there's a lightness in him
summary: finally, the day has come where you get the chance to meet gojo. but megumi doesn't handle it as well as you had hoped
[ loner!megumi x popular!reader ]
cw: college au, modern au, f!reader, fluff, gojo cameo, some angst, aged up characters, no use of y/n
word count: 2.9k
You really wanted to meet Gojo.
For reasons unknown to you, Megumi became even more quiet than usual whenever he was brought up â nearly blatantly refusing to talk about him at all.
Your curiosity was obviously peaked â who was this mysterious individual, who through unfortunate circumstances had ended up basically raising what had turned out to be your perfect boyfriend? Was this where Megumi had gotten his closed off demeanour from? Were shared dinners around the dining table spent in utter silence?
The few things you had gathered about Gojo: he was NOT Megumiâs dad. That was the most important thing youâd learned. Because how dumb were you when you simply assumed the adult man he lived with was his father?
You had also learned that there was a new level to Megumiâs frown that always grew deeper whenever he talked to Gojo on the phone. Granted, he was never happy whenever he was on the phone, but it was something entirely different when he talked to his⊠guardian?
âWhat do you mean you havenât met his family?!â Kasumi exclaimed in pure disbelief once you told her, head tilting up from her doomscrolling.
âAs far as I understand, there isnât much family to meet. Itâs mostly just this Gojo figure.â
âAnd thatâs his dad?â
âGod no, heâll bite your head off if you assume so, but whoever he is, heâs the closest thing he has to a parental figure.â
She tried to blink away the worst of her surprise. âBut youâve been together since high school.â It seemed like she wanted the statement to be a question, but it definitely came out more as a judgemental remark.
âLook, his family situation isnât ideal,â you trailed off, thinking about the few things he had actually opened up to you about â both his sister and his absent father, and you had quickly understood family was a fragile topic for him. So whenever you dared approach the situation about Gojo, you just wanted to be cautious in case there was anything serious he just did not want to talk about.
However, lately, the idea of anything seriously worrisome being the issue had slowly ceased to exist. Megumi genuinely only seemed to be annoyed with whatever it was Gojo said or did â nothing graver than that.
âDoes that mean youâve never been to his house?â Yet another shocked question fired at you.
âNo, Iâve been to his house plenty of times,â you chuckled. âIt just so happens that Gojo is never home. Heâs apparently sent out of town a lot for work.â
She quirked an eyebrow, shaking her head and turning her attention back to her phone. âYour boyfriend is kind of a weirdo, not gonna lie.â
A small, smitten smile automatically grew on your lips. âYeah, I guess he is,â you said, probably mostly to yourself.
âI have to go now.â
âWhat, already?â You whined, bottom lip sticking out in a dramatic pout as Megumi got up from his seat beside you. He met your pleading gaze, leaning forward to capture your lips in a tender kiss to ease his departure.
âItâs probably gonna take a while today,â he sighed, walking over to the door. Before his hand had even managed to clasp around the handle, you were already at his side, staring at him with doe eyes while your arms were tucked behind your back â like you always did when you wanted something.
âThen why donât I come along?â batting your eyelashes at him.
Whatever your ulterior motive was, he was weak for the look you gave him â sucking in his cheeks to smother the smirk you were slowly pulling from him.
âYou wanna come along?â
âI wanna be with you as much as possible!â
âYou gonna help with errands, too?â
Your innocent smile was pushed into pursed lips instead. âI can watch?â
He instantly let out a taunting scoff. âCute,â he sighed, placing a quick kiss on your cheek and opening the door to leave. Before he got too far, you already grabbed ahold of his wrist.
âSo, youâre going home for these errands, right?â
And once you said âhomeâ, Megumi immediately understood why you had suddenly decided to be so persistent in tagging along for his duties, when you always preferred he just get it over with so he could return to you once he was done.
And his body slowly started to tense up, because unlike you, Megumi really did not want you to meet Gojo.
Why? Well, Megumi could list hundreds of reasons why he wanted to shield you from the menace he had lived with most his life. But he knew those reasons were all superficial, and he never really dared put into words what really plagued him about the situation.
âMegumi,â you spoke his name softly, slowly letting go of his wrist. âI want to meet your family.â
There it was again, your genuine interest in him â somehow always catching him off guard despite you proving it to him from the very first moment. He just didnât feel deserving of it.
It was written all over your features just how important this was to you â guilt striking him as he couldnât understand why he had been so selfish as to deprive you of meeting his family, when he had no real reason to.
But what wasnât he willing to do for you? With a clear of his throat, he tried to set aside his ever present anxiety about the situation, grumbling a low âfineâ as he pulled out his phone to send a quick heads up to Gojo.
âWait, really?â The fragile sentiment in your voice was replaced by an airy relief, not quite expecting him to surrender so easily â especially considering how long youâd bothered him about it all.
âHas to happen eventually, right? Might as well get it over with.â
The nonchalant shrug of his shoulders and the look in his eyes was all it took for you to feel your stomach tickle with butterflies â you saw he was trying to power through his stubbornness for you. He wasn't going to let his own struggles triumph how important this was for you.
âYouâre just so-â endless giddiness spilling over in your expression, unable to finish your sentence. You cupped his face and placed the sweetest kiss on his cheek, before you rather abruptly interrupted your own actions by yanking him after you towards his car.
For the entirety of the ride, you held a mostly one sided conversation, hoping your casual talk would calm him down â but it didnât stop his knuckles from slowly turning paler when his fingers gnawed at the steering wheel, hoping you didnât catch how his teeth were grinding against each other.
But he wanted to try â for you.
Pulling into the driveway, surrounded by the familiar scenery of the neighbourhood he grew up in, none of his nerves seemed to disintegrate. Even when he opened the door for you (like he always did) and you laced your fingers with his, the nerves remained knotted inside him.
âIf you really donât want to do this-â
âNo, âs fine,â he interrupted you softly, reactively squeezing your hand to ground himself. âLetâs just get-â
A blaring voice shouting your name cut through the sad tension, both you and Megumi jumping at the sudden outburst.
Capturing your wide eyed glare, you were met with a freakishly tall man staring directly at you with the most intense blue-eyed stare one could imagine and untamed hair of the purest white â and lastly, a somewhat off putting grin that was overflowing with outgoing charm.
This was Gojo? The Gojo? The very same who had raised your stoic and quiet boyfriend? The one who seemed to have too much pent up energy in his body, despite the size of it? This was not at all what you had expected.
You were about to take a polite bow to introduce yourself, but Gojo simply waved his hand. âNo need for formalities. Feel like I know you already.â His smile never wavered, even when he took a step back to let you in.
Megumi was already grumbling to himself, unable to stop how his fingers clenched harder on your hand as a reaction to Gojoâs first appearance â and heat was rising up his neck, slowly colouring the tips of his ears red with embarrassment.
âSo glad you finally managed to convince him,â Gojo nearly sung, leading all three of you into the kitchen. âIâve tried desperately since that day he first visited you. But Megumi never listens to me.â
He was so far from the character you had created in your mind, taking some time let the new impression replace the old one. He leaned so casually against the kitchen counter, while Megumi acted on instinct and pulled out the stool for you, taking a seat next to you.
âI couldnât quite believe my eyes when he came back home that evening, and he smiled. You know how hard I try to make him smile?â
âOh, itâs not so hard,â you laughed along, turning to look at your boyfriend only to see he was looking at Gojo with chronically furrowed eyebrows. The lump in your stomach formed immediately, hating just how displeased Megumi appeared to be â reaching out to grab his hand under the table, head turning to look at you, smoothing the crinkles on his forehead. You started to believe he wasnât even aware of the way he was looking at Gojo, because all evidence of annoyance was gone when he shifted his eyes towards you. âHe smiles plenty.â
âHmpf,â Gojo pouted, arms crossing loosely over his chest. âWell, maybe you just share the same bad sense of humor.â The comment caught you a little by surprise before the genuine laugh slipped past your lips, while Megumi went back to shooting him an ugly scowl.
âIâve been wanting to meet you too for a while.â
âIs that so?â His tone sounded accusatory as he met Megumiâs eyes. It didnât take a genius to understand the subtext that Megumi had served him excuse after excuse on why heâd never introduced you.
âYes, but my schedule is crazy busy,â the lie rolling of your tongue so easily, Megumi almost believing it himself. âSomething always came up whenever we tried to make it happen.â It was a small gesture, yet Megumiâs heart fluttered lightly at how you tried to make this as comfortable as possible for him.
âIïżœïżœm very pleased you finally got the time,â he beamed, seemingly buying into the lie.
And then the conversation flowed as smoothly as butter. He asked questions about your studies and your family, showing a real interest in your life. And he was funny â the clutching-your-stomach type of funny. You didnât even notice when Kuro and Shiro walked into the kitchen, Shiro lightly nudging your hand for pets before both of the dogs laid down by Megumiâs feet.
But the conversation consisted mostly of your and Gojoâs voice, Megumi only contributing with a weak âhmâ or âsureâ whenever fitting, which definitely put a thorn in the atmosphere of the company.
âHow about we get around to those errands?â You suggested, bringing an end to the constant rambling you knew Megumi had probably prayed would stop.
âYeah, we probably should,â he mumbled lowly, quickly jumping out of the seat he had been glued to since you arrived. âI just have to get something upstairs-â
âJust go,â you giggled, knowing he was about to ask if you were alright with being left alone for a second.
Megumi hurried away, leaving you and Gojo alone. It didnât take long before he broke the silence again.
âHeâs not usually this cold towards me.â His tone had completely changed, now full of sentiment, one you could only assume came from genuine love for Megumi. âIt doesnât look like it, but Iâm sure he secretly likes me. The death glares are at least kept to a minimum when itâs just the two of us.â
âHe has a tendency to be a little cranky.â He smiled then, a small and almost shy smile.
âIâm going to make this quick, because heâll be back down any second,â he took a deep breath as he straightened his posture. âAfter you came along⊠Iâve never seen him like this.â Your breath hitched in your throat at the slightly ominous statement. âThereâs a lightness in him Iâve never seen before. You clearly mean a lot to him, which is why he exaggerates his frown. Heâs just being protective.â
With further clarification, your shoulders found rest, starting to shuffle towards the front door, Gojo close behind. âBelieve it or not, he brings me lightness too.â
âNo, I believe it,â he smiled as Megumi came down the stairs, both of his dogs following him. âI see it in you too.â
âReady to go?â Megumi asked in a monotone voice, already having put on his shoes and opened the door.
âIt was nice meeting you, Gojo,â you bowed.
âLooking forward to the next time.â Megumi didnât manage to fully conceal the quiet groan that escaped him, both you and Gojo deciding to not pay it any attention.
âIâll be back in a few days,â Megumi sighed, already halfway down the pathway, simply waving goodbye over his shoulder.
âIâll miss you!â Gojo yelled dramatically after him, your boyfriend never sparing him a second glance. While he opened the car door for you, you decided to pay Gojo the decency of a smile and a tiny wave.
Megumi did not hesitate to start the engine, his childhood home quickly disappearing behind you.
Then silence hit â thick silence, nearly suffocating on all the thoughts you could so clearly tell was swarming Megumiâs mind.
âI like him,â you breathed, leaning back on the headrest.
âYeah? Iâm glad.â
âYou donât sound glad.â
âSorry.â
His eyes were glued ahead, as if there was nothing more interesting than the boring scenery and the asphalt going straight ahead.
âMegumi?â
âHmm?â
âWhy didnât you want me to meet Gojo?â
He didnât answer â he only let out a deep breath through his nose which you suspected had been trapped in his lungs since the moment you first pulled up in his driveway. Then he pulled over, the car slowly rolling to a halt.
Your pulse quickened, eyeing how his hands had left the steering wheel only for him to pick at the skin around his nails â a nervous tick you only saw him do when he was extremely anxious.
âI donât want to mess this up.â
His confession was quiet, and had it not been for the fact that there was not a sound in the car or any distractions outside, you would not have been able to hear it.
âMeeting family⊠it brings expectations. And if I am to mess this up-â
âDonât say that, youâre not going to mess this up!â You cut him off, hands cutting through the air to intertwine your fingers with his, stopping his bad habit.
âYou donât know that.â His voice still came out low, eyes directed at your hands. âAfter last time-â
âStop it,â you interrupted again, bringing one hand to his face to force him to look at you, breaking your heart when his eyes had turned glossy. âWeâre past that now, okay?â
âI know we are, itâs just-â he took another deep breath, âfor some reason, I just felt like that if I kept you from meeting him, I could contain the damage and disappointment if I were to screw it up.â
âI didnât know you felt this way,â you sniffled quietly, fighting not to let the tears take over. âWhy didnât you tell me?â
âI donât know,â he averted his gaze again, back to fixating on his lap. âScared, I suppose.â
âYouâre not in this alone. You can always talk to me about these things, okay?â
âMhmm,â the weak sound was barely heard.
Once again you cupped his face, wanting his eyes on you when you said âIâm on your team, Megumi.â His nostrils flared, not wanting the tears to spill. âPlease just let me be on your team!â
Yet again he took another deep breath to steady himself, slowly beginning to nod along before leaning into your touch. âOkay,â he whispered.
He didnât say it, but you could sense how he had actively reached within himself to fint sparks of confidence to give himself over to your request.
Megumi was just used to doing things on his own, never depending on anyone but himself. And up until he met you, that had worked perfectly fine. But faced with a relationship, he had found himself between a rock and a hard place, where exposing himself emotionally to another human being was necessary for it to work â and you were worth every ounce of dedication. Every other aspect of his life had turned miniscule in comparison to you.
He hadnât exactly made it easy for you to cooperate when it came to his feelings. But that stopped now, fully surrendering to the fragility one could not avoid in a relationship. He knew youâd be there.
âYou want me to drive?â
âNo, itâs fine,â he sighed, the evidence of tears gone as he sat back up in his seat. He removed your hand from his face to place a soft kiss on your knuckles.
âYouâre not still going to run errands, are you?â Your pulse finally started to calm down when you spotted a small smirk lurking at the corner of his lips.
âNot a chance.â
âMy place and order in?â
âSounds perfect.â

Series Synopsis: A series of (mostly) unrelated one shots, featuring Oliver Aiku somehow getting involved with the love lives of various Blue Lock characters â whether he wants to or not.
Chapter Synopsis: Oliver Aiku isnât sure which entity heâs wronged to earn this kind of treatment, but somehow, in the days before the match against Blue Lock, heâs stuck watching over the teamâs newest addition: Sae Itoshi, a rude midfielder whoâd rather be in Spain (or in hell) than hanging out with him. Things get a little more complicated, though, when a cup of shitty coffee leads to a crush and Aiku is forced to intervene.
Series Masterlist
Pairing: Sae x Reader
Chapter Word Count: 7.9k
Content Warnings: crack fic, sae my awkward goat, love at first sight, oliver aiku is such a bitch but heâs funny so itâs kind of okay, reader has to work in customer service đ, this is really dumb please donât judge my writing off of it, sae is 100% ooc donât come at me i KNOWWW, split perspectives (it makes sense in the story), sae slander (from aiku), reader is a fan girl but she keeps it đđđđđđđđđđ, readerâs dad has cameos but heâs just chilling tbh
A/N: the people wanted saeâs version to be posted first so uhhh here we are!! LMAO it kind of got a bit long (as usual) but itâs very silly and goofy!! anyways so this is the first entry in âoliver aikuâs guide to getting girlsâ i hope you all stick around for the rest đ€©âŒïž
Oliver Aiku likes to think heâs a fairly nice guy. He visits his grandmother every weekend, he rescues kittens from gutters (okay, it only happened once, but he still did it, so it counts), and heâs good enough at being captain of the Japanese U-20s that none of his teammates really hate him, so all in all, he canât be doing that bad of a job. Yeah, heâs pretty sure heâs a great person, a stand-up fellow, an upstanding member of society â so why the fuck is Sae Itoshi glaring at him like that?
âWhat?â he says, because it was fine for the first, say, twenty minutes or so, but now itâs gone from annoying to just plain concerning. âSomething going on with you?â
Sae stares at him for a moment longer, and Aiku wonders if heâs trying to communicate via telepathy. Thatâs a skill heâs never picked up, though, so he can only wait for Sae to speak up, which, thankfully, he eventually does.
âThis coffee is shit,â he says. The way he speaks is dull and blank, his lips pinched together and his brows low over his eyes. Itâs kind of a shame, in Aikuâs highly professional opinion. Heâd be handsome if he smiled more; or, if not handsome, at least approachable enough to not scare away every single girl that dared to even glance at him.
âItâs not my fault,â Aiku says. âTake it up with the barista or something.â
âYouâre the one who brought me here, so it is your fault,â Sae says. Aiku crosses his arms, because isnât Sae younger than him? This feels like a level of disrespect he shouldnât tolerate, prodigy or not.
âNuh-uh,â he says. In hindsight, itâs not the most mature response he couldâve come up with, and Sae seems to agree, snorting derisively before using a napkin to dab at a drip of coffee running down the side of his cup.
âWhat a captain,â he says with a sigh. âNo wonder you guys need me to play for you against those Blue Lock idiots.â
Aiku should be offended, he really should be â and he is! He is, and heâs just about to muster up some scathing retort thatâll definitely leave Sae Itoshi trembling, but then Saeâs standing up with purpose, so now heâs just intrigued instead of insulted. He follows after him as Sae holds the coffee in one hand and marches towards the counter, and when he realizes whatâs about to happen, he preemptively cringes.
âDonât yell at service workers!â Aiku says. It wouldâve been heroic if he had said it loud enough for Sae to hear him, but unfortunately, itâs more of a whisper than the brave shout he had intended for it to be, so he just looks kind of stupid, as if he regularly talks to himself or something.
âHey,â Sae says to the boy at the counter. Heâs young, probably no more than fifteen or sixteen, and Aiku prays that heâs not the target of Saeâs ire. âWho made this?â
The boy squints at Saeâs cup, reading the receipt, and then he smiles innocently. âThat was Y/N. Did you want to talk to her?â
âYes,â Sae says bluntly. Aiku is about to thank whichever deity was watching over him and that boy alike, but he pauses when the rest of the kidâs statement registers. Her? Her? Is Sae seriously about to yell at a girl for making bad coffee? If sheâs hot, heâll kill Sae, no doubt about it. âAnd tell her to make it quick. We donât have all day, and sheâs already wasted enough of our time.â
Yeah, heâs definitely going to kill him.Â
âY/N,â a voice whispers. Youâre untying your apron â your shift is just about over, and youâre ready to clock out, but for some reason your young coworker is peering into the kitchen nervously and gesturing for you to come with him. Normally, youâd tell him to handle things himself, but heâs new, so you decide to be responsible for once and follow after him, muttering curses to yourself as you retie your apron.
âWhatâs the matter? Did you spill something?â you say. He shakes his head, raising his hand and pointing at the counter, where two customers are waiting. You frown, because youâre pretty sure you already gave them their drinks, so thereâs no reason for them to be standing there, unless maybe they want to reorder. âWait. Did you call me to take their order? No way! My shift is over in thirty seconds!â
âNo, no, I didnât,â your coworker says. âThey want to talk to you.â
âMe? Like me, specifically?â you say. He nods.
âYeah, they asked for you by name and everything,â he says earnestly. âI think theyâre mad, though.â
You pinch the bridge of your nose, because the last thing you want to do is deal with a couple of prissy customers, especially not when youâre supposed to be heading home already. However, your coworker seems to be on the verge of tears, and some kind of sisterly affection tugs at your heartstrings, so you pat him on the shoulder and take his spot at the counter.
âHi, this is Y/N. My coworker told me you needed to see me. How can I help you?â you say. Your voice is chipper and your smile is false, but they donât need to know that. Youâve been working at the coffee shop for long enough that youâre practiced at pretending, and you know for a fact that your coworker is standing shyly at your side, probably astonished by the quality of your performance.
For a moment, neither man speaks, so you get to stare at them and make your own assumptions about who they are and what their backstories might be. Itâs kind of like a hobby, a pastime for when things are slow or youâre generally annoyed about your job. Youâve developed it over the years, and luckily, these two are prime candidates for the game.
The one on the left is tall and broad, with dark hair and mysterious eyes. Curiously, one is a bright green, while the other is a softer violet, and thereâs a few-days-old stubble growing on his square face, like a shadow running along his jaw. It gives him a rough appearance, like he owns a motorcycle and frequently wears leather jackets, but you want to believe that heâs gentle at heart. Maybe he has a fondness for baby animals or he likes to bake cookies or something along those lines.
The one on the right is shorter than his counterpart, and his hair is red like a sunset, pushed carelessly out of his haughty face. Heâs wearing a sweater that matches his eyes, though the teal of the knitted fabric is much more muted, and youâre about to come up with some kind of fantastical explanation for who he might be when you realize that you know him.
He clears his throat, and you scramble to stand up straighter, internally screaming, because what are the odds that youâve somehow managed to piss off the star player of your favorite soccer clubâs youth team? You wonder what your father will think of you now. You wonder what you think of yourself now. What should you do? Should you tell him you recognize him? Ask for an autograph? Or should you play it cool and pretend like you donât know him? What if he yells at you?
Actually, you wouldnât mind it as much as normally do. When everyday customers start screaming at you for some perceived wrong that youâve supposedly committed, you typically tune them out, and then you make fun of them with your coworkers in the back, but if itâs Sae ItoshiâŠwell. youâll certainly listen to every word he says, and when you return to the kitchen, youâll write them down somewhere so you can remember the moment forever.
âHe didnât like his drink,â he says, pointing at the dark haired man.
âWhat?â the man shrieks. The pitch is higher than you wouldâve expected from someone of his size, but it appears he realizes that, too, because then heâs coughing. âI mean, what? What are you talking about?â
âYou were just complaining, Aiku,â Sae says. âYou even made me come up here and get mad at this girl for you.â
The other man, who you guess is named Aiku, is turning a strange shade between magenta and beet-red, and youâre surprised there isnât steam coming out of his ears. Given that you donât really care about him that much, youâre instantly irritated again, because why would it matter if he didnât like his drink? Still, you have to keep up appearances.
âMy apologies, sir. Is there anything I can do to make it up to you?â you say.Â
âNo!â Aiku says. âNo, itâs â hey, Sae, you were the one who was all upset, so why are you putting it on me?â
âHm?â Sae says, obviously uninterested in the conversation already. âI dunno. Maybe it happened like that, or maybe not.â
âIâm sorry,â you say again, more than a little bewildered. âAh, Iâm new here, so Iâm still learning.â
Aiku, who has returned to a more normal and human color, smiles at you kindly, and heâs about to respond, ostensibly to reassure you, but then your damned coworker pipes up: âNo, sheâs not.â
âAh, sorry?â Aiku says.
âSheâs not new,â your coworker says again.
ââNewâ is a subjective term,â you say mechanically, wishing that it was acceptable for you to turn around and hit him in public whenever you wanted.
âI donât think anyone would consider you to be new when youâve been working here for three years,â your coworker says. You can imagine the innocent, guileless expression on his face right now. You want to do something violent to it.
âHa, ha,â you say. You think your eye might twitch, too, but if Aiku or Sae notice, then neither of them point it out. âWhat a knowledgeable fellow we have back here.â
âItâs alright,â Aiku says. âI didnât mind the drink. Saeâs the one who threw a fit about it.â
âI liked it,â Sae says stubbornly. âIt was fine.â
You step in before Aiku can turn magenta again, because thatâs probably unhealthy for him, and you donât want to be held liable for a customer dying on your watch when youâre not even being paid for it.
âAnyways, is that all? Iâm actually done with my shift, so if you guys donât need anything elseâŠâ you trail off, though inside youâre screaming something along the lines of Sae Itoshi, please notice me and give me your autograph and oh, if you could fall in love with me, too, that would be amazing!
Of course, you canât verbalize anything like that, so you just smile and wave until the door slams shut behind them. Then youâre yanking your apron off and balling it up before chucking it at your coworkerâs face. It hits him in the nose and slides to the ground; he gives you an offended look before picking it up.
âYouâre lucky it was only an apron,â you say. âYou owe me big time, you little shit.â
âHuh?â he says.
âI wonât forget this!â you warn him, stomping towards the small locker room, where your precious phone is waiting for you. âYouâre a major-league jerk, okay? Donât ever ask me to cover another shift for you again!â
âHuh?âÂ
âWhat the hell was that?â Aiku snaps as soon as theyâve left the cafe, because this is totally not what he was expecting when his coach told him that he had to treat Sae nicely and make him feel welcome.Â
âWhat was what?â Sae says. Heâs sipping on his coffee sedately now, even though he was complaining about it only minutes earlier.
âSince when was I the one who was upset about my coffee?â Aiku says.
âI have a bad memory,â Sae deadpans. âI guess it couldâve been either of us.â
âThat was not believable in the slightest,â Aiku feels the need to inform him. Judging by Saeâs expression, it wasnât meant to be believable, though, and Aiku sighs. âSeriously, whatâs your deal? You were just going crazy and glaring at me because you thought the coffee sucked, and now you think itâs good?â
âI shouldâve waited for it to cool,â Sae says. âItâs better now. I was being hasty.â
âUh-huh,â Aiku says. âSure. Letâs do something else tomorrow. I donât ever want to go back there. I donât think I can face that girl again. She was so hot, too, and now she probably thinks Iâm some ungrateful assholeâŠâ
âI want to go back,â Sae says immediately, throwing the now-empty cup into the nearest trash can. Aiku furrows his brow at him, trying to puzzle out this latest contradiction and finding himself utterly unable to. âTomorrow.â
âTomorrow,â Aiku repeats dubiously. Tomorrow he has practice, and technically so does Sae. However, they both know that Sae doesnât need anything as ridiculous as practice in order to win against a team of eleven high-school forwards, and heâs fairly confident that his coach will tell him to accompany the bratty Itoshi instead of showing up, since the JFU is pulling out all of the stops if it means getting Sae to stay in Japan for good.
âTomorrow,â Sae reaffirms.
Iâm a nice guy, Aiku tries to remind himself. This is what nice guys do. Iâm boosting team morale. Yeah. Thatâs all. Captainâs duties.
Still, as he chases after Sae, who apparently doesnât know what the word âstrollâ means and prefers to do everything at a brisk pace more akin to a jog, he thinks that this entire ridiculous assignment feels more like a babysitterâs duties than anything.Â
âAre you serious?â your father says. In the background, the TV is playing a game between Re Al and Barcha, which is rather fitting.
âDeadly,â you say, untying the laces of your sneakers and putting them with the rest of your shoes. âIt was actually him.â
âSae Itoshi,â he says, shaking his head. âHeâs back from Spain?â
âSeems like it,â you say, though now that he mentions it, youâre as confused as he is. Why is Sae Itoshi here instead of Madrid? You glance at the TV â Barcha has just scored, and the cameras are sweeping through the crowds, showing the excited fans cheering â and wonder if maybe he was fired or something. You doubt that thatâs what happened; after all, heâs a consistent player, and the last time he was in a match, he even managed to outmaneuver that freaky striker who plays for Bastard MĂŒnchen, so it would make zero sense for Re Al to let him go. Besides, even if they did, youâre sure thereâs dozens of clubs that would be willing to take him, so there must be another reason for his presence in Japan.
âHuh,â your father says. âWell. Good for him.âÂ
âI guess so,â you say. âIf I ever see him again, Iâll ask him what heâs doing in town.â
Your father chuckles, taking a sip of his beer and giving you a thumbs up. âYeah, you do that. Let me know what he says.â
You laugh, too, sitting down at the counter and eating a plate of reheated leftovers, because you know as well as your father that the idea of you ever seeing Sae Itoshi again is more than a little far-fetched. But itâs a nice thought, and anyways the chances are never zero, so for the moment, you allow yourself to imagine.Â
Aiku is seriously questioning if Sae Itoshi was sent to this earth â or at least to this country â as some kind of punishment for him. Heâs not really sure whatâs done that would invite such cosmic retribution, but maybe itâs one of thoseâŠwhat did that girl call them? Karmic debts? She had said something about the sins of his past life and all, though he canât recall the specifics.
Wait. Thatâs wrong. He just never learnt them in the first place, so how could he remember them in the first place? He had broken up with her before she could explain her theories to him. This prompts a wince from him, which is further fueled by the way his t-shirt sticks to his back with sweat. Itâs a distinctively uncomfortable feeling, and heâs contemplating complaining, even though it probably wonât do much.
âShut up,â Sae says.
âI didnât say anything!â Aiku protests, more than a little spooked, since he actually had been about to say something before Sae had cut him off.
âI can see you making faces at me,â Sae says. Considering Sae is walking ahead of him and to the side, Aikuâs not quite sure how he could tell anything about what sorts of faces Aiku is making, but unfortunately, heâs uncannily correct as always, so Aiku schools his expression into a smooth, neutral one that wonât beget reprimand from his companion.
âI canât believe you insisted on going here straight after practice,â he says.
âThis is the same time we went yesterday,â Sae says. Heâs kind of an insufferable smart-ass, Aiku thinks to himself, though heâd never say as much to Saeâs face. After all, unlike his counterpart, heâs considerate like that, and he always has been.
âSo? We didnât have practice yesterday,â Aiku says. âYou couldnât even let me shower?â
âYou take forever in the showers,â Sae says. This is rich, for Sae is notoriously obsessive with his skincare, and of the entire team, he takes far and away the longest to get ready. But, then again, Aiku supposes that idiocy is one of those illnesses which spreads further and further until all of oneâs perspectives are tainted with the virus.
âI couldâve been quick,â he says. âIt wouldâve been better if I couldâve at least rinsed off so I didnât look so gross. I want to impress that Y/N girl if sheâs there again today.â
âYouâre not her type,â Sae says dismissively. âSo why bother?â
âHow do you know? Are the two of you childhood buddies or something?â Aiku says. Sae glances at him, and of course heâs way too holier-than-thou to properly sneer, but the corners of his lips turn downwards to the same effect.
âNot too hard to figure out,â he says.Â
âWell, hold on just a moment! I got the vibe that she was totally into me yesterday!â Aiku says. He actually did not get any such vibes from the barista; the only thing she seemed into was clocking out, but heâs Oliver Aiku. If he canât get a girl, he canât do anything. Besides, itâs not like Sae would be able to tell one way or another â Aiku and his teammate Sendou have a theory that Sae was created in a lab as some kind of experiment to make the worldâs best midfielder, because the guy really doesnât have any knowledge or concern for anything thatâs unrelated to soccer.
True to form, Sae blinks unsurely. âReally?â
âYeah, one hundred percent,â Aiku boasts, although then heâs narrowing his eyes, because such a question is so out of Saeâs character that for a moment, he wonders if thereâs been a mistake and heâs actually taken some other team member of his along for this ridiculous errand.
Messy red hair. Teal eyes. Forehead creased with a frown. No, itâs definitely Sae Itoshi, thatâs for sure. Just Sae Itoshi in a mood that heâs never seen before. If they were a little closer, heâd ask him whatâs the big deal now, but as it is, the question would probably go unappreciated.
âHm,â Sae says. âWhatever. Weâll see.â
âSure,â Aiku says slowly, reaching out to hold open the door of the cafe so he can enter behind Sae, since his lovely, amazing, wonderful, kindhearted teammate so generously left it to slam shut in his face.Â
What a total dick. He makes a mental note to ask the JFU for a raise, because whatever theyâre giving him at the moment is definitely not enough.Â
âTheyâre back again!â your coworker says. Youâre still mad at him for yesterday, so youâve been giving him the silent treatment the entire shift. It hasnât gone unnoticed, but his pitiful attempts at reconciliation never include an apology, so you havenât budged yet.
He waits for you to respond, but youâre pretty sure heâs making stuff up to get you to pay attention to him, and anyways they could be in reference to anyone, so you continue to pour milk into a cup, acting like itâs an all-consuming task which you cannot possibly complete without the utmost of concentration.
âIâm being serious! Y/N, itâs Sae Itoshi and, uh, that other dude!â he says. Your hand wobbles for the briefest moment, but you conclude that heâs most likely lying, so you steady yourself and continue pouring the milk. âFine, be that way! Iâll serve them myself!â
You canât even say something snarky in response, because thatâll still be a win on his part, so you huff particularly loudly to no one in particular and leave it at that.
A few minutes later, heâs back, looking so contrite that if you werenât upset with him, youâd actually be worried. Unfortunately, you very much are upset with him, so you find it on the whole to be rather hilarious and have to suppress a laugh.Â
He must take your amusement as a signal to talk, because he speaks eagerly and quickly, stumbling over his words and clasping his hands together in front of him.
âY/N, Y/N, theyâre insisting on seeing you, I told them youâre working right now â Iâm sorry, Iâm not supposed to do that, right? But I did, and now they really want to see you!â he says.
Youâre still not entirely convinced, but if this is an act, then itâs a dedicated one, and you donât think that he possesses that much dedication in all of his body, so maybe heâs actually telling the truth.
âFine,â you say. âBut if youâre lying, I swear Iâm telling our manager to fire you.â
âIâm not!â he squeaks, darting back to the counter, rocking back and forth on his heels as he waits for you to catch up to him.
When you reach the front, youâre surprised to see that it is in fact Sae Itoshi andâŠwhoever that other guy is. Aiku? Yes, that sounds right. Itâs Sae and Aiku, and one looks supremely inconvenienced â this would be Sae, of course â while his friend is running a hand through his sweaty hair, flashing you a grin.
You smile back at him, because thatâs what youâre trained to do, and you donât want your coworker to tattle to your manager that youâre not abiding by the cafeâs standards of customer service. Then you stare at them until one of them starts speaking, because thatâs what your entire job is, and no matter how badly you want to start gushing to Sae Itoshi about how big of a fan you are, you have to remain professional.
âIs there anything I can do for you two?â you finally say. This prompts Aiku to nod, nudging Sae in the side, which earns him a dark glare.
âI want the number two, and heâll take the number five,â Aiku says when Sae does not speak up. You want to tell him that nobody orders like that, but youâre not supposed to and itâs really not that big of a deal either way, so you just ring up the order.
âSounds good. Would you like to pay with cash or credit?â you say.
âCredit,â Sae says, pulling out a card that probably has a monthly spending limit higher than what you make in a year. âAnd weâre splitting the bill, just so you know.â
What you want to say is Wow, Sae, youâre somehow even cooler in real-life! Whoâs your favorite soccer player? Whatâs your favorite food? Do you like Spain better, or here? What you actually say is: âNo problem. Iâll have those right out for you.â
âThanks,â Aiku says. Heâs kind of charming, in a sense; you can think of several friends you have that would probably swoon at the way his smile stretches across his face, but you donât really see the appeal. Or, maybe you would normally, but at the moment, heâs standing next to Sae Itoshi, so itâs a little hard to focus on him at all.
âYeah,â Sae says. âThank you. Y/N.â
Heâs probably just reading off of your name tag in an effort to seem more friendly and relatable and humble and all. Itâs a classic PR move that he was probably taught as soon as he joined Re Al. You know about it, though, so it shouldnât work on you. It wonât work on you. Heâs just doing what heâs trained to, the same as you are.
It works on you. You run to the back and hide your face in your hands and squeal, because Sae fucking Itoshi just said your name.Â
âHoly fucking shit,â Aiku says.
âAre we just listing curse words now?â Sae says dryly. âBitch, cunt, hell. Thereâs three more for you.â
âYou like the barista!â Aiku accuses. If Sae was drinking something, he wouldâve spit it out just then, but heâs not, so he just chokes on his saliva.Â
âNo way,â he says.
âYes, you do! How else can you explain this?â Aiku says, pitching his voice up in an imitation of Saeâs. âYeah. Thank you. Y/N. Since when do you say thank you to people?â
âSince always? I have manners,â Sae says.
âIâve never heard you say it,â Aiku says.
âMaybe thatâs more telling about you than me,â Sae suggests. Aiku scowls at him.
âYou definitely like her,â he says. âNo judgment here, man. Sheâs pretty.â
âWhatever,â Sae says. âEven if I did like her â mind you, I donât â sheâs clearly into you.â
âMe?â Aiku says. âI was just messing with you earlier, you know. Anyways, yeah, I think sheâs hot, but, like, youâve never liked a girl before, right? So I wouldnât get in the way of that. This is a big step.â
âYouâre not getting in the way of anything. Do what you want,â Sae says.Â
Aikuâs already pulling out his phone and texting Sendou: big news. Lab experiment just evolved. Feels attraction and jealousy now.
âUh-huh,â he responds absentmindedly. Sendou texts back with about fifty mind-blown emojis, and he snickers to himself, liking the message.
âAnyways, who told you Iâve never liked anyone before?â Sae says defensively. Aiku just about drops his phone, leaning forwards in interest. Could it be? Are he and Sae actually bonding? Is Sae about to tell him about his first love â who apparently is not this barista?
âI just guessed. Was I wrong?â Aiku says. Heâs already trying to come up with who Sae mightâve liked â a childhood neighbor or friend? A womenâs soccer player he admired? A girl he saw once in Spain but never again? Oh, that last one is particularly romanticâŠheâs just about accepted it as fact when Sae glares at him.
âNo,â he says. Aikuâs dreams are shattered in an instant, but he can only shake his head while chuckling, both because Sae has inadvertently admitted that he actually does like that Y/N girl, and because he was an idiot for believing that âSae Itoshiâ and âromanticâ could ever belong together in one sentence.
âYeah, thatâs what I thought.âÂ
âWhat do I do?â you say. You and your coworker are back on speaking terms, mostly because you have no one else to talk to and are so desperate that youâre willing to temporarily forgive him.Â
âMake their drinks?â he says. You give him a dirty look as you begin mixing up their orders.Â
âNot about that. Iâm such a huge fan of Saeâs, and this is the second time Iâm making a drink for him. Itâs kind of like fate, donât you think? Should I try to talk to him or something?â you say.
âDo you want to?â your coworker says. Itâs a slower time of day, so he has nothing to do but sit and watch you â at least, nothing immediate. Thereâs certainly things he could be doing, but youâre not about to chide him when youâre the reason heâs slacking off.
âObviously! But what am I supposed to even say? Iâll sound like a creep if I just start acting like a fan-girl!â you say.
âThatâs true,â your coworker says. âYou kind of sound like one even nowâŠâ
âUgh, if youâre not going to be helpful, then go organize the storeroom or something!â
âWhat about her makes you like her?â Aiku presses.
âAre we still on this?â Sae says, as if theyâve been talking about it for hours. âI donât like her.â
âItâs not like you talked to her for a whileâŠwas it really just her looks?â Aiku says. âDamn. Didnât think you were the shallow type.â
âI am not the shallow type!â Sae says.
âThat sounds like something that a shallow person would say,â Aiku teases.
âShut up,â Sae says. Aiku doesnât have enough fingers or toes to count how many times Saeâs said that particular phrase to him. Maybe if he counted all of the fingers and all of the toes of every single person in the world, he would get kind of close to what that number might be. âIâm not shallow, I donât like her, and sheâs obviously way more interested in talking to you than me, so get off my back.â
Aiku whistles. âSomeoneâs jealous.â
âIâm telling the JFU that you were the one who sent me back to Spain,â Sae informs him bluntly. Aiku isnât sure if thatâs a joke or a legitimate threat. Itâs hard to tell with Sae sometimes.
âAre you serious?â Aiku says.
âDeadly,â Sae says.
Yep, Aiku decides. Heâs serious.Â
âIf only that Aiku dude wasnât there,â you lament, setting the first drink in the pick-up area and calling out Aikuâs name before returning to finish Saeâs drink. âItâd be way easier to talk to Sae without someone there to judge everything Iâm saying.â
âDo you think heâd even care?â your coworker says. You shrug.
âNo idea. Itâs intimidating to talk to guys around their friends, though. Youâre a guy yourself, so you wouldnât get it,â you say.
âAre they even friends?â your coworker says. âDoesnât seem like they get along that well.â
In unison, the two of you turn so you can look at the duo, who are sitting at a table right within your line of sight. As your coworker said, they donât look like theyâre friends in the slightest. Aiku is sipping on his drink with a smirk, and Sae looks like heâd rather be anywhere else, doing anything else, than be sitting there with his not-friend.
âThe point still stands,â you say.Â
âGuess so,â your coworker says. Just then, Sae Itoshi happens to glance over, making direct eye contact with you. Your eyebrows raise, and your face warms as you realize youâve been caught. Aiku turns to follow Saeâs line of sight as you weigh your options. Should you pretend like you werenât doing anything? Should you wave?
You decide to just smile again before returning to the drink you were supposed to be working on. Your coworker, who saw the entire exchange, cannot stop laughing.
âItâs over for you,â he says. âHe definitely thinks youâre a creepy fan-girl now. You can kiss that autograph goodbye.â
âYouâre lucky Iâm too lazy to remake this drink,â you say. âBecause otherwise, Iâd spill it on you.â
âThatâs against company policy,â he says.
âBy accident, of course,â you say with a malicious grin.
âThatâs against company policy, too!âÂ
âLook, she just smiled at you. I bet she was looking at you the entire time,â Sae says coolly. âYou should ask for her number. You already said you think sheâs beautiful.â
âI said sheâs hot. Iâm not all poetic and shit like that,â Aiku says. âAnd I wouldnât do that. Itâs against the bro code.â
âWeâre not âbrosâ, so you can put that out of your head,â Sae says.
âWhat if I help you get her number?â Aiku says. Sae tries very hard to maintain his nonchalant look, but Aiku can tell that his curiosity has been piqued. âWill you consider me a bro then? At the minimum, will you tell the JFU that Iâve done a great job at showing you around and making you feel welcome?â
Please please please please please I really need a fucking raise Sae Iâm broke please please please âÂ
âSure,â Sae says.
âSure?â Aiku says. âYes! Okay, this will be easy.â
Sae scoffs. âYeah, okay. If thatâs what you think.â
âBelieve me,â Aiku says. âYouâre in the presence of a master.â
Sae doesnât even dignify that with a response beyond the most disgusted look Aiku has ever seen on anyone, Sae or not. Heâd say something, but heâs pretty sure he deserves it at least a little, and anyways a possible raise is way more important to him than being right, so he keeps his mouth shut, simply giving Sae a double-thumbs-up. Heâs going to ace this new assignment, and then maybe heâll actually be paid what heâs worth instead of pennies on the dime.
Youâre about to call out Saeâs name when you realize that for some reason, both Aiku and Sae are standing there and waiting for you. You furrow your brow, because itâs both a menacing and a comical sight â the hulking Aiku, who looks like heâs about to go punch a criminal on television before flipping his hair and telling the ladies that thereâs enough of him to go around, and the slender Sae Itoshi, who you canât imagine doing anything but slamming a winning pass to one of his teammates, invariably leading to a soccer ball in his opponentâs net.
âUh, hello,â you say.
âHello,â Aiku says.
âHi,â Sae says.
âI have your drink,â you say to Sae.
âI know,â he says, taking it from your hand. Of course â why else would they be here? They mustâve seen you finishing up the drink and rightly assumed that it was theirs.
âRight,â you say. Neither of them go to leave, and now you wonder if they just donât understand social cues or something like that. âDid you guys want to order something else? My coworker would be happy to take you at the counter.â
âNo,â Sae says.
âOkay,â you say slowly. âWell, I hope you enjoy your drinks.â
âWe will,â Sae says with the utmost of confidence. Aiku groans and then thumps him on the back. You have a feeling you probably donât want to know what the significance of the gesture is, but then you realize that this is probably the only chance youâll get to have a proper conversation with Sae Itoshi, so you shove your concerns aside.
âWait! If it doesnât bother you too much, can I ask you a question?â you say. Itâs an incredibly awkward way of going about it, but given how awkward this entire interaction has been, you donât think itâs a huge deal.Â
âGo ahead,â Aiku says. You werenât asking him, but you guess the permission covers them both, so you square your shoulders and face Sae Itoshi, who seems entirely confused that youâre looking at him instead of Aiku. Youâre not sure why he would be, since between the two of them heâs the celebrity, but maybe thereâs some weird dynamic going on that youâre unaware of.
It doesnât matter to you, though. You only have one thing to ask. Youâll never cross paths with Sae again, will you? So itâs fine. You can act a little embarrassing, and anyways, you barely make above minimum wage, so if your manager gets too upset and fires you for âunprofessional conductâ or something, it wonât be a huge loss. Itâll be worth it, even, considering this is a once-in-a-lifetime chance and your coworker is busy reorganizing the storeroom like you told him to, so heâs not around to spy on you and report back to your stodgy old manager.
Taking a deep breath, you open your mouth and begin to speak.Â
Aiku hadnât dared to even dream of the possibility that the barista might already like Sae, too. Why would she? Sae had just been all weird and rude to her in the couple of times that they had spoken, so all in all sheâd have to be somewhat of a masochist, or a Re Al fan (which was essentially the same thing, given the losing streak that Re Al had been on for the last month or so), to be into him. But sometimes miracles did happen and baristas were masochists, because the girl was turning to Sae with shimmering eyes and a hopeful expression and it was all going to go so wellâ
âWhat are you even doing in Japan in the first place?â
Did he hear her right? Sae is bewildered as well, but Y/N isnât acting like sheâs just asked the most ridiculous question she couldâve possibly asked. What is Sae doing in Japan? Well, he happens to be a citizen of the nation, so thereâs one explanationâŠAiku wants to facepalm, because now his plans have been ruined and Saeâs confidence has probably been crushed.
âPardon?â Sae says. Aiku had told him not to act so cranky and old-man-ish when he approaches the girl, but honestly, at this point, thereâs no helping him, so he doesnât even bother with a correction.
âWhy are you in Japan?â she says again, all bright and innocent and cheery. It somehow feels like sheâs been faking things so far, and that this is the real her, which sheâs been holding back up until this point. Aiku isnât so sure if thatâs a good thing; privately, he believes it wouldâve been better if she kept holding back just a little bit longer. Long enough for her to reject Sae â who still claims heâs not into her and is just trying to âbe friendlyâ, as if friendliness is something heâs well known for â and then move on with her day.
âMy passport expired?â Sae says, phrasing it more like a question. âSo I had to come back and get it renewed?â
His voice ticks up at the end of every sentence unsurely. Itâs almost cute, like heâs a little baby chick. Aikuâs fond of chicks, so he decides heâll step in. Just this once.
âHeâs visiting from Spain to play for the Japanese U-20 team in an upcoming exhibition match,â he explains.
âOh, wow,â she says. âBut I thought you said you would rather give up on soccer or play with German college kids than ever play soccer for Japan?â
Aiku raises an eyebrow. He wasnât aware of such sentiments, and though heâs not exactly shocked, he canât help feeling a bit miffed. When he glances over at Sae, thereâs not a trace of remorse on his face, and so he wrinkles his nose.
Forget the raise and the baby-chick-esque mannerisms alike. Heâs done helping this ungrateful, no-good, lame-as-hell, girl-repelling loser for free. If Sae wants any further assistance, heâll have to beg for it.Â
âHow did you know I said that?â Sae says. You clap your hand over your mouth when you realize youâve exposed yourself.
âI, um, I was just guessing!â you say.
âGuessing?â he repeats. You swear, because thatâs actually a worse explanation than the original one, and then you hang your head, because if the catâs out of the bag, then thereâs no way you can put it back in.
âItâs a quote from one of your interviews,â you mumble.
âWhat?â Itâs Aiku, who immediately frowns when he realizes heâs butted in. Sae gives him an odd look out of the corner of his eye.
âIâm a big fan of yours,â you say. âThe last game you played in, when you stole the ball from that Bastard MĂŒnchen striker, was amazing! To tell you the truth, Iâve been trying to figure out why youâre in the area instead of back in Madrid. Itâs a little unbelievable, you see.â
âAh,â Sae says, and for some reason he looks uncomfortable. âWell. Yeah. It was just the issues with my passport and all. I decided to play for the U-20s because I was offered a good deal, but itâs right back to Madrid for me after that.â
âThat makes sense,â you say. Itâs awkward again, but in a different way. You donât know what to say. You donât think he does either. His drink is probably cold now, and youâre surprised that Aikuâs eyes arenât stuck in the back of his head, given how frequently heâs been rolling them. âCan I have your autograph?â
âNo,â Sae says immediately. Youâre a little taken aback, and to be honest, he looks kind of horrified himself, but you know better than to nag, so you only nod at him.
âNo worriesââ you begin before youâre cut off by a grumbling Aiku.
âHeâll give you his number instead. Here,â Aiku says, listing off a series of digits too rapidly for you to remember. âHeâll write it down, for you, right, Sae?â
And then, to your utter disbelief, Sae Itoshi is pulling out a pen and a piece of paper from who knows where, and heâs humming in agreement.
âRight,â he says, and then heâs handing you a note with his phone number written on it in neat print and his signature in flowing cursive. âYou can call me later. If you want. Y/N.â
The way he speaks is stilted and low, but you donât mind it. Tucking the piece of paper into your apron pocket, you beam at him.
âAlright,â you say. âIâll call you. I still have more things to ask you, so itâs good that you gave me this.â
âYes,â Sae says. âYes, you can do that if youâd like.â
Then he and Aiku are leaving the coffee shop, their drinks in hand, and youâre standing there in awe, wondering if that actually just happened or if it was nothing but a particularly vivid flight of fancy.Â
If itâs the latter, then you almost hope itâs one you donât ever escape from.Â
âYouâre welcome,â Aiku says as they leave the cafe.Â
âI didnât say thank you, you lukewarm oaf,â Sae says. Aiku shrugs. Heâs hard to ruffle, after all. Itâs the reason why he stepped in and rescued Sae from that little mistake of his. He just couldnât bear the thought of his dear junior losing the girl of his dreams because of a slip of his tongue, even if aforementioned junior is the insufferable smart-ass type.
Well, the thought of the money heâll make if Sae speaks of him highly to the JFU doesnât hurt, either, but thatâs less altruistic, so he prefers to stick to the first explanation.
âI bet you feel it, though,â Aiku says.
âShut up,â Sae says.Â
Itâs a good thing babies are born every minute. Otherwise, given how frequently Sae says that particular phrase, Aiku really might run out of things to count on.Â
Youâve typed the number on the piece of paper into your phone, and now youâre staring at it blankly, wondering if you should press the green call button. What if it was a prank? What if it wasnât? Because then youâll have to actually talk to Sae Itoshi, and youâre not so sure you can do that.
In a fit of inspiration, you slam your index finger against your screen and hold your phone up to your ear. It rings a couple of times, each subsequent one worsening the pit in your stomach, but then it stops ringing entirely, which can only mean one thing: Sae, if this really is his number, has answered.
âHello?â you say.
âHello?â he responds. âY/N?â
âYes!â you say. âItâs me. Y/N. Like you said.â
âCool,â he says. âItâs Sae. Which I guess you knew, since you called me.â
âThe confirmation was nice,â you say, internally sighing in relief. âThanks.â
âYouâre welcome,â he says. Itâs mannerly but also a little sarcastic, albeit not in a mean way. You donât mind it much. âYou said you had to ask me some things?â
The two of you spend the next few minutes in a setting kind of like an interview, in that you drill him with questions and he answers them all patiently. Heâs kind about it, humoring you even though he doesnât have to, and he never threatens to hang up, which you do appreciate.
âWould you mind if I ask a question, too?â he says when youâve taken a break to drink some water.
âGo ahead! Although Iâm not as interesting as you are,â you say.
âI think youâre probably way more interesting,â he admits. âAnyways. Are you free next weekend?â
âUh, I think I have a shift on Saturday, but to be honest, my coworker owes me, so he can cover it. Why?â you say.
âThe exhibition game that Iâm playing with the U-20s for. You should come watch,â he says.
âOh! Sure, where should I get tickets? Iâd have gotten them already if I knew you were playing,â you say.
âIâm allowed to invite someone,â he says. ïżœïżœFriends or family. So Iâm inviting you.â
âDonât you have actual friends that you can invite?â you say before gasping. âSorry! Sorry, that was super insensitive and rude of me. Of course Iâm honored to come, Iâm just confused about why Iâm the one youâre inviting. Me. Iâve literally made coffee for you twice, and thatâs about it.â
âYeah, thatâs true,â he says before pausing. âUm, look, Aiku told me to say this, so if itâs uncomfortable, then blame himâŠbut I think youâre, er, beautiful?â
Your mind short-circuits. âHuh?â
âI donât know! Heâs the one who has experience, Iâm just taking his advice!â Sae says, his tone souring immediately afterwards. âTrust me, itâs not like I want to. Thereâs many things Iâd rather do than follow Oliver Aikuâs advice, but at the moment, itâs the best I can do.â
âBeautiful,â you repeat. Itâs such an elegant adjective. Youâve been called pretty before, and thereâs been a fair share of guys who have considered you to be hot, but beautifulâŠitâs nice. Itâs really nice.
âYeah,â Sae finally says. âBasically.â
âIâll be there,â you say. Thereâs something like a scream bubbling in your throat, but you fight it back, knowing that itâs of the utmost importance that you maintain a relaxed demeanor.
âGreat,â Sae says. âSee you.â
âSee you,â you say, and then you hang up before he can say anything further, because youâre already on the verge of combustion and you donât think you can handle anything more.
Throwing your phone across the room, you give in and scream. Thereâs thundering footsteps, and then your father is throwing the door to your bedroom open, whipping his head around wildly.
âIs everything alright? Why are you screaming?â he says, heaving for breath, probably because he just sprinted from his spot on the couch to your bedroom in record time.
âSae Itoshi!â you say.
âYes?â he says, the rate of his inhales and exhales lowering as he realizes thereâs no active threat to your life or property. âWhat about him?â
âHe told me Iâm beautiful and invited me to watch his game next weekend,â you say, knowing that this is going to make your father â a fellow Re Al fan â freak out.
You wait, counting down as he processes the news, unable to contain your exuberant grin, knowing exactly whatâs coming. Three, two, oneâ
âWhat?â

Created A Monster Part 2 (Steddie X Kas Y/N)
A/N: Totally new for me here. Reader kind of takes more control in this one but I'm not calling it Sub/Dom dynamics. As someone going through some shit right now, this is kinda something I needed with the angst and their strong need to please her <3.
Enjoy!
Part 1
I can also leave it here or add another part. Up to you!
Warning: Steddie & Kas (vampire) Reader, SMUT, I read that bats give off pheromones so that was KINDA utilized here but all three here are consenting, dirty talk, boys desperate for her praise, etc. FLUFF, reader has memories of the guys that she forgot thanks to Vecna, it shows the love they had/have for each other. Memories are in black bold.
ANGST (because I'm me), she does insult them a lot through the beginning and they do what they can to make her remember them. The feels are abound. There is a cameo from the envision they have of her from part 1. She's always represented with italicized font. She mentions being hit by Vecna which makes the guys mad (rightfully!). There is a moment in the upside down near the end where Vecna expresses disappointment in her. That world is in red font. Cliffhanger ending.
Word Count: 6099
"Got you on your knees, beggin', "Mommy, please?" Girl I used to be, now she isn't me, say, "R.I.P."
Call a doctor I think I created a monster She's got a psycho inside her But I think that I kinda like her."
After removing your armor, they hastily tied you to a pillar and waited for you to wake.Â
âI watched her die in my arms, Steve. I held her till she took her last breath and even then people had to drag us away from her. How is she here?â
âI donât know. She looks differentâŠharder. She was always a badass butâŠâMy master sends his regards.â What can that mean?â
âIn D&D thereâs a character called Kas. Heâs a solider with a sword who Vecna grants eternal life and in turn he becomes his right-hand man killing Vecnaâs enemies.â
âBut then why would she come after us?â
âI mean we did help take him outââ
âNo, asshole. I mean why is she, Y/N, coming after us, the men she loves?â
Growling catches their attention as your eyes flutter open and you take in your surroundings.Â
âSweetheart.â, Eddie coos as he holds up his hands in surrender to show heâs not a threat. âHow are you feeling? Are you alright?â
âIâm fine but you arenât. As soon as I get out of here, Iâm going to rip you apart.â
âOh, well, thatâs nice.â
Steve rolls his eyes as he steps closer to you.
âDo you know who we are?â
âSteven Harrington, the former pathetic king of Hawkins who helped hurt my master by setting him on fire and Edward Munson who helped by distracting his babies so they couldnât protect him. Still on the run, freak?â
Their eyes darkened as they listened to you speak. This wasnât the girl they fell in love. You would have never said things like this to them before.Â
âAnd who are you then?â
Your body straightens as you raise your chin in defiance.Â
âI am my masterâs right-hand and his strongest knight. I protect him and kill any of his enemies that he asks of me.â
âAh, I see. So youâre his bitch?â
Baring your fangs, you hiss Eddieâs way causing both men to jump back before regaining their composure.
âMy master takes care of me. He saved me when I was left bleeding to death on the concrete after you and friends tried to kill me!â
âIs that what he told you? No. No, honey, thatâs not what happened. You were on our side of that fight.â
âMy master said you would lie.â, you growl.
âHE killed you, Y/N. Him and his âbabiesâ.â, the metalhead responded in an equally angry tone. âYou were supposed to come back with us but you sacrificed yourself by distracting those things. THEY pinned you down and THEY bit into you. You died in my arms, sweetheart. How can you not remember this? I was fucking screaming at youââ
âY/n! No, no, no, no, no. Stay with me, baby. Donât you fucking close those beautiful eyes. Henderson! Go get Steve. Fucking hurry!â
âBe nice, a-asshole.â, you try to chuckle. âEddieâŠIâm scared.â
âThereâs nothing to be afraid of, ok? Iâm right here and Steve is on his way. Weâre gonna get you to a hospital. I just need you to keep talking with me.â
âI lo-ove you bothâŠso much.â
âHey, donât you do that. Donât fucking tell me goodbye!â
âItâs not goodbye⊠itâsââ
ââŠSee you later.â
When you cut off Eddieâs story, his eyes locked with yours and for just a moment he saw the old you reflecting back within them. Their tiny victory was short lived however when your features hardened once more and you spit in their direction.Â
âLet me go now and I promise to kill you quickly.â
âWhat should we do?â, Steve asked his friend, ignoring your threat. âWe canât tell the others about her because then they may want to kill her.â
âMaybe we can take turns watching her and talking to her? Get her to remember who she is.â
âAnd what if thatâs a lost cause?â
Both men glanced your way as you tried to pull out of your binds.
âThenâŠwe kill her.â
####################
While Steve laid in bed, he stared at the ceiling above completely unable to sleep as the events of the night you died run through his mind.Â
He, Nancy, and Robin ran to where Eddie was clutching your limp body to his chest as he sobbed.Â
âNo! NO! What happened?!â, Steve screamed as he slid to his friendâs side.Â
âShe didnât come through with us when we went back through the gate. She stayed behind to distract the bats and fight.â
âO-Ok. Ok, um, need to get herâŠget her to aâŠa hospital.â
âSteveââ
âNO!â, he shouted cutting Robin off as he reached over to pry you from the metalheadâs grasp. Dustin placed his hand on his shoulder when it took him a moment to let you go. âHoney?â His voice cracked when he felt how cold your skin was as he cupped your cheek in his palm. âY/N, come back, baby. We won. We beat him. Vecnaâs gone. We-We can go home.â
When your body remained lifeless in his arms, he desperately shook you.
âWAKE UP, Y/N! PLEASE!â
The realm around them began to quake almost knocking them off their feet.Â
âWe need to go NOW!â, Nancy instructed.Â
âOk, we-we need to lift her andââ
âWe canât Steve. Weâll barely be able to get Dustin back through andââ
âIâM NOT LEAVING HER HERE!â
âNeither am I.â, Eddie growled angrily at the thought.Â
âI donât blame you for having to leave me behind.â, the vision of you coos softly from beside him. âMaybe if you hadnât I wouldnât be in the living room right now.â
âThatâs not you.â, Steve whispered. âWhoever that is, is what Vecna made her to be.â
âHm. Thatâs one way to look at it. What if a version of me was hidden there the whole time and you didnât know.â
âPlease. The girl we knew would never let anyone tell her what to do.â
âOh wow. Is little Stevie disappointed?â When he rolled away from you, your light laugh echoed in his ears. âYou always did like those nights when I took control, didnât you?â
***
âHeâs talking to himself in there.â, you say sarcastically to the metalhead sitting on the counter in front of you strumming his guitar.Â
âYeahâŠhe does that. Heâs actually talk to you; a version of you.â
âHm. Weâll thatâs pathetic.â When he doesnât respond or react to your words, your try to pull at your binds to no avail. âDo you also talk to a figment of your imagination?â
âSometimes but I go to your grave to do that so I seem less insane.â, Eddie sighs as he readjusts his instrument.Â
When his fingers start making a melody, you freeze as you listen to the notes.Â
âI know that.â
A small smirk paints his lips as he plays a bit louder but softly murmurs some lyrics.Â
âIn touch with the ground I'm on the hunt, I'm after you Smell like I sound, I'm lost in a crowd And I'm hungry like the wolf.â
âYou always loved that song. I would tease you because you would stop anything you were doing to watch the music video if it came on.â, he chuckles at the memory.Â
âIt was the fedora hats. Gave off this Indiana Jones vibe I always found attractive.â, the image of you beside Eddie laughed along with him.Â
âWe surprised you once by buying the outfits they wear and dressing like the band for Halloween. You felt bad because you thought we should all match so we ran to the corner store and bought you this headband with ears and a tail you could clip to your jeans. As soon as we stepped outside you howled real loud like a wolf.â
Eddieâs head hung at the memory, desperately missing those times when you made him unbelievably happy.Â
âBaby, itâs ok to have hope that you can bring me back. You know it will kill you if you both donât try.â, you try to soothe as you step closer to him. âIt also ok if I donât but you accept this newâŠpowerfulâŠstrongerâŠsexier version of me.â
The metalhead snorts out another laugh as he glances towards the chained-up version of you to find your black eyes watching him curiously.Â
âOh come on. I know the armor and attitude got you all riled up.â
âAm I turning you on, freak, or the imaginary friend you both talk to?â A wide toothy smile stretched across your face as you inhaled through your nose. âThe other asshole is turned on to if it makes you feel better.â
Eddie listened to you manically laugh as he jumped down from the counter so his friend could take over watching you. He couldnât handle your snarky attitude anymore.Â
#################
âHey, man. You alright?â, Steve asked as his best friend sleepily came down the hallway rubbing his eyes.Â
âYeah. I think I slept for like a total of 20 minutes.â Eddieâs gaze shifts to your sleeping frame that was now sitting on the floor with your head resting on your shoulder. âWhen did she knock out?â
âUm, around 6am. I was going to ask you; it seems like sheâs a vampire like you said. She has the fangs and hates the sun.â
âHm and the silver chains seem to be keeping her in place. Sheâs probably going to be hungry soon. I wonder how she eats. I mean itâs not like Vecna is the kind of asshole to give her blood.â
âEdâŠsheâs killed a lot of people, remember?â
âSteve?â
The sound of you calling out the manâs name grabbed their attention as the metalhead slowly stepped closer to you. Your eyes were still closed but your breathing had gotten shallow as your head lolled to the other side.Â
âY/N?â
âSteveâŠEddieâsâŠmissingâŠâ
The former jockâs eyes widened at your words as the memory flashed through his mind.Â
âSTEVE! Did you seeââ
âYeah, baby, I did.â, he pants out as he runs around the Family Video counter to take you in his arms.Â
âEddieâs missing! We have to find him! Heâs probably terrified and panicking.â
âHeâs probably at another friendâs house.â, Robin suggested. âDo you know who else he could be with?â
âIâm right here, sweetheart. Iâm not missing anymore. You found meâŠyou always did.â, he cooed.Â
His ringed hand shook as he slowly reached for your cheek, breathing a heavy sigh of pleasure when his thumb caressed your cool skin.Â
A low rumble left your chest and he promptly retracted when your eyes snapped open.Â
âDonât fucking touch me!â
âYou were having a memory.â
âOne of your lies imprinted in my brain!â
Steve angerly kicked one of the lower cabinets before leaning against the counter. A thought crossed his mind and you both watched him as he ran to the tv, searching through the plethora of VHSâs before finding what he wanted.Â
Standing back, he pushed a button on the remote and the sound of your laugh echoed through the apartment.
âSteve! Iâm going to laugh if we play this back and youâve been filming the wall the whole time!â
âHoney, the lens is pointing at us. How would it capture the wall?!â
âHere, maybe, if we squeeze closer togetherâŠâ
âEddie! Youâre crushing my ribs!â, you whine as the metalhead pushes you three closer together.Â
Their eyes scan you over as you watch the video in front of you and your whole demeanor softened.Â
âYou guys are so dumb.â, you giggle and sigh.Â
âYeah but you still love us.â
âDamn right.â, you coo as you tilt up to kiss Steveâs lips. âSo why did you spend money on this bulky thing?â
âBecauseâŠa few years from now when weâre married and have our six to ten kidsâŠâ The boy smiled when you rolled your eyes and your palm reached up to pet Eddieâs curls as he laughed into your shoulder. â⊠we can look back on this and remember. Remember a time when we were done fighting monsters and villains. A time before I became some awesome businessman working with Robin and making a ton of money.â
âA time before I became a fucking rockstar and women were screaming my name.â
âOh my god, Ed.â, you laugh before he grips your chin and turns you towards him.Â
âIâm sure even then all I hear is you.â, Eddie smiles as he kisses your lips. âWhat about you, sweetheart? What will you be doing?â
You softly grin as you pull them closer.Â
âI donât know yet but as long as Iâm with you two I know Iâll be happy.â
ââŠI know Iâll be happy.â
When your words echoed alongside the ones in the video, another pang of hope pierced their hearts.Â
âDid we fake that? Or imprint the idea in your head?â, Steve asked trying to hide the pleading in his tone. âYou loved us and we loved you.â
âSo much.â, Eddie added. âStill do, baby.â
A tear fell down your cheek as your eyes stared into a void, fleeting subtly from left to right as if you were sifting through your brain trying to decipher what was real.Â
âLeave me alone.â, you commanded in a soft tone as you hung your head.Â
Nodding, they did what you ask, surprising even you when they didnât try to argue back.
***
âEd! Wake up, man. Somethingâs wrong.â
Eddieâs head shot up from the chair he had fallen asleep on as his friend began to shake him.Â
âWha--? Whatâs happening?â
âI donât know. Sheâs really clammy and growling.â
Without hesitation, he headed your way and carefully took you in. Your eyes were now fully black as your head leaned back against the wall and you panted heavily. Your shirt was damp against your chest as sweat fell from your temple and your stomach rumbled.Â
âWhatâs wrong, Y/N?â
When you didnât answer, he stepped forward before abruptly pausing when you hissed his way.Â
âHungry.â
âO-Ok. Um, what do you eat? Do need blood?â As he began taking off his bracelets and rings, Steve grabbed his shoulder to stop him. âShe needs to eat or sheâll die, Steve.â
âWhat if she kills you?â
âThen she kills me. I lost her once; Iâm not losing her again.â
You blinked as you listened to them speak in such absolutes about you. Your master told you that they were vile, selfish men who left you for dead to save themselves. But then why were they offering to feed you? Why were they trying so hard to keep you around?
âHere, sweetheart, take what you need.â When he noticed you looking at the scars on his wrist, Eddie lightly chuckled. âMy, uh, beauty wound.â
âIâŠhave themâŠto.â
âYeah.â, he sighed. âI tried to save you but those little fuckers were everywhere. They got me pinned before I could get to you but, um, thankfully Steve saved the day.â
âY/N! Y/N, Iâm coming, princess. Fuck! Let meâugh!âlet me go!â
You shook out his voice screaming inside your head as pain shot through your body and you growled.Â
âShit. Ok, come on, Y/N. Go ahead and eat.â, the metalhead instructed as he placed his wrist by your lips. His scent wafted into your nose as another memory filled your brain.Â
âThe fuck are you doing you, weirdo?â, Eddie teases when he feels you inhale and nuzzle into his neck while you were straddling his lap as he tried to read.Â
âI like the way you smell.â
He cackles through his teeth making you smile as you hug him tighter.Â
âI smell disgusting. I havenât showered in like three days and you know I smoke like a chimney.â
Tilting back, you tenderly kiss his lips.Â
âIts YOU. I love the way YOU smell.â
While you were lost in your head, Eddie couldnât help but caress your cheek and to his pleasure you turned into his palm.Â
Suddenly, your teeth sunk into his flesh making him wince as the other boy stepped forward before he held up his free hand to stop him. As you drained his blood his chocolate eyes flutter closed as he groaned, falling towards you as his palm shot out to catch himself against the wall.Â
âTalk to me, Munson.â
When his friend didnât respond, Steve swiftly jumped into action, yanking him from you so hard he fell to the floor. You loudly growled at the action, your wings expanding as you push forward and broke the chain around you. Tackling him to the ground, he did his best to fight against you but you were stronger as your fangs sunk into his neck.Â
The former jockâs fight slowly left him as his panicked whimpers were replaced with hefty groans of need as his fingers reached up to lace in your hair.Â
âOk, now look.â
As you slowly open your eyes and see your reflection in the mirror, you let out a loud âHA!â as you cover your mouth to stifle the rest from escaping. Â
âWhat?! You donât like it?â, Steve teases with a big grin as his large hand lightly pats your floofy hair being held up currently by a ton of hairspray. âYou said you wanted to look like Madonna in that one video and for some reason trusted me to accomplish that.â
âI just thought that Steve âThe Hairâ Harrington would have some knowledge into hair.â
âWell, honey that was your mistake, not mine.â The boyâs laugh echoes through his always empty home as you gently hit his arm and he falls onto his back bringing you with him. âI still think you look beautiful.â
Your smile grows as you kiss his lips and he wraps his arms around you.Â
âEddieâs gonna have a field day though.â
âWhat?â, Steve asked breathlessly as he cupped your cheeks. âKeep going, baby. T-Take it. Take it all if you need to.â
At his words, a bunch of memories flash through your mind at once, overloading your brain as you tumble backwards on to the floor.Â
âWhoa! Whatâs going on, sweetheart?â, Eddie asked as he hastily slid to your side.Â
âI guess, um, weâre lab partners today?â, Steve forces a smile as he extends his hand to you. âIâm Steve Harrington.â
Eddie cautiously hands you a cigarette as he eyes you up and down as you both lean against the brick wall. âIâm EddieâŠEddie Munson. Whatâs your name?â
âChrist, I suck at this. The last person I said this to didnât feel the same butâŠI donât knowâŠItâs just differentâŠwith you. What Iâm trying to say, Y/N, isâŠI love you.â
âI love you, sweetheart, so much. I never thought Iâd ever feel this way about anyone.â
âSTEVE! Oh my God! Are you alright? When you got pulled under again I got so scared. Oh, fuck youâre bleeding. Nancy, do you have anything we can wrap around him?â
âIâm buying you more time. Donât worry, Eddie, you can spank me after we finish this.â
âY/N! No! Baby, please! Y/N! Y/N! Y/N.âÂ
Both men covered their ear as you tilted your head back and screamed. Before either of them could do anything about it, your wings expanded and you flew out the window.
#################
âWhat happened?â, Dustin asked after Eddie silently opened their front door and he saw their destroyed apartment. âWe, um, Mike, Nancy, Robin, and I have been trying to call you guys these past couple of days. Did something happen? Someone break in?â
âNoâŠnothing happened.â, the metalhead responded sullenly as he threw himself down on the couch.Â
The young boyâs eyes flicked to Steve who was seemingly fuming as he paced back and forth in their kitchen.
âDid you get cut?â, Dustin inquired as he gestured towards his friendâs neck.Â
âShe has to come back. We know sheâll come back. Sheâll remember. Sheâll remember. Sheâll remember.â
âOk, no. Somethingâs not right! Now tell me orââ
âOr what?â, the former jock snapped. âOr WHAT, Henderson?!â Thrown off guard by his tone, Dustin slowly backed towards the door as his friend stalked his way. âNothing then? Didnât think so.â After lightly shoving the boyâs chest, he slammed the door and went back into the kitchen to pace.Â
âThat was rude.â, the vision of you scolded.
âFuck OFF.â
âOooo Mr. Harrington⊠are youâŠneedy?â, you cackle mockingly as he glares your way. âHmmm. Who would have thought you were into biting?â
âIâm notâŠyouâŠyou did somethingâŠâ
âWho? Vampire Kas me? Ha! To be fair, itâs been, what, five months since either of you have gotten any? Feeling me on your lap again probably kick started your cock, you bad boy.â
The sound of glass shatters loudly as Steve throws a plate against the wall towards the vision of you.Â
âWould you calm the fuck down!?â, Eddie shouts.Â
âFuck you!! Fuck everybody!â
The metalhead rises to his feet and stomps towards his friend before shoving his chest.Â
âI feel it to but you donât see me screaming at hallucinations and throwing shit!â
âUgh! What did she do, Munson?!â
âSheâs a fucking vampire now, right? Bats give off pheromones⊠Donât look at me like that, Harrington! I donât see you coming up with anything better!â
As night fell, they did everything they could to distract themselves but images of you constantly clouded their mind way more than before. They barely even heard it when your feet landed on the tile in the kitchen and your wings retracted.Â
When their eyes landed on you, they thought they were envisioning you again. Your hair was laying down against your shoulders along a clean white tank top with matching shorts. Slowly, you tip toed to the couch where Eddie was laying drenched in sweat. Silently, you grabbed the back of his hand and place his palm against your cheek as you keened into the feeling.Â
When his eyes found yours, his eyebrows knitted together as he pushed up on his elbow and his thumb ran along the purple bruise under your eye.Â
âWhat happened, princess?â
Steve crawled from his place on the floor near the hallway till he was right beside you both and used his fingers to brush your hair behind your ear.
âDid I do that? Did weâŠ?â
You shook your head as your gaze averted from theirs.Â
âIâŠI asked my masterâŠtoo many questionsâŠâ
The boy growled as he forced himself to his feet and stumbled towards the sword he had defeated you with on the ground.Â
âI helped kill that fucker once, I can do it again.âÂ
Steve blinked in surprise when you were suddenly in front of him, gently prying the weapon from his hand. As he fell back against the wall, you fell into him and he limply circled his arms around you.Â
âIâm sorry, honey. Weâre not allâŠall hereâŠâ
Tenderly grabbing his hands, you placed them higher up your back before the sound of your wings expanding filled the apartment causing Eddie to roll off the couch and stagger your way.Â
âNo, NO, sweetheart, pleaseâŠdonât goâŠâ
Shaking your head, you place him beside his friend and lightly flap your wings their way. That feeling of need washed over them again causing both men to groan.Â
âYou were too close.â, you say as you gesture behind you. âItâs meant for enemiesâŠto defuse a situationâŠI panickedâŠtoo many memories.â, you whisper sullenly.Â
The metalhead tugs on your wrist, bringing you to him as he pushes your head against him. When your lips pressed against one of his tattoos, he practically melted, moaning at the action. Steve followed with a mewl of his own when your hand reached out to run along the hair that was sticking to his sweaty chest.Â
A prominent whine escaped them as you took a few steps back with Eddie falling to his knees and crawling as he tried remaining as close to you as possible. Your eyelids fluttered as his lips trailed from your feet, along your calf, and up your thigh till he reached your stomach.Â
After petting the long-haired boyâs head, you sauntered past them both down the hallway, pausing to beckon them with your finger and both men immediately follow. Laying down on the bed, they kiss and run their tongues along any part of your skin they can reach from your neck to the tips of your fingers.
Each pant and heavy whimper that left their mouths knocked something loose in your mind that turned you on more and more.Â
âThatâs it, Eddie, baby. Harder, please.â
âFuck, Steve, I can feel you in my stomach.â
âOh my God, pretty girl. Youâre so fucking tight. You take us both so well.â
âThatâs it, sweetheart. Ride my cock just like that.â
Lightly guiding his head with your fingers in his hair, you maneuvered Steve between your legs and helped him pull down your shorts while Eddie did the same with your top.Â
The metalhead promptly latched onto your tit as the pretty boy pressed gentle kisses against your pussy lips till his tongue licked a long stripe through your folds.Â
âOh fuck, honey. I-I never thought Iâd be able to taste you again. Still so fucking sweet.â
As his face fell back in your cunt and his mouth wrapped around your clit, your fingers softly played with his hair.
âThatâs it, Steve. Such a good boy for me making me feel so good.â
Jealousy coursed through Eddie at the encouragement, desperately wanting it as well. Rings dug into your flesh as the long-haired boy sucked and nibbled on your breast a bit harder causing your back to arch into the man below.Â
âAwâmmmâdoes Eddie need some attention to? Fuck, your both gonna make me cum.âÂ
Both men hurried their rhythm just as desperate to hear you come undone and as you tumbled over the edge, you clung to them tightly as continuous moans fell from your lips. Grinning drunkenly, it took you some time to come down from your high but when you did you were met with animalist grunts as they pushed at each other.Â
âYou just ate her out! Why do you get to fuck her first?
âBecause I can!â
A gruff growl left your throat as you pushed up and gripped Steveâs chin between your fingers roughly.Â
âDonât be greedy, Steve Harrington. Youâre both mine and youâve had a taste. Itâs his turn.â
The boy nodded when you let him go, pressing his lips to yours.
âIâm sorry, Y/N. Youâre right. Youâre right. Forgive me, baby, please.â At his last sentence, Steveâs voice cracked in pain and in return you kissed his forehead. âThank you. Iâm sorry, Ed. Iâm so sorry.â
The metalhead curtly nodded as if to say he forgave his friend and when he turned to focus on you, he was rewarded with your legs open wide as your hand rubbed slow circles against your clit.
âCome here, Eddie. I can help make you feel better.â
After climbing the length of your body, his beautiful, glassy eyes locked with yours as he slowly guided his cock into your warm core making him loudly groan.Â
âAhhh my god, Y/N. Y-You feelâŠâ He tried to control the strain in his tone but Eddie was so overwhelmed by the feeling of you as he delivered small, pointed thrusts that had little pants falling from your lips.Â
âHow do I feel, baby? Tell me.â
His long hair tickled your cheek as his head fell beside yours and your legs wrapped around his waist pushing him closer to you.
âYou feel so fucking good. I missed you so much, sweetheart, you have no fucking idea. Iâm sorry I failed to bring you back. I broke our promise.â
âYouâre safe with me, pretty girl, and I promise nothing is ever going to hurt you as long as Iâm here.â
Clinging to him, your lips tenderly kiss the skin along his shoulder as Eddieâs pace hastens and his hips slam aggressively into your own.Â
âItâs ok, baby. You did everything y-you could.â You tried to say that as confidently as you could but the truth of the matter was you just didnât remember. These past couple of days, your brain had been sifting through two timelines and it felt like sometimes you were viewing someone elseâs life. But they were hurting and you could feel the sincerity when they spoke.Â
Your master told you he loved you and would protect you; that he would never lie to you. But when you asked him questions about your memories, he became angry.
âWHY ARE YOU QUESTIONING ME?! After everything Iâve done for you, Y/N. You let them get in your head didnât you? Made you weak? I knew I should I have left you on the concrete.â
âHey. Hey, hey, hey.â, Eddie cooed as he lifted on to his elbow to look you over when he heard you start to sniffle. âAre you ok? Am I hurting you?â
Shaking your head, you encourage him with your palms to keep moving. His lips gently press a kiss to your forehead and down to your cheek as finds his rhythm again.
âJust l-like that, sweetheart, fuck. Your cock is so deep, Eddie.â, you whisper in his ear. âI love you.âÂ
Your eyes roll back as the coil snaps and your nails drag almost painfully down his back but the metalhead doesnât care as he chases his high, falling flat on top of you as he rolls his hips and releases his seed inside of you.
âGood boy, baby. Itâs Steveâs turn now, ok?â
Lazily nodding, he rolled to away from you as the other boy grabbed your arm and pulled you his chest while he laid on his side. After lifting your leg and hooking his arm under your knee, you helped guide his length into your sensitive hole causing your back to arch off the bed as you moaned.Â
âMmmâStevie, oh my Godâyouâre so big. Stretching me open, baby boy.â
âFuck.â, he groaned as he steadily pumped his hips. âLook at me, honey, please. I n-need to see your face.â When you craned your neck to do what he asked, his palm grazed your forehead, moving your hair back so he could see everything with no obstruction. âI missed you, Y/N. F-Fuckingâmmmâdreamed about you every night.â
You mewled as he pounded into you and his arms abruptly pulled your body tighter against him.
âI tried, Y/N. I prayed you would never see the monsters in this town. I tried toâmmphâshield you.â
âSteven! What arenât you telling me!â The manâs head hangs as he sits in his bedroom after you and Eddie picked him up from the hospital after the mall caught fire. âBabyâŠlook at your face. Thatâs not just from a fire. Someone hurt you⊠PleaseâŠâ
âYou wouldnât believe me if I told you.â, he murmured under his breath.Â
Reaching out with your fingers to move his hair, Steve winces as a tear falls from his wounded eye.Â
"Try us.â
Your fingers thread through his as his rhythm picks up and his cock abuses that spongey spot inside of you.Â
âIâm sorry, baby. W-We werenât fast enoughâŠâ
âItâs not your fault. Make me cum, Steve, please.â Pushing up on his elbow, his eyes met yours as he did what you asked and your mouth fell open in a silent moan as he thrust into you harder. âI love you to.â
Lips crashed to yours as your body trembled and you came with him following as he warmed your insides.
Both men clung to you as the kissed along your sweaty skin, thankful that you were between them once again.Â
################
Vecna sighs from his spot in his crumbling home those insignificant kids tried to burn down. Idiots. He was slowly getting stronger and soon they would feel his wrath. Until then he had to depend on you; a friend and girlfriend to the people he despised. You had proven useful these past few months but when you disappeared, he thought they had killed you and began moving forward with his plan without you.Â
When you flew in with half your armor missing and blood dripping from your mouthâŠhe was disappointed.Â
âWhat took you so long? I thought you were dead.â
Your head tilted at his aloof tone as you fought the urge to cry.
âIâm sorry, Master. Eddie and Steve were much harder to dispatch than I thought.â
âHm. Eddie and Steve, huh? I thought they were the freak and asshole. At least that whatâs you called them.â
âI-I-IâŠâ
âFitting men who hurt you and left you to die.â
âDid they?â
You didnât mean to say it out loud but you still stood up straighter when he turned to face you, his intimidating eyes taking you in as he stepped forward.Â
âAre you questioning me?â
âNoâŠN-No, sir. I justâŠIâve been having theseâŠflashes andââ
Vecnaâs large hand across your face cut you off as he smacked you hard and you fell to the ground. He reprimanded you and you flew away to your âhomeâ to rest so you could go back out when night fell again. You thought he didnât know your secrets but he always did. This WHOLE WORLD was his home.Â
He felt the wind of your wings when you descended to the apartment building you felt safe in for some reason. The vine that you moved out of the way as you opened the window to a ârandomâ apartment and curled up on a dusty bed. The pin of the thumb tac you put in the wall to replace the generic frames that were there with a banner from the trailer you explored next to where you woke up.Â
You didnât know what âCorroded Coffinâ was but for some reason the design gave you peace. After removing your armor, you would sift through your closet for clothes you lifted from that same trailer and another house a few miles down the way. Dozens of polo shirts and band teeâs that were much bigger than your tiny frame but they calmed you as soon as you put them on.Â
You had hidden little Knick knacks in the drawer nearby hoping one day youâd get the courage to ask your master why they felt so important to you. There was a 20-sided die beside a book with notes about dragons and dungeons and hair gel that smelled familiar but you couldnât pinpoint where. You had four metal rings that sometimes you put on your fingers as you slept feeling like someone was holding your hand in the dark when you did. In the house you found the polos in, there was a pair of sunglasses on the dresser that you ignored at first because there was no sun here but something in your stomach tugged at you to bring them with you.Â
âWeakâ, Vecna thought every single time.Â
When morning came around and you didnât come home again he shifted from disappointed to annoyed. Maybe he needed to do this particular task himself. He still wasnât as strong as he was before but he had enough strength to take out two measly men.Â
You would learnâŠone way or anotherâŠ
****
You gasp as the strong feeling that woke you slowly recedes but are hit with the peak of sunlight that penetrates the through the crack in the shades causing you to hiss as you jump out of bed and push your back to a corner.Â
âWhoa! Ok, baby. Itâs ok!â, Steve calms as he hastily throws off the covers and runs to fully cover the part of the window that had sun coming through.Â
Eddie slides down to his knees in front of you as his eyes look you over with concern.Â
âWhatâs going on, Y/N? What happened?â
âWeâŠweâŠwe have toâŠI have to go⊠I have toâŠâ
âSweetheart, itâs noon. The sun will hurt youââ
âOk, then you need to leave. Right now. RIGHT NOW!â
As you stand up and start to push forward, ring covered fingers keep you in place before you growl and the man lets you go holding his palms in the air. Â
âJust talk to us, honey. Whatâs going on? Let us help you.â, Steve pleads as he takes his place at his friendâs side.Â
âHeâs coming for you because I failed.â
âWho?â
Your worried gaze shifts between them both as you sigh and shake your head, annoyed that they donât already know.Â
âWhoâs coming for us, baby?â, Eddie asked again as he stepped towards you and carefully pushed some of your hair behind your ear. Closing your eyes, you turn your cheek into his palm and kiss the skin as you place your hand over the back of his own.Â
âMy master.â

đTicklish Remedy(Student!SatoSuguxStudent!Fem!Reader)đ
A/N: Sorry this took me so long to get out! I gotta write more JJK tk fics in the future. This one I rushed, it's true.
Content: Angst, hurt/comfort, more exposition than tickles but obvious tickles, mention of reader gaining seer vision cursed technique powers for possible future plot development, Shoko Ieiri cameo, and SatoSugu poly loving.
Credit for characters and art used goes to Gege sensei.
* Please DON'T plagarize, translate, or repost my FANFIC content. Reblog, like, and follow instead.
I hope you enjoy.
Why were you in such a pathetic mood?
Waking up from a messed up dream in a cold sweat?
Coming back from a mission where more damage than saving was done?
Or a hard downpour out of nowhere soaked you and would be around for the remainder of the evening?
All of the above.
In this life, you are the quiet, sweet protective being. But it takes certain things to set you off. All of the above, for instance.
Another big one would be the only friends turned found family you ever had and known getting harmed in any way, whether from slander from those foolish higher ups or certain corrupted humans you were obligated to save and not harm for retribution despite getting injured on the job because of them. Those indeed pissed you off.
That wasn't the case this time.
Nah, you're just having one of those days.
You had just left the shower, clad in a dry tee shirt and short shorts, going stomach first flopping on your dorm room bed in a downtrodden sense, when a loud knock on your door made you moan in refusal, smothering your face in your pillow.
"L/n? Sweetie? Y/n-chaaaaaan~?!"
Satoru's loud rambles; his voice always making you smile, now sounded irritating to you. "Go away." Your muffled yell made a new voice join in.
"Y/n? Honey? Are you alright?"
Suguru's concerned voice made you feel bad at behaving this way towards them when it wasn't their fault at all. "Not really."
"Excuse us. We're coming in." Suguru's warning was followed by your dorm room door sliding opening as their heads popped up through behind the door, your weak wave giving them the prompt to just come in.
They were both still in uniform but also in socks and slippers, as Satoru flopped down, jostling the bed, before spooning you from behind and Suguru sliding your door closed before sitting on the edge of the bed in front of you and held your hand in his; rubbing comforting circles on your knuckles with his thumb when he asked.
"How bad?"
Your hesitant sigh didn't bode well. "I was sent alone to exorcize a second-grade curse spirit after it ended several regulars working at a cemetery."
"Yaga-sensei told us." Suguru's pitying gaze made you whine weakly. "We're sorry we couldn't go with you."
Flashes of your nightmare from early morning resurfaced; your pinched expression being a sign of your discomfort. "The same nightmare happened again. Just ⊠bloodied corpses ⊠of those I care for âŠthat shadowed, stitched forehead bastard's smile ... and I'm unable to move or scream or do anything âŠ" Your voice wavered as your form trembled with a deep-rooted frustration and pain on this particular dilemma.
You still had no freaking idea who or what it was; human or cursed spirit, let alone why you kept having these dreams. A warning? Perhaps. You were slowly climbing up the ranks in terms of developing your Innate technique; as odd as it was in getting impactful visions followed by side effecting migraines. And this was yet another unknown future threat standing in your way.
"Plus I got rained down hard coming back here. So there." You pouted, taking Suguru's hand in your own, just to splat it over your face, amusing the latter despite the gloomy vibe.
"That bad, huh? God, quite the depressing mood bundle you are!" Satoru sighed loudly.
You jammed your thumb over your shoulder into Satoru's cheek, dryly retorting. "Obnoxious creep." You thrusted your pointer finger of the same hand forward in Suguru's face. "Weird bangs guy."
"Now sweetie, I know you're just saying those things because you're down in the dumps⊠but it still wounds me!" Satoru mockingly cried out, ruffling your hair, further driving the point of getting stabbed in the feels.
"Honey, you're wrong. About my bangs, I mean. Satoru ⊠nah that's right on the mark." Geto poked your nose, smirking like the smart ass he is, rubbing salt in the wound.
"Hey!" Gojo flared up, dagger eyes on his bestie at the betrayal.
You snorted at their interaction. Satoru's face stubbornly set in a pouting expression, when the sound you just made gave him quite the amusing idea as he kissed your forehead down from up above you. "So, what you need right now is some serious cheering up, 101."
A twisted smile suddenly wormed up on his face. It makes your gut squirm with nerves.
"Suguru~" The sing-song tone to his name snatched the younger man's attention. "It seems our lovely girlfriend is too grumpy for our liking~!"
The same twisted feeling inside you doubled as Suguru smiled at you in the same manner.
"Yes ⊠we should remedy that right away."
Able to read each other's thoughts down pat; synced as the best friends they are, meant they were both on board for their evil agenda.
"Uh, chotto matte," Your Nihongo Jouzu reflexes came spilling out as nervous giggles did as well, fidgeting as your attempts to get up and pull away from Satoru's hold were futile for his arms tightened around your waist and pulled quick enough to flush your back against his front. "Not that. Anything but that!"
"Y/n-chan ⊠if you plead more, I'll consider it." Suguru calmly mused as he climbed up on your bed, trapping your legs in between his knees, coyly smiling. "Maybe~"
A squeal sprung free from your lips as the spider-like fingers of Satoru squeezed your sides before wriggling into your ribs. "I'd rather she beg. After all, she wants this so much~!" Satoru smugly taunted, that fat ass smirk plastered on his face when you jabbed your elbow hard in his side.
"Liar liar pants on fire â AAH~!" Your retort was cut off by your own shriek as Satoru's fingertips slithered around to deeply drag across your belly.
"Oh ho, you're gonna get it now!" Satoru's deepened tone spoke doom for you. Suguru's snickers only added to it.
Your spastic, laughing form was kicking, flailing, and bouncing to both their inner amusement and glee; the bed squeaking and the headboard hitting the wall many times in the process.
"Cootchie cootchie coo~!" Satoru's fingers slid through your shirt sleeves to pinch and wring the bare skin of your armpits.
"Tohohohohoru you ahahahahahass~!" You slam your shoulders into his in another attempt to push him off, but that lean skinny bode hid such strength beneath.
"Hey! I have a fine ass, I'll have you know!" Gojo's pursed lips were made to good use as he began doing raspberries from the crook of your neck to the base of it to under your ear, speaking in between every tingling blow. "Very. Fine. Indeed!" His snowy hair added to the ticklish sensation as his puffy locks brushed your cheek.
"You twohoohoo beheheheheter stahahahap or I swehehehear I'll â EEK~!" You squeaked harder as Suguru exchanges wiggling squeezes between your shaking kneecaps and your thighs. "Suhuhuhuhugu qu â quihihihit it~!!"
Geto snorted. "Jackass is more like it."
"Your face up my ass the other day spoke otherwise, if you recall~" Satoru's buzzing wet lips pulled from your neck to give bedroom eyes to Suguru.
Who returns the look, just as gluttonous for another go. "The face you made proves you enjoyed it just as much~"
Their raunchy talk was halted as a pillow got whacked in Suguru's face, followed by said pillow being thrown to Satoru's, who barely caught it in one hand. But that enough commotion lets you slip free from his loosened grasp.
Though the truth was he let you go free for now, laughing slowly at the look of sheer disbelief on his raven haired lover's face at what you just pulled, the more bangs loosely gracing his forehead from the commotion.
"Ooh, you're in trouble~!" Gojo singing spoke of doom.
Your panting, pink cheeked self could only have a moment's reprieve as chills raked your skin at the dark edge tainting Suguru's almond eyes. Unlike the smile in your nightmares, bearing callousness and insanity, Suguru's bore a more eerily calm smiling face.
"Indeed ⊠it's on."
He dodged the kick to his face by your freed foot, toothily smiling as he caught your ankle, viewed your squirming foot with scrutinizing intrigue, before dragging his finger up and down your sole lightly enough to have you become a cute chortling mess.
Your other foot moved to kick his arm to free yourself when Gojo snatched it straight away, clicking his tongue to scold you. "Naughty, naughty~"
The two looming devils you love jumped you!
Shoko Ieiri, twirling her non lite cigarette between her fingers, jumped at the ear-piercing scream striking the air of the dorm, high tailing to the source as curiosity beckoned her.
Discovering the loud slamming ruckus jumbled in as well, it all is coming from your room followed by your jumbled cackling wordplay in the mix had her sliding the door open, her cigarette nearly slipping from her grasp at the sight she just witnessed.
You were flipped to lay on your stomach, laughing your sweaty red face off, as both those bastards each straddled a thigh of yours, with a footsie for each to tickle savagely.
"And this is why I stopped questioning why this is your norm now." Shoko shrugged.
"She whacked us with her pillow!" Suguru gruffly complained as his fingers wringed through your toes.
"Hilarious move on her part but she did wound my pride." Satoru's mirthful grin then drooped as his pride did deflate. "So, retribution!" Killing your restraint as he nibbled on your padded piggies.
"SHOHOHOHOHOHOHOKO~!!! MAHAHAHAHAHAKE THEHEHEHEHEHEM STAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAP~!!!"
Your flailing calves nearly whacking them were immediately taken care of as their forearms wrapped around them to hold them in place, their hands squeezing your ankles in their ironclad grip. Suguru nibbled and dragged his teeth and tongue down your wrinkled sole while Satoru's lips and tongue suckled and wriggled between your toes.
"PLEHEHEHEHEHESE HAHAHAHAHAHAVE MEHEHEHEHEHERCY~!!!"
"Yeah, as the resident healer of our group, I see the telltale signs she's gonna pass out at this rate." Shoko nearly toppled over you as your hands needed some support to dig and squeeze your fingers in something to keep your unhinged self-grounded.
Suguru hummed in contemplation. "Hmmm ⊠while seeing and hearing our love in this state does please me greatly, this overall was supposed to cheer her up."
"Your cheering up brand is quite savage indeed." Shoko's apathetic tone made them both stifle a groan; Satoru's vibrating through your foot made you squeal louder, as he finally popped his mouth off your saliva covered minies.
"Alright, alright! We will," Satoru gave a big wet smooch to your topside. "I'd say we're even now."
Suguru kissed your other topside in the same manner, before their arms released your calves, moving off your thighs so they could lay your legs fully down on your rustled sheeted bed.
You breathed in and out your relief as tranquility came at last; giggles from ghost tickles slipping in, releasing your hold on Shoko's arm to fold yours and use them as your personal resting pillow. "Ah ⊠f ⊠freedom ⊠thank you." You were now more exhausted but less depressing. Pro? Perhaps. For now, anyway.
"Y/n." You leaned your head into Satoru's smooth warm hand as he brushed your hair strands sticking to your forehead aside, rubbing your forehead before brushing your hair back in gentle motions, as he flopped down on his stomach on your right side, resting his cheek on his free forearm, the vibrant Six Eyes looking at you over his lowered shades, straightforward truth teeming in them. "In this life, you can't save everyone."
You frowned at that, blunt and to the point, when Suguru also flopped down the same way on your left side, his giant firm hand rubbing massaging circles on your back, surging with tender care, bringing blessed sighs out of you, as his eyes met yours next, teemed with solace. "Nor will the fear of the unknown go away just like that."
"We can't promise that nothing will happen to all of us later on down the line, either." Satoru's distaste for it showed.
"But we can promise that when they do, come what may, we'll give it our all." Suguru's empathy shined through in his beautiful almond eyes.
"We have to in order to be the strongest duo, after all." Satoru chuckled as his cheek nuzzled yours.
"Eh? And me?" You pouted.
"Then trio." Suguru pecked your lips just to see that smile of yours blossom.
"Ahem!" Shoko fake coughed, sitting against the front of the bed on the floor, plopping her head back, lips puckered and batting eyes at you all in fake sadness.
"Okay, squad then! Point being! Whatever comes our way, we face it together, as best we can. We are there for each other. None of us should be alone. Right?" Satoru's sincere toothy smile sealed the deal.
You sighed deeply. "Fine ⊠but any more savage tickling cheering up schemes in the future are off the table! I swear to God â!"
"Hai hai." The duo agreed in unison as they each pressed a deep noisy smooch to your cheeks.
"Ehem." Shoko pointed at her own face, wanting smooches too. That brought laughs out of all three of you before you kissed her forehead, and the guys kissed her cheeks.
The downpour had finally ceased, and you fell asleep from the tiring experience that toppled the rest.
"Too precious for this kind of life, she is." Shoko smiled faintly as the guys kept their eyes on yourself, softly breathing, slowly lifting and lowering your slumbering self.
"Suguru? Those dreams of hers âŠ"
"Premonitions, you mean?"
Satoru nodded. "It's been happening for weeks now."
"She could be a cursed Seer of sorts. See the future and all that." Shoko interjected.
"Her cursed energy has been increasing. Her output as well. Still ⊠I say we keep close to her. Keep our guard up." Suguru suggested.
"And if Yaga-sensei sends her out solo tasking again?" Satoru dreaded that possible outcome.
"We should inform him of this. If a possible dire threat does arrive in our future, I'd suggest one of us go with her on missions just in case. We both can handle solo missions just fine."
"Then I call dibs~!"
Suguru's eyes narrowed intensely. "My idea, my dibs."
Satoru flared up. "Eh~?!"
Your groggy stirring mumbles alerted the bois to keep it down, your settling down leaving them puffing out their reliefs.
"Compromise then, Satoru~?"
Said man groaned. "You're lucky you're you."
Suguru chuckled at that before smooching his snowy haired lover over your resting head.
"Your throuple is a cursed miracle in and of itself, alright." Shoko murmured, toying with the cig between her lips.
Your throuple life story.
Cursed miracle indeed.

A backstory for brisket Five? Say less!
Tags: Diego and Five bond:(, semi-happy ending, brisket Five, he's retired, not an x reader, if you guys want me to make one just ring the bell!, He's so silly!, now let's traumatize him, shows how brisket Five got his name
Characters: Five | the brisket boy (TUA show), Diego Hargreeves, slight mention of Luther Hargreeves and Sloane Hargreeves, Waiter Five cameo at the end
---------------------------------------------------
"You used to be one of the rotten ones."
Five wouldn't say he had any artistic ability, in hindsight his calculations all over every space of his childhood bedroom might look like modern art to the gullible eye but it's more of an eyesore when you actually understand the things written down, some even have corrections all over them, which at one point stops looking good and starts looking like someone barfed numbers on top of numbers. He learned mathematics in the years he spent walking the empty wasteland of an apocalypse at the ripe age of thirteen to fifty-something, reading books over and over again that survived in the apocalypse was his only source of enjoyment, if not enjoyment, then to pass the time.
No one knows one of those books he picked up was a cook book, a mini-series of them, he vaguely remembers having six out of the eight that you could get in a standard book set of these page torn burnt at the side step-by-step instruction nightmares. But he kept them. There were no stoves anywhere - and if there were, there would be no gas to turn the thing on; besides, he didn't exactly have the materials to cook food anyway, so it was useless to carry those six books around so much, embarrassing, even. Yet it was still in his cart, all forty years he spent heaving it and dragging the wooden mess behind him, those books never left his sight, and he never let them get damaged.
"Step one, throw a pot on the stove and set the fire to medium heat, slice the meat and add it into the water, then--" Five mumbled with his eyes closed, his hand fumbling with a fork, before his ears picked up footsteps right outside of his hotel bedroom. "Five?" Diego knocked on his already open door, letting himself into the older-but-younger brother's room. "You hear the thing with Sloane and Luther? They're getting married," Diego announced, eyeing his sibling for a second, trying to gauge his opinion. If Diego wasn't Five's second favorite sibling he would have sent him out of his room in less than a second, but he is. "I know. Space boy marries space girl before the world ends, kisses and hugs, do I have to be there?" Five grumbles, standing up from the edge of his bed and making his way to Diego, too lazy to use his powers.
"Yes, you have to be there. You're Luther's sibling too you know?" Diego, who's been trying to work on his parental instincts, can't help but see Five as a kid who just can't be understood by certain people, and with this knowledge in his mind, he also can't help but wrap an arm around Five's shoulder and give off a smile. "I'll be there too."
Well, this certainly wasn't what Five thought would happen a few hours before his brother's wedding. He was baking..a cake, a wedding cake, with Diego, his other brother. Five eyed Diego from his peripheral vision, watching him mix the cake batter incorrectly. "Give it here," he sneers, blinking next to Diego and grabbing the mixer, doing it the right way and watching his brother stare at him in what he thought was either awe, annoyance, disgust, or all three. "What?" Five stepped aside, cracking an egg into the batter and then mixing again. "Nothing, I just didn't think of you as the type of guy that cooks."
...
"I don't." Five stares down at his hand holding the mixer, blinking at the weird thought that maybe he could be the type of guy who cooks. After all this, when the world eventually ends and he finds himself up in his version of heaven (which he would prefer if his siblings were nearby, but he'd never tell them that), he'd open a restaurant and cook all the stuff he wishes he could've when he was stuck in the apocalypse. Or, maybe, he just dies - either way now that he was doing it, it felt pretty good, thinking about how people would eat his cooking. "Diego, help me with this."
--There it is, that dreaded moment. After Luther's wedding, after they found the other side of the hotel, after they reset the universe, after everyone else left. The sinking feeling that his siblings would never get to taste his cooking again, dare he ever try to cook after that shit show, it felt worse than standing here alone, by himself, in a park on the bench hoping nobody walks by him and asks if he knows where his parents are. Truthfully, he doesn't even know what happened to his parents, neither Reginald or his biological mother.
[SOMEWHERE IN THE GODDAMN PRESENT]
He gave up on cooking, he realized it sooner or later. After opening a restaurant that was - by the way - extremely successful, he found himself trying to contact his siblings in his free time, once or twice a week, calling them then hanging up a few minutes later to make it seem like he never missed them, and the reason he was calling was only to check up on whether or not they're starting another apocalypse or something. Klaus and Diego got more calls than he'd like to admit, Diego had a family, Klaus was finally off drugs because he lost his powers, and Allison was taking care of him while Klaus was taking care of Claire; who Allison finally got back in this timeline. But that wasn't when he gave up on cooking, it was when he realized this timeline was still doomed to fail either way.
He remembered it as clearly as he remembers that stupid commission handbook, the subway, the diary, the amount of times he felt his chest tightening at the mere mention of another apocalypse, even worse, at the mention of his siblings dying, or his siblings having to die for the sake of the world. That wasn't what he wanted, it was far from what he thought the ending would look like. Maybe, for once, he could accept that he was gullible for thinking he'd ever have a happy ending, especially one that had his siblings in it. If not for his siblings abandoning him, it was him abandoning his siblings. Again.
One more thing he would never tell anyone is that he still blames himself for ending up so far into the future. At first, when he ended up in the apocalypse and couldn't teleport back in time, he thought it was his fault. Seeing his siblings bodies laying there dead and hearts investing, he thought when he jumped too far into the future, he lost all the time he could have spent with them before the apocalypse happened. It's why he wanted to stop it so badly in the first place, to be able to spend more time with his family, the only family he had. Now, he was stuck in a stupid subway with his head in his hands, shivering in one of the empty seats, using his shirt to cover him up as much as possible from the harsh temperature of the subway. Ten years. Ten years on the subway, ten years travelling different timelines, surviving, leaving, wishing for a better adventure. It was just like the apocalypse honestly, if it happened in a train that smelled weirdly like a mixed cleaning agent and a car freshener.
It was on one of those off days when he found the abandoned restaurant, well, it was abandoned when he first saw it, but it felt like the universe was actively laughing in his face when the subway chose to bring him here, though it was the only place he could stay and feel even a little bit closer to home. He stepped inside the dusty establishment, coughing as he did so, the lights were on and flickering, but he was only here to try and loot the place for food. He walked around the place, old shoes sounding against the tiled floor, senses heightened and a butter knife he found clutched tightly in his right hand.
When he opened the kitchen door, he almost lunged in surprise, well, that is if he could lunge at all, or if he could feel surprised at all. It was..another version of him, cooking a meal of some sort, like something you'd find in a shitty three star fast food restaurant, and the grease was just everywhere on that thing. "Do you mind?" The other Five cleared his throat and raised his eyebrow, staring at the Five who was holding a butter knife in his hand.
"You hungry? I could cook you something too." Waiter Five smiled, well, it wasn't really a smile, more like a small smirk pointed towards the other Five who was just standing there like a bear poked. "I'll make my own food," Five answered, clearing his throat, but his hand never let go of the butter knife at his disposal.
"Got any brisket?"

Spoiler under the cut:
HelloâI know how most people feel about the minuscule romance content, but I just wanted to take a minute to gush about Pavellan.
The voice acting here conveys a lot! Dorian sounds nervous; his partner has been gone in the South trying to contain the Blight (Which has consumed entire nations), and as we learn from the Inquisitor's letters to Rook, he's genuinely concerned his forces and refugees may starve because the Blight has killed the wildlife. I fully expect Lavellan to be unwell, all things considered.
Lavellan promises he's fine, but he doesn't sound fine. He sounds tiredâmore tired than he has during any of his cameosâand I like to imagine he's letting his guard down.
And now this letter:
Pavellan has consumed my thoughts for years, and I had to take a minute after reading this. Dorian calls this letter blind longing, and it certainly comes across as such! He likely has no idea when this letter will reach his Amatus, but it doesn't matter because the words will be true regardless of when Lavellan reads them.
The line "In this moment, and in all the moments to come, for as long as they do, I love you" feels like a call back to his romance description in the character creator: Enduring and rare.
While signing "yours" to a letter is common, the content of this letter gives that phrase so much more meaning.
And now some food for thought:
They still have the sending crystals.
I'm filled with extreme emotion - How many nights did Dorian lay awake, desperate to hear news of his lover who is contending with the Blight thousands of miles away? The same Blight that took one of his dearest friends a decade before? How often did their conversations get cut short because Lavellan needed to put out a fire - both figurative and literal?
Additionally, if you decided to aid Treviso, Could Lavellan hear when the Archdemon attacked Minrathous or when the Venatori began hunting the Shadow Dragons? Did he have to pace restlessly, his mind elsewhere despite the Darkspawn pressing in on all sides, while waiting to hear if Dorian made it safely out of the city?
Their reunion before they joined with Rook for the final battle would have been fraught with emotion. If anyone happens to have drabbles or fics about any of this (For any Inquisitor) - please pass it my way. I miss them so much.

hi welcome to my essay
is this based solely in my insane brainrot? yeah probably. iâm doing it anyway
THE TIME TAYLOR SWIFT CONFIRMED ANDERPERRY LORE
This is Josh Charles
If you donât know who he is, thatâs cool. No one does. If you do know who he is, youâre probably gay, depressed, or both. Probably both.
And this is Josh Charles in 1989, in the critically acclaimed, cult classic film Dead Poets Society
Does he look familiar? Well, if youâre big on pop culture and/or a Swiftie, he should
Because THIS is Josh Charles in 2024
in Taylor Swiftâs Fortnight music video
But whoâs that standing next to him?
Itâs Ethan Hawke
Who ALSO starred in Dead Poets Society (1989)
Kind of weird right? But whatever
UNTIL you remember that Fortnight is the first track off the latest Taylor Swift album
called The Tortured Poets Department
Now, the premise of the music video is that Taylor was in love with Post Maloneâs character but only for a fortnight and losing him after loving him is what drove her into madness basically, so sheâs been imprisoned in this asylum called The Tortured Poets Department where Josh Charles and Ethan Hawke are doctors that are experimenting on her to help her get over her love for Post Malone. Note that Post Malone is also there and is another one of the doctors.
Canonically in Dead Poets Soceity Josh Charlesâ character Knox Overstreet is in sort of this awkward situationship with a girl named Chris Noel, whoâs âpractically engagedâ to this idiot called Chet and it's assumed that after everything goes down at the end of the film, Knox stops pursuing her and Chris marries Chet to live out her horrific 1950's housewife prophecy.
Similarly, Ethan Hawkeâs character, Todd Anderson, is in this tragic queer-coded homoerotic friendship with main protagonist Neil Perry (played by the lovely Robert Sean âBobbyâ Leonard) that never manages to come to fruition because of Neilâs untimely death via suicide.
So back to Taylor. Obviously she's a patient in The Tortured Poets Department being treated for her hopeless love for Post Malone. She says she even took the "magical move-on drug" but "the effects were temporary," which implies that what Josh and Ethan are testing on her is this drug, this cure-all for lost romance, and they haven't quite figured it out.
Which makes perfect sense, when you think about what happened to Knox and Todd. They had these short-lived perfect loves with Chris and Neil respectively that ended before anything could ever happen. Love cut too short, just like Taylor and Post Malone. Which is wild when you realize that means TS basically just confirmed anderperry.
Not only this, but in the movie, the boys are encouraged to write and enjoy poetry thoroughly, and while all the boys take it to heart, Knox and Todd are the ones that are frequently seen actually writing poetry. Knox uses it to try and win Chris over, as well as working through his feelings for her, while Todd uses it as a guilty pleasure sort of thing that he's seemingly embarrassed by (which I could talk about for 25 pages but I'll spare you.)
So basically, just like Taylor, Knox and Todd are also tortured poets. Which means not only are they the doctors trying to come up for a cure for their own maladies, they're also patients in the Tortured Poets Department
THEY'RE JUST AS CRAZY AS TAYLOR.
If that seems too big a stretch, remember that Post Malone is there. From his bridge we see that he's going through the same thing as Taylor except on the opposite side, and he's also seen in the poetry room with Taylor, confirming that he himself is a poet as well, and in the lab he's also a doctor. So Josh and Ethan are patients just as much as Post Malone is, who's just as much as Taylor.
All four of them are locked in together, trying to get over these lost loves they are mourning.
By deliberately choosing not just Ethan Hawke to cameo, but also Josh Charles, and not say Dylan Kussman or Gale Hansen, or even MAIN STAR Bobby Leonard, it draws a direct parallel between Knox and Todd's characters, and therefore between Chris and Neil, and therefore, Taylor Swift has basically confirmed the ongoing implication that anderperry was the metaphor all along.
#i had to get it out#enjoy yall#dead poets society#anderperry#taylor swift#the tortured poets department

Yes allow us to be positive and excited about the possibilities!!
Q. Full disclosure the Buck/Tommy kiss brought me in but I wanted to know the story so I went back and watched the entire series and by the time I made it to season 7 Tommy was toast. It was Eddie all the way. The behavior of his fandom was also extremely off-putting. But obviously I am new to the BTS stuff, have Oliver and Ryan not always been like this? I went back and found as much BTS content as I could from last season and there definitely seemed to be an enthusiasm gap between the first half and the back half of the season, especially for Oliver. I was just curious what their norm is. Love your blog btw!!!
A. Aww thank you, anon, and welcome to the family! I promise it's usually much nicer around our parts than it has been this off season. There is nothing wrong with the B/T kiss bringing you into the fold. You did the right thing by going back and getting the context of the entire story. That particular fandom not wanting to understand or learn about Buck's character will never not be dumbfounding to me. Although the reason they refuse to go back and watch the history is because of what you said in your ask. Based on the asks I, and many others have received, much like yourself everyone who went back and watched ended up pro Eddie not pro Tommy. Because context is everything. Context is the enemy of Tommy so his fans don't want people to have it. But the ones who had been around understand the Eddie of it all and that's why they tried so hard to steal Eddie's entire characterization and headcanon it as Tommy's. Because of course they did.
As for Oliver and Ryan the short answer is no. They have not always been like they were in the early BTS of least season, and they definitely have never been the way they are now. They've been friends but they went through a rough period for a bit and have seemingly come out the other side closer than ever. I am not in the camp of people who believe that means anything romantic on their part. I just genuinely believe they love and care for one another and what they went through has made their bond stronger. I also think the chains fox very clearly constricted them with have been removed by ABC and it shows. They both seem much happier where they are now. It's one of the things that was so hard about 7b. Oliver was so excited in every single interview right up until 7x6 filming was complete, which of course was the bachelor party episode, and the last episode before the rewrites took over. We literally watched his enthusiasm die in real time and it was awful. The enthusiasm level from the cast as a whole changed entirely following episode 6. It was obvious none of them were fans of the 7b changes. Oliver was just the worst at hiding his annoyance. Oliver is like Buck in that when he is excited about something it's obvious and when he isn't happy about something it's equally obvious. He completely shut down and it made what was already turning into a massively disappointing second half of the season even more difficult to watch. I think that's partly why the Lou cameos took hold of that fandom like they did. He was the only one who seemed remotely interested in the story, such as it was. They wanted someone to fan girl with and it became very clear very quickly that person wasn't going to be Oliver. He wanted nothing whatsoever to do with it after 7x4. Which, to me, should have told that fandom something but whatever. I think Buddie was supposed to happen last season. I think they were told about it. The scripts were written and they got excited about finally getting the greenlight. But they got renewed so fast that Tim decided he wanted to slow it down, and everything got put on hold. And as a result Oliver mentally checked out. It was fairly telling when he wasn't the one doing the interviews anymore. He is their PR unicorn. He's always the first choice and they stopped sending him because it was clear he wasn't into the 7b storylines. He couldn't fake any enthusiasm for it. They sent him on one interview to promote the finale and it didn't go well. He clearly didn't want to be there. Following that interview, show wise, we didn't see him or hear from again until production started on the new season. We also never heard from Lou again shortly thereafter. And before anyone tries to start anything that was not typical behavior of Oliver so that tells you everything you need to know about how unhappy he truly was by the end of the season.
Ryan wasn't much better. He just didn't have the luxury of being left alone. He was the off-season promotion. The tone his interviews had immediately following the finale made it clear he also wasn't happy. It was an abysmal back half of the season and forcing him to try and spin it in any kind of positive way was never going to work. He couldn't be bothered to try and spin it. He didn't want to talk about it. His interviews that came later all had a distinct tonal shift in a far more positive direction. That's also when he started using gender neutral pronouns and talking about Eddie learning to love himself this season in order to be ready for his person. I believe whatever the plan was last season is what the plan now is this season. And whatever that plan is has made Oliver and Ryan both noticeably more enthusiastic and engaged. But as you know, anon, saying that out loud is both homophobic and also somehow racist so fair warning. But I'm going to be positive and I'm going to take my cues from Oliver and Ryan. I'm not going to let that fandom suck my joy anymore. I'm glad you found the show and I'm glad you've chosen to stay. Here's to a better season for us all. Cheers đ»
Thank you Nonny for dropping this into my inbox. :)
I'm not going to add anything here. I think Ali said it beautifully.
Also, shout out to a viewer who was smart enough to go all the way back to season 1 and see why we are all still here rooting for Buddie. :D

five
Oh, youâre stupid. Youâre so, so horribly stupid. Be it for the fact that you talked back to your boss, didnât follow orders, the fact that youâve been a liability twice now, oh no no- maybe the fact that you knowingly allowed yourself to get fired though youâre in debt and reallyâ you willingly walked out. Maybe itâs all of that.
Or perhaps you wish it was all of that.
You tense as your finger hovers over the small triangle, afraid to press play on the glowing screen in your lap. It taunts you like the apple of Eden, dripping with droplets of temptation that render you curious. How much longer will you wait?
You press play without second thought, burying your face to hide away in your hands, only allowing your eyes to peek on behind your fingers.
âGood Evening John yes, breaking news this evening coming out of Nueva York. Infamous OâHara Enterprisesâ CEO Miguel OâHaraâs home was broken into late last night. Police say this occurred when Mrâ OâHara was out on business, but he soon returned home to find his housemaid and six-year-old little girl shot dead in his home.â
The air thins.
Your body chills like itâs been cased in the waters of the arctic, bile rising at your throat as the blonde newscaster continues. A part of you, a very strong part is just begging you to toss your phone across the room and forget this ever happened, you canât. Youâre struck frozen when you see his face on screen.
Christ.
He looks disheveled, lost, broken. So different from the man who belittled and questioned you in his leather throne.
âMr. OâHara!! Sir!! Do you have any idea whoâs responsible!?â
âSir! Please just a word!!â
âMr. OâHara!! Mr OâHara!!â
âWas it you!? Did you have your daughter killed!?!â
You gasp, eyes pooling with shameful tears and lip quivering as you watch on screen. The once composed man, towering over everyone in sight who crowds him, turns in fury.
That look.
You know that horrible look because he gave it to you.
He didnât grab you, though. Maybe he should haveâŠ
Mr. OâHara⊠he looks like a man destroyed. You understand now that gaze beyond his anger when you mentioned his daughter. His daughter you very much thought was alive and well. Stupid you for not finding more time to fall down the rabbit hole.
You watch on screen as he grabs the newscaster by his collar and tugs him up off his feet like he weighs only but a feather. Panic ensues around him, his lawyer who wears red, round glasses and holds a metal cane is begging him to place the dangling idiot down. His jaw is tense, spitting inaudible words at him through clenched teeth. He tosses him down to the rough concrete eventually though, swiftly passing by the shocked crowd without another word once he does.
âYes John as you can see in that short video, OâHaraâs emotions were high this evening and he couldnât keep control of his temperâŠâ
They flash one final picture at the end. Itâs him. He looks lively, human⊠happy. His little girl looks so small on his shoulders, grinning from cheek to cheek like sheâs the luckiest thing in the world.
You have a strong feeling she was.
Two droplets of shame fall upon the luminous picture, your eyes staring into the dark brown orbs of a dead girl.
âMâ so sorry I didnât knowâŠâ you whisper to her, running your thumb over the glow of her cheek.
How dare you mention her? Over a stupid, hideous Christmas tree thatâs probably been torn to the ground by now. Over silly pink ribbons.
You donât know how long you sit like that, head hung in shame with an ache biting at your neck. It seems like you just have a talent for ruining the lives of people who take a chance on you⊠it saddens you.
Your mind flashes to Katerina, the anger in her eyes when she found out. The twisted wire hanger in her handâŠ
âYou deserve this! You stupid, ungrateful girl!â
Your back aches.
Though⊠by some higher grace, your darkest memories and moments are interrupted once the doorbell rings. It startles you. Not until it rings twice more. Oh, you immediately know who it is.
With a sniffle and harsh wipe at your flushed face with frayed cotton, you throw a sweater upon your shoulders and rush to the door, unlocking it with much relief.
You needed a distraction.
âUhh te tr- tra? Tra hee? un⊠un empanada!â
Miles stands with a warm foam plate in hand and a big smile plastered upon his face. Heâs proud of his attempt at Spanish. Christ, youâre grateful now more than ever that your neighbor is a kind and chatty teenager with a Hispanic mother. The plate smells delicious.
You smile warmly at him, even through your sadness, thanking him softly as you grab the plate and make your way to your countertop. He follows promptly, taking a seat on the stool and squinting once he gets a clearer look at your face.
âHave you been crying?â He asks, curiosity laced like ribbon in his voice.
ââŠno.â You whisper, opening the microwave to warm up the delectable treat in your hand. Your stomach grumbles impatiently but through your peripheral, Miles shoots his hand out in panic.
âWaitdontmicrowavethat!!â
You halt, knowing immediately why not. To be sure, you flip open the foam plate and are very much unsurprised to see a hundred-dollar bill taped to the top, adorned with a cursive note that reads: âfor groceries.â
RioâŠ
You shake your head, pulling the emerald bill out from the place where it is snugly taped before you attempt to hand it to Miles.
âNope!â He dodges your hand swiftly. Youâve done this with him before. However, you just canât today.
With a defeated suck of your pretty teeth, you shake your head.
âMiles I canât accept this, Iâm fine!â
His hands are raised in protest, âwell thatâs too bad because mom said if I come back with that hundred-dollar bill, sheâs gonna beat me with her chanclaâŠâ
Christ⊠youâd laugh if a certain CEO and his beautiful, deceased daughter wasnât loomingâ poisoning the back of your mind.
âIâ alright⊠thank you.â You breathe. You just donât have it in you to protest today, and you are beyond grateful. Besides, youâll most definitely be needing this soon, anyways.
Your response must confuse him because Miles furrows his brows, crossing his arms over his chest in overwhelming suspicion.
âNo more fighting? Alright, whatâs going on? I thought you were happy cause you got that new fancy job.â
You frown, turning your back and gathering your thoughts as you microwave the first thing youâve eaten since sunrise. You stay dead silent as it heats, only allowing yourself to respond once youâve stuffed your mouth full of a bite of warm, soft dough, meat and cheese. You nearly moan. God, Rio can cook. Itâs times like this where you truly wish you had a mother like her, growing up.
Miles is waiting, you remember.
âI got fired.â No bullshitting, no avoiding. Straight to it no matter how big the pit in your stomach is. No way to sugarcoat that with pink ribbons and pearls.
His chocolate orbs go wide, âWhat!? Itâs your first week!â
The realization makes you groan, soothing your pity with another big bite of warm comfort to drown away the reality youâre forced with, now. All by your own hand⊠or mouth, rather. How history repeats itself.
âPissed the boss offâŠâ you mumble before swallowing down the food. Another bite, and another. Miles waits anxiously for more context, and although youâre aching to forget all traces of your idiocy⊠you give it to him.
âI mentioned his daughter who is very much-â
âGoneâŠâ he interjects, âYeah, everybody knows that. It was some guys that had a vendetta against him or something. At least, thatâs what kids on the block used to say back when we were in Nueva York...â
God, does everyone know but you?
You groan, stuffing your mouth full of one last bite before burying your aching head in your hands. You slowly, far too softly and repeatedly bang it against your palms.
Miles places a comforting hand on your shoulder,
âHey, donât beat yourself up. You didnât know! Besides, working for big shots like him is a waste of time anyways. Youâll get so rich youâll leave this place and then who will my mom have to send half of her tip money to?â
You know heâs trying to cheer you up, but it only makes you groan again. You feel pathetic. Completely and utterly. Living off of credit cards now, credit cards and groceries from Rio. You never imagined your life to amount to this⊠At least youâll have a dayâs worth of pay. Itâs certainly not small.
But god, it baffles you sometimes⊠how one stupid choice led you right here. One choice took everything from you. One choice, but all your fault.
The sound of âSunflowerâ emits from Milesâ cell, and you glance at the screen to see a picture of a grinning blonde with a bob and a piercing.
Gwen.
The new neighborhood girl who skates out front sometimes, Miles has clearly taken a liking to her. You grin, and he gives you a look that stops you before you can poke any fun.
He immediately reaches to mute it, but you shake your head.
âGo. Iâm fine, promise.â Oh, youâre very much lying but, you donât let him know that. Itâs clear there is uncertainty laced in his eyes as he nods and gives you a hug, leaving the bill on the counter before making his way outside.
You shut the door with a huff, resting your forehead against the cool kiss of Decemberâs snowfall.
It feels like pins and needles have nestled all over your skin. Your anxiety plagues at your fingertips and heart and you truly wish you could just sink into your sheets and never rise again.
Every position available. You applied to every position available and were a lucky, lucky girl to land one at the highest paying company that sits in a castle above the clouds. But you were lucky then, too. Dancing. Just look how you strangled thatâŠ
You know that if you donât move from the door, youâll be glued to it⊠so you do.
Off to grab your phone to do the dreaded and delayed.
Call home.
Your finger shakes as you pick the devilâs box up from the countertop, throat constricting like a serpent has coiled around it. That would be a far better fate, youâre sure. Eyes swell with tears that you slap away with cold hands.
You did this to yourself.
Your body begs you to toss the phone, begs you not to call and to just sink into those cool sheets but⊠you have no choice.
You canât bury yourself in more debt, you canât depend on Rio, you canât depend on anyone but you. God knows that your denial of the day looming was just stupidity. Your mother told you youâd come crawling back. Today must be that horrible day that sat upon the horizon. Taunting you.
Perhaps you thought too soon.
Because maybe, just maybe your guardian angel is giving you a break, today.
A call interrupts you. A call from Cindy Moon.
Your shaky hands accidentally prompt you to pick up, body heating in embarrassment. Sheâs definitely called to confirm the news, or to shame you for your disgusting words. That must be itâŠ
With a breath of preparation, you place the phone against your dampened cheek,
âUh- hello?â You sound mousy, pathetic.
âOh, hey! I was just calling to see if you got the ornaments yet? No pressure or anything but Iâm just here at a gift shop downtown and I found some really cute ones that might go with the bow theme.â
Oh⊠lovely. She doesnât know.
You wince, pinching your skin hard enough so that your tears subside. A trick taught to you by Katerina. Well, less of a trick and more of a punishment.
âCindy⊠I donât think Iâm gonna be working with you all anymore.â You force.
She pauses and god, your fluttering heart stops as you await any response. Yet you only hear the tapping of quick fingers against a screen on the other end. Time passes deathly slow as you wait for something, anything. Youâd hang up, but this gifted agony is far better than the agony of calling home.
âHave you checked the schedule? I showed you how, right? Youâre booked for all of next week. If you werenât working with us, Mrâ OâHara wouldâve definitely voided your hours⊠actually, looks like he extended them!â
What?
No, no that canât be right...
âThere must be a mistakeâŠâ
She interrupts, âNope! Trust me, youâd know if Mr. OâHara was doneso with you. One time, a girl stole from him, and he screamed at her so loud that she had permanent ringing in her ears for the rest of her life.â
Youâre silent. Confused, baffled, amazed? You donât know. You donât find the right words to respond with, so Cindy just continues,
âDid Mr. OâHara say something? Look, heâs not a soft guy. Heâs almost fired me at least a dozen times now. Youâll get used to it. Just keep your head high and do your job without complaints and youâll last here. Promise.â
Sheâs so lively when sheâs not in the office, so much more human. Less nervous. It all makes your head spin, strikes you silent.
You have fallen at an utter loss for words, so you simply offer a, âThanks, Cindy. I will see you Monday.â Before hanging up the phone and facing it down, away from your sight.
GodâŠ
You are left with as many questions as there are ribbons on that stupid tree. Left with confusion, fear even. You are simply completely and utterly baffled.
Well, unless itâs a grave mistake on his partâŠ
⊠it seems like youâre stuck with him after all.

Fic Library: Yoongi (Pt 2)
My ult bias, it makes sense that there were too many to fit into one list. All of these authors capture the essence of my favourite tsundere king, check these stories out and show them some love. Part 1 here.
A Steamy Conversation by @madbutgloriouspond. Yoongi x f! reader. You walk in on a half-naked, dripping wet, tangerine haired Yoongi, he's mean and cocky and the inevitable happens. Smutty perfection from Memes.
Clockwork Heart by @vyduan. Yoongi x reader. The chaebol tsundere Yoongi that I'll never stop screaming about. A brilliant, capable reader, a hot Yoongi who does secret acts of kindness, and beautifully rendered side characters including wise and witty BFF Seokjin.
Knee-high by @jjungkookislife. Yoongi x reader in an established relationship. A sexy, skirt wearing, orange haired, watermelon chapstick using Yoongi with a lip piercing in a smutty, enjoyable read.
I'm not even gonna say it by @taetaespeaches. Yoongi x reader. An incredibly cute, fluffy read, where Yoongi stops for lemonade on a swelteringly hot day.
Fireworks by @starlostjimin. Yoongi x f! reader in an established relationship. A soft, fluffy, spicy story with the domestic Yoongi of my dreams.
Too hot to sleep by @gamerguk. Fiance Yoongi x reader - a short, smutty read with a hilarious cameo from Hobi at the end.
The Sweetest Thing by @illneverrecover. A super cute sweet treat featuring a grumpy florist Yoongi and a baker reader.
Kinkmas Day Four drabble by @monimonimoon. A deliciously hot, petty co-worker Yoongi at the office Christmas party.
On the nature of living by @sugalaritae. Griddle's an incredible writer, and this very beautiful story starts off with Yoongi x a ghost reader and resonates so much with me emotionally.
Home by @junghelioseok. Secret agent AU with Yoongi x reader. Short, sweet and comforting.
Set me free by @hesperantha. A time-travel tale with tragedy of epic proportions. You won't have read anything else quite like it.
The one with Yoongi, Netflix and zero chill by @eoieopda. A hilarious reader, a fluffy and cuddly Yoongi and softness and feelings all round.
Yoongi is a rock by @yoongsisbae. A beautifully written story that made me think about mortality and constancy and has the singularly beautiful line âAnd when Yoongi cracked he thought of youâ. It gives me chills remembering it. Stunning.
The one with Yoongi and the fucking hydrangeas by @eoieopda. I knew I was in for angst when I started reading but I didn't bank on the beautifully realised longing and characters I wanted to cry for. I adore this.
Best served cold by @anotherbtswriter. Yoongi and afab reader in a mafia AU with drama, tsundere Yoongi energy and a duplicitous family. Riveting.
Bao by @whatifyoulivelikethat. Delivery boy Yoongi x chef reader. One of the first Yoongi stories I read, and have re-read so many times since then. This Yoongi's so perfectly characterised, and there's a cameo from a sexy model Taehyung too.
Dominance and Domesticity by @theharrowing. A Yoongi who doms you in the bedroom and also does ironing? Where do I sign up? Sexy perfection.
Cybersex by @gimmethatagustd. Yoongi x f! reader. Reader is a phone sex hotline operator in this brother's best friend AU. Featuring a hot, confident, capable Yoongi who nearly set my screen on fire.
Shameless by @vyduan. Idolverse AU with Yoongi and reader. A stunning story, part of the Her multiverse series, with complex, layered characters that are so beautifully human. One of the first stories I read when I started reading BTS fanfic, and one I won't forget.

tsv season 2 is banger after banger so far.
e17 was fantastic - love that the least awful god we've met so far is a god of peaceful deaths and burying the dead, seems fitting for this setting. Sarah Golding as Sister Acantha was great, love hearing UK regional accents and very fitting to this side character - and of course opposite her, MĂ©abh de BrĂșn is knocking it out of the park as she always does, i have got to find out what else she's been in because i am so blown away by her range.
episode 18 gives us another strong 'civilised' sacrifice story, absolutely nailing the affable indifferent cruelty of the toffs there - more excellent voice acting, i love how put out the son gets that his party gets spoiled. recurring theme that, if you start out poor, trying to succeed on the system's terms is just serving yourself up on a plate. although it's hard to hit the highs of episode 7, especially without the complicity of Paige as the emotional dimension - we kinda know what's going to happen by this point - I appreciate here that when it revisits a theme, they are taking pains to include some new wrinkle or extra dimension. we're slowly fleshing out the political structure of this world, without being overbearing with it.
it's funny, i was joking about being weirdly proximate to podcasting celebrity johnny sims the other day, but I was not expecting him to cameo in episode 19. dude really gets around. it kind of throws me because he has such a distinctive voice that you can't hear him in a scene without it being like Oh, Johnny From The Mechanisms is here! especially since he's playing the exact kind of condescending evil-scientist character that could easily show up in any mechs album. (i am going to insist on calling him that even if i get around to TMA, less for any particular love for the mechs but more because it amuses me to forever define him by a semi-obscure, deeply nerdy band from Oxford.) I will say again that Slay the Princess was really onto something in having you spend most of the game antagonising the Johnny who's doing that voice.
foley work is getting better and better too.
need to find out if there's any canonical appearance info on the characters in this series, because I'm increasingly feeling fanart would be a fun thing to do.

I was kinda thinking about the future of Tommy. We can be sure that the character will come back for S8. Tommy was supposed to be there for only 4 episodes and that he already has been there for more.
As for now, Tommy has been seen in 7x03, 7x04, 7x05, 7x6 and 7x9 and he also was in the Finale.
For one, Lou and Oliver did an interview together and we can assume it's not the only one. You don't ask your actor to do a 5 minute interview in which they barely talk about the show (also I think that the host made the interview awkward and both Lou and Oliver were picking a bad vibe.) Also, this interview was done late this season. Tommy came back in 7x03 and kissed Buck in 7x04. Yes, both Lou and Oliver did interviews but none of them were together and it wasn't on set. As for now, the Access Hollywood interview was the second interview that Oliver did on set, the first one being the Zach show. The rest were by zoom or other facecams ways. As for Lou, it's the only interview that was recorded. Everytime he did an interview, it was for an article and we never had the audio.
Also, Lou does cameo, and if you have a problem with the price I don't think it's his fault I think he put them at the lowest he can but the site up the prices because of the demands. Simple economy lesson, the more there will be demands the less the offer will meet the demands and so in order to change that the price changes. More on the cameo part, Lou has changed the way he does cameo. When he used to talk about Tommy, he would talk freely about him, his cameo would be pretty straightforward and he even made a backstory for Tommy, which I love because as someone who likes to do some deep dives on a character's psyche, the backstory explains a ton. But recently, his demeanor changed. He did a cameo in which he was more vague and kept looking to the sides as if there was something or someone reminding him to "behave".
Another thing, Lou was added in a video the cast did for Instagram. A video that had everyone, minus Peter and Angela, might be exempt from social media because Angela is less active than the rest and Peter is non-existent (Thank you Kenny for giving us proof that Peter is still alive with your Tiktok or Instagram posts). Also, Tim had posted a BTS that was just a frame of Tommy and that could mean something.
But I also want to talk about something, the contract. When Tommy came back, Lou said that he was only there for 4 episodes. And that might be right, at the time. Upon seeing the reaction about Tommy and maybe seeing how well the producers seem to like Lou, his contract for S7 has been extended for two more episodes, including the finale. It doesn't make sense for someone like Lou who keeps talking about how good he feels on the 9-1-1 set to not ask to extend his contract.
But then what would happen in S8? I don't think Lou would or should get promoted to the main cast, regular at least. It doesn't come from some kind of hate for Tommy or Lou, I really like them both, but more in a storytelling point.
The show is a workplace drama meaning that the job is not only important but also kind of its own character. 9-1-1 also focuses on three jobs instead of one as other shows, like The Rookie, Station 19, Grey's Anatomy for instance, tend to do. On 9-1-1 we mostly focus on the 118, LAFD but also on the 911 operator and the LAPD. The show is mostly focused on the 118. Having Tommy as main would shake things up, it would add another station to focus on or have drastically more calls that will need air support but we would also need to introduce other characters from Harbor and I think the show would be too stacked. The only way to properly focus on Harbor would be to maybe have a spin-off focus on them with either Tommy as main character or as regular. Having Tommy a main on his show would cut down on his timescreen on 9-1-1 and thus impact the Buck/Tommy relationship; we saw that happen with Carina/Maya on Station 19/Grey's for instance.
Also if you're one of these people that think that the cast hates Lou. Oliver has only said nice things about him in interviews, Tracie has told that Lou was lovely when she went on live on the 9-1-1 Instagram page and Kenneth has been good friends with Lou since he was in S2. And if you think that Oliver hates Lou because he doesn't follow him on Instagram that would mean that Oliver also hates Tracie and Anirudh because he doesn't follow either of them. On Instagram, Oliver follows only the main cast of 9-1-1 and he seems to use his Instagram as more of a professional account. His posts are mostly show related, contrary to his stories in which he shares mostly his dogs.
Now as the main cast the easier way for them to add a character in the main cast would have them to either work at the 118, the LAPD, or the Dispatch center. It would be less likely to have someone work for the LAPD, the focus is more on Athena and she said multiple times that she hates working with someone. The Dispatch center could work better and we could up certain characters, like Linda or Josh, as main. That would work better. They are already existing characters that the public loves. We need more of them. The last case would have someone from the 118. They could either introduce someone new or push Ravi to main. Which would seem less likely. Anirudh seems to be the busiest actor in the show. I think he also got cast in another show and is also doing other shows outside of 9-1-1. He also seems to keep time to travel outside of work. You go King. Ravi as main would be possible, but it would also shake a lot from Anirudh's busy schedule.
Now, another character that fans have been begging for as main character is Karen. That would be trickier. If we follow my logic, you are free to disagree but be nice! Karen is neither from LAPD, Dispatch or the 118. She's Hen's wife and a rocket scientist. But that doesn't mean we wouldn't see more of her. 9-1-1 always showed us the characters' life outside of work. But since Hen is the only one from the main cast who has no one from her family as main, we saw less from her which is criminal. Maddie is with Chimney and both are main. Same for Bobby and Athena. Eddie and Chris are also part of the main cast, and Gavin seemed to have been pushed a little bit more upfront since he was part of the group promo for the season. As for Buck, for a while he had Taylor who had kinda her own thing and Tommy who also has his own thing.
Buck and Hen are in the same case, they both have their love interests that are not part of the main cast. Buck only Abby back in S1 but it mostly feels like Buck was the love interest since he was nowhere as important as he is now, same for Chimney.
But one thing that we saw in S7 is that Karen can be more important. She was there for when Hen came home after being demoted. Also the Mara storyline felt like it was more of a Karen and Hen than a Hen and Karen storyline and I would love to see more of Karen in S8. Honestly, I feel like she was in more episodes this season than she was in any others.
So now that I shared my thoughts you can share yours. Be nice or you will be blocked. There is too much unnecessary hate in the fandom for any characters and actors. I'm not going to tolerate people's shits.

"I won't be gone long," Casey promised. "It's only a few things."
"Still, it's your first time buying groceries alone," Leo mumbled, the tap tap tap of his crutch echoing against the floor. He didn't always need it, but some days were harder than others. "I could go with --"
"No," Casey interrupted him, holding a hand up and stopping Leo in his tracks. "If I'm ever going to figure out how to live in this time period, then I need to learn to do these things on my own."
"Sheesh, alright!" Leo joked. "And don't say 'time period', this isn't the Victorian era! It's only what, 20-plus years into the past? Time period. Woof! You make it sound like we're ancient wizards or something..."
Casey laughed at the idea. The only one he could truly call a 'wizard' was Mikey, but he hadn't really gotten to that stage just yet. Mage, yes. Wizard? Maaaaybe in a few months, if he kept up the training with Draxum.
Casey and Leo went over the list one more time, adding one or two last-minute items that Leo suddenly thought of as they made their way to the exit. Casey stuffed the list into his pants before shoving a large and slightly oversized jacket over himself, struggling slightly with the arms.
"Don't forget your hat and earmuffs," Raph reminded him as he walked past. "It's really cold out today."
"Gotchya," Casey nodded, handling the earmuffs like they're some new and exotic species. "We didn't really have cold weather in the future..."
"Really?" Leo asked, his head tilting to the side. "What were winters like?"
"I dunno, like 60 degrees at the lowest?" he shrugged. "What with all the planetary devastation and laser blasts and global warming... weather became sorta nonexistent."
Raphael shuddered at the thought of such a thing. No weather meant no rain, no snow, maybe even no real wind or cloudy days.Â
"Well, try to be home soon okay? I think there's a call for heavy snow later."
"Sure thing," Casey replied, half-paying attention to Raph as he walked out the door. After all, this is the past, and everyone has it so cushy! There's nothing dangerous here except for idiot muggers and a few mutants. What could possibly go wrong?
"And don't forget the mittens!" Raph called after him. Casey walked back into the lair, retrieved his gloves, and then walked back out.
ââșââ â âșââ â ââș â
Casey Jones Jr was starting to really like New York City, circa 2020. It was a different kind of hectic, but Casey had lived his entire life in chaos.
Instead of dodging missiles, he was dodging taxi cabs.
Instead of wild krang dogs, there were people walking a dozen angry chihuahuas and poodles and dobermans to earn money.
Instead of corpses laid to waste on the ground, there were a few homeless people sleeping in cardboard boxes.
Differences with small similarities.
The biggest difference was the turtles. Sensei Leonardo was no longer a tall and hulking king of the apocalypse with a robot arm who took no slack from anyone or anything -- he was now an ego-stripped teenager with a knee that had been so twisted up that it counted as a physical condition and they could qualify for disabled parking with the tank. Master Michelangelo was no longer someone who looked older than time and could create lavish magic spells with a flip of his hand, but an untrained child with an unbridled adoration for drawing and reality cooking shows. Uncle Tello was not the cybernetic scientist in overalls with a hundred extra technological advancements, but a nerdy teenager with 'secret' plans for anarchy against the US government. Raphael... well... Casey couldn't remember Raph firsthand. There were some photographs and video recordings of him, a few stories passed down, but the big red giant had been killed in action a few years after Casey Jr was born.
But this time period -- er, the past was still nice. It was crazy how many people he recognized. Baron Draxum, Commander O'Neil, Master Splinter, Todd 'The Sasquatch' Capybara, Big Mama... Casey would just be walking down the street and he'd see a couple with a child, and he'd realize the kid was one of the medics that helped him when he'd broken his leg. He would be buying pizza and the cashier was one of Uncle Tello's tech apprentices. In the Hidden City, an octopus Yokai would offer to sell him some mystic potion and Casey would recall they were one of the cooks in the mess hall who always gave him extra portions to help him grow, even when rations were low.
Casey reached the end of memory lane when he found the grocery store he'd been looking for. He casually walked inside just as a few unnoticed flakes of white began to fall from the sky above him.
"Hello, and welcome to the Stock & Shop!" an older woman greeted. "Holler if you need anything!"
Casey nodded with a smile as he started to gather everything on the list.
Chicken soup: got it.
New batteries for the remote: donezo.
Flaming-hot chips: three bags procured.Â
Four different brands of soda: orange blast for Mikey, sugar-free cola for Raph, flavourless juice for Donnie, and diet blueberry bubble waters for Leo. Check.
Popcorn for movie nights: not yet.
The popcorn in question was placed on a hard-to-reach shelf high above him. Of course, this one particular brand that Mikey so desperately needed was at the very top. As Casey was reached up for the requested snack, a voice chimed in behind him.
"Better hurry, there's supposed to be a wicked snowstorm tonight!"
Casey jumped back, startled by the sudden sound. He looked down and saw a short, scrawny kid with a comparatively huge head looking up at him.
"Oh, hey. You look familiar...?"
"This is my parent's store, I work here all the time. Or maybe you've seen my videos? My channel? STOCKBOii?? Cybersleuth??"
"Stockboy? As in Baxter Stockboy?" Casey wondered, his eyes widening as the corners of his mouth turned up.
"Yeah! You've heard of me?" the child asked excitedly.
"Kind of," Casey replied, not exactly sure how to explain that Baxter had worked as one of Donatello's apprentices to create warships and mechas during the golden age of the Resistance, despite Sensei's reluctance. "I heard about the whole 'Mutant Menace' fiasco."
Baxter groaned loudly.
"Uggggh, that whole thing. My parents still won't let me leave the house unsupervised. It's ridiculous! One mass panic and riot instigation, and they turn on me! At least the judge agreed to let me work off community service in the store..."
Casey smirked just a little.
"Hmm. Anyway, you said something about a snowstorm?"
"Oh, right. The weather report says it might get up to two inches."
"What might get up to two inches?"
"Um... the snow? Look, it's started snowing already!"
Baxter Stockboy pointed out towards the front entrance. A small sprinkling of white could just barely be visible beyond the glass.
"Oh," Casey shrugged. "Doesn't look too bad."
"You say that now, but it's supposed to get below 30Âș Farenheit!"
"Oh. That is kinda cold," Casey agreed. "...But I'm sure it'll be okay."
ââșââ â âșââ â ââș â
Ten minutes had passed.
Raphael received a notification from the weather app, informing that the previously predicted 'heavy snowfall' was now a full-blown snowstorm.
That probably wasn't good. But it wasn't terrible, either. Just some snow.
"Boys, it looks like tomorrow is another snow day!" he announced to the rest of the Hamatos.
From various rooms in the lair, Raph heard them shout in excitement.
"Yes!"
"Alright!"
"Snow day, hooRAY, baby!"
Raph smiled. He couldn't wait to introduce Casey to his first snowfall...
ââșââ â âșââ â ââș â
Casey had finally gotten all the items on the list and was preparing to check-out, when an announcement went over the loudspeakers.
"Attention shoppers -- we encourage all patrons to finish up their errands, as we will be closing soon due to the weather. Thank you."
Huh. They sure were getting all riled up over this 'snow' stuff. Casey had witnessed a few storms before in the months prior, but it was never too bad. Thunderstorms were freaking terrifying, but only because they were loud and Casey's first thought was always that an air attack was happening. But he loved watching lightning. It reminded him of a few magic spells Master Michelangelo had performed on occasion...
Casey finished up the last of his errand and purchased the items. He needed a little help when trying to decide on paper or plastic, and for a moment he forgot the pin number for the card Splinter had given him, but other than that all had gone well.
He stepped out of the store, the glass doors sliding past him gracefully.
And he was greeted by a harsh blast of cold. It almost knocked him over, the icy wind biting his face so much he dropped the bags of groceries in order to cover his face with his regrettably un-mittened hands.
Okay. He was starting to see what people meant now. He hurriedly pulled his mittens on and scrambled to cover as much of his head as he could with his hat and earmuffs.
It had been cold these past few months, sure, but not like THIS! This was arctic.
And what's more, the sky was raining ash. That only ever happened when Uncle Tello sent missiles to blow the Krang vessels to kingdom come. So why was no one terrified, or hiding? Besides, there were no more Krang ships to incinerate. So then, what was...?
Casey happened to glance to the side and saw a kid sticking their tongue out. Their parents did the same. They caught a few of the flakes on the tips of their tongues, laughing as they shivered. Casey watched in wonder. He held a hand out. A single fleck of white flittered down to his palm, delicately touching down onto him, and melting upon impact with the glove. Casey was gently bewildered. He looked up at the sky. The heavens above were masked over with clouds of grey, hiding the universe from him, guarding him from the wonders he couldn't understand or comprehend. And yet, the universe deemed this wonder fit for him to comprehend?
Casey's mouth hung open as he gazed at the sky, confused. Snowflakes fell against his cheeks, his eyelashes, his lips, his chin. He stuck out his tongue and closed his eyes. It took a few minutes, but finally he felt one land and melt in his mouth.
...Underwhelming, if he was honest.
It was just water. He kind of expected a flavour.
The wind suddenly whipped against him. It had calmed for the brief moments that Casey stood there, but now was circling back in full fury. Casey gasped at the fierce chill, bundling himself up more and more before gathering the supplies and shuffling back to the lair. The wind swirling around him, the snow raining down with a vengefulness.
ââșââ â âșââ â ââș â
Twenty minutes had passed.
Raph had started to feel like he was forgetting something. He wasn't sure what, though...
Donnie had re-fortified the lair and central heating system, so now it would stay extra cozy despite the freezing temperatures outside. You could hear the wind start to roar if you went to the exterior tunnels and big exit door.
Raph remembered how in the early years when they were all teeny tiny turtle tots, Splinter had them all stay in the same room to conserve heat. He'd set up tons of heat lamps and space-warmers, bundle each one in extra-fuzzy blankets... Looking back, he could clearly see the panic that Splinter would be hiding at the idea that maybe they could all freeze to death if they weren't careful, or maybe that the power would go out when they weren't expecting it and he'd only have a few minutes to come up with a plan before hypothermia could creep in like a ghost. It was probably extra terrifying considering that they had minor cases of brumation when it got way too cold. They got better at combating it, wearing warm clothes to help stay warm. And it helped that they also had some minor mammalian DNA too, meaning that they had to be utterly and agonisingly cold for brumation to actually take effect.Â
Still. Raphael had mad respect for Splinter now. He'd kept his cool and kept his calm, never once displaying the fear that probably filled his mind day in and day out. Raph wished he knew how to do that...
ââșââ â âșââ â ââș â
Was Casey even going the right way?? He couldn't tell anymore.
The downpour of snow particles was starting to get so heavy that Casey couldn't even see ten feet in front of him, even with his mask on. Constantly blinded, he relied mostly on the lights from cars or neon signs to help guide him down the sidewalk. He couldn't remember the last time something like this had happened...
Maybe... during the dust storm incident. Sensei and Casey were in a losing battle against the Krang one day and in a sheer panic, Leonardo portaled them away and into some random place far, far away. Leonardo had initially assumed it was some inhospitable desert in the middle east or something, based on how much sand and wind there was. But after a quick look at the tracking device Donatello had installed, they realized that it was actually just New Mexico. Or, what was left of it. Sensei Leonardo had sent them right smack-dab in the middle of a dust storm, where the drought-riddled land had become so dry that the wind created massive walls of dirt and dust that engulfed everything. It could suffocate you, dehydrate you, blind you, etc. The might've died if Leonardo hadn't thought quickly and found a shelter for them to hide out in. He'd dropped one of his swords during the storm, so the two were forced to wait it out. Sensei Leonardo never did find that other sword. He'd had to create a new one with his ninpo.
Anyway, this snowstorm felt like the exact opposite of the dust storm.
Rather than hot and dry, this was cold and wet. But the stabbing sensations of small things constantly flying into you was the same. The wind that threatened to carry you away was the same. The loneliness was the same.
Casey was convinced that he'd gotten turned around somehow... He wasn't sure where he was.
Forget being able to see ten feet away, he could barely see his own hands in the storm!
This was not good. Casey reached up, feeling around his mask for a specific button that would activate a distress beacon. He'd modified it so that Donnie's tech could receive the call, and hopefully it would go through. But if the storm was as severe as it felt, then it was possible that the lines would be down and the lair's internet access and phone lines wouldn't get the message.
Casey found the button. He'd have to hope that they'd get the signal.
He pressed it, and then pressed on, hoping that he could find his way home on his own...
ââșââ â âșââ â ââș â
Thirty minutes.
The lair was starting to get terribly frigid. Raph waltzed into the kitchen, shuddering from the chill as he did, hoping that maybe Mikey would start making something hot to eat and that in turn would warm up the kitchen. He only found Leo in there, swirling a mug of hot cocoa that he'd heated up.Â
"Brr-rr-rr, it's cold! I thought Donnie fixed the heat?"
"He did, but it's still pretty frigid," Leo sighed. "I'm starting to get worried..."
"You think the power might go out?" Raph asked.
"No, I'm wondering where Casey is."
Casey?
OH SHOOT, CASEY.
"Raph completely forgot that Casey was out!" Raph screamed, hands flying through the air. "I thought he came back fifteen minutes ago! You mean he's still out there?!"
"Relax, it's just snowing. Not that big of a deal," Leo said as he took a long sip of cocoa from his mug.
"Leo, you do realize that Casey's never seen snow before?!" Raph reminded him. "And this ain't no ordinary gentle snowfall, this is practically a blizzard!"Â
Raph huffed angrily before rushing to the lair entrance. He grabbed a coat, some galoshes, a scarf, gloves, snowpants -- the whole shebang. Leo followed casually, sipping his cocoa gently as he walked after him.
"Where'ya goin'?" he asked with a smile.
"I'm goin' after Casey, of course!" Raph yelled.
"Do you know where he is?"
"I got him right here on the little tracker thingy."
Raph held out his phone to display to Leo the small signal coming in from Casey Jr's mask.
"Mhm," Leo hummed. "Okay. Well, when you get back, maybe bring home a pizza too."
"Leo, can you be serious about this?!"
"Okay, fine. When you find him, call me and I'll portal the two of you home. Okay?" Leo suggested. "No sense trudging through the cold back and forth."
"Great, thanks," Raph grumbled before running out the door, pulling his collar up to prepare for the wind and wet.
Raphael ducked out. Down the corridors, up a ladder to the top of the street. He pushed the manhole cover aside with ease. He was instantly met with a barrage of wind and ice, the snow and slush that had been atop the cover sliding down and splashing onto his face.
Raph sputtered softly, wiping his face off before heading into the fray...
ââșââ â âșââ â ââș â
Casey was huddled against something. A wall, a stone, a tree, a car -- he could hardly tell. It was so cold, his skin felt like it was peeling off. His eyes stung from the wind, his feet ached from the chill, his arms hurt from the cold and from carrying all the groceries with him this whole time. The straps on the plastic bags were digging into his arms, cutting off his circulation. It was so windy and loud, he couldn't hear the traffic of the city anymore. His jacket was coated in white.
He'd hoped that he could shield himself with whatever he was leaning against, but the wind came from all sides.
It was terrifying. Being alone. He hadn't felt alone like this in so long...
He remembered sitting alone, like this, long ago...
The wind whipping around, the sky dark, the battlefield torn and scarred, white flakes of ash raining down from above. It was cold that day, too. Casey couldn't be older than four years old at the time.
The ground was covered in grey and white from all the ash and cinder. Casey was covered in the powdery residue himself, his face white as a sheet, his messy and greasy hair holding in the flakes and embers from the explosion that had decimated the world around him.
But the worst was the silence that followed. Nothingness. Loneliness. Agony.
Casey started crying. Four years old, having watched the world end, having seen his mother die, and so many of her comrades, and only to be left alone and scared? Of course he was crying.
In the distance, a figure began to move. Casey gasped, trying to cover his mouth and keep silent as the looming creature lumbered towards him. The monster was huge, it must be a krang mecha or --
"Casey?"
He recognized that voice. It wasn't Sensei, but it was just as comforting.
"Casey, where you? Casey!"
The child meant to answer. But his voice was lost in his own throat.
"Casey! I see you! I'm coming, kid, I'm coming!"
Casey reached out for the Red Giant to take him home... The silhouette of his figure in the smoke and smog that surrounded them...
But as the figure stepped through the fog, it wasn't a red giant.
"Casey! There you are!! I was so worried, what happened?!"
Casey Jones Jr was taken back to the present moment, and stared at Raph in shock.
"R-Raph..?"
"Geez, Case, you look frozen solid! Are you okay?"
Casey nodded softly, getting back up on his feet as Raph gave him a hand.
"I'm fine," he whispered. "It... it, uh, started snowing."
"Yeah, I see that," Raph chuckled. "Sorry, we had no idea it would get so bad."
"It... it's okay," Casey responds quietly. "How did you find me?"
"Well the snow's dying down a bit, so it ain't as hard to see," Raph mentioned as he pointed up. Casey did notice that during his anxiety attack, the wind has calmed a bit more and the downpour of frozen particles was much gentler. "Besides, the tracker helped. Although, I am curious how you managed to get all the way into Central Park?"
"Wha-huh?" Casey gaped, turning around and examining the area.
He had been huddled against a tree trunk, and a few feet off in the distance was a playground. Ahead of him was the cityscape, behind him the rest of the wooded little area.
"Wow. I didn't realize that I came this far..."
Raph chuckled as he grabbed the groceries from the ground.
"So, you ready to get home? All I gotta do is call Leo and we can be back in the lair with some hot chocolate!"
Casey glimpsed at the park behind them. It was... actually quite lovely.
It was a magical world, sparkling and quiet. Undisturbed. Serene.
Raph noticed Casey's stare and looked back at the scene, smiling knowingly.
"It sure it pretty, ain't it?"
"...It's peace," Casey awed. "It's absolute peace. This... I've never seen anything like it before."
Raph took in a deep breath, inhaling the peace with gratitude for a world that could give you something so gorgeous after something so terrible.
"Yeah. It's really beautiful. Tell ya what, the guys can wait for a bit. Want me to show you around the Winter Wonderland for a bit?"
Casey nodded with a dumbfounded smile on his face.
The two walked out into the park together, enjoying the peace that they both had fought tooth and nail for.

In conclusion: This is a great gay suspense thriller with several solid couples, fun plot, killer characters, queer rep, and a happy ending. Charn may be my favorite lead character of 2023. However, this show is not entirely BL, more on the fringe, like Manner of Death. Add that to several "singing incidents" and pairs being a little weak in the chemistry arena, and this lands safely in 9/10 territory. Itâs tons of fun tho: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.Â
I Feel You Linger in the Air (Sat grey) ep 3 of 12 - This show is getting more and more lakorn each ep. Apparently the straights are having a class divide arranged marriage crisis. Who cares? Our boy is ALWAYS in trouble. Crazy that he has to save the people who betrayed him in a previous life - but I guess he chose revenge! That's unexpected.
Had to switch to grey and couldnât find a working rip. It was frustrating and I wouldnât have bothered except I like this show so much. Still, it means no screen caps because the rez is naff.
Dangerous Romance (Fri YT) ep 3 of 12 - Uh oh. Kang wants to save Sailom and be his hero. The fact that Kâs Pa puts no pressure on him whatsoever, makes me wonder if K's Ma committed suicide or something? Itâs definitely the opposite parental dynamic we normally see in BL. I have to say, the pacing is great in the show. And the acting is on point. Itâs really great.Â
Hidden Agenda (Sun YT) ep 8 of 12 - these two just kiss well. I mean not "rip your clothes off Taiwan-style," but sweet young boyfriends-esk. Joke wants to be claimed so bad. Itâs great. I enjoyed this ep, unfortunately it looks like we have a manufactured angst drama drop in the next episode. Is this a 10 episode arc? I thought it was 12. Itâs odd to have doom happening next episode already.
Only Friends (Sat YT) ep 4 of 10 - Back story time! Ray and Mew are HARD to watch. Incestuous friend group gay is the worst. Omg I got such QAF vibes from this ep. Nick Boston Sand chats = very throw back 90s gay soaps.Â
Location game moment: Top's hotel room is also Chanâs apartment in Laws Of Attraction.Â
Naughty Babe (Sat YT) ep 1 of 8 - Ooo. Est is back! Hi handsome. Head of security suits you. Please lead out the new Waterboyy remake? Youâre perfect for the role. (If it must happen.)Â Yiâs Pa is GREAT. Please give daddy a nice boy? Could that be our secondary couple for this series?Â
Meanwhile, with the leads (sorry I was distracted by daddy) we got us an arranged marriage, run away bride, and an amnesia trope. Put in a secret baby and it's squarely 1980's Harlequin. Will there be Vikings? Sex herbs? Pirates? Dub con?
Be Mine Super Star (Mon Viki) ep 9 of 12 - Again with lovely sex scenes, itâs just the plot stringing them together is frayed. Also donât fuck in an onsen. Both yech and ouch.
That goes for all yâall. Â
Wedding Plan (Wed YT & iQIYI) ep 7fin - Trash watch here! Honestly this was an okay ending, Iâm not mad at it. If you can tolerate Mame and liars (kinda the same thing) youâll be fine with this show.
Summation: An innocent wedding planner falls haplessly and hopelessly in love with a groom who relentlessly pursued him, even though heâs about to marry someone else. A somewhat lackluster mame offering with less of the usual stellar chemistry, but all of the usual lies and manipulation. 7/10
Love in Translation (Sat iQIYI) ep 3 of 10 - I skip everything to do with Tammy and itâs fine. Thereâs only about 20 minutes of fine but thatâs more than enough. On the bright side. So far. No singing.
My Universe (Sun iQIYI) ep 2 of 24 eps - Cassanova Begins Part 2. Aw. It was sad. Another variation on the âmy ghost boyfriendâ trope (usually sad). 2/10 I don't do sad BL.
Next up is Merry Go Round featuring the pair from Destiny Seeker (we likey) who want to marry each other, but end up fake engaged to the same woman. Beard squared? Looks silly.
Crazy Handsome Rich (Sun Gaga) ep 1 of 10 - There are 2 things I like about this. I bet you can guess what they are.
Lee Long Shi
The whipping boy trope
There wasnât enough of either in this first ep. ALSO the captions, sound effects, and voice over are truly next level bad. Utterly atrocious.
The 2 leads fucking around in the end credits was the funniest part of the whole show.Â
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
Jun & Jun (Korea Thur Viki) ep 7 of 8 - I am confused and frustrated about what the communication delay is between the two Juns. It feels artificial and narratively manufactured. But since this is a short form KBL and I know it will be resolved quickly, Iâm not as annoyed as I would be if this were Thai BL. Still it feels audience manipulative. I also feel sorry for Simon. BUT it looks like itâll be a sweet boyfriends final episode.
Stay By My Side (Taiwan Fri Gaga) ep 10fin - Omg theyâre so cute!!! Taiwan the purveyors of ultimate sappy gay domesticity. I am going to miss having these to nonsencing all over my dash.
This show was an interesting take on the "ghost boyfriend" trope. About a boy who is tormented by hearing the dead, except when he is around one other boy - desperation+proximity = love. Unfortunately, the story was erratic and waffled about. While the leads turned in solid performances and the sappy domesticity was off the charts, it never really had the strength of the narrative convictions such a strong concept should have supplied. Highly rewatchable and enjoyable for that sappy domesticity but not a whole lot more. Still I always give extra credit for the diabetes-inducing sugar content and rewatch capacity. 8/10Â
Kisseki: Dear to Me (Taiwan Tues Viki & iQIYI) eps 3 of 13(?) - I love the punching thing - there is a lot of violent flirting in this show. Iâm not mad about it. Ugh, poor thing has real abandonment issues. And now trust issues. I see why weâre getting 12-14 eps. This gonna be MESSY.
Meanwhile, does EVERYONE have a guest cameo? Not that Iâm complaining. Hi BLIHID boys! Now I need to rewatch that show.Â
Love Class Season 2Â (Korea Fri Viki) eps 7-8 of 10 - Oh my God the next morning w/ couple 2 was so darn cute. They are all such terrible flirts with each other. Honestly, this show makes me laugh more than any other BL currently airing. Iâm not sure it is meant to be as funny as I find it. While couple 3 (the mature characters) is by far my favorite, I actually think they donât work with the other two pairs, they feel superfluous to the show. I like the show better because theyâre in it, but it feels like two different BLâs stuck together. KBL certainly canât handle more than two couple threads at the same time.Â
Why R U? (Korea Wed iQIYI) eps 3-4 of 8 - Ugh. I am such a sucker for the FighterTutor dynamic. Why so good? Uh oh. Real kiss! KBL you're spoiling us. But, isnât sad-seme-hyung dating some chick? Argh. Poor Sunwoo. This show is even worse at repping Fighter's character sympathetically. Who knew that was possible?
My Personal Weatherman AKA Taikan Yoho (Japan Sat Gaga) ep 3 of 8 - The date episode! Even Japan is doing it now. And these two who have been living/fucking together for ages still dance around each other like junior high kids. I gotta say, I watch this one twice because Vicki has different subs from Gaga. I feel like itâs easier to understand if I watch two different translations of the same script. But itâs still quite a taciturn piece.Â
Minato's Laundromat Season 2 AKA Minato Shouji Coin Laundry Season 2 (Japan Thu Gaga) ep 8 of 12 - Sides are great. It was mostly a cute ep with tiny bits of Progress and a proper Confession. I miss Shinâs siblings. And then⊠the much loathed amnesia trope. Really?
Everyone say it with me: Must you, Japan?Â
Stay Still (Hong Kong Tues YouTube) ep 5fin - It ended happier than I was expecting. Optimistic for one couple, and most likely optimistic for the other.
Summation: What to say about this offering from Hong Kong? Itâs different, a mix of early CBL, Taiwanese shorts, and Pinoy visuals. It felt like the story was 2 independent shorts that had been lengthen and then stuck together, and I wish they'd been approached as separate and tighter entities. Nevertheless, this was a complex little piece, interesting in a sweaty grungy way, with a certain aura of queer authenticity that made it simultaneously tense, unpredictable, and refreshing. Iâm not sure I would necessarily call it BL, but any countyâs early foray into the genre usually starts out this way, so perhaps nascent BL? Worth watching, especially if you enjoy stuff from the Philippines and Taiwan. 7/10
In case you missed it
Dinosaur Love ended its run but the final 2 eps are behind a paywall. Word on the street is they aren't good anyway (shocker) so I'm marking it as DNF and moving on with my life. If I can find em grey I'll watch 'em merely so I can give it a rating, but I can't imagine it will get more than 5/10. Seriously, do not bother.
Next Week Looks Like This:
Coming September
9/15 You Are Mine (Taiwan Gaga) Secretary has to deal with grumpy boss.
9/15 Bump Up Business AKA Bump Up Project (Korea movie) suspected cinema release? I don't know much about what's going on. Last status update. Love story between a trainee who is about to debut and a celebrity from the same agency. Kpop boy group OnlyOneOf has signed up to star in this idol-based BL (based on a webtoon). Theyâve been auditioning for this since Libido IMHO. You can watch me chronicle their BL MV series in this post. Itâs from Idol Romance who will do sad but can do good kisses (Wish You, Nobleman Ryu, Once Again, Kissable Lips, Poongduck 304, Tasty Florida, Tinted With You).
9/26 I Cannot Reach You AKA I Can't Reach You AKA Kimi ni wa Todokanai (Japan ????) - Adapted from the manga, childhood best friends: The cool, smart one whoâs good at everything, and his average, dorky friend who struggles. Always by the otherâs side, but not together in the way they truly want to be. No matter how hard they try, their hearts cannot reach each other.
9/27 Absolute Zero (Thai iQIYI) - from 2021, Studio Wabi Sabi and New Siwaj finally bring us this âtime loop to prevent tragedyâ romance. We donât always get HEAs from them, so I'm on my guard.
9/? Venus in the Sky (Thai iQIYI) 10 eps
9/? Mr Cinderella 2 (Vietnam YouTube?)
2023 forthcoming BL master post (see comments, some are inaccurate, NOT KEPT UPDATED).
THIS WEEKâS BEST MOMENTS
Hidden Agenda hitting us up with a hug + lap + kiss. Very nice.

Chapter 6: The Secrets of The Red KeepÂ
In the Red Keep, itâs not just the rats that creep, but secrets too. And in the game of thrones, secrets kill as much as rats carrying plague do.

It was drawing nigh six months since Prince Daemonâs disinheritance and subsequent departure to Dragonstone. All across the realm, winter had reached its end, and flecks of green have begun dotting the bare trees once more. The smallfolkâs chatter and laughter grew gradually in abundance, as with spring always comes the promise of new beginnings.Â
The nobles too, harboured the hope for new beginnings. Gowns and coats of fur were swapped out for attire of lighter fabrics, and the misery caused by the chill of winter were replaced with eager ambition to propel themselves into the centre of power. And no one seemed to exemplify that more than the Lady Y/N Tyrell.Â
Gone was the devoted, yet somewhat prickly and brash lady-in-waiting of the late Queen. In its place, was someone much changed. Where in the past she had served Queen Aemma, these days, she was akin to a second shadow to the Princess Rhaenyra, heir to the Iron Throne, even moreso than her usual companion, the Lady Alicent. The kinder whispers expressed gladness that the Lady Y/N had taken pity on the Princess, who had lost her mother at such a young age, and had stepped up as a maternal figure in an act of benevolence. The more vicious gossips, however, sniggered that mayhaps Lady Y/N had been possessed by the spirit of a particularly determined leech. âThe rose sinks its thorns into another dragon after one passes,â they mocked.Â
All these whispers you heard, but you simply did not possess the means to care. âWords are wind,â you scoffed to yourself. AlthoughâŠTisâ true you were leveraging on your close connections with the PrincessâŠbut it was for self preservation. With Aemma and Daemon gone, you had gotten close to Rhaenyra, becoming something akin of a mother figure to her, which made your influence at court grow exponentially. Having the favour of the heir to the throne was a powerful thing, and you intended to use it to serve your own means. However, you couldnât shake off your feeling of guilt for using Rhaenyra this way. You oft wondered if Aemma would approve of you doing so if she was still alive. But if she wereâŠthen there would have been no need for you to do this. You swallowed down the painful lump in your throat. It doesnât matter now, you told yourself sternly. The dead are the dead, as Daemon said, and as long as you were alive, you would do whatever it takes to make sure you stayed at the Red Keep.Â
You arrived at the castle sept, where Rhaenyra was standing to the side while Alicent was kneeling in the midst of prayer. You curtsied to Rhaenyra, whose face lit up as soon as she saw you, though it did little to lighten the visible gloom on her face.Â
âYour Grace,â you greeted softly. âI told you so many times that you should call me by my name, Y/N,â Rhaenyra chided softly. You smiled apologetically, âApologies, it is a force of habit.â Rhaenyra smiled wistfully, âYou always called me by my name when Mother wasâŠâ her voice trailed off and her head drooped. You tilted your head in Alicentâs direction, âYouâre not praying?â Rhaenyra hesitated, âI must confess that Iâve never really prayed before..âÂ
You smiled, guiding her to where Alicent was kneeling. âWell, no time to begin like the present, then.â You took notice of the figure she was praying to: The Mother. How fitting.Â
Kneeling down next to Alicent, you felt Rhaenyra tentatively do so next to you. Alicent offered the both of you candles, and you showed Rhaenyra how to light them. The three of you knelt there in silence for a while, minds occupied with your own vastly different thoughts. âI findâŠâ Alicent spoke gingerly, âThat this is a way to be with my mother. Here in the quiet of the sept.â She hesitates, looking back at the statue of the Mother. âDoes it sound foolish?âÂ
âI donât think it sounds foolish,â Rhaenyra piped up next to you.Â
Alicent smiled at that, before turning to you, observing how your eyes were watching the figure of the Mother pensively. âDo you pray often, Y/N?â You smiled wistfully, âPiety was never one of my stronger suits, Iâm afraid. But I rememberâŠwhen I lost my lady mother, I prayed day and night that I wouldnât be sent back to Highgarden.âÂ
âYou disliked your home?â Rhaenyra asked softly. You pondered over her question, before shaking your head slightly. âTo me, Highgarden never really felt like home. Perhaps it was because I had been born and raised in the Red Keep for most of my days, but I consider Kingâs Landing to be my only home.â You didnât tell her that it was the looming threat of your duties as the sole daughter of House Tyrell that kept you from recognising Highgarden as your home. Rhaenyra nodded sagely.Â
âIâmâŠIâm afraid Iâm not quite sure what to pray to the Mother for,â Rhaenyra hesitantly says, âShould I pray for anything specific?â You smiled wistfully, âYou only need to follow your heart. The Gods will listen to you if your sincerity can be felt.â Alicent nodded in agreement, and the three of you lapsed into silence once more, praying on your own. You closed your eyes, and Aemma flashed into your memories. She was always smiling at you then, and your heart ached deeply whenever you remembered her.Â
â...the day of the tourney,â Alicent and Rhaenyra turned to you inquisitively, as you took a deep breath, letting the scent of the smoke sooth you, âI told you I was never religious, but that dayâŠI prayed to the Mother fervently. For your mother, for Aemma to have a smooth labour.â You smiled bitterly, âBut it seemed, the gods had a different plan for your mother.âÂ
Rhaenyra sniffled softly. âIt feels refreshing to hear you talk about my mother,â she admits after a pause. âNo one, not even Father, seems to want to talk about her. They always change the subject. Itâs like her memory is something unpleasant. Something to be avoided..âÂ
You took her hand, feeling as though you might cry yourself. âThe subject is painful,â she continues, âBut I donât want to forget. I donât want anyone to forget. I cannot bear for my mother to only be spoken about in riddles and hushed tones. I want to remember herâŠI just donât understand why Father doesnât seem to want to.âÂ
Alicent glanced at the both of you, biting her lip softly. âWhen my mother diedâŠmy father and brother wanted to forget about her too. And admittedly, I did too.â You put your other hand on Alicentâs, and she smiled ruefully at you. âI hid my grief, trying to continue with my life with the same bravery my father and brother hadâŠbut I found myself unable to. So the sept is my refuge. Itâs where I can express my grief without feeling like itâs something to be ashamed of.âÂ
âGrieving is nothing to be ashamed of,â you told her gently, âGrief is what keeps the memory of a person alive, even if theyâve long passed. To remember what kind of person they were to you, and to honour how they made you who you were now. Grief does a service to our loved ones who have passed.âÂ
Rhaenyra smiled bitterly, âI think Father needs to hear that.â You smiled at that, patting her hand softly, âEveryone grieves in their way, Rhaenyra. You might not see it, but Iâm sure your father mourns your mother too, though it may be in a way different to yours.âÂ
Rhaenyra pondered on that, turning her gaze back to the candles. â...mayhaps youâre right.â You squeezed her hand, and she squeezed it back. You turned to look at Alicent, and she grasped your hand tightly in hers, her expression warm. Though getting close to both of them was naught but a political machination initiallyâŠyou found yourself growing to care more and more for these two girls everyday. So different we all are, you thought to yourself, yet so similar we are too. You turned back to the Mother, as you said one last prayer to her, âI hopeâŠthat the three of us can always be like this. That no matter what, when the world seems bleakâŠwe can all be truthful with one another, and depend on each other.âÂ
It has been six months, but you find that you are still unable to school your features into absolute indifference as you watch Viserys digging into his meal with a notable lack of enthusiasm.Â
Pursing your lips, you focused your attention back onto cutting into the veal on your plate. Ever since Aemmaâs death, you had been hesitant in seeking out Viserysâ company voluntarily, despite Daemon having advised you to take the opportunity to get close to Viserys for protection. Out of all of Daemonâs advice you had reluctantly heeded, this one unsettled you the most. But as it turned out, you had not needed to make the first move. Viserys had (quite unfortunately) taken to summoning you to his apartments more oft than not in the past six months for meals, or even just for idle conversation. And the usual topic of conversation? The late wife that Viserys had cut open. You would find it funny if the topic itself did not constantly make you want to hurl something at Viserys. Viserys seemed determined to cling onto the vestiges of Aemmaâs memory through you, Aemmaâs cherished companion. Although after todayâs conversation at the sept, you found it strange that Viserys seemed reluctant to broach the topic of Aemma with Rhaenyra, but with you, it was different. Why exactly was it so, you did not know, butâŠas long as it kept you at the Red Keep, then you would stomach as many conversations as Viserys wanted to have about Aemma.Â
Which was why you nearly dropped your fork when Viserys asked you if you knew about Daemonâs current occupation of Dragonstone. Clearing your throat, you deliberated on the reason for the sudden change of topic, but quickly answered, âIt would be a miracle if someone had not heard about that.â Viserys chuckles, a rare deviation from his usual melancholic mood during your dinners. âAs always, you are unfettered in your nature of speaking. I only wished more people would be like you.âÂ
You were unsure on how to respond to that. Viserys sighed, âIt would not be such a bother if it had been only Daemon on the island, but he had to take nearly half the City Watch with him as well. Does he truly desire to wage war against me, his own brother? With that meagre army of his?â You recalled Daemonâs words that fateful night, and bit your lip. So this was what he meant. You knew that with Daemonâs abscondence along the City Watch, Kingâs Landing had became more susceptible to looting, raping and other violent crimes. The Small Council was oft engaged in heavy debate as of late on how to tackle this problem, and that must have been Daemonâs plan all along. To sow chaos in Kingâs Landing. You sighed, cutting into your veal. DaemonâŠhe may not look it, but there is always a certain calculative edge to his seemingly impulsive actions. The promise to make a point.Â
âIâve half a mind to go to Dragonstone and confront him myself,â you snapped back to reality when you heard Viserys bang down his cutlery frustratedly. âIf the Small Council had not dissuaded me otherwise, I wouldâve done so.â You grimace, âViserys, that would be unwise. You and I both know more than anyone of Daemonâs nature. He means to continue throwing thisâŠtantrum so that he may garner your attention. You shouldnât pay heed to his antics. Mayhaps he will come to his senses sooner or late.âÂ
âMayhaps is a strange word for never,â Viserys muttered, picking up his fork and knife again. You stifled a laugh by lifting another spoonful of soup to your lips. âRegardless, it would not be fitting for you to go to Dragonstone. What would the realm say, seeing their king having to go and plead with his brother to curb his foolishness? The dissenters will see it as weakness, as they did with Aenys and Maegor. You should listen to your advisorsâ counsel, Viserys.â Viserys sighed, leaning back against his seat. âI suppose youâre right. However; this leaves me at a bind on what to do with him. Lord Corlys has been singing this wretched tune for nigh six months, and he will continue to do so if I do not act soon to put Daemon in his place.â
The two of you lapsed into silence. You picked at the remaining veal on your plate anxiously. âAnd other than the mounting pressure to deal with Daemon, the Small Council, in particular Lord Corlys, has also been pushing me on the subject of remarriage.â You froze. â...remarriage?â Your heart was pounding furiously, having not expected this sudden turn of events. You knew it would be expected of Viserys to do so, to secure the line of succession, but he always seemed so catatonic in grief over Aemma that you thought he would never take a second wife. Moreover, should his new wife sire him sons, Rhaenyraâs claim would surely be disputed by the lords of the realm. Viserys nodded wearily, âLord Corlys has even nominated a candidate, his own daughter, Lady Laena.âÂ
You wrinkled your nose, âIsnât she naught but a girl of 12?â Viserys sighed, âIndeed. Much too youngâŠthough it seems not for Lord Corlysâ ambition.â You felt your appetite slip away at that. âAnd what do you think of this match?â Viserys smiles ruefully, âI was actually looking to hear your opinions. You always speak with unbridled truth, and it would do me good to hear from an unbiased perspective.âÂ
You purse your lips, surprised. He was asking for your opinion an awful lot these days. âIf youâre seeking counsel on the qualities of Lady Laena, I must confess I do not have a clearly formed opinion. But speaking from a political perspectiveâŠit would be an advantageous match for both houses. It would join both of your houses of Valyrian blood in one once more.â Viserys lets out a soft snort, âAdvantageous? Lord Corlys and my cousin only proposed this match to put their own blood on the throne. They care not for the unity of our houses. Lord Corlys only wishes to see a king of Velaryon blood on the Iron Throne, and to correct the slight that Rhaenys faced at the Great Council.âÂ
âBe that as it may,â you interjected, âYou cannot deny it is a brilliant match. Is it not better to join the blood of the dragon in one single line again? This will prevent any more dragonriders from emerging from House Velaryon, and consolidate the power of House Targaryen in a single bloodline once more.â You were startled when Viserys suddenly let out a bark of laughter, âYou know, you sound exactly like Daemon. With how the both of you are constantly stressing about the importance of retaining the power of House Targaryen.â You froze, feeling offended, but then the indignation fades away. It wasnât entirely a bad thing, after all, Daemon was the person who had opened your eyes to the naivety that blinded you from seeing reason in your grief. Instead of feeling insulted, you felt like you should feelâŠproud? You shuddered, the thought of being proud thanks to sharing qualities with Daemon fucking Targaryen of all people being too much to bear.Â
Viserys lets out a slow exhale, looking regretful. âAll this talk of remarriage sickens me,â Viserys mutters. âBecause despite all this quibbling, nothing will ever come close to Aemma. I do not wish to replace her. I imagine she will be deeply upset at the thought of it.âÂ
You frowned, holding back the urge to shout at Viserys why he had chosen to cut Aemma open if that were the case. But alas, the truth oft can never be expressed freely. You took several deep breaths, formulating a response in your head, as you spoke gently, âRemarriage may seem daunting, Viserys, but it is inevitable. It is your duty to the realm, and Iâm sure Aemma will understand that.â Viserys sighs before laughing softly, âI suppose youâre right, Y/N. Duty is inescapable, especially when youâre a king. Very well, I shall arrange to see Lady Laena to discuss a possible betrothal as soon as possible.âÂ
You did not know what to feel about that, happy? Aggrieved? Angry? âThat reminds me,â Viserys spoke up, getting out of his seat and walking to you. You watched him curiously as he fumbled in his pockets to draw something out. âIâŠthink that you should have this.â Your eyes widened when you saw that he was holding the ruby falcon necklace that Rhaenyra had gotten Aemma. âThe Silent Sisters retrieved this from Aemma. Iâve held onto it for the past six months but,â Viserys smiled bitterly, âI felt like it would only be right for you to have this. Aemma was as dear to you as much as she was to me, and with my remarriageâŠI do not think it is right for me to hold on to it anymore.â You took the necklace gingerly and cradled it in your hands, feeling torn. Viserys put a hand on your shoulder gently, âLet this serve as not just a token of remembrance for AemmaâŠbut also as one of gratitude. From me towards you for your counsel, steadfast loyalty, and friendship. I want you to know that despite how bereft I am over Aemmaâs passing, I am thankful that you have continued to stay by my side.â Conflict consumed you as you looked up at your old friend. You thought you hated him for doing what he did to Aemma, but it seems your old friendship prevents you from detesting him completely. It was so difficult to completely hate someone who you've known your entire life, and has only looked out for you, despite his position of power.Â
You rested your hand atop his and smiled tentatively, âThank you, Viserys. This gesture means a lot to meâŠand I want you to know that I am grateful for you too. I will always be by your side, no matter whatâ Viserys flashed you a genuine smile for what seemed like the first time in months, âThank you, Y/N. Truly.âÂ
Two weeks later, you were striding towards Viserysâ solar, a book in your hands, a smile on your face. Viserys and you had been discussing about the structure of a temple of a Valyrian deity for the past few days, and you were delighted when you found a book that contained descriptions of how temples of that particular deity were constructed in the empire of Yi Ti and the Old Empire of Ghis, immediately setting off to Viserysâ chambers to share it with him. You also remembered that today was the day that Viserys was due to walk with the Lady Laena to discuss the marriage pact between their houses. You had no doubt he would be feeling discouraged after that, and you hoped the book would lift his spirits. Â
You nodded at Ser Steffon Darklyn, who was standing guard outside the Kingâs solar, and bustled into the room like you did many times before. What you did not notice however, was the manâs panicked look as he remembered the King was busy with another visitor when you entered.Â
You swept into Viserysâ solar, a grin on your face, âViserys, I found something of interest-'' But you nearly dropped the tome as you came to a dead halt, staring at the dismayed figures of both King Viserys and Lady Alicent - who were far too close together for your liking - in shock. A dead silence blanketed the room, before Viserys began appealing to you, âY/N, this is not what it looks like-âÂ
Suddenly, Ser Steffonâs voice came from the door, âYour Grace, the Hand is requesting for an audience.â Viserys sighed, looking between the door and your accusatory expression. âLet him in, Ser Steffon.âÂ
The Hand entered the room, bowing to the King. He didnât seem surprised to see Alicent here, you realised with growing indignation. Otto Hightower, that cunt, looked a little taken aback at your presence, however it was quickly smoothed over by his grim expression.Â
âYour Grace, Iâve called the Small Council to an emergency session. An incident has-âÂ
âCan the matter wait?â Viserys demanded, walking over to you, but you backed away, unable to look him in the eye as you tightened your grip on the ancient tome. âIâm afraid not, Your Grace. There has been a problem,â Otto paused, eyeing you and Alicent, clearly unsure whether he should say it in front of the both of you. âAt Dragonstone.âÂ
Daemon, your heart thudded in your chest. What did he do now?Â
âGods be good,â Viserys muttered. âI understand. I will be there shortly. I have a pressing matter at hand.â With that, Viserys turned to you, his expression becoming sombre as he murmured, âI think I owe you an explanation.âÂ
âYou donât,â you whisper, a betrayed look on your face. âYou owe one to Lady Laena. To Rhaenyra. To Aemma.âÂ
Viserys sighed, suddenly looking like he aged five years in an instant. You were aware of the Handâs heavy gaze upon you and Viserys, as well as Alicentâs anxious one. âI swear to the Seven that it is not what it looks like, Y/N.âÂ
âThen pray tell, whatever good reason can there be for thisâŠgathering?â you whispered harshly. âThis does not seem like a one-off incident, am I right?âÂ
âIt is true this was notâŠa first occurrence,â Viserys looked nervously at Alicent, who was picking at her fingernails again. He placed a hand on your shoulder, causing you to flinch. A sadness dawned in his eyes at your reaction, âIâŠI will explain it all to you later. But I need you to swear to me that you will not tell Rhaenyra. Iâm afraid she will misunderstand-âÂ
âYour Grace,â Otto speaks up, causing the both of you to turn your gazes to him. You felt queasy when you saw the intrigued look in his eyes. âIâm afraid your conversation will have to wait. This matter is truly urgent.â Viserys sighed, looking at you pleadingly, âPlease, Y/N. I promise, I will tell you everything later. JustâŠhelp me keep this secret, just once, alright?â You couldnât do anything but press your lips into a thin line. Seeing there was no use begging you anymore, Viserys only lowered his head shamefully, patting your shoulder before leaving the room. Otto gave you and Alicent one last look, one that you returned with a glare, before he inclined his head and turned to follow the King.Â
As the door closed, you and Alicent stood there, an uncomfortable silence blanketing the room. You were the first to break it, âHow long has this been going on?âÂ
Alicent cast her eyes downward, âNigh six months, my lady.â Her voice was quiet, timid. You crossed over the room to her, arms crossed in disapproval. âYour father ordered you to do so, didnât he?â â...yes,â Alicent whispered tearfully. Your heart twists. As angry as you were, it was not directed to Alicent, but to Viserys, and the Hand. For once, you finally understood Daemonâs intense dislike of the Hand, and how appropriate it had been when he called him a leech. âYet again, Daemon is proven correct,â the bittersweet thought caused your lips to quirk upward. âWho knew he was such a patron of wisdom.â You were silent as you let your thoughts deliberate the information you just learnt, before you spoke up once more.Â
âSpeak truthfully with me,,â your voice was firm, demanding, âDoes the King intend to take you as a bride, instead of Lady Laena?â Alicent was silent for a moment, before she spoke in a trembling whisper, âIt would appear so.â Â
You massaged your temples. Gods be good. âAnd is that what you desire?â Alicent hesitates, looking torn. âIt would be a great honour,â she murmurs, although her voice was lacking in conviction. âIt would mean I would be Queen. There is no greater way to bring honour to House Hightower.â You waved your hand in the air dismissively, âAside from honour, Iâm asking you if this is what you want. And do not tell me that it is, just because your father or your House wills it. What I want to hear is if you, Alicent Hightower, want this marriage.â You lowered your voice, demand turning into solemnity, âThe path of marriageâŠit is no easy one, Alicent. And you are still young, there is much of life you have not yet experienced.â You took a deep breath, voice shaking slightly, âYou sawâŠwhat happened to the late Queen. The pressure to produce an heirâŠand eventually, she gave her life for it. Is this the sort of life you want to resign yourself to?âÂ
Alicent bit her lip, a tear trickling down her face. âI do not have a choice, do I?â You were aghast, âOf course, you have a choice. Everybody can dictate their life the way they choose. You need not resign yourself to the will of others. That is no way to live, Alicent.âÂ
Alicent gives you a bitter smile, still not meeting your eyes. âIt is fortunate that you have the liberty to think so, my lady. But it is a concept I am unfamiliar with, and one that I can never grow to fully experience.â You wanted to protest, but you kept silence as you watched Alicent blink back tears, âIâve learnt from a young ageâŠthe inevitability of duty. Run as you may, in the end, this freedom you speak ofâŠit can never be ours. Everyone has a role to play in life, and the women are expected to play it exceptionally well. Noblewomen especially. We were born in this life to serve our fathers, our lords, our husbands, our houses. The thought of freedom is wonderful yes, but you soon realise, it slips through your fingers slowly, until all that is left is duty. Since duty is inescapable, no matter how reluctant I may be, I have learnt that accepting it earlier will cause me less hurt, instead of thinking foolish thoughts.â She finally meets your gaze, eyes filled with solemn determination. âThank you for your concern, my lady. But this is a choice I have made. You would not change my mind, and I suspect I will not change yours. However, I hope you will respect my opinions on the matter.âÂ
You face was impassive, but your eyes were filled with sorrow. How wise she was for a girl so young. And how crushing the weight of knowledge can be. You continued to say nothing, instead gently prying apart Alicentâs clenched fingers, examining the wounds on her fingernails. âCome, let me help you put some ointment on them. I got some from the Maesters after the tourney.âÂ
Your mind was in a haze as you departed the Kingâs solar. Alicentâs words struck a deep chord in you. You always assumed that everyone would want the choice to pursue the life their heart desires, regardless of their sex, but you never stopped to consider the people who didnât have the chance to. You had flouted the idea of duty for years, despising it, but seeing Alicent, who willingly embraced the burden of itâŠit made you feel ashamed.Â
Consumed with your thoughts, you didnât notice a hurried figure approaching until you both collided, nearly knocking each other to the ground. The other person grabbed you to steady you before you fell. Your eyes widened with shock at the guilty figure in front of you. âRhaenyra?â The princess shushed you, pulling you to a dark corner. âWhat are you doing?â you whisper furiously, upon noticing her dressed in her dragonriding gear. âAre you sneaking out? At this hour?âÂ
Rhaenyra was bouncing on her heels impatiently, looking like she might take flight herself at any moment. âTo Dragonstone. Daemon has stolen my brotherâs egg, he intends to gift it to his mistressâ bastard child.â You were startled, and outraged at that. He would go to such great lengths just to get his brotherâs attention? Sometimes you wonder if being a cunt was just in Daemonâs nature. âPlease help me keep it a secret, Y/N,â Rhaenyra implored. If it werenât for you gripping onto Rhaenyraâs forearms, you suspect she would have fled a long time ago. âFather shot me down when I suggested I fly there to retrieve the egg, and sent the Hand instead, but I have to go get it. It was my brotherâs egg, I picked it out personally, Daemon has no right-â she struggled to find the words amidst her anger.Â
âI understand, go. I wonât tell a soul.â Rhaenyra looked at you with wide eyes. âAre youâŠserious?â You nodded, letting go of her. âI think you will be able to get through to Daemon. I believe in you. Now go, before your uncle decides to take the Handâs head off with a sword and cause a war between House Hightower and House Targaryen.â Rhaenyra laughs, before unexpectedly pulling you into a hug. âY/NâŠthank you. It feels nice to know that you have faith in meâ You were startled, but you hugged her back, and patted her hair soothingly, a gesture youâve seen Aemma do with Rhaenyra. âYouâre more capable than you think, Rhaenyra. Now go,â you pulled away, eyes fixed with hers. âAnd make Aemma proud, Rhaenyra.â Rhaenyra nodded, a fierce look coming into her eyes. She shot you a brief smile before looking around furtively to make sure that no prying eyes were here to witness her escape, before sprinting away to the stables. You watched her go, biting your lip. Your conversation with Viserys and Alicent crossed your mind, and you felt a little regretful that you didnât manage to tell Rhaenyra. But Viserys had begged you, and you couldnât find it in your heart to say anything. You turned away, walking to the godswood, intent for some air. You had a feeling in your gut that sooner or late, all these secrets would culminate in an unpleasant ending.
Your words were proven true enough a few days later. You were reading a book in your chambers, when Rhaenyra burst into your room, nearly giving you a heart attack. You were ready to reprimand her, but one look at her furious, betrayed face, and you already knew. âHe-â Rhaenyra bit out, âMy father just announced heâs taking a new bride. Alicent.âÂ
You leaned back in your seat, your heart sinking. So Viserys had gone with it after all. You felt disappointment dawning on you, as well as guilt as you watched Rhaenyra pace around the room frustratedly. âI just donât understand, how? He was going to marry Lady Laena, he swore it to me yesterday, when did he even get acquainted with Alicent?â Rhaenyra swung back to face you again, but she froze when she caught sight of your guilty expression. âSeven hells,â she breathed out, âYou knew?â You closed your book, standing up, âI did, but I didnât expect-â Rhaenyra let out a sharp bark of laughter. âSave it, Y/N. I do not wish to hear it now. I thought I could trust you.â âRhaenyra-â you beseeched, but she had already turned her heel and left, slamming the chamber door shut behind her. You sunk back down in your seat, your heart pounding. By the gods, what a mess.Â
Your chamber was once more the recipient of another visitor, though it might not have been the one you hoped for. âRhaenyra?â you called out hopefully, only to be surprised when the timid form of Alicent appeared instead. Her eyes were rimmed with red, and you noticed fresh wounds on her nails once again. âAlicentâŠâ you walked towards her, taking her hands in yours. Alicent began to cry then, and you drew her into your embrace, closing your eyes as you felt Alicentâs tears staining the front of your gown.Â
A while later, you had seated Alicent on your bed, observing her as she cradled in her hand the cup of tea a servant had fetched for her. âI thought I knew how heavy this burden was,â she spoke, her voice barely a whisper as she looked despondently into her cup. âBut I wasnât expecting it to feel so painful.â You chewed your lip, as you focused on applying the ointment to the fresh wounds on her left hand. âI thought I was prepared, but I did not realise this would mean I would lose Rhaenyra.âÂ
Your heart was pounding as well, though not for the same reasons as Alicent. Rhaenyraâs backlash towards this announcement didnât just signal an end to her ties with Alicent, but also with you. You remembered vividly how betrayed she had looked when she came to realise that you had known, and you had not told her. There was no coming back from that. Apart from your guilt however, you also felt a steady sense of despair building up in you. You had spent the past six months relying on the favour of Rhaenyra to prevent your expulsion from court and back home, how was that to go about now?Â
âOftentimes, life changes in ways we cannot anticipate,â you began quietly, trying to think of your next steps. âBut it is best not to dwell on it, to move on and adapt.â Alicent looked distraught at that, but she kept silent, save for the tear trailing down her cheek. You finished applying the ointment to Alicentâs left hand, moving onto her right hand. Suddenly, an idea struck you. âAlicent, I know this is a bit sudden,â you said gingerly, âBut if I mayâŠI would like to request to serve you as your lady-in-waiting.â Alicent looked surprised, though there was no anger in her expression, much to your relief. You were worried that you might have overstepped, but Alicent only put down her cup of tea and squeezed your hand, âI would be honoured to have you as my lady-in-waiting, Y/N.âÂ
You had to refrain from sighing with relief, pleased that your gamble had worked out. You were banking on your close ties with Alicent now, and a queenâs power was surely more reliable than a princessâ. At least, good enough to keep you at the Red Keep. Once again, you felt guilty for using Alicent this way, but it was not out of malicious intent either: you truly did care for Alicent like a daughter, much like you had with Rhaenyra. BesidesâŠyou realised that Alicentâs current predicament was much like that of your worst nightmares. The realisation left a bitter taste on your tongue. Alicent was everything you vowed you would never end up being, and watching all this unfold in front of you while you were powerless to stop it - it felt gut-wrenching.Â
âY/N,â Alicentâs soft voice snapped you out of your reality. You looked at her questioningly, seeing hesitation in her eyes. âIf I may askâŠwhy did the King never choose to marry you?â You felt an initial urge to cringe, but then you realised it was a valid question, and a good one at that. âThe King clearly cares for you, and values you greatly. And not to mention, you are the sole heir to Highgarden,â Alicent looked unsure, âIt would be a prudent decision to marry you, a brilliant match, even. Far eclipsing the advantages of a union with the daughter of the Hand of the King. Why has the King never considered that?âÂ
You fell silent, deep in thought. The points she made were excellent, and even though you felt discomfited by it, you were curious to know as well. In the end, you could only reply, âI do not know, Alicent.âÂ
âYour Grace,â you greeted stiffly, curtsying to Viserys, much to his distress. He reached out to you, trying to help you up, but you only stepped away. The hurt on his face almost made you feel guilty for your coldness, but you couldnât stand to look at him right now. If it hadnât been for him summoning you to his solar, you wouldâve continued giving him the cold shoulder.Â
Viserys sighed, giving up as he turned towards his model of the Old Valyria. His next question made you raise your eyebrows incredulously. âHow is Rhaenyra coping with the news?â Unease grew in you, âShouldnât you be asking about Alicent instead, Your Grace?â Viserys grimaced at your use of formalities. âAlicent seems perfectly content, does she not? It is Rhaenyra whom I should be concerned about now.âÂ
You frowned, âIt is quite the opposite, actually. Rhaenyra is angry, but Iâm sure she will calm down sooner or late.â Viserys seems assuaged by that, retreating to take a seat at the armchairs before the fireplace. âI am thankful to hear that.â You took a seat next to him, levelling a hard glare at him. âAnd what of Alicent?â Viserys looked surprised, âWhat of her?â âShe seems distraught over this match.â Viserys furrowed his brows, âThis union brings her more benefit than it does me, what does she have to be distraught about? She will be Queen.â You finally exploded, âAnd so?â you demanded, rising up from your seat. âIt is clear that she is unhappy with this match. She came to me crying today, Viserys. Sheâs frightened by the prospect of this marriage. And it is clear that she is being used as a political pawn in her fatherâs games. How can you say she will not be distraught by this?â You half expected Viserys to get up and order you to leave, but he only sighed and washed a hand over his face. âY/N,â he began slowly, gesturing for you to sit down. You refused, staring at him with defiant eyes. He sighed, sometimes you reminded him so much of Daemon that it was a wonder you were not a Targaryen yourself. That stubborn persistence and fiery temperâŠ
âAlicent may be unhappy now, but I did not force her into this match.â He sighed again at your disbelieving expression, âThink of it this way, if she had vehemently opposed this match, she wouldn't have willingly visited my chambers every night without fail for the past six months. It was a scheme engineered by Otto, that I can see, but even so, Alicent wanted this. If she had been unwilling, she wouldnât have taken the initiative to get closer to me, to indulge me in my interests.âÂ
You were still frowning, but you slowly lowered yourself back into your seat. You didnât want to believe in Viserysâ words, but he had no reason to lie. âAmbition is a fickle thing, Y/N,â Viserys turned his gaze to the fire. âSome men choose to deny it, to preserve the illusion of their humility. But the truth is, every man is akin to a starving man when he sees a banquet when it comes to power. Do not underestimate the temptation of power, Y/N. Many men claim they do not desire it, but no one can resist it. Alicent is no different. She may feel uncomfortable with this match at first, but there is a small sliver of her that covets this position, and the power she can wield with it.âÂ
You chose to say nothing, but you tightened your grip on your armrests as Viserys spoke. Viserys sighed, turning his gaze back to you. âI have to be frank with youâŠmy ideal match when I first heard the topic of remarriage being brought up, was you, Y/N.â You finally met his gaze again, mouth agape. âWhat?âÂ
Viserys nodded wearily, âIt wouldâve seemed natural. After all, we grew up together, and you are one of the people I hold dearest to my heart. I would have been happy to take you as my wife.â Your stomach began to churn. âBut, I knewâŠwith your temperament, you would never be happy in this marriage with me.â Viserys smiled ruefully at you, âI knew Aemma would have never wanted me to trap you in an unhappy marriage, and I donât either.âÂ
âBut youâre alright with trapping Alicent in an unhappy marriage instead?â you snapped. Viserys looked resigned, recognising that he would not be able to get through to you. âAlicentâsâŠdistress over this match would fade sooner or late. Furthermore, I genuinely do care for Alicentâs wellbeing, and I will see to it she lacks for nothing as my queen.â âMaterial possessions do not equate to happiness, Viserys,â you said angrily. Viserys finally slams down his hand on his armrest, shocking you into silence. It was in rare moments like this where you are reminded that Viserys was still of the blood of the dragon, and that he was still your king. You grimaced, realising you might have spoken too carelessly.Â
âWhat would you have me do then, Y/N?â Viserys blustered angrily, âDo you think getting remarried brings me joy? Every time I think about it, the thought sends me into a spiral of despair. That I would have to take a new wife, sire new heirs, with someone whom I might not love. Alicent may not be Aemma, but I care for her a great deal, and I will not have you deny it.â Viserys sinks back into his seat, his rage slowly turning back into that resigned, mournful look youâve seen him wear so much lately. His voice cracked a little as he spoke, âIâm justâŠso tired, Y/N. You are my closest confidant, and even you canât seem to understand how I feel, what Iâm going through. After Aemma, I find myself losing the will to go through my days more and more with each passing day. It feels like my life has been drained out of me. I never liked partaking in the intrigues of court either, and without Aemma, it has only grown harder to bear. Alicent lessened the burden of grief on my shoulders. When I was with her, it felt like I could justâŠbe. No kingly duties, no responsibilities, no Small Council on my back, nitpicking my every move, scheming to consolidate power. She made me feel like I was just Viserys, a feeling I only experienced with you, Aemma, and Daemon.âÂ
â...you really do care for her then?â you asked quietly. Viserys nods, looking earnest. âI do. Trust me, Y/N, I would not do anything to cause her unhappiness. And I believe as time passes, I will grow to feel love for her.â You played with your fingers uncomfortably, not knowing what to make of this conversation. Your insight into Viserysâ thoughts only sowed more conflict into your already torn feelings towards him, and you didnât know what the right thing was to do anymore. The two of you stared into the roaring fire, as the solar was enveloped in a thick blanket of tense, pensive silence.Â
On Driftmark, there was silence as well. But this silence felt more taut, more dangerous, like a provoked beast who was readying to strike.Â
At least thatâs what Daemon Targaryen thought as he took a swig of Arbor Gold from his goblet, taking in his surroundings. The Velaryons had a strange taste for decor, which he assumed was an acquired taste.Â
Lord Corlys sat from across him, a surly expression on his face as he spoke. Daemon couldnât find it in him to pay attention to the manâs incessant complaints. His mind kept wandering back, much to his frustration, to his conversation with Mysaria a few days ago. Her words, her caution, her fearâŠso unlike a certain someone he knew.
His mind couldnât help but chase thoughts of her wellbeing. Had she heeded his advice? Had he gotten through to her, even with her stubborn insistence? Surely she must know that he only wished for the best for her. She was like family to him after all.
Lord Corlys clears his throat, and Daemon slid his focus back to him, a bored look on his face. âYou are aware the King has taken Alicent Hightower to wed?â Lord Corlys asks, a shifty look that Daemon couldnât quite place filling his eyes. Daemon shot him an irate look. It was hard not to know, particularly since this matter was what led him to be sitting in this exact chair, listening to Lord Corlys blather about angrily.Â
âI heard that the Hightower girl has announced Lady Y/N as her chief lady-in-waiting.â This snapped Daemon back to attention. He took another sip of his wine to hide his smirk, âSo she is cleverer than I gave her credit for.â Â
âI donât see how that relates to why you asked me here, Lord Corlys,â Daemonâs voice was annoyed. Lord Corlysâ expression turned sly, âIn all honesty, I had expected that the King might have taken Lady Y/N to be his bride instead. He gave off the impression he might.â Daemonâs eyebrows shot to his forehead, and he nearly choked on his wine. âI can assure you, Lady Y/N would never let that happen,â Daemon told Lord Corlys, voice dripping with amusement. âBut he is the King. It is quite impossible to refuse an order from the King. And besides,â Lord Corlysâ lips quirked upwards, âI have heard that Lady Y/N is rather fond of your brother herself. She has been dining with him each night since Queen Aemmaâs passing.âÂ
Daemon tried to keep his expression impassive, but his grip on his goblet tightened. The thought of his brother taking Y/N to wedâŠit sent an odd, visceral feeling through him. Something that was akin to possessiveness andâŠjealousy? Mayhaps he was drunk. There was simply no way. No way at all.Â
Lord Corlys smirked, the Princeâs dark expression told him that he had been successful in inciting some anger in the Prince against the King. Which was exactly all he needed. And soon enough, it was official: Daemon Targaryen had just agreed to wage war on the Stepstones.
