so back when i was teaching, one of the things i learned to look for were the "mood makers", as i liked to call them, of the classes. there were always 2 or 3 per class, and it was easy to find them in the first few days. you got those kids on your side, and it was a ripple effect with the rest of the students - they would all follow. so winning those kids over was huge when it came to how the year would play out. and from time to time, whenever the class was sort of faltering - middle of winter, of a big project, burn-out high - i would lean back in on those mood makers again to turn things around.

one particular class, when we had a big multi-month group project happening, were just... really struggling with getting their shit together lol. they were supposed to be practicing their presentations (english speaking class) and they were doing pretty much anything but, and their presentations were supposed to start the next class day. they were also PANICKING as i started giving out some feedback - which was NOT GREAT - as they were running through the lines they were supposed to be remembering. after realizing all of them needed so much extra work, i decided we needed to have a turn-around, so i invited one of the mood makers up to the front. i held out a cup to him, with two papers inside.

"one of them," i said, "says tuesday, and if you draw that, presentations go as planned. but one of them says thursday, and if you choose that one, everyone gets extra time to practice."

everyone was like OH SHIT. OKAY. THIS IS IT. and this mood maker, he was a big personality (they usually are) so i knew he'd really ham this up, and he did. we made a huge deal, with drum-rolls and everything, of him picking one out of the cup. he opened it up the paper and announced THURSDAY to a round of huge cheers. he was the class hero. everyone had TONS of motivation to work super hard on this gifted extra day, and really put the time in. their presentations were great. morale SOARED.

the plot twist was that both papers said thursday, because they all needed the extra time. my forever teacher advice: find creative ways to make things happen so that you get the buy-in from the class.

While it's different from my usual style I really loved how this came out!#Strolling back to the art scene to remind everyone I am still a lover of botanicals.#I had a blast with the symbolism for this one:#White lilium longiflorum (easter lily) for rebirth. Purple hyacinthus orientalis for sorrow and forgiveness.#Red spider lily (Lycoris radiata) for loss and death.#'Rebirth into something new' is so well done in Dungeon Meshi. She is back but she is not the same.#The last few episodes/chapters gives her this dreamy quality to her. As if she's not quite real. She's so perfect in their memories.#And as we know of dreams - no matter how sweet- they must end once we wake up.#It is so painful to lose someone twice. To see someone you loved in a dream and wake up and remember that loss again.#Dungeon Meshi being a grief allegory is important to me. I'll explain more as the story continues B'*)

Xaldin: narrative's chosen guy for disagreeing and being in a bad mood

Vexen: narrative's conflict generator (both his replica project in Days and his everything in CoM)

Zexion and Lexaeus: prey the narrative toyed with a little too much that gave the narrative some illness after being eaten (Zexion) and guy engineered to help the narrative's prey last longer (Lexaeus)

Axel and Saïx: narrative's favorite and guy doomed to be relevant forever due to his relationship to the narrative's favorite

Demyx: who fucking knows at this point. class clown

Luxord: "surprise tool to help us later" says the narrative

Marluxia and Larxene: weird things from the junk drawer that the narrative rediscovered and decided to use for an art project

Parent's Day

Ghosts didn't have a father's or mother's day as such, but they did have a day where they combined both. A day to celebrate your guardians. Humans, Yetis, Amazons or Gods, it was a quiet day to thank them for your ghost adoption.

Dan and Ellie had spent a few years under the halfa's care but at the end of the day they considered him their guardian (although Dan did it reluctantly), so when they heard about Parent's Day they panicked.

They wanted to show Danny that they really appreciated him but a mug or coupons were not enough. In the end after some brainstorming they decided to give him the closest thing to a mug that was in the Realms: Constantine's complete soul.

John Contantine was a very annoying human, they knew this because they heard Danny complain about his paperwork many times. Apparently their father had 99% of his soul but couldn't do anything until he had 100%, and what better gift than to help him get rid of the paperwork? He hated paperwork! It was perfect!

With some help from Clockwork they traveled to DC's dimension, determined to take the last of the hellblazer's soul. Dan wondered if he should steal a star from the dimension while they were there (Danny liked space didn't he?), as an extra gift.

John Constantine was in the middle of explaining the holes in reality to the Justice League when a shiver ran through his body. He had an instant bad feeling.

#dpxdc #Parent's Day #ghosts are not distinguished by gender and half of them are not human so they have a day to celebrate their guardians in general #ghosts like to adopt younger ghosts to guide them #they usually don't have children of their own #The idea of Dan and Ellie sounds weird but you have to remember that they are children #Regardless of their outward appearance #they are both young #and they only want to take away from Danny what bothers him as a gift #I like to think that Dan was “born” by combining both cores #he's not Danny but he retained most of his negative emotions and memories #dp x dc #dc x dp #Constantine will have a long day #but he asked for it after selling his soul 50 times #Dan and Ellie googled “best gift” but only mugs coupons and flowers came up #Dan doesn't know if it's possible to steal stars but he will make it possible #ghost king danny

I cannot even begin to explain the cognitive dissonance of having grown up hearing of how my family survived the holocaust, of how life is sacred above all else and any other commandment… and then watching Israel invoke both religion and the Shoa while committing such violence and invoking the very same stuff that makes me think there's little worse?

Join protests, donate, try to make sure things can't be swept under the rug. I don't know what we can do to actually stop the genocide, but we also can't stop trying?

one time i was getting drunk with classmates and a trans guy told me his deadname. i felt bad for knowing bc he was also very drunk and didnt know if sober him would want me to know so i proceeded to immediately chug like 3 more beers and blacked out, successfully wiping his deadname from my memory.

just saw someone say Rick Riordan making a TV show is just as bad as anything JKR has done. BFFR you're comparing Rick Riordan trying to make his world more inclusive, changing some parts because of money/time constraints, or just making changes cus he thinks they're needed, to JKR being a terrible person!
