Summary: Fone Bone was still the best listener Thorn had ever met.

Thorn picked her way through the streets carefully; the capital never got as quiet at night as Barrelhaven, but people still needed to sleep even in Atheia, so it suited her purpose.

“Hello Fone Bone,” she murmured through a small smile; the alabaster likeness didn’t respond, one finger wielding the spark that’d ignited in Tanen Gard and saved the Valley. “It feels like it’s been ages already, doesn’t it?”

She didn’t wait for a reply. She’d come for a listener more than anything, and as much as people assigned more weight to her words since she’d been crowned, Fone Bone was still the best listener she’d ever met.

“I’d have visited sooner,” she said, glancing sideways. “It’s been busy, though; and even though the war’s over, people are still nervous. A lot of them are keen on having a guard accompany me almost anywhere I go.”

She laughed, whispering conspiratorially.

“They’ll be looking in the wrong places for a while once they notice I’m gone.”

She’d snuck out several times before, frequenting other spots in the capital just often enough that the guard ‘discovered’ her so-called usual hiding spots. Most of them were red herrings to distract attention from where she wanted to go, of course. The Bone cousins would’ve appreciated the trick.

“You can’t blame me, right?” She asked. “It gets a little suffocating sometimes; it’s still kind of a shock that I’m not just a farm girl, y’know?”

She turned her back to the statue, leaning against the wall parallel to the recess that housed it.

“That whole year we spent running around the Valley, I was just trying to make sure we all survived; it wasn’t until near the end that I made enough sense of things to try winning. Now?”

She looked up at the stars.

“Being in charge is an entirely different kind of battle. Feels like everything’s turned on its head all over again,” she said, idly raising one hand into the air, fingers stretched toward the distant lights. “I have to call Gran’ma Ben Rose in formal settings now; at least I don’t have to attach a title to her name, but it’s still weird.” She let her arm fall back down. “There are plenty of people around willing to help me, but…”

She rolled her head to one side, looking up at the casting of her friend’s likeness.

“None of them are you.” She breathed, quieter than even a whisper.

A sense of restlessness nearby wandered into the periphery of her awareness; she checked the position of the moon, sighed on realizing how long she’d lingered.

“I should go,” she said wistfully, pushing back from the wall. “I’ll be back to visit again, I’m sure.”

She halfway smiled, hesitating to break the illusion of her own creation and return to life as Queen Thorn.

“I hope you and Phoney, Smiley and Bartleby are happy,” she said. “Wherever you are now.”

Dreaming only knew if they actually made it back to Boneville, after all. Still, if they were together, they’d be fine.

“Good night, Fone Bone.” She said, turning up the street.

Four paces, and the note of a gentle, familiar mumble tickled her ear.

G’night, Thorn.

Her breath caught; she spun her head around.

The alabaster statue remained as she left it, unchanged.

And yet…

Warmth settled in her chest; she continued on her way, her mouth spread into a smile.

She knew her Veni Yan teachers would likely call it impossible, even if she did share it with anyone.

Yet for as small as he was, her dear Fone Bone had always been full of surprises.

the will of the many, major major spoilers 

( a really really stupid ramble i have during my twotm reread that i needed to scream into the void for under the cut lmfao )

One thing i can applaud Vis for is his amazing ability to be so inherently, ridiculously bisexual.  Like we have him describing people like “yeah this one’s a scrawny short guy, and this one’s a really buff dude who i, at first, thought was a grown adult just chilling at the school tables” and then he randomly goes along describes some other people like he got assigned to do poetry on them for school. And the funniest part is he ends up having more chemistry with just about everybody BESIDES his love interest (who may not be his love interest anymore due to complicated events that involve attempted murder).

For men we have Vis mentally describing Indol as handsome in almost every scene he appears in. Through Vis we learn how handsome, charming, brilliant, and amazing Indol is. How thoughtful and how genius and how capable and how he's the smartest and makes smart plans and whatever the fuck. Almost every line is some form of admiration. There is quite literally a line where Vis calls Indol “the closest thing Caten has to a prince”, which is quite the compliment considering Vis is. You know. An actual prince. And then there’s a line that goes like “I know I’m not supposed to, but I can’t help myself from liking him.”

(AND THEN YOU MEAN TO TELL ME THAT VIS IS A STRAIGHT MAN??? WITH THAT LINE?? Yeah, no. Not possible. It's so funny to read this, because lmfaooo hello???)

And then for women  we have the sheer amount of stuff Vis mentally says for Aequa, ranging from “dark wisps of her hair catch golden rays of sunlight from behind her” when her first meets her to a whole ass paragraph about how brilliant and “fiercely hardworking” and intelligent and radiant about how she truly deserves her top spot in class four and blablabla. and then a whole other line about how she’s smiling radiantly and “practically glowing” when she’s at the festival and sees a bunch of foundation games or something. And then another line about how Vis "genuinely doesn't get why people dislike her, because she's so greaaat and intelligent" (Lmao though I enthusiastically agree, Vis, she's my favourite) and how he finds it "inexplicably annoying" when those said class four students make throwaway jokes about her.

May be a hot take but i’d probably rather ship Vis with either of them than Emissa (even if she gets a really badass villain/well-written arc that I really badly want for her 🤡🤡🤡). Or literally anybody else. Callidus. Eidhin. Indol and Aequa, for gods sake, since apparently Vis can’t get enough of those fuckers.  It’s hilarious though and I love this book. As a bisexual I can confirm that he’s one of us.) 

I know he likes Emissa for a huge chunk of the book, but I find it funny that compared to the sheer amount of chemistry and compliments that Callidus (“he’s so smart and genius and awesome and I trust him sooo much he's great”), Eidhin (“he’s so smart and quick-witted and a marvel of physical specimen (???)”), and Indol who’s basically both a prince and a model in Vis’ eyes, and then Aequa who basically glows in Vis’ vision, and LITERALLY EVERYBODY BESIDES EMISSA gets this treatment, because the lines Vis has for Emissa sound either forced or bland or both. Like, yeah. We know her eyes are green. Thanks for speedrunning your whole scene with her though. Totally not suspicious.

Tune in (or not because if then please ignore my antics) for when I analyze each Praeceptor and why I really really like their different personalities and characters, and an uncomfortable close look on their teaching styles (or, in terms of Dultatis, their annoying asses).

A little unpopular opinion on something I've seen happen more commonly throughout November/December and wanted to address quickly for my own blog: Please never hesitate to reblog anything from me. You see me reblogging a sentence starter list that you like? Go for it and reblog it from me directly without any pressure on you whatsoever to send anything into me before doing so. You like a GIF-set or musing that I reblogged? Nab it from me, it'll brighten my day to see that we share an interest in something. I like to see interaction between me and anyone who follows me. I like to see that little activity notification light up.

Honestly, it simply reminds me that we're all part of a community, and more specifically, a fandom that consists of characters and nations that we all came to love and then share that amongst ourselves. And honestly, seeing a reblog happen shortly after me but it's from the source, creates (in my opinion) an odd sense of chosen disconnect between people that can feel awkward, it's as if we're walking on eggshells as to not rub each other the wrong way. But what's wrong about going 'Hey, I see what you reblogged, I like it too!', it even gives you potential common ground to start a conversation. We're a community, and I don't know about you, but I like seeing people interact with each other beyond merely threads and notes. It's the little things that matter, after all.

Summary: Jango was already having a shit day when he runs into the Jedi. Cody is already having a bad day when the mando interrupts an argument between him and Obi-wan. Obi-wans day was going okay, then a Mandalorian aims his blaster at him. This whole Time Travel business is both more and less stressful than fighting an actual galaxy spanning war in Codys opinion.
