wip snip 6.2
it's wednesday my dudes!! so i have a preview of chapter 2 of my bloodweave fic Glory ready to roll as with last week, the full chapter will post on friday; i'm already super excited about it. here's a bit from that chapter! enjoy!
Gale clears his throat slightly and starts, “Further to making amends—”
“Further? Darling, you’ll spoil me.”
“That’s all right,” Gale says easily, with what he probably thinks is a very charming wink. It’s just awkward instead, and highlights the wispy black veins running down from the corner of that eye. Astarion suddenly desperately wants to ask about them, but Gale speaks again before he can. “I would like to invite you to stay the night here.”
Alarm flares through Astarion immediately, and he curses himself inwardly for growing complacent. “I’m not sure your knees could take that.”
“That’s not—not for that,” Gale says, sounding a bit frustrated. Then he spits out, “And you’ve no idea what my knees could take—but that’s not the point.”
“What is, then?”
“The point is you are welcome to stay the night in this room and do—whatever pleases you. I’ve a lanceboard set, if you’re up for a match, and innumerable books for you to read, if that’s your sort of thing. If you’d like to—to just sit and exist in this room, not drawing Cazador’s ire, that’s all right too. Whatever you’d like, the choice is yours.” Gale spreads his arms wide to demonstrate the breadth of choice Astarion has, giving him an encouraging smile.
Astarion stares at him, baffled once again. “You’re inviting me to just—stay here, with you, for the entire night.”
“Yes? And for other nights, if you’d like—I’m planning to ask for your siblings’ assistance with my work around the palace during the day and stress that they be well-rested for it, hopefully forestalling the, erm, other nightly activities you all partake in. And no judgments here on that, I know it’s a ghastly service that you’ve been pressed into, but—anyway. You can forego that if I continue to request your presence in my room at night, right? You can just stay here and—”
“Play lanceboard,” Astarion says flatly.
Gale brightens for a moment, then deflates slightly as he picks up Astarion’s tone. “Yes. Or—read. Or watch me read; whatever you want, really.”
This man is an idiot, Astarion decides abruptly. His titles must be fake, or Mystra has truly terrible taste in Chosen—there is no way Gale of Waterdeep is any more intelligent than even Petras.
“Really,” Astarion says. “And what if I want to drink all your brandy and pass out in your bed?”
To his annoyance, Gale simply shrugs. “Sure. I’ll push these settees together and kip here when I’m done with my research. Do you sleep, though? Forgive my presumption—I thought you were an elf.”
“What gave me away?” Astarion asks, gesturing up at his ears. He grabs up the bottle of brandy, too, and gets to his feet, watching this idiot of a wizard the entire time. “Passing out is a figure of speech. I just want your bed.”
“It’s yours.”
“Without you in it.” Astarion eyes him warily as he heads over to the bed in question, making a big deal of turning down the covers, kicking off his house shoes, and climbing right into the center of it, spreading each of his limbs out as far as possible. He tries not to think about the dozens of times he’s been in this bed otherwise, intent instead on pushing Gale as far as he’ll go with this.
Gale just shrugs, the absolute idiot. “Make yourself comfortable. I have some notes to finish compiling; you won’t even know I’m here.”
“Fine,” Astarion snaps, taking a deep swig of brandy straight from the bottle, staring Gale down. Gale smiles back at him, then gets up and moves as if to actually go to his desk and write.
Astarion lets him for a moment, taking another angry gulp of brandy, before spitting out, “Are you some kind of simpleton?” suddenly enough to make Gale jump.

Here is my precious half-drow bard Alraeyn!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I spent most of yesterday in character creation building on her lore (her name alone took me a solid 2 hours - I ended up delving into drow naming conventions and using a drow name table from a redditors old Dragon Magazine from 2000... really got lost in the sauce there).
I've finally made it to the Grove! And I am fighting for my life trying to steal from these traders😭

A impromptu short rest
Characters: Shadowheart, Lae'zel, Astarion, Eira, Halsin, Karlach, Gale, Wyll
Returning to camp, the four who went out to fight sit down at the center, exhausted. Shadowheart is the first one to speak up. "Someone ready to tell the rest of us what happened out there?" The ones who didn't go with, who stayed behind, go and take a seat next to the depleted travelers. Lae'zel is quick to respond. "I don't know, Shadowheart. Are you ready to tell us why you didn't heal me?" The two are fast to argue, leaving no room for the rest of camp to interrupt. Astarion just lays on the ground, groaning into the grass, both out of exhaustion and of annoyance. Eira stands up at that. Two sets of eyes follow her, Halsin's and Karlach's. She takes a few steps back, her hands clenching and unclenching, a frown on her face. She unsheathes her staff, mindlessly turning it and tapping it on the ground. Then she turns around and hits the large rock behind her. There's a twhack to be heard. A few more hits follow, the staff showing no sign of breaking, and no dent following in the rock. Still, it has Halsin concerned. He stands up and moves fast, standing beside Eira and holding her right arm, stopping her from taking out her frustration on the mass of earth. "Enough, Eira. Tell us what went wrong." She tugs a little at the hold, but isn't strong enough to break free. She stops resisting at that. "It's just- it was supposed to be easy. I don't get why we couldn't control the situation! Lae'zel almost died, Astarion was in a tight spot, and Shadowheart and I barely got by with the two of us. It's not... It was meant to work out." She pouts, her frown not disappearing at that. Halsin doesn't let go of her arm. Instead, he refocuses his grip to be near her wrist, lowering her arm in the process. "I get that. Life does not always follow your plan, and you'd be remiss to think you could control the rules of nature. The important thing is to learn of your mistakes, and prevent them from happening again." He chuckles, trying to lighten the mood. "But the poor staff didn't do anything wrong. There's no need to take your anger out in that way. You wouldn't like it if I slammed you against the rock, would you?" The staff falls out of her hand at that, and all conversation seemed to stop at camp. Eira's mouth opens, closes, and opens again, no sound coming out. A few chuckles and groans could be heard from the group. Karlach and Astarion seem especially intrigued in what is happening now. "I... don't know how to answer that." Astarion decides to help. "Sounds like it would hurt, darling." She turns her head towards him, fury in her eyes, and he only waves his fingers in return, clearly amused. Nobody mentions the furious blush that makes her skin turn yellow. "You're right, Halsin, I should not have done that." She pulls her wrist free with one sharp tug, and folds her hands together. "Apologies for that behaviour." And she makes her fast retreat to her tent. Gale is the only one who speaks up, after the group watches her disappear behind the tent folds. "...she does know you guys will travel on soon, right?" Wyll pats his shoulder. "I believe it's best to give her some time alone, Gale."

i have this one post bg3 epilogue/canon au for hag romance where they ! get the Gang (except lae’zel) together again bc shri’iia is in a quest for a cure for astarion’s vampirism and i like the idea that gale introduces thalia to them bc she’s also a travelling scholar hoping to find a cure of her own affliction and she’s been every where so surely she has a lead somewhere (maybe she does). actually 5050 on everyone being together but what’s important is that Hag Romance is a thing AND The Soulmates are meeting and in the same vicinity…..!! not to mention thalia was shri’iia’s dream guardian so to meet a woman who looked so similar to the person that you’ve seen before is so ‼️❓ not to mention how drows are not able to dream nor see anything in their trance, so the dream guardian visiting is something so memorable to shri’iia bc that’s the first time she has seen anything in her trance other than the Black Void, and the fact that that woman is very real and alive and in front of her …. Interesting scenario to me hehe

I had a dream that Astarion and Halsin autonomously started seeing each other when in a poly with Null, and I had dialogue options to tell Astarion how happy Null was that he and Halsin were finally getting together like this.
He did what he does when shy about what genuine nice thing he's saying, and just huffed and cleared his throat about it after he said it was gonna happen eventually anyways, and that he may as well when they get on well at that point.

finished (or at least got through part of the epilogue party in) bg3 today and ough. i’m going to be tormented by thoughts of post canon inula and astarion aren’t i
#head in hands. i’m normal about them (projecting)#bg3 spoilers#inula posting#i loveeee that she has managed to actually become a character through this game… she’d been a concept for so long#but now she’s actually Someone!! even if said someone is a self insert lol#i still find their little dynamic so funny. lawful neutral life domain cleric worshipping a goddess of light and joy#+ her sarcastic emotional support chaotic neutral vampire rogue /hj#i have so many screenshots i sent my friend of inula like Covered in blood while astarion was behind her spotless in cutscenes AGDJDHSJS#it SHOULD be the other way around but. it’s funnier this way#anyway. i like to believe that they moved to the underdark or something and have been splitting their time between helping the spawn there—#—and looking for ways for astarion to walk in the sun again#i think inula would want to settle down or at least relax for a while after the events of the game since. that is *a lot* for someone who—#—had never left her clergy before all of this lol. i don’t think astarion would settle down as easily though#they balance it out with some smaller adventures and travels probably. going to different towns and cities to find more books or leads#SIIIIIIGH anyway. sitting here. thinking. will probably continue thinking to no one’s surprise#they are just so sillyyyy and important to meeee. i would babble more about their dynamic#because i reeeaaally like how it played out in game but. that’s for another post when i fully get inula’s backstory fleshed out :3c#i again still find it funny they even ended up together lol i wasn’t necessarily trying too hard for it#perhaps her whimsy and need to be a push over bewitched him u_u (COUGHeasy to manipulateCOUGH)#anyway

at the end of the day
summary. you and astarion have your first genuine fight and the other companions try to patch things between the two of you.
warnings. comfort/fluff
pairing. Astarion x GN!Reader
a/n. have not written an actual one-shot in a while omg,...
Tumblr media
Breakfast is eaten in silence. One that's been extending far past its welcome date now.
Shadowheart grips her fork, feeling the flitting glances exchanged amongst the others around the table while she maintains focus on the two individuals sitting on opposite sides of the table. Your eyes remain trained on the bread sitting on your plate and Astarion swirls his chalice aimlessly in his hand, neither of you even acknowledging the presence of the other. The cleric grimaces as you stand suddenly, your chair scraping against the floor as you do so.
"Thanks for the food, Gale," is all you mutter before leaving the room with your plate in hand. Astarion rises from his own chair in an instant, huffing.
"I must take my leave as well."
When both parties have left the room, all five other companions stare at one another in a knowing silence. Lae'zel is the only one who doesn't seem the slightest bothered. Wyll is the one to break the uncomfortable tension in the air, clearing his throat after Lae'zel nearly bites her fork off. "I see they're still amidst their lovers' quarrel."
"What are they even fighting about?" Karlach groans, slumping into her chair with an exasperated groan.
"It was nice the first few days to have a good night's sleep without their incessant noises," Shadowheart grumbles, shoving an egg into her mouth. "But now, this is arguable worse."
"Should we...aid them somehow?" Gale blinks.
Lae'zel snorts. "They're adults, we don't need to coddle them, wizard."
Despite her words, they do find themselves a few hours later in unanimous agreement to do something to ease the unfamiliar dryness of the camp dynamic. It comes in multiple attempts. And to say few---if not all--were unsuccessful, is an understatement.
First, when out in the woods, Gale makes an effort to spark a conversation that would prompt both you and Astarion to join in. You nod occasionally, though lost in thought, while Astarion promptly ignores whatever he's talking about. It's a pathetic attempt that has nobody but himself babbling away, which earns a grunt from Shadowheart. It's enough to shut him up, thankfully.
Second, Karlach uses her uncanny ability to lift someone's spirits. Jokes, dancing, all that jazz. Even booze. She urges you to let loose, but all you do in response is smile at her apologetically while Astarion just glares off into space. Another failed attempt. Lae'zel pats Karlach on the shoulder.
Wyll tells stories of his monster hunting days which you usually take an interest in. Astarion naturally listens to what a monster hunter does when he's not hunting monsters, but that's all it is. You and Astarion only listen. There are quips and lingering questions, but neither of you ever direct it at one another, or bother to add into the conversation either. The sheer amount of teasing questions has Wyll's head spinning by the end of it. Lae'zel rolls her eyes.
Just when things couldn't possibly get any worse, you're ambushed. It's a small horde of goblins---nothing beyond your capabilities, but your companions do take some small scratches here and there. Somehow, though he rarely does, as he prefers staying behind you or Karlach, Astarion does too. And despite his efforts to hide it behind his back, you also didn't miss the cut lining Astarion's arm to his elbow. It's not deep by any means, and if it were your own injury, you'd likely just brush it off.
But it's on his skin, and he'd gotten it when taking a hit from an arrow that should've cut your arm.
Blasted hells, you think, as he shrugs it off. Even when you can clearly see him clenching his jaw to bite away the pain.
If battle won't be the end of you, you're sure your idiot of a boyfriend might be instead.
"Come here, you fool," you mutter, holding out your hand. He doesn't even consider the fact that you're mad at one another and immediately extends his arm to you. Habits, you suppose.
You mumble out a weak scolding as he watches you wrap the wound through his lashes. He shivers as you lather a cool ointment on the cut, hoping it's enough to soothe the pain before Shadowheart's recovered enough to properly heal him. He lifts a pale hand to your face, and for a moment, you think he might pinch you. Instead, he runs a thumb across your cheek, spreading the ointment on a scratch you hadn't even realized was there in the first place.
You meet his eyes, your own softening as he cups his fingertips around your cheek. The way he looks at you is overwhelming sometimes---like you're the only thing he gives a damn about in this world---but it's a welcome feeling when he hasn't even looked you in the eye this way in days now. For a moment, you realize you don't even remember why the two of you were mad at one another in the first place.
A laugh threatens to escape your throat. How childish, truly.
And then he flicks your forehead, unable to help the grin etching onto his lips when you blink in surprise.
"That was for making me sleep by myself for three nights."
You swat at his arm while he dodges each of your lazy attempts to get back at him. And though the two of you continue bickering, unbeknownst to you, you have an audience a good bit away, watching you return to your old ways after making them worry for so long.
"What a sight it is--to see young people in love again," Wyll smiles.
Shadowheart deadpans. "Isn't Astarion nearing 240?"
"Who cares?" Karlach shrugs, slinging her arms on either side of her companions with a toothy beam. "What matters is that they made up...and we didn't even have to help them."
