My boss has been pushing back our 'weekly' check-in meeting for three weeks now, because everyone else's position has been in horrible flux (not mine, because I am not faculty, not staff, but a secret third thing: a millennial) and today we finally met (subject of meeting, according to schedule header: "i will be there this time") and we covered our normal small talk and updates (my siblings are healthy, her dog is not, I am doing wonderful/terrible things to our data systems, she is going to fight the finance team bareknuckled, the usual) and then she asked me if I had seen the email from that one guy retracting his plans to do what I've been referring to as the Massive Dick Move (do you know the little gremlin titter that plays in old cartoons when there's a moderately-malicious mischief taking place just off screen? hehehee that is me I am the gremlin today) and I said no! could she forward it! and she forwarded it to me (hehehee) and so we concluded our meeting with great relief and comradery (and also very quietly internally I was still going heheheee).

I maintain it is not blackmail to explain to a man exactly and in calamitous detail what will happen to the data and support to which he is entitled if he follows his stated course of action. I was simply apologizing aforehand. There would have been no helping him.

Leo is such a troublemaker, though. Or maybe not maker but definitely a magnet

I mean listen. They’re all good boys. If you look at their hearts and intentions they’re all so deeply fundamentally good and kind. Raph and Leo are also reasonably responsible (Donnie and Mikey take things apart and make go boom for funsies). However.

When he gets into situations Raph handles them pretty well. When he can’t handle them he takes them to someone else. When he met Tyler he brought him to the police. When he goes to the planet race, he keeps his cool anout being in this random time and place best out of all of them, and he sticks to his family’s honor code. He may tease Leo about it or whine sometimes, but the two of them are largely on the same page about doing what’s right no matter what.

Leo, though. Dear sweet precious Leo. He walks outside and makes enemies. And he usually thinks they’re friends until they make it obvious. It’s not his fault he’s such a magnet for chaos, but still you’d think after so many his trust bar would rise a little. He also likes to be involved in things; if there’s a mystery he wants to get to the bottom of it just for the sake of understanding. Donnie definitely does that, too—in fact if you split them up Raph with Mikey and Leo with Don, if they aren’t kept busy with some kind of high-stakes task, I think Leo and Don are the ones who would end up causing chaos. Or at least getting involved in whatever chaos they find and ultimately bringing it home. But we don’t see that because they’re rarely alone together unless they are in the middle of a mission.

And you know I didn’t think this until I typed it but. Maybe Raph and Mikey are preventing that situation on purpose—

Anyways as opposed to Raph, once Leo is in a situation, it will not occur to him to ask for help without either things getting extremely dire or someone prompting him (he would not have dropped Tyler off at the police station. Maybe he’d bring him to April or Splinter). His only thought is that he has to solve it, and if he’s not solving it, it must be because he needs to dig deeper. When they’re together he may be the one who keeps Raph focused on their goals and makes him think through consequences, but when they’re apart it becomes especially clear how very much Raph is Leo’s self-preservation and people smarts.

having anxiety dreams the night before i see extended family is like, fairly normal for me, but getting secret top surgery has unlocked a new genre of extended family anxiety dreams that i guess i will call Shirtless Emergency Dreams.

with navia is it recklessness or is it self-destruction ? i do think that by nature navia will just throw herself into any dangerous situation that presents itself, but this is also a girl who lost both of her parents and had to watch her father's reputation be wrongfully ruined, lost melus & silver and a bunch of other friends and found family in poisson to the primordial sea, then nearly lost her own life to the primordial sea and only managed to hang on long enough for neuvillette to save her because melus & silver helped her push back against the siren's call effect of the other oceanids. this made her the one who survived and, as it always the case with survivor's guilt, i think there will always be that voice in her head telling her that she didn't deserve to be the one who made it, that, despite how much brightness and warmth she tries to bring into the world, it doesn't change the doubts surrounding the fact people have died saving her life.

plus i also think that once you've stared death in the face as navia has done, a lot of the abject terror is taken out of the concept and it almost becomes something that you're drawn back to again and again as a result.

something went wrong w my 3ds and i was a little sad at first (exactly one month ago was the 10 year anniversary i got it!) but i have recovered and hopefully the device can too!!! 😭 i think the battery swelled up which caused the back plate to pop off? which caused the clock to reset to 1/1/2011 0:00 and for it to only operate when charging (tho from my brief research i shouldn’t be charging or using it in this state). kinda scary!! i hope it doesn’t blow up or something. but thankfully nintendo still sells the batteries and the replacement process seems simple enough! :3 i don’t have the required screwdriver atm but i plan to take it home and get it all sorted out when i return home for christmas
