60s manga is genuinely so interesting like obviously in western centric conceptions of comic history that is primarily known as the time that birthed the modern superhero but the shit that was being done in especially the Alternative manga scenes centered around artists revolving around student protest groups and magazines like Garo is so fucking cool. I will constantly be on my "read Kuniko Tsurita" bullshit ever since I read her collected works in the small spaces she is talked about she is known for being one of (if not the first) female mangaka to break out of the shoujo mold that women were restricted to and make some of the most beautiful alternative comics of the 60s-80s (when she passed away)
