Hello, sorry for disturbing you, I just wanted to request some fluff with Ananas x Pitaya, if this is possible. Really love them, but can’t find any sweet soft things(. Thank you very much in advance even if you won’t fulfill this request.
Hello, you haven’t disturbed me at all!
Thank you for the request as well, this ship is one that’s had me in like a gentle chokehold for the longest time. They really do need some fluffies.
AKA bitches in love.
Ananas Dragon x Pitaya Dragon
Just fluffs!
Romantic
ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ These two are just the definition of an old married couple. They’re both literally hundreds to thousands of years old, and they have that love-hate sort of relationship except it’s more ‘I hate you/pos’ and ‘I will kill you three times over/affectionate.’
ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ A lot of banter. A lot. With Pitaya being- well- Pitaya, and Ananas not taking any of the shit the red dragon throws their way, the two often get into squabbles about the smallest of things. They have physically fought more than once, though they rarely ever hurt each other due to them both being dragons and, you know, having tough scales/armor.
ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ These two also do spar quite a lot as practice, so they aren’t even arguing half the time when they’re fighting. Pitaya and Ananas enjoy sparring against one another- fighting a dragon that could quite easily match you in strength is more exiting than a cookie, and very good practice for when Pitaya gets into their next fight.
ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ Despite how the two squabble and fight, they do love each other. They don’t show it much in public, but they have little sort moments in private. They’ll cuddle up together on a cold night or Pitaya will help Ananas survey their island.
ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ Ananas helps Pitaya manage their savings. Pitaya still has an instinct to hoard gold, being a dragon, but they aren’t nearly as good at managing it as Ananas is nor is their tendency of gold-hoarding as strong as the golden dragon’s is. Ananas has basically become Pitaya’s bank account manager.
ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ They have been divorced and remarried several times. For them its literally just a meme at this point. They’ll divorce each other at the smallest of things and then come back a month later like ‘hey let’s get married again’ and the other will just be like ‘ok.’ They once got divorced because Ananas refused to help Pitaya open a pickle jar. Plot twist, Pitaya was twisting the wrong way.
ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ They’ll do each other’s hair every once in a while. Pitaya always has a small streak of yellow hidden deep within his fluff from whenever Ananas decided to dye it. Pitaya keeps up with it pretty nicely, making sure it doesn’t fade or anything. Ananas was surprised to see the yellow streak under his hair intact after a few years.
ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ When Pitaya visited Ananas one night and Ananas noticed them missing the end of their tail they were like wtf??? Where’s your tail?. Cue Pitaya explaining what happened and Ananas just sighing in that way that you know you’re being called an idiot non verbally.
ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ Whenever Pitaya wants to get Ananas’ attention but they’re busy or tired they just go into their dragon form and start romping around their islands. Every time Ananas appears and just gives that same sigh as above again. Pitaya helps their mate repair any damage they did, but afterwards they will not leave Ananas alone in their pursuit of affection for at least a week.
ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ They don’t do a lot of PDA (mainly because they’re annoyed at each other 80% of the time), but they’ll always hold hands whenever they’re together. Just these two big, menacing dragons with their palms and claws hooked together. Ananas says it’s just so Pitaya won’t run off while they aren’t looking, but they do love holding their mate’s hand.
ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ They’re both literally immortal or close to it, so they have all of eternity to spend together. Sometimes they’ll go their separate ways for a few years, but they always gravitate back to one another.

for the made-up fic title thing, how about "when we were ours"
AH, WHAT THE PERFECT TITLE FOR AN ALMOST-DIVORCE FIC!
Jack and Davey meet in college. they fall hard for each other; by the time they're 25, Davey pops the question, and by the time they're 26, Davey and Jack are married.
about two years after they get married, they adopt a newborn baby girl- she's precious, she's perfect, she's everything Jack and Davey have ever wanted.
but things start to take a turn for the worst around time she turns ten.
at this point, they're both around 37-38, and they've been together for a long time now- nearing 12 years of marriage, with close to 16 years of actually being together. the things they used to adore about each other are now things that they cant really stand. Jack is too impulsive and spontaneous, Davey is too uptight and boring, Jack has a shit memory, Davey plans everything too in depth- its just a lot of little things that really put everything into perspective.
it causes a lot of arguments. it puts a lot of stress on their daughter.
but this is Jack and Davey; they're not willing to give up.
so, after a long, hard talk one night, they realize that they're both just steps away from divorce, and it terrifies them. they love each other, they really do- but they aren't in sync anymore, and both of them realize at the same time that they want to fix it, or at least try to fix it.
couples therapy. mandatory family nights (and mandatory nights where their daughter stays the night with her grandparents). fun trips, serious talks, open communication ("jack, i don't know if i can listen to you complain about work right now. i'm not in the right headspace." "i really need to vent, but i understand. i'll call up Racer after dinner.")- it sucks, and it's hard, but it... works?
they aren't perfect by any means. they have their bad days, but those bad days become less and less frequent, and watching their daughter grow up and become a strong young woman is what makes it all worth it.
and when they go to bed at night, they aren't stiff and awkward next to each other anymore; they hold each other and kiss and cuddle and slowly, ever so slowly, they fall back in love with each other for real.
thank you for this !! i loved this ahhh
#HELLO i love complicated relationships where everything works out in the end#newsies#jack kelly#davey jacobs#david jacobs#javid#javey#ask a jac !

lol this entire drama is just a crusade against patriarchal polygamy. I mean that was clear from the beginning but eps 37-42 really cements that by having BOTH Lingyi and Lingkuan pissing off their mother by swearing never to take in another concubine. I know it’s supposed to be a moving scene but it also is so funny to me, because this is like the cdrama equivalent of dropping an anvil on the head of polygamy.
Even as it has these two men just flatly refusing in perpetuating this system at least in their own lives, I like the fact that it also doesn’t entirely let Lingyi off the hook for having had concubines. While these episodes are about getting rid of Wen Yiniang and Qin Yiniang, it also brings home many points about how his neglect of his concubines, including the deceased Tong Yiniang, have consequences. Tong Yiniang killed herself because she was forced by Yuanniang into being a concubine and she’s a plot device, but ultimately Qiao Lianfang, Wen Yiniang and Qin Yiniang all did things that could ruin the entire Xu family, all because they resented Lingyi’s neglect and/or their position. Sure, Lingyi managed to circumvent coming to actual harm by the virtue of being a male lead in a drama, but in the final confrontation with both Wen Yiniang and Qin Yiniang, he can’t bring himself to say anything to them in self-defence at their accusations of neglect. Even his “I guess you forced my hand so I’ll take my wife’s maid as a concubine” indifferent attitude with Tong Yiniang has far reaching consequences long after her death.
Though to be fair, half of this could have been prevented if Lingyi’s mother just stopped meddling in his life.
But also if you need proof just how much of a character Luo Dataitai is, she and Yuanniang already forced Biyu to be Lingyi’s concubine to consolidate Yuanniang’s power, and later has the exact same plan for her sister Hupo to consolidate Shiyi’s. It’s like, it didn’t work the first time and you think it’ll work the second time?
Meanwhile, Lingyi and Shiyi continue to take 夫妻同心 to the next level, in that I no longer believe in any public fight they have. This is literally the third fake divorce they’ve orchestrated. At this point I’m convinced this switch and bait of the audience is the only way the drama can create something that resembles conflict between these two people. Note to Xu Lingyi’s enemies, right now the actual way to cause him harm is not to come up with stupidly elaborate plans to push random women on him, but just find a way to steal one of those fake divorce letters and make a public announcement of it or something.
There’s three? four? more episodes left and we still have a whole execution plot to get through…I’m not sure how they’ll do that in that small space. -h

“Are we out of milk?”
“We couldn’t possibly be out of milk.”
“I am looking in the fridge, and I don’t see any.”
“Darling, we went grocery shopping – ” Killian sighs and places his hands on his hips as he taps his foot. “Shit, when was the last time we bought food?”
Emma closes the refrigerator door and turns around before pulling her phone out of the waistband of her leggings, thumbing through the screen with her brows pinched together. “It says our last delivery order was April 13th. That was literally a month ago.”
“I mean, technically it was almost a month ago. Tomorrow it would be a month ago.”
“I would really love if you weren’t an ass right now because I’m hungry, and I really wanted a bowl of cereal.”
Killian shakes his head and steps up to Emma, moving into her space and placing his hands on her hips while his head dips down to her neck so he can kiss the skin there. There’s still the slightest hint of the scent of her perfume from last night, and it will never not be intoxicating. Emma will never not be intoxicating.
“It will take us five minutes to get milk, three if we run across the street instead of walking like civilized human beings.”
Emma hums and cranes her neck to give him more access to her while her hands wrap around his waist, nails scratching at his back. “And buy groceries in person like we’re living a decade ago? That seems like far too much effort.”
He nips at her skin in a place he knows she likes. “I’ll make you brownies if we go.”
“You really know the way to a girl’s heart.”
“I know the way to yours.”
“Ooh, that was cheesy.”
“We can buy cheese too.”
Emma scoffs and hits his back before moving her head so she can lightly brush her lips against his, quick and fleeting until it isn’t. Life is always nonstop, but once the season starts, it’s an entirely different ballgame. Literally. Either one or both of them are always on the road, and while their work generally happens at the same time, Killian has training and practice and PT while Emma has meetings that usually happen at the rare times when Killian is home. Then there’s the press Ariel has Killian doing lately, and it’s leaving very little time to stand in the kitchen and curl his tongue around Emma’s while her fingers tug on his hair.
Glorious. God, he always loves when she does that. Her hands are like magic.
“You’re very good at this.”
“Kissing you? I would hope so. Otherwise I don’t know why you would have stayed with me for this long.”
Emma’s smile presses into his. “Two years isn’t that long in the grand scheme of things.”
“Aye, but the marriage license we filled out last week says you’re planning on far more than two years.”
Her lips run across his jaw, and a shiver works down Killian’s spine and settles at the bottom as his jeans tighten. “Divorces work. I could divorce you the day after we got married if I wanted.”
“Would you?”
“I could. It would keep the marriage fresh and spicy.”
“I would really appreciate it if you never described our relationship using those two words ever again.”
“Why? That’s what all the old women tell me when they give me unsolicited relationship advice.”
“People not being able to shut their mouths is the exact reason why I didn’t want to announce the engagement.”
“We didn’t, ah – ” Emma’s body shivers at his touch and he smirks into her skin before his hands move down to her leggings, fumbling the slightest bit until he feels flesh. “We didn’t announce it. I started wearing a ring, and the tabloids put it together.”
“Fucking tabloids are the scum of the earth.”
Killian’s hand moves again as he gently nudges Emma back to the countertops, his lips and his teeth only ever moving away from her enough to speak. Her skin is so damn warm and softer than anything he’s ever felt, and he loves getting lost in her. It’s a high greater than any win.
“This doesn’t seem like we’re getting milk,” Emma sighs as he helps boost her up onto the countertop, “and you’re going to kill your knees.”
He arches a brow even though she can’t see it. “What makes you think I’m about to get down on my knees?”
“Because I know you, and I know what we’re heading toward.”
“Awfully presumptuous of you, Swan.”
“Ah, well, if that wasn’t what you were intending, I’d highly suggest it.”
Killian huffs and moves away from Emma’s neck until he’s kissing Emma, pressing his mouth against hers and drinking her in. He’s the luckiest bastard in the world, and for all of the good in his life, there is nothing better than Emma. She changed so much for him, continues to still do so, and he’d be happy to spend every day of his life with her just like this.
Just he and Emma.
Just them.
He pulls back from the kiss, sucking in a breath of air, before resting his forehead against hers. Her hands are still in his hair, his hands are on the outside of her thighs, and he can’t seem to focus on anything but the way her nose presses into his cheek exactly like it’s always belonged there, like it’s always fit there.
Like she’s always fit.
“Marry me.”
“What?”
“Marry me, Emma.” He smiles into her lips and then pulls back enough so he can see her eyes. They’ve always been a ridiculously gorgeous shade of green, but right now, they’ve somehow got a hint of blue. “Right now, today.”
Her hand runs through his hair until fingers are pressing against his cheek. “We have a venue booked for forty days from now, have spent far too long picking out cake because you’re a dessert snob, and I have a ridiculously expensive white dress in the closet. And you want to get married today?”
“I want to marry you every day.”
“You’re on it today with the romantic declarations.”
“Are you saying there’s a day where I’m not?”
“Oh, most definitely.”
Killian laughs before kissing Emma again. He can’t seem to stop that. “Well, while I’m having a good day for romantic declarations, why don’t we grab our marriage license, head down to the clerk’s office, and get married? Just you and me, Swan? It’ll be great. We can still have the big party with our family, you can still look gorgeous in that dress, but this would be – ”
“Just us,” Emma finishes for him. She pulls back and stares down at him, brows furrowed. “Are you serious? You want to get married today, twenty-nine? For real?”
“If you’d like. If not, we can wait. We have all of these other plans, and I don’t – ”
Emma smacks her lips against his and cups both of his cheeks. “Let’s get married today. Can you give me fifteen minutes to put some dry shampoo in my hair and change into clothes without stains?”
“What? You don’t want to get married looking like you do?”
Emma winks. “What can I say? I’m a woman of standards.”
Killian chuckles and moves away from Emma until she’s hopping down from the countertop and tugging her shirt down and her leggings up. Her cheeks are absolutely flushed, and she’s got the beginning of beard burn on her chin. “Oh, and twenty-nine?”
“Yeah?”
“I fully expect you to finish what you started here when we get back.”“I was planning on it.”
It takes more than fifteen minutes for them to leave the apartment. Emma decides to fix her hair and put on a little makeup while he takes a shower and trims his scruff, but a little under an hour later, their hands are intertwined as they ride down the elevator to the lobby so they can get a cab to the courthouse. He’d drive, but honestly, parking is awful, and his nerves might be a little too much for that right now.
He plays in front of thousands of people all the time, but he’s got nerves over marrying the woman he’s known he was going to marry since almost the beginning of their time together.
This is decidedly different than playing baseball.
This is not his job. This is his life, their life, and as beautiful as he’s sure Emma will look in her wedding dress that she and Elsa found, she looks just as beautiful now in a long pink floral dress. They’d both debated on jeans and a nice shirt, but then Emma had decided on this dress while he pulled on a pair of navy slacks and a white button-down. It’s as if they’re going on a date or having to dress up for work, but that’s not what it is.
Killian still can’t quite believe that they’re doing this on a random Wednesday when they had so many other plans.
Not that their lives have ever gone according to plan.
“What are we going to do about a witness?” Emma asks as her hand squeezes his over his thigh. “Should we call someone and see if they can show up? Oh shit. Are we telling our families we did this?”
“Do you want to tell our families we did this?”
Her leg starts bouncing. “Not really. I mean, I do, but I – ”
“Want to keep this just between us?”
“Yeah,” Emma sighs, resting her cheek on his shoulder, “I think so. David and Mary Margaret will probably be pissed if they ever found out.”
“Liam and Elsa too. Anna most of all. Oh, shit, Addy and Lucy really will be. We’ll definitely have to wait until after the wedding to tell them.”
“If we ever tell them.”
“Yeah,” Killian agrees, “if we ever tell them. I’m sure we’ll be able to find someone at the courthouse to be our witness. I’m rather charming. I think I could convince someone.”
“Unless they’re a Red Sox fan.”
“We’re in New York.”
“That doesn’t mean anything.”Killian squeezes her hand, both to reassure Emma but also himself. “It’ll all be okay. If we can’t find anyone, I’d be happy to marry you tomorrow.”
It’s not long before they’re walking down the hallway of the city clerk’s office and then standing in line with at least ten other couples. Some are in dresses and tuxes, surrounded with families and friends, and Killian checks with Emma one more time to make sure there’s no wariness on her face over them having none of their loved ones here. All he can see is a beaming smile.
“Hey,” someone starts, turning to Killian, “are you – ”
“Aye.”
“Holy shit. Your 2019 win was just…damn, man. That was awesome. What do you think your odds are this year? I know last year sucked, but I’ve got hope for this year.”
“I think we’ve got a chance, but the season just started, you know? Anything can happen.” Killian reaches his hand out and shakes the man’s hand. “Killian Jones. And you are?”
“Ben McKinley. This is my wife, Caroline. We’re here for my brother and his soon-to-be husband.”
“It’s nice to meet you both. Say, Ben, can you do us a favor and be a witness for us since your brother is in line behind us?”
His brows go to his hairline. “Are you two here to get married?”
“Aye, but I’m afraid we didn’t bring anyone with us. You’d be doing us a big favor.”
“We’d love to do that,” Caroline adds in. “And Ben and I promise to be discreet.”
“Well, if it does leak, we’ll know how to find you.” Emma slaps his shoulder until he turns around to look at her. “What?”
“Did you just threaten them?”
He winks. Absolutely not.
It takes thirty minutes before their names are called, and then, within a blink of an eye, the ceremony is being performed and he and Emma are saying “I do.”
He never thought two words would feel so damn good.
He also never thought he’d have to politely be asked to stop making out with his wife in a courthouse, but life is full of surprises.
His wife.
It was all worth it. Every second of it. Of today. Of the past two years.
Everything.
“Hey, Jones,” Emma giggles as they walk out of the clerk’s office, hand in hand just like they’ve been for the past hour. They have new rings on their fingers, and he can’t stop running his thumb over Emma’s wedding band. He’s going to hate when they have to take them off, but it’s all worth it. “You do realize we’re still out of milk, right?”
His chuckle starts in his stomach and works its way all over his body, warming him more than the sun does. “Is that really what you’re focused on right now? Your cereal.”
“Oh, no,” Emma laughs, turning on her heels and wrapping her arms around his neck, “I was thinking of you making me brownies like you promised. I was also thinking of how much I love you.”
His hands settle on her hips. “What was winning in your mind? Your love for me or the brownies?”
“I feel like the answer will disappoint you.”
“Never.” Killian dips his head down and slants his lips over Emma’s, breathing her in. “I love you, even if you love brownies more than you love me.”
“Never,” Emma promises. “I think we’re going to have to run out of milk more often if it leads to days like this.”“I think we’re also out of eggs.”“Huh. Wonder what kind of trouble we’ll get into tomorrow when we go out to get the eggs.”
“Darling, I need eggs to cook the brownies. All this time, and you still don’t know basic recipes.”
Her smile is still the most brilliant he’s ever seen, and the blue is back in those green eyes of hers. “That’s what I have you for.”“Ah, so that’s why you married me.”
“It’s one of the reasons.”“What are the others?”
“Take me home, and you’ll find out.”
“I thought you’d never ask.”

okay, you literally asked for another longass post:
So, Madelyn is the oldest daughter to a gay head of state, and even though she's Sansa's biological daughter, her personality is so Margaery that it is almost frightening. She's Marg -- but even more outspoken and sometimes less diplomatic, because she has no designs on politics, so speaking her mind is somewhat of her status quo
Growing up, she wasn't the most popular. She wasn't *un*popular, either; she's wealthy, pretty, smart, and outgoing. but her mothers being who they are meant that anyone who has an issue with them in anyway didn't care for them, people have routinely thought that she gets it easier in life, and she's always sort of weary for people who want to get to know her and use her for who her moms are (it has happened. more than once.)
Anyway. So, coming out as bi was somewhat difficult for her, BECAUSE of Sansa and Margaery. Not because she was ashamed or anything, but because for the people who opposed Marg, a big part of them being against the Gays, you know, was about like, making children gay and being deviant and stuff. So, she didn't want to "prove" them right in any way. But regardless, her coming out was somewhat of a spectacle to the public. In college, she was dating a girl, who ended up making it public without her permission, and it was all over the media (this is somewhat of a side note into Ellie and Amelia's story. As in, Ellie kissed Amelia shortly after this happened, and worrying about Ellie having to face a public fallout the way she was watching Madelyn do was a factor into her gently turning her down)
So, anyway. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger, and Madelyn squared her shoulders and did the interviews and whatnot about her sexuality. But her walls went up more than a bit after that
She graduated from college and then law school, and unlike Ellie, who left King's Landing asap, Madelyn does love it there, and stays there and close to the moms as she makes a life for herself, working her way up at a prestigious law firm -- Madelyn puts a LOT of expectation on herself. Part of "I'm Margaery Tyrell's daughter" and a need to project herself as perfectly and put together as possible
That expectation also comes into her love life. Because she wants to settle down and to find her person, and sees her parents as like the golden standard to aspire to
So... her Future Love of Her Life comes into play also years earlier than they get together. At her firm, which she joins when she's 24 and already a boss ass bitch, there's a guy a couple years older than she is, who ends up being her nemesis at work. Olivar Florent, who - if able to vote when Marg was PM - wouldn't have voted for her. He’s an entitled jackass, who often talks shit about Madelyn and has like a complex about her. He also makes comments about her sexuality and believes she gets things easier because of her who mom is (when, a lot of the time, it has meant she's had to work twice as hard, esp at this job). They also are always competing for the same promotions and cases
When Madelyn first meets him, he's married to Emma, who is a couple years older than Madelyn as well, and is a decent enough presence around the office. Not that the two of them ever get along, really. She's not a Jackass like Olivar is, but she's married to him, which makes Madelyn already weary of her. Though, she sends baked goods to the office and is always at the office parties and whatnot. Even though - as Amelia will tease her over the years - Emma is physically her office crush (because she is Gorgeous and quietly witty), their only interactions over the years are short, often tense/charged conversations and she somewhat feels that Emma has something against her (which she assumes is the same shit that Olivar does)
Cut to Madelyn, age 35. She's been at the firm for 11 years, is kicking ass at work. She has the best moms in the world (her own words), a sister and a best friend who are together and who she loves both enough to kill for, and a baby niece. And... she's lonely af. As Sansa's daughter, she has a romantic soul, which led her into several romantic pursuits, and always ends up getting her heart broken. The last one of these had almost led to an engagement, but that got called off by the woman in question, who went on a diatribe about Madelyn somehow being Too Much but also Not Enough, and even though it was a couple of years ago, she's sort of soured on this whole trying to open her heart kind of thing
Now, on the other side of matters - about a year or two ago, Olivar got caught out cheating on Emma, and they separated. It was a huge thing for office gossip, and ever since then, of course, Emma hasn't been around the office. The one thing about Olivar that Madelyn DOES like, is his daughter. Alyssa, who's 13 and precocious af. And whenever he has the day with her, he usually ends up working and having her sit around in the office (because he's a shitty dad), and Madelyn always lets her sit in her office (where she has some Cool Stuff, knick knacks and stuff, and she talks to her like "an adult" - not like actually bringing up Grown Up topics, but, you know - and orders her lunch and stuff).
Their story would begin as such - Madelyn is coming into her office, and who is standing there but... Emma.
And she's confused, like... "I know it's been a while since you've been around here, but, Olivar's office is still a floor down from here." And Emma takes a deep breath and gathers her strength and, "I know. But I came to see you." Madelyn's eyes narrow and she's intrigued, and gives her a questioning look. Emma looks nervous, which - she's known her/seen her around for a decade, and she's never seen her fidget or look anything other than calm, so it’s strange with her all like, "I'm sorry I don't have an appointment. I... I just. I was wondering if we could talk." and she looks around the office, still nervous. So Madelyn nods and lets her in and is all, "I'm aware we don't know one another all that well. But, are you all right?" Emma blurts out that she wants to hire Madelyn as her divorce lawyer.
Madelyn is SHOCKED, because well, they've hardly spoken and never gotten along all that well when they have aside from a handful of surprising moments over the years (including one very memorable time in which they were caught under mistletoe at an office holiday party and Madelyn laughed it off, rolling her eyes at her somewhat drunk coworkers, but Emma had been -- just staring at her. Her mouth, specifically. Madelyn had tentatively put her hand on her elbow to murmur to ignore everyone, and it had jolted Emma out of her stare. And basically had her avoiding the office for a few months).
Plus, "You two aren't divorced?" Because they've been separated for almost 2 years now, as far as she knows. And Emma is biting at the inside of her cheek, because she has trouble being super open with a lot of people, especially after having been in a marriage with someone who is domineering and rude and loud and controlling. But she sighs and confesses that Olivar has been fighting against actually getting a divorce ever since she moved out, and has been doing everything in his disposal to stop her from proceeding, and she is sick of it. BUT Olivar has a lot of money (she was a stay at home wife/mother, before), he comes from a prestigious family, and has a LOT of legal/political connections, and he isn’t afraid to make threats about custody or lord anything over her head, so it's been a very difficult time for her
Madelyn is still surprised, and is all, "Why me?" Bc over the years, Emma would have basically known everyone at the lawfirm. But Emma tells her that she knows she's at least as good of a lawyer, if not better, than Olivar is, because of the amount of issues she'd caused him. And she knows she is outspoken and not afraid to lay a smack down when needed (paraphrasing), and... she bites her lip but has a gleam in her eye that Madelyn enjoys when she says that she knows Madelyn wouldn't be afraid to take a case that is going against Olivar, because she knows how much she dislikes him and how much they don't get along. And Madelyn takes it in, nodding, because, Emma's not wrong. Plus, she can imagine the look on Olivar's face when he finds out, and - yeah, she likes that
And thus, a deal is struck.
They start meeting up after that - out of the office, at Madelyn's suggestion, because the less Olivar sees them and could find out about what they talk about/their plans, the better. So, they start meeting up and getting coffees at the cafe that Emma is working in (which she is embarrassed about, explaining to Madelyn on one of her breaks, after being somewhat standoffish, because she's a 37 year old woman who spent the majority of her adult life relying on her husband to pay for everything and now she's worried and struggling. Emma and Olivar met when they were in college, and even though she graduated with an art history degree, she has never done anything with it/has little experience because of him not wanting her to work, and they got married at like 23).
Madelyn takes it all in, Emma’s flushed cheeks and mutterings about calling herself an idiot for being in that situation, her fidgeting - before she slides her hand across the table and onto Emma’s. Which makes her cheeks darken and she stares down at Madelyn’s hand on hers, before looking up at her while Madelyn tells her that anyone could have gotten swept up when they were young and being trapped in a bad situation isn’t her fault. And that her aunt worked in a cafe for a long while in her adult years, and that she admires her work ethic. Before she realizes - okay, maybe Emma had in the past had a discomfort about her sexuality, and she drops her hand.
Spurring Emma into action and she tries to talk about paying Madelyn, laying out a financial plan (because she knows that there is no way Madelyn doesn't make a ton of money from her clients, since she remembers how much Olivar makes), Madelyn tells her to pay her in coffee, unable to hold back a little wink
So, they start to bond over the next couple of months, learning about one another, bit by bit. Madelyn brings her work out of the office sometimes when she doesn’t have to, setting up shop in the coffee shop. Talking on her breaks. They end up catching the end of a documentary that’s airing on a television in the cafe one day, one made about Margaery and thus features Madelyn heavily, and Madelyn surprises herself by sighing at it. Emma watching her carefully and saying that Madelyn made all of it, with all of the pressure, look very easy, and Madelyn pushes through a smile and they talk. Emma opens up a bit about how the few days Olivar does get to have Alyssa, she worries about her, and that they are typically the days she goes to see her mother in the care facility she is in, as she has dementia, and it’s just... a lot.
Emma is still a bit reserved around Madelyn, though she doesn't know exactly why. The moments where they share smiles and then Emma will clear her throat and look away or suddenly need to get back to doing something at that given moment. This only kind of changes over a month in, when they are meeting at Emma's apartment for the first time, and Alyssa is there and sees Madelyn and gets super excited and they talk a bit about what's going on for her school project. And Emma is ?? confused... until Alyssa shrugs it off and tells her that she hangs out in Madelyn's office whenever she's had to go to Olivar's work, basically for years, even when they were married.
But that sort of really starts breaking through the reserve she has remaining, because Madelyn is just almost maddeningly lovely. It’s a bit scary
Olivar comes to drop something off (and rage about the divorce papers he's just been served, which had been why Madelyn had stopped by to drop off a “celebratory gift” for the papers being served -- she kind of already has this actual crush going on), and sees Madelyn there, which only makes him more pissed. And then ANGRIER when Alyssa purposefully implies that Madelyn and Emma are a little something-something more
Madelyn goes along with it at the time, because, well, she hates the man and it’s so very far from the worst thing she could imagine... but when Olivar leaves, she apologizes. Especially because she has always thought her sexuality/her moms has played into Emma's reservedness around her
But Emma is sort of frozen and blushing and eventually admits that it's okay (and now... gods, she has Thoughts).
But that sparked a Thing, and now around the office, it's going around the Madelyn is not only defending Emma against Olivar in their divorce, but also that they are dating. Which she keeps up as a facade, even though she knows she SHOULDN'T. This, of course, leads to a Fake Kiss That Feels Real, of course, and then after that is when Emma admits that she isn't exactly straight, which was a very confusing revelation for her, which also caused a big thing between her and Olivar and is something he has threatened to use against her in the divorce if she ever went through with it. (and she admits that a part of why she'd always been so distant toward Madelyn is because she was always SO unapologetically herself and outspoken about who she was and about supporting her moms and Emma (especially when she and Madelyn first met) was intimidated by that, and tbh pretty nervous because she was (and is) attracted to Madelyn, like everything about her) [also, she might have secretly had the magazine article from when Madelyn came out when she was in college for a long time, because it was like a celeb-fantasy-crush, when she was first feeling like she might not have been straight]
They get even closer, like... Madelyn doesn’t even know. Almost dating? Sort of? They’ve had some more moments since the kiss, and she knows without a doubt how much she wants Emma. Emma meets Sansa and Marg, and winds up getting a job at a museum that Sansa gets her an interview at. Emma is thrilled that Alyssa and Madelyn are so close and also admits that a lot of what had put her off of Madelyn, aside from her sexuality and everything I already said, was that Olivar would often say things about her that were entirely unflattering, but she sees now that they were all super untrue and that Madelyn is actually... pretty dreamy. Featuring a lovely moment wherein Olivar sees Madelyn and Alyssa and Emma at one of the office parties (because Madelyn told them to come as they were "dating" in the eyes of everyone else at the office), and when he makes a threat to Emma about taking away custody, about her being gay, about all of the connections he has, Madelyn stepping in and being like, "You think you have connections? I'd like to see you even try. Actually, I would love it. Really."
Which... Emma is... well how can she even try to resist that? (she cant)
And when they go home from that night, they sleep together, and thus, the lines get blurred and it feels so thrilling but so messy. Madelyn starts worrying about not being good for them and that she is really overstepping in their lives, plus she starts to have some trouble at the firm (because Olivar has one of the partners essentially tied around his finger) and this is causing "unnecessary tension" and when Emma finds that out, she doesn't want to complicate Madelyn's life and decides that they shouldn't be doing this
Which cues a few lonely weeks, as the divorce really sets in motion, and Madelyn has a chat with Margaery about living up to expectation and being perfect. She misses Emma and Alyssa - who also miss her quite a bit.
But then in the end, Madelyn quits her job and goes to another firm that has been after her for years. Slightly less prestigious, but better - morally - and she goes to represent Emma, who is shocked that she came, given how their big fight went when she fired her. And then, naturally, comes the big confessions of actual feelings, and Madelyn might have felt like she is either too much or never enough and that she needs to be perfect, but she really is pretty perfect for this little family

It must have been well over a year ago now, when Liam Payne realised he had absolutely nothing interesting to say. The singer, known to most as ‘Liam from One Direction’ until the group’s indefinite hiatus in January 2016, had returned to the studio, settled into the idea of being a solo artist for the rest of his days, and promptly drawn a blank. He was, he says, just too darned happy to think of anything.
Everything in his life had fallen into place. He’d found love, moving in with Cheryl (formerly Cole), a fellow junior royal of the Top 40. Their first child, a son named Bear, was well on the way. He had signed a huge record deal with Capitol. He felt fitter and healthier than he had in years. And, yes, there’s no denying it: he was pretty pleased that he no longer had to be in the biggest boyband in the world.
‘I had a bit of a problem formulating what was going on in my brain into the music at first,’ he says, ‘because I was so content with everything in my personal life. It’s easy to spill your guts out on a ballad. But I was thinking, “Oh God, I’m really happy – what am I going to write about?!”’
More than 12 months on, the answer to that question still isn’t entirely clear. Payne’s debut album, as yet untitled, won’t be released until early 2018. There have been two singles, though, with a third, the unsubtly titled Bedroom Floor, arriving next month.
Of those we’ve heard, the first, Strip That Down, a R&B-inflected club hit released in May and co-written with Ed Sheeran, marked a departure from One Direction’s stadium pop-rock. It was also chock-full of hoary by-the-way-I’m-an-adult-now signposts: there are references to nightclubs, drinking rum and coke, driving Ferraris and having girls ‘grind’ on him. And mixed in with all that were lyrics that caused a minor stir among his acolytes: ‘You know I used to be in 1D, now I’m out, free / people want me for one thing, that’s not me’. Payne, it seems, is keen to reintroduce himself.
‘When I left the band, I felt a bit stranded,’ he says, when we meet in an enormous boardroom at his management’s offices. ‘It took time, but I know as an artist I am starting fresh now.’ He slaps the table with melodrama. ‘This is Moment One. It’s the start line.’
Liam Payne is 24 years old. He is athletically built, as anyone who has seen his shirtless Instagram posts will know, and kind of everyday handsome, in a Love Island, former-youth-footballer way. Both his arms and hands are almost entirely upholstered in tattoos, highlights of which include some thick black arrows on one forearm that look like road markings; the number ‘4’, in reference to One Direction’s 2014 album of the same name, on his ring finger; and, on his left arm, a scale depiction of Cheryl’s eye, that appears to follow you around the room as he gesticulates. ‘It’s so my missus can always keep an eye on me,’ he likes to say about that one.
He is impossibly nice. Before we meet, he plods through the office, saying hello to everybody in the building individually, and in most cases remembering something about them: that they beat him at Fifa last time he dropped by, so they must have a rematch before he leaves (‘I’ll whoop ya with West Brom!’), or they’ve surely had a haircut, haven’t they? (‘It looks really great anyway, man!’). It is the manner of somebody both impeccably raised and intensely keen for people to like him, and it appears genuine and successful.
To an extent, Payne says, the five members of One Direction – or four, after Zayn Malik left the band in 2015 – ended up playing characters over the six years they were together. Whereas the Beatles (arguably the only other group with a comparable scale and speed of world domination), grew increasingly cantankerous towards the end of the 1960s, One Direction stuck resolutely to the caricatures that fans and management assigned them right to the end.
Malik was brooding and mercurial, Harry Styles was a cool, flamboyant ladies’ man, Niall Horan was charming and laid-back, and Louis Tomlinson, who has since admitted to feeling a little redundant, was fun and energetic. And Payne? Well, Payne was The Responsible One.
‘I’ve always been a bit of an older soul,’ he says, mulling over his place. ‘It’s funny: there’s a thing on the net where the fans put what they think are our mental ages. All the boys were around their real ones, but then they put me at about 37.’
Payne admits to feeling a little daunted in 2010, when Simon Cowell thrust the band together on X Factor after they’d auditioned as solo artists. Keeping up with the other personalities in the gang was exhausting, so his coping mechanism was to attempt to rein them in as best he could, and work with management in doing so. Like the popular schoolboy teachers identify as mature enough to be a trusted emissary for his recalcitrant friends, Payne carved himself a valuable niche.
‘I was put with a group of rowdy teenagers, and when I was a teenager, I had mates, but I was always with my dad. I’d go out to the pub and chat with him. So when I was stuck with these boys I was thinking, “F— me, I don’t know how to do it.”
‘When something was going wrong, I’d get a phone call. If there was an apology needed, it was me. I was the spokesperson for the band, as it were, with the press and the label.’
Along with Tomlinson, Payne shares comfortably the most writing credits of the band on One Direction songs. Over their five albums, dozens of songwriting collaborators contributed to the group’s success, but it seems nobody worked harder than the two least-heralded members. Neither was the showiest or best singer; but they kept things ticking over.
One Direction’s hordes of fans around the world noticed the assumed roles, and nicknamed Payne ‘Daddy Directioner’. He lived up to it with them, too. In 2013, on tour in Australia, Payne tweeted a message to warn girls waiting outside the band’s hotel of snakes living in the surrounding fields. ‘It’s just not worth it someone’s gunna get hurt [sic],’ he pleaded.
Two years later, he gave an interview lamenting the fact he and the other boys were being sent sexually explicit pictures of themselves drawn by underage admirers. While the rest of the band seemed to find that funny, Payne called it ‘the sad and sorry side of what we’ve done.’ Yeah, all right, Dad.
Becoming a real-life father has at least given the nickname some purchase. Rumours swirled at the end of 2015 that he had started dating Cheryl – formerly Fernandez-Versini and Cole, née Tweedy – after her second marriage ended in divorce. By the next summer, she was pregnant with the second One Direction baby (Tomlinson, the eldest of the bunch, had one first).
The couple live in a mansion near Woking, Surrey, and aren’t married, but he considers them ‘basically at that stage’. Bear, with whom Payne is besotted, was born in March, and named for the growling noises he was making during his first sleeps. So far, no photographs have been released, but he instantly shows me one on his phone. And here, I can exclusively reveal that the heir Bear is – as you’d expect of a baby with that name, born of two professionally good-looking parents – very cute.
‘We’ve only shown him in glimpses,’ Payne says, explaining their decision to shield him. ‘We don’t want him to have the pressure that me and Cheryl have, as household names. We want him to enjoy himself first and then figure it out.’
Born and raised in Wolverhampton, Payne has an unexpectedly thick Midlands accent that gets thicker the longer he talks – which is a lot. His preferred conversational feature is the anecdote, resulting in a version of the phrase, ‘I remember, there was this one time…’ prefixing the majority of his utterances, which are in turn regularly punctuated with singular handclaps of self-incredulity. It can be mildly alarming, like interviewing a young, heavily-tattooed Ronnie Corbett, but I suppose it speaks to the amount of life experience he has already accrued.
Growing up, Payne’s father, Geoff, worked as a fitter, while his mother, Karen, was a nursery nurse. Money was tight and the house small, but he remembers it as a happy one.
‘My place was on the floor with the dog, there was no space on the sofa. It was great, though we didn’t have much. Dad was in debt, but they did the best they could. It makes you dream a bit, you know?’
As a child, he had two routes to possible stardom, both of which Geoff pushed hard for. One was singing, the other was long-distance running. For a time in his teens, Payne was one of the fastest 1500m runners in the country, getting up to train before school and seconds from qualifying for the London 2012 squad. It was before that, as a 14-year-old in 2008, that he first applied for X Factor.
Auditioning with Fly Me To The Moon, since it was one of the few songs he could manage while his voice was breaking, that year he got as far as the ‘judge’s houses’, before Simon Cowell told him to come back in two years and try again. He became a mini-celebrity back home in that between-period, and carried on performing around town. The adulation was short-lived, though.
Once, performing a Justin Timberlake cover at an under-18s gig in Oceana Wolverhampton, somebody lobbed a coin at his face and managed to draw blood. He laughs about it now. These days – admittedly a largely cashless society – it’s only bras and knickers they fling.
‘I had become less and less famous. One time, I was in McDonald’s with a girlfriend and someone shouted ‘X Factor reject!’ at me. The whole restaurant turned. It was like coming out of fame. So I knew what it was like at 15, and it helped me.’
Following Cowell’s advice, he returned to X Factor in 2010 and found himself shoved into One Direction with the four other boys, eventually finishing the competition in third place, but with easily the brightest future. Within weeks, he had moved out of his Wolverhampton bedroom and into a penthouse apartment in Canary Wharf.
And six years later, One Direction had sold more than 20 million records, become the first band in history to have their first four albums go to number one in the US, touring the world numerous times, and earned a preposterous amount of money in the process. Payne is now estimated to be worth £40 million. He hasn’t been back to Wolverhampton in a long time, but he paid off his father’s debts years ago, and bought his parents a new house in addition to funding the renovation of their family home. He refers to his time spent in One Direction as ‘like uni’.
When they were in the thick of things, all the boys used to obey Cowell’s omertà – relentless enthusiasm at all times, please – and never discussed any negative aspects of their experience. Now safely out the other side, Payne is frank on matters of burnout and claustrophobia.
‘Cabin fever. It sent me a bit AWOL at one point, if I’m honest. I can remember when there were 10,000 people outside our hotel. We couldn’t go anywhere. It was just gig to hotel, gig to hotel. And you couldn’t sleep, because they’d still be outside,’ he says, before telling several stories of how he and Tomlinson would sneak out of hotels just to feel freedom, only to find themselves bored once they got out.
‘People were speaking to me about mental health in music the other day, and that’s a big issue. Sometimes you just need some sun, or a walk.’
Every stop on tour became the same. Earlier this year, Payne was asked which was his favourite city of those he visited with One Direction. ‘One in Italy with a big white cathedral,’ he responded.(The band performed in Milan at least five times.)
‘One of the problems was that we never stopped to celebrate what we’d done. I remember us winning loads of American Music Awards and then having to get on a plane straight away. It got to the point where success was so fluid. I don’t even know what happened to our songs, we just sang them, then sang some more. It was like a proper, hard job. Non-stop. I can concentrate a lot more now.’
The paparazzi and fan attention sounds just as draining. It must feel weird having a Twitter following larger than the population of Australia, as he does, but especially odd to have fans so obsessed that they’ve set up multiple fake profiles pretending to be your mother, for some reason.
Moreover, footage of One Direction out and about makes A Hard Day’s Night look tame: thousands of screaming fans all over them, police escorts everywhere they went, an unending run of selfie requests... It came to a head in New York in 2012, when Payne was walking to a restaurant with his parents and a paparazzo accidentally pushed his mother over. He was incensed.
‘I was like, “Oh, f— this. F— this s—t.” There was a swarm of them and I just wanted a burger with my parents,’ he says, unsmiling for a moment. ‘I cried my eyes out. I thought, “I can’t do this”, and really hated my life.’
He soldiered on, but it wasn’t a healthy lifestyle; none of them seems to miss it now the ‘break’ is on.
‘It’s great that people can see what we’re really like away from each other,’ Payne says. ‘It got to a point in the band where we were just playing characters, and I was tired of my character. Apart from the daddy thing, I was really loud and bubbly. There were a lot of personalities in the band to keep up with, so I had to be all, ‘Ey!’, the rowdy lad, and I don’t have to now.’
There were times when the band would celebrate hard, and in that, Payne had catching up to do: as a child, he was diagnosed with a scarred kidney, meaning he didn’t taste alcohol until he was given the all-clear at 19. Tell a teenage millionaire they can now safely drink, and they’ll go for it. He admits ‘the floodgates opened’ that year.
‘I wasn’t happy. I went through a real drinking stage, and sometimes you take things too far. Everyone’s been that guy at the party where you’re the only one having fun, and there were points when that was me. I got to 13 stone, just eating crap. I got fat jibes, and it affects your head. I have nothing to hide about it…
‘As I say, it was like a musical university. We were pretty reckless, but I got it out of my system. I had my fun.’
The hiatus seems to have come at just the right time. But before he could take a breath, Payne lurched on in life, becoming involved with Cheryl almost at once.
Nobody asks how they met; their introduction is on YouTube for all to see. Ten years his senior, she was an X Factor judge in 2008 when the 14-year-old Payne shuffled in, all mop-hair and waistcoat, to perform his Sinatra number. He winked at her, she called him ‘cute’, they bumped into one another over the years, ended up working on a remix of one of her songs in 2014, and the rest is recent pop history.
Not everybody was happy when the relationship was initially confirmed. That Cheryl was in a quasi-pastoral role when they met raised eyebrows in the usual eyebrow-raising camps, as did the couple’s decade-wide age gap. Liam doesn’t care. In fact, he can still barely get over the fact she’s his girlfriend.
‘It’s a ridiculous place to be in,’ he says. ‘She’s even more amazing than I thought. I was watching her do Fight For This Love [her debut solo single, from 2009] when I was a kid, and now we’re together with a kid. I feel like I’m X Factor’s biggest winner.’
It helps having Cheryl around to ask about business matters. Like Payne, she was scouted on a TV pop contest (2002’s Popstars: The Rivals), had massive success in a group (Girls Aloud), and then went solo with a more urban sound. She is also the unlikely possessor of the record for number-one singles by a British woman.
‘We think about the same things. She understands what my life is like. She knows what it’s like to sit on the Graham Norton couch [or] we can talk about her L’Oréal work. It’s not that we’re “a brand” as a family, but we can help each other.’
In Who We Are, one of One Direction’s seven books, published in 2014, Payne writes in his chapter that he’s ‘worried about the idea of failing outside of this band’ and declared he’d become a low-key songwriter, because ‘there would be less attention on my life’.
The opposite of that is what’s happening, I inform him.
‘Yeah, that was a point when I was scared of our success, and we didn’t want to take a step back from it,’ he says. ‘I just wanted to be a songwriter and not be famous, but happy. Then Simon and Cheryl told me this is where I am supposed to be, and I’d miss the stage. The pressure of what was coming next was scary, but they talked me down.’
The solo product he’s come up with is the sort of music he’d always wanted to make: radio-friendly R&B in the style of his heroes, Justin Timberlake, Usher and Pharrell Williams, and more informed by the rap music he listens to than the pop he’s famous for. Who knows if he can shake the ‘embarrassing dad’ brand to pull it off, but the signs point to success. Strip That Down has been streamed more than 300 million times on Spotify alone.
‘I wanted this to be for people my age. The themes are a bit older, but you have to grow up with your fans. I can’t make bubblegum pop any more,’ he says.
One Direction fans needn’t despair. They might have dispersed and almost all signed elsewhere, but Payne is excited about the idea of a comeback gig in years to come. As, I’m sure, are the band’s accountants.
But that won’t be for a little while, if Payne has it his way, because – as he keeps on telling me – he is just far too happy with his lot at the moment to take a step backwards. When it reaches our time to wrap up, he’s still at it.
‘I feel great about what’s going on in my life,’ he says, giving it one last handclap and springing to his feet. ‘I’m extremely lucky. I feel like I’m in a comatose dream. I’m like, “when did I last bump my head?” because I can’t believe this…’
Liam Payne’s next single, Bedroom Floor, is out on 20 October

Prompt Masterlist
Thanks so much to everyone who submitted prompts! We have so many and I hope that one (or more) of them inspire you! Below the cut is a masterlist of all of the prompts from the form/google list. They are separated by AU and Non-AU. The two prompts pertaining to AO3 warning topics are posted separately.
Non-AU Prompts
1. Geno ends up leaving to play in the Olympics, but Sid does the good boy Canadian thing and stays and then Russia wins and Canada not only loses but loses badly and media starts blaming Sid and Geno doesn't know how to make it better
2. Future fic: Sid and Geno had some false starts, could never really get their shit together -- maybe Sid wasn't ready to get married or have kids, maybe Geno really couldn't reconcile living as an out gay man and be committed to his country. Geno retires before Sid, goes back to Russia to raise his family, and try to forget that Sid might have been the love of his life, that he chose country over seeing what could have been. Sid either retires or, for maximum angst, suffers a career-ending injury (not a concussion, maybe, that's even too much for me!), and goes back to Halifax where he continues with his hockey school, get his history degree, billets some kids in the Q, and tries to be okay with being alone. Geno and Anna get divorced but are still close; Sid tries to date some but just can't make a connection. When Nikita is 16, he's drafted to the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL, and Sid volunteers to billet him. He calls Geno to make sure it's okay, it's the first time they've talked in literally years, and it's awkward and terrible and neither one of them know what to say or want to hang up. Nikita says yes and he comes to live with Sid. Cue Sid and Geno dancing around each other from afar, Sid having to see the evidence LIVING IN HIS HOUSE that he couldn't give Geno the thing he wanted, which was a marriage and a good Russian son, and Geno having to get regular updates on the alternate timeline he told himself he didn't think about anymore, Sid and his son under the same roof, puttering around the house and skating on the pond in Sid's backyard, Sid speaking his terrible, flat Russian. Geno comes to visit, uhhhh, I don't know, more emotional shit happens, lots of hurt feelings and UST and then they finally work their shit out and Geno moves back to America and in with Sid and they give it a go and are happy and content but because this is an angst fest the last twist of the knife is that Nikita gets drafted to the Flyers and Sidney is devastated and Geno laughs in his face for five days the end.
3. Sid and Geno as fuckbuddies who are both super emotionally invested and probably in love with each other but both assume the other is just in it for the sex. They break up about 80 times and keep falling back into bed together, each one promising himself THIS TIME would be the last time. They're making themselves miserable along with everyone else who can very clearly see the issue but neither of them can. Lots of sex followed by emotional turmoil rinse repeat
4. I want a good old fashioned Canadian shack fic with a snowed-in plot twist. Maybe during bye week (I think the 2014/15 season would be a good brewing ground for this kind of plot) Sid and Geno rent a cabin somewhere in the Canadian wilderness to decide once and for all where to take their on-again/off-again love affair that spans nearly a decade by now. (Could also be that they've been tip-toeing around their attraction to each other for a decade, unsure whether or not to ever do anything about it.) It's probably not the best time for it. The season isn't going well. They're both worn and exhausted, maybe battling injuries, and predictably they have a fight not long after arriving that ends with Geno (could be Sid) taking off in the middle of a snowstorm. Whoever is left behind has some regrets about what was said when the wind and snow picks up and they're beside themselves, worrying about the one who left. Eventually whoever left comes back, maybe in the car, maybe by foot, and they end up snowed-in together in their Canadian shack. (They're millionaires, it's probably not actually a shack.) Ideally, they resolve their problems (or at least start to work on them) and decide to live happily ever after but I'll leave that up to the writer.
5. Geno's contract is up and Sid doesn't know if he's going to re-sign or go somewhere else (can be future fic or when his bridge contract ended in 13-14)
6. Sid has a big gay crush on Geno and is Not handling it well.
7. Something about Olympics and the political tension.
8. I'd love to see a fic that explores the dynamic of Geno being so emotionally romantic and occasionally dramatic (seriously, he rented an actual tiger for Anna's birthday) and Sid being so stoic and intensely private about his love life. Their differences in personality seems like a great brewing ground for romantic misunderstandings. 9. Ideally features Sid making a grand romantic gesture of some kind.
10. post-loss h/c
11. This isn't really a prompt but PINING. I want all the pining. One of them or both being absolutely convinced there's no way the other could ever love them back. Could be any kind of setting. Fuck buddies. Arranged marriage. Fake dating. Best Friends. ABO.
12. Tournament angst. Olympics for max angst, Worlds for a notch down. Sid and Geno very tentatively start fooling around shortly before said tournament, and Canada’s victory throws a wrench in the emotional works. Lots of sneaking around and feelings.
13. Breakup fic. Geno was ready for kids, and Sid wasn't. Now, Geno's with Anna, she's moved to Pittsburgh, they're both glowing, and Sid's at a low point in his career and is filled with grief and regret. He asks Geno for a second chance, and Geno tells him Anna's pregnant and it's too late. Make me cry.
14. "There have been a lot of changes to the team this summer and the Pens core is never going to be the same and gosh, we're thirty and I'm afraid our best days are behind us" Sid/Geno style. Semi-realist angst. Bonus (but unnecessary) "you're the only constant in a sea of change" type resolution.
15. Lockout separation!! G going back to Russia, and Sid staying in Pittsburgh to mediate, long distance relationship angst!
16. Retirement, "we went our separate ways without telling each other how we feel"--type stuff
17. “I thought things were going great.”
18. Better late than never
19. Sid visits Geno in Russia for the first time since they started getting together, and Geno's awkward about it because internalized homophobia and also Russia's homophobia, and it strains their relationship.
20. in the midst of a great season (and great for him personally), sid vanishes. after the season is done, geno receives his call, and goes to find out what happened.
21. cheating. Just--cheating.
22. One thinks the other is cheating/one thinks the other wants to break up, so they decide to bite the bullet and break up first. authors choice whether or not the communication happens during the break up or days/weeks/months/YEARS after.
23. amnesia fic!
24. Sid overhears a phone call and mistakenly thinks Geno is moving back to Russia/KHL/whatever you want. So he starts to pull away and be cold and distant and this upsets Geno a LOT. And Sid obviously. And generally everyone is sad... until it gets sorted after the team throws him a going away party and then afterwards everyone is happy and S/G fall in love. (I'm thinking they weren't together at first but honestly if anyone wants to write this... they could maybe be a couple. Makes it more angsty!)
25. Geno wants to come out. Sid doesn't.
26. a story about outing, and maybe with some time travel?
27. Pet death.... :( hurt/comfort. Maybe later on, adopting something small and fluffy together.
28. Russia recalls its players, forcing them to choose between leaving the NHL or giving up Russian citizenship.
29. Post-retirement, they meet again at the Olympics, Sid coaching team Canada and Geno on team Russia's staff. They haven't spoken in almost a decade.
30. Unrequited? Sid has a girlfriend that he's talking about marriage with. Seems like it's time for Geno to move on.
31. They've been fuck buddies for a while now, but Sid can't take it any more. Geno makes one joke too many about his booty call and Sid calls it all off.
32. Where they've been broken up for a while and maybe one of them has juuuust started to move on and then they start spending a bunch of time together again for reasons and see all those things in each other that they loved and miss. Just so much sadness and bittersweetness and nostalgia. Doesn't have to end up with them back together necessarily.
33. something to do with Sid having anxiety? I feel like a lot of his rituals and stuff could really be seen as coping mechanisms, and it's be interesting to see if maybe that impacts his relationship with Geno, or if Sid's afraid of it impacting his relationship with Geno.
34. One of them confesses feelings for the other. The feelings aren't mutual.
35. You know that pic from worlds 2015, where Sid is sitting in the locker room and looking (really beautiful and) like he's holding back tears? What is an angstfest-appropriate backstory to that? Is it maybe linked to Sid's not-so-stellar start to the 2015-2016 season too? (Initially I thought about this from Sid's POV, but Geno's could also work really well!) [NOTE FROM MOD: https://sidsass.tumblr.com/post/163755745701]
36. G gets engaged. Sid goes off the deep end.
37. Citing his wish to avoid permanent damage following repeat concussions, Sid "quietly" retires at the beginning of the '17-'18 season on the condition that G gets the C. The reality is that his exhausted from harboring his unrequited feelings AND from G not getting the recognition he deserves. He officially passes the baton but otherwise avoids seeing or talking to Geno and gradually disappears. Years down the line, G finds out the truth.
38. Sid starts exhibiting psychological/behavioral symptoms of post-concussion syndrome. This puts a strain on his and Geno's relationship.
39. Forced outing (of either of them or both) leads to homophobia from both fans and teammates and potentially disastrous consequences
40. One of them wakes up in 2012 again
41. Sid and Geno are fuck-buddies until one of them is outed. The other has to choose - come out or don't come out. And figure out their feelings about each other (can they weather this storm or is this the end of their friendship too?)
42. Geno is forced to go back to Russia for Secret Angsty Reasons. He tries to keep in contact with the team, but eventually they grow further apart until the only contact they have is through social media. Fast forward 10 years, Sid is retired and goes on holiday to [place], where he finds Geno, and Secret Angsty Reasons become not-so-secret.
43. One of them is injured in a potentially career-ending way
44. One of them is outed by a teammate
45. Internalised homophobia
46. Fake relationship where one of them is in love but the other isn't
47. Sid finally makes it to Russia with Geno...for Geno's wedding ceremony.
48. Sid gets a concussion and seems like he's recovering well...except he doesn't remember his relationship with Geno. They had just gotten together, everything still really new, and they hadn't told anyone because Sid insisted they wait until after the season. So Geno has no one to turn to, has to act like everything is fine, even though his heart is breaking because Sid is treating him like nothing more than a friend. More angst potential: Sid dates around! Someone on the team definitely had figured it out and now Geno's wishing for when he was dealing with it alone because the pity is even worse! Geno slowly realizing that maybe Sid did this to himself because he didn't want to ever come out and his brain took the opportunity to erase their relationship before he was in too deep! Just put Geno through absolute emotional hell.
49. Destined to kill each other and there is no love will redeem the other option here.
50. The fallout of their divorce. What now?
51. sid learning how to be less than perfect
52. set before and during the 2023-24 season. sid and geno aren't together but both are privately thinking they should finally make a move. then over the summer geno (who signed a contract the year before that ends at the same point as sid's, so they can retire together) is traded to a team the pens only play once or twice a year because the pens have salary cap/roster problems (I know he has a no movement clause, let's say they didn't put it in the new one for some reason). cue a LOT of pining and separation-induced sadness. angst and stress. pretending not to be as cut up about it as they are. etc etc. maybe they have an emotional/dramatic reunion on ice, maybe one of them is injured and the other is horrified but can't do anything, maybe both... basically how sad can you make pining while still making a happy ending, or at least a hopeful ending
53. Everyone always says how good Geno is at not being bothered by Sid getting all the accolades. How chill he is. How content to be out of the spotlight. How secure. That's... really not how he feels, and there's a point where it gets to be too much.
54. They do the coming out thing so they can be together properly, after keeping it secret from pretty much everyone for years, and the irony is that *this* is the thing that finally fucks up their relationship.
55. Geno never returns from his summer in Russia. Everyone becomes frantic looking for him but he’s not found. It remains a mystery and life goes on. Time passes, Sid still plays and the team still wins games but even after the grief has subsided, there is an ache deep in his chest that won’t go away. Sid *misses* Geno, doesn’t think he’ll stop missing him, doesn’t really understand why he hurts this bad. One day, Geno returns [insert random hockey magic here], Sid is an emotional mess dealing with it.
56. Hotels as liminal spaces. Sid's been hooking up with Geno in hotels in various cities where they play. But it doesn't feel real, so it's not real...right?
57. Reunion fic after a bad breakup (that was due to legit conflict that was both people's faults).
58. Dubcon ritual sex for the good of the team. Maybe Sid and Geno weren't together before this?
59. Professional hockey is indentured servitude, basically slavery. Sexual relationships between teammates aren't allowed, but that doesn't always stop them from happening. At first Sid and Geno are just finding relief in each other from all the pressure, but it turns into more.
60. Unrequited love, written from the POV of the one not pining.
61. AU-canon divergence: Sid put love and dating on hold to focus on hockey. He meets a cute guy while out to team dinner. They get dessert. Geno gets a little jealous.
62. Geno had asked Sid to wait for him to be ready. Not while he was so new to the team, he said. Not while the team was so unstable. Not while they were on the brink of a Cup win. And then he met Anna, and things happened. Geno moved to Russia when he retired, and he and Sid only saw each other at the draft, the World Cup, and now, the Olympics.
63. During the lockout, Sid followed Geno to the KHL. He hadn't thought having to hide their relationship would be so hard.
64. Ovie invites Sid to his wedding. Sid goes stag. Geno pines from afar.
65. canon divergence: the concussion specialists told Sid he'd need at least a year to recover. He goes home to Cole Harbour. The team struggles without him.
66. As much as I love homophobia free!NHL or a NHL with minimal homophobia, the reality is probably a lot less sunny. So, both Sid and Geno aren't out (except maybe to close friends), they're both very careful, and they know to never, ever get caught. Except, after the SCF, they're high on their win and get drunk and kiss each other, and somehow there are photos and somehow the photos are leaked. A shitstorm ensues.
67. one of them is battling an addiction to painkillers as a side effect of so many chronic injuries, and it's affecting both hockey and relationship.
68. Sidney and Geno are happily married and looking to start a family. They decide to foster a little boy (or girl, whichever) they meet at the little penguins hockey program (he's like seven or so) after finding out that his foster family is physically and emotionally abusing him. They do their best to try and help him, but things get overwhelming when trying to balance their careers and raising a child who has faced so much psychological trauma already. Then things get worse when the child's father is released from jail and fights Sid and Geno for custody of his kid. ((preferably nothing super explicit trauma wise, but i would like for there to be heavy emotional moments because the kid has been through so much and is a little intimidated by two very big and very strong pro hockey players. and sidney and geno love kids and don't want to fail this sweet child that is under their care. and i would like for the ending to be happy if the author is ok with it.))
69. sid and geno are in a friends with benefit situation where geno thinks theyre dating but sid just thinks theyre friends with benefits
70. Sidney gets another concussion, but it knocks him out cold on the ice, and he wakes up blind and with amnesia. Geno is shattered because hasn't Sidney been through enough? Geno offers to take care of him, but their relationship is so rocky now, and he was ready to propose to Sid when he got his concussion. Preferably a happy ending, but whatever floats the author's boat is fine with me.
71. Around the time Sid and Geno retire, Geno divorces his wife. He and Sid finally get together after all these years, but haven't really told anyone yet - in particular, not Geno's near-grow kids, because the relationship is new and Geno doesn't know how they'll take it. And then Geno gets pregnant.
72. Sid really IS a baby-snatcher/kidnapper, and Geno finds out. Ideas may include how Sid came to be like this, how he did it, how often (was it just once, multiple times), did he get caught by people other than Geno, what were the consequences (is Geno okay/not okay with this, does Sid do something to protect "his" child, does law enforcement get involved, etc.). Also for consideration: what about the child's/children's perspective(s)?
73. Sid and Geno have been fuckbuddies for over a year, except Geno thinks that they are in a relationship. Geno has spent the last month planning the perfect proposal only to find out on the big day that Sid is dating someone and wants to end their arrangement. Maybe Sid realizes his mistake and fixes it or maybe it's just too late for Sid and Geno.
74. "Hey, G, this is Chris", Sid says, and the man whose back Sid's palm is resting on reaches out for a handshake. He's almost Geno's height, with sandy hair, blue eyes and a warm smile. Geno's stomach does something it's never done before. He doesn't want to shake this guy's hand; he wants to tackle him to the ground and punch his lights out. Or: Geno, has a Revelation about his feelings for his captain. (G's relationship status can be anywhere from single to married with children depending on the level of angst/conflict/potential resolution)
75. Sid loves wearing makeup and girl's clothing/dresses. However he's scared of telling Geno, afraid that he might call him a freak or break up with him. When he does eventually tell him, Geno tries to be supportive but feels a little off about it. However during one particular game during the Flyers, Giroux or Simmonds says something incredibly offensive about Sid and it makes him feel extreme insecure about himself. After the game he's completely shut down and won't talk to anybody and actually starts throwing away his feminine clothing and makeup. Would Geno be able to push away his own feelings about it and tell his boyfriend he's beautiful no matter what, or would he just let Sid to whatever he wants and not let himself be who he is?
76. Sid and Geno have sex once when they're both really young and Sid isn't being dramatic when he says it's the best sex of his life. He figures the feeling was mutual and that at the very least him and Geno could continue to hook up. But afterwards Geno avoids him Anne is super distant and when Sid finally tries to talk to him Geno says "was bad sex don't want to think about it. Nothing else to say" and Sid is kind of devastated because that means HE Was so terrible in bed that Geno feels awkward about it. Cut to years later when it drunkenly happens again and Sid has been practicing for years to make sure he's perfect for Geno. Geno brushes it off again and Sid is like, no no no I know I'm good in bed why do you keep lying. And then Geno confesses that he wasn't ready to be in a mlm relationship when they first had sex and he's still unsure but he loves Sid and doesn't know what to do. Cut to feelings and getting together
77. One of them - let's face it probably Geno - does the grand public romantic gesture thing to woo Sid and, because RL appropriate behaviour is different from the stalker-level shit that gets romanticised by pop-culture, Sid is actually kind of unnerved and pressured and maybe even a little humiliated by how public it was and pretty unhappy about it. Basically they are in different genres, e.g. Geno is in a hollywood romcom and Sid is in an indie drama or psychological thriller :p ;).
78. Sid and Geno make a sex tape that ends up getting leaked. It doesn't show their faces and people don't really know it's them but the shock is enough to send Sid into a spiral of fear that people know that he's gay and that gen bottoms and basiclly internalized homophobia. G tries to comfort him but sid lashes out and they break up. Yadda yadda yadda hurt comfort no more sex tapes
79. Sid has to retire from hockey because of an injury and geno comforts him when he's crying about it. Super angsty and fluffy
80. Sid and Geno have a friends with benefits situation, but Sid, who was in love with Geno for a long time before they started hooking up, thinks they're getting serious. He doesn't know it but Geno is seeing Anna at this time, so when Geno mentions the 'person he's dating' to the team he's talking about her but Sid thinks he means him. He overhears Geno talking to someone like "do you think I should propose?" and gets very excited — until Geno introduces Anna to the team as his fiancee. He thinks he's been dumped but then Geno still approaches him for sex and Sid doesn't know how to say no. So Sid has an internal crisis because he's helping Geno cheat (if you want it can be revealed that Geno and Anna had an open relationship and Geno's just very bad at communicating that to Sid). But a part of him also wants Anna to find out, because then maybe she would break it off with Geno…
81. One of them was previously in an abusive relationship with another man, which the other doesn't know about because they were closeted at that time. They get triggered by something seemingly innocuous the other does, leading to explanations & hurt/comfort.
82. Anything following Sid's POV as Geno gets married and has kids.
83. Pining where they don't say anything because they both think the other is straight, and then a different guy on the team comes out (just to the room or publicly — your choice) and one of them winds up having sex with him, which the team finds out about. (Thin hotel walls?) So the other now knows he's not straight, but thinks he's in a relationship with the third person.
84. You don't stop loving something just because it's hard, Sid said. Well - what happens when it doesn't love you back?
85. One of the reason's Geno has been able to - sooner or later - shrug off those international losses and refocus, while playing on the same team as the avatar of Canada's success over Russia, has been his unshakeable belief always in next time, next time. With NHL players now firmly closed out of the Olympics, and Geno on the other side of 30, he's looking at that "next time" quite possibly being "never", and it's a hell of a hard hit.
86. Geno didn't actually want to leave Metallurg for the NHL; the bribe is Sid, in some kind of arranged-marriage/bond/etc situation. Perhaps Geno doesn't - ever? - know Sid's only in it out of obligation/responsibility.
87. Geno gets mugged, and it rocks his identity/self-image.
88. It turns out that while Sid's a good friend and a great captain, he's a terrible boyfriend. Geno worked so hard to get them here, and now he doesn't know what to do.
89. Their problems in the bedroom aren't staying there.
90. Pictures of Geno kissing a man in a gay bar are leaked somehow. It goes badly with both Russia and the Pens.
91. You know how there are the fics where one person has this kink they're all ashamed of, and then the other person helps them feel okay about it? I love those, a lot, but what if the reveal just didn't go well at ALL? Like, daddy-kink slips out and the reaction is flat-out shock, or they like a little feminisation or lacy knickers and their partner is just uncomfortable and embarrassed about it?
92. Insomnia as a concussion side-effect; they're hardly sharing a bed any more because of the restlessness.
93. One of them is having a hard time getting/keeping it up, or has a much-diminished sex drive (could even be set a few years in the future so it's an aging thing) and they have to figure out how important regular good sex is to the relationship. Maybe one of them decides it's not gonna work anymore.
94. Sid becomes paralyzed from the waist down in a bat hit gone wrong (the hit can be from the Flyers, Capitals, or whoever you want) and it shatters Sid completely, thinking he's never going to play hockey ever again. He starts to become severly depressed and starts lashing out at everybody, especially Geno, who's trying his hardest to be there for Sid. Both of them start to slowly become distant and they separate for a while, but Sid's depression gets worse and Geno is incredibly worried that Sid might do something to himself so he comes back. Cue to support from the Pens/NHL, angst and fluff, Sid and Geno getting back together and (hopefully?) Sid being able to start playing hockey again.
95. Sid and Geno are drafted by different teams (one is still a Penguin though, obviously). They first meet at World Juniors and realize they are "hockey perfect" late one night when they can't sleep and find each other practicing on the ice. Sid jokes that maybe they'll be together in the NHL but the draft doesn't work out. Geno comes over the same time as real life, and they meet again at the ASG in 2007 (get together then too). But it's Actually Serious that they're together. It's totally forbidden and both teammates/orgs/their families would be outraged. It's basically jeopardizing their careers bc they compete against each other, and it's Not Cool. Basically, Sid feels a ton of pressure to be the best, and Geno brings out his best on and off ice, but they can't be together. Obviously they sneak around when their teams meet and it's pretty reckless, but they are overwhelmed by each other. I just want forbidden love and Sid feeling pretty isolated/under a lot of pressure. Also, the Olympics is pretty much the best time of their lives, and there's a lot of sex bc of course.
96. they lose a child (can be their only child or not)
97. sid's pov with supercut by lorde (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yL0MtGXNFIk) as the jumping off point - maybe it's during their relationship, maybe it's after. up to you if they get a happy ending or not (and if that happy ending includes them together or not)
98. Person X is invited into Sid and Geno's recently-opened relationship, possibly with a view to them being more involved with one than the other. They're maybe younger, a little naive, but definitely super into the whole concept. Until they realise that actually, Geno and Sid are not the good stable relationship they thought, that they're kind of a hot mess, and that they're in danger of being turned into someone's emotional escape route.
99. Geno never left Russia, Sid comes over after the Pens fail to win a cup
100. Sid/Geno accidentally get outed
101. Sid is asexual (but not aromantic). He's in a relationship with Geno and Geno finds out after they've had copious amounts of sex. He's pissed Sid hadn't told him. Sid tries to explain that he doesn't particularly like sex but he doesn't mind doing it. Geno is not in any way mollified. Sid tells Geno he can sleep with other people if he wants to. Up to you where it goes from there.
102. After years of dancing around each other, they finally get together and it turns out they're sexually incompatible. One wants to compromise, the other doesn't see any viable option other than going their separate ways.
103. They get together. It doesn't work out. Now they have to work together every day and be on a team together and do promotions together and try not to leak feelings all over everyone in the immediate area. Spoiler: they do and it's ugly.
104. AU where something happens that leads to one of them getting traded
105. Post breakup fic- maybe they get back together? Maybe they just have sex and then realize it still can't work
AU Prompts
1. Sid and Taylor are orphans, they live with Mario after Sid was drafted. Cue Geno and his family trying to be a surrogate family to Sid & Taylor
2. One is a hockey star, the other is a reporter. The reporter spends a lot of time digging around, getting little details of the hockey star, writing a massive indepth story along the way and ends up falling a little bit in love. The hockey star resents the reporters invasion into his life and definitely does not feel the same.
3. AU where Sid and Ovechkin are royalty and betrothed in a purely political marriage, and while they are friend they’re not romantically interested in each other, and both alphas so no progeny will come from their union. As part of the arrangement, as their countries need an alliance, they’re gifted with an omega - Evgeni Malkin. Noble enough to be socialized as a gentlemen, but not high ranking enough to marry a prince himself, and as he’s Russian it’s determined that Sid should be the other father, to mix the bloodlines properly. However, at first Sid didn’t want a concubine, was fine in his loveless marriage with Ovechkin, at least until he saw Geno. So there is MAJOR MISCOMMUNICATION, where Geno thinks Sid is just doing this out of duty and not love and Sid thinks Geno doesn’t like him, even hates him.Geno goes into his first heat and is worried because the contraceptives he is secretly taking don’t work during heat and Sid can tell something is up so he doesn’t knot Geno and as a result Geno thinks he isn’t even worthy of Sid’s knot and MORE miscommunication and angst. And then there’s gossip about Geno’s lack of fertility, and oh no is it Sid? Which Geno can’t stand for, so he decides that he’ll get pregnant even though it’ll mean Sid never touches him again. And eventually he gets pregnant and then more stuff happens and then happy ending.(Feel free to change this and make it your own, obviously)
4. Age difference AU. Preferably with Geno being older and Sid being younger.
5. Apocalypse wow! When the world ends Sid is in Canada and Geno is in Russia but Sid isn't going to go out before he does the thing he's been psyching himself up to do for literally years, so he packs a bag and decides he's going to walk to Geno if he has to. I don't know what kind of apocalypse it is, maybe it's a super virus or a zombie kind. Either way, it's terrifying and sad and we follow Sid as he realizes not only might he never make it, but he might die alone and/or horribly, but also most of his friends are already dead, and he has way too much time to reflect on his life and what he did and didn't get to do. Bonus if it's open-ended, him trudging through snow, at the end of the road in Moscow, half-dead on his feet, gets to Geno's apartment, lifts a hand to knock, but we don't get to see the door open. We never see him die, either, but we can't know WE JUST CAN'T KNOW. (The emotional resolution is that he's come to terms with himself, just to be ultra lit-class about it)
6. Noir sidgeno au where sid is a hard boiled detective and geno is the femme fatale
7. Cold war spies.
8. A becomes a vampire and B has to console them because all A ever wanted was to have their own kids, but now that has all be ripped away from them, so B stays with them and holds them in their arms as A cries
9. period/fantasy au - sidney is royalty, and geno is not (or vice versa!)... after years of slowly falling in love with the castle's stablehand (aka geno), sidney's parents force him into a political/arranged marriage. sidney and geno still see each other, but when they are caught, because of laws or anything else hand-wavy, geno is meant to be executed.
10. One of them is haunted by the ghost of the other. Ending options: the ghost passes on after they resolve whatever it is they stayed around for, or they other figures out how to bring him back (cup magic could be useful here!)
11. Romeo and Juliet au - I guess it could be a flyers au, but I'd love to see a historical setting.
12. a bowerbird au where Sid collects all his trophies to seduce people with them. he doesn't actually care about winning just seduction. winning just happens to be the easiest way to seduce people, so he works it. Sid doesn't have time for losers, only winners, but his obsession with winners comes back to bite him. he's so focused on winning/seduction, that he doesn't realize it's destroying his relationships with those around him.
13. Sid and Geno are both omegas. They're only playing in the NHL because they're as good as they are. Falling in love with each other is a complication they don't need and also against all social mores.
14. Sid is an alpha and Geno is an omega. They both want each other, but Geno is already under intense scrutiny as the only omega (or one of the only omegas, if you'd prefer) in the NHL, and he doesn't want to get involved with an alpha. Angst ensues.
15. A wishbaby AU where wishbabies come from the Faerie realm, and you can only keep them for seven years. After the seven years are up, the child goes back to Faerie. But this is Sid and Geno, so they go into Faerie to find their child. They're successful, but it's the Faerie realm, and a price has to be paid. One of them has to stay behind for seven years to pay the debt. Twist: time moves differently in Faerie, and when the seven years are up, he comes home to find out that in the human world, seven times seven years have passed. Extra twist: once you've spent significant time in Faerie, you don't age the same way you normally would.
16. Either Sid or Geno wakes up as a girl one morning. This is a very unpleasant experience.
17. Sid and Geno have sex, and Geno gets pregnant. Geno is in love with Sid; Sid likes Geno but isn't in love with him. Geno wants to get rid of the baby (or adopt it out), but Sid wants to keep it, because he's always wanted kids, and even if he isn't in love with Geno, he's still going to be a father. (Sid falls for Geno too, eventually.)
18. Star Wars AU where Sid is a Senator and Geno is a Jedi around the fall of the Republic.
19. The one where their kid's swapped for a changeling
20. Time-travel trope, feel free to reverse the parties: a younger version of e.g. Geno shows up, and there is infidelity with older Sid. Older Geno does not take it well. Which maybe finally explains to Sid why, sometimes, Geno has seemed to get angry at Sid for no apparent reason, because he absolutely remembers this happening, and resents himself for not thinking it was a problem (because they're together in the future, right? so young, so stupid) and Sid for cheating on him, and himself for staying when he knows this is going to happen. Does he hope it won't? Does he just love Sid too much to not take every moment he can? Maybe they fix it with threesomes. Maybe they do not fix it.
21. One of them's infertile, and nothing available in the fertility industry does a damn thing to fix it.
22. Look, Cup magic isn't all it's cracked up to be, okay. Things can get... unpredictable. Unpleasant. Sid and Geno get off scott free the first two Cups, but it turns out all that wild magic was just biding its time until they won their third.
23. Geno grew up being bullied for being a werebear, and it's made him a defensive asshole about that part of his identity - very Do not Handle, Do not Touch. It takes him a long time to let Sid in.
24. girlSid didn't really have body issues (it was just a body, what mattered was what it could do) until Geno started dating Anna
25. Accidental pregnancy; whoever is pregnant eventually gets an abortion.
26. lady with the pet dog au! geno and sidney are both married and meet while away on vacation without their spouses. what begins is a passionate affair that starts as sex and infatuation but ends with a deeply rooted love. they both return to their homes only to find that they both live in the same city and must brave facing each other in their social circles without exposing their affair. bonus points if it's a period piece and if Geno feels the same guilt Dmitri felt at the end of the story.
27. GOT-esque AU. Geno is a bear-lord from the Kontinental kingdom of Drachma & Sid is a powerful mage from the North eastern part of Drachma, as well as Geno's most trusted advisor since they were teenagers. Geno became infertile (male speaking) after a witch cursed him for trying to bring both a dead child back to life using blood magic. He was severly devastated and has nightmares about deformed, monster-like children in place of the innocent ones he'll never have. He also takes his frustrations out on Sid, cruelly saying slurs about mages/witches whenever he tries to talk to him. Sid is hurt by these comments, but takes them in stride, knowing Geno is just upset. Years later, when they are in a relationship, they try for children and no infertility spells work, until Sid reveals that he himself was working on for years and they can finally have children to be the heir to Geno's kingdom. (Please let Sid be the pregnant one!)
28. Royalty AU. Sid is taking Geno to visit Sid's family and gifts him with jewels and other trinkets for him to wear. To Sid, these jewels represent not just their class system but are a sign showing extreme love and gratitude to consorts. However, to Geno, where he comes from, this is a sign of being something like that of a prostitute. So the more jewelry Sid decorates Geno with, the more Geno believes that Sid is just using him to be a bedwarmer. Geno becomes colder and more distant towards Sid, dressing himself up and acts like he IS a prostitute to Sid and his family's confusion. Sid snaps and finally confronts Geno about his feelings. SO MUCH MISUNDERSTANDINGS AND MISCOMMUNICATION!!!
29. Sid is so wrapped up in the hockey life that he never has time for dating, and when he does, it usually never works out well. So Flower, Tanger and Duper hire an escort who goes by the name of Zhenya as a "surprise" for Sid. Zhenya, whose real name is Evgeni "Geno" Malkin, escaped from Russia in search of a better life in America, but things didn't go through all that well. When he arrives at Sid's doorstep, Sid is of course angry but slowly gets over it once he sees how cute Zhenya is. A single one-night stand turns into more than what Sid bargains for. Zhenya is falling in love with Sid and sees him as more than a client, but Sid doesn't want to get attached for fear of getting hurt and distracted from hockey. Cue tons of angst, miscommunications, and (hopefully?) a happy ending.
30. College AU where they meet their sophomore year. Geno has a somewhat serious girlfriend but doesn't tell Sidney. Sidney finds out that he's "the other women" and confronts Geno about his cheating by breaking up with him. Sid ends up giving Geno the cold shoulder for months until finally Geno corners him after class and confesses to Sid that he had tried to breakup with the gf before but she wouldn't let him, he met Sid and instantly in love so he didn't even think of the girl he no longer like, he also broke up with the gf after Sid left him and has been trying to get back with Sid ever since
31. Both alphas. They have to find alternative partners during their rut/heat, because when they try with each other, violence overtakes sex - the first time it was pretty bad; the second time they tried to maul each other (they'd taken precautions e.g. back-ups who could separate them); they're not risking a third time. Coming back to your partner after marathon sex with someone else, knowing you can't ever have that with them.
32. Zombie apocalypse. Sid's been bitten, and he hides it just long enough to make sure Geno gets to safety.
33. Always a girl AU where they're playing in the NWHL or the CWHL, and they're on different teams.
34. Geno is cursed by a witch so he can get pregnant, but doesn't know it until he and Sid have sex. He always wanted kids, but not like this.
35. royalty/arranged marriage. modern or historical.
36. Sid is pregnant with Geno's baby, but manegment doesn't take it well
37. Teen pregnancy au
38. They get telepathically bonded for hockey. And end up hating each other.
39. their soulbond has broken - writer's choice as to why (suggestions: too many injuries, they have a fight and one of them has it broken intentionally, they spend too long too far apart)
40. Geno is an omega and the usual omega angst that goes with that ~
41. One of them from our universe falls into an a/b/o universe and doesn't get back, or vice versa. Maybe omega!Geno falls into our world, but is still an omega (which means he has to try to hide his heats with no medical support), or maybe he falls into our world but isn't an omega anymore. Body horror, xeno-type scenarios, mpreg... :D
42. The hockey gods require a lot of sacrifice to get to the level Sid and Geno are at; now they're asking either Sid or Geno for more than he's willing to give.
43. Soulmates in a doomed reincarnation cycle
44. Time loops
45. Geno is stuck in a time loop from the beginning of his career to the end. Think Magical Girl Madoka, Homura specifically.
46. One of them is deeply closeted falls into an AU where they got together sometime back. Twist: he never gets back to his own time, and meanwhile the other party figures it out and is mourning his "real" boyfriend.
47. Cup Magic happens after Sids day with the cup after winning back to back. Sid gets sent to Mario's house but in 1992. People are shocked at how this guy is built and how fast he is on the ice and how he won't shut up about hockey when Mario brings him to practice one day. Neither of them know why Sid was sent to the past and can't figure out what the lesson is but snippets of scenes between Sid and Geno show so much UST and hesitation. Sid seems to retreat even more because locker room talk is even more brutal (why are you so good? Steroids?? )and homophobic than it is now. Sid starts to become miserable and lonely and does confess to Mario about his feelings for Geno and Mario is shocked but kinda figures the way Sid talked about Geno and asks how gay people are treated in Sids time. After a while he realizes he could have Geno in his life if only he was a little braver. And he's so heartbroken he might have missed his chance and he does come back to his time. He talks to geno about what happened to him and Geno is so upset Sid has to go through all that alone. they do eventually live happily (please) ever after.

SQW Day 5 - Enough [Divorced Mommies]
My entry for day 5 of the Swan Queen Week, prompt “Divorced Mommies”. Usual disclaimer applies. It’s a non-magic AU where Henry is both Emma and Regina’s son :) Thanks for reading!
Emma has been tapping the table ever since they all sat down. It’s been precisely four minutes and 37 seconds – yes, Regina has been counting; she has nothing better to do after all, except maybe smooth nervously the hem of her dress. She’s spent a good fifteen minutes that morning figuring out what to wear, not having a single clue what outfit could be deemed appropriate for signing her and Emma’s divorce settlement. Regina feels panic rise in her chest at the thought: the moment they sign this paper, their marriage will officially be over, and everything from the past nine years will be all up in smoke. Regina had been perfectly fine with getting divorced, at first; after all, they were arguing all the time and she knew they couldn’t go on like this forever, especially for Henry’s sake. But now that it was so imminent, she is gripped by a numbing panic whenever she thinks about it.
She’s laid awake the entire night, dreading the moment her alarm would go off and she’d have to get on with her day. She had three things to do that morning: get herself ready, get Henry to school, get divorced, before going back to work that afternoon, picking Henry up from school and going on with their evening routine. It feels insane that she’ll have to go back to her daily life after such a life-changing event, as if getting divorced wasn’t more significant than picking up some dry cleaning. Regina feels like everyone is expecting her to be unphased by the divorce, since she and Emma had agreed to split up pretty amicably, when all Regina actually wants is to scream at the world that her life is pretty much ending and she’s not too sure what to do with herself now that she’s not Emma’s wife anymore. Her panic sets in and her breaths get more labored as she thinks back to all the time she’s spent being Emma’s girlfriend, then wife. Emma always used to tell her “You’re my everything”, and it used to fill Regina up with happiness and warmth. Now, all she feels is incredibly cold and lost. That’s when Regina notices her eyes are filled with tears, and she needs to calm herself down, so she does what she’s been doing whenever her upcoming divorce had been weighing her down: she goes through the list of reasons why getting divorced was for the best. First reason, they couldn’t keep arguing forever, and being both so stubborn, the only way to stop the fighting was to get away from each other. Second reason, they both deserved better than bitterness and harsh words, and they cared for each other too much not to want the very best for the other. Lastly and most importantly, Henry deserved to grow up in peace, and he would be much better growing up with divorced yet civil moms than with moms who couldn’t stand each other; they had to end it while they didn’t hate each other. It makes sense, and Regina has always done what made the most sense, so of course she getting divorced is the right thing to do, if only for Henry.
Thinking about Henry usually fills Regina up with pride and happiness: her little prince is her everything and she loves it with all she has. However, thinking about him in that precise moment, waiting for her and Emma’s lawyers to come in with the paper that will dissolve their family, is enough to bring tears to her eyes. All she can think is that she and Emma won’t be together when he’ll graduate high school and college, when he’ll get his driver’s license and his first girlfriend or boyfriend, when he’ll lose his first tooth or when he’ll score at a sports game. He will never again get to open his presents on Christmas with both his mothers there with him, and he will never again get family vacations with both his parents. Their life as a family of three will end in this room; they’ll have to figure out a new kind of together, and for the first time Regina feels incredibly guilty that her son, at the tender age of five, will have his whole life changed because his mothers couldn’t love each other enough.
A single tear rolls down Regina’s cheek as she thinks this.
Emma probably notices it, because she then tentatively takes Regina’s hand in hers.
“Are you okay?” Emma asks, and Regina is surprised to see all the anger of the past few months has completely vanished from her eyes. For a split second, she looks just like the Emma she fell in love with and who always looked at her so lovingly.
Regina shrugs miserably and squeezes Emma’s hand softly, not knowing how to put words on what she’s feeling without sounding ridiculous.
“I’m sorry, Emma. I’m just so sorry we couldn’t love each other enough to keep going. I’m sorry it has to end like this.”
Emma seems surprised, and that’s when Regina realizes it’s probably been ages since she’s last apologized for anything.
“Hey, ‘Gina, you have nothing to be sorry about. It’s not our fault. That’s just the way it is, and we’re doing what’s best, okay? It’s best for Henry. It’ll all work out in the end, don’t worry.” A thin smile played on Emma’s lips. “And you know all marriages that don’t end in a divorce end in death, so I think we’ve really dodged a bullet here.”
The ghost of a smile danced furtively on Regina’s lips, and she squeezed Emma’s hand one more, promising herself they’d find a way to be together in some way for Henry.
Five years later have passed when Regina allows herself to really think back to that moment. The divorce settlement had been signed minutes later, and she and Emma had gone their separate ways. Despite their promises to stick together to parent Henry, there’d soon been tension, and they’d started seeing each other as little as possible to avoid fighting. Slightly less than a year after their divorce, Emma had gotten a job offer in Boston and so she’d moved away, minimizing Henry’s tears and being completely oblivious to how deeply Henry’s pleads for Emma to take him with her had hurt Regina. Regina and Henry had managed to find a new balance together, and Henry had gone to see Emma in Boston when he didn’t have school. Emma had never set foot in Storybrooke again, and she’d found herself a new boyfriend, whom Regina hated and Henry wasn’t too fond of. Regina had dated someone new too, but she never could get too involved with him. Things had been decent until shortly after Henry’s ninth birthday, when he’d started resenting Regina and begging to move to Boston; he’d accused Regina of keeping him from his mother and Regina had cried herself to sleep after failing to make him understand that she had nothing to do with Emma moving and never visiting. The tension between mother and son had reached a climax that day: it was Emma’s birthday – Regina had remembered with a pang of guilt as she’d seen the calendar that morning – and Henry had run away from their house. Regina had been worried sick the entire day, until she’d gotten a phone call from Emma saying he was at her apartment and she’d drive him back to Storybrooke. So Regina paces the living room, impatiently waiting for Emma’s car to pull up.
As the clock in the living room strikes ten, Regina hears noise outside and, in the blink of an eye, she’s on her front porch. She runs to hug Henry with all her strength, but he shrugs her off and hurries past her towards the house. Emma is right behind him, looking more beautiful than Regina remembers her. They haven’t seen in each other in four months now, and they’ve only spoken briefly on the phone, so they awkwardly greet each other before Regina invites her in.
“It’s late, Emma, you shouldn’t drive back now. You can spend the night here. I’m sure Henry will be very happy about it; he’s missed you.”
“I know he has.” Emma shakes her head and runs a hand through her hair to let out her frustration. “He kept going on about wanting to stay with me, ‘Gina. I tried telling him you weren’t preventing me from seeing him, but for some reason he’s convinced otherwise.”
“He’s been… difficult, lately. He’s just so angry and I don’t know what to do. I feel like we’ve failed him. We got divorced so he wouldn’t turn bitter and angry, and it doesn’t look like it’s done him any good!” Regina can feel herself getting angry. She takes a few deep breaths to calm down. In the meanwhile, Emma has closed the gap between them and has pulled her into a hug. Regina tenses up; they haven’t been physically so close since their divorce, and feeling Emma’s body pressed against her, smelling Emma’s hair, feeling her breath against her skin is overwhelming.
They stay like this for a few moments, until Henry slams a door somewhere upstairs.
“You know, ‘Gina, I’ve been thinking lately… Remember when we got divorced, and you said we were doing it because we didn’t love each other enough to keep going?” Regina nods. “I think you were wrong. We didn’t get divorced because we didn’t love each other enough.”
“We didn’t?” Regina asks, surprised that Emma would start talking about it now.
“I think we just needed some time apart. I’ve always loved you more than just ‘enough’, ‘Gina. I still feel it today, after all this time apart. I know I needed time to figure out what was really important to me, and I’m sorry it took me so long to figure out it was you and Henry, together forever.”
Regina’s mouth drops open at Emma’s mouth. She tries to say something but nothing comes out.
“I’m sorry to be dropping all of this on you right now, but… I had to get it off my chest. I understand you’ve moved on, but…”
“Don’t.” Regina interrupts her. “Don’t try to back down now. Not when I want to tell you I want the same thing. At least, I want to try again.”
Emma’s smile as Regina speaks is brighter than the sun, and Regina can’t help but chuckle lightly. Emma pulls her ex-wife-now-turned-probable-girlfriend in another hug, and Regina lets herself go against her before pressing a soft kiss to her lips.

Everything Wrong and Right With Tales from the Resistance: Back to the 2nd Dimension
SINS:
1.Discount Lord of the rings opening
2.Obligatory sequel that isn't as good as the original .
3.”It doesn't mean anything, it's a made up language” You just pissed off the LOTR fans.
4.Why is it called “Tales” from it's not an anthology like that was would suggested? It's all one tale.
5.Previously on Across the 2nd dimension!
6.”Like all terrible things, it started with small minded people who became great” That sums up the current political situation.
7.Guess she lied when she said she'd think about spending time with Jeremy-2
8.Is Buford-2 really stupid enough to not tell a Squirrel from a Slug?
9.”What's this about the other shoe dropping” Haw haw/.
10.Lawrence didn't think to drag this stuff out soon after Doof-2 fell, it a month for it to be found by accident?
11.”We're gonna use these goods and play a game of sports” Again, haw.
12.With Doof-2 gone, who is Agent P-2 gonna fight?
13.”A pair of figure skates” Those are rollerblades
14.Carl and Irving are the only new 2nd dimension good guys we really meet and they get one small scene each. The one other new person almost makes up for it but still a sin.
15.This explanation almost works until Isabella-2 pretty much reveals she's been “busy” with nothing.
16.Okay, she's never heard of Ice Cream?!
17.Well, it's no picnic, or the same ants, but close enough.
18.Wait, does Peter-2 not live in Seattle, outside of the Tri State Area where Doof-2 and and Charlene-2 rule?
19.26? But there's more than one Agent P for example, with Pinky.
20.While she does let them, it's weird that she initially doesn't quite trust them even after all that happened.
21.Candace-2 didn't know Doof-2 had an Ex-wife?
22.Doof-2 hears them talking about a one way mirror, a mirror appears and he just checks himself out without being the least bit suspicious.
23.”Fava beans” NC is right, what's with all this kids media referencing Silence of the Lambs?
24.Doof using his butt is disturbing.
25.This bit with Vanessa asking about this guy reminds me, where's Monty in this dimension? He has to at least exists...right?
26.Honestly, it's not as Convoluted as they say. They needed a way for Charlene to be able to possibly break Doof out if he's arrested, so they pretend to be divorced. This actually makes sense, mostly.
27.Fun Fact, this song is done in the tune “Volunteer Firemen's Picnic”, which has been homaged before. You've heard it if you're a Family guy Fan because this is the “Freakin Fcc” song. Guess who directed that episode/. Guess.
28.Okay, her actual plan is actually convoluted.
29.I want to hear that song.
30.How did she bump into Ferb -2 and she make him into a Cyborg so fast while all this was going on.
31.Didn't he have a line earlier?
32.Well, Doof turning evil again was as fast as him turning good in the movie.
33.So Candace-2 is in jail miserable until Ferb-2 rescues her. Hmm, can't help but feel we've been here before...
34.Evil Doof-2 is somehow stupider than he was in the movie.
35.”Villain asks hero to team up with them” cliché.
36.Tony is voiced by Carl, so thus Vanessa-2 is dating Carl.
37.”Didn't I banish you?” You banned a lot of things but you got arrested so it's all allowed now. Come on doof.
38.Oh, they got away. Can't wait to see what happens nex-OH WAIT.
39.But seriously, this was made near the end of the show, so they knew it was coming to an end by this point, so what's with the cliffhanger?
40.That little sigh was enough for Irving to be listed in the credits.
EPISODE SIN TALLY: 40
SENTENCE: Loose your Choo Choo.
Yeah, expected that kind of sin count. Not the highest for this kind of ep, at least. So let's see those wins.
WINS:
1.Now this is unique and funny way to open the episode.
2.Cool title card
3.To quote Monogram, Nice Recap.
4.It makes sense that Candace-2 wouldn't be that used to this new life given she likely had to help get things back to normal and wouldn't quite have time to get her mind off things.
5.”-waiting for the other shoe to drop” Then Buford's shoe is gone. Nice.
6.Having a robot pet would be amazingget
7.Sports is cool, I guess.
8.We finally meet Carl-2!
9.While not as good as the other song in the episode, “Sports” is still enjoyable.
10.Irving-2!
11.A passable explanation for why Candace-2 and Jeremy- 2 haven't hung out, sort of.
12.This little action scene is cool
13.This alphabet gag is funny
14.I like the designs of the cyborg agents.
15.I like that Candace-2 lets them go after Phineas-2 rightfully points out they've proven they can handle themselves.
16.I love this twist. You think it's Vanessa-2 to make up for her being cut from the movie, but nope it's Charlene-2.
17.This little stealth scene is cool.
18.The Hannibal Lector bit is funny, as odd as it is.
19.The jingle singers learned Charlene's name!
20.We finally get the properly meet Vanessa-2.
21.I LOVE Charlene-2. Seriously, in the first dimension she's fine but here she's a total badass whose poses a good threat.
22.She's even smart, as their “Convoluted” plan is actually good thinking.
23.This song is really fun.
24.These guys are weirdly cute together.
25.Good lampshade hanging of the other convoluted side of the plan.
26.”I usually only say one line per day” Nice.
27.Charlene throwing away Choo Choo really shows how evil she is, and its great.
28.Candace-2's jail rant is funny
29.This little twist is nice.
30.”You're really on top of things here” Yes, yes she is.
31.Did I mention Charlene 2 is awesome?
32.The fake out with Vanessa is great.
33.While it sucks that we won't see a resolution (at least for awhile), this little cliffhanger is cool.
34.Candace-2 stepping down is a nice end to her Arc.
35.Oh, this final bit is cute.
36. Awesome song is shown again in the credits!
EPISODE WIN TALLY: 36
REWARD: Some time with Jeremy
Again, the win count I expected. I don't have a lot to say here except hopefully this makes up for skipping Klimpaloon Ultimatum in the wins. Tune in Wednesday for Giant Puppets and the Top Gear guys!

#27, Surah 4
THE QURAN READ-ALONG: DAY 27
That last wife-beating ayah was pretty heavy, I know. Fortunately, today’s section is less about how to discipline your disobedient wives and more about how disbelievers suck. It almost feels refreshing, doesn’t it? Surah four’s been pretty light on it so far, but the chapter is still young.
4:35 mentions a sort of Islamic marriage counseling via proxy, where, in the event that a man and his wife seem to be unhappy or headed for divorce, mediators from members of both of their families meet and decide whether this issue should result in the marriage continuing or being dissolved. Neutral enough (although in practice it often results in the woman being goaded into staying in an unhappy or unsafe situation tbh).
The next ayah is one of those verses, common throughout surah four, that is fine until you reach the very end:
And serve Allah. Ascribe no thing as partner unto Him. (Show) kindness unto parents, and unto near kindred, and orphans, and the needy, and unto the neighbour who is of kin (unto you) and the neighbour who is not of kin, and the fellow-traveller and the wayfarer and (the slaves) whom your right hands possess.
Well........ we’re just gonna ignore that whole “be nice to the human being you are enslaving” part and put this down as good with an asterisk. Anyway, the next ayah continues this train of thought, condemning greed, but then shifts into kuffar hell counter (1) territory without warning:
For disbelievers We prepare a shameful doom
So repetitive and we’re barely 500 ayat into the Quran. The next ayah is basically a rephrasing of this one, saying again that greedy people and those who “believe not in Allah nor the Last Day” are hellbound and friends of Satan. In contrast, 4:39 says that Muslims have nothing to fear from death, which is neutral on its own. 4:40 is even good on its own, saying that Allah rewards good deeds (of Muslims). You already know where this is going:
But how (will it be with them) when We bring of every people a witness, and We bring thee (O Muhammad) a witness against these? On that day those who disbelieved and disobeyed the messenger will wish that they were level with the ground, and they can hide no fact from Allah.
Allah sent Mohammed to judge the disbelievers, so follow Mohammed or suffer eternally to the point you’ll wish you were six feet under. Bad and another kuffar hell counter update (2).
4:43 tells Muslims that they can’t pray if they’ve been in contact with gross or icky things lately, like poop or their wife’s vagina. This is a reference to purification/ablution/whatever you wish to call it, which is accomplished with water. The full ablution is termed ghusl, while wudu is basically lesser ablution, ie washing less of your body. Tayamum is the term for ablution that can be done if you don’t have any water handy. The Quran barely mentions any of these things; their instructions are in the ahadith.
There are many reasons why one might need to purify oneself via one of the above methods. The reasons one needs to perform wudu are especially petty. Like........ passing gas. Lo! Allah loveth not those who smell of Taco Bell. Allah also does not want to hear your prayers if you’ve had sex, done some other sexual activity (including wet dreams!), or had your period without sufficiently cleansing yourself. You have to take this bath that has various steps first. Hope you don’t have any urgent prayers the moment your period stops!! (I should mention that the phrasing of this--if “ye have touched women”--causes some Islamic scholars to think you need to perform ablution if you’ve literally even touched a woman, so that’s cute.)
Now let’s talk about the disbelievers a bit. 4:44 reminds us, as we have been told many times before, that Jews are trying to lead Muslims astray. The next ayah names such people enemies. Don’t worry, Allah will deal with them. Bad.
Speaking of Jews, they suck.
Some of those who are Jews change words from their context and say: "We hear and disobey; hear thou as one who heareth not" and "Listen to us!" distorting with their tongues and slandering religion. If they had said: "We hear and we obey: hear thou, and look at us" it had been better for them, and more upright. But Allah hath cursed them for their disbelief, so they believe not, save a few.
Dumb Jews refuse to obey Mohammed, save a few. (We will talk about the, like, three converted Jewish guys who are “the few” in a little while.) They are cursed, as we have established 100 times by now. But remember this “we hear and disobey” thing? We were told Moses’ disbelieving followers said it, and now Mohammed’s contemporary Jews say it, too. Also, the “Listen to us!” thing was also in the second surah--Mohammed forbade his followers from saying it. Islamic scholars believed it involved some shifty wordplay on the Jews’ part, but no one could ever figure out what wordplay.
The following verse is also talking about Jews, and note that Mo’s already piss-poor attitude towards them is worsening with time:
O ye unto whom the Scripture hath been given! Believe in what We have revealed confirming that which ye possess, before We destroy countenances so as to confound them, or curse them as We cursed the Sabbath-breakers (of old time). The commandment of Allah is always executed.
Literally “obey me or else”. Nice! This section is horrible and extremely bad so far! The curse in question, if you recall, is that Allah turned the Sabbath-breakers into apes and pigs. Strap in because the whole remainder of this section is fucking terrible. First of all, polytheists? Sinners.
Lo! Allah forgiveth not that a partner should be ascribed unto Him. He forgiveth (all) save that to whom He will. Whoso ascribeth partners to Allah, he hath indeed invented a tremendous sin.
Note that the threat of hellfire is only implied but not stated here, so I am kindly not including it in the counter. It is still bad, though!
4:49 mocks those (Jews) who claim to be pure (not that Mohammed would ever try to do such a thing, no sir!), which is neutral on its own. Those people tell lies about Allah and are thus sinners. Hmm... I think I get it, Mohammed, but can you be a little more specific? Sure, he says:
Hast thou not seen those unto whom a portion of the Scripture hath been given, how they believe in idols and false deities, and how they say of those (idolaters) who disbelieve: "These are more rightly guided than those who believe"?
Ah. What, exactly, Mohammed was referring to is debated but everyone agrees that it has to do with venerating objects (not “worshiping” them, not that Mohammed could tell the difference) and superstition. Al-Wahidi has a story about the Jews praying to Meccan idols which is probably bullshit. Anyway, Mohammed says it’s bad and people who do it are cursed and will have no helpers.
His rant about The Jews continues in 4:53-55, saying that they are greedy and envious of Allah blessing Muslims. They shouldn’t be jealous, he says, because the Jews were already blessed a long time ago via Abraham--at least those who followed his commands. “And of them were (some) who believed therein and of them were (some) who turned away from it. Hell is sufficient for (their) burning”. Also:
Lo! Those who disbelieve Our revelations, We shall expose them to the Fire. As often as their skins are consumed We shall exchange them for fresh skins that they may taste the torment.
Ah, finally an unambiguous kuffar hell counter (3) update. Torturing disbelievers eternally, the way of Islam.
That seems like a good place to end.
NEXT TIME: More of this, I am sorry to say.
The Quran Read-Along: Day 27
Ayat: 22
Good: 2 (4:36*, 4:40)
Neutral: 5 (4:35, 4:39, 4:43, 4:49-50)

Kuffar hell counter: 3 (4:37-38, 4:42, 4:55-56)

via Politics – FiveThirtyEight
Women officially won the right to vote just a few months before the 1920 presidential election, and as soon as the 19th Amendment was ratified, suffragists were predicting a sea change in American politics. One activist even proclaimed that “the women’s vote is going to be a tremendous factor in this election.”
And that did happen, eventually. In the century since women’s suffrage, women have transformed our politics — in particular, they’ve become a force to be reckoned with inside the Democratic Party. Of course, many women — especially white women — still vote Republican, but in election after election, it is the Democratic Party that has added more women to its ranks.
It was a “women’s wave,” after all, that swept Democrats into the House in 2018, including a record number of female Democratic lawmakers. And this week, Democrats will officially nominate Sen. Kamala Harris as their vice presidential candidate, just the fourth woman to ever be on a major party’s presidential ticket.
But it took a surprisingly long time for women to become the electoral force that suffragists predicted. After the passage of the amendment, women were not broadly mobilized, and in many places, women of color continued to face barriers to voting. This meant that the first women to vote were largely white, wealthy or living in states that made it easier for women to vote. It wasn’t until 1980, for instance, that equal shares of men and women cast a ballot. That was also the first election where there was an observable gender gap in the presidential vote.1 According to exit polls, that year less than half (47 percent) of women voted for Ronald Reagan compared to 55 percent of men. And since then, the gap has largely expanded, with women becoming an increasingly large and influential base for Democratic candidates.
“It’s a pretty stunning effect,” said Elizabeth U. Cascio, an economist at Dartmouth and the co-author of a recent paper on the gender gap. In her research, she and colleague Na’ama Shenhav gathered voter turnout data in presidential elections, finding women went from being 10 percentage points less likely to vote than men in the 1940s to being about 4 points more likely to vote in 2016. At the same time, she added, women became increasingly likely to identify as Democrats, compared to men.
So what happened to make women turn out at a higher rate than men — and stick with the Democrats while many men have abandoned the party for the Republicans?
The first question is easier to answer. It took several decades for women to vote at the same rate as men, but once they did, they actually became more engaged voters. Now, it’s routine for women to turn out at substantially higher rates than men.
“It’s a story of generational replacement and change,” said Christina Wolbrecht, a political science professor at the University of Notre Dame and the co-author of “A Century of Votes for Women: American Elections Since Suffrage.” Before 1920, women hadn’t just been denied the right to vote — they had also been told over and over that voting and politics were for men. Reliable data about women’s voting patterns in the 1920s and 1930s is scarce, but according to Wolbrecht, some women in the years after suffrage never stopped believing that voting simply wasn’t their job.
That wasn’t how later generations of women saw the world, though. To most women born in the mid-20th century, voting seemed like an entirely natural thing to do. By the 1980s, it was so natural, in fact, that women were consistently voting at higher rates than men. That shift was driven in part by Black women: Despite facing systemic barriers to voting through the mid-1960s, they turned out at rates similar to white men — and only slightly lower than white women — by the mid-1990s.
But that story of generational replacement doesn’t explain why women became an increasingly important fixture of the Democratic base, starting with the 1980 election. Before that year, men’s and women’s voting patterns looked pretty similar — they voted at almost exactly equal rates for the Republican and Democratic candidates in the 1972 and 1976 presidential elections, for instance. That’s why it was so shocking when in 1980, an 8-point gender gap emerged between the share of men and women who voted for Reagan, with 55 percent of men backing him but just 47 percent of women.
So what happened? Simply put, prior to 1980, it hadn’t been as clear which party was more naturally aligned with most women’s views on policy issues. But in that election cycle, the Republican Party took a sharp right turn on a number of issues that mattered to women, including issues like spending on the social safety net, the environment, and the role of government. (The GOP also opposed the Equal Rights Amendment for the first time that year in its party platform.) And while a majority of men, who had been increasingly drawn toward the Republicans as the Democrats grew more liberal on issues of race, ended up in Reagan’s column, a majority of women did not.
As the parties became more and more polarized over the next few decades, this gap grew larger too, as women and men’s political allegiances continued to drift apart. “The issues that women tend to care about have largely been embraced by the Democratic Party,” Cascio said.
Other factors may have also helped drive this shift. For starters, several experts told us, women were increasingly likely to join the workforce, particularly in public sector jobs like teaching, which may have reinforced their support for a robust government safety net. At the same time, rising divorce rates, declining marriage rates and changing eligibility requirements for social welfare programs like Medicaid made many women more dependent on government support, which may have also drawn them to the Democratic Party, the party increasingly branded as supportive of big government. And according to a 2017 study, single women are more likely than married women to see themselves as connected to other women, which in turn predicts a more liberal ideology, especially for white and Latina women. (Black women tend to be liberal regardless of their marital status.)
Black women’s support for Democratic candidates was also a crucial part of this shift. “Black women have consistently and strongly supported the Democratic Party for decades now,” said Chaya Crowder, a political science professor at Loyola Marymount University. But that’s not because the Democrats have done a particularly good job of engaging with Black women, or worked to win their votes. Instead, according to research by Crowder and her co-authors, Black women are especially likely to see voting itself as an important and urgent act. One reason they’ve continued to vote Democratic, despite the party’s long history of lackluster outreach, is that their policy goals are almost always more aligned with those of the Democrats.
Over the past few years, there’s evidence of yet another crucial shift in women’s political allegiances too: More white women are moving toward the Democratic Party. The gender gap in 2018 was the largest in at least two decades, for instance, with a bigger share of white women voting for Democrats than in 2016.
This year, that trend could accelerate even further, thanks to President Trump’s presence on the ballot, the COVID-19 pandemic and the Black Lives Matter protests continuing to unfold around the country. According to an analysis of likely voters in Democracy Fund + UCLA Nationscape surveys conducted from July 23 through August 12, women are much likelier to support Biden over Trump, while men are fairly evenly divided between the two candidates. Biden is also slightly ahead of Trump among white women — which is noteworthy, because a majority of white women supported Trump in 2016.
There’s a big gender gap for Biden — and Trump
Share of male and female likely voters who are supporting Biden and Trump, according to surveys conducted July 23-Aug. 12
Biden Trump race Female Male margin Female Male margin Asian/Pacific Islander 67.3% 62.0% +5.3 24.7% 30.7% -5.9 Black 86.8 76.9 +10.0 6.5 16.7 -10.2 Hispanic 57.8 58.0 -0.2 31.1 35.8 -4.7 White 49.3 40.7 +8.6 45.0 54.7 -9.7 All 56.8 47.9 +8.8 36.3 46.8 -10.5

Of course, we’re still several months away from the election, and these numbers could change. But even before the pandemic hit, Trump’s lagging support among women sparked speculation that Republicans face a tough road with female voters. For instance, Trump’s favorability among women overall is very low, according to the Nationscape data. Of likely voters, only 37 percent of women said they had a favorable view of the president, while 56 percent said they have a favorable view of Biden. Likely male voters, on the other hand, tend to have a rosier view of Trump — 46 percent of men said they have a favorable view of the president — and a less positive impression of Biden. Just 51 percent of men said they had a favorable view of Biden.
Additionally, several experts told us that there are good reasons to believe that Biden is on track to see record high support among women, including white women. Mary-Kate Lizotte, a political science professor at Augusta University who studies the gender gap, told us that for many women, the fallout from the pandemic could underscore their support for a strong government safety net and draw them toward Biden. Faced with school closures and a historically high unemployment rate, Lizotte said, many women could feel especially inclined to support a party that promises significant government support. Meanwhile, Erin Cassese, a political science professor at the University of Delaware, said that with Harris on the ballot, sexism is likely to be a prominent issue, as it was in 2016 — which could help widen the gender gap even further.
The Black Lives Matter protests could also galvanize more women to turn out for Biden, according to Lizotte and Crowder, because women have been active in the protests and tend to score lower in racial resentment — a widely used measure in political science to capture racist attitudes — and tend to have more liberal perspectives on issues around race.
One big question, though, is whether women will turn out at high rates this year, with their kids out of school and the ordinary rhythms of life and work in disarray. Lizotte said she thinks it’s possible that these barriers might deter some women from voting.
But it’s even likelier, she said, that women might be more motivated than usual to turn out. “These issues are so personal and so dramatic and so likely to affect women,” she said. “Some of those people who haven’t been consistent voters might feel like it’s actually worth their time.”
And if that happens, women will do a lot to determine the fate of the 2020 election, just a few months into their second century of suffrage.

95. Have you ever been suspended, expelled, or dropped out of school? + -- I dropped out. After spending ages taking all these makeup classes on top of my regular studies, I had my counselor tell me to my face that I'd be good to go to graduate. And two weeks after school ended, I received a phone call telling me that no, I would not be graduating and that, if I wanted to, I'd have to pay them either $200 or $300 for either summer school or night school. I couldn't afford that, so I just didn't go back and acquired my GED, which was easier and I didn't have to study for it. :/
T – Temptation
96. Have you ever done something wrong, knowing it was wrong, because something inside of you said it was okay? + -- I mean... it's possible?

99. Did you ever want to do something sexual with someone you didn’t really know or love? What did you end up doing? + -- Not really. I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with this, but my brain doesn't make the jump to "this person looks nice" to "I want to have sex with them" for some reason.
100. Do you give in to temptation easily, or are you more independent and strong willed? + -- In the middle. When it comes to junk food I'm more weak-willed, but other things not so much.

108. What is something you value not because it cost a lot, but because it means a lot to you? + -- As far as regular material items, probably the little Stain merch I have. For anything else, it's my husband.

W – Wishes
111. If you had three wishes, what would they be? + -- I dunno. Is there a genie involved? I don't like the idea of someone being enslaved to serve me, so that's out the window. I wouldn't feel right just wishing something out of thin air like that.
112. Would you rather wish yourself to be happy, or your loved ones? + -- Loved ones.
113. Do you believe that wishes come true if you really believe in them? + -- Just go out and do it man. If you sit around wishing you'll just wish your life away.
114. Have you ever had a wish come true? If so, what was that wish? + -- It only "came true" because I forced something to change. I made the necessary sacrifices to make it come true. Nothing more, nothing less.
115. Do you find wishing for things a waste of time because everything that’s meant to happen, will happen? + -- I think it's important to believe in something. But I also believe it's important to actually reach out to make them happen too. It's not just going to drop into your lap.
Y – You
121. Are you more independent or social? + -- Independent.

124. Do you think people are born a certain way, or develop their personalities based on what they go through in life? + -- Genes definitely play an impact on a person's mentality and whatnot, but the environment ultimately shapes that.
125. Do you think people are generally good ? + -- "Good" and "evil" feel like really convenient terms to me nowadays. I think people believe that a) they are the hero of their own story, and that b) most people have "good" intentions. Unfortunately, good intentions do not a good person make.
Z – Zest
126. Are you currently happy with your life? Why or why not? + -- No. It's not where I want to be yet.
