how i feel about all the changes in s3
#listen i understand complaints and feeling disappointed but y’all gotta remember there’s always the og campaign#there were questionable choices definetly but being negative about it on the internet just does disservice to all the good stuff#it ain’t perfect i miss the group kill but i’m honestly blaming steaming’s whole ‘every season must be the same length’ model#like this season really could’ve used an extra 3 episodes but alas! they made it as solid as possible for tv in that time!#tlovm#critical role#the legend of vox machina#tlovm season 3#also kiki resurrecting percy near and dear to my heart but also the vax percy bond and getting to see more of percy’s torment mmmm#also the cr cast are clearly having fun with it so its not like some foreign entity is committing sacrilege when they change stuff!

Why did they give AOS Spock such a bad haircut ?? Where's the pointy fringe? Why is it round?
#before I got properly into Star Trek all I'd watched were the AOS movies#which at the time I thought were fine and good#and I still generally hold that opinion story wise#but now that I've actuall watched TOS and other treks#I am not massive on the casting and costume decisions#Benedict cumberbatch as Khan I do not like. why did they give him a turtleneck??? he looks so lame#and they didn't even do anything interesting with his hair or makeup or whatever#it's straight up just ol Benny in a black turtleneck and normal ass pants#Og Khan's costume was way cooler. but whatever#anyway I don't think AOS Spock looks like Spock. stupid fringe and no eyeshadow???#and Chris pine or whoever plays Kirk (I forget) is kind of completely incorrect and also not right personality wise#but that's being nitpicky I suppose#they aren't bad movies#they're fine to exist on their own#but I do think casting could have been a little better#Simon Pegg as Scotty was perfect though#I love you Simon Pegg#ferry yaps#star trek#Star trek AOS#Star Trek tos

I really cannot reiterate enough how jarring re-watching the x files has been in regard to just how different everyone looks as compared to the modern tv shows I'm used to- Scully has eyebags and visible freckles, sometimes her hair is a bit fizzy- Mulder has chest hair and forehead wrinkles, characters will sometimes have red marks or pimples, they actually cast women in their 40s and 50s as side characters who look their age rather than having a severe amount of work and make-up and lighting done, frequently they're still framed in a desirable way, people's hair looks so much more normal and natural, not always perfectly primped- it's so... nice. comforting.
#like they really have sandblasted everyone the past 20 years#and so many shows only like older rough dudes will get to be bald and have wrinkles or whatever#in this its like anyone#prominent guest actors arent always insanely perfect looking#almost like they were cast for talanet and presence over looks#seeing gillian in her 20s havin some lil crowsfeet while still having a baby fave is like OUGH#so im not horrifically aging prematurely#and her and david were absolute sex symbols#all said and done#idk maaaannnn i think we should go back#the x files

It's so surprising to see you on an Edelys fanzine, I seriously thought you didn't like Edelgard!!
No, I like Edelgard a lot! All of the students are likeable characters to me.
#shoves that old doodle I did with edie getting flipped off under my pillow#idk why you would have ever thought i didnt like her#look we were all cringe once#i actually liked her even when I drew that I honestly don't recall what was going through my mind there#edelgard is here to incite action amongst the rest of the cast and I think she is very good for the purpose#i do think they handled her plot better in 3 hopes where we see her taking steps to solidify her power before declaring war#but i also understand that's something the narrative of houses wouldn't be able to facilitate#also her post-skip design??? amazing perfect i love it#and I like how she sets Bernadetta on fire I think that's SUCH a good way to integrate her ruthlessness into the gameplay#and I like that there's a difference in kindness between CF Edie and other route Edie I think it makes sense#inbox

Needing a Sua perspective from the ALNST auditions to Round 1. I never put much thought into what happens to the cast post-Anakt Garden graduation (do they immediately go to the auditions? Is there a period of time where they dont see each other until they recognize each other at the audition? Theres a considerable amount of time between the auditions and their Alien Stage season, did they see each other often between then or...? etc.), but regardless, imagine being her and having to choose between sabotaging your own audition so you dont have to go the the Sing, Win, or Die Show or putting your in your all in hopes of winning and spending just a bit more time with this girl you love because you know itll likely be the last time you see her. Imagine...
#dee p thoughts#alien stage#alnst#vivinos#like. not as if life wouldve been sunshine and rainbows if sua failed the audition and never went on alien stage hashtag Im a Pet to Aliens#but like. sua was definitely more in the know. Im not the type to believe mizi was completely naive but I think mizi may have bought into#the idea that dying Wasnt That Bad due to what she was taught and her trust in her owners...until round 1- maybe mizi was confident she'd#truly win and/or her owners praised and made her feel so. sua: ''My dream is Mizi's dream. (paraphrased)'' etc etc#maybe it was the dream of mizi's owners that mizi wanted to fulfill or mizi just wanted to impress her owners in return for their care...#but sua knew. she knew it would either be she never sees mizi again whether she dies or achieve such fame that sua could never reach her...#or sua can spend a little time with her. whatever they have left. whether it was her or mizi the likelihood of them ever seeing each other#again... because mizi is intent on this. she is going to join alien stage. she is going to pass the auditions because she is so dazzling.#...I need to be with her.#I think considering the ivan and sua comic anakt garden may be a pipeline to alien stage? its functionally a music school iirc so I think i#at least gives them a leg up and humans are put into anakt garden with at least some intention of having them try out for alien stage-#but nonetheless I imagine there was a liminal space where none of the cast really knew where their lives were going post-anakt garden.#not that they have much choice in the matter but still dalkjdalkbn- that liminal space mustve been a dark time for majority of them#because well. their owners. and they couldnt meet each other and may never meet again...#regarding the time between the auditions and their alien stage season I imagine its funnily a lot of. training. pr vocals visuals...#they have autographs despite them all potentially dying quickly they had them draft and practice and perfect autographs guys adjlkbnadlfkjf#the look mizi and sua shared in sweet dream when they both passed the auditions together...AUGH.....

Gael García Bernal in Another End (2024, dir. Piero Messina)
(these gifs also feature Renate Reinsve)
Gifs are all 540px wide so you can click to see larger.
[other gael filmography gifsets]
#tl:dr i really liked this film#gael garcía bernal#another end#piero messina#was it perfect? no#there isn't enough overall worldbuilding for it to work properly as sci-fi#and there are definitely some moments it fumbles#but as an emotional/character piece overall it works and boy does it have the cast to do that justice#also it looks beautiful#anyway as you see there were no other bodies of water available so they had to stick gael in a bathtub#gael garcia bernal#another end 2024#ggb filmography gifs#side note i have almost completely changed my giffing process and this is SO MUCH BETTER i want to redo all the old gifsets#(i won't though)#but i might gif this film some more while waiting for la maquina to drop next month#especially as i somehow managed not to capture bérénice bejo in any of these

Me normally: Let people love what they love
Me, after a Test Match Special commentator expresses their belief that the new All Creatures Great and Small is somehow "better" than the 1978 version: This is pure insanity and TMS can no longer be trusted on anything, how can they even be trusted to know about cricket, do they have no TASTE
#Look it's fine that this show exists and people will watch it and like it and that's ok maybe it's just not for me#But that was like a statement purely designed to piss me off#There were lots of issues with the 1978 adaptation! I still vastly preferred the books any day!#And I actually initially had high hopes for the new one because they at least cast a Scot (albeit a Highlander not a Clydesider) as James#And the actors at least looked a little bit younger than Christopher Timothy and Robert Hardy#And thank god Helen actually sounds like she's a farmer's daughter and doesn't speak RP!#But from the half hour I've seen of it I've had to write off this new adaptation#For two major reasons#First of all there's Siegfried#Siegfried is one of the key central aspects of the vibe of the books and therefore key to any adaptation#Robert Hardy was too short and too old for the part but he lived and breathed the character#The twinkle in the eye bouncing off the walls and in and out of rooms followed by half a dozen dogs utterly full of life even when angry#But this new Siegfried is just sort of... Eeyore-esque; he comes into a room and you can see the flowers droop and the set turn grey#Siegfried was angry Siegfried was happy and the historical character he was based on was no stranger to melancholy#Since Donald Sinclair did commit suicide or rather self-euthanasia after Alf Wight and his own wife Audrey died#But this slow grumbly figure in the new adaptation is not Siegfried Farnon- the book character didn't grumble more often he exploded#And why did the adaptation give him a dead wife that's so weird? What could that possibly add to the source material?#And this brings me onto my second problem which is to do with women and age#Firstly I have no idea why they aged down Mrs Hall or at least made her look younger than a woman her age would have back then#But what really drove me mad was when Heriot goes out to see some old woman hill farmer in the episode I saw#And this woman is far too clean and young-looking and you can see that she's wearing 'natural' look make-up#And a perfect set of clothes that looked like they were straight out of the House of Bruar autumn collection catalogue#Say what you like about the 1978 adaptation but old women looked like old women regardless of whether or not they wore make-up#It may be that the better quality of television screens means that the 'natural look' shows up on screen more clearly than it would have#But natural look make-up was not really a thing in the 1930s and for old women Yorkshire hill farmers I doubt they'd have much on at all#They just don't seem to be capable of allowing people to look old and wrinkled and real or have bad teeth or unattractive clothes#And everything is far too tidy- everybody looks far too perfectly country and quaint#Anyway the moral of this story is of course that I always recommend reading the books because they're much better#than any tv adaptation; but if forced to choose at least the 1970s one felt real and yet didn't have to be grim either#Ok that's my rant over please do feel free to enjoy the show I just got annoyed because the opinion was expressed on TMS

ok ok ok like i thought “the chosen” would suck cause “blah another series about the life and times of jesus” like we GET it it’s been around for CENTURIES you guys make the same damn movie all the time
but it’s actually legit really good? lots of pretty good representation! not everyone in the movie is white. actual portrayals of jewish culture instead of just ignoring that part. disabled people. matthew being autistic. characters that aren’t just two dimensional. the people in it feel like real people. there’s actual jokes, jesus cracks a few and they’re really funny?? so far nothing hateful, no gay or transgender bashing. it calls out the church for being judgemental and hateful in a way that’s very tasteful
it’s not perfect tho. jesus is…still white for some reason? despite mary not being white? and no one else around him being white? no gay people in it which is kind of a bad and a good thing…but it’s a portrayal of jesus and the people around him as human. as real life people who felt things and made jokes and rolled their eyes and stuff. also the guy they cast as jesus is pretty hot as are all the disciples. which isn’t the point or whatever but i can’t say i’m complaining. it’s free online and i think it’s worth a watch!
#it’s an adaptation of jesus that is more realistic#ofc he’s perfect and doesn’t sin but the point was that he was loving and kind and considerate and people all wanted to be around him#he doesn’t hesitate to walk straight into the dangerous or sketchy areas#he genuinely connects with and loves everyone he meets#they take liberties ofc but none of them are bad and add to the series as a whole#also as always i’m still gay and transgender as ever so no trad catholics or whatever touch this pls#but as a christian it makes my heart feel warm#it’s taken so so long to get an adaptation of any kind that depicts jesus as the kind of man who genuinely loves the people around him#not as some deity but as a human being loves other human beings#he is very human in this. it’s something christian’s don’t like to talk about#but if he went around talking like they do to other people#he wouldn’t have been able to last 10 seconds in the areas he was at#he wouldn’t have been welcomed there#it feels more faithful to the actual bible then they ever make him sound in any church service i’ve ever been in#the chosen#seriously check it out! it’s a genuinely good watch#especially if you have an interest in religion in general#i thought i’d hate it but i love it#pls know i’m being genuine abt this#and also the dudes they cast actually could pass as the age the actual apostles and actual jesus were#instead of being like 40-50 lmao#and them being hot is like just an added bonus sorry i have eyes

btw i very much enjoyed natla. i thought it was a solid adaptation, and it did a good job at capturing the essence of the original show even though it wasn’t a 1:1 remake. i had a few issues w some characterisation/writing choices and the overall timeline & plot feeling a little rushed (i.e. no downtime to explore the gaang’s personalities and friendships, everything felt very go-go-go and it took away from the impactfulness of some moments i felt) but overall i really enjoyed it. the cast was perfect, the vfx were incredible. it wasn’t flawless but it was a damn good adaptation.
#atla#netflix atla#atla live action#natla#look i have issues with it ok#i’ve got a list somewhere of the things i didn’t love#but the thing is is that if i had never seen the original atla before netflix’s ver would be a fantastic show#it’s only because we know how perfect the original was that we can critique what netflix changed and how they adapted it#hence the word ADAPTATION#not directly mirrored remake#anyway i thought it was good and i’m absolutely in love with the cast#obsessed with maria zhang and sebastian amoruso specifically#and gordon cormier and dallas liu#and everyone else#they were all phenomenal#admin

Brb, gonna go be feral about Natasha, Pierre, and The Great Comet of 1812
#oooooh my gosh#i saw a staged production of it on Saturday#and i cannot stop thinking about it#the cast were all insanely talented and all knew exactly what they were going for#i know it was pretty much perfect because I felt the movement from song to song way better than i have in the cast recording#it was funny and heartfelt and slightly melodramtic in all the right ways#i cried to be honest#but I cant stop thinking about how Natasha and Pierre held hands and watched the night sky together at the end of The Great Comet#just gonna go sob about that#this musical ran so hamilton could walk#i said it#natasha pierre and the great comet of 1812#musical theatre#musical theater
