Ahh thank you sm for reading that! I really thought it was bad but I’m glad you enjoyed that fic :’^D
Hopefully you’d enjoy this just as much! I didn’t know what to write about, so I just chose puppy love(?) fluff ✨✨✨
Note: (y/c) is ‘your collection’ btw! Initially I put vinyls but not everyone collects that so I just put whatever you as a reader would collect ✨✨✨
Marui Bunta x Reader
“Oh no, its raining now Marui-kun,” you said with a sigh. Neither of you had brought an umbrella along, you had always most of the time depended on someone else’s umbrella so most of the time it wasn’t a problem.
Unluckily for you, Marui was just like you.
Luckily for Marui though, it meant that he had more time to spend with you. And maybe go for another round of desserts in the bakery you both just exited from.
“Hey, care for another round of dessert?” he’d nudge you by the shoulder and showed his gummy smile.
“Maruiiiii,” you whined “I’m gonna be broke, and its all because of you,”
“Aw c’mon (y/n), you can spend loads on your whatever you call those-“
“(y/c)! Theyre called (y/c)!” you corrected him
“Ah yes, (y/c), but you’re not willing to be broke, spending time with me?” he exaggerated his sad tone and looked at you with puppy dog eyes.
“Please? Just this once? I’ll treat you next time please?”
You sighed yet again and said bye bye to your allowance this month
“Fine, geez you’re the biggest brat I know,” you pinched his arm and he jumped a lil
“But I’m your favourite tensai brat right? That’s a fact, btw,” you looked at him and sticked your tongue out.
You can’t believe how you actually have a big fat crush on this self-proclaimed genius. He was cute, but good lord he can really get on your nerves.
You guys haven’t really confessed to each other or anything, but it was pretty obvious to people around you, and to the both of you, that you guys liked each other. So you guys were basically an item.
A thing about Marui and you, whenever you guys sat on the same table you always played footsies; your friends are well, tired and kept telling the both of you to get a room.
Both of you would go red afterwards and just divert the attention to something else.
“I really don’t understand how you managed to rlly finish those, watching you eat, really makes my teeth hurt,” you held your cheek.
“Well if you’re not gonna eat then that’s more for me right? Thanks for the meal!” he’d gobble those cakes like its no one’s business. In all honesty, you loved seeing him eat his heart out. It was adorable and you just wanted to squish his cheeks.
Marui held your hand and squeezing them slightly before intertwining your fingers together.
“Nhyou brobly hbnow tghish but I laig nhyou,” he said looking at his cake and his ears as red as his hair.
You actually understood what he said but you teased him and told him that you don’t understand it; and that he’d have to repeat it again.
“I said,” he inhaled “Ireallylikeyouevenifyouprobablyalreadyknowit” he exhaled.
“But I bet you’re glad cause the genius said that right?” He coughed a bit and tried to remain smug but his face, dear lord, is still so red even up to his ears.
You giggled and smiled at him brightly
“You also probably know this, but, I feel the same way!”
“What do you mean same way? You should say it like how I did too (y/n)! That’s not fair,” he pouted
“Hey the rain stopped Marui-kun! You should hurry up and finish your food, its getting late already,” you changed the topic, still smiling ear to ear though
Marui groaned and hurriedly finished it, you were surprised he managed to not choke.
And the both of you walked home together, fingers intertwined.
- Extra -
Niou looked at you two in disgust. “Seriously guys? You’re publicly holding hands? Ew?” he shuddered
Everyone just said oh dear lord finally but oh dear lord pda
But you didn’t care, and you just hooked arms with Marui more often!
Marui though, is quite embarrassed but he didn’t mind, but he also did mind sometimes, but what can he do, its you anyway

🎾 Security; Bunta Marui (Sportember #026)
Tumblr media
📑 Table of Contents | ⚾ Challenge Post
Genre: Slice of Life, Fluff
Word Count: 762
Pairing: Reader x Marui
World: The Prince of Tennis
Prompt: Secure
Sport: Tennis
Author’s Note: I feel like as it gets closer to the end of the month and I finish off working on these, they get shorter and shorter ;_;) Like I don’t mean for it to go that way, I stop writing when it feels appropriate, but… I also feel like I’m doing a disservice to the set, I don’t know. I won’t lie and say this set hasn’t been stressful as fuck, though lol but that’s my own fault! Hopefully, these are still enjoyable.
━━━━━━༻🎾_🏀_🏐༺━━━━━━
You stretched your arms above your head as you settled down on the metal bleachers, glancing at your boyfriend as he interacted with his fanclub, comprised mostly of female students that were crushing on him. You may be biased, but you could understand why they were so starstruck by him.
Marui Bunta was, by all accounts, an incredible boy. He was smart and friendly, always offering a smile or a helping hand to others. Plus he was athletic, good at playing tennis, and he was gorgeous. There was very little not to love about him.
Saeka, your friend and classmate, settled down beside you, following your eyes before frowning at you. “I don’t know how you do it, Y/N.”
“Hm?” You tilted your head, looking at her in confusion. “What do you mean?”
“Dating someone popular like Marui-san,” she clarified. “He’s always surrounded by fangirls trying to date him. You know they talk bad about you, right?”
“Probably,” you smiled softly, propping up your chin in your palm. “Some of them are really nice, though!”
“Don’t you get… jealous at all?” She wondered, brow furrowed as she watched the third-year accepting a box of chocolates from one of the girls.
“No. Why would I?”
“Well, some of them are really beautiful, you know? What if he…” she bit her lip, sending you a weary look. It felt wrong to ask the words out loud, as if that would somehow curse you to befall that fate.
You knew what she meant, though. “Marui is incredible for several different reasons, one of those reasons being loyalty. He isn’t a man that would cheat on the person he’s dating. If he’s not happy with someone, he’d break up with them, not seek the company of another.”
“But how can you be sure of that?”
“Hmm, well, I suppose it has something to do with trust.” You tapped your chin, glancing up at the sky, lightly covered by grey clouds. “When it comes to our relationship, I feel secure knowing that he isn’t that kind of guy. Maybe one day I’ll find out that I’m wrong, but I don’t believe I am.”
“You’re so cool, Y/N,” she murmured, giving you a look of awe. “I hope I can find a relationship like that one day!”
“You will, don’t worry!” You smiled.
“Y/N!” Marui jogged over to you with a bright grin, his arms full of treats that had been given to him by his fans. “Look, look! Someone gave me chocolate mousse cookies!”
“How does that work?” You wondered, glancing at Saeko who shrugged in response.
“No clue, but they are amazing. Here,” he shifted the items around before holding out a small plastic box with a stack of cookies inside. You took it, careful not to knock down any of the other treats before popping the lid off.
“They look like normal chocolate chip cookies,” she commented when you held it out to her, letting her grab one before taking one for yourself.
“They seem softer, though,” you added, bringing it to your mouth. Marui watched the two of you with excited eyes as the two of you chewed on the cookies. Your eyes lit up when the taste settled on your tongue. “Wow, these are incredible.”
“See? I told you!” He kneeled down to empty the contents of his arms onto the bench beside you before producing a slip of folded paper. “She was nice enough to write down the recipe! Can we try making them together?”
“Of course,” you smiled at him as you accepted the paper, reading over the small handwriting. “I can’t promise they will taste as good, though.”
He hummed, resting his chin on your knee. “I can guarantee they will taste even better because they were made by you~”
You giggled, poking him on the nose. “You’re such a dork.”
“But I’m your dork~” he wrinkled his nose, sticking his tongue out at you. A smile came upon your lips at that and you nodded, brushing his fushia bangs away from his eyes. He leaned into your touch, his fingers curling around your wrist.
“Marui, let’s go!” Jackal waved his hand from across the court. “It’s time to practice!”
“Coming!” Marui leaned forward, capturing your lips for a moment before pulling away with a smile. “Cheer me on, okay?”
“Of course! Now go before Sanada makes you run laps.”
He nodded, pecking your cheek before jogging over to his best friend to start tennis practice. You smiled as you watched him, munching happily on your cookie.

🎃 Frightful October Act X, #29 ~ Graveyard (Bunta Marui)
Tumblr media
📑 Table of Contents
Genre: Fluff, Romance, Slice of Life
Word Count: 1,038
Pairing: Reader x Marui
World: Prince of Tennis
───── ⋆⋅🎃⋅⋆ ─────
According to your mom, you’re a pretty morbid child. You’ve always been fascinated by the prospect of death and what comes after. Death didn’t scare you nor did it affect you like it did other people. You believed that Death was just a new chapter, not the end of the book like most people believed. Because of this, your classmates were scared of you. To them, you were a witch or a demon, but that didn’t really bother you.
It was lunchtime and you were sitting in Rikkaidai’s courtyard, reading a book about the most haunted locations throughout Japan. You felt a poke on your cheek and glanced over, seeing your best friend and boyfriend kneeling beside you.
“Good afternoon, Bunta.”
He smiled, plopping onto the grass in front of you. “Do you want to watch some scary movies with me to ring in Halloween?”
“I already have plans,” you said softly.
“What~?” he pouted, leaning toward you. “With who?”
You chuckled, caressing his cheek. “I’m going to walk around the graveyard tonight.”
A shiver went down his spine at the mere thought. “Are you going alone?”
“Yes.”
“But that’s dangerous,” he placed his hand over yours. “It’ll be so much more fun to watch movies and stuff ourselves with sweets!”
“Fun for you, yes,” you offered him a smile, intertwining your fingers with his. “I find no enjoyment in watching movies.”
“Eh~? But we went to the movies on our first date,” his brow furrowed in thought. “Oh… you sat through it to make me happy… you should’ve said something, Y/N~”
You leaned in, pecking his sweet lips. “Love is sometimes a sacrifice and that’s alright. Seeing how you got into that movie made me happy, it was worth sitting through.”
The bell rang, telling the students that lunch had come to an end.
You pecked his lips again, lingering a bit longer, before standing up and heading toward the school.
His violet eyes followed you. “Sacrifice, huh?”
───── ⋆⋅🎃⋅⋆ ─────
You changed into a pair of jeans and a sweater, grabbing a jacket before heading downstairs. Your mom was in the kitchen, sitting at the table as she typed away at her computer.
“I’m heading out, mom.”
She frowned, turning toward you. “I don’t like you doing this, you know.”
“I know.”
“But you’re going to do it anyway.”
“Yes.”
“I should’ve grounded you.”
“But you didn’t,” you smiled, giving her a hug. “I’ll be home late, don’t wait up.”
She sighed in defeat, returning the hug. “Get out of here before I change my mind.”
You headed to the front door, slipping on your sneakers before stepping outside. A soft, chilly breeze ruffled your hair and you smiled, enjoying the light nips as your exposed skin. The front gate squeaked as you pulled it open and pushed it closed, clicking into place.
“Y/N.”
“Bunta?” you blinked at him. “What are you doing here?”
He grinned at you, but you could tell it was forced. “I decided to go with you!”
“You don’t have to force yourself,” you frowned, setting your hand on his shoulder. “I know you’re terrified of such things.”
He took your hand, lacing his fingers with yours. “If love is a sacrifice, then it’s not fair if you’re the only one sacrificing!” his smile was genuine and warm, filling you with love.
You cupped his cheek with your free hand, bringing his lips down to your own. He melted against you, his hand pushing against your lower back to pull you closer. “You’re the best boyfriend in the world, you know that?”
He grinned, his cheeks warming up at the compliment. “Let’s get going!”
───── ⋆⋅🎃⋅⋆ ─────
“Careful not to step on any graves,” you told him, handing him a flashlight.
He took it, swallowing hard. “‘kay.”
You walked slowly through the graveyard, weaving between old tombstones and new. Some were broken and cracked, others were covered in dirt or wrapping up with thin vines sprouting from the ground. Every few feet, a tree towered high into the sky, branches bare and gnarled. Broken twigs and fallen leaves littered the ground, echoing in the quiet night when you stepped on them. An owl hooted from a nearby tree, appearing as a black shadow as the full moon shown brightly behind it.
The graveyard was an incredibly peaceful place at night.
You paused, waiting for your boyfriend when he stumbled over a large tree root jutting out of the ground. Your fingers curled around his as the two of you continued toward the center of the graveyard. “Are you doing okay, Bunta?”
“Yeah,” his breath was coming out in puffs of smoke because of the cold. “It’s not as bad as I thought it would be.”
“The full moon is helping out a lot,” you murmured. “It’s usually a lot darker than this.” You gently tugged him over to a stone bench, the cold seeping through your jeans when you sat down.
Marui played with your fingers, twisting the ring on your finger, which he had given to you for your birthday. He often did this when he was nervous or anxious. “If you’re okay with it… maybe I can join you more often.”
You met his gaze with a warm smile. “I would love that. When we leave here, let’s what your favorite movie.”
He grinned, his lips pressing against the back of your hand. “We can snuggle under a warm blanket and steal the candy my younger brothers get tomorrow.”
“That’s mean,” you giggled, glancing at the watch on your wrist. “It technically is tomorrow.”
Marui suddenly reached out, grabbing your cheeks and slapping his lips against yours in an over-exaggerated, sloppy kiss. “Mwah!”
You laughed, wiping his slobber off your mouth with the back of your hand. “Gross, Bunta!”
He pouted, poking your side. “Don’t you wipe away my kisses. Rude.”
“I hardly think that could be considered a kiss.”
“You’re just jealous of my awesome technique,” he flipped his hair dramatically.
“Yes, of course. That’s it is,” you smiled warmly, wrapping your arms around his waist. “Happy Halloween, Bunta~”
He brought you closer to his body, arms wrapped protectively around you as he placed a kiss on the top of your head. “Happy Halloween, beautiful~”

⁂ Sugar Lips (Bunta Marui)
Tumblr media
Genre: Angst, Fluff, Romance ☁
Word Count: 1,471 ☁
Pairing: Reader x Marui ☁
World: Prince of Tennis ☁
━━━━━━༻🌧️༺━━━━━━
You watched your boyfriend as he played a practice match with Akaya. Yukimura sat beside you, overseeing practice. His mind, however, was focusing on more than just that. The team had gotten used to your presence on the court since you always waited on your boyfriend. You never disturbed practice, so Sanada and Yukimura had no problem with you watching.
Spending every afternoon with them for several months now, Yukimura had picked up on how you normally acted, making it easy for him to spot when something was amiss. You definitely had something on your mind and it worried him.
He called your name softly and offered you a smile when you moved your gaze to him. “Is everything alright?”
You smiled back, but it seemed a bit forced to him. “Yeah, I’m fine.”
His smile disappeared and he just stared at you, making you squirm uncomfortably under his piercing gaze. Yukimura did not like being lied to.
With a sigh, you slumped against the back of the bench. “I think… Bunta-kun is going to break up with me.”
He was shocked at the confession. “Why would you think something like that?”
“He won’t kiss me…” You mumbled, feeling slightly childish at the admission. “We’ve been dating for over six months. Surely that warrants a kiss or two.”
“I see. Have you talked to him about this?”
“Of course not!” Pink dusted your cheeks. The truth was, you were afraid to ask in case he rejected you. How awkward would that be?
Yukimura patted your shoulder as if he could sense your fears. “If there’s a problem in the relationship, the only way to solve it is by talking it over. Otherwise, it will go unsolved and can drive a wedge between you.”
He was right, you knew that, but it was easier said than done. You had fallen in love with Marui – your first and only. You weren’t so much of a dreamer that you expected to be with him until the day you died, but you did want to be with him for more than just six months. What if he really did want to break up with you but didn’t know how? If you brought it up, he might just go forward and say it.
On the other hand, did you really want to date someone that didn’t want to be with you? You knew that was a bad situation for both of you, so you decided to confront him after practice ended.
As time passed by, however, your confidence began to waver. What if it was because of you that he didn’t want to share a kiss? Did your breath smell bad? Did the thought of kissing you disgust him?
You shook your head with a groan, hoping to get rid of those negative thoughts. Just what was this boy doing to you? You had never been overly confident, but you rarely doubted yourself. Yet, when it came to Marui, your mind always snapped to negativity about yourself.
“You okay, bubblegum?”
You jumped when Marui’s voice reached your ears. The usual tired smile he gave you after practice had been replaced by a frown, his brow furrowed in worry. Seeing him make that kind of expression made your heart hurt, especially knowing that you were the cause of it.
Another forced smile. “Yeah, I’m fine. Are you done with practice?”
He nodded, still regarding you with worry. He knew something was wrong, but he wasn’t sure if he should press it or not. “I’m gonna go get changed and then we can leave, okay? I won’t take long.”
You watched as he walked towards the locker room. You were so nervous, you were starting to shake lightly. You were thinking about chickening out, but then you caught Yukimura’s gaze from across the court. At first glance, it looked like a simple encouraging smile, but nothing was ever simple with Rikkai’s buchou. No, the underlying meaning was clear – if you don’t say something, I will.
After all, Yukimura didn’t appreciate drama in his tennis club.
You swallowed hard and quickly looked away. How could a middle school boy be so damn terrifying? You had no clue, but you didn’t intend to get on his bad side.
Marui appeared a few moments later, dressed in his uniform with his tennis bag slung over his shoulder. “Ready?”
You glanced at Yukimura again, catching the twitch of his lips, before standing up. “Y-Yeah. Let’s go.”
The two of you walked in silence to the gate. Marui was staring at you, looking away only for a second long enough to make sure he wasn’t going to face plant a pole before looking back. You were very much aware of his stare and it was making you more nervous than before.
Suddenly you stopped, making him do the same. You took a deep breath and closed your eyes, calling upon all of the courage you had within your body. “We need to talk, Bunta-kun.”
His body went rigid and he nearly swallowed his gun. He was sure that was the line said before the girl breaks up with the guy. At least, that’s how it always happened in all those romance movies that Yagyuu watches. “A-About what?”
“Us. About us.” Your nervousness began to change, swirling and mixing to form frustration. “Why won’t you kiss me, Bunta?”
His cheeks dusted as he stared at you with wide violet eyes. “W-What are you talking about, bubblegum?”
“We’ve been together for half a year, now, and you haven’t kissed me a single time!” You cried in frustration, running your hand through your hair. “I even try kissing you and you always pull away and make some excuse to leave the room. If you don’t want to kiss me, just say so! If you want to break up… just tell me the truth!”
“What, no!” He quickly snapped out of his frozen state when the words ‘break up’ reached his ears. He grabbed you by the shoulders, staring into your eyes with an intensity you’ve never seen from him before. “I never want to break up with you. I love you!”
“Then why?” You muttered, feeling your eyes sting. No, you refused to cry.
Marui remained silent, thinking carefully about his words. He squeezed your shoulders tightly before tugging your body to his, his arms wrapping around your upper and lower back to secure you to his frame. You didn’t fight back, simply resting your face in the crook of his neck.
“Listen to me, bubblegum. I’m so sorry, I didn’t realize it was such a big deal to you. I didn’t realize that I was hurting you.” He bit his lip before continuing. “I haven’t kissed you because… I figured you wouldn’t want me to.”
“Why would you think that?” You muttered, hands grasping the white shirt he wore.
He sighed heavily, pushing you back just far enough that he could rest his forehead against your own. He noticed how glassy your eyes had become and it made him feel even worse than he already did. “I know how much you hate sweets. You can barely drink sweet tea! I know that if I kiss you, you’ll only be able to taste the sweets that I eat all day. I thought… I thought that would disgust you.”
“You’re the biggest idiot in the world, Marui Bunta.”
He scowled at the insult but felt his heart lighten when he saw your smile – this time it was genuine, not forced. “You really thought I was going to break up with you, idiot.”
“We’re both idiots.” You concluded.
“We’re perfect for each other. A perfect idiot couple~” He agreed with a grin. Before you could respond, his hand gently grabbed the back of your neck and pulled your lips to his own. It was everything you had imagined and more. His lips were plump and soft and seemed to meld against yours like two pieces of a puzzle. He tasted sweet, of course, but it wasn’t overpowering like the sweets he usually consumed. Above all else, you could feel the love he felt for you through his lips, how sorry he felt for taking so long to do this.
Marui pulled away with a smile, connecting your foreheads once more. “I promise to kiss you every day, so don’t be sad anymore, bubblegum.”
And he kept that promise tenfold. From that day forward, he greeted you with a kiss when he came to pick you up; he kissed you farewell when you went your separate ways to class; he kissed you before practice – for luck, he’d say; he kissed you after practice ended before going to change; and, finally, he kissed you one last time before he dropped you off at your house.
You honestly couldn’t be happier.

⁂ Confessions (Masaharu Niou)
Niou X Reader req: Niou says in one of the databooks he’d make the other one confess their feelings no matter what. “The other one” knows, but is enjoying his increasingly unsubtle attempts to coax them into confessing.
@its-been-quite-a-while
Tumblr media
Genre: Fluff, Slice of Life, Friendship, School ☁
Word Count: 4,433 ☁
Pairing: Reader x Niou ☁
World: Prince of Tennis ☁
Author’s Note: Is this trash? Or is this not trash? I don’t know, but I blame the mosquitos outside because I haven’t been able to sit outside and write because of them lol I started this and just let it go where it wanted. Either way, I hope you enjoy and thanks for requesting ^-^/
━━━━━━༻🌧️༺━━━━━━
You sat in homeroom during lunch, going over the history report due by Friday. Niou sat a few desks back in the row to your left, mindlessly fiddling with his pencil as he stared at your back. A couple other students lingered in the room, paying the two of you no mind. Ryusuke, an old friend and your seatmate, entered the room with two bread rolls and two cans of Ponta.
As he slid into the desk on your right, he handed you one of each. “He’s staring at you again.”
You smiled, popping the top of the can. “I know~”
“Doesn’t it bother you?” he wondered, glancing back at the silverette who simply sent him a smirk.
“Not really,” you responded, taking a sip of the beverage. Noticing his unsure look, you added, “Don’t worry, I can handle it.”
“If you’re sure,” he shifted in his seat, carefully removing the plastic from the roll as he changed the topic to something more light-hearted.
Although Niou had told no one, not even Yagyuu, of his plan, to you it was quite obvious. You had always been the type of person that could read people well, and with him being such a close friend, you were able to read him like a book and, to be honest, you found the boy to be quite endearing. He had grown to love you over the years and wanted you to be his. Likewise, your feelings for him were just as solid, but you refused to confess because you knew that is what he wanted – he was determined to make you confess first, but you were enjoying his attempts at coaxing you into doing so far too much.
Niou, meanwhile, was starting to grow a bit annoyed at the situation. It had been almost four years now and he knew you shared his feelings, so why wouldn’t you just confess? He didn’t understand and he certainly didn’t like it. It made him feel more determined.
With a smirk, he stood up and approached you, his hand finding the small of your back as he leaned on the side of your desk, his thumb gently stroking your shirt.
You raised a brow when he didn’t speak. “Need something, Niou-san?”
He didn’t mention it, but you knew the use of his last name with the honorific really bothered him. “Got any plans this weekend?”
“Hmm, are you asking me out?”
“Nope,” he responded, popping the p with a grin. “I’m spending my weekend with Aiko.”
Your lips twitched at his lame attempt to make you jealous, but you kept a soft smile in play. “I didn’t know the two of you were dating. Congratulations!”
His own lips twitched, but he maintained his grin. “It’s not serious, you know. If someone else asked me out this weekend, I’d drop her. Puri~”
“That’s not very nice, Niou-san,” you chided with a frown. “Think of poor Aiko-chan’s feelings!”
His teal orbs flashed with something you couldn’t quite catch and you noticed they were a darker shade than usual. “You didn’t answer me, Y/N.”
Before you could, Ryusuke leaned forward to peer around you and interjected, “Y/N is going camping with me this weekend.”
‘Nice one!’, you mentally cheered. As far as you were aware, he didn’t know anything about the silent battle between yourself and Niou, yet he still managed to help you score some points.
“Where?” he inquired.
“Shindo,”
Niou visibly frowned at the answer, his eyes flickering back to you. “Have fun.” And with that, he left the room without looking back.
You hadn’t expected that reaction and it worried you. ‘Did I take it too far?’
Ryusuke rubbed the back of his neck, sheepishly. “Sorry about that, Y/N, it just kinda came out. Don’t worry, we don’t have to actually go!”
“No way, it sounds fun!” You chirped, shaking your head to try and erase Niou’s expression from your mind. ‘Some time away from that trickster will do me good!’
━━━━━━༻🌧️༺━━━━━━
Two days had passed by uneventfully and that really concerned you. In the time that you had known Niou, he never failed to have some form of communication with you each day, be it through text, calls, in person, or even via notes, but since that day in the classroom, he had been silent. You had to fight the urge several times to keep from approaching or texting him. On the bright side, it’s Friday and the camping trip started that night.
Now that, you were excited about.
The final bell rang, signaling the end of the day. You packed up your books, chatting with Ryusuke about the trip when you felt a hand slide into your pocket. Alarmed, you whipped your head around to find Niou passing by, sending you a look. Your hand slid into the pocket, feeling a small piece of folded paper.
Ryusuke glanced at the male before returning his gaze to you. “Everything okay?”
“Yup!” you responded. “I have to talk to Mizuki-sensei about my history grade and then I’ll head home to get my bags. Meet you at the bus stop?”
“Of course! See you soon, bye bye~!” He waved at you with a grin before turning and leaving the classroom.
You waited a moment to make sure he was gone before pulling the paper from your pocket, smoothing it out on the desk. The note was simple; ‘Meet me at the gate, we need to talk’. Your immediate thought was, ‘What about practice?’ but you shook your head and stuffed the note back into your pocket before leaving the room. Your mind was running wild with possible scenarios that could potentially play out when you reached the gate. The one you wanted most, though, was the least likely.
Niou was leaning against the school gate, the breeze ruffling his silver locks. His eyes met yours as you approached, expression deadly serious. As you got closer, he pushed away from the wall and started to walk away, moving slowly so you could catch up. For several moments, the two of you walked side by side in silence and, just as you were about to break it, he finally spoke up.
“You shouldn’t go camping,”
“And why not?” you challenged.
He stopped dead, staring at you with slightly wide eyes. “The campground killer,”
“The what?” Just what was he trying to pull here?
“I did some research,” he explained. “Two years ago, a man went on a killing spree across Kanagawa, targeting campers and hikers in pairs. They never caught him.”
“Do you really expect me to believe that?” you rolled your eyes and made a move to continue on your way, but he grabbed your wrist.
“If you don’t believe me, ask Marui. He did a whole report on the guy at the beginning of the year.” He paused for a moment before releasing your wrist and shrugging, hands stuffed in his pockets as he walked away.
You frowned at his back before shaking your head with a huff. ‘There’s no way that’s a real thing, he’s just trying to mess with me!’ With some effort, you brushed it from your mind and continued home, forcing yourself to focus on the fun you’d be having that weekend.
━━━━━━༻🌧️༺━━━━━━
Niou entered the bakery, a waft of sugar-filled air hitting him in the face. His eyes scanned the room, finding his two friends sitting near the back of the store.
Marui huffed when the trickster reached the table. “It’s about time!”
“Puri~” he smirked, falling into the seat beside Jackal. “Has Y/N texted you yet?”
“No. You’re still gonna buy me some cake even if they don’t, right?”
“No,”
“Rude!”
Jackal sighed, resting his cheek in the palm of his hand. “This isn’t right, trying to scare Y/N like this. Can’t you just admit you like them and move on?”
“Never,” Niou responded. “I’ll make them confess their love for me no matter what it takes.”
“So complicated,” he sighed again.
“Puri~”
Marui’s phone vibrated on the tabletop, causing the drink glasses to shake. He picked it up, glancing at the screen. “It’s a message from Y/N! Cake, here I come~”
“What did they say?” Niou asked, leaning forward on the table.
Marui read the message aloud, “‘Hey Bunta-kun. Did you write a report about a serial killer this year?’”
The silverette scowled at the use of Marui’s first name and familiar honorific. He was still salty that you had returned to using his last name. “Tell them yes,”
“I know,” Marui pouted at him before typing his reply. It didn’t take long for you to respond. “‘Will you tell me about him? What was his deal?’” Before he could respond, another message came through. “‘Asking for a friend,’” He chuckled before responding by parroting what Niou had told you just twenty minutes earlier, changing a few words at Jackal’s suggestion so it didn’t seem more suspicious than it already did.
As payment for his service, Niou treated the sugar addict to the cake of his choice.
━━━━━━༻🌧️༺━━━━━━
You frowned at your phone as you sat at the bus stop, waiting for Ryusuke to arrive. At first, you had no intention of letting Niou get into your head, but as you sat on the bench waiting, you couldn’t help but think about his words. You figured it wouldn’t hurt to at least ask Marui for his side of the story but, to your surprise, he gave you basically the same information that Niou had.
Now, you were concerned.
The phone buzzed as Marui texted you again with a simple message. ‘Are you still going camping?’
You were about to respond when something clicked in your mind. You hadn’t mentioned going camping, you simply asked if he had written about a serial killer, so how did he know that information? Sure, it was possible Niou had mentioned it, but that seemed unlikely. Your eyes narrowed as conspiracy theories swirled in your brain.
‘That damn Niou… he’s playing me! Fine, if that’s how he wants to do things. Player two has just entered the game!’ Your fingers quickly typed out the message, ‘Of course! What’s life without a little thrill?’
“Y/N!” Ryusuke came jogging up, bag slung over one shoulder and a tent bag in his hand. “Sorry, my sister kept insisting that I make sure I had everything.”
You chuckled, “No worries. Here comes the bus.”
The two of you stepped back as the bus crept up to the curb, the door squeaking as it slid open. You paid the fee and headed for the back, passing a thin man huddled up against the window, his face covered with a torn, brown hat. The sky was dark, the bus lit up by dull yellow lights above each window. There was only one other passenger on the bus, a little old lady sitting at the front and carrying on a conversation with herself.
As you fell into the seat, setting your bag beside you, your phone buzzed again with several messages from the fuschia-haired boy – ‘What?’ ‘Did you not read what I just wrote?’ ‘He was never captured!’ ‘It’s too dangerous,’ ‘Y/N, why aren’t you answering?’ ‘Oi~!’
Ryusuke glanced at you. “Better respond quick, the reception at the campsite is horrible. The last time I visited with my dad, our phones were useless until we got close to the city again.”
“Makes sense,” you murmured, relaying that information back to Marui before telling him not to worry. Satisfied, you put your phone on silent and slid it into your pocket before turning to Ryusuke. “So, what’s on the agenda?”
“Well, once we reach the trail, the campsite we’ll be staying at is a twenty-minute hike from the trail, but don’t worry, I know the woods like the back of my hand!” he grinned, explaining that he had been camping there with his family since he was a small child. “Once we reach the site, we need to set up the tent and start a fire. I brought some board games and some horror books, plus I borrowed my sister’s camera and brought some binoculars. The Brown-Eared Bulbul is pretty common at this site and they’re so adorable, I bet you’ll love them.”
You smiled as he started to go on about random bird facts, mostly about the Bulbul, but then branching out into other species you might come across over the weekend. Seeing how passionate he was about birds made you think of Niou and how passionate he was about tennis and then you cursed yourself for thinking about him again. You turned your gaze to the window, watching as the city slowly disappeared, giving way to a grouping of trees that seemed to stretch on for miles and miles.
If you were to be honest with yourself, you’d much rather be spending the weekend with Niou, no offense intended toward Ryusuke. He was a good friend and you enjoyed his company, but your feelings for Niou were far more intense and, lately, the two of you just hadn’t been spending much time together. ‘Maybe I should just let it go and tell him how I feel… he’s so stubborn, there’s no way he’ll ever give in.’
Your eyes slid closed as Ryusuke continued to rattle, his voice growing muffled as the movement of the bus lulled you to sleep.
━━━━━━༻🌧️༺━━━━━━
“Niou!” Marui burst into the silverette’s room without knocking, the door bouncing off the wall before hitting him in the face.
Awoken by the noise, Niou rubbed at his eyes as he slowly sat up. “What?”
Rubbing his red nose, Marui rushed farther into the room with a panicked expression. “It was true!”
Niou blinked, tiredly, glancing at the clock. Six in the morning on a Saturday was far too early to be dealing with this. “What?”
“The serial killer,” Marui stressed, shoving his phone in the male’s face. “I mentioned the fake story to my dad and he said there was a similar incident last year. I looked it up and it’s true!”
Niou took the phone from him, rubbing at his eyes to clear up his vision. On the phone was an article from around the same date last year, detailing the events of a madman in the woods. The location was the same area that you and Ryusuke had gone camping and the madman in question had killed an entire family, robbed them, and left them to rot in the woods. There were no leads on who he was or what fueled the attack. His heart skipped painfully in his chest.
The story was real.
Dropping the phone, he grabbed his own off the bedside table, quickly navigating to your name before pressing the call button. It went straight to voicemail.
Marui frowned, “I’ve been texting and calling Y/N all morning. I even got Ryusuke-san’s number from one of his friends, but his phone is going straight to voicemail, too! What if the madman got them?!”
Niou pinched the bridge of his nose, willing his heart to calm down. All he could think about was the possibility of you being hurt in the woods with no one around to help you. He threw the covers off and started to pull clothes from his closet. “I’m going to Shindo!”
“What? But there’s a killer out there!”
“Yeah, with my Y/N.”
━━━━━━༻🌧️༺━━━━━━
Sun shone through the door of the tent which had been left half-zipped, birds chirping in the distance. You yawned, stretching your body out as best you could in the small space before crawling from the tent, squinting against the bright light of the sun. A thin mist covered the land before you, making it hard to see more than a few yards before you.
“Ryusuke?” you called out, straining your ears for any sound of him, but your only response was a curious chirp somewhere above you. You felt a pinch on your forehead and didn’t hesitate to slam your hand against your skin, wincing in pain. When you pulled your hand back, you found a mosquito squished against your palm and you made a face, quickly rubbing it on the shorts you wore.
Camping was pretty peaceful and relaxing, but the bugs you could live without, especially the mosquitos. You scowled, ‘Stupid things, do they ever sleep?’ “Oi, Ryusuke! Where are you?”
A few birds took flight from a nearby tree at your raised voice, but there was no sign of your friend. Where had he gone? With a shrug, you approached the tree across from the tint, carefully reaching up to untie the cooler from the branch – Ryusuke had sworn that it was best to put your things up in trees to keep them away from predators. Whether that was legit advice or not, you weren’t sure, but you were happy that the food had been untouched. You had been worried that, even in the tree, ants or flies would find their way inside, but the seal had not been breached by even the smallest of insect.
You set the cooler down by the firepit before plopping onto the ground, wincing when a stick dug into your ankle. Leaning your body to the side, you swept your hand under your leg to clear the debris before sitting upright again and turning to the fire. So far, Ryusuke had been the one to start the fire each time, but you had watched him close enough and, since he was currently missing in action, you needed to step up. Either that, or you’d just have to skip breakfast, something you were not prepared to do.
‘Okay, Y/N, you got this!’ You tried to recall what Ryusuke did. ‘First, I have to find that long piece of wood he used. I think he called it… a fireboard?’ Your eyes scanned the area around the firepit, looking for the board in question, but you didn’t see it. You carefully moved the leaves around with your hand, thinking it might have been buried by them, but it still wasn’t there. Had he taken it with him? But why would he do such a thing?
You frowned, pulling yourself to your feet and brushing the dirt from your hands. ‘Maybe I should try looking for him instead,’ you returned to the tent to grab your phone, checking for signal but, just as it had been since you left the city, there was none. Next, you grabbed a compass, a bottle of water, and picked the thickest branch you could find to use as a walking stick before slowly leaving the campground.
The sun was higher in the sky now, breaking through the leaves and beaming down on you like a spotlight. The fog had cleared, birds chirping loudly in every direction and, worst of all, mosquitos buzzing around everywhere you looked.
‘If I remember correctly, the river is… this way!’ You turned northeast and started to walk, leaves crunching under your boots as you went. You had only made it the length of four blocks when you noticed the sound of rustling in the bushes in front of you, making you pause for a moment before slowly creeping forward, thinking it could be a small, furry animal. The bushes parted quickly and you yelped in surprise, backpedaling too fast to keep your body upright.
What stepped out was quite furry, but it certainly wasn’t a small animal.
The thin man from the bus stared down at you with blank eyes, scratching at his thick beard. His fingers were dirty as if he had been digging with his hands, the nails bitten down to the quick. His clothes hung off him, clearly a couple sizes too big for his lithe frame, the fabric marred with large holes and tears.
You suddenly remembered the story Niou and Marui had told you and fear gripped your heart, but you quickly shook your head. ‘No, that’s ridiculous! He made that story up to scare me, that’s all.’ With an awkward smile, you pulled yourself to your feet. “You scared me! I thought you were a rabbit,”
“No,” he grunted blankly, his voice hoarse.
You cleared your throat. “Right… well… excuse me,” You tried to step past him but he grabbed your arm with a weak grip, bony fingers digging into your skin. “Do you… need help or something?” His eyes moved to the bottle of water peeking out from your pocket and his lips parted, but no words escaped. Cautiously, you pulled the bottle from your pocket and held it out to him.
The man’s gaze flicked to meet your eyes before returning to the bottle, his hand releasing your arm so he could take it from you. He fumbled with the cap for a moment before he was able to get it off, bringing the bottle to his lips. He nearly downed it in one go. He took a deep breath after pulling the bottle from his lips, “Thank you.”
You smiled warmly at him. “You’re welcome. Are you camping here?”
He shook his head, a leaf falling from his tangled hair. “No, I live here.”
“Oh,” Before you could say anything else, your name rang out in the air, startling a few birds nearby into taking flight. The voice sounded far away and familiar, and you assumed it was your camping buddy. “Over here, Ryusuke!”
“Y/N!” The voice was closer now, coming from behind you. You squinted against the sun as a figure appeared from the treeline.
You waved, standing on your toes to make yourself taller while glancing at the man. “Have you eaten? Once Ryusuke gets the fire going, I’m sure -”
“Y/N!” A rush of silver covered your vision. “Stay away from them, you murderer!”
“Niou?” you cried in surprise. “What are you doing here?”
He glared at the man, using his body as a shield between the two of you. “I won’t let you hurt them!”
“Niou!” You grabbed his shoulder when he made a move for the man, “He hasn’t done anything wrong,”
“Yet,” he scowled, not letting his teal eyes leave the man. “Are you crazy, Y/N? I tell you about a serial killer on the loose and you go anyway! And then you talk to a strange man in the woods!”
You scoffed, putting your hands on your hips. “I know you made that story up to convince me not to go on the trip.”
“Wait… you knew?” He sent you a surprised look before shaking his head and turning his gaze back to the man. “Okay, fine. I did make it up, but then Marui looked it up and the story is real.”
“It’s… real?” Your eyes widened, snapping to the man. Could it be? Could this homeless man be the lost serial killer from a year ago? The man in question had stopped paying attention, nursing the last of the water in the bottle. You were no expert, but the man didn’t seem like a killer to you. You moved closer to Niou, lowering your voice. “I don’t know, Niou, this guy seems pretty harmless.”
Whether he agreed or not, he didn’t say. His hand slipped into yours and, before you could say anything, he took off running, pulling you along behind him. You glanced over your shoulder, but the man was nowhere in sight, almost as if he had vanished into thin air. Niou didn’t stop running until he reached the campsite where Ryusuke sat in front of the fire, whistling happily as he made breakfast.
Hearing the two of you approach, he looked up with a smile. “Welcome back -” he paused when he saw Niou, his smile dropping. “What are you doing out here?”
“It’s… a long story,” you supplied, glancing at Niou. “Where have you been? You were gone when I woke up.”
“I went fishing!” He grinned, motioning toward the fish that were cooking on sticks above the fire. “The fish around here are most active during the morning,”
“That’s great, I’m starving!” You clapped your hands, sending a look to Niou, a silent plead for him to behave.
His eyes met yours, lips twitching upward. “Puri~”
━━━━━━༻🌧️༺━━━━━━
“I can’t believe you came all this way,” you mused as you walked down the street, Niou at your side, carrying your bag. The two of you had arrived back in the city twenty minutes earlier and had parted ways with Ryusuke, who lived in the opposite direction. The night sky was littered with stars, though they weren’t nearly as bright as they had been in the woods.
Niou sent you a smirk. “I couldn’t let you get murdered before you confess your undying love to me~”
“Really?” you deadpanned, coming to a stop. “And what makes you so damn sure I’m going to confess?”
“A psychic told me.”
“You’re unbelievable,” you sighed, running a hand through your hair.
“Puri~”
“And you’re also right.”
“Puri?”
You chuckled, stepping up to him so you could wrap your arms around his neck. “Masaharu Niou, I love you and want to be your partner, even if you are an infuriating little trickster.”
His grin rivaled that of the Cheshire cat as his hands found your waist, pulling you closer. “It’s about time,” Before you could retort, he silenced you with his lips.
Just as he had predicted, he had won the battle.
You smiled as you pulled back, slipping your hand into his as the two of you continued your trek home. ‘But the war’s only just begun~’
━━━━━━༻BONUS༺━━━━━━
Ryusuke peered around the brick fence, watching as you and Niou walked down the sidewalk hand in hand. He couldn’t help the frown that overtook his lips. “I still feel kinda guilty about all of this,”
A figure seemed to materialize beside him from the shadows, furiously scribbling in a little black leatherbound notebook. “I received some valuable data from this,”
Ryusuke sweatdropped. “Do you feel any guilt at all, Yanagi-san?”
“No,” he responded simply. “Let your uncle know he did an excellent job. I’ll inform my sister that he is worth the leading roll in her play.”
“Thank you so much!” the brunette bowed. “He’ll be super excited about the… oppor… tunity…”
Renji paused his writing, glancing up at the male. “Is something wrong? You’ve gone quite pale.”
“My uncle,” he squeaked in reply before turning tail and running like the devil himself was giving chase. “I left my uncle in the woods!!”
Renji watched the male until he disappeared in the distance before returning to his book and scribbling furiously once more. “Data,”

Author’s Note: Yes I was inspired to write this by watching an episode of Family Matters, don’t @ me bro.
━━━━━━༻🌧️༺━━━━━━
You blinked as you watched your boyfriend shifting uncomfortably on the sofa next to you. His eyes were cast down towards the floor, hands sweaty as he fumbled with his fingers. For the past month, Jirou had been acting strangely. Even more so when you tried to get close to him. He always started to freak out and make some lame excuse to leave. It was really beginning to bug you.
“Jirou?” You cocked your head to the side, turning your body to get a better look at him.
He shifted nervously, his eyes staying cast towards the ground. “Y-Yes, Y/N?”
“What’s with you lately? You’ve been acting really weird. Did I do something to upset you?” You questioned.
Jirou shook his head frantically. “No, you didn’t do anything!”
You scowled, “Then why are you acting like this? Spill!”
He shook his head again.
“Jirou,” you sighed, feeling exasperated. “What the hell? There’s clearly something wrong. You won’t even let me touch you!” To prove your point, you reached forward to rest your hand on his. Instantly he flinched away, standing up and backing away from you. With an annoyed huff, you stood up, walking towards him. Every step you took, he matched it until his back hit the wall. He gulped as you slammed your hands on either side of his head. “I’m worried about you, Jirou.”
He stared into your eyes, which had softened and bore a look of pure worry. He swallowed hard, “I… I want to kiss you.”
“Eh?” You blinked, taken back by his statement. “And that’s a bad thing?”
“Yes,”
“How so?”
“If I kiss you… you’ll become pregnant.” He said it so softly that it took you a minute to realize what he said.
“Where the hell did you hear that from?”
“Family Matters… I was watching it with Marui and Gakuto.”
━━━━━━༻🌧️༺━━━━━━
One Month Earlier
Ding Dong.
Gakuto stood up from his position on the living room floor and headed towards the door. On the other side was his close friend, Jirou, and Jirou’s friend from Rikkai, Marui Bunta.
“Hope you don’t mind.” Jirou grinned, motioning towards Marui as he rubbed the back of his neck. Marui waved as he popped a piece of green bubble gum.
Gakuto just shrugged, stepping aside to let the two boys inside. The three got themselves comfortable in the living room, sitting in front of the large, flat-screen TV.
“What’re we watching?” Bunta asked, popping his gum once more.
“It’s this American show I found called Family Matters,” Gakuto answered. Upon seeing their unsure expressions, he added, “It’s a good show!”
Marui and Jirou exchanged looks before shrugging.
Carl had said no to Steve after he bugged him to go bowling with him. After getting fed up, he bribed his daughter into going by buying her clothes. Laura reluctantly agreed and the pair left the house. Carl ended up falling asleep on the couch, only to wake up 15 years later. Laura was married to Steve and had four children. Laura had made the comment, “It seems like all he has to do is kiss me and I’m pregnant!”
Steve leaned over and kissed Laura. Instantly, her belly grew big as she became pregnant once more.
“I-Is that really how girls get pregnant?” Jirou murmured in innocent confusion, looking between his two friends.
Bunta cocked his head to the side, not believing that Jirou truly didn’t understand how pregnancy worked.
Gakuto sprung up with a mischievous grin. “Of course it is! How else would they become pregnant?”
Jirou blinked, unsure. “I don’t know about that… it seems impossible.”
“Well, it’s not! That’s where babies come from!”
As usual, Jirou was led astray by his red-haired friend.
Marui shook his head in disbelief. He, being the Tensai he was, knew full well how babies were made, but he wasn’t fond of getting into a conversation with them about the birds and the bees. He figured Gakuto would continue to try and trick Jirou, and he didn’t want to argue with the red-head – he was a guest in his home, after all.
━━━━━━༻🌧️༺━━━━━━
Present Day
You facepalmed, hitting your forehead repeatedly against the wall. “I see. I should have guessed that idiot had something to do with it…”
“Is that wrong?” He blinked, cocking his head to the side.
“Jirou, dear sweet, innocent Jirou.” You shook your head, taking his face in between your hands. “I’ve told you a million times. You should never, never, listen to a single thing Gakuto tells you… He’s an idiot!”
“So… it’s not true, then?”
You shook your head again. “No, it’s not even close to true.”
He seemed to think about that for a moment, before grinning and throwing his arms around you tightly.
“Jiro – !”
He smashed his lips to yours. For a month now, he had been fighting the urge to kiss you and he was letting all of that built-up pressure go. It flowed through the kiss, mixing along with the genuine love that you shared.
He smiled, his lips hovering over your own. “I’ve been waiting to do that.”
You returned the smile, placing a chaste kiss upon his lips.

“Y/N~chan~” Marui whined, his head resting on your shoulder as his arms clutched his stomach. “It hurts~”
“That’s what you get for eating ten cakes at once, Marui.” you scolded, ignoring the boy’s moans and groans of agony.
“But, Y/N~” he whined again, bringing his knees up to his chest and wrapping his arms around them, “It really hurts~”
“Maybe next time you’ll listen when I tell you ten cakes is nine too many, baka. Especially within twenty-five minutes.” You responded, finding yourself wondering if he was actually even human. Most people would be much worse off than just a stomach ache.
