Jess Aarons' snippy inner monologue is so funny, it reveals this petty and passive aggressive side to an otherwise earnest, clumsy, sweet kid.

Maybelle tells him "Ellie got herself a see-through blouse and mama's throwing a fit" and Jess, privately very tired of his siblings' frivolous attitude towards money, thinks good. But he tells Maybelle "That ain't nothin' to cheer about."

Leslie finally notices he's insecure around her worldly, academic, well-to-do family and confronts him about it -- "Jess. How stupid do you think I am?" Jess, privately resentful that it took his very smart friend *weeks* to pick up on this, thinks pretty stupid, sometimes. But he says "I don't think you're stupid.

Those are just the ones I remember off the top of my head!

Surely there's more woven between all the tongue-biting and quiet "yes'm"s he's grown used to coughing up.

He is such an older sibling who's clinging to childhood as it slips through his farm-calloused hands. He is both the bursting ache for adventure and the firm press of responsibility holding it in. These sassy little moments let him vent that frustration he's too polite to let loose. And those goofy doodles he loves to draw help to sublimate his existential , financial dread into humor. Something he dares not share with anyone because he's lectured about "waste -- wasted time, wasted paper, wasted ability," wasted YOUTH!

Jess feels so stuck until Leslie comes along. She flings open the door to adventure. Writing that prank note to teach bully Janice Avery a lesson. Recounting their heartbreaking bathroom sob-chat to Jess afterwards, marking that as an understandable yet unkind decision. The bridge-swing that transports them into a whole new world in the woods, dreamed up by their collective imagination. And the golden room -- the living room wall color Jess was unsure about (iirc?) until he stepped back to admire their handiwork. Such an ethereal touch to such a normal space. Transformative.

It's Jess's idea to gift the Burks a puppy -- free from a box by the road along the school bus route, and worth infinitely more than some fancy object. An eager, energetic, unpredictable friend.

I just. Look back at these moments of sass and see how much more Jess lets himself say as the story progresses. How much life Leslie, his music teacher Miss Julia Edmunds, and even Maybelle (much, much later on) give him. How much personality he was holding onto, and how high it soars once he has the right people to let it out to.

And how much it hurts to love that deep. To lose that freedom, that energy. I think of the wreath him and Leslie construct to celebrate one of their real-and/or-fictional victories. "Thy right arm hath given us the victory", Jess says, not really knowing what the words meant or where he'd heard them, but it felt right. And Leslie builds on his improv.

Drowning in grief, Jess thinks Leslie. I'm just a dumb dodo and you know it. What am I supposed to do?

Well, you mourn. You pick up the pieces. You keep going. Like Leslie did every time her windblown parents uprooted their lives to go somewhere new.

Jess learns how to love louder. He already had the love, and several great people to pour it into. But he didn't know how to get out of his head and into an admittedly standoffish world.

Leslie broke through. She shows him magic in the trees and unlikely sides to old school drama. And yet she didn't always feel so sure, either -- "She loved you, y'know," her dad whispers as he hugs Jess. "She told me once, if it weren't for you ..."

Leslie goes out on a limb and Jess cautiously steps after her. Takes her hand. Steadies her. Which lets them steady each other.

He is such a different person by the end. He holds his feelings and lets them out. He's sadder and warmer and a whole lot less scared.

Well, you just have to stand up to your fear and not let it squeeze you white. Right, Leslie?

And the Leslie in Jess's memory replies, Right.

chapter one, armin x black reader. this is a book in which the reader is a bratty girl.

“Armin, don’t forget your lunch!” His mother shouted from her bedroom, armin sighs heavily. Glancing over at the navy blue bag that sat on of the marble countertop, “I won’t!” He shouted back as he stuffed the lunchbox in his bag, “Love you minnie!” She shouts, Armin chortles before turning the lock on the door he grasped the doorknob and opened it to a certain extent, “Love you too mom!” He leaves the house and locks the door behind him.

He steps down the porch steps, looking over by the house beside his own. Seeing that familiar brunette hair standing on the porch, a smile instant went on Armin’s face.

“Eren!” He shouts.

The brunette’s head snaps up with a confused glare, his bushy eyebrows furrowed as he stares at the blurry shadow figure by his front gates.

“Your glasses!” Armin shouts through a light chuckle, seeing his face relax, he digs in his bag and pulls out his glasses.

“Arminn” He smiled walking down the steps to hug his best friend, “Good morning,” Armin responds as they pulled away.

“Good morning,” Eren smiled, “What did mama Arlert give you today?” Eren questions as they began to walk along the sidewalk side by side. Armin shoulder shrugged.

“I think i got the lasagna she cooked last night.” Eren hums, “Did you see that update?” Eren asked which caused Armin’s face to screw, “Mortal Kombat or Fortnite?” “Fortnite.” He replied, “Oh yes, I haven’t gotten the chance to update it. But i’ll update it after school and we could play together.” Eren’s hands clapped from excitement of course.

“Oh crap, wait.” Eren groaned, “What happened?” Armin questioned as his eyebrow perks up. “That project from Mr. Simmins. I haven’t started on it and I need too.” Armin’s face scrunched up, he hasn’t seen anything about Mr. Simmins posting about a project. Maybe his class just hadn’t gotten there yet.

Since it’s filled with disrespectful students.

“Do you have a partner?” Armin inquired. “Yeah,” Eren blushed, “It’s Joyce.” He whispered with a full blown red face. “Isn’t she sisters with that brat?” Armin brusquely said, Eren’s shoulder shrugs softly.

“Yeah, but I think she’s the nice one.” Armin hummed.

Finally arriving early at the school, both students walked past the glass double doors. Stepping into the crowded hallways of Bridgetown HighSchool.

Armin walks over to his locker as Eren walks to his. Which was right beside Armin’s.

Armin placed in his combination, the locker opens with a snap. He stores his bag inside keeping his phone in his pants pockets. “Dude, i’m so mad i have math first period.” Eren soughed. “I thought you liked math?” Armin spoke softly as a chuckle emits from his mouth.

“Man I do but having it first period? I would rather have it in the middle of the day.” Armin chortles at his comment, “Oh no you would not. 5th period math class sucks, I’m with the brat and her hooligans.”

Eren chuckled. “Damn, I feel bad for you. I just have one of her friends and they’re quiet.” Armin grins as he closes his locker causing it to lock, “Yeah cause they don’t have their freakin’ ring leader with them.” Armin scoffs as he held his english studies book between his armpits and his side.

“Hey, uhh armin right?” A girl with nice brunette lavish short hair said. Standing in front of Armin. “Yeah?” He answered eyeing the girl.

“I’m new to the school,” she chortles, “My name is Sasha.” She smiles as she placed out her hand for armin to shake.

He glanced over at Eren before returning the gaze back onto her hand, “Nice to meet you, Sasha.” He grins as he shook her hand.

“Nice to meet you too. Do you have any idea where the calculus class is?” She questions with her eyes squint. “Oh uhh.” Armin turned to Eren, “He’s going there now.” His emerald eyes panned over to the girl, “Oh, Uh, yes follow me.” He grinned as he began walking to his class as soon as the bell rang.

Armin sighs, sliding his hands into his pockets he trudges through the crowd of students who were trying to make it before that late bell rung. On his way to class, he saw you standing by his classroom door.

Looking all mad. Armin eyed you and than the outfit you had on.

The two piece juicy couture tracksuit. The fabric settling onto your body, framing it perfectly.

If it wasn’t for the way you acted, Armin would have most likely tried to take you out on a date. But you’re all bitchy because your father owns the school.

He walks pass you stepping into the classroom, your head perked up after your nose inhaled that familiar scent. Your eyebrows furrowed as you stepped inside the classroom, luckily this was your room or it would’ve been a different story.

browsing through the students trying to find that blond hair boy, seeing the tip of his hair peeking over a student you instantly made your way to the back.

Taking the empty seat beside him, you placed down your tote bag on the desk. Slightly slouched on the chair with one leg thrown over the next, “What do you want, Y/n.” Armin tiredly asked. “I wanna know why you didn’t do my chemistry homework,” Armin heavily exhaled leaning into his seat, “Bro, it’s your homework. Not mines, Y/n. You’ve could’ve done it yourself.” He jadedly said.

The tip of his pencil moved against his book, writing down every note Mr. Levi left on the board.

You sucked your teeth, completely ignoring his comment you pulled out the paper and slapped it onto his desk. “Do it.” You whispered.

Glancing away from him—Armin eyed you. That jet black lace front that framed your face and its beauty perfectly, the way your lips glimmered from the sun rays beaming through the large windows, your scent swallowed him whole. As if he couldn’t smell anything, but you.

And it made him mad. But he couldn’t do anything about it since your knuckle headed boyfriend who’s the caption of the football team is always not afraid to beat some geeks head in.

“F-Fine, whatever.” He stammered as he stores the paper into his folder, “I’ll do it after I do mines,” Your arms crossed on your stomach watching him from your peripheral vision, the way he was slouched forward writing down everything he saw on the white board, his glasses slipping down the bridge of his nose. He takes his pointer to push it back up.

He than sits up to make sure he wasn’t missing anything, his messy blond hair framing his cubby face perfectly. As well as his black frames and his comely blue eyes.

He had a perfectly side profile, a nice snubby nose that was slightly red at the tip. His lips that were perfectly pushed outwards. His soft jawline and his adam apple that bobbed every time he’d swallowed. Olive skin that looked so soft if you were to touch it.

You swallowed dryly, looking away with an eye roll, beginning to realized that you were staring at him for too long.

Miles looks at his friends, "Hmm?"

"What's your type?" Gwen asked, "Like what do you see yourself with?"

Pavtri nodded, "Yeah, what kind of boy or girl you like?" Hobie stood listening them, his whole body turning into a curious colors; like soft green, bright yellow and gray with magazine and newspaper prints all over with symbols of curiosity fonts, and imagery.

"Hmm, I always did like girls like Gwen; smart, funny, serious, and vulnerable like good way. Like shows her sensitive side, I guess..." Miles explains about the girls he dated being similar to his old crush, Gwen. This got Gwen blushing so hard her face turns tomato red.

"Awe, love you too, man!" She plays off her blushing as she pats harshly on her friend's back. The two did like each other at one point, but it was at the wrong time. She needed to heal herself before getting involved in a serious relationship. Miles needs to deal with his own traumas and wanted the Spider people he was close to, to gain back his trust. So, they never went for it and slowly became close friends instead of lovers. It's safer like that.

"Ow!" Miles rubs his arms feeling pain on his back being nervous.

"What about guys! You said your into guys too!" Pavtri got close to his friend's face while holding his hand, even Hobie got close to listen.

"Well... umm... never really thought about it. I guess, the same thing as Gwen- um..." His honey-brown eyes started to drift away from eye contact being flustered. "I kinda like tall guys! Like really tall."

Gwen saw Hobie being pink, then stood next to Miles with his hand measuring Miles' height against his own. Hobie is a freakin' tall dude, being six foot and four inches while Miles only six foot. This made the teenager girl giggle.

"What else?" Pavtri asked.

Miles wasn't paying attention to Hobie and Gwen assuming they were being goofy with each other. "Umm... I always saw myself being with a guy that's edgy, likes music..." Hobie did a happy pose, showing off his outfit being punk and his guitar being, "romantic." The punker pulled out a rose being the romantic type.

"Funny, smart, not afraid to be sensitive, sweet with kids!" Hobie putting on a goofy glasses with mustache, then a book by Albert Einstein and pulls out Mayday from the blue while holding her. Mayday giggles at the punker being surprised he grab her out of home from a portal!

"Kids? You want kids!"

"No, I mean... i dunno a guy that's nice with kids is a green flag for me." Miles rubs his chin unaware of Peter 616 coming out of the portal to take back his daughter from the punker and wag his finger. Mayday merely laughs agains before waving the punker goodbye. The two went back to their world. "Oh, I always saw myself being with a black man, someone Jamaican or Caribbean but I wouldn't mind an Afro Latino or African or just black." He rub his neck.

Hobie happily stood showing off his tattoo of a Jamaican and Haitian pride alongside his West African flag to represent his descendants. Gwen snickers seeing how clueless Miles is being with his type. "What else? No Indian or brown love, Miles." Pavtri pouts.

"Oh, I don't mind that! I'm down for anyone." Miles shyly said, "I do like guys like you, Pav. Like sweet, funny and always putting a positive attitude!"

"Ohh, Miles! You make me wanna date you!" Pavtri hugs him having to nuzzle his cheek, "Hehehe, if I wasn't dating my Gayatri, you'll be my bae!"

That made Hobie jealous, turning grey with newspaper labels with prints, "Do not touch! Warning!"

"Hahaha, awe Pav, you're too nice." Miles giggles, then he said, "Oh, I like guys that are kinda bad boys... like they break the rules."

Hobie turns pink again, that is him. "Oh, and he cares about social views like Black Lives Matter, Women's Rights, LGBTQ plus umm... you know people's rights, heh. I guess, that kind of guy is unrealistic, huh?"

The punker looks surprised and exaggerated his pose into a big WHAT, with hands in the air and squatting. Gwen burst out laughing seeing how this is the perfect description of Hobie Brown.

"Awe, really?" Pavtri's brown eyes glance over at Hobie looking confused and lost. "I mean, I feel like someone already exists."

"I dunno... the guys I meet always be bums, then again I haven't dated much." Miles explains, "Oh, maybe this being a stretched but a guy with a nice accent is hot, y'know."

Hobie threw his hands in the air, Miles' man is right here. Pavtri giggles, "Miles..."

"You describe Hobie?" Gwen hums.

Miles looking flustered at his crush but the sixteen year old look so lost, "I did! Oh..." He glances over at the punker, "It's because you're so amazing! Anyone would be so happy to be with you, man!"

Hobie had hearts with his grey pop into a blooms of pinks being so happy, he picks up his friend with a nuzzle, "Awe, I love you, too, Sunflower!"

"Huh! Where did that come from?" Miles felt his face so warm, he cover his face being embarrassed by all this.

Gwen said to Pavtri seeing Hobie happily carrying around Miles like a couple. "You know... they are taking their sweet ass time to date!"

"You know, Miles... our sweet Miles is too shy and naive!" Pavtri giggles.

What things annoyed and infuriated you the most in Wish 2023 (or Canon!Wish)?

OOOOH BOY! You just gave me permission to open a whole can of worms! Let's gooo!

Okay so here's a list:

I don't like how weak the reveal of what Magnifico actually does is. Asha finds out that he doesn't grant all the wishes, awesome, that would be a cool reveal, except, it's not a reveal, she freakin KNEW THIS! Asha herself said to a kid "It could be you someday" COULD! Asha, you said COULD, as in, there's the POSSIBILITY he'll grant that kid's wish, not a certainty! Not to mention if he only grants ONE wish per month then OF FREAKING COURSE not all wishes are granted. Okay, case in point, there's no grand reveal that the king is doing something no one knew, Asha apparently just forgot how their kingdom works.

Now hear me out, I am NOT one of those people that says Magnifico is a hero and Asha is a villain, I wanna make this clear, because although I find people who legit think like that kinda funny and I reblog their takes from time to time, I also find it frustrating that Disney managed to make a STRAIGHT, WHITE, MAN, IN A POSITION OF POWER, MORE LIKABLE THAN THEIR SECOND BLACK PROTAGONIST! ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? IT'S SO EASY TO MAKE US HATE HIM!!!-ahem- But, although Magnifico is the most likable character in the movie, I do not see him as a hero, no no no, keeping the wishes away from the people of Rosas is bad, pretending that he'd grant Sabino's wish only to say SIKE was bad, saying he'd never grant Asha family's wishes was bad. So, am I saying Magnifico is a villain?... No. That's topic number 2, Magnifico wasn't a villain, he was a jerk. A jerk does not a villain make. I didn't feel threatened by that man for not a single minute, and that's including when he was possessed by the evil book, speaking of which.

That dang book both ruined and saved the movie honestly, because yeah, although it's a stupid way to make Magnifico an actual villain, but in a way that makes us sympathize with him since he's not in his right mind, and the last thing you want is for the audience to feel bad for your villain... Well, there's exceptions of course, but that's a whole other subject. But even though the book caused all this damage, it also gave us King unhinged, campy, straight up evil, fruity, voiced by Chris Pine having the time of his life Magnifico, and I loved every second of it, I ate possessed Magnifico up, I was living for every cringe cliche evil dialogue that came out of him, like hell yeah, that's what I've been waiting for, that's what it's all about WOOOOOO!!! I loved him so much I just copy pasted his personality into the Magnifico in my rewrite, although, my version is actually willing to kill teens, while Canon Mag seemed more hesitant for some reason, my headcanon is that Magnifico was fighting the curse deep down, and that's why his magic actually didn't hurt anyone, so... That's sad, hope he breaks out of the mirror and kills them all Idk

We're on topic 4 and this is not even half of my problems oh my... Anyway, Asha is boring. And I mean like, in a way that feels intentional, how did they do it? It's fascinating how she has nothing going for her, she doesn't stand out, doesn't have any internal conflicts at the start of the movie, something ALL Disney princesses have: Belle doesn't fit in with her village, Mulan struggles to make her family proud, Mirabel struggles to make her family proud x10.000, Moana wants to explore the sea but can't, Ariel wants to explore the land but can't, Jasmine wants to get out of the castle but can't, Cinderella is a victim of domestic abuse, ya'll get the idea, all these girls get their struggles that make them compelling, what's Asha's struggle that has been with her for most of her life?... Uh... Her grandpa, this dude we just met and seems pretty happy... Doesn't have his wish granted yet... Ok, what else? Oh yeah everyone in town seems to love her and dance along with her to show tourists how cool the kingdom is... Uhum... So yeah she has no compelling struggles that hook us with her from the start, and the conflict she DOES get, as I explained before, feels underwhelming.

The setting, oh the setting. Like, don't get me wrong, the architecture is pretty, but nothing about it screams SPAIN to me, where is the cultural food? Where are the bulls? Where's the stuff we associate with the Iberian Peninsula? They did such a good job in Encanto, what the heck happened? Oh and did I mention that most of the animals that appear in the forest are not even native to the Iberian Peninsula, there would be no racoons in a medieval setting there, considering they're an invasive species that was brought there from North America, something that, I assume, wouldn't be possible back then, as I don't think the americas were even discovered yet, but anyway, there they are, racoons hanging upside down from their tails, something they can't even do. Sorry for expecting biology accuracy from my disney movie guys, but you can't just make Encanto, that was freaking amazing with it's inclusion of so many gorgeous latin American animals, and then do whatever Wish is, like bruh where were the Lynxes??? They're an endangered species there, Disney could've raised awareness!!!

The music...

Valentino was absurdly annoying, and it would be SO EASY to make a baby goat cute! Baby. Goats. Are. Cute. SO WHY DID YOU MAKE HIM UNFUNNY GOAT THAT MAKES BUTT JOKES???

Characters were unmemorable, Asha's mom didn't do anything, Sabino, whose supposed to be the backbone of the story, is barely a character, and again, it's not like Disney hasn't made likable elderly people before, Moana's grandma, Mama Coco, but my guy Sabino was just... There.

Aaaand I probably could go on and on but I can't think of anything else, feel free to share your own problems with the movie yall.

I made this story cause, first of all.. PAINTBRUSH, second of all, they needed something ,, like— have you seen that silly billy get angry?! My dude (in an enby way) was a FREAKIN BOMB!! I just HAD to make something abt them!!!

I love telling this story!

I started drawing around 9 y/o and it was because my mom (who in no professional way is an artist. She works in law) was able to draw the cartoons me and my sister would see on TV.

I always looked up to mom as a little kid and wanted to figure out how to do that as well.

Time went on, I got into anime in middle school, checked out a bunch of Christopher Hart "how to draw anime books", and continued to draw all throughout high school.

Just to realize I didn't like how I was creating art.

I felt stuck and looking at the 7 years of art I did from middle school and high school I really felt I wasn't...changing.

Then I didn't change how I approached art for a few years after that. I was a workaholic so I never really dedicated as much time as I had wanted to figuring out how to change.

I tried branching out with different sources like studying Glen Keane gestures and loose western cartoon styles. Still felt stuck

THEN QUARANTINE HAPPENED 🗣️

Remember that workaholic life I mentioned? I use to work at least three jobs all at once before quarantine. Then I had no jobs. And I freaked out cause I saw my self-worth was connected with how much work I could do at once.

Not healthy, be better than me folks.

Anyway I needed a way to kill time and feel like I was accomplishing something. Then art reared her shiny ass in my face and said

"...draw, bitch"

So I did. All day. Every. Single. Day.

And there wasn't a goal to be a better artist this time. I just needed a damn project 😂. And it wasn't until the end of 2020 I saw improvement looking back to April

Also I won't lie, I made a tik tok in April, it blew up outta no where in August cause of Rock (freakin) Lee of all things. And I liked the attention. Don't be like me. I burned out very quickly due to that mindset of "make art people want to see as fast as possible!" Not make art for myself.

Anyway, by then I was use to drawing everyday. Not even full blown illustrations but like doodling everyday. And I wanted to keep that routine. So I got jobs that would allow me to at least be able to sketch at breakfast before work.

Then I got a job as a paint and sip instructor, so I was able to try painting more often

And from there I just started playing with art supplies all around. I treat art like math. My brain gets easily distracted and with that in mind, if I get tired of digital art, I go to color pencils or watercolor or gouache and then rinse and repeat.

Hey GG! I saw on Twitter that you're giving Brandon Sanderson a try, and I'm curious if that means you'll give the locked tomb a shot next? It's definitely a series with a lot of Wild Writing Decisions, but I think the good outweighs the bad and I'd love to hear your opinion on it.

i read gideon the ninth. i admired how unapologetically modern (i.e. online) its tone was, and it even encouraged me to aim for more of that in my own writing. but unfortunately i just couldn't get invested in the story. it is heavily homestuck-flavored which does not agree with my digestive system. i didn't dislike it, but also didn't finish the first book with any strong desire to read the second. sowwy.

while i'm on the subject, people sometimes tag art of loic as palamedes and i'm going to stuff them in a locker about it. you can't just see any dude with glasses and call him your blorbo. that's my freakin blorbo you're talkin about.

I really REALLY wanted to talk about my new favorite comfort story before the next Halloween event: Lost with Stitch!!

***Long Post ahead! You've been warned! 😭 (ONE OF MY FAVORITE EVENTS SO FAR!!)***

First off, the outfits for everyone!? Perfectionnnn!!

Like guys can’t we just pay each other a nice compliment!? Nope, not even possible 😂

AND LILIA WITH HIS ONLY CONCERN!? 😂😂😂

It’s such a difference from Lilia of the past to now is such a stark difference like wtf 😭

AND FINALLY WE MEET ONE OF THE CUTEST CHARACTERS: STITCH!! 💙

Seeing everyone being so confused with Stitch was such a treat and him messing with Grim in the beginning WAS TOO CUTE!

AND GANTU?! DUDE WAS FREAKIN HUGE!!

But I loved how everyone ended up working Stitch he's just too cute!

And Stitch being so friendly with us!

I was gushing over how freakin cute Stitch managed to fit right in with all the misfits from NRC!

I felt so horrible for Azul but I can't stop laughing at the fact that Stitch quickly adapted to Lilia's bizarre taste and basically booking it away from him 😂

And how Ace was trying to save us from basically being poisoned so I think we can all thank Ace for the save 😂

And I wasn't sure how they were going to build a shelter BUT THE WAY I TWEAKED SEEING THIS!!!

THATS THE HOUSE!!! THE HOUSE WITH LILO AND NANI!! I REALLY WISH THEY COULDVE BEEN IN THIS STORY AND SEEING LILO REACTING TO EVERYONE WOULDVE BEEN SO ENTERTAINING

I don't know about you, but Floyd wanting to do the campfire by the beach HAS BEEN A HUGE DESIRE FOR ME SO I CAN'T BLAME HIM FOR DOING IT

BUT THEN GRIM AND LILIA MAKING US DANCE WITH ACE I WAS GASPING FOR AIR

I GOTTA CHILL OUT BUT I WAS SO IN LOVE WITH THIS SCENE AND HONESTLY I DIDN'T KNOW WHICH OPTION TO CHOOSE

BUT FLOYD AFTER PICKING THE EMBARRASSED OPTION WAS HYSTERICAL LIKE IS HE A SECRET SHIPPER FOR US?!

UHHHH I MEAN I DON'T MIND AS LONG AS IM DANCING WITH ACE (and of course with Grim since he's such a goofball that I adore 🥺)

I would love every minute of this seeing everyone dancing (even though I'd probably embarass myself 😂

It was fun seeing everyone rotating in the groups and just jabbing at one another. Lilia with Jack and Riddle being "less amusing" than Floyd and Stitch

And THIS JUST SOLIDIFIES HOW MUCH I LOVE ACE:

The fishing part was hysterical with Azul and Floyd just roasting Ace's swimming skills just because he's human 😂

BUT THEM HAVING US TAKING LILO'S SPOT AND HAVING STITCH CLING TO US?! I WAS LOSING IT! ESPECIALLY WITH HOW CONCERNED ACE AND GRIM WERE

AHHHHHHHHHHH I LOVE THESE TWO SO MUCH AND IF DEUCE WAS THERE HE'D REACT THE SAME WAY AND I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW MUCH THEY-*explodes into a million pieces*

....But of course Azul had to spell it out that we owe him but I DON'T MIND HE'S CUTE TOO

AND SEEING SOME OF THE FIRST YEARS ENJOYING THE BEACH TOGETHER AND MESSING AROUND IT JUST MADE ME FEEL SO WARM AND HAPPY INSIDE 😭😭😭

AND THEN BEING ATTACK WHILE STITCH KICKING ASS SAVING US?! LOVEEEEE IT!!

I could keep going on and on about it, but the last thing I wanted to mention is HOW WE HAVE PTSD FROM ALMOST LOSING GRIM

Overall this event has been so great. I wanted to do this post earlier but it's been chaotic with life but this is definitely a favorite event moving forward!

SPOILER ALERT FOR THE GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE TRAILER!! (long post, fyi)

Alright Ghostheads, I'm writing all this down now, so I won't forget all these thoughts and observations I'm having JUST a few hours after this awesome teaser for the "Afterlife sequel" has dropped.

I'm sure I'm missing some bits here, so comments are duly welcome, just don't go all negative energy on me =)

Definitely felt a similar vibe to when the first trailer for "Afterlife" came out like 2 years ago now. Normal summer day, good background music, then...sh*t happens. Even worse than that burst of PK energy from the mine shaft. And yeah, I saw bits of "Day After Tomorrow," I'd be lying if I didn't get JUST a little hint of that, but only because, you know, massive storm system overwhelming the south shore of Manhattan. But anyway.

2. I SWEAR that one building shot from the side is 55 Central Park West, aka Spook Central. Probably not significant plot wise this time, just a nod to the original movie. And considering I toured some of the filming sites on my trip to NYC this past summer, SURE looks like it!

3. Deadly icicles ripping up the streets? Like the earthquake tearing up the asphalt in the original movie only BETTER!

4. The discourse is already happening about details...I know some people like Ecto 1-A from GB2, and some fans are still angry about "they ignored it in Afterlife! It's so canon! WTF Jason Reitman?" Yeah...missing the point? [They're not DELIBERATELY ignoring GB2! I LIKED GB2! A lot! Not perfect but still I LIKE IT! Probably a lot more than other fans! The film only had so much time to focus on the past to keep the story moving, so only put in so much of the lore to help a new audience along. That's my theory I'm sticking to it.]

ANYWAY...yes the car IS the original Ecto 1, NOT the 1-A (which was WAY too busy for its own good, just sayin'). I saw the plate on a freeze frame, it's Ecto 1, the original.

5. Enter the exposition cut scenes. or whatever you want to call them. Swear to God that Patton Oswalt, Kumail Nanjiani, Dan, McKenna, and Logan are NOT at Ray's Occult Books...I mean come on look at those glass cases! It's GOTTA be the NY Public Library (throwback!) Patton's character is most likely a staff member, probably a librarian (related to Alice? God I hope so!) [GBs do their research yo! If that's one thing I love about the IDW comics, is how Ray and Egon and Kylie RESEARCH.]

That one bit with the frozen dude with the eyepatch? Looks like a flashback. Like, maybe Manhattan in the...late 1800s? Recurring hauntings is def a thing in the GB universe. Another secret society? Which, yeah, they did to death (sorry) with the Gozer thing, especially in the video game.

6. Liking all the concerned closeups. Paul Rudd still looking good, and I REALLY hope Carrie Coon as Callie has full on dropped the baggage about not having her Dad in her life. Well, mostly. Turned me off from her QUITE a bit in Afterlife, but that's just me. Finn's hair lookin' good short, love how McKenna still rocks the OshKosh look, and Logan with the retro vibe.

7. James Acaster HAS TO BE an adult Oscar. I WILL fight people on this =) Not Louis' kid, not Janine's... (well, maybe?) Peter and Dana are OFFICIALLY still a couple, what's to stop Peter from adopting the boy he saved in GB2? Or at least, maybe they have their own kid later on...? Damn I hope he's Oscar. I mean come on, this is still "Ghostbusters: the Next Generation" in my mind.

8. HAUNTED LION STATUE!!! (Yeah, that's right from Real Ghostbusters...kinda) It's the Library! And on another freeze frame...it's going after Ray (GASP!) That little elevator? Maybe they're going to...Special Collections? Remember the video game? Maybe? Squee?

9. DUDE, it's attacking GBHQ! Blew the freakin' doors off! It's gonna...NO NOT LUCKY! Dude she (they?) is getting the short end of the stick again...first she gets possessed by Zuul and now...please don't kill off Lucky, Gil! Also OGBs FTW!!! yeah Winston! bad ass mf as always! And man does Pete look proper scared. Go Bill Murray!

10. I'm presuming that the big bad/entity was originally trapped and stored in the ECU, hence the blinking red light in the post credits scene from Afterlife. And it's whatever's pushing out the cinder blocks this time around...and freezing Lucky in the basement of HQ? And it's the...thing pushing its demon horns in...(so far others are calling it a minotaur - totally NOT. this guy is so reaching, i mean an old obscure RGB comic reference from a wiki page? dude, just...no. a cross between a White Walker and Slenderman? yeah THOSE I get. I'm personally thinking some ancient demon from a summoning gone wrong...or maybe right in this case.) any case, DUDE with those icy blue staring eyes and 20 feet tall...f*ck yeah.

11. Also F*CK yeah Paul and Carrie in the jumpsuits! YES!!!

12. Alright, I can sort of buy a hidden room in Kumail's character's (presumably?) apartment, secret door at the back of a kitchen pantry with some pretty lead/silver tiling...but, what's with the horn? (SUMMONING HORN! Read the Bartimaeus Trilogy people!) and the shackles? the bells? well, yeah noise to drive away evil spirits...or not? again... SECRET SOCIETY! Or maybe Lucky and Trevor have their own place now? Nah, maybe not...wait and see I guess.

13. Dude...Paul Rudd is TALL, boy! Would like to see if they've actually gone and married...or, too soon? Nah, romantic/life partners is good.

14. I WANT THAT RED WINTER JACKET WITH THE PATCH! SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!

15. Also, Paul's reaction...SO my own after watching this. He is still fanboy-ing out and I LOVE IT.

Holy hell that was a long post. First genuine reactions on the day. Online journaling. All good.

Spoilers for Stormlight Archive, books 1-3.

Bit of an unpopular opinion, but…. I really liked Elhokar and I don’t like Jasnah.

I think they’re both excellent characters, but I can’t click with Jasnah. I was highly disappointed when she died in book 2, and then psyched like crazy at the end when it turns out she’s alive. But after that … I just didn’t like her.

Now Elhokar … Elhokar was frustrating to deal with through book 1. Like, omg, dude, just shut up, quit being such a snobby little bitch. But then in book 2 … he had moments. Moments that showed how human he was. Still a snobby bitch, but he had potential to be better. And he was aware that he was flawed, but didn’t use it as an excuse for his shittier behaviors. Finally, in book 3, he tried harder to do better than he had done previously. It was beautiful, seeing his growth as a person and character. He genuinely wanted to be the better person, and put effort into it. It may not have been much, but for starting out, it was the step in the right direction.

And then Moash killed him.

And all progress was cut short.

I read Oathbringer when it came out, and I’m still not over Elhokar’s death. That was truly devastating to me.

I know that Jasnah is a better person than Elhokar was, but … I can’t put my finger on what about her bothers me. I’d say it’s because she’s too cold, but I’m not bothered by coldness in characters, generally. She also seems too perfect, but even that’s not true; she does mess up occasionally. She’s a good character, though, that’s the truth. And I adored the way she pushed Amaram’s buttons in book 3. Like, sit the fuck down, son.

Overall, though, I don’t find Jasnah interesting to watch (at this point in time, maybe that’ll change). And I do miss Elhokar.

Also, I keep getting this weird, stupid image in my head of Elhokar wearing clothing that are a bit too big for him, and I think it’s because of some weird, symbolic translation in my head of him in a role that was too big for him.

I also love the scene where he’s with Lopen’s family. He’s the freakin’ king, yet when the lady tells him to sit down, shut up, and finish his breakfast, he just sighs and does so like, “yes, ma’am.” That had a lot to do with his mental state at the time, and I love it.
