Hot take and not to be a killjoy or the shipping police but people treating Viktor or Jinx's aroace headcanons as if they were canon is not the revolutionary take people think it is.

Headcanons are always all right but we have to acknowledge that they are somehow damaging when they apply to stereotypes. It might not be the case for everyone but most of the time people unconsciously assume that disability/mental illness=asexuality. These headcanons erase the freedom of attraction from people who are already seen as unable to have sexual/romantic experiences/desires, when it's completely untrue and harmful.

You can headcanon Viktor and Jinx as aroace, but I have seen people changing their minds once Viktor is no longer disabled (s2 with all of his other forms) and Jinx is no longer as mentally ill (alternate universe Powder). And it speaks wonders of how people see these characters.

"I never thought about Jinx being able to feel romantic/sexual attraction until s2!" To believe she's actually only capable of that when she's not "damaged" is incredibly disturbing. Especially since Jinx has always had a bit of a flirty personality too.

"I've always seen Viktor as asexual, I don't know why!" That's fine. You can headcanon him as ace. But I believe there is a reason behind it, most of the time, if for some inexplicable reason the "vibes" of the disabled character are making you think he's ace.

I say all of this being aroaspec myself, by the way. Headcanon all you want but going to people's posts commenting how "it's weird for you that they have romantic/sexual plots when they're clearly aroace" is not a win at all. It's a headcanon, after all, and it should be treated as such, and that's fine. But it also is damaging to spread stereotypes like these.

Of course the disabled character is asexual. Of course the mentally ill character is aromantic. It's not as revolutionary as you might think, tbh.

Fandom is not activism and it's all right to have any headcanons you want BUT some of them are filled with damaging stuff and perhaps we should look into ourselves more before treating these assumptions as something canon.

the thing that drives me sooo crazy about the jinx/isha/cait/vi confrontation is that for vi, it was a lose-lose situation. either caitlyn misses & accidentally hits isha (child witnesses enforcer violence), or caitlyn kills jinx in front of a child who cares for her (child STILL witnesses enforcer violence). Either situation parallels vi’s own past trauma. In that moment, it wasnt about jinx (at least not entirely). It was about vi’s catalyst for violent change about to be recreated and forced upon this child. Caitlyn said she understood how vi felt seeing her parents die, but demonstrated in this moment that she doesnt and literally CANT. caitlyn has never been on the other side or enforcer violence. the child didnt even compute to her—isha was just an obstacle to be avoided, not a person that will carry this experience forever. But vi’s been on the wrong end of a gun. She understood that no matter what, no matter who got hit, if she allowed caitlyn to shoot, vi would be recreating her own trauma. Not trying to start anything but like. The amount of arcane fans that genuinely believe Jayce only cares abt Viktor and completely push Mel to the side or even forget she completely EXISTS is. Baffling

maybe this an unpopular opinion on here, but i really don’t like how some people write sevika like a brute. angry, short tempered, like borderline abusive and just mean, manipulative and awful.

it kind of reeks of racism because she’s a brown woman and she has muscle, she’s buff and naturally tall and big and standoffish. but that doesn’t mean she’s abusive, or she uses women just for her satisfaction.

i know she’s a character, but i read a thread of sevika’s name meaning, and i just think that having that information with knowing some people out there write her like an abusive woman just makes me sad for her. we don’t have enough information or backstory on her in the first place — why make her an abuser?

maybe this is just me, i’ve been on this site for so long and have seen so many different kind of awful takes. this kind isn’t the first, and it sort of reminds me of the way some people treat bucky barnes, like he’s abusive and mean bc of how he looks and how he was exploited (not saying the same for sevika. just similar attributes ive noticed)

anyways, let’s stop giving sevika abusive and mean head-canon — she would not ignore you for days on end if she made at you, and she wouldn’t take out her anger on your body or cross your boundary of saying the word no
