Favorite Merceleth headcanons?

Merceleth isn't really a ship I have headcanons for? it's more like I have reasons for liking them as a couple, but also those reasons are kind of grounded in hc?

I guess one headcanon is that they're very in tune, almost inherently. Shortly after getting to know each other, they know they can rely on the other as if they were their right hand. They balance each other out, yes, but they're also on the same page about a lot of things. Their backgrounds, personalities, behavior, they balance each other out, but like their nature is the same page. If that makes sense.

I love merceleth because of that mix of opposite (devil/angel, mercenary/nun, fighting/healing, deadpan/cheery, good with complex things* and bad with people/bad with complex things and good with people, etc) and of connection; It's what makes them such an entertaining pair to me. I love imagining everyone else in the monastery being baffled by their in tune-ness and how well they understand eachother.

My other headcanon is that part of why they connect is their childhoods; Byleth grew up in a mercenary band, and as well adjusted they may be, that's still a pretty disillusioning and violent upbringing. Mercedes grew up in an abusive family and lost her brother at a young age. This is hard to explain unless you've experienced it, but going through life having had a chaotic childhood can make you feel disconnected from your peers, like you can't be on their level because you've learned to navigate disfunction while they have known function, or the things that seem important to them seem irrelevant to you (or whatever! this is a nuanced thing). So when they meet, they find someone, like them, who "gets it", who they feel normal around.

(I have spent the better part of two years obsessing about Mercedes's psychology and childhood, which is where most of my headcanons lie. Probably my most important Mercedes hc is that she's a CSA survivor, and that definitely effects her relationship with Byleth, so that's a merceleth hc by association; it definitely ties into my point above about meeting someone who can understand your trauma.)

More traditional hcs because you got me going now: I think they'd try on each other's clothes and have a great time. I've said this before but I think prof au they mix up letters to each other and graded papers and accidentally hand back a letter to students. I think they stay up all night talking. I think they both admire the other's way of doing things, like Mercedes is very impressed with Byleth's sword skills and Byleth is so impressed by her sewing. I think they're both smart but when they together they become idiots (affectionate) I think individually they're good in a crisis but if they're together they will somehow make the situation worse. I think prof au they are always sneaking their relationship around seteth. I think they see the students as kids but the faculty sees THEM as kids. They are a sitcom duo to me <333 these characters are pure serotonin <333 theyre so silly <333

*I don't know how else to say this?? I mean Byleth is good at war strategy and teaching a lot of different subjects and is just super intelligent in specific ways that Mercedes is. not. she can't hold too many numbers in her head at once she is self diagnosed scatterbrained.

1. princess cadance - sidenote i prided myself as a child about being able to spell her name right? merchandise would spell it wrong and i thought i was sooo cool. okay anyway i think she's so lovely, her episodes are the best and i think a canterlot wedding is one of the best 2 parters Ever. they outdid themselves there, plus i believe the first mlp thing i ever saw was when it was airing (this and winter wrap up i definitely saw when they aired, but then i went and started from the beginning on netflix i think. fuzzy memory) she's lovecore and sooo sweet and she has the prettiest voice and i love her design..her purple gradient wings are Everything. sunshine sunshine ladybugs awake <333

2. applejack - i love big sibling characters this is very obvious anyway OUGH i love her element, i think it was characterized really well and she's so caring. apple family episodes make me nostalgic and i REALLY love her rivalry with rainbow dash. i dont think they tokenized her honesty i think it was natural and fun and also shes so pretty Love her design. thank you ashleigh ball for your genius

3. the CMC - putting them all because i genuinely cant pick one on her own if that makes sense. i love sweetie belle and think she's really relatable, for whom the sweetie belle toils is one of the Best mlp episodes ever and i stand by it. her learning that not knowing the full story can lead to dangerous assumptions and impulsive behavior is uh. yeah. <3 also her singing is soooo beautiful michelle creber i looove you. theyre all relatable actually, scootaloo oughfh i know exactly what it's like not being able to do something because of being disabled and god. flight to the finish is a heartbreaking episode because she's just pushing herself nonstop to try and achieve something she'll never be able to. and her relationship with rainbow dash also means everything to me, DUDE. "i'm so proud of you little buddy" in we'll make our mark is one of the lines that makes me Cry. the cmc getting their cutie marks DID make me cry and continues to. I LOVE APPLE BLOOM i used to voice her in my little voice acting friend group when i was 13! she's still fun to do a voice for, once again i adore michelle creber! her leadership skills are so cool i always got the sense that she wanted to be like AJ while also very much valuing her individuality. she's intuitive and she vents out her frustrations and i think she's really well written. the duos in the cmc is also really interesting to me.. apple bloom and scootaloo wanting to cause trouble while sweetie belle is their one voice of reason is one of my favorite dynamica. it's a mess, theyre a mess. but theyre also kids and should be allowed to be a mess, theyre wonderful characters. also they have the best songs truly

4. twilight - i dont think i realized how much i liked and related to twilight until like, 2020. i think she's a really good protagonist and i personally had no issue with her getting wings. if u hate it that's cool but im built different. her special interest in reading/learning is soooo good and her hyperlexia coming in handy when they needed to gain information fast was always cool to see. the crystal empire episodes are amazing oh my god i remember watching the pilot to season 3 and losing my MIND king sombra felt Very high stakes and i get heavy nostalgia from any mlp episode with snow in it. i think twilight sacrificing herself is a very important trait in her, because she'd do it a thousand times if it meant saving and protecting others. she's a really good teacher and i really liked the episode where she helps the cmc with their hobbies!! also her getting RD into books is everything. i love twilight i love her conversations with spike, i love that she kinda goes insane sometimes. i love owlicious and her tree library (i dont really like her castle. it's pretty but doesnt feel very . home to me..make this castle a home felt like the writers knew my thoughts HDJSHDJ)

5. rainbow dash - aha okay so RD was my favorite my entire childhood and i think i was justified on that. she's so cool and adhd of all time, but i think at some point i just found more joy in when characters are really thoughtful. not to say she isnt thoughtful, but she's a bit airheaded. ive Loved the wonderbolts costume for as long as i can remember i think it's very gender. also RD's friendship with everyone is important to me. i love that she's able to pull fluttershy out of her shell, i love that her and pinkie have the most energy out of everyone in the show (pinkie pride is a really good episode and also breaks my heart. pinkie pie RSD episode of ever) fall weather friends is one of my favorite episodes, i could watch it over and over!! i love her and AJ's dynamic theyre so fun theyre so cool once again love ashleigh ball. her support for scootaloo makes me weep, the way she cares for tank also puts me in tears. i love her design I LOVE THE WHOLE LORE WITH THE SONIC RAINBOOM. the fact the mane 6 are connected by this One event is bonkers and so rad. i think her loyalty could've been written better, but that's like my only real problem. sometimes the elements are just..not very real feeling cough cough rarity cough

sidenote i love like everyone in the show, mostly. i think discord is so entertaining and a disaster. his friendship with fluttershy is special. also luna ohhh luna is so lovely. her story makes me feel many emotions!! and i love sunset shimmer

when i saw u talking abt this fic on tumblr and when you started uploading the first few chapters, i was so so excited for this story. cant believe i hit a reading slum exactly as you uploaded most of it </3 but! im back now and i immediately went back to binge read this over the last two days, it has been so much fun :D first of all, yeah the concept is genius obviously. season 8 really dumped the wildest things on all of us and just expected us to be normal abt it huh. really glad somebody picked up the souleating storyline again, it had soo much fun potential and yeah you hit all of it. the themes?? and narratives?? in this story?? have been driving me insane theyre so good. going from what it means to be human to is this really me if im always wearing a facade to my identity not as a human or watcher but as a hermit sososososososo good. i have developed all the feeling for the way you portray mumbos and grians relationship like. yeah. yeah they really are that close huh. of course they end up soulmates with the most unfortunate timing possible. of course they do. i dont think ive ever felt as soft as when reading the preening scenes. ALL THE OTHER CHARACTERS TOO THO like skyduo!!!!!!!!! siblinghood is real they invented it. impulse scar everyone!! adored scar taking jellie to the void with him bc ofc. ofc he would. and the scene with jimmy ooo he really is Your Guy huh. "Jimmy held his secrets so close to his chest that people never even knew he had them" ough ough ough ough ough my man my boy my lad. i think having read the listerner!jimmy fic before that also added soso much. grian really saw the dream smp and said no thank u <3 and i think that was very correct of him BUT YEAH overall? amazing writing epic characterizations so many little lines that made me stop and just rethink how i think abt these characters haha. i am afraid i must plagiarize all of your ideas in my brian 😔 ur watcher concepts are simply too good to not be canon I HOPE U HAVE A GREAT TIME WRITING THE SEQUEL I CANT WAIT TO SEE IT

mumbo and grian's relationship...they make me ill! they make me ill. it's like...idk as much as LOVE desert duo, when it comes to my own writing i seem to just write mumbo and grian over and over again. they're just so. yeah. <3 im glad you like the preening scenes there will likely be more of them. it's just such an easily intimate type of scene you know? and the fact that grian up until this point has most done it alone (minus pearl helping sometimes), which is pretty uncomfortable and tedius when he can't easily reach his own back. and im so glad you appreciate scar taking jellie into the void he would never abandon her <3 it was one of my fave funny/lighthearted parts of the series

YEAH JIMMY IS MY GUY. in a fic about grian and mumbo i manage to still insert jimmy solidarity brainrot into it. he'll be in the sequel too--not in any major role but i promise you he will There at some point because empires minorly factors into it. I'M SO GLAD THAT YOU LOVED THAT LINE. i know that i say every line someone quotes is my favorite but that might actually be one of my favorites in the whole fic. the Lonesome Dreams backstory for jimmy was in the works for a long time before I ever wrote the fic, since i came up with that before i even came up with htbahb. so I absolutely intended everything from that fic to be implicated in that line <3 also you're right, i think lonesome dreams does add to it. i may or may not put it in the series, but lonesome dreams is also planned to work with other series as well, so idk

AND YESSS THE DSMP REFERENCE i had a lot of fun with it. i chose blue and gold for the door because it reminded me of l'manberg uniforms and was less obvious than green for dream. i also like my other slight dsmp-adjacent throwaway in mcc too, where when mumbo joins the server tommy comments in chat about seeing him as a father figure (mcc19 does take place after that one collab video...just sayin')

i am having a great time writing the sequel!! i actually have an update (not...chapter update. status update) to post no it later this week :eyes: because i finally reached a point where i can make proper progress on it. aka i was able to work out a lot of details and planning and am in the midst of writing it as fast as i can

01: How did you get into SHINee?

well first @purewhiteflames​ started getting into girls generation so then i started gettin into kpop but i was like “ew... boy bands i dont like... only girls are ok...people only like boy bands for their muscles and faces....” but then @1of1prism​ was all into shinee and stuff and i was like “well eh theyre ok but I only like Green Rain.... And that little bit from Juliette...” And I thought that I had started to like them along with @1of1prism​ but after a lengthy discussion with her a while ago apparently I only started liking them like.... recently haha! But now I’ve realized their true potential. And I don’t hate minho anymore so thats a plus
