Last City lingo

(aka what would they say besides "oh Light" and "by the Traveler"?)

"Zavala's beard!" (a joke phrase started by Hunters but currently popular with Titans)

"Traveler's shards!" (an exclamation of surprise or dismay)

"Lucy in the Sky" (one of the more colorful nicknames for the Traveler)

"an armory of Titans" / "a flock of Warlocks" / "a gaggle [or clutter] of Hunters" (joke phrases to refer to groups of Guardians)

"a Queen's errand" (aka an unwanted task)

"as hardy as a pigeon" (aka someone or something that is surprisingly resilient)

"space-brained" (aka "air-headed"; sometimes considered a counter to "dust-hearted")

"turning glimmer into [exotic] engrams" (aka "turning straw into gold")

"I swear by my rivets." (Exos' version of "I swear on my life")

"I swear on the Wall." (aka a declaration of truthfulness and/or commitment)

• "May you always have a Crow's blade" is a common alternate used by Awoken Hunters

"May the Traveler bless your days and brighten your ways." (a farewell blessing similar to House Light's May the Light provide.)

Daatma ("star soul," an Earthborn term for all Awoken; however younger generations prefer Tulatma, meaning "bridged soul")

"Rivendell" - an Awoken residential area; non-City Awoken think the name is a nod to Riven, who built the Dreaming City, but it isn't 😉

"Coulior d'Étoiles" - an Awoken neighborhood popular with both City and non-City residents, due to its showcasing of Earthborn culture. also known as the Awoken Quarter.

"The Outskirts" - the partially undeveloped land between the City Walls and the City itself, which was meant to act as a buffer in case of attack. some suburbs (mostly Guardian and Tower personnel housing) began to spread into the Outskirts after the Red War.

all the details in this didn't translate so well into a drawing, so I wound up just writing

you can probably figure it out, but this is set immediately after Luce's death

They steal into the Giglio Nero headquarters like a ghost, slipping through half-open doors and winding hallways. Giglio Nero is old, and each new Donna has built on the bones of the last, turning a once-modest estate into a sprawling compound. 

Viper knows every hallway, had spent their time in I Prescelti Sette mapping every secret path in their Sky’s house. 

They let their feet settle on the ground, choosing to walk the last stretch. With an infant’s body, every step only takes them an increment further, but today is significant, and they need the grounding. 

The heart of Giglio Nero was once the inner sanctum of the Arcobaleno- but embittered Elements tend not to stay long after being chained to the world. It was called the Nursery, which, in hindsight, was deeply morbid. 

They slip into the chambers of the Sky Arcobaleno, and settle on the dais where Luce lies. The indigo pacifier stays dim.

 Her neck is bare, her skin is cold, her eyes are empty. Viper doesn’t know how long they stare into those hollow eyes, but eventually they manage to reach out and close them. Luce deserved to turn her gaze away, even if only in death.

They can’t look away.

Her white dress, the uniform of the Sky Arcobaleno has become her funeral shroud. Cold impersonal white, a monument to the purity of her flame, to the duty of her death. Her blank face, orange marking garishly bright against death-pallor. 

It’s so, so wrong.

Luce is warm, and she smiles, and she is always moving, even just a little.

She hated to be still. She made a point to smile, always, even when she cried because there were things that the world could not take from her, and her reactions were one of those things.

For it to end this way-

It was always going to happen, really. The lot of them had lived their lives, exceptional but still sensical, and then somehow found their way into a fairytale. Even the Strongest Sky could not subvert the laws of her narrative.

But it hurts that she wouldn’t even try. That she laid down and waited for Him to come. That she walked up that mountain with the poise she brought to every other tragedy.

 The people they hate most are liars, and Luce was always a liar. All that sight, blessed gift of a dead goddess, and she could never even admit the truth to herself. Pathetic…

They twirl a strand of bluish hair around chubby fingers, but they can’t stay. Within Giglio Nero’s halls, there are always eyes on the ‘precious’ Arcobaleno- already the pacifier has been passed to little Aria, and soon her predecessor’s body will be discovered. 

Best to just go. Time is money after all, and Viper is wasting it here.

so she is definitely a star of some kind. i mean she is an angel but in that story in particular The Stars are kind of angels. like they’re otherworldly beings and they jus kinda hang out. cosmically. it’s a different dimension separated from the human one but like, obviously stars still exist for humans, they just don’t do anything crazy because the rules of the world dictate that their realities shouldn’t interact. angels can observe the other world from far up above yet they still exist on a different level. But tbh zavijava had never enjoyed the otherworldly ethereal whatever lifestyle—she just didn’t feel like she fit in there. she is a #1 humans fan though so she knows that’s where she’d fit in. so she does just that. she fits in perfectly :) and normally :) yay :)

They were both nice to him up until this point, although in the first clip, Ajax had already used a few of the tadpoles, but in the second, Cal hadn't.

no yeah miri's mom was NOT the ""villain"" and she definitely was not presented as such either.

with the smile spell miri mentioned earlier, and just overall despite the situation she was forced into, misaki clearly did her best with miri even with her conflicting emotions.

the only obviously "bad" choice shes made so far was sending miri, a 4 y/o all alone into the city but 💀 to some degree the thought of sending her to be with her dad is also. yeah. like shes not in a place where she can take care of miri properly, and even if miri seemed to be some sort of... bargaining chip?? miris dad has the resources to help miri more than her mom could

and kazuki isnt the ""good guy"" either nor was the situation presented as so black and white. both parties said things that they've internalized due to their own separate situations, and while kazuki was mostly projecting due to his own losses and experiences, itd be good if he manages to learn about some other worldviews.

but yeah tldr: neither misaki nor kazuki were villains, and they werent PRESENTED as such either. they just said whatever and you the viewer have to interpret it.

i am aware a lot of series often demonize women who dont want their children or are in similar situations etc. but thats not what happened here luckily
