Shanks x GN!reader. 921 words. Post-Loguetown.

“I gave the straw hat to Luffy but now my head looks a bit empty…” Shanks thinks to himself as he looks in the mirror. He tries to run his left hand through his hair, realizing once again that it’s gone. “Shit, I need to get used to this.” He doesn’t regret saving Luffy one bit, he’d sacrifice his arm again if he were to go back in time, but it is proving to be more and more troublesome missing an entire arm; especially his dominant one. “Can I even cut it now? It’ll take a while before I have the precision again to trim this.” So many new issues to deal with, and he’s had the hat for so long he looks weird and plain without it. ‘Maybe I should grow out my hair a bit, but taking care of it seems like a hassle.’ Despite all these ideas, he sighs. ‘I’ll think about it.’

Shanks walks outside onto the deck and notices you talking with Benn, he freezes. Right, you left Loguetown with him. You said yes and joined his crew. That thought makes him giddy and he wants to talk to you but he stops when he hears the conversation.

“So, what looks do you like in a man?” Beckman’s asking your type… Well, it’s not like the deck is strictly for you two. He slowly makes his way back to where he was, slowly hiding behind one of the masts.

“Looks, hm?” You put a hand on your chin, pondering. “I’m not too strict about what I find attractive but if I had to have a preference I do like men bigger than me.” The corner of Shanks’s mouth twitches up. Not to toot his own horn but he is taller than you. However, it quickly goes down when you continue. “Something about the way they can envelop me feels warm. A nice hug, their arms around me, it just feels very safe.” Arms. Ah.

‘They didn’t mean it like that.’ The redhead tries to tell himself, but it’s not working. Another new thing he has to deal with. He lost his arm, his dominant one. He can’t keep you as safe as before, envelop you like before. His expression darkens.

“Red hair too.” He’s snapped out of his moping. “The shade matching their personality would be nice too. A deep red for a passionate person.” Shanks thinks of his hair, he’s plenty passionate, and his hair is a deep red. “Also, maybe this is a bit unpopular, but I actually prefer men with hair on the longer side.” Long!?

“Are you hitting on me?” Beckman jokes and you laugh a little. Shanks panics, he doesn’t know how he could take care of long hair with one non-dominant arm.

“You do look handsome, so maybe I am.” The length based on their personality is nice too, for you your hair length is perfect.” He can’t listen to this. “For a more elegant man, hair to the mid back is nice.” It turns out Beckman is your type. “But, for a rouge-ish man like I mentioned it definitely has to be hair a little above or to the shoulders. Just enough to put it into a little ponytail, basically. It always looks so perfect that I have to resist the urge to stare.” Your cheeks tint at the thought and Shanks’s heart starts to quicken. He could handle hair at that length, not too hard.

“Red hair and a rogue-ish appearance. Reminds me of someone. Though he’s missing the hair length.” Beckman’s eyes glance at Shanks’s hiding spot, he’s been caught! The captain flinches and makes his escape to the back deck via speed walking. While he walks a smile forms on his face. Longer hair. He can work with that.

Shanks has been growing his hair out. Well it’s not surprising considering it would be hard to trim the way he used to with one hand, but you still didn’t expect it; especially since he’s mentioned before that anything not short would be a hassle to take care of.

“(Y/n)” You sit on the grass at an island, looking up to see your captain casting a shadow over your face. “Photosynthesizing?”

“I’m shocked you know that word.” You joke and he laughs, sitting next to you.

“I’m a real scholar.” He looks into your eyes and you smile back. Maybe you’re biased but he looks better with longer hair, your eyes keep gravitating to him. “Do I have something on my face?” He teases.

“You look handsome.” You state and his eyes widen. He didn’t expect you to just say it.

“R-Really!?” He grimaces at his stutter but your smile gets wider.

“Mhm, you look better with your hair longer like this. I like it a lot.” Shanks manages to regain his composure, smirking.

‘Wow~ Don’t fall for me too quickly.” He winks and you laugh.

“I’ll try, but if you steal my heart I’ll have no choice but to take yours. It’s only fair~”

That night Shanks looks into the mirror in his room, your words repeating in his head.

“If you steal my heart I'll have no choice but to take yours.”

His cheeks flush, what a funny thing to say when you already have it. “I’m the one trying to get one back” Shanks sighs and flops onto his bed stomach first. A moment passes.

“You look handsome.”

“I like it a lot.”

"Hehehehehehe" He giggles, rolling around on his bed.

Hello 🤗 If you're interested, may I please request headcanons for the Strawhats with a crewmate that likes to crochet, and their "comfort crochet" pattern is a manatee? So the ship slowly fills up with amigurumi manatees of various colors and sizes. Thank you, friend!

Luffy is the worst to crochet around cuz he is a person that makes it impossible to relax with and focus on a task in silence. Luffy of course catches onto your habit of comfort crochet, and when he’s really, REALLY bored, that’s about the only time he’ll sit still and watch you. Which is how you know he’s truly suffering from boredom. Beyond this, Luffy likes your little hobby and thinks your little manatees are cute!

Zoro doesn’t care too much for the hobby itself and probably pokes fun at you and calls you a granny regardless of your age or gender, (though if you really are uncomfy with the term because of gender identity he’s just gonna use gramps instead) he doesn’t actually mind your hobby or anything he’s just really terrible at bonding and connecting with people. Zoro probably yells at you as to why there’s a million manatees in his room but it’s not serious.

Sanji thinks it’s cute! He likes watching you crochet and might ask to do it with you. He doesn’t know anything about it but is more than happy to learn. In return he’ll teach you how to cook. If you’re making an excessive amount of manatees he will probably ask if you need a hug.

Usopp finds this really cute but probably teases you about it sometimes. He’s just poking fun at you though nothing serious. He’ll actually tell you he thinks your manatees are adorable and asks you to make him one, and then he keeps it by his sleeping quarters FOREVER. He takes the time to learn how to crochet on his own to impress you and give you one!

Nami thinks it’s cute, and over time watching you do it she slowly learns how to do it herself! She assumes you just really love manatees or something, so one day she just buys you a bracelet with manatees on it.

Vivi will talk to you while you crochet. She also finds this really cute and you’ve made her a lot of blue manatees. Even after separating from the crew she still has all your manatees with her, in her room.

Robin watches you crochet. You tend to spend time together by you crocheting and her reading. One day she asks you casually, “will you ever make me one?” And then just laughs affectionately to herself when she finds a purple one in her bag the next morning.

Franky wishes he could do it with you, but, he just can’t get a handle on it at all. Perhaps his hands are too big for it, but that leaves you with a lot of other questions on your mind. That being said, while Franky can be considered an “obnoxious” fellow, he is perfectly capable of being quiet and tinkering away while you crochet. He asks you to make him some all the time.

Brook asks you to make him a pink one. That being said he finds it cute. Manatees and whales are different creatures, but the dark blue manatee you made for him reminds him of Laboon, and it means a lot to him.

Jinbe loves it. It’s only natural, he is a fishman so he likes the manatees a lot, reminds him of childhood. He thinks your hobby is sweet, and often sits with you in a comfortable silence as you crochet. He didn’t know how to at first, but over time he learns with you, and he’ll crochet for you as well!

I love shipping characters who hate each other in canon.

I love shipping characters who have had exactly one (1) conversation in canon.

I love shipping characters who have never met in canon.

I love shipping characters from different pieces of media.

It starts off silly. The notion of the pairing is so weird, so unexpected and seemingly dumb that it makes me laugh a little, perk up, look into it and see if this is really a thing.

And then it becomes a joke. Haha, look at this ship I’m shipping ironically, isn’t it silly, it would obviously never work out in canon but I’m looking at it and producing content for it anyway because it’s fun.

But as time goes on, it starts filling my feed. I start thinking about it - really thinking about it. Why did someone put these characters together in the first place? How would they really interact? How did they end up together, and why would they stay together?

What started out as a joke becomes a diving-off point, an opportunity to really think about both characters. The dynamic isn’t canon, so it’s yours to shape. The dynamic isn’t canon, so now you must delve into each character on your own, figure out how you perceive and understand both of them, learn to see them in a different light. What started out as a joke encourages you to dig deeper, think harder, fall even more in love with those characters as you consider the potentials which lie outside of canon, but which ultimately trace their roots through the core of the characters themselves.

Because by their very nature, crackships and rarepairs are not based on plot, and they are not based on canon. They are so seemingly random and odd that they disrupt your typical view of these characters, making you think more deeply about them. The non-canon ships you embrace or reject can inform your perception of these characters on a deep level. They can make you cry just as easily as they make you laugh. They add so much flavor.

And they can also be really, really funny.

You ever think about how Mihawk definitely does not hear his name alot?

Like there are probably only 2 people in the entire world that consistently refer to him by name. To the rest of the world he’s just an epithet. He might as well have no real name for as little as he hears it.

He’ll hear it at introductions always preface by his epithet, he’ll see it in the bounty posters and notice it in the history books. But barely anyone will ever calm him that. Just a pink headed ghost girl and the red headed half of the most complicated situationship panning 20 years.

You ever think about how Shanks probably has a thousand and one nicknames for Mihawk he cycles through at a whim but maybe Mihawk’s favorite will always be the soft way in which Shanks calls out his given name like that’s all there is too it like there’s a Mihawk that exists all on its own. No matter the situation Shanks calls him Mihawk and he has his full attention

Simplifying Luffy's personality as "childish" does such a huge disservice to his character. During his introduction, we just see him as this goofy sheltered kid who doesn't realize how awful the world is.

Then we finally get to see his childhood and we realize that he knows first hand how fucked up the world is. He's been beaten mercilessly, abandoned, witnessed genocide, etc, all while he was just 8 years old. Despite all of that, he has managed to retain his childhood wonder.

Luffy is clearly emotionally intelligent, a strong leader, empathetic, and mature when he needs to be. He's traumatized AF and smiling through it all. He's allowed to be a lil silly.

zolu aroace positivity post!!! because if you're aroace and you celebrate the gift that is zolu, I want to share why they mean so much to me as an aroace.

what makes zolu so special to me is because first and foremost, zoro and luffy went out to the vast open seas of the world to chase after their dreams. luffy wants to be the pirate king, zoro wants to be the best swordsman. even after being recruited, even after all they went through, they never stopped having their dreams as the forefront of their characters. but it just so happens that both their dreams are intertwined with each other, the best swordsman in the world's most fitting place is by being right next to the pirate king, and the pirate king believes that he would reach his goal by having the best by his side.

the reason why I believe zoro and luffy's relationship is so strong is because by fighting for their own dreams, they also strengthen their bond with the other. zoro wants to be strong to be the best swordsman, but it's also to protect the crew and to best support luffy as he guns for the title of pirate king. luffy wants to be strong to be pirate king, but it's also to protect the crew, but also? by being strong, he proves time and time again that his crew did not make the wrong decision to follow him, that he is a Captain that deserves to obtain the one piece (i think of luffy aiming to be strong so that his crew will never have to falter about his leadership, especially after water 7).

as an aroace, this feels like the best way to showcase love and devotion and trust with each other. knowing that someone's dream becomes a part of your own, that every time you fight for yourself and you aim to be a better version of yourself, you're not only working for your own sake but for the better of you and your partner. that i come to love my partner because they understand me, and they know why i fight so hard to reach my goal. and not only that, they fight as equally hard for their own goal. together, both of our dreams ultimately help each other become the best version of ourselves.

knowing that zoro believes in luffy wholeheartedly that he fought for his dream too, enough to put his life on the line for luffy. knowing that luffy can leave his most precious family and crew to zoro because he trusts zoro wholeheartedly to win.

to me, this is how I envision love. it's about getting to know each other, understanding each other, loving each other to the point that their dreams become yours, and fighting together side by side to make that dream come true.

zoro and luffy have that in spades. imo, zoro and luffy's appeal as a relationship is that they are intertwined with each other, and they go through hell and back and fight for each other and their dreams together. it's no wonder that aroace people like me are drawn to them, their love and bond transcends just having an attraction to each other. because it's also about having this person change and inspire me to be better.
