G'morning all! Its nice to get back things,. Theres been some roadblocks with med shortages and life, and also with the material for these recipes. So far we've covered a lot of pastries, not because theyre mentioned more often in the series, but because being mentioned lends them more specificity in flavor than things like gravy, peas, or various meats. The latter can be prepped, seasoned, and served in so many different ways that it feels harder to make them 'faithfully' because a packet of instant potato mash is just as faithful as a pot of buttered potato mash. Baked goods tend towards 1, maybe 2, 'base' recipes that get altered and added to. 

 Today, we'll be making Beorn's Honey Cakes! A dish from one of my partners favorite characters- a delectable little treat befitting the… warm personality of the character.

SO, “what goes in to Beorn's Honey Cakes?” YOU MIGHT ASKSimple stuff! Simple sweet stuff!

All-purpose flour

Baking powder

Salt

Ground nutmeg

Unsalted butter

Whole milk

2 eggs

Honey

Vanilla extract

The veins of honey cakes ancestry can be traced back to any moment where people began baking bread. Honey is a natural preservative, and sweeter still on its lonesome.

AND, “what does Beorn's Honey Cakes taste like?” YOU MIGHT ASKLike your aching muscles repairing themselves

Tastes like a honey graham cracker

But the texture is softer, wetter- somewhat like banana bread

Oh, and this will make your house smell So So Good

If you can resist the temptation of eating them immediately, they taste even richer the day after baking

Would pair well with milk green tea

Would also pair well with fresh orange slices (or those chocolate 'orange slices' candy)

Genuinely don't forget to flip them upside down when they go to bake the second time, not sure what it is but i was curious and did a test where i flipped half of the batch upside down and kept the other half of the batch right-side up like they cooked in the muffin tin. The ones i flipped upside down universally had a more consistent texture and the honey was able to permeate further.

From start to finish this recipe takes about an hour of work, give or take some negligible time for prep.

The batter is perhaps the babybird of all cake batters. The gloopy, protruding crumbs of butter, not unlike a squabs beady pupils visibly dark under its skin, break up the mass of sickly smooth and reassuringly sweet-smelling oak-colored liquid. You can feel the confusion of bees outside your home, wondering if this your attempt at making royal jelly.

Just like a babybird, it becomes more than the sum of its parts. Layer on that honey drizzle, layer it on thick, theres no risk of drowning subtle flavors. Its crisp edges will keep its form, springy and warm, inviting you as if you're not the one who crafted it (food you didn't cook always tastes better). The bees are sooooooooooooooo jealous of your opposable thumbs and muscular strength.

If you dont have eggs you could try substituting with apple mash. I can't vouch for it in this recipe but replacing eggs with mashed up apples for pancakes gives it adds a nice fruity flavor without changing the texture, and in theory should work here as well.

I give this recipe a solid 10/10 (with 1 being food that makes one physically sick and 10 being food that gives one a lust for life again.) 

🐁 ORIGINAL RESIPPY TEXT BELOW 🐁

Ingredients:

270 grams all-purpose flour

1 1/2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp freshly ground nutmeg

1 stick unsalted butter

160 grams milk

2 eggs

110 grams your favorite honey

1 tsp vanilla extract

Muffin tray and parchment paper

Method:

Preheat oven to 350f

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.

 Add the butter and rub it into the flour with your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. 

In a small bowl beat the eggs until just combined. Pour in milk and then vanilla extract while stirring.  Keep stirring vigorously while slowly pouring in honey.

Stir until the mixture is consistent in color.

Pour the liquids over the dry mixture and stir until just combined.

Pour the batter into a greased muffin tray, don't use any muffin paper/lining/cups.

Bake for 16 minutes, or until they reach their full height.

Carefully remove from the muffin pan and place the muffins upside down on a parchment lined tray.

Using a silicone pastry brush, generously cover the tops of the cakes with honey. Allow to sit for about 5 minutes to let the honey soak into the cakes.

Bake for an additional 8-10 minutes, or until the cakes are golden brown.

Remove from the oven and allow to cool.

you probably send him a text about how bad your day was, or venting about an incident at work and the second hes off the clock, hes heading to a wonderful bakery that he frequently splurges at.

the box he brings home is huge and heavy, but packed to the brim with one of every pastry they offer while in his head hes thinking about making a sandwich thats layered with tons of different fillings. all together, his plan for dinner is incredibly calorie dense, but as long as youre happy he doesnt mind.

when he gets home, he gives you a kiss from where youre laying in a sad heap on the couch, but you perk up at the pretty box he set down on the coffee table.

if you ask what it is, a sly grin is plastered on his face, 'something to make you feel better.' is all he says before tucking you under his chin and letting you vent about your day.

as you start talking, hes going to hold up macarons, donuts stuffed with whipped cream and strawberries, custard hand pies, whatever is handheld and easy to bring to your mouth.

then once youre more distracted by eating than talking, hell start handing you huge croissants stuffed with cream and fruits, different flavors of cale slices, mini fruit parfaits.

and then, unexpectedly, you turn around from where youre sitting in his lap. 'try some su!' you cajole as he denies over and over.

'theyre for you to feel better, not me.' he argues, but you whine.

'you wanna know what would make me feel better? if you ate something.'

that finally convinces him to open his mouth and eat a macaron that was left over from the many flavors he bought, and your reply stopped him in his tracks.

'good boy!' you kissed his neck as he swallowed and turned back around like nothing happened.

underneath you, his dick probably twitched and you covered up your evil smile with a spoonful of the two thick slices of triple chocolate cake on the flimsy paper plate in your hands.

'come down here guru, try some of this,'

this time, hes obedient and leans over your shoulder for a bite out of the other rich slice you hadnt touched yet.

'here, some more.' another forkful and suddenly youre putting bite after bite of cake in front of his mouth and hes willingly taking it into his mouth and swallowing.

eventually the two of you are tearing apart the rest of the box.

hed hold a huge glazed donut to your lips that youd finish in two bites, suguru would get four or five pieces of fudge popped into his mouth one after the other.

finally, he moans around a huge frosted cookie being shoved in his mouth and buries his flushed face in your neck.

sugurus breathing hard with crumbs around his mouth while youre swallowing down your last slice of strawberry shortcake that had a thick white glaze across the top of it.

'does your tummy hurt?' you asked, hands already moving down to his distended torso. from personal experience, something as intense as what the two of you just did would always result in you whining for gentle tummy rubs.

'yeah, yeah.' you laid him back on the couch and moved his shirt up for better access.

once you get your hands on the tight skin of his tummy, he moans at first contact and arches his back.

you stop and let him settle before going back to caressing from the bottom of his taut and heavy belly to the top and back down again.

he keeps moaning and writhing, but combined with the way his round tummy poked up definitely added to your little fantasy of getting him pregnant. maybe you could get him to have twins somehow...

forrest!! SOS!! i have no good food to eat!! ik u can cook so can u tell us some yummy recipes?

oh god i feel like senshi because im so so very late to this ask because ive been in a slump with cooking myself and youve definitely eaten by now. BUT i have a few that i make either when i want comfort food that still checks some boxes of being kind of nutritious or that are just fast

i. spam musubi but its not actually

spam musubi are these awesome hand held things. sometimes they have egg sometimes they dont but i will eat a whole can worth in one go. so i do it as a bowl instead

i start jasmine rice in our rice cooker and chop the spam into cubes vs slices like it would be for musubi. fry them on medium high until theyre crispy. then ill julienne an onion and add it to the spam. once the onion is starting to soften ill add the sauce. the recipe i saw was 2tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp mirin with like a spoon full of sugar (honestly it was probably just under a tbsp) but ive been cheating recently and using a japanese bbq sauce i found at our local asian grocery store. once everything is coated i cook it a few mins so the sauce thickens up. by then the rice should be done and then you just take a scoop of each and i add seaweed on top

i know its not proper but since will doesnt like the sweet savory combo and im the only one eating it this way is easier for me to handle. i can store the rice and spam separately so nothing gets mushy and even refry the spam when i want to heat it back up

ii. black bean, pepper and cheese quesadilla

this is actually how i got will to try beans. i just take a can of black beans and dump the whole thing into a pot and cook on medium until i can smash them. ill also fry peppers and onions on medium until they have a little char. spices are honestly up to you and how spicy you want it. i usually put salt, pepper, cumin, paprika, chili powder and garlic in with the beans. once the beans are mostly smashed and the peppers cooked ill throw them together and smash them more just so everything is easier to spread onto a tortilla. that plus you can add your cheese. ive shredded my own and used grocery store mixes so its up to you!

iii. spicy garlic tofu

almost no notes on this. i use less maple syrup than the recipe calls for so 1tbsp of everything in the sauce. and instead of gochujang i use a chinese chili paste, imo it ends up less ketchup flavored but if you like ketchup then just use gochujang

i dont make this as often but this is a recipe i use as a base and then cheat. i swap in frozen veggies and it speeds everything up

v. hotpot

i love making hotpot at home. its super easy skill wise it just takes some time. you can buy premixed hot pot bases from the grocery store if you have an asian grocery store near you and you just dunk stuff in the soup until its cooked. you just need to watch out for the spice level of the broth

will and i will usually get thinly sliced beef, rice cakes, udon noodles, fish cakes, bok choy and mushrooms. all you do is bring the broth to a boil and cook your ingredients. sometimes i dunk with chopsticks other times i cook with a small strainer lol

Stu is 100% the fun one and billy is the bummer. Stu lets you outside, gives you sweets, and food you're craving, behind billy's back.

A lot of people liked my queerplatonic Chadhime post so here's more :)

Orihime unconsciously stands next to Chad whenever she can. Whenever theyre together with Uryuu and Renji and whoever else is in their group and Ichigo isn't there or is guiding the team, her spot is always by Chad's side. Usually between him and Uryuu, but honestly whenever.

Back when they were in high school, Chad would go over to Orihime's house in the evening's just to talk and eat dinner together. They'd talk about their fears and worries for oncoming battles, about Ichigo and Rukia, and about their nightmares, which they both have frequently.

They'd train together at night, and would always give pointers to each other about how they could improve. Chad would teach Orihime things he'd learned from his grandfather, and Orihime would teach Chad things she learned from Tatsuki. Chad would walk Orihime home if it was too late at night, and when it wasn't, they'd text each other that they were ok once they got home, and would wish each other sweet dreams.

When Ichigo goes to the Seireitei for awhile, Orihime wouldn't have anyone to help her sleep through the night, worry overwhelming her and bringing back the PTSD from her younger days, and she couldn't very well bring her son into it, so she'd call Chad and they'd talk each other to sleep over the phone. His snores, if he does snore, helps calm her to darkness rather than nightmares. There aren't any nice dreams, but that's the best she could hope for.

Sometimes Chad would even sleep over if he stayed over too late. Although its no problem for him to be walking around at night, its more convenient to just sleep over.

Day 6- Coffee shop date.

Pairing: Mey-rin x reader.

Finally it was Friday night. You were excited because Friday night is date night, the one day you and your girlfriend get to finish work early, curtesy of a very suspiciously giving demon, and run away into town to do something, just the two of you.

“Where to tonight my dear” you ask in a fake fancy voice. It gets a giggle out of mey-rin and the nickname gets a blush, its adorable that she still blushes at nicknames after years of dating.

“Oh! We could go to the new coffee shop in town, the cakes in the windows look so good!” She says dreamily. Shes always drawn in by the sweet selections in any store so youre not surprised thats why she wants to go.

The autumn air is cold as you walk down the main street to the coffee shop but as you arrive you feel the tingle of warmth come back to your skin. As the door swings open, courtesy of an over excited girlfriend, the warmth hits and the coffee smell invades your senses. Mey-rin wasnt lying the cakes in the window look amazing and youre pleasantly surprised to find they make your favourite.

“Mey, they make it, they have my favourite!” You whisper shout, just a little over excited but not wanting to embarrass yourself. She smiles and takes your hand before walking with you to the counter.

“I know i saw it when i walked past the other week, i just didnt want to tell you so that itd be a surprise when we came” she speaks animatedly and it makes you chuckle, its sweet that she still wanted to surprise you.

Shed always been the shy blushy type until a few months into your relationship after that she settled and was fairly confident and happy and her way of showing that was surprises the she knew youd like. A testament to how well you know each other you suppose but secretly to her, it was her way of thanking you for being so patient with her stuttering mess of a self.

“You order and ill pick a table, probably one near the window?” You say it like a question but you’re talking more to yourself than Mey-rin. The table you pick sits right in front of the glass windows, you can see the people bustling down the street and itd give you a heads up on the weather before you left.

Your quick table decision helps in your favour because as you take your coat off you turn to see your girlfriend almost tripping with both your drinks in her hands. Its become a habit, remembering to do things fast so you can catch mey-rin but this time, you see the danger before it happens.
