Imagine what would happen if someone had the weirdo idea that for every design milestone in your Survival Crafter loop, you had to sit through a pre-recorded performance of Shakespeare's juvenilia.

It's fun, it really is - I enjoy roleplaying as this mildly terrified Anglo-Parisian traveller to the Faewilds who's having to contend with freaking blue wolves and Steampunk Terminators set in a pastoral setting that really goes "Hey, what if John William Waterhouse, but 3D?" - but Puck really needs to learn the Bard's best lesson, which is that brevity is the soul of wit.

I get it, cranking open a thesaurus and finding the most obscure English word possible to refer to anything adds to Puck's aura of mystery and sophistication, but when he needs four fucking minutes to essentially tell me "craft the key item you need and press onward", you have to ask yourself a few questions. Namely, did I really need to sit through all this?

Real talk I've recently realized how much fun it is to switch to the perspective of a much more casual character. It gives me room to play with the grammar and sentence structure, focusing on something the character would feasibly say rather than some platonically perfect ideal sentence. Switching between that and more floral prose can be helpful when you want to develop more ways of writing or a more flexible tone.

[repeating to myself in the mirror] it is fine to write serviceable workaday sentences. not all of them have to be the God-King of Sentences, beautiful in structure, deft in word choice, gilded in metaphor, etc. sometimes a guy has to get from one side of a room to the other.
