Chapitre 194 - The Tone That Calls The Princess

Ohoho look, we have the matching pair of [redacted]s!

How perfect that they were exactly identical outfits, and yet (like Fujitaka and Nadeshiko in the previous chapter) are Together but Separate.

They’re here together, near each other, but visually separated, and with physical distance between them - Lava Lamp stands in front and to the left, Watanuki sits behind and above, on the right. You could cleanly cut the image in half and they wouldn’t cross over at all (except the TINIEST bit in the middle). They also both stand facing different directions; Watanuki looking to the right (to the past? It’s what he can’t remember), while Lava Lamp faces the left (to the future? It’s his entire mission, and has been for a very long time). Except Watanuki actually LOOKS in his direction (he’s not aware of the greater plot) but Lava Lamp is looking directly at the camera, like he tends to (he IS aware, and still knows far more than us). Above them both is the moon (A sign for Yuuko? A sign for their mother? A sign for where they came from? A sign for the mysterious darkness they live their lives in?)

Meanwhile they sit on a GIANT AMMONITE FOSSIL. Which. Is the strangest thing to me and I love it dearly. It might have some symbolism I’m not aware of but even just on the surface level we have a lot. It’s a fossil, like the Clow ruins, like the archaeology that ties Syaoran to Fujitaka, like a clear link to an unknowable past. But it’s also a spiral - a sign of things going in circles and spirals and repeating themselves, like time loops, and Lava Lamp’s life in general, and whatever else is happening in the timeline. 

Maybe also a sign of things starting at a central point and spiralling further and further away from where it all started, like the plot we’re trying to make sense of?

Or maybe it’s a sign for what’s inside it? A shell that contained a creature within, like the ruins might contain Evil Wolverine?

I’m also googling it now to find out that they can be a symbol of “change and positive motion”, which is very much what Lava Lamp and Watanuki are collectively trying to achieve, so it all fits one way or the other!

Strangely my files don't reveal if this one had any splash text across the image though, which is a mystery all on its own.

it actually needs to be studied how little i care about the zodiac academy characters. because usually i am naturally more drawn to characters and plot lines from longer series which makes sense because thinking about it logically, you spend far more time with those characters than with those in standalones or shorter series. its sort of of like comparing tv shows to movies, you might like them both, but youre going to spend more time thinking about the characters you watched the most screen time of (this is almost certainly why i have horrible addicted series brainrot that only multiplies each time i reread it. the time i’ve spent with those characters compared to others is off the charts)

now i won’t pretend to know off the top of my head how long this series was and i don’t really care to check i just know that it’s around 8-10 books probably and after this i am about to log that i finished this book and then NEVER think about these characters again im so sincere they will never cross my mind. the fact that i even got reminded that the last book released was a fluke i genuinely might have never remembered to circle back to it and im not sad about that but its just SO UNUSUAL to read this many books about a group of characters and walk away not feeling at all changed by them or feeling any connection whatsoever. and that is the truest testament to how poorly written this series was. goodbye and goodnight. see you NEVER zodiac academy 🫡 (🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳)

Fylgja: does your muse believe in fate? A higher power of any kind? 

Well, that's hard to say, honestly! O5-13, who I don't know terribly well, says and does things that imply that something is at play to some degree, but I certainly don't know enough about that to say. The Pataphysics Department existing also indicates this, I think. No one really likes talking with them very much. Since O5-10 is awake again, I did ask zem for input, and ze was surprisingly calm about it. You'll see what I mean. Here's what se had to say, transcribed verbatim:

Considering Thirteen, or, rather, what's wrong with xem, there is definitely something along those lines, though I lack a lot of context to understand things fully. Thirteen experiences his life in a fascinating way. His experience of time is nonlinear, I understand it to be that he is experiencing all of the events he knows about simultaneously, but I believe I am at least somewhat mistaken on that. It is not uncommon for ser to mix up tenses at times. Se will sometimes address those se is speaking to in ways that only become appropriate at a later point in time or that have not been appropriate in years. Se sometimes makes vague statements about things that will come to pass. These statements have never been wrong to my knowledge. Maybe they have and I either never knew or am forgetting. There are future events that se admits se cannot see or predict, as well as occasions where se knows something will happen, but the details are unclear, such as ser warning me I would die from overwork before questioning if that would actually be me or a different O5-10. Se has knowledge of things he was not present for and should not know about, including private thoughts that were never spoken or written in any way. The only thing remotely approaching an explanation I can recall ser ever sharing is the occasional offhand remark about whether or not things have been "written," though I could not say what that means. I also remember him saying something implying he has felt forced to take certain actions in order to ensure certain outcomes, that he already knows about, occur later on. Again, I could not say what, exactly, this means. The last potentially relevant thing that Thirteen does is that he will occasionally stop what xe is doing to address some unseen entities, displaying varying affects as xe does so. I have never tried to question it. I do not know if "fate" is the best word for whatever is being dealt with, here, but I do think "higher power" fits the bill well enough. Mind, I do not understand this very well at all. Some of the Elevens seem to understand what is going on to some degree, though I doubt anyone could get a straight answer there. O5verthinking's Thirteen operates very similarly, as far as I am aware, but I do not know if ze would be very forthcoming, either, and it seems it would be rather rude to ask zem about it.

I will say that before I worked here, my beliefs were different, but now I do work here, and those beliefs have been altered. I apologize that this answer is very long as well as very unclear, but the question of fate and higher powers are very complicated by nature, and our experiences make those beliefs even more complicated.

I hope this is clear enough to make at least some sense.

Went to a workshop on how to write the literature rescue for my thesis and now my stress levels are through the roof. I already feel so behind.

We had a useless year phd student who has done, as far as I can tell, absolutely nothing for the last two years while also constantly increasing my workload by skipping out on her own admin commitments and dealing group meetings. As a result I’ve had to spend the last two months (where I should have been at home recording from covid) at work doing including and training for four new masters students and one new PhD student because it turns out she literally does not know anything about our field. She could not show an undergrad first year how to use our software to do an entry level task. She cannot answer questions like “what are you studying and how are you studying it?”

I’m very tired and I feel extremely behind because I’ve been doing this shit instead of my PhD, and I’m only just now starting to figure out exactly how much I should have already been doing.

I hate her and I’m so fucking glad she quit. Enjoy failing your second year milestone because you decided to spend two years fucking around and ignoring every single piece of actionable feedback we gave you.

yuuji is a sweetheart inside out and sukuna is the quieter one between the two, sukuna is soft for his brother though so don't get fooled by his tough persona

yuuji is usually a romance lead or 2nd lead and a slice-of-life guy so when fans found out he will be in an action show, they are excited!

sukuna on the other hand has been casted as a tsundere in romance shows, sometimes a bully and an antagonist in action shows, but a villain that is literally so powerful??? that is so new so his fans are anticipating 

both of them usually arrive on the set together (sukuna is the one driving btw and yuuji just sleeps during the trip)

unlike his brother, before acting, he doesn't really know a lot of fighting stance (he's a marketing major ffs lol) BUT ever since he was casted, he doubled up on his working out routine with the help of sukuna

even invested his time learning boxing which later on paid soooo much

can literally make everyone on set "aww" whenever his script requires him so cry or even witness a gruesome death scene *cough* nanami and nobara *cough*

during breaks, him and nobara do tiktok challenges and even those kpop challenges all the time and the crew enjoys watching them do it and the fans like it too

this guy literally has 3 older brothers who are protective of him it's so cute

this man is so talented, he can cook, sing, dance, act, and is pretty smart too during his university days, it's so hard not to be in love with him

I understand the quick progress of the story. Since it's a game and all. But can you please give us few lines on how the story would have played out if the events where extended. Like in a slow burn novel or a long show?

My demisexuality as will as the logical side of me are nagging me to change the current story time line. I love your work and that is exactly why I want to know how you would have written it!

✦゜ANSWERED: I've talked about this before, but realistically, it'd take quite a few years for Ren to grow comfortable enough to reveal his true self (a.k.a [REDACTED]). I think the same thing can be said about 14DWY; Ren would likely spend a couple of months just hanging out with Angel, getting to know them better, and forming a genuine bond with them. It might even take him a year or two, and by that point, Ren would probably have an entirely new persona/personality again.

But for the sake of brevity and video game timeline constraints, I have to take a few creative liberties with the passage of time lol

Also, I think the current demo feels very slow burn-y as well ^^; I mean... As of Day 3, Angel still isn't very receptive to Ren's feelings lmao T_T And because Angel doesn't have any recollection of their childhood, they have no idea that Ren has been pining over them for over 13 years.
