Me watching any spy movie made after 2018: it's alright, but it's no Mission: Impossible - Fallout
#Operation fortune was Fine#like it was ok#But i dont get any chemistry from any of the main team#Except Maybe JJ and Orson they're kinda nice together#and also Nathan and Orson are very bantery i appreciate that#they underused JJ for sure#You know in Ghost Protocol we don't get the sense they're a real team yet until near the end#(which is intentional and part of the emotions of the narrative)#I never get the sense that these people have any feelings about working with each other#Like good or bad#it's all very dry and sarcastic and witty#which is Fine but i've seen Guy Ritchie's other work#I don't know it's just that there's no fulfilling emotional connectiveity here i have no context#the entire team is basically playing the same temperature so it's not very intersting to me#but it was fine

She’s Gonna Save Me
RCH 3K Celebration
Song Fic Inspired by “Jackie and Wilson” by Hozier
Pairing: Aaron Hotchner x BAUfem!Reader
Category: Fluff with a light smattering of angst
TW: mentions of typical CM violence, cursing, legal adults drinking alcohol
I was really nervous when I got this request because I fucking love this song and I was worried it would be too literal, but...it kinda worked perfectly? (Spoilers) So, this is kind of set in Season 11 and 12? I include Derek’s retirement, the stuff with SWAT from “The Storm”, and Hotch entering WITSEC with Jack in Season 12, and the end of that arc at the top of Season 13. This is exactly the ending I’d want for Agent Hotchner (also an implied (better; healthier) ending for Spencer). Thank you for the anon request and I hope you like it! xx
So tired trying to see from behind the red in my eyes No better version of me I could pretend to be tonight So deep in this swill with the most familiar of swine For reasons wretched and divine
When Mateo Cruz replaces Erin Strauss as the Section Chief over the BAU, Aaron Hotchner is shocked to find him almost entirely confident in the abilities of the team. It's rare - incredibly rare, actually - that Aaron attends briefings where ‘concerns’ about the team’s behavior in the field or even just questions regarding behavioral analysis don’t come up. However, that all seems to change with Mateo Cruz. Until he calls Aaron into his office.
“You wanted to see me, sir?” Aaron asks, cringing inwardly at how relieved he is that he and Cruz are almost the same age. He’s been feeling sensitive about his age lately, a side effect of breaking up with Beth, even if it had been a long time coming.
“Ah, yes, Agent,” Cruz motions to the chair across from his desk. “Please, sit.”
“Is something wrong?” Aaron asks cautiously as he sits in the chair.
“No, not at all,” Cruz assures him, “I actually have sort of a favor to ask.”
Aaron can feel his body tense, “Wh-what kind of favor?”
“It’s hardly a favor, actually,” Cruz corrects himself, “if my intuition is right.”
“What do you mean?”
Cruz fixes him with what even Aaron can admit is a convincing smile, “Her name is Agent Y/N Y/L/N. She’s desperately underused in counter-terrorism and her scores in the profiling classes are quite high-”
“She’s already in the profiling classes?” Aaron asks, suspicious of how long this little idea of Cruz’s has been brewing.
“Took them of her own accord,” Cruz says, still beaming. “Do you want to know why?”
“Um,” Aaron shifts in the uncomfortable chair, “sure.”
“She believed that behavioral analysis would help her understand the people she was chasing,” Cruz replies quietly with what he clearly believes to be a winning hand.
To be fair, it kind of is; an impulse like that? To study human behavior? To improve her own work ethic? Aaron doubts he’s able to cover how intrigued he really is.
“That is,” Aaron ruminates, choosing his words carefully, “promising. But-”
“Look,” Cruz leans forward, “it doesn’t have to be anything permanent. I know Callahan just left and Jareau’s out on maternity leave.”
“Well, yes, but I have interviews lined up-”
“Agent,” Cruz interrupts him, a little more imperious in tone, “just give her a shot.”
She blows outta nowhere, roman candle of the wild Laughing away through my feeble disguise No other version of me I would rather be tonight. And, Lord, she found me just in time
Aaron still hires Dr. Tara Lewis in case you don’t work out. Luckily for him, you’re both stellar additions to the team. Even when JJ returns, it’s nice to suddenly have lots of options and opinions on the team again.
It’s not something he’s particularly proud of, but if he’d seen you, Aaron would have brooked no arguments to you joining the team. Really, had he met you first he’d have absolutley no arguments either. You’re an insanely good profiler; in fact, he finds it rather stupid that you were placed in counter-terrorism ever. He knows that, logistically, his team can’t have all the good agents, but you’re just such a natural fit to the team that it seems silly you’ve only joined it now.
The team is celebrating a successful case on the jet home when Derek asks, “Now, Y/N, how come Little Miss Profiler Extraordinaire didn’t find her way to us until now?”
“Oooh,” you reply, “that’s very sweet of you. To be honest, I don’t know. I guess I’m not exactly the stereotypical image of an FBI agent.”
That’s kind of true, Aaron reasons to himself. You’re rather absurdly pretty, if anything, which he’s sure had some misogynistic repercussions of which you’d (hopefully) been unaware when you graduated from the academy. You wear your hair long, loose and natural unless it’s necessary to pull it up. You wear a large amethyst ring on your right hand and, while you still dress professionally, you’re the closest thing to a hippie Aaron can recall seeing in the bureau walls. Since the moment you met him, Aaron’s decided that, to him, you are the embodiment of whatever is meant by “the divine feminine”; a womanly, bohemian goddess. But he doesn’t allow himself to focus on that revelation all to often.
“If you think I’m a free spirit now, you should’ve seen me then,” you joke, sipping on your champagne. The team finishes up their celebratory champagne and, likely helped by the champagne, everyone is soon dozing off. You, however, are watching the clouds outside of the window, a wistful expression on your face. Ever so cautiously, Aaron takes the empty seat across from you, thankful for the semi-privacy of the sleeping team to talk to you.
“You know,” he almost whispers, “I think I would’ve hired you when you first got out of the academy.”
“You’re being kind,” you laugh softly. “But I was barely bureau material then-”
“Doesn’t change the fact that you’re a great profiler,” he shrugs. He meets your eyes only to see that you look slightly taken aback.
“Thank you, Agent,” you say softly, genuinely. “That means a lot coming from you.”
“You’re more than welcome,” he replies, almost shyly. “And you can call me Hotch.”
“Hotch,” you nod, smiling sweetly. And it sounds almost perfect...almost.
“O-or you,” Aaron begins, furious with himself for suddenly deciding to go tongue-tied, “you could call me Aaron.”
“Aaron?” you clarify quietly. “I really like your name, you know. It suits you.”
“Thank you,” he whispers, a blush growing it’s way from his neck to his cheeks.
“You’re more than welcome, Aaron,” you whisper, smiling. As you doze off, Aaron realizes that he’s well and truly fucked. Because nothing has ever sounded lovelier than his name on your tongue.
'Cause with my mid-youth crisis all said and done I need to be youthfully felt 'cause, God, I never felt young She's gonna save me, Call me "baby" Run her hands through my hair She'll know me crazy Soothe me daily Better yet she wouldn't care
When you answer your hotel door, it’s all Aaron can do to keep from falling to his knees and begging for your forgiveness. After his actions today, he likely should. But when he meets your eyes, it’s clear you’ve been crying and he can barely stand the fact that he knows he’s the one that caused it.
“Agent Hotchner,” you greet coldly, “to what do I owe the pleasure?”
“I’m an idiot,” he rasps, almost crying. “I never should have...I’m so sorry that I-”
“You know,” you interrupt, your voice still icy, “your inability to even admit the humiliation you put me through today is only making me realize how truly awful it was.”
“I never meant to-”
“To what?” you ask, staring at him just as fiercely as you had today. “To insinuate that I’m fucking one of your agents in front of the team? To bench me when I won’t tell you the truth even though it’s none of your business?”
“Yes,” Aaron swallows, “all of that. Y/N, I just-”
“Reid was craving,” you whisper darkly.
Aaron stops mid-sentence, eyes widening in confusion, “What?”
You take a deep breath before meeting his eyes, “I’m not in a relationship with Spencer, sexual or otherwise. I didn’t tell you because it wasn’t mine to reveal, but Spencer gave me permission to tell you after...after what happened today.”
Aaron continues to stare down at you, feeling tears gathering behind his eyes, “So...so last night when...”
“Last night,” you reply quietly, “I noticed that Reid didn’t seem okay. You sent us back here to rest and I just...had a feeling? I went to his room and the poor boy just...fell apart. The drug use in the case is reminding him of his-” you pause, taking a deep breath before continuing, “of his former addiction. He’s also going through a lot with his mom and it’s just...it’s too much. He just needed a friend.”
"I am so, so sorry,” he says quietly, feeling ashamed.
You stare at him, the ice in your eyes breaking as you take a deep sigh, “Aaron, why on earth would you...freak out on me like that? I thought we were better friends than that, let alone teammates.”
“I, um,” Aaron bites his lip. He knows exactly why, but he can’t possibly tell you; not now. Not after he made a damn fool of himself by benching you at the police precinct and then implying that his choice to bench you was due to, what he’d believed to be, your sexual relationship with Spencer. Ever since he’d seen you leave Spencer’s room this morning, he’d seen red, only now realizing just how stupid he’s been.
“Look, I get that a sexual relationship with Reid would be unprofessional,” you sigh, “but surely-”
“I was jealous,” Aaron admits. When you don’t say anything, he looks up and meets your wide eyes.
“Jealous?” You blink twice. Three times. “Why?”
“Because I’m...” Aaron takes a deep breath, “because I like you. I like you more than I should and I was upset that you...and Reid-”
“Oh my god,” you gasp.
“I’m sorry if-”
“Don’t apologize,” you say quickly. “Aaron, I’ve liked you for ages. I just thought you weren’t interested.”
Aaron can’t even process what you’ve said past the fact that you like him, too.
“You liked me?”
“Correction,” you reply, “I like you.”
“Wait...you...you still like me?” Aaron looks down at you dumbfounded.
“Well,” you smile, your tone almost teasing, “I’m not the biggest fan of what happened today, but...yes, I still like you.”
“I’m so incredibly sorry,” Aaron reitirates.
“I’m sure you’ll find some way to make it up to me,” you whisper, almost shyly.
“Could-could I maybe take you to dinner when we get home from the case?” Aaron asks, barely able to look at you.
Unexpectedly, you cup his cheek in your hand, staring into his eyes for a moment before replying, “That’s a good start.”
Lord, it'd be great to find a place we could escape sometime Me and my Isis growing black irises in the sunshine Every version of me dead and buried in the yard outside Sit back and watch the world go by. Happy to lie back watch it burn and rust We tried the world, good God, it wasn't for us.
Aaron is pretty sure Spencer has known the entire time, but has kept it to himself out of a sense of privacy the rest of the team seems to lack when it comes to discussing their bosses’ personal life. All that goes out the window when a SWAT team enters his home and places him under arrest in front of his son. At this point, his job rarely surprises him, but he can’t remember a time he’s been more infuriated with bureaucratic bullshit than now. The fact that the Department of Justice decided to listen to the claims of Peter Lewis - an incarcerated serial killer - over the sound quality of Aaron’s reputation is beyond him. It’s levels of stupidity that Aaron can’t even contemplate.
When it’s all said and done, he still feels like he’s on fire. He’s so angry and irritated that he feels like he could kill Peter Lewis with his bare hands and if not that then at least giving Timothy Ritchie, the ridiculous DOJ interrogater, a sound throttling and reporting him to any superior that would listen.
However, his anger is the last thing on his mind the moment he enters his office. Because there, curled up asleep on the sofa, are you and Jack. And suddenly nothing else matters because his entire world is in front of him and safe.
He sits next to Jack, caging him between the two of you. Your arm is wrapped around Jack’s shoulders, your head resting on top of his. Aaron’s mind has been made up for a while about you. From the moment you entered his orbit, really, but seeing you with Jack, even before you two were officially dating, just solidified it in his mind.
“Hey,” your whisper takes him out of his reverie.
“Hey,” he breathes. “How are you?”
“How am I?” you ask sarcastically. “What a question to ask after you were the one wrongfully arrested and interrogated all day. And, am I mistaken, or did you just take down a mass prison break?”
“Thirteen serial killers across the country got away, including Peter Lewis-”
“But you still stopped most of it,” you correct him. “Even after being interrogated for hours over something you didn’t do.”
You laugh at his awestruck expression, but Aaron can’t manage to laugh. All he can say is, “Marry me.”
You immediately stop laughing, eyes widening and eyebrows skyrocketing, “Aaron, w-what-”
“I know,” he continues, his free hand caressing your face, “that we’ve only been together for a year now, but Y/N, I’m deeply in love with you. I don’t tell you nearly enough. And after today, after this stupid, ridiculously upsetting day, all I want is you. Is this. Coming home to you treating my son like your own. Coming home to my family. Coming home to you.”
You smile at him, tears brimming in your eyes.
“Now, now,” Aaron whispers, a thumb brushing under your eyes to get rid of your tears, “none of that. I can’t have the love of my life crying.”
“The love of your life?” You whisper it so disbelievingly that Aaron almost grimaces.
“The love of my life,” he confirms. “And the fact that I haven’t made that clear is deeply upsetting to me.”
“Are you gonna marry dad?” asks a tiny, sleepy voice. You and Aaron look down in between your arms at the drowsy boy.
“Hey, Jackers,” Aaron whispers. “How are you, buddy?”
“I’m okay,” he replies, stifling a yawn. He looks up at Aaron timidly, “Are you...are you okay, dad?”
“Yes,” Aaron breathes, “and I’m sorry. I’m so sorry for what happened this morning. It was all a mistake, a huge mistake and-”
“Did you do something wrong?” Jack asks innocently.
“He really didn’t, sweetheart,” you reassure him. “It was all a huge misunderstanding.”
“I don’t want anyone to take you away,” Jack whispers, clearly trying not to cry, slowly encircling his arms around Aaron’s waist.
“No one,” Aaron whispers, adjusting so that he can wrap one arm around Jack and one arm around you, “and I mean, no one is ever going to take me away. You two are the most important people in my life and I will do everything in my power to make sure that we are all safe and happy and together for as long as I can.”
“Does that mean you’re going to marry Y/N?” Jack asks, slightly more excited and relieved sounding than before.
“If she’ll have me,” Aaron responds quietly, eyes meeting yours again.
“Oh, please say yes, Y/N,” Jack begs you, puppy dog eyes staring up at you.
“Yes,” says a teasing voice. The three of you jump, looking over at the doorway. The entire team, literally the entire team is there staring at you. Rossi is the one who spoke, his eyes positively gleaming, “Please say yes, Y/N.”
“If anything it’ll confirm what we’ve already suspected for months,” giggles JJ.
“Suspected?” exclaims an irate Spencer. “I knew. I told you all that they were just waiting to-”
“Just because you knew doesn’t mean you win the bet,” interrupts Penelope. “You wouldn’t let us tease them-”
“You all knew about us?” you ask incredulously.
“Of course,” Tara replies like it isn’t earth shattering news.
“You moved in together, what, a month ago?” JJ asks. At your nod, she continues, “Yeah we’ve known since about three months before that.”
“How did you know?” Aaron asks.
“That’s not important,” Rossi replies, “what’s important is whether or not you’re going to say yes.”
Aaron turns to you expectantly, “What do you say, angel?”
You look at him, eyes sparkling and a small smile working it’s way onto your lips, “Well, of course, my answer is yes.”
And as he leans over to kiss you over Jack’s cringing face, the team applauding and giggling behind you, he doubts he’s ever felt happier in his whole life.
Cut clean from the dream at night let my mind reset Looking up from a cigarette, and she's already left I start digging up the yard for what's left of me and our little vignette For whatever poor soul is coming next
The universe has a habit of punching him in the gut. And as understanding as you’d been, as much as you’d helped him and Jack as they’d gone into WITSEC, hiding out anonymously in a US suburb, it didn’t really make up for the fact that, almost the moment you’d agreed to be his forever, Peter Lewis had reappeared, becoming a far more significant threat than he’d ever been before - even showing up at Jack’s school. The two of you said goodbye with the understanding that the moment Peter Lewis was no longer a threat, you’d be together again.
And it wasn’t all bad. Homeschooling Jack and getting to be a full time dad for the first time made him realize how much he’d really missed out on. Spending time with his son all day every day was exactly the kind of life he wanted for himself.
It’s a random Thursday, or, at least, random by his estimation. He’s a bit annoyed, really, that the grocery delivery he’d scheduled for later comes early. He’s in the middle of helping Jack with some math homework when there’s a knock at the door.
“Just a minute,” he calls. The knock becomes more incessant. He grows suspicious, his hand finding it’s way to the glock he still keeps strapped to his hip every day.
However, when he opens the door and it’s you, he finds himself incapable of movement. He stares at you, barely resisting the urge to pinch himself, convinced it’s a dream.
“Hi,” you rasp, your face already covered in tears.
“Hi,” he manages to reply. “W-what are you-”
“Scratch is dead,” you whisper. “Scratch is dead and-and you’re safe now and-”
But Aaron cuts you off, pulling you to him and smashing his lips into yours. You smell the same, you’re just as beautiful as ever, but it’s as though he’s experiencing it all for the first time.
“Aaron,” you breathe when you eventually pull away. “I’ve missed you so much.”
“I’ve missed you more,” he insists.
You smile up at him, “I never want to be away from you again.”
“Same here,” he almost laughs. “You should come inside and see Jack, he-”
“Before we do anything else,” you say quietly, “I have to tell you...Aaron, these last few months have been so hard. There was so much and you weren’t there and I-”
“I’m so sorry, sweet girl,” he whispers, pulling you closer to him.
“It’s not that, Aaron,” you assure him. “You have nothing to be sorry for, but...I think it’s time for me to leave the BAU. And I know that you’ll probably want to get right back to it, but I just-”
Aaron cuts you off again, kissing you harder than before. You kiss him back, but look awestruck when he finally pulls away, pressing another kiss to your forehead.
“What on earth was that for?”
“Y/N,” he rasps, trying and failing to keep tears from falling out of his eyes. “My home is wherever you are. I want nothing more than to spend every single day of the rest of my life with you, no matter where we are or what jobs we have or-”
It’s your turn to cut him off with a kiss this time, a kiss Aaron happily smiles into as it deepens.
She's gonna save me, Call me "baby" Run her hands through my hair She'll know me crazy, Soothe me daily Better yet she wouldn't care We'll steal her Lexus, Be detectives, Ride 'round picking up clues We'll name our children Jackie and Wilson Raise 'em on rhythm and blues
It’s been nearly a year since Aaron left the BAU and it has been one of the most fulfulling of his entire life in terms of being a father, despite being stuck in WITSEC. However, when he learns about Spencer’s prison experience and the death of Agent Stephen Walker, he feels genuinely terrible, standing by your side at the funeral as you weep for your former co-worker. They’re all thrilled to see the both of you and Jack, especially since the three of you have moved so far away. It’s a sad day, though. It makes Rossi all the happier then to fuel up his private jet when Aaron invites the team to your wedding.
“Of all the places I thought you’d end up,” Spencer comments idly, “I don’t think I ever thought of Maine.”
Aaron sidles closer to the younger man, aged from the wild year he’s had, but still youthfully wistful. He follows Spencer’s gaze as the genius stares out over your backyard, the guests from the small wedding you’ve just had milling about, eating hor d’oeuvres and drinking champagne. Jack and Henry are running around having an absolute blast as Michael and Hank dance with their respective parents on the small dance floor. You flit around speaking to friends, family, and colleagues, beleaguered, Aaron’s sure, by comments about your new home. It is kind of impressive. The river rushing gently just a little ways away, Aaron’s small, but healthy vegetable patch, the beautiful white pine tree sitting in the middle of the picturesque scene. Yes, Maine has treated the Hotchners well.
“I told Y/N I wanted a place that felt fresh and new,” Aaron explains. “She wanted to move away from Virginia. We weren’t really looking at Maine specifically, but we wanted a bit of land and...we found this.”
“It’s a paradise,” Spencer whispers, so quietly Aaron’s not sure he’s meant to hear it.
“You know,” Aaron says, “we have a guest house.”
“What do you-”
“I know you can’t make any sort of permanent moves because of your mom,” Aaron assures him, “but please know that our door is always open.”
A pair of familiar and warm arms wrap around his middle and Aaron looks over his shoulder to smile down at you.
You beam up at him before turning to Spencer, “He truly means that, Spence.”
Spencer smiles at you both, pensively, before whispering “I have been thinking of...leaving the BAU.”
“There’s no shame in that,” you reassure your friend, unwrapping yourself from Aaron to grab Spencer’s hand. “After the year you’ve had.”
“Yeah,” Spencer scrunches his nose, eyes casting down to his shoes.
You press your lips together before looking back at Aaron and then smiling deeply, “Besides, we’re going to need all the help we can get.”
Spencer’s head pops back up to stare at you in confusion, “Why?”
“It may be paradise,” Aaron answers, wrapping his arms around you, “but with an eleven year old and a newborn...it could get kind of chaotic.”
Spencer’s eyes grow wide and a smile breaks across his face, “You’re...you’re going to have-”
“I’m pregnant,” you announce quietly. “And I know you’ve already got some amazing godchildren, but I’d really like our kid to have an Uncle Spence and-”
Spencer cuts you off, throwing his arms around the both of you, “Nothing would make me happier.” He kisses you on the cheek and smiles at Aaron, running off to call his mom and tell her, and maybe come up with a plan to stay in Maine for a while.
You smile up at Aaron and he can’t help but press a kiss to your nose. You giggle, “Did you ever think we’d get a happy ending like this one, Agent Hotchner?”
“Maybe not exactly like this one,” he wraps you in his arms, closer into his chest, “but I always knew you’d save my life.”

neglected, lost and overlooked DC characters I love.
Here’s a few (and I’m sure to forget some) DC characters, lost, overlooked or neglected I carry a torch for, some are well known some aren’t a lot are bat related, some I just like the look of okay?
Colin Wilkes
I know I know how on brand for me, but really, I miss this Ginger little dude. Damian’s first real frost a tough Gotham street kid with the power to turn into low rent Hulk. Damian needs more friends is all
Chris Kent
Come on! COME ON! we need someone in the Bat or Super family with brown hair! besides which it feels shitty for Damian to have a ton fo siblings and Jon to be an only child. plus the idea of a 11-13 year old Kryptonian Nightwing who hero-worships the shit out of Dick Grayson is great.
Helena Wayne
I’ve always been a sucker for her since Crisis, and the comic where she’s an exile form Earth 2 is pretty great. I just love the idea of her lost on Earth 1, being a bemused big sister to Damian the grump, teaming up with Dick and Bruce and the weirdness from that.
Sand
To be 100% real I miss all of the JSA gang (as this list will show) but really Sandy’s powers were particularly cool, being lost between being both a next gen hero and one of the old guard as a former side kick, feeling both like he messed up and that he was failed by his hero, all gold stuff.
Bombshell
honestly do I need to say more? I don’t know much about her but the look, the name, this iconic moment, nuclear powered and angry? sign me up I’m here for it
Bette Kane
Flamebird! oh my god! oh my god! WHY! is Bette not living with Kate, driving her crazy? come on, look at that costume! also she was great as a Titans supporting character I want her back! I want her in Batwoman!
Jakeem Thunder
honestly my favorite bad mouthed 13 year old super hero. All the JSA characters were so good, but JJ with his pain but hard outside, was gold. My main complaint is you never really got to see him with other kid heroes, (other than Stargirl) it would be nice to see him with Billy Batson, or the Young Justice crew, which I feel like Stargirl got to do a few times but he never did.
Talon
Again not a character I know a lot about, but I love the idea of a Talon coming over from Earth 3 and turning hero, I like that idea, so much so I even have an OC based on it (ask me about him some time)
Cullen Row
talk about a deeply underused character as far as I know Cullen is the only openly gay male character in the Bat extended family. I once had an idea of Kate being the center of like a different Batfamily of her own where Harper was one of her sidekicks and Cullen would be over Kate’s apartment all the time doing homework, maybe fixing gear having heart to heart talks about boys and stuff with lesbian aunt Kate.
Kid Devil
I like a sad sack hero truthfully Eddie was always such a mess in the Teen Titans comic and I like that, I also like a hero who looks scary but is like soft AF
Hourman
Have I mentioned I like the JSA? I like the JSA. I like Rick Tyler a lot, I loved the thing where his dad was in a time window, the father’s day issue of JSA remains one of my all time favorites I love that special connection he has with JJ.
Hippolyta
You might not remember it but there was a brief time when Hippolyta was Wonder Woman and it was explained that she’d been the WWII Wonder Woman, founder of the Justice Society etc. and her suited up as Wonder Woman, her showing up and palling around with the old JSA members, it was great it was legacy and depth.
Damage
the perfect cross between the Titans and the JSA, a young hero, a troubled past that was dealt with in an interesting way with Roy Harper, I like really like this dork who always did his best
okay so I have lots more but this is getting long, feel free to reblog with your favorite missing and overlooked minor heroes/characters.

My Outer Banks character opinions that no one asked for...
So I’m just doing major characters in this post and will do another post with minor characters... again no one asked for this😅 but just want to get my thoughts out and I enjoy reading other peoples thoughts so why not😊
John B- first of all let’s just get this out of the way... 10/10 would marry this floppy haired, half open buttoned up shirt, surfer boy of my dreams. ANYWAY. Now that that’s out of the way... sweet little John B. Obviously had some character flaws. He was impulsive and could be pretty careless and even a little selfish but he was a good guy who cared about his friends. He did take responsibility at the end when he apologized and told his friends he’s sorry he put them in danger by leading them down this whole treasure hunting rabbit hole so we know he cares, I just feel like he has tunnel vision sometimes, even if the tunnel is leading somewhere dangerous. I completely understand that he had a lot going on in his head but damn he needed to sit down sometimes. You’re 16 dude! And also his dad leaving him those clues so that John B could find the gold even tho this whole mission was incredibly dangerous, I truly don't know how I feel about that. I won't get too much into shipping because I'm planning on making another post for just that but I will say I did start to get super annoyed when it seemed like 70% of his brain suddenly got preoccupied with Sarah... but more on that later.
Kie- I will be super honest! At first I wasn't sure I was going to like Kie. I was afraid she was going to be on of those 16 year old self righteous characters whose every other word out of her mouth is ‘the patriarchy.’ But I love her. She’s my sweet angel who doesn't take any shit from anyone and just wants to surf with her boys, despite what her parents or anyone else says. She can have a bit of an attitude but so can I so no one is without faults. I do wish we got to learn a little more about her back story. We got to hear a little more like when she and Sarah were talking on the boat and when she was talking to her mom before Midsummers. But I want to know a little more of her family life, how she became friends with the boys since they grew up on the cut and she’s technically a kook. Hopefully in season 2!
JJ- I, like what seems like the rest of the fandom, have adopted JJ as my son. I love him and would gladly take a bullet for this sweet sweet boy who deserves nothing but good things and lots of hugs. In the very beginning, I was pretty convinced he was just going to be that dopey sidekick best friend. Then he got the gun and I was like ‘Jesus he’s going to be the reckless character that just gets them into more trouble by being stupid and bringing that gun everywhere.’ I never disliked him. I just had mixed feelings. But as the show went on, we grew to know JJ and better understand why he was the way that he was. Every scene between JJ and his dad was so horrible to watch. But that being said, huge shoutout to Rudy for his acting skills! The range on this boy is insane! He had some of the funniest lines of the whole season but was also the character that made me cry the most. Bravo my sweet boy. Characters that have this trash homelife where they are pretty much never shown love, but that have the biggest heart of their friend group are my absolute favorite and I always adopt them, so I'm not surprised...
Pope- Now... it’s not that I didn’t like Pope, I just feel like his character was both underrated and underused by the writers. I get the feeling they really just knew they needed that ‘voice of reason friend.’ That role was sometimes occupied by Kie, but even she sometimes was too down for an adventure to speak up when they were about to do something stupid. And maybe it’s just me but I feel like we didn’t really learn much about his character outside of just him being smart and having a scholarship. And I HATED when he ran out of his interview! Like I get it, he wanted to help his friends and maybe it’s the ‘mom-friend’ part of me but damn he could have waited another 15 minutes for his interview to be over! Then he went all wacko and started hitting his dad and screaming at Kie and acting like a JJ clone. It seemed a little sudden and get that his emotions were probably bubbling pretty close to the surface at this point, but that just seemed wild. But I am interested in learning more about him and his character in season 2 now that I'm pretty sure his scholarship is down the drain.
Sarah- Didn’t like her at first. I'll just say it. It almost seemed like they were setting her up to just be that annoying rich girl who’s bored with her own life so she inserts herself into the Pogue’s hunt. Plus she was with that asshole Topper in the beginning and it seemed like her and John B only ever communicated when he was around working for her dad. She definitely grew on me as the season went on. I really connected with her when she was telling John B that she pushes people away because she’s scared they won't like the real her. I reallyyyyyyyy felt that whole ‘leave before you get left’ vibe on a personal level. And another acting shoutout to Madelyn because you could genuinely feel the confusion and hurt that Sarah felt in the last couple episodes when finding out everything her dad did and who he really was and watching her own brother shoot and kill a cop without any remorse. I wish we could have seen her connect with the Core4 a little more though. We only ever really saw her with John B. She of course had some parts with Kie but I feel like they really are just tolerating each other at this point. And I don't think we ever saw her have a scene with JJ or Pope! I just wanted her inserted into the group a little more since it obviously seems like she is going to be taking a Kie approach to ditching the kooks and hanging out with the pogues more and she doesn't seem to be growing any connection with them at all. And that probably won't be fixed next season since it’s presumably just her and John B in the Bahamas.
Ok this is long. Props if you read this far tho! lol Do you guys agree or what are your thoughts!? I'm going to do another post with minor characters and another for ships (romantic and platonic)!

So...I just watched The Rise of Skywalker
And it was...a movie
Now, if you don’t want it spoiled, then don’t click keep reading, because I will immediately start after that.
Got it?
Good
Now that that’s out of the way
THERE IS A CANON LESBIAN COUPLE IN STAR WARS AND THEY SHARED A KISS, I AM DEAD
Sorry I just had to get that out of my system
I am not a movie critic, and for the most part I just enjoy a movie unless it bores me. But I have been saying that I will do this review, and I will, so I will just go over important part by important part.
Good?
Good.
The first scene
This is, hands down, my favorite scene in the movie. The way they introduced Palpatine and that we never really see his face in the scene is really menacing, but still oddly hilarious.
I mean, the man is hanging there quoting himself. He later literally said do it!! I’m surprised he didn’t start to tell the story of Darth plagueise the wise.
Plus, the fact that Kylo doesn’t want to join Palpatine and become his apprentice, but just kill him, is really cool to me. It shows a little different side of his character, that he wants to be his own and not just the next Vader.
Also, after Palpatine saying “I created Snoke”, there’s a blink and you’ll miss it moment of a deformed looking Snoke in a cubicle, so that’s that character's backstory. He was a failed clone all along!
Poe, Finn, Chewie & the Spy
The start of this scene is just pure fluff between our dear space husbands and their mom’s, husband's dog.
The revelation of the spy was cool, but I kinda immediately guessed that it would be either Hux or Phasma.
I really liked the chase scene, plus the banter between the characters. Character interaction is a thing I love in franchises, and this movie does a good job with it
Master Leia
I LIVE FOR LEIA TRAINING REY TO BE A JEDI
The Rey training scene though was...unnecessary, dunno why it was there.
Rey’s always been a kinda on-off character for me. I like her when she’s loose and chill instead of a “badass”. In this movie...I mean she has her moments, but for the most part I didn’t want her there
C-3PO, R2-D2 & BB-8
The fact that BB-9e wasn’t in this movie is a crime
I like Threepio, like most other fans, but he’s just like always been...there for me. In this movie though, holy shit did he shine!
To be quite honest, he was probably one of my favorite characters in it, just because he kept that lightheartedness in an otherwise angsty movie, with some occasional fluff.
What I really like about him is that they made this his movie! Artoo and BB-8 were barely in it, and when they were they didn’t do much, so Threepio could really shine! Literally, he’s made of gold. The latest eight movies he’s basically been bullied by every character on screen, no one really seems to like him (Poe did it in this movie, so it’s still a thing) but they gave him a lot of screentime and I like that!
I don’t like BB-8. He’s mostly there to sell toys, and I get that that’s what Star Wars is all about these days, but don’t make it obvious!! Cough, cough PORG!!!!
Artoo was underused as kriff in this movie. He did basically nothing, despite being one of the franchises most popular characters. My favorite moment in the movie however is when Wiped Threepio And Artoo reunite, and he actually sound HURT when Threepio doesn’t recognize him!! He calls him his best friend okay!?!?
Lando
!!!!
His introduction was so fricking cute! Chewie just went to hug him instantly, because that poor fluffy boy has lost enough!!
Threepio going to explain who he is, and Rey just going “We know who he is!” Is so heartwarming, like he’s a war hero! People idolize him that’s so cute!!!
Knights of Ren
Will get more into them in another section, but look really cool but really underused
Stormpilot, Jedipilot, Stormjedi & Stormjedipilot
Let’s get this over with
All three of the first ships are evident in this movie.
Rey and Poe arguing about BB-8 and The Falcon at the start of the movie...is basically all we get for Jedipilot but what’d you expect?
Poe making Finn general, their banter throughout the movie, the little very unnecessary fight they had, the reunion at the end of the movie-
THIS
Rey: So what were you going to tell me?
Finn: We’ll take it later
Poe: What, you mean when Poe’s not here?
YOU JEALOUS BRO???
Finn wanting to tell Rey something was most likely confessing some feeling for her, but then they survived and yeah, and it was fucking dropped?! Did JJ just forget about that???
Plus, I’ve never noticed this before, but Finn yells Rey’s name a lot.
The reunion hug between the three of them at the end of the movie is what kinda made me like Stormjedipilot. Poe and Rey holding their hands over Finn’s back while he buries his head into their shoulders, like yeah I like that.
Chewie’s “death”
I, to be honest, kinda wanted Chewbacca to die a little here. It would have made Kylo’s turn so much more compelling.
So it is my personal headcanon that Kylo did not know that Chewie wasn’t on that ship, and for a few minutes he actually thought that he, Uncle Chewie, had died. Because I couldn’t be the only one who saw a bit of pain on his face.
Kijimi
I first did not like Zorii, mostly because I thought she and Poe would have had a “relationship”.
Though, when Rey held a lightsaber against her throat, and she just impressively said “Not that it matters, but I like you.”
Gal, you GAAAAY
And also that twice, twice, Poe asks if they should kiss and she dismisses both tries, that I like. Good job movie, god job.
During the raid, you can hear female Stormtroopers, and I think that’s really cool. We’re in movie nine and first now does there exist female Stormtroopers that isn’t Phasma!!
Threepio’s wipe is sad and I liked it, but I feel that they made it a little too sad, considering it was afterwards mostly played as a joke and then they gave him his memories back
Hux the spy
Again, Chewie should have remained dead, but whatever.
I have no problem with Hux as the spy, I was just sitting in the theater mumbling ‘Fulcrum’ while my brother was looking at me weirdly, but what I don’t like is what they did with it.
For Hux just to be shot by some General we’ve never met before is just the equivalent of a letdown, especially since so many people like his characters. Including me, he’s one of the best parts of the Sequels!!
Rey Palpatine
Just so everyone knows, I saw this coming. I mean sure, I still liked the Qui’ra theory more, but when Palps started talking about how he knew who the girl was, then I was just like okay she’s a Palpatine.
What I don’t like is how they don’t talk at all of how this came to be. Like, I don’t even know which one of Rey’s parents who’s Palps child. Who the hell did he fuck?!?!
So yeah, whatever twist, bad execution.
Endor’s Stormtroopers
THIS SCENE IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF WHY I DON’T LIKE REY
They often do this in movies. Heroes have to do something, they can’t do anything at that moment so they have to wait, main Hero does it anyways.
IT’S ANNOYING AS HELL
Finn and the Ex Stormtrooper I can't remember the name of’s bonding moment was cute, but I just kept thinking to myself “Are they siblings? Because it wouldn’t be the first time this has happened,”
Finn getting mad at Poe is weird as shit and I don’t like it.
Dark Rey vs Rey
Huge letdown didn’t like it next
Rey vs Kylo, final battle
It was...fine, I guess. I like that Rey fucking stabbed him, that was cool.
Leia dying to redeem Kylo was dumb! I get that they needed to kill her off in a natural way and not just off-screen but come on!
Plus, if you would ask me, Kylo didn’t need a redemption arc. I think he should have died. As a bad guy.
Han Solo And Lightsaber Toss
Han Solo talking to Kylo was cool, though how does it work?? Was it a vision? Luke manipulations the force? Kylo only saw what he wanted to see?
That Kylo just tossed his lightsaber was symbolic and stuff, but a really stupid decision from his part. How are you gonna protect yourself now, huh? THE FORCE?!?!
Rey going into Exile
THIS SCENE WAS FUNNY AS SHIT!!
Just, Rey, thinking that every Jedi goes into exile, when they don’t feel like dealing with it anymore, and she’s fucking right!!! Yoda, Obi-Wan And Luke would be proud!!!!
Luke’s force ghost also has nearly identical hair to Anakin, which is adorable. Dunno how many that noticed that, since the people I’ve talked with about the movie didn’t, but that was literally all I could think about.
Knight Leia
When Rey picked up her lightsaber, my brother beside me was like “That’s Luke’s green one!” And I got mad because that’s not his lightsaber design at all. Know your facts bro!
That Leia was a Jedi is understandable, I mean was Luke not going to train her? But I’ve always seen her that she could use the force, but didn’t use a lightsaber because she’s badass.
I kinda also wanted her blade to be purple? I think it would have fit her much better, as she is probably the most balanced Jedi we’ve had for a while and she’s got a lot of anger that little Skywalker, but blue works fine I guess. Better than green.
Star Wars Endgame
I liked this scene, it was cool, Artoo got something to do, and Finn and Rose riding those horse thingies is an inside joke between those two at this point, convince me otherwise.
Lando And Chewie arriving though, and the First Order stating that they are “just people”, was really beautiful. Cool scene all and all.
Rey and Palpatine
Palps is still quoting himself! He fucking said “Do It” JJ knows what’s up!!
One thing that I’ve been trying to figure out since I saw the movie was what the hell was Palps’ goal? He said for Rey to strike him down (Said the same to Luke, is he suicidal??) and then he would become? Apart? Of her? What?
I’m sorry, but that doesn’t make any sense.
Kylo vs Knights of Ren
So these are Kylo’s guys, right? His inquisitors, per say.
Except these used to be Jedi, his clanmates, his friends.
So why the kriff did they all turn against him like that?? AND WHY DID HE JUST FIGHT THEM BLINDLY DUDE THESE WERE YOUR FRIENDS!!
If I could have changed anything in this movie that has nothing to do with ships, then it would be that at least ONE of the knights would have supported Kylo and not just blindly turned against him.
Though I must say, Rey giving Kylo Luke’s lightsaber through their bond, was pretty badass.
Palpatine steals Kylo and Rey’s bond
The. Fuck.
WHAT KIND OF FORCE POWER IS THAT?!?!
IF YOU CAN JUST STEAL A JEDI’S FORCE BOND, WHY DIDN’T YOU DO THAT WITH ANAKIN AND OBI-WAN PALPS?!?!? HUH?!?!?!
But for real, stupid decision, could have gone without it.
Jedi Rey vs Sith Palps
It was cool, a cool moment, I sat excitedly and whispered to my brother all the voices I recognized, I think Ahsoka could be heard??
...
I looked it up and yeah her voice is there, which means that she’s dead R.I.P Snips.
One of the better scenes of the movie, though I think it’s cheating because of nostalgia and love for these characters.
(I LOOKED UP WHICH THE VOICES WERE, AND WE’VE GOT FRICKING AAYLA SECURA, LUMINARA UNDULI, ADI GALLIA AND KANAN JARRUS!!!)
Reylo
*Sigh*
Ya know, I really hoped this wouldn’t happen. I almost wanted to skip this, and really make all the Reylo fans mad.
But I have to talk about this.
This kiss, should not have happened.
Now if you are a Reylo shipper, that’s good for you, I ship way stranger things than that, but to actually make it canon?!?!
Kylo having a crush or something for Rey? Sure, I can understand that’s he’s pretty much obsessed at this point. But for Rey, badass Rey who is pretty lesbian, to have feelings for Kylo? THIS IS NOT A HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP PEOPLE!!
And that they made a toxic relationship canon, but not a gay one, really says something about Star Wars doesn’t it.
Death of Kylo
I laughed out loud during this scene. Not joking, people around me were annoyed. And that his clothes didn’t disappear? Is Kylo a naked force ghost? Did he do that for Rey?
Wait
Don’t answer.
Happy Rebels
The Lesbian couple that kissed was obviously queerbaiting, and you should never praise that, but that is probably all we will get Gays, so let’s just take it and cry on the inside.
Is that Stormtrooper gal Lando’s daughter? Because my brother whispered that to me, and I got those vibes too. Or is she way older than what she looks like and we were supposed to see her as a love interest?
The hug was cute.
Rey Skywalker
I will never accept this as canon ever.
To see the moisture farm again was nice, I liked that.
And for Rey to finally have her own lightsaber, and a yellow one too (I read a fanfic where she had a yellow one, was that like pre-seen??).
But the Skywalker thing...eh.
I would have found it cute if she’d said Rey Palpatine, as if she’d embraced her origin and decided that the name Palpatine isn’t just to be afflicted with the emperor, but also with her, the last Jedi.
Also, did she go into exile? Because damn, those Jedi do that a lot!
All in all, I liked this movie! I wasn’t bored a single bit while watching it, as there was always something going on, and I like when that happens. I don’t think that had happened since Empire with a Star Wars movie.
It isn’t in my top three, but it’s up there, and better than The Last Jedi.
Though I must say, they did take some things from Return of the Jedi and put it in this movie, specifically the ending.
Though I must say, and don’t hate me for this, it was better than Return of the Jedi okay bye

just lots and lots of very long-winded, random thoughts about last night’s finale and the show itself...
so obvs no one has to agree with me on any of this, i just feel like there likely ARE ppl who feel like this and it’s easy to get shut down on tumblr for having different opinions, and i mostly just need to gather my feelings and thoughts in one place.
-ive seen a handful of ppl upset that the last ep centered around reid, but if you were to take 10 fans of this show, it’s a pretty good chance that 8 or 9 of them would say reid is their fave character. that isn’t me trying to insult any of the other characters, that’s just the way it is. whether it’s bc of his looks (and my lord was he gorgeous in this finale ep), or that he’s your typical cute white boi, or more organic reasons like he’s been there since day 1 and we were able to watch him change and grow, and he’s the opposite of the typical male characters we often see, especially on cop shows.. whatever the reason, he is a VERY popular tv character. and if it weren’t for that character, for better or worse, this show would have ended a long time ago.
-the ending itself.. i just feel like i don’t know what ppl were expecting?? this is not a show like supernatural or dexter or a show that has had a fluent overarching story to tell from start to finish. the story continues without us watching it. it’s another day at the office for them. was it a great ending? no, but it was fine. we see where all of them are headed. endings are so difficult, i’m just glad they didn’t kill anyone off or some garbage like that.
-so damn happy they hooked up luke and garcia. i have had such issues with garcia’s character since morgan left, i feel like she became a caricature, where she just overacts and i recently read an article with kirsten where she actually admitted that when shemar left she really didn’t know what to do with her character anymore. honestly? it showed. the obnoxiousness to luke was cute at first bc she obviously had a crush on him, but then it just became mean and out of character. this season i was happy to see her get a little bit more back to herself. all this being said, they were very clearly headed towards getting luke and garcia together this season with the overt flirting and one on one convo’s, i’m so glad they went through with it instead of leaving it open ended. and i will admit that of all the characters, i didn’t think garcia would be the one to leave, but it made sense. garcia is tough as hell, much tougher than she gives herself credit for, but like luke said, she can do this other job without the gore that she cringes over in literally every single episode of the show. also loved jj saying garcia was the glue of the team. so true, so well said. and side note, kirsten does a hell of a job writing these characters that she knows all too well, the other writers should’ve just let her take over in later seasons.
-prentiss... i love my emily so dang much, but man they give her the absolute worst dialogue. she gets stuck with all these long sentences that just.. they just don’t flow?? and it takes me out of the show so often. this has been since s12 when she became unit chief. there has been a handful of times since she became the boss that we have had flashes of old school smartass goth girl emily, and i cherished each moment, but it wasn’t enough. somewhere along the way they forgot how to write into the show that their characters had PERSONALITY. just as an example of the stupid dialogue she gets.. the end of the ep where it’s intended to look like rossi’s retirement party. then, idk who it was, emilys boyfriend maybe(?) says some dumb comment about oh gee i thought this was dave’s retirement! and then emily starts some awkwardly long line that could’ve been summed up in “dave decided not to retire afterall” and it was just soooo... weird?!!? if we are agreeing that A MONTH has gone by.. you are to tell me that it never once came up that dave said he was gonna retire and then changed his mind!??! that night, one month later, is the first that this discussion occurred!!?!?! and all of these dumb lines come out sounding so robotic, and i can’t blame paget, bc the lines are boring as hell. also unless i missed something i can’t rule emily out of being the next director, especially since their profile ended up being correct, lynch and the mom didn’t kill themselves, so i’m sure when that all came out, the next hurdle emily would have to clear is how they just blew up their very expensive jet right after having a budget meeting 2 episodes ago!!
- i’m gonna lump the newer characters together.. and just say that it was all too little, too late. they tried to give matt and luke more this season, and the ep’s centered on them were great, but it all felt forced to me. all this character development should’ve started as soon as they came onto the show. the relationships between the new and original characters also feels forced a lot of times, barring relationships like rossi and his boys, luke and garcia, tara and emily.. i mean that’s kind of all, right? we never saw much off-the-job, personal interactions between them and the rest of the characters, did we? and the way tara was treated on this show is inexcusable. aisha’s talents were so underused on this show it was criminal (pun intended). and actually, the above stuff i said about emily getting nonsense dialogue, you can throw matt in there too. his dialogue was friggin god awful at times on this show. in the words of early seasons reid, maybe try to be more conversational, writers!!
-man oh man was jj a badass and a half in this finale. tbh i always enjoyed liaison jj more than ssa jj, but when badass jj comes out i get all excited. i do feel like she would be the best fit to take over if emily left, she’d stepped into that role before and excelled. but she is another character that at times i think the writers just forgot how to write her personality somewhere along the way. i understand that the reality is that people change over time, but there were times that she was written like a typical high school mean girl, and that was just an insult to the character they created. the whole jeid thing was severely overblown and unnecessary. i don’t hate the idea of them being together, but why wait til s14-15 to deal with this? in the end i thought it was handled okay, i personally didn’t feel like it ruined their friendship or stayed awkward, which i appreciated, it was just a storyline that wasn’t needed and wasted time. also, ppl griping about “oh but she clearly loves will, if she loves spencer then she can’t love will!” i mean, actually, ppl are capable of loving more than one person at a time, hate to burst that bubble for ya.
-this seems like a good moment though to pause and just get this out about will lamon-fuckin-tagne jr... this guy is too good for jj lol, i am sorry but he is such a great guy. and can we review some things about will and his wife’s bestest friend, godfather to his children, spencer reid?? when will and spencer first met, it was during an unbelievably personal case to will, i mean his father died sending him a message about this case that the fbi was called in on. and his first intro with reid?? let’s see, reid spent that ep strung out on drugs, and full on abandoning the case to go hang out with his friend at a club/bar/lounge/whatever. ok, so that’s will’s first impression of jj’s bestie, and will STILL okay’d him being the godfather of his kids. not to mention, can you imagine your wife has been gone in the damn middle east for who even knows how long, then when she finally gets back and you think you’re gonna have her to yourself, but oh no, here comes jj’s friggin bestie again to come cry on the couch every night for several weeks!!!! and he gives zero indication of not liking spencer, in fact he seems rather fond of him. will is the most patient man ever, i swear.
-ok that was an unexpected side track. moving onto rossi. not sure why they were all like oh pfft this guy will never retire. the dude literally retired before the show started lol. if he retired once, when he was fairly young, why is the idea of it happening again so impossible? again, dumb dialogue. i loved the stuff with him and young gideon (i may be biased tho bc i’m just so damn proud of ben savage), i loved that rossi knew more about the jet than the others, however that was an inconsistency bc when rossi came back from retirement, he couldn’t believe the bau had its own jet. unless i just misunderstood what emily meant when she said it all started with rossi and gideon. i felt like lynch was a very underwhelming villain. super forgettable. there was no charisma like foyet or cat adams, there was no creep factor like mr scratch, there was no mystery like the replicator or the fisher king. his whole story just fell flat, and if there were anything interesting about him whatsoever, it’s bc of what rossi brought to the table, not the “chameleon”.
-my boy reid. he has several lifetimes of baggage to unpack, and i think of all the characters on this show, no one hates unpacking their trauma more than reid. i feel like it was so relatable that he could barely speak in this ep without sounding on the verge of tears, like every sentence was painful to even get out bc of how much hurt is stored up inside him. his trauma has defined him for years now, and if they had ended the show without addressing even some of it, the show would’ve been incomplete. i understand that actors schedules just don’t work out sometimes, but idk what the point was of having strauss and foyet be his devil and angel. and foyet’s long explanation of how bc he changed hotch, he changed the team was so convoluted that he may as well have just said “they couldn’t get james van der beek or the dude who played mr scratch, so im here instead”. i liked what they did with reid and maeve, and i actually don’t mind that there was no mention of max. they’re still very early in their relationship, and i feel like him coming out with some “wait i think i love max!” revelation would just be too fast and ooc. we already know that the relationship between them is growing, it doesn’t need to be said. and can i get an amen that maeve and reid didn’t kiss bc god that would’ve been weird as hell.
- i hate that we couldn’t have hotch or morgan or blake or elle or any of the main characters that helped make this show what it was, but i’m still grateful for the crumbs they gave us if the actors just couldn’t be booked for whatever reason. i’ve seen many shows at their end just try to pretend their previous characters never existed, so that we got some flashbacks with them was appreciated.
- RIP bau jet. i wiiiill reMEMber youuuuuuu.
-the song choice of david bowie’s Heroes was perfection. strangely, when i was driving home from work yesterday that song came on my playlist and i blasted it on repeat and performed a car concert for my fellow drivers on the road, and thought to myself that this song would be great for cm to end on. never thought they would actually do it since they had previously used the song in penelope’s ep. but what a great scene of all them dancing and singing and laughing like the bunch of nerdy idiots they are.
-i came late into the game with this show. ppl have been telling me for years to watch it and i only picked up watching in s13, after i read a spn/cm crossover fic and became super curious about who all these awesome characters were. with that said, i’m aware that since i haven’t invested years of my life in this show, that my feelings and thoughts about the ending will be different than those who have been hooked on this show for over a decade. i’m still just so thankful for the family portrayed by this show, and these characters i fell in love with, and episodes i’ll never forget.

okay, @mithrilwren, since you expressed interest, here it is! (no need to respond--it’s just late and days later, so I figured you’d like to know)
my reactions to ep9 below the cut. spoilers, obviously.
Full disclosure before i go on: I read a spoiler that led me to believe finn was going to die in this one, so basically everything we got was an improvement to what i was expecting going in. The only other thing i knew was that KMT was criminally underused, as well. Other than that, blank slate with incredibly low expectations
I loved the theme of not being alone. It was heavy handed, sure, but the fact that each of the core trio started the film believing they were alone in some way (rey’s “i can’t feel them”, isolating herself bc she believes no one understands; finn’s “I thought i was the only one”; poe saying that last time they asked for help, no one came), and then each of them finds out they’re NOT, UGH let me tell you I cried. Actually, i started crying when Jannah mentioned her stormtrooper call sign, and basically didn’t stop crying after that. I’m just a sucker for that trope, y’all.
on that note, though, finn’s ‘believing he was alone’, like many other things with finn, could have been better executed/more obvious before the actual conversation with jannah--even just a mention in a previous scene, like rey and poe had, would make the parallel stronger
also, finn saying “you don’t understand, not like leia and I do”--I’m simultaneously so happy that we HAVE FORCE SENSITIVE FINN and so frustrated that it...didn’t go anywhere? i’ve had a couple days to think about it, and it’s so exciting, so vindicating that finn is force-sensitive, but at the same time, he only used those powers to sense when rey was in danger, but never once got the chance to help her out in those instances--or help himself out! Could you imagine how cool like a “danger-sense” thing on the battlefield would be? A half-second shot that shows that his connection to the force is more than just ‘Rey fell down a well!’ I can’t help but wonder what would have happened if rian johnson hadn’t nerfed finn’s storyline in tlj--would we have gotten more development of force-sensitive finn if there was more time for that development?
I get the sense that this is an incredibly new realization to him in tros, even though we’ve been seeing the evidence since ep7. I just want a scene where he got to tell rey. or something even more explicit then “how do you know?” “a feeling.”
but also, can you hear han solo screaming “that’s not how the force works!” from the afterlife, even as finn proves that that is, in fact, how the force works?
But looping back around to ‘you don’t understand, not like leia and I do”--HOW does finn understand? What is he feeling from the force? what pulls him? what does he notice? He can clearly sense both rey and kylo (even if neither of them can sense him....), but what else? Did he and leia talk about it when rey refused to talk to him about it? did leia sense something in him, but wanted him to come to her? was he going to tell leia after he told rey, but then never got the chance? there is so much wasted potential here, guys, and i know they were trying to tell some story about palpatine and skywalker bloodlines righting the wrongs of their ancestors or whatnot but....why bring in force sensitive finn and not give him that connection? why not do something other than just go “he’s got it! the force! yup!” and leave it at that? it would have been so EASY to do more! ESPECIALLY if tlj hadn’t had some half-assed rehash of finn’s emotional journey from tfa instead of like, a logical continuation of his character.
(can you guess my favorite character, guys?)
BUT REALLY, others have talked about it more eloquently than me, but finn deserved a more central role, because he is the emotional core of the movie. and has the most compelling backstory and character trajectory (that is sadly ignored). and is clearly positioned as a foil to kylo ren, but then NEVER GETS TO BE THAT FOIL after that first fight in ep7.
but seriously did you see that hug at the end? with finn in the middle, on the verge of tears, holding onto the two people he’s been trying to keep safe for the whole film? I’m gonna cry again.
poe and rey sniping at each other was very ‘i’m closer to finn’ ‘no i’m closer’ ‘finn take my side’ like did you see how rey looked when finn agreed with poe in that first scene? they figured it out eventually, but it was....unexpectedly great to see the growing pains in that relationship.
More things, unrelated (or less related) to Finn:
KMT deserved better.
Carrie Fisher’s lines were really shoehorned in in some of those scenes. The “be optimistic” line? That was a REACH. I know they’re working with what they’ve got but sheesh.
I may be one of the few people that did not enjoy Adam Driver’s choice of loose, almost flippant body language once he Decided to be Good. The way he shrugs when he comes face to face with the Knights of Ren? It was annoying. I thought that, even though he was trying to change, he shouldn’t have dropped the intensity Kylo Ren has had up to this point. It just...rides the line of being a completely different character, and that’s not fair to the narrative. because ben solo is not a different character. ben solo is kylo ren, and he killed his dad and committed multiple genocides. you don’t just like...shrug and huff and smile in life or death combat because you decided to toss your emosaber into the ocean.
other than that, i didn’t think that kylo ren’s ending was bad. giving his life to atone for his original sin? Resurrecting the future of the jedi after massacring all hope of a future for the jedi so long ago? and then promptly dying and not kissing anyone? i thought it was poetic. and let me tell you i’ve never been a fan of kylo, and i don’t think he was redeemed in this act, or absolved of his crimes. and yes i’m staying out of the main tag and have no idea what others are saying, but i thought it was a fitting end.
also....say what you will about the force bond, but that moment with the lightsaber? was undeniably awesome.
(okay okay, i was talking to my husband later, and he was like “i didn't see the kiss as romantic. I saw it as a moment of ‘i finally see you’ before he died” which i’ll go with, honestly.)
but also....the force bond shut out finn from the force narrative of this last movie. and it didn’t need to. which is annoying.
i’m confused about poe’s backstory (and also it’s racist). weren’t his parents heroes of the resistance? didn’t he grow up with the resistance? wasn’t this previously established? jj what are you doing.
I loved jannah and the defected stormtroopers. the fact that the whole battalion laid down their weapons together...just another ‘we are stronger together’ moment that had me weeping.
but also....why is jannah the one getting the moment about finding her parents, and rey gets like, sooooo many backstory dumps about her parents and no one even mentions the fact that finn’s parents are out there somewhere too?
red racer chick’s line ‘they took all the children years ago’ was just....so quietly heartbreaking. can she talk to finn? or jannah? or one of the others? do the people of the galaxy know that the stormtroopers that attack them are kidnapped, brainwashed child soldiers? do they know? do weeping mothers pull on stormtroopers’ guns during raids, pleading with them to bring their baby back? do stormtroopers know that they were once taken from loving families? do they know intellectually and just not realize what that means until they are deployed (and by that point in most cases it is too late)? i need more on these stormtroopers.
there was probably more to mention, but i’ve forgotten it...so summary: i enjoyed some of the themes, and extremely low expectations did a lot for my enjoyment of the plot. there was a lot of info dumping and strange pacing that could at least partially, if not mostly, be blamed on inconsistent vision from abrams and johnson, but like...you’re adults working on an enormous movie trilogy. freakin’ sit down and communicate, and don’t just try to undo what the other has done in the previous film. so i mean...i had fun with my dad and husband on a long holiday weekend, but it’s not like, a work of art or anything. and i’m not saying it has to be, but at least there was some attempt in this movie to continue threads of character development. ....for some of the characters. so. inconsistent, with crumbs of The Good Stuff, but not enough to make it an actually good movie.
also KMT deserved better.

Star Wars, episode 9
In short: Without spoiling anything, remember how I was on about how Episode VIII was a good movie, a mediocre one, and a bad one fighting for space to each other’s detriment? And remember how this (I thought) left Episode IX with way more to bite off than it could chew?
Well, probably not, but it seems I had reason to worry. Episode IX is full of droids and spaceships and fights and explosions, but it also feels simultaneously empty and overstuffed. The plot isn’t stretched nearly as thin across so many parallel subplots as was the case with Episode VIII, but it’s still got two to three movies’ worth of story squeezed together into something resembling a supercut with just the essentials, and part of the problem seems to be it's more of a sequel to Episode VII than it is to Episode VIII.
So even though it competently hits familiar beats for fans of the original trilogy, and even though many people will like it well enough for that, it feels regressive and conservative and lazy. Good actors are wasted. Good characters are underused. Noise and nostalgia take precedence over sensible storytelling. It warrants more disappointment than anger, but maybe not a non-zero amount of anger, and it worries me about the future of Star Wars movies.
Spoiler-filled breakdown behind the Read More break.
In less short: OK, so let’s review where we were when Episode VIII ended:
Kylo Ren has killed Snoke and become Supreme Leader, with nobody to dictate his actions. Cool.
Rey’s parents are nobody and we shouldn’t be fussing about her heritage as if heroes always have chosen status or weird bloodlines. Cool.
The Resistance are basically now a ragtag crew that fits in a light freighter, with no allies to come to their rescue. ... This is a bit of a difficult spot to get out of.
Within the first 30 minutes of so, Episode IX sets it up so that:
Not only is Snoke not dead, but it turns out he was Sheev all along, and he’s still going to dictate Kylo Ren’s actions. Oh.
The Resistance is magically where it was at the end of Episode VII. Oh.
Then a bit further in—maybe an hour or so?—it turns out Rey has some kind of weird bloodline after all, namely Palpatine’s. Oh.
Palpatine being Snoke is annoying because Palpatine’s supposed to be dead and Snoke’s supposed to be dead, and when you have a long-dead Sith Lord that turns out to have been pretending to be a recently dead Supreme Leader, it seems reasonable enough to demand an explanation—none is given, of course.
The Resistance being magically reverted to its Episode VII state is understandable given the need to have Carrie Fisher in the movie through unused footage from that movie, but in view of all of the other retcons of Episode VIII, one can’t help but give this a bit of side-eye as well.
The retcon of Rey’s heritage is the real tell that
this is trying to be half of the trilogy all at once, which is a problem because it’s supposed to be the third act;
and in the process it’s also trying to erase a lot of the actual Episode VIII, which is a problem because it’s canon.
The thing is, much of what happens in the sequels could fit sensibly into three films with just a bit more work. Keep VII mostly as is; for VIII, trim the pointless safecracking subplot and the misguided mutiny subplot (and ideally replace them with a single subplot that keeps Poe and Finn in the same madness), and extend to include the reveal that Snoke was Palpatine and that Rey is his granddaughter; and then this leaves IX with enough breathing room to actually flesh out the implications of those reveals, the Force dyad, and so on, before moving on to the action of tracking down the Sith dagger and everything that ensues from there.
Of course, then it would follow exactly the beats of the original trilogy. Episode V ends with a big family reveal, and Episode VI then spends time dealing with the implications and reconciling the reveal with what was previously stated. But the sequels have been in such lockstep with the original trilogy that frankly I’m surprised that’s not what they went for to begin with.
Yet it makes sense when you take into account the completely on-the-fly plotting that the sequels have obviously been subjected to. VIII basically tore down some of the most delicious set pieces of VII—the mystery behind Rey’s identity, the presence of Snoke as Kylo Ren’s puppetmaster—and IX is basically tearing down that tearing-down. I know JJ Abrams wasn’t wholly responsible for the story of Episode IX, but it does feel quite a bit like he’s going ‘oh god no, that’s not what you were supposed to do with that from my movie! or that! or that! this is what you were supposed to do!’ and trying to build the house of cards back up. He’s not got enough time to do it right in two hours and a bit, and he knows it, but gosh darn it he’s still going to try. And maybe at some point he gets frustrated and yells ‘okay, Snoke was supposed to be a puppet of Palpatine, all right? just—just start the movie with that, it’ll be fine, because I don’t know how to even make that work with the carnage that Rian left behind’. So then facts are rapidly established and moved on from, because we’ve got a lot of ground to cover—mainly a lot of ground from VIII, to cover up.
It’s funny how the themes of these movies are supposed to be progressive—VIII was all about moving forward from failure and fear and despair, IX about recognising you are not alone and facing the problems of the world with that knowledge—and yet the plotting of these movies are continually regressive, retreating to ground already trodden to death by the original trilogy (both figuratively and, in the case of JJ’s films, literally—Death Star II, Endor, ...), and in many cases retreating within itself. A regressive strategy may work for prequels—after all things must gravitate towards the ground truth laid down by the originals—but it doesn’t work quite as well for sequels.
That’s really the key thing I wanted to say—IX feels insular, like it came from a parallel universe with a completely different JJ-led VIII and only realises it about ten minutes of the way in, and it feels a bit lazy falling back on clichés that VIII tried to explicitly preclude. But I do have some more specific thoughts on a few characters.
Rose: So, there was a lot of media buzz when VIII came out about Rose because ooh look she’s the first Asian woman to get any kind of significant screen time in a Star Wars movie isn’t that nice. And then there was a lot of racist and sexist abuse thrown at Kelly Marie Tran and that’s not very nice at all. And Rose’s character arc in VIII unfortunately overall turned out a bit lacklustre frankly so that’s just a bit mediocre. So clearly, given that Rose has been held up as this point of diversity in an otherwise not-terribly-intersectionality-friendly universe, we want to maybe shore this up a bit, right? Make sure that if Star Wars is going to have an Asian woman, that she’s going to be really prominent as things start going down in this last movie?
Erm, no. We’re just leaving her at the Resistance base to do tech things. Oh, we’ll bring her back out for the final battle, sure, and she’ll be part of the ground invasion, but for most of the movie you’ll barely realise that this was almost a major character in the last movie. The droids will have more agency and screen time than her.
Good choice, lads.
Hux and Pryde: VII wasted Max von Sydow, VII and VIII mostly wasted Gwendoline Christie, and now behold: the whole sequel trilogy wasted Domhnall Gleeson.
As demonstrated by performances in films like Brooklyn and Ex Machina, Domhnall Gleeson is actually an excellent actor, not merely competent. Yet in these movies, he doesn’t seem to have actually been given a role, only a caricature of one and a set of gags. First, he’s supposed to be a sort of perpetual rival to Kylo Ren—very mad, but very competent. Then, he’s basically openly laughed at by the Resistance and entirely subdominant to Kylo Ren. But finally in this movie, the writers remembered he’s supposed to be a peer, and makes him a mole out of spite against Kylo Ren, but basically absolutely nobody involved can take this seriously because of course it’s ridiculous.
To be honest, I don’t see how they could have ever made a rival to Kylo work. Here’s a more compelling idea. How about this: a former Imperial officer, high enough in rank to occasionally report directly to the Emperor himself, obviously loses all of his power and prestige with the end of the Empire. But then the First Order rises up, and he somehow gets to head the First Order’s military forces—but has to report to this upstart, this Kylo Ren. It disgusts him to have to report to this undignified hull-tearing snot nose, but he does it because he knows that behind the mask of Snoke is the Emperor, having cheated death, and through his devotion and the devotion of many others, the Emperor will rise again and—Kylo Ren or no Kylo Ren—reclaim what is rightfully his!
Oh right that’d basically have been General Pryde if they’d thought of him back when they were making Episode VII.
And of course, Richard E Grant—star of Withnail and I, of Can You Ever Forgive Me?, and of many fascinating Doctor Who stories of various canonicity—is in this role, and good god that’s even more of a tragic waste because of what General Pryde could have been if they’d actually plotted out a proper trilogy and realised that someone like Pryde would have worked a lot better than someone like Hux as right-hand man to the main villain.
Still nowhere near as wasted as Gwendoline Christie, mind.
Jannah: Yeah, Jannah and her company are all right. I just mention her because I am so glad that we didn’t get another Mickey Smith and Martha Jones situation where the black people just got coupled up at the last minute. Just thought I’d mention that.
Poe/Finn: Look, it’s like Kirk/Spock, okay? All the subtext is there, and it’s just a matter of you reading between the lines. How you read between the lines is entirely up to you—I argue there is a place for deep platonic relationships as much as romantic relationships, homo- or hetero-gender (although there may be a personal bias involved here).
But let me just say this: in the original trilogy, you had a young Jedi trainee and a pilot and his rescuee, with the latter two having this bickering old married couple dynamic. Those two are absolutely an item by the end of the trilogy, as in they have their big rotten kiss at the end of VI. (Possibly at other points too. I couldn’t possibly tell you.)
In this sequel trilogy, you have a young Jedi trainee and a pilot and his rescuee, with the latter two having this bickering old married couple dynamic. So where’s my Poe/Finn kiss at the end of IX?
As I say, though, it’s like Kirk/Spock, and like Kirk/Spock, it’s such brilliant chemistry that you can always rely on fan fiction to compensate for the cowardice of the canon writers. But it’d have been nice to have some level of canon validation.
Kylo and Rey: Yeah, speaking of big rotten kisses ... That is not the kiss I wanted at the end of IX. You didn’t have Luke kissing Anakin at the end of VI, did you?
That’s my main complaint, really, and otherwise I still think Adam from Girls (I’m sorry that’s just how I think of Adam Driver for some reason??? even though I’ve never even seen Girls???) looks a bit goofy at times. But Kylo and Rey’s arc felt like one where they were equals (possibly the bloodline reveal helps a bit there), they worked together well, it had a reasonable conclusion, etc. The Force bond thing is still creepy, and still a bit weird in how you can pass matter back and forth, but I suppose it was established in VIII, and I happen to think the way it was used in this movie on Exegol was actually pretty brilliant.
The droids: You thought I was going to talk about C-3PO, but it was he, D-O!
Sorry, couldn’t resist. Overall, I'm still not entirely cleared up on what happened with the droids, actually. It seemed like there was just this whole roundabout subplot around Threepio only to return everything to status quo, and maybe D-O had some information they could probably have used to begin with???
Other miscellaneous thoughts:
How much study in the Living Force does it take to do the becoming-one-with-the-Force thing, anyway? We see that Leia and Ben both vanish into nothing after death, and Leia definitely is a Force ghost confirmed at the end. But I thought season 6 of TCW made it pretty clear that this required a lot of training and study, which is why Qui-Gon was training Yoda so that he could then presumably train Obi-Wan (as the end of III suggests) in the art of immortality. To be fair Anakin never was trained in this, but given that he’s the Chosen One, I think he gets a bit of slack on what Force powers he can use. Luke and Leia were never trained on screen, of course, but Luke had years to read all the sacred Jedi texts, and he knows Force Telepresence (still can’t be bothered to find the actual name of that), so I figure he’s a very good autodidact, and likely trained Leia at some point as well as a Force ghost. So where does that leave Ben? I don’t know, maybe the Force ghosting thing is just a thing that runs in the Skywalker bloodline.
‘The dead speak!’ is the goofiest way to open a crawl since ‘War!’ from Episode III. Another reason the Palpatine reveal should have just been towards the end of Episode IX.
Trebuchet jetpack troopers? Really? Was that meant to be threatening, hilarious, or both? Because I only found it hilarious.
Also oh hi Wedge. Also oh hi Hayden Christensen’s voice. God I wish they’d had his actual visual Force ghost alongside Luke and Leia.
Did ... did Maz do anything other than basically be at the base and then give Chewie a medal because har har we love making references to the original movies? No? ... What a waste of Lupita Nyong’o, then.

I’ve been having a wild week and an especially wild day with so much stimulus that I’m knocked flat and I’ve had barely any time to properly process, but I CAN say that I’m absolutely delighted with the new trailer. My hopes for this movie are very high.
For those of you who don’t want spoilers, I’ll be putting my specific thoughts under the cut. The trailer is available to view here! Go have fun and come hit me up with your thoughts!
So, I don’t even know WHERE to start. I’m so emotional about the inclusion of Leia, and Luke’s voice telling us all that no one’s ever really gone. I’m... wow. Second, “Rise of Skywalker” is SUCH an interesting title.
While I’m hopeful that it means we’re gonna get Rey Skywalker confirmed, I wonder if it also means something about Kylo, since he is canonically of the Skywalker line. I also wonder if that means the Skywalker line is just, generally, going to be present, perhaps through Force ghosts? While I’m really okay with Rey Nobody theories, and I think it would be a great step outside the expectation that everyone who matters in Star Wars has to be related, I’m just...
I mostly need Rey Skywalker to be canon to prevent Rey/lo from being canonized. I really, genuinely find Rey/lo really gross, so if Rey gets confirmed to be a Skywalker, it’ll kinda have to force Rey/lo to die because I’m pretty sure Disney won’t allow an in/ces/tuous relationship to be canonized.
I didn’t like how Rian Johnson confirmed Rey Nobody in TLJ, because it was just so rude and awful. A very abusive scene between her and Kylo, in my opinion. While I’m not sure if it’ll get retconned, I am okay with her being a Nobody, so long as it also empowers her narrative.
Her being a Nobody should represent that a hero can come from anywhere-- a la Miles Morales’ “anyone can wear the mask” speech-- NOT that she is deemed unimportant in this very weirdly imperialistic narrative about certain families mattering more than others.
Anyway.
I’m DELIGHTED that we got to see Lando back in the Falcon (and smiling so widely and so happily!), and seeing him made me so overjoyed. Lando is a severely underused and underappreciated member of the Star Wars universe, and he deserves to pilot the Falcon again! She’s his girl!
Of COURSE, I have to talk about how gorgeous Poe looks and how happy I am to see him. I mean, he’s my BABY. I love him SO much, and seeing him again in a canonical context is !!!!! FANTASTIC!!!! Also, that outfit? Ooh, mercy me, I need to fan myself. Oh, lordy, what a man.
He and Finn are gonna have a lot more screen time together, apparently, which is fantastic! I’m so hopeful about seeing more of their wonderful friendship! And I want to see them interacting with Rey more, too! This trio deserves to be united, instead of on separate missions all the time!
I’m also interested in seeing if that faceoff between Rey and the ship in the desert is her versus Kylo. That looked like Kylo’s ship, but I don’t want to jump to conclusions. However, if she stabs Kylo... well, let’s just say I won’t be upset. Shithead has it coming.
Also, when I was watching that scene, I got a lot of Tatooine feelings. I’m not sure if they are back on Tatooine, but the ripping sound of a speeder on those wide open dunes? Sure took me back.
Anyway, JJ Abrams said FUCK Kylo Ren rights!
I do wonder if we’re gonna see a Kylo redemption arc, though. I’m sure they’ll try for it, but I’m not sure how far it’ll go. P.S. I hope Hux gets what’s coming to him, too. Nasty little man. Disgusting. Screw the First Order and all its little creeps.
Also, the EMPEROR?! IS B A C K?! WHAT
I’m just... so emotional. I don’t want it to be over, but I also want closure! I want to know what happens! I want to see my babies get their happy ending!
I just!!!!
BOY! I’M SCREAMIN’!
So anyway I’m gonna see that movie several times in theaters. I’m emotional now I gotta go cry
#sorry if this is disjointed i have a migraine#messages#star wars spoilers#possibly???#also i say some cusses in here and i'm very anti kylo and very anti first order and very anti hux#so if any of that bothers you just steer clear of this post i suppose ghdkhgdkgh#oh also anti r*ylo so ghkghkldhgkh#i have opinions okay!!!!#Anonymous

Star Trek: Discovery - will we meet more characters from The Cage?
'The Cage' was the first episode of STAR TREK. The pilot, that Gene Roddenberry made to sell the show. It starred Jeffrey Hunter as Captain Christopher Pike, with Majel Barrett (Gene's wife) as 'Number One', the pilot and first officer, and Leonard Nimoy as the Science Officer, Mr Spock.
The network liked it, but asked Gene to make a couple of changes. Get rid of the pointy-eared, satanic looking character, and the female in command (because it was unrealistic).
Instead, Gene changed everything... except for Spock, who he kept, but made him Half-Human. Majel Barrett was recast into the recurring character of Nurse Christine Chapel... and we were given a new commanding officer - James T Kirk, played by William Shatner, as well as the recognisable crew of Uhura, Scotty, McCoy and Sulu. Chekov wouldn't be added until the show's second season.
'The Cage' went unaired, although the footage was used to make up the two-part episode 'The Menagerie', which saw Sean Kenney recast as a now-crippled Pike.
Otherwise, the pilot was largely forgotten. When JJ Abrams made STAR TREK (the 2009 movie), an older Pike - played by Bruce Greenwood - was brought in as a mentor to wayward James Kirk. The character was then killed off in STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS. Those films are set in an alternative timeline though, Pike and co aren't referenced in the prime timeline... until STAR TREK: DISCOVERY came along.
Season two is warping towards us for a 2019 premier, and it's going to give 'The Cage' a whole new lease of life. Captain Pike is back, in the prime timeline, now played by Anson Mount (Marvel's INHUMANS), set to be a major player in the story, and main cast member, as he takes command of the USS Discovery. Mount, in turn, announced that we'd be meeting 'Number One' again, now played by X-MEN star Rebecca Romijn. The trailer that made it's debut an SDCC showed that some of the plot would definitely revolved around Mr Spock... and sure enough, this week found out Ethan Peck had been cast in the iconic role.
As stated, Mount will be a main player. Expect his name to on the credits (will he get the 'and' credit, Jason Isaacs received last season?). I should imagine Rebecca Romijn will bookend the storyline. As Pike takes command of the Discovery, 'Number One' will likely stay in command of The USS Enterprise, and I reckon will only be in two, maybe three episodes. As for Peck's Spock? That's hard to say. I doubt he'll be main cast, I'd be surprised if we find Peck's name on the titles, but I would say he'll get more action than Number One.
So, that's the big three for 'The Cage', but they weren't the only characters in that pilot. Will we get to see more characters brought to life? Who could we see?
JOSE TYLER
Lt. Jose Tyler was played by Peter Duryea. He was the ship's Navigation Officer, sitting towards the front of the bridge, next to the Helm Officer. We don't know yet if we'll get to see the bridge of the USS Enterprise, but if we do, it's certainly possible we might get a glimpse of Tyler. In fact, of the supporting cast, his position on the ship, I think Tyler's the most likely to be seen. He doesn't necessarily need to speak, so just someone that looks like him would be nice. (Although a speaking part would be nicer)
DR. PHIL BOYCE
As Spock is the focus of the storyline for season two, it's possible they might need to see his medical records... and they'll have to go through Boyce for that! John Hoyt played the chief medical officer and probably got more screen time that Spock in the pilot. It would certainly be a nice inclusion, but probably less likely that Tyler.
J M COLT
Played by Laurel Goodwin, Colt was Pike's Yeoman. He was often snapping at her, despite her just doing her job. She had a sizable role in 'The Cage' but is probably the least likely to appear in DISCOVERY, as the only series to include a Captain's Yeoman' was THE ORIGINAL SERIES. The character could always be retooled into another function though, possible the Communication's officer? Just a suggestion.
I would attempt to guess at potential casting for these roles, but I doubt I'd be anywhere close. Whilst I had cited Mount as a potential (and favourite) choice for Pike, I hadn't thought of Romijn for Number One, and I didn't even know Peck existed. Those a big important roles too, I wouldn't have a clue for the supporting roles.
I do hope these character's get a nod, but right now, I'm excited to see what STAR TREK: DISCOVERY has for Pike, Spock and the criminally underused Number One.

stormpilot speculation...?
okay. this is my first post on tumblr - i’ve been wanting to, but have resisted making one for a while now due to tlj spoilers. hOWEVER ,, i really wanted to get some thoughts i’ve been having for a while out about the last jedi, and specifically stormpilot. i know i’m not the only fan here who ships this pairing to death, and wants it to be canon, however like many others i’ve remained skeptical (if only for my own sanity). however there are a few things that seem //off// that i haven’t been able to shake recently, which imo, potentially point to stormpilot. so, without further ado…
the money issue
so, as most of us know, disney and lucasfilm are asking for an increased share of profits made from the last jedi. whilst this may just be disney being capitalist pigs - entirely possible of course - it seems a tad random and unprecedented. why now and for this movie? they’ve released tons of blockbusters over the years; it just seems strange to me. when the money deal was released, my thoughts first went to stormpilot. why could disney be fearing the income for this film in particular? is it because something controversial in it might mean that, once the message gets out, some countries may boycott/censor it, or even some of their western audiences may be turned off? it seems highly plausible to me that if they’re doing this for a reason, it’s because they fear the audience response to an lgbt couple made up of two main characters, and therefore they’re increasing the amount they take from cinemas in order to somewhat compensate for it. this could be entirely wrong obviously, and i don’t believe we’d get full on stormpilot in the film (a kiss at max, which they could easily censor out for chinese, russian etc audiences) but i do think it’s something worth thinking about.
the marketing
now i know some people will dispute this one bc finn and poe have been relatively underused in the marketing, however i do think that where they have been used, finn and poe have been paralleled heavily or put together. from the trio merchandise banner that was released earlier, to their positionings in the poster, to their shoot for vanity fair. i know there’s more i’m missing here, i’ve noticed it in the most random places, but these are the ones that come to mind. it seems like they’re making an effort for finn & poe to be seen as a duo of some sort - again, feel free to disagree w/ this, but i feel like it’s cropped up in multiple areas.
disney’s ‘baby steps’
earlier this year, disney’s live adaptation of beauty and the beast was brought to a lot of media and public attention when it was revealed that le fou would be gay. the moment turned out to be tiny, but the hype was there and many people were seriously offended by it and said they would boycott the movie. however, the film brought in over $1 billion at the box office, so the lgbt speculation clearly had no or little effect on ticket sales. furthermore, disney channel has recently announced there will be a storyline on andy mack showing a young lgbt teen coming to terms with their sexuality. obviously, both these instances are rather small - a small moment on a huge film, and a significant storyline on a show that’s small in comparison - but, to me, they point to something bigger. it seems to me that disney has been somewhat testing the waters for a more mainstream representation of lgbt+ characters/relationships - if not, what’s the point? finn and poe would be the perfect opportunity for this given the attention it was given after tfa, and how on board oscar and john are. you’re half way there already. again i’m not saying that it will be explicitly romantic in tlj, but i wouldn’t be surprised if it is set up for just that, considering lgbt rep so far has not harmed them.
the cast/crew
alongside john and oscar being on board, the rest of the cast have pointed to a 'unpredictable’ romance. rian tweeted that infamous fanart. pablo speculated about finn & poe’s love (perhaps jokingly, but maybe not as much as we may think?) jj talked about introducing lgbt characters. john’s stance on stormpilot changed from 'nah lol it’s all in oscar’s mind’ to 'you never know what they may pull’ around the time they started filming tlj. rey/finn has been dismissed by john and they’re spending the majority of the movie apart which wouldn’t allow an organic romance to blossom (speaking of, john described finn & poe’s relationship as 'blossoming’ in tlj - romantic language, much?) rey and poe have barely shared a scene and rose and finn is a sure possibility but why would they introduce a new love interest for finn when he already had two plausible ones with rey and poe? that doesn’t make sense to me, and seems like a slap in the face to fans, esp considering the apparent influence they have over the saga according to kathleen kennedy. historically, the romances of the trilogies have been set up in the first movie w/ both hanleia and padme/anakin, which should be the case imo to bring the movies full circle. that effectively rules out finnrey and finnrose if they follow that formula. finally, kathleen, rian and even john have queerbaited the fuck out of people if finnpoe doesn’t happen. kathleen’s “we’ve talked about it” especially comes to mind with this. and sure, it’s a real possibility, but i think they’d know it would hurt the fans, especially as they know that lgbt rep and rep in general is such a sensitive and important issue. if this turns out to be the case, i will be incredibly hurt and disappointed.
rewrites
let’s not forget this - tlj was rewritten after the fan reaction to tfa. this obviously meant giving poe a bigger role, but which pairing recieved the most buzz after tfa even over the likes of reylo??? stormpilot. i think that says a lot, and it’s very likely that they made some changes to their relationship and at least opened up the possibility of a romance.
-
i know there’s things i have forgotten here, but these are the major things that i can think of rn. feel free to add your thoughts because i’d LOVE to hear them. and if this post has been incoherent/messy, it’s bc i’ve had a lot to write in a short space of time. please, please share what you think and may the force be with you. 1 month till stormpilot rises, y'all. (i hope)

Star Wars: 10 Characters Underused Throughout The Whole Series
It seems somewhat insane that Star Wars was just once a standalone product, something George Lucas believed in but reckoned would work best as a solo movie rather than an entire trilogy. But, a whole 42 years on from the release of A New Hope, the universe around the franchise has grown. We’ve had two new trilogies (the second will be completed later this year) and two spin-off movies in the time since.
RELATED: Rise of Skywalker: 10 Theories About Rey's Parents
As a result, we’ve been introduced to many great characters. However, some have been at the forefront of things more than others. We now take a look at 10 people who, up to this point at least, can be considered underused.
10 Grand Moff Tarkin
It’s Darth Vader who steals the spotlight as the villain of A New Hope. Fans were left fascinated by his villainous character, who had a formidable air about him. However, Peter Kushing’s Grand Moff Tarkin was similarly memorable.
Tarkin conducted himself with such pompous and wickedness that he became a top villain from the very off. Unfortunately, however, he was killed off in the first Star Wars blockbuster, robbing him of screen time in both The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. CGI was used to bring him back in Rogue One but there’s still a sense the original trilogy could have been even greater with him involved in more than just the one chapter.
9 Bossk
Thanks to plenty of expanded Star Wars media, both in canon and in legends, Bossk has become a popular character. The lizard-looking Bounty Hunter only appeared in just the one movie - 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back - but the continuation of the universe around him means his stock has risen.
Bossk does barely anything in the one movie he features in. He’s spotted in the Bounty Hunter line-up when Darth Vader looks for somebody to bring in Luke Skywalker but ultimately fails in his task. It would have been great to see him in action despite his failure and we’re hoping that, with The Mandalorian and Kenobi coming to Disney+, we may get more of his character.
8 Boba Fett
Isn’t it strange how popular some characters can be despite the fact they do very little? Step forward, Boba Fett. With his Mandalorian armour and job as assassin, fans loved it when he made his first appearance in The Empire Strikes Back. He serves as an ally to both Darth Vader and the Empire, successfully delivering Han Solo to Jabba the Hutt in the process.
But in the following movie, entitled Return of the Jedi, he meets his end fairly early on. In dubious circumstances, too, falling into the Sarlac Pit on Tatooine after Lando Calrissian inadvertently damaged his jet packs. The new Disney canon has never confirmed whether he’s dead or alive but we still feel that, besides featuring more in the sixth Star Wars movie, he should also have popped up in the sequels.

7 Darth Maul
Moving onto the Star Wars prequels now, and everybody was shaking with excitement when The Phantom Menace released in 1999, 16 years after people thought they had said their goodbyes to the saga. The movie split opinion among release, however, with many aggrieved at the premature death of villain Darth Maul.
With his red, tattooed face, devil horns and double-bladed lightsaber, Maul looked every bit a top class villain. But George Lucas never intended for him to stick around and, as a result, robbed us of more. The character has since returned to the franchise, popping up in Solo: A Star Wars Story after it was established he’d survived Obi-Wan Kenobi slicing him in half after all. And we’re hoping he’ll continue to feature moving down the line.
6 General Grievous
Darth Maul isn’t the only villain of the Star Wars prequel trilogy who we wished we’d seen ore of. When the character of General Grievous was shown off for the first time, fans were sent into a frenzy. A Cyborg? Who kills Jedi? And can wield four lightsabers at the same time? The consensus was take our money now!
But Grievous makes his debut and dies within the same movie, Revenge of the Sith. Every scene with him was intriguing and the Magna Guards who served under him were similarly impressive. We just wish he’d featured more than Count Dooku who, while Christopher Lee was brilliant as, just didn’t have the same magical aura.
RELATED: Star Wars: Kylo Ren's 10 Best Moments (So Far)
5 Captain Phasma
Star Wars fans have history when it comes to becoming captivated by the appearance of a character, only for that same individual to then disappoint on the big screen. And many fans regard Captain Phasma as a waste, having previously been taken in by her chrome armour, red cape and distinctive blaster.
Phasma gets barely any screen time in The Force Awakens, despite being central to Disney’s marketing push. And it’s a similar story in The Last Jedi, when Finn finally puts the First Order lieutenant out of her misery. So poor was her involvement that many people have even dubbed her as a greater disappointment than Boba Fett. Which, quite frankly, is some achievement.
4 Supreme Leader Snoke
Just because Palpatine is returning for The Rise of Skywalker doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten about Supreme Leader Snoke who, so far, has been the source of much anger when it comes to the sequel trilogy. Disney wanted to keep everything under wraps regarding Andy Serkis’ character prior to The Force Awakens and, when he made his intriguing on-screen debut, hopes for The Last Jedi soared.
Snoke starts off the movie strongly, putting Kylo Ren in his place and continuing to draw comparisons with Palpatine himself. But then...he dies. Just as fans were really getting sucked in by the villain Kylo goes and slices him in half, with no explanation to Snoke’s backstory given either before or after. Sigh. Palpatine gets us hyped but we still want to know more about the man who replaced him as head of a evil organisation.
3 Finn
We were seriously stoked when we found out that John Boyega would be playing a stormtrooper named Finn, who would desert the First Order and join the Resistance during The Force Awakens. The character played a key role in that movie, helping the good guys blow up Starkiller Base - albeit nearly paying the ultimate price for choosing to engage Kylo Ren in lightsaber combat.
However, he sees his screen time cut drastically for The Last Jedi. Not only that, but the scenes he is in (the Canto Bight one specifically) are regarded as one of the most unpopular of the entire franchise. We’re hoping he’s redeemed in The Rise of Skywalker because Rian Johnson’s decisions regarding the characters were simply not good enough.
RELATED: Star Wars: Rey's 10 Best Moments (So Far)
2 Orson Krennic
Of all the Star Wars movies ever released, Rogue One is arguably the most-surprising. And we mean that in a good way with the blockbuster delivering a dramatic storyline, an array of new and interesting planets and characters who we wished had been involved the whole time. Orson Krennic is one of those.
Krennic, played by Ben Mendelson, is a slimy and oily individual - one you’d definitely expect to work for the Empire. His relationship with Grand Moff Tarkin makes for fascinating viewing and the way he defends the bad guys with such gusto, doing very bad things in the process, is exactly why we would welcome more of him further down the line. One film just wasn’t enough.
1 Darth Vader
Sure, we know Darth Vader gets plenty of screen time during both the original trilogy and during the prequels, when he was known as Anakin Skywalker. While his death in Return of the Jedi makes it understandable that he’s not alive in the sequel trilogy, there are still people who believe he’s been underused by both JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson to this point.
Abrams decided to have Kylo Ren speaking to his grandfather’s charred helmet during The Force Awakens but Vader was barely mentioned during The Last Jedi. Given he’s the most iconic character in Star Wars history, his presence and past should be referenced often in the sequel trilogy. That’s something, again, we hope The Rise of Skywalker fixes.

Reviews Of Stuff. Special Second Review: Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Tagline:The Force Is Calling To You.Just Let It In
Date Of Release: 18th December 2015 Directed by J.J. Abrams
Distributed by Walt Disney Pictures Based on Characters by George Lucas
Yes. Oh Yes. I am going to review 2015's highest-grossing film and your slightly early Christmas present from said year, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Back in 2012 when Disney announced that not only had they bought Lucasfilm from George Lucas but also that they were planning at least 3 new Star Wars films: Shit hit social media. As time went on it was announced that JJ Abrams would be the director of the first in what would be three new Star Wars movies and that Mark Hamill [Luke Skywalker] Harrison Ford [Han Solo] and Carrie Fisher [Leia Organa] had signed on to reprise their roles in the next film. As time went by with news of casting calls that i was not old enough to audition for at the time, JJ Abrams working with a machete very close to his neck and goosebumps from the very first teaser trailer, The film finally premiered on December 14th, 2015, before being released worldwide four days later. The film now currently rates a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is currently the third highest-grossing film of all time, The highest grossing film of 2015, The highest grossing film in the Star Wars Franchise, The highest-grossing film released by Walt Disney Studios, The highest-grossing film in North America, finally dethroning Avatar and the third highest-grossing film of all time with . The film was also nominated for 99 awards including 5 Academy awards and won 33 of said nominations.
I am a complete Star Wars geek and so i was really excited for this movie. I got tickets for a showing on the 19th, I headed to the cinema in Carlisle, I got a Star Wars popcorn bucket, [The only time to buy the overpriced cinema popcorn is when there are themed popcorn buckets] I had my usual toilet break before the trailers. I watched the movie. I...really enjoyed it. Really. Top 3 Star Wars movies easily. But a lot of angry Youtube commenters who can't spell correctly disagree with me so i decided i'd postpone my Harry Potter reviews and impulsively do a Star Wars review. Starting with The Force Awakens. Odd one to start with i know but i'm going to do all of them eventually. Including the next ones when they eventually come out.
Ok so the film opens with the iconic crawl every Star Wars film has [You hear that Rogue One? EVERY STAR WARS FILM HAS A CRAWL] and we learn immediately that Luke has vanished rather inconveniently as an Imperial Remnant named The First Order has risen from the Empire's ashes and seeks to destroy the New Republic formed after the Rebellion's victory. His twin sister Leia Organa now leads the Resistance against the First Order and has sent her best pilot Poe Dameron, played by Oscar Isaac to retrieve what appears to be a map leading to her missing brother. He retrieves the map to Luke from a retired adventurer by the name of Lor San Tekka, played by Max Von Sydow
but then The First Order arrives, Kills Tekka and a whole bunch of innocent settlers [Maybe Alderaan survivors?...] and captures Poe but not before he gives the map to BB-8 who then escapes and meets Rey, played by Daisy Ridley Finn played by John Boyega is a stormtrooper who finds that he doesn't want to kill innocents for the First Order and ultimately helps Poe Dameron escape but they crash on Jakku and Dameron is seemingly killed [OH NO! i-i really believe he's dead!] and Finn ends up bumping into Rey and BB-8 and they ultimately escape Jakku on the Milennium Falcon [Don't fucking call it garbage] and begin the journey to deliver the map to the Resistance, running into a certain scoundrel and his hairy companion along the way....
That's all i'm going to say on the plot even though most people probably already know it at this point, i'm not going to mention certain spoilers just in case there is anyone who doesn't. The plot of the story overall is decent though there is a couple of huge similarities to another Star Wars film but we'll get to that in a moment because other than that and a couple of plot-holes this story is good. It has likable leads, a good sense of humor, a genuine feel of mystery concerning the origins of a certain character and it does genuinely feel like a Star Wars film. It also has that awesome reason to re-watch movies....To catch all the small details in the background. Yeah it's a great reason to watch all the Star Wars movies and the Harry Potter movies actually. Things like a character's expression, a cameo in the background or a stormtrooper hitting his head on the doorway.
The characters are for the most part great and the ones that aren't are...mainly underused.
The Orig Trig Gang [Minus Lando] are back and it is great to see them again. Han Solo, Leia Organa, Chewbacca, C-3PO and R2-D2. Oh and Luke Skywalker! How could i forget Luke! The role he played! Such a useful character! And so cool! and that scene at the end was amazing! You know the one i mean! Luke was a badass in this film! His sister Leia played by the now late Carrie Fisher returns but not as a Princess but as a General. Well i guess there's not much point calling yourself Princess when there's nothing to be Princess of so this makes sense. Her character is a bit more broken in this, you get the feeling of someone who has seen and experienced far too much for one lifetime, Both this movie's later reveals and Star Wars Bloodline kind of explain why but, she also shows she's the same snarky old Leia we all know and love. Chewbacca, C-3PO and R2-D2 are still as lovely as ever and Han Solo.....Jesus it is good to have the old scoundrel back. He's old, grouchy and probably harboring back problems, but he's still got that crook side to him plus that line where he says The stories about the Force along with the Dark Side and the Jedi are all true? That shows how far he's come from believing it to be just be a 'hokey religion' I'm sure his character will be pivotal in the rest of this new trilogy....right?
Rey looks to be the big mystery of the series at least concerning parentage plot points. Theories on who her parents are will be the first things you see if you type her name in on the Internet, From theories she is the daughter of Luke, [Which would be too obvious in my opinion] the daughter of Obi-Wan [Which despite being really popular i personally disagree with] and the reincarnation of Anakin Skywalker. [Yes this is a theory...the things people think of nowadays] My personal theory is that maybe her parents were Dark-Side users or Jedi assisting Luke or maybe not actually important, one of those three. Her character is interesting as she initially comes across as the average 'tough girl who don't need no man' type but as the story progresses and establishes her as having no choice but to adopt this persona in order to be able to survive in the environment she resides in but we also see signs of vulnerability in her when we learn she's hanging on to hope of something that is most likely never going to happen not to mention her reaction to possibly being part of something much greater indicates she is not as strong as she might appear and there's a part towards the end that makes her appear a little Dark-Side-ish to me....Which would be an interesting twist actually.
Finn as we worked out from the trailers is a former stormtrooper who runs away from the First Order, only he doesn't want to stop running. He just wants to get as far away from this conflict as humanly possible only to find himself back in the conflict almost immediately afterwards. Granted it's his choice every time, Seriously, the guy escapes the First Order and says he just wants to run away but one of the first things he does is try to run to someone's aid when they are being attacked. Now, granted Rey was able to get out of the situation easily but it does show a lot about his character and he definitely comes across as someone who's desire to help ultimately outweighs his desire to run and be afraid of it all. Now his connection to the Stormtroopers is interesting as we've never had a main character that is a Stormtrooper before, This could lead to some interesting plot points in the next two films maybe he'll face off against Captain Phasma or an old stormtrooper comrade i don't know but it's going to be helluva lot of fun finding out.
The main villain, Kylo Ren is a Vader wannabe. I'm not just saying that because he's the replacement for Vader because the guy literally wants to be Vader the movie even says so! There's a reason in particular as to why he's so obsessed with Vader as well as a connection to the original heroes but for those who don't know it yet i won't give it away. I think he's being sort of set up to be a tragic villain, As you watch the film you get the feeling that he knows he's never going to be like Vader, He tried to look cool with his special lightsaber and his mask made to mimic Vader but it never really sinks in that way he just seems more angry and desperate than Vader and while i won't give anything away this longing ultimately drives him to do...something.
Poe Dameron....Am i allowed to marry a fictional character? This character has charm, humor, manners, dashing good looks, morality and he's the owner of BB-8! How much more attractive is this guy! And i love just how he and Finn have an instant connection, Just love how quickly they become friends. I just want more Poe in the next flick Rian Johnson! OK?! GIVE US MORE POE DAMERON !! Also i want my own BB-8. Now. I'm practically the only one who didn't get one for Christmas ....
Then there's the leader of the Stormtroopers, Captain Phasma played by Gwendoline Christie....Why was she even there? I mean her armor is cool and she and Finn could have interesting conflict but...why do we have to wait?
General Hux played by Domhall Gleeson [Cause he's in everything nowadays] does come across as the new trilogy's Tarkin but he's decent on his own, apparently he's the son of a General of the original Empire so actually grew up believing the Empire is the good side. And the rivalry between him and Kylo is kind of cute in the way you know it's pathetic.
Maz Kanata was an ok character despite that her role was basically exposition and it's nice to meet other friends of Han and Chewie [Or in Chewie's case maybe more :)] But why does she have to reveal important plot points if she's only in a small portion of the film.
Snoke i won't say much about except he appears to be the true villain of this new trilogy and is the master of Kylo Ren. Who he is?, Why is he doing this? and how did he convince Kylo to be his apprentice? We'll find out. In a year. Hopefully. [For the love of The Force don't make us wait until IX...]
Highlights of the film include the special effects which granted we knew would be fantastic,[Especially compared to certain OTHER films that came out that year-FANT4STIC!] but they really do work and make it feel new while still retaining the old feel of Star Wars. The score is lovely, composed by John Williams yet again but not as good as other Star Wars scores, but still really impressive though especially Rey's Theme. [Btw am i the only one who noticed that March Of The Resistance is basically just The Imperial March for the Resistance?] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65As1V0vQDM
As i’ve stated before the characters are great and there are some really great actors cast plus a couple of cool cameos too such as Daniel Craig and Ewan McGregor. [the latter is an uncredited voice cameo but he’s in there] The fight sequences are well-done and choreographed well, Not overdone like the prequels or under-done? like the originals, They don’t just tap their lightsabers at each other or pause during battle to twirl their lightsabers around for a moment. It’s raw, It’s fierce, It feels like the characters are actually in a fight for their life rather than a flashy duel that we know the ending to. There’s also a really great atmosphere to the movie, You get that feeling right from the teasers with that giant shot in the desert with the crashed Star Destroyer and that feeling holds within the movie, There’s a really great scene where we just get a good look at Rey’s life on Jakku, Just a day of her working and trading what she does for a small portion of food, There’s dialogue in the scene but Rey herself doesn’t say anything, she just quietly gets on with it but it sort of works in a way. And that flashback scene is mind-boggling, I won’t say what happens because that would be a spoiler but it just makes me want to shake Rey and the Knights of Ren and scream ‘WHAT ARE YOU????!!!!!.
The movie of course does have its flaws and those mainly concern the story. A lot of people say it is too derivative of A New Hope and i would be lying if i didn't say i couldn’t see that however, i feel there not as numerous as other people make it out to be. There are a few obvious ones such as the hero on a desert planet, the droid with a map, the cantina and most obviously Starkiler Base. [Nice nod to The Force Unleashed though] Personally while noticeable similarities, they are not really as consistent throughout the movie as some people say it is. Plus the hero from the desert planet storyline....it’s not just from A New Hope, I know people don’t like to remember The Phantom Menace but it still counts!. Also there’s a couple of plotholes in the movie that they really just kind of skim over when brought up [TELL US HOW YOU FOUND THE LIGHTSABER YOU-!] and there were characters that needed to be fleshed out more [cough PHASMA! cough] but other than that.i don’t think there are any other major problems...
So i really enjoy this film. In the Top 3 of the Star Wars films easily. It has Good Direction, Fantastic Visual Effects, Lovely Music, Great new characters, Good Humor, Well-written dialogue, [Take notes Lucas!] a Decent Story and a Wonderful atmosphere. And a new era in the Star Wars universe has just begun,
Final Verdict: 9 out of 10. Buy on Blu-Ray.
Critic’s Note: Should i do a spoiler review of The Force Awakens? Should i put the other Star Wars Films and Clone Wars episodes on my list? let me know.

[TASK 068: METIS]
Shout out to @olivaraofrph for helping compile this task in celebration of Native American Heritage Month! Metis are a distinct group of people separate from Native American or First Nations tribes, as their ancestors were early French and English colonizers who early on mixed with members of Native tribes, mostly Wabanaki, Mi'kmaq, Algonquin, Saulteaux, Cree, Ojibwe, Menominee, or Maliseet but others made their ways too. As Metis evolved, many continued to marry other mixed people, and sometimes other Europeans or Natives, to get to where it is today as a distinct native identity to be Metis. For the most part they reside in Canada, where they are recognized as one of the three groups of Aboriginal people, but to a lesser extent, they live in the US as well. There’s a masterlist below compiled of over 110+ Metis faceclaims categorised by gender with their occupation and ethnicity denoted if there was a reliable source. If you want an extra challenge use random.org to pick a random number! Of course everything listed below are just suggestions and you can pick whichever character or whichever project you desire.
Any questions can be sent here and all tutorials have been linked below the cut for ease of access! REMEMBER to tag your resources with #TASKSWEEKLY and we will reblog them onto the main! This task can be tagged with whatever you want but if you want us to see it please be sure that our tag is the first five tags, @ mention us or send us a messaging linking us to your post!
