Fiction Works with Footnotes
Round 1
The Emily Wilde series starts with Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries
Emily, a Cambridge professor of dryadology, travels to Hrafnsvik, Norway to study a previously unstudied type of faerie, in order to complete the Encycopaedia she is working on. This book is incredibly cozy, with every chapter being an entry from Emily's journal, complete with foot notes at the bottom of the page to explain the study of dryadology, which was an absolute joy to learn of.
Edwardian lady academic studies fairies in a remote Scandinavian town. She's an excellent academic but has zero social skills and doesn't understand how to navigate conversation. The book is told as her diary, and the footnotes are mostly in-universe citations of other works on faeries. Oh, and her academic rival also shows up in the same remote Scandinavian town and it turns out that she hates him but he thinks they're best friends.
How to Train Your Dragon :
We all know the httyd movies. the books are VERY different, but equally as good. the story slowly transitions from episodic adventure type to a full blown war between 3 different factions and is told from the perspective of Hiccup as an adult . They have heavy themes of cycles and the past coming back to haunt you. and of course little footnotes of either when something happened in a past book, or side notes joking about bits of the text.

i watched your dtl PMV recently and its SO GOOD?!!!??? its making me run around my room crazy style thank you for making it!!!
I'M SO HAPPY TO HEAR THAT!!!! Ironically I was just talking about it again last night so I'm very pleased folks are still resonating with it; I doubt drawn to life will ever lose it's importance to me, and it makes me smile knowing other people feel similarly :^) I really hope to make more works focusing on dtl in the future considering a lot of my thoughts and analyses of it differ from typical fanon interpretation.... as well as a few aus I've made that I haven't shared much about!!

ART MUSEUM DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE
my favorite pieces are the Detroit Industry Murals at the Detroit Institute of Arts painted by Diego Rivera and Flowers in a Rococo Vase by Paul Cézanne, which I saw at the National Museum of Art back in 2015!!!!!!! tell me yours if you want
AAAAAAAAAA PLS YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH I ADORE THIS!!!
I LOVE hearing about people's favourite pieces like. This is fr my love language 🥹 it's amazing to look at something you would maybe not give much importance through someone else's eyes 💙
AND YOU GOT TO SEE THEM??? WOW that's so incredible!!! Those murals are gorgeous - I can only imagine how surreal it must've been to stand there like 🥹✨
Okay so, in order, mine are Monet's garden paintings - I don't think I have one specific favourite, but the water lilies and bridge paintings are so special to me! Love love love Monet (did see some of his work at the London MoMA!!! So special!!!).
Then we have Psyche Revived By Cupid's Kiss by Antonio Canova, which I have been very annoying about in here before lmao. It's on the Louvre and I really want to visit it 🥺 I know for a fact that I'll weep seeing it in person 🥺 (it's also my favourite myth btw 💘)
Then my most favourite is probably Portrait Of A Lady by Gustav Klimt. I've been in love with it for a million years now 💙 HERE:
Tumblr media
Everyone talks about The Kiss or Adele or any other with his famous patterns like Death and Life and The Virgins, etc etc. But for some reason Portrait Of A Lady makes me go all fuzzy and warm and teary-eyed. I can't explain why. Would also love to see it in person one day - it's in an Italian museum (forgor the name).

Y'know, it just occurred to me that the fact that most asexual characters in media completely abstain from relationships could very well be contributing to this really dumb "asexuals don't do relationships" mentality.
It actually kinda makes me hope Alastor ends up in a relationship. Way too many people act like it'd take away his asexuality but like. Asexual people start relationships with people all the time. Even if it's not Radioapple (which honestly seems the most likely if Viv decides to put him in a relationship; I think it could do a lot for both Lucifer and Alastor's character development personally), I wouldn't be opposed to Alastor canonically being in a relationship.
It feels like too many pieces of media have played into the "asexuals don't do relationships" stereotype and it's absolutely contributing to the "is it okay to ship Alastor" discourse. If you're asexual and sex-repulsed, your opinion is not the end all be all of asexual representation. If you're allosexual and weirdly defensive of Alastor's asexuality, for fuck's sake listen to MULTIPLE opinions from asexual people before posting about how uncomfortable Alastor ships make you oh my god

Have you ever gotten a book the day it was released and read it all that same day? And then you had to immediately talk about it? Well guess what happened to me! This is half a book review and three quarters gushing over Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett. Please enjoy!

So is there some like. Explainable reason that when we (and by we I mean women or afabs in general) are given media as preteens/teenagers that has a mean girl posse that we're supposed to hate or feel superior to we instead go 'yas queen slay' (or in my case aspire to be like them but that's its own can of worms tbh), or what? Out of curiosity if nothing else.
My theory is that the writers don't do a great job of making the characters' unlikable traits outweigh their inherent appeal in terms of confidence, design, and adult disapproval, thus turning them into a walking instance of 'Do Not Do This Cool Thing'. Sorta like how those weird pro-social cartoons from like the 80s (The Get-Along Gang, Little Clowns of Happytown, etc.) manage to kinda make the 'antisocial' kick-me character more likable than the rest of the cast.

F/M Couples
Round 1
About Emily and Wendell :
She's uptight and nerdy, he's a silly boy who's totally besotted. amazing.
About Elizabeth and Darcy :
I was on the train yesterday and the lady literally recommended this to her guy-friend on the phone to improve his understanding of women (for romantic goals). And she's not wrong. The detail might be Regency but the themes are universal. Everyone has to work on their blind prides and prejudices so they can find the person they are best matched to.

In my mind Total Drama Island is the only season of the show and every season after that is in a separate pocket dimension where everyone is slightly worse
