I wanna make a DanDaDan post about how actually the sexual assault scene in the first episode (nothing ends up happening and she does kick their asses, in case you’re unfamiliar) is kind of a good setup for the level of heavy that the rest of the story is going to bring, but idk that I can really do the topic justice. But like. DanDaDan is a romantic comedy but it’s also a thriller/horror story. And I think the SA scene is a good indicator of how it gets handled: it’s not so dark that awful things are explicitly pictured on screen, but it’s still there. And none of it is treated like fan service or played for laughs. And victims are handled with kindness and care and, when possible, empowered to regain control in ways they’ve felt they’ve lost it.

I find DanDaDan to be a really charming story. I know a lot of people have cried at various moments reading it. There are also always a lot of laughs (overarching plot for most of it is hunting for someone’s testicles that got turned into golden balls of spiritual power). And it’s some of the best manga romance I’ve read in a while, especially in a shonen (they get to be best friends!).

Obviously, I’d highly recommend it. But also, I think it’s really hard to explain the warnings without making it sound a lot worse than it is. Ultimately, it’s a story that does touch on heavy themes, but it also emphasizes love and kindness. And for the most part, the tone is lighthearted and fun and features silly teenagers being silly teenagers.

I love their jealousy going both ways at the dinner party. I love that Pin always looks slightly unhinged and murderous for a fraction of second everytime someone goes near Anin. I love that Anin gets agressive and even slightly self-destructive (not in a serious way tho) when she's jealous.

I love that they're equally possessive and need to reaffirm their ownership of each other through passionate embraces.
