Okay, so I might have been panicking a bit because I can't find the post I did on River and emotional permanence (I *know* I did it. I just can't remember how I tagged it) but then I went whatever I'll do it later or else I'll never be able to do this ask. So, with my offering of my most decadent, favorite cookies and a drink of your choice (and a heaping of hope I get their characteristics right), have a seat to my madness.

First Doctor: He'd probably be flabbergasted at first. (Cause she doesn't look like the wife that, due to unfortunate circumstance, he got separated from.) (What he doesn't know is that she's the earliest, youngest version of his wife) He'll warm up to her though. Their banter? Absolutely delightful. And like his older versions, he definitely loves booping her nose and her hair awes him. He'll poke her for the fun of it. He just loves how alive she is. He would downright refuse to let her go and nearly would've broken time and space apart until she consoled him.

[The following is rumoured to be an excerpt from their conversation]

The Doctor: "Why are you so young???"

River, hand on her hip, finger in his face: "Hey! For your information, I've passed my first century already!"

The Doctor: "Still too young!"

River: "Well, at least that definitely makes me the younger, hip, definitely cooler one. 😏"

Susan Foreman (because I love her and so she'll be in this): Her initial reaction would be confusion mixed with disbelief. "You’re my grandmother? But… you can’t be!" She’d be skeptical until they connected telepathically, and then everything would fall into place. The recognition would hit her like a wave—memories, emotions, and the unmistakable sense of family tying her to River. "It is you," she’d whisper, her voice full of wonder and a little sadness. Susan would be overwhelmed at first, torn between joy and sorrow at meeting the grandmother she never thought she’d see (again). River would delight in telling Susan stories of her own adventures with the Doctor, while Susan would feel like she’d regained a piece of the family she thought she’d lost forever.

Second Doctor: At first, he’d be absolutely flustered, practically bouncing around the room in disbelief. “My wife? No, no, that can’t be right—there must be some mistake!” He’d tug on his lapels and pull his flute out in a desperate attempt to think. But River’s confident smile would completely disarm him, and he’d quickly shift from disbelief to utter fascination. “Oh, my word… you really are my wife, aren’t you?” His natural curiosity would kick in, and he’d pepper her with questions while trying to keep up with her quick wit. Their dynamic would be playful and chaotic, with River teasing him endlessly and him secretly loving every second of it. He’d adore her cleverness and strength but would still try (and fail) to keep her out of trouble. The banter would be endless, but so would the affection—he’d be smitten in his own bumbling, sweet way.

Third Doctor: He’d definitely be flabbergasted. “My wife? How extraordinary!” His initial reaction would be one of dignified confusion—lots of straightening his jacket and looking down his nose at her—but underneath, he’s utterly charmed. He’d warm up to the idea quickly because, really, River is exactly the kind of clever, capable, and stylish woman he secretly admires. Their banter would be sharp and theatrical, with him trying to outwit her at every turn (and often failing). He’d absolutely adore how she commands a room and would insist on taking her out for a proper drive in Bessie.

Fourth Doctor: He’d be delighted! “Wife? Oh, how wonderful!” He’d grin ear to ear, scarf flapping as he bounced around with giddy excitement. River would find his energy both endearing and exhausting, while he’d be utterly fascinated by her. He’d ask a million questions about their supposed marriage—most of them nonsensical, like, “Do we have a honeymoon planet? Is it made of jelly babies?”—and would happily accept her as his wife without hesitation. He’d love how River keeps him on his toes, and their adventures would be full of laughter and absolute chaos.

Ninth Doctor: I initially wasn't going to include him BUT I remember how people didn't get his response to knowing River is his wife. I remember reading about his intense self-loathing which I think factors into his bafflement. Why would someone like him find someone who'd love the monster that he thinks he is? I think that's why he's so intent on understanding his marriage with River that he read her entire diary. It's not about him not wanting to marry her; it's about why she married him, out of all people. But once he understands, oh. my. silly. heart. He's so gentle and tender with her.

Fugitive Doctor: Her reaction would be sharp and calculating at first. “Wife? Really? How very convenient.” She’d be skeptical, trying to figure out if River’s playing an angle, but the more she sees of her, the more she’d warm to the idea. Their relationship would be fiery, full of quick-witted banter and a mutual respect for each other’s intellect and cunning. River would admire her no-nonsense attitude, and the Fugitive Doctor would be secretly touched by River’s unwavering loyalty. She’d show her affection in subtle ways—small smiles, protective gestures—but it would be clear to anyone paying attention just how much she cares.

omg, y'all, so my friends who took in the pregnant stray have pretty much given me the task of coming to help socialize the kitties over the next couple months . . . and they're so heckin adorable. they're so small, and their fur is downy, and they're so round. yesterday, we just cycled through holding them all and keeping them warm and getting them used to humans. their mama was very relieved to not have seven kittens piled on top of her. she just went to take a nap somewhere while we cuddled them, and it's so fun to see their personalities beginning to form and watch their curiosities take hold. 🥹
