Episode 1: Aerys' Dad Dies

We open on the body of King Jaehaerys II, lying in state at the Sept of Baelor. There’s a silent congregation standing around him, and closest of all his children, Aerys and Rhaella. Between them stands their young son, Rhaegar

At the King’s council as they discuss next steps from here. Right now, Aerys seems faintly charming, albeit with a jagged edge. There’s mention of Rhaella’s new pregnancy, and a fear that the distress of losing their father might cause her ill health. Everyone wants the transition to Aerys’ rule to be smooth as possible, so he must choose a Hand asap. His council have ideas; Aerys has one of his own 🦁

We are introduced to Tywin Lannister, travelling in a golden coach (obvs) to King’s Landing. With him are Joanna and their year-old twins. Tywin looks pleased with himself; Joanna notes he’s not Hand yet, but Tywin has no doubt he will be

The Lannisters are greeted jovially by Aerys, who is a little too familiar with Joanna, making her, Tywin and Rhaella equally uncomfortable. Aerys is introduced to the Lannister twins (inadvertantly meeting his own future murderer - 🚨 kill bill sirens 🚨 ), and welcomes all. Generally just appears a bit too upbeat for a funeral, because as a human being he is just fundamentally Off

The funeral: burning Jaehaerys’ body in a ‘manmade pyre’. Aerys mumbles they used to have dragons for this, the implication being that there’s something faintly undignified about this for a Targaryen. Rhaella weeps, and Rhaegar stares hard into the flames because he is a weird 👏 kid 👏

Rhaella and Joanna take a walk through the gardens of the Red Keep. Rhaella implies having noticed Aerys’ behaviour towards her, and that she has noticed it before. Joanna quietly asserts that she does not invite it. Rhaella says she knows - Aerys is like that

Aerys and Tywin meet for post-funeral drinks in Aerys’ solar. Aerys comments that he finds Rhaegar kind of strange and bookish, and believes he has too much of his mother in him. More generally, we see both the familiar and the fractious in how Aerys and Tywin engage, and have some sense of the two being childhood friends (insofar as either of these men even know what a friend is ❤️). Aerys offers the position of Hand to Tywin. Tywin plays a little hard to get, but ultimately agrees. A rare Tywin smile is witnessed x

The coronation: Targ aesthetic dialled up to eleven, because I imagine the more insecure Targaryen kings would cling to it in the absence of dragons. Aerys passes the dragon skulls on his way to the throne (some heavy-handed visual foreshadowing by urs truly xo). Watching on are the heads of the greathouses and their young scions: Aerys death stands all about him in the room, even if he doesn’t know it yet. Rhaella too receives a crown, and somehow doesn’t looked thrilled about it

Final scene sees Rhaegar sitting crosslegged on the floor of his bedchamber with a book and a candle, singing a Valyrian song to himself - the words are not translated

I wonder what happened to the disabled people who joined The Sharing. Like it’s advertised as this all inclusive afterschool activity. So surely some physically or mentally disabled people must have joined right? And we know the yeerks consider disabled people to be useless and defective (or maybe ax was just projecting). So what happened to them?

I just keep thinking about how it would be absolutely hilarious that the first people to find out/know about Eddie and Steve dating is Gareth and Wayne. Because Eddie shares everything with those two, like the minute he accepts the date with Steve? They know. (Modern AU: Eddie immediately texts them in a group chat or if it’s still the 80s, he sprints to the phone and calls them)

Wayne doesn’t give a shovel talk, takes him about two minutes with Steve to see how serious he is about a relationship with Eddie. He also promises that their home is a safe place. Gareth on the other hand it takes three dates and a month later for him to see the same. (Gave the shovel talk the day after Steddie’s first date)

Now Steve’s friends? They know last and are just so surprised that Steve managed to keep it a secret. Not that he was ashamed or embarrassed, the guy just wanted this to be his. Robin is 100% annoyed that her platonic soulmate kept this away from her, until she sees the two of them together and then does she realize how suffocating they are as a couple. Dustin is absolutely furious that he didn’t know and didn’t see it happening. Like how did he not know this? He spends a ridiculous amount of time with the both of them and never noticed. (After an hour of just watching the two, he berates himself because they so obvious when they’re comfortable)

Gareth is the type of person to be that asshole that rubs things in others faces. When Steddie officially tells everyone about their relationship, Gareth tells them, “ha, I knew first!” Then proceeds to tell them how cheesy Steve is when it comes to Eddie and how Eddie can make Steve a blushing mess.

Chapitre 194 - The Tone That Calls The Princess

Ohoho look, we have the matching pair of [redacted]s!

How perfect that they were exactly identical outfits, and yet (like Fujitaka and Nadeshiko in the previous chapter) are Together but Separate.

They’re here together, near each other, but visually separated, and with physical distance between them - Lava Lamp stands in front and to the left, Watanuki sits behind and above, on the right. You could cleanly cut the image in half and they wouldn’t cross over at all (except the TINIEST bit in the middle). They also both stand facing different directions; Watanuki looking to the right (to the past? It’s what he can’t remember), while Lava Lamp faces the left (to the future? It’s his entire mission, and has been for a very long time). Except Watanuki actually LOOKS in his direction (he’s not aware of the greater plot) but Lava Lamp is looking directly at the camera, like he tends to (he IS aware, and still knows far more than us). Above them both is the moon (A sign for Yuuko? A sign for their mother? A sign for where they came from? A sign for the mysterious darkness they live their lives in?)

Meanwhile they sit on a GIANT AMMONITE FOSSIL. Which. Is the strangest thing to me and I love it dearly. It might have some symbolism I’m not aware of but even just on the surface level we have a lot. It’s a fossil, like the Clow ruins, like the archaeology that ties Syaoran to Fujitaka, like a clear link to an unknowable past. But it’s also a spiral - a sign of things going in circles and spirals and repeating themselves, like time loops, and Lava Lamp’s life in general, and whatever else is happening in the timeline. 

Maybe also a sign of things starting at a central point and spiralling further and further away from where it all started, like the plot we’re trying to make sense of?

Or maybe it’s a sign for what’s inside it? A shell that contained a creature within, like the ruins might contain Evil Wolverine?

I’m also googling it now to find out that they can be a symbol of “change and positive motion”, which is very much what Lava Lamp and Watanuki are collectively trying to achieve, so it all fits one way or the other!

i think that viewing the little hope relationships as just ‘family’ ( specifically : blood family, ones with traditional roles and relationships, one bred from a nuclear familial structure ) has a habit of dismissing them entirely. it is not blood that binds them together, nor is it family structures, and throughout every iteration of their lives things change. sometimes they’re merely neighbors with a slim portion of blood relation, sometimes they’re bound by flimsy paper or war, and sometimes they’re students at a college following their professor around. the nature of their relationships change, as do their circumstances and surroundings, but they ( as a mismatched unit ) are eternally bound and divided by a child and an inherent, unescapable tragedy. the important aspect of their relationships is that they are agonized individuals who are stuck together and wouldn’t like to be. the important theme between them is that despite their determined suffering, all the bad ways they clash, and in spite of a bubbling self loathing so awful that it literally kills them, they have found love and comfort in each other anyway, or perhaps have realized a love that has always been there. there’s no ‘i love you as a daughter’ between angela and taylor, just as much as there isn’t any ‘i love you as a sibling’ between dennis and tanya. they just love each other. even the clarke family, arguably the most familial bond they have, still isn’t traditional. none of them are blood and all of them are strangers inside their own home. they don’t look alike and they don’t share dna and they typically don’t care for the facade of a family either, more content to treat each other like roommates at best, and that’s fascinating because why would they care? why would standard labels matter to souls as ancient as theirs? it’s just another flesh they adorn, it’s just another pain they’ll carry and shape and hate. idk! i just think forcing titles on it all is rather boring in nature, and actively hinders the genuine relationships there, in an attempt to have a rulebook of sorts to follow. i also just loathe how the found family trope is constantly turned into a literal family, when it was made to spit in the face of a nuclear family structure. but that’s just me <3

i love the egg child part of the qsmp so much i just need to put it into words. it’s such a smart idea for how to make sure the server stays active — it’s not an activity requirement, but if you don’t take care of your egg, it will die. theoretically, you could just let your egg die and you can let someone else take care of it when you aren’t free to join. but people fall in love with their little pixel children and then they WANT to be active, it’s not an obligation they have to fill but something their consistently excited to do.

and having the parents be an english streamer and a spanish streamer is such a good way to make sure they all interact with each other across the language barrier. sure, there is some in-game translation to make things easier, but they also end up talking on discord to coordinate childcare and in the screenshots we’ve seen i think it’s so interesting how they’ll often speak the other person’s language rather than just picking one to both use or only using their own. co-parenting also gives them the basis for building up strong and unique relationships between the streamers themselves and their qsmp characters, which would’ve been much harder to develop without being given a starting point given the language barrier.

it’s just so clear how much thought quackity has put into this server and it’s so fun to watch everyone fall in love with their little egg children
