i will never understand how people have the heart to hate Jason even after they found out that his Ambrosia tastes like fucking sawdust. Ambrosia being tasty is like one single happy thing a demigod can have despite their tragic lives, because it reminds them of the home they once had, but lost. And Jason doesn't even have that, he doesn't even have a home to lose in the first place.

yeah so this was insane
#i feel like too many people reduce this interaction to jason being like ‘lol same’#but idk :/#this chapter is from jason’s pov#and leading up to it he’s like ‘people keep walking on eggshells around me bc of the the michael varus stab wound’#and he hates it so when he goes on deck to help out with the storm#everyone’s like wtf except for percy#and jason states how much he appreciated percy not treating him like a sick kid#and i feel like it’s echoed in this sentiment where jason could say so many things like#‘you should never feel that way’ ‘im here if you need anything’#but he doesn’t make percy feel alone in his desire to just…. end it all#which ik for some people that doesn’t work but you’re not a character in hoo and percy is dealing with so much guilt#and he can’t tell annabeth bc she’s a main aspect of that guilt#and he doesn’t wanna guilt her more and he feels ashamed and when he describes this he feels weird for feeling it#so having jason this tough guy be like ‘yo i understand it bc i felt the same way#that’s gotta mean a lot to percy#also insane how jason who also struggles to display vulnerability#allows it in one of few times in this moment just so percy this guy he’s supposed to be jealous about#feels comforted and not alone in his guilt and shame#and also it’s just insane how jason’s wanting to kay em ess does not get talked about AT ALL#and just seeing his mom and the pressure of new rome getting to him#like this scene is insane and i’ll never shut up about it#also ignore me i’m just finishing my reread of hoo that took all summer#jason grace#percy jackson#pjo#ashla.txt

No one talks enough about the fact Jason was stabbed straight through the chest, like the sword went all the way through him and the wound started smoking, then it took multiple minutes I’m assuming to get him help and even then no one on that boat had any real medical experience, and then not even a few weeks later he dove into the ocean headfirst in the middle of a storm to help Percy with no real knowledge that he’d be able to 1. Breathe, and 2. Swim??? Like dude you are heavily injured, can not breathe under water, probably can’t move your arms without tugging at the HOLE ALL THE WAY THROUGH HIS CHEST CAVITY, and he STILL saved Percy’s life and had a heart to heart with him at the bottom of the ocean.
Get this guy a fucking award

I think people often hate Jason for reasons they should feel sorry for him
you hate because he's too perfect? he lives with pressure of everyone's expectations that he'll be perfect.
He has no personality? he was raised a child soldier, a tool for the gods and wasn't allowed to be his own person. despite that he did develop a personality and hera took it from him.
we don't know anything about him? he doesn't know anything about him.
He's not Percy Jackson? he's all too aware of that.

“I’m the son of Jupiter! I’m a child of Rome, consul to demigods, praetor of the First Legion. I slew the Trojan sea monster, I toppled the black throne of Kronos, and destroyed the Titan Krios with my own hands. And now I’m going to destroy you, Porphyrion, and feed you to your own wolves.”

i personally can’t even fathom annabeth hate. and let me preface by saying you can have any opinion you want on her, i just can’t begin to understand it.
she is not a character who ever is seen as a possibly hateable or “you either love or hate them” character (such as rachel elizabeth dare or jason grace etc etc) she is the commonly known, well-loved, one of main protagonists, love interest who is smart and strong but still has understandable flaws. so while every character has at least one hater in the world because everyone has their own opinions, i truly was surprised to learn there is more than the average numbers haters for her. her type of character just isn’t normally excessively hated, and she is an incredible likable character and good person in general.
the good thing is the annabeth fans are so passionate that it makes up for it.

thinking about valgrace
and how much better it would’ve been for the characters and plot than lightning mclean (still love that ship name though). maybe even aroace leo/jason could’ve been amazing
i mean, what’s more impactful? a child of hephaestus with severe abandonment issues feeling like a 7th wheel and the author resolving it by giving him a girlfriend, or a daughter of aphrodite, the goddess of love and romance, being single and happy about it for an entire book series, later to overcome comphet and fall in love with a girl. maybe even a child of rome—jupiter, no less—learning to accept himself for his orientation and accepting that he doesn’t have to be perfect, and it’s ok to be happy and different from expectations.
“to storm or fire the world will fall” would’ve hit ten times harder. one of them would have to go, and there was nothing they could do about it. the tragedy? the suspense?
leo overcoming his need for acceptance because he found everythinf he wanted in one person. jason was the first to tell leo he mattered, in a positive context. and he meant it. he showed leo a side of himself that leo didn’t even know existed.
platonic valgrace is still amazing. aroace leo is incredible. valgrace could’ve been endgame

“jason, piper, and leo are boring/bad characters!”
listen. i’m gonna hold your face gently as i say this. jason, piper, and leo are good characters that were written poorly.
jason died before his character arc started and he lost his memory (and never got it back)
piper was written stereotypically and written as a pick-me girl
leo was also written stereotypically and written to be a womanizer
they are all great characters. rick just never used their full potential.

@via-pantomime behold :D thought you'd appreciate a ping
The Burning Maze HURT so bad, but honestly the tragic irony of Jason's character, the way he was raised to sacrifice everything and everyone in the name of the mission, in the name of the honor of the legion, but he died protecting the people he loved. He chose to protect and chose to leave behind a legacy which was nothing like what he'd been born into. He died into a world numb from sacrifice and made it better, made Apollo PROMISE to change.
He's Jason Grace. He's awesome. And he deserves the world. <3

Jason Grace died because Rick was lazy and didn’t feel like dealing with the questions of how Jason was supposed to continue his life when everything about his old life was ripped from his hands and smashed to pieces
