It just bums me out how much of SW fandom clearly doesn’t appreciate the levels of magnificent bastardy that Palpatine achieved as a villain when they bitch about so much being the Jedi Order’s fault. As if the Jedi should have just looked harder under some couch cushions and then they would have found the solid evidence they could use to go after him and the Senate.
Palpatine was too smart for that! No Sith lord had ever aimed so high and achieved so much, and he only did it by playing a long game that started before Anakin was even born. People have to understand that when Dooku tells Obi-Wan that a Sith controls the Senate, that’s hard for him to believe because it is absolutely ridiculous and hard to believe! The Jedi don’t understand why the dark side clouds their awareness because the Sith have become masterful at hiding their presence, which was not the case throughout known history. It would truly be like hearing that Biden’s administration actually are all Satanists who traffic and eat children. Palpatine’s extremely powerful and cunning and unlike anything they’re used to dealing with, otherwise they might seriously consider that Sidious could have accomplished this without the Jedi having any idea. And where do you even begin investigating such a thing when it’s been covered up so well?
The Jedi were always gonna be outmatched against someone like Sidious because a Sith’s whole thing is amassing wealth, influence, and power, and Sidious was probably the best there ever was at it. The Jedi are the opposite, they’re not meant to have those things, and Sidious ended up with too much control of the government for them to have any real power to act. (Probably even if they had complete knowledge of everything, which they never did.) It makes sense that just a couple Sith can bring “imbalance” to the Force when you consider that the use of the dark side is inherently an imbalance of power and a destructive influence in the world this way.
You don’t have to scapegoat anyone else. Palpatine needed his apprentice and other pawns to move around but he really did almost all of it himself. He worked so hard and deserves the hate for his efforts, he really was that bad. :(

The other guys ref has finally been done and oh boy, he’s a whole other case!
Meet Esther! Esther Hills!
Tumblr media
Once was an ordinary ninja, now a fallen one. “A even BETTER Ninja!!”
This guy has been through ALOT in the past ever since his first day as a ninja and now is currently like….well, this. Don’t worry tho, he’s not actually evil! He’s still himself!….Just like way more confident! And brave and…..destructive.
The reason why his normal form seems completely normal is because he currently rarely takes off his mask and suit completely anymore in the present so you wouldn’t ever really be able to actually see him in only his normal clothes with those strange red eyes-
You’re probably wondering right now what in the actual fuck happened to this guy, it’s all kinda explained more in his backstory but that’s a story for another day. For now, have some info about him!
———————-
-Esther is the exact same height as Randy, the same age too! Is also a high school student just like him and Howard!….well, WAS a high school student.
-Esther, back then, was the shy guy type, kind of an introvert who wouldn’t even be brave enough to ask somebody out or start any normal conversation without fumbling and jumbling his words at first. He wasn’t really the type of boy you would call ‘manly’, being more into stuff a few bullies called him ‘girly’ for such as cooking and knitting.
Like a lot of people though, he was also a ninja fan! He too thought the hero was cool! Little did he know he would end up becoming just like the hero… unfortunately, as you can obviously tell, it didn’t end well for him.
the current Esther you see right now, the one with the crazy red eyes and sharp teeth, is the complete opposite. He’s no longer shy and more energetic than ever, TOO energetic in fact. He’s also quite brash, thinking that now with this new power of his, he truly is stronger than his ‘weak, old, baby self’ ever was.
-speaking of power, Esther has new kind of powers that he sure does love having right now and wished he had sooner. And it’s all because of those strange ‘gems’/‘diamonds’ he has on his back (which you can see there on his ref), sorry, I meant that he has IN his back. They’re literally impaled into his back! Does it hurt him? Not anymore..
it’s unknown what exactly they are, their origins and why they even seem to have a certain, familiar symbol on them.. but they’re the reason why he has those red eyes, the marks under them and the sharp shark like teeth in the first place, they even seem to be effecting his ninja suit! They have changed him a lot, making him almost turn into a manic. Thankfully, there’s one part of him they haven’t changed: the heart of a hero! Just like his old self, he still wants to save people, help them, be the very good hero he was supposed to be! Unfortunately, his ‘heroic’ actions cause more harm than good.. he’s too stubborn and oblivious to notice this too.
-Esther always floats a bit off the ground, he always has this red aura around him because of it. He rarely gets down on his feet and walks nowadays, finding floating and flying around to be more fun.
-Esther seems to always have his mask up with his whole face showing now, that’s because he feels more comfortable with it being that way. He currently isn’t really in the town right now so he won’t really have to worry about his identity being exposed, he will put his mask back fully on if a stranger ever happens to come by tho.
-his voice has a echo to it, almost demonic like.
-the boy, with the way he currently is now, is staying in some mysterious dark and deep cave with toms of crystals here and there inside. It’s the exact same place where he got those red gems on his back in the first place, so he pretty much thinks he should stay in there more in order to get more ‘power’….
Does he still have a family back in Norrisville? Yes, do they know that one of their children is a ninja and now slowly becoming this beast? No. All they know is that he has mysteriously disappeared one day and has been gone since. They had put lots of missing posters around but sadly haven’t been noticed, those same posters just got covered up by other ones up till the point they are completely unnoticeable and just ignored by everybody for months and months…
Until one day….
Tumblr media
—————-
And that’s it! Thank god I’m finally done with this guy too! I may not have written as much about him as I kinda did with my other ocs but yeah, there’s more to him than just this! I just don’t feel like writing more rn.
Hope y’all at least like him!

Hi! I suddenly very invested in the shinsherry ship dynamic, of course I have my own ideas and hc. Do you fancy the dynamic? If it is a yes, do you have some sorts of hc for them?
Pd: I am still working on in this shinsherry fic so I need a bost of energy.
Oh my, idk if I’m the best person to ask tbh since I tend to write shinshi and CoAi exclusively compared to other dynamics. The closest I’ve come is probably Don’t Blame Me. I won’t be much help, but I do agree we need more of it in the fandom! It needs to be explored! I’m hopeful you’ll be able to share your fic with us!
Idk if it’s cause I’m a Gemini, but as much as I believe Sherry to be a part of her. It’s more of a persona to me, so underneath it all she’s still Shiho. Just forced to be this character that she never wanted to be out of survival. So when I do dabble with her being more of a bad girl, that’s the approach I go for.
Sherry is all snark, sass, confident, and cutthroat who takes no shit. She’s not allowed to be weak, she fights back and isn’t above playing dirty. At least on the outside this is how she appears to be, but at the end of the day she’s soft and does actually own a heart. Shinichi I think sees this side of her despite her best efforts to pretend she’s pure evil. Though at first he’s definitely tricked into thinking she’s just bad news, but him with his savior complex wants to rescue her. Thus begins their interesting relationship
The more he tries to get close to her, the harder she pushes him away. But in the grand scheme of things they’re both after the same goal, so she helps him bring the org down. She’s a traitor anyway, may as well play the part to the fullest. She expects to be locked away to atone for her sins, but Shinichi has other ideas.
I’m basically retelling my own fic, but I think the most important thing to me is that Sherry is in charge and she gets to decide how close he gets to her. She’s the one with the experience and she knows what she wants and what she’s willing to give him and what she wants to take from him. As time goes on he gains more control and tries to defy her, but she’s one step ahead every time. My queen stays winning!
The second but equally as important thing to me is the devotion on his part. She has a bad reputation and yet he’s still willing to throw everything away for her. It’s like everyone on the outside is telling him she’s bad news but he’s still getting burned just for a chance to love her. Basically he’s down bad for her as he should be.
My girl is a bluffer and mostly all talk, but fuck around and find out. She’s ruthless in her own ways and won’t hesitate to play into her role, self destructive and insane but she’s just passionate okay.
This dynamic is honestly very intriguing, it’s all a game and not meant to be real. So very flirty and fun with very serious consequences but they’re not going to worry about that. It’s almost a break/relief when they’re together which doesn’t make sense cause everything they do is very high stakes and people’s lives are in danger but I think the risk is part of what gets them. It’s very push and pull, will they or won’t they? The almost, and pure frustration but also satisfying at the same time? They shouldn’t make sense, but they do. They made opposites attract, the tension is very real.
She’s cool, calm, and collected while he’s the exact opposite until they settle into their routine and he has no choice but to be just as cool about how casual their relationship is. Not that it’s much of a relationship, cause no labels. She teaches him patience cause he’s way too damn impulsive, and the consequences of his actions. He takes her teachings to heart.
He’s left in the dark a lot and he hates it but again he doesn’t have much of a choice cause she won’t give him the answers. There’s a lot of trust on his part, she doesn’t tell him anything, she has to trust him too but she definitely holds back just in case since she’s paranoid and she is still trying to protect him.
I’ve rambled too much and I don’t think I even made sense. But I think it depends on the setting too. Cause I have other ideas if she is for real riding for the org. There’s a lot to their dynamic but the tldr version is: Sherry is more dominant and Shinichi is hopelessly intrigued. Best of luck to you, Love! Happy writing! <3

Yin and Yang: Book 1.03
Tumblr media
Balance is a key aspect in the world, so why shouldn’t the Avatar have an opposite?
In a world where Raava and Vaatu merge with humans, the Avatar and the Daimon try to keep the peace between the four nations.
Aang and Hua are the current incarnations, but wake up 100 years in the future.
How will these two learn all four elements in one year and defeat the Fire Lord?
Tumblr media
Book 1.03: The Southern Air Temple
Water.
Earth.
Fire.
Air.
Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony.
Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar and Daimon, masters of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed them most, they vanished.
A hundred years passed, and my brother and I discovered the new Avatar and Daimon, an airbender named Aang and an earthbender named Hua.
And although his airbending and her earthbending skills are great they have a lot to learn before they’re ready to save anyone.
But I believe Aang and Hua can save the world.
Tumblr media
A few days had passed since Aang and Hua were broken free from the iceberg, which had been their prison for 100 of years.
Together with the water tribe siblings Katara and Sokka the Avatar and Daimon had begun their journey to master all four elements to end the long war the Fire Nation had started.
The first main goal was to reach the North Pole to find a waterbend master.
However, it didn’t mean they couldn’t make some stops.
Aang and Hua had been gone from the world for so long, anything had changed, they needed to see and learn how to move in this new world.
Also, they had important things to check.
So their first stop was the Southern Air Temple, Aang's birthplace, to look for other airbenders and maybe find out what had happened.
The quartetett one flying bison and a Kyuubi had camped yesterday on this tiny piece of island and were making anything ready for their journey to their destination for today.
Hua had a bad feeling in her stomach, as she helped Katara put their luggage in Appa's saddle.
She remembered with clarity how Gran-Gran, Katara and Sokka's grandma, had told them how no one had seen airbenders for 100 years.
She knew it was nearly impossible to meet up again with old friends and mentors, like Monk Gyatso, they were for sure dead, but Kanna's information and its implication, worried Hua.
Deep down she had a feeling if airbenders were still around, they wouldn’t be open about it and the other possibility…how Aang and her (even if she was only a quarter airbender) were the only airbenders left gave her a bitter taste in her mouth.
Other than Aang who was so sure to find his old home full of living airbenders, Hua had a strong feeling they would only find one thing there.
Death.
The black-haired girl shuddered.
It felt like yesterday as Monk Gyatso explained to her some only Daimon-related quirks.
Her Daimon spirit was born out of chaos and darkness, it meant she had a kind of radar for darker things more than Aang as Avatar, who flourished in order and light.
Destruction, pain, and even death gave her a thrill but also made her feel sick.
When she heard how no airbender had been seen for 100 years, a voice inside her said: they are dead.
Call it instinct or her weird Daimon Darkness-Radar, she knew it was true.
Hua had tried to warn Aang, to not get his hopes up, but sadly he didn’t listen to her.
He was too optimistic.
Typical Avatar.
“Wait 'til you see it, Katara!”, Hua heard Aang talk, returning her from her dark thoughts. “The Air Temple is one of the most beautiful places in the world!”
“Aang, I know you're excited, but it's been a hundred years since you've been home.”, reminds him Katara cautiously.
The waterbender looked at Hua, who gave her a tiny nod.
Other than her counterpart, Hua didn't get her hopes up.
"That's why I'm so excited!", told Aang giddy.
"It's just that ... a lot can change in all that time."
"Katara is right Aang.", agreed Hua. "I have a really bad feeling about this. You shouldn't get your hopes up."
This made Aang roll his eyes and jump down from Appa's head.
"You and your bad feelings. You need to be more optimistic.", tutted Aang, which angered the Daimon.
She was not a little child!
"It would help you to be more realistic, Mr. Avatar. You can't live with your head in the clouds all the time!"
"I'm an airbender, it's in my nature."
"Yeah, that's your excuse for anything!"
"Children!", got Katara between them.
She had a tired and annoyed look on her face.
No wonder, since she and Sokka joined them, she had to stop the Avatar and Daimon regular from arguing.
"Not this early in the morning, please."
"Sorry, Katara.", they chorused together.
How synchronic they could be, when they didn't want to smash heads with each other, would astonish Katara forever.
Since neither Aang nor Hua wanted to give Katara any grief, they decided to drop the matter, for now.
Hua called for Jaiyi, who had been playing with the waves.
While her Kyuubi joined her and Katara on the saddle, Aang got Sokka out of his sleeping back, pretending there was a prickle snake in it.
They were ready now!
***
Serenly Appa was flying through the Patola Mountain range.
It's a great day for flying, musses Hua, as she sits beside Sokka and Katara on Appa's saddle, having Jaiyi in her lap.
Her nine-tails currently getting pats from her and Katara, as Sokka's stomach growls loudly.
The three females look at him in a deadpan.
Really?
He was hungry again?
They had breakfast about an hour and a half ago.
How was this possible?
"Hey, stomach? Be quiet, all right? I'm trying to find us some food.", grips Sokka with one hand his growling stomach and with the other reaches for their food bag.
His tongue out of his mouth full of anticipation, as he starts to go through it.
He looks surprised for a moment, but quickly turns the bag upside down to pour the contents into his hand.
Only a few crumbs land on his glove.
"Hey!", the water tribe warrior shouts, pointing an accusing finger in the direction of his companions. " Who ate all of my blubbered seal jerky?!"
"Oh. That was food? I used it to start the campfire last night. Sorry.", tells him Aang happily.
Hua makes a facepalm, Jaiyi just deadpans more and Katara can only shake her head.
Meanwhile Sokka nearly cries and whines about why the flames smelled so good last night.
"The Patola Mountain range! We're almost there!", announces Aang with excitement.
Katara and Hua look at each other, silently agreeing and they crawl towards Aang.
"Aang, we need to talk.", begins Hua.
"About what?"
"About the airbenders."
"What about 'em?"
"Well, we just want you to be prepared for what you might see. The Fire Nation is ruthless.", tells him Katara. Sadly her hand goes to her chocker. "They killed my mother, and they could have done the same to your people."
In compassion the earthbender wraps an arm around Katara's shoulder, giving her a squeeze.
The older girl had told her this a few days ago, when they had bathed in a hot spring together, enjoying some time away from the males. Both had cried together for their dead family and comforted the other.
Still, Hua would always comfort Katara when she needed to, like Katara did with her.
However, this does not have the wished effect on Aang, because he just cheerfully says how the airbender probably escaped and how you can reach only one of the temples with a flying bison and he doubts the Fire Nation had.
So no worries.
For that Hua flicks the back of his head.
"Hey! What was that for?!"
"You are an unsensible brat, you know that?", hisses Hua. "Katara tells you her mother was killed and not even some condolences from you! What a great friend you are."
This makes Aang blush in embarrassment.
"Katara I-"
"Aang, Hua, it's okay, don't start to argue again, alright?"
"But-?"
Suddenly Jaiyi lets out a warning yip, as Appa starts to climb higher and higher the mountain. The only one who isn't screaming in surprise and tightly holding onto the saddle is Aang since he sits on Appa's head and holds the reins tightly.
After a few seconds, they break the cloud and there is it...the Southern Air Temple in its glory.
"Aang, it's amazing!", shouts Katara.
"Ha, I forgot the bumpy ride, but for this visual it's all worth it!", musses Hua, still holding Jaiyi tightly to her chest, as the nine-tails make an agreening sound.
"We're home, buddy! We're home.", says Aang with happy tears in his eyes to Appa.
A while later Appa lands them on one of the landing platforms of the temple and the humans with Jaiyi make their way towards it.
Of course, Aang was in the lead, Hua and Jaiyi behind him, making Katara and Sokka take up the rear.
With only a half ear Hua hears how Sokka wants food and Katara scolds him for it, reminding him how they are the first outsiders at the temple.
Since they touched down, the Daimon feels sick to the stomach.
It's like she can taste the decay in the air.
Hearing screams of pain and plaids of mercy.
This is a graveyard and nothing more.
How she feels bad to think this about the temple.
Her point is only proven when Aang tells the others where he played airball with his friends, where the bison slept and trails off to admit how everything changed and only weed is remaining.
They quickly approach Aang.
To lift his spirits Sokka plays with him airball and gets absulty demolished.
At least the Avatar is again in a good mood.
But poor Sokka who landed hard in the snow.
Hua has Jaiyi in her arms, looking at how Aang lets the airball twirl in his hands, wondering when she will be apply to do this, as Katara calls for them.
The younger ones walk towards them, only to see how Katara buries Sokka with snow.
"What's up?", ask Hua confused.
"Uh ... Just a new waterbending move I learned."
"Nice one! But enough practising.", exclaims Aang. "We have a whole temple to see!"
The airbender walks away and Hua follows after a second.
She has a feeling about what Katara and Sokka found and wants them to see, Hua tastes and feels it in the air, but maybe, just for a few minutes more, she can lie to herself.
Even if it was for a short time, the Southern Air Temple had been her home, it's already breaking her heart to see it so empty.
Hah, she is such a hypocrite!
Telling Aang he needs to face the truth when she is here trying to ignore it.
Jaiyi licks her cheek, trying to lift her spirits. In thanks, she gives her a kiss on the head.
For a few more minutes she will be just a girl, who returns home, then she will face the truth, she promises herself.
They reach the courtyard where Monk  Gyatso statue stands.
"Hey guys!", Aang calls back to the water tribe siblings. "I want you to meet somebody!"
"Who's that?", asked Sokka.
"Monk Gyatso.", answers Hua, a tear slipping down her eye. "When I was brought to the Southern Air Temple he became my guardian. He was already Aang teacher and mentor, so I was his charge also."
"He was also the greatest airbender in the world and taught me anything I know.", adds Aang.
Together Aang and Hua bow before the monk both loved like a father/grandfather, remembering times long ago…
***
Hua is swinging all alone on a swing in a beautiful courtyard of the Southern Air Temple. She can see some bison calves eating grass and a few flying lemurs are sitting on the tree, where the swing is tied.
Her heart is heavy, but she refuses to cry.
“Of course, you are here.”, she hears the gentle voice of Monk Gyatso behind. “You want to tell what happened, Hua?”
She turns her head to the monk, stopping her swinging.
“Aang is an idiot and nothing more. I can’t believe he is supposed to be my other half.”, she grumbles.
Monk Gyatso frowns, stepping beside her.
He pats her gently on the head.
It helps a little to feel better.
“Talk with me Hua, what happened?”
“I don't even remember anymore, we always are at each other throats for stupid things.", she admits quietly. "The Avatar and the Daimon are supposed to be a team, but Aang and I hate each other guts. It makes me feel like a failure. I'm more and more sure that the monks and the earth priests were wrong about us."
"Now, Hua, the only thing that they did wrong was telling you both your destiny and making you meet now and not at sixteen. But we can't concern ourselves with what was. We must act on what is.", Gyatso tells her calmy.
"I try, but I'm not really good at this. Will I be ever ready? Can Aang and I become friends or are we doomed to hate each other?"
"Your questions will be answered when you're old enough to enter the air temple sanctuary. Inside, you will meet someone who will guide you on your journey. Normally you would be brought to an Earth Temple Sanctuary, but the elders and our priests had to mix up anything.", was the last thing the monk huffed irritated.
A little smile forms on Hua's lips.
"I hope you are right because if not, I will bury Aang alive."
This makes both of them laugh.
"Give it time, little flower.", reassured her Gyatso. "You both were always friends in any of your lifetimes. You will find a common ground."
"Well, if you say so."
"Now, how about a hug? I can see that you need one.", smiles Gyatso grandfatherly at her.
The young girl grins and falls in the comforting embrace of the monk, who was more like a grandfather, than a teacher to her.

Aang and Hua are still bowing before the statue of their shared guardian, as Katara puts a hand on each of their shoulder. On the floor between them is Jaiyi, who snuggles the Avatar and Daimon to her best abilities.
"You must miss him.", says Katara in understanding to her two friends.
They confirm and start walking.
"Where are you going?"
"The air temple sanctuary.", begins Aang and Hua ends the sentence with:  "There's someone we are ready to meet."
Aang and Hua enter the hallway, Jaiyi following after them.
Katara looks questioningly at Sokka, who just shrugs.
They both start walking after the Avatar and Diamon.
The round symbol of intertwined air currents, the national symbol of the Air Nomads is largely embedded in the floor, surrounded by two square shapes that form some sort of sun together.
The quartet and nine-tailed fox have reached the entrance of the air temple sanctuary.
The door supports a combination of metal-coloured pipes and three, blue, rolled-up, pipes that are similar looking and arranged like the symbol for airbending.
The large wooden door is framed by the branches of an old tree standing on the left of it and the hallway is illuminated by sunlight that falls through little, round windows.
"But Aang, Hua no one could have survived in there for a hundred years.", protested Katara sceptically.
"It's not impossible. We survived in the iceberg for that long.", reminds Aang.
"Good point."
"Whoever is in there, will help us to become a fully realized Daimon and Avatar.", explains Hua.
Eagerly Sokka steps forward, with a hungry look in his eyes.
"And whoever's in there might have a medley of delicious cured meats!"
Full of anticipation and longing, Sokka charges at the door, but it will not budge and he simply smacks into it, head first.
Hua, Katara and Jaiyi try not to laugh, but tiny giggles escape them.
The water tribe warrior quickly turns around and puts his back on it, trying to push the giant door open.
When the door does not move, he sighs, slides down to the floor, disappointed, and rests against it.
"I don't suppose you have a key?", he ask towards Aang and Hua.
"The key, Sokka, is airbending.", simply states Aang.
Aang gets in position as he takes a deep breath.
He spreads his arms and thrusts them forward, sending an air current into both of the tubes on the door.
The air follows the path of the right air current as it travels through the pipe. The wind makes one of the blue curled tubes turn around.
When it does, the tube changes colors to purple and the wind blows out like a horn.
The process is repeated for the other two blue tubes as well.
When the three blue tubes have turned and become purple, the door unlocks and it slowly starts to open.
Light penetrates the dark room.
The doors sway open.
"Hello?", calls Aang into the room. Slowly stepping in. "Anyone home?"
The others follow behind him.
Inside the room there are a large amount of statues of people, lined up in a circular pattern.
It's always two statues beside each other, nearly every one of them holds hands, but there are a few who just stand beside each other.
"Statues? That's it? Where's the meat?", groans Sokka in disappointment.
"Who are all these people?", wonders Katara.
Aang and Hua look pensive at the statues around them.
"I'm not sure. But it feels like I know them somehow. ", states Aang.
The Dsimon nods.
"I have the same feeling, hey look!", she points at a female statue. "This one is an earthbender."
"That one's beside the earthbender is an airbender.", says Aang.
"And this one's a waterbender, who holds hands with a firebender. Never thought I would see that.", musses Katara before she realizes. "They're lined up in a pattern: air and earth, water and fire, earth and air, and fire and water!"
"These are the Avatar and Daimon Cycles!", shout Aang and Hua together.
"Of course. They're Avatars and Daimons. All these people are your past lives, Aang and Hua."
"Wow! There are so many!", exclaims Aang.
"They go till the highest point of the room!", notes Hua. "I wonder why some hold hands and others not."
Katara lets out a hum, then snaps her fingers.
"I bet the ones who are holding hands were couples and the ones who don't were friends."
"Huh...makes sense.", mumbled Aang, looking like he bite into a lemon.
He feels deep down that Katara is right.
He so does not like this!
Hua is right behind him making a yucky sound, stating: "I can't believe we were that often a couple! I can see maybe ten or so who were only friends."
However, both start to follow along the circle, looking at the statues.
Meanwhile Sokka of course doesn't believe this reincarnation bullshit and Katara has to make clear how every Avatar and Daimon after they die gets reincarnation in the next nation in their cycle.
Transfixed the Avatar and Diamon stand before the last two statues in the room.
A male Fire Nation Avatar holding hands with a female Water Tribe Daimon.
It's strange, but Hua has a feeling the beautiful aged elderly lady statue is calling for her.
Like she had met an old, dear friend, the presence is calm and comforting.
She hears the whisper of crashing waves, the soft and cold touch of snow ...
"Aang! Hua! Snap out of it!"
Abruptly Hua and Aang get shaken from their daze by a worried Katara.
"Huh?", both chorused intelligently.
"Who are they?", wants Katara to know.
"That's Avatar Roku, the Avatar before me."
"And she is Daimon Lixue, my predecessor."
Sokka joins them jokily stating: "Aang was a firebender? No wonder I didn't trust you when we first met."
"I think I heard about Lixue.", mubles Katara. "Just I can't remember all about her."
"She was from the Southern Water Tribe, no wonder you heard about her.", explains Hua.
"You were one of our tribesmen? Really?", say Sokka in disbelief. "Way to return back home and lead firebenders to us."
"Sokka!"
"What Katara?!"
"You know what I mean! Don't play dumb!"
Her brother just gave Katara a big grin.
The waterbender huffs, before she notices something.
"There's no writing. How do you know their names?"
Automatically the current Avatar and Daimon look at each other and shrug their shoulders.
"We just know.", they chorus.
"You two just couldn't get any weirder.", bemoans Sokka with crossed arms.
All this Avatar/Daimon mumbo-jumbo was so not his thing.
He liked a scientific explanation for the world.
The quartet and Jaiyi startle and stare with big eyes in front of them when they hear something.
They turn around.
A blue light on the floor comes in through the door. A long-eared shadow of another being that is approaching moves over it.
Hua hides with Jaiyi behind the statue of Lixue, as the others scatter to a hiding place.
She sees Sokka, who is holding his club ready for everything
The shadow is creeping closer.
"Firebender.", whisper Sokka. "Nobody makes a sound."
"You're making a sound!", grumbles Katara irritated.
For that, all shush her, even Jaiyi!
The shadow has reached the bases of the statues and reveals a small figure standing in the doorway; it chitters.
Eh, what?
Confused Hua and Jaiyi look around their statue, like Aang and Katara, while Sokka has still his club raised, but doesn't use it.
Before them sits a flying lemur.
The animal moves his large ear and blinks at them.
"Lemur!", shouts Aang excitedly.
"Dinner!", shouts Sokka hungrily.
"Don't listen to him. You're going to be my new pet."
"Not if I get him first!"
Sokka stretches his hand while he excitedly lunges himself at the animal from behind the statue.
Aang runs up at the lemur as well.
The lemur arcs his back in fright, his ears, hair and tail standing upright as the snatching hands of the boys draw closer. It startles, quickly turns around and makes a break for it.
The water tribe boy misses the animal and falls down, while Aang nimbly avoids tripping as well by using Sokka's head as a stepping stone. Quickly Sokka gets up and runs behind Aang and the lemur as they exit the sanctuary.
Now only the girls and the kyuubi remain.
Katara and Hua find each other eyes.
"Boys.", they both exclaim tired, as Jaiyi makes an agreeing sound.
"I'm not running after them.", makes Katara clear and steps to Hua and Jaiyi.
"Me neither. Shall we look around more, maybe we find something interesting."
"Sure."
So the girls and Jaiyi look around the room and the statues.
Only a few minutes pass, and as the girls and Jaiyi stand again before Avatar Roku and Daimon Lixue Roku's eyes begin to shine!
"What the?!", shouts Hua surprised.
They look around the room and see how all Avatar statues light up.
"Spirits, this isn't good!"
"Hua, we need to find Aang!"
Immediately Hua lets Jaiyi down and the floor and commands: "Girl, find Aang, fast!"
The kyuubi doesn't need to be told and follow Aang's smell.
Behind her Hua and Katara follow her through the whole temple, as they see a large tornado.
"That must be Aang!", yells the Daimon.
Soon they reach the tornado that Aang has become and Sokka who is holding on to a rock.
"What happened?", yells Katra over the wind, trying to not get blown away.
"He found out firebenders killed Gyatso!", explains Sokka.
"Oh no! It's his Avatar Spirit. He must have triggered it! I'm going to try and calm him down!"
However, she can't even make a step forward as Hua's hand stops her.
"Hua, what?!"
Whatever Katara wants to say, she forgets it the moment she looks back at Hua.
The Daimon's eyes are shining in a burning orange as she speaks with a thousand voices: "Stay down. It's too dangerous. I will calm my other half."
So Hua has entered Daimon State, it was maybe better if she talked to Aang.
Sokka thinks the same and grips his sister and Jaiyi, holding them protective to his side.
"Well, do it! Before he blows us off the mountain!"
From the Daimon comes only a nod, as she makes her way over to the enraged Avatar.
With ease, she bends away the currents and flying debris.
When she reaches finally Aang she takes his hands in hers.
The Avatar looks full of anger and pain to the Daimon.
"My Yin, don't lose yourself in the pain. I know how you feel. I loved Gyatso and the other airbenders too. They became my family far from home. Your pain is mine. You are not alone. You have me, I will always be by your side!"
"Always, my Yang?", asks the Avatar also with a thousand voices in one.
"Till the last star in the universe dies out. This is our eternal promise."
"I remember."
"We have a family. Katara and Sokka are our family. The loved ones we lost, get reborn in new loved ones."
Finally, the winds calm down and the Avatar descends back to Earth. The two half embrace each other tight and kneel down on the ground.
Slowly their eyes return back to normal, however, they don't let go of each other.
Right now, only their other half can understand their pain and anguish.
The water tribe siblings and Jaiyi join them.
Katara embraces the two young children like a loving mother, while Jaiyi licks their cheeks and Sokka puts each a hand on their shoulder.
"You both are not alone, me and Sokka are your family now.", reassured Katara.
"Katara and I aren't going to let anything happen to you two. Promise.", swerves Sokka.
"I'm sorry.", sniffles Aang.
"It's okay. Don't worry.", mumbles Hua back, rubbing his back in comfort.
"It wasn't your fault.", adds Katara.
"But you girls were right. And if the firebenders found this temple, that means they found the other ones, too. I really am the last airbender."
"Don't forget me.", reminds him Hua gently. "I'm just a quarter airbender, but it still counts."
A little wet laugh escapes Aang and he buries his head deeper into the Daimon shoulder.
For now, the storm was over.
***
They, Aang and Hua, are back again in the sanctuary, looking one last time at Avatar Roku and Daimon Lixue.
Katara joins them, saying: "Everything's packed. Are you two ready to go?"
"How are Roku and Lixue supposed to help us if we can't talk to them?", wonders Aang.
"No idea.", admins Hua, picking up Jaiyi, and cuddling her to her chest.
"Maybe you'll find a way.", stays Katara optimistic.
They glance at each other when they hear something behind them.
Turning around they see the flying lemur standing on its back legs in the middle of the doorway.
The animal reaches Sokka's feet and drops the load he is carrying: a variety of fruits.
The lemur quickly dashes away as Sokka sits down and starts to stuff his face with the fruit, taking large bites of two different pieces of fruit.
Amused Hua, Jaiyi, Aang and Katara smile at Sokka.
"Looks like you made a new friend Sokka!", tell him Aang smiling.
"Can't talk! Must eat!"
The flying lemur climbs onto Aang and hides behind his head, his tail curled around Aang's neck.
Seems like someone wants to go with them.
The group makes their way back to Appa, with their new lemur friend.
Aang has a hand on Appa, while the lemur is sitting on his arm, as they look back at the Southern Air Temple in the distance.
"You, me and Appa; we're all that's left of this place. We have to stick together.", tells them Aang, before he turns to the others. "Katara, Sokka, Hua and Jaiyi say hello to the newest member of our family."
"What are you going to name him?", asked Katara curious.
Sokka is about to take another bite of the peach he is eating when the lemur jumps to him, stealing the fruit and returning to Aang.
He starts to nibble it with gusto.
Well, this gives Aang an idea for a name.
"Momo!"
Sokka still stands there, mouth open and hand in front of his mouth, ready to take a bite, however, he has no peach anymore.
The others start to laugh upon seeing Sokka's expression.
After that, they mount Appa and fly away from the Southern Air Temple.
Dusk is settling as Aang looks with Momo at how his old home become tinier and tinier.
In silence, Hua with Jaiyi joins them.
The girl pats his shoulder, giving him a little smile, which he returns.
And so the Avatar and Daimon look together at how the Southern Air Temple vanishes behind clouds.
A silent sentinel of a chapter in their lives.

Howdy! I was wondering if I could get your thoughts on a Page of Rage?
Of course! First, my formatted analysis:
A Page of Rage is among those who use faith in possibility. They are motivated by others to utilize defiance. (x) The Page of Rage struggles to see what they’re good at and hates complacency. (x) They are the Believer Revolutionary, defined by confidence and defiance. (x) Their opposite is the Knight of Hope. Their inverse is the Thief of Hope. They share their personality with the Bard of Hope. The Page of Rage would quest on a planet similar to the Land of Earth and Rage, reigned over by Ares (God of War). They would rise to ascension on the wings of imps. (x)(x)(x)
Now, for a more in depth look at the classpect.
The concept of the Page class likely comes from King Arthur. Arthur was a pageboy, meant to spend his time serving a knight. He spent much of his life in this lowly position while slowly learning from Merlin, the wizard. Eventually, he becomes king of Britain and wields more influence and power than anyone else in the kingdom. The Page's journey is the same. They start their lives humble yet naively unaware of their actual shortcomings. Even when they realize what they lack, it will take them longer than any other class to grow into their true potential. When they do, they become one of the most potent and influential classes. The Page's story is that of a servant becoming a king.
The Rage aspect is defined by defiance, power, and will to fight. It is symbolized by anger, fire, and demons. An excellent example of the Rage aspect is the angel Lucifer. Lucifer is a symbol of evil and destruction, but he is also one of rebellion against what you do not believe in. He is skepticism and revolution. All of these concepts encompass the Rage aspect. While Rage does sound evil on the surface (especially since I used the Devil as an example), it is no more good or evil than any other aspect. Rage is necessary to survive: to fight to protect yourself while ensuring you are not tricked by your opponents. Rage is the one to remind you that sometimes war is necessary and the only option.
As for characters, the Page of Rage is a god tier that I do not have many examples of. The two I do have are Kieran from Dragon Age and Joker Jr. from Batman: The Animated Series. That being said, Joker Jr. is more of a placeholder example of the classpect, as I do not believe Tim Drake truly changed god tiers in the show. Instead, the concept of a child Joker (or Joker Robin) fits the Page of Rage well.
Kieran from Dragon Age is the son of Morrigan, a mysterious "witch of the wilds" and a companion in the first game in the series. She is the archetypal sexy, mysterious, and relatively evil witch. The game's final boss is the Archdemon, an undead dragon possessing the soul of an ancient false god. The hero would have to sacrifice themselves to kill the creature but is offered the option to lay with Morrigan and produce a child. If they do so, the child absorbs the god's soul instead, and the hero can survive. Kieran does not die from this, but his personality is affected. When the main character meets him in Dragon Age: Inquisition, the boy will respond to the character's race and class with cryptic comments indicating knowledge of the game's lore that he, and the player, should have no way of knowing. Kieran does not appear aware of how strange and unique his omniscience is, commenting on the world with well-meaning naivety. The only indication that he notices something is wrong comes from his confusion about others, such as why the elves would wear tattoos on their faces when he knows they are slave markings. However, he does not consider that they do not know this information.
Joker Jr. is the Batman Animated Series' version of the third Robin, Tim Drake. Because (Jason Todd) Robin's death was considered too dark for child viewers, the integral tragedy was swapped out for Tim Drake being abducted and tortured by the Joker. Robin was tortured for three weeks before Batman found him in order to be turned into "Joker Jr." It was Joker's intent for Joker Jr. to kill Batman himself. When Robin awoke and was set loose on Batman, he followed along happily. He acted as deranged as the Joker himself until the very end when he was called to make the shot. Joker Jr. then became distraught and aimed the gun at Joker instead, killing him. After killing the Joker, he cried and was comforted by Batgirl.
Not every individual with the same classpect will be the same person; they merely have similar destinies. Some examples of Page of Rage character types are: the bumbling henchman and the dark, powerful child. Both characters naively serve rebellion against the status quo: the henchman is doing what they're told by serving a villain, while the dark child does not understand that they are inherently in opposition to society by just being who they are. Both of these characters could become great leaders if they opened their eyes to the truths of the world. The henchman could rebel and become a dangerous villain (or hero) in their own right. The child could become a powerful magician or god-like being. In both cases, if they do succeed, it may take them most of their lives to get there.
The Maid of Rage has a similar struggle to the Page of Rage. They both must learn to be defiant for themselves instead of following what others command. This can be seen in Harley Quinn from Batman, who is very obviously similar to Joker Jr., as a henchwoman. The Page of Rage differs in that they do not start out serving anyone but their own lack of judgment. In the end, they learn to help others by their own terms, whereas the Maid discovers how to serve themselves.
The song Lullaby Bye by Dr. Steel is a good example of a Page of Rage's story. The song is about a robot boy programmed to sing on a street corner. One day he falls and breaks a crank on the top of his head. At this, he realizes he is alive for the first time and becomes furious at having been forced to perform. Because of this, he expresses his emotions through song and begins to sing once more.
Lastly, for a final look at my formatted analysis.
So the Page of Rage uses faith in possibility. This means they can use the firm convictions of themselves and others to suit an end. Specifically, they are inspired to action by others, either from being pushed by others into action or motivated by observing them. The action they take is wielding the defiance, strength, and “evil” of both themselves and others like a tool. If realized, the Page can use this talent with unequaled finesse. Unfortunately, they begin life with a misunderstanding about how powerful and defiant they really are. Either they will overestimate their own strength or underestimate it, with bad results all around. They will naively rail against naivety itself, bludgeoning both themselves and others. The Page of Rage possesses the confidence and defiance of the believer revolutionary, zealous to say the least. Their opposite is the Knight of Hope (Sir Lancelot), not held back by anyone but themselves and bravely holding onto their belief in the status quo, charging forwards against evil.
As with all classpects, the Page of Rage starts out as their inverse, in this case, the Thief of Hope. The Page acts as the Thief when in the process of taking others to task for their complacency. Overconfident in Rage, they instead take happiness from others as a show of their hatred of mainstream convictions. In doing so, they appear as desperate to hold onto a belief system (Hope) as the people they are trying to change. They are convinced that the way to be defiant is to take away the beliefs and happiness of others, even commandeering the system itself if need be (like a cult leader).
So the Page will go from someone unaware that they are rebelling at all to a person wrestling agency away from others in their desperation to be counter-culture. Who do they end up as? If, after a long chunk of time, they learn to think objectively, they can become an inspirational revolutionary or leader of armies. The Page of Rage must look to others to determine what system must be broken down. By stepping back and observing the world, they can come back into the fight strong, the one fight they know matters.
Then they will be the King Arthur of change, of fighting back. The world they influence will be violent, but hopefully, that violence will be for the better. The Page of Rage will know how to lead the battles that matter, just like the robot boy who kept singing, not because he had to, but because now he had a purpose.
The Page of Rage shares their personality with the Bard of Hope as both classpects are concerned with confidence/assurance and outrage/defiance. The Page of Rage stubbornly believes in revolution and fighting back (in an "I hate you, Mom!" sort of way), while the Bard of Hope fights back with what they believe ("I'm the only right one here!")
Their dynamic is
Page of Rage: "I can be happy by tearing things down."
Bard of Hope: "I don't care if you've been torn down because I am happy."
Now, the planet ideas. Pages have something regarding earth (as in dirt) on their planet, such as pebbles, mud, or clay. Rage players will have anything pertaining to the Rage aspect, like battlefields or hellfire. As with all planets, these characteristics can align in some way with the player's personality.
An example of a Page of Rage's planet might be: the Land of Stones and Giants (based on the story of David & Goliath from the Bible). David was the underdog when he faced off against the giant, but he stood up for himself against Goliath by utilizing his will to fight and defiance. He managed to take down the bully with a single stone from his slingshot, avoiding fighting him in physical combat. The fact that even a small stone can take down a powerful enemy is a very Page of Rage sentiment.
Thank you for the ask and I hope my analysis helps!

Note
sorry i ask so many questions (im tryna space em out) but i have a few more imma just compile here like last time and these are the last for today 1. what are your ships? 2. (dunno if i already asked this) what would the storm hawks be like evil? 3. whats your opinion on the other skyknight squads and which ones your fav?
Lol, no worries!
1. Hehehe well I have my OTP, EclipsexAerrow which is my ocxcanon ship. I’ve had it since the show started and I love them so much <3 I also have FinnxRory which I mentioned before in another answer. That one’s a little more recent, like 3 years now. Came about as a funny idea but now I’m very fond of their dynamic and story.
I guess I also have a Dark Ace ship? AcexFletcher, he’s another oc of mine that shows up in the epilogue. Might talk about them more at some point.
I think that’s about it for ships I actively write for.
2. Hmm this is a fun question, I’ll try to keep it brief though. Aerrow’s VERY fun to think about in an evil au, I technically already designed him, but you’ll have to dig around in my blog to find it lol. He’s still cocky and fearless but a little more ruthless too. A little more mean and selfish. Basically just the opposite of who he normally is.
Finn’s already self absorbed but now he’s more so. Thinks he deserves everything and isn’t afraid to just take it. Greedy and more of a jerk.
Piper’s a bitch, lol. Stuck up and thinks she’s smarter than everyone. Would be more like Cyclonis I think, in that, she doesn’t care about how she treats others and would experiment on people and animals if it meant finding some scientific discovery.
Stork keeps some of his quirks, but instead of being actively evil, he more just keeps to the shadows and doesn’t like to interact with people. He knows 45 different ways to kill someone though, thanks to all the books he reads.
Junko…I guess this would just be the au where he doesn’t leave the youth brigade and fully joins Cyclonia. He’d also be the opposite of who he normally is. Just mean and angry and intimidating. A bully.
Radarr would bite and scratch people, be a little menace. Laughs at people’s misery and just causes a lot of chaos and destruction.
3. I wish we got to spend more time with the other squadrons!! Like the Screaming Queens are such a mystery to me and I wanna know more about them. As for a favorite though… I guess the Rex Guardians? Mostly because I love writing for Harrier, he’s such an interesting character. He’s a whiny, stuck up rich kid who’s never been told no. That’s so fun. Also Terra Rex seems like a cool place to explore, I wanna know why they’re one of the richer terras and why Harrier’s a Sky Knight when he hardly does anything.
I could keep going but this answer is long enough XD

WATGBS AU: Summary - Part 2
Hi, I made a summary post for our WATGBS AU yesterday! I’ll post the rest~
My friends asked me before about our WATGBS AU's version of Idate, so here you go. Here's a quick "summary" write up:
(Rubs hands together)
Commence sheer insanity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
An intro to Idate 🖤🤍
Idate is the evil protag of our WATGBS AU! That makes him very fun for me to write. I love writing for our AU, and IdaTatsu and the others, cuz it's pretty much just us writing for our OCs~ And I get to come up with lots of big brain ideas, and add onto each everyone's amazing ideas whenever we discuss.
Idate is the "Star Eater" of our AU. He's a chaotic evil demon orca man. He has void powers and eats souls as nourishment. He's the Lord of Space and the Underworld, whose void world holds the dead souls of all the people he ate for power. His soul hellscape is basically a chamber of eternal cries of agony.
He acts only according to his own pleasures/satisfaction while being a sadistic, violent murderman. Like he's dangerous and playful, but also has a refined, "dapper gentleman" attitude
He's extremely chaotic and the world's most insufferable wifeguy /endearing that falls devastatingly in love with and eventually gets married to Tatsumiya.
The IdaTatsu ship ties a lot to the story that we wrote for our AU. Idate feels drawn to Tatsumiya, someone who is the complete opposite of him, and they're both very curious about the other, trying to figure each other out.
Tumblr media
Other rambles about Idate 🖤🤍
Idate is an evil demon mf like Douman, adult-like in demeanour and mannerisms with a level of refinement in how he composes himself. But Douman is especially formal and elegant, Idate is more chill and casual and has a "dapper gentleman" attitude
But he has a childlike sense of entitlement when it comes to his wants. He wants to play and cause destruction just to enjoy himself. He's intentionally cruel and violent on purpose* and acts solely for his own entertainment. He's playful about violence and treats it like a game. Like Judar
Like, Hibari, Xanxus, Idate, and Judar, etc. are this specific brand of "Delusional meow meow living in his own bubble that thinks he's the coolest cat king of the world," these characters are the kings of their own lives and the world around them, even if only in their own heads /endearing
When I talk about Idate, I refer to our AU Idate by default. I don't want anything to do with Funa and Funa fans who are uncritical of her and her content.
My friends and I are not Funa fans. We're just people who ran with her characters and decided to revamp and flesh them out and add a lot of layering and depth cuz they deserved better

A colour edit I made of Idate’s Battle Card
I’ll put the rest under the cut as usual!
The orca twins - Idate and Takama
Idate, and his older twin brother, Takama, were originally born in the Red Sea, a cursed abyss ruled by the tyrannical evil ruler, the Red Sea Princess (RSP), Algol. As Grand Demons, they were meant to be Algol's Messengers. But their parents wanted to flee the Red Sea, and when found out by Algol, stalled for time fighting her to ensure their kids could escape.
Kid Idate and Takama fought their way out of the Red Sea to escape, going completely off of adrenaline at this point just to survive. They end up awakening their destructive, cursed demon powers while escaping.
In short, Idate has dark aura manipulation and "void" demon powers where he can create voids in limited range, and can access his own void dimension, which is like a black hole of dead souls... Like "eaten up stars."
I imagine they managed to escape the Red Sea cuz kid Idate ended up accidentally opening up a void that the twins fell into at first, so Algol couldn't find them
Idate's memories of the time they escaped, and anything related to the Red Sea, and their childhood were blocked completely due to trauma. Meanwhile, Takama is the only one who knows what happened to their parents, and copes with the events through denial. Takama soon realizes Idate has forgotten their parents and childhood memories - and that only he has these memories anymore, only he knows what happened.
As a kid coping with losing his parents, he decides to never tell Idate about their parents and past. He assumes Idate would be better off and happier without the knowledge of the Red Sea or their parents and he just wanted to protect him and his smile 😭 Takama becomes a guardian/parental figure for his younger brother after losing his parents, and like, he honestly sacrificed a lot just so Idate can have a carefree life.

The fated lovers - Idate and Tatsumiya  🖤🤍❤️
Timeskip! Hundreds of years later in the present time (when our AU starts), Idate eventually meets Tatsumiya on his travels, the Grand Sorcerer of the Blue Sea Kingdom. Idate and Tatsumiya are opposites in terms of their powers, personalities, and roles. Both Idate and Tatsu are messengers of their opposing "Gods" and queens. Idate and Takama were originally supposed to be Algol's messengers of the Red Sea, and Tatsumiya is Lucinda's.
It's just that, when Idate and Takama escaped from the Red Sea as kids, Idate ended up "betraying" that role, cuz he sided with the Blue Sea solely for Tatsu and the others. So Idate technically turned traitor on the Red Sea when he fell in love with Tatsumiya 🥰 So that "Messenger" role ended up going to Takama later on when he got ensnared by Algol...

(A few rough doodles I’ve done of them! I need to refine these)
Idate’s powers 🖤🤍☀️
Idate's powers represent the concept of "Void." The abyss. The absence of everything and all. Emptiness. Infinite darkness. An infinite void. Almost like a representation of death. Idate's leitmotif is the black sun and the eclipse. His void is a black hole.
Idate has destructive demon powers. His stronger void attacks can disintegrate anything it touches. Idate eating and stealing souls also plays up to his whole void theme.
Idate can access his own void dimension to call upon and manipulate darkness. Idate can make makeshift weapons from the dark energy. It's a black demon aura that can be controlled at will and slash into things.
My friend Cinna said, "Idate's abyss started out as a pitch black void, a black hole. But every soul he threw in there became a will 'o wisp esque ball of light, and with how much prey Idate's eaten, it's like a starry sea of lights, a fucked up starry sky, now."
(Everything I mentioned here is literally just shit we made up for our AU <3 I didn't mention the orca twins Idate and Takama's backstory lore in detail but this post is getting so long already, I'll leave it for another time)

Everyone: How the fuck do you guys come up with all of this

Other rambles
I copy pasted this from one of my previous ramble posts, might as well add it here too
My drawings depict our WATGBS AU’s version of Idate, a buff DILF dad. He wears blue eyeliner and earrings, has scars, and orca markings/patterns more realistic to actual IRL orcas.
I wanted him to have a big coat cape jacket that hangs off his shoulders (like some of my faves, Douman, Hibari, and Xanxus)
How I draw Idate is what I imagine him to look like in our AU ^^
(Though I’ll fix the orca markings whenever I refine the sketch, since it’s still a rough sketch right now)
I made Idate themed after the black sun in our AU, and Tatsu is themed after the moon. And Tatsu has pink/red eyeliner and star and moon earrings. So after he meets Tatsu, he starts wearing blue eyeliner and star and black sun earrings to match with her <3 🖤🤍❤️
I quickly scribbled the earrings, but I think it’s also neat if Idate’s black sun earrings also look like a vortex... A void/abyss. I’m not sure what colour to make the earrings... It’s ok as yellow, but I’m also wondering if I should limit the amount of colours used in his colour palette. Silver or white could also work
Me and my black sun faves!!! ☀️🖤🐈‍⬛️
(Points at Douman, Judar, Idate)
If you ask, “Did you guys seriously make an entire ass fantasy world based off a character that shows up a grand total of 3 times in the OG WATGBS as short cameos, and the rest of your sea creatura faves”
Answer: Yes!
In the OG WATGBS, Funa-verse Idate is a violent orca that goes around on strolls, acting solely for his own pleasure to entertainment himself, based off the orca-like behaviour of playing with food by tormenting other sea creatures.
In our WATGBS AU, Idate is the Lord of the Underworld. His character theme is “Void/Emptiness.” He has Void powers and can create voids. He’s the evil protag of our AU. We created a whole story for him and the other WATGBS AU charas. (99% of our WATGBS AU is just lore that my friends and I made up <3)
And it’s so fun to write for an evil meow meow mf protag 🤭

THE CURTAINS FLEW | MM Inves Start (¼)
As this bizarre pseudo-trial goes on, it seems like the ghosts are reaching a conclusion: that the deceased Niko Moralis had some involvement in the events here. What you’re meant to feel about that conclusion, or better yet, do with it is another matter entirely. Discussion slowly begins to peter out as people seem to realize that it’s uncertain how to proceed from here… and that’s when the living hear it.
Well, they hear two different things, in fact. From opposite sides of the cabin– one towards the cabins you all have been staying in, and one towards the amphitheater where your trials have been held. The group splits to peek out of the windows on either side, and observe two equally odd sights:
As one half of the group looks out towards the cabins area, they see the air around it begin to distort. Heat waves radiate in the air as bright green flames burst out, surrounding the buildings they’ve called their homes for the last few months. Eyes strain against the blazing emerald tendrils as the cabins begin to compact and shift. The tendrils take the shape of hands shaping the world right before them. Wood and metal snap under the pressure as cabins are forcibly crushed into the ground.
Meanwhile, those looking to where the amphitheater stands see… a building. More accurately, they see through a building, as it isn’t fully opaque. The image of a large hunting lodge flickers in and out on top of the amphitheater, occasionally vanishing, but becoming more solid by the second. …If you think about it, you might have heard the dead mention a lodge before…
Over on the cabins side, oddities continue happening. A stray thought may occur to some of the group as they witness the shaping and changing of the cabin area: What of their belongings inside? There seems to be no clear answer as the cabins one by one cease to be. Magic blazes around one cabin in particular, fingers clench and unfurl in anticipation of deleting the cabin. As the magic forces the cabin into the thick dark goo, something launches out of the front at an alarming speed.
…It flies through the air… impressively far…
…Straight through the semi-transparent, and apparently semi-solid wall of the appearing lodge. Hm.
The dead, meanwhile, notice that the walls of the building they’re in begin to shake. Whatever further discussion was about to ensure is put on hold as you brace yourselves on the furniture, and if someone were to glance out the windows, they would find the forest and fog flickering out of view, replaced with the amphitheater that you might’ve thought you’d never sit in again.
…And something soaring through the air, directly towards the wall of the lodge. You have a second to brace for impact before it crashes– with surprisingly little destruction, almost seeming to simply phase through the wall. It lands perfectly in the middle of the common area where you’ve been having your discussion, and you finally see what it is.
The sea mine.
Which begins to emit a high-pitched ticking noise. Uh oh.

with-a-grain-of salt enjoying right back atcha but man. the denizens being part of the grimm life cycle is so FUN
i have a couple thoughts:
1 - something about ambrosius’ creations disintegrating into ash a la grimm whenever he makes something new…?
2 - overall i think it probably makes more sense for this reading to interpret the ever after’s core deal as knowledge rather than choice (<- grimm are “manifestations of anonymity,” their natural opposite is “knowing,” curiosity fundamentally arises from the desire to LEARN, and in 9.4 particularly a whole lot of emphasis got placed on knowing and being sure that you really know what you are). which also squares with the creator-dark idea because, per ‘the two brothers’, dark’s two gifts to humanity were destruction and knowledge, with choice coming from light.
3 - so perhaps grimm represent the destructive half of dark’s blessing, and the ever after represents the knowledge half?
4 - it occurs to me that the exterior of the knowledge vault was a tree, so 👀
5 - vague gestures in the ever after’s equivalent to “death” being essentially ‘if you break you get fixed up good as new’ and dark’s interest, in ‘the two brothers’, in the human capacity for resilience and specifically how they dust themselves off and rebuild after catastrophes—there’s some thematic harmony here for sure.
6 - personally, i’m very convinced that summer is a) alive and b) stationed at beacon, so i’m not sold on her being in the ever after in any form, but the possibility of a silver eyes-jabberwalker link is really intriguing (esp given how strongly silver eyes have been symbolically associated with death!). [also, vague gestures at my pet theory that the silver eyes are actually essentially a type of magic drawn from knowledge, emotional knowledge specifically; something something the price for yang’s arm is knowing what it feels to be loved… and that’s the same thing that empowers the silver eyes]
7 - and like—drifting a bit into my own takes on rwby’s cosmology here gdjdjs sorry—conceptually the gods are Broken, right, bc each of them represents only half of human nature; this is why they couldn’t truly Get Rid Of humanity. (and this is represented symbolically if not outright literally in ‘the two brothers,’ which begins with a primordial being splitting themself into two halves out of loneliness, and those two halves then being in eternal conflict w/ each other because they’re not really meant to be separate). anyway the point is, something about the jabberwalker being a manifestation of light’s… absence from or scorn for this world/for dark’s creations generally, and something about silver eyes ultimately tracing back to ozma/light’s chosen one? + light being the one who was so concerned with the importance of death. vague granules of a thought here. what happens if one god tries to create a substitute for his brother after they part ways?
8 - rwby hammers the pattern of “knowledge, then choice” pretty hard, and choices made on incomplete information generally turn out Pretty Badly. so if the ever after is a) dark’s realm, b) a land of knowledge, and c) integral to both the life cycle of grimm AND salem’s backstory (<- sidebar wouldn’t it be funny if most of the time ozma spent thinking they were at war she was actually just like. chilling in the ever after HDVAJAHSK), then… like team rwby are in the “gaining and examining knowledge” stage of the pattern rn and thus presumably getting Out of the ever after will involve making a choice, either about themselves or about how they’re going to Deal With salem once they return, or more likely about Both since these are loosely interrelated questions (i.e. stick with the huntress path of perpetual stalemate or…?) and perhaps this, in a roundabout way, leads them to the crown itself.
9 - or maybe they literally get out Through the crown? they did after all fall in Through the staff. and… something about through-the-looking-glass again (entering and leaving dark’s realm through the relics of light, creation/choice, for humans the line between light and dark is nonexistent because humans are innately of both. something there maybe.)
much to think abt
/// You know, I’ve been with-a-grain-of-salt enjoying @bestworstcase ‘s analysis from the sidelines, but the vol 9 commentary has been particularly enjoyable. I caught up on most of those posts, thought about some of the commentary leading up to the volume from the trailers, keeping me up until 4am. I promptly then woke up just shy of four hours later with my eyes popped right open, everything having percolated in my sleep, because I’m calling it right now:

Ok so my art history nerd is coming out to play because of Olis insta post!!
Tumblr media
It’s a close up taken from Fallen Angel by Alexandre Cabanel painted in 1847 and it depicts the moment before lucifer rises again after being cast from heaven. Inspired by John Milton’s ‘Paradise Lost’ Cabanel wanted to draw the viewer in to the idea of alluring beauty not always coming from purity - that dark and brooding is sexy if you will. This was painted in a period when society was outwardly buttoned up virtuous and prudish, while behind closed doors tho opposite was true!
Tumblr media
The detail in the painting is wonderful. Cabanel drew/painted several studies for this painting depicting a much more despondent Lucifer before settling on this much more defiant version. Smouldering with anger and rage, he sheds a tear while in the background we can see a cloud of angels in diaphanous blues watching from on high - they’re meant to look boring by comparison with the buff and beautiful Lucifer. We are meant to buy into his anger and smoulder as justified and want to side with him - everyone loves a bad boy. It is a painting depicting the idea that enchantment and sin, morality and beauty are not mutually exclusive
His pose is one of sulky rebellion and his clasped hands held high are designed to suggest that his rebellion is not done - he remains defiant. The tear falling from his eye is a literal representation of the idea of falling - it is pearlescent and beautiful and is suggestive of the psychological implications of his fall from grace - rooting his ego, his frustration and anger and cementing his determination for revenge but at the same time, enticing us to feel sympathy by humanising him.
His wings luminous and iridescent, full of colour and life - they are a contrast to the other angels - the darkness is literally rising - if we could see him perhaps a few minutes later in the story they would still be luminous and iridescent, but fully black - showing the darkness that now enshrouds him.
The painting is meant to be ambiguous and encourage open interpretation - we are never meant to be sure whether we should feel for and side with lucifer, or if we should be repelled and cautious of his extreme perfection.
Oli posting this is super intriguing to me!
the name lucifer means ‘the morning star, the bringer of dawn’ so is he trying to suggest perhaps that we’re going to see Buck (and Eddie) revisit the darkness of the shooting - deal with the trauma and that will bring the dawn of a new ‘stage’ in the buddie relationship?? Are we going to see buck become consumed by his anger, do something stupid that gets him suspended (cast out of heaven). Is he going to head into a self destructive spiral. Or perhaps I’m just going a bit mad and reading way too much into this 🤔🤓😆

did you mean it?
read on ao3.
It’s a total of 3 significant events that led to this, her forehead knocked against his, breaths heavy and mingled, eyes wide and hearts bleeding.
It’s a total of 3 significant events that led to this, her forehead knocked against his, breaths heavy and mingled, eyes wide and hearts bleeding.
The first event isn’t really an event at all. It’s a prologue, necessary context to truly understand the monumentalism of this moment. It’s the memory of her eyes, piercing and reproachful, being the first thing that he saw after losing his mother. It’s shared trauma and oreos while they’re young and naive. It’s truces and training and growing up too soon together. It’s stargazing and stupid jokes saving eachother in every possible way. It's the culmination of the years Percy spent growing, learning, and being with Annabeth, and the unknown and therefore repressed feelings that came with it. Feelings are like the sea in that way, they don’t take well to being restrained. Percy has found that you cannot box in oceans or sentiments, they always find a way to spill over and out, with no regard for the destruction left in its wake.
The second event is Dionysus deciding on a whim that the inhabitants of his camp are ‘uncultured pests’ and taking it upon himself to set up a field trip for campers to the Ancient Greek Cultural Center in New York. (Percy thinks it’s really just to distract kids that were still shaken up about the battle at camp and the losses it caused. But, Dionysus would never say so. He’s far too proud to admit to caring for the children he’s been assigned to look after.) Argus loaded all the kids he could fit into the strawberry vans, as Chiron listed all the reasons this was a terrible idea. As it turns out, his worries were in vain as miraculously, no monsters attacked, and no mortal asked too many questions. No, instead, the only hitch in his plan was the glaring inaccuracies of the Center sending Dionysus into a fit of rage. He ranted for so long, their 2 hour long field trip ended up lasting until the place closed.
Event the third is the ridiculously long line leading to the mens room at the rundown gas station they’ve stopped at, causing Percy to traipse into the woods, deep enough to know that no one other than the squirrels were watching, and pee there. Unbeknownst to him, Annabeth had decided to take a quick walk in the forest as well, (in the opposite direction of his peeing endeavor) with the purpose of clearing her head. Both returned to the parking lot after 10 minutes, with no truck in sight. The gas station lights are turned off on the inside and the door sign has switched decidedly to closed. They look at each other in disbelief.
“Percy?”
“Yeah?”
“Uh...did they…”
“They didn’t. They wouldn’t.”
“I think they would.”
“They would never-”
“I have pretty solid evidence to the contrary.” Annabeth deadpans, casually letting her hair loose and hopping on top of the miniature gas machine for motorcycles.
“But, how did-”
“No Argus.” Which means, no all-seeing eyes to double check the headcount. Percy begins to pace.
“Okay, but-”
“Two trucks.” Both of which are probably assuming Percy and Annabeth are on the other.
“Oh.”
“Yeah.”
“Oh, gods.”
“Leave them out of this.”
“Those fuckers.”
“Which ones?” She asks. He looks up and she’s fighting a smile. He pointedly doesn’t notice the way her mouth curls up, or the way her hair falls around her shoulders and down her back, or how pretty she looks lit up by the neon red lights of the gas stations prices, which apparently doesn’t turn off when they close.
“Do you know something I don’t?”
“I know lots of things you don’t.”
“Ha-ha. I mean about how to get out of here.”
“Ohhhhh, let me think.” She wrinkles her nose in faux concentration, tilting her chin up towards  the sky. Percy is too annoyed to think it’s adorable. “Nope, not a clue.”
“Your phone?”
“Left it on the truck.”
“Iris message?”
“Percy, it’s dark as shit.” The laughter she’s been holding in comes pouring out. Nevermind that he feels his chest sigh in relief at hearing it for the first time since their quest, this is serious.
“You’re laughing.”
“Just a little.”
“You’re telling me, you don’t have a brilliant plan to get us on a truck.”
“Yes.”
“So, we’re stuck here.”
“Yes.”
“And you’re laughing?”
“You’re just really funny when you’re stressed.” She giggles. He can’t remember the last time she giggled. He missed it. He hates her.
“Oh my gods.”
“Okay, okay, look, I’m sorry. We’re halfway to camp right?” He nods. “I’m sure they’ll figure out we’re missing before they get all the way back to camp, but let's say, worst case scenario, they don’t-”
“Not helping-”
“And they make it the rest of the way back to camp. It took us four hours to get to the center, which means camp is two hours away, so if they make it the two hours back to camp before they realize we’re missing, and they drive back up-”
“C’mon ‘Beth, you know I suck at math.”
“We’re stuck here for five hours at most.”
“Five hours?”
“And that's if no passing cars let us use their phones to hurry the process up.”
“Five hours.”
She’s laughing again. “Seriously, what is so funny?”
“It’s just-” Her cheeks are red and she’s very poorly attempting to suppress her smile. “You’ve been calm in so many life or death situations, and being stuck at a gas station is what finally breaks through.”
“It’s nighttime.” She stares at him for a moment and then she’s laughing again, full bodied real laughter, and he's laughing too.
And it’s as if this gas station became their own personal Ogygia, an oasis, a resting place for them to be stupid kids again. And they don’t talk about the battle, or Rachel, or the volcano, or any of the million things set on tearing them apart. They talked about his mom getting serious about his new boyfriend, about Tyson’s underwater adventures and Grover’s searching shenanigans.
They smack talk with no real heat about who the better fighter is (Oh please, Seaweed Brain, I've been training since before you could tie your own shoes.), and argue about which ancient hero had the greatest journey (Hercules, are you kidding? Did you even read the myth?). They break into the gas station for snacks (What the fuck, Annabeth, where’d you learn to pick a lock? No, I wouldn’t prefer you break the glass, you psycho. Oh my gods, can you really break the glass?), and dissolve into giggles as they try to fit five drachma into the cash register.
They end up back outside sitting on the gas machines facing one another from three feet away.
“Your mom called me the other day.”
Percy, who’d been lazily squinting up at the murky sky, searching for any sign of stars, whipped his head to look at her. “What?”
“She called me on the phone. We talked for a bit. She said she wanted to make sure I was alright.”
“That sounds like something she would do.” He sighs and hops down from the machine, turning away from her, hoping to hide his blush from the dim light. “She cornered me on one of my off weekends, asked what was going on with us.”
“Oh.” He hears the shifting of fabric and assumes she followed him in sliding off the gas machine.
“Yeah.” It’s silent for a long time before she responds.
“What did you say?” She asks, her voice smaller than it was moments ago. He hears her scratching at the flat metal top of the machine. “When she asked, what did you say?”
He runs his finger through his hair, and one gets caught in a particularly large snarl. “Doesn’t matter.”
“It matters to me.” She whispers and gods he’s terrified but he really doesn’t have a choice when her voice wavers like that. Her words shake and every ounce of his being tells him to do whatever it takes to soothe it.
“I said we were fighting. That there wasn’t one sole reason for it, just a bunch of little reasons. I told her that I scared you when I….went away for two weeks last summer. And that you didn’t like bringing Rachel on your quest. I told her that we….. disagree about how to best handle Luke. That I probably wanted to protect you more than I wanted to listen to you.” She laughs softly and he blames what he says next on her laugh. It is the catalyst for everything that follows.
“I told her that we’d be okay. Because no matter what happens I’m always gonna love you.”
He hears her breath catch. He doesn’t have to look back to know she’s turned to face him fully. “Did you mean it?” She calls. He doesn’t answer. The words haven’t caught in his throat, they’ve spontaneously combusted in his vocal chords and he doesn’t think he’ll ever speak again.
The sound of gravel crunching gets closer until suddenly she's beside him, and he didn’t tell his torso to twist toward her, he thinks she might just be his center of gravity.
“Did you mean it?”
She’s looking up at him, and her hair smells like lemons, and her cheeks are pink, and her eyelashes go on for miles, and her sunspots are better than stars. And it’s as if she pulls the words right out of him, he’s hypnotized by everything about her.
“Of course I meant it.”
She exhales and closes her eyes and while he mourns the loss of the sight, his body moves on it’s own accord again and he’s edging closer and closer and she opens her eyes and here they are.
Their noses brush, and this time he closes his eyes, and their noses brush just so, and…
Whoa.
He was wrong, it wasn't just those three significant events that to her forehead knocked against his, breaths heavy and mingled, eyes wide and hearts positively bleeding. It’s clear he’s been waiting his entire life for this moment at this shitty gas station.
Waiting for this. Waiting for her.
They kiss for a moment or an eternity, and they fit. His hands are on her hips and hers clutch at his shirt before sliding up to his throat, and it’s like his soul is whispering, oh there you are.
And then she’s pulling back, so she has just enough space to shake her head without disconnecting from his forehead.
She's breathless when she whispers, “This is a bad idea.”
His hands trail up and down her forearm of their own accord, and when he whispers back he’s breathless too. “Yeah, really bad idea.”
Her hands slide up from his chest to his shoulders, and then she’s kissing him again, with purpose, and he’s kissing back like his life depends on it because he thinks it might, thinks if he lets go of her he’d die on the spot.
It seems his theory might get tested when she pulls back again just far enough to whisper against his lips, “Is it always like that?”
He kisses her again, once, twice, because he can’t help it and whispers back, “I don’t know, you were my first kiss.”
He’d released any serious hold he had on her the moment she hesitated, but then she’s rocking back up to meet him halfway and his entire body thinks thank the gods. He actually sighs his relief into her mouth, as his hands desperately reach for her face, some fingers tangling in her hair, and their lips are magnets, opposites that don’t have a choice but to pull together. Despite how much he wants to keep doing this forever, he has to tell her.
“I don’t wanna lose you, again.” He means not ever, but he figures she understands the severity in his voice. She’s running her hand through his hair, and his slide up and down her back, and she knocks her nose against his as she answers, “I know, me either. I’m confused, this is confusing me.” And she tilts her chin just so, like she did a million years ago, and this time he kisses her.
They kiss for an infinity, he gets to taste her laughter when she giggles at the absurdness of it all, and it’s better than ambrosia. He kisses her until he doesn’t know anything else, until his entire universe is Annabeth Chase, with her cheeks and her curls and her lips. She is everything.
And then headlights penetrate their universe, voices bring an end to their infinity, and Chiron is speaking but it’s nothing, it’s all white noise because she’s no longer in his arms, and his center of gravity is being ripped away and he hears someone ask, “What’d you guys do?”
He’s still looking at her face when she answers, “You know, tried not to strangle each other mostly.”
But, she looks back before she turns all the way around and her gaze is charged and her lips quirk with the secret they share.
He is so screwed.

Shigaraki and Dabi
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Heroes hurt their own families in order to help complete strangers. Words said by Shigaraki, and lived by Dabi. If you haven’t noticed, there’s quite a lot of parallels between the two of them. Especially their childhood selves, dark haired hero hopefuls whose hair turned white due to stress and eventually fell and became villains. They were the children closest to the heroes, the son of Endeavor, the grandson of Nana Shimura, and yet both of them fell through the cracks the hardest. Let’s talk about the foiling of these two, under the cut.
1. Father Says No
Both Shigaraki and Dabi are characters who grew up in a strict, patriarchical household where the father was the head of the household and determined all the rules.
Tumblr media
The Shimura household was built by Koutarou, who held all the money, and therefore determined all the rules. The same can be said for the Todoroki household, which only came into being to fuel Enji’s ambitions. This is something Enji literally thinks, his first priority when having children was not to love and raise them, but to raise heirs that would carry on his quirk and make up for the weakness in it.
Tumblr media
Enji also literally used his financial wealth and status to pressure her family into arranging a marriage. In the households, the patriarch is the ultimate authority and cannot be questioned. Koutarou sets the rules of the household because he has all the money. Endeavor sets the rules of the household because these children are there to be his heirs. Toya and Tenko both break the rules in their father’s households in some way and become scapegoats.
Ironically, they break the rules in opposite ways. Tenko, because he wants to become a hero.
Tumblr media
Toya, because his flawof the flames being too harsh for his flame constitution and burning his own skin makes him unable to become a hero and carry on his father’s legacy.
Tumblr media
Quick tangent to explain what I mean with Toya. This is speculation, because we haven’t been shown the exact details, so feel free to point and laugh at me if I’m wrong. Endeavor says (incorrectly) that if Toya had reached his goal for him, that all of his pent up negative emotions would have disappeared just like that. (They wouldn’t.)
Tumblr media
Which means, Endeavor once again projected himself on his child. Toya was supposed to fix all Endeavor’s hurt feelings for him. So, when Toya failed at the training. When Toya wasn’t good enough. When Toya was flawed.
Tumblr media
Which means it’s likely, Toya went in Endeavor’s mind from being the one who could carry his dreams, to being the one that Endeavor could scapegoat to blame for his negative emotions. Which meant, at some point he tossed Toya aside. At that point he started treating Toya differently. Toya probably pushed himself more and more to try to go back to the way things used to be, which is probably why his hair turning white, he started to crawl to Natsu every day.
Tumblr media
There’s also a lot of similiarities and differences between their households.
Enji wanted his children to be born heroes.  Koutarou’s rule was no heroes allowed.
Shimura and Toya both had a sibling they would run to and confide in. For Shimura it was Hana, and for Toya it was Natsu.
Shimura Tenko is the youngest sibling in the household. While Touya Todoroki was the oldest.
Tumblr media
On the surface, the Shimura household seems more comfortable than the Todoroki household. Shimura receives a lot of comfort from his other relatives, his grandparents, his mother, his sister. However, none of them really confronted the problem in the household and at the end of the day Tenko was still getting beaten.
The Todoroki household also doesn’t seem like it was a place of much comfort for Toya. It really does seem from flashbacks that all he had to confide in when things started going wrong was Natsu (again feel free to taunt me cruelly if I’m wrong).
So, you have Tenko who is quietly and gently denied by his family, and Toya who suffers all alone in his household, either getting beaten himself, pushing himself too hard in training, or hearing his father beat his mother and Shoto.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However for both of them, it’s a gradual accumulation over time. The stress of the household overtakes them. Their hair turns from its original dark coloring to white from the sheer stress of it alone. They, as children, are made to bear the stress of their entire unhealthy household, because they are the scapegoat.
Endeavor genuinely believes that if Toya had somehow lived up to his promise he would never have turned abusive.
Kotaro believes that it was Tenko who was upsetting the peace of the household, because he would just not stop it with the hero talk.
They both soak up all this stress until it explodes outward. However, the incidents that turned them from Tenko -> Shigaraki, and from Toya -> Dabi are entirely different.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Toya committed what was essentially a suicide. He either staged his own death, or failed at his own suicide and survived. Tenko didn’t kill himself, he killed everyone else around him. Shigaraki destroyed the household that was denying him.
To simplify the manner in which they lash out. Touya destroys himself, Tenko destroys other people, especially the ones he believes are oppressing him or his friends.
Well you say, Dabi is trying to take down endeavor. However, Dabi still sees Endeavor and himself as one in the same. His flames are Endeavor’s flames.
Tumblr media
One last thing, Dabi and Shigaraki are both marked by their father’s abuse. Dabi was burned by Endeavor’s flames. Dabi literally lives with third degree burns, looking like a living zombie. Then makes his burns even worse by using his flames in the self destructive manner Endeavor taught him.
Tumblr media
Not only does Shigaraki still carry the lip and eye scars from being beaten up with a gardening tool, but Kotaro’s hand reaching out to his face is a symbol that Shigaraki keeps on him literally to this day by wearing a hand over his face constantly.
2. Friendship and Ideals
So I think all the subtle differences in their backgrounds is what leads to them expressing themselves differently as adults. There are several similarities between them, but I think hardcore Shigaraki fans can tell you all the reasons they prefer Shigaraki, and hardcore Dabi fans can do the same with Dabi.
I think a lot of it has to do with their relationships to their families. Families define how you connect with other people.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shigaraki was instructed to always keep his family close to him. He’s always confronting his own feelings about his family, his pain from his family, that’s why when he lashes out he also takes his own personal feelings and pushes them outwards. Shigaraki isn’t concerned with right or wrong, moreso, these are my feelings. I reject the society that rejects me. What Shigaraki is concerned first and foremost, is feelings. His own feelings of being rejected, and also the feelings of people who were rejected just like him.
Tumblr media
Shigaraki is the heart of his group. He’s the person they all rally around, because they gave him a place of belonging. And, Shigaraki has also expressed several times murderous monster that he is that he cares about the individual feelings of those closest to him. I won’t let you trample on Twice’s feelings, his first thing to do when waking up is order the league to be close to him.
Tumblr media
Unlike Dabi, we’ve also seen Shigaraki directly confront the feelings of his missing family once more. He forgives his sister, he tries to comfort his mom. He destroys his father again. He tells his family that he denies them. He tells his grandfather that he still hates her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I would say that Shigaraki carries those feelings with him, while Dabi dissociates himself from his feelings.Shigaraki directly confronts those feelings because Shigaraki is the heart, feelings are what matter more to him.
Dabi has feelings, obviously. Dabi has feelings even if he processes them in a way that’s not easy and palatable. Everyone in fact has feelings (though sometimes I wish I didn’t). Everyone expresses things in their own way if not in the typical way.
Tumblr media
Dabi is completely closed off in regards to his own feelings. He’s not like Shigaraki who is open enough about them he’ll tell his backstory to the whole league on the spot. In fact that’s another difference, the league generally knows Shigaraki’s issues, when they had no idea about Dabi’s.
Tumblr media
When really there was no good reason not to tell them. What are they not going to be up for murdering the number one hero?
Friendship is a priority for Shigaraki. Individualism is a priority for Dabi.
Tumblr media
Dabi’s feelings towards the league are a messed up jumble, but his behavior towards them is pretty consistent. He takes every oppurtunity he can to insist that he’s not a part of them, that they’re all crazy and he’s the only sane one, that he doesn’t care about their feelings. This can’t all be Dabi just being tsundere or whatever, it’s physical steps taken for Dabi to distance himself from others.
Dabi’s individual goals are more important than his connections to other people. Shigaraki has no distinct goal besides empty lashing out and therefore connects to people with similiar hurt feelings than his.
Remember, Dabi self destructs. It’s likely, Dabi sees himself as a martyr. An individual willing to burn himself to take down the society with him. He’s trying to die for some cause like stain.
Tumblr media
So before I develop on this tangent one more difference in similarity between them. Shigaraki’s family is dead. He can’t really do anything but carry on their feelings with him. Tomarau means, to mourn.
Dabi on the other hand, his family is still alive. He could have before the whole killing spree just shown up on their front doorstep. The reason he hasn’t, is because he can’t forgive Endeavor’s sin.
Whatever pushed him this far, whether it be a strong sense of justice, or a desire for personal revenge. Dabi values that, more than he values his connections with other people, even his own family who is still alive. This is once again the complex way Dabi handles his feelings, it’s likely he pushes his family away, the same way he pushes the league away and doesn’t process them. That’s why he says I thought about it so much I went crazy. He just insists he doesn’t care, and doesn’t think instead. Shigaraki lives constantly confronting his own feelings, Dabi lives by avoiding them.
Dabi is impersonal, aloof, and only ever thinks of himself as an individual. He will cooperate with others if it suits his needs, but the bond of the league hasn’t quite reached him yet. There’s a consequence for this.
So twice dying was Hawks fault. Because Hawks you know, stabbed him.
However you could say, Dabi’s planning centering all around himself, and what he can accomplish as an individual, meant he failed to accomplish that Twice might get hurt as a result of him letting Hawks into the league as a Spy. It’s an unintended consequence, but still a consequence.
Dabi showed up to save Twice but couldn’t. Then afterwards Dabi uses Twice’s death in the most gratuiotious way possible. Dabi insists once again he doesn’t care, that he never cared about Twice except as a tool that would have made fighting the heroes a lot easier.
Shigaraki destroys everything around him. He destroys for the sake of the people around him. Dabi destroys himself, his own feelings, he self destructs. When people get caught up in his flames they’re sacrifices for his cause.
Their priorities and the way they lash out are different. Dabi cares more for ideals than people. Shigaraki cares more for people than ideals.
However, they don’t have to destroy each other. Shigaraki trusts Dabi. Shigaraki of all the members of the league (with Toga as well) is the heart, is the best at sympathizing with the pain of other people because he is constantly in pain himself.
Dabi made a mistake and as a result Twice got killed. He gambled with too high of circumstances. Twice let a secret slip and invited the heroes to the League’s compound. Twice brought Chisaki for a meeting and because of that Magne died. This kind of scenario has happened before. Of course Dabi insists that his motivations were less pure than Twice’s, he didn’t care what happened to the rest of the league as long as he got the dirt he wanted for his big reveal.
I’m not suggesting that Dabi is secretly a sweetheart, or a misunderstood angsting teddy bear. Just that Dabi is currently closed off from all of his feelings, that’s why he denies too the feelings of people around him and their attempts to reach out for him. Dabi has refused the compansionship of the league.
It doesn’t have to be like this. Characters can develop. Shigaraki especially has been shown to reach out to people multiple times. Kurogiri is fond of him. Himiko and Twice in their moment of weakness, are convinced to stay on Shigaraki’s side because he shows their face to them. Spinner basically questioned why he was even staying with the league at his lowest point when he thought they had no reason to be there, and it was Shigaraki who he found his cause in.
Tumblr media
Dabi is lacking something. He’s burned off and emotionally stunted his ability to develop connections with other people.
Shigaraki is lacking something. He is, again and again, told that he needs a plan besides destroy everything. Shigaraki is very observant of the world, and understands the truth, but he can’t get people to listen. Unlike Dabi who planned to such an extent, that he literally made a live public broadcast to turn public opinion against Endeavor because that was more important than winning a fight.
It’s true Dabi and Shigaraki could turn against each other, because Dabi doesn’t value people, because Shigaraki considers his lashing out more important than his ideals. They could also be the ones to balance each other out. We’re at an important turning point now, Dabi can either break off from the league now that his individual mission is compelte, or he can finally be reached by the league.
I think Shigaraki might reach him, because even though they’re grown up so differently they started in the exact same place. They were both boys who wanted to be heroes, and just wanted one person to tell them it was okay, that they could be heroes too.

au//// When someone’s causes you emotional damage or trauma, thin flowers raise from your skin. Most people have, on average, three groups. The people of the DSMP typically have a few more than the average. However, Tommy has significantly more, and people don’t realise.
Tommy’s first set of flowers raise when he’s only seven years old. Phil neglected him for his oldest brother, leaving Wilbur to raise him. The group of five flowers raise when Phil misses his seventh birthday in favor of going on an adventure with Techno. The flowers are green and white, and cover his upper thigh, raised slightly from the skin, the marks being tender and feeling slightly like a petal. He doesn’t tell Wilbur, even as his brother holds him while he cries. He knows what the flowers mean, and he doesn’t want Wilbur to feel even worse for him. Even when wearing shorts, the flowers aren’t visible.
(A small flower is added to the group of five on his thigh when he leaves for the Dream SMP, Wilbur promising to come and meet him soon, while Phil and Techno don’t say anything. The flower hurts a little more when it grows in, and the green petals have a mixture of pink swirled in. He still doesn’t tell anyone)
Tommy’s second set of flowers is smaller, during the Disc Saga with Dream. Two flowers raise from the skin along his shoulder blade, both a shade of green usually associated with the admin he’s at war with. He didn’t feel too hurt by the war, but he felt enough of it. He understood though, even if Dream had invited him to his land, Tommy guesses he was just too much to handle. But Tubbo kept him grounded, so he didn’t back down from the war. They were his discs anyways. The sleeve of his shirt covers the flowers; he keeps it a secret.
Tommy’s third set of flowers bloom when Eret betrayed them for the Dream Team. Six flowers bloom across his chest, hurting while they raise. He had liked Eret, he had thought they were friends. Now he can barely look at the guy without remembering the feeling of betrayal, the words “It was never meant to be” ringing in his ears as he remembers Dream killing him and taking his first life (a new green flower is added to his shoulder blade). He trades his red and white shirt in for a bigger size, so the flowers don’t show through the shirt.
Tommy’s fourth set of flowers grow when Sapnap kills Henry. It hurt more than when Sapnap killed Harold, because Henry’s death was intentional. He liked Sapnap at one point, but they had an unsteady friendship. Henry’s death caused a single cream coloured flower to raise at the skin on the right side of his ribcage, creating a constant reminder of the death of his pet.
Tommy loses sight of when the flowers start to bloom after that. He stops remembering which grew in chronological order, and instead only remembering why they grew in the first place.
More neon green flowers raise across both shoulders as Dream continues to mess with him, sometimes the colour of his discs showing up at the ends of the petals. He adds length to his sleeves, and makes the neckline of his shirt a little higher. It’s okay, no one needs to know. He’s not weak, he’s not sensitive (he knows the amount of flowers he already has say otherwise).
The flowers from Eret hurt less as time moves, the king redeeming himself slightly. The flowers don’t fade, he doesn’t think he ever will, but the pain is almost completely gone.
(When he comes across the Final Control Room with Techno, the pain comes back. It doesn’t leave for a week.)
Schlatt causes a grey flower to raise on the back of his neck. He was Tommy’s idol, and he really thought they were, or could be, friends. But his and Wilbur’s exile proved otherwise. His hair covers the flower easily; he doesn’t have to try hard to hide it.
Quackity’s betrayal of L’manburg for Schlatt makes two small blue flowers bloom right above Schlatt’s grey one. It hurts but is almost completely forgotten when Quackity joins them in Pogtopia later.
He gains five brown and yellow flowers from Wilbur during Pogtopia, covering the left half of his stomach. Four more are added when he blows up L’manburg, one more is added when he sees his brother begging his father to kill him. A huge green and white flower is added to those on his thigh. He doesn’t wear shorts anymore to keep it hidden. All of them cause him pain.
Techno causes four pink flowers to run down his right arm. His brother told him to die and spawned withers. It hurt a lot, but he continued to hide. The flowers were thinner than the others, and he starts wearing a white long sleeved shirt underneath his iconic red and white tee. It hides them perfectly. No one questions the new fashion choice.
Seven yellow and black stripped flowers bloom across his heart when Tubbo exiles him. His best friend exiled him and sent him away for a mistake that he didn’t mean to make. The prank had gotten out of hand.
In Logstedshire, the green flowers across his shoulder blade multiply and grow darker, and he has to ask Ranboo to get him the red and white hoodie he has stored in his home, back in L’manburg. He prepared for this, he knew he was going to be covered in flowers one day. People just didn’t like him. Ranboo doesn’t ask why, he doesn’t see the dark green flowers through the white shirt sleeve.
Dream finds out about his flowers. He’s the first one to ever find out. Dream manipulates and gaslights and abuses him, and he almost jumps into the lava so many times. When Dream blows up Logstedshire, no new flowers are added, but the preexisting ones burn. He almost jumps off the pillar he made. (He doesn’t).
When he finds Technoblade’s cabin, he starts to heal. His flowers hurt less and less as the days go by, but they never leave. They never fade.
But then Dream blames him for blowing up the community house, and he and Tubbo fight after Tubbo gets his disc from the enderchest. A new black and yellow flower is added to the bunch over his heart.
Then he chooses Tubbo over Techno. His best friend over his brother. Both have caused flowers but Tubbo was always there. He doesn’t feel like he’s betrayed Techno; he never agreed to L’manburg getting blown up. And Techno sides with Dream, causing more pink flowers to be added to his arm. He understands though, he did chose the opposite side. It doesn’t matter if his brother was the first one to hurt him.
Fundy and Niki both cause flowers; Niki’s two purple and Fundy’s two orange ones intertwining with each other on his ankles. Niki burned down L’mantree and Fundy sabotaged their war supplies. It’s okay though; they might want him dead but he fucked up in the past. He understands their hatred of him.
Other miscellaneous flowers are spotted across him, and his gives up on trying to remember who all hurt him. His skin is painted with thin petals of all colors, from so many people.
When L’manburg’s been blown up for the last time, Dream’s TNT running out and Techno’s withers being dead, and Phil standing with the two of them looking at their work, Tommy is tired. He struggles to breathe normally, but he doesn’t cry. He’s past that.
Dream looks at him, his mask lifted up just barely enough to see the smug smile on his face. Tommy looks down, looks at the destruction. He’s so tired.
“How many were added?” Dream asks. Tommy knows what he means. Tommy doesn’t respond.
Everyone is listening, just like they did at the community house. They’re confused, but they let it play out, not intervening. They never do.
Tubbo moves closer to Tommy as Dream does. Techno and Phil just watch with the rest.
“I asked a question.” His voice makes Tommy shiver and represss memories of Logsted. “How many flowers were added since I last saw?”
Tommy’s reply is simple: a shrug and a quiet “too many”.
Dream moves before Tubbo has a chance to stop him, and Tommy doesn’t try and defend himself. Dream’s axe slashes at Tommy’s hoodie, cutting away the fabric and revealing the flowers that cover his arms and stomach and shoulders and back. The axe cuts at Tommy’s jeans, the denim peeling slightly and showing a sliver of flowers at his thighs and ankles.
No one knows what to do, no one knows what to say, as Dream reveals the pain of the sixteen year old. None of them have as many flowers as that. A lot of them have more than three bundles, but no where near as many as those on Tommy’s skin.
Tommy just closes his eyes, and breathes in. He turns around and walks away, hearing Dream’s laugh coat the silence in the destruction of the broken country. It’s not until he’s at the stairs of the Prime Path that he hears yelling, everyone accusing others and shouting for revenge at Dream.
Tommy doesn’t notice when he gets to the bench, he doesn’t notice when he sits down and watches the sunset. He only becomes aware of reality once more when he feels Tubbo’s presence behind him.
They don’t say anything. They don’t need to. The silence is comforting.

Akutagawa – Dazai – Atsushi: An analysis about their relationship
Tumblr media
And why Dazai treats them so differently.
.
The symbolism of Atsushi and Akutagawa:
From their outward appearance and their design alone, Atsushi and Akutagawa are meant as opposites, but they’re also a duality:
Both wear black and white clothes, but whereas Atsushi is mostly white with a streak of black, Akutagawa wears mostly black with a streak of white. It’s even represented in their hair colours.
Besides this, there are many other things that mark their oppositeness and their duality to each other:
Atsushi is a member of the ADA, while Akutagawa is a member of the PM. Atsushi’s ability colour is blue, Akutagawa’s ability colour is red. Being a member of the ADA makes Atsushi someone who works for the “light and day”, Akutagawa is someone who works for the “darkness and night.” Atsushi loves cats, Akutagawa hates dogs. Atsushi’s ability takes the form of a tiger, Akutagawa’s ability represents a dragon, both creatures are important elements in Asian mythology. Ultimately, Atsushi symbolizes life or is associated with life, while Akutagawa symbolizes death or is associated with death.
Considering this, the title Shin Soukoku (Double Black) isn’t even a fitting name for them, since they both aren’t simply a double, as both Mori and Fukuzawa or Dazai and Chuuya were.
[Beware: Spoilers starting from chapter 83]
.
Dazai’s mindset and his relationship with Akutagawa:
1.) One of the reasons why Dazai’s treatment towards Akutagawa as a mentor was so cruel and brutal, firstly lies in his overall negative mental state during his PM time. He was visibly unhappy, constantly surrounded by death and violence, and more than now struggled with his suicidal thoughts.
Is it an explanation for his treatment of Akutagawa? −Yes, it is.
Is it an excuse for his treatment of Akutagawa? −No, it isn’t.
2.) Another reason is that this is just how things are done in the Mafia. There is no sense in handling someone with kid gloves in the PM, a place where you get killed for disobeying orders, where you shouldn’t see your peers as friends or get to intimate with anyone:
“It’s an unwritten rule in the Mafia to not stick your nose where it doesn’t belong. One must never open the door to another’s heart and try to judge them for the darkness tucked within.” – Odasaku
If it wouldn’t have been Dazai who taught Akutagawa in such a cruel way, with high probability, it would’ve been someone else. Or as Dazai explained, a sign of weakness will get you killed in the PM:
Tumblr media
And Dazai had the absolute chance to kill Akutagawa after he disobeyed orders and killed a person captured for interrogation. His ability can nullify all other abilities by mere touch. He could’ve simply touched Akutagawa, so that he wouldn’t have been able to use his ability to protect himself, and then shot him on the spot. But he didn’t do that, because:
“Akutagawa – he’s like a sword without a sheath.” Dazai grinned from ear to ear. “He’ll surely become the Mafia’s strongest skill user in the not-so-distant future. But for now he needs someone who can teach him how to put that sword away.”  [...]
“When I first saw him over in the slums, I was horrified. His talents are extraordinary, and his skill is extremely destructive. Plus, he’s stubborn. If I’d left him to his own devices, he would’ve ended up a slave to his own powers until he destroyed himself.” – Dazai to Odasaku
He already valued Akutagawa’s skill and saw the huge potential in him:
I was surprised. I had never heard Dazai openly speak so highly of one of his men like that before. [...]
Dazai didn’t freely make people work under him, period; much less a boy on the verge of starvation in the slums. But Dazai seemed to have his own reasons for doing it. – Odasaku about Dazai
.
Something which is also later confirmed by Atsushi:
“I believe Dazai-san has acknowledged you long ago.”
Why is it then that Dazai still treats Akutagawa so badly and doesn’t tell his approval right to his face? Something that becomes Akutagawa’s main purpose for a long time, even after Dazai left PM.
.
Dazai’s relationship with Odasaku and Ango:
Dazai’s behaviour and actions when he’s with Ango and Odasaku clearly shows that he can be different and doesn’t treat everyone with cruelty and coldness, if he wants to.
But what’s the difference between the two people he considers his friends and the people who are his subordinates?
-> Ango and Odasaku value and respect life.
.
The reason Dazai becomes and is attached to Odasaku and Ango is their viewpoint about death and life:
“I would become a novelist and write a story about why the man stopped killing. But to become a novelist, I needed to sincerely know what it meant to live. – Odasaku
.
“You’re quite the interesting fellow, Ango. Doing that isn’t going to make the boss happy. […]” “You’re making records of the lives of the deceased. Am I right?” […] “The line between human losses and those of money and equipment begin to blur. There is no individual, no soul, and no dignity to death. But you’re fighting back against that.” – Dazai to Ango
This is the reason why he values them so much that he considers them his friends. He’s not friends with them because he gains something from it, or because they have interesting abilities, or because they are on the same intellectual level as him (which they aren’t). Something that gets emphasized by Odasaku’s rank. He descended from an assassin (a high reputation in the PM) to a maid-of-all-work and an errand boy (a low reputation in the PM).
Dazai is attracted to and fascinated by people who value life – something you don’t find in the PM, and something he himself struggles to understand. Probably because there never was a person who taught him this. Like a curious child, he turns to people who he knows have a better understanding in this than him.
He even becomes very irritated when one of his subordinates questions his friendship with Odasaku:
“Dazai, sir, I don’t mean to be rude, but… I saw him [Odasaku] sweeping behind the office the other day. A man of his status isn’t qualified to be your friend, let alone with an enemy like this.” Dazai stared, flabbergasted, at his underling.
“Are you joking? Odasaku’s not qualified?” Dazai asked, thoroughly surprised. […] “You fools!” Dazai’s lips curled into a sneer in genuine disgust.
This respect doesn’t solely concern Odasaku and Ango. Hirotsu is also one of the very few people he respects for this reason. Even though Hirotsu may not value life in the same terms as Odasaku and Ango do, but he also doesn’t lightly throw away his subordinates lives either:
“…Ha-ha! Just kidding!” Dazai abruptly added in a cheery tone. Hirotsu stared back at him, confused. “The reason you have so many people following you is that you don’t turn your back on them. I’ll leave things in your hands. I won’t tell the boss.”
It’s only when Odasaku dies in Dazai’s arms and tells him to go protect the living, that he starts to change his behaviour and viewpoint.
.
Dazai and his many failed suicide attempts:
Why is it that Dazai − a genius, a manipulator, someone who exactly knows how the human psyche works, someone who’s predictions always come true and who has plans within plans – then always fails when he tries to kill himself?
Dazai has read the book “The Complete Suicide” so often that he can cite it in his sleep. He has engaged in torture and killed many people. He knew exactly how to involve Ango and himself in a car crash without them dying.
If he really wanted to, he could’ve already killed himself many times ago. He claims that “he doesn’t like pain and suffering”, which according to him is the reason why his suicide attempts fail. But there are ways how he could kill himself without just that. It’s just that he doesn’t WANT to die.
„I thought if all went well, I could die a heroic death on the battlefield. But the dozen or so armed guys who showed up were a real scrappy bunch. […] Thus, I unfortunately avoided death once again.”
He always tells that something inconvenient happened that kept him from dying. But sometimes people around him notice that there’s something wrong in his attempts:
“I was walking and reading a book called ‘How To Not Get Hurt Out Of The Blue’ and fell into a drainage ditch.” A surprisingly absurd reason. – Odasaku and Dazai
.
“I glance at his desk and see the blasphemous book he bought the other day, ‘The Complete Suicide’, opened to a page titled ‘Death by Poisoning Mushrooms.’ Next to the book lies a plate with a half-eaten mushroom on it. However, upon further inspection, it appears to be a slightly different color from the one in the book. – Kunikida about Dazai
.
“I thought you [Gide] were similar to Dazai at first, rushing into battle and wishing for death without even considering the value of your own life. But he’s different. […] And he’s just a child−a sobbing child abandoned in the darkness of a world far emptier than the one we’re seeing.” – Odasaku to Gide about Dazai.
Dazai is a person who actively seeks life and wants to be freed from his own philosophy. He’s struggling between seeking death, which he thinks is the only way to free him from his loneliness and suffering, and seeking life for the simple reason that he doesn’t want to die.
.
Dazai’s relationship with Atsushi:
Atsushi saved Dazai from drowning despite the fact that he himself was on the brink of starvation. The first thing Dazai got attached to Atsushi is his view on life. Despite the abuse he suffered, Atsushi seeks life and wants to live, makes it even his reason to fight and his life motto.
“The lives of those who can’t save anyone have no value”. In that moment an idea suddenly popped into my mind. […] If by any chance I can let the passengers return home save and sound does that prove that it’s okay for me to live?”
Throughout the story, Atsushi transfers his viewpoint and determination to characters who have a connection to death, darkness and/or suffering (e.g. Kyouka, Lucy).
The reason Atsushi values life, being the symbolical personification of it, is the reason why Dazai is able to treat him much better than Akutagawa.
.
Forming Shin Soukoku:
Dazai says that Akutagawa is a highly skilled student, but he needs someone to sharpen him. He instantly decides and plans to team him up with Atsushi, the moment he meets him. He knows that Atsushi, due to his view on life, is the only one who can teach Akutagawa to value life himself and to change as a person. In other words “the one who can teach him how to put that sword away”.
This is something Dazai in the past couldn’t and still can’t teach Akutagawa (or anyone at all for that matter). Because he himself needs and wants to be taught that, so he seeks people who are able to give him a different understanding in this (see Ango and Odasaku). Vice versa Akutagawa isn’t able to teach Dazai how to value life, because he himself represents death and has a strong connection to it. It’s one of the very first things he says when he gets introduced in the story:
“Fear death. Fear slaughter. Those who desire death have an equal desire to die.”
Tumblr media
Even though Atsushi’s words may seem very harsh, but it IS one of the reasons why Dazai so abruptly abandoned Akutagawa. Is it an explanation? −Yes, it is. Is it an excuse? −No, it isn’t.
Another reason is that Dazai tries to flee from his responsibilities, his past and the terrible things he has done (including Akutagawa’s abuse), because he is not able to face them. Not now that is. He is still in need of guidance and of change, in order to be able to do this.
[Side note: Dazai and guilt is something that can be analysed in its very own meta. I’m not expanding on it further here].
Akutagawa’s connection to death gets emphasized by him even disobeying orders to not kill, for the sole reason that in his mind, killing is much simpler and more effective. He lashes out and tries to kill the people who are respected by Dazai and/or considered friends, even though he should know that an action like this will definitely not get him the approval he so wants.
He was willing to kill Atsushi, even though his mission was to capture him alive, ignoring the possible consequences this would have had for him.
But throughout the story Akutagawa changes his viewpoint. He thinks that the reason why Dazai acknowledges Atsushi and puts him above him, is because he is a better (better in the sense of physical and ability strength) subordinate than him. But he realizes that this can’t be the case and questions it more than once:
Tumblr media
His former pure jealousy and grudge towards Atsushi (something which he also felt for Odasaku) slowly turns into questioning, trying to understand what differs them from each other. Dazai knows very well that Akutagawa is still obsessed with him and his approval. Therefore if necessary, he uses this to manipulate him, if it’s to either protect/help Atsushi or to get them both to work together:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Akutagawa starts to constantly challenge Atsushi, questioning him, and demanding him for an answer. It’s only when Akutagawa saves Yokohoma from the Moby Dick crash, that Dazai openly tells him “you did well”.
The reason why Dazai does this so hesitantly, shows that he is still in his own metamorphosis. He’s slowly changing as is Akutagawa. He is still afraid to face his responsibilities, but doesn’t treat his former subordinate cruel anymore.
This change in Akutagawa goes so far that Atsushi is able to ask him to not to kill anyone until they meet again. When told about, Dazai is visibly happy, as it is something that he as a mentor wasn’t able to do. He is reminded of Odasaku, comparing Akutagawa now to him:
Tumblr media
Due to this, Dazai now has this much faith in Akutagawa that he puts the task to keep an eye on Atsushi and to protect him in his hands:
Tumblr media
Mind the difference of his expressions when he talks with Akutagawa then and now:
Tumblr media
Dazai doesn’t team Atsushi and Akutagawa up only for strength and fighting reasons. Or because their abilities are compatible in battle. But because Dazai knows that Akutagawa won’t unnecessarily kill anymore, because he is seeking answers through Atsushi and is changing through their interactions:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He keeps his promise, much to Atsushi’s surprise, but it’s out of the question that he is happy about this:
Tumblr media
Akutagawa promising not to kill anyone, keeping his promise in the end and even going so far as to protect someone, in other words valuing life, is something which Dazai could’ve never taught him. And again, he still can’t. Dazai is not solely the teacher, but the student himself. And although Atsushi may be a teacher for both of them in his philosophy, he is a student of Akutagawa and Dazai in other things.
Because what Atsushi lacks is self-confidence and his own worth, faith in his own abilities and the mental strength to overcome his past abuse and trauma. Those are things he learns through Dazai and especially, through Akutagawa.
