Peter runs away a lot. It started as something dangerous, boarding a bus to take him far far away, so nobody has to watch him scout which rooftops he could jump off without causing too much inconvenience. Back then, the bus was just a means to the destination.

But Tony Stark caught up to Peter the first time, made sure he ended up home safe. And when Peter tried again, Stark stopped him before he cleared the city.

And slowly, Peter starts associating bus rides with a return from a dark place. The bus is where he goes, when he’s spiraling and he needs something to take him back to his own mind. He’s not trying to go far anymore. The bus itself is the destination. It calms him. And Tony always knows something’s wrong when Peter takes the bus unnecessarily. If he can, he joins Peter. He’s just glad that the kid found a healthy coping mechanism, even if it is to ride a bus for hours at a time, going nowhere. Some of the city bus drivers started recognizing Peter, after a while.

But that was a long time ago. Peter still rides the bus, when he feels bad. When he needs help. Just now, there isn’t a mentor to join him. The bus drivers don’t recognize him anymore. Nobody recognizes him anymore. And nobody notices the guy in a hoodie, slowly bleeding out in the back of the bus, who climbed aboard in the faint hope that the bus would heal him, the way it always used to.

He has a feeling it might not work out that way, this time.

trying not to talk too much abt the bear s2 but im Really fuckin frustrated that even with everyone demanding that they’re sooo media literate and sooo smart that no one has talked about claire and the way she sparks audience discomfort. like, she feels out of place within the show because CARMY cannot accept that he is getting this good thing—she feels out of place in HIS life. she’s actually crafted to be the ideal girlfriend, with glowy bokeh lighting in a grocery store and beauty shot close ups and a sweet instrumental leitmotif to show to you, an audience member, that she’s too good to be true in carmys eyes. if you’re an audience member, she raises alarm bells in YOUR head because she raises alarm bells in HIS. he literally tells us that—that’s the crux of his final monologue, that he doesn’t believe he can have the life of food and wines best chef and a life of love and human connection. he doesn’t believe he’s deserving of good things because his family has always been so fucked, because nothing he’s ever tried to hold together has held together—except for his cooking. it’s done this way on purpose, to make you feel that anxiety that he feels around this relationship, and to make you question why you feel it too

What if we were both magic prodigies and it otherized us in different ways and we devoted ourselves to protecting a family member who has general other goals & priorities. What if we both did self-sacrifical devotion in opposite ways.

What if we were dark mirrors of each other and where I've grown overcontrolling you've grown complacent. They’re both so out of it 😭 It’s the weirdly intense and unearned mutual trust and reliance on each other?? They’re each other’s weird little comfort codependent teddy bear. Or at least they were headed towards that before SHE DIED THEN HE DIED THEN THEY BOTH FORGOT ABOUT EACH OTHER AND NEVER MET EVER AGAIN. Though she’s also the guard attack hound keeping him safe… And vice versa he heals her and can rewrite her very being with just one wave of his hand. They’re both so so mentally and physically vulnerable both but they cling onto each other. They can’t perceive things accurately but despite it all someway somehow they stumble into something closer to resembling companionship just before they both die. Falin is just that kind and Thistle is just that lonely. Overworked. We both haven’t lived for ourselves in a very long time, haven’t we.

They both have a similar devotion to the people they love but again the difference is that Thistle starts overtsepping while Falin is self-effacing. The other difference between them is that people care about Falin <3 People have given up on Thistle long ago, and he has given people reasons to, while people refuse to give up on Falin. Yaad has a mini arc about it dw about it it’s ok he’s not all alone in the end 😭😭 He reached out for Marcille’s hand but they already all wanted to help him, they just had to be given the chance to, Yaad just had to be given the chance to, it’s okay I’m okay

I started this back in February, but it’s been very on and off working on it due to life stuff lol. But I finally finished, so even though I’m not totally happy with it, I am glad I was able to finish it despite everything! Might redraw/expand the idea sometime, because I do like how silly it is, but for now here is this :]

Also extra info on what’s going on in the drawing itself! Donnie keeps score, here April and Raph are going over the current scores with him. Meanwhile, Mikey and Leo are having a match, and despite Leo’s attempts, Mikey is focused on winning lol (also the other Xs and Os are there, they’re just blocked by Mikey and I got too lazy to draw them).

you know how basketball players do those little conferences where they sit in front of a mic and let reporters/journalists ask them questions???? that but with pro hero Bakugou and his barely one year old baby. he walked in with his full hero gear, save for his gauntlets bc it’s hard to hold baby with them on, and he doesn’t want her to mess with it!!

and when he sits, he holds her up against his chest, her little chubby arms grabbing at the hair on his nape and tugging on his bottom lip bc she finds it so funny. he just lets her, answers the questions like there isn’t a baby trying to dig up his nose and gnaw on his cheek, leaving a trail of spittle in its wake.

she babbles on and on, her eyes lighting up in surprise when she turns to the mic and hears herself. Bakugou can’t help but laugh though, leans down to nibble on her fat little cheeks, forgets to compose himself when everyone starts snapping pictures. a reporter steps up and asks her, “Baby Dynamight, who’s the best ranking hero of this year?” and she answers, babbling a little, turning and looking at Bakugou with a gummy grin and two little teeth sprouting at the bottom as she giggles a, dada daaaa dadada!

also the baby of the group that everyone passes around. Bakugou hates giving her up to anybody, but she will twist her little body around until he damn near drops her whenever she sees Uncle Kiri sitting beside them. she stands on his thighs and tugs at his hair, then goes to Uncle Denki where she slaps at his cheeks bc he makes funny noises and faces whenever she does. Uncle Sero is next, where he bounces her on his knee before Aunt Mina swoops in to give her some nice girl gossip. Uncle Deku is always last, only because everyone knows baby will be out like a light whenever she’s in his arms and cuddled up against his chest. Bakugou is furious every time, but also a little grateful that the shitnerd was able to put his little gremlin to sleep with his boring ass face.

literally the easiest way to make someone care about a character and make them feel well-rounded beyond basic traits like personality, sexuality, ethnicity, etc, is to give them an actual character arc, and it’s shocking how many people do not seem to fully realize this

you cannot just cram a bunch of tropes. tropes are not the main event, they are tools to tell the story you wish to tell. emotional impact comes from the lead up, so you can’t just jump ahead and expect the payoff to work. “I want this character to just ___ already!” but they’re not there yet. that’s where the arc comes in - how do they get there?

and! most importantly, and this is something I really want people to think about when writing - the most important relationship your character should have, always, is with the world and society around them. defining your character purely through their interactions with other characters are, I find, how a lot of female characters end up feeling flat or not engaging with the themes as much as the male characters, and also how queer and non-white characters wind up as devices for other characters’ development instead of being more fleshed out

remus/nagini

imagine a disheveled and dehumanised woman with fake high society values and aesthetics meeting a beat up, mourning and over educated long limbed man. they are outcast for outcast, beastly in a tasteless way.

now imagine they meet in the liminal space after they’ve lost their lovers. nagini carries her masters soul with her and remus carries sirius’ guilt. they are untethered and unruly. unwashed hair, empty stomachs and uncleaned rooms. the people who accepted them for their monstrousness are gone and they are wild again.

they live sporadically together in remus’ dilapidated berlin apartment. nagini stays with the carrows in their wind swept seaside cottage and in the lestrange manor on the the dust coated floor of the attic.

nagini was purposely never given a formal education to keep her “animalistic” and remus is an overeducated aspiring teacher. they sit at his tea stained, chipped table learning basic charms and muggle east asian history together. nagini makes perfect tea and buys him ornamental coasters to drink on while studying.

they sit together in his cracked bath in lukewarm yellow water together for hours. nagini shampoos his hair and laughs when he shakes his head like a dog.

there’s something so simple to their love. they are similar and accepted in a way they never have been before. all the love they give to each other is a gift and they know it. it’s rare to be seen and loved when your soulmates has left you but here they are! demure, vicious beasts sitting side by side eating unbuttered toast.
