I have a lot to explore about shadownilla hashtag Actually Exploring their Toxic Yaoi Aura until it breaks my heart brain into three pieces.

the simple (not) summary: they’re both so fucking odd about each other in a weird tango that is very much one sided by SMC’s whims, but through pv’s psychological torture it approaches to a weird understanding of him and recognizing how he’s a reflection of him. No One but him can understand shadow milk cookie, he states, despite it all. Like PV that blue gay jester just put u through mental prison and psych warfare on ur core beliefs and emotions and u decide to befriend him at the end of it. SMC so badly wanted someone like him, to mold someone to see through his eyes, messing w PV’s memories, his threats over the main gang, both being a tether and a hostage over PV. Like the newest imagery of them makes it very clear SMC caused a ton of pain and agony to PV to the point of stripping him down to despair (vulnerable like a child if that makes sense). The pain is still fresh, but he still decides to embrace who SMC is and believe in him. Grandpa I want to break down ur brain. Why the Fuck. There’s def more about What PV saw about SMC to even think of extending a hand besides his very empathetic and sympathetic nature but it hurts my brain so I’ll break that down in my own time.

SMC is a lonely and i think importantly Very Unstable to the point of being sadistic, and I don’t know what’s going to happen to the Beasts after? But if somehow he doesn’t end up dead or trapped in that tree again I rllllly want these too to hash it out Stranger Style. As in a weird back and forth. I don’t want him to experience remorse immediately I need that cat yowling the whole way as his own core beliefs get fundamentally broken down and examined by PV, like a parallel to SMC’s tower if that make sense. The tango is now equal handed, and acceptance strangles him entirely. He’s desperate and sadistic and there’s implications that his belief in deceit was built upon eons of seeing pain that knowledge and truth caused to himself and others. So, in an almost protective manner (kind of like mystic flour!) he reasons that Deceit is the fundamental of how the world Should run, even his whole identity. And then PV stretches his wings and takes steps away from him, turns around, and opens his arms. It’s strangling. It’s awful. Hypocrisy.

(There’s a few gaps here unlike MF and BS directly showing their past self so I may have misunderstood this, but regardless. I think we’ll get more of this guy so hopefully more clarity is given)

I think my favorite back and forth between them was truthless recluse deciding to break the rules in SMC’s game. I can’t pinpoint why, but I want these two to TALK. TALK MORE. GET WEIRD ABOUT IT. I need SMC’s glee at molding someone he believes to be Someone like him, someone on HIS side, HIS. meanwhile truthless recluse is decaying, in despair, and wilted, yet countering SMC’s beliefs ever so lightly it rises an air of uncertainty, which SMC quickly tries to shut down heavily with his own “games”. I need them in a weird back and forth sometimes. Awakened PV , still wounded, but taking the first steps forward of reinforcing his beliefs and charging ahead towards truth in acceptance of doubt and fear. Shadow Milk Cookie gnashed and deeply betrayed about his failed mold, the leeway of considering having a “friend” already kicking the first rock on the already rocky and teetering tower. it’s awesome give me 1000000 more of these guys.

Wow yeah, apart from the prices literally same. I guess that's the equestrian reality for you 🤷🏼‍♀️ I used to get private lessons with loaned horses often when I was young for a short time, it looked like I could get into competition, but for some reason beyond what I knew I never got to it.

But honestly knowing how school horses get treated, if I did own a horse I'd never let them use it. I used to be so sad when I saw horses being ridden for 4-6 lessons in an afternoon and then learn that they had the same amount of lessons in the morning in summer camps. And at one stable summer camps were every other week. For the whole summer. The horses were dead by the time I got to ride them, so eventually I stopped going on those weeks.

It was insane to see when I was around 18 and I started going to this new stable, the lessons were good, the horses were a joy to ride, and I actually got good jumping lessons for a reasonable price. But in just a few years it turned into such a money maker. I got assigned the difficult horses because I was one of the most experienced of those taking lessons on school horses. It genuinely felt like at times that I was paying to be retraining the difficult horses who got bored of the school work and acted out. I enjoyed the challenge sometimes but yeah, I didn't pay for that.

It's nice to talk about this, funny how it's the same even when we live that far apart. I always bitch to my friend about this too but her experience was drastically different, she's had her own horse since 2011, and I never did. And I don't think she ever took part in a school lesson since either.

At that yard, I don’t think they’d let you take the school horses off the premises for competition so you could only use them for competitions at our yard.

To be fair to the yard I was at, the ponies didn’t get used much during the week because anyone small to ride them was at school lol but they had set times they could schedule him for lessons on weekends.

School holidays were the worst though because they’d have “pony camps” where they’d use the ponies the whole week and unless you booked your own pony for pony camp it was pretty awkward. But it was 5 days of morning and afternoon sessions and considering I was there every day after school I just didn’t wanna, almost none of the kids who had ponies did it so I didn’t know anyone on the camps either. But if they used your pony for pony camp, another kid was essentially borrowing them for the week, if that makes sense. Like they had lessons on the same pony all week and did grooming exercises as well so you’d be at the yard and there’d be another kid grooming your pony and you’re like…can I have him back I have a lesson (because we’d take our lessons when they were having lunch break or something). Oh it was so weirdddd (maybe it wasn’t even weird and I just deeped it too much because I was a kid). And then this poor pony has been poked and prodded all day and is just too unbothered to be doing anything. My dad used to bitch at them every holiday for signing him up for those and eventually they stopped letting people book him for the whole week but if you had a schoolmaster pony you were in the shit.

The horse mismatch thing was wild though I totally get you. There were definitely people they used to just exercise horses that they couldn’t palm off on less experienced people. Like if you watched an advanced group I remember you’d see them give them all the horses that anyone who knew the yard knew people avoided them like the plague 😂 and they were horses that even the owners need spurs to ride and they’d throw kids on there and then yell at them like it’s their fault they’re not horse whisperers meanwhile we all know the horse is unhinged.

Lol horse people are all the same regardless of nation, clearly 😂 it’s a universal culture.

I totally get you, once I moved to a full livery yard it was so different, every lesson was private and you would normally bring in your own teacher, everyone had their own set up and it was a much more focused vibe. But riding at a riding school is a whole different thing

I feel like that one didn’t get a whole lot of attention, which is a shame, because I worked freaking hard on it. I see it as one of the best fics I’ve posted, actually!

Hmm… I’d say the ones that talk about the characters as opposed to my actual writing.

Don’t get me wrong, I love any and all comments and will cherish them… but the ones that talk about the characters are just more fun for me! For example, stuff like “it’s so like him to do this thing” or “it was so cute when he did that!”. Stuff like that!

I guess I like them because it kinda feels like, when I write, the characters are in charge; I’m just the one tasked with documenting them. And when comments talk about the characters, and what the characters do/say… I don’t know, it’s just more fun :)

Ok I want to start this off by saying that I don’t usually like romance books. And by that I mean it’s my least favorite genre, so this book is already outside of my comfort zone. However, in the romance books I HAVE read, I am able to look at it and go “Okay. This was a good book. It’s not my thing but it was pretty well-done. I can se why other people would be compelled by it.” There are also some romance books that I have actually liked. This was not either of those.

1. The book was just so…unoriginal. I feel like I’ve seen this story laid out hundreds of times. Everything was so predictable and bland. And I understand to an extent that that’s the point—the book is called Better Than The Movies after all, so it should show some resemblance to movies, but there was nothing that made the story its own. Literally everything—the best friend getting mad at the fmc, the guy who she doesn’t like anymore asking her out, the random mean girl—you could replace the characters with literally anyone with no monumental impact because they’re not written as characters, they’re written as roles. Where is the flavor?? I just feel like I’ve read this story before.

2. Adding onto that, Liz’s entire personality is that she likes romcoms and misses her mom. And I GET that, losing a parent is tragic, especially at such a young age, so it make sense on why she would latch on to the thing that connected her with her mother. But other than that…what is there? And then in the second book, there is a full 180. Suddenly she hates romcoms and would rather watch football, and people call her “one of the guys” multiple times. It doesn’t feel like there is a real concrete basis of who she is.

3. This is a personal thing but Wes is Just A Guy. What is so special about him. I genuinely do not get it. He plays basketball. And baseball. Wow. I’m so intrigued. This is so unique. Fascinating. (Picture me with that Gilmore Girls clip “he’s just a man, Lorelai” lmao)

4. Why was Wes’s dad suddenly so important in the second book?? (Granted, I never finished the second book and just dropped it after Liz fucking BROKE INTO Wes’s house in the middle of the night so I could be missing some context) But. I think the closet you get to seeing him in the first book is he is in his car. And then it the second book he is suddenly dead?? And his whole personality just comes out of nowhere?? I mean. At least his mother appeared in the first book, and his sister was mentioned at least a few times. Why should the reader care about Wes’s father? Who is he to us? From a writer/author standpoint, it was just a bad move.

5. Adding on to point 4, let’s bffr, the author pulled the plot of the second book out of her ass. It’s only there to make money. It was so unnecessary and even my irl friend who likes the book didn’t like the sequel.

6. This is a small thing (no it’s not) but why is EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER WHITE. The only character who wasn’t was Joss, and would you look at that, she’s the Best Friend. How many romcoms have the main character’s best friend be the only colored character. I can name 10 off the top of my head. And I was hoping in the second book that would change, as we are now in college, with a chance to add more diverse characters, but NO. Still all White. Not even one colored character. (This is extra bizarre considering the university they’re at is literally UCLA, which is VERY diverse). It’s just fucking annoying.

7. Why was Wes so fucking WEIRDDDD in the second book. I’ve seen some of the low reviews say he describes Liz as a “mythological sex goddess” in the second book and that’s…get a job and stay away from her. Also according to some of the other reviews the way he confesses again in the second book is “I’m fucking obsessed with your mouth, Bauxbam” (is that how you spell her last name? Idk I listened to the audiobooks) WHAT IS THIS DIALOGUEEE. He’s just so…ugh in the second book.

8. Apparently in the second book they try to push a romance between Liz’s friend Clark (college junior, so 20-21) and Wes’s little sister Sarah (explicitly stated by Wes to not be 18 yet). He also needs to GET A JOB AND STAY AWAY FROM HERRR. Unfortunately, his job requires her to be near her. At least by friend told me that don’t end up together. God bless for that.

9. Just me hating but why is Conan Gray referenced. Free that man from this mess by favorite singer is NOT being dragged in.

This is all I have for now. Perhaps I will come with more later but uh. Yeah. I really don’t like this book and I don’t understand why it gets so much hype.

(However the audiobook narrators ATE DOWN so hard. They were amazing but I still can’t believe they pulled Charlie Bushnell into this shitshow)

- movie nights are law. after scar and mumbo learned that grian has never seen the childhood classic movies they have decided to make grian watch every single one

- mumbo made milkshakes once and discovered that they’re grian’s favorite drink

- huh, scar and mumbo’s clothes are going missing? weirdddd (don’t look in grian’s closet, he has them)

- grian and mumbo get scar a ton of ties, and in return grian and scar get mumbo a ton of ties

- scar did manage to salvage grian’s dirty red sweater. he also bought him new ones. in fact, he bought grian an entire wardrobe

- mumbo and grian read together a lot. grian will either curl up against mumbo or on mumbo with his book. he normally falls asleep there

- scar is always the last one to go to bed, and the second he crawls into bed with grian and mumbo he’s surrounded by arms and blankets and many snuggles

- grian has nightmares a lot. sometimes he calls out someone’s name in his sleep. and he sounds so sad… pleading for them to come back. when he wakes up he’s being held by either scar or mumbo (depends on how bad the nightmare was) and being gently rocked while he holds one of their hands
