I don't really like how so many people who were previously agreeing that AI art is theft are alright with palworld because it's kinda-theft but from a big company. I also think palworld sets a pretty bleak precedent.

edit at the top so I'm not misunderstood: palworld is not made by AI, but the dev Takuro Mizobe is very open about his support for it, and is morally on the side of borrowing heavily from what is popular. (link to his words further down)

I think people are missing the point with the arguments. The problem isn't that it's plagiarizing from Nintendo, which I also don't care about, but that the dev doesn't really mind about originality and about mimicking what's popular ( https://www.siliconera.com/how-does-the-palworld-ceo-feel-about-ai/ ). his other planned games are heavily inspired by others too (from hollow knight, for example). It isn't about who is plagiarized from, but the precedent set.

And I'm also seeing 'but it's really fun/I don't care because it's much more fun than pokemon'. Also not really the point - and possibly even the moral challenge here. If a bit of fun in a game is more important to you than the moral principle of avoiding financially supporting ai tech bros, I can't tell anyone not to - and if it turns out that enough people are totally okay with it and will give them money despite some hang ups, that's the win to them and they'll continue - and I suspect it will be!

For me, the dev's opinions and value of other people's creations is obviously little, and I want nothing to do with that. I also accept I seem to be in the minority with it; ultimately, you vote with your wallet with this kind of stuff.

FURTHER EDIT: I do kind of have to respect Takuro Mizobe for his honestly though LMAO. "I don't really care about originality, I'm just going to take what's popular so lots of people play it" I mean he's playing with legal fire isn't he, as long as he walks the tightrope of plagiarizing pokemon in-game models and changing them JUST ENOUGH to avoid being sued

Ultimately he is not really evil, realistically no company will lose money at this stage, but personally I'd rather play original games that aren't purposefully mashed up and regurgitated versions of others

As someone who can recognize it quickly when ppl are trying to gaslight, the epilogue and specially bonus is on high level of gaslighting if you know what I mean lmaoooo

post about amphetamines and ensuing thread about how "ADHD people just feel normal on stimulants" is anecdotally true but not necessarily scientifically true on my dash and I'm just thinking about that first time that I tried meth with Sigma and we just both hyperfocused on our computers the entire time (they do have ADHD but I do not), or how I used to take Adderalls for the wakefulness and euphoria yes but also because I felt like it was easier to ride the strange winding pathways of my cognition to a place where they'd end up as a fic or some other project rather than just petering out because I couldn't keep up/got distracted by something else/got intimidated by the breadth of my thoughts

which I think is what the euphoria was actually related to. it wasn't just a direct result of Having Consumed An Substance, it was the exhilarating feeling of riding those strange winding pathways to wherever they wanted to take me, and not falling out of the train and landing unceremoniously on the side of the tracks with nothing to show for my grandiose thinking except some fragmented concepts

and to me, that's... therapeutic. that's a therapeutic experience, to be fully present in and engaged with my own mind. to feel centered and yet expansive, to be unbowed by anxiety, to see an end goal (a finished thing, in all its weird glory) and be inexorably propelled towards it by my own steam.

but I don't have ADHD. so I guess I'm just Being High, by this dichotomy ("people with ADHD on amphetamines are experiencing therapeutic effects" / "people without ADHD on amphetamines are experiencing recreational effects"). but it doesn't seem fair to make such a flat division, or to even assume that what people think of as "recreational highs" aren't therapeutic in some way (see also: the wide variance in how people respond to THC)

anyway tl;dr the ever-evolving wars on drugs really decimated how we think about the interactions between our bodies and the substances we put into it

#like there is no fucking way i can walk into a psych's office and be like ''ok is there any way i can get like. as-needed low-dose stims''#bc to them that's just ''drug seeking behaviour'' like yeah i'm drug seeking. bc sometimes i want to write a fucking fic #or do some other project that requires a certain kind of focus from me that it's hard for me to summon at will #and like i think the way medical professionals treat people with adhd when they're just trying to be medicated #has created this divide where they're inclined to get mad at people like me for making it harder for them to get their medication #when in fact it isn't people like me or even people who are purely recreationally interested in stims #it's the fucking system. which sees ALL of us as shiftless manipulative addicts #i have a lot of disjointed but passionate thoughts about this lmao. this isn't even the full tip of the iceberg let alone the rest of it #singularity.txt

I've just been reminded that I made an AMV about Todoroki 5 years ago. I never uploaded it publicly bc it was 'unfinished' as it didn't have the final encounter I wanted to include (the fight with All for One). It is 2 minutes and 45 seconds long, the first time I'd ever edited video, and with the benefit of experience I can say it slaps! I wish I'd known to be proud at the time. I'm proud now.

I'm considering finishing this (knowing how to edit now, the main time constraint is rewatching the show lol) but regardless I wanted to share it, in its silly frozen 5-year-old wip automatic-thumbnail form:

Okay, but also the composition of Epic? It’s so good! Like timing the beats of the music in Survive to coincide with the deaths. The musical motif representing Athena showing up, and then the intro and outro to indicate that it’s a mental conversation.

Not to mention that there’s the way that he’s releasing each saga independently. In a culture dominated by binge consumption, it’s really cool to be able to get to listen to each individual saga and sit with it and replay it before moving on to the next one. You can actually take your time, which is great!

Like the musical is just so good and you can tell how much of a passion project it is!! Especially because it started off as one guy as an independent project and how much it’s grown over the past year or two into its own community and how he encourages fans’ involvement and passion. I just really love Epic the Musical, and I think it’s gonna be a must-have on any Greek mythology musical lists!!

My friend's experiences with his graduation project (my friend finished all the backend stuff while the only thing his partner did is like.... a login page where all the input fields and buttons spill out of the div) inspired me to work on the frontend shit today again <3

From the corner of your eye, you catch the bouquet of blue roses on the table, but it's his face that holds your focus as he leans in to kiss you again. But then his phone rings.
