Does anyone else have very complicated ways of shipping?? like when i say "i ship them" i don't mean "oh they love each other so much they kiss each other and will be together forever" i ship characters but in a way that's unique to only them and/or only in certain scenarios
Like, for example Zelink- I think pre-calam zelink was one sided, i dislike post-calam zelink, but i sort of like totk zelink (yes i know they are the same two people) but only certain dynamics??? but i also think that its the type of love that goes unsaid, they just look out for and support each other, maybe its not entirely romantic but they are closer than friends. It's the type of closeness you can only get by knowing that no matter what lifetime you are in the other will always be there. I don't think its necessarily the type where they hide behind pillars to make out, or try to stay in a committed relationship, but more of a tired love, one that has been renewed throughout hundreds of lives, each time being something different.
But take skyward sword, i believe that it's easier to see romantic zelink here
or Miphlink - I don't really ship this, but it's a tragic one-sided love story that Mipha knew was doomed from the beginning. The other woman. Was never given enough time to tell Link how she felt, yet even if she had time he might not have returned her feelings. Now he barely remembers her. Maybe 100 years later she's a little embarrassed of herself, of what she wrote in her diary. Maybe it was a simple crush, mistaken for undying love and has dwindled over the past century. But now it's a sad love, the type where she grieves for what used to be, and what never will. But after being saved from Ruta she switches her sights towards the domain. She can see how much her brother has grown and is so proud of him. She knows Link will never remember her fully, but maybe it's for the best. No matter what, she will always be there to heal his wounds.
Tbh i was dragged into Revalink kicking and screaming, but now it's one of my favorites. - Their dynamics work so well, but oh no it's so sad. Started from a one-sided "rivalry" to some sort of friendship. Link never hated Revali, he didn't even dislike him. And Revali just wanted Link to be impressed, to understand why he was chosen for his role as pilot, and he wanted Link to prove himself to Revali (honestly i can go on a on about why revali was harsh to link in botw if anyone wants me to) But over time they both start to realize that they are more similar to each other than any of the other champions. They weren't born into noble families or blessed with magic. Revali learns about the vigorous training Link underwent after pulling the sword, and Link learns that Revali isn't the son of the elder or was an important figure in his village before becoming a champion, but a simple warrior just like Link. Their friendship grows and they become a great team, surprising mostly everyone. Maybe it grows into something more. Maybe neither of them know it. Maybe they just never admit it. Revali knows Link doesn't remember him. He doesn't want him to. He tells Link not to go asking about him to the princess. It's for the best, he will still be there to help Link after all. Maybe it's cruel to keep him from knowing. Well, Revali will be gone soon anyway. Maybe he hopes that Link will at least remember good things about him.
Honestly I love revalink aus, they are my fav!!
I think of Zelimpa (aoc) like a mix of how i described miphlink and revalink but im too tired to explain it rnnnnn
oh also urbosa/zelda's mom but i think that goes unsaid
but anyway these are just a few. Most of the time i can't use words to exactly explain something pictured in my head, (synesthesia is so silly) but i tried my best

Whumptober day 11 is driving me insane /pos
There’s so many things I’m thinking about them learning about each other
Wild’s amnesia and memory attacks
The fact that that aoc link pulled the master sword after being appointed as Zelda’s guard and getting to know her, rather than at around 12 like wild.
And therefore never had to really face a Zelda who resented him bc of her preconception of what the hero would be like
And while still quiet, never really got deep into that emotionally numb dissociative headspace wild did pre calamity—
because unlike him, aoc link had an established social circle/outlet with the other soldiers (as seen in several cutscenes)— bc he hadn’t spent years building up the persona of an unshakable hero
(Sorry I’m rambling lol)
I already had thought about aoc link vs botw link a lot, but I had never thought about them meeting before now!!!!
I would love to hear more about your thoughts on them!!!
(Also love the name Tyde !! 10/10)
AH tysm!!! I had a blast writing that fic, I'm glad people like it :)
I have many thoughts on them >:) It would take the two of them so long to figure out how to coexist I think, because?? For Wild, meeting an alternate version of yourself who seems to be everything you were supposed to be? Who's what he could have been if he hadn't failed?? Ouch. And for aoc Link, meeting a version of yourself who's what could have happened? Who he would be if he hadn't succeeded? Living proof of what the Calamity could have done to him and Hyrule as a whole??? ougghghg
Not to mention the complicated stuff surrounding their differing childhoods like you mentioned, how Wild had all that pressure heaped on him, how aoc Link (I'm going to start calling him Age it's easier), while still dealing with some stuff, didn't have it NEARLY that bad.
And Wild's amnesia/memory attack things would be a disaster, especially if he spent any amount of time in aoc Hyrule. Age mentions something about visiting his family in Hateno and Wild. Freezes. Age realizes pretty quick that that's a touchy subject, but when Wild does finally go to see them he's immediately sucked into a memory. It's so rough. I feel like everything everywhere would send him into one, it would be so, so rough.
They'd be a little like long-lost brothers who just have no idea how to act around each other. Wild is jealous, but also he's really happy for Age?? Age is horrified at what Wild's had to go through, but he also seems so free, is there something he knows that Age doesn't? They probably get into at least one fight. They probably cry in each other's arms. They're the only ones who might have any semblance of a clue of how the other feels and yet not at all and they're both disasters trying to figure it out. It's crazy.

Sorry in advance for how long this ask is. Botw was the first zelda game I played to completion, I played a tiny bit of twilight princess when I was younger purely because you could be a dog, the first dungeon of wind waker, and I have fond memories of both loving and sucking at skyward sword on the wii but ultimately I was just too young and easily distracted by games I was actually good at, and therefore less frustrated by, to have the attention span to beat a zelda game. I think I would have beat skyward sword if not for the motion controls being very frustrating.
Anyway, I played totk and then obsessively read your big zelda doc and basically every post you've ever made about zelda and now I'm insane. Thank you. I didn't have totk spoilers blacklisted at first because I assumed I wouldn't care because I never care about spoilers and then I saw your posts when you were finishing the dragon tears questline and it made me stop just running around doing sidequests and focus down the main quest like crazy.
I'm trying to decide whether to play skyward sword remastered or hrule warriors age of calamity (which I did very much enjoy the demo of) next and was wondering what you'd recommend. I did try to play ocarina of time on 3ds and I WILL go back to it once I stop being so mad at myself about dying in the first dungeon and also maybe give in to using a guide because I don't need to get a Good Grade in Zelda, something that is both normal to want and possible to achieve.
HIII i'm so glad i could be your introduction to zelda lore!! the question of aoc vs sksw really depends on what exactly you're hoping to get out of your gameplay experience imo.
aoc has its. decent points. i will say this. but the 2 most important things to know about it going in are 1. IT IS NOT CANON and none of the events within it actually correspond to anything that happened pre-botw, and 2. its gameplay is NOT zelda gameplay, it's dynasty warriors gameplay. you've already played the demo so you have some understanding of the gameplay, but you should know that that's ALL there is to aoc, and if you don't enjoy hours upon hours of hack-and-slash large-group combat, you're not going to have a ton of fun playing aoc. there is technically a story tying aoc together, and it has its moments, but they're few and far between. mostly it just kind of sucks. if what you're looking for out of this is a well-written story similar to the experience of botw/totk, i would not recommend aoc.
the most important thing i'd tell you about sksw is that even thought this one IS canon, the gameplay is still gonna be noticeably different from botw/totk. sksw is much closer to the classic zelda formula than the games you're most familiar with, and is actually smaller and more linear than games like oot and wind waker. the gameplay is also almost entirely dungeon-based, and those dungeons are gonna be noticeably harder than the botw/totk ones. what sksw DOES really deliver on is story!! i'd say it's comparable to botw with the way in which the story is told and the subject matter it works with. like i said, it depends on what experience you're looking to get! personally i would go with sksw but. we all know how story-focused i am LMAO

revali, ezlo, canon botw link, siffrin, asriel and odile for blorbo bingo :]
INTERESTING SELECTION..!!
Tumblr media
hes both a really funny character but also genuinely well written and the way the writers tried? to resolve his whole thing sucks to me honestly. its not/shouldnt be about having revali accept link as the hero/link needing to prove himself on some scale its about revali needing to prove himself to well, himself. + the layers of. whatever him and links dynamic is. the fandom just treats him either as a mean-spirited loser/someone unjustly needing link to prove himself/just mean in general, or just a plain loser which to be fair he Is a loser but he has Multitudes!!! i never see the more serious aspects of his character- his character is portrayed as serious Sometimes but its not in relation to himself if that makes sense? also with the loser depiction they make it like. a central character trait? i dont know how to describe it its like. they either make him dumber than he actually is for comedy or something? or it ties into the mean thing. also theres this
Tumblr media
EZLO!!!! funny old man!!! i like the hat aspect and how he was originally a minish and accidentally helped? vaati. its just unfortunately i dont think about him much </3
Tumblr media
haha. hahahHhaahshHEHYAHSDHSAHAHAHAHAHAHHA AHAHAHHHAHAHAHAHAHHAAAGHA oguh ok im normal now 👍anyways. god ok so, i should explain that most of the above? applies Specifically to pre-calamity canon link. post-calamity does have Some brainrot but it has much less of a grip on me. also i actually know Why im brainrotted to him specifically however thats a secret for now! anyways its. specifically its the way he constantly masks/his dynamics with everyone else not really fitting in, how instead of taking the role he may or may not have been forced into with stride he actively struggles with it and the impact it has on how people view him and how he views himself. on this level i like to completely ignore certain aspects of canon + aoc because it feels like the writers genuinely try to make him the Perfect Awesome Hero + trying to make everything he does revolve around zelda instead of being. A Character. and on this level as well the fandom interpretations...,,,,,, so for pre cal they . not never its 90% of the time they dont get it right they genuinely make him the perfect awesome hero and actually lives to serve zelda/make him just. gross?? like deep voice oOoo suave perfect always sweeping the floor but still has those secret juicy problems its. sighs gang chat even cmon. ITS LIKE THE .
Tumblr media
THIS ^ WHY DO THEY DO THIS. as for the 10% rest of interpretations its hard to describe as there isnt actually much of a common thread between them, in the end though it still isnt truly On Point. its possible im picky which yes i am but in the end it always feels like theres an aspect of the above image in his character in fanfics intentional or not, and they never seem to. critique it in a way? which completely fair you never have to center on something/mention it but its just. gestures wildly. sighs. as for post calamity i also dont like most of the interpretations but also its so much less worse. the only one that i think is Truly Honestly incorrect is link wanting/choosing to stay/follow zelda after freeing her, having it portrayed as he always didnt mind/even liked it. it just puts him into the same situation he was before/feels less like an actual genuine choice and more along the lines of it being chosen for him + once again revolving around zelda entirely rather than having his own thoughts and feelings no matter how 'wrong' or 'bad'.
Tumblr media
OGUH ALRIGHT SO. ok so. for context; start again a prologue and in stars and time are two different games with two different siffrins per say- i think about them each differently (its like theyre aus of each other) and . theres a Reason for that, both meta(?)ly/personally and also. theres a reason in isat however thats the most major possible spoilers you can conceive of thats easily missable so. for the purposes of today, im guessing you mean isat siffrin!!! because there is a difference. ANYWAYS. this ones complicated for me personally because i genuinely Used to be brainrotted about them + i liked them a ton (personal reasons and also catharsis). once isat came out though, it . actually cured my brainrot </3 . theres new(ish) themes and character dynamics/thoughts and while i Can see the appeal for other people, for me personally i just have no attachment im so sorry.
Tumblr media
ASRIEL!!!!!!!! THIS ONE IS ALSO COMPLICATED depending on if you think flowey and him are separate enough to be different characters. and. fun fact i genuinely like him a Lot More as flowey rather than "asriel" in a sense really just because of the true pacifist ending dialogue. he feels way too nice to me almost uwu in a way but also that isnt the entirety of his character gestures to the asriel boss fight and his dialogue as flowey. its. god ok its the way he was trying to hang on to anything he had left. asgore made him feel nothing toriel made him feel nothing (constantly watching her look for another human to take care of, another child to replace him until she finally forgets about him even though hes still there hes still here!! while toriel sees asriel and chara in every human that falls down and if they die shes failed asriel again,) papyrus mightve helped for a bit but like everyone else eventually apathy comes to settle in letting him feel nothing once again, alphys couldnt help him no one could help him hes seen these halls 100 times constantly daily and he wants to get out he cant be this anymore he wants to feel something!! anything!! he tried to die and he Did, deciding it wasnt worth it to live anymore, then discovering he could reset and load. he wanted what he had back, he wanted the ability to not be bored constantly to not know what comes next to feel something. chara is both the One Person who had yet to (unintentionally) "fail" flowey and the one person tied to his past who understands him. thats his sibling!!! toriel failed asgore failed the only person left is chara, and they cant fail. he remembers having so much fun with them!! he misses them because of the above and also because he has no one else. when he turns into asriel for lack of a better descriptor he's able to see things more clearly, recognizing that chara wasnt the bestest person ever and latching on to them as a solution was a choice made in anguish. in the genocide route he mentions that he had plans to do things on the surface with the souls but he says with chara around he wouldnt really mind/kind of drop his plans because chara is here!!! they can have fun again!!! theyre the only one who knows and understands what humans are truly like, what its like to be impaled by arrows (toriel caring for the next human child, forgetting about him) turning to dust and dying. they understand. they have to! also i should note i also love chara dearly and anyone who thinks theyre "evil" can die by my blade. anyways. hi . for the misinterpretations thing i think everyone mostly gets it right honestly i think people just tend to make him more "good" gestures to the uwu nice thing. OH and they also consider asriel to be the better flowey in a sense? like liking asriel for asriel but liking flowey for asriel rather than flowey. here just watch this for me ok. please i love you aromantism
Tumblr media
LASTLY ODILE!!! i do like how shes the one to constantly sus out siffrin + having her own issues of family and belonging and having her own goal. + old lady win. that being said i also do not think about her a lot i am sorry. shes neat just not for me.

Differences between AoC Link & BotW Link
I'll call them "Age" and "Wild", respectively.
It's tempting to think that Age is just Wild from before the Calamity struck, but if you pay attention, it becomes very clear very quickly that not only is that not likely the case, it's downright impossible. There are key differences between the two Links that happen even before Terrako hops back in time, and these differences point to each Link being an entirely different person. So let's examine those differences, shall we?
1. Wild first pulled the Master Sword before becoming Zelda's bodyguard. Age pulled it after. This right here is where a lot of the other differences stem from. We know from Zelda and Mipha's diaries in BotW that Wild was appointed to be Zelda's personal knight after he was already wielding the Master Sword. Age, on the other hand, was appointed to be the captain of her personal guard (another key difference I'll get into later) because of his exceptional skill in battle, being a "moblin slayer" and thus impressing the King. Age didn't pull the Master Sword until after he'd been captain of Zelda's security detail for some time.
2. Pre-Calamity Wild was quiet for Reasons™. Age is just a naturally quiet guy. One of the interesting things we learn about Wild from Zelda's diary is that, after pulling the Master Sword and thus being revealed as the Chosen Hero, Wild was under a ton of social pressure. He opted to go quiet—nearly silent—in an effort to instill confidence in those around him. He even did this around old friends such as Mipha, who noted the drastic personality shift in her own diary.
Age, on the other hand, never had this kind of personality shift. His quiet, steady, reliable demeanor is firmly in place before Terrako shows up, which is well before he finds the Master Sword. This implies that Age is just naturally like that, which gives some fun context to Age's other displays of a more Wild-like personality: eating gravel on a dare, scarfing down an entire rock roast like it's normal, shield surfing through hordes of enemies (potentially in his underwear), etc.
3. Wild and Zelda had a lot of one-on-one time before the Calamity, whereas Age and Zelda were almost never alone together. Wild was Zelda's sole bodyguard during her travels, both before and after the Calamity. Age, on the other hand, was captain of her personal guard, which consisted of at least Impa and often a few other knights as well. This is a very interesting difference because of how it affects Zelda and her relationships with each of them.
I'll start with Age. While it's clear via certain cutscenes that there's definitely some attraction between him and Zelda, it's very subdued and definitely not a point of focus for either of them. They each tend to go toward other people in the group to let their guard down a little and have some social interaction: Link hangs out with Daruk and the other knights in Zelda's guard, and Zelda turns to Urbosa and Impa for comfort and advice. This means that Age and Zelda never really have a chance to get to know each other. Thus, their relationship remains professional, as Princess and bodyguard with some attraction sprinkled in.
Wild and Zelda's relationship is completely different. Zelda tries to remain professional with him at first, but with him already wielding the Master Sword and with no one else readily available to turn to, her frustration becomes too much. She starts venting to him, about him, inadvertently opening up and showing him a bit of her true colors, or at least her honest feelings about the situation. This is a Zelda with no one else to turn to but the young man she unfairly despises. She even recognizes that this is unfair to him, as seen in her diary, but she doesn't know what else to do.
For whatever reason, be it out of obligation or choice (her demand that he return to the castle—a direct order from the Princess—could have given him an excuse to ditch her), Wild stayed faithful through all of it and stayed by her side. While we don't know exactly what was going through his mind and heart at the time, we do have a couple of clues.
First, as evidenced by conversations with Urbosa, he seemed at least mildly annoyed by Zelda's constant attempts to shake him, and remained doggedly determined to protect her no matter what he had to endure. Second, Zelda is the only person he ever opened up to. We know he was very close to Mipha, and yet, when she noticed him struggling and asked about it, he kept up the act of being fine. But when Zelda asked a similar question, despite how difficult it was for him, he opened up to her.
Over time, Wild and Zelda opened up more and more to each other. When Zelda had a breakdown at the Spring of Power, Wild was the one who comforted her. He was the only one there. Same thing after the Calamity struck, when she collapsed into Wild's arms, sobbing. Compare that to what happened in Age of Calamity: yes Age was there when Zelda had similar breakdowns, but it was primarily Impa who comforted and reassured Zelda every time something went awry. There was no opportunity for Age and Zelda to really get to know each other or bond the way Wild and Zelda did.
Which makes it all the more interesting to me that Age's and Zelda's dogged need to protect each other is what "unlocked their power", in a sense: Age was chosen by the Master Sword upon struggling to reach and protect Zelda against impossible odds, and Zelda was running to Age under similar circumstances when her own powers awoke. Clearly there is a link (ha) between them, even though they're not as close as their BotW counterparts.
4. Pre-Calamity Wild never carried, nor used, anything but the Master Sword: no shields, no bows, no spears, etc. Age, meanwhile, used all of those things. The most interesting difference (to me) between the battle at Fort Hateno in BotW vs. in AoC is that Age had a freaking shield. In none of the memories that Wild recovers is he ever carrying anything other than the Master Sword, which left him at a huge disadvantage when the Calamity struck and very well could have directly lead to his death.
The simple question, then, is why? Why didn't Wild ever carry or use any other weapons? Given the muscle memory he displays with these weapons in BotW proper, he clearly had the skill to wield them, so why not bring at least a shield and a bow to use alongside the Master Sword? This question is never answered or even brought up, but I think it's an important one. We could stipulate that he was under orders not to, or that he felt like he couldn’t. Whatever the reason, it was clear that Wild put a much greater emphasis wielding the Master Sword, specifically, than Age did.
I find all of these differences fascinating because, from what I can tell, Link is the only character who is clearly a completely different person in each game. All the other changes in the other characters could be traced back to the difference in circumstance: Zelda is less toxic to Link because she has Impa and Urbosa to turn to; she's more formal because she retains her seat as Crown Princess; Rhoam has a change of heart after being saved by a guardian shield; etc. It makes me wonder why Link is the only one who's so fundamentally different.
I, personally, like to think that Age and Wild were twins. Wild died young in the AoC timeline, and Age died young in the BotW timeline. We know from the existence of the downfall timeline that the death of a Hero can absolutely split the timeline, so it's not entirely out of the question.
While this twins theory would aptly explain both their similarities and their differences, it wouldn't explain other differences in the world, such as AoC Hyrule not having Ancient Shrines nor the Shrine of Resurrection. Could the ancient Sheikah somehow peer into the future and see which twin was destined to survive, and prepare accordingly? Or is there some other explanation? Ultimately AoC isn't canon anyway, but it's still fun to think about.

BotW/TotK Hylian Royal Family meta ahead.
These are my headcanons based on what I’ve seen from the games. Obviously, everyone has different thoughts on it. No bashing in it and possibly Rhoam-critical but not Zelda-critical. Just headcanons about how the role religion played in Royal Life pre-Calamity.
Also, I’ve barely touched AoC, so this meta is based more on BotW, TotK, OoT, MM, TP, and SS, with the full understanding that this is headcanon and no consistent canon on this matter exists and will never exist... not even between BotW and its direct sequel, TotK.
A major plot point in BotW is Zelda’s inability to connect with her powers. There is no indication that she can do the things Link takes for granted in BotW, like see the Koroks and dragons. I would be surprised if she could. She’s young, frustrated, and her father -- her only living parent -- is pressuring the hell out of her to connect with her powers. It’s clear in the flashback and in his journals that he isn’t acting like a parent and he’s aware of it. He’s acting like a king who knows that he needs a specific weapon and is given a rough rulebook on how to access the weapon. Per their history, Zelda has Goddess blood which gives her access to a weapon which can defeat this grand evil; her ancestor was able to activate it, so obviously Zelda should be able to do the same; Zelda is failing to activate the weapon which should be automatic to her per some ancient rulebooks. It’s unknown how detailed the guidelines for activating this power is or the King is just assuming that of course this is what Zelda needs to do to activate this power. I mean, it was 10k years ago (which seems insane to me, but whatever).
Here’s where more headcanons come into play. I think the power of the Goddess -- and honestly, pretty much everything spiritual -- is completely disconnected from the Royal Family in this era. Per their records, the last time the holy power was needed was a long time ago. I would be shocked if something else hadn’t happened in the meantime (seriously, it’s one hell of a time difference), but for them, the power of the Goddess Blood hasn’t been needed any time recently. Zelda has made it clear that she has no personal connection to it. Her drive is scientific. She has no internal motivation to be connected to the Goddesses. Her motivation to connect to her powers isn’t because she wants to connect to anything on a spiritual level. She wants the power to protect her people and, honestly, because she’s experiencing so much pressure and backlash. Again, per BotW (and TotK, really), we don’t see her do any of the spiritual/divine/extra stuff Link does. Link talks to multiple divine statues. He plays games with the Koroks. In the BotW flashbacks, she is happiest when she’s doing Science(!), and in TotK, she focuses on highly practical things with no stories (that I’ve seen so far) of her doing anything with a spiritual slant. Her focus is rebuilding a school, not rebuilding a church.
It makes sense, though! I think the Goddess Blood and its associated power is more academic than anything. They know Zelda has it. Hell, the Hylian Royal Family relies on that Bloodline to claim their divine right to rule. They know that the power of the Goddess was used by previous princesses to protect the family. With all that said, there is no indication in canon that it has any modern role in their lives. Hell, there is no indication that spirituality in general has any role in the lives of the Royal Family. It seems like the Goddess Blood has two primary roles pre-Calamity: to ensure Divine Right to Rule and to awaken to protect Hyrule from the Calamity. That’s it.
In at least one previous game, it was said that the Hylians’ ears were shaped that way in order to better hear the spirits and the like. We don’t know Link’s own abilities when it comes to this pre-Calamity. I personally enjoy the headcanon that he could hear and see far more than Zelda but didn’t want to say anything because it would hurt her. Would also match with the concept of “keeping his mouth shut helps keeps his ears open.” But there’s no strong evidence that spirituality or anything play a strong role in Hylian daily life pre-Calamity. It might have been something which was also lost through time. That is a major theme in many Zelda games: that important things, including connection with the divine, have been lost. The Zelda games love showing ancient, forgotten things, things whose stories can never fully be told again. The original stories are long lost, and all that exists in the BotW/TotK are modern interpretations, fairy tales, prophecies, etc. For further examples, see the Zonai Survey Teams and how they are excited about their discoveries but can’t connect to them in the way Link casually does.
I read a story once about how a pastor once invited an enthusiastic member of his congregation to lead a prayer one day. He didn’t ask her beforehand. She was always highly motivated, highly social, and a strong believer. He didn’t think anything of his request. It should have been fine! Instead, she walked up to the front of the congregation, stood there for a moment, burst into tears, and fled. Later, he discovered that while she was very religious, she was never taught how to pray. Prayer was a major part of their religion, and as such, it was expected that everyone automatically knew how to do it! Not so! He realized an important lesson that day and didn’t take it for granted again.
Prophecy and Divinity play a significant role in the Royal Family, but do they actually know what to do with it? Zelda is told to pray and she’s told to do it for a specific reason: unlock her powers so she can help defeat the Calamity. We never see the King pray or do anything religious at all. He obviously believes in the prophecies and such but doesn’t actively do anything himself: Hylia favors their family, Zelda has Goddess Blood, etc. etc. etc. Very matter-of-fact things. Nothing he needs to do, actually! Because according to the Prophecies, he just needs to make sure the players are in place! Actual knowledge and practice doesn’t come into play here. No actual internal spiritual beliefs: just practical applications.
So that’s my headcanon as to one of the reasons why Zelda struggled. Would knowing how to pray have helped in the end? Unknown. When her power eventually arose, she was still pretty disconnected from it. It seemed like in BotW and TotK that she never fully connected with it: just used it to fulfill her goal, which was stopping the Calamity from destroying her people. Maybe her daughter or granddaughter or whoever would connect with their spiritual heritage. Overall, King Rhoam, who had probably never really prayed a day in his life and had no real connection to Hylia himself, looked at his daughter, told her that the only way to awaken her powers was to pray, and never thought for a moment that if he didn’t know how to pray, how the fuck should she?

Glad the LOZ ask didn’t bother you ❤️ if you post any LOZ fics let us know! I’m sure people who love your writing and LOZ would like to read them (I know I’d be one of them, lol)
I personally have a weakness for pre-calamity Zelink because the possibilities? And the angst? Ugh. Another pre-calamity fic I love a lot is “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” by Dayhaven (they write so much Zelink, pretty sure any of their fics is great). It’s a To All the Boys AU where Link and Zelda have to pretend they’re together pre-calamity 👀 not sure if that would be your cup of tea (because of that and because it has smut) but it’s a fun read as well. Anddd I also loved a post TOTK fic by mitsuboo (apricatus) so much but it’s been on hiatus for a long time, it’s basically about Zelink not having gotten together yet even after the events of BOTW and TOTK and still being in the mutually pining stage, but it looks like it might not get finished and I know reading fics on hiatus can be frustrating, so ignore that one 😅
Hope you enjoy the recs if you check them out! ❤️
Not at all, I've been wanting to talk about it for a while, but I don't know anyone in the LoZ fandom and I've also been busy with school, so writing fic for it to break in has been slow going. 😅 I have so many ideas in the AOC timeline for similar reasons! Like the calamity is over, but they're still entrenched in the society that suppressed them prior. The post-botw fic I'm writing has its own challenges but bc basically everyone who cared about high society is dead, Zelda and Link can be a bit more lax and open, so Link talks more and they're more playful and silly at times, and Zelda falls more in love with him as they travel and meet all of his friends and she hears more about his kind deeds from the people he helped while she was sealed away. (Also Purah tags along with them a lot for fun purposes)
But in the AOC timeline post calamity they are still under the watchful eyes of the kingdom and Zelda has more clearcut duties as a princess, so I have a few different ideas. A couple of them involve King Roam being like okay, Calamity is over, and you're a woman now, so you need to settle down so I can pass the throne on. So, he starts inviting nobles to court her, but she's in love with Link. I have one that's more serious where Link enters a competition to win her hand both bc he loves her but more bc she's annoyed with it bc she can make her own choices and he's her friend so he supports her. Another one is more cracky in that there's a competition that he accidentally stumbles into and enters, and he keeps showing up the others on accident mostly. Zelda thinks it's hilarious.
I have another one post-AOC where Zelda is trying to understand her powers and gain better control over them, but Roam doesn't care about them now that the calamity is over, which kind of pisses her off considering how hard he pushed her to unlock them. But that one delves into deeper loz lore, and she has visions of her mom.
I have another one that's a crossover between post-totk Zelink who have faced two crises at this point and are just married and scraping their kingdom back together, and they get sucked into the AOC timeline with all of that crew bc the AOC bunch haven't dealt with the Demon King Ganon chilling under the castle yet. But it's interesting the differences between totk Zelda and Link who are way less suppressed and kind of doing what they want bc they're reestablishing the kingdom and the AOC Zelda and Link who are still stuck in the old ways and more high strung. And also totk zelink seeing all of their friends again.
I also have another ambitious one that is a OG Hyrule Warriors style crossover between a bunch of the mainline games where their worlds are all colliding with the BOTW verse, so you get Links and Zeldas from OOT, SS, TP, WW. And they all have to refight their Ganons. I'm most excited to write the WW duo in that one bc I love the idea of all of the other Zeldas being really proper and then there's Tetra who is literally a pirate 😂
I have so many ideas, and I've been slowly chipping away at my first one. I'm working on the third chapter of it, but that one is gonna be really long. I know exactly where it's going to end bc I literally want it to span the end of botw to just before totk starts and cover a lot of their journey to rebuilding and whatnot prior. I have the outline broken into arcs depending on where they're going and who they're seeing. And because I'm so busy I want to get through a couple arcs before I start posting it so I can avoid long hiatuses 🥲 I've been working on it in my little amounts of spare time.
But those fics sound really fun I am also a sucker for pining, I don't intend to put them together right away in my fic so I can play with that and basically all of their friends can see it but they're both still oblivious. It's the absolute devotion and mutual pining for me. And they're both just so broken and understand each other in unique ways no one else does because of their shared experience. 😍

Replaying age of calamity because you made me think about it a few days ago. And like, when it initially came out I didn't like how it deviated from botw's pre-calamity story but now I'm thinking about how it tells you there was no other way for botw to end but tragedy. That in their circumstances there was never going to be anything they could do that would save Link and the champions and Hyrule from those 100 years - because Link and Zelda were always going to falter under that pressure. Like stopping the calamity in AOC is only possible when the circumstances are completely different!!! It's making me even sadder about botw!!
AoC is the fucked up slice of life ep of botw and you'll never take that away from me. It's their only Good ending despite everyone having to go back to their respective timelines and make it non-canonical. Is it extremely dark in making you realize how doomed they are in the normal botw sequence where everyone is practically dead? Yes. Is it a visual representation of everyone's sorrow and guilt and regrets that they learn through being saved and given second chances? ABsolutely. Is there ancestral/familial bonding between the tragedies while putting all their strengths together to conquer said darkness? a thoOUSAND TIMES YES, AND I EAT THAT SHIT UP LIKE POPCORN. Also we get more Champions time and motherfucker do I CRY because it is so cathartic for me to see the (now canonically called) Sages to work side by side with their idols/ancestors to redefine what it means to be a hero for BOTH parties

I think the a problem with the (tbh kinda stupid) shipping war between Mipha and Zelda, is that honestly, both ships have value to the people who like them. But some folks just ruin it by being really aggressive about it (some reddit threads I've been subjected to are just nasty), and then you have the "neutral on shipping" people who start making jokes about it, with posts like the food-faces, and some take it to far and take shitposts but mean and push them unironically and without joke on people. Or some other "Haha Link loves X more than either of these two. You're so dumb for shipping him with anyone." as if both weren't huge players in Link's life pre and post-Calamity. (I still cry at some of the cutscenes in both BotW and AoC) As if people can't just have fun just shipping what they do, and avoid ships they don't like. I love me some Zelink, and even I started getting upset by how mean some Zelink shippers got, and vice versa with Miphlink shippers. 😔
yeah, I'm a pretty open Zelink shipper, I've written for them and drawn them and am part of a zelink community discord server, I obviously have a preference when it comes to the two but the way that they're set up against each other in fandom spaces is so weird to me.
Both can be meaningful relationships and both can coexist in the same space but I guess it is natural for people to get passionate about things they like. Doesn't mean it's okay to attack people bc they like a different ship than you do.
I actually feel pity for Miphalink shippers bc their girl is dead in canon and has weird age discourse that can range from grossly problematic and uncomfortable to practically nonexistent. But also there's far more unwarranted hate for botw Zelda because she's not treating Link like a king and her narrative isn't centered around him.
In the end, we're both victims of the misogyny of the Zelda community and should band together to go against our real enemies, the Revalink shippers /hj

this one's to the lovely who dropped an entire essay back @ me in the inbox! i've decided to format the post such that i can answer some portions directly so none of us get confused, hope you don't mind! anything indented is what you sent in, the rest is part of my response :) it's another doozy but we love those, don't we? asflkdj here we go!
Hi, hope you're doing well! I'd been the anon giving you asks more on Revali's personality and his behavior around the Flock and the Flock's reaction (mostly Tulin's) towards him. Also, the 1.6k did not overwhelm me- if anything made me very happy and overall more curious ahahaha. If anything- thank you so much for accepting and taking the time to answer these asks. Can relate to the unhinged feelings over the lonely rito- I could be hours and hours thinking. That gif of the guy with a board behind full of clues and trying to connect the dots- that's currently me.
hello, welcome back! thank you, hope you're having a wonderful time too!! ♡ also gotta thank you again for sending these in, i genuinely get so excited to see things like this in my inbox!! your passion is so great to see! i'm glad you enjoy my answers, and that they make you all the more curious and open to sharing with me ♡ what a huge mood though afklsjdg this stupid bird just has So Much to him
I've re-read your post various times and even tried organizing my thoughts in paper. And there is so much I want to ask... What caught a lot my attention- was how you spoke a bit of Rito village during & after the Calamity; ofc we don't really get a clear picture of the before even with AoC's light but we do get the clearest view of the aftermath of it (ofc 100 years skipped). I do feel (Pre-Calamity) Rito Village had a larger flock(?) compared to the village we get exposed during BoTW/ToTK events. In a way feels the loss of their Champion & Calamity's wrath- made them all realize the importance of that sense of unity.
yes, exactly! you get it! it's a natural outcome from suffering any huge loss...and while it comes from a place of tragedy, i just. really appreciate how homely and cosy rito village feels in both botw and totk because of it — you get that sense of nobody is genuinely uncared for, even link! and this isn't to say that the other peoples of hyrule don't care for their own, it just! hits different with the rito. like you get the impression that everybody interacts with each other everyday! you literally can't go from the top of the village to the bottom without seeing almost every single resident; they're all practically neighbours! they're all, on some level, friends!
this significance on sticking together as a community is especially evident in totk. seriously, it makes me so emo seeing the kids step up to fill in spaces the adults did not mean to leave behind nor expect them to fill :') and their efforts don't go unrecognised, as they shouldn't be, but oh my god. on my hands and knees over how cherished the kids are in this damn flock!! nekk ( MY BELOVED ) puts it best: "they're the saviours of this village."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and like! they're going through extremely hard times with supply scarcities but still find the capacity to be so generous?? there are more things than i expected lying about that you can just grab — that they'll consciously let you grab! i'm going to need these folks to stop having such a huge collective heart fr it's making me feel A Lot 😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media
( and in reviewing cutscenes from both botw and aoc in this context, i think we can safely say that their residential population was indeed bigger pre-calamity. there's more background npcs just chilling about in the memory "revali's flap" compared to most post-calamity cutscenes, and aoc literally shows that there are enough rito present for brigades! the reduced numbers we see post-calamity could simply be attributed to more rito travelling beyond their home and even hyrule, but then the calamity would probably be a big reason for that too )
Brings me back to ToTK, where I noticed most adults in a way spoke highly & relied (at least to me) a bit on Tulin's ability to use wind magic- after all it's been a long time since they ever witness it. But also appreciated how Harth's dialogues which he praises the boy's ability but is concerned of how Tulin is taking certain approach (how at first he goes alone) and his overworking state. Even Teba & Saki recognize their son's abilities but as parents are concerned- I am pretty sure while they acknowledge him as a rito warrior, they also want him to continue living his childhood. (Link does too btw- sorry I don't mention them often)
OH, FOR SURE. you are right on many points here; for sure, the adults have come to see tulin as a young rito warrior in his own right and do trust him to contribute in a way they wouldn't ask of the other fledglings; harth makes it clear that even before link had come, sending tulin to investigate the cloud surrounding the stormwind ark was an option they weren't as opposed to as our introduction to the kid made it seem ( and it's not just his wind-gust technique they're so in awe of either! god. he really has worked so hard!! and everybody can see it! 😭😭 ).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
with the worry, i believe the nature of it really depends! it's all completely warranted given how tulin's initial views on how "he doesn't need anyone else backing him up" has apparently "gotten him into trouble more times than [harth] can count" ( which is definitely concerning but also. it can't be anything worse than getting his bow stolen and being left with just his talons for defence in the face of a monster, right? because tulin. tulin. that could not have been your turnaround if you've been doing shit like flying straight into frost taluses solo or something sflkjd ) anyway, but it seems for teba and harth, it's more in a we're worried you're actively sabotaging yourself with your recklessness way.
Tumblr media
saki had hang-ups about tulin losing his innocence too early in botw ( "he is such a sweet boy," she says, and it never fails to make me collapse on my knees because he so is and the best thing is he never loses that aspect of himself!! ), but does appear to have come to accept that her son's growing up in totk? i unfortunately don't have a screenshot of the line that indicates this, nor do i remember it verbatim, but the vibes i'm getting from her are i'm worried because you have not learnt enough to be as grown up as you insist you are ( which leaves you ill-prepared for the situations you're trying to fly into ).
ofc it all connects to a primary worry for his safety and his tendency to do way more than anyone would ask of him, but i do think they understand, on some level, that trying to completely stop him is ultimately futile and will only make things worse — in that he'll start deliberately pushing them away when he's only leaving them behind for now.
he's a tween! still a child but only ever getting older, and with how important it is to their culture, i imagine being a warrior isn't as mutually exclusive from childhood as it'd be for us. like tulin's an outlier because he's a prodigy who excessively worked himself to that title, but i don't doubt that compulsory education for growing fledglings would involve, among other things, learning how to at least hunt and defend yourself in the wild! so i don't think it's that they're scared of him growing up too fast at that point in totk — because while he's definitely matured more than his peers in some parts, he is very much still experiencing being a child no matter what he argues in many others aflskdj — just more like...they want him to grow up well. properly, for a lack of better words. WHICH INCLUDES NOT OVERWORKING. oh my god with the overworking
( also oh boy. very glad you brought up link! no need to be sorry! i can't say much on him because i'm not a link writer, though i do ramble about his dynamic with tulin, including how he potentially sees himself reflected in him, over here if you're interested! )
But this also sends me off to another "path" makes me think- What if Revali didn't have this type of support? And it made me think how similar were Revali's and Tulin's in some aspects but how different the outcome were for both- it's a bit tragic at least for me.
YES. YES!! THIS IS IT, YOU HIT IT ON THE HEAD!! i've said it before and i'll say it again: tulin and revali are essentially one support system removed from being each other! they share notable parallels!
just. the fact that harth notices the injuries on tulin's wings from pushing himself to the limits. we don't get follow-up dialogue on that, but there's such a high chance that Words are exchanged between them when link leaves them be because we've seen their relationship. we know how harth cares for tulin, we know tulin is loved for more than what he can do and looked out for. now juxtapose that with revali, thrown out of his own tornado, alone in that moment where he picks himself up as well — but way less likely to have anyone say anything about his wing injuries or to even let someone think he has them. [spontaneously combusts]
i would say more on this and why the sages of totk in general act well as foils to the champions of botw, particularly regarding themes, but that really does feel like a post for another time sdflkjd and it is tragic! it is very tragic! revali was doomed by the narrative in more ways than one :')
I remember the diary where he speaks how the town began praising him for his achievements- that type of validation can be good but to an extreme and left unchecked, it can spiral someone into depending of it. And yet at the end of that diary... he still spoke how he need to continue perfecting himself. Something that AoC made me think in more depth was how almost everyone was "chosen" by destiny (or have a unique ability) and carried a title. But when I look at Revali he seems somehow an abstract to them. Even though in his diary such things were not something he cared for- he mostly valued folks by their responses and actions. (Note: Found cute how he appreciated the scarf and gave one to his bow... It really meant a lot to him// Also I do think Revali appreciated all the Champions including Zelda & Link).
YEAH. YEP. and the way he at first speaks about it, how he contradicts himself in tone despite trying to sound so self-assured — "as one would expect" VS the "i...could get used to this." that follows in the same entry — that's the attention and glory he's always wanted! now he's gonna affix it to the meaning of loving and being loved. which he's also going to attach to his abilities and what he can offer, which is deeply connected to his perceived self-worth. and he's going to make sure he'll never run out of ( tbf real and well-earned ) confidence in that self-worth by constantly pushing himself to greater, more impossible heights. i'm going to put this bird in a washing machine.
he's literally just a guy!! it's one of my favourite things about him, he's Just Some Guy in the group of people who were born into wealth; powers; blessings; respect. they all had their trials, but he earned his place among them from the comparative nothing he started out with and he's justifiably proud of this!
i do think he's also insecure about it at first, tbh ( which he reacts to by laying on the conceit even thicker ), even though his belief in hard work being a supreme indicator of one's "true strength" isn't actually shaken. he is genuinely like i more than deserve to be here but he's also like. and there's nothing you can do about it. don't you forget it. don't you forget it. don't you ever forget it. i wouldn't say it mellows out, but the more he gets to see the champions in action ( thus confirming that they are on his level — that he's fit to make a constellation amongst these that've already been mapped ), the less inclined he feels to explicitly remind them.
and oh my god. the things i could say about what the blue scarf likely means to him. it was handcrafted by zelda, hyrule's princess, for him specifically. it's part of a matching set with other big powers of hyrule. titles and uniform do nothing for him, he claims, but isn't this like being told you are one of us? that you have much to offer? it's "meaningless pomp", he says.
it's also still a gift.
the cloth he ties to his bow is the same shade of blue. i should really make another study post speaking about this more in depth, but i've always interpreted it to be a memento the same way teba and saki's feathers on tulin's quiver are! in tulin's time, this might mean, "these people are always with me." in revali's time, on the brink of a calamity, i imagine it might mean, "( if i fall, you who finds me, ) i belonged with these people."
And yet when Teba & Tulin show up- there is this subtle change on him(?) I wished the game had dwelled a bit more on Teba and Revali. Seeing their interactions was always interesting and in a way, Teba seemed to understand the rito champion. While I felt Teba was that friend or even family member(?) that Revali needed in a way or I could be just over reading, ahaha sorry. But sincerely, I always felt Teba & Tulin were that family or friends- that in a way Revali needed and it makes me think so hard on the "What ifs" and "What could have been"...
what i wouldn't have given for more content and interactions between these three as well!! it's especially fascinating to think about it from teba's side — there is so much recontextualising he has to do and does do about revali, because the one he's grown up idolising and hearing Songs about is uh. well, he's certainly there in the revali he meets, but i doubt he's really prepared for things like how painfully young he is.
he handles it very well honestly asfklsdjg i would not have taken to the realisation that my champion is a warrior hardened only by constant work and the battles he throws himself into, and kind of a fucking brat because he's like the 18yo who thinks being 18 is a decade away from being 17, and died distressingly young back in my timeline with the same grace he gives when he says — of the entire wild experience that is aoc — "this has been enlightening".
you are not over-reading, do not be sorry fr!! i do think revali found an opportunity for companionship in teba that he couldn't find anywhere else when he's built relationships and dynamics he can't change because he has an image to uphold! teba already comes with a dire respect for revali, the knowledge that his story does not end nicely, AND HE'S AN ACTUAL DAD. that sort of thing can bleed into your behaviour and the way you process things without meaning to asflkdjgs
THE BIGGEST MOOD!! wow i'm so glad writers ( it's me, i'm writers ) can create literally anything they want and so can explore these what ifs and what could have beens and give a resolution to a story cut short. this is what my the champions survive au is all about, i hope to have you stay long enough to see these things come out of it ♡
As for the Flight Range & Saki's dialogue; I've always been emo about the F.Range specially when you walk in and hear his theme playing in this music box style... it's like part of his soul is also there but that flame that burnt passionately has subdued and waits to pass to torch to the next generation. In ToTK it made me cry- specially when Kaneli comments (when you pick the bow, arrows) how they been collecting dust... But on the bright side, made me happy that even with the damages- they still hold dearly to the place and is currently being used as training grounds for flight. Which... is what Revali wanted for his people for them to reach the sky and break the limits (or that how I interpreted it).
AUGH EXACTLY, YOU GET IT!! 😭 he never gave it his name but it'll always be his! it's the most melancholic we ever get to hear his theme, full of the wistful yearning that was definitely present but more muted in its botw version! it's lost potential. an unsaid goodbye. revali's gone. but it's also grounds for hope, a tiptoeing hello: his legacy lives on still! i will always go fucking feral over the music in these games!!
YES!! YEAH!! [HOLDING YOU BY THE SHOULDERS] he calls his journal "the diary of revali, the rito legend" BUT HE DOES NOT. GIVE THE FLIGHT RANGE LITERALLY MADE FOR HIM HIS NAME. because it was never going to be something solely for him. he loves his people, he was never going to stymie their prospects! this loser is so good at making me infuriatingly sad AUGH
Re-reading Saki's dialogue with the context you given me- hit me like a ton of bricks. Because it was a new pov. When I first read her dialogue, I took it more of a "Remembering our Champion- one we couldn't help" rather than "commemoration of what he couldn't do". But I also remembered how contrasting are Teba and Saki; Teba being a warrior with pride, reckless at times - who admired greatly Revali's feats and aspired once to surpass him. Meanwhile Saki is more calm and is concerned with the concept of engaging battle- nervous about the training her son was exposed to. So, when re-reading her dialogue I take it more of a wife and mother concerned of losing her companion/husband and son to a similar fate to Revali's.
i swear we are on the same wavelength. yes, exactly!
another thing about revali's landing that makes me so, so deliriously emo — it's a physical permanency given without request: in the best way they can afford to grant it. the rito notably have very little tangible representations of themselves. they don't have statues or effigies like the zora or gorons ( and why would they, when they have Songs and the Windlines and are also probably restricted by their morphology ), and revali does not have any family to be likened to. link remembers him through seeing the landing, which was there, a part of rito village, before it was ever deemed revali's. it wasn't made for him. but they gave it to him! and i'm!! [BLUBBERING]
Revali's love for his people and Rito Village- it breaks me. I can understand that sentiment of loving someone or something from a far (?) - Even when challenging W.Blight and listening to his lines (both english and spanish for me), one can hear that hidden sadness. It's hearing someone who wants to go back home. "But even so, it will always be my home." - the entirety of those lines really hit me so hard the first time I've heard them.
I KNOW. I KNOW. [head in hands] a century has passed and he can't fathom it. "there's no one left who would even know me." he sounds so struck by it, in both the original jpn and english audio, i want to wrap him up in a blanket and toast him like a marshmallow! how much of that is grief? how much of that is longing? how much of that is some strange solace, in knowing he's alone but there's nothing he could've done about it this time?
Also, it makes me glad seeing a Tulin who can see the good in Revali- even if the champion can have a bit of a thorn like exterior. I've read some of the threads! They been wonderful and brought me a lot of joy. It makes me happy to see Tulin taking flight and moving forward. When you mention your student-disciple, are you referring to Kido? I know there were two names but I've lost the post with the cups. I would love to hear about them all!
thank you!! it heartens me to know that you've dipped into some of my ic writing too! i hope you'll continue to enjoy your stay here!! ♡♡
SLFKJKSDLG SO I'VE CHANGED IT IN THE POST NOW, but i meant master-disciple! apologies for the confusion!! kido is an original character of mine who would actually rather fall into totori lake than be revali's student alfjsdkg but that's how it be when you're a kid with a complex, turned-less-than-pleasant background with the concept of revali. if you're interested and up for it, please do give his dossier and study tag a peek! this is by no means a request that you do; it's totally fine if you leave him be!
There so many questions and facts, I would love to talk about... but as I scrolled up- I noticed this is becoming a long one. I am so sorry. I'd been trying to simplify and cut a bit ;-; Plus, I know this blog is a multiverse but focused on Tulin and I don't want to bother. So once again, thank you so much for taking your time in answering these asks. If anything if you ever do the academic-paper length study on lonely birb, I'll run over to read it X'D !!! But I'd been enjoying everything of the meta- the studies on rito's culture and behaviour. Also been curious on your views on Kass taking the role of a bard... Yeah, looking forward to keep reading. Thank you once again.
please, never be sorry for giving me your thoughts, no matter how long they end up being!! i mean it! i enjoyed reading through every line, it means a lot to me that you'd take the time and energy to send something of this scale to me ♡ you did not bother and will not bother, i promise! any of my muses are up for discussion, and so are their people in general! i have an itch to talk about these birds at all times, lurkers like you give me a great scratch ♡
one more time, thank you for your kind words!! i'm so happy to know that my thoughts are received this well!!
KASS MY BELOVED. i'm not sure if you've seen my study on what Songs, Songkeepers, and Scriptweavers are, but if you have, then here's some paraphrased disco ramblings on my Thoughts on him! with how important a role he played in keeping and invoking memories of the champions in botw's dlc, i'm of the belief that he's rito village's primary Songkeeper! ahaha, on this note ( and this is more of a fun roleplaying easter egg than anything ): my botw verse is named Song of the Reclamation — i keep the headcanon that kass, specifically, writes this Song after the game's events tucked away with other misc. details that inform how i run things here :)
this is already long enough, so i think i'll end it here asfljkd but feel free to bounce your thoughts off me anytime! this has been an absolute pleasure, looking forward to seeing you in the inbox again whenever you drop by! thank you!! ♡

Kind-of semi-related to the other ask about botw link in aoc/pre-calamity: imagine the lu chain in pre-calamity hyrule
The champions/Zelda meeting wild, seeing his scars and how much he’s changed and not understanding how this could be the same boy as the silent knight they know. If it’s before Zelda starts liking link, this could get her to start to see him in a brand new light. I also think itd be interesting to see the reactions of the champions that know him a bit better. Would they be relieved that he’s allowing himself to be himself, or sad that it took so much suffering to get to that point? Maybe a bit of both? Not to mention the angst around wild knowing they’re all going to die…
Pre-calamity link meeting his future self, too! I think he wouldn’t be sure what to think of wild. Like would he even recognize this person as himself? He might be a bit horrified to see him act so casual around the princess, or be so reckless when fighting monsters or breaking weapons (the boy’s a knight, he definitely knows how to take care of his swords) He would probably be terrified of whatever caused such serious scars, but of course he can’t show it or talk to anyone about it because he needs to be the stoic, brave Hero (especially in front of all these other heros, despite the fact that they already love wild as he is)
And on the flip side, the chain getting to see how completely different wild was before he lost his memories would be fascinating. Some of the younger ones like wind might not understand how wild could ever be so quiet and withdrawn, where the more experienced ones like legend or time would understand. Twilight especially would probably be heartbroken to see him so unhappy </3
Ok ramble over, thanks for listening lol
the concept of Wild meeting his past self is an interesting one all around tbh, and adding the rest of the chain sure adds an extra layer to it all that's 👌
also im also legally required to recommend A Change In Fate by @attllhak if you like this "LU Chain in pre-calamity Hyrule" idea because the plot of the fic is basically that <3 just in AOC

which loz character would be most likely to have an anxiety disorder, in your opinion?? I need to know who to project my /own/ anxiety disorder on to lol
Link. Look what you did Hylia, you took a perfectly good hero and now look at him, he's got anxiety.
I feel like I could come up with a l o n g list of characters that have anxiety so because I'm bored and you opened this can of worms I'm going to give you my in depth who-in-Zelda-has-anxiety list. So you have options.
Sky Link had ADHD induced depressanxiety. He's too tired to do his homework but he's going to WORRY about it. All the time.
Sky Zelda also has anxiety but it's more about others. She knows what she's doing and has everything under control but when things don't go to plan and people don't do what she thinks they should she gets upset. It comes from the Hylia thing. I think Zelda's borders on OCD
Idk why Revali has anxiety vibes. He might not seem like it but he does to me. Mipha doesn't have anxiety she just worries. Sidon also just worries, not an actual anxiety disorder.
Beedle has anxiety vibes
BOTW Link pre-calamity probably has anxiety but that likely comes from having other mental issues (who tbh I think is different from AOC Link, AOC Link is no thoughts head empty in a bad way and doesn't have the master sword at 12 so he doesn't have the same issues!!)
PAYA omg Paya has BAD social anxiety disorder
I'm sure there are others but these stand out to me

idk if ur doing any more of the hcs but fi ghirhim swap, u can inclued zelda being the hylain champion and link having the sealing powers if u want or ur take on a fix-it all au? what would u change and what would u keep?
I am still doing more! And I’d be happy to share some more heacanons on topics! Unfortunately, while I know SS lore...it’s all seconhand information and stuff I've read on the wiki. I haven’t actually played SS and haven’t picked up the HD version yet. Maybe this is something I can revisit, but I don’t know enough about Ghirahim or Fi, both attitude and actions without either watching a full playthrough or doing it myself, to give my own headcanons on a Fi and Ghirahim swap.
A fix-it AU I can totally do though. I am going to assume you mean BoTW and AoC. I find AoC’s story to be quite good, and while time travel can sometimes be an easy crutch, I think it works in AoC’s case, so I am going to leave AoC alone. Nothing there other than a few minor things I would change. BoTW though? Totally have ideas. I have a few, some revolving around pre-calamity, some around post. I am going to go with pre-calamity for this answer!
BoTW Fix It All AU. (Not going to be fix it all as yeah….some bad stuff still happens)
Mipha is allowed to finish what she said. That she thinks about Link. There are two ways she could have finished her sentence. “About those I love.” or “About Link.”. I feel it was the latter, as she was quite embarrassed to say it. This causes Zelda to come to terms with her growing attraction to Link and having to face the music. She loves Link. (platonically or romantically, whatever boats your float). It’s an epiphany, a sudden realization that shakes her all the way to her soul. This unlocks her powers.
With her powers unlocked, The Calamity is hastened. It can’t wait around anymore, it can’t wait for the Champions to enter their Divine Beasts. It has sensed Hylia’s powers manifesting and must act NOW. It seizes the Divine beasts immediately and begins to use them to wreak havoc. Though messy and sluggish, it tries to use the Blights to control the Beasts to everyone’s location.
The Champions all feel their Divine Beasts being seized. There is no subtlety on Ganon’s part. To them, it feels like a part of their soul has been ripped from them. It leaves them weakened and in pain. But they know what just happened. So the party is left with a choice, take back the Divine Beasts, or use their combined prowess to try to defeat Ganon. After much deliberation, the latter is chosen. They just don’t know what they are up against, what awaits them inside. Between that and their knowledge on the capabilities of their Beasts....without help, they know can’t do it on their own.
It’s not an easy fight to Ganon. Guardians assail them at every turn. But they push on, through injury and fatigue. For they are racing against time. Sure, Hyrule is burning down all around them, but if the Divine Beasts make it to them? All hope would be lost.
They barely make it in time. The fight is hard. Ganon re-summons his Blights, much in the same way the fight happens without freeing the Beasts. Each Champion takes on a different blight than the one sent to kill them. Revali fights Waterblight. Daruk fights Thunderblight. Mipha fights Fireblight. Urbosa takes on Windblight. All this while Link is trying his best to defeat Ganon. After the blights are defeated and Ganon is slain, Dark Beast Ganon is formed. And with their combined might supporting Link and Zelda, Ganon is sealed away.
Castle Town is destroyed. Barely anyone is able to escape. Rhoam is slain, alongside 80% of the population. The Hylian Army put up a valiant fight, but in the end, did everything they could just to buy time for folks to escape. Other regions suffered as well with the control of the Divine Beasts and Guardians.
Parts of the Domain are destroyed from Ruta’s rampage to Central Hyrule. Same with Goron City. In Rito Village, many homes are blown away, but the primary structure of rock where the village perched remains intact. Gerudo town suffers the least damage but is cut off from the rest of Hyrule for months, as the Gerudo Canyon suffers a major rockslide from Nabooris rampage.
The recovery effort is long and arduous, but they all manage to do so, with each race lending a hand where they can.
Yes, it ends in eventual Miphlink, cause god damn it, I am forever stuck Miphlink Hell.

My Only Wish (Naughty or Nice)
The fifth prompt in 12 Days of Christmas by @zelink-prompts
Prompt List
Cover Art: coming soon!
Words: 2087
Summary: Zelda reads about a foreign holiday called Christmas and decides to bring to life one of the traditions for the other Champions. She’ll need a red suit and a bag of gifts, but luckily she knows just the person to pull off the holly, jolly Santa Claus.
BotW Pre-Calamity Zelink, not AoC related!
Zelink-mas 2020  l  Masterlist
Link was beginning to wonder if the pressure was getting to the princess. She was always pushing forwards in the face of adversity, but it wasn’t her frustration and sadness that made him believe she’d finally cracked.
It was when they took up residence in her study and she whirled on him with a book in her hands about goddesses only knew what.
“I’ve conducted some research,” she began, which was not new to him but filled him with a sense of playful dread anyway, “regarding Hylia’s Day and other holidays we celebrate here in Hyrule. We know that culture and religion are the basis of all holidays, and the difference in what is celebrated and how stems from those traditions. I was curious about the world outside of Hyrule. I thought perhaps I could read something about their beliefs and traditions that could help me awaken my power, but I found a celebration that’s incredibly similar to ours.”
She dropped the book on her desk and cracked it open, beckoning for him to join her. He stepped over, standing close enough so that when he leaned forwards to join her over the pages of the book, he could smell the flowery scent of her hair.
He couldn’t read anything on the page. Not when his attention was taken up entirely by her. So he listened to her speak again, following her fingers dancing along the page.
“A religion referred to as Christianity celebrates something called Christmas. For worshipers of the faith, this day is celebrated as the birth of their savior. But the holiday became something widely celebrated by people not of that faith. It became a day of giving gifts and spending time with family. People decorate with trees and lights and hold grand parties. And just like how Hylia brings joy and peace to families on Hylia’s Eve, they too have a figure that travels to every corner of the world, leaving gifts for the children! Multiple sources have claimed that this figure keeps a list sorting the children into categories—meaning whether or not they’ve been naughty in the past year, or nice. Naughty children are given coal, which is quite funny really. He goes by quite a bit of names, too. Father Christmas, Santa Claus, Kris Kringle, Saint Nicholas—but they’re essentially talking about the same figure.”
“There’s a lot of similarities,” Link agreed, glancing in her direction.
“I know what you’re thinking. What does any of this have to do with the sealing power?” Her cheeks flushed, the pink tint reaching to the tips of her ears. “Well, ah… it doesn’t. But Hylia’s Day is coming up and… and everyone’s been so down and patience is wearing thin and I thought perhaps we could do something to cheer everyone up.”
He wasn’t sure what sort of unseen force compelled him to obey the princess. Yet he couldn’t even bring himself to think that the scheme she’d come up with was absurd. He’d follow her to the ends of Hyrule should she ask him to.
It was why he wasn’t exactly surprised to find himself accompanying Zelda and a holly, jolly Daruk across Hyrule. Though he couldn’t believe the princess had actually crafted the entirety of Father Christmas’s red outfit.
“This Sandy Claws really doesn’t know fashion,” the Goron said, adjusting the hat upon his head. “The less restrictive the clothing, the better for movement.”
“You play the part very well,” Zelda assured, patting the towering boulder on the arm. “Besides, I read that he’s quite the eater. Children leave out cookies and milk for him, so perhaps you’ll get lucky tonight.”
“If the cookies are prime, crunchy rock, then I can hardly resist. Right, brother?”
Daruk slapped him on his back, sending Link tumbling forwards. Zelda’s arms caught him, and he was quick to regain his balance with the feeling that the Goron did that on purpose.
“Besides, we’re really only visiting the other Champions. I wish we could do more, but we’re lacking the magical sleigh that can travel at the speed of light,” Zelda spoke again, tapping away at the Sheikah Slate.
“Santa leaving Santa a gift, huh?”
“Oh, Link already took care of that. You’re not allowed to open it until the morning.”
Daruk turned to look at him, surprised. Link only shrugged with a small, only slightly smug smile.
“I’m sneaky,” he said. The Goron laughed and Link took a step closer to Zelda to prevent being slapped on the back and sent tumbling off of Death Mountain.
“So what did you deem me?” Daruk asked, his hands resting on his hips to Link’s utter relief.
“Nice, of course,” Zelda replied with a pat to his arm. “I can’t think of anyone who might be classified as naughty.”
Link could think of one.
But he didn’t voice his opinion and instead shrugged in agreement, and the three of them were off to Zora’s Domain. He had to admit wearing the green of the mythical Santa’s Elves was an experience—he felt a sort of respect for the color. But it was nothing compared to how Zelda looked in her costume. She’d really gone all out for this, with a green little hat and all. It was cute, and admirable really, that she was willing to go so far to spread happiness.
Happiness they desperately needed right now, with the Calamity looming ever above their heads and constricting them like a snake.
Anyway.
He supposed it would’ve been hard for anyone not to react upon seeing three oddly dressed individuals, Zora guardsmen included. But all the Princess of Hyrule had to do was smile and they let it go without question.
“What’s your ruling on Mipha, Father Christmas?” Zelda asked, lifting the Sheikah Slate.
“Nice,” Daruk decided, rather unsurprisingly. But Link nodded in agreement.
“Sidon too. Can’t leave something for Mipha and not her little brother,” he pointed out.
“I’m hurt you think I hadn’t considered that,” replied Zelda with a satisfied smile. “Alright, each package is specifically wrapped. Mipha gets the red box with the blue bow, and Sidon is the blue box with the red bow.”
Daruk swung the red sack from his shoulder and rummaged through it.
“You might have to do this one, tiny princess. Not sure how the big guy does it without waking anyone.”
“Oh, I’m sure you’re more than capable! We’ll be right there with you,” Zelda encouraged, pulling something from the Sheikah Slate. “But if you feel you need it, I made an elixir that increases stealth.”
“What would we do without you?”
The trip into Zora’s domain was relatively short after that. Zelda slipped into Mipha’s room to deliver the gift while Daruk and Link took care of Sidon, and she was pleased to know it’d been successful. Then, they were on their way to Gerudo for the next Champion.
“Urbosa was incredibly hard to gift,” the princess said, thinking aloud. But Link was listening anyway, glancing over to her incase she decided to continue.
“What did you end up getting her?” Daruk asked as he paused to rummage through the sack of presents.
“Something of my mother’s,” Zelda replied simply, eyeing the small, wrapped box. “I think she would treasure it.”
A tiny smile graced her lips and Link felt his fingers twitch with the urge to take her hand. But she didn’t look sad. If anything, she looked comforted.
“You should deliver this one, Princess. I mean, Santa or not, Link and I can’t get into town,” Daruk pointed out.
“I’ll be quick,” she promised before disappearing behind the walls of Gerudo Town. And while he knew she was safe there, he always felt an anxiety he couldn’t place.
“She’s real spirited,” said Daruk, nearly knocking Link over with his nudge. “It’s mighty kind of her to want to do this for us.”
“She wants to spread happiness,” he replied with a small shrug.
“And is it working?” the Goron asked. Link didn’t answer, but he made a point to not look at Daruk and instead kept his gaze on the arching entrance to the town. A few minutes later, Zelda came back out and the group made their way to Hebra.
“Revali,” Zelda spoke, tapping at the slate. “What’s your ruling?”
“Naughty,” Link replied, without missing a beat. The Princess stared at him for a moment, then pressed a hand to her mouth to muffle her laughter.
“I don’t want to agree, but..” Daruk said, scratching his beard, “he did call me an ‘oversized pebble’.”
“Revali’s just..”
“Mean,” Link input, cutting Zelda off without really intending to.
“I was going to say young.”
“Well, so are you and the little guy here!” Daruk argued.
“Revali is a strong personality, and the Rito are a proud people,” Zelda stated, crossing her arms over her chest. “It would be rather rude to gift everyone but him.”
“I thought Santa’s whole thing was rewarding the good and punishing the bad,” said Daruk.
“Yes, but Revali isn’t bad, per say. Besides, we didn’t bring any coal.”
“I live on a volcano.”
“..Daruk.. tell me you did not pack coal.”
“That would be a lie, tiny princess.”
It was Link’s turn to fight back a laugh this time, biting the inside of his cheeks to keep it contained.
“Well, I can’t exactly stop you. But be sure to leave the real present too!”
But Daruk had disappeared into Rito Village, leaving the elf-dressed duo behind.
“I still think Revali would be on the naughty list,” Link said with a shrug. Zelda gave him a playful shove.
“Be nice,” she reprimanded, shaking her head.
“Do you think it’s possible for Revali to be nice?”
“I— I refuse to speak ill about any of my Champions,” but she was smiling through her words and that was enough of an agreement for Link. “I do hope Daruk hurries. I’m not sure how long the stealth elixir will last.”
“I’m sure that would make for an interesting sight to wake up to.”
To that, she laughed. Maybe the best part of the night was getting to spend time with her outside of Calamity related business. It almost felt like they were friends.
And then Daruk was back, and the group got ready to part ways.
“Thank you, Daruk. It was fun,” Zelda spoke, setting a hand on his arm.
“The fun’s not done just yet, tiny princess. I’ve got two more on the nice list to gift.” The Goron pulled two more wrapped gifts from his bag, handed one to each of them, then set off for Death Mountain with a wink.
Link looked at the gift in his hands, something a little heavy with a beautiful wrapping job that could only have been done by nimble fingers. He glanced up at Zelda, who seemed just as surprised.
Well, it seemed he wasn’t the only one who snuck something into the bag.
“Um,” she spoke, fiddling with her unopened gift. “I just.. it’s nothing big, but I.. I thought you’d enjoy it and you’re a Champion as well..”
Oh, it was a cue. Link nodded once, then carefully unwrapped the rectangular object. What remained in his hands was a book, and a fairly thick one at that.
“I had to beg every chef I know to get the recipes,” Zelda said again, taking a slight step forward. “It contains food from Faron to Goron City, as much as I could find. I also threw in some older recipes I found in cookbooks in the library, but I’m not sure how good any of them are.”
“I.. thank you,” Link replied, because there was really nothing he could say. He looked up at Zelda and offered a small smile, even if it wouldn’t be enough.
She ducked her head and started to open her own gift. As soon as the treat was revealed, he found it was his turn to nervously explain.
“I heard it’s your favorite. I, uh, scribbled down a recipe I found, so if it’s not good..”
But she was smiling at him, and his words died on his tongue.
“My mother used to make a fruitcake every Hylia’s Day,” she said, and before he could give an apology or say anything else, she was hugging him. “Thank you.”
When Link returned to his quarters for the rest of the night away, he fell asleep with one thought in his head.
One day, he would love to cook every recipe in that book for the Princess.

So i guess i just “finished” age of calamity but there are still incomplete side quests. I cant say if u should get it or not so PLEASE dont ask that cuz I DONT KNOW. I honestly cant say if u will like it. But if anyone wants to know what i think of it subjectively go ahead and click on the read more. Warning: spoilers 🤷‍♂️
Its extremely vanilla I’ll admit that straight away. Painfully vanilla. Its a fairytale what if scenario of what could have happened if things went the way the champions had hoped. Everyone survives and more. Ive seen people spew and fume at that but honestly if its just a pretty scenario I don’t hate it and it feels like what i need right now. If i want a fairy tale apocalypse I can go and play botw or something else. This is a what if alternate universe and it made me cry like a bitch
Its not a ground breaking storyline (neither is botw lol) but ive found myself not giving a shit cuz of how much fun ive had (and still having). The combat is batshit, the character selection is on crack, and ive always wanted to play as urbosa and zelda so fuck off. I’m having immense fun. Also the pre calamity hyrule is so beautiful how can i get bored??? I mean its pretty sad that everything is timed so i cant just spend an hour taking screenshots but thats what replaying scenarios is for
There are some weird inconsistencies that i dont quite understand tho. Like how can kohga be alive and be presumably the same age as he is in botw? Am i missing something? There is also something weird about how the bond between zelda and link formed. There is nothing in the events of hw:aoc that should have affected how it was portrayed in botw. Allow me to explain: in botw link already has the master sword and zelda is quite cold and formal with him; she tells him to fuck off basically and that she doesnt need his help. However in hw:aoc before he even gets the sword they are already decent friends and zelda is nice to link. ??????? There are probably more but i cant remember
Other things that I think could have been improved on: more about the champions. I thought they would be given more cut scenes with backgrounds but there is barely anything. Also. If they were gonna give ganon a new form and a new follower (the seer) why not give ganon more identity and functionality besides just being the voiceless big bad at the end (but hey maybe thats left for botw2)
Anyway. Seeing the new and old champions interact was amazing but also chilling. Seeing Sidon meet mipha made me Weep. And then getting the opportunity to save the champions was just—— it was an experience and i loved it. Getting them all to fight together in different combinations is truly the most fun thing. Also the little snippets of interactions when completing side quests for npcs and such is fucking hysterical. What made me happy most of all is that this particular story is not link’s. It’s actually about zelda. Yes link is the hero and he gets some of the cut scenes but honestly this is about zelda and she gets the journey she needed
I dunno how soon will i replay it after completing every single side quest i can trigger. Playing the game is really harsh on the eyes and i kept taking long breaks tho to be fair i did play for several days straight. Some champions are really hard to control and they make the screen just glitch and flash and it made me really nauseas but since they are only side characters it was fine
If u dont like button mashing and intense, demanding combat please dont get this. Watch the cut scenes on YouTube. If u love insane stupid combat and u can ignore a vanilla plot, maybe consider it? I dont know what my preference is but ive enjoyed (and still enjoying) hw;aoc a lot and i dont regret buying it one bit. I need some easy on the brain vanilla and silly button mashing and it hit the spot
