caught between goodbye and I love you
DickKory | Pining | Eventual smut | Two shots | Post season 3 AU
Chapter 1: My heart is a sad affair
Nobody could say he didn't have been trying. Well, they could but it wouldn't be true.
Even though Bruce had made sure Dick knew how to attract the female attention, nobody told him what to do when it didn’t work as planned. Or how to stanch the wound.
Hell, Bruce made sure he could seduce anyone that could be seduced. "It is a very useful skill to have in your utility belt, Chum" he said then. But it didn't mean Dick didn’t pray for the sweet release of death back then when he was being forced to have seduction lessons under Alfred's or worse, Selina's tutelage.
He should have payed more attention to when they broke up, not that he’d have learnt something useful. They always got back together. He and Kory on other hand…
Well, been taught how to seduce someone for ulterior motives didn’t mean he knew what to do when his goal was not mission oriented. Usually in a mission, after the seduction part was over, even if he had to date the person for more than one night, he had a script and a clear goal. But what if there was no mission? What if he had hopes instead of goals? What to do without no script to follow? No set of rules to guide him?
And he was especially bad when he genuinely cared, never being able to judge if he was trying too hard or too little, usually finding himself overcome with anxiety which resulted into pushing the object of his affections away in the long run. That happened to Dawn, to Babs, hell, despite being a completely different kind of relationship it almost happened with Rachel and Gar too. Thank goodness his children were way more forgiving.
Since Dawn was gone for good and he and Babs had broke up again after deluding themselves for a whole five minutes that their childhood trauma bonded romance could have a last hurrah. He was back to reality. The depressing reality that he, to his absolute despair, cared for Kory, so much, too much, more than he had thought that he ever could for anyone.
Read on AO3
Despite all his overthinking tendencies, all his overplanning, all his precautions, he really didn’t see that coming. Of course, he was aware he was attracted to her from day one, it was nothing alarming back then, at least in the beginning. It hurt when she told him she needed to find out who she was before it got too serious, but he understood, and it was fine. They had time. And time they had, after their reunion, raising a household together, his physical attraction to her remained, and new set of feelings started breeding from their partnership. Something way more aggravating than the constant desire to fuck her brains off every time she entered the room, something deeper.
It took a while, because he was known for being stubborn as fuck, but he knew that a good detective can’t cherry pick evidences, and eventually, he admitted to himself that he wanted to be with her forever. Which not only was a scary thought by itself, considering how much time he spent running from everything serious and true, but it made his insides twist in fear.
Because nothing that good could last. When the love of you life quite literally fell from heaven, heaven can take her back whenever. And the thought of losing her at any moment pushed his anxieties to the roof. Her behaviour haven’t been exactly helping. Despite of not having anything substantial of proof, Dick could feel something was wrong with her, something that she wouldn't talk about no matter how many times he tried to approach her.
Maybe it was his fault, maybe he put himself in a position in which she felt responsible for his wellbeing but not trustworthy to be relied upon after the mess he had made with Slade and with Jason.
Besides, what claim did he have to demand any clarification from her? They weren't together.
But it still hurt. That feeling of uselessness, of having nothing to offer when she gave so much just being by his side.
They lived in the same house and were currently raising super powered teenagers together, everybody outside their tight circle assumed they were a couple, married even, hell, her sister thought they were together. And Kory hardly flinched when they dined out and the waiter called her “Mrs Grayson”, she joked about it, that also hurt, because it wasn’t true. Yes they used to have sex, and yes he was trying to make his grimaces of pain to look like smiles on regular basis to hide how much he wanted her, but they are not together.
But it wasn't by Dick's choice.
It was Kory's.
And the rejection hurt, especially when he didn’t expect it.
From all his many faults, Dick wasn't that kind of guy, it wasn’t as if he didn’t think that her rejection was impossible or insulting due to some high opinion of himself. But it just didn’t make sense. He wasn't deluding himself, although he sometimes had no choice but doubt, wanting to believe and respect her choice, but when it had such dissonance with her actions…
Because, as much as he sometimes wanted to take the easy way out that his internal self-hatred provided – that he was crazy, pathetic and there was no way in heaven or hell such woman would have feelings for him – Dick had also been trained in reading body language and micro expressions.
Everything about how Kory interacted with him felt like an invitation. Unless he had been suffering from a very serious case of psychosis (again), he couldn’t have been imagining the longing in her gaze. Sometimes, even when he thought she wasn’t in the room, he could feel her eyes in him. And it wasn’t just the hot looks he was used to get from people that only thought he was attractive – even though Kory would give him plenty of those too, his skin had been reaping the benefits of all his ice cold showers. But, sometimes, especially when he was giving attention to their children, or just doing something mundane like reading or meditating, he could feel her watching. A gentle smile on her face, eyes like pools of warmth and endearment. Nobody ever looked at him like that, with such unadulterated fondness.
Or the way she found excuses to touch him. He always loved the feeling of falling, doing unnecessary stunts so he could only feel that special kind of rush. With Kory around to catch him whenever he needed, he had been doing that even more often so he could feel her strong arms around him, and she never denied him.
When they fought enemies, or trained, she always found a way to make skin contact, throwing him at their mark to give him an extra boost, instead of shouting for him to clear away from danger, she’d physically pull him away in very unnecessary and unfortunately fast hugs.
She’d lean on his shoulder for no reason at all, even after her powers returned and she told everyone she was not feeling tired all the time anymore. In the mornings, while they washed the dishes together – since Gar banned them both from cooking – she’d bump him with her hip to make him move out of her way, and her hands always lingered when handing him an utensil.
Kory was always pressing away invisible wrinkles on his clothing, and picking things from his hair, so much he could hear muffled giggles from the children every time she did that.
And how could he have been imagining the way her face lit every time he entered the room, or when someone mentioned his name? He couldn't have made anything like that up. Didn't have the self-esteem necessary, or the self-hatred necessary to imagine such torture.
Dick did wonder, though, if living with a woman that looked like what poets sang about, that had the personality correspondent of the most golden of summer’s day, and flirted with him mercilessly, but yet dismissed every attempt he made to turn their relationship into something romantic was just karma. In the past, he had abused his own good looks and knowledge. Hearts had been broken because of his folly, and now the universe was punishing him or something.
Yeah, right, as if the universe cared that much.
But then, when his bitterness and confusion were not settled at all, and he was getting ready for another night of delicious horrible dreams about the woman that did not want him, something weird happened.
Kory Anders, knocking on his door, with a bottle of tequila, just a few days after he finally asked her out and she destroyed his heart and made a mess of his head by saying no. Not only no, she said she didn’t like him like that. That she loved him as a friend, and didn’t want to make things more complicated.
What a bunch of garbage.
For a fraction of second he wondered what she'd do if he closed the door on her face. But he'd never be able to do that, so, wordlessly, he gave away the space she needed to enter his room.
“Can I help you?” he said when she just stood there, looking everywhere but him, as if his room were a great novelty.
Kory bit her lip and he wanted to die. He didn’t want to believe she did those things out of malice, but sometimes one cannot help but being angry over such carelessness.
“Kory?” he asked in that bitchy impatient way of his.
“I lied,” she finally said in a puff of breath.
“What you mean?” His heart was racing, it couldn’t be. Was he asleep? Most of his dreams began with some sort of flashback of their first night. Terrible, terrible dreams that always ended too soon.
She looked away, searching for something, his heart shrank when swayed her body aside, thinking she was about to leave, but Kory placed the bottle and the cups on his dresser and turned back to him, the look she gave him making his throat feel raw. In two powerful strides she was all over him, firm elegant palms cradling his head as she tilted his face to the angle she wanted for their kiss. It was like if time went back.
He pulled her closer carefully, afraid she’d disappear in the smoke of his lust filled memory if he went too hard or too fast, but even when she remained solid, warm under his touch, her teeth pulling his bottom lip mercilessly, then spreading licks and soothing kisses, her perfume making him dizzy, he let her lead. It was easier, which considering his tendency for always taking the most tortuous path, added a layer of pleasure in a luxury hardly ever taken.

Notes:
I started writing this before season 3, because I wanted to write a fic in which Dick was pining, and also I wanted it to be steamy and smutty. But since the smut part is taking forever to finish and the pining part became bigger than what I planned, you get a two shot.
---
Preview:
“Please don’t this. I don’t want to pretend. I’m so tired of lying to you and I’ll have to pretend to the rest of my life. This might be the last night I will ever have to be myself, to be with you. I need this to be real.”
Kory took one of the hands off his hair, bending her arm backwards so she could rub him trough his trousers. Dick let out a moan and she used the opportunity to make a wet path of kisses across his cheekbones, until she reached his ear. She whispered something in her native language and licked his earlobe.
What else could he do? She wanted real. He’d give her real.
Dick pulled her up as his lips claimed hers again, her powerful legs crossed around his hips. He held her up like that for a while, just enjoying the feel of her body pressed flush against his. His hands giving her support by moulding her round butt with his palms.
Dick he walked backwards until his chins hit the bed and he fell sitting with Kory on his lap. She stopped her ministrations to pull her hair from her face and look down at him.
“Hey,” she said, her eyelashes were still wet, but her tears had stopped falling, she looked so… No wonder she belonged to the heavens, no being in the planet could be so perfect.

Darkest Dungeon: Maybe The True Eldritch Horrors Were The Friends We Made Along The Way
(aka it’s spooky season so I’m gonna ramble about one of my favorite horror themed games. Contains mild spoilers for the end of Darkest Dungeon, though nothing you couldn’t predict if you’re even passingly familiar with Lovecraftian horror.)
If you haven’t played Darkest Dungeon, here’s the rundown:
You play the nameless heir to an estate left by an ancestor of yours. This ancestor was an absolute bastard whose reckless and amoral actions unleashed all manner of eldritch horrors on the countryside. It's now your job to act as manager for adventurers-for-hire as they venture out into the countryside, fighting cosmic horrors, finding food and medicine, and getting you the resources you need to slowly repair the damage that your absolute shithead ancestor left behind.
Any review of Darkest Dungeon will talk about how punishing it is. How death is permanent and how physical and mental traumas leave mechanical effects behind. How as a player you will have to make harsh choices that play into the overall dark tone.
These reviews aren’t wrong exactly. The mechanics are harsh and lead to some intense, nail-biting decisions. But what I think they leave out is - Darkest Dungeon isn’t about suffering and dying.
"Darkest Dungeon is about making the most of a bad situation.”
That line is in quotation marks because it comes from a paragraph of text you see every time you start the game. And it reflects the mindset I’ve seen in a lot of people who enjoy it, myself included.
Not everyone plays a game the same way, and I know some people play Darkest Dungeon with a eye for pure numbers - keep the adventurers that are useful, sacrifice the ones that aren’t, and don’t get attached. It’s a valid way to play it. But for me (and many others) getting attached is part of the experience. And I will absolutely run away from a boss battle if I think I’m going to lose somebody, or pour resources into lowering someone’s stress even if it isn’t strategically wise.
See, Darkest Dungeon’s harsh mechanics do give you the opportunity to be ruthless. To weigh the value of a character’s life against the potential gain of pushing them past their limit.
But harshness also gives you the opportunity to be kind. To spend your limited money on making sure your party has ample food and torches. To give them a rest when they get tired, knowing you may run out of resources later and have to either turn back or do without. And to call them back to the hamlet when they’re in danger or out of supplies, though that means wasted time, effort and resources on your part.
(Just to be clear, I’m not moralizing. These characters are ultimately just pixels, so being ‘harsh’ or ‘kind’ to them is not the moral question it is when dealing with real people. This is just about the sort of gaming experience you come away with.)
There’s a little narrative in Darkest Dungeon, but not a lot. You have some sense of the adventurer characters through their flavor text, and you gradually learn more about your ancestor. But most of the story you really have to fill in yourself.
And looking at fan content, I’ve noticed a whole lot of people choose to make it a story about a ragtag group of misfits doing their best to support each other, fight the odds and enjoy life as much as possible while the world is ending around them.
Admittedly this is tumblr which has a lot of people who are fond of such stories, of found family tropes, etc. But I still think it’s significant that so many people go that route, especially since it would be so easy to lean towards something more grim and dark.
Actually, the more I look at the story of Darkest Dungeon, the more familiar the setting starts to feel.
The final boss is the world-ending horror at the heart of the corruption, one that is extremely difficult to fight and inflicts massive psychological damage on anyone who faces it. It will come as little surprise to those familiar with cosmic horror that even if you win this fight, all you’ve managed to do is put it back to sleep for a while. Someday, likely when you’re not around to stop it, it will come back. Maybe it will be beaten back again by future generations. But it’s quite possible that eventually the apocalyptic scenario you’ve postponed today will just come to pass some other day.
You learn this in the ending cutscene as your smug asshat of an ancestor whispers from beyond the grave. He tells you that your efforts are futile and encourages you to do what he did at the start of it all: to take your own life in response to the horror of everything you’ve learned.
Sounds like a downer ending, right?
Except.
Well, for one thing - you don’t kill yourself. The game remains playable after you reach this end. The heir survives and can continue to fight back the remaining monsters indefinitely. However they feel about everything they’ve experienced, they aren’t giving up.
And honestly, why would they listen to their ancestor? He only ever cared about himself and his own immediate appetites, with no thought to the effect his actions might have on the world. And then, when he realized how bad things were getting he decided to shove the responsibility onto the next generation rather than take any of it on himself. He gave up. But you don’t have to.
I don’t think this is anything that was consciously put in the game, but. . . I do think there’s something about a story where you inherit an environment damaged by past generations, knowing you will never be able to fully repair it, and where you live in fear of an approaching worldwide cataclysm that might resonate with a lot of people today.
That’s right motherfuckers, the true cosmic horror was climate change the entire time. Like I said, I don’t think this was an intended theme. But the feelings most of us have about climate change do create a sort of cosmic horror, don’t they?
Climate change makes us painfully aware of the fragility of a world we might otherwise see as permanent and unchangable. It makes us afraid of things larger than ourselves that might destroy us, not out of malevolence or hatred but because (like Azathoth the blind, idiot god) they are natural forces not capable of considering humanity, nor even capable of conscious thought. Most of all, it fills us with the fear that something terrible is coming that we can see coming but are too small to prevent. What is all of that if not an on-the-nose description of cosmic horror?
What I like about Darkest Dungeon is this: while it does nothing to bring down the scale of cosmic horror - (humanity is still small, individuals are fairly powerless, gaining a small, limited measure of power only by banding together) - fighting against the cosmic isn’t futile. You can clear out these dungeons, you can rebuild the town and make it livable.
Maybe you can’t be sure the apocalyptic scenario you’re staring down won’t eventually happen, even if it happens after you die. But you can still help. You can leave things better than you found them. You can do it by supporting the people around you, by improving your little corner of things here and there, and even by taking the time to enjoy life. To stop fighting for a while and just have a night out in the tavern. (Because this game understands that if you never take a break your stress levels will literally kill you.)
Which I consider a far more productive mindset than the ‘just give up, there’s nothing you can do’ attitude coming from that your garbage asshat ancestor.
It’s a bad situation. But you’re going to make the most of it.

My Unpopular Opinions of 2018
This is messy, a bit mean, and full of my mad/irritated feelings. You’ve been warned. No slipping into my asks as an anon to fight with me because I’ve posted this on my account. These are my opinions and I’ve already said that they aren’t that nice to some shows
1) Charmed and Black Lightning are the only good CW shows and it has the best lesbian rep of 2018 (and Rosa from b99 would be the best bisexual rep)
2) Melanie Scrofano/Wynonna Earp is the best part of Wynonna Earp. Honestly lately the rest of the characters for me have either awful or boring or funny but given nothing to do
3) Also even though she’s the main actress, Melanie is somehow the most underrated actress/character in the show. She’s disregarded by so many fans, either in favor of Wayhaught or Doc, and the show treats her like shit by constantly putting her with Doc
4) Descendants fans who pit Dove Cameron and China Anne McClain against each other in the hopes of making the other seem superior are doing absolutely nothing for their careers and are contributing to the unnecessary comparison between successful women
5) Also I don’t care if you don’t like Dove Cameron, but hating her for that Mal/Harry comment she made months ago is so fucking ridiculous. She’s a girl in love who also loves her character, god forbid she make her own headcanons for it, and it wasn’t like she was asking for it to happen (and no she wasn’t disregarding Mal’s current relationship Ben because she was talking about Mal and Harry being exes god damnit)
6) I can’t believe i have to say this in 2018 BUT STOP WITH THE INCEST STORYLINES! IT AIN’T CREATIVE OR SURPRISING BITCHES JUST GROSS
7) ALSO STOP SHIPPING INCEST GOD PLEASE STOP
8) Timothee Chamalet or whatever his name is, isn’t that great. Like he’s fine I guess but like....Have you seen other actors? I mean, there’s Fady Elsayed, Jack Black, Jordan Renzo, Greg Austin (rip Class), and so many more actors that are, in my opinon, significantly more talented
9) Letterkenny and Galavant are the best comedies out there
10) Riverdale is shit for erasing Jughead’s asexuality and queerbaiting fans at the beginning with Beronica
11) I’ve said this before, but people disliking Cole Sprouse because of the abuse allegation against him is incredibly valid.
12) Mike Flanagan, Jordan Peele, and Kate Siegel are the only people I trust to write some bone chilling horror stories
13) The Haunting of Hill House is better than American Horror Story and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrine combined
Now it’s time to get serious.....
14) I have no respect and cannot get along with people who talk about how ugly people are
15) The hellsite is shit for so many reasons but some of its worst qualities are when people take a situation and make it black and white, have zero sympathy or empathy for other people, and twist peoples words and put in meanings that were never there
16) I also hate how how people only care about mental illness when it doesn’t come to their jokes or memes. For example, mental health has been talked about a lot in regards to Ariana Grande, which is good, but once her engagement with Pete Davidson ended, no one hesitated to attack him in almost every way possible even though the man has been very outspoken about his depression. I don’t know shit about Pete Davidson but I’ve seen him relentlessly be attacked and have his depression and suicidal thoughts be joked about.
17) Stanning is a fucked up culture that we need to leave behind in 2018. There are some celebrities who have a lot of projects that I love and I admire their talent, but the concept of stanning either includes an unhealthy amount of devotion to a celebrity or it erases them as a human being and reduces them down to objects. In some cases, both of these are true. It’s a sick thing for both fans and the celebrities. If a celebrity does something wrong, call them out, and if they don’t listen, well forget it or move on. Cancelling them as if they can be thrown in the garbage and disposed of promotes negativity and hatred, which is doesn’t solve anything, and it can inhibit any growth from that celebrity. They are human and will inevitably fuck up. It’s the only way to learn and grow.
18) This is about Wynonna Earp but it’s a serious post. I’ve made my thoughts about this show abundantly clear but there is one thing I haven’t talked about at all and that’s the racism in the show and in the fanbase. Disclaimer: I am white. This show hasn’t treated any of their poc or black characters well. The latest example would be the treatment of Dolls and Kate. The last two seasons Doc has had two women of color as his love interests, and both of these characters have been treated as objects to make Wynonna jealous. There is also the lack of story and villainization of these women. There is also the major lack of story with Dolls, which most likely led to Shamier Anderson’s decision to leave. I won’t get into anymore, this is how I’ve always viewed these poor storylines, but I will say this: white fans of Wynonna Earp, we do not get a say on how black viewers should feel about any of these storylines. White lesbians, you would be livid is Waverly or Nicole were killed, and rightfully so. Black people or people of color probably felt the rage you would’ve felt if you lost one of those characters when Dolls was killed off. Telling people to get over it is cruel. If people want to stop watching, that is their right. We have no place in telling them how they should feel about the treatment of their representation.
19) I made this post a while ago but it holds true: https://uhhhhhhokay.tumblr.com/post/179314393735/shows-with-good-lgbt-rep
20) Everyone needs a break from social media. I know that for some people, it really helps because we have friends on here that we can talk to, but it also has so many negative effects. The real world is nothing like this toxic website. You should take breaks from it every once in a while. You need to get hobbies. You need some other past time than this website. The majority of people on this site aren’t good and everyone should take a breather from it. I take breaks from this site on a regular basis and when I do it feels so fucking good.
21) Random but The Lodgers is the worst movie ever and it’s an even worse horror movie. Would not recommend. Unless you feel like roasting something for an hour and a half. The only good part about watching that movie was that I watched it with my roommate who I am good friends with and we laughed our asses off and made fun of it so much. It is truly awful. Even though I had a blast roasting it, I will never get that time of my life back.
22) The Last Jedi does not deserve that 91% on rotten tomatoes. Just like how The Lodgers deserves far less than 56%.
23) Time to get serious again. I get that a lot of us wished that the shows we loved were real, but they aren’t. That’s a fact that everyone needs to realize and accept. To me, hating an actor for their character’s actions is just as fucked up as stanning. They aren’t their character. They are not responsible for the shit their characters pull. They are carrying out the story written for them. As for writers, sometimes the writers do not support their characters actions either. Just because the character is evil or mean or whatever does not always mean that the people who work behind the curtain support that.
24) Shipping real people and harassing them is sooo inappropriate and messed up. I shouldn’t really have to explain this one but too many people on this site don’t seem to grasp it. I mean, didn’t Harry Styles say a while ago that all the smutty fanfics, tweets, and fanarts about him and his bandmates effect his friendships with him? Him reacting that way is not homophobic, btw. It is him reacting naturally to people fetishizing and sexualizing him and his friends. These are real people. Their relationship, sexuality, and god just so much of their lives is none of our business. They don’t owe us any information about their personal lives. We don’t own them. They are their own people, which also means that they make their own mistakes.
25) Random again, but original Charmed fans put their show too high of a pedestal. I never got really into show. I tried it, think I watched half of the first season, and I did a little research on it and I was in the fanbase for a hot sec but it was very short. From my research, it seems to me, that for a feminist show, the cast (except Shannon Doherty) was the opposite behind the scenes. I know you can’t help who you don’t like but you can control how you talk about someone, especially to the public, and from what I’ve seen there’s been more negative comments from them about their castmates than positive. I don’t think anyone will know the whole story but to me the feud between the og’s leading ladies has always very catty to me, and it’s gotten even worse with the remake. You can be protective of your show without being rude. You don’t have to support the remake, and you can do that without being rude either. By the way, this is more directed towards Holly Marie Combs, who I believe has been the most outspoken about being against it. Three young actresses are doing the job they love and they were given a chance to be the new charmed ones for a new generation. There is no reason to be so negative about it. It looks even more immature when you see the cast of the original Sabrina who gleefully gave their support to the new cast.
26) Adults please stop thinking every show is for you. it’s not. Some shows are for kids, some shows are for teenagers, and some shows are for you. If you enjoy the show that’s directed towards a younger audience then that’s great. If you don’t enjoy it, then that’s fine too. What is not fine is you acting like that show was meant for you and tearing it apart and bullying people of that directed age group online. I can’t believe the amount of times I’ve seen some 19-40 year old dipshit on the internet go and bully a 15 year old only because they said they loved a show. That is not only sick and immature but it’s uncalled for.
27) Also 15 year olds or younger, do not use your age as an excuse to be mean either. You might be young and you will definitely make huge mistakes, but there’s is nothing to justify you telling someone to kill themselves or insulting them just because they don’t like your favorite character or something. You might not be as experienced as some adults, but you’re old enough to know what the fuck you’re doing and how wrong it is. Don’t be cruel and blame it on you being young and stupid. You maybe young and all of us will always be a bit stupid, but that does not excuse your behavior. And @ older people who do that shit too, your older age and power does not excuse your cruelty either. Nothing excuses telling someone to kill themselves. Ever. Especially if it’s over a goddamn tv show.
28) Can Ryan Murphy please just make one tv show and stick with it until it ends? He has so many great concepts but because he wants to do all of them at once they all go downhill after one season.
29) On the same but different note, fuck Ryan Murphy for having Violet and Tate get back together. My girl deserves better than a serial killer/rapist that also got her mom killed because he impregnated her with the anti christ. Fuck that.
I never intended this to be so long lol no one will read this
30) The Hormone Monster is literally a metaphor for hormones. Stop twisting it into pedophilia. That show is so sex positive and is so much better than most of the sex ed that we got.
31) Let’s leave monster fucking behind please
32) Puzzles are a treat to do
33) Funko pops are cute but they make a lot of dumbass decisions regarding which ones to make (like I saw pops of that new nutcracker movie a while before it was released like maybe wait and see how it does first????)
34) Also lets stop thinking of ships/shows as a way to up yourself as more progressive or whatever. We all have our trash shows and ships, stop acting like a saint. Just because someone has a trash ship, does not mean they are lesser than you.
35) Fanbases are usually always trash. This didn’t change at all in 2018.
36) Class’s first season was significantly better than Torchwoods first season. You guys are just mean.
37) While I adore Class, Patrick Ness’s dialogue was really YIKES sometimes (the Charlie April deleted scene nearly killed me). Overall it was good though because it was the closest depiction of how teens speak.
38) Also any teen drama show that has a teen speak seriously in a hashtag should burn in hell (if a hashtag is used in dialogue as joke then it’s fine because it’s funny)
39) An actor being on a show you don’t like does not warrant hate
40) It’s been two years since Class but still, fuck the dw fans who were/are so mean to the class actors, especially Vivian Oparah and Sophie Hopkins.
I think that’s it.

Dabi Theory Series: Feelings Towards Shōto- Saving or Destroying?
Tumblr media
Feelings Towards Shōto Part 2: Saving or Destroying?
If you guys read Chapter 159, you’ll have seen that Dabi! Is! Back! And honestly him being back makes me wonder if we could get the Todoroki Dabi arc we’ve been dreaming of soon (honestly probably not but..) Anyway! Another week, another too long probably boring theory post.
What if instead of hating Shōto, which was the main point of my theory here, he pitied him, thinks he’s been brainwashed, and wants to save him? On another note, what if he thinks he is too far gone and wants to destroy him? These ideas totally go against what I said before, but I honestly see these ones as being a little more plausible? I’m not really sure. Let me know what you think!
Note: This is just theory. You don’t have to agree or disagree. I really don’t mind! Just please don’t be mean.. I spent a lot of time writing this out and just wanted a place to share my ideas. I don’t even believe all of it, it’s just thoughts I had.
Another Note: Since I’ve gained some new followers since I first started this theory series, I think it’s about time I re-refrence the theory master post for anyone who is just starting to read the Dabi garbage I spew out here. If anyone is interested, here it is!
Stain’s Anti-Hero Ideals
Honestly, this applies to all of the theories I’ve written about so far, as we know Dabi does have Stain’s Anti-Hero ideologies, but it fits in really well with this thought in particular, so I decided to write it out here.
Endeavor is praised as the #2, now #1, Hero. A hero is supposed to be someone that protects people, that helps people, that you can lean on and trust. Endeavor is none of these things. He is a power hungry man who sacrificed his family for his own form of success. He is an abuser who worked his son to the core on top of physical, mental, and verbal abuse, and beat his wife into insanity. In Dabi’s eyes. Endeavor is the opposite of what a hero should be, yet he is praised. To Dabi, Endeavor is probably the definition of a villain… Yet he’s #1 Hero. The system is backwards, and Dabi wants to change that.
Side note: We don’t know exactly how evil Dabi really is. He’s killed people, yeah. And he’s working with the League of Villains.. But up until recently, Dabi was only a petty criminal- he was breaking the law. He was committing crimes. He was immoral and wrong.. But to our knowledge, he didn’t do anything completely terrible before deciding to follow Stain. I think this provides some insight into his character.
Like the man who’s ideals he follows, the line between good and evil is a little vague. Was Stain, a hero murderer, really the same level of evil as a killer with no reason other than to kill? Was there some righteousness to his motives? Looking at this from a more Dabi point of view- would killing Endeavor really be wrong? Is Endeavor really justice? Asking these questions can help evaluate Dabi and where he lies on the villain scale. Hopefully, we’ll see more of him and learn where he falls.
Opposition
Unlike what I suggested before, perhaps Dabi never wanted to be a hero. Perhaps he was never jealous of Shōto and the training and attention he received at all. Even if he did when he was younger (as it would make sense for a young boy growing up in this world), the current Dabi could completely look down on heroes in general, or at least those like Endeavor. Dabi’s entire focus right now is probably on wanting to destroy the current hero system. On stopping the cycle of quirk marriages, on preventing more victims like his younger brother and his mother, and on eliminating “heroes” that care more about glory than actually helping people. To restore heroes to true heroes and stop idolizing monsters like Endeavor.
Shōto is Trapped in this World
Once removing himself (or being removed… I’ll probably write about this later) from the Todoroki family, Dabi was free to follow his own beliefs. Shōto, on the other hand, was not.
Shōto was and still is being brought up by the society that Dabi hates. Rather than hating Shōto, he could see him as a victim of the damned hero society that he is rebelling against. He could pity him, and think his situation is unfortunate, especially if he was aware of the horrors his younger brother was forced to live through. When he looks at Shōto condescendingly during the summer camp arc (How sad, Todoroki Shōto), it may be because he thinks he’s a foolish child who has been brainwashed to believe in Endeavor’s world. He may have hoped that with age, Shōto would develop ideas like his own, and is disappointed that the brother he met was “good”. I doubt he understands Shōto or his motives. He doesn’t know how much Shōto has grown, what’s he’s learned. He may not know the absolute hatred Shōto has for his father, and how he wants nothing more than to be the hero he’s not.
He may think Shōto is a product fulfilling his father’s wishes- he started using his left side recently, and this was televised. Dabi would have seen it, and depending on how much audio was broadcasted (AKA how much of what Izuku said to him the world was allowed to hear), he probably doesn’t know the full story behind it. It’s most likely that all he saw was his brother using his old man’s power, as Shōto used to call it, and this would probably lead him to believe Shōto currently aligns with his father.
Future of This?
What could this mean for the future? In response, he may attempt to “save him” from this world- help him see his current views and the world that he sees. A world without Endeavors. I’m talking about a relationship similar to what Zeke seems to have towards Eren, or at least appeared to have at the end of Return to Shiganshina, if you know what I mean (Chapter 99 asdfghjkl)
There could be a moment, perhaps during battle, where Dabi tries sway Shōto to join him. To take him away from the awful world that he’s currently living in. To take revenge on their father together as brothers. He could try to convince him that all of their problems are because of Endeavor (as if he doesn’t think that already…) and by working together against him and his world, they could save their mother. Dabi could do this out of the goodness of his heart and love for his sibling and mother, or only in order to gain Shōto strengths on his side, or maybe a combination of both. Like mentioned before, we don’t know enough about Dabi to know exactly how evil he really is. I’m not sure how big of an ordeal this would be, but I can honestly picture Dabi trying this. I don’t think Shōto would take the bait, of course, but man, this would really pull at Shōto’s heartstrings and could be a tempting- the saving his mother part of it especially. I think in the end, Shōto would reject Dabi’s offer with a statement like “I want to be a true hero” or something else along those lines. Even so, it would still be a very emotional move to make on the part of Horikoshi.
Too Far Gone?
Following these same concepts, I also think it is likely that Dabi will run these in a totally different direction. Rather than saving him, or trying to sway him, he may think that he needs to be destroyed. Shōto is apart of the society he despises. He’s been consumed by his father’s desires, and is going to grant him them. He even started using his flames- he’s playing directly into Endeavor’s hands, or so Dabi may think. To prevent Shōto from completing his father’s goals, he may want to destroy him. Stop him from giving Endeavor what he wants. Shōto could be a huge future target for Dabi. It would be Dabi’s form of revenge against his father, as well as a step towards ending the society the Todoroki children grew up in; kill his father’s perfect creation. Kill everything he worked for. Stop him from ever obtaining his dream. Endeavor too could be a huge target for Dabi. Killing Endeavor would stop him from hurting anyone ever again and serve as warning message to others who may be like him.
Conclusion
These two branches off the same base idea are really really different, but I think either of them could be possible- I can see both playing out relatively smoothly. Both would be highly emotional, and allow for lots of development.
Anyway! I hope you enjoyed these theories! This one got so long, so I’m really glad I ended up separating it from the Hate one.
I have way too many ideas to honestly give my concrete opinion on what ones I think are the most likely. That’s why I’m interested to hear what you guys think. So please feel free to shoot me a message or ask or something and let me know your thoughts.
I have a lot more left I want to write about, but I’m having a hard time tackling how to go about formatting them… A lot of them (sort of like this one) are based on a general idea but have a lot of branches growing off of them. More branches than this one, somehow. Because of this, I can’t preview which one is next yet. I do know I’m going to make a mini thought thing soon though, but it’s not really a theory (or at least it’s not one yet, who knows how long it’ll get once I actually write it…)
Thanks for reading!
