the barbara and bruce dynamic is actually so funny to me like they're co-parenting a teenage girl together, babs is dating bruce's son, she's the daughter of one of the only people bruce actually trusts, they've been coworkers for years, and they just legitimately CANNOT stand each other. they're close with the same people, work together all the time, and yet literally every conversation they have in batgirl (2000) goes exactly like this:

barbara, just got back from a date with dick, picking up cass for her week of custody: hey cass it's nice to see you sweetie :) oh hi bruce.

bruce, returned from a (play)date with commissioner gordon, recently worked with dinah, babs's best friend in the world: barbara.

I'll celebrate how good Batgirl #5 was in a bit, but I'm going to hold space for a second to acknowledge how sad it makes me because I really wanted Cassandra's hallucination to be Babs or Tim. I understand why it's Steph, and it works well in the issue, but given the issue's subject matter and the interweaving of pre-reboot canon I really wanted the acknowledgement that Cass has family and friends not named Bruce or Stephanie

In my headcanon for Gotham press none of the batfam bar Bruce and Steph are ever massively public figures like Jason appears on True Crime youtube in incredibly offensive and insensitive "deep dives" and Tim is That No Man's Land kid but it's really just Bruce willingly and Steph unwillingly who get attention. And Steph doesn't even get like, attention from the press. People will just come up to her and be like "Holy shit aren't you that Robin who died?" and she's like "Which one? There's been three so far." and walks away. Bruce knows she does this and hates it but he'll never confront her on it because that means Acknowledging Things.

BUT I also like to think there's one tabloid writer who's just so lazy that every week they release something on the Waynes because it's easy to do and no one else really cares so there's no competition. They've got the whole niche for anyone who's super invested in what local billionaire Bruce Wayne's daughter ate for lunch. One time they ran a speculative article on who Cass's mother was and Barbara was one of the options. Bruce, Cass and Babs all couldn't look each other in the eyes for a week. Batgirl dropped the writer out a window later that night on patrol. She caught him of course, but it made her feel better.

I mean, the problem is that Adar and his children don't just want to live and let live, do they? Or, at least, they're more than willing to hurt countless innocent people to obtain and hold land that categorically does not belong to them.

Adar and his children brutally genocide the people of the Southlands and steal their land, enslaving those who manage to survive and forcing them to eke out a living in truly grim conditions. It's an exceptionally bad introduction for them to the population of Middle-Earth as a whole in a post-Morgoth world.

Would the Elves have treated with them if they hadn't done that? I don't know - perhaps if Adar had approached Gil-Galad on less dire terms with a more reasonable compromise in mind, but we'll never know. The Uruk chose violence first. Oh one could certainly argue that the Elves always would have been prejudiced against them regardless and perhaps that is true, but consider:

Are they ever given a reason not to be? Uruk have never displayed anything other than ravening bloodthirst towards Elves and Men. It could be argued that this is a vicious cycle perpetuated by the creation of the Uruk by Morgoth and his use of them as war fodder and slaves thereafter, but if Adar truly wanted peaceful co-existence with the other races of Middle-Earth after the War of Wrath then I'm sorry but it was on him to reach out peacefully after the war ended.

He chose otherwise.

There is no reason that the Elves would or should ever trust Adar and his Uruk to live and let live in the Southlands, given what they did to the people who lived there, allowing an obvious threat to grow unmitigated. I mean, look at what they're already doing to Ost-in-Edhil in Eregion.

The continued perception of the Uruk as base and foul is as much Adar's fault as it is Morgoth's.

Yes hi hello absolutely.

So basic premise is, the batkids are all first responders while still being vigilantes. It's starts cuz Jason's like "wtf do I do as a civilian" and decides "fuck it. fire rescue". He's got the build for it, cuz got the cpr certification for it. Now he just has to go through fire boot camp.

He gets upset when he's not allowed to participate in the firefighter calender cuz of his extensive scarring. This prompts Steph to sign up to be a paramedic cuz SHE can be in the calander and rub it in Jason's face. Cass joins cuz Steph joined and honestly? Sounds kinda fun.

Tim decides to join dispatch cuz it's easier to access the mainframe or whatever for bat reasons if he has direct access to the building. Which Barbara has already done. But he wants to as well.

And Dick is a cop
