family is an egregious thing filled with blood & doubt & all the mistakes you'll ever make. their hands stain with blood & you carry it through your life like the burden your father leaves with you. when your family backs you into a corner, you lie on the ground & wait for it to be over ; what kind of monster lashes out at their mother ??? ( what you did to them was MERCY. what you did for your family was something that will always haunt you & their memory stains your veins like their blood is in you. ) hachiro's back melts into the ground, the biting air of night telling him the atrocities that carries in her hands. he thinks of his mother again, but she leaves as quickly as the wind carries her blades away. stars dew themselves along the veins of the black skies ; he doesn't care to count them the way his friends do.

he doesn't think much of honor, something thought up by people who turn their face away from human nature. but sumiko takes turn of his mind, & his lips press into an undescribed line. she wears it on her arms like a tattoo, wears her honor like the only title she has. her honor holds her head above water, keeps the sting of her chained to him from consuming her ; honor keeps her from devouring him & everything holding them to the ground. so honor might be worth the weight that clings to his back like the way it clings to sumiko's ankles.

FLINCHES ??? hachiro considers that he must be tired if he's drawn to the words of a stranger ; he considers that he's gone much too long without speaking to his friends if he's thinking this hard about the hemorrhaging of the stars.

this is definitely an intersection of my aromanticism and my pedantic nature, but i do enjoy it so much when it's emphasised that it wasn't (usually romantic) love that "fixed" someone or made them "complete", nor was it love that they were missing, but instead comfort, or safety, or a sense of purpose, or simply an opportunity to stop and rest for a while. when far more basic, animal desires take precedence, and are acknowledged to be no less meaningful or worthwhile to pursue. and perhaps love was there, and perhaps it helped to facilitate their fulfilment, but it was never a necessary condition, and its recipients wouldn't have been any less deserving of having their needs met if they weren't loved.
