Seeing posts about aroace mytho and I’d like to raise you my personal cherished headcanon that I hold near and dear to my heart: aromantic Duck.

So obviously people love shipping Duck so this headcanon won't catch on but hear me out. Duck's strongest relationships are (arguably) platonic ones.

Duck explicitly says she loves Mytho, yes, but as the show progresses that love becomes more evidently platonic. She admires Mytho but she doesn't want him, especially when compared with Rue. Her feelings for Mytho markedly change over the course of the first season. She stops blushing around him, stops imagining herself in a relationship with him. That initial attraction is replaced by a deep admiration and a desire to save him.

Her crush on Mytho could be read in a variety of ways--it could be physical attraction, comphet, or a simple desire to be close to him that has been misinterpreted as romantic feelings.

Beyond Mytho, she regards Rue as a beloved friend, and any indication that she may have feelings for Fakir may just easily be read as platonic. In fact, it's very telling that her closest relationship is with the person who becomes her best friend, rather than her star-crossed fairytale prince.

The part that hammers in the aromantic narrative for me is how, according to the story, Tutu's whole life is supposed to revolve around romantic love. She gives everything for her love until there is nothing left of her. Duck is simply fulfilling a role.

In the scene that struck me as the most aromantically coded Drosselmeyer tells Duck she "should" be in love with Mytho and want to marry him. She seems uncomfortable at this and looks away without responding. This leaves her feelings for Mytho up to interpretation, but personally I always read it as Duck is uncomfortable because she hasn't been thinking about marrying Mytho. She is unsure how to respond because she knows she is failing to perform her role as a Princess.

Drosselmeyer forces amatonormativity upon Duck and tries to reduce her whole role to her feelings for Mytho, expecting her to drop everything for him in a way that completely disregards her other important relationships. This is contrasted by how Duck's feelings for Mytho are so deeply tied to the fact that she became human for him. She is more upset at the prospect of returning to a duck and losing her friends and ability to dance than she is at losing Mytho's love.

I like taking the amatonormative narrative and twisting it to be an aromantic one. The story of Princess Tutu is about a girl who cannot confess her love in the "normal" way without completely losing herself. Duck works around this by finding unconventional ways to express love. She cannot confess a type of love she does not feel. And when Duck does find love it's an unconditional, no-pressure love that doesn't demand romance or reciprocation of her. She has stopped trying to perform relationships and is allowed to exist as herself. As a shoujo protagonist she is breaking the conventions of the genre by not "ending up" with anyone, but i find it a much more resonant ending than if she had ended up with her "Prince."

I think of them as queerplatonic, because theyre incredibly close and are pretty much each other's support systems. Balloon is Aromantic (technically canon? one of the creators said he was so im rlly hoping it is canon) so this is NOT a romantic ship. They dont have any romantic interactions, but you can spin every scene how you want. I just think they're in a QPR and are heavily supportive and understanding to each other. (Since like. half the people in the show fucking hate Balloon, and not many people seem to like to let Suitcase speak for herself)

The inherent intimacy of having a guy (John) inside your (Arthur) head who you don't know the history or goals of but still bond over the atrocities you go through in your shared body. And sometimes he's an arsehole but you know that he wants the best for you and it's so much more than any other relationship they could have and in the end they always have eachother and I'm jealous of a sad British man and the voice in his head. They're friends and each others world and everything and I want what they have. OH DID I MENTION THAT ARTHUR IS FUCKINF BLIND AND JOHN IS HIS ONLY ACCESS TO SIGHT? IT'S BEAUTIFUL. They are extremely close, both literally and figuratively. John is inside of Arthur's head, and they often fight in ways that have been referred to by the fans as 'divorce moments' but they still very clearly care about and love each other, in a way that is explicitely non-romantic. Their love is desperate and aching and they're not just friends, but they are definitely not dating, and a LOT of the fandom interprets them as queerplatonic.

Oh, the special kind of affection and friendship that can only bloom between a 1930s private detective and the eldritch entity that ends up possessing his eyes and left arm. 95% of this show is Arthur (the detective) bickering with John (the eldritch entity) like an old married couple, and falling in and out of trust with each other. Despite that they are both fiercely loyal to the other and by the point the podcast is at now they seem to trust each other implicitly - Arthur has to rely on John to guide him since John can see out of the eyes of their body and Arthur can't, but when they fall into an abandoned mine and are reunited (long story) they immediately fall back into that old, trusting rhythm. They share a body and their initial goal in the podcast is to be separated, but by the point we're at now they're not too fussed about it. They're making plans to go out to dinner and the movies. Also, Arthur is aro-coded - there's a big emotional arc that involves him accepting the fact that he never had romantic feelings for his wife, even during the birth of their child or her death, and how that doesn't make him a bad person or diminish the love he felt for that child.

They have fought gods together. Also they're positive plural representation. What is there not to love????

favorite thing is probably The Trip. made me fall in love with riza and get everything about her in a split second. least favorite thing is...i mean, it's tricky, because it's also something i like about them, but the fact that their codependency extends to dual suicide is something they will. probably need to work on. like in their future.

I would like to apologize for any spelling errors/run on sentences here. I’m rambling out of excitement :]

Peridot and Lapis have the most QPP energy I’ve ever seen and I’m not too sure how to describe it. Peridot is canonically aroace and Peridot and Lapis become very close after becoming roommates (they lived in a barn) and Peridot was absolutely relieved to see Lapis return from space.

When they both had to live together Peridot did everything she could to try to make Lapis comfortable (did she fail? Yeah, but she still tried her best) and Peridot even gave Lapis a tape recorder similar to the one she had received as a gift from Steven when she was trying to get used to being on Earth.

They respect each other and make inside jokes about how they used to be villains! They made a bunch of art and put it in their barn and called it “meep morps”! They have a sentient pumpkin dog (named “Pumpkin”)! Lapis and Peridot aren’t canonically QPPs, but if someone told me that they were I’d believe it without proof.

AND I REPEAT !! KISS!! SURE SMALL PECKS BUT THATS NOT VERY FRIEND LIKE !! ive read many queerplatonic galaxy duo fanfics, but i think they're just romantically crushing on eachother and w time their relationship quickly escalated and neither of them wants to ask the big "what are we?" question. (plus, I hc every season of the series happens in a different season of the year, maybe in different years?? idk cause i didnt count for 3rd life but i dont think it would count as spring... Double Life: I don't wanna talk too much abt their relationship in DL cus it makes me so mentally ill, reminds me of sum personal lore in my life I wont get into, but I still love em. I hc soulmates have some shared features w their soulmates, different for everyone, like these two have the ends of their hair the color of the others hair. after the "divorce" Pearl tried to cut off that teal part but the ends just gew upwards, like the teal part just appeared in his new ends when moon cut off the old ones, so at the end he just used red dye to dye em red. Also I feel like they lowkey miss eachother even if both are too stubborn to talk to eachother and at least try to fix things. (winter. winter freezes. often killing all that in summer grew green)

Limited Life: Oh hoh ho... the drama is back but the toxicity is gone. frienemies, exes, a bit petty still but can joke about it for a lil, have forgiven eachother but at times still feel resentment. they live very far away, yet when they interact in person, if things are 1o1 and there isnt any of their allies nearby, gosh can the tension be cut with a knife. not only tension in the way or anger, but sometimes just being awkward around eachother, sometimes homosexual tension, sometimes homoerotic tension- (half joke, i wont talk abt nsfw stuff but theyre adults). They stare at eachother from across the room thinking either "i wanna punch you so bad" or "i would so go and kiss you right here right now", or both. However theyre still fairly friendly, its not the same as *Our Last Summer*, since they'll maybe pull petty pranks on eachother, specially the Nosy Neighbors on Mean Gills, with Pearl mostly having Scott's ever so slightly upset reaction, if even to get a groan or frown from him, tho he doesnt hate her anymore, its not like winter, thats in the past. Autumn comes and makes leafs fall... it gets rid of the dead waste of what winter killed, preparing for Spring...

Secret Life: ... for a new beginning. Spring comes along, a new, more lighthearted game at the start. After going through so much stuff together, everything they've overcome, "That's in the past" "It was a one time thing?" "Yeah, yeah" "Well, I'm glad we agree... glad we can move past that". And they start again, blank page, althrough clearly stained by past moments, they can look back at them fondly and joke around about it without hard feelings. Not only that, but they finally make up their minds, both of them get their shit together and can finally label their relationship, make it official... tho whats a game about secrets without some secrets of their own? So at first, with a bit of fear of what their allies would say, but also just in a way to keep privacy and get a laugh out of others confusions, they meet up in secret. Secret meetings at night or when their allies are out, whispering to eachother and giving eachother accomplice looks, finding hiden spots to sit down and talk. They're plenty suspicious in plain sight, but with all the reasons there could be for them to be hiding something? Maybe theyre up to no good! Maybe they're plotting destruction! Maybe its got to do with their tasks! Yeah, it drives the yellows mad in particular, trying to guess their tasks just to be told it couldnt be further from correct or that they already complited theirs. Now some participants are a bit oblivious, but others can put 2 and 2 together pretty quickly... they'd keep their mouths shut tho, cause seeing the others lose their mind trying to uncover their "plans" is quite the funny sight. Maybe some would get a push like a little knudge from Cleo "They're dating, Bdubs" "... OHHHH, SO THATS WHY". The Roomies all know for sure, Impulse suspects, to Gem and the Mounders it never crossed their minds, unsure about others tbh but thats what I know for sure. But yeah! Maybe at first they'd have a "Bad Idea" (from Waitress) moment, tho that song also could fit an ""afair"" in LimL from what ive talked with a friend, but yeah. They're destined to die anyways, since the finale means only one can win, and that winner is neither of them, but they'll meet in the next game. Tilly next time. Or, Tilly death does them part...

... except not, cause not even death can do that, cause they are able to find eachother in every single universe, no matter the circumstances, even if their situation isnt ideal in some, they're always together, in one way or another.
