stuck on the man in front of you. The stupid man who canât bother to start with the one thing you truly want from him.
âYou know Iâm not happy with you, right?â
His gaze flickers between the spoon and your eyes, which are filled with a blazing fire heâs never seen from you before. He sighs, setting his own spoon down as he sits up. âFigured as much when you didnât email me.â
âOh, not emailing you back was what tipped you off that I might be upset? Not-â
âI know, I know.â Heâs strangely somber as he accepts the way youâre tearing into him. âI didnât mean to miss the presentation.â He hunches forward over the table on his forearms, his shoulders tense. Thereâs no subtle cocky bravado behind his demeanor as there usually is, heâs simply⌠here, listening intently.
Shaking your head, you chew on your lip as you do what you can to subdue your anger. âIâm sure you didnât mean to miss our other meetings too, but you really had me thinking this time was different.â
âCâmon, those other times werenât a big deal,â he gruffs, his forearms visibly bulging as he flexes the muscles. Heâs doing his best to keep his frustration at bay.
âNo, they werenât. But this time, you signed me up for public speaking. I told you I didnât want to do it. I even trusted you with my insecurities, and I thought because of that, this time would be different.â You swallow hard, shaking your head as you fight back tears. âBut your word doesnât mean anything, does it?â
âThatâs-â His hand balls into a fist as he growls out the beginning of a sentence, but the sharp look you give him has him re-thinking his words. His hand relaxes, his fingers tapping on the table as he diverts his attention to a plant on the wall. âThatâs not fair,â he manages, strained.
âHow is that not fair? You told me you would handle it and you knew how I felt about presenting. How is that fair to me?â Your voice is low, somewhere between a whisper and a yell as you try to keep your voice down and more importantly even despite the tears pricking at your eyes.
Sukuna adjusts the way heâs sitting, his hunger subsiding at the sight of your growing frustration with him. âItâs⌠not fair to you.â All he can do is agree, because he knows he deserves this.
âSo why couldnât you grow a pair and at least warn me you wouldnât be there? I could have prepared something at least!â You make a motion in the air with your hand in disbelief as your rage grows.
Sukunaâs jaw tightens as memories of why he missed the presentation flood his mind and god how he wants to walk out right now and not worry about you or your feelings, or hurting you, but that would be too simple for Sukunaâs life. No, whatever force of nature Sukuna had angered wanted him to suffer, wanted him to sit here and listen to your agony, pinned to the seat by his reverence for you.
He drags his hands over his face, shaking his head like a dog in an effort to come to his senses and come up with something to say.
His silence is somehow worse than his usual devil-may-care attitude. At least you know how to handle his arrogance and anger. His silence only serves to further the insult of his behavior. âYou really have nothing to say about all of this?â
Sukuna has a million things to say, but his thoughts are so disorganized he doesnât know how to make sense of what he wants to say. What needs to be said. He should have taken more time to come to terms with the gravity of the situation heâd gotten himself into, but he couldnât bear the idea that you would be living with the thought that Sukuna had abandoned you. Yet heâs here now, with you, to disprove that and he doesnât know what he can do to fix things with you. One misstep and he digs a deeper grave than the one heâs sitting in already.
Thatâs the thing about you. Youâre the sun, able to brighten any room you walk into with so much as a smile, and Sukuna isnât even the moon by comparison. Heâs a distant star, flickering on the horizon but always outshone by those brighter. Even knowing this, he so selfishly doesnât want to let you go. He hardly understands it himself, but he finds himself smiling more around you and that alone is worth the effort on his part.
âIâm sorry.â He blurts out a pathetic excuse for an apology, one that he knows wonât put out the fires heâs started, but itâs the best he can manage in his disheveled state.
You shut your eyes, letting out a long, dragging sigh. When you open them, youâre staring down at your reflection in your soup bowl, distorted by floating noodles. Itâs a genuine apology, a rarity when it comes to him, but heâs lost your trust and good will. Of course thereâs a part of you that wants to give him the benefit of the doubt, but heâs not giving you any reason to believe his words, let alone a reason to leave you sputtering over words at the front of your class last week.
Kentoâs right. You donât deserve to be constantly guessing, even if it tugs at your already fragile heart. Why did it have to be him that your heart decided to fixate on?
âI donât know how I expected this to go, but I guess I should have known this would happen,â you mumble, getting to your feet and grabbing your coat. You need to leave now before you second-guess yourself.
âWait-! FuckâŚâ Sukunaâs on his feet in an instant, unable to look you in the eye as he reaches for your wrist, staring at the point where your skin connects like itâs burning him.
âShit, justâŚâ He hesitates, his jaw tightening. âGimme a moment.â He doesnât dare let you go out of fear youâll leave, his other hand dipping into his pocket as he fiddles with his broken lighter again.
It takes him a moment to gather himself but finally he finds his footing.
âLook, I owe you. I know I fuckinâ owe you, okay? It was a piece of shit move.â He finally meets your gaze, his resolve hardening. âI shoulda been there, I- I got caught up with something. I didnât mean to miss it and I-â he hesitates, â- Iâm begginâ you to trust me.â
âWhy should I trust you? Youâve never given me any reason to. This is just a shitty excuse to use me as a free babysitter again,â you shrug, trying to use reason so as not to fall for the excuses heâs sputtering that your heart so desperately wants to cling to.
His face contorts in disbelief. âWhy the fuck would I care about that?â
âIf thatâs not what this is about, then what is it about? Because if you cared about me at all, you would have been there.â
âFuck- No- Thatâs not-â He huffs, his anger threatening to boil over. Running his spare hand through his hair, he grumbles another curse under his breath. âProm Queen-â
âDonât call me that.â He knows thatâs the cause of your humiliation in the first place, to bring it up right now is downright cruel.
â- Somethinâ happened- with the kids. I didnât forget. I wanted to be there, I swear on my life that something came up.â
You pause, contemplating his words as he finally gives you some semblance of a reason for his absence, and itâs the exact reason youâd expressed to Kento that had you still worried over the manâs dumb ass. An emergency, a reason to be worried about him, even if he didnât deserve that kindness from you.
âWhat happened?â You ask cautiously, sitting back down. Sukuna breathes out a sigh of relief and releases your wrist when you sit back down with him.
âItâs nothinâ I canât handle, but I need you to believe me. I donât care that you were babysitting the brats. And that wasnât free anyway.â
It was, but youâll let that slide.
Your brow furrows. âWhat is this about then? Since when do you care about anyone other than your brothers or yourself?â
âChrist, Iâm not heartless,â he mutters, shutting his mouth when you shoot him a glare. Yeah, he deserves that. âI care. I do care.â He runs his tongue over his lower lip.
âYou didnât seem to care when you didnât talk to me for a week and a half straight.â
âI thought we already established that I was a dick for that,â he grumbles, frowning.
âThat was when this was a one-time thing. Twice, Sukuna? Really? How am I supposed to trust you when you pulled the same stunt again so soon?â You grimace, quietly observing the way his finger is tapping the table in sync with his leg shaking. At the very least, he doesnât seem to be lying.
âI donât expect you to, just give me a chance. Gimme a chance to prove I mean it.â
Kento would kill you for even entertaining the thought, yet⌠you canât help it.
âCan you at least tell me what happened?â
Sukuna sighs, leaning back and crossing his arms. If ever there was a time to tell you what happened, it should be now. But Sukuna canât bear the thought of bogging down your life with more issues than what heâs already thrust upon you. âI donât want you involved in it.â
âYouâre not doing yourself any favors by not telling me.â
âI know,â he frowns, âbut I donât want you involved. Itâs messy and complicated and I know you and I know you like to stick your nose in my fuckinâ business,â he scowls at the thought.
âYou could at least be nice to me since youâre trying to apologize.â You grimace, exasperated with the attitude heâs throwing your way. Youâre tired of his bullshit and who can blame you?
âRight. Sorry. Iâm an asshole.â He sees the gears turning in your mind. âIâm a dick,â he tries to appeal to you. Had he blinked, he could have missed the way your lips twitched at the corners into the smallest hint of a smile. âJust give me one chance.â
You stare down at your soup, which is surely cold by now, scrutinizing him as you think things through. Your silence is nothing short of miserable for Sukuna, but heâll give you all the time in the world if he can have your kindness for one more second.
Itâs that same kindness that you just know Shoko and Kento are going to absolutely kill you for as you let out a prolonged sigh after weighing your options. âOne chance, Sukuna. One.â Maybe youâre naive for it, but you want to believe that whatever reason he had is a good one.
To your surprise, thereâs no irritated grumble or begrudging sigh from him. No notes of disapproval. He simply nods.
âAnd you have to help me study.â
âDeal.â
âOh! And you have to come eat lunch with me on campus again.â
His lip curls up in distaste. âYour friends donât like me.â
âTheyâll come around,â you shrug. âOh! And-â
âAlright, alright. Donât push your luck, woman,â Sukuna grumbles, leaning on his fist. You giggle at him and although he knows things arenât back to normal, itâs a start. Heâs not stupid enough to think heâs fixed everything right away, but even if it doesnât quite reach your eyes, heâs thrilled to at least see that youâre smiling.
That smile thatâs like the sun.
The rest of lunch is quieter than usual, the regular cadence of your conversations never fully returning.
âHow are Choso and Yuji? Is everything alright now?â
The burly manâs eyes seem to dull at the question as they stay fixed on the soup heâs eating. âTheyâll be fine.â
His reaction is anything but reassuring. He doesnât seem nearly as sure of himself as usual, choosing instead to push the question aside. âAre you okay?â
âIâm fine.â
Fuck, is he ever difficult sometimes.
âYou know, if weâre gonna try to be friends, Iâd appreciate it if you gave me something to work with here,â you offer a wry smile, your best attempt at lightening the air. He shoots you a glance, spooning more soup into his mouth as he leans on his palm against the table.
âItâs been a shitty weekend,â he answers. Well, that doesnât really give you anything to work with, but at least heâs being honest with you. You fall silent again, the steady clinking of spoons against porcelain and the buzzing of a lunch rush behind you seeming to fall to the wayside in favor of a quiet understanding that things arenât quite back to normal.
âAm I allowed to ask how the presentation went or would I be digging my own grave?â Sukuna asks over a spoonful of soup after an extended silence.
âI humiliated myself, what do you want me to say?â
âIâm sure it wasnât that bad,â he tries to reassure you, though it comes across empty.
Youâre reminded of the laughter and judgmental glares, setting your spoon down as the reigns of anxiety stir in your stomach at the thought.
âIâm sorry, Pr-â he hesitates, his jaw tightening as the new meaning of his go-to nickname sinks in. â- Princess. I hope you at least took credit for my bullshit.â
âI did.â
Sukuna offers a proud smile. âGood girl.â
You blink down at your soup as your stomach does a backflip and your cheeks heat up, and all you can do is pray that he hasnât noticed the effect that his words had on you.
Itâs not long before youâve both finished your meals over relative silence. âUm- thanks for lunch.â
âYeah. No problem,â Sukuna gruffs.
âI should go.â
âLet me walk you back,â he insists, as though the uneasy silence wasnât enough for him. With a lopsided smile, you grab both of your trays and dispose of the trash before you find yourself back out in the cold again.
Sukuna mindlessly fiddles with the lighter in his pocket again, a reminder that he needs to figure out how to put it back together, much like his friendship with you, if he can even call it that.
In an effort to mend things, you turn towards him as you wait to cross the street, smiling shyly. âYou know, I do appreciate the effort, Sukuna. I honestly didnât think youâd really bother trying.â
He scowls. âSometimes youâre too honest.â He sighs, but he canât be too upset when youâre giggling again, even if itâs at his expense. âBut, thatâs fai- shit!â He cuts himself off, whipping his hand from his pocket in a flash as he pats his jacket down.
Your lips are pursed as you watch him, puzzled by what heâs doing. That is, until a puff of smoke leaves his pocket. You blink at him.
âDid you justâŚâ
âShut up.â
âLight yourself on fire?â
âI said shut up,â he hisses, his cheeks reddening. Heâll blame the cold if you ask, but heâs embarrassed beyond belief, his cool exterior crumbling as he somehow managed to spark a flame in his own damn pocket.
You bite down hard on your lip in an effort to stop yourself from laughing.
âDonât. Donât fucking laugh.â He snarls, flashing you a glare.
But being told not to do something only makes it that much harder.
âYouâre-â A laugh bubbles between your words and you do your best to swallow it. âYouâre okay right?â You strain through your barely-contained chortles.
With a peek into his pocket, he pulls out the lighter, lid, and hinge pin, tossing them into the opposite pocket as he pats down his coat once more. âYeah, seems fine now.â
Well if heâs fine- you absolutely double over in laughter, unable to bear holding it in any longer.
âOh, laugh it up, short stuff,â he grumbles, dusting whatever ashes had clung to his skin off onto his jeans. He grits his teeth as he watches you double over at his expense, his cheeks no less red than they were a minute ago as the crimson glow spreads to his ears.
At least this time he can blame the cold, or the fire.
Not that youâd believe him.
As your giggles finally subside, Sukunaâs able to relax more than he has since Friday at the sight of your eyes crinkling at the corners in genuine happiness. Maybe embarrassing himself in front of you isnât so bad, if it brings back a semblance of the connection heâd been chasing since he found you in the lunch hall.
Wiping tears from the corners of your eyes, you tilt your head. Cute. âHow did that even happen? Donât lighters have like a- a-â you wrack your brain, turning your attention to the overcast sky. âLike a safety or something?â
Sukuna digs a hand into his pocket that isnât singed, holding the base of his lighter out to you. âIt might have, but itâs broken.â
Curiously, you run your hand over the broken hinge, flipping the lighter over. The name âItadoriâ is carved in cursive across the back.
âItadori?â
Sukuna hums. âMy dad.â
Your face softens. âI think it can be fixed.â You hold it back out to him and he tucks it back in place.
âMaybe.â
Now that Sukunaâs not literally on fire, youâre able to cross the street and head back to the library where youâre sure youâll find Kento and Shoko.
âAre you gonna join us?â
âAnother time. I gotta take care of some shit.â
âThanks for lunch. See you around, Sukuna.â
Before you can turn away, his fingers brush your wrist, as if heâs hesitant to stop you.
âThank you,â he breathes quietly.
You smile.
â
âYou have got to be fucking kidding me.â
âSho, please, you werenât there!â You try to insist.
âGirl. Iâm begging you, youâre better than him.â
To nobodyâs shock or awe, Shoko and Kento are equally as unimpressed that youâve given Sukuna another chance. It comes from a place of concern, of course, but they insist youâre letting him walk all over you.
âThere was an emergency with-â you cut yourself off with a glance at Nanami. You suppose you canât go airing out Sukunaâs personal business to him given that he doesnât know about the kids. âThere was a family emergency,â you insist, âit was an accident.â
âYou believe that bullshit?â Shokoâs whipping an unlit cigarette through the air like itâs a sword and itâs you sheâs aiming to strike.
âI donât think itâs bullshit,â you mumble.
With a sullen sigh, Kento finally speaks up in an unimpressed tone. âHad we not just discussed that you deserve better?â
You wince, his words searing. âHe made a mistake. Accidents happen, Ken.â
âHell of an accident,â Shoko shakes her head. âYouâre actually hopeless.â
Pouting, you look to Kento for backup, but he doesnât seem to be in agreement either.
âGive him a break,â you whine, âhe literally lit himself on fire today.â
Thereâs a collective hum of confusion from both of your friends.
âHe was messing with a lighter in his pocket and he accidentally lit his pocket on fire,â you grin.
Shoko scoffs. âThatâs almost impressive, between the safety and the lack of oxygen in his pocket.â
âWell, the safety was broken,â you reason.
âHah. Dumbass,â she snorts, exchanging a glance with Nanami. âJust⌠be careful with him, okay? Heâs got a short fuse and a whole boatload of baggage that you and your scholarship donât need to be involved in.â
âDonât let him step on you,â Kento pleads in a tone unfamiliar to you.
Your brow furrows as you observe him, but his expression is aloof as ever. âI know, I know. Iâll be careful, I promise.â
â
Itâs cold as you slip into the lobby of Sukunaâs building the following evening. Youâd re-opened your email tab the previous night to find a message from him.
[email protected] - Monday, 8:58 PM busy tomorrow? kids wanna see ya
[email protected] - Monday, 9:39 PM Just the kids want to see me? ;)
[email protected] - Monday, 9:47 PM you coming or not
You could envision his scowl from behind the screen as you teased him, a stupid smile on your face at the thought of it. Things may not be back to normal, but your heart certainly isnât aware of that as it palpitates at every thought of him.
Now, as you make your way up to his apartment with your GameCube, you don't really know what to expect.
The moment you crack the door to his apartment, youâre bombarded by Yuji in a tight hug as heâs practically leaping into your arms in utter excitement. Caught off-guard, you barely manage to catch him as he excitedly chants your name.
âWe missed you!â He grins as you let him up onto your shoulders, ruffling Chosoâs hair while he calmly smiles in greeting.
âThatâs enough,Yu,â Sukuna mutters from the stove. Heâs dressed in a pair of jeans, that same painfully tight black tank top from last week and a red plaid shirt that hangs loosely from his shoulders. A pair of wireless black headphones sits atop his head, but he pulls them down around his neck as you enter the apartment.
Yuji pouts as he begins to clamber down from your shoulders, landing with a thump! back on the floor before hopping over to the TV again.
Bringing you around the kids is likely a part of Sukunaâs scheme to bring things back to normal, now that youâre seeing him again. Kids are smart, too smart at times and they would know if something is wrong.
The apartment is warm in contrast to the cold winter evening, the smell of fried chicken wafting through the air. You bound up to Sukuna, peeking around his side. âI didnât know you could cook.â
He clicks his tongue. âDâyou think I feed them takeout for every meal?â He arches a brow as he looks over his shoulder at you.
âMaybe,â you simper, looking over the ingredients. Thereâs a rice cooker with a steadily descending clock and heâs frying up some chicken. âKatsu?â
âMm.â
âIt smells great!â You grin, turning back to give Sukuna space to cook as you head back towards Choso and Yuji. âSo, I hear you two missed me?â You chide, your heart filled with warmth when Yuji eagerly nods and launches into a story from school that heâd been wanting to tell you since last week. You listen attentively and his eyes shine when you laugh along with him.
âGive her some space, brat. Come grab plates,â Sukuna instructs calmly, once Yujiâs story is over. Heâs more at ease than he has been in a while, and even with the weight of everything going on in his life piled on his shoulders, he feels the familiar pull of your gravity keeping him grounded.
Like some sort of drug, you just seem to relieve his tension merely with your presence. You really are like the sun, warming his skin and lulling his worries to a dull buzz.
As Yuji excitedly runs over to Sukuna in the kitchen, Choso gingerly approaches you. âThanks for coming.â His tone suggests he knows a portion of what happened between you and Sukuna and heâs grateful youâd give his idiot older brother another chance. Smart kid, just like you thought.
You return his smile. âHowâve you been, Cho?â
âIâm good. Um-â his gaze flickers briefly to the back of the apartment where Sukuna has his arms crossed over his chest as he watches Yuji set the table, handing the little boy three four plates. Chosoâs voice lowers as he continues. âI think somethingâs wrong. Um- with Kuna.â
You tilt your head, following the little boyâs gaze. Sukuna doesnât seem much different from any other time youâve seen him. His skin is still somewhat gaunt, but he looks better than yesterday, no longer under duress. âWhat do you mean?â You prod softly.
âI donât know,â he shrugs, perplexing you. âSomeone came to the house on Friday,â he tells you. Your lips purse at the realization that Friday was your presentation. Maybe his reason for missing your presentation is bigger than heâs letting on. âHe seemed mad at them and then he was gone most of the night.â
âHe seems fine now,â you comment, but you donât know Sukuna well enough to know who could have angered him at the door. âDonât worry about it, sweetheart. Iâm sure your brotherâs fine. Iâll keep an eye on him.â
Choso nods, sunken eyes following Yujiâs movements as he places napkins around the table. Itâs not long before youâre all seated with a plate of chicken katsu curry.Â
âThanks, Kuna!â Yuji cheers gleefully, digging in immediately. His mild expression cracks as he picks up his utensils, eyes flickering around the table to his two little brothers before landing on you. He may only hum in response to Yuji, but you see the subtle gleam in his eye, along with something else that you canât quite identify. Sadness?
Chosoâs words echo in your mind, but you canât find any other sign of anything being wrong. You settle on keeping an eye on him, smiling gratefully at him for making you dinner. The meal is filled with Yujiâs imaginative rambles as he shares stories from school and stories that may only be about forty percent true. Kids, right? Either way, you laugh along and grin at him.
âYou know,â you begin once all of your plates are clean, âif you go check my backpack, I brought something for you guys.â
Like cartoon characters, both kidsâ eyes widen and they bolt off towards the living room, two bundles of thrilled laughter as their full attention turns towards the GameCube tucked into your bag.
As you join Sukuna with two empty plates where heâs cleaning up in the kitchen, he casts a glance at you. âYouâre too good to them.â
Placing your hands on the counter beside him, you shrug. âI just like spoiling them.â
âI see that. They ask about you a lot.â Your heart swells. Youâre not a grinch, but you think your heart grew three sizes just now.
âI think they get it from you,â you tease, poking his bicep. He scowls down at you, rolling his shoulder as though itâll rebuke your teasing.
âThey didnât,â he grumbles, turning towards the sink and flipping on the tap to run water over the plates.
You follow his movement, leaning against the counter beside him. âIs that why youâre being so grumpy about it? Because they donât get it from you?â You grin, giving him a bright smile.
Sukunaâs lips curl into a devious smirk and before you know it, he lifts his hand from the running water and flicks it at your face. His smile widens to a grin when you jump, squealing in shock.
âSukunaaa!â You cry, wiping the water from your cheeks and forehead with the back of your hand.
He chuckles, making a point of letting the water run over his hand again as he shoots you a sly smirk.
âDonât you dare,â you hiss, brow furrowed. But when has Sukuna ever listened?
He subtly flicks more water at you, chuckling when you swat his bicep and go to join his little brothers on the couch with a pout thatâs just too cute. Both kids move to the floor as the familiar sounds of Kirby Air Ride fill the room and Sukuna joins you on the couch, sitting just close enough that his knee brushes your leg.
âYouâre studying English Lit, yeah?â
You nod, shuffling slightly closer to Sukuna to hear him over the TV. âYeah, this is my last year. Iâm hoping I can line something up in the next couple of months.â
âWhat do you wanna do?â He queries, leaning towards you just enough to give you the impression heâs seeking your warmth.
âA book editor!â You grin, eyes shining.
He lifts a brow. âYou wanna read half-baked books for a livinâ?â
You canât help but laugh. âSure, something like that.â
Amused, Sukuna smiles, relaxing into the couch.
âHave you thought more about what you want to do?â You ask cautiously, tilting your head as you prod at Sukunaâs reinforced walls.
A muscle in his jaw ticks. âNo,â he grumbles, pulling his gaze down to his lap. Before you can push him any further, he glances at his watch and gets to his feet. âBe right back.â
You purse your lips as he hurries out of the room as though he has something to do. Sighing, you grab your bag thatâs sitting on the floor by Choso, dragging it to your feet in search of the gum that you know is buried somewhere in its depths. You offer some to both of the boys before tossing your bag aside when something grabs your attention.
A torn piece of paper is on the ground at your feet, it must have slid out from under the couch when you had pulled your bag to your feet. Thatâs not all that unusual given all three of them are students, but the logo on the paper catches your eye.
Decorated in greens, you recognize the bold logo of a law office on the other side of town. A crease forms in your brow as you stare at the logo, but the paper has been torn in a way that all you can really see is the logo and that it addresses Ryomen Sukuna.
Could that have been Sukunaâs dad? No, that wouldnât make sense if his lighter belonged to his father and âItadoriâ is engraved into its side. It had to be Sukuna himself. You suppose youâve never actually heard anyone refer to him by another name, but the name is fitting somehow, even if he chooses not to use it.
The sound of footsteps alerts you to Sukunaâs return and you tuck the paper back where it belongs, or at least where you found it. The nosey and concerned part of you wants to prod, especially given the apprehension Choso expressed to you earlier, but you know better than to push Sukunaâs limits.
Sukuna rounds the corner with tense shoulders, tilting his neck to either side as he cracks it.
âEverything alright?â
âYeah, just didnât wanna hear you nagging about what I wanna do.â Thereâs a little more fire behind his words than usual and you sense that this is not the time to be asking why in the hell thereâs legal papers torn up under his couch like a rabid mutt got a hold of them.
âA little dramatic, donât you-â
âBe nice, Kuna!â Yuji yells suddenly, pausing his game.Â
Sukunaâs jaw slacks in disbelief at his little brother. âPay attention to your game, brat,â he hisses.
âNo! Youâre gonna scare her off again! Meanie!â
âThatâs it-â With a gleam in his eye, Sukuna lunges forward and tosses Yuji over his shoulder. Heâs met with thunderous giggles as the little boy kicks and wriggles in an attempt to escape from his older brother. âYou know what happens to kids who get in their older brotherâs way?â
âNOOoooO!â Yuji cries out between giggles as he pushes his absolute hardest against the mass of muscles that is Sukuna. Choso is quietly laughing as he watches Sukuna toss his brother onto the couch, albeit gently. âNo no no nononono!â Yuji puts his hands up in an attempt to block Sukuna, who pretends to sit on his brother, though you can see heâs not putting his full weight on poor little Yuji.
Putting only an ounce of his weight on his little brother, he slyly grins at you as you laugh along with the siblings, your eyes shining. He may be just about the most hardened and irritated (or maybe irritat-ing) man youâve ever met, but itâs clear just how much he loves his brothers, even if he could use some time away from them.
âKunaaaaaa!!â Yuji cries, weakly pushing against him.
âDâya hear that? Almost sounds like my little brother, except it canât be because he was a little shit,â Sukuna snorts, only to be met with giggles. You bring a hand up to your mouth as you laugh along with the poor little boy.
âLet me gooooooo!!â
âYou done beinâ a brat?â
âYesss I promise, yesss!!â
Sukuna stands up as Yuji dramatically rolls off the couch, feigning being dead. Sukuna plops back down beside you and runs a hand through his locks, mirth swirling in those striking crimson irises of his.
âYouâre still a meanie,â Yuji sticks his tongue out at Sukuna, a mischievous gleam in his eye as he scoots closer to the TV, but Sukuna only rolls his eyes this time. âDonât scare her.â
âIf your brother keeps tutoring me, Iâll be back before you know it,â you reassure the young boy who grins brightly before his attention turns back to the TV. âSpeaking of which, I should get going. My final project for Womenâs Lit is due tomorrow at midnight.â
You begin gathering your things, pausing as you realize you would have to unplug the GameCube to pack up all of your things, so you settle on pretending to forget it, hoping that Sukuna isnât paying attention, his eyes locked on the TV.
Checking to make sure you have your phone, wallet, and keys, you cast one last glance at the corner of the piece of paper beneath the couch thatâs just barely sticking out, debating doing some snooping later.
To your delight as the boys hug you goodbye and Sukuna follows you to the door, he either forgets about the gaming console or lets it slide this time, leaning against the door frame.
âYou make a mean chicken katsu,â you beam, âthanks again for dinner.â
âMm. Thanks for the second chance.â
Your smile softens.
âI got work at one on Thursday. You up to watch the kids? If you drop by earlier, we can study beforehand.â He leans his head down to your level, the warmth of his breath fanning your face as he canât resist flustering you at least once each time you visit. âAnd yâknow, you never did get to tell me the third thing I owe ya,â he hums, his voice low and sultry.
Your breath hitches at the implication behind his tone and before you know it, youâre stumbling back away from his close proximity, fumbling for the button for the elevator as the rickety old door slides open with a jarring screech.
âSee you on- uh- Thursday.â
âSee you then,â he chuckles.
This man will be the absolute death of you.

The thing is, Guillermo being too kind and pure of heart to eat humans was always a fucking lie. Like??? Obviously, I think. And the Cannon Capital arc isn't really a departure for his character, it's us seeing all his worst traits highlighted in an environment that makes them MUCH less fun and sympathetic.
Guillermo has always been an intensely stubborn, self-serving character prone to tunnel vision who was willing to turn over pretty much every corner of his soul if it served his goals. Even if he did sometimes feel bad about it or force himself not to think about it so he wouldn't feel bad, he still did it.
He's still the guy who befriended people with the express purpose of luring them in to be killed. For years. He's still the guy who offered one of his oldest friends up to be murdered at an orgy, and only changed his mind at the very last second. He's still the guy whose version of trying to have a normal human life for once involved lying to pretty much every human in his life--his bio family and his boyfriend--about every aspect of his life but his name. He's still the guy who dismembered the corpses of his victims--yes they're still his victims even if he didn't strike the killing blows himself--in the front yard each morning with a dreamy smile on his face as he talked about the heart wanting what it wants.
Sacrificing Nandor to serve his goals at Cannon Capital is really not that different than sacrificing Jeremy to serve his goals as Nandor's familiar, except that in this case he had a lot more time to think about it and still did it, not via silence or omission but via a direct act of betrayal to Nandor's face. Perhaps it's because he never had to suffer any real consequences for his betrayal of Jeremy that no lessons were learned?
It's also really telling that when you reset Guillermo to his base state via sleep hypnosis, it's the sweetest, most wide-eyed and innocent version of him and STILL the first thing he does is offer himself up to be a vampire's familiar, all in a bid to have enough power that he can't ever be bullied again.
It's understandable. It's reprehensible. It's really ugly in a way that's harder to laugh off when you attach that to an extremely timely, familiar (heh) real-world scenario such as a venture capital firm that makes their money through shady real-estate deals that absolutely gut local livelihoods. But the Guillermo we're seeing right now is just as tunnel-visioned and stubborn and selfish as the Guillermo we've always known. We just very understandably like him less for it when it's real-world monsters we've all seen ruin real lives instead of fantasy monsters that are silly and fun to watch.
But this isn't out of character or off course or a step back. Guillermo is deep in denial and clinging to the Cannon Capital job because he can't face what he's lost as of the end of season 5. He's replaced Nandor with a master that's worse in every way, he's still clinging to the house while pretending he's separating himself, he's still sleeping on the remains of the makeshift coffin Nandor bought for him. He tells himself he is facing it and moving on, but I hope this time we all know that's a lie.
And I'm here for it when it all falls down around his ears, and he finally has to face himself. I'm really excited for it, actually!

Entry 12: The One Where We Start Laying the Yellow Brick Road to Italy
I realized the other day that, even though I like to bounce around from place to place in the Lukola timeline, I probably needed to start tightening things up on the ship if I ever wanted to get to the end of the story. And, yes, dammit, this story better have a finale at some point because thereâs nothing more annoying than an open-ended ending, particularly in the romance genre.
Today weâre going to take a quick jaunt over to Italy because â
NO! Not because Luke is allegedly filming there. If youâre into real-time stalking, youâre in the wrong blog. But, Iâm sure thereâs a Discord for that.
Itâs because Iâve had several people ask for my opinion about the change in behavior between Luke and Nicola during their Day 1 interviews there. Wait â people are interested in my thoughts? Wow, thatâs actually kind of nice. Thank you! Okay, back to what I was saying â
Was there a change in behavior when Luke and Nicola reached Italy? Yeah, actually, there kind of was.
By May 9, we had been gifted with a slew of material from Luke, Nicola, and the Bridgerton cast and, I must admit, those early interviews are some of the most entertaining of the tour. In the very beginning, Nicola appeared as the utmost professional â charming, intelligent, and witty at the right moments â and Luke played her likeable counterpart to âBook Colinâ perfection â bouncing between being awkwardly boyish and wickedly roguish, all while looking at Nicola like she had just served him homemade peanut butter crumble.
The two of them together, playing off each other, in my opinion, was better than Bridgerton Season 3 (you cannot beat the World Tour being 99% Luke and Nicola, with only a few random side characters taking up screentime). There was some major âElectric Loveâ radiating from those two throughout the tour, but it seemed very much heightened in the beginning (probably because they hadnât yet answered the same question 67 times). By the way, if you havenât heard that song by Børns, go have a listen. It will, at the very least â hopefully â put you in an upbeat mood for the day.
Now, where was I? Oh, yes â was there a change in behavior between Luke and Nicola when they reached Italy?
Absolutely.
Do I know why?
Absolutely not.
Perhaps Luke was bent because someone spilled his coffee, or Nicola was upset because her stylist made her to wear that little silver bow in her hair. In my opinion, the most intriguing part of Day 1 of the Italy press junket was that Luke and Nicola struggled with answering the question, âWhat is love?â I swear they both babbled on like two kids in debate class who hadnât bothered to read the material given to them before taking their respective podiums. They finally seemed to settle on Lukeâs âMaybe itâs, like, connection.â Well, they seemed to be missing the âconnectionâ that day.
Honestly, no one can explain their âdonât stand so close to meâ vibe during those first day interviews except Luke and Nicola. But, we can at least have some fun and speculate about it with a birdâs eye view. At this point, you should know that I love spreading the puzzle pieces out and seeing how they might all connect. Most people â when putting a puzzle together â start with the side pieces, right? Youâll get my joke in a moment (I hope).
In March 2024 â I donât know the specific date because my timeline is rather murky going back that far (I was unaware Lukola even existed!) â Luke traveled to Los Angeles for a photo spread with InStyle magazine. Iâve heard two versions of this story. The first being that Luke traveled to Los Angeles with Antonia alone; the second being that he traveled to Los Angeles with his friend group, which included Antonia. I couldnât tell you which is true, and it really doesnât matter because it doesnât necessarily add or take away from todayâs story.
Before I get started, I wanted to give a âhurrahâ to The-One-Whose-Group-Chat-Fills-in-Lots-of-Missing-Bits-for-Me-Including-the-Part-Where-Video-Footage-of-Antonia-in-Los-Angeles-Seemed-to-Indicate-a-Celebrity-Was-Not-the-Videographer-and-There-Were-So-Many-British-Accents-in-the-Background-One-Would-Fancy-a-Guess-She-was-Traveling-with-a-Group.
Moving alongâŚ
On April 7, 2024, Antonia posted a series of photographs and clips to her Instagram grid indicating she had been in Los Angeles, including one where she was laying on a blanket in front of the Griffith Observatory and one where she was sitting at a table marked with the number â95.â On April 14, she posted a second set of photographs, tagging her location as Beverly Hills, California and using âEnd of Beginningâ as her audio (yes, I side-eyed this choice of music so donât feel bad if you did as well). The second photo dump included her lounging on a rooftop.
Iâm not going to delve into posts made by Luke and Nicola during that timeframe. I mean, Iâm sure Nicolaâs comment, ââFriendsââŚsure Jan,â on Lukeâs April 11 reshared post about Bridgerton Season 3 was only meant to be applicable to Polin. And, if Luke wanted to use yellow and black hearts to represent the colors Nicola and he were wearing in his April 12 post, thatâs cool, too. And, I am definitely not going to speculate on Nicolaâs April 15 post (for Big Mood) that Luke liked, and she captioned, âI will bite off anything that dangles.â
By April 21, Luke and Nicola were in Australia at the World Premiere of Bridgerton. I am only going to provide a quick overview of Australia instead of a full-fledged recital because, at some point, I will almost certainly dedicate an entry to this country. Letâs start with Luke pulling off the hottest walk-up in Netflix human history (I mean, have you watched it in slow motion?). Then, we had the hard launch of the handholding business (because why again?). And, we had Luke tripping over his words, âWeâre very, like, givingâŚIâm not talking about those scenesâŚâ Oh, and Nicola telling an interviewer that, â[y]ou canât keep a good girl down,â and, in response, Lukeâs lips curling into a wicked-ass Cheshire cat's. We had them in the garden, with Nicola bending down to hug Luke after she had scratched/hit/petted his head. Perhaps I should not mention the possibility of a manâs shirt being visible on a bed behind Nicola (I said possibility not that it was). And, Nicola telling Luke, âYouâre the funnier one,â when he was concerned that perhaps Benedict was funnier than Colin. Then we had the âNicola-in-the-green-dressâ day where, as they were going down the steps, Luke seemed to instinctively reach for Nicolaâs hand, but she played it cool and took his arm instead. Oh, and that entire âgreen dressâ day in general (I mean, there was so much shit going on that day). And, best we do not forget Nicola saying, âthe best foundation for love is friendship,â which mirrored the bracelet âsomeoneâŚin Australiaâ gave Luke that read, âDo you believe the best foundation for love is friendship?â Because thatâs not suspicious at all. Alright, letâs get the fuck out of Australia â but not before I mention Nicola commenting on Lukeâs April 27 Instagram post with âReady for the next?â and Luke replying, âAbsolutely.â Yeah, yeah, yeah, their shenanigans in Australia expanded the USS Lukola tenfold.
Oh, also, let me throw this in here because, if you are a âring truther,â this fact plays a significant role in the Lukola timeline. If you do not know what a âring trutherâ is, thatâs perfectly fine. You can catch up by reading Entry 6 (The One Where I Explained the Claddagh Ring to My Dad) of my blog. I mentioned in Entry 6 that some Lukola sleuths have stated the metadata they pulled from the sketches of the Claddagh ring uploaded by Chupi indicate they were done as early as April 26. In other words, it means the Claddagh was likely commissioned between Australia and Italy. In fact, if we are to believe Chupi when it said it took four weeks to make the ring, then it had to have been commissioned by May 9, 2024, at the latest. Oh, lookie there, thatâs Day 1 of the Italy interviews.
But, before we get to May 9, letâs pause on April 29. That was the day Lukeâs InStyle spread was published â yes, the one I mentioned earlier. Luke has pictures from this photoshoot still on his Instagram grid â in fact, Nicola commented, âYess dude!!â on them â but those arenât the pictures I want to talk about. No, I want to talk about the pictures InStyle posted on its Instagram grid that day. These photographs came directly from Luke, which was confirmed by the InStyle article when it said, ââŚthe actor delighted the InStyle team by delivering the polaroid photos heâd taken for this story tucked oh-so-carefully in a little brown bag for safekeeping.â The pictures Luke provided, among others, included one where he was laying on a blanket in front of the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles; one where he was sitting at a table marked with the number â95;â and one where he is sitting in a lounge chair on a rooftop. If you want to see the pictures, InStyle still has them available â you just need to go through hundreds of posts to find them. Luke did not like this InStyle post, which was kind of odd because he was tagged in it, and they were reportedly his pictures.
Why did these InStyle polaroids seem so familiar?
Oh, thatâs right, because they were.
Remember that April 7 post of Antoniaâs I mentioned a bit ago? Yeah, the one where Antonia posted a bunch of random pictures from Los Angeles and â only after InStyle posted Lukeâs polaroids â fans realized Antonia had preemptively posted her version of some of Lukeâs polaroids.
I am not going to speculate too much about these pictures or their implications in this blog post, but these pictures may resurface in future posts because I find myself side-eyeing the fact they even exist. And, we should probably accept that Luke was aware of them before his pictures came out on April 29 because he threw a like on Antoniaâs April 7 post. Could it have been a âblindâ like? Sure, I guess, but the logical side of my brain says he probably looked through them at the time she posted. Letâs not worry too much about it right now, though.
After trying to write out my âgeneralâ opinion about the pictures several times, I finally decided that the best way I could articulate my thoughts was through the conversation I had with my father. Yes, Dear Dad returns again for another insightful Q&A.
I started by showing Luke and Antoniaâs three âmatchyâ pictures to my dad and then asked him to compare them. To be clear, the pictures were their respective Griffith Observatory, Table 95, and Rooftop Lounging pictures.
Me: âSo what do you think?â
Dad: âAbout what?â
Me: âUgh! Why did Antonia take those pictures?â
Dad: âWell, to show sheâs part of the âinâ crowd. The only reason I can see them being taken is if she was going to put them on the Internet.â
Me: âUhh, as a matter of fact, she did put them on the Internet! Approximately three weeks before Lukeâs were published.â
Dad: âSee! Iâm not as dumb as you think.â
Me: âWhatever. So, you really believe that? She took them to show people that she was, like, there?â
Dad: âYeah. Why else would she take them? Theyâre not the kind of photos youâd take normally. Whatâs she going to do, put them in an album and show her friends in five years and say, âLook, I sat in Lukeâs chair?â Who does that? Nobody. Plus, Lukeâs pictures look like they were taken with a polaroid camera and Antonia took hers with, I guess, a phone. Why use two different cameras? Again, it doesnât make sense. Seems to me like she knew what pictures he was taking, and she was trying to copy them so she could put them on the Internet.â
Thanks, Dad.
You do not have to accept my fatherâs thoughts on the photographs. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, I think we can meet in the middle and opine that, at a minimum, Antoniaâs pictures caused the weak Lukolas to jump overboard; at most, they gave some people stalker vibes; and somewhere in between, they introduced Antonia's negative influence over the fandom and what some may consider trolling behavior (even if it wasnât recognized then).
Now, before we land in Italy on May 9, letâs summarize what has happened during the preceding two months.
First, we had Luke traveling to Los Angeles in March with Antonia, either alone or as part of a friend group. Luke had pictures of himself taken while there.
Second, we had Antonia posting pictures in early April that would be linked directly to Lukeâs pictures by the end of the month.
Third, throughout the month of April, we had Luke and Nicola traveling together for the World Tour. We have all seen these interviews, and we have all formed independent opinions about them.
Fourth, based on Chupiâs own words, we know the Claddagh ring must have been commissioned no later than May 9.
Okay, now weâve reached May 9, Day 1 of the Italy press junket.
Besides the press interviews, what happened on that day?
Well, Antonia reposted Luke singing Coldplayâs âYellowâ to her TikTok account.
Uhh⌠Huh. Interesting.
I mean, itâs possible that this was just a coincidence and she just liked Lukeâs version of it. Or, itâs possible Antonia knew that âYellowâ was the Polin wedding song and she anticipated trolling Nicola and/or the fandom with it. But, if we believe she knew âYellowâ was the Polin wedding song, that means either Luke told her, or someone with that knowledge told her (i.e., someone from Lukeâs team or family/friend group). We also know that Luke mentioned this song in the May 16, 2022 Netflix Tudum article when Nicola and he were asked about their song choices for Season 3. Luke stated his frontrunner was âYellowâ by Coldplay âbecause of Penelopeâs dresses.â Regardless of why Antonia posted the song, I find it hard to imagine Netflix, Bridgerton, Shondaland, Nicola, or Luke were too impressed by Antonia resharing it on TikTok. I mean, at this point, Netflix & Co. would surely have been aware that Antoniaâs âcopycat postâ went over with the fandom like a wet blanket in December in Canada. I imagine some questions were being asked and Luke may very well have received a hand slap from Corporate â and maybe even from Nicola.
But, thatâs not the only thing that happened on May 9.
Luke posted his Homme magazine spread to his Instagram grid on that day, too. He captioned the post, âChatting through all things S3 with @hommeplusmag [o]ut next week x.â Nicola commented, âYessss,â and Luke tagged his post with the location of Hackney, London. That last part â about Luke tagging the location in Hackney â apparently sent the fandom into a deep-dive ofâŚNicolaâs backyard. Why? Because Nicola lives in Hackney (Nicola herself confirmed she lived in Hackney in a March 18, 2024 interview with Derry Now), and rumors started to circulate that Lukeâs pictures were taken at her home.
Hmm, I didnât realize May 9 was such a busy day, did you?
So, which came first â the chicken or the egg? Did Antonia repost âYellowâ to her TikTok before Luke posted his Homme in Hackney images to Instagram, or vice versa? Iâm sure someone out there has this information. The answer might help shine some light as to why Luke and Nicola seemed âoffâ in the early part of their Day 1 Italy interviews. But, then again, does the order really matter? Regardless of who posted first, it would seem to me that âYellowâ was a very possible culprit for the different energy on set that day.
That, or Luke really was peeved over someone spilling his coffee.

Break Point ft k. sakusa
synopsis: tennis!au -you shouldn't be letting your boyfriend's rival feel you up in the locker room, and you certainly shouldn't be getting on your knees for him, especially given the history between the two of you
warnings : mdni, smut, fem! bodied reader, reader has she/her pronouns, degradation, cheating, oral (m! recieving), public sex, pussy jobs, hair pulling, reader is called a good girl
song rec : fetish -selena gomez
"and we're back folks! that was some first set- of course, we are in the US Open semi-finals, and it is sakusa and terushima on the court!"
the crowd roars as you adjust your sunglasses and pick up your honey deuce to take a sip, eyes trained on terushima sitting on the bench with a towel over his head. unwillingly, you find your gaze pulled towards the player on the other side of the umpire's chair, sakusa kiyoomi uncapping a bottle of electrolytes before tilting his head back and bringing the bottle to his mouth. you take another sip, watching the strong column of his throat move as he gulps his water.
"this infamous rivalry's brought everyone together today. over in terushima's box, is, of course, his beautiful girlfriend- joined by his high-school friends!"
you raise your head and smile, raising your honey deuce as the cameras pan over to your seat at the commentator's words. in the row behind you terushima's friends holler and whistle, waving a banner with his face on it.
"terushima's partner is pretty private, so it's a real treat that we managed an interview with her before the match- she's had some fun stuff to say about this rivalry and today's match."
you watch as you pop up on the big screen, dressed in the blue and white dress you'd picked out specially for this match- makeup and hair fresher than it currently was. the string of diamonds around your throat winks in the light as you nod at whatever the interviewer was saying.
"what do you think about sakusa? he's given your boyfriend quite a good amount of grief this season."
the video-you laughs at the question, red lips curling upward. "well, he's been a household name for some time now. yuji thinks more about him than about me, if we're being frank."
"do you think his victories are earned? sakusa's won 5 out of the 6 times they've met so far, and their rivalry goes way back to their juniors days."
"sakusa's definitely a really good player, and he's improved a lot since his defeat at last year's wimbledon final. i- we, yuji and i both think he's someone to watch out for, especially if he can clean up his net play a little more. he, for sure, has the potential to surpass the big 3."
the interviewer raises her eyebrows at your admission, and Arthur Ashe clamors in real time. you sink your teeth into your lower lip, as the other screen shows sakusa's reaction to your words. as usual, the man is stoic, showing no signs of having heard your praise. however, his sharp eyes are focused on the screen showing your interview, having stopped all his inter-set preparations.
"and what about terushima? do you think he can surpass the big 3?"
you're silent for a touch too long before showering yuji with praise, however it doesn't seem like anyone except you had noticed the pause. yuji's grinning from his bench on the court making kissy faces at the screen. he has everyone's attention.
you swallow, shifting your focus back to sakusa, who's no longer looking at the screen, but has his eyes trained on you, a faint smirk evident on his face. well, that pause hadn't escaped everyone's notice. kissing your teeth, you avert your eyes- taking another sip of your honey deuce. arthur ashe titters one final time before silence settles again as the players take their positions, sakusa's serve.
"and at 144 mph that's this season's fastest serve yet! i would not want to be the one who faces that serve, that's for sure."
you lean forward, taking off your sunglasses as the men enter the fifth and final set, sakusa breaking in the first game itself. you, as well as the rest of the centre court, watch with bated breaths as the game gets tense- so focused that you completely miss the dark clouds rolling in and the thunder rumbling ominously. there's not a moment of notice as the sky opens up, the downpour brutal. fat, cold raindrops assault your senses as you scramble for cover- dress already sticking and hair frizzing. making your way down the stairs into the gallery, you hear the commentators announce the official postponement of the match.
going down a level further, you push open the double doors to reach the locker rooms. surprisingly, there's no one around. there's a clang of a locker closing somewhere, and you walk towards the sound- your heels clacking loudly. turning the corner, you freeze as a pale, muscular back- scattered with moles- comes into view. sakusa kiyoomi stands with his back to you, shirtless, with his shorts riding low and a towel slung over his shoulder. at your sharp intake he turns, hooded eyes pinning you in place.
"sorry, i um- i'll just-"
you shouldn't be here. (you've been here too many times to be anywhere else.)
he says nothing but keeps his eyes on you as he towels his hair. your gaze unconsciously strays to his biceps as they flex at the motion, before snapping back to his face. he stares at you for a moment longer, before throwing his towel back into the locker and slamming the door shut. you feel heat creeping up your cheeks as he turns to you again.
"why are you here again?"
"sorry, i just- i thought-"
he keeps quiet, cocking his head to the side, waiting for you to continue. you stammer once more before shutting up.
"sorry. i'll leave."
you feel a lump in your throat at his curt words, but you have no right to be upset. you know that very well. you're almost at the corner when his words cause you to stop.
"the big three?"
you pause, memories of younger kiyoomi talking about his dreams flashing through your mind. swallowing, you turn around.
"you know you could do it. coming from me it means nothing."
"nothing?"
you pause again, feeling your neck prickle with heat against his intense stare. he hasn't moved an inch, yet you feel cornered- like prey.
"it should mean nothing."
he scoffs at this, taking a step closer.
"is that what helps you sleep at night? do you say it before you slip your hand into your panties imagining it's my dick inside you, or do you say it after- as long as there's no guilty conscious right?"
you blink at his words, before retorting sharply, "kiyo you can't speak to me like that, watch your words-"
"so i'm kiyo again? what happened to sakusa? you said it so sweetly in the interview. i'm a regular at your perfect white picket fence household, right?"
you step back, hitting a locker, unaware that you'd been backing up. he's in front of you before you can blink, pressing up against you, one hand gripping your waist the other flat against the locker beside your head. leaning closer his breath fans across your face as he pants, still breathing deeply from his match.
"you show up- as you always do when he's playing against me- wearing the dress i bought you, the dress i fucked you in- wrapped in diamonds i bought you, diamonds that rest where my hands used to-
and that's fine. that's perfectly fine. but showing up here? in this locker room? and saying your words mean nothing to me?"
you whimper, eyes falling shut as he grips your face, smearing your lipstick with his thumb. the scent of his cologne mixed with his sweat crowds your senses, dimming them. slipping his thumb into your mouth he presses against your tongue. you obediently part your mouth, pressing your thighs to relieve some of the pressure. sakusa scoffs again, slotting his thigh between your legs, allowing you to press down and rut against him.
"what a slut, do you get wet like this for everyone? or am i just special baby? do you let every fucker who plays against your darling boyfriend feel you up in the locker room? does the idea of you getting fucked by someone he'll lose against turn him on too?"
your eyes roll back as you moan, sliding a hand to your breast, before it's snatched back by kiyoomi, pinned against the locker. his touch is too familiar for you to consider him as sakusa, he's always been your kiyo.
"you're going to get off humping my leg like a dog in heat baby, i know you can do it," he coos, grip on your face tightening.
you whimper at his words, grinding down harder. everything feels so hot, with kiyoomi pressing his body against you- weight heavy. his scent is everywhere.
"actually- i don't think you deserve that."
your eyes fly open as he shifts his thigh and moves away, leaving you cold and slumped against the lockers. you breathe heavily, fingers scrambling for purchase behind you to keep yourself upright.
you open your mouth to say something, anything- but you draw blank. what can you even say?
kiyoomi stands still in front of you, arms crossed- but with his shorts tenting it's clear he's not entirely unaffected. his dark eyes remain fixed on you, but he says nothing. the two of you remain suspended like this for a few heartbeats. you see his adam's apple bob as he swallows once, twice- before taking a step back.
"you should leave. he's probably waiting for you."
you should leave. he's definitely waiting for you.
you nod slowly, straightening your spine. taking a deep breath, you reach for your bag which you had dropped sometime during and dig through it for a tissue. your makeup must be a mess.
glancing back at kiyoomi you pause- watching as he sinks down on a bench and leans back to rest on his elbows. his legs part as he breathes, chest rising- erection still straining against his shorts.
the sight is so familiar, your heart aches. your mouth feels dry as he drops his head back, revealing the strong column of his neck.
your panties stick uncomfortably, pussy still throbbing. your breasts feel heavy as you drop your bag again, turning towards him. heat trickles down your spine as you reach for the zipper of your dress, unable to move your eyes from his physique. your dress pools by your feet as you step out of it, now dressed in nothing but your panties, heels, and his diamonds.
kiyoomi still hasn't moved.
teeth sinking into your lower lip, you reach to unbuckle your heels, your brain on autopilot. now barefoot, you pad towards kiyo, sinking to your knees in between his parted legs.
you should leave.
you reach forward to mouth at kiyo's erection, pressing open-mouthed kisses on his cock through the fabric. above you kiyo still hasn't moved, but he sighs, carding a hand through your hair. pressing a hand to his thigh for balance, you move to pull him out, continuing to mouth at his shaft. leaning forward you take him in your mouth, slowly easing him in until you feel him hit the back of your throat. eyes watering, you breath slowly, sucking him the way you know he likes it. you feel kiyo tug at your roots, and you look up at him, eyes locking. his eyes are hooded and impossibly dark, mouth bitten red as he pants.
"my pretty girl, so good for me, only for me," he slurs, grip on your hair tightening. you moan, taking him deeper, swallowing him. kiyo groans, head tipping back again. you slip your hand into your panties, desperate for some friction, moaning again. before you can move however, you find yourself being lifted straight up onto his lap.
now straddling him, your pussy slides against his dick, as you grasp his shoulders for purchase.
"you just couldn't stay away could you? what a filthy little whore. what would those reporters say if they could see you now, hmm? tennis's favourite girlfriend is nothing but a cock hungry slut, but not for her boyfriend, no- for her boyfriend's rival," he coos.
"kiyo, fuck," you whimper, everything is too much.
he moves you again, this time standing up to push you against the locker once again. your legs tremble as you lean back. he slaps your tits, as you jerk, gasping.
"kiyokiyokiyo, please," you whine, unsure what exactly you want him to do. yanking your panties down, he pumps his cock once, before tapping the head against your clit. bullying the head between your lips, he groans, rutting against you.
slapping your tits once again, he grips his cock, inhaling sharply- and he cums all over you pussy and panties. you whine again, reaching to pull his head down, needing to kiss him.
"fuck. fuck, you're so-," he pants into your neck. you nod deliriously, you need to cum so badly it hurts.
the doors clang loudly.
"yo, sakusa, you in here? the weather's cleared up, they're sayin' if it's cool with the both of us we can continue in 30 minutes."
the two of you spring apart, alarm bells ringing in your mind as you pull up your panties. rushing to your dress, you struggle to put it on.
kiyo shoots you one last look, before calling out, "sure man, you mind letting them know on my behalf? i'll be right up."
the footsteps stop just you're stumbling into your shoes.
"of course my guy, no problem."
the doors open again, and you sigh in relief.
"say, you wouldn't have seen my girl anywhere, would you? she's disappeared."
you freeze again, but sakusa's moving past you now, rounding the corner with his tennis bag hung over his shoulder.
"nah, haven't seen her."

Dean- When you were the only person he could let his walls down with
You werenât exactly a hunter but you also werenât exactly a civilian. You were⌠something else. You could shoot, recite an exorcism backwards and outdrink the most seasoned hunter but you also were stationary, paid your taxes, even had a retirement fund and to Dean, you were safe. And a damn good lay at that.
âThatâs it baby. Move those hips for me.â Your nails bit into the muscles of his chest as you lifted yourself up on shaky legs, then slammed back down onto his cock. Dean hissed and bit down on his lip, desperately trying to keep his eyes open to watch you fall apart just one more time before he succumbs to the blinding pleasure he could only find with you.
âItâs too much, Dean.â You wailed but continued to roll your hips downwards like you didnât even think of stopping. His hands clamped down on the meat of your plush thighs as you tightened impossibly around his thick cock.
âFuck, baby. I know youâre close; just come for me. Cum, and Iâll give you what you want.â He planted his feet onto your bed and thrust upwards, hitting that one spot inside you he knew made your brain turn into TV static. âThaaaaatâs it. Thatâs my girl.â He cooed as you slumped forwards, your mindless babbling only serving to spur him on even more.
You tucked your face into his neck, kissing and licking at his skin like you wanted to swallow him whole. Dean squeezed his eyes shut and pounded into you even deeper. Your soft body trembled against him as you tumbled into your final orgasm of the night, your cunt fluttering around him like it was made for him.
âDean. Cum inside me.â You managed to gasp out as you rode the last waves of your high. Dean snarled and pushed himself in as deep as he could go as the dam finally broke and he succumbed to his own end. You moaned softly at the feeling of his cum filling you up.Â
Dean relaxed back down into the mattress, your body a comfortable weight on top of his, easing away the pain inside him. He ran his hand down the length of your back, coming to rest on the gentle swell of your ass. âYou good sweetheart?â
A quiet giggle vibrated through your chest. âI think I saw god, I am more than good Deanie.â
He rolled his eyes as he guided you to lay down next to him, his softening cock slipping from your warm walls. âHow many times have I told you not to call me that?â
âHow many times have I told you not to wear your boots in the house?â You retorted with a jab to his ribs, quickly followed by a loving kiss against his lips. His heart skipped a beat as he wrapped a strong arm around your thick waist, pressing deeper into the kiss. You let out a pleased sound that made his spent cock twitch in interest.
But all too soon, you pulled away and laid your head down on his shoulder.
It felt so domestic, so real. If he just shut his eyes he could almost imagine that this was your shared home; a place for him to just be without the worry of saving the world or protecting Sammy, that maybe he could have a lawn to mow and tedious chores that he would be happy to do for you. He wished he could wake up in this bed every day instead of once or twice in a blue moon when hunting had dried up or he needed more supplies from your shop for hunters.
âDo you remember the day we met?â His voice echoed through the small bedroom, soaking into the old wallpaper that you refused to let him replace, claiming that it was just fine the way it was.
You hummed and glanced up at him, your eyes still hazy from an entire afternoon of âI missed you but Iâm not going to say it out loudâ sex. Dean cupped your full cheek.
ââCourse I do. You broke into my shop at 4 in the morning and I almost shot you.â
âWe still need to work on that aim of yours sweetheart.â You scoffed but snuggled closer to him, the sweet smell of your skin almost getting overwhelming. Your fingers traced over the scars along his torso, never flinching away or touching them like you wished they werenât there in the first place. You were mapping out the story of him without question or hesitation.
âYeah well why would I need to do that if I have you here to protect me?â You said it like it was a fact, that you never doubted he would come to your rescue at a moment's notice. âIâve got Dean Winchester in my bed, Iâm the safest girl in the world.â
His breath caught but before you could notice, he gave you that smirk that got him there in the first place and drawled out a low: âYeah you do sweetheart.â You visibly flustered, burying your face into his arm to escape the heat of his gaze.Â
âYouâre always so mean to me.â His laugh bounced your head up and down. You began to giggle, unable to help yourself, and slid your arm beneath his back so you could wrap your body around him. Electricity followed your touch, his nerves sparking to life like the feeling of stepping out from the darkness into the sun.
God I love her.
The thought slammed into his chest, briefly knocking the air from his lungs. He expected a sense of panic, maybe dread, but all he felt was a sense of calm that settled against his soul. Dean just pulled you tighter against him and pressed a lingering kiss to the crown of your head. You returned it with a soft peck right above his heart.
He didnât want to run from this, not this time. You were everything to him and he wanted to stay right here, even if he knew he didnât deserve it. Your breathing evened out as you succumbed to some much-needed sleep.
Maybe staying another few days wouldnât be so bad, Sammy kept telling him he needed a vacation.
Sam- When you were kind to him even after he broke your heart
Samâs voice had gone hoarse over an hour ago but they still hadnât let him out. He knew that they wouldnât but still he had begged and pleaded, even succumbed to tears yet there was no answer from outside the heavy iron door.Â
He slumped back against the cot in the centre of the room, the sharp metal scraped against his back but it was nothing compared to the pain he felt in every waking moment. The cold concrete beneath him did nothing to soothe the burning inside of him.Â
âPlease.â The word was barely even audible, escaping his lungs with little more than a whimper. Sam let his head fall back onto the thin mattress.
As soon as the door was slammed shut, all he felt was blinding rage. Didnât they understand why he was doing this? The blood gave him the power they needed to help people! But when hours had passed without so much as a hint that they even heard him, the anger melted away into a sort of numbness. Dean and Bobby had tricked him into this, you had tricked him.
It was your face that he saw last as the door was shut. Your lips were pulled downwards, your eyes rimmed with red, your shoulders slumped. You had looked like you were in mourning. Guilt curled in his stomach, just like every other time he looked at you since the day he left for Stanford. But this time, the sour taste of betrayal filled his mouth like bile.
You were turning your back on him, siding with his brother when all he wanted to do was to make the world safer, for you.Â
Sam forced himself to take a deep breath, even as his body screamed with the ache of movement. The air was stale and settled heavily onto his chest but he was grateful to feel it, he was grateful to feel anything besides the searing pain of his nerves. This was the first break from the hallucinations heâd had in days, or weeks, time, just like everything else, had no meaning within the iron walls that enclosed him.
The cotton of his shirt felt like it was rubbing his sensitive skin raw but to take it off meant moving and he was far too tired to withstand the pain anymore. His head turned, letting the right half of his face press into the cot. The single flat sheet on the bed smelt of the flowery laundry detergent that you always used, it made something inside of him twist sickeningly.
A single tear slipped down his cheek.
âSam?â His eyes squeezed shut.
âPlease not again. Please donât hurt me again.â He begged with broken words. He cringed at the sound of metal scraping against concrete. He couldnât do it again, he wouldnât fight it. Sam was going to let the pain take him.
Soft footsteps drew closer. He braced himself for the first strike. Would it be the sharp pinch of a scalpel or the burn of a propane torch? Or would it be the voices of people he loved reminding him of just how tainted he was? How evil?Â
He whimpered as they stopped right beside him. There was a beat, then two, then the gentle whoosh of air as someone kneeled down beside him.Â
âSam.â Your voice washed over him like a gentle breeze, easing the stiffness in his bones. âSam? Can you look at me?â He wanted to say no, to yell at you to get out and leave him alone like you did when you first locked him in here but the exhaustion in your tone made him crack open one of his eyes.
You sat on your knees mere inches from him, letting him see you in stark detail. One of his flannels hung from your shoulders partially concealing the form-fitting tank top you wore beneath it. Normally, his heart would have skipped a beat seeing you wear his clothes, but now it only reminded him of why you stopped. Bruise-like dark bags marred your full cheeks, your eyes blood-shot.
âOh Sammy. I-â Your voice cracked. You reached for him but quickly thought better of it, your hand dropped back down to your side where there was a bucket of water now on the ground. âYou know you canât come out yet but I thought you might like to clean up a bit, maybe eat something that isnât dried or jerkied.âÂ
Sam opened his other eye but made no other efforts to move. You sighed, your shoulders dropping as you sat back on your heels. âWill you let me wash your hair and change your clothes at least? I bought the softest ones I could find and even washed them in the fabric softener Dean keeps secretly buying.â Your lips quirked up, attempting some sort of reaction from him.
You looked so worn out, Sam wondered if you had sat right outside the door waiting for him to stop screaming. His head bobbed and the hardness in your gaze eased. âThank you. Iâll be as gentle as I can, squeeze my leg if you want me to stop.â
He bit back a whimper as you guided him to the floor. His broad shoulders rested across your plump thighs, letting his head hang above the floor. You kept one hand beneath his neck, taking far more of his weight than he would be willing to admit, and reached for the small plastic cup floating at the top of the bucket.Â
His fingers curled around your knee, his short nails digging into the denim as you poured a cup full of hot water over the crown of his head. You paused for a moment but continued when Sam loosened his grip.Â
As you placed the cup to the side and retrieved a small bottle of fragrance-free shampoo, he let his eyes shut once more, this time, his mind wandering to the last time the two of you had spoken.
It had been in the days after Dean died. You refused to break down in the face of losing your best friend, the man that taught you to drive, to throw a proper punch. You wanted to stay strong for Sam and for Bobby but Sam knew it wouldnât last long.Â
You had been slowly, methodically cleaning Baby, just like Dean taught you to when the younger Winchester approached you with a bowed head and a duffle bag on his shoulder. Just like the day he left for college.
You didnât wait for his excuses.
âYouâre leaving?â You said but it didnât sound like you, not really. Sam didnât answer and you scoffed, throwing the sponge youâd been using onto the dusty driveway. âJust like that, running off days after-â Your breath caught but you swallowed down your tears, âWhat are you planning, Sam? You know selling your soul wonât work, weâve already tried that.â
Sam huffed and pulled the strap of the bag higher on his shoulder. âIâve got a friend who might know a way to get him back.â
He shouldâve seen the way your back straightened as your body went stiff. âA âfriendâ?â
âShe knows a lot about hell and right now Iâll try anything to bring him back.â And then he did something truly stupid. âUnlike you.âÂ
Silence crashed down around you like a falling building, immediately filling the air with a tension so thick Sam could almost choke on it. He watched your shoulders draw up, your hackles raised before your chest expanded fully and you exhaled through your nose.
âThen I wonât stop you. I trust you Sam but I donât trust Ruby and I wonât be around forever to fix up your messes, not anymore. Iâm worth a hell of a lot more than just being the girl you always leave behind but keep running back to.â You fished Babyâs keys from your front pocket, tossing them at Sam as you passed.
âRubyâs dead.â
âIs she?â You shot him a look before opening Bobbyâs front door. âDonât get yourself killed. Lose my number.â The door slammed behind you and suddenly Sam felt like he was making the wrong decision, again.
You ran a hand through his hair, letting the shampoo run through your fingers as you carefully washed it away with the lukewarm water and with it, you washed away his pain. He turned his head into your hand, soaking up every ounce of touch you were willing to give him. Itâd been so long since he had felt anything other than lust or hurt pressed to his body.Â
You refused to meet his gaze, not that he could blame you after everything he had done, but he wanted so badly to look into those perfect e/câs even just one more time. To feel that peace and acceptance that had always swirled within the deep colour of your irises.Â
Suddenly, all Sam wanted to do was curl up in your lap and cry. Heâd spent so many years taking your warmth for granted and now, after months of being denied even a sliver of your presence, he couldnât imagine ever being away from you again. He wanted to prove to you that you were worth staying for, you were worth everything to him, but all he could do was let you care for him with hesitant hands.
He loved you, he always had, even when he was trying to run away from his life, even as he fell in love with someone else. It was you that kept him from falling into that well of darkness that would be so easy to slip into. You with your sass and your gentleness, your softness and your bite, your laughter and your grief. He loved you.
But how could you ever love him back?
Castiel- When you made him remember why he loved humanity in the first place
It was the sound of crying that drew Castiel to the playground across the street from the motel you had been camped out at. It wasnât an unfamiliar sound to the angel given his age and how many prayers heâd heard throughout his existence, but the pitch was so high, so truly filled with fear that he didnât hesitate to follow it.
âAngel? Where are you going?â He glanced back at you as you were pulling on your boots.
âThereâs crying.â He said simply before descending the concrete steps to the ground floor. You let out a noise like a scoff and scrambled after him, barely grabbing the room key and your hunting knife before the heavy door slammed shut.
âCas!â His pace didnât falter as the crying picked up in intensity but he was confident you were following close behind him. His blue eyes flicked over the colourful plastic structures, expecting some siren or ghost to pop out at him. The weight of the angle blade against his forearm and your steady footsteps behind him reminded Castiel that he would not fight this battle alone.
He slowly rounded the bright yellow twisty slide just as you skidded to a halt a step behind him. Thankfully, you remained silent, a palm pressed to his back to remind him that you had him covered. The crying was louder now, though it did not sound like it was from any creature he had encountered before.Â
There was a shadow at the edge of the monkey bars. Castielâs blade dropped silently from his sleeve, sliding perfectly into his grip. He took a single stride forwards, ready to attack before it could when your fingers suddenly snagged the back of his trenchcoat.
âItâs a kid.â You breathed, he imagined it was out of relief but your human emotions always confused him. You slid the knife into the sheath you kept at the small of your back, tugging down your shirt so it was completely hidden as you cautiously approached the small figure curled up in the wood chips.
âHi sweetie, are you ok?â Your voice dripped with sweetness, like he remembered syrup to taste like. You leaned forwards, your shoulders dropped as low as they could go.
The crying stopped but small hiccups still echoed through the maze of playground structures. The sun had been steadily setting and now sat just above the horizon, the darkness creeping in.Â
Castiel watched closely as you squatted a foot away from the child, a soft smile on your face. âAre you lost?â The child finally looked up, their eyes wide and sparkling with tears in the low light of the evening. They nodded.
âCan we help you find your parents?â Their nodding got quicker and they reached out their arms to you. Your smile grew wider as you stood up, easily pulling them up and resting them on your wide hip. You turned back to face Castiel, a hand rubbing up and down the childâs back.
They mustâve been only 4 or 5 and wearing an outfit that was far from appropriate for the dropping temperature. âWeâre going to go to the police station, I bet your parents are waiting there for you.â They looked up at you, still silent, but now clinging to your t-shirt in a way that made Castielâs heart inexplicably skip a beat.
âThis is my friend Cas,â You leaned closer to their little ear and loudly whispered the next part, âHeâs an angel.â The childâs eyes widened and their head snapped around to look at him. Cas stepped closer, the child didnât flinch.
âI am and so is she, thatâs how she was able to find you.â He could almost feel the heat from your cheeks even feet away but still the child seemed convinced.Â
âReally?â You hiked them up higher on your hip, your arm wrapping tighter around their little body to keep them warm.
âReally really. Now why donât we get you back home?â They rested their head beneath your jaw and nodded, snuggling closer to your soft body.Â
Cas dutifully followed you as you walked out of the park, watching the child bounce with each of your steps. You chattered away about things you were seeing around the street, your voice filling the silence like a white noise machine. Cas could feel the calmness radiating from the child and it warmed something long forgotten inside of him.
You had no duty to this child, nor any other person that you saved and he knew that you would receive no thanks for your actions but yet you still did them. You threw yourself into harmâs way to protect complete strangers from things they could not possibly understand. You had once confided in the angel that you had been pressured into hunting but you had stopped trying to run away from it long ago.
Heâd felt anger for you, just the same as he felt for the Winchesters and all the other unfortunate children who never had a choice. He felt angry for himself, at humanity.
But seeing you now, caring for this child like they were your own, Castiel understood why you stayed. You didnât do it for the glory of saying you saved the world, nor for some duty bestowed to you by your parents, it was because you cared and because you knew what evil was.Â
The near empty streets soon gave way to rows of shops and townhouses, leading directly to the lit up police station only a few blocks away. The child started to fidget against you as they began to recognise their surroundings, making you laugh quietly. âI know sweetie! Weâre almost there. Youâre so close.â
You came to a stop right at the entrance. âYou can go right in and tell them your name and that you were lost.â They nodded dutifully while you carefully lowered them to their feet. âOk sweetie, you were so brave today but make sure you stay with your parents next time.â You ran a hand over their head and stod to your full height.
They looked at you and Castiel before gracing you with a toothy grin. âThank you nice angels!â Then they threw open the glass door and rushed inside just as two grown ups turned the corner behind the reception desk. They fell to their knees, catching the little one in their arms.
Something warm brushed the side of his hand, making Castiel tear his eyes away from the scene in front of him. You took his hand into your own, your eyes shimmering with tears. You didnât say anything and he found that no words were needed.
Tomorrow, he would tell you how incredible you were, that you were what angels should be and that he was feeling something for you that he never thought he could ever experience. But for right now, he wanted to watch this child reunite with the people that loved them most while the chill of the night and the monsters in it were kept at bay by the brilliance of your soul.
