Do you think that this could possibly happen or not? (Even though I know you're a elucien and gwynriel fan)

I wrote down my thoughts on it and it's chilling in my drafts until I post in the morning, ha.

I don't believe that Lucien would lie about such a rare occurrence in fae history, no way.

Lucien “I’m a mated male,” Vanserra is the last character to ever be seen as deceptive in this series—especially in a way that would paint him as a villain archetype. Lucien, who lost his eye by spitting back at Amarantha. Lucien, who bowed before Rhys in order to protect Feyre. Lucien, who accepted lashings and near death more than once to help Feyre UTM. Lucien, who gave up his home and friends to both help Feyre and to see his mate. Lucien, who shook at the sound of his name upon Elain’s lips. Lucien, who travelled across the world just because of Elain’s visions.

Lucien may have his faults, but purposefully faking a mating bond to deceive the Inner Circle? Sounds to me like some people lack a clear understanding of how he is as a character—and also the nuances of a mating bond, fated mates trope, and the romantasy subgenre.

I have exhausted this same argument time and time again, but the fact is that, once Feyre unleashed Helion’s Spellcleaving ability in Hybern, any spells/wards/charms would have been dismantled. In the case that Lucien had, somehow, created a fake mating bond in that moment, Feyre would have broken it. On top of that, Feyre has looked into his mind and the reader experienced the pull of the mating bond/mating instincts that Lucien felt in ACOWAR. On top of that, both Elain and Lucien have exhibited mate behavior towards one another/for one another throughout the series.

Azriel and Elain are not mates and that is simply debunked by Elain and Lucien being mates. There is not a single reason why a fake mating bond would need to have been created, especially because SJM changed Lucien’s mate from Nesta to Elain. Had she planned on any sort of fake bonds/rejected bonds, that would have taken place with Lucien and Nesta. Her simply speaking about them in interviews, online, and unprompted is telling enough of her intentions and plans—the same plans she claims has not changed.

I truly want to know what these people believe that Lucien would gain from spying on the Night Court. Who is he giving his intel to? Eris, who already has a front row seat to the Inner Circle? Beron, who has no interest in him? Tamlin, who is a shell of his former self? Koschei, who has more interest in Nesta and Vassa than the Inner Circle?

Allow us to humor them for a moment. Lucien faked a bond with Elain, yet spends the majority of his time in the mortal lands away from her—what intel is he gathering by being away? How did he manage to tug on the bond and have Elain feel the thread around her rib? How did he manage to trick Feyre into seeing his mating instincts when she looked into his mind? The list can go on and on.

tl;dr — The bond between Elain and Lucien is real, has always been real, and they are true mates. Any other argument against any of those canonical facts needs to be taken up with SJM herself.

Genuinely convinced that the people who love Ascended!Astarion and argue with people about him genuinely loving Tav the same way he did before, or it being his best ending over Spawn (in terms of character arc, not taste) legit only picked the enthusiastic options for Tav when dealing with him, and most certainly didn't break up with him and talk to him afterward. He says some downright chilling shit to a Tav who refused to become a spawn.

And like, sure, it's because he's hurt and he's coping to some degree. Astarion can be vicious even in a good mode, and Tav agreeing to help him ascend only to essentially abandon him is painful to deal with, but of all the shit for him to say??

Tav can argue that he's becoming like Cazador the night before, and he gets so hurt and angry if Tav says that, and it makes sense! It's a harsh thing to say, and even after that argument, no matter what, Astarion will be willing to let it go if Tav wants to stay together and agrees to become his Spawn. You can run through the entire dialogue tree again before it forces you to pick an out option, that's how desperate he is to keep them. But like goddamn how can you beat the accusations if you're willing to say shit like this?? A thing that could have easily come straight from Cazador!

Regardless, however, of his desperation, his real feelings, Ascended!Astarion is fundamentally different, in his mind, than how he used to be. Magic has literally corrupted him, changed what his body is capable of, the curse that he was given as a spawn is different now. Sure, Astarion didn't stop loving Tav the second the ritual was over, or the day after or the day after that, but even he knows he's changing, and rapidly, but he can only recognize so much of what's different, and everyone else can see what he can't. By his epilogue at the end of the game, he might as well be another vampire lord, just far, far more dangerous.

i think that one of the most idiotic anti-byler arguments is the one that goes “but they live in a small town in the 80s! It’d be too unrealistic for mike to be gay and in love with will!” There are SO many faulty things about this statement, i can hardly keep myself from screaming.

First off, “they live in a small town” you say? So what now? Sexuality is defined by your geographical location now? Like, “oh, you don’t live in one the few main big cities in the world where it’s relatively safe to be gay and proud and able to celebrate your love! You can’t possibly be gay! I know another gay person within a 10 mile radius of where you live, it’d be too unrealistic for you guys to live this near each other!” Whether you live in a small town in Indiana, london, or a little village in the east, it doesn’t matter. Just because you were born in a small conservative town doesn’t mean you can’t be gay. Trust us, it would have been so convenient if that were true, and it would have saved millions of lives.

Secondly, the fact that it’s the 80s doesn’t mean Mike can’t be gay and in love because, for starters, gay people weren’t a fabrication of the 21st century. Hell, gay people weren’t even a fabrication of the last millennia. We have always existed. Just because you don’t often see queerness in old works of art or literature, movies even, sculptures, folk music, it doesn’t mean it wasn’t there. It was just hidden behind metaphors, melodies and longing stares, the light brush of fingertips and eyes forever locked and captured in paintings. Just because people weren’t able to label themselves or “come out” or state their love in more concrete ways, it doesn’t mean their feelings didn’t exist. I can accept people saying “it’d be hard for him to accept himself” (same goes for will, robin and every other queer character) because hell yeah it would! It’d shake and shatter his perception of both himself and the world around him once his feelings were clear. “It would be hard of them to come out, even to the people closest to them” definitely! It’s still so difficult to come out, because you just can’t know for sure how the other person is gonna react to your coming out, if their perception of you might be altered forever. It’s a huge risk to take. And i can’t imagine what it must have been like for queer people back then. But to say that it’d be unrealistic for mike to be gay and in love with will? That’s such bull, in my opinion. Of course it would be difficult for him to decipher his feelings at first, but the lack of words to describe them doesn’t completely disregard their existence.

I just- if you don’t ship byler, that’s fine. Truly. But please stop this bullshit because it makes you look ignorant and stupid
