hello elle!! i saw you asking for pregnant reader/ dad marauders and i was thinking maybe one about one of them reading about baby’s and music and they’re all discussing what kind of music they wanna play if they want classical or baby music and tiny baby who cannot care any less just starts crawling towards the vinyls and picks something like bowie or queen?? i can imagine sirius losing his mind about it, i just know it would be funny!! i love the ones you’ve made so far i’m obsessed, you’re so talented <3
aaah so cute! thanks for the request!!! <3
dad!marauders x mum!reader who try to musicify their child [850 words]
CW: kid fic, written as fem!reader but no gender is specified - Remus calls you dove, one slightly dirty joke if you want it to be, fluff [I tried to avoid naming their kid for this one but it didn't feel right. I know I like to have Sirius' daughter's name to be 'Aurora' but idk what to do with poly fics yet]
You’d long since given up on trying to spare your child from their father’s nonsense. You have a feeling that Remus had too, though he couldn’t always help but stoke the coals of nonsense where he saw fit.
“I think it’s fine she’s not said her first word yet!” Sirius commented from the floor, sitting cross legged with his arms held aloft should he need to catch your daughter if her chubby little legs gave out on her. “Some say that if it takes them a long time to start speaking, then they’ll just start speaking in full sentences.”
“Yeah?” Remus commented sceptically as he sifted through the mail. “Who’s they?”
“The books! The baby books!”
“The baby books?” Remus deadpanned, shooting you wink to let you know he was taking the piss.
“Yes! That’s why we need to start her on music now.” Sirius proclaimed, earning him a scoff from James who was sitting on the edge of the coffee table, also supervising your toddlers toddling.
“Oh? We need to start her on music now? But when I wanted to start her on music back-”
“You didn’t want to start her on music, Jamie.” Sirius scolded. “You wanted to start her on ABBA.”
“You take that back.” James demanded, pointing a severe finger at Sirius.
“Okay, okay.” Remus commented with his hands up placatingly. “Let’s all just take it easy, alright? There’s no need for this to escalate.”
Sirius and James stared each other down a moment longer before they relented.
“But we should probably get her started on Beethoven or Motzart.” Remus added as he disappeared into the kitchen, earning him ‘oi’s of protest from his two most theatrical partners.
“You’re trying to make my daughter boring.” Sirius accused.
“No.” Remus argued as he returned with a frozen teether for said daughter, moving to sit on the couch next to the chair you were situated in. “I’m trying to make our daughter intelligent.”
“Y/N.” James whined then, causing you to look up from the book you were only pretending to read. “Moony’s trying to turn our daughter into a swot.”
“Remus.” You drawled in your most bored tone.
Remus played the part of a beat down suburban father. “Yes dear?”
“Stop trying to give our daughter a fighting chance in McGonagall’s advanced transfiguration course.”
“Yes dear.”
“Thank you.” Sirius professed, smiling greatly at the child when she gurgled something around the teether. “Is that right, sweet girl? That almost sounded like the Arabic in the bridge of Bohemian Rhapsody!”
“No,” James argued, “that sounded like the opening notes of Super Trouper.”
“It sounded like the poor thing is cutting another tooth.” You countered as you held your arms open, earning you a slobbery smile around the teether she refused to spit out, watching as she took two unstable steps towards you before falling onto her bum.
“Our little lovie won’t let that slow her down though, will she?” James cheered, earning him a squeal from his daughter as she took off crawling in the opposite direction.
“What would be her first words if she started speaking in full sentences, though?” You pondered aloud as you watched her stand on her knees in front of the record collection, banging her teether against the legs of the turntable.
“Probably reminding Sirius to ‘use a sodding coaster’.” James chuckled.
“Or the common conciliatory ‘okay, moons’.” Remus snorted.
“No! It should absolutely be ‘I solemnly swear I am up to no good’!” Sirius interjected.
“That’s kind of a mouthful for a wee babe.” Remus considered.
“You’re kind of a mouthful.” Sirius muttered.
“What about ‘mischief managed’?” You offered then, causing all three boys to sigh sentimentally.
“No.” Sirius decided after a moment. “Her first word will definitely be ‘dove’.”
“I agree.” James added with a nod in your direction. “That’s probably the most said word in this house.”
“That’s not true.” Remus argued; his cheeks dusted with the faintest pink.
Any further teasing at Remus’ sake was curtailed by an excited squeal from the child who was now standing at her full height with a record in one hand and its sleeve in the other.
“No way!” Both James and Sirius chorused, though it was James in excitement and Sirius in devastation.
James all but launched himself at his daughter and scooped her up into his arms, eliciting even more delighted squealing as he placed the record of her choosing on the turntable and hit play.
And what started playing from your well-used record player but Side Two of ABBA’s Greatest Hits Vol. 2.
“You can dance! You can jive! Having the time of your life; ooooh!” James sang horribly out of tune to his daughter's delight and Sirius’ chagrin as you and Remus shared a look.
“She’s not going to stand a chance in advanced transfiguration, is she?”
“Perhaps not,” you offered as you watched James sing loudly at Sirius who beamed up at James and their daughter from his place on the floor, forgoing any act of irritation as he sang and bobbed along for your baby's sake, “but at least she’ll know how to dance.”

Agreed! And personally when I say he should mess up, he should mess up greatly. This is probably because I'm starved for representation of abuse that doesn't portraits abusers as monsters evidently evil and full of ill intent, but I'm totally down for abusive Bruce Wayne. Yeah, sure, have the literal Batman berate and psychologically abuse his kids, neglect to address super important stuff in their background only for it to blow up in your face when they're confronted with it on the field, I'm even down for him to hurt his kids! As long as the narrative doesn't agree with it.
The thing is, with the narrative (and some takes from some very hardcore fans) is "this isn't actually abuse because you're missing key context". And then you look up and the context can be super complicated, with a whole lot of intense stuff going on, and it can be a very good explanation for what is happening, and it is still abuse. I think the issue is with the portrayal we usually have of it we see "abusive" as a personality trait, something really bad people do. It's safe, and comfortable, and it allows us to feel comfortable in our knowledge that because we're trying our best, we couldn't possibly accidentally become abusive. And on that ground, it's perfectly valid to refuse your childhood hero being some terrible monster who hits his kids! But the thing is, abuse isn't a personality trait, it's an action, and actions are extremely context dependent. If you're in an extremely high emotional situation, and trying to handle three different crises at once, and your child is being intrusive while you just need some space and you're mental ill and having an episode and you hit your child -that is still physical abuse. (And yeah, you can also abuse your adult children). And that means you have to acknowledge that it was abuse and it hurt them and you shouldn't have done it. What that doesn't mean is you have to define yourself as a horrible person and a failed parent.
The danger resides in two complementary courses of thinking that follow from these ideas :
1. abusers are awful and terrible. + i hurt my child, doing something that follows usual definitions of child abuse. + I know that there was a lot of context going on and I feel like it's not fair to define myself just based on that action while ignoring the context = I don't fit my conception of an abusive person because of the context = the context means that I wasn't abusive = the context justifies taking actions that would be usually characterized as abusive => chronicization of abuse.
2. abusers are awful and terrible. + my parent hurt me doing something that follows usual definitions of child abuse + I know that there was a lot of context going on and I feel like it's not fair to define my parent, whomst I love and consider good, just based on that action while ignoring the context = they don't fit my characterization of abusive parents because of the context = the context means they weren't abusive = the context justifies actions that would otherwise be characterized as abusive = I wasn't actually abused = child doesn't speak up /avoids potential help/remains in the unsafe situation.
These are called justificative thoughts! And of course, we get similar thoughts in bystanders who know there's a lot of context going on, know the abuser personally etc. (They also work with intimate partner violence and even murder!) Examples include the all time famous "but he loves me!", "it's not what it looks like, she was only trying to keep me safe", "but what if I'm not stern enough and he grows up and become a criminal? He'll get hurt worse in prison, I'm protecting him!" "He can't possibly be an abuser, he's so kind! He was so sweet when he supported me after my mother died!"
The thing with the "you know I'm only doing this to protect you" line is we often know it as a very vicious manipulation technique. But it's not always the case! It's not necessarily a lie. Punitive abuse isn't (necessarily) practiced for the pleasure of hurting the child, it's a parent trying to raise their child and believing that this is the best way to teach them. That's why it's so important to acknowledge that good intentions in abuse exist and they don't justify it! Whether or not someone is lying to you, manipulating you or not when telling you this isn't what matters most: it's that right now, they feel hurting you is an acceptable way to get to that result, and it's still abusive, and you don't have to accept it just because they mean well.
So yeah, I'm pissed off when dc does exactly that, brushes Bruce being abusive aside and justifies it time and time again instead of addressing the abuse. I think the reason I personally want abusive Batman rather than a huge retcon is that a hero, someone who does so much good and tries and fights so hard to protect what he loves, someone like that failing so bad at parenting and then learning and becoming better, would have been revolutionary growing up. Still would be today, honestly. We need to humanize abuse, because we're gonna feel empathy towards abusers whether we like it or not and we have to choose if we avoid the discomfort it causes by using that empathy to justify not acknowledging the abuse, or treat abusers as human people that are capable of learning, that are sensitive to context (internal and external) and that can be, on many other fronts, perfectly good people. Instead, dc feeds us heaps of justificative thoughts like it's their personal mission because THEY have the same thoughts and don't want to contend with batman being "a dirty evil abuser" but they also love their edginess and shock value too much to stop writing conflict the only way they know how. And like, I know they're not gonna address it the way I want them to but then at least stop doing it- straight up stop portraying batman as abusive and justifying past abusive actions - and bury it under enough new, better batman/batfam stories that we can put this behind us as some kind of "edgy batman dark age". At this point that's all I'm asking, my expectations are so low but come on. I'm so tired.
The thing is that DC’s consistent choice to have Jason Todd blame himself for his own murder comes across less as maturity (the intent) and more like his self-esteem is so far down the toilet it’s been filtered through the Gotham water treatment facility and is currently being sprayed over Wayne Manor’s lawn.

love languages ࿐ ࿔*:・゚
hp boys x reader (harry potter, ron weasley, fred weasley, draco malfoy, cedric diggory, remus lupin, sirius black, james potter, tom riddle) backtrack: inspiration: my post for pjo (here) that has the same concept
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
harry potter
giving: acts of service
harry always fights to protect those he loves, lest we forget the battle in the department of mysteries to “save” sirius, and even those he could not care less about (ahem draco). he’s self sacrificing, literally walking to his own death in the last book to save everyone else. and on a day to day basis, he goes out of his way to include or be nice to everyone, especially those who don’t really have friends, like luna or neville. he’s less about grand gestures and sappy love, instead preferring to care for his loved ones in practical ways.
receiving: words of affirmation
before harry went to hogwarts and met his friends, he literally received no love. petunia, vernon, and dudley would emotionally and physically abuse him. for that reason, I think harry would really appreciate someone praising him or just simply saying an “I appreciate you” or even “I love you”. also for that reason, I think physical touch might be a receiving love language for harry too.
ron weasley
giving: acts of service
oh gosh here we go, I already know there’s going to be so many “acts of service” guys on here. ron’s one of the most loyal people in the series, he’s always there for his friends and he is super selfless and protective of them. curse the movies for taking away his moment where he stands up on a broken leg to protect harry from a literal serial killer (well not really, but they didn’t know it at the time). he’s not the most, uh, articulate should we say, but he always helps his friends out.
receiving: words of affirmation
growing up in a family as big as his, ron got cast aside a lot. I mean, his literal deepest desire was to be noticed by others and not be overshadowed. and deep down he definitely knew that his family loved him, it was just kind of hard to see sometimes since his parents’ and siblings’ attention was always so divided. (side note, as an only child I could not imagine being in a family of ron’s size; one of my best friends has two sisters and she’s one of the nicest people I know, and I definitely think there’s a correlation) so if someone were to finally notice him and genuinely love him for who he is and tell him that, it would make him so happy. finally, he’s enough as he is. finally, he feels like someone loves him.
fred weasley
giving: quality time
quality time and acts of service are the big ones for fred. he’s willing to put himself into dangerous situations during the war (rip fred weasley, you deserved better) and the battle of seven potters. besides that, he thrives on bringing people together and making connections. he’s super friendly to everyone, a classic jokester, and he shows his love through the time he spends around people, especially george. they were always together. it hurts that they can't be anymore.
receiving: quality time
fred spent like all of his time with george when they were first starting weasleys’ wizard wheezes. granted, that was because starting a business takes a lot of time and effort, but it shows how fred is willing to spend time focusing on his passions. that led me to think he’d find it super important to spend time with his loved ones, and he would want his partner to spend a lot of time with him too. he uses humor as a defense mechanism and a coping mechanism, but deep down he knows that the war is actually dangerous and will have real consequences, such as bill getting mauled or george losing an ear. (or, you know, FRED LOSING HIS LIFE.) so he treasures every little moment with his loved ones.
draco malfoy
giving: acts of service
thinking about this was actually really hard. draco’s such a cold person, and he’s never shown love; all his selfless actions can be chalked up to fear and having no choice. so I had to look at when and why he married astoria. and this meant dipping into the cursed child, which I’ve never read fully but have read enough to be able to say I hate it and I don’t accept it. he truly did love astoria, even when his relationship with his parents suffered because of it. he became a better person because of astoria--miss  girl really said “I can fix him”. he even went so far as to disregard his father’s wishes when he wanted to let the malfoy line die with him. so I think when he really does find someone he loves, draco can be a pretty selfless person.
receiving: words of affirmation
gosh, just how much do people suck up to him? he was treated like a king in his early hogwarts years, and he loved it. I think the deeper reason is that he grew up without a ton of verbal affection from his family, so that’s something he craves from other places--a partner, or peers. the first time he hears an “I love you”, he’d be absolutely shocked and maybe turn cold or shut down. after some time and patience from both of you, he’d slowly begin to accept praise or loving words. if he’s feeling brave, he may even reciprocate them. only when it’s in the middle of the night and he’s pretty sure you’re asleep, though.
cedric diggory
giving: quality time
cedric spent a lot of time with cho when they were together; they would always go on dates and spend a lot of time together in between classes. it shows how much he values spending time with his loved ones. another giving love language of his is definitely quality time, because cedric is 100% a giver. he tipped harry off about the golden egg. he wanted harry to take the cup when they were in the maze. he’s just such a nice guy.
receiving: physical touch
this is for two reasons. one because I want it to be, and two because did you see his face when rita skeeter ruffled his hair in the movie? the guy was not having it, but I bet if the right person did it he’d be all blushy and smiley. also when harry went to the courtyard to tell him about the dragons, he was literally laying in his friend’s lap. and I can’t remember correctly, but wasn’t it said that he and cho would constantly hold hands? yeah. enough said.
remus lupin
giving: acts of service
remus does so much for others. he was one of the best defense against the dark arts professors for a reason. and even if his competition wasn’t so poor, I’m sure he would’ve been just as popular. he’s a natural mentor and caregiver, always there for others and sometimes neglecting his own needs because of it. he engages with his students on a personal level, especially harry, and he is always willing to put himself in danger for others, as seen in the battle of seven potters and the battle of hogwarts.
receiving: words of affirmation
this and quality time. for quality time, he spent a lot of time with his friends in school, and he spent a lot of time with harry when he was the datda professor. this time really helped grow his relationships and helped him feel close to his newfound family. as for words of affirmation, I think it’s obvious; as a kid, he never really had friends, and as a result he secretly yearns for encouragement and emotional support. kind words and whispered promises that everything will be okay. that is how remus lupin feels loved.
sirius black
giving: quality time
sirius spent so much time with his friends when he was young. he had a really rocky relationship with his family, so he gave all of his love to his friends. he and james were practically inseparable, they had such a nice connection. on top of that, after barely any human interaction for twelve whole years in azkaban, he treasures every single moment he has with his loved ones. it’s like every time he and his partner are together, he looks at them and can hardly believe this is real. but it is real. he’s out of azkaban, he’s free, and he has such an amazing partner to spend the rest of his life with. that’s decades! (I can’t with sirius’s death, I--no. he did not die.)
receiving: words of affirmation
sirius spent his childhood and adult life being rejected and ridiculed. that’s got to hurt, especially when he was literally in azkaban for something he didn’t do. he was so deprived of love and general human interaction for twelve years that I imagine he’d initially be kind of awkward or even scared when his partner first shows him love through praise or verbal affection. after a while though, he’d warm up and hopefully show that youthful, happy side of him again. also, he’d probably be big on quality time, since he got none of it at all during his azkaban years.
james potter
giving: words of affirmation
ah, finally someone who’s not acts of service or quality time! at this point I think maybe it’s just me. james is teasing and playful with his words; he’s very vocal about his affection and appreciation for his friends and loved ones. he did, after all, ask lily out pretty much every time he saw her. not at all like remus, who is a love letters and secret admirer kind of guy.
receiving: words of affirmation
james loved hearing praise and support. especially when he was in school. fuel his ego. that’s it.
tom riddle
giving: words of affirmation
I don’t think voldemort could physically feel love. I sometimes wonder if tom riddle and voldemort were different people, and honestly that’s a can of worms I don’t want to get into right now. I believe there’s some sort of theory that he can’t feel love because he was conceived while his dad was under a love potion? I have no idea. the important thing is that we all know how good tom riddle was at manipulating people. flattery gets you nowhere, they say, well clearly not if you’re tom marvolo riddle, because flattery got him everywhere. so he would use words to flatter people and show his admiration or appreciation of them, but was any of it actually real? I doubt it.
receiving: words of affirmation
honestly kind of the same deal with draco, but he's a lot worse. he wants to be treated like a king--scratch that, he wants to be treated like a god. he craves affirmation for his greatness and abilities. all his followers praise him endlessly, calling him “my lord” and sucking up to him. he also wanted his ideologies to be affirmed and supported by others. let’s face it, words of affirmation were just another way for him to prove to himself that he’s the greatest.

just a heads up guys, I'm so tired as I'm writing this so it was unedited

Baby steps:
Tumblr media
Jake lockley x reader
————————————————————————
The dim lighting of the small bar near Jake’s apartment cast a warm glow over your table, highlighting the amused glint in Jake’s eyes. He sat across from you, looking as relaxed as you’d ever seen him, his legs stretched out and his fingers absentmindedly tapping the edge of his glass.
“You know, Jake,” you began, leaning in with a smirk, “I don’t know how you manage to always get us into the most ridiculous situations.”
Jake shrugged, his mouth twisting into a playful grin. “What can I say? I like to keep things interesting.”
You chuckled, rolling your eyes. “Oh, ‘interesting’ is one way to put it. Like that time you ‘accidentally’ got us locked in the museum after hours?”
“Hey, that was Steven’s fault,” he shot back, crossing his arms. “The guy’s got a soft spot for ancient artifacts.”
The two of you laughed, comfortable in each other’s company, sharing stories and memories over a few too many drinks. The conversation drifted, easing into silence as you watched him, feeling the warmth in your chest that you’d started to ignore. The man could drive you absolutely insane, but somehow, he also managed to make you feel safe. Even if “safe” in Jake’s world meant dodging more than a few questionable situations.
Later that night, in his apartment, things escalated in that familiar, magnetic way they always did with Jake. Every touch, every whispered word left you feeling both exhilarated and comforted. He was rough around the edges, but when it came to you, he had a tenderness that could melt even the thickest ice. And tonight, he held you with a kind of intensity that made you forget everything else.
A few weeks later, the nausea hit. You found yourself standing in the bathroom, gripping the sink, staring in disbelief at the little plus sign on the pregnancy test. Your heart raced, the implications sinking in with every beat. You recalled a late-night conversation with Jake, a time when he had let slip that he didn’t see himself as a father, especially with his dangerous lifestyle. He’d said he didn’t want to bring a child into his messy world.
Now, the reality of your situation loomed like a dark cloud. What if he didn’t want this? What if he left, unable to cope with the thought of a family? The idea of raising a child alone made you shiver.
The following evening, Jake noticed something was off. “Hey,” he said, touching your shoulder. “You’ve been real quiet. What’s goin’ on?”
You hesitated, your gaze fixed on the floor. “Jake… we need to talk.”
He tilted his head, concern creasing his brow. “About what?”
You took a deep breath, unable to meet his gaze. “I’m… pregnant.”
There was a long silence. You held your breath, waiting for his reaction. Finally, he spoke, his voice low. “You’re serious?”
You nodded, still avoiding his eyes, afraid of what you might see there.
Then, to your surprise, Jake let out a deep sigh, running a hand through his hair. He looked at you for a long moment before pulling you into a hug. “And you think I’d leave?” he murmured against your shoulder.
“I don’t know,” you whispered, fighting back tears. “You said you didn’t want—”
“Hey,” he cut you off gently, pulling back to look you in the eyes. “Yeah, I might’ve said that before, but that was before you. Before… this.” He gestured between you, a soft smile tugging at his lips. “You think I wouldn’t want a kid with you?”
You blinked, processing his words. “You’re… okay with this?”
Jake chuckled, his thumb tracing a gentle line along your jaw. “More than okay. If it’s with you, I want this. I want us.”
Over the next few days, Jake went into overdrive. The next time you came over to his place, you found it filled with baby supplies: diapers, a crib, soft blankets, and even a ridiculously large stuffed animal.
“Jake!” you exclaimed, taking in the sight. “Did you… did you buy out the entire store?”
He grinned, looking a bit sheepish. “Figured we should be prepared. Don’t wanna be scrambling for stuff last minute.”
You couldn’t help but laugh, feeling a surge of warmth at his unexpected enthusiasm. “You really went all out, huh?”
“Anything for you,” he murmured, pulling you close and pressing a kiss to your forehead. “And for the little one.”
Over the following months, Jake surprised you at every turn. He went with you to every appointment, asked a million questions, and made sure you had everything you could possibly need. Despite his rough edges and unpredictable nature, he became the most dependable partner you could have asked for.
One night, as he helped you settle into bed, he kissed you softly, his hand resting on your growing belly. “You know,” he whispered, his voice thick with emotion, “I never thought I’d have this. A family. A real shot at happiness.”
You reached up, caressing his cheek. “Neither did I,” you replied, a smile tugging at your lips. “But I’m glad we were both wrong.”
He chuckled, settling in beside you. “Hey, I’m rarely wrong,” he teased, pulling you close.
“Sure, keep telling yourself that,” you retorted, rolling your eyes.
He laughed, kissing you again. “Just don’t tell Marc and Steven. They’d never let me hear the end of it.

One of my favorite headcanons is the one where Danny is just completely oblivious to everything concerning and dangerous happening around him. He doesn't have a concept of safety and doesn't even treat his injuries seriously. Because why would he, it isn't going to kill him (heh).
And considering Danny, the stupid teenager that grew up in a household with absolutely no safety precautions that also doubles as a mad scientist's incredibly dangerous lab to another dimension full of unknown, possibly dangerous beings, that has dangerous chemicals and experiments just right out in the open. I think he would have no concept of safety. Like at all. Boy would walk into a house blazing with fire thinking "who's cooking?", then stroll out of still burning house thinking "what smells so good?" when it's literally his flesh burning.
Adding on to this, Being a teenage half-dead superhero being hunted by his own parents and the government means everything would be so much worse.
Oh, Skulker wants his head and pelt on his wall? Haha in your dreams skulker. The government wants to experiment and dissect his? Well, their suits are ugly and they suck. All his rogues and villains literally try to murder him (again) and they literally come from the hole to hell in their basement? Well, they should come when he doesn't have five assignments due tomorrow. His parents actively hunt and maim his alter ego and talk about destroying him during dinner? My parents love me and they would never hurt me if they knew it was me.
So basically just give me a Danny completely oblivious to the very dangerous situations he's in and the very serious and bloody injuries he receives, and that's all because a)He's very much used to constant danger throughout his life so he has no concept of safety. and b) He's a stupid fucking teenager.

Hershel is actually the only character I've ever projected my dpdr onto. Idk, it fits him really well imo. Des' PTSD gives him uncontrollable fits of anger, Layton's makes him dissociate.

Still haven't messaged my mom back. And I don't think I'm going to.
#you know how they say time makes you look on the past with nostalgia and that's why elderly people think so fondly of past decades? not me#there are moments I look back on with nostalgia sure but the overwhelming feeling of looking back on my childhood is just whatever I do#wherever I go whatever happens that will not be my life again. my memory is long I made a promise to myself I intend to keep I don't forget#support you having your grandkids if their mother is deemed unfit yes. take the older two myself if it comes to it yes. move provinces to#live with you to look after the five of them together where you would be my only adult connection and there's a language barrier and I have#no work history and I'd be between five hours and nine hours away from any other connection I have answer's an absolute fucking no. I've#seen how you are with my sister how you were with my brother. who do you think they call when they've had enough of you? do you not#remember most of the beatings I took was because I was standing between you and my brother? of course not because according to you you#never did beat me but if you think I'm not aware that would turn on me again the second I'm no longer distant and just visiting if you#think you'd find nothing to complain about because you've built up this golden child ideal of me in your head and want to forget how it was#when I was actually in your care you are very very wrong. I remember. I know that inconveniences a lot of people who want to forget#unpleasant things about themselves. me too to be honest I have memories I wish I could erase but I can't especially with regard to my#sister. I defended my brother but not her. not enough. and it's probably why I give so much to her now more than I should because it's#enabling but it is what it is I guess. I won't use my memories against anyone just for the sake of it but I absolutely fucking will#to protect myself or others. you want a redemption arc without admitting to anything? keep being patient and kind towards#your grandchildren even if you end up having to take them and if you can't do it for all five of them then accept that it's better for the#older two to be with me. that's it. those are your options: the older two are with me so you only have to look after the younger three or#you need to buckle down and learn from your past mistakes to look after the five of them and all that is *if it even comes to that* which#as things are it's not in danger of that! it was a regular fucking visit to monitor the situation that's all; they're not getting taken#literally every time she freaks out about something it's a 50/50 chance it's actually something or she's invented a completely#twisted version of events

Idk if there's enough people talking about what a gigantic energy drain Complex PTSD is. It's not just one single traumatic event, it's having lived in a traumatic situation for a long time. And in the case of child abuse, your entire formative life period. Everything is a trigger, anxiety is your default, and your brain keeps trying to keep you safe by yelling at you about everything you're doing "wrong", which will lead to pain. Your brain is a constant war zone, braced for attack, rarely relaxed, at least some part of you always hypervigilant. The stress it takes on your body is insane. It's why trauma is linked to autoimmune issues, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and, according to one study, cancer.
Physical disability leaves you even more vulnerable and less able to live up to the impossible standards of control and "correct" behaviour your brain insists on, not to mention the free gift given to all patients of chronic illness that is medical gaslighting and patient-blaming, all of which simply compounds the trauma. Reduced physical and mental health obviously leads to systemic risk factors such as inability to pursue academic and professional qualifications, poverty and financial struggle, malnutrition, becoming unhoused or bad living conditions, exacerbated medical issues and further lack of medical resources, reliance on welfare and care networks, and becoming trapped in codependent, abusive or toxic relationships. The knock-on effects are endless.
This is all to say— if you're wondering why you can't seem to do more than the bare minimum every day when you haven't been diagnosed with a physical illness, or you're "not that disabled", or you think your symptoms are "just psychosomatic" (which means your brain is under so much intolerable stress that it's started taking a chair to the windows and destroying the furniture just to get you to NOTICE AND MAKE IT STOP): the answer is that your body is actually struggling under the kind of stress that kills trained soldiers and disables them for life. So stop trying to convince yourself that you're just not trying hard enough when what you really, desperately need to get your life on track is community, care, rest and ease.

so i think all the parts of ice king’s personality & behavior that are from simon/not from evergreen are more or less “Simon With MMS” like that would track right? so in a swap au like… ice crown-betty would clearly be reminiscent of Magic Betty, just influenced by evergreen, and magic man-simon would clearly be reminiscent of Ice King, but without the stuff that comes from evergreen. yeah? theres no point to this it’s just mildly interesting.

Finally took the wheelchair for a spin and I probably should have much sooner. The biggest difference I noticed was that my legs didn't hurt. Also that having my eyeline significantly lower didn't bother me as much as I thought it might. Biggest thing was being mindful of my turn radius. And remembering that I need to use the breaks when I'm not on carpet.
Went to the art store for the first time in years. Got some ink for refilling my brush pen. I want to use it more and I didn't want to have to fuck with the refill cartridges or worry about running out of ink. Preliminary testing looks promising, but it's going to be a while before it will actually need refilling. I'm going to try and spend some more time laying some ink down in my sketchbook.

Haven't finished The Crown but might I say that the show implying via Staunch Feminist Kate Middleton that the type of stalking and media interrogation William (a man I dislike intensely but I will be fair) and by extension Harry have received since literal birth, first photo opp when they were less than 72 hours old for both, people inquiring about their sex lives when they were underage en masse, people selling photos and stories about them, their mom dying because of (sorta kinda... a lot going on there) media attention in part...
is like the SAME THING as the way women in general live under the male gaze...
is truly WILD lol

#seeing weird t //rf takes abt surrogacy is so. 😨 'you can't pay to use a woman's body!!!!' ok first of all that is. Not how it works.#like. obviously in some situations people choose to be a surrogate as a last resort which is absolutely not good#but i really really really hate this black and white mentality these people get where if it's bad sometimes it's labelled Bad#some ppl genuinely choose to be surrogates bc they enjoy the process of pregnancy & helping people achieve their dream of starting a family#'surrogacy should be illegal' do you realise how fucking insane you sound?#forcing women into surrogacy should be illegal sure. but can we like. focus on making a society where women don't feel forced into that.#rather than ruling it out and labelling it bad overall when it's so much more nuanced than that??? it's really really weird?#if a woman knows the risks of pregnancy but genuinely wants to experience it to allow someone else to have a child??#that's? their choice?#the least f*minist thing you can possibly do is say hey actually it shouldn't be allowed for women to do that w their body#like you do realise that sounds fucking crazy right#and then the whole 'they only 'enjoy' it bc they've been conditioned to think that blah blah blah GOD do you HEAR YOURSELF...#why are you acting like all women are immature children incapable of making informed decisions.#in the name of f*minism too like you must realise how patronising it is.#'she THINKS she wants it but no one wants that!!!' or maybe you just don't understand that different ppl feel differently abt stuff.#if YOU don't want to be a surrogate then don't 😭 it's no one's place to tell anyone what they want.#and for those with fertility issues etc etc who can't have their own children biologically it's such an immense kindness & blessing#to have someone willing to carry a child for you. like it's really incredible that people choose to do that#and undermining it by acting like they've been groomed into it by the patriarchy...... hello.#anyway rant over it's just such a weird take and not what i expected to see today#'just adopt' yes adoption is super important and there are so many kids who need homes but. it's also an extremely lengthy process#and rlly difficult sometimes too#& if a couple wants their own biological child that's their choice yk as long as everyone involved is ok w it ur opinion does not matter😭

oh I really liked this one but I can’t really pin down what made it stand out to me. more drama/tragedy… it feels more self-aware in a way? I like how dulled some of the emotions are portrayed.
#mm recs#recs#well good for folks who like angst with a happy ending I think#there’s the biphobic trope of a bi character being portrayed as promiscuous though in this one there’s like… a character specific reason#which might sway folks one way or the other#I also feel like different readers would have different comfort levels with the consent because it’s like#well the li is essentially coming at it from the perspective of I’m Doing Something Terrible And Imposing On Someone Who’s Kind#and the mc is more coming at it from woah! kind of a surprising development! not against it though!#uhhh I really like how the li has A Customer Service Mask but it’s not that dramatic of a shift imo#he just goes from :) to :|#and I also like how the nephew fits into the story#a lot of focus on mc’s concerns & the nephew’s insecurity kind of clashing#plus I actually think it’s interesting how li sees the nephew’s situation as an inverse of his own#and how that feeds into his internal conflict#‘his uncle took him in like how mine did and my adoptive family treated me like shit I should keep an eye on him’#-> ‘oh actually his uncle genuinely cares about him in a way mine didn’t’#-> ‘getting attention from someone who has that quality soothes some of the hurt’#-> ‘if I asked him to Choose Me that wouldn’t be fair to him and the kid and anyway if he Chose Me he wouldn’t be the kind of person I want’#I feel like some romances do jealousy/competition with a child being cared for in kind of an annoying and stupid way#but I think it works here because 1) directly acknowledging This Is Related To My Own Childhood Experiences#2) he also doesn’t want to actually compete with a child and he thinks it’s stupid#3) he’s got Hella Baggage skewing his interpretation of the situation and himself#and when I talk about dulled emotions#I like how you get a sense of a dull everpresent ache that flares up#it’s comfortable it’s familiar it’d mundane. Except Sometimes#ok I’m done#misclb#orlbs
