stay golden .
ashlyn banner « comfort.
Lately, fatigue and deep eye bags have somehow wedged their way into your routine. The constant running and fighting in the phantom dimension has done wonders for your physical health— unfortunately, the same can't be said for your brain. All you can seem to think about is how tired you are.
And Ashlyn notices. Of course she notices– she's always paid more attention to you than anyone else. So, in true Ashlyn fashion, she hovers around you awkwardly for the majority of the school day, seemingly engaged in a mental battle with herself. Over what, you're not sure.
Until last period, that is.
Your pencil lay useless on your desk, abandoned due to the slightly irresponsible decision you made to forgo taking notes in favor of sleeping. While you're clearly fighting to stay awake, Ashlyn taps your shoulder from her seat next to you. She slips you a small piece of paper, her neat handwriting spelling out a simple sentence:
'After school nap at mine?'
After a full consecutive week of you taking a nap at her place unexpectedly, Ashlyn decided to embrace it. And, surprisingly enough, she began to enjoy them. Expect them, even. It's almost become a daily thing at this point, not that either of you are complaining.
You scribble down a messy 'yes' under her question and slip the paper back to her, shocking yourself momentarily as her fingers brush yours.
"Electrifying." You mouth. She rolls her eyes– but you don't miss the way her lips quirk into a smile.
Ashlyn stayed true to her word. Once the school day ended, she practically dragged you to the bus.
"I'm trying to get home because I'm tired." She reasoned when you inevitably asked why she was tugging on your arm like she wanted to rip it off.
Eventually, the excruciatingly long ten minute bus ride came to an end, and you and Ashlyn left the bus with Aiden and Ben not too far behind.
"Ben and I aren't doing anything for the rest of the day. We should all go do something!" Aiden suggested, appearing next to you out of what seemed like thin air.
"Where did you even come from?" You ask, raising a brow.
"I've literally been behind you this entire time." He responded, shooting her a weird look.
"Anyways, no can do. We're booked." You shrugged, following Ashlyn up her driveway as Aiden sighs loudly and continues down the street with Ben.
"I don't understand where he gets all that energy from." You sigh as you and Ashlyn climb the stairs to the second floor.
"Nobody does. Not even him." Ashlyn responded, kicking her shoes off and practically throwing herself at her bed.
"How civilized." You remark as you slip your shoes off and flop next to her.
"Shut it." She snapped lightly, tugging the comforter out of your hands. You scoff and tug it away from her, wincing in pain as her foot meets your calf.
"Stop kicking me you baby." You grumble, already starting to feel like you're sinking into the mattress.
It's not long until you and Ashlyn end up a mess of tangled legs, frizzy hair and twisted blankets. Hours pass, and the sun slowly starts to dip behind the tree line. Once five pm hit and Ashlyn's parents came home, Emma came up to Ashlyn's room to remind her she had ballet soon.
Emma knocks a couple times, and after receiving no response, pushes the door open.
"...Mike, get my phone!"

Touché - DATING YOU TO DISTRACT YOU BUT GETS DISTRACTED FIRST
Academic Rival!Jake x f!Reader (Smut, Crack, Fluff) MDNI 18+ ENHA HARD HOURS
Jake Sim has one job—beat you in the race for the Harrison Fellowship. His strategy? Get close. Get under your skin. Get you too distracted to focus. His method? Kissing you stupid. Pressing you against walls. Finding out exactly how far he can push before you snap. The problem? You like to push back. Now, between tangled sheets, heated arguments, and “just one more time” turning into every damn night, Jake’s got a new problem. He’s not thinking about winning anymore. He’s thinking about you. 💔 “This was supposed to be a game. So why do I feel like I’m the one getting played?”
-
You drum your fingers against the desk, watching Professor Martinez pace at the front of the lecture hall. The midterm papers are stacked neatly in his arms, and you can practically feel the anxiety radiating off the two hundred students packed into the room.
But you're not anxious. Not really.
You know exactly what score awaits you—the same score you've received on every major assessment since freshman year: the highest in the class.
Your eyes drift across the lecture hall to where Jake Sim sits, surrounded by his usual entourage. Even now, minutes before receiving a grade that could make or break their GPA, they're laughing at something he's said. The sound of his rich laughter carries across the room, drawing more than a few admiring glances.
Jake Sim. Campus golden boy. The kind of person who walks into a room and immediately owns it. The kind of student professors mention in other classes. The kind of face that appears on university brochures—which it literally does, as he's been the unofficial "face" of the university's marketing materials since sophomore year.
He's also the only person who's ever come close to beating your scores.
"Before I hand these back," Professor Martinez says, silencing the murmurs, "I want to discuss the grade distribution."
He clicks to display a graph on the projector screen. The curve looks normal enough, with a significant peak around the B-range.
"As you can see, the class average was 78.4," he continues. "We had a standard deviation of approximately 12 points. However—" he pauses, adjusting his glasses, "—we also had two outliers."
The next slide shows the same curve with two dots far to the right of the main distribution. Your throat tightens with a familiar tension.
Jake's eyes meet yours across the lecture hall. His expression is casual, but you recognize the intensity in his gaze. This is what it's always been like between you two: a silent acknowledgment of the competition that's defined your college experience.
"Our top two scores," Professor Martinez announces, "were separated by only half a point."
The room stills. This is closer than usual.
You see Jake sit up straighter, his perfectly coiffed hair catching the light as he leans forward. Even from across the room, you can see the flash of white teeth as he grins confidently. His friends nudge him, already assuming victory.
"Mr. Sim scored an impressive 98.2," Professor Martinez says, and a ripple of impressed murmurs spreads through the lecture hall.
Jake's golden-boy smile widens as he accepts congratulatory shoulder pats from his friends. He hasn't looked at you yet, clearly believing he's finally done it—finally beaten you.
"And Ms. L/N—" Professor Martinez pauses, the ghost of a smile playing on his lips, "—scored a 98.7."
The half-point difference might as well be a chasm.
Jake's smile freezes in place, his dark eyes immediately seeking yours as the realization hits him. He's lost. Again. By the slimmest of margins.
You allow yourself a small, satisfied smile before looking down at your notebook, pretending to be humble about your victory. But inside, you're savoring the moment. It never gets old, watching the golden boy settle for silver.
After class, you take your time gathering your materials, accepting quiet congratulations from a few classmates. Unlike Jake, you don't have an entourage. You have acquaintances, study partners occasionally, but your focus has always been on achievement rather than popularity.
As you make your way up the steps of the lecture hall, you sense someone behind you. You don't need to turn to know who it is—you can tell from the expensive cologne and the sudden hushed whispers of nearby students watching the university's academic rivals in proximity.
"Congratulations," Jake says, falling into step beside you as you exit into the hallway. His voice carries none of the warmth it does when he's with his friends. "Half a point. Must be nice."
"It is," you reply coolly, clutching your midterm paper with its red 98.7% circled at the top. "Maybe next time."
Jake stops walking, forcing you to stop too unless you want to seem like you're fleeing. You turn to face him, noting the way his dark hair falls perfectly across his forehead despite the late afternoon humidity that has your own hair frizzing at the edges.
"There's always the final," he says, his voice lowering into something almost like a threat. "And the Harrison Fellowship application is due next month. Midterms are just one battle."
You raise an eyebrow. "A battle you lost."
Something flashes in his eyes—not anger exactly, but frustration mingled with something else. Challenge, perhaps. Determination.
"This isn't over," he says, his voice carrying just enough for a few passing students to slow down, sensing drama between the two top students.
"Never said it was," you reply with a sweet smile, hugging your perfect test paper to your chest.
Jake maintains eye contact for a moment longer than comfortable, then breaks into the easy, charismatic smile that's plastered across half the campus publications. The sudden shift is disorienting, his intensity disappearing behind his golden-boy mask so quickly you almost doubt it was ever there.
"See you in Advanced Statistical Methods tomorrow," he says cheerfully, as if your competition is just friendly banter. "Front row as usual?"
"Where else?" you respond, puzzled by his sudden change in demeanor.
He winks—actually winks—before turning to join his waiting friends, who immediately surround him like a protective bubble of popularity. You watch him go, telling yourself the flutter in your stomach is just the satisfaction of victory, not a reaction to those dark eyes or that practiced wink.
One of Jake's friends says something that makes the whole group laugh, and you catch Jake glancing back at you before joining in. Something about his expression makes you uneasy, like he's not quite done with this interaction.
You shake off the feeling and head toward the library. The Harrison Fellowship application won't write itself, and you'll need to maintain your perfect GPA if you want to beat Jake Sim for that too.
What you don't realize, as you push through the heavy library doors, is that Jake is watching you go, his mind already formulating a plan that has nothing to do with studying—and everything to do with making sure you don't beat him again.
-
Jake closes his apartment door behind him and leans against it, loosening his tie with a frustrated jerk. The congratulatory words from his friends still ring hollow in his ears. Second place. Again.
"Damn it," he mutters, tossing his backpack onto the couch. His roommate looks up from his laptop, eyebrows raised.
"Let me guess. You didn't beat her again?"
Jake shoots him a glare that would silence anyone else, but Ethan has been his best friend since orientation week. He's immune.
"Half a point," Jake says, collapsing into an armchair. "Half a freaking point."
Ethan whistles. "That's close, though. Closest you've gotten."
"Close doesn't get me the Harrison Fellowship," Jake snaps, running his hands through his perfectly styled hair, messing it up for the first time all day. "Close doesn't get me into Stanford. Close is just another word for failure."
"Dramatic much?" Ethan chuckles, turning back to his computer.
But Jake isn't listening anymore. He's staring at the ceiling, where he's pinned his vision board—Stanford acceptance letter (photoshopped, for now), Harrison Fellowship certificate (also photoshopped), summer internship offer from Goldman Sachs (real, but he turned it down for a research position), and a cutout from last semester's dean's list (where your name appeared just above his).
A slow smile spreads across his face as an idea forms.
"I need to change tactics," he says, sitting up straight.
Ethan glances over. "What do you mean?"
Jake jumps up and begins pacing, energy suddenly radiating from him. "I've been trying to beat her on a level playing field, but that's clearly not working."
"So what, you're going to cheat?" Ethan frowns.
"No, nothing like that," Jake says, waving his hand dismissively. "I'm going to... distract."
Ethan closes his laptop, now fully invested in the conversation. "Distract how?"
Jake's smile grows wider, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "I'm going to ask her out."
Ethan stares at him for a long moment before bursting into laughter. "You're joking."
"I'm completely serious," Jake says, grabbing his planner from his backpack and flipping it open. "Think about it—if she's spending time with me, that's less time studying. If I can get under her skin, disrupt that perfect focus..."
"That's cold, man," Ethan says, though he sounds impressed. "Even for you."
Jake shrugs, already jotting down ideas. "It's not personal. It's strategic."
"And what if she says no?" Ethan challenges.
Jake looks up, his signature confidence returning. He runs a hand through his hair, instantly restoring it to its usual perfection, and flashes the smile that got him voted "Most Likely to Succeed" three years running.
"No one says no to Jake Sim," he says with a wink.
Over the next hour, Jake crafts what he considers the perfect plan. He maps out your study schedule based on when he's seen you at the library. He notes your usual coffee spots, your preferred study locations, even which days you attend office hours. He's been your competition long enough to know your habits.
"Phase one: casual coffee," he mutters, writing it down. "Phase two: study dates. Phase three: actual dates."
Ethan watches with growing concern. "You know, most people just ask someone out because they like them."
"I do like her," Jake says absently, still planning. "I like beating her."
"You sound abusive."
"You know what I mean."
"And what happens when midterms are over? When you've gotten what you want?"
Jake looks up, genuinely confused. "Then I end it, obviously."
Ethan shakes his head. "You're going to fall on your face with this one, Sim."
"Watch me," Jake replies, holding up his planner with a flourish. Every hour of the next two weeks is now color-coded and annotated with his "Distraction Campaign."
He's never been more excited about a project in his life. The Harrison Fellowship is as good as his. And the look on your face when he finally beats you? He can already imagine it, can already feel the sweet satisfaction of victory.
What Jake doesn't account for is the possibility that his perfect plan might have one fatal flaw: himself.
-
The next morning, you're settling into your usual spot in the library's northeast corner—the one with the perfect combination of natural light and distance from foot traffic—when a coffee cup appears in your peripheral vision.
"Americano, extra shot, light room for cream. That's your usual, right?"
You look up to find Jake standing there, holding not one but two cups of coffee, dressed in a blue button-down that makes his eyes seem impossibly dark in comparison. His hair is artfully tousled, and he's wearing the smile that graces the university's promotional materials.
"How do you know my coffee order?" you ask, suspicious.
Jake shrugs, sliding the cup toward you. "I notice things."
"Like my study schedule?" You glance pointedly at your books, then back at him.
"Actually, that's why I'm here." Jake pulls out the chair across from you without waiting for an invitation. "I was thinking we could study together for the Advanced Statistical Methods final."
You nearly choke on your first sip of coffee. "Study together? You and me?"
"Why not? We're the top two students. It makes sense."
It makes absolutely no sense. You and Jake have been academic rivals since freshman year. Studying together would be like a gazelle inviting a cheetah to dinner.
"What's your angle?" you ask bluntly.
Jake places a hand over his heart, feigning offense. "Can't a guy just want to collaborate with a fellow academic?"
"A guy, yes. You? No."
His smile shifts into something more genuine—smaller but reaching his eyes. "Fair enough. But I'm serious. Professor Rivera's finals are legendary. Even I could use some help with time series analysis."
God, I'm good, Jake thinks, mentally congratulating himself. The humble approach is working perfectly. A little vulnerability, a touch of self-deprecation, and she's already softening. Time series analysis? Please. I memorized that chapter last week. But she doesn't need to know that. Step one of the Distraction Campaign is officially in motion.
Against your better judgment, you agree. You tell yourself it's because you can keep an eye on him this way, maybe even figure out his study techniques.
By the fourth study session, you're beginning to regret your decision. Not because Jake is unpleasant company—quite the opposite. The problem is that nothing gets done when he's around.
"So if we apply the Durbin-Watson statistic here—" you begin, only to be interrupted by Jake's phone buzzing for the twelfth time in twenty minutes.
"Sorry," he says, not sounding sorry at all as he checks the message. "Study group chat. They're trying to figure out where to meet later."
"You have another study group today?" you ask, exasperated.
"No, tonight's the Alpha Delta Pi mixer. I'm helping set up." He flashes that campus celebrity smile. "You should come."
"Pass," you say, trying to refocus on your notes. "Some of us prioritize academics."
"All work and no play," Jake tsks, leaning back in his chair. His foot nudges yours under the table—accidentally? You can't tell.
"Can we please get back to time series analysis?"
"Sure, sure," he concedes, but within minutes, he's tapping his pen rhythmically against the textbook, creating a distracting beat.
You grab the pen from his hand. "Jake. Focus."
He grins. "Sorry. Did you know you get this little crease between your eyebrows when you're concentrating? It's cute."
The comment throws you so completely that you lose your place in your notes. Jake takes advantage of your momentary disorientation to check his phone again.
"Don't you have a system?" you ask, frustration mounting. "A study schedule? Notes? Anything?"
Jake laughs. "I have a photographic memory. I just need to read through something once."
You stare at him in disbelief. "That's..."
"Unfair? Yeah, I know." He winks. "But we all have our strengths. Mine's memory. Yours is..." he gestures vaguely, "...being intensely organized, I guess."
You narrow your eyes, not sure if you've been complimented or insulted.
The pattern continues for a week. Jake shows up at your study spots with coffee, snacks, or once, inexplicably, a small potted cactus ("It reminded me of you—prickly but low-maintenance"). He asks insightful questions just often enough that you can't justify kicking him out, but he constantly interrupts with texts, stories, or unnecessary observations.
"Did you know the librarian at the front desk used to be a professional ballerina?" he whispers, leaning so close you can smell his cologne. "She performed with the National Ballet for ten years before blowing out her knee."
"Fascinating," you mutter, trying to ignore how his proximity makes your heart rate pick up. "Can we please focus on the practice problems?"
"I was focusing," Jake protests. "I finished the set fifteen minutes ago."
You glance down at his paper. Sure enough, all twenty problems are completed, with work shown in his surprisingly neat handwriting.
"How did you—I've only done eight!"
Jake shrugs, looking pleased with himself. "Photographic memory, remember? I read the chapter once."
"Then why are you even here?" you snap, frustration boiling over.
His expression softens into something unreadable. "Maybe I like the company."
You don't have a quick response for that.
-
The day before your Advanced Statistical Methods final, Jake suggests studying at his apartment "for a change of scenery." Against your better judgment, you agree.
You arrive to find his roommate Ethan headed out the door.
"You must be the competition," Ethan says with a knowing smile. "Good luck." He shoots Jake a look you can't interpret before leaving.
Jake's apartment is surprisingly neat, with an unexpected number of books lining the walls. You'd pictured a bachelor pad with pizza boxes and sports memorabilia, not this adult space with actual furniture and framed art.
"What? Did you think I lived in a frat house?" Jake asks, reading your expression with annoying accuracy.
"Kind of," you admit.
"I'm more than just the campus golden boy, you know." There's an edge to his voice you haven't heard before.
The study session starts out productively enough. You quiz each other on formulas, and Jake makes flash cards that actually help clarify a complex concept you've been struggling with.
Then, in the middle of explaining autocorrelation, Jake suddenly says, "I'm starving. Want pizza?"
Before you can answer, he's on the phone ordering, and somehow twenty minutes disappear into a conversation about the best pizza toppings (you: mushroom and olive, him: Hawaiian, which leads to a heated debate about pineapple as a legitimate topping).
When the food arrives, Jake insists on taking a study break. One episode of a show turns into three. When you finally check your watch, it's 11 PM, and you've accomplished maybe a third of what you planned.
"I should go," you say, gathering your notes.
"It's late. I can walk you home."
"I live in the north dorms. It's a fifteen-minute walk."
"Exactly. Perfect opportunity to quiz each other on regression analysis."
You want to say no, but he's already grabbing his jacket.
The night air is cool, and Jake walks close enough that your shoulders occasionally brush. True to his word, he quizzes you on formulas as you walk, and you're begrudgingly impressed by how much he actually knows.
At your dorm entrance, he hands you a final flash card. "Last one."
You take it, squinting in the dim light. Instead of a formula, it reads: "Coffee tomorrow morning before the final? 7 AM?"
You look up to find him watching you intently, his usual confident smile replaced by something more hesitant.
"I don't know if that's a good idea," you say slowly. "I have a morning routine before exams."
"Part of which includes coffee, right? I'll bring it to you. No study talk. Just caffeine and moral support."
You should say no. This whole "friendship" with Jake has already cut into your study time more than you'd like to admit. But there's something in his expression that makes you pause.
"Fine. But if you're late with my coffee, all bets are off."
His smile returns full force. "I wouldn't dream of it."
As you head into your building, you realize with a start that you've actually enjoyed spending time with Jake. Not that you'd ever admit it to him.
What you don't see is the way Jake's smile transforms into a triumphant grin as soon as you're gone. He actually pumps his fist in the air like he's just scored the winning touchdown.
"Phase two: complete," he whispers to himself, pulling out his phone to text Ethan. THIS IS TOO EASY, he types, adding three crying-laughing emojis. She's actually letting me walk her to her dorm. Tomorrow I'll sabotage her entire morning routine.
He strolls back toward his apartment, checking items off his mental Distraction Campaign list. Yet somewhere between his self-congratulation and plotting tomorrow's coffee delivery (he plans to be precisely seven minutes late—just enough to throw off her exam prep but not enough for her to give up waiting), he realizes he's humming.
Jake Sim doesn't hum. But here he is, practically skipping down the sidewalk, because he's seeing you again in less than twelve hours. For the plan, he tells himself firmly. Obviously just for the plan.
-
The Statistical Methods final comes and goes. Despite Jake's best attempts at sabotage, you still manage to edge him out by two points. His frown when Professor Rivera announces the scores is brief but noticeable before he slips back into his golden boy persona, all easy smiles and gracious congratulations.
"This calls for a celebration," he says afterward, falling into step beside you as you exit the classroom.
"Me beating you again?" you ask with a smirk.
"Our combined brilliance," he counters smoothly. "Dinner tonight? I know a place off campus that makes incredible pasta."
You hesitate. The study sessions were one thing—you could justify them as academic. But dinner? That sounds suspiciously like a date.
"I have to start my research paper for Political Economics," you say, which is true. The paper isn't due for two weeks, but your color-coded semester planner has tonight blocked off for outline development.
Jake's smile doesn't falter. "Perfect. I'll bring takeout to the library. Which section will you be in? The third-floor carrels or your usual table by the east windows?"
It's unnerving how well he knows your study habits.
"Fine. East windows. 7 PM." You shake your head, wondering when exactly you started agreeing to Jake Sim's proposals so easily.
Jake arrives at 6:58 PM with two bags of food that smell so divine you immediately realize how hungry you are. He pulls up a chair beside you—not across the table where a study partner would sit, but close enough that your elbows occasionally brush.
"I got you the mushroom ravioli," he says, unpacking containers. "And garlic bread. And tiramisu."
"How did you know I like mushroom ravioli?"
Jake grins. "You mentioned it during our pineapple-on-pizza debate. I pay attention."
The food is incredible, and despite your intentions to eat quickly and get back to work, you find yourself lingering over dinner, drawn into Jake's animated story about his disastrous first college party.
"So there I am, completely soaked, holding this stranger's pet iguana, while the campus police are knocking on the front door," he concludes, and you're laughing so hard you have to cover your mouth to avoid disturbing other students.
Jake reaches out and gently moves a strand of hair from your face. The gesture is so unexpected that you freeze.
"Sorry," he says, not looking sorry at all. "It was bothering me."
Perfect, Jake thinks, noting how you momentarily freeze at his touch. One small touch, ah-ah-ah! Another step in my master plan. He mentally checks off another item on his distraction checklist, feeling rather pleased with himself for how easily you've been thrown off your focus.
You clear your throat and turn back to your laptop, suddenly very interested in your research paper outline. "I should really get back to work."
"Of course," Jake says, but he doesn't leave. Instead, he pulls out his own laptop. "I've got some reading to do anyway."
Every few minutes, he shifts in his seat or sighs or taps his fingers on the table, each movement pulling your attention away from your work. You're about to snap at him when he leans over to look at your screen.
"Your outline structure is impressive," he says, genuinely. "I never thought to organize political theories that way."
The compliment catches you off guard, and you find yourself explaining your approach. Before you know it, an hour has passed discussing political philosophy instead of writing your outline.
"You're doing this on purpose," you accuse, suddenly realizing his game.
"Doing what?" He widens his eyes in mock innocence.
"Distracting me."
Jake places a hand over his heart. "I'm wounded. Can't I just enjoy intellectual conversation with the smartest person on campus?"
"Flattery will get you nowhere."
"Seems to be working so far," he says with a wink.
You roll your eyes and turn back to your laptop, determined to ignore him. It works for approximately five minutes before he slides a folded piece of paper in front of you.
Curious despite yourself, you open it to find a surprisingly good sketch of you concentrating on your work, complete with the small furrow between your eyebrows that he'd mentioned before.
"When did you do this?" you ask, startled.
"Just now. I dabble in drawing."
"Is there anything you're not good at?" The question comes out more sincere than you intended.
Jake's cocky smile falters for a moment. "Beating you, apparently."
There's a hint of genuine frustration in his voice that makes you look at him more closely. For a brief moment, the golden boy facade slips, and you catch a glimpse of something more complex beneath—ambition, insecurity, determination all mixed together.
Before you can respond, he stands up. "I should let you work. But first..." He hesitates, then plunges ahead. "Would you go out with me? Like, on an actual date. Not studying. Not takeout at the library. A real date."
You stare at him, speechless. This isn't part of your carefully planned semester. Dating Jake Sim doesn't fit anywhere in your color-coded schedule or your academic goals.
"Why?" you finally ask.
His smile returns, but it's different somehow—less practiced, more nervous. "Because I like you. Because you're the only person on campus who doesn't buy into my whole..." he gestures vaguely at himself,"...thing."
You stare at him blankly for a moment, then raise an eyebrow. "What 'thing'? Your dick?"
Jake's eyes widen in shock before he bursts out laughing, a genuine, unpolished laugh that's nothing like his carefully cultivated campus-celebrity chuckle.
"No! I meant—" he gestures vaguely again, still laughing, "—the whole golden boy persona. The Jake Sim Experience™."
"Oh," you say, fighting a smile. "I thought you were just being weird."
You should say no. Every logical part of your brain is screaming to reject this distraction from your goals.
"When?" you hear yourself asking instead.
Jake's face lights up with genuine surprise, as if he expected rejection. "Friday? 7 PM?"
"I have to work on my—"
"Political Economics paper, I know," he interrupts. "But even you need to take breaks sometimes. I promise to have you home at a reasonable hour, and I'll even help you with research on Saturday."
You find yourself nodding. "Okay. Friday."
"Okay," he echoes, looking so genuinely pleased that you momentarily forget this is Jake Sim, campus golden boy and your academic rival.
He gathers his things, still smiling. "I'll text you details."
As he walks away, you try to refocus on your outline, but your mind keeps drifting to Friday night. It's just one date, you tell yourself. What harm could it do?
-
Back at his apartment, Jake crosses off "Step 7: Secure actual date" from his Distraction Campaign list with a flourish.
"She actually said yes?" Ethan asks, looking up from his video game.
"Why do you sound so surprised?" Jake tosses his backpack on the couch and collapses next to it.
"Because she's smart enough to know better?"
Jake throws a pillow at his roommate. "The plan is working perfectly. I've already cost her at least ten hours of study time this week. By the time the Harrison Fellowship application is due, she'll be so off her game I'll finally beat her."
"And you're still convinced this is just about winning?" Ethan asks, pausing his game to give Jake a knowing look.
"What else would it be about?"
Ethan snorts. "You sketched her, man. You never sketch anyone."
"It was part of the distraction," Jake insists, but he finds himself pulling out the second drawing he made—the one he didn't give her, the one that captures her mid-laugh, eyes bright with intelligence and humor.
"Right," Ethan says, noticing the drawing. "Just make sure you know which one of you is actually getting distracted here."
Jake rolls his eyes. "Please. I'm totally focused. You should hear my internal monologues when I'm with her. I literally count every successful distraction tactic like I'm Count Dracula or something. 'One missed study hour, ah-ah-ah! Two coffee dates, ah-ah-ah!'"
Ethan stares at him for a beat. "Yeah, right. Because that's not what love sounds like at all."
"Right?!" Jake agrees enthusiastically. "It's pure strategy. Nothing else."
Ethan face-palms. "That was sarcasm, you idiot."
"Whatever." Jake waves him off, completely missing the point. "You'll see when I win the fellowship and she's wondering what happened to her perfect GPA."
-
Friday arrives faster than you anticipated. You spend an embarrassing amount of time choosing an outfit—something casual enough to maintain your dignity but nice enough to acknowledge this is, in fact, a date.
When Jake knocks on your door at precisely 7 PM, he's brought his A-game. Designer jeans, a button-down with the sleeves rolled up to showcase his forearms, and that calculated smile that's gotten him through every social situation since puberty.
"You look nice," he says, his eyes doing an appreciative sweep that makes you momentarily self-conscious.
"So do you," you reply, because it's true, even if you wish it weren't.
The restaurant he's chosen is a small Italian place tucked away on a side street downtown, far enough from campus that you're unlikely to run into other students. It's intimate without being overtly romantic, with exposed brick walls and soft lighting.
The conversation flows surprisingly well. Jake is charming when he wants to be, asking questions about your hometown, your family, your childhood dreams. You find yourself laughing at his stories, drawn in by the way his face lights up when he talks about his first debate tournament victory.
This is going perfectly, Jake thinks, watching you smile at something he's said. Phase three proceeding exactly as planned. Every minute she spends with me is a minute not spent on the Harrison application. By this time next month, that fellowship will have my name on it.
His internal victory lap continues through dessert, especially when he catches you staring at his mouth while he tells a story about his freshman year roommate.
After dinner, Jake suggests a walk along the riverfront. The night is cool but not cold, and the path is lit by old-fashioned lampposts that cast a golden glow on the water.
"So," Jake says, walking close enough that your hands occasionally brush, "this was nice."
"It was," you admit, surprising yourself with how much you mean it.
"We should do it again sometime," he suggests, stopping by the railing overlooking the river.
"Maybe," you say, unwilling to concede too easily. "I do have a lot of work to do on my fellowship application."
Jake takes a step closer, exactly as he'd planned during his pre-date strategy session with Ethan. "The fellowship isn't for another month," he says, his voice dropping lower. "Plenty of time for both work and... other things."
Before you can respond, he leans in and kisses you.
It's meant to be calculated—the perfect mix of confidence and restraint, designed to leave you wanting more, to occupy your thoughts when you should be focusing on academics. But something unexpected happens when his lips meet yours.
For a brief, disconcerting moment, Jake forgets the plan entirely.
Your response, the soft sound you make as your hands find his shoulders, the way you taste like the tiramisu you shared for dessert—it short-circuits his strategic thinking. When you pull back slightly, he follows, chasing your lips without conscious thought.
"That was..." you begin, sounding slightly breathless.
Jake quickly regains his composure, mentally adjusting his strategy. This is even better than I planned. She's completely flustered.
"Just the beginning," he finishes with a confident smile, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear. "If you want it to be."
You narrow your eyes slightly, as if trying to figure him out. "What's your angle, Sim?"
"No angle," he lies smoothly. "Just enjoying the moment."
You don't look entirely convinced, but when he leans in again, you meet him halfway.
-
Over the next week, Jake implements what he privately calls "Operation Kiss Distraction." The strategy is brilliant in its simplicity—physical contact prevents academic focus. And it works every time.
On Monday afternoon, you're reviewing notes for Professor Wright's Macroeconomics seminar when Jake slides into the chair beside you, coffee in hand.
"How's it going?" he asks, leaning close enough that his shoulder brushes yours.
"I need to finish these notes before—"
He silences you mid-sentence with a kiss, soft and deliberate. Your protest dissolves as his hand cups your cheek, tilting your face toward his. By the time he pulls away, you've forgotten what chapter you were reviewing.
"Before what?" he asks innocently, his thumb tracing your lower lip.
"I... don't remember," you admit, and Jake's smile is nothing short of triumphant.
On Wednesday, you're in the library's reference section, surrounded by economics journals for your fellowship research. Jake finds you there, pressing a kiss to your shoulder before you even realize he's arrived.
"How did you find me?" you ask, trying to maintain your focus on the article you've been highlighting.
"I always know where to find you," he murmurs, his lips moving to the sensitive spot below your ear. The highlighter slips from your fingers as he works his way along your neck, leaving a trail of heat in his wake.
"Jake," you protest weakly, "I have to finish this research."
"In a minute," he promises, turning your chair to face him. His kiss is deeper this time, more insistent. Your hands find their way into his hair as he pulls you to your feet, backing you against the shelves. The solid weight of the books behind you contrasts with the warmth of his body against yours, his mouth hot and demanding.
When he finally breaks the kiss, you're both breathing hard. Jake's usual perfectly styled hair is mussed from your fingers, his eyes dark with something that looks like genuine desire.
"See? Just a minute," he says with a grin, though it's been at least fifteen.
You try to remember what journal article you were reading, but your mind is blank, filled instead with the lingering sensation of Jake's mouth on yours.
-
By Friday, you've developed a Pavlovian response to his presence—one look from Jake across a room and your pulse quickens in anticipation. He knows it too, using it to his advantage.
During a study group at his apartment, he waits until the others are engrossed in problem sets before leaning close, his breath warm against your ear.
“Meet me in the kitchen.”
You shouldn’t go. You have work to do. But two minutes later, your book is forgotten, and you’re following him anyway.
The moment you step inside, Jake is on you. He shoves you against the counter, his mouth crashing into yours, hungry and insistent. His hands are already under your sweater, fingers skimming up your sides, making you shiver at the contrast of his heat against your skin.
“We shouldn’t,” you pant as his teeth scrape against your collarbone, his grip tightening on your waist. “Everyone’s right there.”
“Then be quiet,” he murmurs, lips dragging lower.
A moan slips out before you can stop it as he sucks a deep mark onto your throat, his tongue teasing the bruised skin before moving lower. His hands wander, slipping beneath the waistband of your shorts, fingers brushing over your soaked underwear.
“Fuck,” he exhales against your neck, pressing the pads of his fingers firmly over the thin fabric. “Already wet for me?”
Your breath hitches as he rubs slow, teasing circles, the pressure making your thighs shake. He chuckles, dark and low, before slipping his hand beneath the fabric, his fingers sliding against your slick folds.
You grip his shoulders as he works you open, curling his fingers just right, his pace unrelenting. Your body arches against him, desperate for more, but he doesn’t let up—doesn’t stop marking you, doesn’t stop driving you closer to the edge with expert precision.
“Cum for me,” he whispers against your skin, voice dripping with satisfaction. “Be a good girl and make a mess for me.”
And you do—your climax crashes over you, your body shuddering as his fingers continue their slow, torturous strokes, dragging it out until you’re barely holding yourself up.
He finally pulls back, admiring the deep red bruises blooming across your neck and chest, the way your body still trembles in the aftermath. He smooths a hand over your thigh, smirking as you struggle to catch your breath.
Twenty minutes later, you return to the study group, cheeks flushed, legs weak, lips swollen from his kisses. You pretend to focus, but you can still feel the ghost of his fingers between your thighs, the bruises throbbing like a silent confession.
Jake follows a minute after, looking impossibly composed, except for the self-satisfied smirk he can’t quite suppress.
Another productive session, he thinks, eyes flickering to the marks on your skin. She’s falling further behind every day.
-
The next Tuesday, after an especially intense makeout session that leaves you both disheveled and breathless, Jake captures your hands in his, expression suddenly serious.
"I've been thinking."
Your stomach tightens. Is this where he admits the whole thing has been a calculated distraction? That none of it meant anything?
"We've been doing... whatever this is... for a couple weeks now," he continues, his thumb tracing circles on your palm in a way that makes it hard to focus. "And I think we should make it official."
You blink, surprised. "Official?"
"Be my girlfriend," he says, flashing that perfect Jake Sim smile that's graced countless campus publications. "Properly."
It's the logical next step for his plan, he tells himself. Girlfriend status means more of her time, more distraction, more control over her schedule. It's strategic brilliance, not genuine desire. The flutter in his chest when she smiles up at him? Merely satisfaction with his own cunning.
"Okay," you agree, and he kisses you again, mentally checking off another item on his master plan.
Phase Four complete, Jake thinks triumphantly. This fellowship is as good as mine.
What Jake doesn't acknowledge, even to himself, is how often he finds himself thinking about you when you're not around. How he's started skipping his own study sessions to meet you. How his friends have noticed his GPA slipping while yours somehow remains steady.
"Dude, you missed the entire Econ study group yesterday," his friend Matt points out after class. "We're two weeks out from finals."
"I had something more important to do," Jake says, thinking of how you'd smiled against his mouth when he surprised you outside your afternoon lecture.
Matt looks skeptical. "More important than maintaining your GPA for the Harrison Fellowship? You've been working toward that since freshman year."
Jake shrugs it off, but the comment nags at him. Has he possibly overcommitted to his distraction strategy? Is he risking his own academic standing in the process?
He resolves to recalibrate, to find a better balance between distracting you and focusing on his own work. But that resolution lasts exactly as long as it takes for you to text him asking if he wants to meet at the library.
Just an hour, he promises himself. I'll kiss her senseless for an hour, then go back to my apartment and work on my application.
The hour turns into three, and he doesn't get any work done that night.
The pattern continues. Each time Jake thinks he's the one in control, each time he mentally tallies another successful distraction, he fails to notice how his own academic focus is slipping. How his perfectly organized planner is suddenly full of your name instead of study reminders. How he's started dreaming about you instead of his acceptance letter to Stanford.
-
"The plan is still on track," he insists when Ethan questions him. "She's completely distracted."
"And you're not?" Ethan asks pointedly, gesturing to Jake's phone that he's checking for the fifth time in ten minutes.
"Of course not," Jake scoffs, hastily putting his phone face-down. "I'm laser-focused on victory."
"Right," Ethan drawls. "That's why you've written her name in your planner instead of 'study for Econ final'?"
Jake slams the planner shut. "That's... strategic. So I remember when we're meeting to... implement distraction tactics."
"And the fact that you've started wearing cologne to the library?"
"Psychological warfare."
"You missed basketball with the guys to help her carry books."
"Building trust to maximize future distractions."
"You turned down Jessica Miller—who you've had a crush on since freshman orientation—because she asked you out on the same night you were supposed to see the protagonist."
"Commitment to the mission."
Ethan picks up a crumpled paper from Jake's desk and unfolds it. "And this poem?"
Jake snatches it away, cheeks reddening. "Research! I'm researching what kind of sappy stuff might further distract her."
"Uh-huh. And you've set her text tone to a special sound because...?"
"So I know exactly when my target is messaging me," Jake explains with the confidence of someone completely deluding himself.
"You literally have a framed photo of her on your nightstand."
"That's just to... remind me of the enemy."
Ethan throws his hands up in exasperation. "You planned your entire class schedule around hers for next semester!"
"Advanced strategic planning," Jake insists, even as he absently doodles her initials on his notebook margin. "The long game."
The truth—which Jake is nowhere near ready to admit—is that somewhere between calculated kisses and genuine laughter, between strategic touches and real conversations, his perfect plan has developed a fatal flaw:
He's falling for you. And he doesn't even realize it.
-
Jake wakes up in a cold sweat, staring at the calendar on his wall. Three weeks until the Harrison Fellowship deadline, and his plan is working too well—on himself.
"I need to recalibrate," he mutters, grabbing his planner. "Time for phase five: Total Disruption."
After a hurried breakfast, he texts Ethan his new strategy while walking to class.
"You're digging yourself deeper," Ethan replies immediately.
"Watch and learn," Jake types back with the unfounded confidence of a man about to step on a rake.
He implements the new tactics that very afternoon. When you mention needing to study at your apartment that night, Jake suggests studying together, kisses you until you agree, then "accidentally" falls asleep on your couch. By the time you wake him at 2 AM, neither of you has done any work, but he counts it as a win.
"Sorry, princess," he murmurs sleepily, using one of his new strategic pet names. "Guess I was more tired than I thought."
You raise an eyebrow at the nickname but let it slide. "You should go home and get some actual sleep."
"Or I could stay," he counters, pulling you down for another kiss. "Save myself the walk across campus."
It works. You let him stay, and Jake falls asleep feeling smug about another night of study time successfully sabotaged.
What he doesn't anticipate is waking to find you already up, quietly typing at your desk, wearing his sweatshirt from the night before.
"Morning, sleepyhead," you say without looking up. "Hope you don't mind I borrowed this. It's comfortable."
Jake stares, momentarily forgetting his master plan because something about seeing you in his clothes makes his chest feel tight. "I... no, that's... it looks good on you."
"Thanks," you reply, still focused on your laptop. "I made coffee. I've been up since six working on this fellowship essay. Having you here actually helped me focus—I didn't want to wake you by going out to the library."
Jake's smug feeling evaporates. "You've been working for three hours already?"
"Mmhmm. You're cute when you sleep, by the way. Very peaceful. Not at all like when you're awake and plotting world domination."
He's not sure which is more disconcerting—that his sleepover tactic completely backfired or that you called him cute.
The next day, he tries a new approach. While you're in the bathroom during a study session, he quickly closes all fifteen tabs on your laptop, thinking it will set your research back significantly.
You return, notice immediately, and sigh. "Did you close my browser?"
"Oh, did I?" Jake feigns innocence. "Sorry, I was just checking something and must have hit the wrong button."
"It's fine," you say, pulling out your phone. "I was using the cloud sync feature. See?" You tap a few buttons, and all fifteen tabs reappear on your laptop screen. "Everything's backed up automatically. Handy, right?"
Jake's smile feels brittle. "Super handy."
His attempt to hide your textbooks the following week is thwarted when you casually mention that you primarily use the e-book versions anyway. "They're searchable," you explain, showing him how quickly you can find specific information. "Much more efficient."
The emergency ice cream date he arranges the night before your Political Economics paper is due—which should have derailed your writing schedule—somehow turns into a productive discussion about Keynesian theory that actually helps you refine your thesis.
"This is exactly what I needed to tie my argument together," you tell him excitedly between bites of rocky road. "You're a genius, baby."
The casual endearment catches Jake so off guard that he chokes on his ice cream.
"You okay there, Jakey?" you ask, patting his back as he coughs.
"Fine," he wheezes, face red. "Just... went down the wrong way."
You continue using the nickname throughout the evening, each "Jakey" hitting him like a physical blow. It shouldn't affect him—it's just a name—but something about the affection in your voice when you say it makes his stomach flip in a way that has nothing to do with ice cream.
By the time he walks you home, Jake is thoroughly confused by his own reactions. This isn't part of the plan. None of it is.
The clothing swap attempt is perhaps his most spectacular failure. After a particularly heated make-out session at his apartment, Jake deliberately puts his t-shirt in your bag and hides the one you wore over.
"Can't find my shirt," you say, rummaging through your things the next morning.
"That's weird," Jake replies, feigning confusion. "Maybe it got mixed in with the laundry?"
"Probably," you agree easily, grabbing one of his shirts from his drawer. "I'll borrow this one, okay? I'm already running late for Richardson's lecture."
Jake watches in disbelief as you pull his shirt on, gather your books, and kiss him goodbye. The shirt is too big, sliding off one shoulder, but instead of looking disheveled, you somehow make it look deliberate and stylish. When you walk into lecture twenty minutes later, he overhears two girls complimenting your outfit.
"Isn't that Jake Sim's shirt?" one whispers. "They must be serious."
The comment shouldn't please him. It's supposed to be about making you late, not about public confirmation of your relationship. Yet he finds himself smiling anyway.
-
The text message barrage during your Advanced Economic Theory seminar is Jake's next carefully plotted distraction. He sets alarms for precise intervals, determined to make your phone buzz continuously throughout Hammond's lecture.
8:05 AM: Morning. Left a coffee on your desk. Hope Hammond doesn't bore you to death today.
8:13 AM: Still thinking about last night. The way you gasped when I touched you there...hard to focus in class right now.
8:19 AM: Prof Wilson just used your elasticity argument from last week. Didn't credit you though, the bastard.
8:24 AM: thinking abt you in that tiny red dress of yours, suddenly my dicks stood up like a perfectly inelastic supply curve
8:31 AM: Found that article you needed for your paper. I'll trade it for dinner tonight. Thai place just opened downtown.
8:36 AM: You look so good in that blue sweater. Even better when I was taking it off you yesterday.
8:42 AM: Remember what we did in the library stacks last week? I keep picturing you pressed against those books, trying not to make a sound.
8:47 AM: Study at my place tonight? Ethan's gone till morning. We can actually be loud for once. I love it when you're loud.
8:52 AM: The hickey I left on your inner thigh still there? Maybe I should check personally after class.
8:55 AM: Just realized I still have your underwear from Tuesday. You can have them back... or not. Your call.
The messages continue, alternating between casual conversation starters, blatant attempts to tempt you away from academics, strategic pet names (Jake has privately ranked their effectiveness, with "princess" at the top), and the memes he's carefully selected as backup distractions.
But when class ends, you emerge looking perfectly composed. "Phone on silent," you explain when he casually asks if you got his texts. "I always silence it during Hammond's lectures. He's strict about interruptions."
"Right," Jake says, deflated. "Smart."
"But I did see them after class," you continue, linking your arm through his as you walk across the quad. "The memes were funny. Nice distraction technique."
Jake glances at you, trying to gauge whether you're annoyed about the explicit messages.
"So..." he ventures, "the other texts didn't bother you?"
"Bother me? No." You give him a sly smile. "Though I'm pretty sure Hammond would've had a stroke if he'd seen what you wrote about perfectly inelastic supply curves."
Jake feels his face warm slightly, which is ridiculous because he's not the type to blush. "I meant every word."
"I know you did." You lean closer. "And yes to dinner tonight. Though I already found that article myself."
"I meant what I said about my place too," Jake says, his voice dropping lower as a group of freshmen pass by. "Ethan really is gone all evening."
You pretend to consider it. "I do have that study block scheduled..."
"I'll make it worth rescheduling," he promises, mouth close to your ear.
"You always think you're so irresistible, don't you, Jakey?" you whisper back.
There it is again—that fluttering in his stomach at the nickname. It's getting harder to ignore, especially the way it sounds so natural coming from your lips. Jake doesn't understand why his calculated pet names feel like strategic maneuvers while yours feel like treasured endearments.
"We'll see," he says, already thinking of ways to make you forget all about your study schedule tonight. Maybe he'll wear that shirt you like, the one that brings out his eyes. Maybe he'll suggest dessert after dinner. Maybe he'll use that cologne you always seem to lean in for.
Jake's so busy plotting his next move that he doesn't notice the knowing smile on your face—or the flash drive in your bag containing a nearly completed fellowship draft that you've been working on during the hours he thinks you're distracted.
-
Three days later, Jake implements what he considers his most strategic move yet: the extended weekend getaway. Under the guise of a romantic surprise, he books a cabin at a lakeside resort two hours from campus for the weekend before a major economics presentation you both need to prepare for.
"No internet," he tells you with what he hopes is a charming smile. "Just you, me, and nature for two days."
To his surprise, you seem genuinely excited. "That sounds perfect! I've been so stressed with all these deadlines. A break will help clear my head."
"Exactly," Jake agrees, already imagining how far behind you'll fall without internet access or your usual study materials. "It'll be... relaxing."
They arrive Friday evening, and Jake is pleased to discover the cabin is as rustic as advertised. No WiFi, spotty cell service, and blissfully isolated from neighboring cabins.
"It's beautiful," you say, walking onto the small deck that overlooks the lake. The setting sun casts everything in a golden glow, including your profile as you lean against the railing.
Jake finds himself staring, momentarily forgetting his ulterior motives. "Yeah," he agrees softly. "Beautiful."
You turn and catch him looking, and something in his expression makes you smile in a way that creates a strange tightness in his chest.
"So," you say, walking back to him slowly. "What should we do first in our internet-free paradise?"
Jake has a detailed plan for keeping you thoroughly distracted all weekend. It involves hiking, canoeing, cooking together, board games, and strategic makeout sessions whenever you mention anything remotely academic.
What he doesn’t plan for is how the isolation amplifies everything between you. Without the constant interruptions of campus life, without the pressure of appearing a certain way for classmates or professors, something shifts.
-
Friday night, you build a fire in the small stone fireplace, and Jake uncorks a bottle of wine he brought specifically to lower your academic defenses. One glass turns into two, which turns into lazy kisses on the couch that grow increasingly desperate, increasingly needy.
Your hands slip under his sweater, dragging over warm, taut skin, feeling the way his muscles flex under your touch. When you tug it over his head, he helps you, throwing it aside like it’s useless, like all he needs right now is you. Then he does the same with your shirt, his hands immediately returning to your skin, sliding up your sides, his rings cold and teasing against your heat.
“Fuck,” he breathes, staring at you, pupils blown. His hands roam, fingers grazing over your bare stomach, thumbs brushing up to your tits, teasing your nipples until they pebble under his touch. He groans, head tipping back for a second as if he’s trying to compose himself, but it’s useless. He’s already too far gone.
“You’re so fucking beautiful,” he murmurs, voice gravelly, unfiltered. It’s not calculated—just a raw, messy confession that makes your breath hitch.
You don’t answer. You just pull him back down, kissing him deeper, harder, tongue sliding against his as you push up against him. He moans into your mouth, low and needy, gripping your hips as you press closer.
“Bedroom,” you whisper between kisses, and he barely nods before hauling you up, hands firm under your thighs as he carries you there.
The cabin’s lone bedroom is small, but he barely notices it, too focused on the way firelight spills across your skin, making you look almost unreal. Almost untouchable.
But he does touch you.
He lowers you onto the bed, spreading you out beneath him, then he’s kissing his way down, taking his time, dragging his lips over your collarbone, your stomach, leaving a path of heat in his wake.
And then he’s between your thighs, spreading you open, eyes dark, his rings a sharp, cool contrast against your burning skin.
“Fucking hell,” he groans, voice already wrecked. “Look at you, baby. So fucking wet.”
You whimper as he trails his fingers through your slick folds, the sensation heightened by the hard, unrelenting press of his rings against your sensitive skin.
“Jake,” you whisper, thighs twitching as he spreads your folds with his fingers, watching the way you glisten in the dim light.
“Shit,” he breathes. “You’re dripping. You want me that bad?”
You nod, gasping when he drags his thumb over your clit, pressing down, rubbing slow, torturous circles. The metal of his rings makes it colder, sharper, and the sensation sends a full-body shiver through you.
“Fuck,” he mutters, almost to himself. “Need to taste you.”
Then he dives in, licking a long, slow stripe up your slit before wrapping his lips around your clit and sucking, hard.
You cry out, hands immediately burying in his hair, gripping tight, and Jake—Jake fucking moans so loud into you it vibrates through your whole body.
“Oh my god—Jake,” you whine, head falling back as he keeps going, licking, sucking, absolutely devouring you like he’s starving.
He groans again, his hips grinding into the mattress like he’s getting off just from tasting you, and the desperate, wrecked sounds coming from him make you even wetter.
Then he slides two fingers inside, and you swear you see stars.
“Holy fuck,” he pants against your thigh, thrusting his fingers in and out, his rings catching against your slick heat with every movement. “You’re so fucking tight. Jesus, baby.”
His fingers curl, finding that spot that makes your whole body jolt, and he moans again, practically whimpering against you as he watches you come undone beneath him.
“Listen to her,” he groans, voice shaking, fingers plunging deeper, faster, wetter. “Fucking talking to me, baby—your pussy’s talking to me—”
You sob his name, hips grinding against his mouth, and he loses it, sucking harder, fingers working even faster. The sounds are obscene—wet, messy, loud—but he loves it, loves how ruined you are, how ruined he is.
“You gonna come for me, pretty girl?” he rasps, pressing a kiss to your inner thigh, his lips slick with you. “Gonna make a mess all over my fingers, yeah?”
Your whole body tightens. The heat in your stomach snaps, and you cry out, thighs shaking as you come, clenching hard around his fingers.
Jake moans so loud it’s almost embarrassing, almost filthy the way he reacts to your pleasure like it’s his own.
He keeps moving, working you through it, voice a wrecked, desperate mess of praise. “That’s it, that’s my good fucking girl—holy shit, you feel so good—”
You whimper, body twitching from oversensitivity, and he finally slows down, pulling his fingers out, bringing them to his lips. He groans as he licks them clean, eyes dark and half-lidded as he stares at you.
Then he’s crawling up your body, kissing you breathless, letting you taste yourself on his tongue.
He’s lining himself up, pressing in, and the moment he pushes inside, his head drops back and he lets out the most wrecked, filthy moan you’ve ever heard.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck—” He sounds like he’s falling apart, like this is undoing him completely. His forehead presses against yours, his breath ragged. “Oh my god, baby, you feel—” He exhales sharply, shaking. “I can’t—I need to move—”
“Do it,” you whimper, nails digging into his back.
He groans as he starts thrusting, deep and slow at first, like he’s savoring the way you feel wrapped around him. But then you moan, rolling your hips up to meet him, and he breaks.
He picks up the pace, fucking into you hard, deep, the bed creaking with every movement.
And he’s so loud.
Every thrust rips another filthy moan from his throat, another wrecked gasp, another desperate curse as he loses himself completely.
“God, you’re so loud,” you tease, voice breathless but smug, knowing full well how completely undone he is.
His response is immediate—he gets louder. A shameless, broken groan rips from his chest, his head tipping back, fingers digging into your hips.
“You—fuck—” His voice cracks, his thrusts turning erratic. “You’re gonna—gonna make me—”
“Cum inside me,” you whisper, staring right into his dark, blown-out eyes.
Jake fucking breaks.
He lets out the filthiest, most desperate moan you’ve ever heard, his whole body shaking, his hips snapping against yours one last time as he spills inside you, burying himself deep, filling you up with everything he has.
After, he collapses against you, still shuddering, breath uneven, lips brushing over your skin as he whispers something you can’t quite hear, something too soft, too raw.
It wasn’t supposed to be like this. This was supposed to be a distraction. But as you drift off to sleep against his chest, Jake stays awake, staring at the ceiling, completely, utterly fucked in a way that has nothing to do with sex.
-
Saturday morning, Jake wakes to find you gone from the bed. Panic spikes through him momentarily before he hears movement in the kitchen. He pulls on sweatpants and pads out to find you at the small stove, wearing nothing but his button-down shirt from the night before, making pancakes.
"Morning, angel," he says, the endearment falling from his lips without conscious thought. He wraps his arms around you from behind, pressing a kiss to your shoulder, and is rewarded with a smile that does strange things to his heart rate.
"Morning, Jakey," you reply, turning to kiss him properly. "Sleep well?"
That nickname again. He should hate it—it's childish, diminutive—but when you say it, it feels like some private treasure between you.
"Very," he says, and means it. "Those look good."
"Blueberry pancakes. I found some berries in the fridge."
Jake blinks. Cooking breakfast together was on his distraction agenda, but you've already taken the initiative. He'd planned to get up early, hide your phone to prevent you from checking emails, and control the day's activities. Instead, he slept later than intended, and you seem perfectly content in this tech-free environment he designed to frustrate you.
After breakfast, you suggest a hike, another item from his distraction checklist that you've somehow adopted as your own idea. The fall morning is crisp and clear, perfect for exploring the trails around the lake.
"I needed this," you say as you walk hand in hand along a pine-scented path. "I've been so focused on the fellowship and finals that I forgot what it's like to just... breathe."
Jake feels a twinge of guilt. "You have been working really hard."
You squeeze his hand. "We both have. That's why this weekend is so perfect. A chance to reset before the final push."
The guilt intensifies. He's been working hard, yes, but not as hard as he should be. Not as hard as you. His grades have slipped over the past few weeks, his focus increasingly fragmented between his academic goals and his fixation on sabotaging yours.
The hike leads to a small clearing overlooking the lake. Without discussion, you both stop to admire the view. You lean back against Jake's chest, and he wraps his arms around you instinctively, resting his chin on top of your head.
It's peaceful. Simple. For a few minutes, Jake forgets about fellowships and competition and distraction strategies. He just exists in this moment with you, and it feels bizarrely right.
"Thank you for planning this," you say softly.
"You're welcome, princess," he replies, the pet name now coming naturally.
You turn in his arms, looking up at him with an expression he can't quite decipher. "I like when you call me that," you admit.
"Yeah?" Jake tucks a strand of hair behind your ear. "I like when you call me Jakey."
The admission surprises him as much as it seems to please you. You rise on your tiptoes to kiss him, soft and sweet, and something in Jake's chest aches.
The moment is interrupted by a distant roll of thunder. You both look up to see dark clouds gathering on the horizon.
"We should head back," Jake says, taking your hand. "Looks like rain."
You make it halfway to the cabin before the skies open. By the time you reach the porch, you're both soaked through and laughing. Jake pulls you inside, where the remains of the previous night's fire have left the cabin pleasantly warm.
“We should get out of these wet clothes,” Jake suggests, voice thick with heat, his smirk widening when he sees your eyes darken.
You don’t hesitate. Your soaked jacket hits the floor with a heavy plop, followed by your drenched shirt, clinging to your skin before you peel it off.
“Race you to the shower,” you tease, already backing toward the bathroom.
Jake growls low in his throat, tearing off his own clothes as he follows, jeans hitting the floor as he stalks after you.
The moment you step under the spray, hot water cascading down, he’s on you—pressing you against the cold tiles, kissing you deep, messy, hungry.
His hands roam your slick skin, fingers trailing up your waist, over your tits, down your stomach—gripping, groping, claiming. The sharp chill of his rings against your heated body sends a shudder through you.
Then you reach for his hand, dragging it to your mouth. Holding eye contact, you wrap your lips around his middle and pointer finger, sucking slow, obscene.
Jake chokes.
“Ngh— oh my fucking god—”
His hips jerk forward, cock twitching against your stomach, eyes blown wide as he watches you drag your tongue up the length of his fingers before pulling off with a wet pop.
“Jesus fucking Christ,” he groans, voice wrecked, and suddenly his mouth is at your ear, his breath hot, desperate. “Turn the fuck around.”
You obey without hesitation, pressing your hands flat against the tiles, arching your back just enough to tempt him.
Jake grips your hips, dragging his cock through your slick folds, teasing—
And then he slams inside.
“Fuck!” His moan is loud, raw, unfiltered, tearing from his throat as he buries himself to the hilt.
You gasp, gripping at the tiles as he stretches you open, splitting you apart. He barely gives you time to adjust before pulling out and slamming back in, setting a brutal, punishing pace that has you wailing.
“Louder,” he growls, voice shaking as he bites down hard on your shoulder, his hips snapping against you. “Fucking scream for me, baby.”
Your moans rise in pitch, gasping and broken, but it’s not enough for him.
“Fucking louder,” he snarls, gripping your chin and turning your head slightly. “Let everyone fucking hear what I’m doing to you.”
And fuck, that does it. You wail his name, voice cracking, high-pitched and desperate, and Jake fucking snaps.
“Oh my fucking god,” he groans, loud, no shame, no restraint. “That’s it, that’s my good girl—fuck, you’re so loud for me, fuck, fuck—”
His fingers slide between your legs, rubbing your clit in harsh, fast circles. “Come on, baby—come for me—fucking scream for me while I ruin this little pussy—”
Your body locks up, pleasure crashing over you in waves, your moans turning into sharp cries as you come hard, clenching down so tight around him.
Jake fucking loses it.
“Fuuuuck, oh my god, fuck, fuck, fuck—ngh—”
His voice shatters, his thrusts turning wild, his hands gripping your hips hard as he slams into you one last time and spills inside you, hips twitching, letting out the most wrecked groan you’ve ever heard.
“Ohhh fuuuuck—” His head tips back, mouth hanging open, the filthiest, most obscene moan tearing from his throat as his cock pulses inside you, filling you up.
He keeps thrusting, whimpering, riding it out, his forehead pressing to your shoulder, panting so hard he’s practically breathless.
Silence. Just the heavy, ragged sound of your breathing, the water pounding down over you both.
Then—Jake laughs, breathless, pressing a lingering kiss to your shoulder.
“Well.” His voice is wrecked, rough. “Guess I should’ve made you scream my fucking name sooner.”
-
Afterward, wrapped in the cabin's fluffy towels, you curl up together on the couch to watch the storm through the large windows. Jake pulls a blanket over you both, and you nestle against his side, fitting perfectly.
"This is nice," you murmur, already sounding half-asleep. "Just being here with you. No competition, no pressure."
Jake feels a fresh wave of guilt. "Yeah," he agrees quietly. "It is."
Eventually, you doze off, your head on his chest, one hand curled possessively on his stomach. Jake strokes your hair absently, listening to the rain and your steady breathing, trying to ignore the growing realization that he's no longer sure what game he's playing—or if he's playing one at all.
That evening, Jake cooks dinner as planned, but the romantic meal meant to keep you from studying now feels like something he wants to do for you rather than to you. He finds himself putting extra effort into the pasta sauce, adding spices he knows you like, opening the better bottle of wine he'd brought as a backup.
You set the small table by candlelight, and when you sit down to eat, the conversation flows easily—not about classes or the fellowship, but about childhoods and dreams and favorite books. Jake learns more about you in one dinner than he has in three years of competitive observation.
"I want to make a difference," you tell him when he asks about your post-graduation plans. "Economics isn't just about markets and money to me. It's about understanding systems that affect real people's lives."
"That's... actually really cool," Jake says, surprised by his own sincerity.
"What about you?" you ask. "Why economics?"
Jake opens his mouth to give his standard answer—the one about prestigious job opportunities and his father's expectations—but what comes out is something closer to the truth.
"I'm good at it," he admits. "And being good at things has always been important to me. Maybe too important."
You reach across the table to take his hand. "There's nothing wrong with wanting to excel."
"There is when it's the only thing that matters," Jake says quietly, the words emerging from some honest place he usually keeps carefully locked away. "When you'll do anything to win."
You study him for a moment, head tilted thoughtfully. "So when exactly were you planning to tell me that this whole relationship was just an elaborate scheme to distract me from winning the fellowship?"
The question hits like a physical blow. Jake stares at you, mouth actually dropping open. "What—how did you—"
"Please." You roll your eyes. "The timing was painfully obvious. You suddenly wanted to 'study together' right when applications opened? The constant texts during lectures? Accidentally closing my browser tabs? Hiding my books? The weekend getaway with 'no internet'?" You make air quotes with your fingers. "I've been onto you since day one, Jake Sim."
Jake runs a hand through his hair, completely thrown off script. "I—well—shit."
"Did you actually have a written plan? Like an actual document called 'How to Sabotage Her Academic Career'?"
Jake winces. "It wasn't called that exactly, but..."
"Oh my god, you did!" You start laughing, which confuses him even more. "Let me guess, you had phases? Codenames? Did you rank your distraction techniques by effectiveness?"
His silence confirms it all.
"You stupid dumb fuck," you say, shaking your head in disbelief. "I knew everything from the very beginning. Every single move. And you thought you were being so clever."
Jake stares at you for a moment, then his expression shifts from embarrassment to something closer to amusement. His lips quirk up at the corners.
"Baby, I'm so sorry," he says, though his tone makes it abundantly clear he's not sorry at all. He leans forward, lowering his voice. "But I'm also not at all because honestly? Fucking you, being with you is so fucking enjoyable that I don't care what I did to get here."
"Are you serious right now?" You're caught between outrage and reluctant admiration at his audacity.
Jake shrugs, completely unrepentant. "The plan was stupid, sure. But it got us here. And here..." he reaches for your hand across the table, "...is pretty damn good."
"You're unbelievable," you tell him, though you don't pull your hand away.
"I know," he grins, completely missing the criticism. "So, do I need to grovel, or can we skip to the part where you forgive me because you've been playing me just as much as I've been playing you?"
After dinner, you curl up together in front of the fireplace with the second bottle of wine. The storm continues outside, rain pattering against the windows, making the cabin feel even more isolated from the rest of the world.
"Tell me something you've never told anyone," you challenge, your head in Jake's lap as he plays with your hair.
He considers for a moment. "I almost transferred after freshman year."
You sit up, surprised. "Really? Why?"
"Because of you, actually," Jake admits. "You beaten me in every class we shared, and I'd never... I wasn't used to being second best. I thought maybe I wasn't cut out for this university after all."
"What changed your mind?"
Jake meets your eyes. "Pride. Stubbornness. I couldn't let you win like that."
"So you stayed just to beat me?" You sound more amused than offended.
"I stayed to prove I could," Jake corrects. "And then it became about more than that. About actually learning, actually growing. Having you as competition made me better."
You smile, leaning in to kiss him softly. "You make me better too, you know. You push me to work harder, think differently."
The kiss deepens, wine and confessions making you both bolder. Before long, you're straddling his lap, the blanket fallen to the floor as his hands grip your thighs.
“Take me to bed, Jakey,” you murmur against his ear, voice dripping with heat, but your body is soft, pliant against him.
Jake groans, gripping your thighs tighter before standing, lifting you with ease, your legs locked around his waist. His arms wrap securely under you as he walks the short distance to the bed, his lips dragging over your jaw, your neck, your shoulder—like he can’t stop touching you.
The bed creaks as he lowers you onto it, but instead of diving in like usual, he hesitates. Hovering over you, eyes dark, his fingers trailing over your ribs, your stomach, up to your collarbones.
For once, he’s not rushing.
This time is slower, more deliberate.
Jake peels your clothes off piece by piece, kissing each newly exposed patch of skin, his mouth reverent, like he’s memorizing every inch of you. He lingers at your stomach, your hips, your inner thighs—leaving soft, open-mouthed kisses, his breath hot against your sensitive skin.
And you do the same, taking your time dragging your hands down his torso, feeling the muscles tense under your fingertips. You push down his briefs, freeing him completely, and the way his cock twitches in anticipation makes your thighs press together.
Then—finally—he sinks into you.
And it’s so fucking much.
The stretch, the heat, the way his hips press flush against yours, leaving no space between you. His forehead drops to your shoulder, a wrecked, trembling breath escaping him as he fully seats himself inside you.
He doesn’t move. He just stays there, buried to the hilt, breathing hard, his body shaking like he’s about to fall apart.
You feel everything—every pulse, every twitch, every inch of him pressing so deep inside you it makes your breath hitch.
“Jake,” you whisper, voice soft, fingers threading through his hair. “Look at me.”
Nothing.
He’s still hiding—head tucked against your neck, panting against your skin, avoiding your eyes like he’s afraid of what he’ll see.
“Jakey,” you murmur again, voice lilting, teasing. “Baby, look at me.”
Still nothing.
So you smack him.
“Ow—what the fuck?” he sputters, head snapping up.
And you take advantage of his shock—grabbing his face, cupping his jaw, forcing him to look at you.
The moment his eyes finally meet yours, something shifts.
His pupils are blown, his lips parted, his breathing erratic. You watch his throat work as he swallows hard, his body stiffening above you.
And then—his gaze drops.
Straight to your tits.
“Ohhh, fuck,” he groans, completely mesmerized, and instead of thrusting, instead of moving at all—he just stares. “Holy shit.”
You smack him again.
“Jake!”
“SORRY!” He grins, voice breathless, but his eyes don’t leave your chest. “It’s just—you look so fucking good—”
“You dumbass, I said look at me,” you growl, yanking his chin up—forcing his eyes back on yours.
He exhales sharply. And this time, he listens.
Eyes locked on yours, he lowers himself, lips grazing over your collarbone, trailing lower—lower—until his mouth finallycloses over your nipple.
“Ohhh, fuck,” you moan, your back arching into him as his tongue flicks over the sensitive bud.
Jake groans, low and deep, sucking hard, his lips wrapping around the soft flesh, but his eyes never leave your face.
“That’s it, baby—” His voice is thick, raspy, hot against your skin. “Wanted my fucking eyes? You got ’em.”
Fuck, it’s so much worse.
The way he’s sucking on your tits, so focused, so intent, his hips starting to rock against you in slow, deep thrusts—never breaking eye contact.
“You’re gonna watch me, baby,” he breathes, pressing wet, open-mouthed kisses over your skin between every filthy suck. “Gonna watch me fucking ruin you.”
You whimper, clenching hard around him, and his groan vibrates against your breast.
“Oh my fucking god,” he chokes, voice breaking. “*You’re squeezing me so fucking tight—ngh—fuck, baby, you feel so good.”
You’re a mess now, panting, gasping, fingers threading through his damp hair, pulling him closer.
“Jake— ohhh my god—”
“Louder,” he demands, voice rough, biting just hard enough to make you cry out. “Scream for me, baby—let me fucking hear you.”
And you do.
You moan his name so loud, your body shaking beneath him, and Jake fucking loses it.
“Fuuuuck— baby—fuck, you’re gonna make me—ngh—”
His hips snap forward, pace turning desperate, his breath coming in wrecked, gasping moans as he buries himself inside you, his cock hitting so deep it makes your vision blur.
“Come with me,” he pleads, voice wrecked, his thumb finding your clit, rubbing rough, frantic circles. “Fuck, please,”
The coil snaps.
Your orgasm rips through you, your walls squeezing around him so hard it has Jake shouting.
“Ohhh fuuuuck—”
His whole body trembles as he spills inside you, his hips twitching, his moans so loud, so filthy, his eyes still locked on yours even as he completely falls apart.
His thrusts stutter, erratic, drawing out every last wave of pleasure until he’s completely drained, panting, shaking, forehead pressed against yours.
A few moments pass, the air thick with heat and heavy breathing.
Then—Jake huffs a breathless laugh.
“Did you really fucking smack me?” he murmurs against your skin.
You smirk, breathless, fingers still buried in his hair. “Wouldn’t have had to if you weren’t a goddamn tit guy.”
Jake grins. “Guilty.” He kisses your collarbone, then your throat, then your jaw. “But can you blame me?”
You roll your eyes, legs still locked around his waist. “Just shut up and hold me, Jakey.”
And this time—he does.
"I think I'm falling for you," he says quietly, the words slipping out in the darkness before he can consider their implications.
You're silent for a moment, and Jake holds his breath, suddenly terrified. Then you prop yourself up on an elbow, looking down at him in the moonlight.
"I know," you say with a small smile. "Your distraction campaign has been pretty obvious."
Jake's eyes widen. "You knew?"
"Of course I knew. I've been competing with you for three years. I know how your mind works." You trace his jawline with one finger. "What I couldn't figure out was when it stopped being a strategy and started being real."
"I'm not sure I know either," Jake admits. "Maybe it was real from the beginning, and I just didn't want to admit it."
You lean down to kiss him, soft and sweet. "For what it's worth, I'm falling for you too. Even though you're still a competitive jerk sometimes."
"And you're still an academic show-off," he retorts, but he's smiling as he pulls you back down against his chest.
As you drift to sleep in his arms, Jake realizes with a start that he hasn't thought about the Harrison Fellowship once all evening. More surprisingly, he doesn't care.
-
Sunday morning brings clear skies and the reluctant awareness that their weekend escape is coming to an end. Jake wakes to find you already up, sitting cross-legged on the end of the bed with your laptop open.
"I thought there was no internet here," he says, sitting up groggily.
"There isn't," you confirm. "But I downloaded all my research documents before we left. I've been working on my fellowship application."
Jake blinks, his brain still foggy with sleep. "You... what?"
You glance at him over your shoulder. "I've been up since six. Thought I'd get some work done before you woke up."
"But this was supposed to be..." Jake trails off, realizing too late what he's about to admit.
"A way to keep me from working on my application?" you finish, arching an eyebrow. "Yeah, I figured that out about five minutes after you invited me."
Jake groans, falling back against the pillows. "Am I that transparent?"
"Only to me," you assure him, closing your laptop and crawling up the bed to kiss him. "And I came anyway, because I wanted to spend the weekend with you. But I'm still going to win that fellowship."
"You're terrifying," Jake informs you, pulling you down for a proper kiss. "And impressive."
"I know," you reply with a smirk that reminds him exactly why he's been obsessed with you for three years.
They spend their final morning at the cabin making love once more before reluctantly packing up to return to campus. The drive back is comfortable, your hand resting on Jake's thigh as he drives, the radio playing softly in the background.
As the campus comes into view, Jake feels a strange reluctance to return to reality—to classes and competition and the looming fellowship decision. The weekend has changed something fundamental between you, but he's not sure how it will translate back to real life.
"What now?" he asks as he pulls into a parking space outside your dorm.
You turn to face him, expression serious. "Now we both work our asses off on our applications, ace our finals, and see what happens. No sabotage, no distractions."
"And us?" Jake asks, surprised by how much your answer matters to him.
"Us is separate from the competition," you say firmly. "I want to be with you, Jake. But I'm still going to try to beat you in every class."
Jake laughs, relief washing over him. "I wouldn't have it any other way, princess."
You lean across the console to kiss him goodbye, lingering longer than necessary. "See you tomorrow, Jakey. I've got a fellowship application to finish."
As he watches you walk away, Jake is struck by the realization that for the first time since freshman year, he doesn't care if you beat him. He just wants you both to succeed.
-
Back at his apartment, Ethan takes one look at his face and bursts out laughing.
"Oh man, you've got it bad," he says, shaking his head. "What happened to 'Total Disruption'?"
Jake collapses onto the couch with a groan. "It all backfired. Spectacularly. She knew what I was doing the whole time."
"No shit," Ethan says, not even looking up from his game. "Everyone knew. You weren't exactly subtle."
"What do you mean everyone knew? I was totally subtle!"
Ethan pauses his game and turns to face Jake, exasperation written all over his face. "Dude. You literally canceled a meeting with your fellowship advisor because she texted asking if you wanted coffee. You've been walking around campus with this dopey smile for weeks. You drew her. Multiple times."
"That was part of the plan!" Jake protests.
"The plan you spent more time talking about than actually studying for the fellowship you supposedly care so much about?"
Jake opens his mouth to argue, then closes it. "Okay, but here's the thing—"
"No," Ethan holds up a hand. "Here's the thing. You're in love with her. You have been for weeks. Maybe months. Maybe years, who knows?"
"I just realized it today," Jake admits quietly.
"TODAY?" Ethan throws his hands up. "Oh my god. I literally told you this would happen the day you made your stupid plan! Day one, I said, 'You're going to fall for her,' and you said, 'No way, it's purely strategic.'"
"I didn't think—"
"Obviously!" Ethan's practically shouting now. "You've been so busy convincing yourself this was all some master scheme that you completely missed what everyone else could see from a mile away."
"It wasn't that obvious," Jake mutters defensively.
"You FRAMED a PHOTO of her! It's on your NIGHTSTAND!"
"That was to remind me of my enemy—"
"Oh my GOD, will you STOP?" Ethan throws a pillow that hits Jake square in the face. "Just admit it. The great Jake Sim, master strategist, completely played himself."
Jake is silent for a long moment, then sighs heavily. "Fine. You were right. I played myself. I fell for her. Hard. Are you happy now?"
"Ecstatic," Ethan deadpans. "So what's the plan now, Romeo?"
Jake stares at the ceiling, thinking about your parting words. About competition and companionship, about winning and wanting.
"The plan," he says slowly, "is to stop planning so much and just... see what happens."
"Revolutionary," Ethan rolls his eyes. "What about the fellowship?"
Jake sits up, a new determination settling over him. "I'm still going to try to win it. But not by sabotaging her—by actually earning it. And if she wins instead..." He pauses, surprised to find he means what he's about to say. "Then she deserves it."
"Who are you and what have you done with Jake Sim?" Ethan asks, though his sarcasm has softened slightly.
Jake's phone buzzes with a text from you. He checks it immediately, a smile spreading across his face at the message: Missing my Jakey already. Study date tomorrow? I'll bring the coffee if you bring those amazing notes from Richardson's lecture.
"Case in point," Ethan says, watching Jake's expression change. "Completely whipped."
"I am not—"
"Just answer your girlfriend and spare me the denial," Ethan cuts him off, turning back to his game.
Jake ignores him, typing back: It's a date, princess. I'll even let you borrow my sweatshirt again.
Your reply comes seconds later: Bold of you to assume I was planning to give the first one back.
The warmth that spreads through Jake's chest at your message is undeniable, as is the realization that his perfect plan has completely, utterly, wonderfully failed.
Because the truth—which he's finally ready to admit—is that somewhere between calculated kisses and genuine laughter, between strategic touches and real connections, Jake Sim has done the one thing he never planned on:
He's fallen in love with his greatest rival. And he couldn't be happier about it.
fin.

nanami x reader - w.c 3k, marraige of convenience, mentions of societal pressure but everything is consensual!, nsfw, mdni!
without even meeting him, you agreed to marry nanami kento without any expectations of future love, romantic or otherwise.
the pairing is advantageous for the both of you; you get access to the impressive nanami family fortune that has grown substantially now that kento is managing it, while he gets to enjoy a close association with your prestigious family and the subsequent educational opportunities that your children will benefit from. it's sensible and by far the best option you'd been presented with.
you've exchanged letters with him, polite and concise. you can read between the lines and see that he shares a disillusioned view of jujutsu society, but is more than willing to step up for the good of his family.
you weren't coerced by anyone. far from it -- your mother and father had sat you down and asked if you were sure, that they would understand if you wanted to take more time or to choose a different path for yourself altogether.
but you know the rest of society would not be so kind or understanding. marriage between two sorcerers, as antiquated as it seems, is how you survive amongst all of these competitive, power-hungry families.
from what you've read and heard about him, nanami will provide stability. he's progressive in his thinking, and so wont expect anything from you that he wouldn't be willing to do as well. you've learned that he's a teacher at tokyo tech, and has received glowing reviews; he'll be a good father.
and so on this misty thursday morning, you lay eyes on your fiancé for the first time as he slips a ring on your finger and promises to stay by your side forever.
the ceremony is as bare-bones as your reputation will allow. the guest list doesn't hit the triple digits, a huge departure from society norms, but representatives from the major houses sit in floral-clad wooden chairs to watch you repeat the words that the officiant speaks in your direction.
nanami takes your hands in his. they're warm, which is nice. this dress isn't designed for November weather, but it's an heirloom -- and truthfully, you're glad to be wearing it. you'd never given much thought to a wedding, but it makes your mother and grandmother very happy.
you'd be lying if you said you weren't relieved to discover how handsome nanami is. you were previously shown a few polaroids of him -- staff pictures, mostly, but some with the rest of his family -- and had known he wasn't bad-looking, but the pictures weren't clear enough to give you a proper understanding of his looks.
his blond hair is styled neatly, not a hair out of place. he has nice features, strong jawline and cheekbones, and soft eyes, a good combination. you know his gaze can be piercing when he wants it to be, but now, he looks at you gently.
you know you made the right decision.
more vows, a kiss, and you're married.
___
the reception goes mercifully smoothly. the mix of guests -- powerful sorcerer family heads, rich businesspeople, and just a few of your personal friends -- didn't appear to gel too well on paper, but they mostly stick to their own factions. you greet them all until your vocal cords grow tired.
a meal is served on plates so ornate it makes you feel awkward eating off them. you nurse a glass of wine for most of the evening and nanami does the same, politely waving off the servers who approach to refill his glass.
a promising sign that he doesn't feel the need to drown his sorrows. this is a marriage of convenience, yes, but you'd like to be able to get along reasonably well with your spouse.
and, to his credit, he's been making light conversation with you all evening. he doesn't dip into deep or uncomfortable topics like your marriage or future plans, figuring that's best saved for later, but he asks you questions about yourself. by the end of the evening, you feel safe enough to allude to your desire for a future somewhat outside society's norms -- "I've always wanted to travel, honestly. maybe ... spend a few years abroad" -- and, to your pleasant surprise, he doesn't rebuff them. if anything, he seems somewhat pleased.
you have another glass of wine and before you know it, it's the early hours of the morning. you're nowhere near tipsy but feel ready for bed, ready to wipe off this makeup and slip into something more comfortable; thankfully, guests have started to slip out one by one, with only immediate family remaining.
your unpleasant and friendless older cousin makes a joke about you needing to say your goodbyes to 'go please your husband', and nanami's face sours for the first time all evening. your cousin notices and sheepishly takes a drink, mumbling something about it being his time to leave too.
with some final hugs to your respective families, it's time to leave with ...
... with your husband.
in his last letter before the wedding, nanami agreed that your city-centre apartment would be the best place to live in the first few weeks of your marriage, until you find somewhere more permanent that suits you both, and so that's where you go.
you show him around each room, including some storage space where his luggage had been delivered this morning. interspersed with some more small talk, you explain that although it's small, it's well placed for both of you to get to work. he smiles and nods, thanking you with a warmth that doesn't feel forced.
you offer him some tea or whiskey; he says he's fine.
you yawn. he loosens his tie, clearly exhausted himself.
the last room you show him is your bedroom, and it becomes harder and harder not to address the elephant in the room. there's very clearly no second bed, no room for him to stay that wouldn't necessitate a lot of closeness between the two of you.
the silence hangs heavy and loaded, both of you waiting for the other to speak.
well. this is one issue you hadn't covered before the ceremony.
you have no issue with a sexual relationship -- in fact, you're somewhat looking forward to it, having spent the evening admiring the way nanami's shirt hugs his strong arms and chest. but you're not sure if tonight, the first night you've ever met, is the best night to start.
sure, the concept of the wedding night speaks for itself, but it's not as black-and-white in your situation. he might want to spend some time settling in, first. he might not even be that interested in you.
"want me to take the couch?" he asks quietly, with no hint of resentment or offence in his voice. he makes the offer with a sincerity you haven't heard from a man in a long time.
you don't break your silence, but not because you're uncomfortable or anything of the sort -- you're just assessing your options.
"there's nothing i expect from you, just so you know," he continues, and you turn your head to face him, seeing his eyes scan your face for any sign of unease. "the last thing i want is for you to do ... this ... out of obligation or pressure. we have a lifetime to get to know each other, to reach that point -- i want you to be comfortable around me."
your upbringing has made you a sceptic, a pessimist at times, but for some reason, you believe him. maybe it's the look in his eyes, or the fact that he's taken your hand in his own, interlocking your fingers, but there's something about him that sets him aside from normal sorcerers.
he seems real. he seems as though, powers and fortunes and family names aside, he has some substance about him.
"do you want to?" you ask then, voice almost inaudible quiet from a day spent conversing with guests at your wedding.
he doesn't hear you, so he dips his head in your direction; you repeat yourself and wait, hoping you hadn't pressed the issue.
his composure doesn't crack, but something flashes in his eyes as he processes your question. he has such control over the movements of his features, over every expression in his body, except for his eyes, you think.
maybe you just happen to be good at reading him.
he mulls it over for a second, his grip on your hand never slacking.
"i want to," he finally admits. "i've wanted to for a while, truthfully. I've spent a lot of late nights picturing how it would feel to be inside you, to hear what my name sounds like when you say it. but i only want that if you want it too."
you smile without meaning to. "you imagined that from just reading a few letters?"
"yes, and it's a testament to my trust in my new wife that I'm telling you that," he replies, still polite but tinged with amusement.
it feels strange standing at your bedroom doorway, hand in hand with this almost-stranger, imagining what it would be like to indulge in these thoughts you've both been having, spending your first night together tangled up in the sheets and allowing some of the indulgence you've long denied yourself.
duty gets tiring. for a long time, you've been unsure what it feels like to genuinely want something.
now, you're pretty sure it feels something like this. it's organic and unforced, a natural desire that sends heat curling in the pit of your stomach.
wordlessly, you guide nanami into your room, closing the door behind you. there's a hint of a smile on his lips as you ask him for help to untie your wedding dress, the intricate pattern of buttons trailing up your spine proving too technical for your own hands. he's methodical in his work, careful to not damage the delicate clasps.
soon your dress is loose around your hips, your chest covered by the thin slip you wore underneath. you set the garment carefully aside before returning the favour and starting to undo nanami's shirt, avoiding eye contact as your hands expose more and more of his bare chest.
you want to do this, you know that for sure, but that doesn't mean you won't feel a bit of awkwardness at the start. you're not well practiced, having had too busy a life for romantic relationships until now. you hope that instinct will kick in sooner than later, but you've no doubt nanami will help you along the way.
when you finally build up the nerve to glance up at him as he shrugs off the shirt, he's looking at you as though you're the only person he ever wants touching him.
you hear the soft clink of metal and realise he's undoing his belt.
"are you sure?" he asks one more time.
that one question, and the earnestness with which he speaks, erases the last shred of doubt you had. you place your trust in him for the second time today.
you nod and reach across to his belt in the same breath, helping him pull it free from the loops to be tossed by the armchair near your desk.
you move as though controlled by something other than yourself, the decisions coming so naturally it feels as though you've been imagining it for weeks as well.
and maybe you have, you think to yourself, as you confidently guide him back slowly until he's sitting down on the plush armchair, his suit pants still on as you crawl onto his lap, pressing your chest against his. the thin fabric of your slip means you can feel the heat of his body against your skin, nipples hardening as they graze against his muscles.
you've just about balanced yourself, carefully perched on his lap when you feel his hand on the nape of your neck, pulling you in for a kiss that has you grinding against his thighs before you can even catch your breath.
you've never been kissed like this. the few kisses you've had before have been with partners who see you as a means to an end, be it for your family name, your reputation, or just for sex. you've never been kissed by someone who seems to get more from your pleasure than from his own.
you now know he meant it when he said he's been picturing this.
you kiss him for as long as you can, and you're not sure if it's for seconds, minutes, hours. you kiss him until there's a heat burning between your thighs you can no longer stand, that you need to have satiated by the visible, prominent bulge in the front of his suit pants.
when you finally break away, lips numb and kiss-slick, nanami's hair is touselled - you don't remember running your hands through them, but you must have at some point - and he reaches up to run his fingers under the straps of your slip, asking with his eyes if he can guide them off your shoulders.
you nod, and your chest is exposed to the cool night air for a split second before nanami's mouth is on one of your nipples, tongue circling the sensitive skin and making you cry out.
one of the words you moan must be his name, because you feel him smile as he turns his attention towards the other nipple, hands now at the small of your back to keep you close to him.
you can't take it much longer. you need to be touched so badly, you didn't even think you were capable of wanting it this much -- and you only want him to do it, now and maybe forever.
maybe he can read your mind or maybe you babbled out the request, but nanami finally takes pity on you, giving your nipple one final lick before resting his shoulders back against the cushion of the armrest and sliding his hands up your thighs, hooking your underwear with his fingers -- you lift your hips up to let him slip them off.
his composure slips further when he finally touches you between your legs, feeling how wet you've gotten for him, seeing how you react when he slips his index finger inside.
your head falls back and you hold a breath, focusing all of your attention on the sensation of him inside you, on the way he curls the digit ever-so-slightly before pulling it out and fucking you with two this time, almost -- almost -- tipping you over the edge.
"such a pretty wife," he mumbles almost under his breath, voice and gaze reverent as he watches you rock yourself against his hand. "my beautiful, perfect wife, aren't you?"
you want to answer him but can't, lungs feeling near-empty as you fumble with the buttons of his pants.
"i will never be able to think of anything else but you, i think," he muses, half-smiling. "you in my lap ... you making those pretty little noises ... i might be a ruined man, you know. and I'm glad of it."
he only stops speaking when you finally get your hand on his clothed cock, his breath catching in his throat as you trace it with your fingers.
you want tonight, the first of many times together, to start with you cumming on your husband's cock.
nanami just watches as you finally pull him out of his underwear, his length thick and hard in your hand as you give it a few messy strokes. it's all the both of you can manage before you need to have it inside you -- you shift your hips to sit on it, nanami's eyes fixed on the site of the head slipping inside.
it's a stretch, as you expected, but one you've been craving since you closed the bedroom door. you take him inch by inch, lowering yourself down as his breath quickens, clearly battling the urge to thrust up inside you.
but he's careful with you, and doesn't want to hurt you. his wife.
you lift yourself up too much and his cock slips out, slapping aginst his stomach and you nearly cry at the sudden emptiness, eager and clumsy as you guide him back inside you.
he kisses you when you sink down next, tongue massaging your own until the feeling of almost-too-full turns to a perfect, satisfying heat in your core.
eventually you're ready to quicken the pace, bouncing on his cock before long, your mind working too fast for you to keep up as you see nanami's cheekbones flush pink, his pupils dark as you ride him until your thighs ache.
you power through the sensation, nanami helping you along by meeting your hips with his, his thumb tracing uneven circles on your puffy clit. he calls you perfect and other beautiful words; you don't say anything besides more, more and, soon after, nearly there, nearly there, please, please, I'm so close --
your entire body lights up with the most wonderful sensation, hitting you like a wave and sweeping you away in its warm glow, with nanami's hands now on your hips, guiding your movements in exactly the way you need it -- not too hard, not too slow, not too fast.
you're still pulsing around him when you feel his body stiffen, his strong thighs tensing as he groans through gritted teeth. he pulls you in for a crushing kiss as he finishes, filling you up and thrusting as deep as he can until oversensitivity takes over.
the afterglow has you a contented and exhausted mess, muscles aching but satisfied in a way you'll spend forever seeking.
reluctantly, you slip off his cock to retake your place on his lap, marvelling at how undone you both have become, a far cry from your perfect wedding appearance.
you look perfect to him, though, you know as much from the kiss he presses to your sweaty forehead and the way his arm wraps around your shoulders.
"we didn't even make it to the bed," you observe, eyebrows raising as you finally return to your own body. "i ... wasn't expecting that."
"we have a lifetime to spend in bed," he replies, a smile in his voice.
and once again, for reasons you still don't understand, you believe him.

Dpxdc AU: Damian decides that it’s time to go collect his brother from his assignment. Danny is starting to sniff out some non-ghostly bullshit for once.
Damian knew his twin had been exiled from the age of seven, banished to travel and observe how scientists around the world engaged with Lazarus water. The only word that Damian received that his spare was still alive were the letters of lab reports and findings that were sent back to base. As the Heir, he’s pushed to be better lest he himself be exiled or simply executed. Danny becomes a fleeting thought and then once Damian arrived in Gotham, a none existent thought.
They weren’t raised to be friends or even friendly. The were not taught codependency or allotted time to bond. The could have been perfect strangers if not for their appearance and the stories of Danny’s shortcomings becoming Damian’s praise.
It’s only once Tim informs him of an intercepted letter, one sent and saved from years prior, that Damian recalls Danny enough to care. Tim prompts him to share more, especially given the coup recently committed by Deathstroke (Slade) and Talia gone into hiding with her zealots.
At family dinner that night Damian supplies: “I suppose I should be the one to bereave my twin of his assignment. His reports will certainly go unread.”
Chaos in the Batfam ensues- meanwhile across the country- Danny sneezes and finishes writing his yearly report: “No major discoveries aside from public record patents (attached), No assistance required. -Spare”. He doesn’t know why he bothers, he hasn’t received any contact from his mother or grandfather since he was 10ish and certainly hasnt thought about his twin. But, if there’s a chance (even an itty bitty one) that his reports are being read and are holding off his reassignment, he’d rather keep assassins out of Amity Park.
Little does he know that this letter is about to be intercepted by Pru, former assassin and friend of Tim Drake. He hadn’t expected his twin to suddenly arrive and tell him that his job was done. And certainly, seeing a plane filled with an uncomfortable looking ‘family’ that requested he join them and get to know Gotham and his birth father, was not on his bingo list.
Danny does his best to let them down gently- and they seem to be accepting that he’s acclimated to this weird little town and will leave him be- when Danny suddenly has to transform into Phantom in front of them to handle a rocket sent by Skulker.
They are less willing to accept his appeal to be left alone after that… Damian is trying to “bond” with him and all the others are trying to “help” in their own way.
Sam and Tucker howl with laughter at Danny’s suddenly very large family- all while secretly working with the Wayne’s to get Danny the fuck away from the Fentons before the scientists do something they can’t undo.

Your hands were on Sukuna’s abs — his hard, solid muscle underneath your soft fingertips. His entire body was covered with bulging muscle, as the King of Curses had an excellent physique that the great majority of human men could never achieve, even if they spent hours in the gym lifting weights and drinking protein shakes.
Slowly, you raised yourself up and down on his big cock, your hole stretching around him in a way that made him look at you with eyes filled with worry and concern — a look he never, ever gave to anyone else.
After all, he was huge. Everything about him was huge. And the last thing he wanted was for you to get hurt.
But, much to his surprise, the stretch of his cock only made you moan softly in pleasure once you were able to properly adjust to his size.
“You like riding me, huh, pretty girl?” He smirked a bit. As badly as he wanted to touch you, he resisted the urge. While he might have murdered anyone else without a second thought, he treated you like a fragile piece of glass — or a beautiful flower he didn’t want to crush or ruin by being too harsh.
And not only was he softer with you, but he’d take the life of anyone who wasn’t.
“You’re huge,” you mumbled, your words mixing in with the soft moans that also fell from your lips.
“I know, babygirl. You’re taking me so well, though. You’re making me feel so damn good, you know that?”
With a groan, Sukuna tossed his head back, stretching his arms out along the couch.
You couldn’t respond — riding a cock like his typically tended to drive away every single coherent thought your pretty little head could form.
For a while, you simply rode him, your moans growing louder as your pace and rhythm started to fall apart, becoming unsteady.
Suddenly, you stopped moving, and you leaned forward, wrapping your arms around his neck as you tried to catch your breath.
His heart melted a bit when you touched him so affectionately.
“You okay?” He questioned, speaking softly since you were so close.
Gently, he placed a hand against your back.
“Yeah, I’m sorry,” you said, resting against his shoulder. “I needed to take a break. I didn’t ruin your orgasm, did I?”
“No. You know how long I can last.”
“Oh. I was worried I did,” you pulled away from him, which sank you further along his cock as you looked him in the face. “I ruined my own, but my knees were hurting too much.”
A little frown appeared across your face, but you quickly replaced it with a fake smile.
“Don’t worry, I can still make you finish, just let me rest a little.”
You couldn’t fool a curse like Sukuna. He knew you too well. You were the kind-hearted, adorable human being who didn’t want to hurt his feelings.
After all, you were only hurting because your muscles were getting worn out from trying to bounce up and down on his enormous cock, and you didn’t want to make him feel bad about being so huge.
“Maybe I could . . .” Sukuna paused for a minute. He was thinking. “Maybe I could hold you up, and fuck you that way.”
He didn’t want to risk hurting you, truth be told, but the thought of his sweet girl ruining her own orgasm from exhaustion didn’t make him happy.
He always wanted you to cum, and to cum first. And multiple times.
When you nodded eagerly, Sukuna slowly gripped your ass with his lower arms.
As gently as he could, he started to move you up and down along his cock.
“Sukuna, you’re not going to break me, I promise.” You smiled at him softly. “You can move me faster. I want you to be in control, okay?”
Sukuna, the curse responsible for the death of thousands of men, women, and children, looked at you worriedly.
“You sure?”
“Yes,” You said.
And, with that, Sukuna started to increase his speed.
Any uncertainty that this was the wrong decision melted away when you tossed your head back in pleasure.
“Oh my god, Sukuna,” you moaned.
Slowly, Sukuna started to let himself succumb to the pleasure that your tight pussy had brought. Breathing heavily, he started to buck his hips a bit, fucking you like a doll.
“That’s it,” Sukuna said. “Keep moaning my name, baby. Just like that.”
“Sukuna,” a pathetic whine fell from between your lips.
Suddenly, the mouth on his stomach opened, the tongue darting out and running along your clit rapidly.
The sound of your beautiful moans could have made Sukuna cum all on their own.
But, what truly made him come close to the edge was when your juices started to soak his big dick.
“Are you cumming, baby?” He grunted as he spoke. “That’s right. Cum all over my cock — I wanna feel it. I wanna taste it.”
That tongue of his continued to rapidly lick at your button.
“Sukuna! Shit-” You gripped his large arms — the arms that dragged you over his dick until you were practically delirious.
As you came, a wave of pleasure washing over every nerve within your body, your legs started to shake as you started to squirm around, but Sukuna held you still, because his cum only belonged in one place: inside of you.
God, your pussy milked his cock until he couldn’t hold back his moans anymore. His rhythm started to become sloppy. Sweat coated his skin. He suddenly no longer minded the existence of humans.
“I’m gonna cum inside of you,” he warned.
The swirling pleasure in the pit of his stomach had snapped, and he shot his warm cum deeply inside of you.
Everything about Sukuna was massive, including his load. His cum stuffed your pussy until it had no choice but to dribble back out and slide down his cock, settling in a circle around the base of his dick.
When Sukuna pulled out of you, the tongue belonging to the mouth on his stomach instantly started to lap at your messy cunt, cleaning and tasting the sweet mixture of your cum.
And, as that tongue made out with your pussy, Sukuna grabbed the back of your head with his large hand, holding you still as he shoved the tongue belonging to the mouth on his face into your mouth. He groaned at the taste of your sweet mouth. Feeling your little tongue swirl around his as if it could compare to his bigger one was rather humorous, and when he pulled away, he laughed a bit.
“You’re somethin’ else,” Sukuna said. “Come on, let me clean you up.”
“Okay.”
And, with that, Sukuna raised you off of his dick, taking you to the bathroom where he ran a hot bath — not a shower, as you’d both just end up fucking again.
Afterward, your lover put his four arms to use, gliding his large hands across every aching muscle in your body. As he massaged you, he couldn’t help but think about two things: how much he loved you, and how much he enjoyed being in control.

Cain
tw: violence, blood, bodily injuries, parental neglect, a really crappy life, slowburn yandere but will eventually have yandere themes. MINORS DO NOT INTERACT
This is part 1.
All his life, he was unwanted.
Unwanted by his parents, they didn't care enough to put his vulnerable self somewhere safe, or warm, at least. Those who cared a bit more found him in a dumpster one Christmas day, fingers and toes blue from the harsh frost of winter.
He was a "Baby John Doe" to his foster parents, secondary in priority to his other foster siblings. They were older, rowdier, and needier than him. He learned that his cries will never be louder than the shouts and yells of his temporary siblings, so why bother? Why should he make a fuss when he's starving or lying in his own filth long enough to develop nasty rashes? They're not going to notice, or even want to deal with him.
No one claimed him as their flesh. He was tossed around from family to family; some were decent to him, but the majority weren't. How could they be? He was dealt an extremely tough hand, which hardened him. This caused him to turn bitter at how he is legally named John Doe because no one wanted to adopt him or even wanted to give him a proper name.
He was cynical, he was rude, he was callous. He refused to respond to the name carelessly given to him; a young boy like him would rather take on the moniker of Cain. Fittingly so, as he finds himself seething in jealousy whenever his peers or foster siblings get much more love than he does. And like Cain in the bible, he would act out accordingly. Consequently, he finds himself in and out of Juvenile detention centers.
"Cain" John Doe spends the majority of his time, free or not, stealing. Most of the time, resulting in fights that he knows he couldn't walk away from without at least a black eye. Nothing and Nobody could get through the walls he built around himself; he pushed anyone who had tried to help him in earnest, hurting them the most for showing the audacity. Teachers who genuinely wished to see him out of that rut had their wallets snatched and faces punched. Classmates who pity him suffered a similar fate, except Cain would do much worse, as he resents them for having the privilege of a loving family.
He despised it there; he hated the rules, he hated the people who were soft because they grew up in softness all around. Cain would kick, hit, and scream, but nothing could stop the tears rolling down his cheeks.
So when he found the opportunity to, he ran away for good. He wasn't even remotely close to completing high school. Damn it all, he thinks. Cain blends himself into the city crowds and, predictably, falls into bad company. What's a young boy to do with no morally sound, authoritative figure to respect? Warmth means nothing to him, knowing that it will only end in frost. Neither does tough, fatherly love; Cain's loyalty lies in whoever can provide him the most money, the most luxury, the most contacts. And he isn't afraid to betray them when the well runs dry.
Surprisingly, he wasn't addicted to any of the drugs being passed around so brazenly. Yes, he may have gotten a fun kick out of it a dozen times, but he gets bored with them. It also clouds his judgement and hinders his ability to steal, beat or destroy. He would rather sell them to get extra cash or use it as a bargaining chip to receive favours.
He dyed his hair fiery red with the items he stole from the pharmacy, and pierced his ears and lips. Cain is content with how he looks; he isn't fussy about his appearance. Hence, you could clearly see his brunette roots. Cain wishes he knew if his parents had the same hair color and hair type as him, or if it was expressed amongst his biological, extended family. It seems like he would never know, and maybe he would like to keep it that way. Fuck them, he thinks. All Cain now wishes is for them to suffer a fate worse than his. Downfall after downfall, that puts a wry smile on his face.
Living as a street urchin does take a toll on his health, mentally and physically. When was the last time he had a good sleep in a soft bed? Last night, when he broke into some poor sap's home. He grumbled as he had to leave early, the owner came back from their vacation, and raised hell. When was the last time he was treated with dignity? He couldn't remember; it was hard for him to even buy food from a convenience store or a fast food joint due to his infamy. When was the last time his miscellaneous wounds were properly cleaned and treated? Never. Cain is just lucky to never have died from an infection, not lucky enough to avoid getting ill.
However, he eventually had a change of heart. Maybe the stench of death has gotten through him, maybe he grew tired of living life in constant tension and never truly owning anything for himself. Perhaps he's simply doing what he's been doing his entire messy life: rebelling. Rebelling against the system, the norm, and now, his long-standing personal beliefs. Whatever the reason was, Cain was willing to give honest living a try, to live like the "good" majority where they can sleep in their own clean beds without the fear of getting shanked.
With no background, formal education, or manners, it is no surprise that most turned him away. No one, except this agency with questionable ways of operating, but soon-to-be former street demons like him, knew that this was the first step of getting clean in the eyes of the law and the people.
His first honest job was a humble cleaner. Cain would be sent to various places to scrub the floors free from grime. It's something mundane, not so extreme as making crime scenes spotless, but it's more along the lines of cleaning public bathrooms, sweeping empty halls of a large building that he couldn't care to remember the function of. It's boring, but it's clean.
Just like many things in his life, he held contempt for this job. But he simply grits his teeth and picks up his rusted bucket filled with dirtied mop water. He wanted a better life, so he had to work for it, no matter how much he wanted to strangle someone over it. And for a time, he earned quite a bit of honest cash, all paid in his sweat, spite, and body aches. Food is a little easier to come by, but by god was it hard to stay afloat.
The man struggled, he really did. He had banged his head against the wall of his rickety hostel room numerous times to stop himself from falling back into his old patterns. Cain counted his blessings each day, and that is what kept his rage and hurt at bay. But hell, was it hard.
Cain was smart enough to save it up for his future; he has many, many things to pay for. Many, many milestones he missed, and legal documents too. However, he was not intuitive enough to look into banks. And that oversight came back to bite him in the ass.
Being worn down by life, feeling sticky with dirt, and stomach grumbling with a desire for a nice bowl of hot soup, Cain came back one day to his hostel to his door slightly ajar. He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, but soon his expression contorted into that of horror. Cain dashed into his room to see that what little of his belongings had been rummaged through. Having little regard for everything else, he rushed to check the only thing he gave a damn about: the ratty envelope that contained his life savings.
Cain felt chills down his spine as he stared in disbelief that it was gone. Well, why would he not believe it? He's in a place full of people who are like him; just a single thought will make them fall back into their old ways. Looks like someone went back to their own ways before him, and he was next.
Everything after that was a blur. He knew that he had spent the night going absolutely ballistic. Cain knew he had many victims, but everything was unclear to him; it was as if he was under the influence, and that affected his memory greatly. But he was completely sober, only drunk off his fury. But once he calmed down enough to reason with himself, he knew he could not stay there anymore. There will be men from both sides of the law looking for Cain, and he's not sticking around to find out what they have in store for him.
And so he fled. He went far, far away with the cash that he didn't even know where it came from, or whose corpse it was looted from. Bus after bus, after bus. Cain doesn't know where he's going, but he just keeps running. No one dared to stop him; they knew that he would burn them if they got too close. They just avoided his stern gaze and hoped that he would pass, merely leaving a trail of relatively harmless smoke.
But like all fires, it will eventually burn out.
There was no more fuel, not cash, but fuel. Cain was tired, and that is a gross understatement. There are only embers left of his soul, and its glow is dimming steadily. The heat is dissipating, only leaving the desolate cold and debilitating exhaustion. He never believed in a god, but now he does. And he thinks that god is a cruel, cruel bastard. And he gives up trying to get back at this unholy entity; he's tired.
The last stop he got off, Cain stepped down from the bus. It was pouring, and everyone had their own lives to tend to, so the bus driver sped off. Cain stared blankly into nothingness, droplets of rain dripped down his red hair, but he paid no mind to how it stung his eyes.
He exhaled a long, heavy breath and then collapsed. Did his head or shoulder hit the ground first? Cain doesn't know. Nor did he have the capacity to give a damn anymore. If anything, he hopes that a lightning bolt strikes him down and fries him. At least he would be a tasty snack for some strays.
He felt his consciousness coming back, and there were muffled verbal exchanges that seemed to be close to him. Cain shuffled groggily, a soft grunt escaping his dry lips as he struggled to push himself off the ground. His eyes slowly peeled open, but it was difficult with droplets invading them each time he attempted to. Cain could make out two figures in the rain, bickering about something.
As his hearing returns to its fullest, it seems like the argument was about... morality? Cain blinked hard multiple times before he could perceive what was happening in front of him.
You and another person who's much larger than you are. Having a disagreement about... stripping an unconscious man of his belongings.
Cain's eyes fully shot open. The two strangers to him didn't notice that he was fully awake now. It seems like you're trying your damndest to get the other person to return his cash, and you weren't taken seriously. Of course, who would? You were trembling when standing up to them, you were stuttering a storm, but you stood tall and didn't show signs of backing down, going so far as to abandon your open umbrella on the ground nearby. Even if you looked like you're about to piss your pants, you still tried to get the stranger to return his things. That invoked an odd feeling in his chest; it's mild, but it's there.
Never mind that, he has something to do.
Slowly, he rose to his full height and moved behind the one that's going to get hurt. You were the first to notice and shut your mouth, but the other party kept going on, berating you.
"Oi." He barked.
This finally got their attention and made them turn around, which wasn't a good idea, as Cain immediately grabbed their head and slammed it against the bus stop pole. You winced upon hearing the deafening "thunk!" that resonated despite the noisy torrent.
The body just slid down, lifelessly. The two of you spared a glance at the once boisterous thief before sharing a look together. You were taken aback at how mean he looks, while Cain just looked at you up and down. As if memorizing you, or assessing how much you are a threat to him. Perhaps it was a mixture of both, or something else. Either way, his look doesn't scream warmth and kindness.
Cain tore his gaze away from you as he rummaged through the thief's body. He took his items back and a bit extra, but you didn't need to know that.
You simply watched in silence, completely drenched. And you realized that you were under the rain when Cain picked up your umbrella... and calmly walked away without giving you another look or showing any hesitation. He used your umbrella as if he were the rightful owner all along. No words could escape your mouth as you saw him disappear in the distance.
You went home with one umbrella short that day.
And also a guilty conscience, you called an ambulance for the thief, but you fled the scene before they arrived. That was such a wild encounter, and you don't think that you could ever forget that. You vowed to stop using that bus stop, as you tend to encounter many sketchy and simply weird people there. However, you couldn't help but wonder about that man. He seemed troubled, and maybe you could help in some way? You definitely cannot fix him, though. But maybe...
So against your better judgment, you took your bus at that bus stop to work every day. Hoping to maybe meet him again. You know that you're not getting that umbrella back, but maybe... if you ask him nicely enough, you would get it back? It's hard to even do that if he doesn't show up in the first place.
It was on one sunny day, too sunny, that you needed a cold drink to cool you down. You waited for the bus to come; it's late, but it was nothing out of the ordinary with how crappy the public transport is in your place.
After a wait, the damned thing finally arrived. It came to a halt in front of you, but instead of a clear path through the doors, hostile shouts and yelling filled the space. You have never seen your bus driver so red in anger before; you thought he would get a stroke if this keeps up, with all the veins popping up on his neck and head. And the source of this rage? The same man who took your umbrella.
He came stumbling out, yelling curses behind him and flipping the bird numerous times. One may think he's drunk, but his flushed face and the sweat dripping down his nose indicated that he was just... overheated. Once he stepped out of the bus, the doors behind him slammed shut, and the bus driver sped away without considering you. Well, you would too; it's probably a safe bet to leave the area where this man is present.
You watch him scream, like he's releasing pressure that's been pent up in him. His body is extremely tensed up, and he is panting like a dog. That bus should really fix its air conditioning system. He then whipped his head to you, his intense glare was enough to make you flinch, and instinctively brought your half-drunk bottle in front of you.
He snatched it and began gulping down its contents. It was gone within seconds, and he carelessly chucked the empty vessel onto the ground. You simply watch with caution and deduce that this isn't a good time to ask for your umbrella back; he doesn't have it with him anyway.
Cain glanced at you one last time as he wiped his mouth with the back of his arm. He then walked away without a word.
You went to work thirsty that day.
And you didn't see him for a while. You finally let go of that umbrella. He probably needs it more than you do anyway.
You thought that was the last time that you'd see him. Why would he be around this area anyways? It's not like he could catch a bus here; you're sure that the bus driver wouldn't let him on anymore.
You thought about him as you waited for the bus to work one day. Munching on some berries you packed as breakfast, until you saw a shadow looming over you. Looking up, of course, who else would it be other than the man who took your umbrella and your drink? It looks like he was walking past and you caught his attention, that's why he stopped and stared, but not at you.
He was looking at your lunchbox. You stared back at him and thought that he looked quite gaunt- it didn't diminish his attractiveness, but it did show that he wasn't eating well lately. He's probably starving right now. And you can tell what person he is from your last two interactions, better to lose some berries over your cranium. So you somewhat shakily offered him some by bringing it closer to him. Not a word was being exchanged, but he took the whole thing without a sign of reluctance. In usual fashion, he walked away with your breakfast.
You went to work hungry that day. But you felt glad knowing that he had something to eat.
You decided to get a bicycle so you could just avoid that bus stop entirely. It takes a while to get the hang of it, but it feels freeing. You're no longer bound to the confines of the bus schedule.
Unfortunately, with the modern curse of smartphones, one day you decide to text and bike. Not seeing where you're going, you accidentally crashed into someone while moving along the pavement. You were thrown forward and crashed on the ground. Luckily, you had your helmet on to protect your head. Unfortunately, you got some scrapes, and even more unfortunate is when you heard a familiar voice yell...
"What the fuck!?" Followed by a groan of pain.
You gasp. Oh shit, it's him. You immediately started profusely apologizing as he regained his composure. He froze for a split second, and it looked like he recognized you before adopting an expression of annoyance, not of fury like how he was with the bus driver, but of annoyance. He had some cuts on his lean arms that were beading out blood.
You scrambled back onto your feet, offering to take him to a hospital, or a clinic, or to patch him up, or--
"Fuck off!" He angrily exclaimed as he stormed off, cradling his fresh wounds.
You took a moment before checking yourself if he took anything with him. Everything seems to be in place, even your phone, surprisingly. But it was cracked badly.
And so, you went home in shame. You didn't mean to hurt him.
The guilt kept you up at night. You wanted to make it up to him, but he doesn't seem the type to accept unsolicited help. You don't think you could do anything meaningful for now, so you just pray that he will be okay.
You even stopped using the bicycle for a while and returned to the bus stop. That was how much your guilt was eating you up. And by reverting to that routine, you were bound to bump into him again.
It was one cloudy day, and you saw him sleeping on the bench at the bus stop. He's homeless...?
Wrong. It never came. It's just one of those days, so you sighed. And that was a pretty loud sigh, as it woke him up. You jolted when you heard him groan. Instantly, you started stammering apologies for waking him up, for bothering him, and for the accident that happened. You said you felt guilty for that and asked if you could do anything to make it up to him. But before you could finish your long, sorry speech, he cuts you off.
You wanted to apologize to him again. But you don't think he would appreciate you waking him up just for that. So you just waited next to him, under the shelter, predicting that it might rain soon. At least your bus is coming in the next minute, right?
"Shut up." He rasped as he rubbed his eyes, squinting at what little light the cloudy skies could offer. You did just that and remained silent, and chose to stay silent unless spoken to.
You were never spoken to anymore, though.
It looks like he trusts you enough that he appeared to go back to sleep. He looked so serene with his eyes closed, you wonder who he is and what the world has done to him to be this spiky towards everyone.
The next bus eventually came, and you hopped onto it.
Unbeknownst to you, Cain had an eye open slightly to watch you get onto the bus safely.
The following weeks were not that notable, except for a few times where Cain came across you at the bus stop, eating breakfast, staring intently, and you would inevitably give it up. As usual, he would accept it with no hesitation and leave the area after getting what he wanted. You still hadn't known his name at this point.
Until one day.
It was raining cats and dogs. You missed your old umbrella, but your newer, flimsier one had to do. You retracted the umbrella when you reached the bus shelter. You sat down and waited as usual.
This time, you heard something extra. A frantic pair of footsteps splashing against the puddles. You poke your head out of the shelter to see a man running towards it, with his arms over his head, seemingly trying to protect himself from the rain. But he was already positively drenched.
Lo and Behold, it was him.
You scooted away to make some space for him. He rushed to take cover and sat down, letting his clothes dampen the wooden bench. You tried waving at him, but he seemed preoccupied with something. He was breathing heavily and... sniffling? His wet hair was covering his eyes, so you couldn't tell if he was crying or if it was from the rain. But his sudden, uncontrolled shout confirmed that he must be having a mental breakdown of sorts, as after that, he began sobbing into his hand.
Cain was coughing as he released shouts and screams that were almost primal in quality. He was digging his nails against the flesh of his arms, which were noticeably bruised and had more cuts than you remembered. You don't know if you should look at him or look away.
Eventually, he quieted down and slumped against the bench. You still couldn't see his eyes. His chest heaves up and down as he breathes.
Both of you stayed there in silence. You don't know what to say either.
Your bus finally arrived, and it opened its doors for you. However, before you even stood up, you saw that Cain was outwardly staring at you. And you had to make a choice. You glanced between the bus and him.
Ultimately, you shook your head at the bus driver. He then shuts the door before driving off.
You pursed your lips and brought your attention back to him. Cain looked away, having his hair conceal the top half of his face again.
Then it was silence.
"Cain."
What?
"Cain. That is my name." He coughed a bit.
You stuttered your own name and said something along the lines of "nice to meet you". He didn't respond to that.
He returned to the comfort of silence, you returned to the discomfort of it. Maybe you should have taken that damn bus.
You twiddled your thumbs, periodically taking note of his actions. He doesn't seem to be doing a whole lot, just sitting and resting.
"You said you would make it up to me." You turned your head to him. He still refused to meet your eyes. You didn't confirm or deny, instead, you stayed quiet and let him talk.
"Then..." You could see his Adam's apple bob up and down as he swallowed thickly.
"I need somewhere to stay." He brought his intense gaze back onto you, making you wish that he kept his eyes hidden. You just realized that his face was bruised, and the skin on his lip was broken, and his teeth were stained red. You think he must have gotten into a fight, or someone took advantage of him while he was asleep.
Your jaw dropped, and you failed to get the words out of your mouth. You don't think it's a good idea for him to stay with you, but you can't afford to pay for him to stay somewhere either. Your mouth opened and closed to try and say something, but nothing came out.
"Please..." He breathed, it was laden with desperation. You stared into his bloodshot eyes and the piercings that glistened under the faint streetlight.
How could you possibly say no?

NSFW ALPHABET, PEDRI GONZALEZ.﹙001﹚
➤ Summary: A to Z of what he would be like in bed.
➤ Warning: SMUT +18, Mention of sex, mention of reader.
➤ Author's note: Translated into English, meaning there may be spelling errors.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A = Aftercare (how they look after sex)
Pedri is the type of person who cleans you with great affection, kisses your forehead, pulls you to his chest and rubs your back until you fall asleep. He likes to hear from you afterwards, to know if it was good, if you want something different. He needs that moment.
B = Body part (his and his partner's favorite part of the body)
He loves the curve of your waist, where his hands fit naturally as he pulls you towards him. You? He loves it when you kiss his neck — it gives him goosebumps.
You love his hands. Strong, sure, and when they're where you want them... well, you know.
C = Cum (basically anything to do with sperm)
He loves to cum inside you, but only when he can — with a condom or on the right days. The idea of "filling you up" drives him completely crazy. He also loves to see you licking him afterwards.
D = Dirty secret (pretty self-explanatory, their dirty secret)
Sometimes he masturbates thinking about things you haven't done yet. Like picking you up at the gym or in the locker room at Camp Nou. He's thought about recording you — but hasn't had the courage to ask yet.
E = Experience (How experienced are they? Do they know what they are doing?)
He's not a veteran, but he knows what he's doing. He learns quickly, listens to his body. He likes to test what works. You? You also know what you want, and together you've become masters in tune.
F = Favorite position
He loves to take you sideways, with one leg over his. He can look at you, kiss you, and still go deep. You love it when he turns you over and whispers things in your ear while he fucks you.
G = Goofy (Is he more serious at the moment? Is he funny? etc.)
Every now and then he'll crack a joke in the middle of it — especially if you're being really serious. But overall, it's intense. When you laugh together during sex, it just makes everything more intimate.
H = Hair (How well groomed are they?)
Always trimmed, well cared for. He likes you to keep it the way you want, but he loves it when you appear all smooth — he notices, even without commenting. And he kisses every part.
I = Intimacy (how are they at the moment? the romantic aspect)
Having sex with him is never just physical. He looks into your eyes, compliments you, calls you "my life". There are days when you cum while hugging each other, almost crying from feeling so much.
J = Jack off (masturbation)
He does, of course. But it's slowed down since you started. He'd much rather have you. But he loves it when you masturbate in front of him - he can't even watch for five minutes.
K = Kink
He has a soft spot for light submission — you giving the orders, he obeys. But he also loves it when you beg. Hands tied, blindfolds, and dirty words... he's into it all.
L = Location (favorite places to do it)
He loves places where they shouldn't be: cars, dressing rooms, building stairs. But nothing beats the couch in his house — a little uncomfortable, but that's where it all started.
M = Motivation (what excites them, what keeps them going)
Seeing you in lingerie? That's it. You wearing his shirt? Damnation. But what turns him on the most is hearing you moan softly. It's instant combustion.
N = No (something they wouldn't do, discouraging)
Nothing that involves real pain or major humiliation. He doesn't like to see you uncomfortable. Anything that takes away the connection — it's out.
O = Oral (preference in giving or receiving, skill, etc.)
He loves to suck you. Like, really waste your time. He stays there until he makes you tremble. Receive? He loves it too, but he gets even crazier when you look up with your mouth full.
P = Pace (Are they fast and rough? Or, Slow and sensual? etc.).
Alternate well - start slow and provocative, then go deep and merciless. But always pay attention to whether you're enjoying it.
Q = Quickie (your opinions on quickies, how often, etc.)
Amman. In the bathroom before going out, in a dark corner at a party, or even during a break in training. It's pure adrenaline. But then you want a full round.
R = Risk (Are they willing to experiment? Are they risk takers? etc.)
He loves a little risk. An unlocked door, almost getting caught. Having you in public, even if it's just with his fingers, is his biggest addiction.
S = Stamina (How many rounds can they last? How long do they last?)
Holds up well. Usually two rounds with stamina — and still gets excited for a third if you provoke him. Likes marathons on the weekends.
T = Toys (Do they have toys? Do they use them? In a partner)
He has a few—a vibrator he holds while he fucks you, and soft handcuffs. He likes to watch you squirm in them. And he's always open for more.
U = Unfair (how much they like to tease)
He's the king of provocation. He makes you beg, stops you right on the edge of orgasm, leaves you wet all day long just with messages. He likes to see you lose control.
V = Volume (how loud they are, what sounds they make, etc.)
He's not loud, but he lets out deep moans and muffled groans in your ear. You? He loves it when you moan loudly—he shows off when he makes you scream.
W = Wild card (a random headcanon for the character)
You have a playlist just for the two of you — and he’s already “accidentally” put it on in the car with his friends. He blushes, but inside he’s all proud.
X = X-ray (let's see what's going on under those clothes)
Athletic, defined body. Strong thighs, firm abdomen. Thick, proportional cock, visible veins — and you already know what he can do with that.
Y = Yearning (How high is their sex drive?)
Very high. He wants you all the time. He sends you a message in the middle of training, comes home and grabs you by the waist. He misses you even when you sleep together.
Z = Zzz (how quickly they fall asleep afterwards)
After all, he quickly falls asleep — but only if you're in his arms. If you get up, he wakes up. It's as if your body is his favorite pillow.

it is so important to me that within the very last scene Monty appears, he is spoken to with kindness. and by Charles, of all people.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
because the only person that Monty seems to have regularly known is Esther, and she treats him with anything but kindness. it's very safe to assume that Monty has presumably spent the vast majority of his life being berated, attacked and neglected by her. there has never been a moment that showed Monty receiving any sort of gentleness or tenderness from her. when Esther does compliment him, it's only to do with how good-looking she made him as a human. and that's her own handiwork. Monty himself is never praised, never acknowledged, never seen for any of his own efforts to assist her. yet, she was quick to both see and act the second he messed up, and not even through fault of his own.
it's so incredibly touching that Monty is finally praised for his own actions when we part ways with him. and by the very person he dislikes so much. Monty bitterly resents Charles. he's not shy about it. Charles is not unaware of it. he isn't all that fond of Monty himself. and yet, Charles is the one to end things on a positive note. it should be ironic, but it isn't at all. it makes complete sense.
of course it's Charles that Monty shares this final moment of his with. Charles is not an idiot, so i'm certain he could somewhat tell that Monty is a victim of abuse. the victim of an abusive parent-like figure, no less. just like him. Charles is rightly furious at what Monty has done, but how could he truly hate him? when he knows full well what it's like to be so scared of the person who's meant to look after you? when he knows full well that horrible feeling of being trapped without any escape in sight? Charles has also experienced being treat in a disgusting, violent manner for no reason at all. he may not have been serving an impossible-to-please witch like Monty is, but no matter how athletic, hard-working or friendly he was, Charles could never escape his father's terrifying anger, all efforts of his rendered futile.
it's interesting that Charles doesn't seem all that shocked in this moment, to see Monty act against Esther. he's glad, but i don't reckon his expression is one of surprise? it's almost as if Charles already had some sort of faith in Monty, even though the crow has given him absolutely no reason to trust him, quite the opposite. but maybe that's not so strange. Monty is like Charles. Charles is the person who outright said that he's desperate for people like him to be right, to be good. we saw how devastated he was when Brad and Hunter were not.
so, these words from Charles must have mattered to Monty greatly. people who are abused, especially by those who are meant to look after them, such as their parents, can often be led to believe that their abuser's actions are somehow "justified," even if it's not a thought they're fully conscious of. Monty isn't entirely naïve, at least outwardly. he clearly isn't under the impression that Esther actually cares for him, considering how bitterly he speaks to her. but deep down, there must be a reason he still stays with Esther, because he isn't restrained physically. Monty's cage is unlocked, he's "free" to fly around as he pleases, even shown to go outside at one point. he doesn't fly away from her, though. and that may be because he unconsciously feels that he owes Esther his complete loyalty.
but this moment could have changed that. if Charles, who Monty doesn't like and isn't liked by in return, who Monty was impolite and passive-aggressive to can speak to him kindly - what right does Esther, who Monty tries to be helpful to, have to treat him with such cruelty? what right does she have to scream at him, to grab him, to mutilate him? when he's done nothing but be her loyal familiar, having only committed the sin of feeling too much for her liking, human feelings that she forced upon him?
this scene is towards the end of the show for us. but for Monty, maybe it's a turning point in his life.

reluctant!remus x honey!reader tw: corny ass sirius jokes because i can't help myself :)
Sirius’s idea of fun is getting absolutely trashed at his favorite bar on the other side of town and then making Remus drive him home. This happens frequently when James is busy. Tonight is nothing different. Only tonight, when they exit the bar, do they discover the car has a flat. Remus is exasperated to say the least. He heads back inside, much to his friend's delight, in search of a phone. He is pointed to a payphone towards the back next to the restrooms. Suddenly, he can’t remember anyone’s number but yours. Dialing, surprised to soon find you on the other line.
“Do you know how potentially dangerous it is to answer random numbers?”
“Did you call a random number just to tell them that?”
“Honey, it’s Remus”
“Oh Remus! I was just thinking about you! How is your night going?”
He explains the situation much easier than he could ever explain your relationship. You don’t sound nearly as excited to save him as he thought you would be. Usually, when you can get him on the line, your excitement practically drips through the receiver. He doubts you even register that he has your number memorized. But you’re doing him a favor, that’s what he should be focused on.
He finds a slightly less trashed Sirius back on his favorite stool, trying to convince the tender to slip some tequila into his glass of water. Sirius would be much more successful in his endeavors had it not been for the amalgamation of several beers and shots he had been given from this same bartender who had made the executive decision to cut him off.
“You’re ruining my life,” Sirius moans. The tender shrugs.
Remus is doing his best to console him when you walk in. You’re in what appear to be sleeping clothes, and your hair is pulled back away from your very clean-looking face. A rush of guilt runs through him like ice. You were getting ready for bed, and he interrupted. The feeling is followed by something else entirely. You look adorable.
Your eyes catch his in the midst of his admiration and instead of your blinding smile he is granted a look of severe distress. It only deepens the closer you get to him.
“Are you alright? Are you hurt?”
He smiles despite his better judgment, and it looks like you ease up for a second.
“It’s just a flat, honey. Nothing too major.”
You visibly exhale, trying to release some of the tension pent up in your shoulders.
“You don’t have a spare?”
He does; he doesn’t know what to do with it. Sirius is too drunk to be useful and James isn’t here.
“Hello gorgeous,” Sirius croons. “I’m Sirius.”
“Happy to hear that; I take compliments very seriously,” you say, glancing curiously at him. “And here I thought I was your only friend, Remus.”
“Maybe I just want you all to myself,” Remus mutters before he can think twice, reaching out to steady Sirius on the stool. He pauses, realizing what he shouldn’t have said, and the regret is immediate. Sirius gapes while you preen with delight.
“Well then,” you look almost bashful, but Remus knows you better than that. You are incorrigible at best, and will tease him about this instance for the rest of eternity. “If you have a spare, I can change your tire.” Your voice is softer when you reply, the reverberation of his statement thrumming in your ears, subduing your generally loud demeanor.
“Are you serious?”
“No I am!”
You laugh as you nod.
He and Sirius then follow you out to your car, where you produce a little pink tool kit from your trunk.
Remus leads you to his car, where you instantly get to work.
“The trick,” you tell Remus, “is to loosen the bolts while the tire is on the ground. The friction of the tire and the road makes it easier.”
You jack the car up, unscrewing the bolts the rest of the way, before Remus hands you the spare.
“Then you tighten the bolts a little,” you say, “Lower the car.” He watches you intently as you demonstrate. “And use the friction to tighten the screws real tight!”
You’re finished sooner than he thought you’d be and much dirtier.
“I’m sorry for ruining your outfit, Hon” he says.
You laugh lightly. “I had to do laundry anyway.” Your laundry day was yesterday but Remus doesn’t need to know that.
Remus walks you to your car after getting Sirius in the passenger seat.
“I’m sorry for all the trouble,” he says, hands stuffed into his pockets.
“What are friends for?” you say; your smile is soft, and your eyes sparkle when they catch his. Friends. Fuck.
He swoops down and pecks you on the cheek like a friend would. And you giggle beside yourself.
“I’ll call you later to check in; make sure you're not dead,” he says.
And he does.

Quote and backstory for Cecil, If you can't, you can choose just one. I love him and you other ocs very much 💖💕💗
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Backstory: Tell me anything about your twst OC's backstory. Their childhood, their parents, their siblings etc. Does their backstory affect how they are as a character now and how they interact with the cast?
Cecil comes from a family of mages/witches, so that’s cool. His dad is a Royal Sword Academy alumni, so that’s something. He has an older twin sister, her name is Claudia.
Tumblr media
She’s meticulous and always holds her head high when it comes to her magical ability and her appearance (💖). Outside of NRC, especially in their home village, they’re often viewed as a pair and compared to one another. (…Mainly Cecil getting compared to her.)
Tumblr media
They have a magical rivalry since both of their magic manifested as children around the same time. Though, that’s probably when things started to go south in terms of their once more friendly relationship.
Tumblr media
Further yapping under cut. 🔮
Claudia technically got her magic first, but Cecil has much larger reserves and a really natural instinct for it.
Unfortunately for Cecil, this caused a lot of problems early on with a perceived lack of control and a pattern of disasters if he got overwhelmed. Claudia was usually at the receiving end of those disasters, so much like the adults in their village, she doesn’t trust him with magic at all.
Repeated fumbling just made Cecil seem like a hazard who can only do wrong, while his sister was doing everything correctly and seemed more reliable. Her doing well just made his mistakes look worse by comparison. Even if they were really small.
So it became a case of Cecil’s self-confidence taking a major blow, meanwhile Claudia kind of got propped up as somebody he should be striving to emulate.
Over time, it was less that he didn’t have control, but lack of faith from anyone else during his formative years didn’t really help. And since magic is strongly imagination based, that can manifest as shoddy spell-casting unintentionally, even if he knows what he’s doing now.
Claudia is most certainly envious of Cecil’s lifelong affinity with magic, so she compensated by becoming an expert on all things surrounding it like, poisons, potions, curses, practical spell casting, conjuring. etc. and all of the correct most efficient ways to do so.
Though, ultimately it doesn’t matter how meticulous she is because her reserves are just too low for any arcane academy to care. She is not impressive enough to be accepted into any such school, but the bumbling Cecil was.
Her Signature Spell is just changing a persons hair/hair color. (Not that she’d let anyone know… not even her brother.)
There’s less celebration that Cecil got into the prestigious Night Raven College, so much as how unfair it that the seemingly perfect Claudia can’t get into any arcane academy at all. Dad doesn’t really care for NRC anyway so that doesn’t help.
They’re kind of both jealous of each other in some capacity, but neither have communicated this so they’re currently just strained. They can have good days, but otherwise they don’t really talk unless Cecil comes home. …And when he does, expect yapping about all of Claudia’s accomplishments while he was away.
Fun.
SO! How does all this manifest in how Cecil interacts with the cast?
It most emerges as deadpan snark and himself getting jealous about his peers’ magical prowess or their support systems. He just feels this insatiable need to prove how competent he is. …To mixed results.
Maybe he needs to become some hero who saves people or something? Or some kind of authority that gets respect no matter what?? He doesn’t really know.
So here’s Cecil having an all that baggage and just outside of his orbit is freaking Diasomnia fam.
It can get somebody a little… resentful.
He probably wouldn’t have gone to NRC at all if not for his need to prove himself. That, and maybe one teensy tiny push from a precocious neighbor.

cherry bomb | part 2 | jungkook (m)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: jungkook x fem reader
summary: after your town goes into lockdown because of the cherry bomb massacre, you find out that the murderer's interest is on you. eventually, you’re left with no choice but to face him.
genre: horror/slasher, angst, smut, college!au
word count: 13.7k
warnings: major character deaths, gaslighting, hallucinations, anxiety/paranoia, grief, trauma, violence (including knife and gun use), torture, blood, gore, descriptions of dead bodies, a funeral scene, fuckboy!JK, oral (fem receiving), fingering, finger-sucking, handjob, cumplay(?), hair-pulling
a/n: this part is quite rougher than the first, so heed the warnings. same notes as the last part—not meant to be entirely realistic since this *is* a slasher. block/filter as needed. i didn’t mention this in part 1 but this fic is not set in present day; more like somewhere in the 2000s? i don’t think this fic would work as well with all this advanced technology/the prevalence of social media now
...also, i had this story all written out and then decided to completely change the plot at the last minute because i figured out a way to write the original plot i had wanted to do from the beginning. 💀 yeah…just leave your thoughts below
taglist is at the very bottom of the fic—for some reason i wasn't able to tag everyone who requested, so please reblog this fic so folks can see it
sources for the fic dividers: one | two

Tumblr media
you’re standing in front of some stranger’s house in the early hours of the morning, your body heavy from exhaustion as your adrenaline has run out. this is not at all how you expected your night to end when you left your dorm hours ago. it must’ve taken at least 40 minutes to get to this house, and you’re less familiar with this part of town, which you try not to feel uneasy about. you suppose the farther away from the scene of the carnage, the better.
jungkook bangs on the door, calling out the name yoongi-hyung until the porch light comes on. though it’s illogical, you’re tense with apprehension that the murderer could somehow appear at any moment, and you hope whoever yoongi is lets the both of you in soon. so much for no longer looking over your shoulder.
a man with hair just as long as jungkook’s answers the door, looking disheveled and annoyed. “why the fuck are you banging down my door at nearly 2 am—"
yoongi stops speaking as he eyes the both of you up and down, his gaze going from the bite mark bruises you left on jungkook’s neck to the dried blood on your face to the bullet holes in jungkook’s car. his expression is between surprise and curiosity. “what the fuck is going on here?”
“can we talk inside?” jungkook says, though he doesn’t wait for an invitation before pushing his way past the other man and stepping inside.
“uh…hi. sorry.” you step inside too, glad to not be out in the open anymore.
yoongi takes another look outside the door at the state of jungkook’s car before closing and locking it. “mind explaining this shit? i thought you were going to that party you told me about?
“i did,” jungkook says, his voice full of frustration. “the fucking killer showed up at the party.”
“the fuck are you talking about?”
“you know what i’m talking about. that werewolf-masked freak? he came and just started stabbing people to death. we watched him shoot a fraternity member in front of us, dude. that’s why my car looks the way it does.”
“the campus is probably dangerous,” you add. “that’s why we came here. we just need somewhere safe to stay for the night.”
yoongi goes to the window and draws back the curtain. he peeks out the small holes in the side of the blinds rather than pushing the blinds down to look outside. “and you’re certain he didn’t follow you here? i thought he only killed virgins anyway. why the hell was he shooting at you?” then yoongi turns away from the window and looks at you. “oh. is this why?”
feeling put on the spot, you blurt out: “look, i don’t think that matters much anymore. he seemed to be killing anybody who was in his way.”
“and he was on foot the whole time, so there’s no way he could’ve followed us,” jungkook adds.
yoongi shakes his head and walks away from the window. “whole town is fucked, then. come on.”
you’re relieved to be able to scrub the blood off your face and change into fresh clothes. you initially thought it was peculiar that yoongi had spare clothes ready for you to wear until he alluded to keeping them on hand for any of jungkook’s hookups that he brings over.
“sure—of course.” you’d just nodded and tried not to look embarrassed as you accepted the clothes.
even after showering you don’t feel entirely clean, though. you think it might be impossible to return to feeling anything like your former self after tonight.
the couch has a pull-out bed, so it’s not as uncomfortable as it would be just sleeping on a regular sofa, which you are grateful for. you’re still arranging the pillow and blankets when jungkook walks into the room holding his own bedding.
“i think i should sleep here,” he says.
“there’s no room on the couch for the both of us,” you protest, thinking he means to take your spot.
“i mean on the floor. earlier, you didn’t seem like you wanted to be left alone in here.”
“oh.” you try to take the edge out of your voice; it’s hard to be polite when you’re still so overwhelmed with stress. “that’ll be uncomfortable though.”
jungkook just waves his hand and dumps his pillow and blanket on the floor before going to push the coffee table out of the way. “doesn’t really matter, i think we’ve been through worse tonight than sleeping on a hard floor…”
“thanks,” you say quietly, watching him spread his blanket out on the ground. you want to say something else, but you can’t think of anything.
“it’s fine, don’t worry about it.”
after a few more moments of staring at jungkook as he arranges his sleeping area, you finally ask, “i was wondering how’d you meet yoongi? he doesn’t seem like he’s a college student. i’ve never seen him around our campus, at least.”
“he isn’t. he works as a music producer, so he’s out of town a lot, but this is his homebase. as for how we met—it’s a long story. he and my brother actually used to know each other, so…” you think he’ll explain further, but he just shakes his head. “but he’s a good friend.”
“i see. a music producer…nice. how cool for a little town like this.”
after everything is to his liking, jungkook gets under the blanket. “tonight was a lot, so try to get some sleep.”
you nod and turn the lamp off, though you’re doubting you’ll get any peace tonight. “yeah…you too.”
--
SATURDAY MORNING, NOV 4
you wake up around 11 a.m. on a strange couch wearing strange clothes in a strange room. with your brain’s half-conscious state, your terror reawakens; you think maybe you’ve been kidnapped by the murderer and the car ride with jungkook last night was a dream—until yoongi pops into your mind.
you try to regulate your breathing and settle back beneath the blanket, though you know you won’t be going back to sleep.
you haven’t gotten more than an hour of sleep in total, broken up into 20-minute intervals across the hours. every time you’ve tried to close your eyes and drift off, you see the frat member’s skull bursting apart again, shocking your entire nervous system. you can think of nothing but the piles of bodies and the deaths you witnessed. perhaps it’s better that you don’t sleep; you figure your dreams wouldn’t be any more tolerable than your thoughts.
as you shift around on the couch, your whole body screams with soreness. your arms, your ribs, your sides, your legs, and—to a lesser extent—even between your thighs where jungkook was last night.
you glance over and see that he’s still sprawled on the floor, blanket halfway kicked off. he’s actually awake, his face turned away from you as he blinks slowly and stares at nothing, but he doesn’t say anything and so neither do you. with you spending most of your night awake, you saw that he was able to get more rest than you did. lucky him.
it hurts to move, but you reach for your phone and check for any signs of lorelai. none. there is one text from camille, sent 40 minutes ago.
➤ camille: I talked to Lorelai’s sister. She went to go see about a missing persons report. The police took her information but didn’t seem very concerned about it and said she might have just stayed the night with other friends after the party. Apparently a lot of others had the same idea as you. Campus is a ghost town. They’re still identifying all the bodies, so no word yet.
➤ y/n: so we just have to sit here and wait to see if she’ll turn up alive or dead? that’s useless.
➤ camille: As per fucking usual with the pigs.
➤ camille: She also told me there’s supposed to be a lockdown or something. It’s on the news.
➤ y/n: a lockdown???
looking around the room, you spot the TV remote sitting on yoongi’s coffee table a few feet away. you try to sit up, but it takes you a couple minutes longer than you anticipate because of the pain. jungkook notices the movement from the corner of his eye and turns to look at you. “what are you doing?”
“tryna get the remote.”
jungkook grabs it and hands it to you, and you turn the TV to one of the local news channels.
➤ camille: They’re telling people not to leave their homes for anything non-essential while they search for him. Not sure how long that’s supposed to last. I guess now they wanna get serious about this fucking killer? Too late for that.
you and jungkook watch as the newscaster gives a rundown of last night’s events; to your small relief, it looks like the killer didn’t try to go to the campus after the murders at the party house. the newscaster goes on to announce that the police are instating a citywide curfew, which they’ll discuss further at a press conference in the afternoon. in the meantime, they advise everyone to only travel in groups, shelter in place if possible, and keep all windows and doors locked.
you laugh humorlessly, and jungkook glances at you again. “in groups? we were all packed into one damn house at the party, and how much did that help?”
➤ y/n: are you sure you’re okay at the uni?
➤ camille: I’m fine. My roommate brought some of her friends into our room so no one’s left alone. Either way, my dad is coming to help me move some of my things out and come back home.
➤ y/n: okay, please just stay safe.
➤ camille: You too.
“what now?” jungkook says once the newscast goes off. “everybody just stays holed up for like a month while they hunt for that guy?”
you roll your eyes. “people won’t stay in their homes for that long. i don’t know how any of this is gonna work. we wouldn’t be in this mess now if they’d cared when this first started happening.”
“you think so? students would still be getting killed. the only difference is that a good chunk of people would just be sitting at home freaking the fuck out and too scared to go anywhere while the killer would still be on the loose.”
“…damn. it’s truly bleak to assume we’d still be in the same situation. you’re an optimistic one.”
“better than deluding yourself about it.”
“whatever. where’s your family to freak out over you? somebody should be concerned about your whereabouts by now. didn’t you say you have a brother? speaking of, i’m gonna have to call my sister soon…”
jungkook turns back to the TV, and you can tell he’s become more tense than he was seconds ago. “yeah, but i’m estranged from them. yoongi’s my family.”
wrong thing to ask. you wonder about the reason for it but decide it’s probably better not to pry. “ah…that sucks.”
jungkook looks back at you like he’s irked by that response, but he makes a noise resembling a chuckle. “tell me about it.”
later that afternoon, after you’ve reassured your sister veronica on her work break that you are fine and at a “friend’s” house (because you have no clue how to refer to either of these men), you and yoongi sit at the kitchen table with brunch while jungkook goes outside to examine the damage to his car more closely.
it’s difficult to eat, but you do so anyway; you don’t want to be rude by wasting the food yoongi made. the news station still plays loudly from the living room as you wait for the press conference to come on.
“so, about you and jungkook...” yoongi starts, looking at you from over the rim of his cup of coffee.
“what about me and jungkook?”
“we both know he didn’t get those bites on his neck from a wild animal attack.”
you sit up straighter in your seat, a sudden spike of irritation hitting you. “aren’t we all grown here? who cares?” you try to sound unbothered despite feeling very green about all of this. after all, you’d only had sex for the first time last night.
“look, i don’t care. fuck him all you want. i’m just trying to advise you not to get emotionally involved, because that’s not how jungkook operates. the amount of girls i’ve had somehow coming after my neck when their situationship with him doesn’t work out is starting to get really old. it’d be best if you didn’t do the same.”
you’re simultaneously annoyed at his assumption of you and flustered because you want to prove him wrong about acting the same as the other girls. you hate both feelings. “i don’t want anything like that with him. i just needed something done and i got it. it doesn’t matter anymore.”
yoongi shrugs, and you get the sense he’s heard that before and isn’t convinced, but you can’t be bothered going back and forth with him about this.
the press conference comes on TV a few minutes later. they announce that classes at your university are cancelled indefinitely; parents and relatives will need to come move their students out, and the school will be operating with a skeleton staff and increased security presence for any students who can’t leave the campus. the citywide curfew will be at 8 p.m. every night, by which time almost everyone will need to be in their homes, and it will end at 6 a.m each morning.
“fun,” you say sarcastically. “at least i won’t have to worry about finals and trying not to get murdered at the same time.”
when jungkook comes back inside, you let him know about what he missed from the press conference.
“we should just stay here for now.” when you raise your eyebrows, jungkook says, “i basically live here when i’m not on campus for classes. plus yoongi-hyung lets me bring girls here all the time, this is nothing new.”
“if both of you are gonna be hiding out in my place, we’ll need to go to the store,” yoongi says. “more mouths to feed.”
“…or i could just go home?” you propose, your mind reeling at them already making plans. you feel awkward about staying in a stranger’s house for who knows how long. “i think we only really needed to stay here for the night. it’s fine.”
“will you have people there with you?” jungkook asks. “it’s not safe to be alone.”
you’re surprised he seems to be this concerned, but you answer: “well, i mean…my sister works 12-hour shifts as a nurse and she’s the only one living there, so…” you’d chosen your university because your older sister lived in the area, and because it was a tradition for women in your family to attend that school, but there were no other relatives you could turn to. your parents lived a couple of towns away.
yoongi comes to the conclusion so you don’t have to. “in other words, you’ll be alone most of the day.”
“…i guess. but i’m really not tryna impose on you by staying here.”
yoongi tilts his head, a small smirk on his lips. you automatically dislike the look on his face. “why don’t you take jungkook with you, then?”
you and jungkook glance at each other. “but, hyung…”
yoongi shakes his head. “you already know i can take care of myself. seriously, don’t worry about it.” and then yoongi winks at you. you don’t know for sure, but you take that to mean he’s probably packing heat like camille’s dad.
“if you’re sure.” turning to you, jungkook says, “so, how about it?”
“it’s my sister’s house, so i’ll have to ask her,” you say tentatively. “yeah…uh. let me do that now, i guess.” you pull out your phone to text her about it, though you know it’ll be a while before she gets another work break and can answer. “in the meantime…i think we’ll need to go to the store either way. and then to campus to pick our things up.”
“you’re right. let’s go then,” jungkook says.
the store is full of people panic-buying food and necessities in preparation for the curfew and effective lockdown, which you expected. you and jungkook end up going your separate ways to find the things you need because it’s quicker that way, and because you want to get in and out of the store as soon as possible. the crowdedness is too much like the party, and despite yourself, anxiety begins rising in you due to the claustrophobic atmosphere. you try to maintain even breaths as you keep searching for items. just what you need—a shiny new trauma to make your life harder.
you pass by a man in one of the less-crowded aisles before realizing he’s standing in front of what you need to get, examining one of the food packages. you wait a few moments to see if he’ll finish up soon, and when your eyes begin to wander, you see that there’s a long gray hair clinging to the back of his leather jacket, standing out clearly against the black. you probably wouldn’t have noticed this at all on any other day, except your mind has been on high alert for hours now; you find it strange that this strand clearly doesn’t match the shade or length of the hair on his head, which is short and plain brown. the shade of the hair also weirdly reminds you of something, though you can’t quite recall what; it remains just out of your mind’s reach.
you shake your head. he could’ve come to the store with somebody who has long gray hair, or hugged them before he left home, and a strand stuck to his jacket. it’s the least of your issues right now.
the man must feel your presence behind him because he turns around to look at you. you’re a little taken aback by his gaze; his expression isn’t mean per se, but very intense, as if his entire focus is trained on you.
there’s a second’s pause, like he’s thinking about something before he speaks. “am i in your way?” he asks, never breaking eye contact. his voice doesn’t portray any particular emotion.
“i just have to get something really quick.” he steps aside and gestures to the rows of food without a word. you slip in beside him and grab what you need before moving away again. “thanks.” you think about telling him about the hair on his jacket but decide against it; your decision is solidified when you spot a wolf figurine keychain on his keys, faded from time but still distinguishable. it makes your breath catch.
there’s no way it could be him. it was kind of dark in the party house with nothing but string lights and lamps illuminating it, and everything happened so quickly…but you do remember the colors of that mask. red, yellow, black—and that dark gray for the fur.
but maybe it’s really all just a coincidence; how much sense would it make to turn every person with wolf paraphernalia and random stray hairs into a suspect?
you walk down the rest of the aisle and away from the man with growing unease. maybe it’s time to find jungkook so you can get out of here; you can hardly keep yourself together, and despite your best attempts at logic, you can’t stop yourself from getting more frantic about those two things.
speeding up your walk and weaving through people, you look down every aisle in search for jungkook before you find him, rushing over to him as you breathe heavily.
“whoa, what the hell is wrong? did somebody do something?”
“no, i…”
“what happened?”
“it’s the…well, the…i saw, uh…”
“y/n.”
“i saw—the mask. the fur from the mask. do you remember it?”
“…you mean that stupid ass werewolf mask?” you gesture for jungkook to lower his voice. “wait, you’re saying you saw it in here?”
“no, i saw a man who had a strand of hair on his jacket…” it starts sounding ridiculous to your own ears the more you speak, but you continue. “the strand—it was the same color as that fur. the same length! and he—he had some weird wolf keychain…”
jungkook stares at you for a long moment before sighing. “you’re not serious? a random strand of hair that could be from anybody or anything? that could be from someone’s fucking grandma for all we know. plus a keychain…maybe he just likes wolves, y/n.”
you already know that saying i just feel like something is off won’t be enough to convince him. you sigh with a deep sense of defeat, considering that he’s probably right. maybe your initial assumption was the more sensible answer. “…right. i think i’m just really fucked up right now after everything that happened. can we finish up here?”
“yeah, we will. because you definitely need to lay down soon or something. you haven’t had any sleep all night, right?” the way jungkook eyes you with concern as if you’ve lost your mind annoys you. you’re about to give a smart remark when you notice something in the carrying-basket he has.
“…a baseball bat?”
“if the killer comes after us again, duh. we’ll be prepared this time. or at least i will.”
“good luck with that if he happens to have another gun.” rolling your eyes, you brush past jungkook to go to one of the checkout counters.
in the parking lot, you see that the man from earlier has also come out and is putting the last of his grocery bags into his car trunk. there’s really nothing spectacular about his appearance that would make him stand out in a crowd, with his average height and average looks, let alone incriminate him as a serial killer. yet that familiar unease won’t leave.
he sees you and jungkook walking towards the car together, and his eyes dart to the bullet holes in jungkook’s car. then he makes eye contact with you. you give a half-hearted wave, unsure what else to do with his eyes stuck on you. for a moment, his lips turn up into the faintest smile before he shakes his head and gets into his own car.

MONDAY, NOV 6
you’ve spent half of saturday and all of sunday trying to get used to living in your sister’s house with jungkook. veronica had been surprisingly okay with having him stay over, though most of it was her being relieved you finally found “a potential boyfriend who’s actually cute.” you didn’t have the energy to argue with her.
you’ve also been constantly checking on camille (to her eventual annoyance) and seeing if there are any more updates on lorelai. still nothing. your dread grows the further away you get from that bloody friday, but you try to keep your thoughts from straying too darkly.
right now, you, veronica, and jungkook all sit on the couch together in a neat little row, a bowl of popcorn in front of you on the coffee table and some science-fiction B-movie playing on the TV. your sister proposed the idea to distract yourselves from everything going on, but so far, you feel like it isn’t very effective. at least not for you. your mind keeps wandering to other things every 5 minutes.
eventually, veronica yawns widely, stretching her arms and legs before rising off the couch. “okay, i’m getting tired as fuck. i need to go to sleep for work tomorrow anyway. you guys enjoy the rest of the movie, okay?” she pats your shoulder as she passes by you on her way out of the room.
jungkook waves. “oh, sure. goodnight.”
“night, sis.”
when jungkook’s attention goes back to the movie, your sister makes eye contact with you and points her finger at you menacingly. you give her a shocked look while she mouths you know what i mean and swirls her finger in jungkook’s direction. embarrassed at the implication, you roll your eyes and turn your head back to the TV screen. having sex with jungkook on your sister’s couch is not high on your list of priorities tonight.
after your sister is gone, jungkook spreads out on the couch like it’s his own living room, placing his legs right over your lap. you sigh, looking over at him—and hoping that your eyes don’t linger too obviously on the expanse of thigh muscle that’s now on display from his shorts riding up higher.
“…really? i don’t want your big ole legs in my lap.”
jungkook just grins. “you should lay down too, it’s more comfortable this way.” you stare at him, and he tries to egg you on by pulling the sleeve of your shirt. “come on.”
“i’m not laying down on top of you, if that’s what you’re after.”
you do end up lying down, but on the opposite side of the couch so that your legs are tangled together, which really just increases the amount of contact between you either way—but whatever.
this makes jungkook laugh more. “ha, it’s like we’re scissoring.”
“so damn corny.”
you two continue watching the rest of the movie, but by the end of it you don’t remember half of what happened. taking the remote, you flip through the channels and try to find something else to look at. there isn’t much interesting to watch on a random monday night—which would be a school night anyway, if not for the current context.
as you search for a channel, jungkook asks: “what would you do if you found out who the killer was?”
you squint your eyes at his odd question. maybe the obvious answer would be to alert the police. but after days of having your anger stoked like a fire, that’s not exactly the answer you’d choose. “maybe i’d kill him.” the words leave your lips easily, and you hardly think twice about them once they’re out.
neither of you speak for a few long moments.
“does that scare you?” you ask, after the silence starts annoying you. you want to laugh, but there’s nothing really funny about the situation.
“…not really. angry women are kinda sexy. so are dangerous ones.”
you scoff. “i’m not tryna be sexy, you fool. and how many dangerous women have you dealt with? seems to me you only have a thing for the innocents.”
“it’s not like i only fuck virgins. you don’t even know me like that.” he nudges your leg with his foot like he’s also annoyed, but his expression doesn’t show any actual irritation.
“…if you want to go back and forth about it, go outside and argue with the wall or something. i’m in no mood, jungkook.” you shove his foot off of you. “just, holy shit. i wish i could have just one hour where i don’t have to think about any of this shit. my mind can’t even breathe.”
he’s actually quiet for a couple minutes after. you think he’s moved on from the conversation until he finally says, “i can give you an hour.”
your body becomes alert at that. the insinuation in his tone is obvious. you glance backwards as if your sister could hear you from upstairs, though you know that’s illogical. “i got what i wanted from you already,” you whisper.
“so? what if i wanted to give you more? you know you’re allowed to have sex with a person more than once, yeah?” he chuckles.
here he is making you this offer, and once again you feel like you’ve been reduced to the state of a confused lamb in front of a hungry wolf. you realize that the idea of letting yourself get more physically entangled with jungkook scares you. he is not someone you can turn into a boyfriend, who wants to be a boyfriend, and you are only looking to save yourself from any potential hurt. “it would just be sex—right? you have to know i’m not looking for anything deeper from you.”
jungkook smirks. like with yoongi, you don’t know if he believes you. “i know.”
you want to undo almost everything from the past few days. you can’t forget, but for a while, you want to just exist outside of the timeline where there’s a killer on the loose and one of your friends is missing. it’s too much to handle; your body is approaching its limits for the amount of stress it can take. you need a balm to numb the pain and the fear, and you dislike that you are giving into your base instincts to do so. you feel guilty, somehow. but pleasure is easy. at least it has been whenever you sought it on your own—and now you have someone else to give it to you. someone who is in front of you now, proposing it with all the willingness in the world. maybe there’s really nothing wrong with saying yes.
“jungkook…”
“hm?”
“please just shut the fuck up and don’t say another word about the outside world right now. i don’t want to think about anything but your…” you falter, still trying to get used to expressing what you want sexually.
jungkook sits up, his hands sliding up your legs and to your hips. “but my what?”
“um, your…” your thoughts end when he leans down and pulls the hem of your sweater up, planting a kiss on your waist where your skin meets the waistband of your sweatpants. one kiss turns into a second, and a third. the fourth becomes an open-mouthed embrace of his lips on your skin, and you make a small noise of pleasure when his tongue gets involved.
“careful. don’t want veronica to come down here, remember?”
you huff. “that isn’t happening any time soon, believe me.”
his kisses continue as he begins to slide your sweatpants down, revealing the waistband of your panties. once they’re fully on display, he leans forward to nuzzle his face between your thighs, his mouth and nose pressing into the seat of your underwear. his actions take you off guard. you actually give a brief chuckle from surprise, though you are also somewhat embarrassed. “now what the hell are you doing?”
“let me savor my meal before i eat it.” his warm breaths tickle your inner thighs as he speaks.
“ugh, don’t turn me off.”
“that’s funny, because i seem to have an easy time getting you wet.” to prove it, his fingers press into the seat of your underwear to feel the wetness that’s seeped into them; you sigh from the brief pleasure his fingers’ movements afford you before he pulls them away.
jungkook drags your panties down next, his lips trailing down your lower abdomen and across the curls of hair covering your pubic mound. your body fills with anticipation at the gradual pace of his actions and the purposeful, wet caresses of his mouth.
when he uses his thumbs to press your lower lips apart and expose you more fully to him, you have half a mind to be self-conscious about it until he places his mouth on you in earnest.
jungkook eats like someone who hasn’t done so in a while and doesn’t know when he’ll get to do it again. his mouth sucks at your clit like he’s desperate for you to come, tongue rolling over the swollen nub in an unrelenting pattern that has your stomach tensing, and you quickly realize you do have to try to silence yourself even if you know it won’t wake veronica up. you twist your hands into the sleeves of your sweater and lean your head back on the couch’s armrest as you arch your hips up closer to jungkook’s face, uncaring about how vulnerable you feel completely offering yourself up to him like this; right now, all you want is to feel good.
“gonna come quick again? maybe we can set a new record?” jungkook pins your knee against the couch with his elbow to keep your legs open as he slides two fingers inside, diving straight in instead of working you up this time. your body breaks out in a sweat and you know you really won’t last long once he does this, the tips of his fingers aiming for that dreadful, wonderful, and overpowering place inside you. you don’t know how people do this—you feel like you’re going to die when he stimulates that spot, and all you want to do is scream even though you can’t.
“a r-record? fuck off…” you choke out, though you begin to rock your hips into the rhythm of his fingers, needing so badly for him to take you over the edge again.
he chuckles. “i don’t think you want me to fuck off right now.”
you have no words for a good comeback when he buries his head between your legs and slurps at your pussy again and crooks his fingers repeatedly to where your orgasm is unexpectedly rushing down upon you, causing your body to tense as you gasp and stifle any sounds that escape with your sweater sleeve.
jungkook doesn’t stop there and you don’t really expect him to, because you’re beginning to learn he isn’t a one-and-done type of man. he keeps sucking and stroking you right into another releasewhile you push the beanie off his head, fist your fingers into his strands, and tremble over the sight of his pitch-black mess of hair between your thighs. something about the visual is so appealing to you.
after he has made you come for the third time, you watch him sit up on his knees to reach into his shorts and pull his dick out, his darkened tip slick with precum. his long hair falls into his face as he glances downward, using the hand he’d been fingering you with to lube himself up with your cum.
“come here,” you tell him, your voice coming out sharper than you intended; but he doesn’t care, because he follows your request without a word and presses himself into your side. the couch is just big enough to accommodate both of you in this position, but it’s still a tight fit, and your bodies are once again tangled together.
“let me touch you,” you say, your palm pressed to his stomach, feeling the firmness of the muscle.
he raises his eyebrows, like you didn’t even need to ask. “of course.”
“no, i mean…” he realizes what you actually mean as you brush his hand away from his shaft and wrap your fingers around it instead.
“should i teach you how?” jungkook brings his hand to overlap yours, though his breath becomes a bit strained when you slide your hand to the base of his cock and back to the tip again, the pads of your fingers rubbing over the sensitive head. seeing your fingers around him turns him on more than he thought it could, and it’s just a simple fucking handjob.
you roll your eyes. “stroking a dickshouldn’t be that hard.”
“everyone likes it differently, though. fast, slow, soft, or rough…just the tip, or the whole shaft.” you can’t deny that—or the way you find yourself throbbing at his words, his voice husky from the pleasure. which is why you let jungkook close his hand more fully around yours and guide your movements.
it’s captivating to observe his reactions from your hand on his skin—the heavy breaths he lets out and the soft moans and even softer whimpers that come in between the exhales. whenever you squeeze his shaft more firmly or rub your thumb against his leaking tip, you find yourself grinning at the rise and fall of his chest and the tongue that darts out of his mouth to lick at his lips. but mostly, your eyes are drawn back to the sight of your hand working him over, his thighs and stomach tensing sporadically.
eventually, you both look away from your joined hands and at each other’s faces. your eyes dart to his lips and back to his gaze again, and you shift your face forward to signal your desire for a kiss. he meets you there by pressing his lips to yours, and it isn’t hard for him to get lost in the meeting of your mouths and the heat from your palm on his shaft.
your free hand returns to his soft hair to tug on it as your tongues slide against each other. he grunts at the burn of his roots being pulled but doesn’t stop you; on the contrary, his body responds favorably as more precum swells from his tip and his nipples poke against the material of his shirt.
“do you like that, jungkook?” you mumble against his mouth.
“you know i do.” at some point, his hand falls away and he lets you stroke him on your own.
jungkook gives a shuddering moan into your mouth when he climaxes minutes later, thick streams of his cum shooting onto his shirt and dripping down your hand. he tries to keep quiet and doesn’t entirely succeed, but it doesn’t much matter.
you squeeze the few remaining drops of cum from his cockhead, trying to make sure you don’t grip hard enough to actually hurt him. you pull your sticky hand away from jungkook when you think he’s finally emptied, but he grabs your wrist and you look at him questioningly. you watch with shocked eyes as jungkook brings your hand up and takes your messy fingers into his mouth, sucking his cum from them. you know instinctively it isn’t the first time he’s done this—not with the look of pure satisfaction on his features as he licks his own seed off your fingers.
his enthusiastic pleasure is part of the reason why you accept when jungkook gives you a crushing kiss, passing his cum from his tongue to yours. you don’t know what you expected it to taste like, but it isn’t gross like you’ve heard others complain about when sharing their sex tales; despite being salty, the overall taste is neutral. still, it takes some getting used to.
when you pull away from each other, noses brushing and lips wet from each other’s spit, you look into his dark brown eyes and get the sudden desire to say something that’s been buried in the back of your mind for days now.
“why did you come straight to me that night?” you whisper. “like you already knew who you were there for.”
jungkook stares back, his lips curving up slightly. “i just wanted to. or i wanted you, more specifically.”
“that’s not an answer.”
“well, it’s my answer.”
“was i another one to knock off your list?”
“you think i have a list?”
“i’m not stupid. it’s not unusual for guys to have a list. plus, plenty of rumors go around.”
jungkook taps his fingers underneath your chin and kisses you on the lips again, though it is brief. “stop believing everything you hear.”
you clearly won’t be getting a straight answer from him tonight. with the moment broken, you sigh and begin pulling your bottoms back on. “…whatever you say, dude.” once you’re dressed, you climb over his body to get off the couch. you poke him in the chest as your eyes roam over him in his disheveled state, his shorts pulled down and his cum staining his black shirt. “might wanna clean yourself up, huh? i’m going to sleep. and, yeah…thanks for the distraction.”

TUESDAY, NOV 7
with the weather being as cold as it is and heading toward winter in another month or so, lorelai is surprised by how quickly the bodies began to smell.
she doesn’t know much of anything about bodily decomposition—because, to her parents’ disappointment, she wasn’t about to be a biology major and have to be around cadavers in a dissection lab—but if this were a movie or something, she would’ve thought it would take longer than just one day. the smell started to hit her the saturday after the party.
but ultimately, this isn’t a movie, and the fact that she’s trapped in a decrepit house in some remote part of town is her present reality.
she doesn’t remember anything about how she got to this house; she thinks she must have been concussed before she was brought here. her head has been hurting badly for days, and not even the simple relief of a painkiller is available.
what she does know is that she’s being kept in a dirty living room on an equally dirty mattress, her hands and legs tied by rope and zip-ties. if there were any miniscule chance of her escaping, it would be impossible to go anywhere considering both her ankles are broken, only adding to the amount of physical pain she’s been in for days.
the living room is mostly empty except for the bodies of some other students from the party, which have been scattered around the room. lorelai tries not to look at them—especially not at the ones she knows—but it’s difficult. they become even more terrifying to her when night falls, turning into dark, rotting shadows in the corners of the room. there has been nothing but the company of these corpses for days, and a couple of visits from the killer.
he's never once taken off his wolf mask or his gloves, and every other part of his body stays covered in all black. she doesn’t have the first idea of what he looks like underneath it all. he has spoken to her a few times, but the voice isn’t one she recognizes. his words when she first awoke inside this house still knock around in her mind, filling her with dread.
he’d crouched in front of her, watching her move around on the mattress and try to orient herself. he had the casual air of someone observing a flipped-up bug struggle on the sidewalk before crushing it underfoot. “you aren’t y/n, but you’ll do for now. we’ll have some real fun later on. you’ll help me give her a good scare.”
“how the fuck do you know y/n?” lorelai had struggled against her restraints, but this only made her newly broken ankles hurt worse. tears began to fall from her eyes from the pain and fear.
the killer had said nothing to that—only tilted his head curiously and stared at her, which was unnerving even if she couldn’t see his eyes.
“you have no fucking reason to go after her, she’s not even a virgin anymore you dumb fuck—” with those words, the killer had backhanded her, sending her already injured head into a fresh wave of agony.
“things would’ve been different if not for that fucking party. you students think you’re so fucking clever, yeah? and look how you paid for it.” it was impossible to see any facial expression, but his body language spoke of anger. “no matter, though. virgin or not, i’ll see this through to the end.”
now it’s yet another morning, and he has returned. he has a lot of debris in his hands—stuff like sticks and dry moss and foliage. he’s also carrying a small bag, the contents of it a mystery. everything he does causes alarm for lorelai, but now confusion joins in.
“ready to have some fun?” he asks. with duct tape over her mouth, she can’t answer back. she watches as he arranges the debris on the ground in front of her, her anxiety mounting as he takes a lighter out of his pocket and sets fire to the foliage.
leaning forward, he rips part of the duct tape away from her mouth with his gloved hand, causing her face to sting. “got anything to say?”
“wh-what the fuck are you doing?”
“i’m gonna stoke a nice fire here…get this knife hot enough to hurt.” he brings out his knife then, and lorelai shrinks away from the blade as he drags the flat of it across her throat—but there’s nowhere else to go, as she’s sitting up against the wall. “then i’ll just cut this pretty little body up a bit. the finishing touch…i think i’ll slice your throat open. how does that sound?” he takes the knife away from her neck to hold the blade over the flames.
lorelai’s breath hitches, and her stomach begins to physically hurt from the outpouring of anxiety flowing through her. she starts to sob, trying to speak through the tears and snot and drool. the only question she can muster up is, “wh-why?”
“this is for y/n—remember? i hope that concussion hasn’t fucked with your memory.” the killer watches the reflection of the flames on the blade as it grows hotter. “and…i’m doing someone a favor.” he doesn’t wait for her to speak again before putting the duct tape back in place over her mouth, leaving her to cry to herself and face her rising distress as he heats the knife until it’s burning hot. internally, she wishes there was any way in the world to get out of this situation.
it isn’t much longer before he’s finished. lorelai screams as he approaches her with the knife, and then at the feeling of the red-hot blade scorching her skin, though the sounds are stifled by the duct tape.
“now, be still while i fix you up.”

WEDNESDAY, NOV 8
you go outside that afternoon to check the mail and have an excuse to get out of the house; it doesn’t matter if it’s only for a few moments. you’re not used to staying cooped up in one place for so long with absolutely nothing to do, and you feel like you’re not too far off from going mad with cabin fever. it hasn’t even been a week since everything happened.
you open the mailbox, and there are the usual bills along with something strange: a blank envelope with no return address. even your sister’s address isn’t written on it. flipping it over, you see that the envelope was never sealed. someone must’ve just come up and put it inside the mailbox. but who the hell would do that, and for what reason? whenever any of your neighbors have something to give you or your sister, they come straight up to the house to do it.
inside the envelope is a set of polaroids. their content makes you drop the rest of the mail. your legs grow weak, and you end up sitting down hard on the end of the driveway, some of the polaroids slipping from your hands. the pictures show the bodies of some of the students from your university, their corpses posed in odd positions and some bare of clothing—all dead.
you struggle to breathe as you frantically flip through the rest of the pictures. in the center of all the group photos is lorelai, her neck torn open and her wrists and ankles tied. she’s still dressed the way she was the night of the party, though her dress is stained with dark brown blood. there are open cuts all over her bare skin, their appearance rough-looking and uneven as if they’ve been cauterized.
there are several group polaroids, several of lorelai alone, and several angles of the outside of a house, which must be the same one the bodies are being kept in. one photo of lorelai slips out of your shaking hands, and you see there’s barely legible handwriting on the back of it, which reads, “this is just the teaser, y/n.”
you scream and don’t stop screaming until jungkook comes running out of the house holding the baseball bat, as if the killer might’ve gotten bold enough to attack in daylight. a couple of your neighbors peek out of their houses and make their way over with concern on their faces once they see you sitting on the ground, your exclamations ringing through the street.
there’s a disarrayed group of people around you grabbing at your shoulders and asking what’s wrong, what happened, and then gasps and exclamations of shock when they see the polaroids. you feel yourself being pulled to your feet and then lifted up—maybe it’s jungkook, because it smells like him—but you’re too disoriented to make proper sense of anything right now. you can only think of how much time has been wasted, and how little time lorelai actually had left.

SUNDAY, NOV 12
in the main lobby of the funeral home, you sit in a chair next to camille, staring into empty space while the other girl tries to cry as quietly as she can. she cries as if she’s ashamed of it, and you wish you could comfort her, but you don’t know what to say or do. for the past few days, you’ve mostly just felt numb.
you’re waiting for veronica to come back out so you can leave, as she’d stayed behind after the service to talk to lorelai’s family for a little longer.
lorelai’s family had opted to have her cremated after seeing the state of her body. a lot of other families did the same after the events of cherry bomb, not even wanting to entertain the idea of a closed-casket funeral. you can understand their feelings about it if you push through the haze in your mind to consider it for long enough. though the morticians have done the best they can over the past week, sometimes knowing that your loved one has multiple stab wounds and eviscerated organs beneath all the makeup and fancy clothing is too much to handle.
when veronica finally comes out, the three of you walk outside to join the rest of the people who’ve started getting in their cars. some still linger in small huddles, shaking their heads and wiping their faces.
jungkook, who’d driven you and veronica to the memorial, waits outside for you all, leaning on the side of the building. you both thought it was probably better for him not to attend the service considering lorelai was never fond of him and he didn’t know her that well.
“is it finished?” he asks.
“it is.” veronica sighs. “god, funerals are so damn…bleak.”
you notice a man waving at your group from the other side of the parking lot and realize it’s camille’s dad. her posture straightens when she catches sight of him, and she hurriedly tries to wipe the rest of her tears before shoving her tissue into her pocket. “i-i think my dad is waiting for me. i…i’ll see you guys later, alright?”
“okay, camille.” the strange absence of emotion that you’ve been trapped in for the past few days suddenly cracks open when you notice camille’s anxious demeanor as she speed-walks away from the rest of you. intense sorrow overtakes you; you don’t want her to leave, but she has to go.
you are crying before you fully understand what’s happening. veronica puts her arms around you and squeezes you against the side of her body. jungkook reaches a thumb up to wipe away your tears, though you don’t let him get very far before turning your head away and into veronica’s shoulder.
“y/n…”
“how am i supposed to go on?” you exclaim, catching the attention of a few people nearby. “the police said maybe she’s just staying with friends. and now look. plus, the killer knows where me and my sister live now…maybe he always knew.”
“we don’t even have a clue who the killer is…” jungkook mumbles. “there’s no one you know of who might have a grudge against you?”
“no, jungkook. the police already gave me all that questioning. and it doesn’t help me feel any better to think maybe all these deaths are somehow my fault.” you scoff.
“y/n, nothing’s your fault because some freak decided to go around killing people; that was his decision.” jungkook argues.
you nod slightly to his words but say nothing else, not wanting to go further into that topic. you don’t know if you can believe him about that.
the parking lot is emptying out now, so you try to pull yourself together so the three of you can leave. “well…you don’t need to keep staying with us if you don’t want to. we have those assigned bodyguards now, so…” you glance in the direction of one other car sitting beside jungkook’s—inside it are two men the police force appointed after the polaroids of the bodies were planted in your sister’s mailbox.
jungkook looks at you as if he’s trying to gauge your expression; he himself looks surprised, though he attempts to play it off. veronica glances between you both, recognizing the awkward shift in the air.
“you don’t want me there anymore? i mean it is your house—” he glances at veronica “—so that’s fine with me if—"
“what? i didn’t say i don’t want you there, neither did veronica, it’s just if you don’t want to be there—"
“i never said i didn’t want to be there, though?”
you both become quiet, jungkook looking at you and you returning his gaze for a few seconds before looking off to the side. veronica is still standing between you both like she’d rather be anywhere else on earth.
“i just figured that maybe…” why are you being so concerned about me? isn’t this the part where we go our separate ways? is what you really want to ask. you have seen and learned enough from your friends’ and even your acquaintances’ experiences to realize that any other one night stand would not have cared so much. that’s how these things go, right? but he isn’t really a one night stand anymore, either.
you don’t even know if you’re considered friends with benefits, but what would that change? you’d still seen others tossed aside without much thought by their FWBs while in times of need. considering his history, you don’t understand why jungkook isn’t following the same template now, and you don’t think you should ask why for fear of breaking the illusion.
fed up with your own confusion, you decide now isn’t the time to lament on your lack of knowledge about these things. “nevermind. that’s fine. so you’ll stay?”
the corner of his mouth lifts in a brief smile. “i’ll stay as long as you won’t try to kick me out.”
you aren’t in the mood to attempt to smile back, but he seems to understand that. “right, well...good.”
“…now that you two have figured that shit out, can we leave?”
--
FRIDAY, NOV 17
jungkook thought that getting outside a bit more would help you feel better and prevent you from developing a complete fear of leaving the house, which is why you’re sitting in this claustrophobic little diner now with him, yoongi, and camille—and of course, your ever-present bodyguards in the booth behind you all. but this outing isn’t doing anything to mitigate your fears.
nearly 10 minutes in, you have to ask jungkook to switch seats with you so you’re not on the outside of the booth, as you’re afraid that it’s too easy-access if anyone—say, the killer, though you’ve been trying not to think so obsessively about him—were to come in and start stabbing you to death right where you sit. being on the inside calms you for a little while until you become anxious about the window beside you; what if he has a gun again and simply shoots through the glass? all he’d have to do is stand on the sidewalk and aim, his werewolf mask laughing at you with its eternally frozen growling expression, and your brains would be all over the table just like that frat guy’s.
your meal sits half-eaten as you get increasingly lost in your anxieties. the others are talking about something, but you can’t hear what. it’s like some of your senses have shut down or begun working incorrectly. the strawberry sauce in camille’s sundae looks too much like blood and even smells like it from the occasional whiffs you get, and you find yourself staring at the sundae dish and wanting to throw it across the restaurant.
jungkook’s hand touches you on the back, and the tension in your body increases. he feels it and draws away, though he keeps trying to meet your eyes. “are you okay?” he whispers.
“why ask that? she obviously isn’t,” yoongi says, like he’s annoyed with the obviousness of jungkook’s question.
“hyung, i’m just trying to help.”
“it was your great idea to come out here when she didn’t want to, though.”
“y/n—” camille starts.
“can’t you throw that out? it smells like blood.” your mouth feels useless and hard to maneuver, but you manage to say those words.
“what?”
“the…that. that thing.” everyone looks at camille’s melting sundae. yoongi raises his eyebrows.
“blood?”
“do you mean it—looks like blood?” jungkook suggests.
you raise your voice in irritation, not understanding how everyone else is unable to perceive the same scent that you do. “no, i-it does, but it smells like blood too! just get rid of it!”
one of the waitresses comes over to the table. “is everything okay over here?”
“um, we’re fine! i’m finished with this though.” camille hurriedly hands the sundae off to her, trying to keep the situation calm.
“oh, well—the rest of you too? that’ll be it, then?” she gathers everyone’s plates and leaves with a smile that attempts to be cordial but is still colored with unease.
her departure leaves a stiff silence in which you all spare glances at each other but try to avoid directly meeting eyes. camille is the first to break it.
“i’ll ask my dad if i can stay over with you,” she suggests. she suddenly sounds much more tired. jungkook’s eyebrows furrow slightly at her words; yoongi silently glances at the younger man. “just, you know…maybe the extra company would help? he’s been treating me like a kid again, but we should be safe with the bodyguards there, so…”
“you don’t have to do that,” you say, though you’re too exhausted to truly argue.
“you’re in shambles, y/n. and it’s not just for your benefit. i’m feeling pretty fucking alone right now, and it’s hard for my dad to understand the emotional side of it, so…” camille plays with her fingers and doesn’t look at anyone as she speaks; you know talking about her father can be a sore spot for her sometimes. “uh, anyway. not to trauma-dump or anything. just let me do this.”
you sigh. “fine…okay. do whatever you have to. can we just leave?”
as you’re all walking outside, jungkook pulls you aside.
“i still worry about you after that incident at the store, you know?” he admits.
you shrug his hand off your arm and glare at him. “you think i’m crazy.”
“i don’t. i just want you to be able to relax and not feel like you’re being hunted 24/7. i don’t think the killer is constantly waiting around the nearest corner for you, y/n.”
“you don’t know how close the killer could be. he knows where i go to sleep at night. so stop the bullshit, jungkook.”
“you’ll be okay. you have me, remember? i protected you that night…i can do it again.”
you examine his face for a long moment and find that you are too overwhelmed with stress and fear to be moved by his words. “i’d like to trust you…but the killer might just murder you too. then who’ll save me?” you don’t wait for his response before walking away to catch up with the other two.

LYING IN WAIT...
it’s strange to see the police bodyguards in veronica’s driveway and backyard everyday. it’s not the same two all day—they switch off so that there are two doing a day shift and two doing a night shift.
the security team at the hospital where your sister works is aware of the situation, so you try not to get too worried about her safety when she’s away from the house—but it’s difficult.
there have been no more kills connected to your university since lorelai. it seems like half the town has forgotten their fears and tried to go back to some sense of normalcy while the other half still hides away and lives in perpetual panic, including you. the former group of people has started muddying the waters for the police, with some teenagers getting brave enough to sneak around in wolf masks and vandalize buildings with red-lettered virgin graffiti just to fuck with the cops. there have even been a few people who turned themselves in claiming to be the killer—only their supposed confessions never matched the details of the case.
reporters have tried to hound lorelai’s family and your family several times for any speculations or answers on the killer’s identity, but none of you are willing to spread misinformation just to give them something to write about. however, that hasn’t stopped other residents of your town from sharing their speculations and even implicating their own relatives or neighbors—whether as a fucked-up joke or as genuine revenge just depends on whoever’s speaking. with all of these false leads, the police are still no closer to finding the killer than they’d initially been.
everyday feels like you’re waiting for the other shoe to drop, though the chances of any more kills are starting to seem improbable; the university is practically empty. but it doesn’t matter to you if the school is nearly deserted, because the killer has his aims set on you now, and you only wish you knew why.
up in your room, you and camille sit on your bed gazing out the window—the window that must always remain locked now, for fear of unwanted ingress. you’ve never been uncomfortable in your sister’s house, but lately you’ve been feeling like you’re boxed in with every wall pressing towards you.
sitting up from your lying-down position, you have to find the appropriate words for a moment before speaking. “camille—i can’t stop feeling like maybe we aren’t entirely safe,” you murmur.
camille raises her eyebrows. “why not? those guys stay outside all day, and we keep everything locked up day and night. literally, the only time the front door opens is for veronica to leave and come back from work everyday.”
“i don’t know. there’s no particular reason for it…it just seems like we’re waiting for something.”
“…yeah? for the killer to be caught.”
“but he’s made no moves recently. you remember the policeman’s daughter, right? i even texted her and she hasn’t heard anything new that we don’t already know. seems like things have slowed down at the police station. it’s not like that abandoned house was in the killer’s name or anything, so what leads would they have?”
camille frowns and rubs her eyes like something’s in them, but when she looks at you directly, you see her eyes are red from unshed tears. “…i want things to be okay, though. i’m tired of living like this. you know how i had to beg just to get my dad to let me leave the house. he’s constantly on edge.” you feel even more unsettled to see camille so distressed lately, as she’s always been the only one able to pull something funny out of a terrible situation—something enough to distract you from the horrors. “all i know is they’ll have to dig his ass out of some hole in the ground at some point. he can’t hide in this town forever.”
“yeah…i guess you’re right.” you still don’t feel reassured, but you don’t voice your doubts.

WEDNESDAY, NOV 22
“i think i might go mad,” camille says from her position on the armchair, her limbs splayed haphazardly across it and one hand stuck in a bag of chips.
you sigh. “you’re the one who wanted to watch this thanksgiving movie marathon.”
“the most mid holiday of the season,” jungkook adds.
“no one cares what either of you think, thanks.” it isn’t long before the program is over and the ending credits are rolling. with an exaggerated exhale, camille gets up from the chair and crunches the bag of chips in her hand. “i’m going to your room, y/n. you two just do whatever it is you do down here, since you hate my movie choices so much!”
“means we can finally turn the channel.” jungkook snatches the remote off the coffee table and does just that.
camille goes into the kitchen to throw out the chip bag and wash her hands. your focus returns to the TV. a few seconds later, you hear the upstairs flooring creak above the noise of the water pouring from the tap.
“what’s up, sis? i thought you were sleeping.” veronica is known to be a deep sleeper, so it’s not common for her to be getting up in the middle of the night. there’s no answer to your question. you glance upstairs, but your sister isn’t standing there; she isn’t standing at all, instead being carried by someone wearing an all-too familiar mask.
you scream as the killer tosses your sister over the stair railing. her torso has been sliced open from collarbone to navel, her body leaving a large splatter of blood on the floor where she lands. jungkook jumps to his feet but is momentarily immobilized as he gazes at your sister’s body crumpled on the floor. you slide off the couch and crawl over to her, still crying out, but there’s no life left to try and salvage.
the screaming brings camille rushing to the kitchen doorway. she can barely vocalize what’s wrong? before spotting veronica’s body and stopping in her tracks. in a moment that feels like it takes forever to pass, the killer pulls a gun from his waistband—you recognize it as one of the guns the policemen carry and realize he must’ve killed the bodyguard posted in the backyard—and shoots her in the chest twice.
“camille!” when you go over to where she’s lying on the ground, she is still alive but bleeding intensely and struggling to breathe. your knees slip in the blood that begins pooling around her. “shit, camille…p-please don’t die…” you press your hand against the wounds, but they’re bleeding so much that your efforts don’t help, and the pressure of your hand causes her more pain.
there’s the sound of a gunshot at the front door as the lock is blown off, and the door is banged open a few seconds later by the remaining bodyguard. he has virtually no time to fire off another shot before the killer is shooting him in the head first.
the killer throws the gun aside, taking his knife in his other hand and making his way down the stairs. “your sister left her window cracked open. i waited for days for a slip-up like that. see how much harm can come from a simple mistake? well, she was collateral damage anyway.”
even in your panic, it’s as if all your bodily functions freeze when you recognize the familiarity of the killer’s voice. camille reacts with a rattling gasp, but her body is becoming too weak for her to utter anything; all she can do is watch as the man stops at the bottom of the stairs and pulls his mask off.
“yoongi…” your voice breaks as you try to speak again, but nothing coherent comes out.
he drops the mask on the floor and brushes a hand through his hair. “i guess you weren’t expecting that. good. we kept it up ‘til the end.”
your lips form around the word we, but your vocal cords won’t cooperate. you twist around to look at jungkook, who is still standing by the couch.
the man who you’d gotten too close to for your own good and done so many firsts with, who’d promised you that he’d protect you and was even there for you on the day of lorelai’s memorial, looks at you now with eyes glowing from the thrill as his mouth twitches into a smile—small at first but growing into a full grin. “i almost can’t believe we staged all that shit and it actually worked. you really believed it all, y/n.
not all of those kills were hyung’s, of course...there’s no way i’d miss out on the best parts. you don’t know what it’s like until you kill a person for the first time. crashing cherry bomb was his idea, though. and lorelai was mine. that bitch would’ve kept you away from me, and i needed her gone for this kill to work.”
through tears, you finally muster up the strength to ask, “wh-why have you done this? that night…y-you mean to tell me none of that was real? being shot at—why would you—” your voice rises until you’re shouting. “you-you’ve killed so many people. what was the purpose?!”
jungkook’s smile fades somewhat as he pretends to think about it, acting like he’s reminiscing on wistful memories. “i realized that killing and fucking aren’t that different, y/n. the real ecstasy of it is in taking someone pure…and doing something to them that has never been done before, and can never be done again. there’s a certain eroticism in killing someone, stabbing them, entering them…it’s like sex in the most profane sense.”
“you’re disgusting,” you mutter, glaring at him through your tears. you can’t help but feel shame to think of the times you’d had sex with him. had he simply been imagining murdering you during those moments? it makes you want to throw up.
yoongi steps closer until he’s right in front of you and camille. “and as for me…i just enjoy it. practice really does make perfect. you wouldn’t believe how entertaining it can be to see someone beg for their life.” his lips turn upwards in a dark smile resembling jungkook’s. “but instead of raging at us, i think you have bigger matters to be concerned with.” yoongi gestures his knife hand to camille, and when you look down at her body, you realize she’s no longer moving.
you lift camille’s head up with your hands as if that could make her return your gaze, though you can find no sign of breathing or pulse. “god, no…” you scream in frustration, your hands slipping in her blood. you check once more and again for any signs of life, because there is just no possible way this could’ve happened, but there are none present. “please—i’m sorry…”
“time’s up.” yoongi grabs your arm and yanks you away from camille, jostling you to try to get you on your feet. you flail around in his grip, fruitlessly scratching at his arms that are covered by his thick jacket, before managing to elbow him in the groin with your frantic movements. “shit!” this causes him to loosen his grip, which is enough for you to scramble away from him, slipping in the blood as you go.
you make it to the other side of the room where the officer lies facedown—though there isn’t much left of his face from yoongi’s shot. you snatch the gun from the dead officer’s hand and point it in the direction of both men. the safety is already off; all you’d have to do is pull the trigger and kill either one of them right now. before you can act, yoongi uses his free hand to pull another gun from his waistband—his own.
“as i said before, i know how to take care of myself,” he says, flicking the safety off and aiming for you, though his stance shows he’s still in pain. “please don’t assume it’ll be that easy. do you even know how to shoot a gun?”
you and yoongi are at an impasse as you both point your guns at each other, jungkook looking on with casual amusement coloring his face. “fuck you,” you spit out. you remain hesitant to fire on him, knowing that even if you succeed, he could fatally shoot you at the same time.
“let’s not do it this way,” yoongi says, his voice low and soft in an attempt to be persuasive, though you just find it disturbing. “you were supposed to be a clean kill. a few stabs and it’d all be over. i’ll even let jungkook do it, since you seem to like each other so much. do you really want to be shot down like a dog like camille over there?”
“you and him can both fry in hell!” you shout.
yoongi glances over at jungkook. they both nod before yoongi hands the knife to him, and the younger man takes a few steps in your direction. you don’t know whether to point the gun at him or keep it trained on yoongi; your head is pounding with a headache that you’ve only just realized you have. “don’t come over here. stay away from me!”
you press your back to the wall as jungkook comes closer, inching towards your right side with his knife at the ready. you slide away from him as you keep your back against the wall. “hand it over, y/n. it doesn’t have to be like this.”
“hand it over and let you kill me? are you insane? you lied to me this whole time, you fucking piece of shit.”
jungkook scoffs and looks at yoongi as if to say can you believe this? “why wouldn’t i lie to you? you were always meant to die.”
he won’t stop coming towards you, and you’re running out of room to slide away from him. you grasp for anything to try to reason with him, though you know it’s futile. “you realize that if you kill me now and you conveniently survive, everyone will know it’s you? you’ve been living here for weeks, you jackass!”
“hyung and i have that covered. it’s not for you to worry about, considering you won’t be worrying about anything soon.”
jungkook lunges for you with the knife, thinking he can catch you off guard and overpower you. you scream and pull the trigger in your frenzied state of mind, shooting yoongi. the next few things seem to happen almost simultaneously:
you hear the crash of yoongi’s body hitting the TV stand and the TV falling to the floor.
you feel jungkook’s knife piercing your shoulder, causing you to fire a stray round into the wall from the unexpected burst of pain.
you hear another gunshot that’s not from you; you see and feel jungkook stumble into you, the knife sliding from his fingers and to the floor.
you realize that he’s been shot when his hand flies to the bullet wound on his lower back; he’d been standing in front of you, and yoongi meant to hit you, not him.
“jungkook!” yoongi’s shout is furious and regretful as he steadies himself on the TV stand.
trying to push the pain into the back of your mind, you clumsily grasp jungkook’s fallen knife and run for the stairs. more shots follow you and most of them miss but one, which strikes you in the thigh.  while you cling to the stair railing and try to regain your footing, you are suddenly staring mortality in the face and understanding with a freezing-cold clarity that you will die right now if you don’t do something.
your nervous system vibrates with fear and adrenaline as you tighten your grip on the police officer’s gun and shoot yoongi with it twice—in the same area he’d shot camille.
these last two bullets finish him off immediately. you don’t think it’s fair, with how camille suffered and bled and died in your arms. for a moment, you’re so outraged that you wish he’d come back to life so that you could kill him again. you’re torn from these thoughts by jungkook.
“you bitch…he was my only family after everyone else threw me away. do you understand? i’ll fucking kill you!” jungkook is nearly writhing in the ground from his upset and from the hurt of his injury; it frightens you that this same man is someone you once thought you could grow fond of.
you aim the gun for jungkook next, but the chamber is empty. either way, he currently has no weapon, which leaves you with a small chance to get away before he re-arms himself. throwing the gun away, you stagger up the rest of the steps while his screams continue echoing up to you.
you give no thought to the blood trail you’re leaving behind as you rush to veronica’s room and to the window yoongi had entered through. you begin squeezing yourself through, keeping your grip on your knife all the while, but your injuries make it difficult to move. a few more tears slip out as you try to balance your injured leg on the tree branch beneath the window, and the desperation of wanting to give up clings to you.
you hear jungkook’s heavy and limping footsteps coming up the stairs, and you attempt to hurry, but you’re only halfway out of the window. when he crashes into the room, it’s unnervingly easy for him to grab your arm and yank your body back through the window, uncaring of how you get scraped up in the process.
he jams you up against the nightstand with one of the kitchen knives to your neck to stop your movements; his harsh maneuver causes the objects on the nightstand to rattle. the nightstand’s edge digs into the backs of your thighs, the pressure causing your wounded thigh to hurt more.
“you want to know why i picked you?” jungkook hisses, the knife’s blade stinging your throat as it begins to break skin. “you were just another choice out of many, but i decided you’d be the first one that i’d fuck and kill.”
it’s painful to hear, but it angers you at the same time. “fuck you!” in your rage, you spit in his eyes. jungkook jerks back and the knife shifts from its previous position at your neck; you take those few seconds to grasp the alarm clock off the nightstand and crash it against his head.
“shit—!” he cries out, stumbling and grasping the side of his head. he tries to grab for you again, but you jump onto the bed and crawl away from him, your stomach lurching at all of veronica’s blood soaked into the sheets. you spot a small decorative glass bowl on the dresser—the one filled with little candies that you’d always teased veronica for, saying she was so much like a grandma handing out treats to her grandchildren. when your feet touch the ground again, you clasp your hand around it like it’s a lifeline and fling it at jungkook’s head as hard as you can, just as he makes it around the bed to your side. the shards cut his face when it breaks, slowing him down further as he grabs his slashed and bleeding face. one of his eyes is blinded from the blood and glass.
this will probably be your only chance while he’s struggling to gather himself. you rush towards him with the knife handle tight in both of your hands and drive the blade into the middle of his chest, putting all your strength into that movement—just as his own knife impales your abdomen.
you are both simultaneously struck from the shock of being stabbed, and it takes you a few long moments to piece your mind back together as the pain radiates throughout your body. jungkook groans when you shift the knife around in his wound as you pull it out, letting his blood flow out freely. his breaths become wet and rattling as he chokes on his own blood, the red fluid staining his mouth and dripping down to his neck. he jams his knife further into your wound in retaliation so that the handle is flush against your body, causing your head to spin.
“i-if i die, i’m taking you w-with me.” jungkook gasps with his remaining effort. his body starts to sag from its standing position as he weakens, his hand slipping from the knife handle. he loosely grasps the comforter with one hand as he collapses to his knees, his torso becoming soaked with blood and his head bleeding from your earlier hits.
you drop your knife and lean against the bed too, shifting your body to find a position that could lessen the pain, but it’s impossible with a knife lodged in your abdomen. you know enough to understand that you’ll bleed out faster if you remove it, though, so you resist the urge. “you can rot in hell alone, jungkook.” you watch him struggle for what feels like minutes before his breaths stop altogether and his body slumps to the floor. he is just a blur of clothes and blood through your tears. you’ve never felt so lonely in your life.
you have a thought to call 911, but you’re becoming more and more lightheaded from the blood loss, and you can already hear sirens approaching on your street. you figure one of your neighbors must’ve called after hearing the gunshots; perhaps the bodyguard sent for backup before he was shot. your rescue has come much later than you would’ve preferred—or maybe everything just happened much faster than it seemed. you can’t tell anymore.
you can’t tell anymore, and you no longer want to look at the carnage around you, and nothing makes any sense. so, you close your eyes to it all; and when you feel someone lifting you in their arms—this sensation is so familiar—and maneuvering you onto a stretcher, you allow yourself to relent to it and empty your mind of everything.

Okay that hive mind Riddle this is soo hot. But hear me out, the colony is very important to and in an effort to maintain peace, they rotate who gets to breed you on a schedule. They're 5 of them and that gives you 1-2 days grace period for "me" time. And Riddle is a major hard ass on the schedule.
"No, Ace. You know you have mondays and you should have planned around that."
The schedule is as follows:
Mon- Ace, Tue- Cater, Wed- Deuce, Thurs- Trey, and Fri- Riddle
Because Cater and Trey make a point to clean you up at the beginning and end of their days so that's why
Sorry, Idk why Im soo fixated on how they're set up
These are excellent thoughts aaaaa!!! <3 not only does breeding you on a schedule keep things organized and allows you to slowly but surely adapt to the way the hive works, it also boosts morale for the aliens themselves. Relief sweeps through the rest of the hive seeing their new Queen soft and round with new clutches. Now they won’t have to worry about the dangers of going extinct.
Ace and Deuce, while younger than the other three, are perhaps the easiest to approach. Deuce is friendly and so is Ace (though usually when he wants something from you). For a while, your relationship with Ace is one of transaction. Deuce makes sure you’re always prepared and taken care of before, during, and after breeding. You look forward to the days with him because he treats you so tenderly. He tries to tell you in what limited human speech he can use that that’s how he was brought up. It’s important to treat one’s mate with respect and admiration.
Ace, though childish and seemingly more interested in your body than you, gradually warms up to you. He can’t let Deuce outshine him, so he starts making an effort. He sees how much happier it makes you when he sticks around after breeding you, when he gathers snacks for you, when he talks to you, etc and realizes he’s been a terrible mate so far. Now he’s improving himself and his methods have changed. He genuinely wants a connection with you, even if he slyly skirts around that truth when asked.
Trey and Cater are much more mature than Ace and Deuce. They look after you in their own ways, though no one can beat Trey when it comes to that. He’s a natural caretaker, always putting you before himself, but you think he has ulterior motives for this. Gaining your trust would definitely be one of them. You’re hesitant to open up to Trey because of this. Cater makes it easier but not by a lot, if only because his constant fawning over you feels…superficial sometimes. Even though you realize your appearance in this hive makes you a curiosity for everyone else, it still manages to embarrass you just a little when he smothers you, calling you cute in his native tongue. At the very least, you appreciate how both he and Trey will go out of their ways to ensure your safety on their allotted days.
The dynamic between you and Trey sometimes borders that of a pet. He loves to wash and clean you, and he prepares delicious meals for you. You keep expecting him to put a collar on you next. Cater already has the cute nicknames covered. There’s a very clear divide between you and them. You receive the treatment of a beloved pet, but when it comes to breeding you’re used for your intended purpose: to carry their young. It’ll take time for them to view you as a mate they wish to keep forever and not just a convenient hole to keep their young safe and snug.
And Riddle!!! Riddle is probably the most anxious and high-strung around you. He’s devoted to his schedule, to the rules of the hive, to doing everything in accordance with tradition. Sometimes it feels controlling, but he really only ever has your best interests in mind. He’s so infatuated with you and adores every little aspect about you! From the way your human toes curl in pleasure to the way your human voice wavers with soft gasps and groans to the way you leak salty liquid from your pretty human eyes when something feels good or hurts. It’s all so fascinating. He wants to learn more.
When he isn’t using his days to breed you, he’s spending that time studying you, courting you, enjoying delicious foods with you in what feels like the equivalent of a human tea party. Though he has a temper and can get frustrated, it’s never directed at you. In fact, he’s overwhelmingly gentle when he handles you and surprisingly respectful. Just,,, please forget and forgive that first day he met you, when he’d been so desperate for a Queen he’d dragged you back to the hive and knocked you up with a clutch. >_< it was all purely for survival!

Regarding the Iskall Situation...
I've received a lot of asks wondering about what my take is on it, and since I'd prefer to have it all taken care of in one swoop so we don't have to continue to focus on it, here's my stance on the subject.
A: Yes, I have seen the credible evidence from Kasszki, I read the doc they posted, and I feel awful for them and the other victims that they had to deal with this. I'm glad to hear that the Hermits and others were supportive of them and helped them handle this situation in as professional a manner as possible. I have also seen the credible information from False that Stress left for her own separate reasons.
B: I strongly denounce Iskall's behavior, and I have absolutely zero intention of supporting him as a creator ever again.
C: Please don't pester the creators or the victims. I said it in my initial response to this situation before we knew what had happened, but my opinion remains the same here. Any information we get from the Hermits is a privilege, not a right. Hermitcraft and it's associated fandoms are well known for being healthy, good spaces, and I'm proud to be a member of this community. Now our money is where our mouths are. Please don't feed into the rumor mill, please continue to support the Hermits as you always would and don't pry or demand more details from them. This is a very difficult situation for all of us, and I'm certain it's even worse for all of them. Please keep in mind the Hermits are all grown adults, many of them had professional careers before they joined Hermitcraft, and they are handling this in as professional a manner as they are able. I applaud them for that. As their fans, we need to do the same.
What are my plans for Iskall and Stress in TTSBC?
Understandably, I've received several asks about what I plan to do about Iskall and Stress's characters in TTSBC. I've answered them individually, but I just want to put this here as a one-stop spot for what my stance is so it's clear.
I've always been a 'character not content creator' author. My characters are just that, characters. Does that mean I can completely remove them from the creators upon which they are based? No, of course not. That's not how this works, either. So here's my plan moving forward.
The two stories that heavily feature Iskall in TTSBC, "Run with It' and "Carry me Home Tonight" will remain up. They are timestamped with their dates of posting which was long before any of this came out, and again, they are very clearly meant to be characters, not the creators.
Iskall will be removed from the TTSBC: Wiki, and I will not be writing any new content for his character.
Does that affect the plot of TTSBC? Yes, it does. I'm not going to pretend it doesn't, and those of you who have followed the series at length can likely see where the issues arise...but I'm an author, and I can pivot. I also have an awesome little team behind me of @silver-sunray, @boo-the-ahh, and @khoirkid who are helping me to make sure TTSBC carries on smoothly despite this unforeseen struggle.
Stress will not be removed from the TTSBC: Wiki. As I mentioned in an ask earlier, her role in the story is very minor, and I hadn't planned for her to have any other pieces to herself outside of Hermit-a-Day May anyway...so aside from specific instances where it might be necessary to mention her, she will not be making any more major appearances. This is mainly because I'm a Hermit/Traffic/Empires writer, and I plan to stick to that notion unless future events cause me to pivot otherwise.
Lastly, I would appreciate if we could avoid anymore asks about the situation. If there are any further updates I'm sure I'll find that out on my own, I'm very active in this fandom and I see things pretty quickly when they spread, so if any new things related to this situation spring up, while I greatly appreciate your concern for me and my work, please don't send it to my inbox or in DM.
I'm very saddened by this, as I'm sure many of you are. Hermitcraft and it's associated fandoms have been my safe space for many years, through some of the hardest moments of my life, and with the mess that MCYT has proven itself to be at times, it felt like we were untouchable here. But like Doc said, the Hermits are good, and they are strong. And as their fans and supporters, we need to be the same.
Be good, be strong, and let's make sure our lovely community continues to be the positive space it always has been.

═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════
No one is ever ready for death. No matter how prepared one thinks they are, it still catches everyone off guard. But while you can prepare for the death of a loved one or a pet, no one really tells you how to prepare with your own demise.
You were now faced with this as you stared at your corpse, collapsed and crumpled on the floor of your living room. You didn’t even know what happened. One minute you were sitting there watching television and then you got up and then it all went black and you came to like this, standing there, staring at your body.
“What the fuck, man?”
You walked over, kneeling beside your body and reached out to touch it.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” a voice said from behind you, causing you to jump and turn quickly to see a man standing behind you. He wore a plain black suit, a gray waistcoat over a white button up shirt and a black tie. He had light colored blondish hair with bangs swept back to show his forehead. His eyes were a piercing gray color and he wore a stoic expression.
“Wh-who are you?” you asked, your voice soft as you stared at him. You watched as he tilted his head, giving you a quizzical stare. “I’m Yeosang,” he said simply. “Okay, Yeosang,” you said as you slowly stood up straight. “What are you doing in my apartment?” Yeosang narrowed his steely eyes before responding. “You’re dead,” he stated.
Rolling your eyes you scoffed. “Well, no shit, Sherlock,” you snapped. “What does my being dead have to do with you being here?” Yeosang stuck his hands in his pockets as he stared back at you. “Because it’s my job,” he answered. ‘Job?’ you wondered to yourself. ‘What job?’
“What do you mean by job?” you asked, voicing the question that plagued your thoughts. Yeosang stared at you silently for a moment before he finally spoke. “My job is to escort the dead to the afterlife,” he explained. “You’ve passed and now it’s time to ferry your soul to the afterlife.”
“I’m a reaper.”
Your eyes widened as he spoke. He took a few steps forward, putting him only a couple paces away, he removed his hands from his pockets, holding one of them out, palm facing up. You watched as a dark ball of mist appeared, starting to swirl slowly. It gained momentum, swirling faster and faster, the center becoming more and more dense. A small bolt of electricity crackled and just like that a scythe appeared. He caught it with one hand, grabbing the lower part of the handle with the other and held it firmly.
“Whoa,” you said, eyeing the sharp, pointed end of the curved blade. “That’s a pretty big sickle you got there. What’re you gonna do with it?” you said softly as he approached you. “It’s a scythe,” he corrected you. “And I’m going to kill you.”
You stared at him, holding his gaze for a moment. “Buddy,” you started, glancing down at the scythe. “I hate to break it to you, but I’m already dead.” Yeosang glanced down at the body on the floor and back to your soul. “I know that,” he said, sounding equal parts confused. “Then what do you mean kill me?” Yeosang stood back up, moving the scythe to rest the bottom of the staff on the floor.
“When you die,” he said, gesturing at your body lying on the floor. “You get assigned a reaper,” he continued. “And that reaper comes to take your soul to pass on. Most of the time, souls have unfinished business, this is how you get ghosts.”
You stared blankly at him as explained. “You have no unfinished business,” he added. “You are completely ready to pass on.” Your brows furrowed. “No the fuck I’m not,” you retorted. “I didn’t even want to die. I simply got up from the couch. How the hell did that kill me?” you asked incredulously as you gestured at your body.
Yeosang walked over, passing you to slowly kneel down, inspecting your corpse. “Aneurysm,” he said softly. He looked up at you. “A blood vessel in your brain ruptured. It’s usually preventable,” he continued as he got up. “But if it ruptures, only immediate medical treatment can save you,” he added, walking towards you, placing a hand on your shoulder. “You’ve been dead for too long.”
You looked down at his hand on your shoulder, surprised you could even feel anything. “You’re touching me,” you whispered. He glanced at his hand and then pulled it away. “My apologies,” he said. “It was meant to be reassuring.” He started to walk back to the spot he’d been standing before but you grabbed his hand, catching him off guard. “How am I touching you?” you asked, looking up from his hand to his eyes.
“Because we’re the same,” he answered, sounding surprised. “We’re both specters.” You glanced back at your body. “Is there no chance of pleading for my life with you?” you asked, turning back to look at him. “Well,” he started, pulling his hand from your grasp and running his fingers through his hair.
“Yes,” he replied. “Technically you could be returned to life,” he added. “Even with the ruptured aneurysm?” you asked. Yeosang shrugged. “By restoring life to you, it would reverse the rupture but the aneurysm would still be there.” You glanced at your body then around your apartment. “So if I return to life, will I forget all this?” you asked, turning to look at him once more.
He shrugged. “Maybe?” he said, sounding uncertain. “I’ve never restored someone to life before,” he replied. “I just know it’s possible. But I can’t just go around reversing death and granting people more time. You have to make a bargain,” he added. “A bargain?” you asked, perking up.
“Yes,” he answered. “What kind of bargain?” Yeosang hesitated. “I uh… don’t know. I’ve never done it before. Do you have any reason why you absolutely cannot pass on?” He stared at you blankly as he waited for your answer. Did you have anything holding you back? You had no children, no pets, no one relied on you to care for them. All you knew was that you weren’t ready. Wasn’t that reason enough?
You looked back at him. “I…” you trailed off, voice breaking before clearing your throat and trying again. “I’ve barely even lived,” you started softly. “I’ve never even left the country. I’m… not ready to go.” Yeosang’s stoic expression softened at the sound of your wavering voice. He wasn’t supposed to do this. He wasn’t supposed to give second chances but there was something in your voice and he couldn’t help but feel a little bad for you.
“Alright,” he said, snapping his fingers. You jumped slightly in shock when the scythe in his hands disappeared in a black mist that quickly dissipated. “If you can convince me, I will give you a second chance at life.” The moment the words left his lips, a look of pure joy came over your face. “Oh, really?” you exclaimed. Yeosang nodded before holding up a hand. “But you have to convince me.”
“Not a problem,” you said, moving to stand in front of him.
Yeosang watched as you lowered yourself to your knees. He’d seen this act before. He was no stranger to people begging on their knees but what he hadn’t expected was for your hand to move up his thigh, palm resting over his crotch. His breath caught in his throat. “Wh-what are you doing?” he choked out as you started to palm over his cock.
“You said to convince you,” you answered with a shrug as you continued. Yeosang’s cheeks burned as he could feel himself starting to grow hard under your touch. “I didn’t mean…” he trailed off as your hand gently cupped his growing erection, squeezing slightly. His eyes fluttered shut, a soft gasp leaving his lips. “Have you never been touched like this before?” you asked suddenly.
He looked down to meet your gaze. There was a hint of amusement in the semi smirk you had on your face. Yeosang shook his head. “N-no,” he stammered. You looked up at him, your smile widening as you continued to stroke him over his pants. “Let me change that then,” you said softly, moving your hands up, fingers working to undo the clasp and zipper of his pants.
Yeosang let out a groan as your hand slipped into his pants, grasping his semi hard cock, pulling it free and starting to stroke him slowly. “I.. f-fuck,” he moaned, head falling back as you took the head of his cock into your mouth, tongue swirling around before pulling back with a slight popping sound. “Has anyone ever told you that you have a really pretty cock?” you asked, hand gliding over the shaft faster.
“N-no,” Yeosang gasped, unable to form a proper sentence. “Well, you do,” you whispered, giving the tip a slow lick. “Probably the best looking cock I’ve ever seen.” Yeosang’s cheeks burned, a tinge of pink to them as you took his cock back into your mouth. He groaned as the tip of his cock reached the back of your mouth, nearly crossing into your throat.
“Holy hell,” he gasped as you pulled back, his hips bucking forward to chase the feeling of your warm mouth. You chuckled as you pulled back, hand moving up to the head of his cock. “I still can’t believe you’ve never done this before,” you said softly, watching as he looked down at you through heavy lidded eyes. “I don’t have the —” he let out a hiss as you gave the tip of his cock a lick, grinning at his reaction.
“I don’t often get the chance to engage in — oh god!” he groaned loudly, head falling back as your mouth enveloped his cock once more. His hand moved to the back of your head, fingers slipping between locks of your hair. “D-don’t stop,” he gasped as your head bobbed faster, the wet sound of his cockhead hitting the back of your throat.
You knew he was close when you felt his cock twitch in your mouth and you quickly stopped, pulling his cock from your mouth. “As much as I’d like for you to cum in my mouth,” you started, stroking him slowly. “I think it’s only fair that you get a taste of what you’re missing,” you said softly. “What are you – yah!” Yeosang started before being tugged down to his knees. You pushed him back onto the wooden floor, quickly ridding yourself of your pants before climbing over his lap.
“On your back, sweetheart,” you said softly, pushing against his chest. He leaned back as you moved, settling over his cock. You reached down, grabbing him and lining the tip with your slit before slowly sinking down on him, letting out a moan as his cock stretched you, your cunt greedily sucking him in. Yeosang let out a guttural moan, eyes rolling to the back of his head as you settled, his cock fully inside you. “I knew it,” you said with a soft chuckle.
“Knew what?” the reaper asked, raising his head. “That your cock would feel even better inside me than it did in my hand,” you replied, leaning over to place your hands on the floor on either side of his head as you lifted your hips. His hands gripped your waist tightly as you lowered yourself back down, his cock sliding back into you, making both of you moan loudly.
“I’m going to enjoy this,” you said with a crooked grin. Yeosang looked up at you through half opened eyes, his hair starting to stick to his forehead. “I don’t care if you finish what you started,” he said, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he swallowed. “I just need you to move,” he added, trying to move your hips along, a hint of impatience in his voice.
“Do that and you can consider our deal fulfilled.”
You chuckled lightly as you leaned over to press a quick kiss to his lips. “Oh come on,” you said with a smirk. “We’re only just getting started, babe.” You lifted your hips again, sinking back down and setting a steady pace, keeping your eyes on his face as his brows knitted together, his face contorting in pleasure as your walls clenched around his cock, hugging it tightly.
Each drag of his cock had you groaning as you felt the tension begin to build in your lower belly. “F-fuck,” you cursed, your thighs starting to burn. “I need a second,” you said breathlessly. Yeosang let out an impatient noise, almost a whine as he tried to buck up into you.
“My thighs burn. Just let me have a second,” you chuckled but let out a yelp as he sat up, knocking you onto your back as he grabbed your hips and started thrusting into you harshly. Each snap of your hips had you crying out as he slammed into you repeatedly. “Fuck, shit, calm down!” you gasped as you felt your orgasm approaching rapidly. “M’gonna —”
You didn’t have time to warn him as you came, your cunt convulsing around his cock and spurring his own climax. You could feel his hot cum gush out of him, coating your walls as he pumped you full. After one final thrust, he let out a moan he’d been holding back, collapsing on top of you as you both tried to regain control of your breathing.
“So… our deal is fulfilled?” you finally panted as you stared up at the ceiling of your apartment. “Yes,” Yeosang said as he lifted his head. “On one condition,” he added, his gaze meeting yours. “You let me come visit you from time to time cause that was amazing.” A smile crossed your face as you reached up, running your fingers through his hair. “Can I fuck you when I’m back in my body?” you asked curiously. He shrugged, staring down at your lips. “No idea,” he answered.
“Only one way to find out.”

A Slight of Hand Makes Colour - Lyney x f!reader
Summary: You think Lyney hates you. He's never used his charm on you. Lynette's response? If you look behind his ear, just under the stands of his hair, the answer will magically appear. (A cute and heartwarming getting together fic that I hope will make you smile.)
Other info: fluff, cute, some hurt/comfort, some pining, family, getting together, yes I know it's "sleight of hand", 2.5k words
*****
"Does Lyney hate me?"
You sat in front of the cafe with Lynette, enjoying a late night drink, and typically you'd be enjoying the silence and scenery together. But your thoughts slipped out of your mouth before you could snatch them back, ruining the peaceful moment you were having.
"Forget what I said," you said, eyes darting back to your drink.
Lynette placed her cup down and put a new cake slice on her plate. "Why do you ask?" she said with no hint of shock on her face.
"No. It was a stupid question." You took a sip, hoping she'd drop the topic.
"I see… Have you finally begun to wonder why Lyney has never used his charm on you?" she asked.
Your drink went down your throat the wrong way and you began to cough. "How did you know?" you asked, a little embarrassed.
"I could tell from how you were eyeing him as he welcomed our newest guest," she explained.
Nothing got past Lynette. You knew better than to try to hide anything from her. You'd often wondered if her greatest talent was actually reading minds.
She was right. You had never noticed the slight difference in Lyney's behavior towards you, even though you had known the twins for a long time now. He had always treated you with care and respect, but lately, you felt ill whenever he showered others with his suave words. You used to be happy just to see him smile.
You sighed, knowing exactly why you felt this way. You just didn't want to admit it.
"I think it's the right time to tell you this," Lynette said.
"Hm?" you asked. "Tell me what?"
"There's a reason why Lyney acts differently around you," she said.
You raised your brow, but you placed your cup down anyway and to listen for her next words.
"I'll give you a hint," she said. "If you look behind his ear, just under his strands of hair, you might figure out why he treats you this way."
What? It was always hard to tell what Lynette was thinking because of the lack of emotion on her face. But even if she'd crack a joke once in a while, she wouldn't do so when you had a genuine concern.
Lynette took another sip of her cup and returned back to standby mode, drifting somewhere within the stars.
You weren't sure what to make of her comment
*****
It was four in the afternoon and the workshop needed to be cleaned before you could start any work. You took the vacuum, which Lynette fortunately didn't break yet, and removed the sawdust on the floor from this morning.
Next, you wiped down the workshop's two-way mirror, knowing Lyney would need it to test another trick today. The majority of the cleaning fell on you, which you didn't mind. You used to be a maid after all – a maid to a cold and cruel mistress. You had never expected to see the twins again after her downfall.
Lyney walked to the entrance after the doorbell had rung and greeted the lady here for a delivery. You smiled as he chatted up a storm with her, always happy to meet new people, and he even added a magic trick to top it off.
"And that concludes today's mini show," he said, returning his hat on his head. "With your lovely shirt and trousers, I hope to see your excellent style at my next performance."
Ah. Another compliment, another knot in your stomach.
At the door, Lyney received the package which reached just above his eyes when he carried it. You placed your rag down and got the other package that was left at the front door.
"Thank you, Y/n," he said with a smile.
It was a short and simple statement of appreciation, which you typically didn't mind. Yet, he didn't say, 'Thank you. Whatever would I do without you.' Nor did he say, 'You're just as reliable as always. Why, I must ensure that you never leave us!' You'd often hear these words when he talked to your co-workers.
But not with you.
You placed the package on the table beside the retrofitted vase and the room went quiet. The two of you typically didn't mind a comfortable silence, but today felt different. You went on with your work anyway, cleaning up the scraps on the work table as Lyney worked at his desk. He didn't even hum a tune as he usually did when the others were around. It was only silent with you.
You sighed, thinking you would've noticed earlier if you were as observant as Lynette. You weren't sure if the subtle difference in behavior was something you should be concerned about.
Once you were done cleaning, you peeked over Lyney's shoulder as he sketched out a mechanism he'd need for a trick. He smiled at you and pointed to the drawing, explaining to you how the system worked.
"But if I place this gear here, its axel would obstruct the door of the hidden compartment," he told you. "I'm not really sure how to solve this one."
"I see…" you said, pulling out a stool beside him. "You said the axel needs to be at least an inch long... Could you add a slot for it on the door itself?"
He placed his pencil's end on his cheek. "That could work since it's hidden anyway," he said.
He continued to alternate between thinking and drawing, often erasing his paper and even getting another sheet to redraw it. You had always admired the work he put into his shows. You enjoyed watching him passionate about his craft.
"If you look behind his ear, just under his strands of hair, you might figure out why he treats you this way," Lynette had said.
You lifted your hand up to brush his hair away from his right ear.
Lyney's pencil stopped moving and his hand was frozen in place. "W-what are you doing, Y/n?"
You were right. There was nothing there. You didn't expect anything, but you thought maybe there could've been a secret magic trick the twins set up for you. There was nothing of that sort.
And then you saw it.
"Lyney, why is your ear…"
His hand rushed to cover his ear. "I-It just turns red sometimes. That's all," he explained. "It's unfortunate that most of my tricks are done at a distance, so I don't have any plans to create tricks that involve me turning red."
"What are you even talking about–"
His hand… He was tapping his finger and counting down from five. Lyney would only do this to activate his 'performance mode', when he needed to calm his nerves.
"Lyney, is there something wrong–"
"Oh, would you look at the time... The sun is about to set," he said, leaving his chair.
"Lyney, wait!"
Crash!
The pieces from the broken vase were scattered next to your knees and under the table. Memories flooded back of your mistress's twisted scowl and piercing eyes, and you quickly bowed your head and apologized. Your breathing became shallow and your eyes didn't leave the floor.
A fan of cards appeared in front of your face.
"Now you see them, and now you…"–he pulled the cards together–"Hey, hold on a moment, why didn't the vase disappear?" Lyney said before sighing. "I guess we'll have to do it the old fashioned way."
You looked up to see Lyney's smile and outstretched hand.
"Would you like to be my assistant for today?"
You had never forgotten how you first met Lyney. Two magicians on a secret mission and your mistress and her husband had a lot to hide. And yet, Lyney had taken the time to redirect your mistress's anger and given you a hand, just like he was doing now.
You took his hand and stood to your feet, not once leaving your eyes from his.
"Now, where were… uh…" he said, breaking eye contact. He released his grip from you hand, but you held him even tighter. "You're not going to let go, are you?" he said, running his hand on the back of his neck.
"No," you said. "I'm not."
You wanted an answer. You wanted to hear it – that this man in front of you was attracted to you. A wonderful magician who won you over not only because of his magic tricks and charisma, but also because of his kindness, hard work, and love for his siblings. And yet this same person whom you admired all this time had the tips of his ears burning red at your gentle touch.
"Lyney…" you managed to say. "Do you like me?"
He sighed and laughed a little. "I guess the cat's out of the bag. There isn't a way for me to escape out of this one, is there?"
You shook your head.
He gave you a gentle smile. "Do you remember our second meeting?" he said. "When you showed up at our rendezvous point?"
Panic had covered his face when he saw you instead of Lynette, his posture revealing he wouldn't hesitate to attack you if you had harmed her in any way. You had to quickly explain how you hid Lynette in a storage room after she almost blew her cover.
"You had come up with a detailed plan that helped Lynette escape and sacrificed your own food for her as she hid. And you did all of this while you were terrified of your mistress. How could I not have fallen for you then and there?"
You had never realized that Lynette noticed you gave her your food. You would've done it for anyone, knowing what the punishment would've been if she was caught.
"Anyway, that's the story of my one-sided love. We should really fix up the vase that had fallen earlier," he said, quickly returning to the scattered pieces.
"Lyney, but…"
"Be careful now, or you might get hurt. I wouldn't want to see any tears on that beautiful face of yours–" His eyes saw the mirror behind you before he covered his face. "Um… pretend you didn't see that."
You grabbed his face and pulled it back, observing his red blush up close.
"Uh…" he said, eyes darting away. "What are you doing–"
"You know, I wondered why you never used your smooth words on me," you told him. "Why did you hide it?"
He took your hands from his face and placed them back by your sides. "Nothing good would come out of it," he said with a sigh. "Especially with my association with the Fatui."
"And what if I want to take the risk?" you said, still clinging onto his hand.
"What?"
"You've always meant a lot to me Lyney, even before my feelings turned romantic," you told him. "I've taken risks for you before. And I'm willing to do it again."
He lifted his other hand to fix a strand of hair on your head, gently pushing it back and getting a better look at your face. "You shouldn't do that to yourself, Y/n. You deserve more than that."
"We can work together," you said. "Just like we always have."
He pulled his hand out of your grip. "I… I can't," he told you. "I can't do it. How…" His voice wavered as he turned away from you. "How can I take care of you too?"
A door clicked open and you turned to look behind you. Lynette had walked into the workshop from the other room.
"Oh…" Lyney looked at her with a nervous smile. "Did you see all of that?"
Lynette pointed to the two-way mirror. You wouldn't be surprised if she heard the whole conversation.
"Lyney," she said. "Do you remember when we jumped off the cliff, and you shielded my fall before going unconscious?"
"What?" he said, turning towards her. "How could I forget? That was the day you received your vision."
Lynette placed her hand on her chest. "You've taken care of me so much for as long as I could remember," she said. "But I love you too and care dearly for Y/n as well. So if any issues arise because of your relationship with her, let me help. I'll protect you."
"I…" Lyney lowered his eyes.
"I'll be alright, because as always…" she began.
"... Lynette is by my side," Lyney finished. Yet his shoulders sagged. "I… I don't know Lynette. What if something goes horribly wrong? I don't want Y/n to take the fall too."
"Don't worry," she told him, shaking her head. "I've already gotten some ideas to get you two out of any sticky situation. Keep it a secret as long as possible and I'll prepare for any contingency plans for whatever comes up."
"I'm still not so sure…" he said.
"Both of you are also discreet and know how to keep secrets," she continued. "The rest of the family would be excited and 'Father' would be fine with it as long as she doesn't hinder any missions. We both know that won't be a problem."
You stared at Lynette, amazed she thought all of this through. She really wanted this to work out, wanted us to work out.
Lyney placed his hand on his chin and thought for a long while. Both you and Lynette gave him a chance to think and didn't mind the silence he needed.
"So what's your plan?" he finally asked.
"For now, the biggest issue is that Lyney needs to figure out how to stop blushing." Lynette turned to you. "I figured that giving you the hint would get Lyney the help he needed with that."
"You gave her a hint?" exclaimed Lyney. "About my blushing? Lynette… I told you to keep it a secret."
"It was going to show sooner or later," she said. "Better here in the workshop than in public."
"Oh Lynette…" Lyney whined. "I can't believe you were the one who started this."
The tips of your mouth tugged back into a grin, seeing Lyney's arms relax a little. "So is that all he needs to do?" you asked. "Just stop blushing?"
"It's not that easy," Lyney said, a bit embarrassed. "Which was why I've been cautious with my words around you."
"Then why don't you practice now?" you said with a smile.
"What?"
"Practice flirting me until you can stop going red."
"I… uh…"
"What? Is the great magician who's a master at winning hearts actually at a loss for words?" you teased.
"I can't help it. You leave me breathless," he whined, sounding more like a complaint than a flirty remark. Yet his face turned red once again. He looked up at the two way mirror behind you and covered his face with both hands. "Okay, I need help," he said through his fingers.
"Keep practicing on me," you said with a smile.
"Can't we start tomorrow?"
"Nope. You need to make up for all the times I got jealous."
"You got jealous?"
You giggled as you scooped up his hand. "Of course I did. I just wish Lynette had given me the hint earlier."
