do not let caseys sunshiness distract you from the fact that she is just as much emotionally constipated as ludger.
#academy's undercover professor spoilers#academy's undercover professor#casey selmore#the fact that casey has never told anyone including betty and terinna about delica/memory storming events is so wild to me#like girlie why r u suffering from all that by urself#ppl hating on casey for having negative EQ but that only reflects how much emotional support she usually gets from others#case in point: marias selmore#wouldnt surprise me if casey has never trusted to emotionally open up to anyone ever again when its her own family treating her like that#in her entire life casey is close to only 4 ppl but they are either:#1) her sister who historically sucks#2) bestie no. 1 who is almost always swarmed with work#3) bestie no. 2 who once again gave her trust and abandonment issues#4) bestie no. 3 who is not even a human but an automaton also learning how to deal with her own emotions#not to mention to maintain her reputation as a renowned detective she must have been neglecting her own emotional needs#casey selmore my beloved just because you dont look at it doesnt mean it is not there#casey tryna brush off her emotions after the memory storming and seek to solve the problem logically like a thinker she is but#she didnt realise that she was just delaying the inevitable and so the basara arc hit her like a truck + left her bedridden for a month 💀#caseys apologies to ludger only really solved the problem on logical terms#but there is never any emotional closure between them bc they are both painfully emotionally constipated so back to suffering we go 💀💀💀#lesson learnt from ludgercasey angst galore: stop trying to solve emotional problems with logics

while i am spewing my takes, might as well give my academia one.
i think that the culture of trigger warnings in social spheres is great. i really do. i think it’s awesome to know what might be coming and to help people feel more prepared to confront difficult topics... all that being said... i think it did some intense damage to academia in regards to reading.
to go into an academic setting and complain in front of the class to the professor about the book he’s chosen to use as course material for the basis of our modeling, stating that the book itself is triggering and that he should provide parts that can be skipped over... feels absurd. this is a college, upper division course. we’ve all been in college for SEVERAL years if we are taking this course. by now, you should know and understand that courses often include potentially triggering topics.
that aside, trigger warnings in an academic setting are a courtesy and not a requirement. if you have triggers, whether they be common or uncommon, it is on you alone to check for yourself if the book has triggering content and then reach out to your professor on your own time to see if it would be possible to provide a trigger warning / work out some kind of alternative. your triggers are not anyone else’s responsibility, which sounds like a tough pill to swallow but it’s true.
the syllabus actually INCLUDES the warning that some topics discussed may be upsetting. they always do because academia (especially creative academia) deals HEAVILY in those topics and uses them as a point of learning and discussion. to go to a professor in front of the entirety of the class and be rude about the content of a book (the book is dawn by octavia butler, mind you. a black, lesbian author whose work is famous for it’s masterful navigation of topics regarding oppression) required in the course syllabus because the syllabus does not include explicit trigger warnings.. is remarkably unprofessional and a gross misunderstanding of the way books and academia work. then, to insinuate that the triggering topics of the book (which is.. as i understand it.. a lot of it) don’t matter BECAUSE they may be triggering is a gross misunderstanding of the book content itself.
if you are in college—in academia—engaging with texts.. it is (i’d venture) common sense that you will encounter uncomfortable and potentially upsetting things. if you have triggers, it’s on you to be proactive about it and figure out alternatives for yourself with the professor. to take away a chunk of class time arguing that the trigger warning is not enough when there is a clear statement in the syllabus that states “as this is an upper division level, university course, it is likely this class will include content that some people may find upsetting”.. feels absolutely absurd to me. ask in private. email the professor for accommodations.
anyway... all of this to say that while triggers are common practice online.. they are not in the world and while they are useful, they are not requirements. you’re responsible for yourself and your own triggers. .

there's a name of an actor that i always misremember as another name which is of my friends stepmom because the first and last are both so similar but like one letter off and i was just reading an article that i guess somehow made a printing error where they meant to put the actors name and instead put my friends stepmoms name and im just so tickled. im not the only one to ever make this mistake. thedirect.com also did that

Why is it always “dazai is not a canon sexist nor he objectify women cope” in my inbox and never “hey do you want to discuss what the inherent morality of man is like till we both pass out discussing the inherent morality of man is fun”

sometimes people on rate my professors are just wrong
#this is about my one german prof who kinda looks like ben shapiro#no he's not that amazing of a prof tbh but he's nice and if you made an effort you could actually learn a lot from him#not necessarily in a regular academic setting but just like..in general by talking to him and shit#he's a lovely brilliant man and i strongly disagree with his rate on this website based on my own experience and talking to other people#we in the history and/or medieval studies programs at uni love him! ok maybe he kinda sucks as a college professor#so what? he's still smarter and more interesting than your ugly ass. and probably nicer tbh#he almost called an ambulance for me this one time! and then got me water and then gave me an A for my not that good oral presentation!#and did so many things that made him stand out with so many of my classmates AND other profs and TAs#like once one of my TA legit went on a whole tangent on how this man knows everything about everything and everyone who knows him agreed#and that one TA is extremely aloof and don't appears to care about like...anything.. so it really means a lot#maybe if y'all commenting had read his syllabus before asking him dumbass questions y'all wouldn't be giving him 2 on rate my teachers smh#like he's european! german even!! i know y'all are soft as hell i'm québécoise too so but he comes from a land where it's normal..#to tell dumbasses that they're being dumb#some of y'all (including myself) need to hear it the fuck?#y'all are paying to be in college wouldn't you rather hear the truth??

I live in a boring-ass suburb right outside of a city that has all the actual fun things to do in it but it's still a good twenty- thirty minute drive to do anything there which is not something I want to do every single time I feel like going out so I've been exploring my boring ass suburb and it turns out THERE ARE A TON OF THINGS TO DO HERE TOO THAT AREN'T JUST GOING TO THE MOVIES, we have a boba shop, several small boutiques, an Italian catering restaurant (that still does normal delivery for smaller orders), so many parks, a bookstore, like three antique shops and a lot of other places that I would have never discovered had I stayed in the mentality that that my boring-ass suburb was well... boring
And it was pretty great for a while
Now
the locally owned theatre was bought out by a chain and they got rid of the arcade in the front, replaced it with a bar
two of the small boutiques have closed their doors (while you can still shop online for one of them, it's not the same)
the Italian catering place only does pizza deliveries now cause not enough people were ordering their other menu items
one of those antique places is getting emptier every year cause not enough people are renting space there anymore
and now this morning I discovered that my favorite place in town- a small cafe with barely any parking out front, prices that were too high for me to justify getting one item from there more than once a month (like 7 bucks for a single cupcake), and the best frosting I have ever tried on any dessert in my life (and I've had pastries in Spain, New York City, Guatemala) just permanently closed their doors cause the owner died
and we have a new target being built that will include a strip mall that already has chain stores planned to the square foot
I'm really scared for what we have left
